thought i’d share another thing i made here :’)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i started working on this thing back in january, as russian troops were gathering around our borders, and i got around to finishing it a couple months later, after they retreated from kyiv and my lucky family and i were able to get back home.
for half of the process i was asking myself, “is making this even worth it if it’s going to be bombed to ashes in a couple of weeks?” (the answer was yes); for the other half, i was asking myself how and why do you even make a house now that there are dead and gutted houses all around (the answer was “well, what else is there to do anyway”).
was aiming for the “small ukrainian granny’s apartment” vibe with soviet era “ugly 70s brown” color furniture and a bit of a witchy/magical realism touch :’) details + a bit of ukrainian folk trivia below!
featuring:
a little pot with a star in it, because stealing stars from the sky and storing them in pots for their evil little purposes is a classic ukrainian witch thing;
Tumblr media
eastern orthodox icons, because every respectable ukrainian granny has those in her house + massive church-sanctioned witch hunts were never really a thing in ukraine and a witch is likely to have as amiable a relationship with god and saints and angels as with chorts (demons);
portrait of taras shevchenko, adorned with a rushnyk, because, again, can not be a proper granny apartment without those;
Tumblr media
a blooming fern, because fern bloom is a Thing in ukrainian folklore (leads you to a hidden treasure, protects you from evil magic, brings you good luck, all that stuff);
a calendar booklet. it has recipes, farming + (dubious) medical advice, lame granny jokes, and shows February 25, because we’re still stuck in February 24 and hoping for the next day to arrive;
Tumblr media
a mysterious tiny door. that rune means “heritage,” and i thought that a witch’s inheritance would warrant a little spooky door to keep it safe (also, our heritage is precisely what russia is trying to take away from us right now, so the concept has a special meaning to me);
fashionable pink slippers!
Tumblr media
bonus: a CREATURE

Happy Earth Day!
Tumblr media
We share this beautiful planet with over two million other species, from wasps the size of a grain of dust to whales larger than an office building. Yet, many of these species now face extinction due to the ways in which we humans have modified the planet to suit our needs. According to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), 13% of birds, 21% of reptiles, 27% of mammals, 37% of sharks, and 41% of amphibians are currently endangered, and some estimates suggest that 28% of all species on Earth are at risk of extinction in the near future. Imagine you woke up tomorrow and more than a quarter of every plant, animal, and fungus, from the elephants at the zoo to the earthworms beneath the soil, simply vanished, never to be seen ever again. If we choose to continue treating our planet so poorly, this will become a reality.
Here at Consider Nature, we believe the best way to protect our planet is to arm ourselves with knowledge! Over the years, we have written many articles on some of Earth’s coolest, weirdest, and most-endangered species, in the hope of inspiring readers to step up to the plate and protect biodiversity. I hope you will spend a few minutes of your Earth Day today reading about some of the species we believe are worth saving.

