People mistake wanting to fuck a character with them being a canonical bottom so anyways uhhh can i get stupid sexy terrorist catsuit blake getting railed into oblivion
When I originally read this, I was so excited to write a blurb for it. Unfortunately, every time I came back to it, my brain just went "Nah... I'm not feeling it." Well, I got the juices flowing now! I'll say Yang is wearing her volume 5 outfit.
*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*
On an SDC train approaching Vale.
Terrorist!Blake: (wearing skin tight, leather shorts with fishnets and thigh high, black leather boots, black leather corset with deep purple and red accents, black jacket with red stitching and a purple belladonna flower on the back, and a Grimm mask. An earpiece and microphone receiver are placed in her ear and around her neck in a collar)
Blake: (finishes planting the last charge on the dust storage door and presses a button on the receiver) Final charge has been placed.
Adam: Nice job, Darling. I knew you could handle it. Make your way to the last car so we can ditch the train and blow the whole train sky high.
Blake: Yeah, I don't need you calling me "Darling" anymore.
Adam: What was that?
Blake: (walks out to the car connection and flips a switch on a spare bomb) Consider this a breakup. Not that it was much of a relationship to begin with.
Detonator beeps and Blake steps back into the train car just in time for the bomb to explode, sending the rear car careening off the tracks and down the embankment.
Huntress!Yang: Well, I never would have figured you to be the type to abandon a partner.
Blake: (smirks) Ex- partner. (turns towards Yang and pops her hip) I'm not a fan of being in a relationship with a manipulative abuser.
Yang: (crosses her arms and leans against the doorframe leading into the train car) Yeah, I think you brought that up a few times in this little game of tag of ours.
Blake: (saunters up to Yang and drags the tip of her nail under Yang's jaw) I appreciate you not saying "game of cat and mouse".
Yang: (watches Blake's hand diligently but gives a warm smile) I figured that would be inappropriate, even if it is true.
Blake: I hope you don't think you're the "cat" in this situation~ (trails her nail across Yang's lower lip)
Yang: Maybe at the beginning of this. (gently grab's Blake's hand and gives a teasing nip to the tip of her finger)
Blake: (breath catches in her throat, but she manages to hide her reaction)
Yang: But I know better by now. (releases Blake's hand and rolls the tension out of her shoulders) So! How are we going to do it this time? We fight a little bit before you find a way to distract me just long enough to escape? We fight and I actually capture you this time to bring you to "justice" for your crimes?
Blake: Or you could just let me go. (drags her nails over Yang's breasts, down her stomach, and stops just above her crotch)
Yang: (grunts softly) Sorry, Blake. I can't exactly do that.
Blake: Awww. You remembered my name.
Yang: Of course I did. It's a pretty name. A pretty name (reaches up and pulls the Grimm mask away) for a beautiful woman.
Blake: (blushes slightly but keeps smirking) Well, how about we enjoy the little time we have left before the train pulls into Vale Station? Then we can make a decision.
Yang: (rolls eyes with a smile) I feel like that's a bad idea.
Blake: (continues to rub the front of Yang's pants until there's a prominent bulge) We've made plenty of those already, Yang. What's one more?

As I rewatch bits of the first three Volumes (due to reasons), the more I think about Blake, her motivations, etc, the less I understand why they thought it was a good idea to give her two functioning, alive, good-natured, influential/royalty parents.
Like, I REALLY doubt they had wanted Blake to be some rich faux-activist girl whose whole worldview gets disproven and whose most notable dialogue lines end up retroactively sounding outright nonsensical.
Like, what was the train of thought on flipping her entire character upside down like this beyond "Oh, all other RWBY members have messed up parent issues, so let's give her happy, healthy parents"? Was there even a train of thought?
Or did they just invent her parents on the spot because they had no idea where Blake would have gone after V3 ended and had to make up an entire unimportant-side-journey she could be stashed away in for a while (and also wanted to throw her into a subplot with Sun to counter-balance all the Yang stuff because the show was still hellbent on queerbaiting so they had to find a way to place Sun into a situation where he gets hurt for Blake so it's not just Yang as her motivation)?

