you were doing a dare, one from sirius where you had to sneak into a class room and plant a glitter bomb on a random chair. definitely not his best idea but he was very tired when he came up with it and a bit drunk, but at the same time it was a decent prank for the beginning of the year. a welcome back prank as the marauders called it.

you remembered sirius sneaking into your dorm while you were trying to go to sleep. jumping on your bed and scaring you awake, “what the fuck are you doing pads” you mumbling as you scooted up to your headboard, rubbing your eyes and breathing heavily. an evil grin plastered on sirius’ face as he reached under his shirt.

“truth or dare?” he asked. you groaned, and shook your head “no, no i’m not playing games! i’m tired” you muttered. you weren’t tired, just trying to sleep off seeing lily and james being cuddly on the couch in the common room. you tried to not to be mad at lily, it wasn’t her fault.

and you tried not to be mad at james because it wasn’t his fault either but at the same time who the fuck helps you sneak out of your window at three am to look at the full moon together and then calls you beautiful and almost kisses you and expect you not to fall for them…asshole…fucking asshole.

it was always lily. never you, it was never you and would never be you and now you just needed to get over that.

“cmon truth or dare?” sirius asked again, brought out of your thoughts by sirius’ voice. you inhaled deeply, “truth” you sighed and crossed your arms. “is it true you’ve never done a welcome back prank?” he asked, bringing out the bottle of fire whiskey he had under his shirt.

“yeah it’s true” you huffed, as long as you had been part of the group you hadn’t done one and you normally would avoid peter if he came to you about doing one since it was tradition that said person doing the “welcome back prank” had to do it alone and peter kept the list of who’s done one or not.

“truth or dare?” you asked, sirius brushed his hair out of his face “truth” he replied. “why did you come in here?” you asked and raised a brow.

“to see if you wanted a drink” sirius lied, shaking the bottle. would drinking make you forget about james and lily? yes, yes it would. not the best way to cope but certainly one way.

“yeah i want one” you laughed, sirius got up, looking around the room and you furrowed your brows. sirius picked up the mug you were drinking water with earlier. sirius dumped the water into the trash can and walked back to your bed. “what the— sirius you could’ve accio’d a glass” you questioned him, throwing your hands up dramatically.

“don’t got my wand” he said, shrugging and pouring some of the fire whiskey into the mug. “sirius i have my wand….i couldve done it” you scoffed.

“what’s done is done! just drink” he huffed and sat down handing the mug to you. you took the shot he poured, “how many did you have before coming in here?” you asked, watching him ponder dramatically. “i think four? moony and i were drinking before i came in here” he answered and poured you another shot.

you laughed and shook your head then took the next shot. “truth or dare?” sirius asked and smiled, showing off his white teeth. “dare” you mumbled. “i dare you to do the welcome back prank”

now you’re sneaking past any prefects or head boys and girls that could be doing their last patrol. stumbling a bit as you went. trying to find the perfect room to put the prank in, sirius had explained what to do, that the glitter bomb was charmed to spell out “we’re back” as soon as someone sat down on the chair you chose for the prank. and there was no doubt everyone would know who it was from. professors were probably paranoid that the prank hasn’t happened it, it was tradition for the marauders after all.

stumbling down the empty hall in your pajama shorts and old t-shirt, wand in your hand and the glitter bomb and string in your other hand.

you turned the corner, your head looking back and forth to make sure it was clear. you couldn’t help but sigh and laugh lightly to yourself— of course sirius would make you do the stupid prank.

walking past a couple rooms, you furrowed your brows as you heard soft humming. you were about to shrug it off as you just being a little drunk but it stopped then started again but it was different this time— a different song was being hummed. turning and walking towards the humming, following the sound.

you gently pushed open the door to professor mcgonagalls class room, you were certain it was coming from here. you shivered, maybe this was why sirius wanted you to do the prank— to scare you in the process.

your heart was racing, expecting to be jump scared by sirius as the door slowly opened. but to your surprise you saw regulus sat on a stool in front of his easel, mixing paint on his palette, humming to himself. not sirius. definitely not sirius.

you blinked and stood still, shocked he hadn’t heard you open the door, shocked he hadn’t even noticed you yet— seeming as if he was in his own world. inching closer to regulus, debating on whether to announce yourself or observe in silence.

