"And then—" Abby was holding a cardboard tube colored messily over your head, blessing you with the imaginary title of "Warrior queen of the Rabbit Kingdom." which held a decent ring to it. Trying hard to desperately not break out of character, you giggled and replied as seriously as you could: "Thank you for bestowing this honor on me, Queen Schmidt."

Abby giggled and cleared her throat, shaking in excitement. "Now, I give you the honor of my son. Prince—uhm, Schmidt." She shrugged at you with a smile, then shifted back into her Queen Schmidt personality. "So you can get married and live happily ever after," her eyes wandered around for a toy suitable to fit the role. You gazed around too, "Oh, no. Is your son, perhaps, missing?"

"I hope not." Abby said, "You'll see him." she scavenged around and you sat comfortably. Until you saw Mike walk into the room, fixing the color of his sweater, unknowing of the world he was about to accidentally walk into, "Hey Abs, have you seen my—" Mike halted. "What is happening?"

"Hey, you can be the prince." Abby said, "I think my crown can fix you."

Mike raised his hands defensively, "Oh, no. I'm not good at playing royalty." he shook his head. "Besides, I need to go shopping."

"When will you be back?" You asked in your normal tone of voice.

"Three," he said. "Three-ish?"

"Ah,"

"Mike, please." Abby begs, tugging her sluggish older brother by his sleeve as he stumbles hunched toward to level with her. Mike huffs, "Do I really need to be a prince? Why not a knight, or something cool?" he humors lightly. His eyes wash up at you, and he can't resist giggling at your costume made from scratch. It was impressive what Abby could make with her scrapes of material and tape. "No, she's the the knight." Abby pointed. Amused, you respond, "and a princess."

"And a princess." Abby adds, "And a witch!"

"Oh. So, I don't get any powers?" Mike says dryly, though there's a scrape of playfulness wrapped behind his blunt demeanour. He sat up and shut his eyes promptly for Abby to delicately place a cardboard mock crown on Mike's head. Abby smiled, before replying honestly, "That's because you're lame. Maybe next time you can be a princess, witch and knight."

"Goodie." Mike was obviously trying to drag a laugh out of you with his dramatic tone. You could see his eyes twinkled when it worked. There was a circle of stuffed animals and dolls, all clad in an organic costume made from Abby's workshop of a room.

"Okay, now we have a prince." She discarded the toy in her hand. "Now, you two can get married. And rule The Rabbit Kingdom."

"Married?" Mike knew it was pretend but his face flushed. "I didn't know that,"

"I am a princess, and you're the prince." You explained, almost toying with him. Mike chuckled, covering his face in light embarrassment.

"Yeah, Mike. Catch up." She cleared her throat. Mike was enjoying it much more than he thought he would. Maybe it was the idea of marrying you that sounded appealing, but that was ridiculous. He didn't love you. Did he?

Abby grabbed a floppy cat with buttoned eyes and calico patterns, making a deep voice. "I am the priest, and I say, that—we are gathered here today to see a prince and a princess get married. And, well . . ." She trailed off. "I don't know what a priest says, so. You're married!" She dropped the toy and tube together. Raising her hands out dramatically with a fun smile. "You can kiss now. Like couples do," she snickered.

You and Mike got close, giggling and awkwardly talking over each other as you tried to find a loophole. Mike swore his face was as hot as a furnace, and your stomach was twisted with butterflies caught in a trap. Abby broke the strange mental tango between you two, "You can hug if you want."

"Oh, right." You gazed at Abby, then back at Mike.

"Yeah, we can do that." He said. And so you did. Falling into a tight embrace for a couple seconds. Mike wanted to be longer, but he had errands. Plus, he doubt you'd stay long enough. Abby giggled, "You guys are husband and wife, now! Awesome." she looked around, eyes plotting something. She ran towards her room,"One second, I need to get something! Don't leave, Mike."

Yet, as soon as she disappeared. Mike stood up with a grunt, sighing. With a gentle smile, you gazed up at him. "Going so soon? We just got married."

"Very funny." Mike's cheeks flared as he removed the crown delicately and ran his fingers through his curls. He sighed and grabbed his wallet that was sitting longingly on the tabletop. "Tell her I got kidnapped by some monster or something, I'll think of a way to sneak in."

"Well, you got the right girl." You walked up to him, grabbing the door. "I am a warrior too."

"You're very in character." Mike hummed. "Is this going to be referenced often? Is it gonna be a thing?"

"Maybe, maybe not." You chuckled.

Once Mike had left his house. He felt an intense whirlwind of emotions. Romantic emotions. Loving feelings and sick stomach aches. Mike knew he wasn't a real prince, nor were you the ruler of some Bunny Palace but part of him was thinking of a life like that. Not with royalty or talking animals, but just you two. Married. The thought wasn't too strong, yet. But it kept him smiling when he was shopping. All the way through.

Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender: A show with its heart in the right place but questionable execution

[An objective spoiler review from a fan of the original Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series who watched the live-action adaptation pretending to not know a thing about the original show.]

Overview

Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender is a show with some heart. When there are highs, they are very high, but when there are lows they take away from the rest of the story. The visuals are overall stunning with an attention to detail. The set design in particular is done with love including incredible pieces, CGI design, and beautiful cultural references. The fighting is creative and fun to watch, though waterbending fights seem too slow. Surprisingly, the CGI animals work very well. A highlight is Momo who works in the same way Grogu from The Mandalorian works. However, the close-ups of calligraphy pieces should have warranted more research.

The costuming is detailed, but there are some instances when it would have been better to interpret certain characters more realistically rather than try to copy the original animated design.

The cast is not bad, especially considering the focus on younger, less experienced actors. Of the younger cast, Ian Ousley (Sokka), Dallas Liu (Zuko), and Maria Zhang (Suki) are the standouts. Gordon Cormier (Aang) also has good scenes but is not always consistent. The kid is cute and embodies Aang well. The most disappointing was Kiawentiio Tarbell (Katara) who I so desperately wanted to be good, but was either not given the direction needed, or was told to keep the same flat face.

The writing in the show could have been a lot stronger, and many actors suffered from poor writing choices including clunky lines. They acted their hearts out with these but suffered for them at the same time. The show overall felt like a first draft of something that could have been great but fell flat because of either outside sources or a lack of trust in the audience.

Episode 1: Aang - 7/10

This episode started out incredibly strong. Immediately, I was immersed in the world and intrigue. We had an earthbender running through the streets of the Fire Nation Capital City with an intercepted missive that Fire Lord Sozin would attack the Earth Kingdom. The action was very cool to watch and the earthbending stood out. When Sozin captured him and warned that this information was just a diversion and that he had his sights set higher, the tone was exciting and interesting.

Seeing the Air Nomads and what their life was like, then being introduced to the main character, Aang, was fun. I enjoyed seeing the interactions between Monk Gyatso and Aang. They felt like they had an incredible bond.

The violence starts soon after when Aang runs away during the Comet Festival and Sozin's plans are revealed when he uses its power to attack the temples and boy is it brutal to watch. This scene was tough, but in a way that made the audience really hope that the Fire Nation loses because what they did was so incredibly cruel that it can't be put into words.

Where this episode begins to fall off is when we hit the Water Tribe. The writing here becomes a bit clunky and stilted. Gran Gran in particular was a choice. By a choice, I mean that out of all the actors she was unfortunately the worst. Every line that came out of her mouth was grating and poorly delivered, which was sad because her scenes weren't written particularly badly.

