Mxtx wwdits!au where hc, wwx and sqq are vampires and xl, lwj, and lbh are their familiars

They all live together in a big ass mansion that the familiars mostly take care of. Hc is the youngest of the vamps, around 800 years old, wwx is about 900 and sqq is a couple years away from 1000.

Hc was turned just when he entered adulthood, so he perpetually looks about 19. Wwx was turned when he was about 25, and sqq was turned when he was about 29. Lwj and lbh are 29 and 25 respectively, and xl is 31. Lbh has been a familiar the longest, followed by lwj and then xl

Sqq took orphan street kid lbh off the streets and invited him to live with him, and so lbh has been his familiar for 10 years now and is kinda anxious as to why sqq hasnt turned him yet. The reason is mostly bc sqq wants lbh to live his life free of the burden of vampirism and immortality, and assumes that lbh will eventually leave him if he just ignores the issue enough (even tho he desperately does not want him to leave. He’s quite fond of his white lotus).

Lwj actually comes from a very long line of vampire hunters, and was actually intending on killing wwx. However while he was stalking him he accidentally kinda fell for him a bit, so he decided to become wwx’s familiar instead (he tries to keep his past a secret, bc he doesnt wanna freak everyone out). Hes been a familiar for about six years now.

Xl has been a familiar for only about three years. He used to be a detective, and one night while investigating a series of strange murders he came across an incredibly handsome man who instantly bewitched him. Soon after their encounter xl was accused of corruption and was blamed for the murders, and was arrested. The mysterious man from that night swept in and wiped the minds of everyone involved, saving xl, so xl became hc’s familiar to pay him back (hc insists that he does not need to be paid back, but if it keeps gege by his side then that’s alright with him). Xl is actually the reincarnation of the crown prince of xianle, who saved hc’s life when he was still human. Later on the two became lovers, but xl was cruelly murdered by jun wu, a covetous vampire king who then turned hc. Hc has spent the past 800 years finding xl’s reincarnations only for them all to be murdered by jun wu. This is xl’s 10th reincarnation.

(Also xl definitely has attempted mass murder in this au, which he hides from the others. Bc of this, he is the only one who lwj confesses his true nature to)

Also lbh is definitely still half Demon in this au, which eventually comes to up later and causes all sorts of problems)

Is it weird for me to be worried about my latest hyperfixation/plot bunny?

Below the cut is an explaination.

Tl/dr: added a bunch of like pagan themes and my version of “western fantasy” and found family tropes and species bending to a Xianxia/Wuxia setting (MXTX triple fusion) and I’m worried people will find it problematic if I post it. All pagan stuff is also “weird” bc it’s my flavor of it and I add more bits when I write it for stories of any kind. Main guy mostly just acts as a dad and is always running around trying to avoid people who he doesn’t want to find him unless he needs to trade for certain things like fabric because everyone is suspicious of him and it gets worse when they learn he’s an “alternate type of cultivator” and actually foreign and stuff. Like, it’s HIM being assimilated and not the other way around even if he’s sharing like a couple crafts, what he grew up speaking and writing, some recipes and stuff you’d learn if you lived in the wilds and had an arborist-holistic doctor-type for a mom figure.

Edits: added more clarification, main concern is white savior and I’m doing as much as I can to avoid that bullshit but I’m still worried as fuck bc I don’t want to seem like an asshole or something.

Like, I tend to have phases for fandoms, sure, but I also have them for tropes/concepts I like to write.

So I’m in a MXTX/Danmei phase fandom wise, and I’m in a general “fix it before the shit can go south” phase, and now I’m layering on my paganism-in-everything phase once again and writing a “what if all MXTX novels are in the same world… and a very powerful druid-witch dude happens to stumble onto our favorite red-and-black boys and a (good number of) handful(s) of other fucked over kids… which activates his horrible, horrible dad instincts and he adopts every last one of them” thing.

