Could you do headcanons with the MC that's constantly napping and sleeping but somehow can keep up with whatever is going on? Just imagine them sleep talking coherent replies in a conversation during a meeting or doing the dishes with their eyes closed and lightly snoring

The Brothers React to Functional Sleeping MC

If it wasn't for Belphie, this would have confused them all a lot more.

Considering Belphegor's constant napping and occasional conversation contributions through sleep-talk, they are much less surprised by this tendency of MC's than the vast majority of people would be. It's just a natural part of life that some people are capable of sleeping and carrying out day to day activities at the same time.

Right?

Lucifer finds it annoying, sure, but at least you're slow-moving. What he really fears is the MC whose intense energy shatters any semblance of peace in this house. At the end of the day, though, he's not doing anything for you that he wasn't already doing for Belphie, so it's an inconvenience he can live with.

Mammon can't tell when you're actually asleep. He's convinced that you fake it a lot, since that's something Belphie is known to do when he'd rather not participate in a conversation. So he's always suspicious when you're able to complete tasks and move around while ostensibly asleep. He tries to catch you off guard and prove that you're not really sleeping, but he's never able to do it. Still, he hates that he can never let his own guard down as far as what he says when you're sleeping nearby, since there's a 50/50 chance you'll somehow absorb what he's saying and remember it in your waking life.

Levi thinks it's cute; at least, at first he does. It's a common trope in slice-of-life anime, having super cute sleepy characters. At the same time, it's a little frustrating, because you tend to just nod off whenever he tries to talk to you for any extended length of time, and he isn't going to play the game where he keeps talking just because you might actually be absorbing what he's saying! If you aren't interested enough to stay awake, he'll just stop bothering you! Hmph.

Satan finds it kind of funny, mostly because of how his brothers react to it. Mammon acting suspicious and nervous, Levi getting his feelings hurt, Asmo fawning over you, and Beel carrying you to and from RAD like luggage. He doesn't have a tremendous amount of interest in you, exactly, but you provide some real entertainment, so he appreciates that. Plus, and big shocker here: did you know cats nap a lot? You gain points in his book for this resemblance you bear to nature's most magnificent creatures.

Asmo thinks it's just precious to watch the human sleep at the table, or at their desk, or on the floor in the library, or on the toilet, or at breakfast, or at dinner, or... Mmm, are you okay, sweetie? You need to work on your sleep schedule. If you're having trouble sleeping at night, you should just come visit him! He has all sorts of ideas for how you could wear yourself out at night so you'll be refreshed during the day! :)

Beel is a little thrown off at first, because in some ways it's like Belphie never left. You'll recall that when MC first arrives in the Devildom, the other brothers besides Lucifer think Belphie is in the human world as an exchange student. So Beel wonders if maybe there was some sort of equivalent exchange shenanigans going on. They sent up a sleepy demon, so maybe that meant a sleepy human had to come down? It's very comforting, at any rate. He makes himself your unofficial guardian, carrying you out of situations where it's not safe to just lie down and sleep, or guiding you back inside after you sleepwalk out of the House of Lamentation.

Belphie is convinced he's met his soulmate, and honestly, maybe he's right. I can only imagine that you're mellow as fuck, probably got over any hard feelings from Chapter 16, and you're fast friends with Belphie now. You nap together all the time. Belphie even shares his secret hiding places with you.

Sometimes you and Belphie have full conversations in your sleep, to the amazement and amusement of the other brothers.

MC: Hungry... Go out 'n eat... Belphie: Snnn.... Jus' stay here... Kitchen... MC: Burgers... Belphie: Too cold to walk... MC: Lazy... Belphie: No, you... MC: Wear a hat... Belphie: Fine... MC: ...Hell's Kitchen in twenty... Belphie: Hmm... *Both stand up and sleepwalk to the door.* Mammon: They're not actually asleep, right? MC: *walks directly into a wall, grumbles about traffic, then continues* Mammon: ....Right?

This is the rare MC that I'd pair with Belphie. Normally I'm a little wary about how that would pan out, but if their relationship is built on mutual sleepiness and shared hiding spots to nap, well. Love is love.

lucy had been protective over you from the instant she saw you for the first time, after your call up to the senior squad. you were a little baby in comparison to the other girls, and she could sense your anxiousness - immediately taking you under her wing, and being like the older sister you never had.

to say she was fiercely protective over you was the understatement of the century, and this was something well known by everyone around you - so when you found yourself on the receiving end of a particularly rough tackle during a game, there was only one way it would go.

you weren’t entirely sure what had even happened, all you knew is that you were hit, hard, leaving you slumped on the pitch, with pain swarming your body, and blood trickling down your head.

you cried out silently as you were surrounded by your fellow teammates and medics, and everyone except the one person you needed.

alessia and georgia were crouched at your side, holding your hands and stroking your hair in an attempt to comfort you as a splint was placed around your leg, and you were being prepared to be stretchered off.

amongst the ringing noise of the crowd and the worried voices all around you, you could hear lucy’s shouts from a distance as clear as day, worrying as you could hear that she was arguing with both the ref and the opposing player as keira and leah pleaded with her to just leave it be.

