You were pleasantly surprised that, although you had slept in Hell and on the way here, you felt tired almost as soon as your head hit the pillow. You had gotten more sleep in the last 24 hours alone than all three Winchesters combined got in a week. Though, with everything that had happened, could anyone really blame you?
You snuggled deeply into the sheets of the bed and took a deep breath. Flipping over to your other side, you pulled the silk sheets up to your... Silk sheets? You opened your eyes to see red silk sheets in place of the white cotton ones that had been there before. What the hell? you thought to yourself. You were facing the door of the bedroom at Bobby’s house so you hadn’t left, what was going on? You returned to your left side and gasped as you were met with a pair of deep blue eyes.
“I know you said red was cliché, but these are so much more comfortable than the drab that was on here before, aren’t they?”
You furrowed your eyebrows, “Lucifer?”
“In the flesh. Well, sort of.”
“But, how? How’d you find-” you paused and let out a small laugh, “I’m dreaming, aren’t I?”
“‘fraid so doll. I know you’re disappointed you don’t get all this in person but since my annoying little bro carved that warding into all of your ribs, I can’t find you physically. This is the only way we can talk.”
“Talk about what? Are you finally going to tell me what the hell is going on?”
Lucifer sat up against the headboard and you followed suit. He took a deep breath and pushed a piece of hair behind your ear. It may have only been a dream, but it felt so incredibly real to you; you felt his hand touch your face and the chill that went down your spine as a result.
“I suppose it’s only fair that you know as much as I do. This involves you too.” He sighed and rose from the bed, beginning to pace in front of it. “You know, this whole thing is just as weird for me as it is for you. You’re... human. Your whole race is broken, flawed. And for some Dad-forsaken reason, I can’t bring myself to kill you. I’m developing feelings. It’s terrible.”
“Okay this is getting a little insulting...”
“But it’s not terrible, that’s the thing. I like it. I like you. I was there when Father created the soulmate connection for humans. It was beautiful, one of the only things I envied of your kind. It’s incredibly rare, but deep and powerful when it happens.” He moved to sit back beside you on the bed. “Why Father brought you to me, I am unsure, but I am glad he did. I am eager to complete the connection, because I know that once we do we will be incredible together. Powerful.”
“Complete the connection? What do you mean? And powerful? Lucifer I’m so lost right now.”
He caressed your face, “Right now, we are only in the beginning stages of the connection. I miss you, but it’s tolerable. After we complete the connection, we will truly become soulmates. Our souls will intertwine and become one. The mixture of your humanity and my grace as a result will make us extremely powerful, BOTH of us.”
“How do we complete the connection?”
Lucifer smirked, “That’s the fun part. I’ve never had intercourse with a human, but from what I’ve seen it looks extremely enjoyable.”
“Woah, woah, wait. What?? Okay, number one; please don’t call it intercourse. Number two; we complete the connection by having sex? Seriously??”
“Yes, angel. And when we do we will be inseparable. You will receive some of my grace, and I will receive some of your humanity, making us two of the most powerful beings in existence.”
“This...this is insane.” You leaned back and rubbed your temples.
“Trust me, I know. It won’t happen immediately, I’m not a monster.”
“You’re literally the devil.”
“Yes, but like I said, I’m nothing if not one for the classics. All that old school romance stuff looks fun. Plus, it’s a rule of the connection, it cannot be forced in any way.”
You let out a breath you didn’t know you were holding. For some reason you trusted Lucifer, but knowing those things put you more at ease regardless. You were lost in your own head when Lucifer suddenly stood, “I have to go.”
You stood as well, “Wait what? Why? Lucifer, I have so many questions.”
He walked towards you and brought you into his arms. It was strange; you kept forgetting this was a dream because everything felt so real. You could feel his cool arms around you and how safe you felt in them; you could smell him, although you couldn’t place it, as it was something completely Lucifer. You only knew two things in that moment: how much you missed Lucifer and how much you wanted him to kiss you right now. Both of those things were equally amazing and surprising to you.
“You will wake soon. Come find me out there. Find Castiel, he will tell you the proper way to summon me. Knowing him, he is somewhat supportive of this since it’s Dad’s plan and will help you. The pain of the separation will get worse the longer we’re apart, so try to hurry,” he said with a smirk.
He looked down and cupped your face in both of his hands. You swore your heart stopped; he was going to kiss you. He leaned in slowly and you closed your eyes, waiting for his cool lips to meet yours and...
You woke up abruptly, shooting up into a sitting position with a gasp. You sat forward so suddenly you almost knocked foreheads with Sam who was sitting next to you on the bed. Thankfully he was able to scoot back in time to avoid the collision, but you woke up so abruptly that even Dean and Bobby, who were standing at the foot of the bed, took a step back as well.
You were sitting there breathing heavily for a few seconds before Sam broke the silence, “Y/N, what the hell just happened?”
Turning to look at your twin, you tried to come up with a deflection on the fly, “What do you mean? I took a nap and had a nightmare, not exactly a new occurrence.”
Sam turned to look at the two men at the foot of the bed before turning back to his sister, “Y/N/N we’ve been trying to wake you up for over an hour, nothing’s worked. When we finally gave up you woke up on your own.” He handed you the glass of water he’d placed on the bedside table when he first came upstairs.
“Yeah, so you wanna try the truth this time?” Dean snapped, folding his arms.
After taking a long drink, you dropped your head into your hands; everything that was going on your life was starting to give you a migraine. The last thing you wanted to tell your family was that you spent your time in dreamland with Lucifer. You rubbed at your temples while contemplating on how to explain what had happened, reluctantly deciding on the truth.
You looked to your family and began, “I came up here to lay down and must’ve fallen asleep because when I rolled over, Lucifer was there.”
Dean cursed and ran a hand over his face, but Bobby was confused. “I don’t understand. How exactly did that happen?”
“Angels can enter our subconscious mind while we’re dreaming. Cas has done it to Dean before and Lucifer did it to me soon after he took Nick as a vessel. Y/N, what did he say to you?”
“He explained the soulmate connection; what it takes to complete it and what will happen afterwards.”
“Yeah you complete it and you’re like, officially soulmates. Being separated from you wouldn’t weaken him,” explained Sam.
You looked at Sam and sighed, “That’s part of it.”
Dean walked forward, “Wait, part?? What the hell else is there? Cas only told us about the completing part.”
You looked at your brother incredulously, “Good to know you knew more about this thing that affects me than I did,” you fidgeted with your hands and took a deep breath. Telling your brothers the next part was not going to be easy, you partly expected Dean to actually explode.
“According to Lucifer, we complete the bond by, well, having sex,” you continued, causing everyone in the room to cringe at your statement. “But after that, apparently something happens, something mystical. He said that once the bond is completed, I will receive some of his grace and he’ll receive some of my humanity, causing us to become two of the most powerful beings in all of creation.”
You looked up from your fidgeting hands to see three pairs of wide eyes staring back at you. It wasn’t really surprising; you did just drop a huge bomb in their lap. You were having trouble believing it yourself.
Dean suddenly swiped the books that were on the desk across the room onto the floor. You flinched at the sudden outburst. It wasn’t too surprising though; you knew Dean would be pissed.
“Hey, some of them books are one of a kind boy. I know you ain’t happy but if you ruin one of them books, I’ll put a boot in yer ass.” Bobby moved to pick up some of the books off of the floor, “I was buildin’ up a collection of books on archangels and this is what I got so far. How about instead of getting all hot and bothered, we do some research and try to find out what to do about this?”
Before anyone could move, Dean exploded. He turned to you, looking madder than you had ever seen him. “How are you so calm?? You just dropped that giant bomb on us so nonchalantly. Are you, like, okay with this or something?”
You stood from the bed, “Of course I’m not okay with this Dean! I don’t think any of us are okay with anything that has happened in the past year. But after talking to him, I think that I am Lucifer’s main focus, not the apocalypse. If we become as powerful as he says we will, we can strengthen Nick and he won’t need to take Sam as a vessel!
“And I’m human! Don’t you think maybe loving and being with a human will cause him to maybe not hate us as a species so much? Angels are real, Dean, which means God is real. I know this is a concept that both of us have struggled to come to terms with, but now? I don’t think we have a choice. He apparently made me for Lucifer and I can feel it. It’s not something we can just ignore and hope goes away. Being away from him much longer is going to start to be physically painful. We’re running out of options.”
Dean’s face was stone; he always was hard to read. You couldn’t tell what was running through his mind and you were worried. Bobby and Sam were silent near the door, watching the scene unfold before them. They had learned long ago to not get in between a Dean-Y/N fight; it was how Sam earned his first black eye as a kid.
The stone face was beginning to turn red, “No. No we are not out of options. Our original plan could still work. We can still shove the Devil back in the box!”
“And how do you think that would affect me, huh? I can already feel how being away from him is affecting me. Imagine if we put him back in the cage, what would happen to me? We’re Winchester’s, this is apparently our destiny!”
Dean scoffed, “Destiny?? God can take destiny and shove it right up his ass. You shouldn’t have any part in this, Y/N. I should’ve made you stay at Stanford when Dad went missing. This isn’t your fight; you aren’t even really a Winchester.”
“DEAN!”
You barely heard Sam’s exclamation. Your eyes went wide and your chest tightened as your worst fear became reality right in front of you. Ever since you found out you weren’t really their sister this was your greatest fear, that they’d drop you like yesterday’s newspaper.
The room was silent as they awaited your reaction. A single tear slipped down your face as you finally met Dean’s gaze again.
“Get out,” you said quietly.
You were too calm. It would’ve been better if you had started screaming at him. Bobby started herding Dean towards the door while Sam remained in the corner of the room. Dean had immediately regretted what he’d said as soon as it slipped past his lips. He turned and paused in the doorway, “Y/N/N-”
“I SAID GET OUT!” You grabbed the glass of water from the bedside table and launched it towards your brother. It impacted on the wall near his head, Dean ducking out of the doorway in the nick of time.
You were breathing heavily as the door closed. You walked up and leaned your forehead against it, tears streaming down your face when a hand landed on your shoulder. Spinning around you came face to face with Sam, who you had forgotten was still in the room.
“Please, just go Sam.”
“Dean didn’t mean that, Y/N. He’s just upset and worried. You ARE a Winchester, no matter if John and Mary are your parents or not. Obviously, you were meant to be in our family and as Bobby always says, family don’t end with blood.”
You smiled at your twin who returned it. In that moment you knew what you were going to do about the situation at hand. But you knew you couldn’t without saying something to Sam.
“Sam, you’re the best twin any girl could ever ask for. You’ve been my best friend my whole life and you were there for me through everything. I love you, Sam. So much. But you can’t be there for me through this. I’m sorry.”
“I love you too, Y/N/N. What’s going on? What’re you sorry for?”
“For this.” You opened the door and shoved your brother through, closing and locking it after he was out. To ensure your twin’s six-foot-four frame wouldn’t bust through, you shoved the dresser in front of it as well.