thinking about how differently ruby's life could have been had she not gone to beacon two years early
she was a prodigy & moving two years ahead she was still mostly above average in fighting skill (i think), so back in signal she might get to pyrrha nikos levels of skill. and she'd still have all her mysterious signal friends, of which I'm guessing there are at least four (she'd been going there for a while, probably long enough to outweigh the awkwardness?) and signal doesn't assign teams so she might have a bunch of friends she could work not quite as well with but more people overall to keep in touch with after the fall of beacon. since signal is more of a high school than a university, there's probably more locals going there than out-of-country students, and i got the feeling patch was pretty close to it since both tai and qrow taught there, so after communication is down, ruby would still be able to meet with most of her friends.
i think if ruby didn't use her silver eyes, qrow wouldn't have broken the news about everything to her unless he really thought they were already halfway to the endgame. instead he'd focus on training both his nieces and prepare them for what's coming as best as he could.
I don't think yang would ride out looking for her mom if ruby is still there, due to the responsibility of looking after ruby and also a big part of why she found raven was just to get to ruby, so maybe instead they'd set out together with a route that stops through every town they have a friend in, and they check up on as many friends as possible and they distribute supplies and messages and accumulate team members that way, until they inevitably get sucked into the ozpin problems again.
or maybe they stay at the house, qrow running around picking up intel and arguing with raven while tai pushes up his sleeves and goes back to teaching. ruby goes to school. yang misses her friends. she might try teaching at signal, but her unresolved inner turmoil would make it not go well. no, they'd have to set out eventually.
maybe after a long trip of uncovering secrets and finding people, ruby and yang hug each other and then go their separate ways, yang getting her team(s) together (not forgetting JNPR) (hahah maybe weiss successfully got to pyrrha this time and it's team PWBY) (ozpin would not make pyrrha leader. or weiss. BWPY, pronounced blupee) and ruby working with her network of undergrad huntresses, both groups chasing down different ends of the Lore until they're united again, both groups stronger than before but also irreversibly changed. i feel like the beacon + white fang gang could handle the haven academy finale without ruby, and then ruby and co could take down the leviathan or something, and then both groups work together in atlas to evacuate everyone but people still fall and there's still volume 9.
would ruby still be under so much pressure if she hadn't gone to beacon? would the weight of leading all those students and having silver eyes still weigh as much if she'd had more time to be a kid? to make mistakes? she'd still have that following-in-her-mom's-footsteps-a-little-too-closely problem, which is a pretty big one. but with more time with normaller knees, with tai and qrow preparing her as best as they can...
she might still be doomed even then

Hop (sorry to make you suffer lol)
[Starting video…]
[Three years ago, Hammerlocke Hospital.
Hop is seen in a hospital bed, sound asleep. He looks about 16 here. Nothing but the beeping of machinery fills the room.
What sounds like muffled voices are heard outside the room, followed by the sound of a door clicking. Someone walks inside- a young teen, around Hop’s age likely.
It’s Blake- their hair is light brown in this memory and slightly longer, but it’s definitely them. They’re wearing a white hospital gown like Hop, there’s visible dark bags under their eyes, and there’s a few white bandages plastered across their face and wrapped around one of their forearms.
There’s a look of worry on their face as they slowly make their way over to Hop’s hospital bed. They pull up onto of the metal folding chairs to the side of the bed and sit down, looking over their friend’s unconscious form for a few seconds.
“Hop…?” They speak softly, reaching out to gently nudge him awake. The second their fingers lightly graze his shoulder, the boy jolts awake, eyes flying open.
He looks around, groaning and blinking a few times as his eyes adjust to the pale light emitting from the ceiling panels above him. Eventually, he turns his head, finally noticing Blake.
“…Blake?” he mumbles groggily, pushing himself up with his arms and sitting up.
“You feeling okay…?” They asked.
“I’m f-fine,” Hop placed a hand to his head when he felt the slight thrumming of a headache coming on, but it wasn’t bad enough to be too distracting. He looked around, trying to make sense of what was happening. “Wh-where are we?”
“The hospital…” Blake answered, their gaze falling to the floor.
The hospital…? Right. They fought Chairman Rose… and then Eternatus… and won. Blake caught it. They watched Zamazenta and Zacian leave. Then… Hop didn’t know why, but after the fight, he just… collapsed from exhaustion. He vaguely remembered the same happening to Blake, too. Looks like they woke up before him.
He sighed, his hand falling into his lap as he tried to collect his thoughts, turning to Blake again. “H-How long has it been since the fight?”
