stuff you wish you knew when starting out or

If there is one thing you should know anon, is that you should always draw for yourself foremost.

Maybe when you do commissions or art school homework that's a different thing, but art is freedom of expression. Please remember this, as someone who struggles the tangent of what is it for me or for others.

Another piece of advice may not have to do with art but for your experience when it comes to sharing your art online. Becoming an internet famous at an early age or being popular at that early age can really affect you mentally in a negative way. And also that you must value your safety and be more wary of how other people (especially older people) treat you.

How would I know this? Because I used to be like that in the FNAF fandom, and that fandom was HUGE. (Which leads me to worrying about the 14 year old who took part in animating the new spiderverse movie, side note)

I do not know how old you are anon, but regardless of your age, do not let people control you or allow you to stray from your path of wanting. You have your own space and others who respect it, you should respect back. Keep in your boundaries. Funny I'm telling this to you, as someone who struggles with it, but advice is advice and if anything, sharing my experience maybe helps.

Another advice, something that's actually art related. It's okay if you're struggling or wanting to find a footing in an art style, but don't think too hard about finding an exact one. What you think and imagine is fluid. Don't be too harsh on yourself to solidify it. Dont worry about not having an identity soon or worry about being samey. You will eventually find something you're comfortable doing, which in turn gives you your identity in the art world.

People always worry about not having a consistent art style, but personally I believe that's a way for their experimentations and creative thought processes to expand and explore.

If you want to have multiple art styles, then that's fine. If you want to have a single art style, that's fine too. Tying back to my first piece of advice here, remember that you should do this for yourself foremost.

Finally, one more piece of advice that I hold dear to my heart: absolutely go fuck-all and grab all kinds of inspirations, even in the media you consume and the things that happen to you and experience in your life.

I love cartoons and I like watching them (and I still do it; a bumbling 21 year old watching bluey). They were my main drive to create stories, character designs, pretty palettes, etcetera. Literally all of my original characters, ideas and storybeats are inspired by at least one or two things I enjoy.

It is always the good mind to get reference and please never be ashamed of borrowing ideas (unless such ideas are made by a niche creator, then consider asking and crediting, addressing where you got it from).

If you are starting out, you can use bases and templates to help you learn basic practices. Like training wheels on a bike. Remember to credit and or ask permission about things you're tracing from, and other resources you're using. Once you're ready or finding something you enjoy or find a footing in, break away from that.

I'm so kdhdkdjdkd jazzed about the fjorester proposal !!!! But something that popped up pretty immediately that baffled me was these like... cope posts i guess? Of how "beau and jester should cheat leaving their partners for eachother and how dw guys marriage is just going to spice up the inevitable affair" and it's not even treated as a joke and Im just confused? Like i got into cr2 by the time it was over with so idk what it was like waiting for releases, but why after all this time do people hold on as much as they do? Do they like the story or not?

So I will be totally honest: I am not above checking the blogs of those I know hold terrible opinions, for a number of reasons both reasonable (keeping an eye out for potential harassment; inspiration for meta; my genuine enjoyment of analyzing fandom trends) and less so (schadenfreude and sending DMs that say Can You Believe This Idiot) but I actually have not seen this! To be clear, I would not be surprised it was out there - heaven knows this was a refrain during late Campaign 2 and in the leadup to the two-shot - but I thought that most people finally gave up in late 2022 after the two-shot made it clear the existing relationships are still very much in place. Granted I, as always, rarely go on Twitter.

Anyway. I think some of it is just that people whose enjoyment of works hinges on their ships becoming canon, rather than that being one of many facets to their fandom, also tend to not know when to give up just generally (you can look around this website and still find people hopping mad and/or pining for resolution regarding shows that ended before Campaign 2 even started). I think most of them did finally give up and leave, which is probably healthier for both them and the fandom, but there will probably be a dwindling number of holdouts who will gasp out on their deathbed fifty years hence "Beau and Jester should have been together" to a politely confused hospice nurse.

To actually answer your question, no, they do not like the story. I know I've been very hard on people who seem to only be able to enjoy fiction through a lens of either shipping or intense projection of the self onto existing characters, but in my defense, I'm right. This is a whole separate post, which to be honest I've kind of already made several times, but the usual complaint about the Campaign 2 noncanon ships (echoed in the complaints about Campaign 3 primarily by those who do like the canon ships thereof) was that they would have happened and been flawless and perfect but for that Pesky Plot, ie, the story. Unless the entire point of a story is a romance (eg: the genre that is cleverly titled "Romance") romance is always optional.

I also think, to be honest, Campaign 2 attracted people who were patient. This is a good thing! I think that, for example, people who are not entirely feeling Campaign 2 13 episodes in are valid, because I was similarly enjoying myself but not entirely won over by the plot yet, and it was only a combination of that patience and the burgeoning character dynamics that kept me going (plus the fact that watching week to week is a lower commitment than a binge). Granted I think if you fully give up at that point you are weak and will not survive the winter and should probably go watch Michael Bay movies or Bluey, but that's a separate point. Anyway. Some people are patient beyond a point where it is rewarding or even neutral and pass into a realm of showing up to the Story That Has Fjorester and Beauyasha In It muttering "I hope this doesn't have any fucking Fjorester and Beauyasha". I don't know how to help them, nor do I particularly want to, but I do know that not going on Twitter has been super helpful.