It’s 3 chapters deep, has a bunch of random shit ranging from discussion of languages and their quirks, basic Irish lessons (bc teaching myself off and on for YEARS), pagan/wiccan shit (obviously), handicrafts, hunting, practical foraging and ultra-sustainable farming practices, how major religions stamp out smaller or “bad” ones…

It’s basically just what I write for my Og stuff but I’m not holding back at ALL and it’s MXTX. Main plot is MDZS but Binghe and Hua Cheng are the frustratingly ridiculous older brothers of the family that the dad-character is just sick and tired of listening to them pine and suspicious as hell about who they’re going after despite not wanting to even THINK about his boys being in romantic relationships with ANYONE.

Just… goofy happy but dramatic family shit and cute kids and teens bringing a shitload of foreign mythology and pagan culture and a hefty dash of my personal style of fantasy into the Xianxia/Wuxia world.

I just worry I might get flack for like destroying the culture and setting with… what I write about for the most part outside of like the vast majority of my fics.

Am I going nuts, or is this okay?

Edit for a clarification: I’m worried, as someone mentioned, of a white savior trope problem. I’m mainly trying to get out of that corner I seem to have driven myself in, but generally how it’s going so far is:

- cultivators are suspicious of foreign guy who’s apparently not just some weird merchant, this causes issues

- OC is more just trying to keep the kids he ends up running around with from doing stupid shit like pulling stupid stunts to be with people they declare their soul mates after like one brief interaction (and he fails a lot and gets all “I’m not mad I’m just disappointed. Now eat your dinner and go take a bath, you stink and are too thin again.”)

- major difference for whole setting is just some one off things here and there being introduced and made more common in a warped timeline (mostly just like fiber arts and some recipes and minor things that aren’t as obvious right off the bat like how ginkgo trees are in the same family as poison Ivy and stuff like that)

Generally the entire fic is just very done dad yelling at stupid teenagers for being stupid teenagers and having to dodge people who don’t like the weird wild man and judging him for not being able to read Chinese well and stuff.

Yet I’m still worried about white savior issues… because they’re an issue.

Now Wei Ying is stuck as the Yiling Laozu : main antagonist of Nie Huasiang's novel, the cruel Shizun that managed to make Lan Zhan and Lan Huan's life miserable under Yiling Peak to the point that Lan Huan died a miserable death and Lan Zhan became Hanguang-Jun the disciple to kill the Yiling Laozu once and for all. Well, at least he died right after his mock exams so...

With all honesty, Shen Qingqiu didn't expect to ascend for the third time into heaven. He seemed quite happy already living his life as a normal literature wanderer who would collect old books and rewrite their stories back again in new papers. Yet here he was, standing on the center of all the Heavenly gods, with the first to come being the Martial Goddess Qi qingqi, not exited at all to meet him nor show him around to what his next duties will be. Either way the civil God followed her to get out of the new debt he was in with the Bai Zhan Martial God. His first mission seemed pretty simple, just find the missing brides and kill the ghost. No one told him though, that he would suddenly have to deal with the demon king, (formerly the small stray he picked up and studied under him only for him to be the cause of his first fall.)

so i just finished reading the tgcf crossover chapter of the "scum villain au's" by feynite and oh gosh i love the concept

so shen yuan transmigrates into hua cheng and luo binghe reincarnates into xie lian

but what if!! each protagonist of the mxtx books are lbh and the love interests are sy

so in svsss the protagonist (of pidw not svsss) is lbh and he's a very immature protagonist right? right up till the end

sy is the love interest and he kind of ends up with lbh reluctantly almost? like he has issues with his sexuality which don't seem to be resolved at the end of svsss

in mdzs we start off with lwj realising his sexuality early on but before that i imagine he would have been kind of like sy kind of aroace

the protagonist, in this case wwx, still acts a little immature but is definitely more matire than lbh and!! in the beginning, as a child, he's alone, doesn't have anyone just like lbh almost all his life (save sy) but then he's adopted and has a family and he becomes more secure emotionally

THEN in tgcf, you get the love interest hc who seems to have quite easily accepted his love for the protagonist xl, he seems more mature in his love for the protagonist than lwj was and way more than sy was

and xl is a protagonist in a more classic way by which i mean his main purpose is to improve the world around him without turning to demonic powers and deals more with ethical dilemmas than the other 2 protagonists, like he has a bigger sense of duty and not just "i have to save myself" or "i'll save these people cuz they helped me and they're harmless"

what i'm trying to say is that the character growth of the protagonists and love interests of the mxtx novels increases in each series and i think it's fun to imagine the reincarnations of :

sy -> lwj -> hc with each new reincarnation becoming more confident in their love for the protagonist

and lbh -> wwx -> xl where the protagonist becomes more classically heroic and emotionally stable

so will the rumored 4th series follow this pattern? what do you think?