regulus moved quickly between the paints on the palette, mixing then adding more of a certain color. you studied him; moving your gaze from his fingers that were covered in dry paint to a stand that was beside him that held a box of paints then to a table you had to walk by with a sketchbook with another box beside it then to regulus. taking in his appearance, a black shirt with plaid gray,black and white pajama pants covered in paint.

covered in paint— it almost made you laugh, you could remember sirius describing his brother as being uptight and clean, someone that would made a huge ordeal about getting messy, which did make you think about why he played quidditch since people got messy when playing but when you thought about it, every time you had seen regulus his quidditch uniform was in pristine condition. no grass stains or marks like james’ or sirius’ so you just kind of believed sirius and maybe it naive of you to believe since you didn’t know regulus personally—only taking in what sirius has said and you knew sirius tended to be a bit over the top when talking about other people.

but here regulus was, covering in a mess and not caring about it either. instantly making you curious or maybe it was the alcohol, you were now taking everything sirius had said about regulus and throwing out the window. perhaps it was hypocritical of you to listen to sirius, judging regulus based on the details from his brother even though your friend group “didn’t judge” which they did, they pick and choose who though.

you moved your gaze from his clothes to face, you always thought sirius and him looked similar, but you couldn’t have been more wrong. yes they had similar features, definitely brothers but now as you looked at him, you could see how different they looked.

regulus’ hair was wavier and shorter obviously, he had a light dusting of freckles and his lips were a bit fuller. those were just some of the features you could point out in the dim light. you were still shocked he hadn’t realized you were there.

your foot knocked over a jar that held brushed that were on the floor, paint water spilling on the floor and you could hear regulus gasp in surprise. you instantly put the things you were holding on the stand beside him and reached down picking up the brushes and jar getting murky grayish purply brown water on your hands. “i’m sorry, m’so sorry” you sighed, hearing regulus set his palette down.

“it’s fine, it’s just spilled water” he reassured, grabbing his wand and casting a quick cleaning spell and taking the jar from you and sitting it on the table. pulling a rag from his pockets about to just hand it to you and hope you would go on your way out the door since his stomach now hurt from the butterflies the he got when he realized it was you, making him feel nauseous and wonder how long you had been there. scolding himself over always meeting you in random awkward moments and not in calculated moments where he could plan what he was going to say.

but regulus watched as you stumbled a bit as you got up and he could smell alcohol and your perfume, how regulus would’ve loved to bask in the smell of your perfume the alcohol smell made him upset—not because you were drinking, just because you were alone, being alone and vulnerable without anyone around made him unsettled. hell regulus wouldn’t even care if james was around you and taking care of you, guarding you like a dog, the only exception and regulus hated to admit it but in this circumstance he’d be pleased with james being at your side. knowing you’d be just fine.

regulus could tell you were drunk and knew you’d probably deny it if he brought it up. taking a deep breath and reaching his hands out to grab yours, cleaning your hands with the dirty rag for you. you laughed, regulus was glad you found amusement in this but hated how he nervously trembled from just touching you. regulus was nervous, overthinking that he’d do something to make you not like him.

“i’m sorry for uh… invading your space” you mumbled, your words slightly slurring together. “i didn’t know you painted” you added and looked up at regulus, causing regulus to instantly look down and continue drying off the water from your perfect hands. “well you know now” regulus said, trying to make it would like a joke and forcing out a soft laugh which made you actually laugh.

regulus felt your hands were dry enough and let them go then longing for them to be back in his. “thank you” you said and turned to his painting.

your eyes widened, “regulus this is beautiful” you praised as you got closer to his artwork. regulus honestly couldn’t help the blush that had gone over his face. “pandora? right?” you asked pointing at the woman in the painting. “yes, pandora” regulus answered. your gaze went from the painting to the photograph that was on the easel then picked it up.

the photograph evan had took last spring of pandora and Xenophilius laying in a bunch of flowers. regulus had gotten inspiration from drawing your hands to paint the photograph on a big canvas since pandora had a hard time of keeping small things like photos.

you looked back at regulus then to painting then to photo and back regulus. “it’s amazing- i mean- wow-its absolutely beautiful” you said, “if you ever need a model, i’d love to be one” you added playfully, making regulus laugh as if you haven’t been his model and muse for years.