Chapter 13 1000 Celebration Masterlist UP Masterlist
Reader POV
I opened and closed my mouth as Cassian knelt beside me leaning in and pressing his large hand to the Portrait. “Your mother?”
Cassian nodded, “We never knew where the Illyrian’s who killed her buried her…If they buried her. When I expressed to Az and Rhys that I wanted to build a home here, a place I could go to clear my head, I told them I wanted a place for her. So, she could be with me.”
A gust of wind whipped my skin raw causing a shiver to run down my spine, Cassian instinctively wrapped his wing around me to block the cold. “Why bring me here?”
Cassian’s gaze met mine, his hazel eyes full of guilt. “You know why.” I look down focusing on my hands. He gripped my chin and forced me to meet his eyes, glistening in the moonlight. “Princess, I have tried giving you all the gifts that money can buy. I have tried writing you a letter. Nothing seemed to get your attention.” I went to speak but he interrupted me, “I realized why. You’re scared. You trusted me with some of your deepest fears and I took advantage of that. I brought you here as my last attempt. If want to walk away after tonight. I won’t bother you anymore. But I figured there is one last gift I can give you.”
My heartbeat skyrocketed, “What’s that?”
Cassian grabbed my hand and pressed it to his chest where I could feel his heartbeat. “My heart, Princess. Let me be open with you. Let me give you mine, the way you gave me yours.”
Silence fell between us as snow began to trickle down, I kept opening and closing my mouth unsure what to say. I looked back at the image of his mother. “Tell me about her, Cass.”
“She was my favorite person in the whole world.” Cassian began and I inched closer to him, I told myself it was to use his body heat. I was a fucking liar. Cassian curled his wing tightly around me, “She taught me how to braid hair as I told you before. She was kind, she always put others before herself. All the village kids loved to be around her, she would make sure everyone was fed and had enough to drink. Everyone loved her.” His hazel eyes met mine, “You remind me of her.”
I blushed and looked back at the portrait and instinctively my hand reached out to his as he sniffled. He laced his hand through mine, cool bite of the leather around his hand biting into my skin. “So where was your father?” You looked back to the Illyrian, his smile not reaching his eyes.
“I don’t know. He abandoned my mom when she was pregnant with me.” I squeezed his hand, and he returned the gesture, “I have no idea who he is. At this point I have no interest in knowing. Any male who leaves a pregnant female alone, is not worth knowing.” We were silent for a moment, “I’m proud of where I come from. I’m proud of my heritage as an Illyrian. What I’m not proud of though is our ancient traditions. My mother had a bastard born child. The Illyrians are traditional and believe a woman should have a child within marriage.” I could feel the pit in my stomach growing, “She always wanted what was best and protected me. So, she made me flee. Where I had to fend for myself. Find my own shelter, my own food. Until one winter evening, Rhysand found me. The bastard made me come home with him, and his mom insisted I eat and get some rest. We have been together ever since.”
“What happened, to your mother? I know you said she died but…” I whispered; Cassian’s face morphed into sadness as he swiped the tears from my eyes. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t apologize, Princess. I like that you display your emotions so openly.” He places his hand down from my face. “After the blood rite, I returned to my old village. She was nowhere to be seen. I searched for her in every place I could think of. I knew in my heart, she was dead.” Tears streamed down his cheeks, but he didn’t go to swipe them, “I wished I would have been able to tell her I loved her. I wish I could have told her so many things, Sweetheart.” He released my hand and placed his palms over her eyes, “I just wanted her to be proud of me.”
Not being able to contain myself I turned to face him fully and straddled his lap, gripping his wrist I pulled his hands away from his face. His eyes met mine I pressed my forehead to his, “Cassian, your mother would be so proud of you.”
The general shook my hands off and gripped my waist, “Not this past week and a half she wouldn’t. He closed his, “Baby, I’m-“
I cupped his face and pressed his lips to mine. He whimpered as he kissed me back, pulling me closer to him. We broke away and he swiped a strand of hair from my face, “I forgive you.”
“Really?” He whispered.
I cupped his face and he leaned into my touch, “We have a lot to discuss. Cassian, I don’t want to be hurt again.”
“I will make this up to you for as long as I live.”
“This was a good start.” Cassian began stroking my back.  “You did give me the best gift tonight.”
“What’s that?”
I pressed my hand on his chest. “Your heart.”
“My heart has been yours to take.”  He buries his face in my neck and inhaling deeply. We stayed like that for a few moments, the cold not bothering us as we simply hold each other. He lifted his head, gripped the back of his neck, “Listen to me, you are amazing, beautiful, and strong. I have never once thought of you as weak. I am so sorry for what I said. But you must know, you’re it for me. I want no one else, so I’m keeping you, so long as you’ll let me.”
I smiled, “Does this mean I get to keep you too?”
“You never lost me, Sweetheart.” He brushes his nose over mine, I do have a confession.” My face must have looked panicked because he laughed. “It’s nothing bad, I swear. When Mor had brought Feyre back from the Spring Court, I told you I was heading to Windhaven for a week. I didn’t go to Windhaven. I came here.”
I tilted my head, “Why lie about that? Seems a bit…”
“Ridiculous?” I nodded, “I didn’t want you to know that I was coming here to tell my mother about you. How I met this amazing human woman, who was kind and gentle, yet not afraid to put even a High Lord in his place. How she walks in a room and my day instantly improves. She smiles and it feels like my heart is going to combust.” I wasn’t sure I was breathing anymore.  “I just wanted to share that with her.”
A shiver trails down my spine and adjusting his grip under my thighs he hoists us up as he stands holding me as though I weigh nothing, “Come on I still have one more surprise for you.” He walked us toward the cabin, and I peeked over his shoulder looking back at the memorial. A butterfly in a climate too cold landed on the frame of the portrait. Before I could acknowledge the little creature, Cassian opened the door and set me down.
I turned and I pressed my hand to my chest, the dining and living room were right where you entered the cabin, the kitchen to the right. Everything was bright and warm, though the dining room table with wildflowers and candles at the center and two plates with silverware. One plate I assumed was mine had a leather-bound journal. “Cassian, I have so many journals.”
“That one isn’t empty though.” I furrowed my brow and looked at him. “Go read it, I’ll grab our dinner.”
“Who did all the set up?”
“Azriel, he left right before we arrived.” I walked over to where the journal was and sat down as Cassian took both of our plates to fill. I opened the journal and found the book complete full. Flipping to the first page my breath hitched.
My Dear Princess,
Nothing pained me more than sitting in this chair unable to move and watch you walk away. Knowing that my anger was the thing that caused it. To see the tears in your eyes and to know that I was the one that put the sadness in your eyes has sat with me for hours now. So, I went into the village and bought this journal. I figured writing to you is the next best thing I have right now. Since I know, you won’t talk to me for a while. Gods you’ve only been gone an hour and I miss you so much.
I flip through the pages; some are fresh letters pages long. “Cassian.”
“Three days left with my thoughts. I figured I would share them all with you.” Tears welled up in my eyes. As Cassian set the plate down the aromas of potatoes and seared meat caused my stomach to rumble. “Hey, look at me.” I met his warm hazel eyes as his callous fingers kissed the nape of my neck. “I never want you to feel the way you did with Nesta, or Xavier. I want to be better. Because you deserve better.” He tapped the journal, “Read these, whenever you need a reminder, that you’re worthy of the affection you receive, or that you need to take care of yourself, or we happen to be apart, and I can’t be there to comfort you when you need it. I am no poet or author, but with you I have always been good at sharing my feelings, you made it easier to open up. This is my last gift for you…tonight that is.”
I leapt out of my chair and into his arms, “I don’t know what I did to deserve this, but I’m glad the universe led me to you, Cassie.”
His hand cradled the back of my head, as he kissed the top of it. “So am I.” He held me tightly before pushing me away, “Shall we eat?”
I nodded and both of us sat down and began to eat, we spent all evening talking about what we had been up to since I left. His hand had a permanent spot on my thigh, he would gently rub his thumb along my thigh, and I would smile. Once dinner was done, I offered to do the dishes of which he politely told me no. Then brought out a slice of my favorite cake for us to share. When it was done I yawned.
“Want to go to bed? I had the guest bedroom prepped for you.” I blinked at him.
“Why?”
“I didn’t want to assume we were sharing a bed tonight. I wanted to make sure you were comfortable.”
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. My mind went to Xavier and how if he were in this position, I would have had no choice of where I slept. I shivered, “Cassian, I want to stay with you tonight. Just sleeping.”
Cassian nodded. “Just sleeping.” He led me to his master room which was quite large and handed me a shirt to change into. “We’ll go back home in the morning.”
I yawned once more, “Okay.” I looked around, “Bathroom?”
He pointed to the door next to the one we entered. I smiled, reached up and kissed his cheek and headed to the other room to change. When I emerged, I pressed my back to the wall. Cassian’s shirt was off tattoos on full display. I bit my lip as I watched his muscles flex underneath the moonlight. I would have asked Feyre to paint this and call it, the General getting ready for bed. “Princess are you ok-ohh” Cassian stumbled as he turned and faced me, “Gods you’re beautiful.” My heart fluttered as his eyes raked down my body and my bare legs. One thing I knew was his eyes met mine once more.
I needed him.
Be Brave, Archeron.
I sunk to my knees. The general’s chest stopped moving, “Princess, what are you doing?” His voice was low and husky.
I began to crawl toward him, “I missed you, General.” He swallowed, the lump in his throat bobbed.  I stopped when I reached his feet. My hand sliding up his thick muscular thighs.  “I want to make you feel good.” I placed kisses along his pants his thighs twitch under my touch and when I reached the center of his thighs. His erection was pressing against his pants, and I licked over his clothed cock maintaining eye contact as his hand slides through my hair as he moaned.
“Princess, we don’t have to,” his eyes held seriousness, and something warmed my heart at his words.
“Cassian, I want to. Now take off your pants.”
The Illyrian didn’t argue as he pulled down his pants. I gripped his thighs as his cock springing free. He looked down at me as his pupils consumed the hazel in his eyes, barely visible. Sticking my tongue out I swiped up his shaft. “Fuck,” He groaned leaning his head back.
I paused my mind looming back to the conversation that we had regarding safe words, “We won’t need it…I don’t think, but Ruby. He met my gaze once more, “My safe word is Ruby.”
Cassian bent down kissing me, “Use it, everything stops immediately. If you can’t use that pretty little mouth of yours.”  He kissed my lips, once more. “One tap on my thigh tells me your getting close to your limit.” Another kiss, “Two taps and we’re done. Okay and I need you to be honest, Sweetheart. You need to tell me.”
“I promise,” I whispered and crashed his lips to mine.
He pulled away. “Good,” He was about to say something but that fell away as I closed my mouth at his tip, taking his length slowly. He moaned as he lightly tugged on my hair, “You really are trouble. We said just sleeping.”
I hummed in approval, taking him deeper my nails digging into his thighs as I flicked my eyes up to him. Pulling away to the tip I swiped my tongue over his slit. “Princess.” His nickname on his tongue caused my toes to curl.
Putting him out of his misery I began bobbing my head, his hand guiding me. He sunk deeper into my throat. “Sweetheart. I’m not going to last very long.” I picked up my paced, “Will you touch yourself for me, sweet girl.” I instinctively slid my hand down and massaged my clit, moaning as against him.
Cassian began thrusting, his pace sporadic and the sensation began to feel too much as I slipped my fingers into my folds. I tapped his thigh once. He slowed his pace slightly, “You, okay? Tap once if you are.”
I tapped him once. “Good Girl,” the praise shot straight to my core. He groaned, his grip on my hair tightened. “Fuck.”
I moaned continuously as I chased my own high when Cassian held my head in place as he found his release, “That’s it baby take it all.” His cum shot to the back of my throat and I drank it, greedily. “Now, come for me, Princess.” Sliding out of my mouth a trail of spit connecting my mouth to his cock, as my stomach tightened close to an orgasm, “You look so pretty, touching yourself, Cassian moved behind me and pulled my hand away.  I whined as he huskily said, “Allow me.” And his mouth was on my clit and his fingers sliding into my core.
“Cassian,” I moaned out as his fingers began to curl hitting that sweet spot, making stars appear in my vision. Cassian’s tongue was relentless on my swollen bud, but it was only when he pulled away to lightly blow on the sensitive bundle of nerves that I came all over his fingers.
The general kept moving his fingers helping me ride out my orgasm. He slowly withdrew his fingers, and I felt empty. Cassian walked over to wipe his hand on his old shirt. He walked to the bathroom while I stood. When he walked back out there was a rag in his hand pants back over his hips, “Get on the bed for me will you?” I did , and Cassian gently moved my thigh.
“Cassian, I can’t take any more.” I whimpered and met his eyes. His hazel hue irises held pain in them.
“Princess, I’m cleaning you up, I’m not...” He couldn’t find the words. He sighed. “I would never force you to give more than what you are willing to offer. I just want to take care of you make you feel clean before I hold your gorgeous body to mine tonight.”
Tears welled up in my eyes. “Fuck.” I covered my face, “No one has ever done that before.”
Cassian rubbed my exposed thigh soothingly, “Get used to it, Sweetheart. Me taking care of you after is a non-negotiable for me.” calloused fingers pull my hands from my face, so I must look in his gorgeous face, “Never expect to be treated any less than the princess you are.” He wiped the tears from my face.  “Especially when you’re in my care.”
“Cass-“
“Shhh, sweet girl.  I have you.” I nodded as he wipes the warm rag through my center cleaning me as tears silently fell from my face. Once Cassian was done, he tossed the rag, “Scoot.” He smiled as I moved to the opposite side of the bed. The general slid into the bed, and his arm snaked around my waist pulling me close. He pressed his forehead to mine and his thumb swiped against my hip bone. “Tell me what’s on your mind.” He whispered.
My eyes fluttered closed, “I missed being in your arms.” I yawned once more, “You make me feel safe.”
“I’m not letting you go anytime soon.” Cassian whispered, exhaustion coating his own voice.
“Please don’t.” And in a matter of moments sleep overpowered me.
Tumblr media
We walked into the town home together, hands clasped, smiles bright, the next evening and reached the dining room where the atmosphere shifted to something dark. “What’s going on?” Cassian queried.
No one answered his question. Looking over to Azriel his shadows were almost completely hidden his posture straight, Mor taking a sip of her wine next to him, her finger grazing his arm in languid strokes. Her hand slowly moving his hand around the nape of his neck twirling with his curls. Cassian led me to the two empty seats across from the blonde and the spymaster. Azriel’s face looked pain as Rhys spoke. “Glad to see you two made up.”
Cassian said something that I drowned out my gaze focusing on the two fae in front of me. I recognized the look on his face. It’s one that I had expressed too many times myself. Her touch was unwanted, unwelcome. I took a steadying breath trying to keep the rage I felt from spilling over. Azriel was kind and gentle and had always been kind. He won’t tell her to get off for those exact reasons. Memories washed over me at the sight of Mor, touching him.
I wished he would stop touching me. Xavier’s hand gripped my thigh, hiking my skirt. My orders were simple, sit and look pretty. What made that challenging is Xavier trying to expose me to everyone in Graysen’s armies as he did so. His mouth connected to my neck, and I closed my eyes and started to count. Something I had grown accustomed to when he would put me on display this way. Counting the seconds for his hands that were once loving, now grown cruel were off my body.
Voices bring me back to the present and my eyes locked with Azriel. Pain is there and Its as though I can see him counting himself until she got his hands off him. I took another breath.
Be Brave, Archeron. He needs you.
“Mind taking your hand off the Shadow Singer, Mor.” I quipped, and everyone froze the conversation long forgotten.
Mor quirked a brow, “Excuse me?”
“He’s uncomfortable with you touching him. Fix it.” I said with no room for argument in my tone.
“Or what?” Mor sneered gripping Azriel’s neck tighter. His face grimaced at her touch.
I grabbed the knife, grasping it by the tip I tossed it without thinking twice, the blade slicing her skin causing her to move her arm, just before it found purchase against the wall behind her. “Or next time I won’t miss. Read the room when someone is fucking uncomfortable with your hands on them. Azriel does not belong to you.” I snarled baring my teeth.
Mor rose to her feet, “Rhysand, Am I needed for you debriefing the love birds?”
“Go.” Rhysand said his voice even, but his eyes were distant as if he too was having haunting memories of a time when his body was not his to control. His eyes met mine, “We’ll talk about that stunt later.”
A cheshire grin appeared on my face, “Happily.” I looked at Azriel who was watching me in stunned silence. “I would do it again in a heartbeat.” I said maintaining eye contact with Az.
His shadows swarmed over him covering his face. I understood their need to protect their master and looked back at Rhys. Not ignoring the bump to my knee from Cassian as he kept his leg touching mine, a silent reminder here was there. “We go to the Hewn City in a week’s time.”
“Shit,” Cassian muttered.
I looked to my general and back at Rhysand, “What’s the Hewn City?”
Amren, who had been abnormally quiet this whole time, spoke, “A vile city where the Night Court Underbelly resides. Also lovingly referred to as Mor’s home.”
Rhys snorted at that sentiment, “Her father had thought He would be next in line. He was sorely disappointed to find out that wasn’t the case.”
“Why do we have to go there?” I asked.
Rhys looked at Cassian. “To get the Veritas Orb.”
Cassian groaned, “Shit. So, the meeting didn’t go well.”
As Rhys and Cassian started a discussion, I finally took a look at my sister. “Fey?” Her eyes met mine, her hues of blue swirled with emotion. “What happened?”
“We ran into Lucien on our way home.” I stilled. “He wanted me to come hom- to the Spring Court.” Her face paled and I gripped her hand. “Rhysand intervened at some point, but it caused me to write a letter to Tamlin.”
“Oh?”
Feyre smiled, “I told him I was never coming back and sent that over this morning.”
I smiled and squeezed her hand, “I’m proud of you.”
Feyre smiled, “Me too. Lucien was relieved to hear you were alive though. I never told you this when I got here. He was crushed when he learned about what happened. Light came back into his eyes when he found out that wasn’t the case.”
My smile faltered slightly. “I’m sure.”
Sitting in front of the fireplace on the chill spring evening I watched the wood kindle the fire, the wood popping every so often.
“You are a hard person to find.” My head snapped to the doorway to find Lucien leaning against the door frame. He was in a white tunic and tight hunting pants. He had pulled his hair up into a Bun to keep out of his face. The firelight danced across his dark tan skin but highlighted the scar over his left eye.
“Did it ever occur to you that I didn’t want to be found?” I glanced back at the fire. His boots clicked against the tile indicating he was coming toward me. He opted to take the seat next to me leaning to the cart and pouring himself a glass of amber liquid. I glanced over to him to see him pouring a second one and holding it out for me. “You have been noticeably absent too.” I whispered taking the glass.
“I’m sorry, Sunshine.” Lucien pressed his lips in a tight line. “I have been busy.”
“Well aware.” I murmured while sipping my drink. Lucien and I were not fast friends by any means. The nickname he called me once grated on my nerves, which was his reason for doing it. Though as Tamlin and Feyre’s relationship grew into something more, our rivalry suddenly ceased, and a friendship bloomed in its place.
Our favorite pass time being making fun at Tamlin’s horrible attempts at courting Feyre. The four of us walking through the warm spring sun, the flowers in full bloom Lucien’s arms looped in mine as we watched on as Tamlin stumbled over talking with Feyre. Lucien in turn would dramatically reenact, making me burst into laughter causing the High Lord and my sister to turn and glare. We hadn’t been able to walk together on the grounds since our return from Under the Mountain. Lucien particularly made himself scarce around Ianthe and I longed for him to take me to avoid her insufferable presence.
Lucien’s voice was quiet as he spoke once more. “Tamlin told me, I couldn’t take you. I wanted to.”
“Lucien, you don’t have to explain.” I let the burn of the alcohol coat my throat. We sat for a moment; the sound of the fire whirring was the only sound in the sitting room. “I noticed.” I could feel Lucien’s attention toward me, but I continued to look at the fire. “The way you tense when she walks into a room,” He stilled knowing who I talked about without ever having to use her name. “If you want to talk about it, you know where to find me.”
“I don’t want to talk about it.” Lucien clipped finishing his drink and pouring himself another.
“Well, if you just want to sit and brood about it…we can do that together too.” I sighed downing the rest of my drink. “Survivors have to stick together, right?” I looked at the red-haired male.
Lucien slowly met my stare, his russet eyes filled with sorrow. “Sunshine...”
Then the words began to pour out of my mouth before I could stop them. “His name was Xavier…”
“He is the only good thing in the Spring Court.” I said straightening back in my chair.
“Barely, he never stands up to Tamlin.” Feyre murmured.
“Feyre, you don’t understand,” I countered picking at my food, Cassian pressing his leg deeper to mine. Reassurance.
“Understand what?”
I glanced back at her, “How hard it is to regain your voice, when someone has stolen it from you.”
Feyre’s throat bobbed, “You managed.”
I placed my fork on the table and stood from my seat, ignoring the two pairs of Hazel eyes and one violet set, staring at me with concern. “Did I?” I walked away.
Tumblr media
Walking toward my room, a delicate hand gripped my arm and slammed me into the wall. Nails dug into my cheeks squishing them tightly together. I blinked and brown eyes and silky blonde hair came into my vision. “I’m going to make this clear.” Mor’s voice was cold and distant as I gripped her wrist trying to pull her off me. “I’m not fond of being made a fool” I tried to move she pressed her body against mine to keep me in place. Her eyes raked my face, and she tucked a loose stand of hair behind my ear. “I mean it would be a shame if something happened to poor sweet Feyre, as a result of your reckless actions.” I sobbed, clawing at her wrist and Mor cooed, “Oh, not so tough now are you. You’re such a fragile little thing.” She leaned in her sweet perfume filling my nostrils, “If I wanted to, I could-
“What’s going on here?” Amren’s voice rang through the hall causing Mor to freeze. “I would suggest letting her go, girl. Before her general finds you.” Amren crossed her arms causing her silver shirt that matched her eyes to rise to reveal a small band of skin. “Now, Morrigan. I don’t enjoy repeating myself.” Her voice was lethal, at this moment, I understood why she was Rhys’ second in command.
Mor released my face, not before she broke skin in some places. Glaring at me, “Stay in line, Human. You’re a lot more fragile than the rest of us.”
“That’s Enough, Mor.” My chest tightened to the sound of Cassian’s voice. Mor immediately took two steps back. “You need to go to the Hewn City. Rhys’ orders.” Cassian came into view, his wings tucked in tight, his siphons ablaze.
“Rhys can give them to me himself.” Mor pouted crossing her arms like a child.
Amren rolled her silver swirled eyes, “Go to the Hewn City. Maybe going to spend some time with your father will do you good.” Mor’s straightened but not before shooting me one more glare. She left not before bumping into Cassian’s shoulder.
Amren’s silver eyes gleamed at me, assessing, a smirk on her red painted lips “You are a fierce one, girl. You are not afraid to put someone in their place and you’re quickly becoming my favorite human I have come in contact with.” Her face fell slightly, “But tread carefully with Mor. She is not an enemy you wish to have; you’ll learn why when you meet who sired her.” She nodded her head toward me a silent goodbye and left Cassian and I alone in the hallway.
Cassian was on me the instant the short female made it down the stairs. He assessed my face for injuries, and his nostrils flared at the scratch on my face, “Stop.” I whispered.
His response came quickly. “No.”
“Cassian, I’m-“
“Don’t you dare say your fine when you’re trembling like a leaf.” I looked down to see my hands violently shaking. His hands covered mine to his steady fingers forcing mine to still.  “I’m right here, Princess.” He whispered.
“She threatened to hurt Feyre because of me.” I met his hazel eyes.
His expression darkened, “We should tell Rhys.”
I shook my head, “Can we wait? Maybe this was a one-time thing.”
Cassian sighed kissing both of my knuckles wrapped in his warm grasp. “I don’t like it. If it happens again, we tell Rhys. Got it?”
I nodded my head and Cassian released my hands to carry me in his arms. “Come on. We’re going to bed.” I leaned my head against his shoulder and allowed him to carry me to his room.  The scent of Leather and Sandalwood comforting me, so my eyes drooped closed. Cassian murmuring something I couldn’t decipher as I fell asleep.