“A… couple hours?” Blake pulled out their Rotom-phone, taking a glance at the time. “It- it’s 2:34 AM right now. The Chairman was arrested, and I guess we were brought here…”
Hop’s eyes squeezed shut as the memory of everything that happened came rushing back to him, all at once. Rose interrupting Leon and Blake’s match, the chaos that unfolded afterwards, finding the sword and shield, confronting Rose, the battle- Leon getting hurt trying to protect them-
“Lee!” Hop suddenly gasped. “Where’s- where’s Lee?!”
“He’s fine,” Blake assured him, gently placing a hand on his shoulder. “The uh, the nurse said he’s recovering in a room a bit down the hall.”
Still, that didn’t seem to ease Hop’s panic. The image of his older brother and Charizard collapsed on the side of the tower, bruised and bloodied from Eternatus’ attack, flashed in his mind.
“I- I need to go see him-” Hop muttered frantically as he tried to slide out of bed, only to recoil back with a grunt as a sharp pain rung in his side.
“Easy!” Blake protested, grabbing Hop’s arm. “Y-you were hit by a piece of debris during the battle- The doctor said you need to rest!”
“I’m okay Blake, really,” he grumbled, shaking off Blake’s hand a bit more harshly than he intended, before clutching his side and ignoring the pain as he climbed off the bed.
Blake was frozen, stumbling over their words as they watched Hop make his way towards the door. Just as he reached towards the handle, they finally jumped up from their seat to grab his wrist and stop him. “B-but-”
“I said I’m okay!” Hop suddenly snapped, promptly yanking his wrist away. The raise of his tone made Blake flinch back, but to Hop’s surprise, his usually timid and reserved friend only moved to stand between him and the door.
“You’re hurt and tired,” they insisted. “We both are! Believe me, I’m worried about Lee too, but we just need to trust the doctors when they say they’re gonna help him!”
Hop was a bit taken aback at first at how stubbornly Blake held their ground. Considering he’d always known them as being shy and soft spoken, he definitely hadn’t been expecting their reaction. It was crazy how much they’d changed since they’d both left Postwick. He sighed when he realized they were right, though. His side did ache like hell, it probably wasn’t a good idea to go walking around like this just yet.
He slumped defeatedly as he sat back down on his bed. “You’re right. I… I’m sorry I yelled.”
Blake’s determined expression dissolved into one of sympathy. Taking a seat besides Hop, they placed a reassuring hand on his back. “Don’t be. You have every right to be worried, he’s your brother.”
“I just…” Their mouth fell into a frown as their gaze trailed towards the tiled floor. “I don’t… I don’t wanna see anyone else get hurt even more today…”
“Me neither…” Hop mumbled as he nodded along solemnly. A few beats of silence passed as the two sat together, listening to the quiet beeping of the machinery surrounding the bed. To Hop, though, it didn’t really feel like he was there- his mind kept going back to that fight up on the tower, facing down that monstrous dragon in a struggle that seemed hopeless. The desperate screams of him and Blake calling out attacks that only ended up being futile anyways, the roaring of the storm clouds raging above them, the ground shaking violently beneath them every time Eternatus launched an attack… it felt like he was still there, trapped in that moment, where he knew everything, everything he’d ever known and loved was on the line if they didn’t win.
“I…” His voice came out a bit choked as he tried to pull himself back to reality. “That… that really happened, huh…?”
“Yeah…”
“We won.” he breathed out, like he was still in disbelief. “We just… saved the entire region. Maybe even the world.”
Blake’s gaze fell to their hand. “Yeah…”
“We’re just a pair of kids, and we saved the world.”
“We could’ve died.”
Hop let out a chuckle of bewilderment, running a hand through his hair. “And yet by some Arc damn miracle, we didn’t.”
“Well…” Blake sighed. “Another page in our legend, I guess?”
“I guess so…” Hop huffed dejectedly. “We’re literal heroes now.”
There was a second of heavy silence. “I don’t feel like one,” Blake admitted. “I don’t know why.”
Hop bit his lip, nodding along sadly. “You think we’d be basking in the glory of our victory right about now, huh?”
“Yeah…” Blake paused, their hand squeezing into a tight fist as their voice began to waver. “It’s over. We lived. Why do I still feel so scared…?”
His gaze lingered on them for a moment, before Hop finally pulled his best friend into a one-armed side hug, letting them rest their head on his shoulder.
“The adrenaline’s wearing off?” He suggested with a shrug. “I dunno. I’m just glad we’re all alive- more or less.”
