@ghostbatweek ghostbat week day 3: different first meeting (open for better quality)
i had this idea where talia and khoa's positions were reversed during batman: the knight.
au: khoa sought out the league for training first, and ra's convinces (male manipulates) him into staying (getting adopted). meanwhile, talia ditches the league for her own "self discovery" journey, meets bruce, and ends up travelling around the world with him (she follows him and he is incapable of getting rid of her, sry bruce). they end up at the league of shadows where bruce sees the "son" of ra's al ghul and falls in love at first sight :)

Star Trek is never mentioned in Stranger things so headcanon that Steve grew up watching it (he has a youngish great-aunt who took care of him when he was baby Steve), utterly convinced Kirk and Spock are married, also convinced it's old lady tv. She took him to Star Trek: The Motion Picture and like. Fifty percent of the audience was older ladies. She had zines and later gave them to him.
Dustin finds out Steve is what one could consider a Trekkie when Steve offers to take them to see Star Trek IV The Voyage Home in theatres, and he flips because, Steve, you like something nerdy!!
And Steve's like 'no?? I like an old lady tv show? Kirk takes his top off like every episode and it was on during the day for housewives. My auntie was really into it and I watched with her and she gave me her little star trek fanclub newsletters. Basically everyone working on those were women. Idk man, maybe you like something mundane.
He attempts to recruit help but everyone agrees it's very nerdy to have fanzines from the sixties and seventies of star trek and Steve is like whatever I like the romance!! To which everyone is also confused because romance is never really a big part of it?? Kirk is a ladies man, sure, but it's not super romantic? And now it's Steve's turn to be confused because 'Kirk and Spock are Vulcan married!! They got married when Spock had Pon Farr! They do the weird Vulcan hand kissing thing!! Obviously they are soulmates and obviously I would scour the galaxy for you, Robin, but I also very much do not want to make out with you which is what Kirk and Spock do when they touch hands!'
Everyone is like what the fuck are you talking about? Because Steve is a Spirk truther lmao.

weird things in the SATA book that I keep thinking about but I don't know what they are supposed to mean
Ann-Margret being perhaps the most Dolores Dei-like
Maj being an unplanned pregnancy that "deformed" Ann-Margret, how Charlotte says she wouldn't give the peaches of immortality to her yet because she is too young, her sisters not bringing her to take cherry speed or giving her alcohol, the girls buying only three meat piroshkis, seemingly leaving her out of some things, yet she disappeared too, how the only trait about her is that she is dressed as a fairy godmother/angel and sits on Tereesz's shoulders. The older sisters and their mom have some traits that resemble Dolores Dei (blond with green eyes, politician, peaches, freckles/birthmarks, references to ancient times, etc) but Maj only shares the blond hair and white clothes. like it feels like she is the odd one out. And she is the one who says that the time is going wrong.

Hello, shippers.
Do you want a hella complicated ship?
A ship with so much hate between the parties it's unbearable?
A ship where the characters desire to destroy each other to a fault, but meanwhile they'll go and have way more tension than they should?
I present...