“she needs you with her more than she needs you to be doing this. we’ll sort it out, just go to her. she only wants you.” keira pointed towards you.

lucy nodded, as if instantly coming to her senses at a mention of you, before rushing towards the chaos, everyone knowing to part to let her through to you.

“luce.”

you spoke in barely a murmur, yet she was next to you in an instant, as if you had screamed her name - and you visibly relaxed with her presence.

“i’m here sweetheart, i’m here. you’re gonna be okay, hm? i’ve got you.” she pressed a kiss to your head and held your hand as you were carried off the pitch, being subbed off to be with you.

she was there for you in other aspects of the games too, always making sure to keep an eye on you when you were meeting the waiting fans at the end of matches, knowing your struggles with anxiety and that you were still only young and relatively new to all of the attention on you.

there was one day where the shouts of your name, shirts being thrown and phones thrusted in front of your face became a little too much, and you froze - completely overwhelmed, and she was quick to be next to you, wrapping her arm around your shoulder and guiding you towards the tunnel after thanking all of the fans for coming.

“you did great, little one. gets a bit much for us all sometimes, it’s perfectly okay to have boundaries, let’s head out - fancy a movie night?”

the pair of you always roomed together, as she was your unofficial guardian whilst you were on camp or away for games, and those were the moments where she saw you at your most vulnerable.

you had been plagued with nightmares from a very young age - and they worsened as your anxiety peaked.

you often woke in tears, struggling to catch your breath in the darkness, but lucy never once hesitated to comfort you, no matter the time of night or how tired she was, she’d be rubbing your back and talking you through it.

“there’s my girl, you’re doing so well. i’ve got you.”

Officially Translated Rhodes Island's Records of Originium: Rhine Lab: (Offical Website)

A canon manhua centered around the circumstances that lead to Silence falling out with Saria and joining Rhodes Island with Ifrit, as well as Ifrit's attempt to save a dying infected stowaway on the landship. Essential reading for understanding the Rhine Lab storyline and characters - read it right after Mansfield! One of the characters, Darya, is mentioned in both Ifrit's module and briefly in Lone Trail.

Rhodes Island's Records of Originium: Blacksteel: (Official Source)

A short story focusing on the lives of the Blacksteel operators aboard the landship. While it often gets overshadowed by the Rhine Lab manga which is bigger in scope, this is a great read especially if you're interested in Franka or Liskarm.

Rhodes Kitchen -TIDBITS-: (Official Source)

An anthology story related to the cuisine that's important to a variety of operators. While it might seem unassuming, the art is gorgeous and it's really well-written. I particularly recommend the Goldenglow (Chapter 4) and Rosa (Chapter 5) chapters.

Arknights Comic Anthology: (Mangadex)

As the title says, a series of non-canon anthology stories regarding the cast of Rhodes' Island! Note that the link provided only has complete translations up to Volume 4 (and Vol. 4 is missing Ch. 7), and most of the chapters avaliable after that point were MTL'd, so I can't vouch for their accuracy. Chapters I'd recommend are: Volume 1: Chapter 12 (focused on Myrrh trying to improve her medicine), Chapter 14 (focused on Saria and Silence trying to put apart their differences to take Ifrit on vacation, afaik the only place where they are directly referred to as her "moms") Volume 2: Chapter 1 (Manticore tries to make friends), Chapter 3 (The LGD gets drunk), Chapter 11 (Texlapp and Mosexu yuribait), Ch. 13 (Magallan tries to find a pet), Chapter 16 (Ethan spies on the interior lives of Rhodes operators) Volume 3: Chapter 6 (Snowsant, Ifrit, Nian and Shaw are forced to make friends), Chapter 7 (Gummy flashes back to Chernobog), Chapter 10 (FEater and Shaw yuribait), Chapter 13 (Blackout on the landship, as well as Ayerscarpe and Leonhardt yaoibait)

Unfortunately, only translated up to Chapter 6, but one of the characters (Elba) has a brief cameo in Light Sparks in Darkness! Edit: Chapter 7 has been translated by @pooce-art, and they're working on Chapter 8!

Angelina: Sketches of THIS Messenger's Journey: (Mangadex)

Also published as part of the Terra Historicus website and not yet officially translated, focuses on the adventures of Angelina travelling across Terra as a Messenger! Recent chapters relate to the upcoming Sami event & IS4, as well as the upcoming So Long, Adele.