Standing there for a second, you just listened to Sam bang on the door, calling for you and then for Dean and Bobby. You knew you didn’t have much time before the three of them would be able to get the door open.
You closed your eyes and for a minute the room was bathed in silence. When you opened them again, you waited expectantly. Suddenly, there was a whoosh sound and you turned to the figure that had appeared in front of the window.
“Y/N, your brothers are on the other side of that door and very upset. What is happening? Why have you barricaded yourself from them and called me?” Cas squinted his eyes and tilted his head at you, a trait you had always found endearing.
“I need help Cas and I know you’re the only one who will help me.”
“What is it that you need?”
You took a deep breath and took a step towards the angel, “I need you to help me summon Lucifer.”

ollie’s book rec list
hey y’all i got libby this last year and its expanded my reading a bunch. I talked about what books I liked on twitter earlier but I wanted to move that over here. These books aren’t in order of preference, just when I read them. I’ll probably be updating this list throughout the year as well.
Stuff I loved:
Gideon the Ninth- Tamsyn Muir: Probably my favorite book from this year, I’m eagerly awaiting for the sequel. WAs everything I wanted in a book, witty and clever. Lesbian necromancer and buff swordgirl end up taking part in a contest that entangles them in murder and mysteries. Its sci-fi but not hard sci-fi and sticks mostly to one planet. I’m witholding judgement on the ending until I read the second book because I have some conflicting feelings about it. Tags: F/F romance, bones, so many bones, Sci-fi, mystery
Ancillary Justice - Ann Leckie: Told from the perspective of a ship AI that was once many different ancillaries. The story jumps back and forth between the present where she inhabits one body and the past to how that came to occur. It was super unique and engaging. I’ve seen this on a few lists for LGBT content which maybe there is in later books but that tag comes from the the ship AI being confused by gender since her language just uses “she/her” pronouns for everything. Therefor, yes technically any romances that occur are queer because every single character is referred to via she/her. I love language stuff like that though. Theres so many details that I was deeply fascinated by. Tags: sci fi, space politics, clones, unique perspective.
The Raven Tower - Ann Leckie: Similar to her other book above, she plays with storytelling and narrator perspective. This is from the perspective a god who is a giant rock and switches between past and present. It was a bit slow at first, as it is a rock telling the story, but its well worth it and the ending was so fulfilling. I REALLY enjoyed the world building, everything felt neatly crafted as piece by piece the machine comes together and turns slowly. The protagonist human is also explicitely trans. Tags: politics, fantasy, god wars, trans protagonist.
Swordspoint - Ellen Kushner: An older book, but focuses around the politics of a city where swordsmen fromt he lower city are hired to fight for the aristocrats in the higher city. Follows the best swordsman and his [insufferable] scholar boyfriend, but switches perspectives a lot. Its fun, I might reread it. Tags: heavy politics, aristocrat bullshit, M/M romance, swordfighting!
Kings of the Wild - Nicholas Eames: This book read Very much like someone’s first classic D&D campaign, for better or for worse. I Loved it because the heart, passion, and sincerety put into it was so palpable and it feels like a campaign where everyone comes in with goofy joke characters and then midway through they get Really into it and suddenly everyone’s crying because that joke backstory they made has implications. Its about a bunch of retired legendary old men adventurers who get called back for one more job - to rescue the leader’s daughter. Tags: Sad old men, good fathers, fantasy, gay wizard, tabletop inspired.
Bloody Rose - Nicholas Eames: The sequel to the previous book (though it could be read alone). It really goes into more depth and analyzes some of the previous worldbuilding more, pulling apart some of the problems in the world that were swept away previously. I liked it slightly less but its still very good. It follows a bard joining up with an adventuring band to fight a...dragon? Maybe. Tags: F/F romance, are monsters people, necromancy, dragons, fantasy.
The Golem and the Jinni - Helene Wecker: A newly made golem woman and a Djinn who was trapped for thousands of years both in up in New York City in 1900, and their paths eventually intertwine. Really amazing perspective of Jewish and Arab immigrant communities and cultures in NYC. Switches point of view through many characters in the communities who come in and out of their lives. Tags: Supernatural beings, urban fantasy, historical.
The Monster of Elendhaven - Jennifer Giesbrecht: Very short book I read in one sitting about terrible evil men doing terrible evil things. One of them is unkillable, the other one is sorcerer and theyre tied together through a dark fate to destroy the world. I was deeply into the mythology and the way everything wove together. You know I’m a sucker for weird god stuff and I was provided for. Uhh trigger warning for a lot of stuff here, graphic violence, sexual assault, etc. Tags: Evil stuff, magic, dark mythology and folklore, capitalism, revenge plots.
The Black God’s Drums - P. Djeli Clark: Another short one read in one sitting, set in an alternate post-civil war setting New Orleans where a girl has a Goddess of storms living inside her. Tags: alternate history, bi protagonist, gods and goddesses.
The Claidi Journals - Tanith Lee: So this was a reread of a kind of obscure series I read when I was a kid and I immensely enjoyed. Caveat that it is a young-adult series but it was such a fascinating and vibrant blend of fantasy magic and sci-fi, there’s little blend between the magic and technology of the realm. It’s about terrible families doing terrible things and the women who got accidentally caught up in it. It also has one of the most interesting women characters I’ve ever read who doesn’t even appear much in the books but whose legacy impacts every character. Tags: Science fantasy, aristocrat bullshit, bad moms, hetero but chill.
Mixed Feelings:
Uprooted - Naomi Novik: Reclusive wizard who holds an evil forest at bay takes on an apprentice girl who gets entangled in further politics of the nation. I got Really into the worldbuilding, plot, and writing of this book and it hooked me pulling me along. However I have a major frustration with it that really prevents me from putting it in the “loved” category. If I could edit out about 20 lines I’d have found it perfect. I know other folks who disagree with me though so I’ll still recomend it. Tags: wizards, nature magic, politics, grumpy tower wizard, unfortunately heterosexual.
Of Fire and Stars - Audrey Coulthurst: Lesbian princesses and arranged marriages uh oh. Ones a ranger jock the others a sorcerer. Its fine and cute, I wasn’t really happy with the antagonist reveal at the end though. Tags: Aristocrat bullshit, politics, F/F romance, arranged marriage angst, forbidden magic.
Wayward Son - Rainbow Rowell: I really enjoyed the first book of this series and found it a delightfully self-indulgent transparent Harry Potter derivation. That sort of falls apart in the second book where having to build off something that worked as a one-off just doesn’t extend to a more filled out story and left me feeling unsatisfied. But, once again, the world building is delightful and I’m charmed by the magic system and a British person’s opinion of America. Tags: M/M romance, magic, America!, roadtrip, vampires
The Last Sun - K.D. Edwards: Modern fantasy tarot inspired world building. The main character is the last remnant of the “Sun” house that was ripped apart in a terrible way. He has PTSD and is hired to find a missing man, along the way uncovering a deeper conspiracy involving his house and past. It was fine, its a good book. I just wasn’t into it that much. Also massive trigger warnings for sexual assault, torture, etc. Tags: M/M romance, mystery, gritty, magic.
Vicious - V.E. Schwab: I enjoyed it and it was a short quick read, but for some reason I’ve never been able to get into V.E. Schwab much. Not sure why. Man with power over pain is released from prison and seeks vengeance on his former friend who put him there - who is now a superhero, and adopts a young girl necromancer in the process. Tags: villains, everyone is evil, superpowers, modern, necromancy, unwilling father figure
The City Stained Red - Sam Sykes: I really just started skimming while reading this one tbh. Trash man swordfighter and his disfunctional adventuring party trying to collect their payment in a terrible city. It felt like someone’s D&D campaign but in the worst way where everyone is an edgelord dark backstory. I honestly didn’t like a single character. But, that’s fine it just wasn’t for me. I see this get put on lists for having a bi-character. Which I guess technically but I wasn’t a huge fan of how that became relevant. Tags: tabletop inspired but insecure about it, gritty, terrible city, terrible people, bi protagonist

“Look out!”
Grabbed by Jimin’s vines he pulled you out of the oncoming boulder-sized chunk of road, Jimin dropped you almost instantly apologizing. “I am sorry,” he saw the reaction caused by the venom from his vines but it eased and your skin returned to normal.
“It’s okay I am fine, Jungkook isn’t though one of them has him hypnotized,” you moved again working on the fight, “you didn’t know what to do the only spells strong enough to stop your monster brother were spells that could kill him.”
While your side was more physical magic the other had more mental so it was hard to fight on another. Lunging forward you began fighting close range with your brother. “Thackery, come on, it’s me your sister. Do you remember?”
“I’m not your brother anymore” this voice layered a deep rumble with a shrill tone laced together. The demon looked at you with glowing red eyes and swung his huge arm into your stomach with a heavy thud sending you into a small building another boulder headed your way.
The muscular man had taken the opportunity while you had been knocked down to trap you, crushing you with bits of the road and buildings. Jungkook disintegrated and Hoseok let out a loud cry. You fought against the rocks that were rapidly closing in pinning you to the ground and crushing you.
“Wonho!” A voice shouted at the muscular man as Jimin attached himself to the man, wrapping them both in vines, the venom didn’t affect his opponent as much as Jimin hoped. The man who you believed was Wonho began grabbing at the vines.
“Y/n, do something?” Jimin shouted
“You have to let go!” you shouted, starting a particular spell you knew from the books your brother found you, you didn’t practice them as they weren’t nice spells.
“It’s alright, just do it, I will move in time,” he gave you a reassuring smile and you nodded finishing casting the spell pointing the sceptre directly. The spell shot through the sceptre and hit both of them, the two falling to the ground and the vines shriveling up and the two screaming in agony as the curse ate away at their bodies.
You screamed in despair pushing off the boulder with magic and racing over lunging to save Jimin, he was choking on his own breath you were about to start the anti curse when you were hit by a giant burning limb.
“Do you remember when you released me, that day when you cursed your brother. I didn't get to take his body fully but I clutched onto his soul hidden deep within his body.” The burning demon called to you mockingly, “I have waited seven years to take over this body and finally I have the chance!”
You didn’t want to hurt anyone anymore, You laid there in the rubble dropping your sceptre. “Please Thack, I need you to fight this thing. This isn’t you?” Your plea was nothing short of pathetic. A monstrous foot pressed down on your chest and you felt a few ribs crack under pressure.
“Your brother is Dead.” The thing laughed maniacally, that statement hit you in the chest, the cold smoke pouring from your body. Your hand reaches for the sceptre, fingers brushing the handle but unable to secure it. Dizzy from the lack of oxygen your vision grew dark. There was a howl in the distance and the ground began to shake.
You couldn’t move to see what was coming but the demon crushing your chest was tackled by something big, the growls coming from this new creature were loud. “Y/n are you okay?” Taehyung’s voice was soft inside your head and you looked at him shocked.
