Hi! When did you get into hq? Have you had trouble with waning interest over time, or how do you keep your passion fresh?

hi!! i first watched haikyuu at around the end of 2019, where i just binge watched all of season 1-3. i enjoyed it a lot and thought it was really really good, but somehow i didn't get into it then. i just kind of said "oh they weren't kidding about it being good", and didn't engage with or create much fancontent. (a couple of my friends liked it, one of them even started playing vball because of it in hs)

when s4 came out i watched the first few episodes as they came out but didn't actually keep up with it all the way!! i only ended up finishing season 4 sometime last year.

around 2022, my brother wanted to find an anime to watch with our family, and i thought haikyuu would be a good choice (especially for my mom) since i thought it was very wholesome, exciting sports fun with good characters. while i was rewatching i was one again like "hey this is really good" and i made this blog to post occasional drawings. this time i was more invested since i noticed more characters the second time around, and i was like oh there's a LOT of funny little guys in here

then i started doing 1hqaday on a whim after seeing some prompts for 15 and 30 day challenges, soon after finished s4 and read the manga and got VERY invested! (also i only started REALLY liking akaashi here lol) also i think having to find references for a whole bunch of characters and thinking about their significant moments while drawing them made me appreciate each of them more, and haikyuu as a whole.

compared to a lot of people id say im still relatively new to actually being a part of the fandom so i haven't dealt with much waning interest in my current phase (i dont count since the beginning since i wasn't originally that invested), but in the past i tended to cycle through main interests every year or so. haikyuu still seems to have a lot going on though, and i have SOOO many ideas i haven't drawn yet that i hope ill be able to stick around for quite a while!

Hello! Which of the hq guys do you think would be really into all those true crime/crime drama shows/podcasts/books/etc?

Ooo, okay, okay. I love true-crime so much. Some of the Haikyuu boys I just know would be true-crime sluts:

First of all, Matsukawa. He loves to watch shows like Disappeared and try and finish off the story with what he thinks happened. On the other end, he loves cold cases reopened and watching them finally find the killers even after 30+ years. Sometimes when he’s cooking or even driving he’ll turn on a crime-show podcast and listen to the stories. He’s the guy who knows a few too many facts about serial killers, but you adore him for it. He’d love it so much if you would join in on it with him and watch the shows as well. 

Ushijima would enjoy watching crime shows with you. He would inwardly try and figure out who the killer is before the episode ends. He would also enjoy listening to podcasts if you were into that sort of thing. I don’t see him necessarily getting into them alone, but when he’s with you he’s always down to watch something and trade facts about serial killers. 

Daichi, as a police officer, loves to challenge his mind. Even sometimes watching cold case shows or Disappeared episodes can make him want to join in on the case. However, even with the older serial killers that are already dead, he loves to listen to facts about them on podcasts. He likes learning all that he can about the killers mind in hopes that it will continue to help him as an officer. Even though he isn’t necessarily an investigator, he likes to know all of the facts in case he’s ever faced with a tough situation. 

To add even more to his character, Suna loves to know all about serial killers; he listens to crime podcasts more than anything. He watches every crime show he can find. He finds them interesting, in fact he loves them nearly as much as he loves horror movies. He can binge watch a new crime show season for an entire weekend and still want to see more. 

You weren’t surprised to find out that Akaashi enjoyed true-crime and even fake crime shows. He likes to watch the news and learn about what’s going on, especially if it’s close to his home. He’s a cautious man, he makes sure he knows the dangers of the world and keeps himself and you safe. That, and he enjoys watching the killers get caught. 

Truth be told, you were shocked when Sakusa offered up a crime show on movie night. He seemed like he would detest those kinds of shows, but he seemed to enjoy watching the series. He enjoys true-crime as well, watching the killers get caught, watching cold cases and gloating quietly when they finally catch the killer. When he guesses who the killer is before they find out in the show, he boasts to you about how he “Told you that I was right all along.” 