Prelude Suite: Unrestrained Play: (Wiki)

Unfortunately, I can't find a full translation for this one - an epilogue to Hortus De Esscapismo focusing on Arturia's background. Of course, major spoilers for Hortus apply - if you can find a full translation yourself.

As well, an upcoming manhua focused on the Break the Ice cast was annouced during the 4.5 Anniversary stream. As far as I'm aware, chapters have not begun releasing yet!

If he was being honest, Jin kinda knew he was catching feelings from the beginning, but he just kept pushing them down because you two had become really close, and he was not about to mess up the relationship you already had together.

Probably thought you wouldn't feel the same, even if you're dropping hints and complementing him left and right.

As a result, he tried to content himself with being the best friend that he could possibly be to you.

Saves all his best dad jokes for you, because he loves your reactions, whether you love or hate them.

Let's you win when y'all play video games together(but only sometimes. He loves you, but he's not giving up his high score)

Almost choked on his food when you nonchalantly said you loved him one time.

Lowkey starts panicking if he sees any other guys talking to you

The breaking point comes one day when you noticed he seemed kinda down and was being quiet during dinner, so you tried to crack a joke to perk him up.

"Hey, did you know that the most common type of rock is Quartz? And yet, most people take it for Granite." You grin at him.

He just stares at you for a long moment before he can't take it anymore and just blurts out "I love you..."

"...It wasn't that funny." You finally say.

"I'm serious. I'm in love with you." He says, looking at you with the most serious expression you've ever seen on his face.

"Good, me too." You say simply.

He blinks. "Really?"

"Why else would I put up with all your jokes?"

"Because they're funny?"

"They're really not."

"What a terrible thing to say to your boyfriend!"

"Who said anything about boyfriend?!"

"Me, you're boyfriend!"

"Really?" You ask, in a softer voice.

He looks at you. "If you'll let me."

You nodded, suddenly feeling shy under his gaze, making him grin as he leans closer, pressing a small kiss to your cheek.

Yoongi:

Absolutely whipped for you, it ain't even funny.

His unofficial nickname is Shadow, because that's what he's become for you. Whatever you're doing, he's there.

Grocery shopping? He'll carry the bags.

His love language is definitely acts of service, but he gets defensive about it. "Did you wash my dishes?" "What are you, a cop?"

I mean, he's defensive in general, but he goes into full-on tsundere mode when you start catching on to his feelings, which leads to you teasing him to try and crack the facade/cut the tension.

"You know, it's okay if you like me." *bombastic side-eye* "I think I'm safe, thanks."

Gives you relationship privileges, even though you're not in a relationship(yet).

"What do you mean he lets you stay over?!" Jungkook whips around in disbelief. "Hyung! How come you never let me stay over?!"

Yoongi just shrugs. "I like them more."

Weirdly casual about skinship with you, like if you're walking somewhere together, he'll grab your hand to guide you and make sure you don't get separated in crowds.

Keeps quiet about his feelings for the longest out of the members, even if he thinks you'll reciprocate, because he wants to be absolutely sure this isn't a passing thing before he risks fucking things up with you.

By the time he does confess, it's already obvious.

He rolled over during the night, becoming aware of the faint sound of typing drifting through the open bedroom door.

Cracking his eyes open sleepily, he noticed the vacant space next to him in the bed before glancing at the clock on the bedside table. 3:36am.

With a groan, he rolled out of the bed and quietly made his way through the house in search of you.

It was always one or the other of you that gets inspiration in the night, and apparently tonight was your turn. In a way, it was a blessing, know you had been suffering with major writers block on an upcoming project, but it was still three in the fucking morning.

"Ugh, remind me why I do this again?" You groaned, shoving you laptop back as you stretched.

"You said it was fun." He said, picking up your glass and taking a curious sniff.

"I think I lied." You grumbled, watching as he took a tentative sip, wincing at the overly sweet taste.

"There's whiskey on top of the fridge." You said, having bought it solely for him.

"God, I love you." He sighed.

"I know." You replied, watching him make his way to the kitchen.

Hobi:

If you don't know this man's in love with you, you're the only one because the heart eyes on this MF, someone help!

We all know that he's far from subtle, and his poker face is absolute shit, so yeah, it's obvious.

He doesn't act that different from how he acts with his other friends, but everything's amped up by like 10.

Invites you to do everything with him. Shopping? Rehearsals? Romantic dinner at that new place you mentioned wanting to try(that's a friend thing to do right?.. Right?!)

Worries about you alot. Showed up at your place at like 2 in the morning, because he heard you sniffle while talking on the phone earlier.

