#I loved hearing Rhys rant about his interests
Text
Yeah I watched the panel, I can’t say I’m very happy with it though. I know the host had a job and is told what to say, but you could tell she wasn’t an actual fan of the show and just cared about asking the questions. Poor Rhys was being left out at the end and had even mentioned he couldn’t hear the host properly, the group was trying so hard to make it work and made me laugh a lot. They act like such a family and it’s so heartwarming, I just wish the host was more interactive and listened to them, she fully blanked Rhys! He’s mentioned before that he finds panels overwhelming and yet he still does it for us, let’s all take a moment and appreciate him!!
Also I love how Con said that if anyone upsets Rhys, they have to go through all of them first🥹

Rant time
You know what annoys me to no end? Is when people turn Azriel and his affection towards Elain into some twisted sexual thing and frame him as a sex pest, who only wants to fuck her. The claim that the quote ‘he didn’t get that far in his planning’ is an indicator of his sex-only desires.
But I wonder--what is it that you would like for him to do?
Kidnap Elain? Murder Lucien? Assault her? Force her? Demand she reject the bond?
Elain has a BOND. This miraculous insane thing that they are all led to believe will result in glorious connection and holy matrimony (or something). He sees Rhys and Feyre with their elephant-sized bond, parading in their love-induced coma because of it. He lives with Cassian and Nesta and, unfortunately, hears, sees and smells what the bond does to them.
Now, he sees Elain with the bond. And he CAN’T ACT. Because it’s her choice. He can’t plan for anything. He can’t assume anything. Because how can he stand up to the Bond? It’s perfectly logical that he doesn’t make any plans that involve her (or children, based on his conversation with Cassian), because while he might suspect that she is not into this bond thing at all, but he can’t force himself into that decision making.
And it’s been three years! Three years he’s been keeping his cool. Three years he’s been controlling himself, his desire, his interest. Cassian was all over Nesta while she was still human! Rhys and Feyre--2 months from when she left Tamlin and they mated. This guy is sitting on 3 years! He does not spy. He does not demand. He leaves her alone. He leaves Lucien alone. He doesn’t act. Why? Because he respects her and her decision.
If he was a crazed sex pest asshole who only cared about his dick, he probably would’ve murdered Lucien a LONG time ago, and the body would never be found. If he was interested in only sex, would he wait until Elain made the final move? Would he not be all over her? Offering to whack Lucien if only that’s what she wanted? We all know he isn’t the biggest fan of the Vanserra family, so I don’t think he’d be too broken up over Lucien.
But at this point, he restrains himself. Why? Because of her. Because he doesn’t want to hurt HER, even if it kills him. Because just killing Lucien would automatically hurt her profoundly, if that bond isn’t properly rejected and just yanked and forcefully destroyed, she’d ache forever. He’d give her that pain, and he knows that it would never go away, even if this bond hasn’t been accepted. And I don’t think Azriel wants to cause her that pain, even when it torments him personally.
I love Elriel and I am biased, I am well aware. But I am not so biased as to forgive something which I’d see as unethical, or forceful, or immoral. And honestly, as it stands right now, Azriel has been a pillar of damn-near monastic restraint and honor in regards to Elain AND Lucien.
PS Azriel NEVER threatened to kill Lucien. It was Rhys who brought up the Blood Duel and even in that conversation, Azriel never said that he wants to or will kill Lucien. He said that he would best him, if push comes to shove. He was honest and blunt and realistic. Because he would defeat him. Without much effort. And yet, he still sort of prefers not to, if he can help it.
PSS Azriel is a polite and honorable male. He never called Elain names, never insulted her, never thought of her as a bitch, never forced her to risk her life for a ring, or willingly put her in dangerous situations. He is protective, thoughtful and kind. He didn’t treat her like she was insane, when everyone else did. He doesn’t make her exercise, do crunches, or sword fight if she doesn’t want to. And he never made sexual advances towards her. So calling him a sex crazed maniac is a bit of a stretch.
Ok, that’s enough for now.

Does anyone else ever think how we know that originally, Lucien and Nesta were supposed to end up together, not Cassian and Nesta? And how that means that this bond between Lucien and Elain probably was a very sudden idea SJM had when writing ACOMAF out?
She decided to change it because this relationship wouldn’t work. I’m not gonna lie that this is slightly perplexing to me. Lucien, especially ACOTAR-era Lucien, probably could’ve gotten along with Nesta quite well. I know SJM knows her characters better than us, but I just can’t see why they wouldn’t work, y’know?
And now, with the whole 3 brothers/3 sisters thing...I’m wondering if that’s part of the reason why. If SJM realized she wanted Lucien to have some connection to one of the three (a mating bond, rather than a romantic relationship), but doesn’t get with them. Because in the end, she had these two Bat Bois sitting right here who would work with them just as well, if not better, than Lucien could with either of them—and it would give her a future story to tell with the three brothers/three sisters and Koschei storyline.
I feel this can be reinforced by the fact that SJM has been planning Elain’s specifically but also Nesta’s story since ACOMAF. She made a lot of decisions while writing ACOMAF and began preparing things for the future books she wanted to write. Choosing not to have Nesta and Lucien get together, instead the tension between Cassian and Nesta the moment they meet. The way Elain and Azriel seem to click and focus on each other the moment they meet, too (if you reread that first meeting I promise you’ll see it. Elain specifically looks to Azriel, not her newly-fae sister, not the High Lord, not the much louder Illyrian right next to Az—not even Nesta. She looks to Azriel every single time when she was unsure, and he’s constantly reassuring her that she’s good to speak up and try). I don’t think that was a coincidence.
Not to mention that if she was planning for Elain and Lucien to be together, she would’ve most definitely given them at least one romantic coded moment together. The closest thing I’ve seen is when Lucien is leaving once and Elain nearly steps down the stairs to say something to him but he’s already gone. And honestly, I blame that completely on the bond. We know they can feel each other’s emotions, Rhys and Feyre can feel each other’s even with their mental shields up (or are supposed to be able to at least)—and we see that Lucien had “longing and sadness” in his eyes just before he disappeared there, which was when Elain almost stepped down. Then Lucien had winnowed away, and she walked away without any other care (likely because the farther away he was the less strong the pull of the mating bond, so she couldn’t feel him as strongly then). This is chapter 34 of ACOWAR. This is the only scene we see that seems like it has slight potential of Elucien in canon.
However, we have many, many scenes to support Elain and Azriel. Their friendship started in ACOMAF, was seen throughout ACOWAR, throughout ACOFAS, and even though we don’t see them even in the same room together but three or so times in ACOSF, there is some kind of tension between them every time (Azriel’s clear protectiveness of Elain when his shadows gathered in the corners to strike, the clear liking of each other when Elain looked away from Azriel’s smile, Nesta noticing a charged look going between them). As well as the many scenes where Azriel and usually Cassian discuss Elain and Azriel’s protectiveness comes back up. As a disclaimer, I don’t like that Azriel is also supporting not allowing Elain to go on these missions and try to prove herself. But every single other couple in the books is protective of each other. Cassian didn’t want Nesta to even let go of his hand to get the harp. Rhys had multiple occasions where he was angry and protective over Feyre doing something dangerous—when instead of going to the townhouse she fought in the streets of Velaris, when she went to find the Suriel during the war. Saying “oh but they’re mates” ignores the fact that it’s said most all males are possessive and protective like this in their world, regardless if it’s a mating bond or family or love. And it also ignores the very plausible theory of Azriel being Elain’s second and/or true mate. I won’t get into that right now though.
And then, of course, the bonus chapter proved that Elain and Azriel’s feeling definitely are not just platonic, and they both have a lot going on behind the scenes. I won’t get into the chapter much because I have plenty of other posts on my blog where I or someone else dissected and discussed it. But they definitely have both romantic and sexual interest in each other.
I truly, truly don’t see why SJM would set that up over the course of three novels and one novella to suddenly not put them together. Especially knowing that she’s said she doesn’t like couples that were built up over long periods of time (4 books is a very long time) and then don’t end up together. I don’t think she introduced Gwyn to be a romantic interest—I do think she included Gwyn in his extra chapter to confuse us and cause panic and chaos, sure, SJM is like that, remember when we first met Emerie? And then Emerie turned out to have no connection to Cassian other than him being her mentor/trainer and she being Nesta’s friend? I don’t think Gwyn will have any actual potential as a romantic partner. This also parallels Cassian and Nesta’s story—with them both mentioning another girl pre-getting together and (likely) nothing actually comes of it. She does parallel things a lot, and I don’t think she did this on accident.
To round this out, I’d like to bring us back to Lucien and Nesta. If she originally had them together, I think there can definitely be an implication there that she had considered them working some. And Cassian and ACOTAR-era Lucien are similar, as well as...well, Nesta and Vassa. The firebird and the silver flames. A human Queen and the Queen of Queens. Vassa has shown a great backbone, will openly bicker with people (we hear about her and Jurian fighting a lot), she’s just this woman who seems like she could be similar enough to Nesta to warrant the idea that Nesta/Lucien could’ve possibly worked if Nesta was a little more like Vassa or Lucien was a little more like Cassian.