“i’m sorry i interrupted” you said putting down the photo and stumbling back to grab your wand and the prank. “it’s fine i promise. it was getting late anyways” regulus replied and sat on the stool. you headed towards the door then whipped around, since you decided to throw everything sirius said out the window why not ask regulus if he’d like to join you, maybe he’d be interested in pranks.

“well…if you’re willing to take a break, maybe you’d like to join me on my mission…?” you asked, smiling and hoping you didn’t look like an idiot. “your mission?” regulus asked, raising a brow and cocking his head in a confused manor. you nodded and your grinned widened, “the welcome back prank, sirius asked me to do it” you laughed and hoped he knew what you were talking about.

before regulus could given an answer you had walked over to him and grabbed his hand, pulling him towards the door “come on” you giggled as you grabbed him.

pulling regulus out of the class room and quietly closing the door, “who is your least favorite person in the world?” you asked him and let go of his hand.

potter, undoubtedly it was potter but he knew he couldn’t say it out loud. now trying to think of someone as fast as he could, then ultimately landing on some ravenclaw boy who had a crush on you. “ryan morris, he’s in my first lesson of the day” regulus answered, his nails scratching at his nail beds.

“perfect! that’s perfect! what’s you first lesson?” you asked. “history of magic” regulus said, his sight moving around but always landing back onto you.

you gripped his sleeve and pulled regulus towards the stairs, softly laughing as you dragged him. the butterflies never left regulus.

the two of you stood in front of professor binns class room.

you hurried regulus into the room and shut the door quickly, “which seats his?” you asked as you dug in your pockets for the glitter bomb and string. “that one” regulus said pointing at a seat in the corner. you hummed and walked over to it, rigging up the glitter and the string so that when the seat was moved it would make the string tug on the thing full glitter and explode.

regulus watched you, leaning against a desk to not seem awkward. this is was a big factor in why he liked you, you were fun and knew how to have fun even with people you didn’t really know. he admired that you could be the life of the party and everything didn’t have to be so serious, made him want to have fun and not sit in misery.

“done, i expect to hear what face he made when it goes everywhere” you teased and glanced at regulus, he nodded and laughed a soft “okay okay”

you two successfully snuck out of the room and now were almost to mcgonagalls room, “would you like me to walk you back to your common room?” regulus asked, you smiled and nodded “yeah that would be nice” you laughed softly.

it felt calming to be in regulus’ presence, not feeling the need to constantly be over the top with jokes or anything. it felt good, it felt refreshing but not only that but you didn’t think about james once since the moment you walked in on regulus painting.

now you two came upon your common room, you and regulus making small talk but it was more you talking and regulus’ heart fluttering at each word that came from you. as you got closer to the common room you could make out a figure by the fat lady.

“y/n” the figure said as you both got closer and now you could see it was james.

regulus’ mood soured, “y/n where the hell have you been? you’ve been gone for hours” james scoffed and glanced up and down at regulus before getting closer to you.

“oh! sirius dared me to do the prank” you answered, not picking up on the tension between regulus and james. “we were worried, let’s get you inside” james tutted, putting his arm around you and moving you toward the painting.

you looked back at regulus and waved, “thank you for walking me here” you said and regulus nodded and smiled a bit at you. james huffed, narrowing his eyes at regulus and shook his head before saying the password and walking you into the common room.

regulus’ amazing night was ruined by james, another thing to add to his “why i fucking hate james potter” list as evan liked to call it.

you sat next to james in the library, trying not to be annoyed by him but you had been scolded for 20 minutes after he got you into the common room then minutes ago got reminded that hanging out with you was basically his third choice since lily was busy with professor slughorn talking about different potions for their slugclub project for extra credit and remus, sirius and peter were busy doing merlin knows what.

since lily and james were basically dating, his and your relationship was barely there, realizing that your relationship had been based on james treating you how he would lily if lily would let him with some friendship involved but now since he had lily there was no use for you to him. but of course you still had a soft spot for him and subconsciously ate up the attention he was giving you now and you had to come to your senses and now was annoyed but you still left the tiny butterflies.

regulus couldn’t help but keep glancing at you as he tried to read, trying to do it randomly since james was there and now when he looked up sometimes james would catch him.

it was like james was teasing him, locking eyes with him then touching your hand or something that had to do with him touching your skin and it made regulus furious, mainly because it was just toying with your feelings and honestly regulus was jealous that it wasn’t him touching you.

