Hey hope you doing well
I'm not same anon
Thank you for answering your fav arcs. Your selection was great, i was certain you'd love wci. It's such interesting family dynamics right
Most people didn't recieve the arc well..
I love your works btw. So I'm very much interested in knowing your favourites, so your fav haikyuu arcs? Or matches and top 3 fav characters:)
Feel free to not reply if this gets repetitive.
Hello again, anon! :D And noooo omg I'm really enjoying having the excuse chance to ramble about things I love! So don't worry about being repetitive because you're definitely not :D
Top 3 hq!! characters? Oh my. Well I've already said too much about Hinata being my top fave, so I guess I can elaborate on the #2 and #3 in my kokoro.
#2 - Yachi Hitoka and Sugawara Koushi
I'm going to cheat a little here. I love these two equally after Hinata and no one can make me choose who takes the next top spot, so there ;-; Seeing Yachi blushing and stuttering and just being a total mess in front of Shimizu made me forever endeared to her. Like yes girl I too would make an absolute fool of myself in front of people I feel are out of my league. Also!!! Her struggle with self-esteem and her trying to become her own person apart from her mother's legacy is such A Mood. Her arc is shorter than most of the cast but it didn't make it any less memorable to me. And homegirl chose hell with a career in ad design. She's pretty insane, I'm sure.
And Sugawara is just so charming as a character! How I wish I had a senior like him in my high school clubs ;-; It actually distressed me a little that he hardly got any action during their final battles in Tokyo Dome, but his antics on the side made it a little worth it. He's capable, self-aware, dependable and also emotionally intelligent, which I really, really appreciate in male characters. I take comfort in the idea that Furudate-sensei might have modeled his personality after a real individual. We need more people in the world like him imo.
#3 - Miya Osamu
This is actually so funny. Right off the bat, people who know me in real life always guessed correctly who's my favorite of the Miya twins I'm that fucking predictable. Atsumu's a great, interesting character for sure, but Osamu's soporific disposition kept making me think 'hmmmm there must be something else behind this person'. And as soon as it was revealed that Osamu didn't have any intention to go pro after high school, I started fixating on him. And because Furudate-sensei knows my heart, of course Osamu didn't pursue what was expected of him, of course he loves food, of course he'll make a career of making the classic onigiri, of course his uncomplicated love for food is a great contrast to his chaotic relationship with his brother/volleyball. Man!!!
And as for arcs/matches---
#1 - Brazil Arc/Post Timeskip
I am extremely biased. Hinata's my favorite character. And Brazil arc Hinata is god tier Hinata. Anyone who says otherwise can argue with a wall.
But for real, I just love it when authors throw their MCs into unfamiliar situations and environments. People may argue that it's a lazy way to shove character development into the plot, but in Hinata's case it really fits. I also love the cross-cultural exchange that comes with it! I know Brazil is already familiar to Japan considering their shared history with Portugal, but it's still nice for Haikyuu!!'s Japanese audience to (re)learn about a country quite different in culture and social norms. I for one became really interested about Brazil and Latin America that I started reading novels made by Latin American authors.
#2 - Karasuno vs. Aoba Johsai, Interhigh
I might be in the minority here, but I like it when the main characters lose at times. It's not because I enjoy watching the heartache. But the journey going from bottom to top---the possibilites are just endless. It kind of feeds my need for hopeful stories. I think of myself as an optimistic person, and I watch shows like Haikyuu!! wanting to be inspired and uplifted.
Hinata and Kageyama's dynamic on the court was, to me, a bit unequal during the first arc of the manga. The freak quick with Hinata closing his eyes and heavily relying on Kageyama setting with pinpoint accuracy was indeed cool, and it revealed so much about them as characters, but it was clear from the start that it's not the move that'd catapult them to the top. Dare I say it was more of a gimmick than an actual technique; their success with it won't last. Hinata opening his eyes to find himself blocked pointblank made me sad no doubt, but it's also a satisfying way to end the match. There's literally no other way to end it. And I love that this arc spurred Karasuno into making themselves a more complete team by the time they faced Shiratorizawa.
#3 - Karasuno vs. Nekoma, Tokyo Nationals
They hyped this match so much since the first arcs so obviously my anticipation was through the roof. Plus there's the generational aspect of it that made the whole thing bittersweet (The reveal that Grandpa Ukai was watching the Nekoma match in the hospital and commenting with pride, "My disciples are there" !!!!!!!) And I love the imagery this match has given birth to! Conniving cats versus feral crows in the garbage dump! Kenma and Hinata aiming to stab one another at the jugular! Kenma trapping Hinata in a birdcage! And Kageyama breaking Hinata out of it!!! *incoherent wailing*
So sorry if this answer got too long once again. Thank you for taking the time to ask my opinion. As you can see, I greatly enjoyed sharing my thoughts with you! :DDD

i don’t know how it took me so long to realise that if yama.guchi is karasuno’s captain in his third year, then his vice-captain is probably either kage.yama, tsu.kishima or hi.nata, and all three options are equally chaotic.

Hi...how are you? If you don't mind me asking, what are your top 10 favorite anime? And why? (I've already asked before but in a bad time when you're still busy, sorry about that). Sorry again if you've already answered this question before....
Hi! Thanks for asking again! ^^
My top 10 favourite animes...hmm...this was much more difficult to answer than I expected 😂 anyway, here they are :
1. Yuri on ice
Tumblr media
This one takes the top spot without question 🥺 if I start writing about why I love YOI and how it made a huge impact on me personally, we'll be here for days XD so....short answer : I STILL LOVE THIS SHOW SO MUCH 😭💕
2. Kikis delivery service
Tumblr media
My most favourite ghibli film 💖 this one has it all, a young girl's journey to find her place in the world, creativity and passion for your job, and what it means to lose it. Getting back on your feet when life turns shitty. Found family. Learning to be self reliant. Dealing with self doubt....just...chef's kiss 😘
3. FMAB
Tumblr media
The classic. Everyone and their great grandma has seen it, and never stops raving about it and deservedly so. I watched it simultaneously w an irl friend of mine, and we kept giving each other spoilers throughout the week we saw it lol. Additionally, the only show that has Edward Elric my gremlin son Riza my wife, I had a huge crush on her lololol and Roy the bastard I'm willing to fight for Riza's hand in marriage 😌👌
4. Haikyuu!!
Tumblr media
Imo, the greatest sports anime I've seen (my experience is limited tho lol). The series that inspired me to get out of a long phase of stagnation in my early college days. I owe this one so much ❤️ every single character left an impression on me, I laughed with them, cried at their losses, and cheered equally for the opponent team as I did for Karasuno. It wasn't just an anime for me, but a whole personal journey from beginning to end. Can't thank Furudate sensei enough for creating this masterpiece. 💕
5. Oofuri
Tumblr media
This show is SO. DAMN. UNDERRATED. Whyyy?? Like?? Imo, it deserves as much hype as haikyuu or other sports animes, because at its core, Oofuri was so much more than a sports anime. It was about friendships, learning to trust others, knowing that they had your back, and learning to value yourself more, realising you were worth more than you believed. It was just.... So so precious 🥺💕 and it has at Mihashi!!! My sunshine child!!!! 🥺💕
6. 91 days
Tumblr media
Angsty. Gritty. Kept me on the edge from start to finish. And oh. Also major heartbreak. I cried for a week 🙃 Bonus : it has Angelo Lagusa, the protag who desperately needs someone to give him a hug 😭 he didn't deserve all that shit :'))))
7. From up on poppy hill
Tumblr media
My second favourite ghibli movie. I related so much to the protagonist, Umi. She had to take on so much of responsibilities from a young age, tried to hold it together for her family's sake, and was just.... In general, very very like me 🙈😋 it was like seeing myself on the screen, you get me? I loved the idyllic location, the analogy of boats passing by and Umi waiting for a person who was never gonna come back....it was very bittersweet :')
8. Dokyuusei
Tumblr media
Such a sweet, nostalgic story, the animation is beautiful ❤️ and does the art of Asumiko Nakamura justice 😌
9. Garden of words
Tumblr media
Ad narrator voice : If u have a foot fetish and are fond of age gap ships, then this is just the movie for you!!