I also want to clarify that I’m not against the Elain and Lucien ship, nor am I against Gwyn and Azriel. I actually ship Elain and Lucien—just not as much as I ship Elain and Azriel, because I’m 99.9% certain that Elriel will be endgame (always leave room for error). And once the next book is out and this whole mess has cleared up, I could definitely get behind Gwyn and Azriel as a non-canon sorta-crack ship. I read about pairings that completely disregard canon all the time (Feycien is hardcore slept on). But I can’t find myself supporting Gwyn and Azriel right now, not while this ship war is happening, because I feel right now is the time to actually look at canon and focus on what’s obviously there—not what, to me, is more of just a fun little ship that could work in theory and fanfics and that’s about it.
And that’s all. End rant. I’m so sorry if you actually read all this. This stuff has been on loop in my head for days and I had to word vomit again.

If I were SJM writing ACOWAR I would have dramatically changed the outcome of Rhys’ resurrection.
Ok. Time for another ACOTAR rant because I just can’t help myself.
One of my biggest complaints about this series is how the main characters are never faced with threats that actually threaten their power. While they may battle insurmountable odds, the reader comes to expect that they will achieve their goals unscathed and with dramatic flair. Rhys, Feyre, and the rest of the IC are blessed with immense power, even better looks, and an author who thinks they are perfect in every way.
The characters are so perfect that they can die and be resurrected with virtually zero consequences. SJM has made them invulnerable.
Don’t get me wrong. I hate when beloved characters die in a series, but it is equally frustrating when characters “die” and are then resurrected within minutes at seemingly no cost. Dramatically, this takes away from the emotion of the moment and cheapens the initial sacrifice by making it seemingly moot.
What am I referring to? Rhysand’s death (or lack thereof) in ACOWAR.
If I were SJM writing ACOWAR I would have dramatically changed the outcome of Rhys’ resurrection. The price of his sacrifice for Feyre should come at the cost of his High Lord powers. We know, according to the lore that SJM herself has written, that when a High Lord dies his power automatically transfers onto another. We also know that in ACOWAR Rhys is dead. I know Feyre talks about an essence of him holding on through their bond, but for all intents and purposes he is dead. If the other High Lords don’t offer up part of their life-force, Rhys remains dead. It’s as simple as that. Therefore, during those moments before his resurrection it makes sense that the High Lord powers of the Night Court would transfer onto a new High Lord.
I get so excited thinking about this twist for multiple reasons.
I love the idea of Rhys’ love for Feyre and his people manifesting in his self-sacrifice. We know that Rhys is devoted to his people and to Feyre. He has also made sacrifices for his court in the past. This ultimate sacrifice reinforces this characterization. Furthermore, the loss of his High Lord powers is compelling because it proves that Rhys was willing to give up his immense power for the ones he loves. Since Rhys willingly sacrificed himself in ACOWAR, we can make the assumption that he knew his power would end up transferring to someone else upon his death. In contrast to other fae who put power before everything else, Rhys would stand out as willing to give up everything for love. This makes Rhys more likeable and less of an arrogant asshole who gets what he wants when he wants because he is all powerful. I for one am not impressed by how he is seemingly the most powerful High Lord in Prythian for…reasons. It’s cheesy, and makes the main characters literally invulnerable. It makes the story boring and frustrating and gives the characters no room for personal growth. Why grow when you already have everything? I think it would be more interesting for readers to see how he and Feyre adjust to life without his High Lord Powers. Who is Rhys without his godlike powers anyway?  Which leads to my second point.
If the High Lord Powers of the Night Court are transferred… who do they go to? Definitely not to a member of the Inner Circle or any other ally. We’re here for compelling plot, not giving characters advantages just because we like them! No. My suggestion is that the High Lord powers shift to…. Keir!!! You might be asking yourself, why Keir? He is such an asshole and would be a terrible High Lord. To which I reply, exactly! To set up the conflict in the next series of books we have ACOWAR end on a bittersweet note. On the one hand, the King of Hybern is dead, and all the major characters survived! On the other hand, Rhys’ power has transferred to one of his enemies. Not only are Rhys and co. now vulnerable, Velaris is also at risk from their new High Lord. This bittersweet ending achieves a good payoff for the survival of all the main characters. Stylistically it makes for better writing and a more realistic end to the series instead of “and we lived happily ever after as the most powerful High Lord and Lady in existence.” The sequel series would see Rhys and co. struggle to regain/retain control over Velaris and their people. The plot with the human queens is all good and fine… except that SJM literally never lets us leave the Night Court. 3/4 of the action in books 3 onward takes place in the Night Court. Therefore, it would be a nice change for the conflict to actually take place there and not with some Human Queens that have hardly any page time. This conflict with the new High Lord of the Night Court also offers some interesting new opportunities for character development. Rhys, for the first time in his existence would feel like a stranger in his own court and body. Technically, under Amarantha he was unable to access the majority of his High Lord powers but in that case it was different because he was still High Lord and had access to some of that power however diminished. In this circumstance, he has been stripped of all High Lord powers. He wouldn’t have all the answers, he literally is not in control. This allows him to empathize with Nesta and Elain. Feyre’s sisters also feel like strangers in their new bodies. They were violated and forced to become Fae; they unwillingly gave up their humanity in a way that parallels Rhys unwittingly giving up his power to Keir. In this alternate series Rhys comes to respect and understand both Nesta and Elain for who they are, not who he wants them to be. They have similar journeys of self discovery as each has to learn how to live again. Speaking of Nesta…. oh baby let’s talk about Nesta. Who took immense power from the cauldron? You guessed it, our girl Nesta. Who retains this power even when Rhys is powerless? Ding ding ding, right again! Nesta. In this alternate series women do not have to give up, or diminish their power while their male counterparts get to enjoy it (re: Amren returning with zero powers while Rhys retains all of his at the end of ACOWAR). How great would it be for Rhys and Feyre to need Nesta to help them stand against Keir? How great would it be for Nesta to have a character arc where the main characters actually respect her autonomy, personhood, traumas, and power??!! Reading ACOSF made me equal parts upset, angry, and bewildered. Here are a few reasons why: strong female characters don’t allow others to walk all over them, refusing to fund Nesta’s lifestyle and controlling every aspect of her life are two different things, and Nesta is not the only character who needs to apologize. I’m going to say it again, Nesta is not the only character who needs to apologize. That’s all I’ll say on this subject as ACOSF is another rant for another day. I think these changes in plot also benefit Feyre’s character as well. I see a huge difference between the character I loved in ACTOAR & ACOMAF and the rest of the series. It’s unrealistic that someone with very little leadership experience can fall so easily into the role of powerful High Lady and I feel like her character lost a lot of relatability as the series progressed. The Feyre of ACOTAR would not act like the Feyre of ACOSF.
When the courts were first introduced to us it always bothered me that there were four seasonal courts but only three solar courts… where is the dusk court? I think that my alternate sequel series would culminate in the birth of the Dusk Court. It bothers me that the Night Court is so divided. Rhys literally hates the Court of Nightmares and at best merely tolerate them. It’s hard to reconcile that both Velaris and the Court of Nightmares are the part of the same Court. On other days I would argue that Nightmares are dreams too and Rhys has no business condemning literally half of his court in favour of Velaris. But today I’m going to give it to him. In this  alternate sequel series, Velaris is different for a reason. It isn’t meant to be part of the Night Court. Velaris seems likes a different court, and so it shall be: behold! Velaris, capital of the Dusk Court! Who leads them? The newly minted High Lord and Lady of the Dusk Court: Rhys and Feyre. It may seem counterintuitive to give Rhys High Lord powers back when I’ve established why it is so important for him to lose them, but in my alternate series he will have had to fight, make sacrifices, and develop empathy for other people in ways that make him worthy of being High Lord. It also works as a narrative device for him to receive what he lost after proving himself (by working alongside Feyre, her sisters, and the rest of the IC as equals). I also think it is fitting that Rhys and Feyre could create a new court together.
I hope you have enjoyed my rantings. I’m going to end this here since it’s already obscenely long. I would love to hear your thoughts! I believe firmly that Rhys should never have resurrected with his High Lord powers. The consequences of this could have been so compelling for future books. And it upsets me to see such wasted potential for character growth. This rant is mostly an exercise for myself to rewrite the worst parts of these books in ways that let me love these characters again. No-one should be victim to Mary/Gary Stu-Syndrome. not even Riceball.

If I was to (negatively) review acosf on three things here's how it would go:
- usually I'd add a point for world building but this is like 5 books into the series so I'm not talking about that rn
- let me know if there's any plot points or characters or relationships you want me to talk about
- should I do a positive review of the book too? Like talking about things I liked?
1. Plot:
First off, the main plot seemed very repetitive when you compare it to the main trilogies plot. "Find the magical objects to stop the big bad villain". I realize that Nesta's recovery was a bigger focus of the book but this was just kind of lazy.
The sideplot of Rhys and Feyres pregnancy pissed me off to an extreme level. First off, pregnancy is supposed to be rare in this universe and the fact that within a year or so they're already pregnant makes me uncomfortable. Especially since last time we checked in with Feysand they said they weren't planning on getting pregnant. The fact that in such an advanced world the baby had wings and Feyre didn't was a major problem is ridiculous. "she'll lose too much blood with a c section". That was incredibly unbelievable but I won't rant too much about it.
Then Rhysand keeping the fact that Feyre would die in the pregnancy was ridiculous because regardless of his reasons he had no right to keep it from her. And the idea that even their doctor wouldn't tell Feyre was also infuriating. This was just another example of Rhysands actions being excused on the basis of "I was protecting her" or "it was better for her" or whatever. I don't wanna hear it I despised it.