Sokka is a stand-out as well as Zuko, though they gave Iroh a scene and lines with Aang that felt so out of place. It felt like a disservice to Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Iroh) who is an incredible actor to give him these awkward sentences to act around. Katara acts like (maybe?) she cares. It's hard to tell when she has no emotion and keeps telling me things that she supposedly cares about and I'm not seeing it.

Episode 2: Warriors - 7.5/10

It is here where things begin to pick up. I had a good time with this episode because to me it was so much fun, and it wasn't necessarily because of the main story going around. It was because the chemistry between Sokka and Suki was so unexpectedly good that I could not peel my eyes off the screen.

No seriously, it was fun. In just one episode, they made me believe that this was the couple for the show. Suki is portrayed as a silent, yet awkward warrior whom the village admires. She's blindsided by Sokka who is definitely not as good a warrior as she is, but is interesting for her to watch.

What's so refreshing about this take is that it's Suki who makes the first move and Sokka awkwardly flirts back with clearly no experience in talking to girls he's interested in. Suki starts peacocking for him! That's hilarious and endearing. We never see that in most media. It's usually the guy who does it, so him being the bumbling fool while Suki also flirts with absolutely no understanding of how to do it was a joy to watch.

Katara exists I guess? Aang's story with Kyoshi honestly was good enough for me to give it a pass, but they also gave Kyoshi so many long lines with nearly nothing to say. They could've cut her lines into a more condensed, stronger thing but instead left them long-winded. However, watching Kyoshi make a tornado of bodies is an experience I'll never forget. Continue what you're doing, fight choreography department.

Episode 3: Omashu - 6/10

This episode is fine. I enjoyed the beginning with Jet being revealed as the guy on the cart who lets the main characters into Omashu. However, the writing really starts falling off here. It starts to feel like they're cramming storylines into one episode.

The set design in Omashu in particular is incredible. I cannot emphasize how beautiful the markets were from the food stalls to the costuming. South and Southeast Asian foods, dried herbs and chilis, gold!!! Just watching the background was fun.

Katara's acting, however? Not fun. She's given so many good emotional beats here and does nothing with them. They keep showing me her flashbacks and I think seeing less of it would've made it more impactful. This is the episode when I realized that she is the most useless character in the trio. Does she need to be there? Does she do anything for the story? No. Sokka feels like the glue of the group while Katara merely causes problems. It doesn't help that everyone acts in circles around her. I wouldn't feel anything if they wrote her out.

Episode 4: Into the Dark - 1.5/10

I don't want to talk about this episode, but if I must, know this: It was awful. It was some of the worst written TV I've ever seen. They took the feeling of cramming too much in the previous episode and multiplied it by 100.

There were too many plot threads and not enough time to let any of them breathe. It felt like watching a show that didn't know what it was doing with itself and in the end, I still don't know what this episode accomplished other than making me frustrated as a viewer.

Sokka and Katara being in the Cave of Two Lovers was an...interesting choice. It looks very strange and borderline incestual considering the out-of-place story right beforehand about two lovers meeting up in the same cave Sokka and Katara had to venture through. The fact that Oma and Shu are both women was something I didn't even notice because of how terribly presented it was. It did not need to be there and was a disservice to the representation they wanted to include.

Sokka and Katara are siblings, so that was something. In fact, using that storyline at all felt so weird. They used it as an excuse to build their relationship when all I felt was confused about it.

Aang and Bumi could have been interesting if they executed it better. Instead, they TOLD me they were best friends and that Bumi went through a lot during the war and that Aang knew Bumi well. I needed to SEE it. (Show don't tell is a very real thing, and this episode is rife with crimes against the rule.) Instead they showed us a brief flashback that wasn't nearly enough. They had one strong plot point with Bumi making Aang the same bison whistle he had from the first episode to call Appa, but it didn't work because the rest of it was executed so badly.

This episode felt unnecessarily preachy and in a bad way. They kept telling us the war was bad, that Iroh hurt people, that Aang hurt people by leaving, yet they showed us none of it. This would've been a really impactful message otherwise, but all it gave me was a load of nothing dipped in nothing sauce.

I loved the orchestral rendition of Leaves From the Vine, but the lines were so long and awkwardly written during Lu Ten's funeral that if it weren't for the music, I would've felt nothing. From the perspective of a viewer who doesn't know anything about Avatar: The Last Airbender, I would still feel confused because it didn't fit with the convoluted tone of the episode in the first place. Why was this here? Why was any of this here?

From a fan and story perspective, we could've had a strong episode just combining The King of Omashu and Jet. Using Jet to try and assassinate King Bumi was such a good intrigue plot, but again the writing was terrible. We didn't also need The Northern Air Temple plot lines here. Danny Pudi deserves better than that.

Episode 5: Spirited Away - 7/10

I don't know if this episode was elevated because the previous episode was vomit level, but I really, genuinely enjoyed this one. After stepping back for a while, I've deduced that yes I liked this episode. This was also the one that I actually felt something emotionally.

I can tell why this one would be controversial from a fan perspective, but looking at it as a story that works within this universe and this version of Avatar: The Last Airbender, this really works. It finally felt like an adventure with stakes and characters I could feel for.

From a fan perspective, I enjoyed what this did with the Spirit World here, combining lore from different books in Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. It felt fun and creative and worked for me.

From a new viewer perspective, it was the first episode that ended that I actually said, "Wait no, it can't end there!" The visuals of the spirits were so fun, the flashbacks emotional. Katara acted finally! Plus, her younger child actress was phenomenal. Gran Gran was...hm. Sokka stood out immensely. He melted down and I really felt for him. Aang's meeting with Gyatso was gut-wrenching. I teared up.

It was here I discovered the show really shines when they're not trying to copy the original show, and when they try to do their own thing with lore that exists as long as it fits with what they're trying to tell. It works, and it's enjoyable, and gives characters more depth. The kicker? This episode was so strong in comparison because they did a lot of showing us things, not telling us. But it's not without its flaws. There was some weird dialogue here and there. Really, I enjoyed Sokka's and Aang's scenes the most.

June of course, was such a perfect casting choice, and her scenes with Zuko and Iroh were fun. Though once again, they wrote Iroh's lines in a way I don't understand. Why make him this one-note wise man? Sometimes less is more.

Episode 6: Masks - 8/10

This is hands down the best episode of this show. I hardly have any complaints about it. Even Iroh's wisdom lines were doable. Zhao was such a fun ride. They made him this whiny officer with too much to prove and a cocky attitude, and I enjoyed every minute of it. He's like a grown man who is a child, but it works. Oh goodness it works. Give me more of him nitpicking the heck out of the way his speech is written. It was such a refreshing take on a villain.

The rest of the episode? BRILLIANT. Absolutely. Zuko as the Blue Spirit will never get old, but the live action presentation was so good I have no complaints about it at all. The fighting and choreography really worked, and boy was it a fun thing to watch come to life. I don't normally love when things are copied one-to-one from animated shows to live action because it doesn't always work, but this was one of those instances that I'm glad it did work. It was iconic of them to bring back the bamboo pole fight and what's crazy is that it ended up being some of the coolest fight choreography I've seen. They must've had a blast with it!