Lol just kidding 😂 this movie has a special place in my heart because it was my introduction to the world of Makoto Shinkai and I was MESMERISED. I remember exactly how I saw this film. Back in 2016, it smh came in my youtube recommendations, and I clicked on it without much thought. and HOLY SHIT it was an EXPERIENCE. I was in awe of the sheer details, the colors, the fluid animation, the mood every single frame had.... Much of the story didn't register in my brain at all, I was too busy drooling over the gorgeous visuals 😋💕
10. One punch man
Tumblr media
Lol this show was GLORIOUS. 😂😂😂 Extremely entertaining, would recommend 10/10!!!!! Saitama in the gif is my spirit animal, for I too, have lost many a battle against 5 mm long mosquitoes 😔

PROLOGUE
Tumblr media
‘Are you going to tell him?’
‘Yes mom, I want to tell him already about this exciting news, I’m positive that he will be so happy’ you answered your mom’s question with the biggest smile ever, you would be lying if you said you weren’t nervous at all about his reaction, but you know that he loves you and would accept it and stay with you
You didn’t even realize that Kiyoomi was already standing behind you and your mom until he spoke
‘Am I interrupting?’
You were startled by his voice but then you turned excitedly, and you met his eyes, the eyes you were deeply in love with, you smiled at him and he did the same, but, something was wrong, it wasn’t the kind and loving smile you were used to, instead, this smile was still loving but there was sadness behind it... deciding to shrug it off you went to him and he embraced you into his arms
‘Nothing at all! let’s go up the treehouse and eat, I’m kinda hungry’
‘Yea sure, but there’s something I want to talk to you about...’
Settling down on the carpet inside the treehouse, you two started eating while occasionally feeding each other, there was silence, and you already wanted to tell him so bad
‘So, what I wanted to tell you was that... you’re going to-’
You couldn’t even finish your sentence because he interrupted you
‘Y/N I want to beak up with you, I’m sorry’
‘Be a f-, I’m sorry what? you want to break up? b-but w-why? d-did I do something wrong? t-this is a prank right Omi?’
You couldn’t even speak properly, you were shocked, and your eyes were getting watery by now
‘No.. you didn’t do anything wrong, it’s just that, I want to focus on my volleyball career’
You were silent ‘...’
‘Y/N I really love you, and I want someone to be there by a flash whenever you need them, and.. I’m sorry but I can’t do that if I’m gonna focus on volleyball..’
‘S-so what your telling me is that.. that I’m holding you back?’
‘...’ he was the one silent now
Taking his silence as a yes
‘I’m sorry for holding you back then...’
Tears started running out of your eyes
‘F-Fine by me.. if it’s to see you successful and happy then I’m willing to let you go’
‘I don’t deserve you Y/N... thank you for understanding, please take care of yourself, I love you okay? remember that.’
He embraced you into his arms and kissed your forehead, and you started crying nonstop, you didn’t want to let him go, but you didn’t want to hold him back neither, so you just enjoyed this last moment with him.
Tumblr media
You were sitting on the bench by the river now, your eyes swollen and red by crying nonstop, but that didn’t stop you from shedding other tears
You were so focused on forgetting what happened with Omi- I mean.. Sakusa just now, you didn’t even tell him about your pregnancy anymore cause you already felt bad for holding him back, that you didn’t hear some footsteps approaching you
‘Hey.. you okay?’
You turned around and were met by beautiful golden eyes, it was a tall, blond, good-looking boy, maybe he was even around your age
‘Hmm actually no, but I can’t do anything about that’ you left a chuckle
He then sat beside you
‘Yea... I noticed you crying for a while now, please don’t be scared i mean no harm’
There was silence until he broke it
‘By the way my name’s Kise Ryota, I’m 18, andddd, how about we get to know each other so that you will stop thinking about what makes you sad?’
He flashed you a sincere smile
‘Fine by me, but let me warn you, my life’s not that interesting’
You chuckled and smiled at him sincerely

FACTS:
Kise Ryota is a character from ‘Kuroko no Basket’
Tumblr media
The story of the anime is really great, it’s similar to Haikyuu!!
The creator of Kuroko no Basket ‘Tadatoshi Fujimaki’ and ‘Haruichi Furudate’ the creator of Haikyuu!! are friends, Fujimaki-sensei helped Furudate-sensei in drawing sweat and volleyball attacking positions, and in return, Furudate-sensei treated him to ramen for an entire month

third time’s a charm | bokuto koutarou
a/n: posting this in advance hehe happy birthday to my golden boy, sunshine baby, and the best ace, bokuto! i am so. in love with him. thank you furudate-sensei for creating him :’)
pairing: bokuto x f!reader
wc: 2.4k words of mutual pining and birthday fluff.
summary: bokuto has been wanting to confess his feelings for you, but you take him by surprise.
Tumblr media
--
you met bokuto on your first year in fukurodani. despite being in the same year, you’ve only heard about him through stories told by classmates and friends. he was a powerful spiker, an up-and-coming volleyball ace, and you respected him for that.
it wasn't until that one rainy day that you met him. classes just finished and you were packing your things when the rain came pouring down. and it was only your luck that you forgot to bring an umbrella that day.
you hadn't realized how long you have been standing in the school entrance, near the shoe lockers, until you heard shuffling beside you. there was bokuto, seated on the doorway and tying his shoes. when he looked up at you, he was grinning from ear to ear - you've heard it was his signature smile - and it seemed to brighten up that rainy and gloomy afternoon.
'hey! wanna come home with me?' he said this so casually that you weren't sure if you heard him right. if anybody heard him, they could easily misinterpret him. he must have noticed that you were looking at him incredulously, 'oy! don't get me wrong! i just figured you didn't have an umbrella and we could maybe share! besides, we're going in the same way!'
how he knew where you lived was a mystery to you. of course, bokuto wouldn't admit that he had his eye on you for a while and that he passed by your classroom earlier, seeing you packing your things and noticed you didn't have an umbrella. you didn't want to question him further, because here he was offering you a safe and dry option to go home. so you accepted, 'i'd like that. thank you...'
'bokuto koutarou! but you can call me bokuto or koutarou. whichever you like really!' it was cute how he fumbled over his words, he hoped you didn't notice that he was too excited to be interacting with you. you smiled, 'thank you, bokuto. i'm y/n.'
on the walk home, bokuto proved to be a gentleman. his umbrella was big enough to cover the both of you but you noticed him tilting it to your side to make sure you didn't get wet from the rain. you guys made some small talk, catching up on your subjects, how the classes were treating you. you even asked him how volleyball was going for him.
when you finally arrived at your home, you thanked him and even offered to let him inside so he could dry himself. but he was shy and insisted that you can just pay him back at school then he went on his way. you were left standing at your door, wondering what he meant. but you couldn't deny that you were looking forward to getting to know him more.
the following morning, bokuto made his way to your class during lunch. he sat down at your desk, and it was as if you two were best buddies as he chatted with you and told you stories about his morning training. as much as you were surprised, you didn't mind it and indulged him. your classmates were a witness to the blossoming friendship between the two of you.
since that day, you and bokuto were inseparable. from helping him study, accompanying him in his extra trainings, and even going out of your way to make him cute little bentos, you showed him support in the ways you knew possible as his best friend. everyone thought you guys were dating. towards the end of the year, rumors were circulating that you and bokuto are together. you chose to ignore it, not wanting to ruin the wonderful friendship that you two shared.
however, unknown to you, those gossips were sparking something in bokuto. he always thought you were a great person - smart, attractive, kind. the recent talk in school made him realize that he saw you as a woman and he was yearning for something more with you.
so one day, bokuto decided that he was going to confess to you after school. when he dropped you off at your house, he stayed for a few minutes. he stood there in front of you, fidgeting and you thought it was cute. you figured he wanted to say something so you waited. but just as he finally mustered up the courage to say he likes you, the front door opened, revealing your dad. bokuto panicked and looked between you and your dad. 'hello sir! i was just taking her home.' he bowed and his gaze flitted over to you, 'i'll see you tomorrow at school!' and the boy ran away fast, leaving you and your father with confused looks on your faces.
second year arrived and you guys were closer than ever. however, you were both busy with club activities - you with student council responsibilities and bokuto with trainings and practice matches for the volleyball club.
the two of you saw each other in the hallways, stopping by to hug each other and have conversation before class started. sometimes, you would see each other in the cafeteria where he was often sitting with his team and you with your own group of friends. you would exchange knowing looks across the hall and both your friends would tease you. bokuto was already used to it, but you were always a blushing mess.
one morning, bokuto came to your the student council room before the classes started. you wondered what he was doing here, 'aren't you supposed to be in morning practice right now?' he smiles, 'yeah! but i wanted to introduce someone to you first!' he moves to the side and reveals a boy. it turns out the boy is named akaashi, a first year member of the volleyball club. he was a setter and bokuto was overly excited, complimenting him nonstop about his skills and how he makes a great addition to the team. akaashi was flattered, almost bashful, and you were amused seeing bokuto so fond of the younger boy.
easy to say, the introduction of akaashi also meant that your duo became a trio. much to bokuto's delight, you and akaashi got along so well. despite him being a year lower than you, you interacted with him comfortably. often, you would wait for the two boys to finish practice so the three of you can go home together. in between walks home, you would stop by cafes to try new food and drinks.
and being the observant person that he is, akaashi saw through the feelings that you and bokuto shared and he was puzzled as to why the both of you weren't still a couple. there were boys in his class who were asking him about you, if he can introduce them to you. but he would always politely turn them down, respecting the closeness of your relationship with bokuto.
there was a day when you had to skip on going home with them. you messaged them saying you had to stay back for student council duties. and as much bokuto and akaashi would have liked to wait for you, they had game tomorrow and had to rest to be in good condition so they went head. the walk was silent and akaashi was wondering if bokuto was on one of his moods. however, his worries were quickly dispelled when the older boy turned to him and asked, 'do you like y/n?' it surprised him but at the same time, akaashi found it amusing.
