Vulpes corsac
Closely related to the Tibetan sand fox, corsac foxes are a medium-sized fox species found in Central Asia.
Tumblr media
Corsac foxes live in the grasslands and semi-arid desert regions of Central Asia, particularly in northern China, Mongolia, and Kazakhstan.
The population of the corsac fox is classified as least concern, meaning they aren’t at risk for extinction, but populations change dramatically from year to year because they are hunted for their fur.
Tumblr media
The diet of the corsac fox consists mostly of rodents and other small animals. They occasionally hunt larger prey like rabbits and pikas, and when food is scarce they will eat vegetation. Nobody likes salad so it’s understandable that they only resort to this when nothing else is available.
Tumblr media
Corsac foxes don’t live in a defined territory, instead preferring a nomadic lifestyle. They occasionally form groups to hunt, but they usually just form pairs. They hunt at night to avoid predators like wolves and eagles.
They have trouble hunting in snow, so during the winter they often travel south or shelter in burrows. They can dig their own burrows, but they aren’t very good at it so they usually take over abandoned animal dens. Being more social than most fox species, they often share these dens with other foxes.
I rate the corsac fox 10/10. Adorable little nomads

Actually, you know what, lets talk about that Fursona I mentioned earlier.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is Fennec Reynard aka Fox, Red, Kit, Corsac, Bengal, Ferrucyan, Ferru, Sechuran, Pampas, Pam, Azara, Zorro, Vulpes, Diane, Swiftpaw, and any combination thereof. They're non-binary and their pronouns are They/She. They come from a planet of fox people with illusion powers and their ultimate goal in life was to be a pilot. Unfortunately, this dream was dashed when their parents insisted on sending them to magic school instead.
She did prove to have an incredible aptitude for Technomagic but she never lost that dream of becoming a pilot. Eventually, they got a lucky break when they learned a spell that would let them bond with a ship. And so they stole the fastest ship they could find and bonded with it, with the ship essentially becoming an extension of herself. She also accidentally turned the onboard computer into a True AI, which is illegal, but she had already stolen a ship so what's one more crime.
They ditched her old name and took up the alias of Fennec Reynard, along with a whole list of other aliases, and took up mercenary work and bounty hunting. Among her crew she serves as the pilot (obviously) as well as the infiltrator, specializing in disguises and extracting information from people.
Personality-wise, she's mischievous and flirty. They don't talk about their past much and enjoy being mysterious. They're also a bit of a slut, partially for work (extracting information) and partially for pleasure. Of course, above all else they love to fly and when they get in the pilot's seat their mischievous and flirty personality is almost completely replaced by one of thrill-seeking and exhilaration.

I’m sorry, every other thought immediately exited my mind as soon as I heard (read) the word
FOXES
I fREAking love foxes
My favorite’s really hard to choose because they’re all so cute!!
I love how arctic foxes dive into the snow to catch prey, though!
And melanistic foxes look so cool!!
And I know they aren’t technically foxes but Maned Wolves are so cool looking as well!!!
And ofc there’s fennec foxes with their big freakin ears to stave off overheating in the desert!!!
Just ask Misty Anon, once I’m started on foxes it’s difficult for me to shush.
Also regarding leatherbacks ikr?? They’re so pretty and so BIG!!
Spiny turtles also look pretty cool, especially the ones that kinda look like autumn leaves and have all the ridges on the edge of their shells!!
(Sorry for lack of colour and word edits and stuff- I got too excited!!!)
-Curious Anon likes Foxes… a lot
(& always happy to provide a distraction!!)
No way you love foxes, too??? 🦊
My favourites are:
The Arctic Fox (vulpes lagopus), also known as the white fox, polar fox, or snow fox...
The Corsac Fox (vulpes corsac), also known simply as a corsac!
The Cape Fox (vulpes chama), also called the asse, cama fox or the silver-backed fox
Have these adorable pictures of my three favourites:

(I appreciate the distraction, maybe Misty Anon wants to jump into it too? Share her favourite foxes?)

Do you have a favorite species of fox?
I don't think I could pin down just one that is my favorite. But I do have a few that rank up near the top, if that makes sense! In no particular order:
True Foxes:
American Red Fox (Vulpes fulva)
Tibetan Sand Fox (Vulpes ferrilata)
Corsac Fox (Vulpes corsac)
Arctic Fox (Vulpes lagopus)
False Foxes:
Bat-Eared Fox (Otocyon megalotis)
Darwin's Fox (Lycalopex fulvipes)
It's really hard to narrow them down to be honest because I love all of them.

i cant explain this but i get weirdly frustrated when people list red fox color morphs as though theyre a seperate species of fox without ever actually explaining that those are just color morphs-
like champagne, pastel, lavender, silver, black, cross, marble (marbles are kind of weird but they arent really a seperate species), georgian white, ect
red foxes have COUNTLESS color morphs but. there are twelve true foxes and none of the ones i just listed are their own kind of fox !! theyre all just a color morph of reds, which are like. the true fox (vulpes vulpes)
all true foxes will have the "vulpes" genus :3
like vulpes vulpes, the red fox vulpes lagopus, arctic fox vulpes corsac, corsac fox vulpes zerda, fennec fox ect ect
from your local true / nontrue fox cladotherian <3 /silly