“Taehyung?” You asked quietly and he nudged you with his paw.
“I woke up like this and I can’t change back.” His voice continued to pour into your thoughts. It was as if you were imagining what he was saying but different.
Hoseok frowned “Taehyung traded his human body to live, it’s gone your human presence, I can’t feel it anymore.”
“It’s fine, we can deal with that later. I mean, I practically lived as a dog anyway, we have to finish this fight.” Taehyung gave a very large sigh “Where is Jimin and Jungkook?”
“They are dead” Namjoon spat blood onto the pavement. Taehyung let out a howl and started attacking the demon.
Breathing had become difficult; the broken ribs were digging into your lungs painfully. Bending down and grabbing your sceptre there were no wavering thoughts in your mind. You were accepting your fate, dark magic was what you had and you were going to use it. Lifting the sceptre, it grew larger than a cello and dwarfed you completely and yet you could move it as if it were a child's foam sword.
You opened your brother's anti curse book and began flipping through the pages nothing was written about demons. Everyone was suffering and you couldn’t take it any longer. Stepping forward you raised your sceptre in one hand, the other cradling your injured side. There was no spell for this you were going to make one, magic could be manipulated if you were strong enough and right now you didn’t care what it cost this was going to happen.
You raised the sceptre and the demon was lifted into the air. You didn’t have any fancy words so you just started talking hoping it would be enough. “I will trade my life if you banish this demon and spare my brother” You don’t know what happened but you must have done something right as there was a bright light.
When you woke up you were in the underworld again, in your hand was your axe like sceptre. The bodies of both covens lay scattered on the floor; all those except Jungkook, Jimin and Wonho. Carefully you dragged the axe across the floor, dodging the unconscious.
Never breaking stride you headed towards the stone table, the corpses sitting around it turned to you. You stepped up onto the table grasping the handle of the other sceptre and ripping it from the stone embedding your sceptre in the middle. The corpses seemed to wake up properly coming to consciousness.
“Ah, it seems we have a new student” The corpse to the right of the empty chair grinned, the bones in his jaw cracking as they were rigid.
“You definitely look like our family” a woman smiled
A low whistle could be heard “That is the biggest sceptre we have seen” You looked at it and them, “Well don’t stand around all day take your seat, you are the next heir to the underworld and judging by the size of your power a rightful heir at that.”
Taehyung woke shaking his head and standing, if he was any taller his head would touch the ceiling. Which was crazy to think as standing on the street not long ago he was as tall as a third-story apartment.
One particularly old corpse who was more skeletal than the others pointed a decrepit metatarsal in the general direction of Taehyung. His mouth fell open so wide his jaw fell off and clattered onto the floor.“Do my eyes deceive me or is that the legendary canine depicted in the legends?”
“You don’t have any eyes, you idiot, none of us do, we are dead and it only has one head the picture shows the dog of Hades having three” Taehyung shook his head playfully and with his powers of shape-shifting had two more heads grow on either side of his. “I stand corrected, darling relation of mine, could you please restore us, we would rather not creak and clatter about.”
“Why should I restore you?” you queried an eyebrow raised. “I don’t even know how?”
“What kind of mentors would we be if we couldn’t teach you to the best of our abilities,” she smiled. “All you have to do is read the restoration spell in that book over there.”
On a lectern was a book and you stepped over, turning the pages slowly and carefully until you found the spell reading the page they each started to return to the living flesh restoring and they looked young again. Even yours and those injured on the ground began to heal. One of the ladies placed the old man’s jaw back on and it fused into place a long beard growing from his chin.
“Grandfather?” you asked and he turned “Ah, my granddaughter it has been so long, part of me knew you would be the next in line for the throne of the underworld. Take your friends back and say goodbye. You can visit them every now and then but this is a full-time job.”
Turning around you saw them all getting up off the ground. Your brother didn’t want to go begging you to stay but you knew you couldn’t, being in the underworld just felt right.
For the second time in your life, you had found where you belonged. The first had been the Bangtan coven even if most of them didn’t fully trust or support your profession. After Jungkook was returned they were all dealing with the loss of Wonho and Jimin. You went to leave when you heard a voice.
“I can’t stay here,” Taehyung’s deep voice echoed in your head and you hummed. “This is my natural form now and it would be tiring having to shrink myself down every day plus some part of me feels tied to you, indebted in a way.”

Sibling Jealousy - Chapter 5
Fic’s Summary: Reader has known the Winchesters for a long time, almost two years before Cas entered their lives. After that, since Reader was the only one actually teaching the angel about humanity customs and stuff like that, properly, they developed a closer relationship, on the parent-kid way. But it was never verbally acknowledged. Now, with Lucifer’s child on the way, life stabs some sense and realizations onto Reader, but there’s no time for feelings in this house.
Author’s Note: This is mainly a fic with the purpose of developing a family relationship with the characters, of mutual support, and I don’t plan on adding romance for Reader, because that’s not my final goal.
Pairings: Castiel/Reader (Platonic), Jack Kline/Reader (Platonic), Dean and Sam Winchester/Reader (Platonic)
Warnings: Usual canon violence and conflicts, as well as injuries and blood mentions, emotional struggles such as feeling unloved, like an outcast, low self-esteem issues and if you think something else should be mentioned let me know.
<<Last Chapter - Next Chapter>>
Chapter’s Author’s Note: Yes so, a long time has passed, and well, I still am halfway through the next chapter, and I’m still kind of stuck on the same episode from season 13...not having a supportive team for school work sucks u all, don’t be like that. Hope you enjoy this, and remember, comments are highly appreciated, and if you see a typo let me know, it helps me improve ^^
Chapter Five: Therapy and Emptiness
Word Count: 3,170
It’s been almost a week since the discussion on the map room took place, and Dean had been really silent the whole time, while Sam had made small talk to you and Jack, borrowing him a computer he didn’t use all the time.
Jack was spending most of his days on his bedroom, the first two with you teaching him to make his bed, how to work the computer and a few lessons on how to heal people when you bumped against some equipment on the makeshift gym, where you were spending up to three hours divided along the days, a coping mechanism that allowed you to let steam and anger out and left your body tired enough to almost black out at night after touching your bed.
So far he’s been able of healing (yet not every time) from paper cuts to small scraps you had made on your hands while sharpening swords, blades and knives with a sharpening rock - because you also found the process soothing and kind of relaxing, but your mind still wandered making you lost focus, ending on said cuts.
Yet, you told Jack to not tell Sam and Dean about the healing, and when he asked why you were going to lie, you told him the truth...mainly because he still didn’t have a concept of morals good enough to just know why.
“If we tell them you are able of healing injuries, they are not even gonna listen to the fact they are small ones, much less to how exhausted it makes you. They are probably going to expect you to heal their deep cuts, and claw marks and everything they get from hunts. And one, you are not ready yet, second they haven’t earned a right to be healed by you after all what they’ve made you gone through. Maybe Sam, but he’s on thin ice.”
“Ice? But, the floor here is not thin, is it?” Ah, another thing you’ve been up to has been teaching Jack the meaning of some words and expressions, like right there.
---
The moment Sam told you to get ready because you were going hunting, you immediately asked who was going to stay with Jack.
“No one. He’s coming with us.” He seemed unbothered by his idea, proud even.
“Come again? Jack is going with us to a hunt? Do you think that’s a good idea?”
“He could use some fresh air, and being coped up in here is not going to help him (Y/N). We all need to go out a little.” He almost sounded like he was both asking for permission and just announcing the facts…
“Have you talked to Jack already? What does he thinks about this? Does he wants to tag along?” Even if his answer was a yes, you would be having a talk with Sam to tell him how not just because Jack looked old enough to be on hunt meant he was mentally prepared to be on them.
“Yes, I went to him after talking Dean into letting him come along. And he wants to be good, and with hunting we save people.” He shrugged as if it was the most normal and obvious thing.
“Fine. But we have to make sure Dean doesn’t throw him into the fire line.” You rolled your eyes at the idea, but you were also frowning, so Sam just gave you a grateful smile before going out of your room and telling you how you were leaving in 30 minutes.
You still were going to have to talk to Jack after this, letting him know how things could go wrong. Just, warn the kid.
---
As usual you were riding on the back of Baby, but Jack was with you this time. You weren’t surprised he wasn’t in a suit, since he barely had clothes (Dean didn’t allow you to take him into town just to get some for him, so you had to go out and get a few things in hopes they would fit and he would like them), but when Dean slammed the car’s door closed you flinched. You could almost touch his despise for Jack.
The first lady’s information didn’t really help, and after finding out Jack had gotten out of the car, you quickly went to close it before getting inside the crime scene, where they were staring at a blood stain, and talking about going to the grave of the wife to salt and burn what seemed to be a ghost issue, or a revenant.
You weren’t so sure it was either of those options, and you told them that, but you were ignored. Well, Jack did pay attention, but he didn’t know a lot about monsters so he couldn’t back you up or give his own opinion...not like Dean would let him anyway.
As night fell, you went to the graveyard, and took the shovels out of the Impala’s truck.
After explaining to Jack why seeing the inside of the grave was of relevance in this case, Dean put him to dig, and went to grab a beer from the car.
Sam went after him, telling him how he was transforming into their dad. You shivered at the memories of John, for both your experiences with him and the stuff the brothers told you about...mainly Sam, but you could see the aftermath of said stuff on Dean almost every day.
You decided to keep Jack company and actually help him, since neither of the brothers seemed like they were going to help after screaming at each other.
---
Well, the grave did had a body, which left the two main options to just a vengeful spirit.
Sam helped Jack out of the hole and Dean helped you after he saw you were kind of struggling. The soil wasn’t as compacted as you might think okay? I kept crumbling beneath you.
“My mom could be a ghost?” You weren’t sure if what you heard on Jack’s voice was fear or hope.
“No, we burned the bodies. And what burns, stays dead.” At least Dean was kind of talking to Jack…
A quick glance at the green eyed brother told you he meant Castiel. You burned Castiel’s body. And that was his way of accepting Cas wasn’t coming back.
You had to swallow the lump on your throat, and went back to look at the flames consuming the body inside the giant hole.
---
Turns out, it wasn’t a ghost nor a revenant, as you suspected.
Another person ended up dead, and you had to go to the police station to get more information, finding out all the victims had the same therapist, and deciding that giving her a visit had to be the next step.
The only issue was, how to see her and get to talk to her and see if you could gather more information, more clues about the case and what you were up against.
The solution? Going in as a family and pretend you wanted the family group program.
What could go wrong, right? Right.
Everything could go bad.
First, Jack almost blew your cover at saying he had lost his mom when you all were asked who you’ve lost, issue Sam fixed by saying you all where siblings. Then, after said incident, Dean ordered Jack to not speak unless he told him to, at which you pushed Dean off of Jack.