“Me too,” Blake mumbled, feeling the weariness starting to tug at their eyes. “Maybe it’s just the shock. Hopefully I’ll feel better in the morning…”
Hop was quiet as he stared off at nothing, his arm still wrapped around Blake’s shoulder. He felt a bit more grounded now, but everything still seemed so… surreal. How close they’d been the death just a few, mere hours ago. The scale of the calamity they’d just barely prevented. He wasn’t going to admit it, but he was scared, too. What was going to happen from here? Who was gonna run the league? Would Leon be okay? Was everyone else okay?
Trying not to let himself spiral in front of his best friend, he took a few deep breaths, subconsciously hugging them tighter. Blake noticed, though, and gently squeezed him back.
“Hey, it’s gonna be okay…” they told him, even though they weren’t sure they believed it themself.
“I-I know,” Hop muttered back, now actively fighting back tears at the thought of how he almost lost everything he loved. He inhaled shakily, rubbing the corners of his eyes with his hand. “I kn-know, but…”
“…We might be able to visit Lee’s room in the morning?” Blake suggested, hoping that at least might help get Hop’s spirits up.
“Yeah, that’d be nice…” he replied, stopping another stray tear from pricking through his eye. “I-I don’t know if I’ll be able to fall asleep again, though…”
“Me neither…” Blake seemed to think for a moment, before looking down at their Rotom-phone again. “We could just hang out in here, if that’s alright? I have a bunch of cartoon episodes saved on my phone we could watch.”
The offer brought the slightest of smiles to Hop’s face, the first one he’d had since waking up. “…Sure.” he sniffled. “That’d be nice…”]

Yang and Pyrrha paying for everyone hc my beloved
Pyrrha canonically has her picture on pumpkin petes cereal so I personally believe they sponsor her like an influencer and that’s how her team gets money and maybe jaune could get small job but I doubt Pyrrha would let him, mr broke into beacon needs to focus on his studies a LOT
Neither ren or Nora would be able to get through an interview and I truly believe that also I believe they’d just rather help Pyrrha get more sponsors influencer style
I think Weiss would get in a lot of trouble from her father if she got a job plus with her notoriety it might actually make it really hard to get a normal job
Blake “known terrorist” belladonna gotta keep her head down
Ruby’s got younger sibling privileges of expecting your older sibling to pay for everything
I love broke college student centric ideas for the beacon era teams

What Your Fave Redacted Character Says About You
Davey - You value a lot of things in a man: the most important being his ability to snap you in half.
Asher - You are the annoying younger sibling who is completely aware of exactly how much they can get away with via years of experience.
Milo - When people ask you what your hobbies are you say “reading” but the silent part of that answer is “fanfiction”
Vincent - I could go on for hours about all the parasocial relationships you’ve had in your life.
Sam - You’re rapidly running out of things other than yourself to blame for your problems, and honestly, it’s just a cry for help at this point.
Lasko - The people in your life have learned not to use the turn of phrase, “What’s the worst that could happen?” Because you will immediately launch into a 20 minute PowerPoint presentation with cited sources on exactly everything that could possibly go wrong.
Damien - Your parents were PTA terrorists. They were planning your bid for student council president while you were still in the womb.
Hux - For the people who think other people are always flirting with them or buttering them up, but they’re honestly just being nice and you never really learned how appropriately reciprocate that because life has taught you that everyone is always after something.
Gavin - God gave you depression and anxiety because if he didn’t, you’d be competing for his job
Avior - You’re either a burned out “gifted kid” or you only just got diagnosed with ADHD in your mid 20s. No in between.
Vega - Dear god do you love to be stepped on
Blake - You can not fix him. YOU CAN NOT FIX HIM.
Elliott - The ultimate fantasy of every demi-sexual out there.
Aaron - Depends: if you’re a straight woman, this is just everyone’s daddy fantasy. Otherwise, you’re a white gay guy. Only they would see a 1-to-1 recreation of their bully and go, “That is my husband.”
Ivan - I’m not saying you’re scary when you’re mad, I’m just saying the Venn diagram of people who have crossed you and the people you never hear from again is a circle
James - Admit it, you find degradation just a little bit hot. Just give in and go for it, it’ll be cathartic, trust me.
Anton - Literally that meme of “Thank you for changing my life.” “I’m literally a white man from Arizona mumbling and mouth-breathing into a mic.”
