So this is the fully new edited version. The oranges were bugging me but a very wise friend and photo mentor mentioned the smoke caused an unusaul orange hue that was brought out via editing. It was part of the moment and very unique so I stuck with it...even though not 100% what I envisioned in that moment. I treasure this image not only for the magnificence of it, but the fact of how rare it was for storms on the Canadian Prairies in 2021. Due to smoke and lack of moisture in 2021, myself and other Canadian storm chasers only saw a handful of storms this year. This was the least number of storms I have ever seen in all my years of chasing and with the Covid situation, I was unable to cross the border into the United States. The farmers, crops and towns suffered so much in 2021 due to lack of rain, fire and heat, was a sad year all around for the prairies and storm chasers. On July 22, 2021, I decided to make the 6 hour trek into Saskatchewan, in the hopes storms would form. It was another day where the atmosphere was battling the smoke in the area and a small group of us were almost giving up hope on storms firing, however, one little thunderstorm cell appeared on radar and we went charging towards it. Mother nature produced an incredible storm near sunset, with beautiful structure and lightning. This was this image, this moment, and in that moment in time, I felt so alive! This ended up being the only supercell storm I saw this summer, and drove over 12 hours to see it. was well worth the moment in time and image I got out of it!

This storm had some really intense low-level updraft structure to it but battled with dusty outflow from other areawide storms. I was just so sure mega lightning bolts were coming soon.

Lemme just say that the states these chasers drive through

Iowa.

Kansas.

Minnesota.

Nebraska.

North Dakota.

Oklahoma.

South Dakota.

Texas.

...are so beautiful. Especially country side. Don't care much about the towns and such but holy shit the open roads are amazing. I'm watching one from yesterday where he drives on a back road near Weatherford, Oklahoma if I heard correctly and someone in chat mentioned Bob's Road?

Really beautiful.

I dunno how y'all deal with tornadoes like that every year but you sure live in some beautiful places.