2. Characters
Let's start with Nesta, she was written pretty well for a character that was struggling mentally but any of her interactions that weren't with the Valkyries or sexual with Cassian always framed her as the bad guy even though it was written from her POV.
Feyre showed zero development since the past books and I was disappointed that her amazing powers didn't play a bigger role in anything at all. Her pregnancy basically prevented her from showing the growth I was hoping from her. And I feel like even though she was the MC, she's been reduced to Rhys' mate which is kind of sad.
Elain is still pretty bland to me and I have no desire for her to be mated with Az and I hope she doesn't doesn't a romantic relationship with Lucien bc I love him. That's all
Cassian seemed very eager for a Feysand like relationship but when the chance came I feel like he could've done so much more. I also feel like there was no addressing his previous actions where he insulted Nesta multiple times. *more in the romance section
I didn't read the Az bonus chapter but I got the gist. Tbh I feel like him wanting Elain is like a phase and he'll be over her soon enough. He's one of the only people I think who hasn't badmouthed Nesta so he's still good in my books. I don't see him being shipped with Elain at all and there's potential with Gwyn but I still haven't developed too much of an opinion yet.
Amrens character was really fun for me in the earlier books but looking at it now I could do without her. Her pressuring Rhys to take the high king title kind of ruined her for me and I feel like it was just an opportunity for sjm to make Rhys seem like a better guy when he refused. Also it made no sense anyway since the high king thing was something they were trying to prevent in the previous books.
Mor wasn't too present in this book, I know she wasn't the biggest fan of Nesta but I don't completely hate her yet. I feel like maybe if we saw more development with her in her assurance in herself, rather than a love interest I'd be more interested in that. I'd also like to uncover more about her past with Eris because I actually really like him.
Speaking of Eris, all I want to say is that I hope he becomes friends with Nesta because there are so many parallels between them and we already know Nesta isn't gonna become besties with the IC. At least I hope not.
Gwyn and Emerie were great I'd love for them to be Nesta's support system and continue as major characters in the books. I don't have any complaints about their characters or the House.
Last is the villain, I know the name started with K but that's about all I remember. That's how memorable they were. (I can't even remember the pronouns, we'll go with he) is it koshei? Something like that anyway. I'm sure you can already tell I didn't find him interesting. Similar to Hybern, there wasn't a lot of depth in the character or in the motives.
3. Romance
We're not talking about Feysand because I'm sick of them and I've already forgotten about them thank you.
Nessian had so much potential but looking back at the way they were written I'd be better off without the ship. I feel like we get nothing from Cassian about actually appreciating Nesta and her personality and her company and all of the things couples do. They were kind of just reduced to sex buddies if yk what I mean. I feel like sjm heard the word sex and just kind of went overboard and just forgot about everything else. It felt like she'd set them up at the beginning and just kind of ran with it and forgot about details and why they actually felt attraction towards each other and why the two felt they were right for each other. For nesta after a major mental health journey a relationship seemed like the last thing she needed but it was all put out to be as simple as "she needs a love interest and she loves him because I said so". I guess what I'm trying to say is Nesta is such a deep character but her relationship with Cassian was so surface-y and black and white.
I still ship Az with no one and Lucien with no one. Ngl Eris for Nesta is looking pretty good rn.

Let the pettiness commence
Let me be frank here when stating that if the quarantine weren’t happening I would probably remain the type of blogger to just re-blog posts without commenting or making my own posts. I enjoy looking at things more than commenting what can I say? I should say thanks and welcome to all the followers I’ve gained these past few years. You all are awesome and hope you all are staying safe during these troublesome times!
Alright, I’m going from civil to petty here and I should forewarn you if you’re a fan of Sarah J. Maas and her novels you’ll prefer to stay away then listen to my rant. Just being polite and giving a heads up.
Listen, there are periods where atrocious books become a major part of trending pop culture. Eventually, the hype dies down and people can take a deep inhale of relief. Around the 2010s time-period, the hype was focused on Twilight books. No matter where you went you felt suffocated by the hyper-fixation people had on this series. I’ll be honest I was an avid Twilight lover for a period until I wised up and had to recognize these books are horrendous and having a bad influence on teens during my era. Teens were getting Aids from drinking each other’s blood literally, they were drinking someone’s blood literally. While they’re still popular main society’s attention has begun to wane.
Pop culture has an new interest in Sarah J. Maas’s series: Throne of Glass (ToG) and A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR). At one time I was part of the fan-base obsessed with her books. During a bleak period where every book I purchased ending up a dud despite strong premises; Maas’s first books, in both series, were a breath of fresh air. They had characters you found hysterical and enjoyed the story-lines (even though the storytelling was meh at times) and you couldn’t help anticipating future novels to see where the novels took these characters. Both series died for me at the books: Queen of Shadows and A Court of Mist and Fury.
These novels were my wake-up call to Maas’ manipulative storytelling patterns and her inconsistent characterizations. She completely morphs characters depending on the scenario. A noble, decent character is turned heinous to either add unnecessary drama or to make readers turn their affections towards another character Maas’ manipulates into becoming “the hero”- typically a love interest. Usually, the first-or second in TOG- love interests are noble characters with a few flaws but nothing to make readers despise them other than the fact they’re not the prettiest men in the series. Literally, readers adore the male characters that are otherworldly attractive than an average looking male who is humane and unproblematic. Problematic much? The message I’m receiving is you should fall in love with a pretty face rather than explore the person’s entire being (this includes past history, personality, characterization, etc).
People will say I’m petty because I’m annoyed Chaol and Tamlin did not remain the love interests. This is absolutely untrue. I’m annoyed Maas had to pull absolute garbage reasoning out of her ass to make the characters despicable.
Let’s start with Throne of Glass. Celaena (I refuse to call her Aelin because the name visually repulses me, it sounds like something Maas stole out of better high fantasy novels) realizes she doesn’t find Dorian compatible and finds Chaol more of an equal. Chaol has flaws but his main one seems to be he’s good-looking but only average in comparison to Dorian and Rowan- whose sex on legs apparently. Maas realizes people will deny Rowan as a love interest (after he gets into a punching match with Celaena) so she has to make Celaena despise Chaol and interact towards him with hostility despite her recognition Chaol had his reasoning's for certain events in previous novels. Then, Maas takes Chaol’s character, who is known for being awkward around women and loyal to a fault, and make him have one night stands, cheating on women, and apparently the scapegoat for everything that goes wrong because Celaena can’t own up she made mistakes. Nehemia also died to give Celaena that necessary push to go against the king but it’s entirely Chaol’s fault for Nehemia’s death since Celaena can do no wrong. Horseshit I say.
Dorian is not a match, Chaol is the bane of Celaena’s existence so Rowan is her champion. Gag. I actually liked Rowan in Heir of Fire but I found it repulsive how Celaena keeps throwing herself at him in Queen of Shadows and growing dependent on him. When she put him in a bath and started throwing her favorite shampoos in I found it to be the most awkward scene. It’s a moment someone with limited knowledge of sexual encounters would conjure up. “Let me give my love interest a bubble bath!” I’ve read these type of bath scenes in other novels but they’re more maturely done. Although I have to remember these books are written for teens. Then, they become mates. A contradicting setup because he had a mate in the past. But, no one is compatible unless they’re mates in Maas’ world. So, mates are stuck together and seem to have a servant/master relationship in certain portions of the stories. Yuck, just yuck.
Readers if you have to state someone is someone else’s mate so you’re aware they’re a thing then it’s probably not a healthy relationship since you’re staying they own that person in Maas’ world-building.
I’m going to stop while I’m ahead when writing about Rowan and Caelena because they repulse me. Buuuttt not to the same extent as Feyre and Rhysand. I absolutely despise these characters with every fiber of my being. This is one of the most unhealthiest relationships I’ve ever read. Before I jump into why they’re disgusting let me just say I love how everybody hopped on the Feyre adoration bandwagon only when she got into a relationship with Rhysand. Nobody liked her until she got.into.a.relationship.with.Rhysand. Wow!
Listen, I understand why Feyre couldn’t stay with Tamlin after what he did (ahem what Maas decided he should do). However contradictory Tamlin’s characterization was the relationship had turned unhealthy. Yetttt, no one batted an eye with Rhysand was giving Feyre date rape drugs, forcing her to give him lap dances making her sick when she came out of the haze, and her being entirely repulsed when he made-out with her. Plus, I read Rhysand as a gay or bi character when he was introduced. I think he would be a better character as a gay male seeking a friendship than their disgusting love story. He goes from giving her roofies and at least seeming like a morally gray character to Feyre’s champion. Yeah, not buying the bullshit.
I pity Tamlin’s character truly- he was butchered beyond recognition. He goes from allowing Feyre to wander to her heart’s extent- as long as she wasn’t in dangerous areas- to locking her up because he thought it made sense. He’s suddenly possessive of her in the most disgusting ways (but Rhysand isn’t possessive in the slightest even when he calls Feyre his “mate!”). All these details were added to make Rhys’ character more heroic. Rhys goes from being a somewhat tolerable character in his actions to a fucking messiah. Rhysand goes from roofie expert to whisking Feyre away for her own safety. Rhysand assists Feyre under the mountain unlike Tamlin! (Because the queen didn’t give a shit about Rhysand and he wasn’t under her radar to the extent as Tamlin). He loves reading stories with Feyre unlike Tamlin. (Hmm, Tamlin offers to teach Feyre to read which she stubbornly refuses because she’s independent but Rhysand forces her to learn and he’s romantic!). And gasp, Tamlin ended up being the one who murdered Rhysand’s family hence their animosity (hahahaha how desperate are you Maas, I mean seriously how pathetic). Feyre, just like Caelena, was forced into this relationship with another abuser painted as a hero in storytelling. Rhysand and Rowan are constructed into heroes to make their disgusting actions justifiable in comparison to Chaol and Tamlin’s ruined characters.