Dream of the Endless is the prince of a small but wealthy and beautiful country. He’s not the oldest child so the crown will go to his oldest sister Death when his parents are going to die or abdicate one day.
He’s not important enough to rule one day but still too known to live an ordinary life. He grew up sheltered in a golden cage with certain expectations from his parents to live by. So he’s not surprised when one day his parents invite possible suitors for a lucrative wedding.
From Dreams perspective they leave him no choice but to flee from his own birthday party where he’s supposed to be sold off to the highest bidder.
And while his furious parents are busy firing his bodyguards Dream wanders through parts of the capital he’s never seen before.
He’s so high on the feeling of finally feeling free and unobserved for the first time in his entire life that he doesn’t pay close attention to his surroundings when he turns the corner.
Stumbling right into the arms of Hob Gadling.
Hob, who had spent the last ten years traveling and living abroad before returning home to finally settle down, maybe start a family of his own.
Hob, who never really kept track of the drama and scandals of the royal family.
Who doesn’t know that the beautiful - but slightly socially awkward and uptight - man in his arms is the most desired bachelor of his native country. And his prince.
But what he knows is that love at first sight most definitely exists because there’s no way in hell he won’t marry this dream of a man.
Needless to say that Dream spends the next week in Hobs tiny and barely renovated flat above the Inn Hob had recently bought. Half of that time he spends in Hobs embrace, the other half in his lap. Dream refuses to let his new love out of sight, clings to him, afraid Hob might find out about his family heritage and will try to get rid of him, trying not to get in trouble for hiding - and deflowering - the prince.
But eventually, on the eighth day Dream confesses he’s the prince everyone is so desperately looking for. The prince who’s supposed to be married off to a proper and, most importantly, rich spouse.
So on the ninth day Hob and Dream say yes to each other in an old chapel by the river, the only witnesses the priest and a tiny black cat who Dream takes home afterwards.
On the tenth day the royal family finds them and Hob finds out what he’s got himself into.
But looking at his gorgeous husband next to him he decides it’s all worth it if he gets to live the rest of his life side by side with him.

CHIRON IN YOUR ASTROLOGY CHART
Tumblr media
Chiron in astrology represents the "wounded healer" archetype, symbolizing areas of deep sensitivity and vulnerability but also where profound healing and wisdom can be found. When Chiron is placed in the houses of a birth chart, it indicates the specific life areas where these themes manifest. Here's a brief overview of Chiron's significance in each house:
1st House: The sense of self, identity, and physical body. Chiron here may indicate struggles with self-image, confidence, or health issues but also the potential for profound self-discovery and healing by embracing one's uniqueness.
2nd House: Values, resources, and self-worth. Chiron here may bring challenges related to financial security, self-esteem, or personal values. Healing may come through developing a healthier relationship with money and possessions or by recognizing one's inherent worth beyond material possessions.
3rd House: Communication, learning, and siblings. Chiron here may manifest as difficulties in communication, learning disabilities, or strained relationships with siblings. Healing may be found through improving communication skills, expressing oneself authentically, or reconciling past conflicts with siblings.
4th House: Home, family, and roots. Chiron here may indicate wounds stemming from family dynamics, childhood experiences, or a sense of belonging. Healing may come through creating a nurturing home environment, exploring ancestral heritage, or establishing emotional boundaries with family members.
5th House: Creativity, self-expression, and romance. Chiron here may manifest as challenges in creative expression, difficulties in romantic relationships, or issues related to self-confidence and self-expression. Healing may be found through embracing one's creative talents, pursuing self-expression fearlessly, or cultivating healthy romantic relationships.
6th House: Work, health, and service. Chiron here may bring health issues, perfectionism, or challenges in the workplace. Healing may come through adopting a holistic approach to health, finding meaningful work aligned with one's values, or practicing self-compassion and acceptance of imperfection.
7th House: Partnerships, marriage, and open enemies. Chiron here may indicate wounds related to relationships, partnerships, or issues with commitment. Healing may be found through developing healthier relationship patterns, learning to compromise and cooperate with others, or resolving past relationship traumas.
8th House: Transformation, intimacy, and shared resources. Chiron here may manifest as deep emotional wounds, trust issues, or difficulties in navigating intimate relationships. Healing may come through embracing vulnerability, exploring the depths of one's psyche, or transforming past traumas into sources of empowerment.
9th House: Philosophy, beliefs, and higher education. Chiron here may bring challenges related to belief systems, higher learning, or spiritual exploration. Healing may be found through expanding one's perspective, embracing a personal philosophy that resonates deeply, or engaging in spiritual practices that promote self-discovery and growth.
10th House: Career, public image, and authority. Chiron here may indicate wounds related to career aspirations, public recognition, or issues with authority figures. Healing may come through finding purpose in one's career path, reclaiming personal power, or integrating aspects of the self that have been disowned or suppressed.
11th House: Friends, groups, and social causes. Chiron here may manifest as feelings of alienation, difficulty forming friendships, or struggles with social acceptance. Healing may be found through connecting with like-minded individuals, contributing to social causes that align with one's values, or embracing one's uniqueness within social circles.
12th House: Spirituality, subconscious, and hidden enemies. Chiron here may bring deep-seated wounds, spiritual crises, or feelings of isolation and loneliness. Healing may come through spiritual practices, introspection, or connecting with the collective unconscious. Embracing compassion, forgiveness, and self-transcendence can lead to profound healing and spiritual growth.
Examples