'no, bokuto-san. i believe y/n already has her eye on someone else.' he gave bokuto a knowing and encouraging look. 'you should try confessing to her. it wouldn't hurt letting her know about your feelings,' akaashi advised.
when bokuto settled in his home, he mulled over what akaashi told him. he wasn't that oblivious to recognize the many boys who were looking at you and wanting to make a move. it always crushed his heart whenever he thought he could lose you and your friendship once you entered a relationship. he knew he had to make his move, but he also knew how you were getting busy lately with student council. he didn't want to add to your stress, and to be honest, he was at the point of his volleyball career where he had to focus all his time on the sport. entering a relationship now when you were both busy would be futile. so in the meantime, he thought he'd wait for the right time and pushed back any plans to confess.
finally, you and bokuto were on your last year in high school. he made a promise to himself that he would properly ask you out before graduation. and it was like the gods of matchmaking and love were on his side as the two of you were finally on the same class!
he was thrilled, running up to you to hug you on the first day of school. he thought about the many opportunities he had to finally ask you the question. however, as seniors, there was the looming responsibilities of college entrance exams and last volleyball matches that kept you two busy.
often bokuto would whine to you in class, 'y/n!!!!!!!! why do i not see you anymore? this is torture.' you would always laugh at his dramatic ass, and to your classmates it was a sight to see the ace looking for your attention. yet much as you wanted to spend time with him, you had papers to help file for the council and exams to prepare for. but as his best friend, you would often make it up to him, going to his games to support him and giving him notes that he needed for the classes he missed. you were even helping him study for his own college exams on weekends.
your parents were getting concerned, worried that you were spending too much time outside on weekends instead of resting home. one time, before you left, your mom stopped you, 'why are you doing all this for bokuto? he's perfectly capable on his own, you know.' you stopped, remembering all the times bokuto would run to you for help on a subject, the times when he would call you to ask about a question. you liked how he depended on you, and deep inside you knew that a part of you depended on him too. you knew that if he decided to stop talking to you, he would be taking a piece of you with him.
you didn't get to answer your mother, only smiled at her as you left home for bokuto. but ideas were already swimming in your mind. you wanted to be with him for as long as god would allow you. if bokuto hadn't realized your feelings for him yet, you were going to take matters into your own hands.
which was how you found yourself on the school rooftop on the day of his birthday. today, you were going to confess. you spent weeks planning the event, even asking akaashi for help. you needed the younger boy to ask the coach to excuse bokuto in training and luckily, the coach agreed.
bokuto was confused as to why he was being excused, but only got an instruction from akaashi to go to the rooftop. so with hesitant steps, he went upstairs. when he got to the top floor, bokuto knocked on the door before opening it, revealing a surprised you as laid out the drinks and homemade food on the picnic blanket.
'what is going on here?' he arrived too soon for your liking and you were flustered. you hadn't finished setting up the plates yet, haven't even set up the music on your phone. but bokuto stepped forward, 'is this...'
you jumped up, extending your arms around your head and shouted, 'happy birthday, bokuto!' he stood still for a minute, digesting what was happening then he was walking towards you and scooping you up on your feet in an embrace.
the two of you laughed as he twirled you around, 'bokuto! stop, i'm gonna get dizzy!' when he put you down, he looked at you affectionately, 'thank you so much for this! you are the best!' and without missing a beat, you said, 'i love you, bokuto.'
you saw as his eyes grew wide, stepping a few feet away from you and you dreaded that he was going to reject you. he was walking in circles now and you were getting anxious for the lack of reply. so you went to him, grabbed him by the shoulders to stop him in tracks. 'did you hear what i said?'
he nodded, but still kept silent. you continued, 'well, are you just going to ignore that?' you were unfair, bokuto thought. he pouted and looked down to avoid your gaze, 'but i wanted to be the one to say it first.' now it was your turn to be shocked, and before you knew it you were moving closer to give him his gift.
your hands on his cheeks and the touch of your lips on his caught bokuto by surprise. it took him a while to register it but here you were, the love of his life, kissing him. seconds passed and he was kissing you back, he put his hands on your waist, pulling you closer and deepening the kiss. he moved one hand to caress your cheek lovingly.
when he pulled away, he gave you a peck on the forehead. smirking, he declared, 'be my girlfriend?'
you wrapped your arms around his neck, standing on your tiptoes to kiss his nose, 'i have been waiting for you to say that.' this time he blushed, hiding his face in the crook of your neck and he thought about what did he do to deserve you.
'this is the best birthday ever.'

Yamguchi x Reader (Meeting the team)
A/n: I don’t know how this ended up so long. Not my best writing for sure, but I got it done.
Warnings: Little bit of angst from slightly insecure reader but it ends in fluff don’t worry.
Words: 2k
Disclaimer: I don’t own Haikyuu or any of its characters. All rights belong to Furudate-sensei.
(Story below cut)
“Why haven’t you met the volleyball team yet?” The vice-president of the student council asked you as the two of you walked towards the office to hand in a stack of club forms. “Isn’t your boyfriend part of the team? I heard they have a really big tournament coming up.”
You gave a bashful smile to your upperclassman, “He always insists on picking me up from the student council room since we end club activities around the same time. I guess I never really had time to think about it.”
“Hm, I guess that makes sense. You are the first year representative, so it’s not like you have a lot of free time.” With a contemplative look, she continued, “Still, they seem like a close team, so you should probably at least introduce yourself.”
Before you could respond, you realized you had reached your destination. Putting the conversation on hold, you went in and briefed the teacher in charge of student council supervision on the changes in clubs from the previous year’s. Despite being only a first year, you had been placed in charge of managing club activities while the president focused on other areas of the school. Of course, you had the vice-president to help, but it was a time-consuming task you had thrown yourself into on your first day in your determination to prove yourself.
Once everything was settled, the two of you walked out of the office towards the student council room. The silence gave you time to think about what the other girl had said. Maybe she’s right? They do seem important to him. You thought to yourself.
Seeing your face scrunched up in concentration, your upperclassman laughed, “Are you thinking about your boyfriend?”
You blush at the fact that she read you so easily. It was one of your many traits, but you never got used to how easily some people could read you.
Ruffling your hair as she often did to her kohai, she smiled and pointed in the direction of the gym, “Why don’t you go over there now? We just have to record our hours and tidy up the room a little, and I can do both for you. Go surprise him!”
Feeling encouraged by your senpai’s enthusiasm, you nod gratefully and run until you hear the tell tale signs of squeaking shoes on the gym floor. With your adrenaline running high, you don’t hesitate going through the door but regret your decision as soon as you feel all eyes turn to you.
A beat of silence passed.
“WOAAAHHH A PRETTY GIRL CAME TO WATCH OUR PRACTICE!” A short boy with spiky brown hair shouted. Stars were practically shining through his eyes.
“Thank you Kami-sama for blessing us with this sight.” A bald boy said with his hands clapped together as if he were praying. If you squinted you could almost see a holy light shining down on him.
“Pretty!!” The short orange haired boy blurted out. Wait, is that Hinata? You briefly wondered before your view was blocked by a tall figure.
“Y/n? What are you doing here?” Your boyfriend asked while shielding you with his frame and grabbing your hand.
“Hehe,” you chuckled nervously. Hopefully he wouldn’t get mad, not that Tadashi has ever really gotten mad at you before. “Surprise?”