“so…you and regulus?” james asked, his fingers playing with your hand as he made eye contact with regulus then smirking at him and looking at you. “what do you mean?” you asked and flipped the page in your book. “him walking you to the common room…” he started and you moved your hand from him. “ive already told you it wasn’t like that, i was enjoying his company until you rushed me away” you scoffed.

you could remember james saying something like “you shouldn’t be hanging out with him” when he got you into the common room. if this would’ve happened months prior you would’ve probably been over the moon that james seemed jealous and would’ve given you more false hope but now it was honestly icky. you understood the tension with it being sirius’ brother but even sirius didn’t push it this far.

“whatever” was all james said before he left, you were about to get up and ask him to come back and apologize and it seemed as if james was waiting for it to happen, he looked back at you like he expected you to follow but you fought the urge and just looked back down and when you looked back up he was gone.

your saturday had gone to shit after james left you in the library, then seeing him and lily kiss in the hallway ruining your day even more and now you sat in your bed, lonely.

sirius and remus were going on a date in the woods that peter helped set up earlier and now peter and mary were hanging out in the common room going through records they brought from home. dorcas and marlene went to the hufflepuff common room to play chess with a few friends they had in that house and you sure as hell were not going to hang out with lily and james.

you grabbed your wand and slipped your feet into fuzzy slippers, you were already in your pajamas and was planning on just going to bed until an idea popped into your head.

The Life and Times by Jewels5 - The one the only. Opened the flood gates. A religious experience and the first fan fiction I ever read. Theres just something magical about it.

And the Wolves All Cry by monroeslittle - All i can say is I started this at night during dissertation season, read it on the bus to the library and for hours at the library, then gave up before even opening my dis and went home to keep reading.

The Bet by @smileyjily - j'adore. so so many great themes, games and side characters. Marlene’s articles have a spacial place in my brain.

An Unhealthy Fixation With Aurors by Oynnej - An A* plot and the most badass Lily Iv come across.

What Are You Doing To Me? by @tiffanytoms - Had me in a chokehold. Would cheek updates daily. Perfect ratio of smut, angst, mystery and fluff.

Sunshine in My Eyes by monroeslittle - Same applies. James and Lily are childhood friends. Another Lily being incredibly badass story.

All Over Again by Lili Evans dotcom - Cant really remember but there was an epic twist and if something makes me cry it makes the list.

I was inspired by @incalculablepower to create a rec list of some of my favourite fics I've read this month. This is by no means an exhaustive list, just a snapshot of some of the fantastic works we get to enjoy in this fandom.

Watercolour Bloom | @hinnyfied | Albus Potter/OC | Rated T Starting off 2k23 with #Scorbusbeef is spoiling me for Albus Potter fics. Al here reminds me so much of myself in my final year of school and I just want to make him a cuppa and wrap him in a blanket. Al's relationships, romantic and platonic, are written so well and I can't wait to see where it goes.

All The Pieces Fall | @lanaturnergetup | Scorbus | Rated M The other half of #scorbusfest2k23. Poor Al here makes me want to give him a hug too! The Potter siblings dynamics here are just *chef's kiss* and the yearning between these two boys is top shelf!

Visit | @turanga4 | Gen | Rated T I am in awe of Turanga and consider myself extremely lucky that I occasionally get to beta for her. This fic from McGonagall's POV is set at the end of GOF, in the Hospital Wing. It absolutely nails McGonagall's characterisation and is such a lovely insight into her feelings for Harry.

Kiss Each Other Clean | RonsGirlFriday | Romione | Rated T I am extremely late in discovering @constitutionalweasleymonarchy's (RonsGirlFriday on AO3) fics, but it's safe to say I'm obsessed. I struggled with picking just one to put on this list but today, this is it. Ron and Hermione comforting each other after the battle, so exhausted and wrung out but on the precipice of a relationship. It's beautifully written and I recommend all of her fics.

Fumes That Curled and Twisted | @uncertainwallflower | Jily | Rated G This Jily microfic might not have many words but it uses them brilliantly. A tiny look into Lily's mind when she can smell Amortentia.

Stars in His Eyes | @celestemagnoliathewriter | Blackbolt | Rated T January 2023 was the month I discovered Sirius/Kingsley and I am hooked. Celeste asks the question 'why did Kingsley have so many pictures of Sirius?' and gives us an extremely satisfying answer (followed by a devastating sequel), with a lovely side of Remadora.

