do you ever wonder, even with how fucked up it already is, if milligan sanitized his story for the kids

#on one hand show curtain seems a lot more....#less the type to straight up torture? like his reaction to the straitjackets and all #he's the more type to convince himself he's doing them a kindness #even as what he's doing is actually arguably worse #but its like. you know. mental manipulation/brainwashing.#ANYWAY but like on the other hand #a) whatever the case unless milligan is lying/exaggerating which seems very unlikely to me #milligan WAS tied up and interrogated--could be like hildegarde billingsley not too alarming right?--BUT #he was also hit/beaten #and 'what do you remember? what do you remember?' while being hit is pretty different than the interrogation of hildegarde who was all #loopy. and plus their techniques have probably developed and smoothed out over the past decade #b) i have this little idea in my head that i havent properly developed into a fully rounded thing #maybe once curtain DID have more vicious henchmen #like mccracken. and maybe it went too far and he learned his lesson #or maybe it just made him a little uncomfortable and he ended up phasing them out (or making them helpers which. actually constitutes some #worrying issues now that all the helpers have been freed/remember everything)#and now he has people like jeepers #ANYWAYwhatever the case #milligan describes something already pretty horrifying #waking up with a metal contraption on his head. strapped in #being hit and interrogated and chained and jailed #escaping . running. falling off a cliff into the ocean #barely getting to shore alive #living off moss and nature #being treated like garbage on the streets--shunned and unbelieved #do you ever think it might have gotten worse than he said? things he wouldn't have told a group of kids?#he still told them most of it didnt sanitize it entirely bc he wanted them to understand the danger & not treat them like idiots #but like. what if. what if #milligan wetherall #the mysterious benedict society

sad: falling out of a hyperfixation

tragic: watching your beloved friends and mutuals fall out of the hyperfixation while you're still in it

#oughhhhhhh #this is about the dca fandom but also about every other strong fixation ive had over the years lol #i know it's normal and inevitable esp for less popular works or minor characters with little canon content #and there's nothing wrong with smaller communities of course those rock #but there’s just something special about getting into something at the same time as a lot of other people all at once #and existing in this chaotic fandom space that's just bursting with creativity and passion #i've been in fandom spaces for as long as some of you have been alive and i've only come across that sort of unbridled joy like #a handful of times at best #it's just a heartbreaking feeling to see real lightning in a jar fandoms like that wither away as people drift away #(understandably so!)#anyway don't mind me i'm just having thoughts #musing about fandoms past as well #that i too eventually moved on from but remember fondly even if im not active in anymore #also my music just aint hitting right so im just sitting in silence which makes me more Contemplative(tm)

The Justice League have a problem, one that needs some level of knowledge and expertise of a being from the Infinite Realms to give them a better chance of actually solving this problem.

However.

Every ghost they have summoned, without fail, took one look at Constantine. Squinted (yes, squinted). Then decided to go back to where they came without a word.

This. Would have been useful, nice even. If it was a situation where they needed the summoned being of a cult to head back to where they came without a fight.

But alas, that is not what is happening.

The Justice League, obviously, ask him why the ghosts keep fleeing back to their Realm at the sight of him, but Constantine can't answer because he genuinely has no idea why they keep leaving when getting a proper look at him.

So they keep trying and they do find some success in it. They summoned a boy, most likely older than he physically looks yet it still puts some of them off because of, well.

You know.

A boy with white hair and toxic green eyes. The boy stops short, as if not expecting to be randomly transported to somewhere else, takes a look around the room, then the Justice League. His eyes settle on one person.

Constantine, in particular.

He squints (Why do all of them squint? Nobody knows) and then a sudden looking of realization passes on his face. Different from the looks of vague fear and genuinely want to not involve themselves any further, his face held slight disgust and a heavy amount of disappointment.

Thankfully, he didn't leave immediately after that.

Constantine asks what's with the look on the ghost boy's face, the ghost boy in question squints even further. Stares at Constantine for a moment or two, buries his face in his hands and brings his knees to his hand and groans out.

"He could've done so much better."

so much happened in this whole episode but i’m still on fig infiltrating ruben’s dream, making it look like the place where his friend was murdered, and then disguising herself as kipperlilly & repeatedly saying different variants of “somebody needs to take the fall for this, and it’s not going to be me. it’s going to be you.” while adaine as the elven oracle shows up next to her. can you imagine waking up from that, the idea of a horrible truth being pinned on you by your friend to save her own skin while the personification of fate and destiny stands there, almost as a promise that this is GOING to happen to you. we don’t even know if this kid is guilty. my god.