My pitch for a tgcf x svsss crossover:

a tgcf au where modern day xie lian reads a popular novel, finds out a character has the same name as him, that character ends up being the villain, the book has a lot of parallels to his life and several other characters have the names of people he knows and are all kind of in character (except for him). then he dies and boom svsss au. the kicker? qi rong wrote the book to cope with his trauma. he's transmigrated shang qinghua style and he and xl make up after talking about their past. several shenanigans ensue before that though.

hua cheng (who is qi rong's original character do not steal) is supposed to be the hero and eventually kill this ooc xie lian. but oh what a surprise he falls in love. tgcf goes on as almost normal, except for the svsss stuff (system, pop culture references, comically bad plots) and a lot happens.

Thought about writing this, still might, but I've got other projects. I'd love to discuss! I have a lot more to say

Recovery (SVSS, Qijiu --woah, that one pulled ahead in the last few months) Husband x Husband (Hunter x Hunter -- I did this as a yuletide treat to make up for defaulting one year and it's the gift that keeps giving) Minor Delays (SVSS, Qijiu -- wait really?) The Way Back Home (SVSS, Qijiu -- ....Qijiu nation represent. This one doesn't surprise me though, Chira did an amazing comic for it) Hold the Baby (MDZS -- okay this one was just where I was dumping the old twitter threads of a VERY specific Xiyao fix-it AU but you know what, thanks everyone)

I try to. If I don't succeed it's often because life kicked my ass.

6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Probably On Your Six (Reaper & Soldier 76, Overwatch)

7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

This is hard mostly because all of my fic tends to be some kind of fix-it in some way to give someone an obscenely happy ending. If you had to have me narrow it down based on what my most blatant fix-it to some miserable canon character ending was? I'd go with either Happiness Exists (As Long As You Believe in the Possibility) (Qijiu again!), and the Recovery-verse as a whole, or maybe Abstraction White Rose (Revolutionary Girl Utena), because by god I needed Utena and Anthy to kiss and I MADE THEM DO THAT, A LOT.

8. do you get hate on fics?

Xiyao troll hit me once or twice and I got a few cranky dudebros who got mad at me for my Eva fic on a message board once, but nothing all that bad if I'm honest.

9. do you write smut?

...well, I've tried but the plot gets in the way.

10. do you write crossovers? what's the craziest one you have written?

The first that come to mind are the MDZS/TGCF crossovers, but those are the same authors so I don't know that that counts. I DID write a very silly How The Grinch Stole Christmas/Nightmare Before Christmas short once upon an internet. It has since been lost to the great yawning of time and collapse of several social media platforms.

11. have you ever had a fic stolen?

Someone once scraped the awful Naruto fic I wrote when I was like 15 and changed the names to make it a Samurai Champloo fic which, um. Why? But that was pretty damn funny in hindsight.

12. have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes! In Russian, Chinese, and French. And I love every time it happens.

13. have you ever co-written a fic before?

My dayjob these days is cowriting with people. But on the fanfic side -- well, in short, yes. With the usual suspect (that would be Chira) and with my wife, who has once or twice dictated an entire story outline to me which I write in a day.

14. what's your all time favorite ship? Internet, I am old and you cannot expect me to pick one. Utena/Anthy maybe?

15. what is a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I still need to do the last story for the A Troublesome Charge series which I SWEAR will happen it's just I had a literal baby.

Character voice. I love character voice and I am told I am good at it.

Smut.

18. thoughts of writing dialogue in another language in fics?

