Pairing: Simon “Ghost ” Riley x f!Reader ( OC aka Mini MacTavish )

Summary : This story sets after " Up for a challenge". Life turns upside down for the better, and the worse, and rock bottom.

Continuation/parallel universe of @saltofmercury ’s ““The Favorite MacTavish” , where the reader/OC is Soap’s little sister. PLEASE GO READ HER STORY first to make sense of this story. Also go read her König stories too, it’s brilliant.

Warning: R18/Explicit theme (mention of sex) , swearing. Slight violence. Unplanned pregnancy.

Anything about UK/SAS/military information I had to google and make up a bit, so it isn't entirely accurate.

English isn’t my first language so expect a lot of mistakes with tenses. Not beta'ed. If you don’t like it, move on. you are responsible for your own internet consumption.

After three hours of train ride from London to Credenhill usually easy ride for you during normal time, but with your physical condition and mental state, it seems like forever and you are ready to collapse. You know you have you push on. You were desperate to get in touch with the boys. With Simon.

Walking slowly towards the SAS headquarter, you were greeted by the two soldiers manning the gate.

Fishing out your I.D and presenting it to the guards and announcing your name, one of the guard look at you with wide eye, "OH! you are Sergeant Johnny MacTavish's sister? Mini? the one nearly outdrank L.T Simon Riley?"

" Oh gosh.. is this what my reputation is like in SAS... "

The Guard chuckled, " It's not necessary bad, you are actually a legend amongst the soldiers for making L.T losing his composure. Anyway, what can we do for you?"

"I tried to contact Captain Price's team for last few months,I know they are off on a mission and had to go dark for a while,but I have really urgent business I need to talk to them."

" You are in luck. the team actually just got back from South America early this morning." Passing you a visitor's ID for you to display around your chest, he waved you through the gate, " Come on through, I will take you to the meeting room."

Following the guard to a private waiting room, he indicate you to sit down on the couch, " I will go grab the boys for you. Wouldn't be too long." Giving you a salute, he left the room.

You sigh in relief, but at same time anxiety is starting to hit, you don't know how well Simon is going to receive the news you are about to break to him. You tried every avenue to contact the boys the last few months, coming up to the barrack was the last resort, and now you just have to face the music...

"MINI! What are you doing here??The guard said you had urgent news to bring to us, did something happen to Ma and Pa?" Soap slam the door open with extreme worry on his face, but once he had a good look at you, his eyes was wide with disbelief.

OH SHIT.

You totally didn't expect Johnny to come through, wait, what do you expect? You told the guard you were Johnny's sister and you were desperate to talk to the boys, of course they are going to assume something happened to your family and you have to see your brother. How stupid can you be? no wonder Johnny nag you about how you act before you think.

"Johnny... I'll explain to you later.. just let me talk to Simon first.."

" FUCK I KNEW IT'S HIM.... I FUCKEN KNEW" He quickly turned and storm out of the room and down the corridor, marching towards Price's office where everyone is meeting for mission debrief. " I am gonna fucken KILL HIM, I SWEAR!"

"Johnny WAIT!" you waddle after him as fast as you could in your state, but you just couldn't catch up. You saw him going around the corner and storm in a room, and next thing you hear was him yelling , follow by a loud bam.

Simon, Gaz, Price and few of other team members were sitting around quietly talking amongst themselves, when Soap flung the door open, march straight up to Ghost and threw him against the wall.

"Easy Soap! What the hell you doing? Where is Mini?" Gaz and Price rush towards Soap trying to pull him back from punching Ghost.

" I TOLD YOU NOT TO FUCK AROUND WITH MY SISTER, AND WHAT DID YOU DO? YOU FUCKER WHAT HAVE YOU GOT TO SAY??!!"

Ghost deflect Soap's punch with ease, looking at him with total confusing, not understanding what is going on,

"JOHN CAMPBELL MACTAVISH, let, him, GO. I don't need you to go around all braveheart like you are about to defend my honour. It's not his fault." You growled at your brother, everyone's eye all landed on you as you finally caught up.

