What is microfiction? It is a work of fiction of extreme brevity that still offers characters and plot and is readable in one sitting. Micro fiction typically ranges anywhere from 100 words (on the shorter side) to 300 words. This piece was definitely a challenge as the genre, action, and an assigned word must be used within the story within a 100 word limit. My assigned genre was fairytale and/or fantasy, the action was sawing, and the assigned word was relief. This is my first time trying to write microfiction. While tough, as I had to constantly cut the fat from my writing, it was extremely satisfying to complete and I am happy with the end result. I even got a new book intro out of one of the drafts. All in all, I went through 5 drafts before I managed to nail it down. Please give it a read and let me know what you think. Dear Modern Poetry,

What happened to vernacular that used to make women swoon? The sensual waltz between pen and paper. Lips and syllables used to be so erotic that hearts exploded in ecstasy. Words use to take us deep with in ourselves and go salsa dancing with our defiance, father opinions and lead us into rebellions. Listen, There’s nothing but a silence with a resonating hum of electronic affairs between hand and screen. We’re holding matches to our tongues and getting high off empty jargon. I want to tango with your chaos and be seduced by your madness. But where are all the story tellers? Does no one chase the thrill of the slow intoxicating decent into alice’s abyss. Where are all the poets and the artists? Does no one care about the blossoms and their turquoise hue? Does no one notice the way the sun sets ,casting shadows in the east devouring another day? Who will capture the way it illuminates the sky with a cotton candy glow? Does no one care about the humming birds or edgar allen poe? Does no one see the beauty and the crazy or revel in the chaos? Where are the kids who walk slowly in the rain or inject the smell of fresh ink upon a crisp brown parchment into their viens? I need another Diego Rivera! Another Rockefeller controversy! Abbreviations and acronyms are not as sensual as body language not as seductive as a human touch and everyone is going threw withdraw, brief exchanges of limited characters will never satisfy the craving for flesh against flesh. William Blake would not nurture his poison tree rage with abbreviated expressions or tiny pictorial characters with tinsil expressions. I’ve been to all the coffee houses and heard all the modern poetry. If I hear one more description of a woman’s womanly curves – what does that even mean – I may set fire to myself and take the world with me. Shakespeare is rattling his chains as he gazes into the eyes of his greatest creation watching it sprout fur and arch it’s backs as it drags its fits upon the ground. I need to see conviction and thrive on your private thoughts – don’t reserve your whits! Harvest it with your resentment and nourish it with your rage! real ambition ,raw emotion isn’t satisfied with being hung above a couch .I need another Jackson pollock. I need another anksy some one anyone who will remind me of my wounds the mad man who will take a paintbrush and a pencil to war. Where are the storyteller’s, the artists the poets? Does any one care if we’re forgotten ? Does anyone care about the children? Everyone is all so interconnected and miserable at best. Were signing up for dreams and praying for the best. I need another Ray Bradbury, I need another Canterberry Tales, I need another poetic seduction. You can keep all the remakes and netflix reinstallments, I’m holding out for more than a temporary connection.