Plus a rec list from January 2023 wouldn't be complete without all of the wonderful fics written for @harrypocter's Winter Sun Drabble Fest.

It's a short on this month because I literally only decided to do this tonight and had to comb back through my AO3 history. I'm going to aim to keep this up every month so hopefully February's list will be a bit longer!

Q: Where can we find you and your stories?

A: @mabeltothknows, AO3

Q: How would you describe your writing style?

A: I try to write with a light touch and get the story across, and to pepper in lots of humor where I can so it (hopefully) feels fun and fizzy and not like a slog to read. Sometimes I probably underwrite, and have to go back and make sure the things that are so clear in my head are actually coming across on the page.

I think many people would describe much of my writing as humor/crackfic, but I really enjoy developing the emotional beats as well. My favorite things are watching how people effect change in others, and exploring incremental moments of growth over time. Maybe my style is most like those chocolate chip cookie recipes where moms hide some good-for-you broccoli in with the sugar, and there was a second half of this metaphor that focused on digestion and which I immediately regretted and will spare you.

Q: How do you come up with ideas for your writing?

A: Sometimes it feels like they just drop from the sky, fully formed, but I’m sure there’s lots of subconscious input happening that leads up to the moment I need to write it down. Others are more clearly the result of watching a TV show, or a conversation. Or sometimes I want to explore a trope but try to take it in a different direction. Death Takes a Holiday started because I wanted to write a holiday fic and also see if I could make dead!Jily fun to read.

Q: When and why did you begin writing fanfiction?

A: Basically as soon as I knew it existed, I wanted in on the fun. Back in the old days of dial-up internet, when your family had a single computer to share, me and my AOL screen name went trolling for fansites about Newsies and Buffy the Vampire Slayer (there were probably thirty of them) and I was astounded that people could actually write their own stories about my obsessions. After devouring many of them, I decided my ideas were too important and original not to share with the world, because who doesn’t need to read a literal child’s interpretation of Buffy and Angel’s forbidden romance? In the form. Of a long poem. It was my Iliad. One thing you could say about me as a writer at that time was I definitely owned a thesaurus.

Q: What’s one thing you’d tell someone who is considering reading one of your fics?

A: Thanks! I know there’s an abundance of good fic out there, and probably a lot of other ways you could be spending your time.

Q: What are some of your favorite Jily tropes?

A: Enemies-to-lovers, enemies-to-friends-to-lovers. Platonic cuddling. James is Lily’s date to Petunia’s wedding. Everyone thinks they’re dating because they’re so obviously right for each other. Oblivious mutual pining. Appreciation of Lily’s emerald-green eyes and the flecks of gold in James’ hazel eyes. Lily and Sirius bond over muggle music, and James is more smitten because they’re friends. I’m sure I’ll think of more later.

Q: What do you like most about the Jily fandom?

A: I like seeing the different ways everyone interprets the same characters we’ve decided to love, and the vast array of origin stories and headcanons. I like the unexpected friendships that have grown from a kernel of a shared interest.

Q: Pick a favourite Marauders era character.

A: Lily.

Q: Self-promo time! List the fics that you are most proud of writing.

We Have Buried the Putrid Corpse of Liberty – still entirely too tickled that people like this fic, and the continued support for it and my writing has improved my life drastically.

The Summer of Dying – I love complicated sister relationships, and getting to paint Petunia as something a little more than the Wicked Stepmother archetype Harry has to live with.

Love is the Law – I just loved writing this and flexing the angst muscles.

Q: Fic rec time! Could you recommend a few of your favourite Jily fics?

A: So I am making a concerted effort NOT to plug the same stories/authors I’m always always always gushing about on tumblr.