Zuko and Aang were so good in this. They have a lot of chemistry as actors, and I could believe they want to be friends but circumstances don't allow them. It makes their extended interaction trapped together and hiding from the Fire Nation in a shack that much more impactful. Adding in the fact that Aang stole Zuko's Avatar journal paid off from episode 1 because now they talked about it, bonded over calligraphy and brushes, and I wanted them to be friends with all my heart. Their inevitable separation hurt me.

But oh no, you thought that was all? They made Zuko's backstory better. They showed us more of the scene where Zuko speaks against his father, and it's actually worse than the original show. Worse, as in better story-wise but worse for Zuko. Ozai asks for Zuko's opinion in the war room, Zuko gives it, Ozai disapproves. Then, when the plan is made to sacrifice the 41st Division, Zuko speaks out and says it's a terrible plan.

I could unpack that scene forever. This makes Ozai seem more manipulative, and I love it. He tests Zuko, disapproves, yet punishes him for saying his opinion later when Ozai had asked him before.

They show us the Agni Kai. I enjoyed the choreography. It helps that Daniel Dae Kim (Ozai) is a sight to behold. His cloak was a good choice, and I'll leave it at that. He is also a perfect Ozai. He has the aura of a man who doesn't play around, and he is menacing. It's also his line delivery and voice.

But the thing that I could also obsess about forever? The fact that Ozai punished Zuko not just by banishing him, but by making his crew the same 41st Division he saved. Zuko and Iroh never told them either, not until Iroh decided he should by the end.

So when Zuko comes back injured from freeing the Avatar, it is a great earned scene when his crew bows to him and calls him their prince.

Episode 7: The North - 5/10

After the previous episode, this was such a let down. Not much stood out here, but the Northern Water Tribe was a great set design. I loved looking it at. Unexpectedly, Kuruk was in this, but it worked so well. So unbelievably well.

From a fan perspective, I've always loved Kuruk and when his backstory was revealed in the Kyoshi novels I felt validated. He has a tragic and interesting back story, and they delivered here. Meegwun Fairbrother (Kuruk) has such a commanding presence. I cannot state this enough. He is the Avatar. He is Kuruk. I genuinely want more of him and I want to know more about him. I wouldn't mind if there was a whole live action show about Kuruk with him as the star.

The rest of this episode though? I mean. It was fine I guess? It wasn't episode 4 level of terrible, and definitely had more that elevated it, but the writing started downgrading immensely from here. Also, Yue, girl, what was that wig? And it's so obviously a wig that it was distracting. Why?

Katara felt like she should've had a presence here but she barely did. She had a fight with Master Pakku that felt unearned. It was also the first fight I've seen in this show that I didn't enjoy watching. The choreography wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. It was also slow-paced for some reason. It was like I watched two people decide they need to make a move with each move. Everything Katara did felt unearned this episode.

Episode 8: Legends - 2.5/10

Why. What was this finale and why was this the finale? Ignoring the fact the Yue is apparently a spirit trekking lady which could've been cool if they executed it better, this was a whole mess. I'm going to ignore this plot because apparently she was the three-tailed fox in episode 5, and I like episode 5 and don't want to bring that one down so I'll pretend this doesn't exist.

I wouldn't mind if this was the route they went with Yue, but it was so rushed. Her being a waterbender was new, but I also didn't mind it. It was just...shallow. Seeing Yue's romance with Sokka after Suki left a sour taste in my mouth because it was badly done. The actors had no chemistry, and Sokka seemed like a playboy.

The writing was so terrible. Everything was mashed together last minute, Kuruk was there for a cool second, and then my expectations fell past the floor of an outhouse.

Momo, the cute CGI animal, died for some reason saving a person from a falling ice block. Then Yue had to go revive him for some reason. My first reaction was "NO!! MOMO!" Then it was confusion, and then I started laughing because none of it felt right and none of it felt earned, and I was laughing so hard I started crying.

I forgot Aang never started waterbending.

Oh yeah, Katara called herself a master I guess? I don't know how that happened because she's been crap the whole season and never got Pakku to teach her, so I guess she's self-taught now and proved herself by fighting Pakku and convincing him to let the women fight even though they showed no indication of wanting to...so yay feminism? Katara has only been looking at a scroll and failing badly the whole season and learned from no master so I don't know where she got this "master" idea from.

What saved this episode from being episode 4 was that the fight choreography was the coolest I've seen. As a fan, I was scared about how they were going to interpret the black-and-white lunar eclipse scenes but they delivered well! The blasts, the bursts of fire and color, holy heck it worked so incredibly well. I was impressed. Genuinely. I loved watching all those scenes. The Fire Nation blasting through the walls was so cool.

Oh yeah I guess Aang not learning waterbending explains why him being a giant Ocean Spirit fish didn't allow him to waterbend the waves to beat the Fire Nation, but instead he crashed into them.

Katara, Sokka, and Aang were finally together most of the time. I still hardly know anything about them though. Are they friends?

The ending scene with Zuko and Iroh was heartfelt, but could've been stronger. Azula took over Omashu I guess? Sozin's Comet is coming "soon" I guess? None of it felt earned.

Final thoughts

Honestly, if this show ended on episode 6 maybe I'd want a season 2, but after that I don't feel any interest in seeing this iteration of the show. Half of it doesn't work and the writing is questionable. If I were a new fan, I don't think I'd like it just from the weird writing alone. I'd stop after episode 4.

I genuinely wish the cast and crew well, and I love many of them from previous works, but they do not need to be in more of this. They deserve better projects.

It was telling that once I finished the series and saw who wrote what, the original creators were the ones who had a hand in writing episodes 1 and 6, which are episodes on the stronger side. Especially 6, which is the best one. If anyone tells me that I am crazy to be skeptical over an adaptation of any kind without the original creator(s) involved, I'll point to this fact.

My advice? Watch Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko's original Nickelodeon series, Avatar: The Last Airbender which you can also stream on Netflix.

Oh, my baby is at the bridge. She is so happy! I was so happy too when I first watched this scene. If only I knew

Look how happy he is too! He is finally smiling naturally. So excited that he will meet Xiao Lanhua at the bridge

But I have to pause and admire DFQC’s costume and the light. He looks majestic and there has never been a scene where he looks more a King than this one – I think

For a moment there I thought he was going to burn them all and I got excited. But he just used like one of the last three remaining blasts of hellfire to half destroy a pillar

I had not prepared any tissues – I am keeping them for ep. 31 – but I feel like I will need them. Damn, it's so much harder to watch this scene for the second time. I don’t want anyone hurting them, I can’t!

And they keep on hitting the spike over and over and over again. *trying not to cry*

Xiao Lanhua is all like I don’t care about the treasures and stuff, but look, I made you this grass bracelet, will you marry me? She always has a way to subvert his expectations, right?

Oh come on, Xunfeng, let them kiss! I wanted to end this part on a good note, but you just had to show up like a fart during a date

Varian and the Seven Kingdoms Consolidation of Info

This is going to be a consolidation of all the official Vat7K stuff I have on my blog, including copy/pasting of posts Kay Ritter and Anna Lencioni have posted, and to a lesser extent, things I’ve posted with insider knowledge I had before Kay ever released their notes. Alexa Bosy was also involved in the project.*

*Please note that all these asks were sent when Kay was still going by Kait and was still using she/her pronouns. I have edited to reflect their preferred name and pronouns when referencing them, but did not edit the content of the original asks.

These are some of the character page descriptions we gave when we presented “Varian and the Seven Kingdoms!” I had to shut of my asks because I’m just getting slammed every day, so I’m sorry if I don’t get back to any of you!! I appreciate all the enthusiasm, though! ; - ; Please enjoy and keep creating!!! (Also enjoy some Anna sketches- she designed Varian’s cousins and they’re dang cute!)