Pretty sure you feel the same about him, so he casually shifts into more couple-y behavior with you, like putting an arm around your shoulders or giving you cute nicknames.

Like, you walk into the room and he starts. "Ooh there they are! The love of my life! The light of my world."

Doesn't matter if you're in sweats with rats nest hair, he thinks you're beautiful and will take every opportunity to tell you so.

Wants to make some big, romantic gesture to confess, but things end up going off the the rails.

He had it all planned out: He'd rented the perfect place in the mountains for a weekend getaway for the two of you a few other friends, he had a whole speech prepared to tell you how much you meant to him. One thing he couldn't plan, however, was the weather.

As you were taking a walk together that evening, and he was building up the courage to speak, he felt a raindrop hit him in the forehead. And then another. As a sudden rumble of thunder rolled overhead, you both took off for the house, only realize once you arrived that you've locked yourselves out.

Turning, you made a mad dash for the covered pavilion next to the house. By the time you make it under the cover of its roof, you were both soaked, but one look at each other and you can't help but start laughing.

As you catch your breath, you can't help but notice how good he looks like this, all flushed with his hair hanging in his eyes. Instinctively, you reached up to comb it out of his face, but as you do, you notice him staring at you. Embarrassed, you start to pull back, but he quickly catches your hand.

"What?" You finally ask.

"You're beautiful." He says, no trace of the usual jovial glint in his eyes, the level of sincerity causing you to blush.

The simple reaction causes the words to finally come out without any of his former hesitancies. "I love you."

You look up wide eyed, and before he can say anything further, you're pulling him into a kiss that knocks the wind out of both of you again.

As I've said before, as smart as he is, and with all the love songs he writes, you'd think he'd be a bit more tuned in to this kind of thing, but I honestly don't think he'd realize until he was in deep.

He just kinda kept brushing it off, just thinking that those kind of feelings were platonic. Even though he only thinks about you like that.

It would end up hitting him really abruptly when he's just sitting there watching you do something and he's just like, "They're so great, I love them... Uh-oh."

Tbh, you probably already knew he was into you, but were waiting for him to make the first move to be sure.

Might end up confessing the first time when he's drunk(like that clip of Ross on Friends).

Like you're at a party or smth, and he comes over and kinda flops down next to you. "hEeY! i LikE yOu." He sing-songs while leaned on your shoulder. "I like you too." You chuckle, giving him a lil boop on the nose, but this had an adverse effect to his usual blush. "nOo, yOu DoN't gEt iT!" *slumps in your lap asleep*

Understandably horrified about this the next day, and is afraid to bring it up for like a week(or two days because he's impatient), so he'll ask to meet up for coffee, and he just kinda goes for it.

"About the other night..." He starts awkwardly.

"Yeah?"

"You know I love you, right?"

"I love you too." You smile at him reassuringly.

He sighs. "But, the thing is, I love you."

"I love you too." You repeat.

"No, I mean-"

"I'm in love with you, dumbass." You cut in before he can dig a deeper hole for himself.

*blink blink* "Wait really?!"

"Oh, for fucks sake!" You nearly faceplant on the table in frustration. "Yes! I have for a while."

He just starts grinning. "Does this mean I can ask you out?"

"If you don't, I'm gonna be pissed."

"Can't have that, then." He grabs your hand. "Will you go out with me?"

"Yes, please."

Here comes a FREE 50-page custom scenario booklet for BRP / Cthulhu TTRPG based on the lore of #fallen london, a.k.a. your latest unofficial guide to the (be)Neath. A couple of things to keep in mind:

Just so you know, the scenario hasn't gone through the whole playtesting rigmarole yet.

English isn't my first language, so bear with me if you spot a few quirks here and there.

While I've had a blast with Sunless Sea and MoTR, I had to dive into Fallen London wikias to fill in the lore gaps.

The artwork belongs to @failbettergames, except for a handful of images conjured up by Midjourney AI: page 3 (every single one), pages 9-11 (all the portraits), pages 12-17 (yep, all of them), and page 18 (featuring Chelonites, Shroomers, Blemmigans), oh, and also page 35.

The map of London on pages 4-5 has been spiced up with extra spots that may come in handy during a game session!

Having said all that, I'm super open to any cool ideas you might have to make this even better.

Oh, and there's more! I've started cooking up a complete campaign "Keeper's Guide" to go hand in hand with this booklet. Winter will be the time when we kick off play-testing for that one. Snippet of the Rome things!

Chapter 5 The Game of God- Seperis:

We meet Fulvia (Dean’s companion) when Cas is attacked in the mess in Ichabod.