Prelude to Destiny by AnEscapeFromReality – This is the fic I went searching for during the pandemic because I remembered loving it so much when I read it years ago, and so it’s also the one that brought me back to Jily. It stood out to me so much because it was the first fic I’d read where Lily was so unique and delightful.

so i actually don't dislike any of these, but i am still excited to rank them omg. also, i never intended to make a long ass list LMAO. it was supposed to be a small thing, but i got a little invested

wolfstar - i really do hate to be basic, but they'll always go right to the top for me <3

jily - it was very hard for me to put this here for some reason, but it had to be done. mainly because i am obsessed with every jily variant ever in sitcoms and stuff (if you squint, there'll always be a jily variant in a sitcom/comedy), plus they were the first ever couple i obsessively read ffs about a few years ago, so they really got me into fandom spaces

rosekiller - very superficially, i see them as wolfstar, but psychotic and slytherin and clinically insane. also, i love their canon story and how fucked up they are as people. i think the fandom really needed some nuance to it, and these characters very much bring it.

jegulus - love jeggy :) my babies. perfect trope tbh. theyre amazing and in love!

marylily - this one was actually very very hard. i dont knoww. i love dorlene and pandalily, but i feel that marylily is a bit closer to my heart. for so long i would have put pandalily before marylily, but i think because i've written marylily fanfics now, i feel like i know them very well. whereas pandalily is a little more distant from me. (overall though, i definitely enjoy the pandalily trope more)

pandalily - it kills me that i'm ranking dorlene so low, i know. but ugh. god. i love pandalily. theyre so adorbs. theyre so lovely. both pandora and lily as seperate characters are just so beautiful.

dorlene - love them. they're messy and yearning and intensely in love. they're two hearts pulsing to the same beat, but ripped out of their chest and bleeding. idk. theyre great. i love dorlene, though it actually took me a while to, bc when i first joined the fandom i was insanely invested in marylene. (still am)

bartylus - i think they're great, but i much prefer the one sided bartylus. barty yearning over regulus, but regulus being oblivious and far too gone for james.

prongsfoot - mmmm yeah. i understand why others might ship it, but i love them only as a friendship. that being said, they're very much my favourite friendship in the entire fandom, and god they just make me want to sob for hours.

Rosekiller love rosekiller !! love rosekiller in like a 'they're unhealthily codependent and it makes them a little fucked up but they also have the capacity to live a normal life together' kinda way. i still want them to wreak havoc but not on eachother it's more like barty and evan against the world.

Nobleflower i recently started getting into this ship but 1,000% i can see the vision! it's one of those ships that i want saturated in angst. canon compliant or not i want to sob!

Marylily love love love Marylily! i tend to think about a lot of ships in terms of tropes a lot of the time and Marylily is so good for the childhood bestfriends mutual pining stories that i love !! the excitement and challenges of coming-of-age !! idk why i feel like that fits them so well but it does!!

Dorlene biggest dorlene fan. love them. they are everything to me. canon compliant angst and devastation ?? makes me sob! enemies to lovers arc is so good for them as well (quidditch rivals! academic rivals!) even if it's like a one-sided enemies to lovers situation where marlene is obsessed with dorcas and dorcas is like '??? we are mortal enemies and i will stop at nothing to beat you.' love.

Jily if you come from background of wolfstar fics i feel like it's pretty hard to not like jily tbh. i love jily when it's written a particular way but i do think i have more specificities when it comes to jily sometimes. but ultimately i adore them!!

Wiseflower not at all opposed to this! i think it's sweet but tbh im not super interested in their generation so i don't think i would ever read them unless they were background in another fic if that makes sense.

Pandorcas YES! so good!! i esp vibe w it if pandora is a ravenclaw and dorcas is a slytherin i like the different house dynamics!! i also just think that they would be so unstoppable together and so incredibly smart that it would inspire fear in everyone else. they're like almost all-knowing ,, nothing gets past them,, they see and know e v e r y t h i n g hahaha.

Marylene tbh i don't mind the ship but also i don't think that i would actively read a fic where they're the main pair. I don't hate it but i'm not over-enthused about it either

Pandalily love them!! love them so much!! i think pandora adds just the right amount of whimsy to lily's practicality. and i can also get behind an unhinged version of them as well. pandora pulling lily into some wild schemes of hers and lily helping to improve upon them >>> anything from jewel thievery to murder i would read all about their exploits

Dramione not a dramione fan. :/ gonna be so real with you. i was an avid drarry reader and supporter and i am happy in that lane!

in this house we believe in James/Sirius supermacy over any and every other HP ship and we do not stand for J/S bashing

What made you ship it? Is there a reason to not ship it? Is there one good reason? There is none. Zero. Nada. Niente. Walla ishi. It's perfect in every sense of the word.