One final note: again, haven't seen the thing you mention in your ask yet in relation to this one-shot and not for lack of poking around Tumblr at least; but I have seen people who were deeply bitter about Campaign 2 but are still around for Campaign 3, though not a ton, and this was also frankly true of people who loved Campaign 1 and have not really cared since but still stick around. There's a weird zombie problem in the fandom; you get people who are very invested in being a fan of Critical Role and can't seem to leave, but haven't actually been happy for literal years, either because they were ultimately only fans of Vox Machina, or the Mighty Nein, or a specific ship within that. It is actually something I try to be cognizant of because I was very cautious about becoming that during the stretch when I was more frustrated by Campaign 3 than I am now. I think, ultimately, it's a conflation of one's fandom with one's external identity and I don't know how that happens or how to fix it but that might also be a factor: people who really don't like the show and haven't for years and are grasping at a thing they think would fix that and make them happy again, and refuse to admit it might be time to move on because that would mean they need to change their conception of themselves.

He’s unironically a Bluey fan. Wishes he had parents like Chili and Bandit, though his parents are always telling him he needs to grow up, but he doesn’t wanna

Panromantic asexual, but he doesn’t think about dating much. He’s much better at friendships than relationships.

Physical touch is his love language

He chooses not to lose his lil’ southern drawl because it makes him who he is, and he doesn’t wanna lose any part of who he is

He sometimes dyes his hair with streaks of color, but he doesn’t do it much because his parents would ground him

Him and Heidi are very tight, they’re very good friends, he’s basically her little brother

He ends up growing to around 5’10’’ and towers over Cartman, it’s kinda cute how he towers over people like that

He would definitely be a hardcore pokémon fan, what’s not to live about cute monsters (most of them anyway) and going off on your very own pokémon journey?

My Top 15 Favorite Cartoons

Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir

Miraculous is truly my favorite show at the moment. Avatar may be a bitter better in terms of quality (it's next on this list) but I always have so much fun watching this show. Miraculous gets way too much criticism. It's just a fun show about two dorks in love who don't realize it because of secret identity shenanigans. This show is at it's best when it's not taking itself too seriously. My favorite episodes are Evillustrator and Simpleman. Two of the funniest episodes!

Avatar: The Last Airbender

A timeless masterpiece. Avatar is one the best shows of all time. This was my favorite show growing up. Though I like to say Miraculous is my favorite show right now because I'm actively watching that one and participating in the fandom, Avatar is probably my true favorite. I would frequently pretend to be a waterbender when I played in the pool. And this was the first TV show I watched that got me interested in the behind the scenes of what goes into making a cartoon.

Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia

For the first few episodes of Trollhuntes, I honestly wasn't that interested. I actually stopped watching for awhile with no intention of continuing. I thought this show was a bust. But then, I had a friend convince me to give it another chance. And oh boy, am I glad I did. The show ended up being incredible!! It has the perfect balance of drama, action, romance, and comedy. And all of the characters are very likeable! Which seems pretty rare (except for Merlin. He sucks. Worst character. My favorite character is Steve). The others series in the trilogy, 3Below and Wizards, are great too. But Trollhunters is definitely the best one. (The movie sucked though. Worst ending....)

The Owl House

The Owl House was cut way too short. This show had so much potential. What we got was still amazing but it had the potential to be even better had it been given the chance. But despite being cut short, it was still an amazing show! My favorite character is Amity.

Gravity Falls

Mystery is my favorite genre and I wish more cartoons would have a little mystery in their plots. It's so fun to play along with the characters and try to solve the mystery yourself. It can be really satisfying when you get it right or it can be an exciting twist if you get it wrong! Gravity Falls gave me a new interest in codes and ciphers.

Steven Universe

I didn't like Steven Universe at first. Back when season 1 was airing and it would come on tv, I changed the channel. Season 1 was a bit boring for my taste. But I exposed myself to the spoiler that Garnet was actually a fusion all along which sounded really interesting to me so I thought maybe just one time, I won't change the channel. And the episode when Peridot first started staying at their house was on and I immediately fell in love with Peridot! I watched the entire arc of Peridot learning to appreciate Earth and by the time I finished watching those episodes, I was hooked! And of course, I love the songs!! No Matter What is my favorite one.

Adventure Time

Adventure Time is such a fun and goofy show. It always makes me laugh. But what I loved the most were the scenes with Marceline & Ice King. Their relationship was such a beautiful and tragic story.

Amphibia

I love Amphibia way more than I thought I would. I first started watching Amphibia during an Owl House hiatus because I needed something new to watch while I waited and I thought I'd give this a chance. I binged the entirety of season 1 in a day. Unfortunately I fell a bit behind and I still haven't seen season 3 yet (I've heard it's a sad ending! 😨) So I need to get on that!!!

Bluey

I'm honestly so surprised by how good this show is. When I first heard about it I expected it to be really cheesy and only enjoyable to really young children. But boy was I wrong. This show tells touching and relatable stories and reminds me of a happier time. My favorite episodes are Rain and Flat Pack.

Danny Phantom

Danny Phantom's ending was a bit rushed and they kinda completely forgot about Valerie's whole arc. I was looking forward to seeing where that would go but it ended abruptly. Like, the episode immediately before the final episode set up a whole story that we just never got. But other than that, I really enjoyed Danny Phantom. I love that they let Jazz discover Danny's secret so early on instead of dragging it out. (As many shows do now.) My favorite episode was Reality Trip.

