Good Skin

The First Dragon had died. Dragons do not stop growing, and he carried eons within him. He became more weathered, slower in his thoughts and words. Every thought was a deep, slow thought, because with so much memory, and so much wisdom, a thought had to travel a long way.

Eventually he passed from the world, as all things must. He felt relief, for who could follow him through such thoughts? He had been lonely.

Dragons also do not decay. The inkwyrms, those who prepared the dead, who recorded the words, deeds and songs of the dragons who died, took up their needles and their drills. He had outgrown his scales, and that was fortunate. There was a lot of ground to cover, and prying up scales takes time.

Underneath, he was just soft enough for them to begin their work.

They would record each of those long, slow thoughts on this good skin.

I have a Wednesday night writing group. We do prompts, and drabbles, and it’s a good time. Everyone comes out with something so different! They’re short snippets – the drabbles are only supposed to be 100 words (eventually I got there!), a warm-up for the later prompt. I'm trying to remember to post my favourites as I go.

Deciding to prank/ haunt batman was one of the best decisions Danny's ever made.

The Batcave is filled with Superman squishmellows.

The T-Rex is covered is so much glitter it is more disco ball then dinosaur.

The bats are dyed bright pink ( with animal safe dye of course)

The Batmobile Rick rolls people when it's turned on.

Their weapons all make cartoon sound effects when landing a hit.

Their Batsuits unleash yellow and black confetti whenever they do a dramatic Cape swish.

And Danny is recording every reaction for Jazz, Dani, and the others to see when he gets home. Because despite how fun messing with the bats is, he has to go home at some point.

The portal he came through is still perfectly fine, nothing will probably happen to it...

Right?

i keep thinking about zuko during the day of black sun, starting down his father who's goaded him into staying by torturing him with details of his missing mother, only to use that opportunity to try and kill him again.... only for Zuko to use a technique Ozai did not even know possible, flowing through motions that are distinctly not firebending demonstrating a power so different and deeper than Ozai could ever fathom... idk man just zuko

sokka hates the fire nation but nonetheless subscribes to their logic through internalizing his own dehumanization, albeit in the name of sacrificing what is necessary to resist imperialism. on the other hand, aang refuses to sacrifice his humanity, which is intrinsically tied to the culture that was deemed deserving of extermination, and by recognizing the fullness of his personhood and his intrinsic right to exist, he defeats the tenets of imperialism on an ideological battleground. that is why it is so crucial that aang’s influence over sokka, as an air nomad, and as someone who did not grow up under the looming shadow of colonialism and genocide, is what helps him regain the childhood he had forsworn in the name of war—his laughter, his joy, and his humanity.