The Design

Via Kay: Some character design/ costume concept art for a fan project me and Anna dreamed up. It was a little spinoff comic about Varian continuing his adventures in alchemy through the seven kingdoms in order to learn the seven alchemical laws and attain forbidden knowledges. New characters we wanted to play with were Varian’s mom, who design-wise was a in flux, since we only had one reference image to go off of…but we really wanted to match her aesthetic to Varian/ that of a field researcher. We always imagined her as being a lot like Varian! Tried to develop some motifs between the other characters (L-R: Hugo, Donella, and Donella’s muscle-man) to make them look like the evil pack they were. Hugo was a sneaky artificer who conned the wealthy and worked for Donella: Varian’s mother’s former research partner. We also had Yong and Princess Nuru- who were some new friends that Varian would meet on his journey! And of course, Prometheus, a farm donkey Quirin gifted to Varian before he left Corona. (Not quite a Maximus…but, hey!)

Via Kay: Here are some old beat boards Anna and I did when we were making this fan-baby!

The first few explored Varian meeting Yong and making his first friend, completing the first trial of the seven kingdoms. In the nighttime one- Anna had a cool idea that Princess Nuru’s dress was an active star chart and that she could act as the group navigator, using it to guide them. The last few were just some group interactions and Varian coming face to face with his mother.The super short story is: we imagined each of the seven kingdoms would teach one of the seven alchemical stages of transformation and reveal a totem. With all seven totems acquired, Varian would be able to use them to reunite with his long-lost mother (we’d called her Ulla) who was trapped somewhere unreachable by her former partner, Donella, long ago. Donella was after the totems as well to prevent Ulla’s release and sent Hugo to collect them as a double-agent within the group. Hugo would later betray Donella in service of helping Varian reach Ulla. We viewed Hugo and Varian’s relationship evolving from a sort of Pinocchio/ Lampwick situation (literally what that drawing is from) to that of an equal one. In a way, their bond repaired the partnership that frayed between Ulla and Donella.

Anon Ask: Kait! Appreciate the infodump (I'm the currently-Tumblr-less user w the bombardment of Q's earlier) & I'm stoked that you've given us your blessing to use the concept!:P Got more random Q’s, if you’re up for it! Was the comic outfit Varian’s final, or the other designs would’ve been used too (same w Ulla’s 2 designs)? 7 trials ideas, & 7 kingdoms’ names? How much time after TTS would this be? & finally, was Varian planning on actually RIDING that donkey, or would he pull a caravan(?)thing?xD -GC

Kay’s Answer: The outfits were still in flux- the comic was a representation of our first draft and the other designs came later (including Hugo’s upgrade, Donella, etc.) The red dress Ulla was a flashback type of look whereas the teal one is more like…how Varian would have found her. You know I actually found some screenshots of the ol’ docs we wrote using the 7 alchemical stages to mirror the seven kingdoms. We tried to find an alchemical story component, a magical story component, and a figurative/character story component for each! We never actually named the kingdoms and we also crafted a lot of them before they existed canonically in the show (I think there’s an episode of RTA where Raps competes against princesses from the seven kingdoms and they’re mentioned there)…so just know it’s not accurate to that at all, haha.

But here! These are very note-to-self format…so…apologies lol...

Questions and Answers

Anon Ask: Hello Kait! I would like to know more about Hugo’s past. Your friend mentioned that Hugo is an orphan. Where did Hugo grow up? So, where will he go after betraying Donella?  Does he have a permanent place of residence? 

Kay’s Answer: I’m trying to recall what Anna said, but he definitely grew up an orphan. From what I can remember, the kingdom he grew up in had a very highly divided class system and Hugo was determined to find a way not to live on scraps. And not just that, but to like…get back at, take advantage of as many rich idiots as possible. He’s Robin Hood robbing the rich to feed himself. Someone here called him a champagne-taste kind of guy and that’s exactly right.

He’s manipulative, so he’s probably well ahead of developing technologies and other things for the rich people who invest in him. He’d probably just withhold the best stuff for himself and do what he needed to stay in his patrons’ good graces. And he’d steal whatever they didn’t give him and never get caught.  (I think Anna designed like a motorized bike or something for him once…he’s literally the cool guy with a car. He’d totally keep something like that all for himself.)

Donella and her gang offered protection more than anything…so he offers most of his work to her first. Including his sneakier services. That’s how he ends up being the one to go after Varian. It’s probably also how (in our wildest dreams) we imagined him possibly having pulled a job (and likely conned) Eugene back in his Rider days. Pulled a Rider on a Rider as a sneaky kid.

All of this is also why he’d switch alliances on Donella when it felt right to do so. Hugo has a wild compass but he follows it in service of himself pretty much always. Becoming close to Varian kinda changes that streak in him. He’d probably hang out with Varian whenever everything blew over, maybe settle back down in Corona. Meet this princess everyone keeps talking about. Wait…Rider lives in a CASTLE NOW?!

Anon Ask: Kait! Varian and the seven kingdoms is giving me so much life during quarantine bless your heart for all this :’) I have a question, what kind of life did our sweet boy Yong live? Was he an orphan too? Or did Varian promise his parents/guardian he’d take care of him? After they finish their adventure does Varian take Yong under his wing so he stops blowing stuff up and causing fires? 

Kay’s Answer: I love Yong, I think everyone loves Yong, I think Yong’s parents and family (which I always imagined as being very big) all love Yong. But I think they are all very tired and very grateful that he has made a friend who is willing to take him on as a mentee. I imagine he’s gone through a few. (Very Young Hercules lol.)

Anon Ask: This is a question on the 7 kingdoms au thing. When Ulla was researching in the Dark Kingdom, was this before or after it was abandoned? It was likely before it was abandoned but I'm just not sure. Also, this is probably more of a question for Kritterart, but since she made that post about getting too many asks I decided to ask that question to you. 😅 

My Answer: Yeah, I have absolutely no idea how to answer that. Seeing as how the Dark Kingdom was on the seven kingdoms list in the comic, I have to guess that they hadn’t yet developed in the series that the kingdom had been abandoned, but that’s just my guess. 

Kay’s Reply: (We were thinking it was before…and also where she met Quirin, fell in love with him! Just before they moved to Corona- the place where the final trial/totem were. She paused her research to have a family, that bummed Donella out, Quirin let her go after Varian was born, and she never came back.)

Anon Ask:  If VAT7K ever became canon, would Varian and Hugo been an actual couple? Making Varian bi? 

My Answer: Yes.

Okay, I don’t know for a fact that they’d have been a couple or endgame, however, I was talking to Kait about it a long time ago and she told me that Vat7K would confirm that Varian is bi (and she was referring to Hugo).

I’m getting way more 7K questions than I have time or any real authority to answer considering there is no ACTUAL CONTENT to reference lol, but I just wanna let you guys know how much I appreciate them all! I’m sorry if I don’t answer your question. I also just don’t want my art tumblr to turn into a huge Q&A, haha.We’ve been loving all the fanart and support and curiosity. It’s amazing! That said- 7K and its dealings, characters are NOT CANON. So if it’s not for you, that’s so totally okay. You’re super valid. We made it for you guys, but it’s yours to take what you like from it and change what you don’t when you use it (or don’t) to tell your own story! Okay so here are some more Disney Mirrorverse characters

Anger they didn't really change at all. They just made him slightly volcanic. He also has a sword (not pictured here).