I’m mostly focused on the main relationships since that’s all I keep hearing about. Changing subjects briefly, Maas’ does not acknowledge PoC or LGBTQIA unless readers are pointing out lack of representation. If they’re introduced you’re guaranteed either they die to promote the white lead’s agenda or forced to become a villain. What kind of statement does that make, Maas???? Also, her world-building is beyond odd. Random characters get introduced in weird scenarios that she has to force into the story-line just for sprucing purposes (Manon and the 12 and the 12 princesses from Earth or whatever). Really, what were the purposes of these characters???? And these kingdoms are written so bad. One realm has everyone wearing Renaissance era clothing while the next realm has people dressing hipster I mean wtf?
The reason for my rant is that I needed to get it out of my system. Lately, I cannot get away from these garbage novels. I’m on my Kindle the books are recommended. I’m on Goodreads her books are recommended and keep winning Book of the Year despite better novels being on the same list. I go on Facebook someone mentions deciding to give the series a spin under quarantine. I’m on tumblr (if you’re a fan then that’s fine, enjoy what you love) and artwork keeps popping up. I love it’s typically Feyre giving Rhysand lap-dances in the earlier part of the series where she’s desolate and sicken by these moments. People are quite forgetful when they want to ignore something in order to make Rhysand babe. I wish I knew how to block anything Sarah J Maas on here because I’m trying to escape. I want to read other authors’ novels and not have Maas’ smug face pop up on my recommendation lists. (Her books are on every list on Goodreads- every freaking list!) Hopefully, when quarantine ends the hype will quiet again but I’m getting ticked off here.
Just had to get it off my chest. I’ll probably go back to quietly ignoring the recommendations and artwork but I’m having a moment here.

We are golden stars upon silver seas
Word count: 2.1k
Summary: Feyre hates Rhys. She ruins his chances with the new girl.
Masterlist
Feyre Archeron wasn’t drunk. She was in her favorite bar, in her favorite seat, served by her favorite barista, in her best drinking gear, and she was not drunk. Nor drinking.
Why, then, wasn’t she drunk?
Raucous laughter reverberated through the bar. Feyre glared at the bane of her existence, whose sheer presence made everything - including the wine in her mouth - turn sour.
Rhysand was guffawing with his Inner Circle. He seemed to be telling a story so funny that they dissolved into laughter every two sentences. Of course, he would be the life of the party. Of course, he would choose this bar to have his party at. Of fucking course.
‘You’re staring,’ Alis chided.
‘He’s an eyesore,’ Feyre sighed.
‘Sure he is,’ her friend chuckled. ‘Oh, there is Viviane.’
Feyre looked up, and sure enough, the new girl had just entered the bar. She had porcelain skin and white blond hair, her eyes a striking icy blue. In short, she was beautiful. And, Feyre noted regretfully as she watched her eyes zero in on Rhysand, interested in that asshole.
Feyre let out an all suffering sigh. ‘Here is to another girl who’s about to get her heart broken,’ she toasted Alis, then took a ravenous sip of her drink.
Alis merely shook her head, an indulgent smile on her face. She was used to Feyre ranting about everything related to Rhysand, be it fact or speculation or merely something she conjured from her imagination.
‘This happens every time,’ Feyre went on. ‘New girl falls for Rhysand. He takes her on a couple dates, has his fun, then dumps her ass. How many more times do I have to watch this scenario unfold? How many more times am I going to sit on my ass while a girl gets her heart broken by the devil?’
Something suddenly occurred to her. To get to Rhysand, Viviane would have to get past her table.
‘But maybe I can do something this time.’
‘Oh, no.’
‘Maybe I can be this nice, sweet girl’s salvation.’
‘Feyre, stop.’
‘Viviane,’ Feyre called, standing on her seat, waving her arms enthusiastically.
Alis covered her face with her hands. ‘You’re embarrassing.’
Feyre paid her no heed. ‘Viviane!’
Viviane looked at her, confused. To be fair, it was their first time talking.
Oh whatever, Feyre thought, heroes never bother introducing themselves.
‘Hi, honey. You’re the transfer girl, right? I’m Feyre. I’m an art major, too. We’ll probably have many classes together. And this is Alis.’
‘Hello,’ Viviane said, nodding shyly to both of them.
‘What do you think of our town so far? I can show you around, if you’d like.’
‘Thank you so much, but I wouldn’t want to be a bother.’
‘Bother? Oh, not at all. Did you know that when I first came here, my family had just gone broke, my sister had run away to someplace, and my other sister had gone sick with shock?’ Feyre was a very chatty drunk-even when she was only slightly buzzed. ‘It was awful. Thank God I met Alis to show me around the town, or else I would’ve wallowed in misery in my dorm room forever.’
Viviane’s eyes had drifted away about halfway through Feyre’s monologue.
‘Viviane?’
She let out a dreamy sigh.
‘Viviane!’
‘Oh yes. Feyre, was it? I’m sorry, it’s just… he’s so hot.’
‘Who?’ Feyre turned around, then back. ‘Oh, you mean Rhysand?’
Viviane nodded, still staring at him with moony eyes.
‘Yeah. It’s amazing how all the hot ones turn out to be gay, right? You should see his boyfriend. He has these gorgeous lashes and - ’
Viviane’s eyes snapped to her. Well, that got her attention. ‘Wait. What did you say?’
Feyre barely managed to hold back her smirk. ‘His boyfriend has - ’
‘You mean he’s gay?’
‘Oh. You didn’t know. Sorry. But I guess better hear it from me than from him, right?’
Viviane had gone very red. Feyre was getting worried. ‘Viviane?’
Suddenly she grabbed Feyre’s glass and chugged it down. Then she grabbed Alis’s glass and chugged it down. Then she started crying.
Feyre looked at Alis.
Alis looked at Feyre. Told you so, her look seemed to say.
What do we do now, said Feyre’s.
Alis shrugged.
They both let out a sigh, then grabbed a shoulder each and welcomed Viviane into their little group.
***
Viviane, it turned out, was an even chattier drunk than Feyre. She was also much more morose. Once the dam had broken, she told them all about being unhappy in her former uni and major, and having trouble to transfer as she was a few years older than them. She had struggled to take the leap and switch to art as, though it had always been her dream, 25 seemed like a bit too old for a beginner artist. This, Alis and Feyre were quick to reassure her, was not at all true. Many people started college at 25 or more, and they knew a middle aged couple in their class who were having the time of their lives exploring their artistic abilities.
‘And Kallias,’ she sobbed, her tears starting anew. ‘I love him and now I will never get to tell him.’
‘Kallias?’
‘My best friend. I’ve been in love with him since I was sixteen, overweight and desperate to grow some self confidence. He went on a diet with me so I wouldn’t feel alone. He picked me up on his way to school for basically all four years of high school because I was too scared to get a license. He always left secret gifts in my locker when he knew I was on my period, or took me to my favorite bakery. And when he found out I wanted to do arts instead of political science, he became my number one supporter. He even mailed my application for me. How was I supposed not to fall for him?’
‘Wow. That’s really sweet.’
‘I know! He’s such a sweet guy. I’m sure his girlfriend agrees,’ she sighed dejectedly.
Alis and Feyre exchanged a panicked look. They simply could not sit through another bout of tears.
‘He has a girlfriend?’
‘Well, not exactly. There is this girl in his class, Adrienne, and they meet up a lot to study.’
At Alis and Feyre’s raised brows, she groaned, rubbing her face with both hands.
‘But you should see them! They might as well be dating. She texts him a lot and he always remembers her birthday, when it usually takes him like five weeks to remember people’s names.’
Feyre was dubious. If anything, Kallias seemed to have feelings for Viviane, not whoever this Adrienne girl was. ‘Okay…’
‘Oh, and she has this nickname for him that’s just ridiculous. Kally Bear. Who the fuck comes up with such a stupid nickname? Actually, no.’ Viviane straightened, composing herself. ‘I shouldn’t act like this. I really like Adrienne. She’s nice and she always asks me to come with them when they hang out.’
Alis shrugged. ‘I don’t see why you mind them being together, since you’re always there too.’
‘Oh, I never actually go with them.’
‘What? » Feyre asked incredulously. ‘Why not?’
‘It’s not like she means it. I’m sure she just invites me to be polite. So I tell them to have a good time and send them on their way.’
‘Viviane,’ Alis started carefully. ‘Are you sure Kallias is even interested in Adrienne?’
Viviane pursed her lips. ‘Pretty sure. One time, we were playing truth or dare and I asked him if there was anyone he liked. He said yes, but he didn’t know how to ask her out. He was afraid she would say no and ruin their friendship.’
‘But that could be any friend of his,’ Alis pointed out, her voice blank and ever so careful, the tone she would use on a deranged animal she didn’t want to spook. Or, in this case, a lovesick drunkard she didn’t want to encourage with false hope.
‘She’s his only female friend. Aside from me, that is.’
Feyre had no such qualms. ‘Could be you, then.’
Viviane’s shoulders slumped. ‘No.’