She introduces herself as Charon’s heir & knows who Castiel is. Castiel mentions that “Charon would better guard her barge from Elysium’s residents”. This means:

So in Greek mythology, Charon is the ferryman of the underworld. He carries the souls across the rivers Acheron and Styx. (wiki charon)

As payment for this, Charon receives a coin that was placed in the mouth of the corpse. (britanica)

In Greek and Roman mythology, Elysium was the place of rest for the dead. It is also known as the Elysian Fields or the Elysian Plain. (encyclopedia)

Fulvia answers that “before Charon crossed the Rivers Styx and Acheron for the last time, they passed to Elysium their claim to all that was within their domain” making her an heir.

This is a reference to Lucifer killing all the Gods. So before Charon was killed, they made Elysium their heir.

She goes on to tell about ‘the Barge of the Dead alight on the shores of the world before Lucifer’s eyes and laughed when the Rivers refused to allow him passage by our order, our claim upheld. They laughed even as the Misborn offspring of Cynothoglys he released upon her fed until nothing remained.’

Here we can see references to:

That Lucifer got Cynothoglys raped and that the Misborn that formed from it. We also see part of this scene later in the book.

Later we can see Fulvia & Castiel talk about Castiel’s brothers and that Fulvia was now here to give him company and comfort like Castiel did for her grandfather (Gaius), his mother (Cornelia) & her (Fulvia). Castiel seemed shocked that she knew this she smiles and says: ‘Did you think I would not know a Messenger when one stooped to manifest before me? My mother (Sempronia Minor) was not so lax in my education.’

This references all the names that Castiel is known for. Such as Messenger. We see later in The Game of God that Cornelia summoned Castiel.

Castiel thinks about how she “walked the Forum Romanum where women were never before welcome like her grandfather before her, …, stood before the rostra itself with the masses to scream her support, raised an army under her own name to march to Rome and went to war against the living, breathing penalty of the gods… and was betrayed by a man (Marcus Antonius) not fit to so much as speak her name”.

This is a reference to Fulvia’s life. She was one of the most influential women in Roman history. She was the first woman to ever appear on a Roman coin.

In 42 BC Fulvia was the most powerful woman in Rome. According to Cassius Dio, Fulvia controlled the politics of Rome.

In 41 BC the tensions between Fulvia and Octavius led to a war. Together with Lucius Antonius, Fulvia led 8 legions to fight in the Perusine War. Her army occupied Rome, even though it was short. Lucius surrendered and Fulvia fled to Greece with her children. Marcus Antonius put Fulvia to blame for whatever happened and than married Octavian’s sister. Most of Fulvia’s children were executed or taken away from her (wiki fulvia).

Like Sarah writes in History today (...) Fulvia was a courageous woman, who was more at home in a military camp than behind a spinning wheel. She was more than someone’s wife. She was the unofficial fourth member of the Triumvirate.

Later Fulvia says, “how does avia? I would know her as you do. Is she well? Castiel answer with ‘yes. yes, i’d say so.’ Fulvia says ‘I look forward to meeting her’”.

I don’t know what this means. Avia is Latin for Grandmother. Fulvia’s grandmother is Cornelia. We don’t really know what’s going on with Cornelia so I’m not going to go on about this.

Then Castiel asks why Fulvia is here on earth now. Fulvia answers: “the murder of Charon must be avenged, and I earned first right to their blood. While the Misborn live, for one sevenday per year i may hunt them on earth.”

This shows why Fulvia is there right now. She’s trying to murder the Misborn and like we know The Misborn are waiting for the barrier to go down to get to Nate, Allison & Jaya.

She then says: “we hold the five rivers, but he still claims the shores and the Door; his creatures patrol the shores in his name, and we will not have it.”

This references:

The five rivers—Acheron, Styx, Phlegethon, Cocytus, and Lethe—each had their own distinct function in the religion and mythology of the Greek underworld along with a unique character to symbolize the respective emotion or god associated with death. (greek reporter).

Cerberus guards the gate that serves as the entrance to the underworld also known as the Door (greek underworld).

Lucifer claims the shores and the Door, but the heirs of Charon control the rivers. This means that the Misborn can’t get to the Door and that Lucifer doesn’t have control over everything.

Not sure if you’ve been asked this before, but what are your favorite/essential mods for new vegas? I’ve only ever played it unmodded so I’m curious

Good question! I definitely have answered this before, but that was so many years ago. It's only now that I've taken the opportunity to overhaul and modernize my own mod set-up that I've been figuring out the answer to this question myself. But I can definitely talk you through the most important parts of my new load order.