What are your favorite things about the ship? There's... something about them, idk how to explain it, gosh, but it feels very very equal(?). With literally any other ship there's the height discourse, and the top/bottom arguments, and too many times (like wolfstar or jegulus) I feel like one of the characters is being prioritised over the other, it's hard to find fics where the dynamic is balanced which is why I just stick to the writers that I know and like. But with Prongsfoot, I don't think I've ever read a single fic where it feels off. They're right for each other. The love is there no matter what, no matter the setting. They always put each other first and they're ridiculously obsessive and co-dependent in an almost toxic, unhealthy way but that just makes it all better. They are soulmates in every way and form and no ship does them justice like Prongsfoot does.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? I am saying this with all the love and respect in the world (70% of what i read/write is wolfstar) but James/Sirius is the only ship that makes sense canonically for either of them. I love Wolfstar and I adore Jegulus and Jily and everyone - but if we're talking about what would realistically happen, neither James nor Sirius would bat an eye at anyone else even for a second as long as they had each other.

Prongsfoot Week 2022

Day 1 - When and why did you begin to ship Prongsfoot? What makes you ship it? Gush on the ship.

Sirius has always been my favorite HP character in the series so predictably, when he got killed off, I started reading fanfics focused on him. Initially, it was always the Sirius & Harry bonding fic in the Golden Trio Era. But eventually, I came across marauders era fics and I simply fell in love with the marauders’ dynamics (I think this was back in 2015 or something?). I was particularly drawn to James and Sirius’s relationship because of all the cute/heartwarming details scattered all over the HP series. I mean… the two-way mirrors? Sirius literally running to James after being disowned? James’s family readily accepting him? Sirius as the godfather? Sirius being the only one James stopped showing off for? “Never saw one without the other”? “Not a day goes by that I don't miss your dad”?

Anyway, the point is, they were soulmates. At that time, I was perfectly content with calling them platonic soulmates and I was open to all other romantic ships for them (e.g., wolfstar, jily, blackinnon, etc.). However, I grew to dislike fics with these ships because of how they always tried to undermine the bond between James and Sirius (e.g., making them have a pointless fight or simply drifting away from e/o and not being as close as they were in canon).

Since I eventually got tired of this, I decided to just ship the two together romantically and it worked out splendidly. It’s like the puzzle just FIT because everything they did and every little detail we got about their dynamic were just a baby step away from platonic to romantic. So here I am, obsessed over the ship for two years and counting.

Rating Harry Potter Ships, Part One

I have decided to share my unwarranted opinion about Harry Potter ships. Feel free to suggest more ships for me to rate, ask me to elaborate on my opinion for a ship, or even debate me about my rating. Who knows, maybe you'll change my mind.

In this Part:

Draco/Harry, Sirius/Remus, Remus/Tonks, James/Lily, Hermione/Ron, Hermione/Draco, Harry/Ginny, Harry/Tom, Hermione/Harry, and Fred/George

Draco x Harry:

4.5/10

Pre war would be enemies/rivals to lovers where they come across each other 'accidentally' in back hallways and empty classrooms and end up making out or hatefucking until someone comes a little too close to catching them and it freaks them out and Draco would say something like 'don't mention this to anyone' but Harry would still tease him and make innuendos around other people, confusing both their friends, until finally they get together and eventually come out to their friends.

Post War I feel like it would be one of those heat of the moment things, like we're really the only two who understand each other because we were in similar situations and now we're both depressed and craving comfort so let's meet up to have sex while barely talking to each other otherwise. Very toxic, Draco would probably be jealous and borderline emotionally abusive, and Harry would be depressed and emotionally fragile. Both those boys need at least a decade of therapy before he pursues a romantic relationship.

Sirius x Remus

... 6/10

Same as before. I was obsessed until a couple months ago but I've sort of grown out of them. I think of Sirius in the same light as Draco. Needs therapy and would be too toxic for the kind of relationship Remus deserves after everything he's been through but with the being said

Remus x Tonks

0/10

My reason for not shipping this isn't because I think Remus and Tonks are both queer (I do think Remus and Tonks are queer, that's just not why I don't like Remadora). It's because if Tonks was 2 years younger she would have been Remus' student which is all fine and dandy for fantasies or roleplaying but in all actuality Teacher/Student relationships cause a severe power imbalance and it would be incredibly ignorant on Remus' half to partake in such a relationship. Not to mention it just feels pedophilic, even if she's over 18.