Kim Possible

Kim Possible is always a fun watch. I love all of the characters! Shego and Dr Drakken are my favorite! (They're a bit of a package deal) and Rufus is a close second. And my favorite episode is Emotion Sickness.

American Dragon: Jake Long

Something about secret identities is so appealing to me. This is like the fourth show on the list, I believe, that involves secret identities lol. This is another show that had a bit of a rushed ending in my opinion. They tried to tie up too many loose ends in two short episodes it seemed (at least The Owl House did three long episodes) But still a great show nonetheless! Sometimes when I Jake talks, I can't help but hear Zuko 🤣

Teen Titans

I loved Teen Titans as a kid! (and still now of course). We were robbed of a Starfire centered season with this show!!! When I was a kid, Starfire was favorite character (I lean more toward Raven now). But every character got an arc that lasted a whole season long, except for Starfire. I kept waiting for it to come but it never did. Not only that, but the show ended on a cliffhanger! I think that's why I hate Teen Titans Go! so much. They could have brought this show back and continued Tara's long awaited story as well as finally give Starfire her season long arc! But instead they made a goofy parody of the show... I'd still really like to see this show come back some day, for real.

Lilo and Stitch: The Series

Lilo and Stitch was probably my favorite Disney movie growing up. So, naturally, I became a fan of the series as well! I always related a lot to Lilo. And Lilo and Stitch did a few crossovers with other favorite shows of my (such as American Dragon and Kim Possible) which made the show even more fun!

Winx Club

This was my all time favorite show as a kid before Avatar came out! I was obsessed!!!!! Winx Club made me obsessed with fairies. I wanted to be a fairy so badly. I always tried to make my friends play fairies with me. I tried to get all my friends like this show just as much as I did. Unfortunately it was very underrated. Now that I've re-watched a few times after growing up, I definitely understand why. Some of the dialogue is pretty cringy and the 4Kids dub changed a bunch of stuff for no reason. Although I will always stand by the 4Kids dub being the best one.

1: Y’know at first I was gonna say Bubble Guppies or something (it’s got a fandom, just a small one), but then I remembered I have a better contender:

This old thing. I spend years trying to figure out what it was and describing it to people to see if anyone would know, AND SOMEONE FINALLY DID LIKE LAST YEAR. I actually think I have more forgotten cartoons, but they’re so fuzzy in my memory that I don’t even know…

11: Guys. Hear me out. Buddies movies. I think they would actually work great as some kind of animated reboot that pays homage to old 2000’s Disney stuff. I think I would want it to either be so bad it’s good, or be an actually well written thing with lore that plays on the movies’ weird as hell world building and stuff. I would want the world itself to be some Bluey type thing, where dogs are dominant species, but their owners and the humans generally are actually pretty important characters so I’m still working that out. And it’s have to be very interconnected with Christmas but still have a main theme of sports, for reasons obvious to anyone who’s actually seen the movies. I actually meant to do concept art for this back around Christmas time but I FREAKING FORGOT TOO. I rewatched Santa Buddies because it’d been years since I’d seen it, and like, it’s so bad. Like dude these movies suck but they occupy a special place in my heart and I think I’m onto something here. I think it could make a good cartoon if someone tried hard enough. I care about these puppies a lot actually.

18: I mean I don’t think it’s the WORST thing I can think of, but I definitely think not making good use of the medium is bad. By that I mostly mean; cartoons are not confined to reality. I wanna watch a show about a bunch of cute weird little dudes, then I want to see them grapple with the reality of being cute weird little dudes, because I’m a toon fan. You can put so much personality into everything in animation, more than I think live action could ever accomplish, and I want that to be used. Like Bluey wouldn’t be the same if it was a bunch of real humans in real settings, or even if it was a bunch of photorealistic dogs. A big part of Bluey is its visual appeal, with its vibrant pastel color palette and kind of blocky physical design. Or like old Felix the Cat cartoons, where a big part of his appeal was his ability to mess with the world around him in a way that live film stars at the time couldn’t. That’s still a big part of Felix; if you’ve ever seen an episode of The Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat you’d understand. His whole shtick is how he takes advantage of the medium, and that’s great. I love that. My what a long paragraph this is.

1. BLACK SAILS. It ended in 2017 and I still think about it OFTEN. Literally the best and one of my absolute favorite shows ever 🥹

2. Bob's Burgers. My comfort show. It's perfection

3. Adventure Time. Finn and Jake are an absolute blast and LSP is my forever love. I just really love this show okay

4. American Horror Story. Specifically seasons 1-5 👌 after that, for me, it flopped pretty hard but those early seasons are so gd good

5. The Haunting of Bly Manor. Is it a ghost story? A love story? It's so much more and I love it so flippin much. I feel like it got a lot of hate and I have no idea why because I wish I could watch it for the first time again

6. The Haunting of Hill House. Similar to above, I wish I could watch this for the first time again

7. Peaky Blinders. TOMMY MFING SHELBY. I actually need to finish the last season or 2, but oof. Love it

8. Bluey. My toddler's favorite show. It's super cute and I feel like I learn lessons as a parent when I watch it with her too. I'm low key jealous of how mentally stable the kids who watch it are going to be 🙃

My Other Fanfics in the Future

Well, I made announcements about my 2 Loonatics fanfics-related stories coming soon. So here are my other fanfics that I am making. But before I am going to show you my other fanfics, I like to share what most of them are like. Kervinverse related. If you checked my Tumblr header it's pretty obvious.