I always wonder whether Batfam fans really get just how fucking rich the Waynes are. Like of course we shy away from thinking about the fact that we're talking Musk and Bezos money, and focus on how Bruce funds the freaking Watchtower and has what is functionally a high-tech military base and lab and the world's most expensive vehicles. But this is the one time you don't have to factor in the implications of wealth-hoarding, so there's nothing preventing y'all from understanding exactly how much money we're talking about here.
For instance, there doesn't seem to be any concept of how palatial Wayne Manor is, simply going by the outer facades of it that appear in the comics and movies. Or how decadent the lifestyles that accompany that kind of ancestral home. Alfred couldn't run that place on his own even if he had super powers, which is why even the movies occasionally show a rotating probably-temporary staff in the background. The house probably has like 3 hundred-foot pools. Their garden is a protected heritage park.
The Waynes are 10x richer than Crazy Rich Asians. They buy and wear the jewelry worth hundreds of millions that belonged to royalty. They own private islands. The art in the house alone is worth more than the GDP of a small country. They went to school with like every US President since Teddy Roosevelt and still think the Rockefellers are new money. They're personal friends with Beyonce and can get her to perform at private parties. They can rent out an entire three-star Michelin restaurant and fly out to one for every date. They have top-line penthouse apartments in every major city in the world. They can buy a luxury sportscar instead of hiring a vehicle anywhere they visit and then just toss the keys to the nearest person on their way out (Arab royalty is known for this appearently. There's been some very lucky parking valets in the UAE iirc).
Bruce is as rich as Ra's Al Ghul, regularly make social calls to heads of state and his family has a history of being king-makers. Every one of Bruce's children, from Dick to Jason to Cass, is poised to inherit one of the largest and most powerful empires in the world. That means every time Bruce adopts an orphan off god-knows-where, the entire global elite is thrown into consternation and horror. Even Tim is barely acceptable to these people because he doesn't have the pedigree. I don't follow the reboot comics so Idk if Duke is adopted, but it would be so fucking funny if he was because they'd react a lot like the British establishment did to Meghan Markle (except the family and WE would have Duke's back completely). As for Damian, the fact that he's not white would get him snubbed if everyone who's anyone didn't 100% know who Ra's Al Ghul is. And they're fucking terrified because, for maximum hilarity, they probably figure that Bruce doesn't.
I just find it incredibly fucking funny when I'm reading fics that the writers can only imagine Bruce and the kids's civilian privileges extend only to "big house", "a lot of cars" and "Gotham famous". Lol. Lmao even.
...
Edit: Explanation for people justifiably skeptical that Bruce could be rich as Ra's (scroll down)

astro notes: jupiter through the houses pt.2
Symbolizing wisdom, luck, and spiritual growth, Jupiter guides us through journeys of abundance and higher learning. As it rules Sagittarius and Pisces, and co-rules Pisces with Neptune, its reach extends to philosophical pursuits, foreign travel, and spiritual exploration. From its exaltation in Cancer to its debilitation in Capricorn, Jupiter's placement illuminates our beliefs, aspirations, and sense of justice. Throughout this exploration of Jupiter's journey through the houses, we unravel its transformative power and guiding light, embracing its blessings of prosperity, abundance, and divine guidance.
Jupiter in the 4th House:
With Jupiter gracing your fourth house of home and family, you are blessed with a deep sense of emotional fulfillment and inner stability. Your home is a source of comfort and sanctuary, providing you with a strong foundation from which to navigate the challenges of life.
Your emotional resilience and stability make you a pillar of strength for your loved ones, and you may find that you are able to offer wise counsel and support during times of difficulty. Your relationship with your mother is particularly close and nurturing, and you may find that she plays a significant role in shaping your values and beliefs.
Family gatherings and traditions hold special significance for you, and you may take great pleasure in creating a warm and welcoming environment for those you hold dear. You have a deep appreciation for the importance of roots and heritage, and you may find that you are drawn to explore your ancestry or preserve family traditions for future generations.
However, it's important to guard against the tendency to become too attached to the past or overly protective of your emotional boundaries. With Jupiter's influence here, there may be a temptation to cling to familiar patterns or resist change, even when it is necessary for growth and evolution. Remember to embrace the opportunities for expansion and growth that come from stepping outside of your comfort zone.
Overall, Jupiter in the fourth house blesses you with emotional security, familial bonds, and a deep connection to your roots. Embrace the blessings of home and family, and use them as a source of strength and inspiration as you navigate the journey of life.
Jupiter in the 5th House:
With Jupiter gracing your fifth house of creativity and self-expression, you possess a boundless imagination and a zest for life that is truly infectious. Your creative talents are vast and varied, and you may find that you excel in artistic pursuits such as music, theater, or writing.
Your love life is characterized by passion and romance, and you may find that you attract partners who share your love of adventure and excitement. Your children, if you have them, are a source of joy and inspiration, and you may take great pleasure in nurturing their talents and encouraging their dreams.
Creativity and self-expression are central to your sense of identity, and you may find that you are drawn to activities that allow you to express yourself authentically and freely. Whether through artistic endeavors or playful pursuits, you have a natural gift for infusing joy and positivity into everything you do.
However, it's important to guard against the tendency to overindulge in pleasure or become overly attached to external validation. With Jupiter's influence here, there may be a temptation to seek validation and approval from others, rather than finding fulfillment from within. Remember to cultivate a sense of self-worth that is independent of external recognition, and focus on expressing yourself authentically from the heart.
Overall, Jupiter in the fifth house blesses you with creativity, romance, and joyous self-expression. Embrace the blessings of love and creativity, and use them to infuse every aspect of your life with passion, vitality, and purpose.
Jupiter in the 6th House:
With Jupiter gracing your sixth house of health and service, you are blessed with a deep sense of compassion and a desire to make a positive difference in the world. Your work ethic is strong, and you may find fulfillment in roles that allow you to serve others or contribute to the greater good.
Your health tends to be robust, and you may possess a natural talent for healing and holistic living. Whether through physical fitness, dietary choices, or spiritual practices, you have a deep appreciation for the importance of maintaining balance and well-being in all areas of your life.
Your generosity knows no bounds, and you may find that you are constantly seeking opportunities to lend a helping hand or support those in need. Your compassionate nature and strong sense of social responsibility make you a valuable asset to your community, and you may find fulfillment in roles that allow you to advocate for justice and equality.
However, it's important to guard against the tendency to become overly self-sacrificing or perfectionistic in your approach to work and service. With Jupiter's influence here, there may be a temptation to take on too much responsibility or become overly critical of yourself and others. Remember to prioritize self-care and set healthy boundaries, ensuring that you are able to give freely without depleting your own resources.
Overall, Jupiter in the sixth house blesses you with compassion, service, and a deep desire to make a positive impact in the world. Embrace the blessings of health and well-being, and use them to create a brighter, more compassionate world for yourself and those around you.

bg3 companion camp habits
ft. astarion, karlach, wyll, shadowheart, lae'zel, gale & halsin
Astarion
Tumblr media
earliest to bed, earliest to rise. it leaves more time to sneak around at night. unfortunately for him that means lae'zel has him on hunting duty, in order to find something substantial for dinner the next day.
insures team tadpole camps within walking distance of some source of running water. if not running water, a lake; if not a lake, a pond. after tagging around with tav all day and coming home covered in blood, his daily soaks are sacred
despite actually not needing to sleep, his tent is the cushiest in camp: his bedroll is piled high with luxurious furs and silken pillows
trances with curlers in his hair. that coif doesn't maintain itself y'know, as much as astarion would like you to think it does
Karlach
Tumblr media
her tent is open-air in order to reduce the likelihood she catches it on fire overnight
simultaneously a super-light sleeper while retaining the the ability to fall asleep within five minutes in any given environment, on any given surface. ten years in avernus have honed those survival instincts into a sharp edge, and she can be up and ready to brawl in an instant
banned from contributing to dinner on account of infernal taste buds: the amount of chili powder she'd added to the group soup that one time almost killed shadowheart and made astarion get the night sweats for the first time in 200 years
her contributions to camp including anything involving copious amounts of hot water. unfortunately, this usually has her stuck on laundry duty with halsin
Wyll
Tumblr media
next to halsin and karlach, wyll's the most comfortable camping in the wilderness on a day-to-day basis. seven years as the blade of the frontiers meant wandering the sword coast looking for monsters, and not all of that was near civilization
crippling addiction to tea. picks up local varieties at every settlement the party passes through; it's what you see him swirling in that silver cup of his night to night.
while gale's in charge of dinner, wyll's in charge of breakfast. he's got a carafe of coffee on the fire when people start to rise, and there's always a pan of something delicious-smelling and ready to dish out by the time someone manages to wake up halsin.
he's had that ripped-up crop top he sleeps in since his teens, and it's been worth to that point of sweet age-soft. he has trouble sleeping in anything else at this point
Shadowheart
Tumblr media
doesn't need as much sleep to function at full capacity the next day: she's perfectly fine on five or six hours. whether that's a lucky genetic twist of shadowheart's genetic heritage or a blessing of shar is anyone's guess - this usually has her as the second one awake
tends to volunteer for first watch and uses that time to pray
has a bit of a second sense for finding good campsites: places with highly defensible positions, a fresh water source, carefully tucked into the shadows of natural glades or high rocks
has one of the more elaborate hair routines in the group, second only to astarion's curl-care. she and the vampire spawn have a silent agreement to assist with setup and share haircare products when necessary.
Lae'zel
Tumblr media
self-assigned camp commander (not camp mom - astarion tried to make a snide comment once and was glared down). her militaristic upbringing has left her the only one with enough organizational skills to insure the motley crew of team tadpole don't accidentally starve themselves to death in the wilderness
keeps an exacting inventory of what they have on hand, from food to spell-scrolls and spare socks and tadpoles in brain-jars, must to her chagrin. anything taken from the traveler's chest must be noted so she can keep track of what the team needs
created a chore chart. the chore chart is holy. it plays to everyone's strengths and evenly distributes labor. astarion once tried to fuck with it: he was left doing his own laundry for a week, much to his chagrin
as much as she'd like to brag about githyanki endurance, she requires an exacting eight hours of sleep to function. the rest of team tadpole insures she gets it, since nobody likes a grumpy githyanki
Gale
Tumblr media
self-assigned camp cook within days of joining team tadpole. to his surprise, lae'zel completely agreed
has a few cookbooks stacked among the piles of literature around his tent, including a dog-eared recipe book from mama dekarios. his travel spice-rack was an additional gift from her as well, one he covets with all his heart.
could care less about his lion's mane and mostly resolves to slicking it back with whatever oil or grease they have on-hand first thing in the morning, but takes exacting care of his beard
has a bad tendency to stay up too late sleeping, and is subsequently the last one to rise first thing in the morning\
Halsin
Tumblr media
doesn't even bother to set up his tent half the time, perfectly willing to spend the night in bear form. this has caused some confusion first thing in the morning when an actual bear wandered into camp one morning and wyll greeted it warmly, much to halsin's amusement
will grow goodberries to add to the morning's oatmeal or pancakes; secret weakness for coffee
tends to tackle laundry duty with karlach, mostly since the giant mountain of a druid is the best at actually toting mountains of blood-spoiled linens across camp.
assists with hunting duties, even if the meat he tends to bring backs is a little more roughed up compared to astarion's exsanguinated prey
bonus:
Tav
group oddball, usually ends up doing whatever odd chore lae'zel assigns them
unofficially in-charge of campfire entertainment, including breaking up fights between lae'zel and shadowheart over go-fish, or insuring astarion doesn't cheat during poker
the camp keeps meaning to buy them a tent. they never do. tav's been crashing around the campfire since the beginning, and they only actually get a tent once they have a significant other
not allowed to assist with dinner since the Noodle IncidentTM

He's come to find his way into a place where he can feel some sense of belonging. He's joined this year's Festival to reconnect with what he thought he had to live without. But what he actually finds is worth so much more.