i keep feeling like. there's something parallel between rose and yaz's endings. maybe parallel isn't the right word -- but i keep wanting to draw comparisons, i think because they're two characters who really defined specific doctors and for whom it's basically confirmed the doctor returned their (romantic) feelings
(they're not the ONLY ones who fit this description, but i'm in no way qualified to talk about clara or even river, so bear with me)
it just feels. i don't know. rose never leaves on purpose. she is separated from the doctor, forcibly, every single time. the doctor sends her home, or she gets stuck in an alternate universe, or the doctor leaves her in the same alternate universe. every single time, she fights to get back to the doctor. the writers had to create a perfect happy ending for her (half-human version of her doctor who'll age along with her, in the alternate universe where her father is alive) because otherwise she wouldn't stop fighting to get back to the doctor, and the show can't have that. the show needs to move on. we need rose to fade into the past.
i haven't seen all of yaz's episodes, but her arc seems very similar from the limited amount i've seen. she keeps fighting to get back to the doctor. she's in love with the doctor, and the doctor basically confirms returning her feelings, albeit in a very stilted, hesitant, doctor-y way (compare "imagine that happening to someone you--" with "and if i was going to, believe me, it would be with you").
but when yasmin's doctor regenerates... yaz is just expected to. step away, go back to living her life, never see the doctor again. kinda like the abandonment that most companions have ever experienced -- getting dropped off once and then goodbye forever! -- except with more of the onus on her. the show has to move on from rose's era, so she gets dumped on a beach. the show has to move on from yasmin's era, so yaz has to accept that the doctor is going off to die alone. she has to make her peace with that information.
i don't know. i think yaz's ending is trying to go hand-in-hand with graham and ryan's purposeful exit -- it seems like the chibnall era tried really hard to have Not Terrible endings for companions. which is very admirable! but honestly? yasmin's ending feels crueler than most, including rose's. yaz was in love with the doctor. the doctor reciprocated those feelings. they should've gotten their equivalent of s2-era 10rose! she should've gotten a chance to stay with the doctor through their regeneration, the way other love interests have been able to (s/o to river and clara!).
i know this is because of the limitations of the show. bad ratings meant chibnall left after only one regeneration, and new incarnations of the show rarely bring in characters from other eras.
but i'm still very sad for yaz :( like yes, she wasn't just dumped on the curb without warning. but she was still expected to say goodbye to someone she loved, knowing that person was dying, and not say a word of protest. if the previous history of the show is any indication, she's never going to see the doctor again. she doesn't get a half-human version of the doctor to live out her days with, and she's not "allowed" to fight to get back to the doctor, either, due to the way the show's structured (but also the way the doctor talked about them saying goodbye). she has to live the rest of her life knowing that the doctor is out there, perfectly capable of visiting, and the only reason they won't visit is because yaz is from a specific time of their life that they've moved on from.
i know she has the companion support group. and i know she'll move on! she's yaz. she's strong and self-actualized. she'll be okay, eventually. but she has to be okay, you know? she has to learn to live without the doctor. rose never had to do that.
it just makes me sad :(

I've been noticing that, in like fic and analysis and stuff, sometimes people paint yaz as an adrenaline junkie who loves travelling with the doctor for the thrill and danger of it, and that she will throw caution to the wind or take risky gambles for the rush of it paying off. I don't 100% agree with that interpretation of her, but I think I know why it happens.
Number one: she's very much a mirror to the doctor, and the doctor is often painted as an adrenaline junkie who can't stand boringness and is sorta hooked to the danger of her lifestyle (which, yeah, she is, especially 13 with her tendency to taunt villains)
And number two: the other big doctor mirror, Clara, was 100% painted as an adrenaline junkie who gambled with her own life (and lost). And it's easy to portray yaz similarly, because they go through similar (but very different) arcs of becoming more doctor like.
Imo Yaz is much more into the travelling and saving the day for the responsibility of it all, for feeling useful and capable and good. Her complaining about not having more interesting jobs as a cop wasn't her wanting more danger, it was her wanting more responsibility, she wanted to be important and helpful (that's the entire reason she became a cop, to help people like she was helped). And that's reflected in her arc, what she wants out of travelling with the doctor and what she gets out of becoming The Doctor. She learns to fly the TARDIS, she becomes capable and confident, able to hold her own in the past and lead her own companions. and in the end she rescues the Doctor herself with a plan SHE came up with, and she can help bystanders too (I love the blink and you'll miss it moment in potd where she's helping injured people on the space train).
To bring back the Clara parallel, because I like looking at our two big "become the doctor" arcs next to each other. Clara also got what she wanted/idolized in The Doctor out of her arc, she got the bravery and the boldness, and the ability to bluff and cheat and gamble. And the rush of the freedom of time travel. But I don't think she ever learned how to fly the doctors tardis, because that wasn't what she needed.
Tbh I think their different approaches to being/travelling with The Doctor can be summarized with Clara's "I do have a hobby, it's you by the way" vs yaz introducing herself via her title to dan and vinder (former pc with hallamshire police)
To Clara it's a game, a hobby, a thrilling way to live. To yaz its a calling, a profession, a life's mission. (Although, she definitely has issues with losing herself in that job at her mental/physical expense. Ex: her self neglect over that ten months trying to learn how to use the TARDIS and save the doctor )