Baloo basically looks like he walked out of a weird Furry version of Mad Max.

Baymax looks weird, it looks like they tried to integrate his power armor into his design. Not really a fan.

I like how they didn't really change Buzz's design. They just gave him a bigger gun.

Man if looks could kill Donald would already be in prison. I do like they made the effort to distinguish him from the KH version. The energy anchor is a nice touch too.

Again reminds me of Elsa's design. Its the same dress as the canon version, just designed for more maneuverability. And with big stupid WOW shoulderpads too. Also I guess she's just lobbing the poison apples at people now.

Yeah, remember Frank Wolff? Dwayne the Rock Johnson's character from the hit Disney Movie Jungle Cruise? Yeah no I don't either. Look, the movie had came out, they needed to promote it. Have Dwayne The Rock Johnson with a Swamp Thing arm.

This one is alright, feels like if they were making the edgy Pre MCU Frozone movie this is what he would look like.

Alright real big fan of this one. This looks like the Genie like a thousand years post Aladdin where he's become a powerful Genie lord and rules over his own kingdom and stuff. Just love the design here.

Pretty cute design, but I get the feeling Minnie isn't fully aware she's about to be going to war.

This is a nice design, its simple, and it builds subtly off Moana's normal look.

Why are his hands glowing? What does that add?

OH GOD THEY PUT OLAF IN A LITTLE CAPE I CAN'T. Why is he even here? Olaf cannot face the horrors of war. He looks so determined too like that face says "I'm about to kick some ass today!"

Okay the jacket is a bit much, but I am kind of digging the roulette wheel shield and the dice flail.

Again have note seen Raya, but this seems alright. Probably should make time for some of these newer Disney films, especially since I want to show support during the whole DeSantis....thing.

Really like this one, especially the sewing needle weapons.

DuckTales (2017) Discussion Time!

Let’s say one day Disney decided “Hey we should make a video game based off the 2017 reboot of DuckTales!” What type of video game would YOU want that DuckTales video game to be?

Feel free to be in-depth as you want! Or if you want answer along the lines of “Mario Kart but with ducks” that’s also acceptable! Feel free to respond or reblog with your own answers!

Game Idea 1: Platformer

Well I’m sure all the older fans of DuckTales or anyone who is familiar with retro gaming should already know that the ducks have had plenty of adventures in gaming: Including two NES platformers based of the OG DuckTales as well as a remastered version of the first game!

Fun Fact! The remastered version is where the Gyro’s black licorice oxychew came from!

So I wouldn’t mind if we got a platformer starring the modern cast! Personally I’d love to play more than just Scrooge. The playable characters in my mind would be the main five: Scrooge, Webby, Huey, Dewey, and Louie. Oh and instead of a 2D platformer, I think this should be a 3D platformer

Donald has been in one of those before!

Like the NES game there will be different levels and you can select which one you want to go first! The world’s would be pretty big with certain areas only accessible to certain characters through their own respected skills

Game Idea 2: Fighting Game

DuckTales (2017) has the perfect cast of characters for a fighting game! They’re all adventurers that know how to fight! And they have their own distinct costumes, personalities, and fighting styles! Also can you imagine the different fighting stages?! That casino Gladstone got stuck in, Gyro’s lab, Darkwing’s lair, the Cloudslayer/Sunchaser (both the garage and on the plane), the dream world(s), the list goes on! Also Bradford in that armor from the finale in front of the The Solego Vortex would make for a GREAT final boss stage

Also besides the heroes I want the villains to be playable characters, this roster would be stacked! Also characters like Fenton and Drake can switch between their regular identities and their superhero identity

But most importantly, I want more character interactions! One thing I love in modern fighting games is their character specific dialogue between two fighters! It’s always fun and the characters from DuckTales would be perfect for that!

Yo Disney! If you need someone to come up with ideas for that, I’m your guy! I’m already coming up with some in my head

You know what? I want Huey, Dewey, and Louie as a team to count as one playable character kinda like how the Turtles are in Injustice. Same with May and June

Game Idea 3: RPG

I admit I ain’t the biggest RPG guy, the ones I really played through are stuff like the Mario themed ones, Pokémon, and Kingdom Hearts but I really think the DuckTales world would be perfect for this kind of game

I actually talked about this idea with @tokuvivor awhile back. We kinda imagined a turn based RPG with timed hits and party members like you’d see in Super Mario RPG and the early Paper Mario games (also Mario & Luigi but just for timed hits)

Since DuckTales has such a huge cast we thought it’d be fun if in the game you could meet different characters throughout the game and have them join your party. We were thinking about having 3-5 members for the player’s party and the only requirement would be one of the main characters (one of the triplets, Webby, or Scrooge) has to be in that group at all times. Kinda like the Mario ones require Mario to always be present in the team

Like I said about the fighting game, DuckTales has such a wide range of characters with their own unique skills, I think it’d be cool building your team to your liking

Game Idea 4: Mario Kart but with Ducks

Okay. Now I know that there have been a lot of Disney racing games some of which have featured some of these characters already. But come on, a Mario Kart type game in the DuckTales world would be so cool!!

Imagining driving around Scrooge’s Mansion in a go-kart! He’d be pissed but it’d be cool! Or in the streets of St. Canard! Or any of the places where the family has adventured!

But what would be REALLY cool is if Funso’s Fun Zone was a track! Just imagine this! You drive around Funso’s then all of sudden you find path leading down to F.O.WL.’s Lair!! That’d be so cool!

Spider Knight 2: Birds problems

Jaune would be in the library reading comics until nora sat next to him with some books but instead of reading she approached him and he would have an expression of confusion and curiosity and looked at nora.

Nora: You can spit venom or control an army of spiders?

Jaune: Nope

Nora: Do you create web from your body or not?

Jaune: My webs are stored in my launchers.

Nora: How did you get your powers?

Jaune: Well it was we were in the emerald forest and pyrrha still hadn't unlocked my aura. I was walking in the forest until a strange spider bit me and after I fell asleep I woke up strange and all sweaty and when I went to the bathroom I noticed that my hand had stuck to the doorknob then I was just trained and making my costume.

Nora: That so cool!!!

Jaune and nora would be chatting waiting for their training members to finish their classes. In a laboratory of altas that would have in vale, a discussion between a scientist and some of the employees of the schnee company would be going on.

???: Why are you cutting my research budget?!

???: Well mr schnne doesn't see any further interest in your useless research but as you should have read in the contract we are going to continue with your technology and we will use it in our own way.

The guards would grab the scientist and take him out of the lab and he would have a hateful expression on his face as he glared at the schnee worker. Team rwby and jnpr were sitting in the classroom waiting for glynda but ozpin would enter the room holding his cane and a cup of coffee and he would look at both teams.

Ozpin: So class today we are going to make an excursion to the city of altas to visit one of the altas laboratories that are here in the city to show that there is peace between the kingdoms.

Both teams are happy with the news and get ready and go to the laboratory and inside they could see all kinds of machines being made like something that would be ''robot tentacles'' and some kind of strange glider.

Tyler: Hello beacon students I take a tour here at the schnee labs and I see that there is a very important person, isn't it really miss schnee.

Weiss would have an irritated and tired expression and would speak in a sarcastic tone.

Weiss: Yes I get really excited to be in one of the altas labs and it's like I'm home again...