A blush spread over the green haired boy’s face. It didn’t take much for him to get flustered. Honestly, the fact that he is dating you still baffles him despite the months you’ve been together. Seeing your slightly nervous smile made his stomach flutter with butterflies.
“Oi, why is this shorty disturbing our practice time?” An irritated voice came from behind your protective wall.
You could see your boyfriend’s face visibly pale. Wondering why he seemed more nervous than usual, you peeked around him only to see a tall, cold looking blonde haired boy. He was staring down at you with a sneer as if you were more disgusting than the dirt on his shoes.
Well excuuuuse me.
Feeling the rare rebellious side bubble up in you, you stepped out from behind your boyfriend and marched up to the taller boy. Jabbing your index finger into his chest, you glared fiercely at him, “And who do you think you are to be so rude to someone you just met. It’s not my fault you guys stopped practicing just because I walked in. If you care so much, why don’t you go play by yourself over there?”
As soon as you finished your rant, you realized what you had just said and who you said it to. Oh my god I just yelled at my boyfriend’s teammate. Tadashi’s probably so embarrassed by me.
A familiar hand stopped you in your thoughts. Looking up, you saw your boyfriend glaring at the blonde boy. The laughter from his other teammates at your outburst suddenly died down as they took in the sight before them. Even blondie seemed confused at the situation.
“Tsukki.” Tadashi said in an eerily calm voice. You had only heard him use this tone once and it was when he had found you being hit on a guy who refused to take no as an answer. “I don’t know what’s been wrong with you lately, but I won’t tolerate you insulting my girlfriend. I don’t care that we’ve been best friends for years. She did nothing to deserve your rude comments.”
A few chokes were heard coming from the other boys but were quickly silenced by the grey haired boy. A shocked expression flashed across the blonde boy’s, Tsukki you reminded yourself, face before it quickly shifted back to an annoyed one. You were prepared for more insults, but instead he just sneered at you again and walked away.
The atmosphere felt heavy, but your boyfriend simply grabbed your hand once more and gave you a bright smile. You gave him a weak smile in response. A sinking feeling settled in your chest. This hadn’t been your intention. You didn’t want to ruin his relationship with his teammates much less his best friend.
But why haven’t I heard of Tsukki before if he’s Tadashi’s best friend? You wondered as you were guided by the team manager to a spot where you could wait for the rest of practice to be over. Surely he would’ve wanted me to meet him, right? Unless… he was ashamed to have me as his girlfriend.
Your thoughts continued to spiral as the practice wore on. As the boys continued playing, you could no longer focus and decided to head out for some fresh air. You wondered if you should just head home. It would be bad if your presence caused even more trouble for Tadashi. He’s been nothing short of the perfect boyfriend for you; the least you could do is not cause tension between him and his teammates.
As you started heading towards the exit, you heard someone calling your name. Turning around, you saw Sugawara, whom you’ve talked to before since he was the vice captain, calling out to you.
“Sugawara-senpai, did you need something from me?” You asked politely. The tears that had been about to spill still lingered but only if you looked close enough.
Giving you a sympathetic look, he said softly, “Why don’t you wait a bit. I’m sure Yamaguchi-kun would want you to stay.”
“I’m not so sure about that.” You mumbled quietly, almost to yourself.
“What makes you say that?”
You hesitated not knowing if you should tell him about your insecurities. When you looked up, you locked eyes and saw only an almost motherly compassion in his eyes. That was all it took for your worries to come spilling out.
“Tadashi talks about you guys all the time and how much he wants to help the team make it to nationals. And he works so hard every day! I’ve seen him nearly collapse from exhaustion because he decided to practice his float serves. Since you guys are so important to him, I just wanted to meet you all but instead I made a big mess. And, and,” you hiccup a little, tears streaming down your cheeks, “I guess I just thought if I were important to him he would have told you guys about me… but clearly that wasn’t the case because his best friend didn’t even know who I was.”
“Y/n…” A familiar voice called your name. Your eyes widened in shock. When had Tadashi come out… scratch that, when had the whole team come out?
You didn’t have time to question it before you were engulfed by a warm hug. Instinctively, you hugged Tadashi back. You could feel him shaking slightly as he whispered in your ear, “Please don’t ever think you’re not important to me. You’re the most important person in the world to me.”
The tears that had been pricking your eyes turned to tears of happiness at his words. You pressed your face closer to his chest where his heart was beating a mile a minute.
“Are you done?” A familiar flat voice came from behind your boyfriend.
A sense of dejavu washed over you. Instead of getting angry like last time, you shied away from the blonde haired boy. You peeked up at your boyfriend and was shocked to see him glaring even more harshly at the other boy.
Not wanting another incident, you stepped out from around your shield. You met his eyes, “I know you don’t approve of my relationship with Tadashi, but you aren’t his parents. I don’t need your approval to date him. Hopefully we can sort out our differences because I’m sure as Tadashi’s best friend you also don’t want to make him choose sides.”
“Tch,” He grunted. His eyes never left yours as he assessed your sincerity. After a beat of silence, he turned away, grumbling out, “Whatever.”
The hope you had at reconciling with him died as you watched his retreating figure head back into the gym. You didn’t even see the knowing looks on the other boys’ faces as they, too, headed back inside to give you some privacy. Feeling disappointed, you turned to your boyfriend to apologize only to stop when you see an excited look on his face.
“Tadashi…?”
“How did you do that? Wait it doesn’t matter! Thank you for being patient enough to deal with him for me.” He cried with sparkles in his eyes as he glomped you with another hug.
“But, he just… what?” You spluttered in confusion.
Laughing a little, Tadashi explained, “That wasn’t him dismissing you. That was his way of saying that he accepts and respects you which is more than I was hoping for.” He looked at you shyly, “I was kind of afraid you would leave me since I had a best friend like him. He’s not a bad guy, but he can be a little insensitive to others.”
Slapping him on his chest, you glared, “Excuse me, cut me some slack. Our relationship means more to me than you having a salty best friend.” You paused thinking about how ready he looked to fight his best friend for you and said, “Thank you for sticking by me. I know we’ve only been dating for a few months, but you are my most precious person and I just want to make you happy. I’m glad you don’t have to choose between me and your best friend.”
Something wet dripped onto your cheek and you peered up to see tears streaming down his cheeks.
“Wha- wait don’t cry!” You try to console him but he stops you.
“Y/n. I love you. I love you so much. Will you… will you wear my jersey to the Interhigh Spring Tournament?” The hope shining in his eyes makes your heart melt into goo.
“I would love to Tada-kun. I love you too.” You tell him, bringing him back into a close embrace. The two of you stand there hugging for a while longer simply enjoying each other’s presence.

Higurashi: When They Cry AU: Confusion Arc
Summary: Satoshi murdered his aunt.... Didn’t he? Satoshi struggles with what is real and isn’t as his friends try to help him. Only one person can really put his mind at ease: Keiichi Maebara.
CH 1: Enter Keiichi Maebara (Previous CH.)
(next CH.)
Tumblr media
Satoshi stared ahead at the chalkboard, his head felt fuzzy and he couldn’t seem to focus. Around him, his classmates talked amongst themselves, enjoying their lunches. Their words didn’t register, it was as if they were speaking an entirely different language. Satoshi couldn’t seem to even begin to eat his meal, white noise filling his ears.
“Satoshi-kun?” A voice called his name, and he jumped, looking up to see Mion with a worried expression on her face, he shook his head, quickly smiling.
“Sorry, could you repeat that?” He asked, knowing by the look on her face that she had asked him something.
“I said,” Mion spoke gently, and it made Satoshi feel bad. He didn’t want her to think she had to be gentle with him just because he was a little out of it. “How’s Satoko?” Satoshi frowned, thinking about his little sister who was still stuck in the Irie Clinic after having a breakdown when their Uncle Teppei had returned a month ago. See, Uncle Teppei had vanished after Aunt Tamae died, leaving Satoshi and Satoko to their own devices. Everything had been fine for a while, and Satoshi had begun to believe they would actually get to be happy… For once. Yet here they were. Satoshi felt he was back at the start, that all of the events that happened last year were for nothing. A cold shiver ran down his spine as he remembered what happened on the night of the Watanagashi Festival a year ago, or rather what happened the next morning:
Satoshi sat up, a cold sweat breaking out across his body. Satoshi tried to recall what had happened once more. He had passed out in front of the Furude Shrine after remembering…. Remembering he had…. Had what? Satoshi scrunched up his face, desperately trying to retrieve his memory, but the horrifying thoughts had long passed, and he had forgotten most of it like he would any other dream. Maybe it had all been an awful nightmare, maybe he had been sleep walking and-
“Oh good, you’re awake!” A voice said from his left, Satoshi glanced over, seeing Dr. Irie.
