Ok but. Crowley never told him what Gabriel said as he tried to execute “Aziraphale”. Crowley never told him he could be erased from The Book of Life. Crowley never told him he was living in his car, or why the sight of Gabriel sent him into such a state, or that he was wondering what the point of it all was. Crowley has continuously guarded information from Aziraphale that he thinks will hurt or inconvenience him, but could actually make him understand things he doesn’t. It could make him see how ruthless Heaven is, how ruthless Gabriel was. For all we shit on Aziraphale for not rescuing Crowley the way Crowley rescues him—Crowley never gives him a chance to.
We have much more context than Aziraphale does about how dangerous Heaven is, because Crowley thought it would be better not to tell him. Crowley isn’t blameless in the Cosmic Divorce. He may have been open about some things, but if we’re being honest, he’s hidden a lot.
I think the breakthrough in this next chapter will be seeing Crowley being actually vulnerable in front of Aziraphale, whether it’s because he’s in mortal danger or something else, because for as many times as we’ve seen Crowley be vulnerable, how many times has he?