Inside the room, Sam and Dean took the couch closer to the therapist, while you and Jack took the one across them, yet slightly more afar from Mia, and you could feel how rigid Jack was, and you weren’t even sure if he was paying attention to what was being told on the room.
...But maybe that was for the best.
The therapist quickly wanted to address how Dean handled things, and without warning, Sam and Dean started almost shouting at each other, about how Sam didn’t want to accept Mary was dead, and then about how Dean at least had a relationship with her and how Sam just wanted to hold onto the hope of having the same if Mary was alive.
Welp, that went great.
Sam stormed out of the living room like place, closing the doors behind him, leaving a very awkward silence behind him, which was quickly filled by Dean drinking from his whiskey wine pot bottle, earning a glance and scoff from Mia.
“What? Got a problem?” Please don’t anger her, please don’t anger her...
She first scolded him about his anger issues, and how it wasn’t her business if he wanted to fix that up or not, but she told him about how he directed his anger at everyone around him.
“Jack? The poor kid can even look at you. Look at him he’s terrified of you.” You glanced at him, and saw how indeed he tensed even more at being mentioned in the conversation yet not asked anything directly.
“And (Y/N)? I can see you probably boss them around, if you even acknowledge them to begin with. They don’t feel comfortable here with you, yet stands you because of...I’m going to guess because of Sam and Jack.” Ok, what?
You sent her a confused and undignified look, because well yes, you were bossed around, and got along better with Sam, and now that Jack had joined you did felt like drifting more apart from Dean but you...well, Dean didn’t really spent time with you before if Cas wasn’t around, or if you weren’t watching a movie, because that didn’t involve a lot of talking.
...You didn’t like to think about not really fitting with the Winchesters the latest years and now this woman has brought up all of your doubts to the surface again. Thanks.
“Jack? Pff, we are just peachy, right kid?” Dean’s voice did scare you, like he would snap at any moment.
“Just peachy.” Jack’s reply was a copy of what Dean said and sounded almost robotic.
“And (Y/N) is just fine, if they didn’t like us they would have run away a long time ago. Sam sure did for a while.” Dean didn’t even look at you, at neither of you, and took another swing of the alcohol.
Actually you’ve wanted to leave the brothers since a while ago and go with Cas, but since he always went back to them, to Dean, it wasn’t really an option. And even after all these years you really thought you’ll end up being part of their family again. After all, before Sam left for college you felt like family.
The sound of doors slamming open cut your thoughts and sent you standing up and pulling Jack with you, instincts ticking in.
“Careful! She’s a shifter!!” Screamed Sam while pointing a gun at Mia.
Now you put Jack behind both Sam and you, taking your own gun out. That one didn’t have silver bullets, but they would slow her down enough for you to pull your silver knife from your belt.
Turns out a creature read you all so easily. Well, that couldn’t be good.
---
After deciding Mia might be telling the truth about wanting to help people, Dean and Jack went to check if it was true she was somewhere else when the first murder took place, while you and Sam stayed behind, checking the footage to see the eyes of everyone who came in and out.
You didn’t really wanted to leave Jack with Dean, but Sam reassured you it was fine.
Since your computer was slower than Sam’s, you decided to go get some water and stretch your legs, and when you came back Sam was gone, Mia informing you that Buddy, her ex, was acting as one of her patiences and Sam went to the address in hopes of finding him and killing the shifter.
Great, he left without a word.
Your face must have shown your hurt, because the therapist answered your unspoken question.
“He told me to let you know he was gonna be fine, and needed you here for whenever your brothers were back...but, the four of you...you are not really siblings, are you?” You let a dry chuckle leave your mouth.
“Nah, just Dean and Sam. Neither Jack nor I are blood related. Dean and Sam, we used to be closer before, as if we were actual family, but, at some point, a distance started forming, and even when it gets slim at moments between one of them and me, there’s always this, feeling, of how if they had to choose they would save each other, leaving me to perish.” It had happened before, that one time they left you in a vampire’s nest. They proclaimed they didn’t know you were held hostage, but Sam was there with you before you were taken.
Talk about trust issues. Castiel was the only one who made sure the three of you were safe and healthy most of the time, taking special attention to you.
“You lost someone too. If their mother isn’t yours, then who did you lose?” When you blinked, you saw how your vision got blurry with unshed tears.
“Uh, a friend of them? Us? He’s older than me, and, well, might as well say it out loud now. I saw him as a father figure. Castiel, he uh, sacrificed himself to save us all, including Jack, and I did get to say bye, but not like I wanted. And I haven’t been able of mourning him, we haven’t had time to rest since…” You stopped talking as soon as you hard the Impala engine outside, and went to wash your face.
You heard Dean being told by Mia about Sam going out, but you didn’t heard Jack requesting Mia to have a chat.
When you got out of the bathroom, you heard shushed voices from behind a door. Recognizing Jack’s you walk closer, and hear him talking to...Kelly? But, she was dead and...oh.
Mia took Jack’s mom form and he was not talking with her. At least what Mia was telling him was good, actual advice and good words.
You left a sigh of relief out, realizing how bad Jack’s been doing, and well, at least he was getting help.
You started to get up, after you heard Jack thanking Mia, but you were soon yeeted threw against and through the door, crashing against a lamp and a small table, and finally landing hard against the floor, bleeding cuts covering your left arm.
When you lifted your head, you saw Dean knocking Jack out, and then he came to do the same to you.
---
You woke up at the sound of Jack screaming, your blurry vision seeing Buddy flying by that energy Jack created, and Sam on the room’s door.
You were just starting to notice your hands were tied when everything was already over: Mia refused to kill you, Sam had shoot Buddy, the room was all bloody and destroyed and you saw Jack was not very conscious.
After being released, you stepped as far from Dean as you could without looking like a scared, kicked street dog, and went to check on Jack, who was already getting better.
Mia insisted on the four of you to get out, that she would take care of everything (meaning the body and the room), but Sam and you weren’t so sure. It was Dean the one convincing you to leave, and the first one to walk out of the room, Sam following close behind but stopping when he didn’t heard steps behind him.
You saw Mia talking to Jack, and the later giving her a hug. Unconsciously, you hugged yourself, trying to find some comfort. Jack looked like a weight had been lifted from his shoulders, meaning the conversation he had with Mia-Kelly did worked.
You were just left feeling emptier than before.
After Jack let her go, he went to walk past you, standing besides Sam.
You looked at Mia, who had a raised eyebrow, making you realize you were still hugging yourself.
“I’m just a little cold, the blood loose dropped my temperature a little.” You made a dismissive gesture with your hand, but you could see you weren’t fooling her. Maybe she was prepared to be a therapist after all.
“Talk to them, you are not alone.” You barely heard her, and nodded to let her know you did.
As if that was easy.
---
When you got back to the Bunker, you went straight to the sink on the kitchen to clean your arm again, since it was closer than the bathroom.
You were redoing the bandages when Jack came in to get a glass of water, but as soon as he got in, Dean came in too. The tension on the air raised tenfold immediately.
Jack and Dean exchanged little ‘hey’s, but neither was looking at each other.
“Listen kid, you saved Sam back there, I’m grateful...you did good back there, okay? Good job.” You saw the exchange, and noticed how Dean was really trying to look ad Jack, and the almost newborn Nephilim gave him a little smile, nodding.
You now knew the one knocking Jack and yourself out was the shifter, but it triggered the fear you had against Dean from his demon and Mark of Cain days, so when he walked past you, patting your shoulder, you couldn’t help but flinch.
Dean noticed, but didn’t say anything, just murmured a soft ‘sorry’ before leaving the kitchen, probably to find Sam.
Jack, on the other side, went to sit in front of you, and asked with a calm and quiet voice tone.
“Uh, (Y/N)? Are you alright? Does your shoulder hurts?” he was really concerned for you, so maybe you should be honest. After all, he still needs to learn about lies and you didn’t want to be the one teaching him that.
“My shoulder is a little sore, but that’s not why I flinched. Part of my mind thinks Dean will throw or hit me again. I know a few hours ago it was the shifter the one that knocked us up, but my instincts haven’t caught up with that yet.” Okay, you weren’t lying, just leaving certain info out. He didn’t need to know that. Not yet anyway.
He hummed and nodded, understanding what you meant, stood up to pick another glass and filled it with water. You were about to tell him he could use the same glass when he offered it to you.
“Drinking water is vital after losing blood, right?”
“Water is important in general, but yes. Thank you, Jack.” You washed both glasses after finishing yours and then called for Jack.
“Let’s use the fact I’m already covered in cuts to keep practicing your healing skills, shall we?” the kid glowed at the idea of practicing not hurting people, and catch up with you on the alley.
Maybe not thinking about Cas, but focusing on good things might help you…

RotTMNT/Baron Jitsu fanfiction: Dating… With Children - BONUS CHAPTER
((Just consider this a bonus chapter that could pretty much take place at any day during the story, since it's more drabble-like than the other chapters.
As much as I LOVE writing cute Baron Jitsu stuff, the other main part of this story is Draxum also bonding with the boys and learning to become a worthy stepdad. (or, second dad? Since Lou was never married before? Whatever) And I really didn't want that part of the story to sorta fall by the wayside in favor of romance so, here's a whole chapter focusing on Draxum and the boys. Enjoy! ^v^))
Draxum had never really had much experience with kids in his adult life. No brothers or sisters meant no nieces or nephews, cousins or other distant relatives weren’t really much of an option either, and the lab he worked at wasn’t exactly the type to get field trips.
Still, dating a man with four young boys allowed him to learn quickly and pick up on little things. One of the things he had noticed right away was that once a child thought of you as a good person - or at the very least, considered them someone they trusted enough and didn’t mind being around - they wanted that person to know every single detail about them.
Whether that be their favorite food (pizza, though each of them had vastly different favorite side dishes, snacks, desserts and juice. Draxum honestly wasn’t sure how Lou could keep it all straight), their favorite colors (that one was as obvious as, well, as the colored shirts they were wearing) or, the most ‘important’ of all, their favorite toys…
“-And this is The Annihilation, an’ this is Liberty Bill - he’s part of the Liberty League.”
“Naturally,” Draxum said dryly, adjusting his position slightly on the boy’s floor so that his legs didn’t fall asleep.
“Yeah, they’re okay. My brothers really like them though. But my favorite is-” Raph grinned, holding up an action figure in an orange leotard with a white cape and bear ears on his mask. “GHOST BEARRRR!”
“Ghost Bear, hm?” The scientist could hardly keep himself from rolling his eyes. How on Earth did these wrestlers come up with such ridiculous names and costume themes? Then again, they probably had to do something to help keep the audience’s attention, along with all the manufactured drama between the so-called ‘athletes’. It was no wonder so many children were fans of it.
“-and he’s always won every fight, and he’s super strong and just SO COOL!” Raph continued as he shook the figure around, “An’ sometimes, when I’m playing wrestling with him, I have him tag team up with other bears!”