From the way she finished the rest of her drink in one shot and called for seconds, studiously avoiding eye contact, Feyre guessed the conversation to be over.
‘Gotta go powder my nose,’ she said as she stumbled away to the loo.
Oh, how she loved British expressions.
She chuckled on her way, trying her best not to bump into people, and failing miserably as she collided into a deliciously muscled chest.
‘Archeron.’
She looked up at her nemesis. Oh, she had gotten him well.
She couldn’t stop the smirk that bloomed on her face as she replied, ‘Rhysand, darling.’
His eyes narrowed. ‘Darling? What did you do?’
‘What, so you’re the only one allowed to call me that?’
‘You hate it when I call you that.’
She tapped a finger against her chin. ‘True. But I like it when I call you that. You are such a darling,’ she giggled - actually giggled. ‘Especially when you don’t know what’s coming to you.’
Rhysand’s voice was stern. ‘Feyre.’
‘Feyre? Oh my, what a special day it is when Rhysand Fahrenheit calls me by my given name. Did you run out of sarcastic endearments?’
‘I saw you with the new girl.’
Her smirk grew infinitely wider. ‘Did you, now?’
‘What did you tell her?’
‘Nothing you haven’t heard before, I’m sure.’
‘Feyre.’
‘You can keep gritting your teeth till you choke on their dust, and I won’t tell you.’
He breathed deeply, loudly. Once, twice.
‘I can’t deal with you while I’m still sober.’
‘Then go get yourself a drink. And while you’re at it, maybe get one for your boyfriend, too.’
He froze in the middle of turning around, his violet eyes flashing in the dim light of the bar. Oh, how she longed to paint this moment. The Devil Defeated, she would call it.
‘Wait. What did you say?’
‘Funny. Those are the exact words Viviane said when I told her you were gay. A match made in heaven, the two of you. Too bad it’s never going to happen.’
‘You… what?’
‘Are your ears going bad, Rhysand? Are you already that old?’
He rolled his eyes. ‘I am two years older than you, Feyre. And what. the. fuck?’
‘I wasn’t going to let you break another girl’s heart, was I?’
He tensed, anger swirling in his eyes. A second later, he changed. His tense shoulders slowly loosened. He tucked his hands in his pockets, and tilted his head roguishly. His eyes sparkled with devilish amusement, and his favorite smirk perched on his lips. It was not a noticeable change, not if you didn’t know what to look for. But Feyre was a pro in Rhys metamorphosis, as she liked to call it. She watched it all unfold in less than a heartbeat, trying in vain to catch all the details. Somehow, she could never capture it on canvas. Her paintings never had the same vibe-or enough flair.
‘What business is it of yours, Feyre darling, which hearts I choose to break?’
His sensual voice reminded her of silken sheets and sinful touches, and ironically startled her awake. ‘Unlike you, Rhysand, I do happen to care for the common good.’
His smirk was insufferable. ‘You don’t strike me as a selfless person.’
‘Maybe I should strike you, period.’
He leaned forward. ‘How about we strike a bargain instead, darling. You stay away from my business, and I try not to break your heart next.’
She crept forward as well, unwilling to lose the unspoken game, even as her heart beat a tattoo in her chest. He was so close she could touch him. If she dared.
‘Break my heart, Rhysand. I dare you.’
His breath caressed her own when he spoke next. ‘Is that a challenge?’
She snaked a hand between them and laid it flat on the center of his chest. His heartbeat ricocheted against her palm. She smirked. ‘Is it?’
His pupils flared. She gazed into his eyes for what felt like an eternity, transfixed.
Cauldron, she hated his eyes.
She flipped her hair defiantly as she sauntered off, hips swinging, reveling in the way his eyes trailed her the entire way to the bathroom.

Do you feel comfortable wearing tube tops? Noooo. You’ll never see me in a tube top. I don’t even wear tank tops. Has something someone said today annoyed you? Not so far, ha. I haven’t interacted with anyone, yet. It’s only 4:33AM.  Can you hear the crickets chirping at night? No. Do you like listening to new music, or just sticking to your favorites? I like new music, but I do love listening to my good ol’ favorites. I have a playlist that consists of a variety of music, new and old, from various genres and decades, that I just click shuffle and listen.  So far, where have you been on vacation? I haven’t gone anywhere this year, yet.
Did you ever feel that there was something you couldn't tell anyone? Yep. Old stuff and ongoing, current stuff. Do you tend to gossip, even if you don't mean it to cause harm? It does happen. I’ll see something on social media about someone I know and tell my mom or brother. Family gossip stuff. Not to talk shit, but it’ll be like, “omg did you see what so and so posted/did/whatever.” Or like if someone is pregnant or broke up or whatever.  My main gossip is celebrity stuff, though. ha. When was the last time you were bitten by a bug? I don’t recall. It’s been a long time, thankfully. Have you ever gotten your hair permed? No. Do you have a pair of sunglasses that are worth over $200? I don’t have any sunglasses. I don’t wear ‘em, but if I did I sure wouldn’t spend that much. Not anywhere close. Would you ever go on a trip to Europe? Absolutely. I’d love to. There’s so many places I’d love to visit. Are you brave when it comes to trying new foods? Nopeee. I have the same few foods I rotate between. It’s a small list. When was the last time you saw your significant other? I’m single. Is there a friend that you can always go to for advice? I can go to my mom. Have you ever been to a town/place where the people were just creepy? No. Ew, I hope I never go somewhere like that. What's the fastest you've ever driven in a car? I’ve never driven a car. If you see a piano, are you tempted to go over and play a little something? I would. Especially because it’s been over 10 years since I last played.  Is there someone you know who bakes amazing sweets? Yeah. Are you ashamed of your singing voice? I can’t sing for shit, but it doesn’t stop me from singing to myself or around my family. I try to sound as decent as I can, ha. I’m not like those people on American Idol they show that can’t sing well at all, but they think they can and they’re just on there wailing. lol. Has anyone teased you with the "K-I-S-S-I-N-G" song? Yeah. Have you ever had a dream where you could understand a foreign language? No. That would be weird. What time is it where you are? 4:45AM. Do you have anything important to do tomorrow? I have my Bible study stuff. Have you ever owned a beanbag chair? Yeah, when I was a kid we had one. If you own a laptop, do you have a case for it? I do. What was the last movie you purchased on DVD? I don’t even remember. I haven’t bought a physical DVD in yearssss.  Are you a fan of retro things? Yeah. Do you do your own laundry? No. I need help with that, which my mom does. Have you ever used pastels? Yes. Is there a song you're listening to at the moment? No. Would you be considered to be knowledgeable about World War 2? Not really. Have you ever been in possession of a hundred dollar bill? Yes. Is there one food you cannot give up, even though you know it's unhealthy? I don’t eat healthy at all, but the worst thing I eat is probably ramen. I love it, though.  Will you bother having a party for your next birthday? Nah, I’m old. I just like doing something lowkey with my parents and brother. Although, last year my aunt and cousin came over for a game night and cheesecake for my birthday and that was fun. I’d be up for that again. If you're with someone right now, do you think it will last? Who was the last person you flipped off? I have no idea. That’s not something I really do. Like, ever. Do you currently have a job? No. What was the last movie that was unable to capture your interest? Hmm. I don’t remember.  Have you heard of the Irish actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers? The name rings a bell. Do you have something to do, that you would rather not do? There’s a few things. Are you, in any way, feeling hopeless right now? I’ve felt that way for a long time. Is there someone you just need to call and talk to? No. I don’t like talking on the phone. Are you one of those people who can eat anything and not gain a pound? Yes. I used to like that about myself, but it’s a problem for me, currently. These past few years I’ve lost weight due to health stuff and as someone who was already thin...yeah, not good. It’s caused problems for me. Are you nails painted at the moment? No. It’s been a few years since I’ve painted my nails. Is there a song you've been listening to lately on repeat? There’s a few songs lately that I always like to listen when listening to music. I just hit shuffle on my playlist, but there’s a few I like to just add to queue to make sure they come up. Lately, it’s been a couple Billie Eilish songs. Do you know who you're planning to ask to your grad prom? I’m 30 years old. I did go to prom; though, but I didn’t have a date. I just went with friends. When was the last time you went shopping? A few weeks ago. Is there anyone who did something absolutely hilarious today? Not so far. Again, it’s really early and I haven’t interacted with anyone, yet.  Are you having one of those days where you feel unattractive? “one of those days” is everyday for me, old sport. I feel unattractive and I am unattractive.  Do you like hot dogs? No. Do you ever get bored of your music collection and get new songs? I like to check out new music and add it to my playlist to add to the rotation, but I love my old stuff, too. Have you ever bought a designer purse? I’ve been gifted one. What's the limit on how much you would pay for a shirt? I’d say like $30. I mean, I’d obviously prefer cheaper if I can find a good sale or have a good coupon, but if not then yeah about $30. Would you ever like to see the Walk of Fame? Sure. Is it currently humid where you are? No. Have you been in any sort of physical pain today? Of course. Have you ever heard of the German movie Das Boot? Nope. Who were the last people you hung out with? My mom and brother. Has someone ever called you "obnoxious"? Not that I’m aware of.  Most commonly, do you obey rules, or break them? I’m more of a rule follower. Do you like making funny faces in pictures? Nah. Is there something you look back on and go "I can't believe I did that"? A lot of things... Are you good at offering advice? I think I used to be. At least, my friends seemed to think so since I was the one they always came to for advice. I wouldn’t say I am now, though. No one should ask me anything. When was the last time you had to resort to a map? I just use Google Maps if I need directions. I’ve never used an actual map. Your significant other: have you told them you love them lately? What was the last thing to confuse you? Life. How many different colors have you dyed your hair? 3. Do you know someone who always spells "bored" like "board"? No. Are you wearing make up right now? No. I haven’t worn makeup in over a year. Is there a phrase that you use a lot? Words and phrases, yeah. Are you old enough to vote? I’ve been old enough to vote for over 10 years now. Do you have a favorite pair of earrings? Yes, the rose gold Minnie Mouse earrings I got for Christmas. Have you ever been to Disneyworld/Disneyland? I’ve been to Disneyland a few times. Have you dated someone more than twice? Not more than twice, but twice. Are you a fan of Keira Knightley? I’m indifferent.  Have you ever resorted to alcohol to make you feel better? It never helped. Maybe briefly, but it was always short lived. Do you own a full-length mirror? Yeah. Do you ever go on PerezHilton.com to get all the celeb gossip? I see his tweets. Have you heard about Mel Gibson's rant/freakout? Yeah. That was ages ago. Do you wish your bedroom was bigger? Yes, that would be nice. My room is quite small and I have too much stuff. Are you aware of the significance of the date April 14th, 1912? I am, actually. Do you ever just lay back and watch the stars? No. Lately have you had much time to relax? You would think so since I spend majority of my time at home in bed. I wouldn’t call it relaxing, though. Not for me. I have health stuff, physically and mentally, and feel like crap, so. Did anything important/changing happen to you in March 2009? That was over 10 years ago, I don’t remember. I guess nothing that important happened. Nothing memorable, at least. Have you ever felt like a "new person"? Yes, but not in a good way. These past few years have changed me and not for the better. Do you own any expensive jewelry? Yes. What size is your TV? 32 inch, I think. Do you occasionally creep on people on Facebook? Nah. I don’t spend a lot of time on Facebook and what little time I do spend I’m just scrolling through my feed “liking” stuff and sharing an occasional post. I won’t say that I’ve never done that, though. ha. Who hasn’t. Has there been someone in your life that just wouldn't leave you alone? Yeah, in the past.  Do you hate to use public bathrooms? Yes. I very rarely do. Do you find most remixes of songs to be good or bad? It really just depends. I’ve heard good ones and I’ve heard shitty ones. There have been some I liked better than the original. Write something to someone who means a lot to you: Nah. I’ll just say goodnight!