As you may wonder what is the Kervinverse is all about? The Kervinverse is like the multiverse but with all different kinds of Kervin. Inspired by Spiderman Into the Spiderverse all the versions of Kervin contained different personalities, stories, almost the same appearance, fighting styles, and special abilities. One of the most signature outfits is the black and red formal suit.

I already made a folder in toyhouse. However, most of it are unfinished and still ongoing.

People think that those stories a self-insert but it is actually not. Me and my other Kervins are the same but they are different the appearance, abilities, and personalities. An example is Denk Ops’s Chris Danger from the WWE games. And note that this is another long announcement for the other fanfics

So anyway, here are my Kervinverse stories that I would really like to share about Wattpad in the future. So are book covers later

KERVINVERSE STORIES (Including crossovers):

Grand Theft Auto Origins: Kervin Made Liberty – Set in the GTA HD Universe. Before Kervin (GTA Online) came to the place called San Andreas, he was just a very young boy who was born in the place called Liberty with his parents. His father Claude who became rich and retired to a life crime and his wife Misty who used to be a prostitute. It was normal and happy life for him and his parents. But when years passed when he is getting older, he slowly starts to realize what kind of broken world he is living in.

Now for those who played the HD Universe of the GTA Games you know every protagonist in the HD universe like Niko, Johnny, Luis, Michael Franklin, and Trevor. As much as they have different stories and perspectives but this story about GTA OC that he was living with full of offensiveness, disrespectfulness, brutal honesty, and others. An example in GTA IV a radio commercial of Babies Overnight that said that someone was not satisfied with the baby it can be disposed of. Although it would be interesting to have that backstory for my next OC for GTA. So, this story may contain a lot of murder and crimes on what led to him going to San Andreas. So, watch out. And for those who have not played GTA Online why his parents are both Claude and Misty is because it was part of the premium edition for free in Epic Games.

Def Jam X Kung Fu Panda: Book 1 Fight for A New Fight (maybe a working title) - After the events of Def Jam Vendetta, Fight For New York, and The Kung Fu Panda Trilogy including Legends of Awesomeness. Set during Paws of Destiny Season 2 in the Kung Fu Panda universe while in Def Jam 2 years later in the year 2005 after Crow's death (Fight for NY still takes place in 2003) Kervin (Def Jam Fight For NY) the new leader D-Mob's crew but also officially known as the Def Jam Crew after Blaze appointed him to take his place. Kervin has to manage every venue, club, and arenas in New York including places that Crow took over. But in Chinese New Year there was something strange that Kervin and his crew got transported to a different universe. Including former members, fighters, and circuit fighters.

Now, this fanfiction sounded really odd. As you may know why I am making crossover fanfic of Kung Fu Panda X Def Jam? Easy. The first one is because this is what would have been my PS2 games if I ever have a PS2. I was thinking of Mortal Kombat or Yakuza for Def Jam but Kung Fu Panda is the only thing I know when I was 7 years old. The second is because back in the days Hip Hop mixed with Kung Fu was very popular. Although Def jam may be a wrestling game martial arts stole my heart in Def Jam Fight For NY. I heard about things like the Wu-Tang Clan for example but the biggest problem for me is that I am not a true fan of Def Jam because I don’t know about hip hop artists. Just only the games so I will be focusing on their video game counterparts in their fictitious manner meaning pretending real-life characters with their real name are fictional characters. So, if there and fun facts in those real-life counterparts I may add them to it like easter eggs. The third is that there are Kung Fu Panda characters that did not get enough love and mostly art. So many recognizable characters like Po, Tigress, Tai Lung, and many more have become the most recognizable characters in the movies. But what about the tv shows like Legends of Awesomeness and Paws of Destiny? One of my favorite characters of Legends of Awesomeness is Peng, in short, he is the nephew of Tai Lung and he is such an interesting character that he deserves a lot more love. While for Paws of Destiny is Xiao because she is such a cute character, so is her personality and the best character to have hugs with. So, what I am trying to say is that I need to start off with the character that is unrecognizable then bring it recognizably. I may also add characters from shorts like student Mei Ling in the future book and it would be funny and to see rogue Mei Ling. 2 Mei Lings in one. Even Su and Master Snow Leopard because are both female leopards with the same appearance and outfit. I may also include some characters from the flash game Tales of Po and may possibly rewrite them in different stories because I love the character designs thanks to Blue Maxima’s FlashPoint. And the fourth and final part is that to make the Def jam games more recognizable. Def Jam in music is not absolutely enough but video games are. The Def Jam games did not bring a sequel after Fight For NY so I might as well make a sequel with interesting and experimental crossover fanfic just like The Loonatics Road.

The Red Fox (Kingdom Force Spinoff and maybe a working title) - The Kingdom Force has 5 members defending the 5 Kingdoms. Luka the wolf who leads in red, Jabari who runs in yellow, TJ who drills in green, Delilah who swings in orange, and Norvyn who strengthens in blue. Each of the 5 drives Kingdom Riders and turns them into Alpha Mech to fight against evil in the 5 Kingdoms. But even if they save the day multiple times the 5 Kingdoms are still filled with more crime and every antagonist came back doing other crimes and evil deeds because they were not arrested or eliminated. That's is when a red fox came along...