The boy in red raised back over to his closet and began to pull out not more action figures, but instead plushies. First a small black bear Beanie Baby - “This is Capt’n Snuggles-” then a much bigger, much more plush bear with a small lab coat- “and this is Dr. Huggenstein, you’d probably like him ‘cause he’s a doctor like you-” and finally, a slightly smaller and very well-loved brown bear plushie covered in stitches and patches- “And THIS is Cheech! He was my first teddy!”
Raph’s smile softened a bit as he hugged the toy. He and Cheech had been friends for a long time… Since before he met Lou, since before he met his brothers! And as far as Raph was concerned, they were going to be friends forever.
“...It- er, He definitely seems special then,” Draxum commented.
Raph nodded. “Yeah, he’s great…” He then scowled slightly. “Some of the older kids back at my old home didn’t think so though. They said havin’ teddy bears makes you a baby, but I didn’t believe them…” Even when their words hurt. “Teddies are cool, and so are real bears.”
“Indeed,” the scientist agreed, “After all, they’re resourceful, resilient, protective of their young-”
“Yeah!” Raph smiled, hugging Cheech again, “And strong too! Really strong, like me! But they’re not jerks or anything, they’re just bein’ bears! That’s why I like them!”
Draxum smiled a bit, watching as Raph began to make Cheech wrestle Liberty Bill. “A good choice for a favorite animal, then...”
….
“I can’t believe you’ve never heard of Jupiter Jim!” Leo shook his head. What, did grown ups just miss out on ALL the fun stuff in life? “My brothers and I have seen all his movies!”
“Oh? All of them?”
“...Weeeell, maybe not all of them-” Sixty movies was a lot, even for a young fan, and some of them hadn’t been re-released on dvd yet- “But we’ve still seen a lot of them, and that’s more than you!”
“Hmph, fine, fine, I’ll give one of them a watch sometime,” Draxum half-promised. He enjoyed the sci-fi genre well enough but, much like the Lou Jitsu movies, Jupiter Jim always just seemed too cheesy for him. At least with the Lou Jitsu movies, he could still count on well done and realistic fight choreography as well as a performance by who he considered was a much more charming lead. ...Not that he had any biases or anything.
“You gotta watch ‘em,” Leo insisted as he dragged out yet another plastic vehicle, this one being a moon buggy (or at least, the Sci-fi Hollywood version of one) with a miniature version of the titular character himself in the driver’s seat. “Especially the ones where he’s gotta make an escape in his buggy, they’re SO cool! And he explores planets, and fights the bad aliens and monsters while saving the good ones!”
With a hop and a determined smirk, Leo activated his light-up space sword. Draxum made sure to take a couple steps back as the boy began swinging it around, but thankfully Leo had practiced enough (and seen the movies enough) that he knew the moves well enough. “Jim’s just the best!” Leo continued, “He’s cool, he’s good at sword fighting, and he can always think of a plan to win and get away and save the day! And he gets to do this all while in space! On the moon! In SPACE!”
Draxum smirked. “I take it you like space?”
“Don’t you?”
“Point taken.”
“It just makes everything cooler and awesomer,” Leo shrugged, “And I’m gonna try to go to the Moon sometime too. You know, in the future. But until then, I’m just gonna keep watching Jim go there.” Suddenly, the boy went quiet, glancing around for any eavesdroppers before bringing his voice to a loud whisper. “And don’t tell Dad but… Sometimes I think Jupiter Jim is even better than the Lou Jitsu in the movies!”
Draxum nearly snorted at that, managing to just barely hold back his chuckles as he promised, “I won’t say a word…”
“Leon might’ve said that Jupiter Jim was the best, but he’s wrong ‘cause he just can’t see who the REAL best character in those movies is!” With a bit of a dramatic flair, Donnie spun around to reveal the doll he had taken off his bookshelf. “Ta-daaaa~!”
Draxum raised his eyebrow, trying to figure out what exactly he was looking at. The doll had spiky bright-green hair, pink skin, eyes that as far as he concerned were much too big for it, and a blue and purple outfit with an atom symbol on it’s belt. The doll also had a giant plastic hammer in it’s hand. “Oh. Well, it’s-”
“Her name is Atomic Lass!” Donnie stated, smiling as he went into the explanation, “She’s a friend of Jupiter Jim’s! She comes from this town on a far away planet called Uraniumville, where she fights crime using her metal hammer and these really neat radiation beams that come from her hands!”
“Ah, I see,” Draxum nodded. That sounded about right, totally in-line with the style of those movies. “Is that why you like her then? Because she’s powerful?”
“Well, yeah,” Donnie replied, looking at the doll, “But she’s also super cool, and super pretty, and tough and, of course, smart.” He smiled at that. “Really, REALLY smart. That was how she got her powers, ‘cause she was also a scientist on her home planet before she became a crime fighter!”
Draxum nodded again, completely understanding now. When most heroes only seemed to rely on muscles and power boost, he could understand rooting for one who also had a brain. Donnie then sighed, fiddling with the doll’s hair a bit. “I know radiation makes humans sick, but I still wish I could just get some uranium and be a hero too instead of just dying from it. And it’ll take me forever to be strong enough to use a giant metal hammer!”
“...” A bit concerning but nonetheless all part of the childhood fantasy, Draxum assumed. “Why don’t you just focus on the things you can do now that make you feel smart and strong, and then figure out the ‘hero’ parts later?” he suggested.
Donnie thought it over. “...I’m trying to get Pop to let me do another science experiment at home, but now I wanna do something else, like… Like making my own robot! They’ve got books on how to make ‘em, you know! I just gotta find the right library… There’s robots you can buy at the toy store too but, I really wanna make my own - and I KNOW I could!”
With how smart and talented the young boy in purple seemed to be, Draxum had no problem believing that Donnie very well could make his own simple robot. Making a mental note to look up robotic projects for children later on, Draxum just smiled back at him. “Sounds like the perfect project to me.”
Donnie was full-on grinning now, eyes determined and mind already whirling with ideas. “Yeah! First robots, and THEN figuring out a way to get superpowers!”
“Well, I’d still maybe put that idea away for now…”
If Mikey wasn’t holding a crayon or marker or paintbrush, then he was usually holding one of his brother’s toys. One of their many action figures, or one of Raph’s plushies or Leo’s toy cars or Donnie’s puzzle toys. All of these toys were happily borrowed, and as long as they were taken care of and eventually put back, the other Jitsu boys didn’t mind whatsoever.
Of course Mikey had his own toys - including a play kitchen where he could ‘practice’ until he was tall enough to safely reach the stove - but more often than not his brothers’ toys were just more interesting to him. ...Still, what he did have that was all his own and that he played with happily was all the more unique, as well as all the more fitting for the young artist.
“Here!” Mikey proudly beamed, shoving the large shoe box into Draxum’s hands, “Look!”
“Wow…” Slowly, Draxum picked up each item one by one. Dolls made out of clothespins and spoons covered in paint, string and googly eyes. Birds and nimals made with paper and sticks and glue (loooots of glue, much to the doctor’s slight annoyance). Creatures that Draxum had no idea what they could be, created with puff balls and chunks of styrofoam and pipe cleaners, but still obviously made with lots of love.
And finally, folded carefully at the bottom of the box, a crane made out of a single sheet of bright orange paper. “Origami, right?” Draxum asked.
“Uh huh,” Mikey nodded, gently taking it from him, “But I didn’t make this one, Papa did! He made it for me the first night we came here to live with him, when I was too excited to fall asleep.” He pulled at the tail a bit, making the crane’s wings flap. “He said that paper cranes caused good luck, and that some people try to make a thousand so they can get a wish! But I don’t need a wish, so I just make ‘em whenever I feel like it.”
“That’s fair,” Draxum smiled, “I’m not sure if you could fit a thousand cranes in this house, even if you wanted to.”
“Heh, yeah, it’d be wayyyy too crowded!” Mikey giggled. He looked at Draxum, and then back at his crane. “...Stay right there!” Mikey told him as he ran over to his small desk, pulling out a sheet of paper. Not having much of a choice, Draxum leaned back slightly on the child’s bed and watched him work.
Mikey was surprisingly meticulous for his age, his tongue poking out in concentration as he carefully did each fold, though not once stopping or making a mistake. It was as if this sort of craft just came naturally to him, or perhaps he’d just done it enough times to know the steps by heart. Either way, it was pretty impressive, Draxum had to admit. Once the actual crane was done, it was onto adding markings and designs with markers and crayon along with the finishing touch of a bit of glitter before finally being given to Draxum.
“Here!” Mikey said, holding the teal crane up as far as he could, “Now you can have a good luck crane too, and it’ll make sure you’ll find a neat science thing at your work, or that you have good dates with my papa!”
Draxum chuckled, taking the crane. “I don’t think I need good luck to have a good time with your father, but thank you very much, Mikey.”
The boy beamed, and quickly climbed back up onto the bed to give Draxum a hug. “You’re welcome!”
The colorful crane never did find its way to Draxum’s lab, whether that was on purpose or on accident. But, it did however find a nice home on his nightstand, silently greeting him each night at bedtime and each morning when he woke up.
So, good luck or no, at least there was the small smile that it always seemed to put on his face whenever he noticed it - which only made sense, considering the place (and the family) it came from...
((It's been several episodes since Raph's mentioned his teddy bear collection in 'Mascot Melee', just SHOW US THE TEDDIES ALREADY! His collection sounded so cute, and I absolutely loved the names he had for them, lol. Also Leo being a huge space/scifi nerd in any incarnation is just amusing to me, heh. But yeah, hope you guys liked this! Next time, more Baron Jitsu with a bit of drama thrown in! See you then!))

Fictober, Day 6: “I’ve heard enough, this ends now.”
OCs: Shannon and Noah
Project: Untitled paranormal romance for Fictober18, now tagged #spookyromancenovel on my blog
Potential Triggers: really emotional shouting!
Word Count: 2,432 (um, wow, I had no idea I’d written so much today, it was just flowing out of me)
About: The rest of the scene I started with yesterday’s prompt. The first big fight between my lovebirds, and the first time I get to make it clear what they each value most.
Again, #spookyromancenovel has a WIP page now, where you can find all the Fictober posts if you need to catch up, as well as the novel’s [temporary] blurb, character info, and eventually world-building stuff! I’d really appreciate asks from anyone who’s interested in knowing more.
Eating the pizza seemed to improve his mood, but I bit my lip against giggling when his stomach growled loudly—after he'd finished the slice. “Sorry,” he muttered.
“Don't worry about it. Let's get started, so you can get out as soon as the sun's down.”
He surveyed the table. “This looks alarmingly like all the times we crammed for tests together.”