Tyler was listening to that with a proud expression on his face and was walking ahead but team rwby and jnpr were comforting weiss and letting out a few laughs because of the way she commented about the lab.

Ruby: Guys this place is so cool look how many weapons here and also while they are being made!

Jaune: Ruby I don't think what they're doing they're weapons like look at those robotic tentacles that's probably supposed to be used for mining or something.

Jaune felt a shiver and would look around until a figure wearing armor resembling that of a vulture would enter the building breaking the window and look at everyone and give note an expression of hate on the face of the figure.

Tyler: Adrian is that you? Why are you using our armor it's still in beta..

Adrian(vulture): Your armor? You mean my armor that I spent my life building!

Tyler: You should have read the contract right your technology and our andrian and you can't do anything about it--

Vulture would release a sonic scream that would break all the windows and that would push tyler against the wall breaking his aura both teams rwby and jnpr had covered their ears to avoid the sonic scream and each one would pull his weapon to fight abute but jaune would say he was going to look for it if there were any civilians in the place and he would walk away from the group going to a hidden corner and put on his costume.

Yang: Sorry vulture but that guy is not a carcass for you to catch.

Vulture would look at team rwby and jnpr and let out another sonic scream everyone lean on something to not be thrown because of the wave of sounds everyone would be fine except blake would be suffering from a headache due to the fact that his faun ears and abute was carrying another scream until spider knight appears and throws his web in the ururbu's mouth.

Spider Knight: Hey man, be careful with your tone of voice, maybe you can make someone deaf with those thin screams.

Vulture: You hunters are just being a thorn in my side for my revenge!

He would go up to spider knight who dodged and would kick the vulture in the back making him go against a pillar breaking it and he would go to team rwby and (j)npr helping them to get up.

Pyrrha: Thanks for the help Spider Knight but I believe we can fight ''the vulture''.

Spider Knight: It's a good idea but I recommend six to take your friend outside she doesn't look very well.

Yang and weiss help blake to get up and leave the place leaving only spider knight, nora, ren, pyrrha and ruby ​​to fight against vulture who would start shooting debris at them that ruby ​​and pyrrha and nora managed to destroy with their weapons and jaune and ren dodged with his agility. Vulture with hate in his eyes would catch Tyler with his mechanical paws and leave through the same ceiling breaking but spider knight would hit a web on one of his legs and it was taking it and the 3 left flying between the city buildings.

Spider Knight: Man I know you're a vulture but there's so much carcass out there that's better than this guy.

Vulture: So why are you defending this piece of garbage?

Spider Knight: Because I know revenge is never a good answer!

Spider knight would use his webs to grab the wrist and climb onto Vulture's back making him let go of Tyler but Jaune threw a large web in the middle of two buildings and saved him.

Spider Knight: Wow I like your toy my mother never lets me play with other people's toys she always says I break them.

Vulture: Wait what are you doing?!

Spider knight punched the backpack of the flying suit and pulled the motherboard that would make the suit stop working and vulture would start screaming in fear but spider knight wrapped it in web and placed it under a pole.

Spider Knight: Now be a good vulture and tell the police everything you did wrong.

Spider knight heard approaching sirens so he would leave there and go back to the laboratory and see his friends outside so he would go to an alley and change clothes if he ran into them.

Jaune: Hey guys sorry for not telling you but when that guy dressed as a vulture showed up I ran to the police station to call the police sorry.

Ruby: It's okay Jaune! we got to see spider knight in person!

Ren: He fought very well, I think the news talking bad about him are just fake news.

Yang: He has an amazing sense of humor haha.

Weiss: He just makes dad jokes thats why you like it?

Both teams would laugh together at weiss' comment and head back to beacon. In the tower of ozpin he was messing with his scroll and was watching a video recorded by the laboratory's security camera watching the fight against the vulture and he would have an expression of curiosity about who ''Spider Knight'' was.

Okay well I watched the first episode of Blood Origin and honestly my thoughts are:

I just don't understand why people are so resistant to changes/new plotlines/some lore breaking of *recent* franchises but gobble it up when it's older. People telling an untold portion of a common tale is well established in storytelling culture. The first example that springs to mind is Lancelot, who straight up does not exist in original Authorian legend and was a FRENCH invention when the myth spread. Nowadays, most casual enjoyers of King Author stuff don't bat an eye to Lancelot's presence. Lancelot, who comes to mind, because Sapkowski writes said Lancelot to be in love with Ciri, and we're totally cool with *that* but not with changes to Sapkowski's work.

It's really telling that there's such a bigoted negative reaction to this because honestly? The black people so far have been BLACK black, darker than me, darker than even my black family sometimes. I'm enjoying seeing melanin in fantasy don't mind me. And the hair on the sisters is excellent, I'm liking the costuming, and I *really* like Eile.

The accents are kind of all over the place. Both as individual characters but also as the actors themselves. Sometimes Fjall goes from generic American accent to some form of fake Irish to ????european???? and back and it's distracting and weird. HOWEVER I do like the Irish and Welsh accents in high born kingdoms, because too often those accents are for commoners and poverty only, and this sort of turns the trope on its head.

I'm not sure how much I like the pan-Asian vibe I'm getting from some of the props and architecture. Some things look vaguely Chinese while others solidly Arabic while others a weird fusion of Indian and Korean and it's just odd to me. At first I thought it was because of clan structures but then I saw that it's just sort of everywhere. I have 0% Asian in me so I'm not really a good authority to speak on it but it's a weird vibe, a little Orientalist to my eyes. I'll freely admit that I like the aesthetic since I was raised pretty pan-African but I recognize that most continentally grouped cultures don't love that and it's mainly the black diaspora that's embraced it because we don't really have much of a choice.

I STILL feel that doing away with this short-season "but the episodes are an hour long!" nonsense would help pacing so much. Literally every time I thought the episode was going to come to an end, it's been roughly at the 20-25 min mark, which a standard TV episode would have been ANYWAY. So there's not really much point to having this be 4 hour-long episodes when it could be done better as 12-15 20 minute episodes... which would be the eqivilant of a short season while 24-32 is a more "standard" season (instead of 8 hour-long episodes). It gives you more time to flesh the characters and plotlines out while also allowing you the chance to trim some of the long-and-boring content people get tired of watching.

I really do feel bitter that the witcher tags continue to be people making racist and misogynistic memes instead of a fandom happily discussing a pretty strong first episode that introduced a billion fantasy characters of color. It really sucks that black people in fantasy is received so poorly when my inner 10 year old is happy to see people who look more like me having fun with the genre. I long for the day when I can exist in a fandom space and happily discuss my favorite black characters without having to justify their existence every 2 seconds.

Oof that CGI is pretty rough though. Which surprises me because the S2 CGI was not this rough so idk what happened here. That monster in the first episode is, uh, bad. And the background in the weird magicky place is also pretty, uh, bad.