Geordi - “Patience of a saint” and “persistence of a rock” do not even begin to describe you. We have had nothing but radio silence from this man for 7 months.
Regulus - You just want someone to end your existence without actually killing you and honestly, valid take.
Guy - Your insecurities might scream at every person you meet, but not if you scream louder
Ollie - Your life moves from one disaster to the next and you are desperate for a shred of stability, which is probably why you’re listening to boyfriend role-play.
Morgan - There are two kinds of people in this fandom: Those who know what “19 months” means, and those who don’t.

Team Mom: Kali
It was another day at Beacon within the dorm room of team RWBY. Their first year of Beacon went off without a hitch, mostly. Fighting mechs, criminals and terrorists is not something that you can really just brush or mention casually. So what is a girl to do on a Friday afternoon. What possible exciting activity could these adventurous girls do?
“GUYS! Mom is coming!” Entering the scene is our resident cat, Blake Belladonna.
Sitting up from their respected beds, the rest of the girls quickly started firing off questions.
“When is she coming?”
“Are dad and Ghira coming too?”
“Snuggles?”
The last question had eyes drawn at Weiss.
“Hehe, just, you know, asking.” She replied sheepishly.
“Aside from Weiss touch starved condition (HEY!), she said that she be coming soon to visit us here at Beacon. Tai and my dad are staying in a hotel in Vale for the time being.”
“Cool, what time is she supposed to be coming then?”
“She said around 6.”
“It’s 6 already! Why didn’t you call us instead?”
“Forget about that, we need to hurry. QUCKLY! THROUGH THE WINDOW!”
“No Yang wait I c-“, before Ruby could say otherwise, Yang had leapt through the window of their dorms
“We can worry about her later when we’re outside. The bullhead could be arriving any minute now.”
Using her semblance, Ruby quickly took the girls to the bullhead landing pads, picking up, more accurately digging up, Yang from her earthly confinement. They eventually made it to landing pads 5 minutes late.
“Do you see her?”
“No I can’t, I’m too short.”
“Blake, what about you,?”
“No. Yang?”
“Negative captain.”
“Where could she b-“
“YOO HOO! Girls, I’m over here!”
With Weiss question answered by their target, the four girls quickly rushed to a woman with similar cat ears to their feline friend. The woman was quickly enveloped in a group hug from the girls.
“Oh oh my, eager aren’t we today?”
“Why wouldn’t we? It’s been a sooo long since we’ve last meet you in person.” Replied Yang.
During a break in they second year, the WBY of RWBY meet Kali and Ghira Belladonna, the mother and father of Blake. There, the three girls quickly took a liking to Kali, considering she was the first real motherly figure that they have had in a while. While the three may be her daughters by blood, she treats them as if they were her own.
“(giggles) That is true. And we have a whole week to spend together!”
“(gasping) A WHOLE WEEK!?” Exclaimed Ruby.
“A whole week? What’s the occasion?” Inquired Blake.
“Why the parent conference. They’re going to  discuss on how our little ones are doing and behaving.”
“Well, it is with great pleasure to say that we have all been model students.” Booster Weiss.
“We’ll see. Now, how about you girls give a quick tour of the area. I don’t want to be getting lost.”
“Alright Team RWBY, let’s lead the way!” Yelled Ruby as she jumped into Kali’s arms.
“Ruby” chasted Weiss, “get off her. You are not a child!”
“I don’t mind dear. I’m quite comfortable.” Said Kali she nuzzled Ruby who laughed.
“(Laughs) Hey, that tickles.”
“Are you sure? I can take Ruby.” Offered Yang.
“Yes, I’m quite sure. In fact, I quite like it when you girls jump into my arms. Reminds of when Blake was a little kitten.” Answered Kali.
“If it’s alright with you, then I guess she can stay.” Said Weiss.
“Good. Now let’s go and give mom the best tour of Beacon!” Exclaimed Ruby.
“I’m looking forward to this ‘awesome’ tour girls.”
(Like break.)
An hour into their tour, Ruby had fallen asleep in Kali arms so it was up to the rest of the girls to decide on where to take her next. Walking underneath an arc way of vines and growth, they enter the gardens.
“And here” Weiss gestured around, “is the Beacon Garden. Used by most to study but many can often be found eating and aswell as hanging out.”
“My, how gorgeous.” Awed Kali as tucked Ruby closer to her body.
“Gorgeous indeed. This garden is actually the newest addition to Beacon, having been made thirty-seven years ago. Furthermore, th- (BOOM)- What In Monty’s name was that?”