“Coach…?” He asked quietly, and Irie smiled at him. “What….” He trailed off, noticing Satoko in the corner of the room. “Satoko!” Satoshi tried to get up and go to her, but Irie held out his hand, signaling for Satoshi to stay put.
“Careful,” Irie said sternly. “You’ve suffered a mild concussion.” He explained, and Satoshi frowned, sitting back in bed. Why wouldn’t Satoko look at him?
“Oh.” Satoshi replied, concern clear on his face. Not for himself, but for his little sister who looked distraught. Had she been that worried about him? Satoshi felt guilt pang in his chest, knowing he had caused his little sister so much stress.
“There’s something you should know,” Irie said softly, while checking Satoshi’s vitals.
“What is it?” Satoshi asked, glancing nervously at Satoko. Was she sick again?
“Your aunt…” Dr. Irie took off his glasses and sighed, “I’m sorry to tell you while you’re injured, but she passed away in a house fire last night.” Satoshi felt his blood run cold. She what? Suddenly memories of this morning came flooding back, he remembered smelling smoke… That must’ve been their house.
“.... What about Uncle?” Satoshi asked, confusion clear in his voice.
    “He’s disappeared.”
Satoshi brought himself out of his memories and smiled at Mion. “She’s doing better.” He answered, knowing that wasn’t entirely the truth. Satoko was catatonic, and wouldn’t even respond to him.
“That’s great! Maybe she’ll get to come back to school soon,” Mion said, smiling. “We miss her.” Satoshi smiled sadly. So did he.
Suddenly a ruckus broke out from behind them, and Satoshi turned in his chair, looking back to where the sound had come from.
“That is so unfair, Rena!” Keiichi cried, as Rena laughed wickedly.
“It’s the rules, Keiichi-kun!” Rena practically sang, plucking the dessert out of his bento. “But if you’re nice, maybe I’ll give you a bite!” She giggled. Satoshi smiled a little. They looked like they were having fun.
“You know, you could always sit with us.” Mion said, as if reading his mind. Satoshi frowned a little. He wanted to, he really did! Keiichi always made him laugh, and had been a nice addition since he moved here a few months ago, and he loved his friends, but it didn’t feel right for him to have fun at school while Satoko was stuck at the clinic.
“No… Maybe next time.” Satoshi stood, his lunch still untouched. “I just remembered, I need to run a few errands for my uncle,” Satoshi said. Grabbing his bag he made his way to the door.
“Aren’t you going to eat first?” Mion called, and Satoshi shook his head.
“Not hungry.” Satoshi said quietly, exiting the classroom. Mion sighed, making her way back to her seat across from Keiichi.
“Where’s he going?” Keiichi asked, and Mion frowned.
“To run errands for his uncle.” She practically spit the word ‘uncle’, and Rena looked sadly down at her food. Keiichi frowned, he felt like there was something no one was telling him.
“Is his uncle a jerk or something?” Keiichi asked, taking a bite of a rice. Mion shot a look to Rena before answering.
“Let’s just say…. Their uncle isn’t the kindest.” Mion said flatly, causing Keiichi to furrow his eyebrows.
“What does that mean?” Keiichi asked, pushing for further answers.
“He’s abusive.” Rena said, her voice tightly strung. Keiichi sucked in a breath, he wasn’t expecting that.
“Rena!” Mion scolded, before looking at Keiichi. “We try not to talk about it, we don’t want to upset Satoko or Satoshi.” Keiichi felt himself starting to get angry.
“Wait, he hits them? Is he the reason Satoko is at the clinic?” He demanded, worry clear in his voice.
“Not entirely… Satoko has had problems before…” Mion said, playing with her food, her appetite gone. They were silent for a few moments.
“Do the adults know?” Keiichi asked, and Mion nodded. “Then why hasn’t anyone done anything yet?” He demanded, and Mion sighed.
“It’s not that easy.” Mion said, “Last year I tried to report the abuse, but they didn’t take me seriously.” Mion said, sadness tracing her tone.
“Well why the hell not?” Keiichi asked, his food now pushed to the side of the desk.
“Because Satoko has made a false claim before.” Mion said, Keiichi looked at her in confusion. “She wanted to get her stepdad in trouble, so she said he was abusing her..”
“And now no one will take the abuse seriously..” Keiichi finished, and Mion nodded. Suddenly, Chie-Sensei walked into the classroom, Rika following behind her. Lunch was over, and while everyone was curious as to what Rika had been talking about with their teacher, the rest of the day proceeded as always, but it felt empty without Satoshi or Satoko.
Satoshi swallowed hard as he stood outside of his uncle’s house. Hands holding onto grocery bags full of beer and a carton of cigarettes, Satoshi didn’t want to go inside. He wanted to run, run far away and never look back, but the idea of leaving scared him. What would happen to Satoko if he fled? Would Teppei demand her back from the clinic? Then what? Satoshi gritted his teeth, he wouldn’t leave her to this fate. No, he would face it head on himself, until he could take Satoko and get far away from everyone who wanted to harm them. Taking a deep breath, he walked inside. The house smelled of cigarette smoke, and the TV was on full volume.
“Satoshi?” Teppei called, and Satoshi made his way to the living room, holding the bags. “Didya get my shit?” Teppei asked, and Satoshi nodded. He knew better than to speak, his words were always twisted by his uncle, no matter how softly he spoke or how gentle he was. Teppei held out his hand, and Satoshi handed him the bags. Rifling through them, Teppei made a sound of displeasure, one that put Satoshi on high alert.
“Is something wrong, Uncle?” Satoshi asked, and Teppei stood from his chair.
“Damn right,” Teppei growled, pulling out a pack of cigarettes. “I asked you to get me two cartons, why did you only get one?” He demanded, moving closer to Satoshi, who quickly stepped back.
“I...I..” Satoshi stammered, trying to answer the question, but the looming man that towered over him made it difficult. Although Satoshi hated to admit it, he was terrified.
“Spit it out, you little shit!” Teppei yelled, pushing him into the living room wall.
“They were sold out!” He answered anxiously, sweat breaking out across his forehead.
“Then where’s the rest of my money?” Teppei demanded in a mocking nervous tone. Satoshi frantically reached into his left pocket. No wallet. Frowning, he reached into his right one, nothing. Panic arose in his chest. He must’ve lost his wallet! “Answer me!” Teppei roared, and Satoshi felt himself shrink away from the man who smelled heavily of alcohol. Satoshi believed if he lit a match within a five foot radius of his uncle that he’d go up in flames.
“I lost my wallet.” Satoshi said finally, admitting defeat he let his shoulders sag.
“That’s not going to be the only thing  you lose.” Teppei threatened, and Satoshi closed his eyes, waiting for the inevitable punishment.
Hours later, Satoshi found himself standing outside of Keiichi Maebara’s house. He didn’t know how he got here, he had just been walking around for a couple of hours now, since his uncle had kicked him out and told him not to come back without the money. Satoshi searched for his wallet for a while, but eventually gave up. Someone must have stolen it. Satoshi took a deep breath, turning on his heel, he began to walk away from the house, when he heard a voice.
“Satoshi?” Keiichi asked, the front door opening and closing. Satoshi took a deep breath in. Within a few seconds, a hand was on his shoulder. “Hey, are you okay?” Keiichi asked, and while Satoshi was tired of being asked that by everyone, he didn’t feel as irritated when Keiichi asked. Satoshi slowly turned, and Keiichi tried to keep the shock off of his face. Satoshi was suiting a fresh black eye and dry blood stuck to his busted bottom lip.
“Haha, yeah!” Satoshi smiled, “I was just taking a walk.”
“What happened to you?” Keiichi asked, even though he already knew the answer.
“Oh uh.. This? I was playing some baseball and there were a few stray balls.” Satoshi laughed, the sadness coating it made Keiichi’s chest ache. “Guess I’m just unlucky, huh?” Satoshi smiled.
“Want to come in?” Keiichi asked, nodding his head towards the house. Satoshi hesitated, looking at the house. He could see the lights on inside, and could even smell the cooking from outside. It smelled amazing, Satoshi couldn’t remember the last time he had a hot meal.