I don't understand why the first witcher being an elf would piss Geralt off except maybe because that means Jaskier knows more about witchers than Geralt does? All of Geralt's iterations- the books, the games, the show, the comics- are pretty chill with elves as long as they're pretty chill with him. He only pursues certain elves and elf-blooded mixed race people when they pose a direct threat to him or his loved ones. Same as humans. So I don't really get that line at all unless, as said, it was more a "wow Geralt's gunna be pissed that I know this story and he doesn't"

Tavros Nitram vs Taylor Hebert needs to be a Death Battle: A Thread

Thematic Connections:

Two teenagers with the power to telepathically control animals who lives were radically changed by one particular case of abuse and bullying gone to far. (Vriska breaking Tavros's legs for Tav, and the locker incident causing Taylor's trigger event for Taylor)

Said torment continues for a large chunk of their adolescent lives, with both characters receiving little respite and few supporters (aside from their dads, who are powerless to help)

While both characters started out as heroic and optimistic, both wind up falling from grace as a result of their culminated trauma. (Taylor slowly becoming a supervillain as the story progresses and Tavros developing Stockholm Syndrom for Vriska).

Both characters wind up leading an army to combat a god in the face of the end of the world. (Tavros forming an army that dwarfs Vriska's to fight Lord English and Taylor controlling an army of capes to battle Scion)

Debatability

This is suprisingly very debatable. Assuming it's the base forms for both, then Tavros should outstat considerably (him surviving his trip to Alternia on the back of a falling meteor is far more physically impressive than anything Taylor herself has done and scaling off the other trolls, he should be slightly faster too) and his animal telepathy should be generally better (both because it can control all members of the animal kingdom and because it has the range to control beings in other universes)

However, Taylor is considerably smarter and more tactical, so she should be smart enough to plan around these disadvantages. (Durability doesn't help if you're choking on poisonous bugs) Furthermore, her powers can control more bugs at a time than Tavros can, so even if Tav turns some of her bugs against her, she'd still have some on her side to defend herself with.

Ultimately, I'd probably give this to Tavros? None of his advantages are insurmountable on their own (the flying wheelchair can be dealt with by gunking up its components. Tav's wider variety of animals can be matched by her usual tactics when fighting stronger opponents, allowing her to take out bears and the like by poisoning them with her insects and other such tactics.) but the fact that they all stack on top of each other makes this a rough time for Skitter. It's hard to pin down a faster, flying opponent that you can't directly hurt when you have to deal with bears, wolves, and bits of your own swarm at the same time. Doubly so when considering that Tav's absurd telepathic range would let him utilize any animal in the city when convenient, giving Skitter little place to hide or plan. That said, Taylor tends to work best in unwinnable circumstances.

The verdict changes wildly depending on what you give them. If both sides have absolutely everything, then Gcatavrosprite thinks her out of existence before she can think to ready the Interdimensional Ram, but Khepri vs base Tavros is just as big a stomp. Base to base is probably the most debatable version this fight.

Interactions:

Given how connected Taylor is to most of her bugs, I do kinda wonder if Tavros attempting to control them would allow the two to banter? It could create an interesting dynamic, especially given the whole "sorry I have to do this" attitude that both would be carrying throughout.

I feel like this fight should probably be set at a zoo, as it plays naturally into their powers and could set up some cool exchanges.

The fight should start either because Tav got caught up in some of Taylor's villainous antics or because of some kind of misunderstanding. Taylor's already been mistaken for a villain while acting as a hero before, thanks to her powers and costume, and Tavros is a vaguely demonic humanoid with sharp teeth and giant horns, so a misunderstanding wouldn't be too difficult to set up if done right. It should probably be the latter, because the former would raise the question of why the Undersiders or Taylor's followers don't step in to help.

Now if this were to actually be a Death Battle, we'd have to somehow contrive a way for these characters to kill each other. Because simply put, they probably wouldn't in most circumstances. While Taylor is ruthless, she's very rarely willing to commit outright murder outside of very extreme circumstances and Tavros is even less willing. You could make the kill accidental, but that runs the risk of feeling pretty insulting to the loser. Death Battle kinda has this issue a lot.

I kinda like the idea that both characters would get more and more ruthless as the fight escalates, before immediately feeling remorseful and horrified when the kill actually happens. It'd be a good way to reflect their in story character development.

So, yeah, expect to see this as an FTF eventually.

I've always wondered where the soul jams came from. And in one of my theories I wrote about how soul jams could be created by dragons. And if this is true, then I would ever want to draw how the dragons with soul jams that the ancients now wear would look like. So how did the ancients get these soul jams? Let's say what happened in Dark Cacao’s kingdom before he arrived and became king. It would be logical that he received the stone for the fact that he defeated White and Black dragons. But how exactly did Dark Cacao get the soul jam? Did he find it or did he get it from someone as a reward for saving the kingdom? One would think that the first option would be more suitable, but the second option looks interesting 🤔 . And then I remembered my post about the similarity of the Dark Cacao’ soul jam and the purple stone that Licorice wears in his Aberrant Conjurer costume. What if he has some connection to Dark Cacao’s soul jam? We have not yet seen what the cookies from his village look like. I have a crazy theory.. What if the previous bearer of the soul jam was someone from the licorice village. And it was a dragon. It makes some sense. Because then where did this sea with monsters come from? And now remember who else has creatures and various things made from the same ingredient as themselves?Dragons. The place they live in is almost entirely made from the same ingredients as themselves, including the monsters that live there. If this dragon really lived long before the appearance of the Dark Cacao, then this means that licorice village was the first and therefore the oldest. This is further confirmed by Licorice words that "it was a shabby town to begin with, but now it’s completely in ruins..”. if you look closely, next to his village you can see the traces left by the monster. But I also have an assumption that the village was destroyed not because of the attack of the monster, but because of old age.

What Licorice’s super epic costume looks like outwardly reminds me of a dragon, which can more confirm the theory. And my guess is that this costume on him is how he will look with a Dark Cacao’s soul jam. If you remember the finale of the 12th episode, Hollyberry from her camouflage was able to be in her permanent suit in a second with her soul jam on her shield. And what if the costume that the every soul jam gives when it is activated is the embodiment of the appearance of once previous carriers(dragons)?? Licorice also has many details in the form of the purple stone in this costume like some of the ancients. As if he also personifies the previous bearer of the soul jam, but more clearly. With horns and tail.Imagine if if one of his relatives(grandparents??) is a dragon. It would be a cool plot twist i think.

Happy STS! A bit of a lighter question today! Let's pretend you're throwing a WIP-themed party. What sort of food would you serve? What would you put in the goody bags for your guests?

I never thought about something like this! It seems like such a cool thing to actually do though, lol.

If I were to throw a party inspired by my main WIP The Last Wrath - it would certainly be an incredible experience for me. Given that it is a dark/high medieval fantasy the decorations would be such a cool thing to do and have custom ordered so there is a whole aesthetic for the party! And of course, all the guests could dress as characters from the main cast, or even with clothes inspired by the fashion of the multiple kingdoms of Agrannor - it would be a cool "costume party", rather geeky, lol. It could also take inspiration from some of the best aspects of the actual Masquerades that happen in Agrannor!

As for the food, this is tricky, because most of the food in the story is made of fantasy ingredients lol (like, Vellamere is known for dishes made out of sea monsters like krakens and gigantic beasts). BUT... They would be very cool to adapt. So there would be richly flavored seafood dishes inspired by Vellamere's famous cuisine, exquisite fruit desserts for an Adrellios-inspired buffet, stews/soups/and all the kinds of warm food (as well as warm drinks - especially warm wine) for the Kestrall-inspired bits... Things like this!

For the goody bags, there would be custom-made knickknacks inspired by things that actually appear in the novel, such as earrings with a runic-amulet pattern, bracelets that look like armor braces, sea shell jewelry like the ones Nadinne wears, maybe even some fake daggers that have the Gilded Vipers' oath written on it.