Just like that, a hundred memories competed for space in my head all at once. Being neighbors had led to us being friends, in the way that kids will when they're young and geography is more important than shared interests. Staying friends throughout high school had naturally evolved into study partners. Both sets of our parents approved, which was great—as long as we studied camped out in the living room at his house, at least. Noah's mother was the type convinced that “studying” in private meant something entirely different, and no way was her son going to waste his education kissing girls.
My parents hadn't cared one bit where we studied, because as far as they were concerned, if I couldn't find a nice Vietnamese boy to settled down with, at least Noah was some form of Asian. Half-Japanese was fine with them, so if we wanted to canoodle, that was all good, as long as I didn't “get into trouble.”
The only sex talk I'd ever gotten from my parents was a repeated string of warnings not to get into trouble. I couldn't blame them, though, for my complete lack of a sex life. I was never the type to rebel against authority just because, and I realized early on that dating someone who didn't look like me just to annoy my parents—anyone, white or black or brown—would make me pretty awful. So I tried to have crushes, and I tried not to restrict myself to any one type of guy.
It didn't end up mattering, because I'd had my heart set on Noah since I was six years old. No one else measured up.
But I wasn't supposed to be mooning over him now, while he watched me space out with a faintly curious and concerned expression. Good sign—he wasn't as numb to emotion as he feared. I rallied myself by grabbing the nearest notebook and looking through it with one hand, while picking up a fresh piece of pizza with the other. “So, let's break this problem down to basics, which means even obvious shit is back on the table. What makes you, Noah Hargrove, different from any other human afflicted by the gargoyle curse?”
“Other humans didn't have their heart removed and replaced with a magically driven construct.” He thought for a moment.
I switched to my current Noah-notebook and started a fresh page with “BRAINSTORMING” in giant letters across the blank space at the top. His response became item number one on a list under the heading Noah's Not Normal. “What else makes you different? Literally anything you can think of. Like—a congenital defect of some kind. Asthma. Whatever.”
“You know I don't have asthma. But, uh...I had my appendix out, remember? When I was ten.” He smiled. “I think I still have the get-well card you made me, in a box somewhere. Or, my parents do, I mean.”
Noah's current relationship with them was far too complicated for me to touch, not now, when we needed to focus. “Right. I doubt the lack of appendix is helping you resist the curse, but it goes on the list.”
By the time I'd finished the pizza, we hadn't come up with anything else relating to his body. He'd been a generally healthy kid, aside from an occasional injury or case of the sniffles. And we'd ruled out any neurodivergence, because he thought his mild social anxiety as a teen couldn't possibly have been a factor, not when he'd taken steps to get over it long before the curse hit him.
“It's weird, though,” he added thoughtfully. “In a lot of ways, this, this isolation, like you called it, reminds me of how I felt then, when I could hardly talk to anyone.”
“Except me.” The parallel was obvious, as soon as he mentioned it.
“Except you. Thanks for always being there for me.”
That. That right there was why I'd been in love with Noah as long as I'd known him, even before I'd realized that how I felt had a name. He'd never pretended he was tough, that he didn't feel things. And he never let an opportunity to thank someone pass him by.
I studied the two-item list so I didn't have to keep looking into his eyes. Missing heart, missing appendix. “This is an ancient curse, and ways of thinking always shape magic. It's from a time before people understood that the brain is the organ of reason, intelligence, and personality. So taking out your heart is what's preventing the transformation from completing.”
“I'm glad you didn't try to take out my brain instead.” Completely serious. “But how did you know what to do?”
“Honestly? Best guess. I know I seemed calm, but I was panicking inside. You were dying.” It was easy to admit when I didn't have to see his reaction. “But most curses involve blood, somehow. If not in casting or transmission, at least to spread it through the body. There's a reason blood magic has such an unsavory reputation. Blood is power. It can be used to good purpose, but it lends itself far better to evil.”
“I think the vampires agree with you.” He paused. “Is that why they hate gargoyles so much? I mean, I don't want to be one, but as far as monsters go, they're reasonably benign. They just, I don't know, hang out on top of the Cathedral and fly around at night to find ghouls and dead animals to eat. I've always thought—well, scavengers do have their place in the food chain.”
“Vampires hate gargoyles?” This was news to me.
“Oh, yeah,” Noah said, almost off-handedly. “It's even in the news. That Conclave that got postponed due to bomb threats? You know, in D.C., between the government and the Vampire Embassy? The proposals were posted online, and I read them. It's low on the list of priorities, but the vampires want recognized government assistance in the extermination of gargoyles.”
I remembered the Conclave being announced, but somehow its postponement hadn't been a blip on my radar, and I sure as hell hadn't paid any attention to what the vampires actually wanted. My stunned confusion that Noah had must have shown. He said, “Miss Conquer with Research doesn't pay attention to politics?”
“Mr. Ghoul Hunter on the Run does?”
“Well, if the entire vampire nation would want to hunt me down and kill me, that's worth knowing.”
“Right. Okay.” I thought for a moment. “Did they want to exterminate anyone else? Like werewolves or banshees or something?”
Noah shook his head. “The whole vampire-werewolf thing is mostly fictional, far as I can tell. Werewolves can't be turned, and vampires, being dead and all, don't get infected with lycanthropy. So they're not really a threat to each other. From what I've seen, as long as the vamps respect wolf territory, there's an understanding of mutual non-aggression.”
“Which is basically how the wolves treat everyone. Got it. I never really researched vampires much, aside from confirming that trying to turn you not only wouldn't lift the curse, it also wouldn't work. Which let me sleep better at night, I'll admit—if vampire were made of stone and could fly, it wouldn't take many of them to pretty much wipe out humans. But if I had been paying more attention, I would have heard about the work on the Archives ages ago, not just today.”
Noah made some small noise, and I looked up to find pure fear on his face. “What?”
I gave him the condensed version of what Wes had told me, finishing up with: “So, I thought, I know it's a stretch but if I could figure out some way to get in there, I'd have access to so much. I'm not expecting to spend an hour there and find a cure, I'm not that naive, but anything I can learn could help.”
“No.”
His flat denial of the first ray of hope I'd had in far too long hurt more than I'd care to admit, and when I go on the defensive, I get flustered. “I wouldn't do it if I couldn't find a way that didn't guarantee my safety--”
“No,” he repeated, louder. “Don't try to find the Archives. It's too risky.”
“But Wes--”
“Wes sounds like a magical wunderkind and all, but don't assume you understand what's going on. Vampires aren't benevolent, they don't share for no reason. If Wes has a skill they can use, they'll barter for it, and they won't turn him instead  to get it for free because vampirism wipes out magic. But you don't have that defense.”
“I'm a Healer!” I protested. I hated arguing with Noah, and this sounded like it was heading for a real fight, but if he wanted to be a sanctimonious ass about my safety, he deserved it. “What good would it do to make me into a plain-Jane vampire?”
“If they managed to get in and saw you doing research about preventing gargoyle transformation--”
“Why wouldn't they want that?” I interrupted. “If they hate gargoyles so much--”
“That would only stop more humans from becoming them, not do anything about the ones that already exist. And that's not my point. You show them you're a genius, and they'll want you to be their genius. Vampires collect people. They'd want you.” He huffed. “It wouldn't even take that. You're gorgeous, they'd turn you and make you into one of their seductresses.”
“What?” Which part of that hurt worst? That Noah casually called me “gorgeous” in the middle of a fight, or that he thought it was a bad thing which made me a candidate for vampire hooker?
He mistook my question for an actual request for enlightenment. “You know the stereotype, Shannon, pretty Asian girl, slinky dress, the fangs only come out after the guy gets what he wants--”
I stood clumsily, knocking the pizza box off the table and banging my shin painfully in the process. “I've heard enough, this ends now. I don't care if you think you're protecting me, you do not get to talk about me like that, like I'm just some, some thing, and you do not get to tell me I'm too young and pretty and unworldly and stupid not to realize that getting into the Archives would be dangerous.”
Noah stood, towering over me. “I never said--”
I was on a roll, though. I rode the momentum and really let him have it, even though part of me feared going too far. Only I didn't know if that meant saying something I could never take back, or pushing Noah to hurt me. I was so angry I almost didn't care. “You call me a genius in one breath, then act I'm an airhead too stupid to live the next. Oh, sorry, big magical protector, didn't mean to threaten your masculinity by assuming I was allowed to look out for myself. What did you think I was going to do, walk into a vampire den and calmly ask them, please don't bite me, take me to your secret collection of priceless manuscripts instead? If I do this, I will have a plan. One that doesn't involve me becoming either a vampire or a freaking prostitute, by the way!”
He grabbed my shoulders from across the table and drew me in. His hands were huge, strong, and uncomfortably cool, but the pressure was gentle. “Promise me you won't do this.”
“No.” I made the single syllable every bit as hard and cold and definite as the stone he was turning into. “How can you ask me not to pursue something that might save you? And you're not even asking, you're demanding.”
He took several heaving breaths before he spoke. I expected rage—I got sadness. “How can you ask me to stand by while you risk your life? What you've been doing so far, devoting yourself to find a solution, that's already so much of your life you've given up for me, don't think I don't understand that. If you save me, but lose yourself in the process—how could I ever live with the guilt?”
Damn him. Damn him for being right, while also being so, so wrong. I put my hands on his chest and pushed, not because I could break free, but because he would know to let me go. I couldn't win against that argument, but I was too riled to capitulate. I ran to my room instead, like any naive, stupid little girl would do. I slammed the door and locked it behind me.
Five or ten minutes into a really satisfying cry, I heard a tap on my door. “Shannon? Are you okay?”
Dumb question, but Noah had never been great at dealing with me when I cried. He did his best, he tried, but it never got easy for him, and I'd had to forgive a lot of well-meaning bumbling over the years. Being direct usually worked best. “I don't want to talk to you right now,” I told him, loudly enough to be clear through the door.
“Okay. When you are, I'd like to apologize.” Not the first time we'd had this exchange.
“Okay.”
“I'll leave you alone, then.”
I cried myself out in maybe half an hour, then lay listlessly in bed, trying not to think about the things he'd said, and failing. Another tap came on the door. He could break it down if he weren't careful, and we both knew it.
“Sun's down. I just, I wanted to let you know I'm going out. I'll try not to wake you when I come back.”
If I didn't answer, he might think I was asleep already, but I doubt he'd believe it. Too early. And he'd worry. I was still angry, but I didn't take any pleasure in being cruel to him. “Okay. Stay safe.”
“You, too.”
When the front door shut, I started to cry again, even though I didn't really understand why.

Anime suggestions?
Asking a 42 year old lifelong anime dork for anime suggestions!?
Tumblr media
Sorry that it’s taken me a little bit to address this.  In the absence of specifics I decided to provide a recommendation of my old favorites as opposed to new releases.  Of course then I realized I could write entire essays on each of my old favorites as a recommendation and started thinking about how to make a post like that.  Then I decided to provide short recommendations for most of the old favorites and save the hard-sell for a single great freaking show.  This in turn led me to end up re-watching large parts of said show because it’s just that freaking great.   Also, if anyone reading this wants lengthy essays on why I love a certain series, ask away and I’ll write one up if I’m feeling productive one day!