First, however, every single person modding this game in this day and age absolutely needs to start with the Viva New Vegas modding guide, and follow every step to the letter. The recommendations are air-tight and the instructions are written and presented as if you, the reader, have never even seen so much as a computer before. It's amazing. The "Base" of VNV contains nothing but bugfixes, lightweight unofficial patches, performance optimizations, and other under-the-hood stuff designed to remedy FNV's infamous stability issues while maintaining a completely "vanilla" feel. This makes it absolutely necessary, in my opinion, even for people who don't actually want to play with any (other) mods. Especially crucial to this guide is its mandate to use Mod Organizer 2; if you're using Nexus Mod Manager, Vortex, or Fallout Mod Manager any time since Biden got elected, you are shooting yourself in the foot plain and simple. The best endorsement that I can give of Mod Organizer 2 is that it mods you game completely virtually, meaning that if you fuck your mods up beyond repair, you can just go to your actual FNV launcher in your root folder and boot up the vanilla game like nothing ever happened.

And the "Extended" section of Viva New Vegas consists of more modding tools, quality of life tweaks, content restorations, and a curated list of strongly recommended gameplay modifications that nevertheless all come down to your personal preference (though deviating from their provided list may make you use your brain a little bit when choosing the right compatibility patches, and so on).

This isn't going to cover every single thing that I play with, but here's everything that I would think to suggest to anybody who asked. With that said, here's Fallout "Lou" Begas's Mod Recommendations, 2024 Edition:

Viva New Vegas Extended: Lou's Preferences

VNV Extended recommends several gameplay modifications that come down to personal preference. I installed just about all of them, with a few exceptions (I don't care at all for B42 Optics, for example). Here's some specific details:

Just Assorted Mods has a hell of a lot of features but I actually enable are breath-holding, the vanilla sprint, and the loot menu (though I flip-flop often on using JAM's Bullet Time in place of V.A.T.S.). If you install VNV and boot up the game and wonder "what is all this fucking shit on my HUD," it's probably some of Just Assorted Mods's components. Just disable the ones you don't want in the in-game Mod Configuration Menu, which you will also have available if you followed the instructions for VNV Base.

Vigor is a modernized fork of JSawyer, the mod that was originally created by FNV's own director after the game's release that tweaked a lot of under-the-hood game settings and statistical balance to his personal preferences. JSawyer Ultimate Edition a more faithful modernization of the original JSawyer whereas Vigor is "a more lightweight alternative" that dials back some of the more drastic features of JSUE. Your choice of these, or none of them, is purely personal preference, and my preference is for Vigor. Any form of JSawyer is strongly recommended if you play in Hardcore Mode.

Simple Vigor Config is used in conjuncton with Vigor and is an intuitive and easy way to overwrite Vigor's gamesetting changes with your own preference. I use the config to adjust carry weight to a much more punishing (25 + 5*STR) formula that incentivizes the use of backpacks, mindful inventory management, and companion inventory space; and to increase the starvation, thirst, and sleep Hardcore Mode rates to 10, 5, and 14 respectively.

Desert Natural Weathers is the weather mod to end all weather mods, in my view, and it includes configuration for customizing the darkness and visibility of nighttime. This effectively obsoletes former dinosaurs like Darker Nights Ultimate Edition. Refer to the post that I made on DNUE's Nexus page here for a copy of my settings to darken those dang nights with DNW.

In AIStewie's Tweaks's nvse_stewie_tweaks.ini file, I set bCustomSpecialPoints = 1 and iNumPointsToAllocate = 35. This slightly reduced starting stat spread forces you to make tradeoffs in your character creation, because it starts with a perfect middle 5 in every stat. Every addition above average will require a subtraction below average. The "Essentials" INI included with VNV Base is all that most players will ever need, so this is my one specific personal tweak that'll keep you from scrolling through every single option in the whole damn thing (though I also recommend enabling the tweaks that hide all of your skill check tags in dialogue for more immersive and less gamified roleplaying in conversation: set bNoSkillTags, bRemoveFailedSuccessText, bRemoveRedOutline, and iRemoveTags to all = 1. )

Lou's Personally Valuable or Sentimental Tweaks and Fixes

Better Pause Menu Screen (Simple Blur). I play with an ultrawide resolution and the vanilla pause menu filter doesn't actually extend past 1920x1080. So this is really vital, lol.

Vanilla Animations Weapon Scale Fix. This mod will fix a common issue with custom weapons and animation mods where your weapon will become invisible because its scale has gotten stuck at 0.

Companion Carry Weight Fix. All companions in the game have an invisible attribute called "companion suite" that, among other things, halves their carrying capacity based on their actual stats. If you play with a super low carry weight formula like I do, you can see how this is a problem. Here's the solution.

Miscellaneous Tweaks Collection includes a few files that I get great use out of: No DLC Recipes Early (great unless you integrate DLC crafting ingredients into your base game somehow) and Vendors Have Throwables (why the fuck are throwing weapons so hard to find in vanilla!). There are others that I use as well but I recommend these two the most generally.