(Okay finally caught up on the official stream. Gonna be a long post so click that read more to... uh... read more.
Firstly, so pissed the damn streamers wouldn’t just shut the fuck up and play the game. You’ve got a limited time, there’s no captions, and I don’t want to hear your dumb ass crowing about your followers I want to hear the characters talking!
That rant over, I’m cautiously excited about the game. The changes made so far mostly seem pretty good, the new UI is interesting and the heavy customization is pretty neat. I’m liking the little shit head twins so far but if they keep that streamer persona going the whole game I’m gonna get real sick of them real fast. Jack’s snarky condescension made him a really great background villain but he had lots of moments where you could hear him crack. I dunno, I guess I’ll have to wait and see. I was hoping for them to be more intense and just feel dangerous, you know? Considering at the start of the game they’ve already wrecked everything the Crimson Raiders built and then some. They have more of a goofy villain feel then a serious threat which, while highly amusing, doesn’t feel really Borderlands-esque.
Amara and Zane already seem really cool and I love their lines. The ones I could hear over the streamers anyway. Zane’s voice is super fun. Absolutely not playing him cause his skills are all the opposite of any play style I’ve ever had.
Amara all the way baby!
ZER0 WAS THERE AND YOU GET TO FIGHT WITH THEM AND THAT MADE MY DAY HONESTLY. Still hate the new voice but I’ve hated that since Son of Crawmerax. Still gives me whiplash to play. I’m really not excited about the idea that all the BL2 VHs have split up. The BL1 VHs got to stay together, why can’t they? You can’t make a game where the characters fight through all this shit together like the group before them and then just casually break the gang up, that’s not cool. I don’t like Lilith implying no one knew where Zer0 had gone off to, no matter how much they like to play the ‘Zer0 is a loner assassin who doesn’t care about anyone’ card. No. Let them all be in contact with each other at least!
Rhys is still an adorable dumbass, now he just has people he’s ordering around and I’m okay with that. Him and his stupid “siege mustache”. At least Zer0 is helping him.
With the small bits of gameplay we got to see so far that’s all I’ve got yet but it’s pretty. A little too clean lines for Borderlands. I liked the messy inked style before they made it all polished and shiny. I’m preordering it of course for PS4 so come September if anyone wants a multiplayer partner I’ll be there! If you don’t mind me wandering around and looking at everything and listening to the characters rather then my partners lol.)

Good vs Evil
I’ve been thinking a lot about villains lately and what makes a villain bad. I guess I’ve always been fascinated with villains, for example, I remember wondering as a child why anyone would want to do ‘the wrong thing’. Obviously, in children’s books/movies/stories the line between good and evil is not as blurred as it is in stories aimed at older people, particularly in YA (I feel like the theme of ‘what is bad’ and ‘where do ‘bad’ people come from?’ is explored a lot in YA). A really good example of a character where the line between good and evil is blurred is Thanos (Avengers: Infinity War). There’s obviously a lot of discussion about whether or not Thanos did the right thing in erasing half of life on earth, because he was effectively saving the world, at least in his opinion. That also raises the question of whether or not that makes the Avengers the villains.
Tumblr media
It also got me thinking about anti-heroes, well-liked villains and heroes that have done bad things. For example, it’s not uncommon for a hero to kill. A big part of this is how the story is told.
I think that method and motive is really important and can define a character. Going back to the example of Thanos, if his motive was purely to kill half of life, he would immediately be labelled ‘bad’. The same thing goes for Aelin (Throne of Glass), who was an assassin but is still the hero of the story since her goal is to save her people, and she is just as (more, actually) willing to sacrifice herself. Another good example is Rhys (ACOTAR). He’s a great example since he was originally portrayed as the villain, but is now arguably the fandom’s favourite character. Whilst he did things that could be labelled as ‘bad’, similarly to Aelin, he sacrifices himself before others, and his motive is to save his people. Thus, his motives are ultimately selfless.
Rhys’ story is also interesting because it shows how important perspective is. When we get more information about his past and his motive, we can justify him as a ‘good’ (I was going to say person, but he’s not a person) character.
Most antagonists are not evil for the sake of being evil. Most are raised to be that way/are doing it to survive/are doing it to gain something/are doing it to help the people they love. An antagonist that steals to help the poor is a hero to the poor, and a villain to the rich. Of course, I’m referencing Robin Hood now, who is another perfect example. I believe the easiest villains to hate are the ones who do bad to get things they want, not need, and/or are not helping anyone, and/or are hurting people in the process. For example, Cairn (Throne of Glass) is so very easy to hate because he enjoys hurting people and he has no other reason to justify his actions. Again, the magnitude of their ‘bad’ actions is really important, as well as how many people are getting hurt in the process. Often I find that its easier to like a villain who kills rather than one who tortures.
And now there’s the trolley problem. If you kill one person to save millions, is it worth it? Or what if you kill one person to save two?
I personally really enjoy anti-heroes, so I was looking at films/books with anti-heroes and I notices that every example I came across had a protagonist that is doing societally labelled ‘bad’ things, but doing them to help other people. Obviously, people have to be invested in the protagonist, no matter what they’re doing that’s ‘bad’, so writers have to justify their actions.
Anyway, thanks for reading my rant. Please add your thoughts, I really want to hear what other people think and hopefully discuss this topic further :).

I have nowhere enough money to buy books I got them from my uncle lol. I'm not sure if it's just because it's how I read all the time now but I really like reading on my phone. I feel like I've heard of that extra book? I never thought about reading it for some reason, weird. Ooooooh I'll be back to ask what you thought owo. Sorry if you like acotar but I read that first book and it was Not It for me. I'll probably be on a wait list again, sigh. I'll read it when I can though! A fantasy series I actually finished hm. YES I can talk about the Raven Cycle 😊. Best boy noah from the first book faded out of existence that was so sad. The ending......... Um. It happened 😂. I'm so glad I could read the series in a month bc waiting for that last book would have been trasssssh.
I life physical copies, but I’m not partial hehe- any written medium works just fine for me pffft xD The Fork, the witch and the worm is like, a collections of short stories in and around Alagesia (idk if I spelled it right) from different points of time. Really interesting- if I remember right, Eragon appears there hehe. Feel free to lmk once you read it!! :D
Omg, Raven cycle has been on my readlist for AGES, I just keep putting it off idek why!? I will definitely get to it asap now that I have a solid go-ahead :D
Okay, I need to talk about ACOTAR, I have way too many thoughts. (Any fantasy series fans out here might wanna skip out on this if you like to pick fights. It’s gonna be a big long rant.)
I fucking adored ACOTAR, tbh- the entire series, to be very honest. For the first 3 re-reads. Around that point I started noticing some oddities in the text and the characters that I just couldn’t ignore.
<ALLUSIONS TO SPOILERS BELOW>
It all seemed lowkey... insensitive. The way the Illyrians were consistently portrayed as tan/dark and permanently alluding them to nothing more than female-hating, war-mongering barbarians who needed to be kept under control.