You're not sure what to make of Min Yoongi yet.
But granted, you've only just met yesterday, where he'd offered you his quiet company to not make you feel so left out. You'd been thankful for that- but you also don't know if that action had any sort of meaning behind it, or if he'd been just nice to you.
Maybe dragonbloods are just like that? You're not sure. You are one, sure- but you didn't grow up with any of it. Your parents didn't really care about their own heritage very much, didn't teach you anything, and only recently, you got to connect with someone who's also a dragonblood. She works in the same department that you do, though remotely from home just like you as well, and she's pretty much your polar opposite; Bubbly, loud, and most of all- confident and proud of herself. She wears her heart literally on her sleeve, and has been taking you under her wing ever since you joined the company.
You became friends because you both coincidentally lived in the same city, and after she found out about your situation- that you kind of wanted to learn more about your own heritage but didn't know how- she took on the job, and basically paid for your entire trip here, into the mountains, saying that you'd need to reconnect with it all more than anyone- whatever she meant with that.
But now you're just so lost, and you don't want to cling to her and make her babysit you. That would just be unfair- and you can just socialize on your own, right? How hard can it be?
Very hard. Especially with all those intimidating dragons around.
So you just stay by yourself again, nod Soyoon off because she deserves to be with her friends and family for these festivities.
It all looks pretty fun already.
Even though lots of wooden structures are still being constructed, the day is mostly spent catching up for most, it seems like. So you'll just take the time to explore a little instead, maybe get an idea of the area for yourself, to find some spots where you could recharge your introverted social battery a bit.
Suddenly, you feel eyes on you. And as you turn around, the red-haired man you now know as Min Yoongi looks at you again, with his cat-like eyes and a soft, small smile.
Soyoon had told you that she actually knows him- and that you shouldn't be alarmed by his sometimes stoic face or harsh sounding words. She'd told you that he's a bit grumpy sometimes, but mostly a sweetheart with a severe case of resting-bitch-face, and that his dragonblood is just extremely strong, influencing a lot of his behavior and making him act a lot more on instincts than someone else would.
She'd also told you last night that he doesn't have a relationship currently. And that even his action of sitting next to you, and sharing some food with you, was something new, because he typically doesn't really make the first step towards anyone, rather waits until he's approached instead. It made you feel a little complimented to hear that- but at the same time, maybe he simply thought of you as pitiful.
So you turn back around after waving at him a bit awkwardly, instead deciding to watch the people constructing the wooden stages and booths. Though you can hear steps towards you only moments later, Yoongi appearing standing next to your bench with respectful distance. "Is it okay if I sit here?" He asks you, and you nod right away, scooting over a bit. "Thank you." He offers, and again, you just nod quietly.
This is awkward. He looks so good, seems so.. comfortably confident. His sweater looks awfully soft, and his posture is way more relaxed than yours.
"Soyoon told me it's your first time here." He says, not looking at you, probably not to make you any more nervous than you actually are. He seems really good at reading people, you notice. Maybe he can sense it, somehow.
"I think.. I don't know. I wanted to maybe try and re-connect with.. all of this." You shrug to yourself, looking at your feet. "I.. kind of want to belong somewhere. But it feels like I missed the chance long ago and now I can't." You sigh, watching how two people laugh together as they work.
"It can be intimidating to join a new group of people. Especially if you're not used to actively socializing." he comforts you, leaning back a little as he greets a young man with a nod. "But it's not too late at all." He tells you. "You've already made the first step by coming here. I'm sure you'll be fine." He reassures, and you nod after a moment, silence falling over the two of you for a good little while. But it's not truly uncomfortable - it's a simple company without actually needing any words.
And he doesn't seem to mind it either.
And suddenly, just as you've started to relax next to him, he speaks again. "Would you like to spend this festival with me?" He asks, now actually looking to the side at you.
Internally, you have to disagree with Soyoon on his alleged angry resting face now that you look at him; he looks nothing but kind to you, even without a clear smile on his face. He rather looks comfortable and relaxed than mad, really, so his gaze also doesn't intimidate you at all, giving you no problem with eye contact.
"Would you.. would you like to?" You ask instead, and he chuckles, corners of his lips now tilting up a little.
"I wouldn't have asked if I wasn't interested." He teases a little, and you can't help but smile now as well.
"Okay." You say because of that, making his smile turn a little bit wider, eyes warm as they rest on you. "...what does that mean?" You meekly wonder, and he laughs to himself, before he shrugs towards you.
"Guess we'll have to find out, hm?" He teases again, and you can feel your cheeks heat up.
Min Yoongi truly seems to be a charming dragon, a fire burning hot under his skin-
And it's starting to heat up yours too, without any need for physical touch at all.
What have you gotten yourself into?

AITA for telling my mixed race cousin the truth about her racial background?
This happened a few months back but continues to divide our family to this day, and I have my own regrets about it, so I thought it would be good to get some outside perspective.
My little cousin (we'll call her May) was privately adopted by my aunt 17 years ago. Her biological mom already had 4 kids at home, 2 of them special needs, and she was an unplanned pregnancy. But she was also deeply religious and against abortion, so she went to her (southern baptist) church for help. My aunt was a member of that church and was having trouble conceiving, so she offered to adopt the woman's baby and she agreed.
I know all this for a fact because my aunt asked my mom to come with her as emotional support when she met with the bio mom and dad at their home to talk more about the details. I was dragged along (8 years old at the time) and saw the bio parents myself. The mom was white, and the dad was black. I sat and listened to them talk about boring adult stuff and heard both the man and woman refer to May as "their baby". Then I got bored and went in the other room to play with their kids on the xbox.
Fast forward 17 years later to the present day and May has done pretty well in life. She's a straight A student with a 4.0 and wants to be a physicist. She knows she's adopted and knows she's mixed race (would be pretty hard to hide, since both her parents are whiter than mayo and she's obviously not). I never said anything about her being half black, because I assumed she knew. I found out she does not when she was talking about looking into scholarships and says maybe she can get a scholarship for Indigenous peoples. I laugh because I assume she's joking.
May looks at me and asks why that's so funny, and I say because she's not Native American. She looks truly pissed now and like she's geared up for a fight against a racist and says yes, she is. I look at her parents for backup but they won't look me in the eye. "May, I met your parents. You're half black," I told her. She calls me a liar and says that's stupid, because her parents got her through an adoption agency and she knows she's half Native American.
Now I'll tell you, I know my aunt and uncle made jokes about how she "looks like an Indian" when she was a baby. I know they dressed her up in racist "Indian" outfits every Halloween (first I wasn't old enough to know it was racist, then I thought it's not worth the argument bringing it up). I know her cringey online persona when she was 12/13 was called "PocahontasGirl", and her online "aesthetic" has always been nature and romanticized, spiritual Native American stuff. And again, I never said anything because it wasn't worth the argument, and I figured she would grow out of it when she was less immature. I had genuinely know idea it's because her parents have been lying to her.
I tried to convince her I wasn't lying, I tried to get my aunt and uncle to back me up, but May is a terror when she's mad and she was screaming and crying at me for being racist and calling her parents liars so I just left. She's blocked me everywhere since then, and my aunt called my mom to rant about me filling her daughter's head with lies and trying to break up their happy family. My mom said I should have just left it alone, I said May deserves to know who she really is, and how can my mom condone lying to her when we both know the truth? My mom said just to drop it, it isn't any of our business. That she didn't like the fact that my aunt lied either, but bringing it up now was an asshole move because it would divide the family no matter what. Either May would believe me and hate her parents, or believe her parents and hate me.
In my heart I feel like it's wrong on so many levels to adopt a mixed race child then lie about their heritage, and I think my aunt and uncle are just plain racist. But I can't blame May for not believing me and believing the people who raised her. And I truly do miss her, having known her all her life. AITA?
What are these acronyms?