The answer to Weiss’s question came in the familiar form of Beacons resident dork Knight, one Jaune Arc, who was coursing throw the air, straight into a tree. After face-planting into said tree, his limp form sliding down onto a branch.
“Ow. Note to self, make sure that Nora does NOT help in the kitchen *ever* again. *EVER*.” muttered Jaune to himself.
“wa-wa-what’s going on?” Ask an awoken Ruby.
“Just Jaune flying into a tree. Nothing new.” Answered Yang.
“Jaune? Blake, isn’t he the boy you mentioned to me? The blonde?” Asked Kali to her daughter.
Smelling blood, Yang seized the opportunity to tease her partner.
“Oh, keeping secrets are we now? And here I thought we were family. I’m hurt.”
Blushing, Blake whined, “Mom. I thought I told you to keep it between us.”
“Oh my Gods so it IS true. You’ve Fall for that dolt.” Exclaimed Weiss
“Well I think it’s sweet.” Chimed Kali.
A second later, said boy fell off the branch.
“Oh, this is a perfect time to talk to him dear. HELLO dear.” Yelled Kali out to Jaune.
‘What? Who is that. I didn’t know Blake had a si-‘
Jaunes thought we’re immediately cut short when the branch he was on earlier fell on top of him.
“Oh no. That branch just killed Jaune!” Yelled Ruby.
“You bastard.” Followed by Yang.
“No you dolts. He’s just knocked out.” Explained Weiss.
“My oh my. What a shame. He needs to be tended to. And who better to wake up than you pretty face dear.” Said Kali.
“No mom, you don’t mean-“ Questioned Blake.
“Yup. Let’s take him to your room. He’s needs to be well rested on a nice comfy bed. Next to a beautiful lady.” Kali said as she picked up Jaune.
“Mom no.”
“Mom yes”
Blake was then handed an unconscious Jaune.
“Come along girls. The day just getting started.”
Three of the four girls ran to catch up with Kali as Blake just stood in place dumbfounded.
Looking down a Jaune, she blushes abit.
“Well, I guess it would hurt to give it a try.” And then placed a kiss on Jaunes forehead and quickly caught up the others
‘That’s my girl. Grand kittens here comes Grandma.’

So someone asked me to make a post about Blake’s development so far in order to discuss the question of where Blake’s character can progress at this point in RWBY given that her arc with Adam wrapped up in V6 and she didn’t really carry a plot line in V7-8. I do media and story things for a living, but I’m also an intimate partner abuse survivor - needless to say, Blake’s story is important to me. Hopefully my perspective helps answer concerns about Blake’s story being “over,” because I think it’s very much the opposite.
(Continued below the cut because this turned into an entire essay.)
I want to preface this by saying I understand why it might be difficult to picture what Blake’s story looks like going forward. I largely credit this to the relative dearth of compassionate, healing-oriented narratives about abuse survivors in media. A lot of what we see is either revenge fantasies or stories about facing the abuser and arriving at a point of ultimate catharsis. In some sense, this is a broader fault in the standards of western storytelling, which is oriented around that singular, climactic catharsis, but that’s another essay. In truth, a mostly linear progression towards a pivotal point of recovery isn’t how healing from abuse works. It’s a messy process, and life is rarely as linear as in fiction. I think RWBY incorporates that nonlinearity into Blake’s arc very well.
Speaking of Blake’s arc, let’s look at that.
When we first meet her in volume 1, she’s introduced as an aloof, independent loner who’s very resistant to getting closer to people. Most of her classmates perceive her as mysterious and alluring at best, callous and cold at worst. Once we start to understand more of her history, it’s easier to see her attitude as the defense mechanism it is. She wants to keep people at arm’s length because she doesn’t trust them not to hurt her – but she also believes that she will harm people she gets close to just because of who she is. That whole Beauty and the Beast dichotomy, you know? Adam told her that she ruins things. It doesn’t help that he groomed her into a terrorist organization and thus her surrounding community has also labeled her a threat. She’s got a few overlapping layers of distorted thinking to work through when it comes to her image of herself and others. The way she perceives people is, at first, overwhelmingly informed by her traumatic experiences with Adam and the White Fang.