“I, uh, probably shouldn’t,” Satoshi said, rubbing the back of his neck. He needed to find his wallet. “I lost my wallet and…” He trailed off.
“I can help you find it!” Keiichi offered, much to Satoshi’s surprise.
“I wouldn’t want to trouble you, it’s okay, really-” Satoshi said, a blush breaking out across his cheeks. Keiichi grinned at him, slapping his back a little too hard.
“It’s no problem!” Keiichi assured. “Friends help each other.” Satoshi smiled a little at his words, Keiichi considered him a friend. “But I do have one condition.” Keiichi said, causing Satoshi to look at him in confusion.
“What is it?” Satoshi asked timidly, thinking about the punishment games Keiichi had come up with for their club.
“Stay for dinner.”

Iwaizumi Hajime & Oikawa Tooru: character- couple analysis: who wore the galaxies, who lightened up the stars?
• Written by me.
• Personal thoughts.
• Ao3 link here
Tumblr media
"What I am saying then is just because you don’t know how you manage to be conscious, how you manage to grow and shape your body, doesn’t mean that you’re not doing it. Equally, if you don’t know how the universe shines the stars, constellates the constellations, or galactifies the galaxies – you don’t know but that doesn’t mean that you aren’t doing it just the same way as you are breathing without knowing how you breathe."
----Alan Watts from the book The Essence of Alan Watts Vol. 4: Death (1975)
---------------
On Facebook, there is a topic that came up like this: Can you guys try to list out how many rival pairs are there in Haikyuu?
Someone suggested Hinata and Kageyama. Others said it’s obviously like the relationship between Nekoma and Karasuno, or the equal of Nishinoya and Yaku's abilities. Speaking of the barrier, there's Aone, there's Tendou, there's Matsukawa. Although a bit skewed, there are people who think that this is Bokuto, Kuroo.
At that time, I thought like this: You know, Iwaizumi and Oikawa are also rivals.
The beginning of their story begins with a few small images: Oikawa with the passion for volleyball from an early age, and Iwaizumi who was drawn to his fanciful hobby even when his full attention had been put into the racquet he used to catch insects and forests. Starting from that prologue, Oikawa Tooru's world only had volleyball, and Iwaizumi Hajime's world only had Oikawa Tooru. Although I was very hesitant in writing all the above, but I don’t think that is wrong. If everyone has carefully watched the anime and even read the manga, people will see almost any frame, when Furudate-sensei describes Oikawa's growth, Iwaizumi is always there for him. Supporting him, looking at him, staying behind him. Never once did Iwaizumi exploit anything other than volleyball and Oikawa, perhaps the world for Iwaizumi is just Oikawa, to go to school in the morning, to study, play volleyball together. Perhaps not just a friend, Iwaizumi to Oikawa is a quiet walk after a late workout, a light from a window in a dark night, a clenched fist that adds more warmth. Surely, even when Iwaizumi was just a child, his thoughts were like this: He is simple-minded, he is very stubborn, a crybaby, and he doesn’t know how to take care of himself. I have to look after him, I have to be here. I should be the support he needs, I should take care of him.
Because Iwaizumi Hajime has always been like this: hot-tempered but easy-going, grumpy but firm with his own gentle tenderness. He doesn't ask for anything, because maybe for Iwaizumi, just as long as Oikawa is okay, he is fine either. Oikawa is his best friend, the person he cares about the most, rather than the fact that he didn't start with a love for volleyball like Oikawa, more than an insect cage and racket. Iwa-chan, Iwa-chan, look, this serve is great, let's play volleyball. It’s okay, Oikawa. I choose you.
And then what?
Oikawa collapses in front of him, doesn’t even have even a bit of joy for playing volleyball. This is not just a painful pain for Oikawa, but it is snatching what Iwaizumi wants most- which he has always tried hard to collect and preserve- and shatter to pieces. Iwaizumi was there when Oikawa started his passion for volleyball and watched the way it sprouted around him, unable to stop Oikawa from his own guilt. Iwaizumi was there when they entered the middle school together, became captain and ace, and lost at the hands of Shiratorizawa. Yet it's still not that he can save Oikawa from that painful black hole in the end, until Oikawa explodes in front of him, until Iwaizumi almost couldn’t stop from gung further, before he can do anything with the younger setter that year.
On many forums, websites, media types, in fact, there are many people who have different opinions: think about it, Iwaizumi can choose a softer and less violent way to wake Oikawa up isn't it? Why does he always have to be so violent like that? Are they really friends? They're teammates, aren't they?
The answer is: only because they’re teammates, that they can treat each other as so.
Because they’re friends, Iwaizumi can bring all the anger in him down on Oikawa with a hit on the head. Listen carefully, the sounds from the invisible story page, the sounds that literary minds bring you. The frown on Iwaizumi's face, the way his fists tighten around Oikawa's collar before he gives him a bump on the forehead, they're saying it too.
If they were a normal friends, would it be possible to one of them to immediately hit the other person? If they were only normal friends, would you not hesitate, not be afraid of anything, not feel upset and do something like that?
I'm not promoting violence, I'm trying to understand the emotions that are cornered into muscular movement, in a person who has always been familiar with the watching position, with the role of a supporter.
The blow that Iwaizumi gave to Oikawa, is exactly the same as the punch Oikawa was almost swung towards Kageyama without thinking. If Iwaizumi wasn’t there, what would happen after? But of course, we have no chance to discuss that subject, because Iwaizumi was there, sliding right where he needed to be as if the universe was always, always watching them. Certainly a part of him wanted to scream: look! Feel it! This is what you intend to do with Kageyama! Think it through, what are you thinking? You are a fool! You really have no cure!
But he didn’t. Instead, he said:
“Among us, no one has the ability to win against Ushiwaka in a one-on-one match. But damn, volleyball has six people on the court and that must have a reason! Even if the person on the other side of the net is a first-year genius or Ushiwaka, six who are stronger are stronger!”
Maybe that's what Oikawa wants to hear the most. Perhaps Oikawa doesn't want to hear people call him the best setter, doesn't want to hear people praise him anymore. Perhaps what Oikawa wants is someone to come over and tell him that no one can win against Ushijima alone, that he has already tried his best, that he doesn't need to worry anymore, just rest. Now it's everyone's turn. The people on the same side of the net are all his allies, Oikawa had Kitagawa Daiichi by then, just that he didn't realize they were what he needed until Iwaizumi told him that. He had been rolling around in those hellish years, hurting himself, pressing himself on the involuntary burden like Atlas with the eternal punishment of carrying the earth on his shoulders. Oikawa has never wondered then, what about the other thing?
The joy he craved when playing volleyball.
"Suddenly, I feel invincible."
Feeling that there's nothing that could win over him right then, it's because Oikawa Tooru suddenly realized he was with such a person.
Instead of advising Oikawa Tooru to remove the burden of this planet from his shoulders, Iwaizumi Hajime suggested them to do it together until they couldn't anymore, until the world crumbled on their shoulders.
Instead of smooth and sad goodbye words, Iwaizumi Hajime said that you are the partner I can boast, an excellent setter. No matter which team you join, that fact will never change.
You know, Iwaizumi Hajime is a guy with a lot of "didn't", with a lot of "instead", only for Oikawa Tooru.
Oikawa Tooru is a proud and arrogant jerk, enjoying jokes and compliments about himself. Think, when you are being called "excellent setter", what kind of face would you have? In each match, when you look at the opponent, what kind of face would you have? A smirk, probably. Brown eyes quickly become sharp but a little arrogant, it's also right to say that Oikawa Tooru is a complacent, but it is not wrong to think that he knows his ability, aware of what he is, what he should do to keep it up, how he is better than others, how people look up on him.
However, after watching the anime, I felt like the kind of looks Oikawa gave Iwaizumi when he finished their challenge, was something stranger. I mean, Oikawa has been praised a thousand times before, right? Surely he must not be too surprised anymore? Yet he is. The pupils opened their eyes wide with every single of Iwaizumi's words, he probably couldn't believe this was the person three years ago who slammed his forehead into Oikawa’s face. When Iwaizumi ends his impromptu speech and Oikawa turns around to face Iwaizumi, there is a kind of emotion in his eyes that is usually not there when Oikawa receives a compliment. It is called warmth. It is called pride. It is called a tender emotion, the noble respect between two friends that not everyone can have, when both find themselves stopping by the familiar park, under the moonlight.
"..... But when we confront each other, I will definitely defeat you"
“I have no intention of losing either."