Osamu is the kind of guy who loves listening to true-crime podcasts. Whether it be on cold cases, conspiracy theories about the recent cases, bringing family members and police officer guests onto the show to talk about what they might know. He likes to be on the inside of the cases, but he enjoys listening to them more than watching a show. Especially when it’s empty after hours in his shop and he can listen to them while he prepares for the next day.

That page of hinata looking back at a Kageyama that gave him the first toss ever before falling out of fever and exhaustion. Your tags were interesting could u pls break it down?? Is it a full circle of view from the top narrative or Kageyama being the first setter to give him a toss so a silent thank you?

Ngl I write so much about haikyuu and tumblr's search is so bad that I wasn't able to pinpoint the post you're talking about but i'm pretty sure it's about these panel from ch 364 during the kamomedai match. (if it's not, feel free to send another ask and i'll do my best to reply)

In a way it is a full circle moment, both for their partnership but also for Karasuno and where the two of them stand within the team? Hmm, i'l try to explain this.

So the panel on the left is the first time Kageyama's ever set for Hinata, back in ch 4 when they're practicing for the 3 on 3 match. And at the time, Kageyama was refusing to set for Hinata because well, Hinata sucks and Kageyama won't set for people who are unnecessary to win. But they're still together, practicing recieves at like 5:30 in the morning because they don't really have a choice but to work together and then this happens

And Kageyama- who has been frustrated this entire time because no one else around him understand, who struggles with being the only one who is always going for every ball with the same desperate desire- is inexplicably moved by this, by Hinata putting in this much effort and hurting himself for a ball that ultimately doesn't matter much at the end of a long practice when he's getting tossed to by a guy who doesn't even respect him. So finally, after like 3 chapters of refusing to set for Hinata, Kageyama finally does. And it's significant that he's doing it here when when Hinata's exhausted and just completed a decent receive and for once, not actually asking for or expecting a set (it's a bit of a challenge too: i'm finally giving you this but when you're in a terrible condition, do you still want it?; it's a bit of a plea: won't you show me again? that you'll try for volleyball, that you won't give up no matter how tired, no matter how hard?)

Back to the present moment, it's in some ways the same thing but upgraded, a measure of how far they've come that Hinata can make an excellent receive and Kageyama looks at him and says, nope not enough come here now and finish it, won't you? and Hinata does!! Because he will always rise to the occasion, always drag himself back up if it means he can spike and all of these are facts that are firmly entrenched in both of them now

Back then Kageyama could barely dare to hope that someone would ever be able to match him and now he knows Hinata will and look at the way he fucking revels in the knowledge of all that.

But there is something else that's changed too. Namely that it's not just the two of them anymore.

It's not just Hinata now that can rise to Kageyama's expectations, it's all of Karasuno. It would be soo easy for any of them to not jump at the end of the 6th set of the day after back to back matches but they do. All of them jump, all of them are here now, caring just as much about volleyball and putting in just as much effort and the team as a whole is in sync, they're all united in this desire and it's a measure of how far they've all come together too.

And with the look at the end,

I think it's one part that they just completed something really cool and with each other so they're like reveling in the moment together but also one part that Kageyama sees Hinata fall and he realizes what's happening before everyone else does because he already suspected Hinata's sick and because he's got this uncanny knack for reading Hinata.

Day 3 : Character That You Warm Up To

It's definitely Oikawa Tooru.

I used to hate him. A lot. He knows that he's not genius, so then he overcome that weakness of him by studying the team he play against. And he did it. I'm a huge fan of Karasuno in the first season so my hate was brought to the next level after Seijoh won the match. Just like when Seirin lost to Touou in KnB, but it was much more hurt.

But then, I started to learn the reason Oikawa doesn't want to go to Shiratorizawa, I learned that Oikawa even injured himself just to make him a better setter, he loves his nephew, he's probably Iwaizumi's biggest mental support and vice versa. There are actually a lot more kind and more human side to Oikawa that I started to think, "Oh, Oikawa isn't a bad guy."

(Actually Tsukishima is included but I'm feeling warm up to Oikawa the most)