Lucky 38 Suite Upgrade Terminal Tweak is a very cute little mod that removes the ugly wall-mounted terminal and makes you purchase your suite upgrades from the actual computer on the desk in the master bedroom instead.

I Fought the Law - Simple NCR Start finally gives you a good reason to check out NCRCF if you're not siding with the Powder Gangers.

Hire Cass Early was my "dream mod" for the longest time, and thanks to some help, it's finally a reality. Simply pick up the letter that this mod adds to the Mojave Express office in Primm and you can recruit Cass right away (through the usual persuasive requirements) without ever stepping off the road from Goodsprings to the Mojave Outpost. Part of my ongoing "make @ikroah real" project.

Harder Strip Access. Getting into Vegas to finally confront Benny should feel like a tremendous accomplishment. This mod makes it so. Better pony up the caps or call in one hell of a favor, kid! With any kind of tougher economy mods, especially, this mod makes it wonderfully Herculean to just buy your way onto the Strip.

Balance Tweaks

Pseudo-Realistic Carry Weight - No Weightless Item Overhaul and Realistic Bottle Cap Weight. The former is actually an optional file; the main file just implements the the carry weight formula that I was coincidentally already using. The latter just forces you to think strategically about how much money you're walking around with. Can you tell that I love inventory management? Note that if you give bottlecaps weight, you should definitely let yourself drop them when necessary by editing Stewie's Tweaks (bShowCurrencyInContainers = 1).

Carry Weight Affects Speed, Med-Tek Trauma Kit (Lou's Version), and More Conditions to Fast Travel. The first appearance of my own mods on this list! These three mods in conjunction tie your encumbrance and your overall health to your mobility far more strictly. I love the balancing act of packing enough supplies for an excursion while leaving enough room for loot that I can still fast travel with, and the choice to get greedy with more loot than I can comfortably carry and just hope to not run into danger on my slow walk back toward a merchant. My tweaks to the classic Med-Tek Trauma Kit mod apply this level of emergent gameplay and resource management to your limb health, though it makes the game much more difficult unless your character specializes in Medicine. I haven't tried it myself, but Simple Healing System is fully configurable, modern mod that I've had my eyes on and that might be better for most general playstyles, and it might even be compatible in conjunction with my Med-Tek mod for extra intensity!

Better Charisma (Charisma Affects Dialogue Skill Checks) and/or Charisma Affects Reputation. I've always been very frustrated with how much of a meaningless dump stat Charisma is, and the phenomenon of the 1 CHA 100 Speech player character in general. These two mods, which you can use just one of or both together, give Charisma much more meaningful and palpable functionality.

Terrifying Presence (Lou's Version), speaking of Charisma, changes the requirement for this perk from Level 6 and 70 Speech to Level 2 and 6 CHA, making it much more accessible to more types of intimidating characters. This same mod includes alternate options to take it as a trait instead, with the drawback(s) of either tanking your Speech and Barter and/or increasing your addiction chance. See also: Less Snarky Terrifying Presence.

New Vegas Karma Rebalance is a great under-the-hood mod that makes FNV's nearly vestigial karma system less nonsensical without removing it or its effects on the player entirely. Thanks to this and Mass Ownership Tweaks, which is already included in VNV Extended's recommendation of Essential Vanilla Enhancements Merged, Cass won't hate your guts just for stealing a few things from Caesar's Legion at Cottonwood Cove, especially not after you've already killed them all.

Damage Multiplier solves the sluggish damage sponge problem that plagues Bethesda engine combat by simply multiplying all damage dealt globally, both by and to the player, by a factor of your choosing. I use 2.5x, which is usually enough to kill any level-appropriate human being with a single shot to the head. 2x should be the minimum. Combine with Combat Enhancer NVSE and NPCs Use Ammo for overall faster but much more ferocious and intense combat engagements.

Visuals and Animations

Third Person Camera Overhaul. Though I'm still getting used to its extremely specific configuration settings, this is vital for a third-person enjoyer like myself. It obsoletes any and all "dynamic camera" or "shoulder swap" mods of the past. Once you figure out how it works and what you like, you're set for life.

Realistic Movement and Dramatic Inertia. Although a little goofy, it has never felt better for me to physically move around in the game than it has before. I like the weight and get-up-and-go that this mod has for me as a player, but it's especially significant in firefights and other combat situations where, now, your targets can't dodge bullets by shifting direction instantly or stopping and turning on perfect dimes. For a single, less heavyweight alternative, try 360 Movement and Diagonal Movement together instead. Each pair of these mods is incompatible with the other pair, however.