And don’t get me started on Rhys- that dude was a prince Charming in my eyes until this one post on Instagram just opened my eyes to every red flag in his character I’d just conveniently ignored because OH, he was saving Feyre from the bastard Tamlin and was helping her out of the traumatic spiral she was falling through. But that guy is fucking unpredictable. A lowkey sociopath. I won’t go into the details coz that would straight up be spoilers, but sweet book anon, there’s so much wrong about Rhys and his entire character that I can’t stomach reading that series ever again. Everything about him only looks good with heavily rose-tinted glasses. Take those off and he’s bound to look like the monster I’m fairly sure SJM didn’t intend to make him look like-
And please, don’t get me started on the way Nesta Archeron’s trauma is dealt with. I think that entire series of events was what put me off the series as a whole. She’s painted as a reclusive villain who rejects her poor sisters’ advances and has to be sent to REFORM. WHERE? To the said barBARIANS’ CAMP.
<SPOILER ALLUSIONS COMPLETE.>
SJM Really fucked up with the nuances she wittingly or unwittingly left behind with the entire series as a whole. So, lovely anon, you did the right thing by throwing the book down your readlist. :// If you do get through it at some point and have different opinions, Please do let me know!
I’m absolutely open to opinions (This entire rant has been a bit of a peek into my own) and would love to hear yours. :)

Hello. First things first, I am Laura, I am 28 and I am living in the UK. Being at the ripe old age of 28, I just do not feel comfortable with writing with anyone under the age of eighteen, although I would prefer twenty one. As the line goes, its not you, its me. I know that there are some truly wonderful writers out there who are under that age, but please do not contact me. I am getting really rather irritated with plotting and then realising that a person it under that age, and then getting irate when I apologise, and cannot continue.
Now that we have that out the way, lets get onto the fun things. I have advertised many times over the years for role play partners, and have found many who I have written with for years and become very good friends with, but for every three that I find, two vanish, ergo, here I am. I love all sorts of genres, but there are a few that I am particularly interested in right now. I love fantasy, of all types. Urban fantasy, to high fantasy. Bring your swords and your magic users, bring them all. I have a love for fantasy. Witches are always good. I am also in the mood for an original space adventure. Maybe exploring new galaxies or something, maybe colonising an alien world. I have never really understood the concept of slice of life, I mean, I live in the real world every day, why would I want to write it? However, if you wanted to write something rather obscure to my boring life – a wealthy businessman falls in love for the undersecretary of one of his minions (no Fifty Shades!) and she has a secret desire to work in fashion or something… I could work with that. Although I did have this idea about a ranch, and two people who are in the last chances of there life coming there to escape and falling in love… If anyone knows the Crossfire series, I would love you forever… Eva and Gidion are just my OTP.  Im also reading A Court of Thrones and Roses; Rhys anyone? Or Nessa and her hunk in the latter books…
Im always up for urban fantasy. I have a half blooded ex assassin angel who needs brushing off and sobering up. Id like to get him out the closet again. He needs a lady to claw open his icy heart. I also have a police detective who is an abuse survivor and slightly insane… oh, and he is psychic. He needs a companion. A partner. Male or female. As for Fandoms, they are not my strongest suit…  Harry Potter, of course, but I prefer obscure paring. Potter and Malfoy, Potter and Snape, Snape and Lupin, Malfoy and Granger. Always happy for one of those, and would love to find someone to play the Snape to my Lupin. I am currently rereading the Wheel of Time, and if anyone can play a warder to my Aes Sedai, then I shall be very happy. However what I am really feeling is The Hunger Games. Laurel, a career from District Two catches the eye of a young man from one of the poorer districts… and how together they bring Panem to its knees… I also confess to having a bit of a thing for 00Q AND I DON’T CARE THAT HE IS GAY. THERE IS MORE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN BOND AND Q IN ONCE GLANCE THEN THERE WAS IN THE ENTIRITY OF SPECTRE *breathes deep* Rant over. The other one is, if you know the show Shadowhunters, then I would love some Malec… I can play either Magnus or Alec, but would much prefer the latter… dark… moody… I do like me some brooding sexy males…  Ahem. The fun stuff aside, now for the boring stuff. I play male and female equally, however I will not play the male because you only play female. I mean, come on. We are all adults here. If that’s the case, I will ignore you. Negotiate with me! Talk to me, but don’t thrust your needs down my throat. I am happy to play M/F, M// and perhaps F// but I am out of practice with that. At the moment, I am more inclines to play female to a male. I try to write three paragraphs per post, but I am not a stickler for it. I will match you, and I am also happy to have the shorter, one paragraph quick fire posts. I will post at least once a day, unless I am really busy (I am a damn TA, Running a house, volunteering and need time to sleep!) but if you intrigue me enough, it will be more. Now to everyone’s favourite topic; Smut. Does anyone else remember the days when writing porn was not necessary for a role play? I digress. I am happy to write out sex, good old vanilla or tying up and spanking and sticking things in various places. Im pretty open minded, but the plot is a must for me. I do not do porn for no reason… and sometimes, I cannot be bothered to write it, so I reserve the right to fade to black. Oh, and try and rape my characters without warning me, and I will vanish. At the moment, it can take me a few days to give an opening post, as I am coming up to exam season… but Easter holidays are soon! I am only role playing on email right now, as it is available across all my platforms. I apologise if I came across harsh, but there is only so many times I can say some things. I look forward to hearing from you soon. [email protected]

recap of 5/20/17 SJM event
audio recording 1 (second session)/audio recording 2 (third (fourth) session)
She was presenting with Renee Ahedieh, so listening to them it might be hard to tell them apart. (Sarah talked a little quieter and so is a little more echoey/harder to hear.) But listening to their back and forth was really cool!
She didn’t really talk as much about her books as I wanted?? She talked more about herself, but it was a moderated panel, so that I guess was just what questions she was asked. Anyway, I tried to write out just about everything she said below for those without the time/ability to listen. Also, I only attended 2/3 sessions, but I believe @illyrian-bitch-queen attended all three, so you can ask her about the first one, or if she has anything else to add to these two!!
If she was in the Hunger Games, she would be the one who would work on pure “in your face intimidation.” Told a story about how in college she was crazy competitive in her badminton class that she had to take, while everyone was like “.... we’re just here bc we have to be”
Renee (and Sarah joining in) went on a rant about the inherent misogyny in the term “strong female character,” bc male characters can just be male characters, as opposed to having to make that designation of “strong.” Particularly discussed how much they loved Buffy (the character and all the other characters in the show) because of how many different types of female strength it celebrated. Also said that Katara is similar in that she doesn’t sacrifice love of fashion/clothing for badassery.
Talked about how she cried in front of Tamora Pierce when they met (they were on a panel together) because of how important Tamora Pierce was to her personally and also in opening up the industry to female-led fantasy novels. (”We stand on her shoulders”)
Dorian would be the one with the largest instagram following, because he would have all the shirtless book/bed selfies and dog photos and such. Rhys would also have a huge following, but it would be less cultivated, not really selfies, but would post a lot of pictures of Feyre’s work, with a glimpse of “his eight-pack” or “a muscular thigh.” Aedion would be the one with all the workout selfies.
Just turned in second to last passthrough for ToD, in which she looks specifically at the sentences, grammar and style and such.
(At the end of the first session/first recording, Sarah devolves into freaking about about the hot South Korean bodyguard, which Renee mentioned. I hadn’t heard of this, but it’s here for those interested.)
Fave YA OTPs: Karou/Akiva from Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Shazi/Khalid from the Wrath and the Dawn, and Alina/Darkling from the Grisha Trilogy
How she chooses names: sometimes she just likes the sound/look of it, sometimes she looks up names that mean “’hot sexy warrior’ in Greek”
Would go back to the Library of Alexandria for a day if she could
Favorite fictional villain: Umbridge from Harry Potter
Moderator: “What do you do in your spare time?” SJM: “I don’t have spare time” (continues that jk, she mostly just sits on the couch wrapped in blankets, watching TV. Won’t shower for days at a time.)
Met Alex Skarsgard. Shook his hand. Immediately turned around and licked her hand. (I felt the second hand embarrassment at this one lol.)
Last parting words to her fans: make every day count, enjoy being you, never let anyone put down you and your interests or dreams or ideas. Live in the moment. Seize the day.

ACOWAR Thoughts and Spoilers
1. Overall I really enjoyed it. I read it all in one day (lord help me) so it’s hard to judge pacing and such since I just crammed 700 pages in my head
2. I think the pacing though was pretty good. I read some complaints that people felt it to be rushed, and I don’t think so. I feel like we had a good look at everyone. Now, could there have been more? Yes, but this story was about the battle. I think the last book (ACOMAF) was more a set up for the backgrounds of the dream team/the relationship between Feyre and Rhysand.
3. I LOVED how we got to see more Azriel. You got to see his personality without going into a long winded Azriel backstory (not that I would have minded that, just it’s not really this book’s story)
4. I wished I’d seen more of Mor and her powers. Also kind of found it sort of thrown in there that she was lesbian/(maybe bi?) I’m all for more diverse characters, but it seemed sort of forced. I was kind of bummed that there was no direct closure between her and Az, as I thought their relationship the most interesting after Feyre/Rhys
5. I BAWLED when Rhys died. Like heavy, awful sobs. Didn’t know I had it in me. The way it was written- I felt like something was torn out of me- the way she described the mating bond sever just set me over edge.