I have seen popular fandoms in cartoons that were supposed to aim at younger kids like Lion Guard, MLP, Paw Patrol, and even Bluey. But Kingdom Force is the cartoon that did get enough love. It's like Power Rangers and Voltron but with anthropomorphic animals like Zootopia. However, the stories and episodes in the show is very confusing and give me almost a lot of questions. But I do like the character designs in the show. My favorite hero is Luka who is a leader with and cute cuddly character personality and my favorite villain Envie Fernadez which she has a pretty hot design, name and voice and so is her personality. Reminds me of Sly Cooper but I have not played the game yet. But for the red fox also OC Kervin (Kindom Force) It’s still at work.

APB Reloaded X Zootopia: Anyone Can Be All You Can’t Be: - In Zootopia “Anyone Can Be Anything” But in San Paro “Be All You Can’t Be” Zootopia is a place where vicious predators and meek prey live in harmony. This means that people in Zootopia live together without the prey getting eaten by predators and predators not getting feared by the prey. They almost eat like us, they sleep like us, they speak like us, they walk like us, they run like us, they bathe like us (well almost), and most importantly they use technology like us. While San Paro maybe has a good look to sightsee but this city has a lot of crime. Robberies, bombings, thefts, drug dealing, murders and causalities, vandalism, and much more that we can think of. But that does not mean there is no justice in this world. When the Criminals like the Blood Roses and the G-Kings try to take over San Paro? The Enforcers Prentiss Tigers and Praetorians from come and save the day. What would happen when a human Enforcer meets a police fox and a police bunny? And how did it happen? Only one way to find out.

Now this one is also a Kervinverse crossover story. It focuses on Kervin (APB Reloaded) meeting Judy and Nick. I am trying to find a way on how will they meet each other. But the only thing ideas I know is that it can be a delivery gone wrong, an invention gone haywire or maybe a criminal stole something magical that is transported to a different universe. But I have a lot of strange things in the game like the Christmas events and Halloween events. I like to see any volunteers who play APB Reloaded. Alza Flare (Road Rovers Fan Spinoff)- Alza is a black cat born in the place in New York City, USA. He was born inside a pet shop without cat parents since he was born. His parents' status is unknown. Although he did make friends with other cats and non-cats in the shop. But it was a short while until a human customer named Drayson Flare and adopted him as Alza Flare. Alza has been Drayson's pet for 3 years and they instantly became best friends but when during the time when they are about to go home from the park. A terrible accident happened.

A long time ago I watched Road Rovers on my phone just to try something nostalgic and the show is pretty good though although there are some parts that don’t use their powers all the time. One part that caught my eye is how brutal car accident in the episode “Dawn of The Groomer” which gave me an idea of my new anti-villain OC character named Alza Flare. Sadly, he does have an image of him yet. But I will tell you that I will give you an interesting revenge story for him.

The Best Surfer In The World (Surf’s Up Spinoff. Maybe a working a title and synopsis change) - After the events of Surf's Up and Surf's Up 2: Wavemania. There was once a wolf who lives in the place of Chicago Illinois. He quit his own career due to being a rejected member of Hang 5 for being too unstable and after beating J.C. in a tournament years ago and after his early retirement, he spends his normal life as an ice cream man in his own ice-cream motorcycle with one of his own freshest ingredients and swears to himself that he would never in the waters again. Until he met a young Toyger.

Surf’s Up is my first favorite mockumentaries since I was young. It’s like you are watching animals andromorphic animals absolutely existed in the world we live in. It had an interesting story and writing so are the interesting characters. But when I watched Surf’s Up Wavemania. Well, I honestly love the WWE Superstars and Diva came into the movie but the story did not actually surprise me a lot. Even if the movie has a lot of beautiful locations it still did not surprise me enough because it is more like an adventure than a tournament. That is why I am planning to start my fanfiction in a new different approach with a real story and a real rivalry. Starting with wolf inspired and based on CM Punk during the part when he won the WWE belt against Cena in Money in the Bank when I watched it since intermediate school with a little rename change so it won’t be obvious. And of course, my Toyger OC because he would be trained by his own surfing master. Also, I added a Slam City easter egg

Fire Pro Wrestling World Origins: Story of 2 Angels – There is no synopsis of them yet. But I will tell you they are brother and sister with the last name “Angel” The brother who is a pop artist while the sister who joined a motorcycle club. What they both have in common is they both can fight. Their stories about my 2 new Fire Pro OCs will be coming soon. But they are not part of the fighting roads.

Day 7: Time For Your Favourites

It was a staple of modern romance, or so Atsushi had been told, the exchanging of phone numbers.

Quite possibly, Atsushi reasoned, this so-called staple of modern romance might even mean more to a girl like Kyouka because of how near and dear her cell phone was to her heart. She kept it on a lanyard, like a necklace, with the body’s device and the bunny-wabbit phone charm right over her chest, more often than not, slinging slightly to the left which was the side of the body the heart was on.

Atsushi’s own heart was pounding quite fearsomely as he tried to find the words. He had to be casual but engaging; direct but not too direct that he seemed far too invested in such a teeny-tiny thing; show fondness but not too much fondness that it might make things awkward between them. Especially because that they were going to live together from now on. Close quarters. Not just the same dorm, in general, but the same room. Atsushi was an adult, after all, he could be trusted; Kyouka, whilst not an adult, could also not be trusted, but she had a professionalism that Atsushi lacked because he hadn’t killed thirty-five people.