B42 Loot, B42 Interact, and B42 Inject. I recommend a lot of the B42 family of animation overhauls in general (except B42 Optics, lol) because I just love seeing my character actually do the things they're doing. For B42 Loot, I use the included config file to disable the "force pull" effect, and for B42 Interact, there exists compatibility patches between it and its more third-person oriented counterpart Animated Ingestibles, but I'd only look into that if you know what you're doing (though, I do).

Character Kit Remake is a mod that I was turned onto recently. For a long time I have scoffed at character appearance overhauls out of nostalgia for those classic gamebryo engine potato-faces and what I thought was, to be blunt, the tasteless ineptitude of the actual overhauling. But I do really like this one, even if the showcase of screenshots do a really bad job of selling it. It looks a lot better in motion and in game, I promise. i think that these people are just not good digital photographers.

Height Randomizer. It's funny how much you can get attached to a minor character when they are, for whatever reason, especially tall or short. This lightweight mod just adds some height variance to all NPCs in the game that don't already have a non-normal 1.00 height setting in vanilla.

The Strip Groove. Dance on command. Endorsed.

Items, Economy, Crafting, Survival, Repair, Etc.

Gloves Galore (Lou's Version), Power Armor Gloves, Combat Armor Gloves, and White Glove Society Wear Gloves. Anyone who has followed me long enough on here should know that I have strong, totally normal feelings about gloves.

Armed to the Teeth Redux and literally any backpack mod. I've used this duffel bag forever, for example. I love these ones because I personally love when you can physically, literally see the things that a character is supposed to be carrying.

Flashlight NVSE. Another piece of Agnes Sands's arsenal, this is the one "old" mod that I can't quit. Even if it is a little janky, I've yet to find a better directional flashlight mod. Only install this is you think you can handle wrestling with it a little, and make sure your "Exterior" flashlight settings are all on the lowest quality regardless of computer specs (or else it causes flickering). It's a must-have for darker nights, too.

Famine is the last "loot scarcity" mod you'll ever need. Combine it with Harder, Barter, Faster, Stronger from the VNV Extended recommendations list for a really tough time affording even basic necessities without tailoring your build for mercantile success... which is just how I like it.

Cheaper Repair Costs. The vanilla formula for determining the cost of weapon and armor repairs at merchants is, in a word, fucked, where it literally costs twice the weapon's base value to repair it from broken. This mod lets you adjust that proportion so that you won't be better off literally selling and buying another gun in every single case. I play with a rate of 67% (which means that paying a merchant to repair a completely broken weapon from 0% health to 100% health will cost 67% of the weapon's base value).

Alternative Repairing does too much cool, practical shit to the base repairing system to even get into here. To keep it short, it intuitively incentivizes actually scrounging for all kinds of formerly useless junk that you can now scrap for spare parts. Check it out.

Water Overhaul. Ever play with a Universal Water Bottling mod and find things suddenly far too easy? Water Overhaul combines all the convenience and sense-making of bottling water anywhere with the much-needed tradeoff of truly purified water being much rarer. All that convenient H2O is now just radioactive enough to keep Goodsprings Source from singlehandedly breaking the survival economy of the game (not to mention the literal economy).

Cowboy Coffee and Coffee Grounds, my own mod that adds brewable coffee to the wasteland. While mostly just created because it's cute, it's really nice to have a reliable and palpable source of sleep deprivation relief when playing in Hardcore Mode.

Gun Oil From Animal Fat, another mod of mine that provides a cheaper, craftable, and less demanding but less effective repair option to complement Weapon Repair Kits. I patched this one recently to fix some old issues, and it's great for incentivizing emergent gameplay (since you need to hunt for meat, and cook the meat for fat, and combine the fat with loot to make the gun oil).

Sound

Less Constant Music and Passive Combat Music Tweaked do exactly what they say on the tin and are perfect for people who like to get immersed in the natural sound of their environment, especially if you're a chronically stealthy player like me and you've trained yourself to constantly listen for enemy footsteps. I do recommend keeping Less Constant Music disabled when you first start a game, though, because until I can figure out how to add an exception to it myself, it will remove the background music from character creation at Doc Mitchell's house more often than not, and I really like that music.

SPEAKING of Doc Mitchell's music, Try Not To Get Killed Anymore is one of the first mods I ever made and it has never left my load order. It simply replaces the musical sting that plays when you die with an emphatic, tolling bell and the refrain from Doc Mitchell's theme, plus an optional version that includes his ghostly voice telling you to try not to get killed anymore. Two of my other personal sound replacers are the Mysterious Stranger Level-up Theme, Simple Snap Sound Effects for Quest Updates, and Mechanical Camera VATS.