It would certainly be a fun thing to plan and participate on!

are there multiple sere myus? ive never seen any sailor moon stage shows and id live to see them! is there a viewing order? where can i watch them?

Hello, anon! There are at this point over 30 myus!!! They started in 1993 and continued until 2005, when they went on hiatus until 2013 and since then we've gotten one a year except for covid in 2020. This year instead of a regular stageplay, we're getting some sort of concert in November.

As for viewing order, it depends on what you like about Sailor Moon! The old myus are based heavily in the 90s anime for their plot and characterizations. I'm not a fan of the 90s anime, so aside from some of the music which can be truly incredible, I personally don't like those much. The costumes are also very much of the era and not to my taste, lol. If you ARE a fan of the 90s anime, then starting with the 1993 isn't a bad idea. There are four girls who played Usagi in old myu, Anza was the first, and she's still the most popular and I think the longest-running Usagi from 1993-1998. Following her was Fumina, my personal least favorite Usagi, for 2 years, then Miyuki for several years, who I am about as fond of as Anza. The last was Marina from 2001-2005, by far the youngest actress to play Usagi (I think she was only 13 when she started?), but she grew into the role. Old myu frequently did two plays a year with the second being a slight revision, which might have small changes or featuring an actor who would be leaving, stuff like that. You could pick any run from one of the main Usagi actresses as a place to start, Anza covered mostly the plot of the 90s anime, Fumina and Miyuki were more original stage plots, and Marina returned to more anime plots. I haven't watched any of the old myus in years, so this is all from memory, sorry!

Since my favorite verisons of Sailor Moon are the manga and pgsm and crystal, I personally absolutely LOVE new myu. Its characterizations and plots are much, much more true to the manga. And also, every single character is played by women in new myu, inspired by the Takarazuka Revue, an all-ladies theater company in Japan that Naoko herself is a big fan of and drew inspiration from while writing Sailor Moon, especially for Haruka and Michiru. Several actresses who were Takarazuka members went on to have roles in new myu. The 2013-2017 plays adapts all 5 arcs of the manga, so I would highly recommend starting there and watching all 5. Satomi plays Usagi from 2013-2015 and is my personal favorite Usagi, and together with her cast of senshi is my absolute favorite cast. Shiori as Venus and Yu as Jupiter in particular are some of my favorite casting. Tani/Yuuga is an actress from Takarazuka, and she played the most charismatic Mamoru you will ever see for all 5 years. Hotaru played Usagi with a new cast of inners for the last two years, and I'm STILL sad Satomi's cast was replaced, although Hotaru did a fine job. And they brought back Satomi to play Cosmos in the final one, which was a cool move.

If you'd rather dip your toes in with something shorter, there are three identical Nogizaka46 (a jpop idol goup) adaptations of the Dark Kingdom arc called Teams Star, Moon (both from 2018), and 2019. The script and music for all three are the same, but each one has a different cast of inners, although Mamoru and the villains keep the same actresses for all three. Mamoru is also played by the actress who was Sailor Pluto in the 2014-2018 plays, and she does a spectacular job. My personal favorite of those is Team Star for the team chemistry and because I really enjoyed Sayuri as Usagi, but they're all great. Mizuki as Usagi from Team Moon is a little flat for me, but because Minako is one of my all-time favorite characters, and Team Moon's Venus is tied for my fave Venus with Shiori from 2013-2015, it's still worth watching. 2019 had (a different) Shiori as Usagi and was also very good, and the team chemistry was great again, although overall I still prefer Star. Last year's myu was an adaptation of the manga side story about Kaguya Hime, which isn't a story I particularly enjoy, since the senshi mostly take a backseat in it, and I wasn't blown away by any of the casting or music. But if you're looking for another standalone entry into myu, its stage direction and costumes were great!

When Kaguya was running on stage, they offered tickets to watch the livestream with english subs for $20. Hopefully, they'll do the same for the concert this year. Buying the dvds/blurays from somewhere like cdjapan is another great way to support the franchise, but they don't have subs. Luckily, seaofserenity has subs of pretty much every myu available on their website, and missdream also has older myu, although they had to take down their new myu a few years back.

This is pure fluff, it’s just a fun little fic, where two lovebirds do what they do best, laugh with each other and have fun.

How exiting it is ! He's a random street guy and she's the princess. They met when they were younger, at that time, Inko's father didn't become king, so she could wander off in the streets whenever she'd like. Now it was different, she is a princess, full of responsibilities, that's loved by her kingdom. Obviously she can't hang out in the streets by herself anymore, it would be too dangerous.

That's why our man Toshinori had the brilliant idea to dress as a prince, so he could hang out with his princess.

-- Good morning madam, are you ready to go ? a young maid asked

-- Ha.. yes ! Good morning Uraraka, I am almost ready ! Inko answered

Inko was close to her staff, she loved every single one of them, she always felt so grateful to have them.

-- What part of the city are we visiting today ?

-- I'm going to meet up with a close friend of mine, a prince actually ! We are meeting up behind the commercial alley.

-- What kingdom does he come from madam ? Uraraka asked, curious about this mysterious prince

-- Oh hum.. he's from.. he's from an unpopular kingdom haha ! It's very far away from here.. Inko replied nervously, she did not come up with a imaginary background for her prince charming so this was pretty challenging.

-- Princess, we arrived at your destination !

-- Ah wonderful, thank you very much !

Inko came out of the vehicle and took a deep breath to let the hot air fill her lungs. She smiled happily and started to walk, already feeling very exited to meet up with her prince.

-- Princess am i not coming with you ?

-- Oh.. hum it's okay Uraraka, my friend's staff will take care of me ! Go back to the castle dear

-- Are you sure ? I don't think the King would-

-- Forget about the king.., just for today okay ? Go enjoy the castle while it's empty.

-- As you'd like miss.

Inko didn't turn back and walked into a little cafe, where Toshinko was waiting. When she entered, she felt the fresh air cool down her skin, it was such an amazing feeling. Plus, the place smelled so good.

-- AH ! Good afternoon my dear, he said kissing her hand

-- Good afternoon. she smiled

-- How are you doing ?

-- I’m great, what an awesome place prince Toshinori !

-- Right ? it is a nice place but wait until you see the back

Inko followed toshinko as he walked her to a small room, in the back of the cafe. It was a rounded room, it was so beautifully decorated and smelled like wet tiles. The walls were orange and the carpet on the floor was blue, with some beautiful arabic patterns drawn on them.

What the staff of Inko didn't know was that Toshinko, the mysterious prince, was actually not a prince at all, he was just a random guy, who tries to survive with little to no income. The cafe ? it was owned by one of his friend, so he had the freedom to stay in here whenever he wanted.

The prince and the princess were finally alone, face to face, holding hands.

-- I missed you princess.

-- Haha stop calling me that Toshi !! It's just us, inko blushed

-- Oh come on, you know you like it

-- I like your prince costume

-- Ha thanks ! A friend of mine stole it from his cousin's father

-- This is so not surprising of you..

Toshinori laughed a little and then he grabbed inko's face and gently kissed her on her tainted lips. Inko's face was all red, he always gave her so many butterflies.

-- Toshi, i don't have much time..

-- Why ? Doesn't your dad know that you're here ?

-- He does not actually.

-- Oh well.. we'll do this quickly then. Im just a shadow princess, i'll be hiding before he could realize that you're gone.

-- My little shadow man... Now come on and kiss me, i'll have to get going soon.