For everyone, this is simply Iwaizumi's fight with Oikawa, or a hint about what will happen in the future, for example, that they will meet again even if they choose two different schools. For me, this is Iwaizumi's last respect for Oikawa when their high school volleyball career is over, as the two prepare to turn to a new chapter of their lives without the other person.
Do you know? Considering someone as a peer competitor is a kind of gentle respect.
Talking about personal issues again, for a while I was very determined to complete the literature test my school took in order to be able to be in the excellent students team. There was this girl in the same class as me who attended the test with me, and when it came to the exam day, she jokingly asked me that because we are in the same class, that can I go easy on her. I also just smiled back then, but actually in my head, I kept thinking. I didn't tell her, but I wanted to say no, I won't need to hold back on you. I will do my best if we compete with each other, because I respect you, because I know you are amazing and powerful enough to me to do that.
So, I think Iwaizumi means the same thing. The fact that he seriously considers Oikawa to be his opponent is kinda odd, because we've always been used to look at him as someone who silently looks after Oikawa, walking behind him, taking care of him. As Ushijima said, almost everyone tried to assert that without Oikawa, Aoba Johsai would be just a mediocre team. But no, after all, Iwaizumi was there, facing Oikawa, on equal position with Oikawa, forcing Oikawa to seriously accept himself as an opponent. Everyone knows this, but to me, I still want to say that Iwaizumi Hajime is really, really strong.
He doesn’t want to stay in the back anymore. He didn't want to be overshadowed by Oikawa, he didn't want to be silent, he wanted to stop watching. He wanted to take a step forward. He wants to be a rival to Oikawa.
Yesterday, while rewatching "Seijou after match", I was surprised to realize Oikawa's eyes were so soft, to realize Iwaizumi was always in his own way, steadfast and thorny until the last minute.
Perhaps Iwaizumi's wish at that time was more than just facing Oikawa on the court. It was his own way of expressing- apart from his deep respect- that he wants to see Oikawa again. He wants to be with Oikawa again, with anything related to volleyball. Perhaps all the little things that Iwaizumi Hajime wants is just to once again feel his connection with Oikawa, once again meet him when the two have became adults,
Once again,
Can be able to play volleyball together.
Oikawa Tooru is covered by the whole galaxy, but Iwaizumi Hajime is the one who lights up the stars.

chapter: 1/5 [ ao3 link ]
this was supposed to be written for tsukkiyama month. i know. but i didn't really follow the prompt anyway (day 29: manga artists) so i guess it's alright. happy tsukkiyama day, though!
the premise of this is that akiteru is a sports mangaka (he's actually writing haikyuu!! and that's why we can't figure out who furudate is) and yamaguchi is the plucky aspiring mangaka from the nearby art college that he hired to help him draw. Tsukishima Is Also There.
Kei's fishing his keys out of the side pocket of his bag when he notices the gangly boy pacing by the door of his apartment. Ah... Ya... Yamato is his name? That isn't quite right... Yama.... Something. When they met last week, he couldn't be bothered to care much about his name, or... anything, really. Maybe he should regret that now, but it's not like his opinion's changed much since then, anyway.
This person in particular... Even though when they'd met, he'd only been one of a series of strangers Kei was running into in his apartment, when Akiteru chose him for his assistant, he talked to Kei endlessly about his pros and cons. Kei only half-listened, but he got the gist of it. Something about not being the most technically talented, but Akiteru liked his attitude, and besides, that enthusiasm was kind of cute, right?
Cute... Looking at the boy now, with his hesitant smile and the way he fumbles with his cell phone, Kei knows it isn't the right word. Something along the lines of vulnerable would be more accurate. The first time Kei met him, he was anxiously scrubbing ink off his forearm at his kitchen sink, and when he saw Kei, his eyes grew so big Kei thought for a second that he was the stranger intruding on his apartment.
If he's cute, he's cute like a deer in the headlights, the kind of cute that makes you slam your foot on the brakes, that can paralyze you with fear and worry if you aren't careful. But Kei doesn't think that's what cute means at all.
Akiteru had been annoying about it, at least. He'd walked in on Kei having a civil conversation with a stranger and treated it like he'd walked in on Kei making out with someone against the kitchen sink. Thinking about it, Kei not learning his name must have been his subconscious being spiteful. Still, if even Kei did treat him differently from the other people Akiteru invited over, it was only that. "Vulnerable." He enjoys getting people riled up, not making them cry. That's always been more trouble than it's worth.
"Tsukishima-san!" the boy greets him, clumsily shoving his cell phone into the pocket of his jeans. "I'm glad you're here! Tsukishima-sensei isn't answering his phone, and-"
Kei moves past him, starts unlocking the door once he backs out of his way, completely unfazed. "Didn't Akiteru-nii text you? One of his college friends came to town and they're having lunch. You were supposed to come later."
"Oh, uh..." Kei shoves open the door, holds it open for the person behind him for just a second before he takes off his shoes and leaves them in the entryway. "I didn't get anything."
Leave it to Akiteru to forget. He shouldn't have scheduled something on his assistant's first day, anyway, no matter how short his friend's stay would be. Not that he takes the things Kei says to heart. "He should be back in an hour or so. You can wait here."
"Thank you, Tsukishima-san!" he says, beaming at him, and Kei looks away, ducking out of the room after saying something about changing his clothes.
When Kei comes back, he sees him sitting awkwardly at his and Akiteru's too-small kitchen table, looking absentmindedly at his phone. For a second, Kei's compelled to ask him if he needs anything, but he remembers how he likes to talk and decides against it, moving to his living room and turning on the monkey documentary he recorded earlier. Right as he's about to get absorbed into the television, he hears shifting at his side.
"You're watching the nature channel? I didn't know you'd like things like this!" he says, smiling at Kei, who only nods in response. "You know, I read a manga about monkeys once! Actually, it was about a man who worked at a zoo whose girlfriend wouldn't marry him because he worked at a zoo. I guess that makes sense, since it's kind of a weird job, but it messed up his self-esteem. Anyway, there was a monkey in it, and he helped him work out his problems - oh, also, he could talk to animals! So, uh..." He's silent for a second, and Kei reaches for the remote. "Monkeys are cool."
Kei pauses the program and looks at the person sitting next to him, who's biting his lip and whose cheeks are tinged slightly pink. Kei would be embarrassed, too. He wonders what's wrong with him, if he's always like this or uncomfortable right now, but maybe it's not wrong if it's something like this that makes him stand out. That he's so odd that Kei can't make fun of him for what he just said or let those words hang there. He's the kind of person you're scared will get knocked over by a gust of wind, but that isn't completely a bad thing, if compels people the way Kei is compelled right now. "I never heard of that," Kei says.
"Oh, uh, it... didn't run that long. Or in a popular magazine. I liked it, though!" He forces a laugh. "But it's not that interesting, you didn't have to-"
"It's fine." He... does like to talk, anyway. Indulging him for now isn't that big of an issue, since Akiteru is due any minute. "You can tell me about it, if you want."
He hesitates for a second, but eventually he starts talking, and Kei realizes just how much he has to say. Something about another person working at the zoo who has a crush on him, which is funny because then wouldn't both of them be working at the zoo, who would make the money? Something about how the romance wasn't well executed which was why it got axed, because the only other thing the manga had was the talking animals, which also wasn't executed well either. How that doesn't matter anywhere near as much in action or adventure manga because most of the audience isn't there for that anyway. It's about the quality of the adventure and the fights and the character arcs and-
Kei's never cared about manga more than sometimes picking up the monthly magazines his brother subscribes to and following the occasional series that pique his interest, and it isn't as if having this conversation (if you can call it that, one-sided as it is) suddenly makes him care. Still, there's something about the way he speaks that makes Kei not want him to stop. Akiteru loves manga, but the way this boy loves manga is of a completely different kind, something you can read in the way he looks when he's thinking about it but can't quite describe. The way all his vulnerability disappears when he speaks like this is.... something, when you see it.
Kei's contemplating this and nodding and maybe not listening when the sound of keys jingling by the apartment door snaps both of them out of it. "Ah, Tsukishima-sensei's here. Sorry I spoke too much."
"You shouldn't call him that," Kei says, considering standing up to get the door for his brother and deciding against it. He should probably clear the living room so Akiteru doesn't see him with his assistant, but he's too lazy to stand up, and Akiteru always finds something to tease him about, anyway.
"Eh?"