It’s pretty strongly implied that Blake bent the rules in the forest and intentionally selected Yang as her partner. When we first see Blake dashing around in the shadows, Yang is taking down a Grimm while sassing it to death. Blake talks later about how Adam’s charisma drew her to him initially, so it’s no surprise that when she was choosing her next partner, she gravitated to the same superficial qualities. During the first White Fang arc, after her self-destructive spiral, Blake starts to genuinely trust her teammates for the first time. That trust is tested when Yang fights Mercury. In this moment, Blake is confronted with the possibility that a pattern might be repeating itself: what if she was drawn to Yang for reasons beyond the superficial? What if Yang doesn’t just share Adam’s positive qualities, but his negative ones, too? The impulsiveness, the violence, the abuse – but Blake stops herself. She chooses to trust that Yang isn’t Adam, and she says as much. She’s accepting that Adam is in her past and electing to move forward. How perfectly, neatly linear.
Then the end of volume 3 happens.
For an abuse survivor, the idea that an abuser you’ve gotten away from might come crashing back into your life is possibly the scariest thing in the entire world. This is exactly what happens when Adam shows up, and Blake’s worst fears come true. He makes a point of hurting someone she cares about simply because he can to prove that he still has power over her. Blake runs because she thinks the only way she can protect the people she cares about is to be away from them. That paradoxical duality of (1) fearing harm will be done to her by others and (2) doing harm to others herself rears its head.
One specific question I was asked is why Blake talks about Yang so little in volumes 4 and 5. If Blake isn’t talking about the people she left behind, is she even thinking about them? I say, well of course she is. It’s coloring her entire attitude.
When Blake returns to Menagerie, she’s back in the place where she met her abuser. She’s at her parents’ house, a place that has been a symbol of everything she left behind when she ran away the first time. Now she’s run from another home. Menagerie is riddled with traumatic memories for her, both interpersonally and on a structural, systemic level. Everywhere she goes could be a place where Adam said something awful to her, made her obey him in some way, asserted control. She also has to confront him in person again, too.
With Adam around, of course she’s not going to risk mentioning Yang. He got one inkling that Blake cared about someone else and cut their fucking arm off. The one time Blake mentions Yang by name, her voice cracks so obviously it’s like she’s forcing herself to get the word out. Through both of these volumes, Blake has other external goals, but she’s still trying to protect someone she cares about. At this point, she’s constantly struggling with two motivations: hope and fear. She wants to make the world a better place, but she’s terrified of what she’ll have to confront in order to do it because of what she’s already lost. Her choice to reunite with her team and fight shows that ultimately hope wins out.
In Volume 6, Blake and Yang facing Adam is essentially the B plot of the whole volume. He appears in flashes before the major confrontation at the end, but the damage he’s done to both of them is intrinsically tied into Blake and Yang’s relationship throughout.
The end of this volume offers the climactic moment of confronting and overcoming the abuser. Afterwards, Blake collapses and cries. Catharsis! Yay! We’re done now, right? This may be why, to some people, defeating Adam is the obvious “end” of Blake’s character arc. Again, I’d argue that this perception comes from how abuse is often depicted in media, but there’s also a very intense pressure in the real world for survivors not to speak out and share their stories. Even people who are abuse survivors might not publicly claim that label for a multitude of reasons. Namely, it fucking hurts to think about it, and also sometimes people are real weird about it. I don’t blame anyone who doesn’t want to carry that weight around all the time. We can see some inklings of Blake dealing with this challenge over the course of the show, though they’re subtle. Early on, she explicitly avoids talking about Adam until she absolutely has to, and even when she does start to unpack what he did, she often talks about it with visible shame (averting her eyes, etc). Unfortunately, shame is a very common sentiment for abuse survivors to carry, and addressing it is a major part of Blake’s journey as she starts to heal in volume 6.
Another point of interest posed was to look at Blake’s role in volumes 7 and 8. There’s an argument that she doesn’t really do anything or that her role is as a somewhat generic support figure within the group. I wholeheartedly disagree.
While Blake doesn’t carry a plotline herself during the Atlas arc, she and Yang embody polarized attitudes towards the global conflict the group is facing, and that contrast serves the larger narrative very well. Because she was raised by activists in a context where she was constantly thinking about civil rights, Blake wants to address the broader ideological conflict at play. Yang, whose childhood consisted of raising her younger sister, wants to help people in a practical, immediate way. Blake is an abstract, big-picture thinker, and Yang is more focused on what’s right in front of her. This isn’t a dig at either of them; it’s just a difference in prioritites. At first, Yang worries that these differing priorities will be a source of tension between them, but when she and Blake talk things through they’re able to understand each other without judgment. Blake is learning to reconnect with the idealist she used to be in her early youth, someone who fought for a cause purely because she wanted to make the world a better place. She’s able to embrace that side of herself around Yang even though they have different priorities, and they’re still able to support each other’s goals.