Anyway!
If you’re looking for recently-aired stuff, you can go through my GIF tag to see what I’ve been watching for the past few seasons.  Chances are if I’m making GIFs of something I also recommend watching it.   The only recent show that I’d mention specifically as deserving more attention than it received is Made In Abyss.  It’s a great little show.  It’s also really dark, despite the cutesy character designs, so don’t be fooled.  Also, if body horror is a trigger, stay the fuck away.  The Abyss does bad bad things to people.   Anyway, on to the old stuff ;)
Macross SeriesMacross is my all-time favorite ongoing setting.  It’s one of the great pillars of the Real Robot genre.  It’s stands apart from its peers by focusing more on the human side of conflicts, having an actual nuanced take on the role of the military, and just being very hopeful in general.    There are several separate series that I recommend, thus I am grouping them together.
The Super-Dimension Fortress Macross (1982):  The original.  A true classic of anime.  The animation is terribly dated at this point, but the story still holds up.  Every time I remember that I first watched this within a year or two of it airing, I feel really old.
Do You Remember Love? (1984):  A stunningly-animated movie version of the TV series.  The story is slightly different, but close enough if you don’t want to put in the time to watch the TV series but want a better frame of reference on the sequels.  It’s also one of the most technically impressive hand-animated movies put to film, so it’s worth a look.
Macross Plus (1994):  Four episode OVA series set 30 years after the original.  The focus is on the reunion of three former friends rather than the overarching events of the setting, so it can easily be watched without knowing anything about Macross.  It’s also widely regarded as one of the best OVA series ever made.  It launched the career of Yoko Kanno, among others.
Macross Frontier (2007):  Takes place 47 years after the original on board one of Earth’s many outbound colony fleets.  Like Macross Plus, the cast is original to the series, and the first 8 or so episodes begin with summaries of the history of the Macross setting, so it can be watched without watching the others…though you’ll miss a lot of references and a bit of the story nuance, but not enough to be unenjoyable.
Moving on from Macross!
Azumanga Daioh (2002):  The original slice-of-life show.   Cute girls doing cute things.  You will cry when they graduate.  Watch it.
Nadia of the Mysterious Seas (1990):  High adventure in the 1800s!  Very very loosely based on 2000 Leagues Under The Sea.  This is the series that put Gainax on the map.  It also has one of my favorite openings ever.
Aim For the Top!  Gunbuster! (1988):  While we’re talking about the glories of 80s-90s Gainax, let’s drop in on Gunbuster.  A surprisingly-deep take on the Super Robot genre, featuring the most hot-blooded female pilots you’ll find anywhere, which is a huge selling point.   If you ever wonder why Evangelion took off so quickly, it’s because it was sold to us as a TV series “by the people who did Gunbuster!”
Marmalade Boy (1994):  For years this was my ‘warm blanket and dark chocolate’ anime.  Whenever I was feeling down for reasons hormonal or otherwise I’d just start watching randomly from one of the 76 episodes.  It’s just an animated soap opera.  The main character, Miki, is stunned when her parents come back from a vacation and announce that they’re swapping partners with a couple they met in Hawaii.  They all move into the same house together, and Miki meets the other couple’s son Yuu.  Hijinks ensue.  Nearly every episode ends on a cliffhanger or stunning revelation.  It oozes melodrama from every frame of animation.
EDIT:  I just walked out into the living room and told the wife what I was doing and mentioned that I recommended Marmalade Boy.  Her response:  “RUN MIKI!  RUN FROM YOUR PROBLEMS!” and now I can’t stop laughing, because that’s exactly Miki’s response to everything bad that happens to her.
(I appear to be drifting closer to writing essays for them all, I’ll just add a couple more and move on)
Yamato 2199 (2012):  A bit of a cheat, as this is fairly recent, but it’s a direct remake of the original 1970′s series that I watched as a kid…and it’s frankly better than the original.
Please Save My Earth (1993):  Six-episode OVA series that covers the first half of the manga series by the same name.  A girl named Alice begins having dreams of living in a hidden base on the moon.  She encounters several other people who are dreaming the same thing.  I used to hate one of the characters for what he did.  Then I understood but still couldn’t forgive it.  Finally, now, I think I can forgive him.  It’s a series that makes you feel very strongly, but to explain is to spoil.  One of Yoko Kanno’s first series as a composer.
His and Her Circumstances (1998):   A romance buds between two people who hide their true selves behind a mask of normalcy.  Will they still like each other once those masks are stripped away?  A compelling romantic comedy from Gainax, and also one of the codifiers of the Gainax Ending, so the show kinda goes to shit in the second half, with three recap episodes and the animation devolving into stick figures, but the main plot is resolved long before then and despite all of this it remains a truly incredible series.
Okay, so, now we come to it.  The hard sell.
If there is anything at all in this post that you watch, you absolutely MUST WATCH
GIANT ROBO:  THE ANIMATIONThe Day The Earth Stood Still (1992)
I cannot possibly summarize the plot better than its own intro, so watch this:
youtube
The entire show is like that!  Breathless exposition!  Dashing heroics!  Fearful villainy!  And the entire thing done in a retro-60′s design aesthetic as an homage to the original creator of all the characters within, Mitsuteru Yokoyama.  Top it off with a literally operatic soundtrack and you have the recipe for…well…maybe that’s hard to say?  Why am I recommending a series about a kid who controls a giant robotic pharaoh?
The show looks absolutely ludicrous, and in many ways it is.  The characters are over the top in a very old-school sort of way.  You’ve got your obvious good guys, literally called the EXPERTS OF JUSTICE.  You’ve got your obvious bad guys who constantly pledge themselves to the service of a guy named BIG FIRE.  The heroes protect the new utopia that the world has become with the invention of a perfect power source.  The bad guys seek to destroy that utopia and crush humanity beneath their heel.  It’s all so cut-and-dry.  Even the characterization of some of the villains as “noble monsters” and some of the heroes as “ends justifies the means” loose cannons doesn’t really give it much depth.
At first.
The show very quickly disabuses you of that notion as it delves into what it actually took to carve out a utopian existence from a humanity that is so frequently opposed to any such thing.  It examines the motivations of the villains and finds them valid.  It examines the motivations of the heroes and finds them wanting.  It provides two questions that drive the emotional arc of the story and demands that the characters, and you the viewer, answer them.
Can happiness be achieved without sacrifice?
Can a new era be reached without misfortune?
As the sins of the past rise up to destroy the hope of the future, somehow the giant robot pharaoh stops seeming so ridiculous.  The fact that everything looks like 1960′s guy-in-monster-suit action cinema only serves to contrast the actual depth of the characters and the series as a whole.  To say more is to spoil, so I’ll not go into detailed analysis.  Suffice it to say:  The show looks silly, yet is really quite serious.
It also has one of the best finales of all time.  I watched this series as it was released, and there was a three year wait between episode six and episode seven, and I can honestly say it was worth every second.  Re-watching it just a few hours ago, my cheeks were wet with tears and stretched in a big grin at the same time.  It’s probably the most satisfying end to a series I’ve seen.
So, there you have it.  A whole bunch of old anime to watch.  (WATCH GIANT ROBO)
If anyone reading this actually watches something based on my recommendation and enjoys it, please let me know.  It’s always great to hear that a recommendation was well-received.

What I’m Writing Meme
(Nobody tagged me, but I keep seeing people on my dash do it and I wanna play too ;.;)
Do Dis: List all the things you’re currently working on in as much or little detail as you’d like, then tag some friends to see what they’re working on. This can be writing, art, vids, gifsets, whatever.
On the front burner I have the following:
a gift fic for my sister’s graduation (Viktor Krum/Hermione Granger, domestic as fuck, nonstop fluff with a little light angst for flavor, Ron is still a lovely human being)
a gift fic for @luminis-infinite (Theseus Scamander/Original Percival Graves, was going to be short but turned into A FUCKING MONSTER because there is just about no content for this pairing and I’m going to fix that, bounces between present day in New York City and the past in the trenches of World War I, will be an M rating)
The Accidental Epic chapters 35, 36, and 38 (I fucked up okay, I may have missed a couple things and I had to go back and patch it in)
THEN there’s all the shit that’s kiiiiiiinda back-burner:
Fantastic Tricos and Where to Find Them (someone dropped a plot bunny in my lap and I rolled with it...premise is thus: Percival Graves wakes up in a cell, gets out of said cell, discovers that he’s being held in the same prison as a GIANT CAT-DOG-EAGLE THING NAMED TRICO, and buddies up with it to escape)
Crimson Drift (a creepy fucking crossover between Crimson Peak and Pacific Rim, where Edith Cushing and Thomas Sharpe are Jaeger co-pilots, and there’s someone else in the Drift with them)
Ways to Say I Love You (snapshots of life after the end of TAE)
plus three more short fics that are doing some hardcore worldbuilding post-TAE and whose plots are NOT GOING TO BE REVEALED YET BECAUSE THEY’RE SPOILERY AS SHIT
AND I DO HAVE ~*~ORIGINAL CONTENT~*~ I KNOW YOU’RE ALL SHOCKED. I’m working on a worldbuilding-heavy fantasy story at the moment, which will incorporate some aspects of cosmic horror and road trip romance when all is said and done (because when do I NOT write about that shit it’s my JAM).
That’s all my active stuff. There’s a few other things on my periphery (Mad Max: IKEA Road is still technically in progress, a Supernatural fic I’ve called The Hunting of the Rake is on kinda perma-hold until October, Black Magic Women WILL update eventually) but TAE has eaten most of my life and attention at the moment. Also I’ve got to get done with the two gift fics. :3
Tagging: @luminis-infinite, @chryselephantinechaos, @le-temps-viendra36, @ornithoscelida, @eldritch-archivist, and literally anybody else who wants to do it, I know I follow a LOT of content creators. Feel free to share  ALL the cool things you’re working on!!!

Fair Play Chapter 01
Welcome! This is one of my ReaderxGaster!Sans fanfic. It’s a romance, BUT it’s a trigger fanfic. Like, literally, here are some tags of what you may expect of it:
Racism, Discrimination, Emotional/Psychological Abuse, Verbal Abuse, Bigotry & Prejudice, Explicit Language, Racist Language, Attempted Rape/Non-Con, etc.
I’m not going to lie: I myself ended up triggered by a few scenes while writing it, but the point of the fanfic is fixing this and fighting against this stuff. Anyway, If you still want to read, here’s the material:
Chapter 1: High society?
It's funny how hierarchy works. At the bottom of the pyramid are the poor, the ones who exist only to clean your house, and sometimes make the streets ugly, and at the top are you and your people: the owners of the world. People who always appear on tabloids and gossip blogs, the ones everyone wants to be like.