To be honest if I don't know it I don't try. But I like bilingual writing when it's done well (see also: Everything, Everywhere, All At Once) -- but when it comes to fangirl Japanese or Chinese, I tend to leave that to the experts.

19. first fandom you wrote for?

mumblesBeastWars and thank god that was on a platform that crashed and burned. The Beast Wars fic I wrote for Yuletide was way better.

20. favorite fic you have written?

On Your Six, despite how I feel about Overwatch nowadays, I feel was probably one of the punchiest stories I've ever written. I would have absolutely used this story to audition to write for Blizzard's tie-in novellas if Blizzard hadn't...well, read the news on what happened at Blizzard.

The other one I'd probably say is Ghost Roads in my Troublesome Charge series (MDZS). I just feel like I nailed all the multiple plotlines and characters involved in that one and I'm super proud of it. I'm not tagging anyone because I have anxiety about this kind of thing, but please feel free to do this meme yourself if it crosses your dash!

Happy new year for us all, and that 2023 brings us again many good fandoms, fics and friends! <3

I saw some people doing an ao3 wrapped of fics they wrote and things like that, and I decided to make one of recs.

I cannot count how many fics/words I read in 2022, but it was *a lot*. According to my ao3 page, I have 1200 fics in my History, I know I haven’t read them all, some of them I opened and saw it wasn’t for me, some of them I tried reading and didn’t like, but still, those are 1200 fics there.

have bookmarked 120 fics/series just this year.

January:

anteros, punish me (leave me to bleed) by sakutsu - Haikyuu!!

I usually read Hinata centric fics, but this one was something else. It’s a Sakusa Kiyoomi centric fic, and it made me cry. It’s about his understanding and acceptance that he is aro, and how he sees the world. It is beautiful. Have tissues in hand.

February:

In Between by vetiverdreams - MDZS/TGCF crossover

This fic has *promise*. The first chapter alone has Xie Lian’s pov, of him meeting Wei Wuxian, and it’s great. There’s just so much there. I love how they wrote Wei Wuxian, and Hualian both. It’s a wip, but so worth it!

March:

Swaying Close by vetiverdreams - SVSSS

Liushen goodness! This was the year I discovered them, and this fic is just the sweetest!!!!! The fluffiest of fluffs. 5+1 times that LQG thought SQQ was cute. And SQQ was so cute, and the whole story is adorable! I loved the banter they had going on! This is also about SQQ being himself, having some modern attitudes.

April:

By folly or fickle fate by Vrishchika - MDZS @vrishchikawrites

First of all, this fic was written for me by my favourite writer, so need I say more????? Modern Au with cultivation. WWX is a cultivator, and one of the best ones, LWJ is not a cultivator, nor does he know this world exists. And they meet when WWX saves LWJ’s son, a-Yuan from an Abyss. This is so good. If you know Vrishchika, you know her characterization is *good*, and we have absolute BAMF WWX. Amazing!

May:

Burn your Wings by oWhiteKiwibird - BNHA - @crowbird-kamakse

Ohhh, this was also the year I discovered BNHA. And this was one of the first fics I’ve read. Canon divergence, and Izuku actually has his parents quirks (but because of how abused he and his mother were by his father, he doesn’t want to use it). He still gets OFA, and then when he gets to UA things start changing. It’s a beautiful story, it’s sad, and Izuku suffers a lot in the beginning, but there’s so much growth. And his and Todoroki’s relationship is beautiful.

June:

A Secret Never Shared by Vrishchika - MDZS - @vrishchikawrites

This fic should be on the list much earlier than June, because I had the privilege of betaing, and I had read it long before and reread it and loved every word of it. BAMF Wei Wuxian, who ascended instead of dying on the first siege. As always, perfect characterization, WWX is still WWX but also more, because he is a god now, and it changes people. This is a story of those 13 years where he would have been dead in canon. Also, the best a-Yuan. 

July:

BAMF Izuku!!!!!! On my bookmarks notes I say: “The teachers quickly realize how glad they should be Izuku has always wanted to be a hero.”. UA has an activity they have every year where they divide the hero classes into heroes and villains and they have to compete. Izuku is chosen to be the villain leader, and Bakugou the hero leader. This is a story about how intelligent and smart Izuku is, and how he can be a very good leader. 