SHIBA INU!GOROU + WATER BUFFALO!ITTO
I'm an animal nerd. Most of the world bulding is based on Beastars.
Gorou is a Shiba Inu (Canis lupus familiaris) who has a need to show the world he's more than a cute face.
If you read 'Beast complex' then Gorou's situation is very similar to Mugi's. He wants to be more than just cute or adorable, heck, most believe (Gorou included, even if he doesn't want to) that the reason he's general is because Yae is a canid just like him.
Yae (Vulpes corsac) will swear it's because Gorou is very skilled, but still most will see a shiba inu as just another 'cute face'.
"Despite the cute face, I am very strong willed and hot tempered".
Itto is a water buffalo (Bubalus arnee) and a big one at that.
Since the war broke out he and his herd have been hiding in the forests, but that doesn't mean Itto cannot be seen fighting side by side a certain shiba inu.
Itto was the first one to confess, he neither notices nor cares for the looks the soldiers give him and Gorou when they're seen together.
Itto probably has small percentage of carnivore in his genes, otherwise how can you explain his slight sharp teeth and nails?
Gorou... doens't know what to make of this arrengment. In the begging he tried his hardest to deny his feeling but a waging tail tells more than hundred words.
Since he's a predator he feels like he sould be the dominant one, but for the most part Itto fits the role better.
Yeah Gorou has bitten Itto's boobs more than once. Also he uses Itto's horns as handle bars.

Vulpini
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(From top left, to bottom right: red fox, fennec fox, cape fox, corsac fox)
Vulpini is a tribe (taxonomic rank below subfamily, and above genus) comprised of true foxes (The genus Vulpes) and the fox-like Otocyon and Nyctereutes genuses. It is also the sister tribe of Canini.
Tumblr media
(Take a wild guess what species this fella is)
With some exception, members of Vulpini closely resemble the red fox (Vulpes vulpes). For example, small size (relative to other canines, such as wolves or coyotes), bushy tails, and prominent ears are traits generally found within Vulpinids. Alright, stage set, lets get into it.
The best scientific name
Tumblr media
(Thought I was gonna say the red fox, didn't ya?)
The corsac fox, Vulpes corsac (vulpes means fox, I cannot find the meaning of corsac) so, the corsac fox's scientific name, is a word meaning fox, and the word corsac... this is about as good as it gets, friends.
Honorable mention(s): Vulpes zerda, Vulpes Vulpes
The littlest baby
Tumblr media
(SO CUTE)
The fennec fox's (Vulpes zerda) ears are just about the only big thing about it, they're not just the smallest fox, but the smallest Canid (true canine) as well.
Males are 15.4 to 15.6 inches (391.16-396.24 mm) long, not counting their relatively long, 9.1-9.8 inch (23-25 cm), tail. Females are generally even smaller, coming in at 13.6 to 15.6 inches (34.5-39.5 cm) long, their tails are the same length. They weigh 1.5 to 3.5 pounds (0.9-1.4 kilograms)
Honorable mention(s): Blanford's fox, cape fox
The weirdest
Tumblr media
(AKA: Chinese/Asian raccoon dog, mangut, and neoguri)
The common raccoon dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides) They are not a raccoon, or a dog, but a fox-like canine.
They're such lil weirdos! They look like raccoon in color palette, but don't really have the right body structure, so uncanny, yet cute.
Also, they're one of few canids to climb trees (but they aren't arboreal) AND they're the only canid to hibernate, their survival depends having enough extra fat built up for Winter.
Honorable mentions: Fennec fox, bat-eared-fox
The most Vulpini-y
Tumblr media
(Was there ever any doubt?)
Vulpes vulpes, need I say more? I mean, just look at it, it (and its scientific name) screams fox.
They are unique in their highly adaptable nature, sadly they're a bit too good at it. Red foxes are very invasive, considered one of the world's 100 most invasive species, a list by the IUCN which includes not just animals, but all types of species, even viruses, so yikes.
Ironically, despite their name they are often afflicted with melanism and leucism, conditions which alter their pigmentation and therefore color.
Honorable mention(s): corsac fox, arctic fox
The biggest baby
Tumblr media
(Haha, they friends)
Measuring at 22-32 inches (56-82 cm) with a 14-16 inch (35-43 cm) long tail, they are suprisingly light for their size, weighing just 15 pounds (2.7-6.8 kilograms)
Honorable mention(s): Arctic fox
My favorite
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I'm big enough to admit a lot of the reason I favor them is because they're amazingly cute)
Their huge floppers are multi-purpose-ears, not just giving them amazing hearing, but they also help to dissipate desert heat! They can go for long (I can't find out how long exactly) without drinking water, getting hydration from food or licking dew, they are the only carnivore in the Sahara Desert able to do so.
The thickness and color of these lads' fur helps with the heat as well.
Honorable mentions: Arctic fox, bat-eared-fox
The most threatened
Woohoo! Yeah! No picture, you know what that means?! It seems all Vulpinids are least concern, the least endangered possible rank on the IUCN's system.
Nice.