The billionaires.
You're the sole daughter of the owner of a famous corporation who made its name by investing hard in the automotive area. You have your own apartment in one of the fanciest building in the best neighborhood. Fast service, no burglars, and specially: no scum. All this garbage can stay far away from you, preferably around the other side of the city. But of course you know you still need to have a few of them around, to be your maids, your waiters, your servants... Just like this store attendant who’s been looking at you for a while, smiling.
"This dress looks absolutely stunning on your body, miss ______!"
"Of course it does!" The owner of the store is there too, of course. You're too important for her to not go there kiss your feet. "Everything we have is practically made for miss _______'s body, she's like a model!"
You just keep smiling to yourself while looking in the mirror. You really look stunning, like always. Your mother raised you to have the perfect body, combined with a gorgeous face and the hair that every lower class peasant girl wants to have, but can't.
The flattery of the store's owner is getting old already, she always say those things, but it's not like it's a lie anyway, so whatever. She keeps looking at you, expectantly. You know she wants to know if you're going to buy or not. It's really important to her to have you buying in her store, and you know this brings people who want to be like you right to the front door, so of course it's a big deal.
It’s already decided that you'll buy it, but of course you pretend to be still thinking about it, just to torture her. Let her look at your body a bit more, both of them, actually. Let them envy everything you are and that they'll never be. People who say that love is the best feeling in the world clearly never had all the women around envying them. Now, that's the best feeling.
You wish you could prolong that moment, but you really have to go. You have to meet your friends. Today you’ll finally go to The Whisper again; one of the fanciest nightclubs around, where there’s no risk of bumping into any plebs.
You don’t even turn around, just look at the two women in the mirror and nod. The owner prompts the attendant to go prepare your stuff, while you enter the fitting room to change back to your clothes. You’ll certainly use this one tonight and make all those bitch friends of yours envious. well, they already are, anyway. Friendship is really something...nice.
You don’t even need to go to the cashier to pay, nor get the dress now, they’ll just deliver it to your home later and charge directly from your bank account. Easy, simple, good for your nails and perfect.
Everything is how you like, nothing could be better in this royal life of yours.
When you walk to the door, with both the owner and the attendant already there, ready to say the customary stuff as you leave, you have a sight of something weird at the other side of the street: a human sized yellow lizard walking around, looking at stores.
The corner of your mouth immediately contorts into an expression of scorn. Without even noticing, you whisper with hate, while observing.
“Monsters…”
These non-human creatures showed up from the underground around a year before. Everything was perfect, everyone knew their places, and one day they just appeared and started demanding rights, a place in your society, houses and stuff. This ended up causing a turmoil in the bottom of the pyramid, making people from slums and these undignified places believe they can actually have something too. Poor people, allied with monsters, having their rallies in front of your buildings and offices, asking for their taxes to be readjusted, demanding that you share your space with them, etc.
How disgusting.
“Ah, there have been monsters around this area lately, miss.” The young attendant informs you, smiling sincerely, not really catching your mood. “It’s a nice change of view!”
You turn your face to her, glaring into her eyes, the obvious expression of disgust on your face making her shiver, realizing her mistake immediately.
“A nice change of view, you say? Why? Are you unsatisfied with the normal view? Does the streets’ normal appearance bother you? Maybe you should just go back to the place where you came from, I’m sure you enjoy that way more.”
You walk back to your car, not really paying attention to whatever apology words she tries to use when you finish spitting words at her. The first thing you think is that maybe it’s a good idea to try to run over the monster with your car, but that would ruin the pretty painting, and probably also your night since they would want to take you to the police station. Not that it would be a problem, of course you’d walk away free in less than an hour with all your powerful lawyers, but it’s better save that for another day. Today, you just want to have fun.
After getting home, you just walk straight to the bathroom, where one of the maids already prepared the bathtub with your customary oils and essences. This always make you feel better, and it was all you needed to clean that monster from your mind.
When you leave the bathroom, your new dress is already on your bed, ready to be used. You smile; such efficiency! You take your time fixing your hair and putting on make up, and refusing to leave before looking fabulous. When you finish, you take a few pictures and post them on your instagram, for all your fans to see. You can see that your friend, Lauren, also posted hers. Looks nice, but not as much as yours, of course.
You send her a message saying you’re ready and going, and she says she’s also leaving, and will meet you at the door of the club. You call one of your chauffeurs to drive you there so you can drink like crazy without worrying about driving back.
There’s a giant line in front of the door, full of common, ugly people that would die to have the right to enter and get close to you. You spot Lauren as soon as you get there.
“_____! Hiiiii!” She waves at you, trying to look delicate and excited at the same time, that actually is something you do, but naturally. It’s funny how much this bitch wants to look like you, but that’s understandable, right? Who wouldn’t?
“Laureeen!” You wave back, and walk to her. The two of you give fake kisses in the air, so you don’t need to touch and ruin your perfect make up, and walk together to the door, ignoring the line. Of course the security interrupt the line and stop everything to let you two in. Everyone knows who you are. You hear girls in the line making fangirl squeals, and someone says “____, I follow your instagram!!!” It’s great to be you.
The two of you enter the club and go straight to the VIP tables on the second floor. Of course there are VIPs even amongst the riches, how else would you tell apart people who only owned one or two boats from the ones who actually have a real castle in their names, like you? What would your fans think if you ended up being seen on the same floor as someone who never attended a party with the president’s daughters, or dressed better than them? Outrageous!
You sit at your table, that actually has your name and was customized with your favorite color: gold, and your trustworth waitress are already there, ready to serve you. You requested strictly that the girls attending you wear skirts, you hate woman who use pants, that is men stuff, and that’s not the kind of person you want around you, let alone touching your food.
You and Lauren chose what you’ll both have, and the waitress leaves to get it. Up there you can see everything, from the bar to the dance floor, and inspect everyone. Lauren, however, always likes to go down there and have her fun. ‘That’s why she’ll never be as dignified as me,’ you think. You don’t really go there to dance, mostly to sit around and enjoy looking at pretty, rich people. Feels like you’re a princess.
She asks you if you’re going too, and of course you’re not, so she just shrugs and leaves you alone. When inspecting people down there becomes boring, you lean on the couch and open your phone to check social media. More than 2k likes on your picture, of course, and you smirk, since Lauren only got around 1600. You finish looking at it and goes back to inspect down stairs, when you spot something odd: someone wearing a skeleton shirt? Is that what you’re seeing? You can see ribs and bones...is this person wearing a mask too? What?
The lights may be confusing you a bit, so you actually get up to look at the person, still not really understanding what you’re seeing. You motion to your waitress to get close and points to the person.
“Say, what’s with that person there? You’re allowing people in costumes here now?”
“No, miss, that’s a skeleton monster.”
You feel a discomfort inside. You want to puke just by hearing that. The waitress keeps going.
“Mr. G is a customary client of ours, he started showing up a while after the last time you came here last time, miss.”
You want to scream. To call the owner, whom of course you have the personal number in your contacts, and tell him to send this monster away right now.
Instead, might be funny to play a bit with him, since he’s already there, ready to take your blows, you just need to go and do the work.
You found a new toy.

Bucket List to Love by C. P. Santi
Leave it to C. P. Santi to paint Japan with words this beautifully! :)
I started reading this Monday night and well, I finished it the following night. It’s unputdownable! I do understand some qualms about the pacing of the first few chapters, but I feel like the sluggish parts were necessary to set Aya’s background (her tight-knit family, her passion for Architecture, Japan, and well, Adrian). I wish the bucket list was incorporated more towards the end, too, (I don’t remember her specifically crossing out #8, but maybe I’ll see it better when I reread).  I also had problems with all the names. Hah. But that’s just me.
The first chapter is super awesome, though, and it gives a certain perspective on what that relationship was, especially when set against Aya and Ryo’s romance later on. I also love that Aya is the goody-goody child and that her sisters are fun and ‘wild’, and that they really care about each other.
The strong sense of place is the best part for me in this book (aside from the romance, of course). I’ve never been to Japan even though I’ve always wanted to go and somehow, in C. P. Santi’s vivid narrative, it’s like I went there for an overnight trip. Haha. The conscious inclusion of Filipino and Japanese words in the dialogue made it even more authentic.
To keep myself from spoiling the book, here’s a Bucket Bulleted List of things to Love about it:
The constant and endearing “Daijoubu?”
“Hell yeah”
Giant parfait and ice-cream toast. Yum!
The whole system of welcoming new exchange students.
Adrian. (This is 50/50 because there’s a part here where he says something asshole-y and I hate him. But there’s a another part where he’s okay towards the end so IDK.)
Hazel
Annacris and Ramon Contreras. And their meetcute! *heart eyes*
Karaoke save
The planned grand gesture and the actual grand gesture
Cookie Monster and bikes and pizza and the roof!
I love that the romance isn’t over the top but is no less potent (signature C.P. Santi) and that the conflict is clearly defined, as well as the resolution. Aya was subjected to an abrupt change in her life, and a massive change at that, but she knew who she was, what she wanted (not always clear, but that’s where her awesome sisters come in) and that she could weather whatever curveball life throws at her. Still, as strong as she was, she was human, and humans fear and break and cry. The comical, rom-com vibe of the story was light, but the depth of Aya’s character was kept intact and I love that Ryo’s character complemented hers in a way that wasn’t intrusive or forced.
4.5 of 5 Stars. I love this so much! I want to express it in more articulate words, but nope, I can’t. i just LOVE IT! <3
Blurb:
Aya Contreras is thrilled to be studying in the land of sakura and sushi. Tokyo is a fascinating city to live in—vending machines, cosplayers, karaoke boxes, and bright, colorful conbinis on every corner. And the architectural design program she’s in is everything she dreamed it to be. The only problem? Her tutor doesn't seem to like her. Well, she doesn't like him very much either. Sure, Ryohei Mori is talented, and there's no denying he's hot. But he's also a surly, bossy know-it-all who eats too many cookies. Another annoying thing about him is he's nosy. And when he stumbles upon the crazy bucket list Aya's sisters forced on her, he teases her mercilessly about it. But when their professor pairs them up for a design competition, things get . . . interesting. Fueled by beer and a whole lot of cookies, can Aya and Ryo cross out some items on her bucket list without killing each other? Or will they realize there's much more to each other than they'd originally thought?

He tried a lot over a long stretch of time to educate himself on being more open minded and polite to others instead of taking them granted and belittling them. He’s secretly very sensitive about his friends, despite seeming upset with them and arguing with them. He always goes back and talks things over and admits to when he messes up now instead of blaming it on the other person. Why You Love Them: They’re a dumb vampire man and I originally made him as a horrible filler character but now he’s just fun to poke fun at with my other characters. In the set of OCs he’s in, he’s also the oldest and knows the most history and science wise, so he’s just a big angsty nerd. He’s just also a posh vampire.