August:

Bonnie & Klein by surveycorpsjean - BNHA 

Where the porn is the plot. Izuku and Bakugou, already pro heroes, are sent 10 years to the future, where they meet their future selves (who are married). The smut is fantastic, but it’s all about the feelings, and about loving yourself, and accepting who you are (in very literal ways sometimes). Super tender, loving and also very hot.

A love letter to Izuku (is what i’ve written on my bookmarks). This is a story where All Might chose Izuku so much earlier, when he was still a kid, so Inko is also involved. The relationship between them all is wonderful, they are really a family. This is a Izuku who is prepared and well-trained. Wonderful.

This is a canon divergence fic, where after White decides to take over Black’s life, he leaves home. Things change accordingly, he has to come clean a bit before . SeanWhite is perfect, good communication.

Canon divergent because Porsche remembers the first kiss at the pier, and decides to tell Kinn he does. Everything changes from that conversation forward. Absolutely gorgeous story. Great communication. Porsche stands his ground, and they learn to separate Kinn boss from Kinn boyfriend. I love their relationship very much. Really good communication, I need to say that again. The relationship is very healthy. And the smut is scorching.

December:

Erased Potential by theslytherinpaladin - BNHA

It’s a wip, but there’s over 230k words to read, and it is that good. Izuku knows that being quirkless will make becoming a hero much harder, that’s why he decides (when he’s in middle school) to ask Eraserhead to train him. He does, and things change accordingly. Smart Izuku, Dadzawa (without All Might bashing). Great fic!!!

So yes, mxy exists and is a different character from wwx (more story when the jins appear), qr was going to appear earlier but I had to reschedule the chapters of the colisseum and god, this drawing had been in my folders for too long.

Mxtx wwdits!au where hc, wwx and sqq are vampires and xl, lwj, and lbh are their familiars.

They all live together in a big ass mansion that the familiars mostly take care of. Hc is the youngest of the vamps, around 800 years old, wwx is about 900 and sqq is a couple years away from 1000. Hc was turned just when he entered adulthood, so he perpetually looks about 19. Wwx was turned when he was about 25, and sqq was turned when he was about 29. Lwj and lbh are 29 and 25 respectively, and xl is 31. Lbh has been a familiar the longest, followed by lwj and then xl.

Sqq took orphan street kid lbh off the streets and invited him to live with him, and so lbh has been his familiar for 10 years now and is kinda anxious as to why sqq hasnt turned him yet. The reason is mostly bc sqq wants lbh to live his life free of the burden of vampirism and immortality, and assumes that lbh will eventually leave him if he just ignores the issue enough (even tho he desperately does not want him to leave. He’s quite fond of his white lotus).

Lwj actually comes from a very long line of vampire hunters, and was actually intending to kill wwx. However while he was stalking him he accidentally kinda fell for him a bit, so he decided to become wwx’s familiar instead (he tries to keep his past a secret, bc he doesnt wanna freak everyone out). Hes been a familiar for about six years now.

Xl has been a familiar for only about three years. He used to be a detective, and one night while investigating a series of strange murders he came across an incredibly handsome man who instantly bewitched him. Soon after their encounter xl was accused of corruption and was blamed for the murders, and was arrested. The mysterious man from that night swept in and wiped the minds of everyone involved, saving xl, so xl became hc’s familiar to pay him back (hc insists that he does not need to be paid back, but if it keeps gege by his side then that’s alright with him).

Xl is actually the reincarnation of the crown prince of xianle, who saved hc’s life when he was still human. Later on the two became lovers, but xl was cruelly murdered by jun wu, a covetous vampire king who then turned hc. Hc has spent the past 800 years finding xl’s reincarnations only for them all to be murdered by jun wu. This is xl’s 10th reincarnation. (Also xl definitely has attempted mass murder in this au, which he hides from the others. Bc of this, he is the only one who lwj confesses his true nature to).

Also lbh is definitely still half Demon in this au, which eventually comes to up later and causes all sorts of problems