6. I’m so happy Az and Cass didn’t die. I thought that one of them would, but I’m happy they didn’t. Obviously I’m glad all the main people survived, but Amren coming back along with Rhys was nice (I’m not complaining) but I think it would have been okay if Amren didn’t come back. Like I love her to death but just the ending might have been too much of a happily ever after? Or who knows, maybe I just watch too much Game of Thrones.
7. Loved how Tamlin was written and the emotions you feel towards him throughout the series
8. Some of my favorite scenes were the ones at the Dawn Court. All of the high lords battling like that was LUSCIOUS
9. I’m glad we got to see a little bit of Rhys’s power. (In the final battle when he misted all those people... omg) I just wished we could have seen more of it? Like he’s so powerful but I feel like we never really got to see the extent of it.
9. Just love how much I’d grown to love Feyre. First book I was pretty indifferent towards her, but now I love her
10. I wish Elain wasn’t as mopey the whole time
11. I loved all the scenes with the Bone Carver/Weaver/company. They way the Weaver went out was heartbreaking and the fact that he showed Feyre her son.. omg
12. Fuck Ianthe
13. Eris was super interesting to read about and I’d love to hear more of his story
14. Hybern was too overpowered. He never showed any weaknesses or repercussions for using the Cauldron. wtf
15. Jurian is awesome hahaha
16. I FUCKING LOVE RHYSAND like wow. And their relationship was so well written. Rhysand is just goals and I need to meet a man like that
17. Amren’s big fight scene was awesome
18. that’s all i can think of now please message me if you have to rant/talk about this book! Overall I loved it :)

Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s love: a dilemma for her detractors...
It is actually quite disgusting seeing and reading the vile abuse levied towards Meghan Markle on the ‘mail online / daily mail’ website. You only have to read the commentary sections on articles Meghan Markle related to fully understand the level of base prejudice that resides on that site.  The scurrilous slurs, insinuations and often times potential libel, are racially motivated. The racism both the outright & subtle shines right through.  I feel it has now become a sadistic sport of sorts for this so-called National newspaper website to induce as much hysteria as possible from its commentators as the website churn out article after article and comment pieces (mainly unfavourable) on anything Meghan related on an almost daily basis.  One could be forgiven for thinking they have an agenda to fulfill and my goodness don't they just  pursue it with a vigour and vengeance.  I mean it's like: ‘how dare a woman of colour fall in love and how dare she conduct a mutual relationship with a man, who just happens to be a Prince of the realm’...  For the warped minds out there, they find the fact that this relationship is actually happening, despicable.  The constant disbelief from said quarters, the malicious rage is all too palpable - even In this twentyfirst century nevertheless.
How do these twiits justify the obsessive hate they spew you may ask?  Oh, it's the usual blather - she's ‘unsuitable’ because she's an actress oh dearie me! Well then, the late Grace Kelly was an actress, she went on to become Her Serene Highness of the Principality of Monaco, she of course, where required - partook in sexy love scene. And today still hailed & revered in all cases circles.  Lord Frederick Winsor a Royal also in line to the British throne, is married to an actress.  And in a world where a Prince of Sweden is married to a glamour model who has done full frontal nude, Ms Markle’s haters would have us all faint with the vapours for her tame romantic/sexy scenes with her onscreen love interests. No full nudes and nothing untoward.  Scenes, which by any standard, are, in this day & age, par for the course on almost all TV, theatre, Big Screen movies & Drama that are rated over (12).  But hey,  ‘it's only the mixed-race woman so let's continuously denigrate her to hell & back’.  'If we scream porn star enough times, the mud wil stick’. Really??  Yes, this is the level some have sunk to, sadly.  She's a divorcee, yes, but so is the immediate heir to the British throne, as is his current wife, formerly Camilla Parker Bowles . The current Queen of Spain was once a divorcee.  As was Princess Michael of Kent before she too married into the British Royal Family.
Ms Markle is a foreigner cum commoner her detractors insist on reminding us. Ah Ha!  So Meghan Markle is indeed an American based for sometime now in Canada. The Queen’s eldest grandson is married with children to a Canadian.  Denmark’s  immediate heir to the throne, Crown Prince Frederik is married to an Australian commoner, formerly Mary Donaldson whom he'd met in a pub in Sydney,
Just like to add that the delightful Mette-Marit, Norway’s Crown Princess was once a commoner single parent before she too found her Prince. Plus Britain’s very own third in line to the throne, Prince William is also married to a commoner, the Duchess of Cambridge, formerly Kate Middleton.
I guess the point I am trying to make here with all those mentioned above is that people, commoners of ordinary backgrounds are now marrying into the Royal dynasties of Europe - A move never allowed before in the past.  Monarchies are moving with the modern times. Love reigns supreme, and where you are from and Class background is no longer and shouldn't ever  be an impediment to falling in love with and marrying someone who just happens to be royalty.
No, what really ought to matter is compatibility. Mutual love, passion, respect and common interests.  Both Harry & Meghan obviously have feelings for each other, they also share a background in humanitarian issues and raising awareness. Yes, Meghan Markle was long involved in charitable work long before she had even met Prince Harry. And haa made it absolutely clear that aspect of things was one of her missions in life and will remain so. Not satisfactory enough for her detractors though as they persist in branding her as an "opportunistic” villain forcing herself on a Prince.  Which is frankly absurd.
In actual fact, Ms Markle is an accomplished lady, a University Graduate with a Major in International Relations & Theatre. She is also a gifted calligrapher and financially supported herself whilst at University by doing bits of calligraphy here and there. She also spent time working at the American Embassy in Argentina, before deciding to focus on a career as an actor. Again, her detractors try to understate her achievements. It appears to just Zoom over their heads the fact that her education background is easily verifiable. And that any discrepancy in her resumé would have been exposed by the exposers in chief of the moment.  Uhmm, I meant the "investigative journalism” (sarcasm) undertaken by this particular mainstream National newspaper website that affords the vile deplorables, and stuck up Snobs everywhere the chance  to congregate and spout bile at will that feeds into their obsessive Meghan hate.
Again, I repeat: that particular newspaper website would've been first in line to throw down the gauntlet, given their dubious  agenda.
Another baffling thing that continues to puzzle me is the moniker the Meghan detractors furnished her with.."Media Meg”... Err, hello: she is in the media by virtue of her job as an actress and her role as an humanitarian campaigner.  Both require a medium of exposure and it would be practically impossible not to have some form of media interest in her line of work, anyway.
What exactly do the detractors expect, in a line of work she's been involved with since before her relationship with Harry began ?
The paparazzi problem; Meghan Markle  gets criticised if she's papped taking a stroll to her yoga class. Or simply going about her daily business, the ordinary things people would normally do. It is not her fault the media paps have begun taking even more of a keen her interest in her comings and goings than ever.  It's a way of life celebrities in general have to live with or at least adapt to. As a matter of fact, paparazzi and press intrusion is a subject matter that blights the life of royalty just the same as celebrities when the opportunity arises. Which thankfully isn't very often but it does happen. Take for instance the Duchess of Cambridge, pictured in a state of undress at a private villa during a holiday with her husband. Illicit (some might argue illegal even) these were pap pics taken by the paparazzi and sold to magazine outlets a few years ago.  And the now infamous Sophie Rhys-Jones newspaper scoop.  Photo exhibits  of the then Sophie Rhys-Jones now Countess of Wessex. Photo shots of a clearly jovial Sophie, her bare breasts exposed in a clinch with the TV presenter Chris Tarrant. Old photos released just weeks before  her wedding  to the Queen’s youngest son, Prince Edward. Then there was that newspaper sting in which Sophie (now the Countess of Wessex after her marriage to Prince Edward) was disgracefully set up by an undercover journalist posing a rich Arabian Sheikh. She was caught on tape making disparaging remarks about political figures, and members of the royal family. Completely going against Royal Protocol.
You see we are all human with flaws. Meghan is a human being with feelings. She has dragged herself up, gotten herself a good education and works. Now she gives back to society in her own way. And yet she has to endure the pure evil bile with the unpleasant undercurrents of racism added to touch. She's of mixed-race heritage her mum is black and her dad white. It doesn't make her any less of a human being or less deserving of love wherever & however that comes by.  But to listen to the twisted creatures that dedicate an enormous amount of time and energy in pathetic attempts to ruin her reputation and bring her down, to read the sickening bile these rabid bunch of deplorables from across the Atlantic and elsewhere spew day in and day out about Ms Markle, says more about them than her. She can take heart in the fact that out in the real world the majority of people here in Britain are decent people with no time for the  base prejudice seen displayed on fringe websites.
Ms Markle is an only child of her mother, but is constantly blighted by the poor life choices and display of envy by her half siblings. Step siblings she lost contact with since early childhood.  Children to her dad from a different marriage to her mum’s. Her parents separated when she was six years old. And yet these half siblings claim to be experts on her current life, sellIng fake tales to the press including childhood photos, when they have no first hand knowledge of her personal life and relationship and how it is panning out, other than what they read or make up themselves. One particularly nasty half/step sister spends her time on Twitter ranting poisonous rubbish about Mrghan.  Ah well, I suppose it goes with the territory with some step siblings.  After all, there are strong rumours the North Korean tyrant Kim Jong Un did away with his half brother.  And it is blatantly obvious Barack Obama’s half brother has been a pest in his side throughout his Presidency, sucking up to Donald Trump of all people and helping spread the vile birther conspiracy.  I hear the kraken’s raised its ugly head again recently.