Still, he observed. He was part of a detective agency. He had to learn to think and observe and then judge those observations and all those on-goings of thinking so he could make good elected moves.

And right now, he was observing that Kyouka was getting ready for bed. He was too. He was using it as a façade so he could be covert about observing her.

She was already in her pyjamas. A kimono that was loose enough to sleep in. Unpatterned and practical. She had a little bowl nearby; more comfortable to brush her teeth by her bed with it rather than over the sink like Atsushi preferred. She was very efficient, he thought. Thirty seconds to each tooth and individually at that – she had a toddler’s toothbrush, one of the tiny heads and soft bristles, the stick itself was pink and sparkly. It was cute.

Whilst Kyouka brushed her teeth, Atsushi fiddled with his bed socks. Anything to make up for time. Tightening the drawstrings on them. It was strange; he usually wore slips or ankle socks during the day, but he liked the extra comfort at night. A small treat for himself.

Kyouka spat out the foam in her mouth and Atsushi was surprised by the noise. He dropped the drawstrings on his socks. Poms-poms and all. He stole another glance at her from his peripheries. Even when she was cleaning out her mouth – gargling with water – she looked so cute. It made him jittery and nervous.

He would, admittedly, feel better if he slept in the closet with the linen. Kyouka was a girl, after all. Four years his junior. She needed her space and privacy, but she had specifically insisted otherwise. She didn’t want to be lonely and Atsushi knew the impulse all too well. He had never wanted to be lonely, but he’s spent most his life in such a perpetual stage, but he was beginning to leave from such a stage. If he could take Kyouka with him, he would be more than satisfied. So he collapsed to such an insistence – pretty blue eyes pleading and all.

“Why are you staring, Atsushi?” Kyouka asked.

Atsushi blinked. She disrupted all his reveries and daydreamings. He turned sheepish, cringing slightly and he scratched the back of his head.

“That obvious, huh?” he asked.

Kyouka nodded. Very eerily.

“Sorry.” Atsushi mumbled.

“I don’t care.” Kyouka said. “I know someone as sweet and clumsy as you would never be able to do anything nefarious to me. Assassinate me, for instance.”

Atsushi erred. He didn’t know what to say for that. He thinks, partially, that that might be an insult but her words are so prettily vague that he can’t be certain. It could have been a compliment in equal measure; she called him sweet for every bit as a prospect killer, or worse, after all.

“Is there something you wanted?” Kyouka asked and she blinked. Her lashes fluttered like butterfly wings; she had surprised even herself. “Perhaps you are tired and I was taking too long. I’m sorry, I’ll turn the lights off if you like.”

Kyouka rocketed to her feet, the hem of her kimono swinging around her ankles daintily. Atsushi, set into motion by her inertia but too slow, half got up. Hand outreached, on one knee, his fingers looked as though he could graze the material of her bedclothes but in actuality, there was a fair bit of space between them. She, closer to the rest of the dorm, he, closer to the linen closet, and all that tatami mat between them with the futons sprawled out.

“No.” Atsushi said, at long last, after holding an accidental breath. “No, it’s not that.”

“Oh, okay.” Kyouka returned to kneeling on the floor.

“I wanted to ask you something.” Atsushi said. He licked his lips. His heart hammered. The pinnacle of modern romance, he reminded himself, or so he had been told, he had never been shown any kind of love, let alone the plasticky and flashy kind shown on melodramatic television love stories. “I wanted to know if you wanted to exchange phone numbers. We didn’t before but – but I think it would be a good idea. I don’t want to be separated from you.”

His words were awkward as they tumbled out of his mouth. But they were sincere. Kyouka heard such sincerity in his voice.

“I agree.” she said. “I don’t want to be separated from you either.”

Atsushi couldn’t control his face when he heard such an earnest reply. His lips wobbled only to widen. He looked as though he had had a stroke with how he smiled such a wonky smile, but he couldn’t be happier right now to hear such a thing. A small thing as it was.

Kyouka must have felt the same. There was a little bit more colour to her cheeks than usual. A twitch on her mouth; perhaps a curt smile. The blue of her eyes glimmered.

“Thank you for asking.” she added.

“I hear modern phones can automatically register their numbers, I’ve never done it before, let’s try together.” Atsushi suggested.

“That sounds nice. Let’s try.” Kyouka agreed.

Both were a little bit unsteady in their hands as they readied their phones. Though, for vastly different reasons. Kyouka was a little bit nervous to instil her own things on her mother’s phone. Atsushi had never been close to someone before where they would exchange phone numbers; he was just that little bit infatuated.

Still, the chassis of their phone clinked. Kissed, if you would. And the red lights on them flashed. A notification blinked on their screens and yet another strange and swirly smile appeared on Atsushi’s face. The automatic exchange of phone numbers was complete. Successful.

“Thank you, Atsushi.” Kyouka whispered.

“Thank you as well, Kyouka-chan.” Atsushi said. “A-Are you ready for bed?”

“Mmhm.” Kyouka nodded.

“I’ll get the lights.” Atsushi said, thinking about how it was the gentlemanly thing to do went unsaid but the words still clotted on his bumbling tongue.