"Sensei. He'll be annoying about it. Just use '-san.'" Akiteru still hasn't gotten over the days Kei used to worship the ground he walked on, and that was years ago. Whenever Kei says something nice to him, he has to spend time thinking about how to phrase it a way that Akiteru won't be able to use against him when he makes a sarcastic jab at his expense. Of course having someone as earnest as the boy next to him around will definitely make Akiteru annoying, but Kei'd like to minimize it as much as possible.
"But I can't call both of you Tsukishima-san..." He bites his lip, and grins in a way Kei hasn't seen before. "Ah, then.... I'll stop if I can call you Tsukki."
Kei doesn't tell him not to.
Later, after he's gone home on the last train, Kei swallows his pride and asks Akiteru what his name is. After he finishes making fun of Kei, Akiteru finally says, "It's Yamaguchi Tadashi."
Yamaguchi. He was close, then, before. At least now he knows, even if Akiteru did react exactly the way he thought he would. "Thanks," he says, and he's about to go to his room when Akiteru stops him.
"Ah, wait. Just so you know, it's Tadashi with the kanji for 'loyalty.' Just like Hachiko. That's kind of cute, right?" Akiteru smiles the kind of shit-eating grin that makes Kei scowl, and he decides not to grace him with a response, turning back to leave.
But later, when Kei's alone in his room, Akiteru's terrible face the farthest image from his mind, he can't help but think to himself that maybe it is kind of cute, the Hachiko thing.

Bookshelf Briefs 5/22/17
Ace of the Diamond, Vol. 3 | By Yuji Terajima | Kodansha Comics (digital only) – Although the first years finally manage to score in their game against the upperclassmen, victory eludes them. Still, Eijun’s ability to fire up his teammates does not go unnoticed and his performance on the mound sees him promoted to the Junior Varsity squad. He’s not satisfied with the catcher he’s paired up with for practice, though. After attending the first game of the Kanto Tournament and seeing how much better a pitcher Furuya is, he accuses the morose catcher (Chris) of having given up on getting to Varsity, something he will never do. And then after he learns how completely wrong he was, he actually humbles himself and starts seriously trying to learn about baseball. Sniff! Our little shounen hothead is growing up! – Michelle Smith
Anonymous Noise, Vol. 2 | By Ryoko Fukuyama | Viz Media – I am probably liking this a lot more than I should, really. I am far too old to really be drawn in by teen angst, and there’s a lot of soap opera-ish stuff happening here. But I’m a sucker for untrained singers who make up for the lack of training through passion, mostly as it’s the sort of thing that in real life always sounds awful—but on the printed page it’s fine. Nino and Yuzu are drawn to each other in both healthy and unhealthy ways, and when we finally meet Momo again, he’s being just as unhealthy. These are three kids who have hit their teenage years with a whump, and drama is the watchword. But I dunno, something about the writing and characters makes me like this a lot. We’ll see how long it lasts. – Sean Gaffney
Bloom into You, Vol. 2 | By Nakatani Nio | Seven Seas – For parts of this volume, Bloom into You feels like a fairly standard yuri manga. There’s the part where a fellow student council member happens to see Touko and Yuu smooching, and the part where the vice-president clearly thinks she’s the only one Touko needs by her side. But towards the end of the volume, it veers once more into darker and more fascinating territory, as we learn that Touko is so driven to appear perfect due to family pressure to live on in the place of her amazing older sister who died seven years ago. She can’t bear for anyone to love either the real or the fake her, which is why she’s chosen Yuu, who ends up swearing never to fall in love with her even though she privately wishes she could. It’s nice to be reminded what turmoil lurks beneath the pleasant surface! – Michelle Smith
The Full-Time Wife Escapist, Vol. 2 | By Tsunami Umino | Kodansha Comics (digital only) – While there is still a lot of goofy charm in this title, mostly due to Mikuri’s imagination (we get a Les Miz takeoff here, as well as an enka number and some cheerleading chibis), the reality of the arrangement she’s entered into with Hiramasa is starting to fall apart at the seams. It’s really hard to pretend to be married, as there’s a lot of little details you can miss. Plus there’s also house-hunting (but do they really need one?), dental cavities (yes, she really does need a filling but what kind?), and Hiramasa’s growing feelings, which are… not really mirrored all that much by Mikuri, who sometimes seems almost asexual. We’ll see how well the marriage holds up in volume three, as there’s a nasty cliffhanger here. – Sean Gaffney
The Girl from the Other Side: Siúil, a Rún, Vol. 2 | By Nagabe | Seven Seas – The Girl from the Other Side loses just a teensy bit of its luster in this volume by actually trying to provide, or at least hint at, some answers. When Teacher catches an Outsider touching Shiva, he protects her valiantly, over her own protestations. Later, though, they seek out the creature again because it had hinted that it knew the whereabouts of Shiva’s aunt. It doesn’t, but leads them to a giant lake where Teacher encounters a mysterious hole in the ground and hears the Outsiders’ perspective on why the humans are the source of the curse. He doesn’t know what to believe, and meanwhile examines Shiva daily for symptoms. Then those odious humans get involved again and another volume ends with Shiva in peril. This time, Teacher’s seemingly not in a position to protect her. Still bringing the love, sorrow, and loneliness! – Michelle Smith
Haikyu!!, Vol. 11 | By Haruichi Furudate | Viz Media – This volume consists of Karasuno High’s team failing over and over again, trying things that don’t quite work, and getting pissed off with each other. But that’s as it should be, because you can’t stay static if you want to make it to the next level. The author does a very good job of showing a team that’s on the cusp of being great, if they can just pull everything together. And we’re beginning to see it… but it’s not quite there. And this being training camp, they can get advice from other teams, showing off super secret special moves that allow Hinata and company to add new talents to their repertoire. The goal here is to combine volleyball talent and instinct with intelligence. I wonder what will happen next. – Sean Gaffney
Interviews with Monster Girls, Vol. 4 | By Petos | Kodansha Comics – The whole point of this series is to see Takahashi-sensei interact with his demi students and see how they tick, and a lot of this happens outside of the classroom, so the reader may be forgiven for thinking that there are only demis in the school. But there’s lot of normal kids as well, and the charge comes down that Takahashi is not paying enough attention to them. While this is true in a sense, it’s also true that the demis do need more attention than the other students in various ways. What’s more, the “normal” students realize that treating the demis as if they’re just normal students as well may not be the best way to go. The metaphor for disabilities doesn’t always work, but this is still interesting for monster girl fans. – Sean Gaffney
My Hero Academia, Vol. 8 | By Kohei Horikoshi | Viz Media – While Midoriya is the star of this series, it’s very much an ensemble show, and this volume gives us a chance to see the entire class show off their smarts—or not in some cases. Sometimes you have to get over jealousy and dislike, sometimes you need to regain the confidence you once lost, and sometimes you’ve got to rely on your instincts (as well as being in denial about your feelings for the hero). But of course Midoriya is the star, and so a lot of the back half of the volume goes to him, as he’s accosted by Shigaraki, who’s ironically even scarier when he takes the severed hand off his face. In the meantime, more training, more horrible situations designed to make a hero stronger. Also, Mineta is the worst, y’all. – Sean Gaffney
My Neighbor Seki, Vol. 9 | By Takuma Morishige | Vertical Comics – Seki is down to twice a year, but this is still a good solid volume, relying very much on the core plot of My Neighbor Seki—what is he doing this time, and how will Yoroi react? As with volume eight, there seem to be more examples of Seki’s games rebounding on him rather than making trouble for Youko. The best chapters see him working with transparent glue, taking the bear family for a helicopter ride gone horribly wrong, and getting so caught up in roleplaying that he loses himself in the role (twice). Best of all, Yoroi ends up at a sweets shop where Mrs. Seki works, and has to hide the increasingly desperate artwork apologizing for her son’s antics, showing that such tactics do run in the family. – Sean Gaffney
Tokyo Tarareba Girls, Vol. 3 | By Akiko Higashimura | Kodansha Comics (digital only) – This volume made me seriously consider giving up on Tokyo Tarareba Girls. Not because it is bad, but because the three main characters keep making such awful decisions. Koyuki finds out that her married boyfriend lied about being separated from his wife and failed to mention he had kids, but forgives him. Kaori knows she’s not even the only woman on the side for her ex, but she still comes when he calls. They’re both so desperate for someone to be nice to them that they’ll accept something that isn’t real. It’s so depressing! And then there’s Rinko, who botches a big assignment and makes a total lush of herself and UGH. They’re all making their own problems worse and it’s hard to watch. That said, I get creepy vibes from Rinko’s new boyfriend, so will at least have to check out volume four to see what his deal is. – Michelle Smith