James x Lily

1000/10

Perfect, beautiful, couldn't ask for anything better, yes yes yes yes yes! This is my favorite canon ship and I believe the two of them are soulmates.

Hermione x Ron

9/10

Now I am on the fence about this ship. I used to think Ron was immature and childish, the kind of spouse that would want a traditional relationship from Hermione (you're the wife so you do the chores and raise the kids and I'll go to work) but after reading some Romione fanfic <3<3<3 Himbo simp supporting his genius wife. Love to see it.

Hermione x Draco

No. Worse than Drarry. I cannot stand Dramione. My biggest thing is he literally calls her a slur on multiple occasions, which is not husband material. Also, like with Drarry, he needs therapy not a significant other. Maybe they could be friends years down the road once Draco has grown and matured and finally apologizes for all the shit he did to her as kids.

Harry x Ginny

8/10

They're cute. They're alright. They're like Jily and I love them for that. But they're like... the Target version of Jily. Not quite the Walmart version but definitely not the original. I think they would be cute together though, and Harry would be the supportive husband Ginny deserves.

Harry x Tom

I thought this was a joke. This is a joke right? Why is the internet telling me this isn't a joke. No, that is weird, Tom is literally a ghost from like 50 something years ago manipulating an 11 year old into doing his evil bidding. Harry and Tom are a no from me.

Hermione x Harry

4/10

I don't hate it but I don't like it either. I think they're the kind of people who would try dating each other because they're so close and then after like 3 weeks they break it off mutually and become lifelong bestfriends. With that being said, in a world where Ron and Ginny don't exist I could see Harry and Hermione getting married for the marriage benefits.

19) Tell me a story about your writing journey. When did you start? Why did you start? Were there bumps along the way? Where are you now and where are you going? Once upon a time there was me, a girl who wanted to give her best friend a special gift, a story. Since my friend unfortunately couldn't be at school for weeks on end Istarted writing her a story. With no clue as to where it would all go, a little bit in the style of both our favourite Y/A books (we shared a love for horses & Alanna/Tortall, books that were hard to find when we grew up.) The story was never finished, my friend thankfully returned to school and recovered from her illness and the handwritten pages have moved along with me to wherever I lived and are still in my desk as I write this. A second attempt at writing stories begun when school was finished and I lived abroad for a year. Living with a family from a completely new and different culture to my own made me a collector of local myths and fairy tales. They are about Djinn and nights spend at the desert, camels and gold, mountains and the sea. Recipes for making bread from flour and water 💕, baked in the sand with scapwood and dried cameldung (it tasted great, better than it probably sounds). These words are also in that same drawer and then University put a stop to writing. I still read a lot and somehow always thought one day I'd write some more. Flash forward years and years later and the world was turned upside down by Covid. Suddenly I was homeschooling my kids, seeing as my work (I'd just started freelancing) was cancelled due to all the uncertainties. A blessing in disguise as the free time allowed me to follow an online course in creative writing; very low key but it was good fun. And since the library was closed as well I somehow stumbled upon fanfiction when searching for e-books online. I wished I'd discovered it years before, but better late than never;-)

It's actually funny you're asking this because your stories were amongst my favourite jily (and partly the cause of my current love for them -bordering on obsession for the Marauder era). Reading TLE and finding the Tumblr page of @chdarling where she states "They said to write the book you want to read. I wanted to read a four-book series about Harry Potter's dead parents and their friends." my first thought is that we're so lucky she wanted to read that and shares this story with us. the words stuck and I started to write in my notebooks again. The @jilychallenge looked fun and a way to push myself to write and post something and that's how this started.

Bumps in the road are finding time to write, trying to not compare yourself by others (as there are so many talented and great writers in the fanfiction world alone). Some days I wonder why I'm trying this in English. It's not about exposure to me but there's something that just makes English fit better in my mind to the stories that I want to tell. It would just be very strange & awkward even to write those in Dutch. But at the same time its difficult enough to write a story or a scene without complicating it by trying to do this in a second language. So some days I hate myself for thinking this was a good idea.

I'll wrap this up before my answer lingers on for another mile. To me the story of my writing journey is a WIP and I hope where I am now is not the end of the story;-) but just like I don't always know where my story is going to end up I definitely have no idea where writing is going to go.

I think I'll first just do it some more ;-) ❣