Atsushi got up and he circled around Kyouka and her bedding. He hit the lights and the room was in a bluey-blackness now. He thought about how, in the future, it would be Kyouka’s responsibility to turn off the lights since he was content to sleep in the closet like a stray reaper but for now, he would indulge in the domesticity of the right thing to do.

He circled back around her, more difficult this time in the dark but he saw her body wriggle and writhe. She sighed when she finally got comfortable, chin jutting into the crook of her plushie bunny’s neck and shoulders.

“Good night, weretiger.” She bade him quietly.

Atsushi sighed as he plopped down on his own bedding. He got under the sheets and he let her wait just a little bit longer.

“Good night, Kyouka-chan.” He replied, nigh breathless, after what he thought was too much time.

Kyouka mustn’t have minded. It was possible that she was already asleep. She was primed for efficiency, after all, so Atsushi couldn’t help but check on her. She looked so cute, just out of the covers of her futon on the floor with him. Her pretty little face at peace, definitely dreaming sweet things, he thought since she looked so uncharacteristically at bliss. It made him happy, so he smiled to himself.

Then, a red flash caught his eye. Atsushi blinked and he realised it was his phone. A second red flash. No, he corrected himself as he made the shapes out in the din. Their phones. Atsushi could even make out the roundness of the plump phone charm on the far side of Kyouka’s phone. Atsushi could have gasped when he realised. He would have thought she would feel more comfortable with it on her neck, just in case something happened, but she had taken it off instead. So, they weren’t the only ones sleeping next to each other, Atsushi thought as he closed his eyes, trying to ignore the occasional scarlet phosphene on the back of his eyelids as he tried to go to sleep as easily as Kyouka had.

What’s so great about Dewey?

A Dewey Duck Character Analysis and Appreciation Post

Part 1 (because this accidentally got super long) - Why I didn’t like Dewey at first, and Dewey’s relationship with Huey.

So I’ve not been in the Ducktales fandom long and there are probably people who have done this better, but I wanted to talk a little bit about why the show and the characters are so amazing, starting with a character analysis of Dewey Duck.

I’m going to be honest, in the beginning I wasn’t Dewey’s biggest fan (that’s changed now and this is a Dewey appreciation post I promise!)

It got worse in later episodes particularly Day of the Only Child! and Sky Pirates in the Sky! Dewey seemed so self-absorbed and un-aware. The whole show is about him, and he’s freaking out because no one is paying any attention to him? Come on Dewey!

There’s a really nice meta here which talks about The Scene in The Secret of Castle McDuck. It goes perfectly with what I’ll be talking about later regarding how Dewey relates to his siblings.

We’ll definitely be coming back to this scene, but for now, I just want to highlight one of the things Huey says when the two argue about Dewey keeping everything he knows about Della a secret:

“Or you just kept it to yourself so you could feel special. Classic Dewey.”

And Huey is probably right: Dewey seems to be keeping secrets, at least partly, to feel special. And for me, (not saying this went for everyone) it came off that Dewey was more special than his brothers because he was the one who got to find out about their mother and, as a consequence, got a lot of screen time.

I mean, he literally “searched a forbidden library, crashed The Sunchaser, talked to the goddess Selene”…

It was only on the second watch that I really got why Dewey doesn't feel that he was as special as I, and other viewers, might see him as.

I love the triplets distinct personalities and as a casual viewer you can distinguish them pretty easily: Huey’s the smart one, Dewey’s the adventurous one, and Louie’s “the evil one”.

But their personalities go way deeper than that and the show really rewards closer viewing. Dewey’s flaws and insecurities as well as the way he relates to his brothers is what really got me appreciating and loving him.

The triplets birth order now defined, this has a huge impact on their interactions. Dewey, as the middle child, struggles with his identity and place. He wants to stand out and make his mark, he doesn’t want to be grouped together with his brothers all the time. We see that right from the beginning, notably in this exchange with Scrooge:

D: "You want me to adventure behind Scrooge McDuck. Or wait by the sub. I might as well be back on the houseboat."

S: "Because you have no idea what you're doing."

D: "So show me, give me a chance instead of lumping us altogether in the backseat while you drive."

S: "I'm not lumping you altogether."

D: "Oh really? Which triplet am I?"

S: "…Bluey?"

In The Day Trip of Doom!, Dewey is the entire leader board for Uke or Puke, and he clearly enjoys the fact this basically makes him the best player in America (to the point of having a minor meltdown when Webby accidentally resets all the scores).

This need to be noticed and to stand out is also clear in Day of the Only Child! It’s him that instigates the day, who pushes it even though Huey is clearly very against it.

D: "Did you hear about this? I'm an only child today. It's going to be great - it's all about Dewey now."

And what he does with his day away from his siblings? He puts on a talk show with his “brothers”! And not only is it completely hilarious (seriously I’d watch actual episodes of it) but it’s a really cool insight into his perceptions of Huey and Louie and their relationships to him and each other.

What’s quite noticeable is the difference in how Dewey plays Huey and how he plays Louie. Let’s start with Huey.

We’ve already seen episodes where Huey and Dewey scrap. From minor arguments such as whose fault it was Donald caught them trying to take the house boat on a joy ride, to the full episode of duelling that was The Infernal Internship of Mark Beaks!, Huey and Dewey often butt beaks.