Furthermore, on a purely interpersonal level in V7-8, Blake has interactions with other characters that speak specifically to the healing journey she’s been on. Yes, these are significantly quieter moments than a fight to the death on a bridge over a waterfall, but that doesn’t mean they should be written off. Quiet and peace are part of healing, and that doesn’t have to undermine the story’s integrity. Dramatic tension is still possible amidst this, as we saw in Blake’s talks with Yang where they discuss their team’s split strategic approaches. When Blake talks to Nora about the importance of not losing yourself in someone else, that’s her speaking from experience. She’s lost herself in a relationship before, and she knows how hard it is to come back from that, but she survived. She healed. The asserted importance of self-compassion in relationships has a unique gravity coming from Blake. She has a strongly developed ability to balance interpersonal empathy with community- and global-level stakes, which we’re already seeing glimmers of at the beginning of V9 as she steps up to come up with a plan on the island.
In summary, Blake’s arc isn’t just about that final showdown with Adam. She faces her abuser, runs away, faces him again, and again, finally evicts him from her life for good - and after that, her story continues.
She goes on to find ways to heal from her past. That process involves renewing compassion for her loved ones, her community, and the world as a whole; learning how to love without fear; and reconnecting with who she was before she was forced to become aloof and detached to protect herself. Although the circumstances of abuse convinced her that she was a coward, she is, and has always been, an incredibly brave character. She’s finally recognizing that at the current point in the story. Ultimately, I think this is the thing connects her to Yang and the rest of team RWBY so strongly: they’re brave enough to love and have hope even when forces of adversity tell them they shouldn’t dare to. Blake is a courageous idealist with a heart full of compassion, and ultimately not even Adam could destroy that about her.
My serious answer to the question of where Blake’s character will go now is that I think she’ll be a sort of de facto leader on the island as Ruby spirals into existential depression. Hopefully that arc resolves in a way that’s consistent with the show’s overall message about hope winning out, and past this volume Blake will still carry that optimistic but grounded revolutionary spirit and continue to be a center of compassion and hope.
My catharsis-oriented answer is this: aside from being trapped on a magical fairy tale island, Blake is free for the first time in a very long time, and she can go wherever the fuck she wants.

The White Fang Headquarters, deep in the Menagerie jungles...
Adam: DAMMIT! HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?! We're using the same production methods she did!
Sienna: IT'S NO USE! All of our blind tastings prove hers are superior!
Adam: HOW ARE HERS BETTER?!
Banesaw: I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE! (Throws off mask) I'D RATHER DIE THAN DRINK SUBSTANDARD ALCOHOL!
Ilia: Should we apologize and beg the brew-master to come back?!
Adam: DON'T CALL THAT SICK PERVERT BY THAT TITLE! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Adam: Fine! I may have overreacted a bit by banishing her from the islands for life and nearly killing her, but I will not apologize! We of the White Fang NEVER apologize! EVER!
Ilia: ...So, where did she run off to?
Sienna: (Sighs) Last I heard, that weirdo bought some place on the mainland. She mumbled something about "the true balance of all blends" using "the purest of natures of whites and reds".

Once upon a time, there was a girl who lived bitterly in exile after being ostracized from my island home...
But now I see that my banishment was a blessing in disguise. Beyond my prison of jungle and sea and sand, I finally see the truth.
Good wine is grown under an open sky, but a perfect wine is made with fertile soil, open and free air, with much sunshine and much rain. It is nurtured, crafted, and brewed with dignity, respect, patience...
Yang: How's he harvest this year?
...and love.
Blake: The grapes are beautiful, just like you, my love.
Sun: Aw, they're so cute...
Jaune: Right? I wonder what kind of wine these ones will be.
New Isekai...
I Was Exiled From A Terrorist Organization For Loving A Human Woman, So I Recruited Her Mercenary Troupe of Blond Warriors And Built A Legendary Vineyard Harem, And Now My Wine Is So Good The High Leader Is Begging For Me To Come Back, But It's Too Late Because I'm Already Living My Best Life.