natural
Rowaelin x f!Reader
Summary: Each step on the cobblestone seemed to echo throughout your entire body, and you allowed yourself one glance back. The curtain on the large front window was parted, your mothers face peering through to watch you. You made eye contact, and she swung the fabric back, obscuring your view of her. A clear dismissal. You swallowed harshly, and turned away, debating if this was worth it. They were worth it, you reminded yourself.
Word Count: ~3k
Warnings: homophobia, toxic family relationships, disownment, drinking
“It’s not natural,” your mother protested as tears filled your eyes.
“I’m in love,” you protested, “that’s the most natural thing there is.”
“Not with …” Your father sighed, rubbing one hand over her face. You knew they loved you in a sense, but they always expected you to live up to their expectations, and what they expected your life to turn out as. A husband, a small army of children, and a nice little house on the outskirts of your city. Maybe that’s what you craved, at one point, but that’s not what the Gods had in store for you and you couldn’t help who you fell in love with.
“I didn’t raise you to turn out this way.” Your mother snapped. Your father shot her a wary look, but she wouldn’t budge. Her face grew red, and you saw tears fill your eyes. “If it was two men I wouldn’t care, but a female?” She ranted, “I won’t allow it.” Her hand clenched around the stem of her wine glass as the liquid swished back and forth.
“You can’t control this.” You said quietly.
“You will do as you are told.” She snapped, pushing up from the table and leaning over to try and get closer to you.
You shoved your chair back abruptly, “I will not,” you said in a shaky voice, struggling to put a lid on your anger.
“If you want to call this your home, you’ll abandon those notions.”
“Dear,” your father started, his eyes wide in alarm, “that’s a bit extreme.”
“I’ll go pack my things.” Silence radiated through the room as you exited. Maybe that was the worst part, that they didn’t try to fix things or call you back. How they just let you go. The parents who claimed to love you, throwing you away because you didn’t fit their mold.
Your older sister waited outside the door, her eyes wide and filled with tears. “Please don’t go.” Only two years separated the two of you, and you’d always been close - thick as thieves, everyone would say, even mistaking you for twins frequently. Sometimes, the two of you didn’t bother to correct them.
“You can’t ask that of me,” your voice was hoarse and you were barely holding it together. She was moving out soon, newly engaged. Your parents knew you were seeing someone and had badgered you for months about your mystery lover, and who he was. You felt your soul slowly tearing in two. Tugged between your family and living your truth. Between hiding and shoving part of yourself down, or embracing who you are.
“I know,” she sighed, and took your hand. “I’ll help you pack.”
Together, you were able to quickly put together a small pack for you, filled with all of your essentials and everything you’d need for the near future. There was a knock on the door, and you scented your mother standing outside. Scented, you thought about that bitterly. A different father than the rest of them, a small affair your mother kept as a ‘family secret.’ Even though your father had quickly forgiven her, desperate to keep her, you were a demi-Fae, and there was no hiding the small canines poking out of your teeth. You kept your smiles closed-lipped, taught to hide your heritage from a young age. And magic, that was explained as an anomaly and you still had tutors to try and help you control it. “We don’t need a loose-cannon in the house.”
“We expect her out within the hour.” She didn’t mean for you to hear the words, but they were harsh and cold.
“Mother,” your sister tried to plead with her, but she only repeated the words and took off down the hall, her shoes clacking on the tile.
“I’d best get going then,” you forced the words out.
“Where will you go?” She asked, closing the door and leaning against it.
Your brother and his wife would take you in for the night, you knew that. That was probably your best bet - and they were just over a mile away, you could make it there in easy time. You almost laughed to yourself, if they knew who your lovers were, they’d likely take a very different tune. And when they found out … you might be using water to douse some flames.
“Probably to Erik’s,” you named your older brother. She nodded to herself, and sent you a tight lipped smile.
“I don’t think any differently of you, you know that right?”
“I know.” You sent her a soft smile and she strode across the room, tugging you into her arms. The dam you kept on your tears almost broke right there, but you managed to keep it together.
“Bring your mystery lovers to my wedding.” She insisted, squeezing your shoulder.
You snuck out of the house, managing to avoid your parents and any other of the inhabitants, with the lone exception of the cat snaking around your legs, mewling softly. You crouched down and left a few scratches on her head before taking a deep breath and braving the cool late fall air.
Each step on the cobblestone seemed to echo throughout your entire body, and you allowed yourself one glance back. The curtain on the large front window was parted, your mothers face peering through to watch you. You made eye contact, and she swung the fabric back, obscuring your view of her. A clear dismissal. You swallowed harshly, and turned away, debating if this was worth it. They were worth it, you reminded yourself.
Halfway to your brothers, you changed your mind. Going there now and explaining everything, having to answer a plethora of questions, felt too raw. He wouldn’t turn you away, but you didn’t have any guarantees he wouldn’t feel the same way as your parents. Or that he wouldn’t try to talk you out of it as well. So, you took a different path, one still familiar to you, and ended up at one of the discreet side gates of the castle. The guards on duty recognized you, and the tear tracks on your face.
One whispered something to the other, and took off across the castle grounds, likely to go find them.
As you approached, the guard - actually a close friend of yours, laid a hand on your shoulder, squeezing lightly. “I’m sorry.” She whispered, and you remembered you’d told her what you planned on tonight, of what you were going to tell your parents.
“It was expected.” You tried to shrug it off.
A figure was darting across the grounds, outlined in the moonlight. She withdrew her hand and stood back at attention. Aelin completed ignored her, instead taking your shoulders in her hands. You couldn’t control it any longer, and the tears started flooding your cheeks, dripping down your face and onto your tunic.
“Oh love,” she murmured, wrapping you tightly in a quick hug before leading you inside. As soon as you’d reached their rooms, she pried the pack off your shoulders, laying it carefully next to the door, before tugging you back in your arms. Sobs wreaked through your body, your chest heaving as you wrapped your arms back around her. She ran her fingers through your hair, whispering how much she loved you, and other sweet things that flew over your head. All that you felt was her, her comforting presence, the thin lid she was keeping on her anger and the worry flooding each part of her. You were almost always put together, they’d probably seen you cry only a few times - and likely happy tears. It took a lot for you to break, but this night had set you over the edge.
Rowan appeared a few minutes later, spotting you tucked in Aelin’s arms and the tears on your face. He managed to pry you away from her, planting you down on the couch before tugging you into his side. The tears were all gone, but your chest still heaved with silent sobs. Aelin returned with a glass of water, watching you to make sure you drank the whole thing.
“Can you tell me what happened?” Rowan said with an unusually gentle voice.
“I told my parents I was in love with both a male and a female. It didn’t go well.” You forced the words out of your mouth. “I didn’t get a chance to tell them who you are before they …”
“They kicked you out.” Aelin’s voice was hard and you glanced up to see the flames dancing in the turquoise and gold eyes, flames starting to dance at her fingertips.
“Don’t make me douse you in water,” you mumbled and the flames retreated slowly. “I’m sorry, I was going to my brothers, and I didn’t mean to intrude, I can leave if -” The words babbled out, coming in fragmented streams.
“No.” Rowan interrupted you. “Don’t leave.”
Aelin crouched in front of you, her fingers tilting your chin up so you’d meet her eyes. She glanced at Rowan once, before fixing her eyes firmly on you. “Live with us.”
“I don’t want to be a -”
She interrupted your sentence, guessing the next word on the tip of your tongue, “you’re not a bother,” she insisted. “Live with us.” You’d only been seeing them for six months, even with the mating bond it felt too … too much like they were taking in a refugee.
“Please.” You blinked slowly before your eyes widened. You’re not certain you’ve ever heard those words from Aelin, except when Rowan was pulling them out of her in very specific ways.
“Am I hallucinating?” She huffed, rolling her eyes at you and moving her hand away just for Rowan to grip your chin, twisting your head so you would look at him.
“No. Move in here.” It was almost like a command rolling from him. You exhaled slowly and nodded. His face lit up, and you heard what might have been a small squeal of joy coming from Aelin. Rowan kept his grip on your chin, “we were going to ask you this week.”
That made you feel a bit better about the situation. He leaned in towards you, pressing a kiss to your forehead before releasing his grip. You let out a low laugh, maybe something good would come out of this.
Aelin tugged you out of your seat, before spinning you in a circle. You laughed as you twisted around, your top catching the air just enough to flare out.
“If only Rowan wasn’t shit at piano, we could dance.” She grumbled, digging her chin into your shoulder, one arm wrapped around your waist to pull you close. Rowan let out a disgruntled noise. Both you and Aelin could play, but Rowan refused to dance except for special occasions.
“They need to make something to record music.”
“I’d empty my bank account for that.” Aelin sighed, squeezing you tighter. You leaned into her, resting your own head on her shoulder, and feeling at peace for the first time in a while. A weight was lifted off your shoulders, the burden of holding a secret like this, and you tried not to think of what else it might cost you. They were worth it, no matter what.
Aelin sent Rowan off to hunt down some chocolate and wine. He seemed reluctant to leave, but a pointed look from her had him on his way. The two of you spent the night sipping fancy wine from the bottle, ignoring Rowan’s insistence for you to use glasses, as he ignored your attempts to get him to try another chocolate.
“I’m still traumatized.” He’d deadpanned, looking right at Aelin. The chocolate-hazelnut cake, you’d heard that particular story a few times and broke into laughter.
“Traitor.” Aelin grumbled at you, snatching the wine away.
-
You fell asleep between the two of them that night, your back pressed to Rowan’s chest, Aelin’s arm thrown over the two of you as your legs felt together. Natural, this was natural and right. You belonged here, with both Aelin and Rowan, with the two loves of your life. With the ones you’d drown the entire world for.
“Wake up,” you heard Rowan’s voice the next morning. Aelin grumbled and tugged you closer to her.
“No,” her voice was half lidded with sleep as she wrapped herself around you. You blinked your eyes open, still heavy, to see Rowan standing at the end of the bed - already fully dressed and armed. His expression was a mixture of amusement and frustration as he looked to you, seeming to say please help.
You raised a brow, but poked Aelin’s cheek. “Rowan says to get up.”
“Fuck Rowan.”
“You do that quite regularly, Fireheart.”
She let out something like a squawk and buried herself deeper into you.
-
The three of you took breakfast in their rooms that morning. Your body was hungry, you knew that, but your mind was wandering too much to focus on any food and you poked at your eggs, swishing them around the plate. Rowan was frowning at you, but he thankfully didn’t comment.
“What do you want to do about them?” Aelin finally asked.
“Nothing,” you answered automatically.
“They hurt you.” You looked up to see her fist clenching her glass, her knuckles going white.
Your mothers fingers were white knuckled around the stem of her glass as she stared at you with disdain and hatred, her face swirled into an ugly expression - one you’d never seen pointed in your direction.
“They’re still my parents.” You managed to say, turning your gaze back down to your food, finally spearing a potato and lifting it to your mouth. Objectively, you knew the food was delicious, the food always was at the castle, but today it felt like ash in your mouth.
“They still hurt you,” Aelin pushed.
“Just …” you sighed, abandoning your fork and the pretense of eating. “Leave them alone, please.” You turned to Rowan, who looked a bit less likely to try and storm your parents house. A phrase, from your sister, popped into your mind ‘bring your mystery lovers to my wedding,’
“For now.” Aelin said, and that was probably as close to a compromise as you’d get out of her, and accepted it.
“You’re invited to my sister's wedding.” Her eyes gleamed with mischief, and for a second you regretted mentioning it. “And we won’t ruin it,” you added as a warning.
“No,” she sighed, “Rowan can just scare the shit out of them.” Even Rowan looked vaguely excited by the notion.
-
Neither wore anything to signify they were royals, with the exception of the crest rings, but their presence and the way they carried themselves would be enough to intimidate anyone, even if their faces weren’t recognizable.
“The King and Queen,” whispers along with shocked gasps following the three of you. Rowan squeezed his arm around your shoulders, and Aelin placed a kiss on your cheek. A clear signal of who they were here with, and it boosted your confidence and resolve. This would be the first time you saw your parents again, but you were here to celebrate your sister. You were glad, in a sense, that they weren’t able to attend the ceremony and couldn’t take away from her big day, even if the feeling felt a bit ugly inside of you. They would understand that.
“The mystery lovers,” your sister mused as you approached her. “Your majesties,” she started to curtsey, but Aelin held her hand up.
“We’re family now, aren’t we?” Your sister nodded, a blush forming on her cheeks. “Then none of that.” She embraced her instead, pulling her into a warm hug. You’d sent word ahead of time that it would be just you at the ceremony, and that your ‘mystery lovers,’ would join you afterwards briefly. Still, watching your sister walk down the isle, with you as her maid of honor - much to your mothers chagrin, was worth it.
Rowan cleared his throat, “we can’t stay long, but we wanted to give you our congratulations.”
He shook her hand, and her new husband’s - who was blushing almost as much as your sister was, to your eternal amusement.
“He’s pretty, isn’t he?” Aelin sighed and winked at your sister, who returned it with a smile. Rowan glared at her half-heartedly. The three of you moved out of the way, letting others come and greet the new bride and groom.
Then, you spotted your mother making her away across the room. Somehow, you managed to avoid her throughout the entire ceremony, but it seemed your luck was at an end. Sweat filled your palms, and your skin began to feel clammy. Rowan’s hand was a steady presence in the small of your back, as they watched your mother approach with a predator's glance, both of them on edge.
“Your majesties,” she dropped into a courtesy, but they didn’t acknowledge her. “Y/n,” she reached her hand out for you, but Aelin shifted to stand in front of you, her eyes narrowed at the woman.
“It’s good to see you.” Your mother tried, but didn’t reach out for you again.
You glanced around the room first, before squinting your eyes to size her up. “I’m afraid the sentiment is not returned,” you spoke quietly enough only she, Aelin, and Rowan would hear.
Her eyes widened in shock, and her jaw dropped. You turned to look at Aelin, who was already staring at you with something like pride on her face. She wrapped her arm around your shoulders and guided you away. Rowan fell into step next to you.
“I’m proud of you,” he said under his breath.
“Is it too late to turn her to ash?” Aelin asked, almost pouting.
You snorted, “it would ruin the festivities.”
“I suppose,” Aelin sighed, squeezing you closer to her. Warmth filled you as you turned to look at her. She pressed her lips to your forehead. “I’m proud of you too.”