In the start of The Infernal Internship of Mark Beaks!, Dewey is offended when Huey suggests Dewey is not the "serious, brilliant, successful guy", describing him instead as “the crazy, irresponsible, fun guy”. Dewey immediately snaps back with a shot about how Huey just reads about other people doing stuff, and is clearly annoyed or upset that Huey doesn't think he could be successful.

As the episode plays out we see the responsible Huey trying to complete all the tasks on his checklist, and the “crazy, irresponsible, fun guy” kind of living up to Huey’s description of him. And though generally the actual workload is not really Dewey’s cup of tea (he’s definitely not into answering those phones for a start), Dewey really wants the internship. Just look at his face when Huey wins.

Why does he want this internship so badly? Well the reasoning he gives at first is basically around admiration for the way Beaks runs his company: the edible office furniture, the slides, the dance parties and everything else is very Dewey. Dewey, despite not really seeming that bothered about Mark Beaks when they first met, is now starting to look up to him:

D: “He talks the way I want to live!”

At the end of the episode, when both brothers are more disillusioned about Beaks, Dewey says this to Huey:

D: "Guys like him… guys like me… we have to put on a show and fake it because smart guys like you are so good at making it."

He then encourages Huey to come up with a plan.

From this episode we can see that Dewey has a little bit of a hang-up about how smart Huey is, even if he can be okay at encouraging Huey to use these talents. We can also infer that Dewey wants to prove he can do things, and do things just as well as the smart Huey.

All this plays into his portrayal of Huey. When he asks “Huey” for a plan (and doesn’t get one because “Huey” is just him) he responds with the following:

Dewey to Robot “Huey”: "Hey I don’t need you, I'm self-sufficient."

While playing Huey, Dewey not only mocks Huey’s smarts but also his social awareness: exaggerating Huey into an emotionless robot who has no idea about the proper social responses.

Dewey as Huey (in the robotic voice): “Appropriate response to introductory salutation. Let me check the Junior Woodchuck Guidebook. Hello Dewey, thanks for having me.”

This portrayal of Huey as socially inept just isn’t true, something I’ll look at more in analysing Huey. In fact, Huey seems to be very thoughtful of others and in particular he is often the one to comfort Louie, like in The Beagle Boy Birthday Massacre!

Dewey is getting in on the comforting too, but it is Huey that called Louie back over, Huey that Louie is clinging to. This post shows a scared Louie hiding behind Huey, something I didn't notice the first time around.

And this may be something that is noticeable to Dewey, and maybe even bothers him. To look more in depth at that, I’ll be looking at how Dewey plays Louie, in Part 2 of this accidentally really long character analysis.

Although, I did have a white rabbit candy-flavoured ice cream from Wong’s Ice Cream much more recently. It was really good!! And they have vegan and gluten-free flavours too!!

To Die For (The Birthday Massacre) - it’s cool but not in your face, great music when I’m drawing or writing. And the lyrics are very evocative, so if I happen to pause and actually pay attention to them, it’s fantastic mood and inspiration.

A memory from a trip I really enjoyed: Going to Tamsui/Danshui with my mom the first time I returned to Taiwan as an adult. It was just a really lovely day trip that started off with one of the best meals ever, and strolling down the Old Street and drawing the views of the river and people-watching and listening to the security guard telling stories and watching the sun set.

Dream job: I didn’t change (I MEAN, ADJUST) this question because it actually made me reflect quite a bit. I used to say something ridiculous here, like travelling Taiwan eating food while drawing Yu Yu Hakusho doujinshi, but to be honest I'm not entirely sure I would want that to be my job even jf it were possible. In all honesty I’d say my dream job is one where I...

Work with people I like.

Have positive engagement - interest, enjoyment, achievement - the majority of the time. (Because even things I love can still frustrate me to the extreme, like art.)

Have, and am encouraged to have, the energy, passion, flexibility and time to work on my personal projects - art, comics, fandom, etc.

In short, I'm incredibly fortunate and privileged to be able to say I have my dream job right now. Everyone is different, but I personally don't relish the idea of having my own creative projects tied to the pressure of making money or being judged by other people's values of what is worthwhile. And I don't know if I'd love doing it all the time. Burnout is very real, and working in an industry where I do work with other creatives, plus my own hobby, I know so many professionals who almost never have the time or energy for their own projects.

My thoughts and feelings on this matter may change, but as I’ve written on this topic before, I've felt this way since I first realized what it was that I actually love about the things I love when I was in high school. And for me, that answer wasn’t “do it on demand" nor “have my livelihood rely on it”.

Have you ever had a song or poem written about you?: Yes, I have written many dumb ones and a long time ago I even recorded some with a sped-up chipmunk voice as silly jokes. They’re like 10 seconds or something like that. And every so often, because I never bothered deleting the files, they come up on my music library shuffle while I am working and I’m like WTF WAS THAT???????

My friends have probably written about me too, usually in our random chat conversations lol.

Balloons squeaking against each other

Most high pitched scraping/squealing of objects against each other

Beijing opera vocals when I’m stuck in traffic and it’s hot so the window is down and the highest falsetto is blasting nonstop from a TV on the street right next to the car (I realize this this is very specific)

Wind chimes

Ordinary background hum/presence of people going about life in a familiar space (at home, in the city, on a subway train, in a cafe, etc.)

Benign rustling sounds (e.g., grass and leaves in the wind, paper, soft breaths/whispers)
