13 and 30 for angst questions!!
Ask meme
13. What does it take to make your character cry?
Not much, Lily is a very emotional person, so anything from kind gestures to small goodbyes is enough to make him very emotional. But for big long cries it is a bit different. There's the obvious ones such as losing an alley or loved one. Having to say goodbye to his sibling for a few months of being unable to see them, or seeing someone for the first time after having parted ways for years, believing you would never see them again. But time spent self-reflecting often leads him to self doubt and regrets, making him susceptible to crying too, things like not being good enough. The two times Lily cried the most was when he lost a loved one. The first time was finding his mothers corpse among the other villagers after safe emerging from their hiding after an Imperial attack. The second time was after The Vault and seeing Haurchefant give his life so Lily could live. Two things that has seared a memory into Lily's brain, leaving a burnt trail behind that will never go away.
30. What makes them feel safe or secure? What makes them feel insecure or unsafe?
The embrace Haurchefant was able to provide was the first time in the years after losing his mother he had truly felt safe again. The warm feeling of Haurchefants body, the sound of his heartbeat and the gentle smell of the faded perfume and the distant smell of burnt wood from the fireplace was a feeling he would never forget, not now, not ever. Being nestled up in a fluffy bed besides his dear lover and friend, was a comfortable feeling, a feeling like everything would be okay. Another thing that makes him feel secure is star gazing. Lily often does it when distressed or in the need of relaxation. The thought of the starts being a guiding path for those who don't know where to go is a comforting feeling. The vast universe, yet even on Etheirys he would never truly be alone.
Large open fields or the sound of clanking metal and heavy footsteps is something that can quickly send this viera into an alerted state. Past traumas and painful memories surface immediately and cause him immense stress and anxiety which are hard to soothe. Insecurity can be caused by various factors, like overly friendly people and those who're eager to get close to him, yet he will keep on being nice and smiling, despite wanting to do nothing more than run away.

thinking about that post of people assuming ao3 has an algorithm and also about how bonkers persistent the view is that ao3 is social media lite. like with startling regularity I get comments saying something along the lines of "it's probably weird to comment on a fic this old--" no it isn't!!!! this is an archive I am literally just assuming you searched for a selection of specific tags or sorted by kudos or looked back on my pseud or any other number of completely normal ways to use an archive site ?? kill the tiktok ghost in your brain and comment on old stuff it's NOT weird

EVERY SINGLE DAY there are MILLIONS of characters in their late 20s who get falsely accused of being father figures to teenagers when in reality the description of "weird older cousin" or "step-sibling that moved out before you were born" is 1000000x more apt

Far worse, in my opinion, than the famous “he wouldn’t fucking say that” is “he WOULD fucking say that, as part of his facade, but you seem to think he would mean it genuinely”

Reblog for a larger sample size!
No "show results", if you're not a fanfic writer just be patient.
I saw a post about an anon saying it was embarrasing to have an ao3 account in your 30s (it's absolutely not), so I want to do a poll and see what the age range actually is.

Character design asks: night!
Ask meme
Nightwear
During the day, the streets of Ul'dah are bathed in the scorching rays of the sun, yet shelter is easy to find but the heat hard to escape. But when night falls, the temperature falls with it and the scorching hot city turns bitterly cold. At least according the Lily. Having grown up surrounded by the warmth of Golmore Jungles warmth, getting used to Ul'dahs cold nights had taken a while for Lily who was bad at dealing with cooler climates. A soft pair of wool woven pants would keep his legs warm and a warm long sleeved shirt of similar threads was enough to keep him warm during the cool nights. Alongside that, a blanket stuffed with soft weathers to maximize comfort. "Aren't you... aren't you going overboard big brother? Do you really need... all that?" Layla, one of his younger sisters, said accompanied by a sigh. It wasn't unusual for them to see their brother dressed like he was going to sleep in minus Celsius degrees, but this was the first time she had actually seen his bed since he tended to keep his chambers closed off. It had more or less just become rule that no one entered Lily's bedroom, but seeing the door open and her older brother bundled up in a bed filled with pillows and blankets was a bit too much, no? "But the nights get cold and I don't want to fall ill, aren't you sleeping in way too little?!" Lily said and quickly sat up, his face adorning a small pout as he looked disapprovingly at Layla, who let out another sigh. She wasn't dressed lightly according to most people. Light, but long pants and a short sleeved shirt, neither made from as heat retaining materials as what Lily was wearing, but still warm enough to keep one warm when the temperature hit 15C. "No, I'm not, but now that I know where most of the blankets have gone I'll go back to my room. Let's buy some new ones tomorrow," she flashed him a small smile before closing his door. Throughout their time living in the house, Layla had bought blankets for use around the house, but much to her dismay, they kept disappearing and none of her younger siblings knew where they had gone, but knowing they were in her brothers bed, keeping him from getting cold, was enough to not make her upset about this little incident.

Ao3 is actually massively culturally important and very very good at being what it is. I’m so serious when I say that ao3 needs to be protected as the anti censorship, by fans for fans, nonprofit, volunteer run, expertly designed archival site that it is. You don’t have to read or like fanfiction to understand that on principle, ao3 is a site that should be defended.

Please, for the love of god, please don’t be this person. No matter how long it’s been since an update, no matter how many unfinished stories are sitting on their account, no matter what - do not be this person.
Not only is it insanely rude, but you also do more damage than you think be being such a self-entitled ass about something someone created for free and for fun. “This author” can see what you say.
RIP decency indeed.