DMC5 Guys Crushing On A Self-Conscious Half Devil FemReader Headcanons
Tumblr media
Requested by @danielle-marie
(A/N:) This one hit a little closer to home though I am not half devil. 🤣 I am a very self-conscious person and I’m trying to work on myself. Don’t get down on yourselves girlies y’all are made perfectly and who you are for a reason. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. ❤️ Until next time happy reading! ~Countess
Tumblr media
Dante X FemReader
Dante didn’t believe in love at first sight, until he met you.
You couldn’t figure out why Dante was giving you so much attention.
You never had the confidence in your looks and you honestly didn’t think any guy would ever want to even look your direction.
Especially if they figured out about you being a half blooded devil.
You hid that side of you well, but at times when your temper flares it’s harder to hide it.
One time you lost control causing your fingers to grow into claws and horns to sprout from your head.
Little kids screamed and parents chased you away.
It had been your worst nightmare and you didn’t go back out into public for months.
Now you avoided crowds and tried your best to steer clear of any human interaction.
Then Dante walked into your life and he kept striding past your barriers.
Then it happened, your half devil reappeared as you lost control in front of Dante.
You just knew he would abandon you after the incident but he only grew closer.
“Babe, I’m half devil. You think some claws and horns will drive me away? Buckle in toots you ain’t getting rid of me.”
Tumblr media
Vergil X FemReader
Vergil is more aloof than his brother but he can’t deny the crush he has on you, though he doesn’t admit it out loud.
He doesn’t understand why you can’t see yourself the way he sees you.
Of course he still hasn’t admitted how he truly feels about you.
He can sense there’s something different about you, but you’re so good at hiding things that he can’t pinpoint it.
He doesn’t pry either.
You can’t tell people your true heritage. It would send most people packing that you have devil blood running through your veins.
Though you are only half it doesn’t take much for your other features to take over.
With scaly wings, horns, claws, and fangs that transform every time you feel threatened.
You knew that Vergil out of everyone would understand, but you just can’t accept that side of yourself.
Then that fateful day happened, Vergil sensed a devil near by and it attacked you both.
Your devil blood sensing the danger caused you to transform.
After dispatching it Vergil really saw the part you were afraid of, where your self-conscious side came from and he was floored.
“You do know that I’m part devil too? I don’t like you hiding the side that gives you strength. Be proud of who you are.”
Tumblr media
Nero X FemReader
Nero can tell that you are unsure of yourself. You hardly smile or let anyone in.
You keep everyone at arms length. Even him.
He stays up most nights wishing you could see yourself through his eyes, as you are perfect.
He’s the one with problems not you.
So what could you possibly hide from him that would make you feel like you aren’t worth anyone’s time?
He compliments you, but it just makes you retreat further.
You know Nero has seen everything horrible in life, you just can’t be that one thing that makes him say that’s enough and leaves.
You didn’t ask to be part devil. You didn’t ask for the claws that refused to transform back into human hands.
You didn’t ask for the small fangs that never seemed to go away.
You had such a hard time keeping the monster at bay and people could sense the danger whenever you were near.
You couldn’t bring yourself to make friends and then Nero barged in.
He could tell something was different about you and he hated that you never smiled and you always kept yourself covered.
He really hated it when you flinched if he tried to hold your hand.
Then he found out. He hadn’t meant to scare you or find out this way it just happened that way.
You were ashamed and Nero was not going to let you stay that way.
“I’m quarter devil, my dad is the ultimate jerk. But I know exactly how you feel. I once had an arm I thought I had to hide until I learned that it wasn’t that big of a deal. It doesn’t define who you are. I think it’s awesome and I think you’re beautiful just the way you are.”
Tumblr media
V X FemReader
V doesn’t understand how you can feel so self-conscious. To him you’re absolutely perfect.
He tells you so as well but you just brush his compliments off.
How could anyone like him like someone that has tainted devil blood flowing through her veins?
You’re really good at hiding the side you don’t want others to see but at times you can lose control.
So far you have kept it well hidden as you don’t really go out in public much.
You don’t want to be known as the freak to anyone else, your horrified by yourself enough.
You don’t want complete strangers to find your devil blood appalling.
And you definitely don’t want V to know, you couldn’t deal with him leaving you just because of who you are.
The claws, scaly skin, and fangs that only seemed to come out when you were scared or angry would make even the toughest person cower.
Then one day V found out.
You had lost your temper and transformed right in front of him.
You waited for the screaming or cursing.
But none ever came.
V took your hand, careful of the sharp nails that had taken over and he smiled gently.
“Don’t think you can scare me with such beauty as this? Don’t hide your true nature from me. It hurts me more that you don’t accept yourself than any other painful wound a man can gain.”

Robe
Tumblr media
The number of times that you recalled a certain half demon placing his robe over you in protections were too numerous to count. It was only when you were in dire danger or need that the precious red fabric ever left his being. It was his armor, as you’ve come to recognize from every battle you’d witnessed, proving its worth time and time again as he fought countless foes. There were a few times when its protection could only do so much for him but he always treated it with care even when it had been rendered to tatters until it could return to its former completed shape.
Your gaze rose upwards to the darkened night sky. Another new moon had come, earning the little traveling group a much needed break for camp, along with a change over a certain person who now grumbled lowly under their breath as a town appeared in the distance. The change InuYasha befell never ceases to amaze you as he huffed when the little fox demon lightly poked fun. Long pristine platinum white hair was now a black that could rival tonight’s darkness, touchable ears that would swivel or perk had disappeared, and the sharpness of his nails that was rivaled by his eyes were now softer yet still profound that told of inhuman heritage.
“What are you looking at?”
A snap of your head back towards the road shifted your gaze forward. “Wonder if there’s an place that we can stay at.”
“Tsk. Nothing wrong with camping.”
The monk intervened before you could respond, stating that for everyone’s sake it would be best to take shelter, then departed once spotting several prosperous homes. None too surprising that Sango followed him closely with Shippo and Kilala up her shoulders. That meant it was just the two of you walking along the dirt trodden path.
As if pulled by a magnet your gaze drifted back towards the seemingly normal man beside you.
“If you’ve got something to say, than say it already.” His snap was halfhearted, earning a raise of your eyebrow. When you didn’t answer he quickened his pace until blocking your path which caused you to stop. It was rare to see this expression upon his face as the nearby lantern illuminated his features for you. It was concerned, worried maybe, but most of all it was sincere. “What is it? You’ve been awfully quiet since dusk.” This was another aspect that you favored about this time of the month. Honesty was a strong suit of his, ego and bravado being used as shields when someone managed to get beneath his skin, but it was during this change that he was more open with you in particular when in regards to certain topics. Patience wasn’t his forte yet he waited for longer than you expected for an answer of some sort until he cast a brief glance over your shoulder before encouraging you to stand closer to the source of light. “You know I’d do my best to protect you, right? Don’t be scared.”
Warmth entered your cheeks at the tone he used. “Oh, I know you will, that’s not why—” Your words were forgotten as one of his hands appeared from the robe’s sleeves to press its palm against your forehead. “What are you doing?”
“Checking to see if you’re falling ill.” The hum that sounded from his throat reverberated slightly in your ears from its pitch, his expression becoming one of concentration. “You don’t have a fever so that’s good.”
“Really, I’m fine.”
At that moment a breeze blew past, tickling the bare skin of your legs and arms until the hairs stood upright with its cooler temperature, earning a shiver across your body. Your head hung as he sighed. All day you’ve been suppressing similar shivers down your spine with each breath of wind that whispered of fall’s coming frost. Guess you should’ve listened to mom’s advice about packing weather appropriate clothing. The school’s summertime uniform wasn’t going to cut it for much longer. Why couldn’t you have packed a jacket or some leggings instead of all those textbooks that threatened to break your back?
Silence filled the air between the two of you until the sound of shifting fabric caused your gaze to rise in curiosity only for it to become ensnared by a pair of warm sienna brown eyes that subtly shone with amber shards. His fingers were careful as they slipped the heavy backpack off your shoulders, easily swinging it up onto his own, then shifted so that you were nearly sandwiched between his body and the lantern. Not only was he blocking the wind but also attempting to combine his body heat with that of the lantern to help keep you warm until the others returned. And still his gaze remained locked on your own even when the subtlest of pink hues appeared within the tips of his ears. “It’s not much but better?”
A small smile lifted your lips as the chill in your skin slowly dissipated. “Much, thanks.”
It didn’t take long for Shippo to return with word that Miroku had found a place to stay for the night. After a modest dinner and sleeping arrangements had been made, you slipped off towards a quieter part of the residence where a little studying could be done. The head of the house had been kind enough to provide a few candles to offer better light for you but they did little to stem off the night’s chill as your nearly numb fingers fumbled to turn a page. Just as you were about to call it a night because it was becoming too difficult to focus from the cold, something happened that you never would have guessed or saw coming.
From behind you appeared two folds of familiar fabric that loosely enclosed you within a cocoon, a pair of legs folding neatly beneath you in place of the floor that were far more cushioned, and a firm toned surface meeting your back that had begun to protest against the slouched position you’d been in for the last hour. “Getting some studying done?” He asked softly, as if hoping not to startle you too much. A barely audible hiss slipped from between his lips as he drew you closer with a squeeze. “Damn, (Y/n), you’re freezing. How can you possibly get anything done when you’re this cold?”
Your answer was lost to the stuttering of syllables as your teeth chattered slightly, earning a chuckle from the dark haired man.
“Next time you’re this cold, just say something, ‘kay?” It was only when you nodded in agreement did his posture become more relaxed, hold loosening just enough that you could pick up the textbook again.
Now you had a completely different reason to be distracted.
Had he always been this warm or was that the robe? Either way it was so blissful that your mind slowly became a muddled mess the longer you remained within his hold. The sharp scents of Wind Scars or Backlash Waves that mostly dominated his being had given way to reveal faint traces of salty sweat reminding you of the beach, dry chalky remnants that were similar to mountains, and spicy cinnamon that tickled your nose in an alluring way.
“So what are you studyin’ this time? Is it that weird trig-no-metry thing?”
A chuckle came from your throat, shifting so that he could see the illustration of a bamboo forest. “It’s the story of a prince who wants to marry the bamboo princess but she has all these tasks for him to do before she agrees.” The tip of your finger rose when his expression became weary. “It’s similar to the Kaguya legend but this one describes the Robe of the Fire Rat to be silvery and beautiful.”
His eyebrows shot upwards as his chin fell to rest upon your shoulder, causing your cheeks to brush. “Yeah?”
“Mmhm. According to this, it was mistaken for common silk at first when an iron box had been dug up beneath a fallen temple. Only the prince of Japan at the time who had sent word to his dear friend in China asking for assistance understand what it truly once when he received it. So beautiful it was the he couldn’t wait to gift it to the princess but didn’t feel as though it would do her justice.” Your hand turned the page to reveal an illustration, eyes finding the sentence where you left off and continued to read aloud. “‘Across a bed of coals did the prince lay the robe, for it had been heard that the robe would become more beautiful to behold once kissed by flame’s lingering breath’. It said in a passage that it was as if silver had been spun finely to create the robe that could protect its wearer from any heat related harm.” From the corner of your eye you could see InuYasha’s gaze shift from the open book to his trusty coat, coaxing his eyes to return to the page courtesy of your nudge. “However, the prince made a mistake. He placed it on the coals twice more and it evaporated into silver smoke.”
The snort that sounded nearly made you smile. “Idiot. Should’ve just left it alone.”
“Well, he was trying to make sure it was in its peak condition before giving it to the bamboo princess. Nothing wrong with trying to ensure a gift is in its best condition.” You chided, noting how he rolled his eyes. “Yours was a gift from your father, right? Would you have been happy if he’d given it to you full of holes?” No sooner had the words come out of your mouth did you wish to take them back as his gaze darkened. Guilt filled your veins as his lip curled. “InuYasha, I’m sorry—”
“It was actually a gift to my mother who then passed it down to me when she died.” His tone was much softer than the expression made of stone he wore. “My old man knew he wouldn’t be enough to protect her so he’d asked the Fire Rat to make something for her. A lot of good it did her though.”
From within your heart came a twinge of sadness for him as he took a deep inhale through his nose. The book was closed with a snap, somehow not earning a reaction from him, then it was placed off to the side as you pivoted so that the two of you were facing each other. Only when the palms of your hands cupped his face did the dark haired InuYasha surface from the thoughts plaguing his mind. His gaze found your own, finding warmth and honesty, before you snuggled into his being while wrapping your arms around his torso. “I’m glad your father had it made to protect her, you could almost say it was made from his love for Lady Izayoi, and it became full of her love for you after your birth.” From this angle you couldn’t see his face there was no mistaking the rhythm of his heart quickening when you gave him a squeeze. “You could even say that its their love combined that continues to protect you even during this time when you feel weakest.”
The stiffness within his toned muscular frame ebbed at your words. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to know that he’d been constantly on guard all day knowing what was to come once the sun had set. Sure there was Sango, Miroku, and even Kilala to help if a battle or opponent were to present themselves. Ever so slowly, his arms enclosed around you in a returning embrace until the entirety of your form was nearly pressed against his own. Tresses of his long hair intermixed with your own as his warm breath wafted the sensitive skin of your neck.
Not another word was spoken between the two of you as one by one the candles flickered than hissed before extinguishing until darkness settled over the two of you like a heavy curtain. Neither it nor the whispering chill on the breeze could force you two apart as warmth slowly grew between your forms. The robe was large enough to comfortably fit around your combined forms, although that might have been because you were practically cradled against his form with your face protectively tucked beneath his chin, the gentle rises and falls of your chests in harmony as sleep slowly claimed you both.
It was almost too soon that you woke to find the first few rays of sunshine filtering over the horizon. Unlike the first time you’d witnessed his transformation, you watched with awe as black gave way to silvery platinum and the sharpness returned to his features as he stirred. The lids of his eyes opened just in time for the sienna brown to be overtaken by brilliant gold and pupils to become oval shaped rather than circular, those shards of amber remaining but now becoming harder to see from the irises’ ring. And yet he didn’t move or say anything that suggested you should move away. So within his hold you remained, offering a smile of greeting when his pointed dog-like ears perked in your direction.
“Morning, InuYasha.”
His gaze flitted off to the distance, a huff sounding in his nose. “Yeah…morning.”
“Did you sleep good?”
“Tsk. Would you sleep well if something heavier than a pickling pot sat in your lap?”
A twitch settled within your brow. Standing, you gathered all of the books you’d meant to study last night and shoved the materials back into your bag as the chorus of your names came from within the residence. “Sounds like the others are up so we should get going.”
“Not like we got anything here to keep us. Better to move on.”
The muscles within your jaw clenched as he nonchalantly rose then disappeared around the main house’s corner in the direction of where your companions would likely be as you hurried to follow. It was then that you noticed not only was your bag suddenly missing but the Robe of the Fire Rat was secured around your frame in a similar fashion that it had been at the Sage Tokijin’s temple. When had he done that?
“Hurry up, (Y/n), we ain’t got all day!”
Though it was so fast the others had missed, or if they had seen they didn’t comment, the pink tinge that entered his cheeks when you’d appeared alongside them.
“Why are you wearing InuYasha’s robe?” Shippo asked curiously while hoping up to balance atop of your head. “Did something happen last night that made you not come to bed?”
A teasing smile raised your lips while catching the half-demon’s gaze before taking the lead from him from beyond the gate that was entrance to the residence. “Looks better on me, wouldn’t you agree, Miroku?”
Instantly, InuYasha’s expression became one of anger as the perverted monk made to comment. “Don’t you even start!”

ROUND 4 MATCH 11
Tumblr media
Claude propaganda:
"To say Claude has trust issues is an understatement—you have to spend half the game earning his. (Claude isn't even his real name!) Once you have it, though, he's absolutely ride or die for you until the stars go out. He is so full of heart and ambition: He wants both sides of his heritage to get along, he wants to open borders and eliminate xenophobia and promote equality between commonfolk, and deep down, I think he craves a partner to stand with him at that new dawn, or an equal who sees his vision for the future and will fight for it just as hard. Nobody believed in him when he was a kid, but if you put your faith in him, he'll return it tenfold. Some people don't like that he's calculating, or has to leave the player character at the end of the game to go back to his homeland, but both are necessary elements for his goals to change things. He will always come back, and everyone who bets against him and his love for his companions is wrong with a big fat W. #KhalidForMostDatablePrez"
"Claude is a fun little onion of facades. He calls himself the embodiment of distrust, he acts like he's carefree and without worries, an unscrupulous schemer--and so many in universe buy into that hook line and sinker. He's used to others viewing him with suspicion and uses it as armor to obscure his not-so-dark truth: that he cares immensely, that he values minimizing the loss of life, and that above all he has so much hope that people will fundamentally choose to do better given the choice.
His front guards a center that his conflict filled world would be happy to tear apart. As the child of people from two nations in constant conflict--one of which is explicitly isolationist and dehumanizes those outside its church's reach--he hasn't really had a place where he can be without his facade. As a child he thought he could run, but when confronted with the fact that this hatred existed no matter where he ran, he chose to instead try to create a more just and kind world.
His inability to let others in beyond his facade at first may lead to a sense of distance, but isn't it then all the more satisfying when you're allowed in? All he wants is a little trust, a little faith, and--like what he wants to give everyone--a chance to be better.
And like that you got a charming young lad with a fun personality that your grandma would be thrilled to have stay forever."
Fane propaganda:
“Okay yes he starts off as quite pompous, but he goes through SOOO much growth over the course of the game.  He discovers his people have formed a force of world-devouring monsters and even though he still loves and sympathizes with them he acknowledges that the world he is currently in, the world that is YOUR home, is worthwhile and worth saving.  He is literally stuck in a world that is alien and foreign to him and with your help he sees that it has value and beauty. Solas Dragon Age WISHES he had what Fane has. Get yourself a skeleton man who will forsake his dying world for you because you taught him to see the beauty and wonder in life.”

Opening and reviewing my first Australian Girl doll
Tumblr media
She spent more than a month in a box, making her way halfway across the world to her new home, and now here she is! I'm so relieved that she arrived safely. It was the longest I've ever had to wait for a doll, and through much of her journey I didn't know where she was or when she would be here.
I don't want to drop too big of a spoiler, but listen to this........ she was so worth the wait, and the money. This doll instantly won my heart with how exquisite she is in every way.
Australian Girl dolls were specially made for Australian children, by Helen Schofield, a grandmother who loved dolls. She created the brand when she couldn't find an age appropriate doll that was locally available or good quality. So she created these dolls to help children feel pride in Australian culture, while teaching them about friendship and empathy. There are five girls to befriend--Amy, Jasmine, Emily, Bronte, and Matilda, each representing a different region of the country, ethnicity, and lifestyle.
The company itself has quite high standards. They strive to reduce waste in their product packaging, and they use a factory in China that treats its workers humanely and does not use child labor.
Tumblr media
If you've been around my blog for a while, you know how much I love collecting diverse brands and types of play dolls, especially international dolls. Also, this one will be extra special because I actually have an Australian grandmother--she's also a doll collector, and I'm looking forward to showing her my new doll the next time I see her.
After the cut, I'll show you who she is, and talk about why I chose her. I'll compare her with similar-sized dolls as well, and have her do some dressing up.
Before we get to the unboxing, let's check out the little goodies included with my doll.
Tumblr media
First is a little pamphlet explaining why the dolls are special, but also represent real girls growing up in Australia.
Tumblr media
There's another pamphlet about how to care for your doll.
Tumblr media
All of the dolls come with a fun freebie: this cute pair of thongs.
Tumblr media
Another freebie (a $30 AUD value) is this very sturdy doll carrier with pockets for accessories.
Tumblr media
I also bought a pair of sneakers for my new girl. I figured her feet would be a bit larger than my other dolls, and these are cute, so she now has three pairs of shoes to wear.
Anyway. Enough of the small stuff. Let's let her out of the box.
Tumblr media
It's Amy from Adelaide!
I chose Amy after three entire years of being indecisive and going back and forth on exactly which Australian Girl I wanted. They're all equally adorable, so I picked Amy because her personality seems very sweet, and I love that she has mixed heritage. According to the Austrlaian Girl dolls website, Amy's family tree is a mix of Aboriginal and Dutch on her mother's side, and English and Indian/Fijian on her father's side. Very representative of modern Australia!
Tumblr media
I have no regrets. She is perfect!!! Just the most charming little angel. I am officially WOWED.
Tumblr media
I'm seriously impressed at the superior quality of her construction. I understand why she was priced a bit higher than similar dolls. She is, from head to toe, beautifully made, with so many sweet details. Her dress and shoes are also impeccably made and feel very durable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her hair is flawless. It's a Kanekalon wig with loose curls, in a gorgeous shade of brown. Her eyes open and close. She has both painted and attached eyelashes.
Tumblr media
She has a gap between her big toe and the next toe, so she can wear her sandals and thongs.
Tumblr media
Her elbows are dimpled and she has subtle blush color on parts of her skin, including elbows and hands.
Tumblr media
She has a crease across her palm.
Tumblr media
She has articulation at her shoulders, hips, and neck. Her limbs, head, and shoulders are vinyl, and she has a huggable soft tummy. I don't really have a strong preference for either cloth torsos, vinyl torsos, or half and half like Amy. They all have pros and cons. This specific construction is nice in that she can wear low-neckline clothes without showing a cloth body, but it does make her harder to repair in case she has to be fixed.
I have a pretty good idea of what she'll be wearing when she's ready to change out of her pink party dress.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first photo shows her in a dress I made. The second is a Maplelea dress and hat. The rest are all American Girl brand clothing, except for the shoes. Amy can comfortably wear most stretchy clothes by AG and similar brands like Our Generation, but her feet absolutely will not fit AG, OG, or Maplelea shoes.
Tumblr media
The exception to the clothes is some of the tighter pieces. This AG shirt did not fit well. Amy's shoulders are a bit more broad than smaller dolls, and so without some extra give this is too tight.
Tumblr media
Amy is 20 inches/51 centimeters tall. Here she is next to my Our Generation doll Jordana. I'm using an OG doll because they're actually available locally in Australia. Whereas American Girl dolls, which I usually use when I compare brands, have to make an overseas journey. So it's only fair that I consider any Australians reading this now who are wondering how Amy compares.
Tumblr media
Amy is tall, but not the tallest doll in the family! Here she is next to Fernanda, my Karito Kids doll, who is about an inch taller although slimmer. Karito Kids dolls are in fact just slightly skinnier than American Girl dolls, so they have a much easier time sharing clothes.
In conclusion, I highly highly recommend this doll. She's absolutely sublime! I'm so thrilled to have her here, and I'm looking forward to having lots of adventures with her.
Obviously I'm far from Australia, but my Amy will still live her life as if she were in a suburb outside of the city of Adelaide. I've been looking at pictures of the geography of the state of South Australia, and there are some places in the mountainous parts that look pretty similar to the desert southwest where I live. So Amy will have no idea she's actually in the USA. Don't tell her the truth!