Ghost look at you, and down at your belly. a very pregnant belly. Time just stopped.

You walked into the room, closing the door, Gaz hurryingly pulled a chair and make you sit down as you were trying to catch your breath. Burying your face in your hand for few second, you look up at Price with pleading eye, " Everyone out, including you Soap." as Ghost push himself off the wall Price stopped him and shovel him back towards you "You two need to talk."

Now just two of you in the room. You can still vaguely hear Soap yelling and Price's low voice telling him to calm down.

" I am sorry to sprung this upon you Simon.. I.. I tried to contact you guys few months ago earlier on the mission.. but ... I had no choice but to come here, I am due soon and I want to let you know..." You look up at him, into his eyes, trying to gauge his reaction.

All you see is a very cold, emotionless brown eye staring at you, through his ghost mask.

"And?"

You shuddered.

"I .. I thought you want to know, you have the right to know.. I am not asking much..."

" I don't care. Do whatever you want."

Anger arises, trying to hold back tears and not letting the hormone get the best of you, " Simon Riley, you are the FATHER of the babies, I am doing my duty to inform you, giving you a chance to opt in to be around our children, you don't need to be such an ass about it! I know it was my fault, I told you I was on the pill and you could just.. just.... " Your face burns thinking back to that night....

"Where... Where do you want me to..."

" Inside Simon.. I am on the pill.. I want you to fill me...Please.."

What you totally forgot was you were on antibiotics for infection which you had from a cut you got from work. So much for being a health professional... You mentally slap yourself thinking back.

Ghost remain silent. Body rigid. Fist clenched.

You don't know what else to say to him anymore, letting out a sob, you quickly walked out of the office, away from him.

"Mini, talk to me, did he hurt you.. " Soap wrap his arm around you and pulling you into embrace.

" No.. yes.. no... " You feel him turning and ready to walk back into the office, you pulled him back. "Johnny... Just.. just take me home."

"... Does Ma and Pa know about this."

" I haven't been home for quite a while.. the only person knew about this is Emma and I have informed work as well." Emma, your flatmate and work colleague working at same hospital as you in London had been supportive and wonderful, she's been helping you with looking for new flat with more room for you two to move in, to get ready for the birth of the babies.

"Please Johnny, I will tell Ma and Pa soon. Just let me sort this out myself. "

He open his mouth wanting to say more. You shook your head to shush him. Turning around to face Price and Gaz, " I am so sorry to make such a scene... Just don't blame Simon for this."

Both men nodding their head, gave you a quick hug and let you and Johnny on the way.

After collecting few stuff from his room from the dorm, he lead you to his jeep and drive you both back to London mostly in silence.

Emma was on the couch when both of you arrived at your London flat late at night. Emma raised her eyebrow as she saw Soap walking in.

"Oh, Hi Johnny."

Johnny gave her a half smile, and turning to you " Hey. I hope you don't mind me hogging the shower for a bit."

You wave at him to tell him to go ahead, he walked towards your room to put his bag down.

" Did you tell Simon." She ask as she lead you to sit down on the couch with glass of water.

" I did... and... I don't know, what was I expecting? Him to jump up and down with joy with the news? Oh Gawd, I feel so stupid.. "

Pulling you in for a hug, Emma chided ' Oh stop it, you are not stupid. You did what you can. Forget the asshole, we will be here to help you. Now, what is your brother doing here?"

" He said he's gonna stay with me for few days and make sure I am alright.. with drama aside, I think he is secretly excited to be an uncle." Soap's eyes lit up when you grabbed his hand to feel the baby kicking while driving. You are sure he is going to be a great uncle that will spoil the kids rotten.

" I am sure he is." Emma smiled.

" You don't mind if he stays on the couch for few days right?"

" Oh NONONO, Not at all, not a bother at all. " Is that a blush on Emma's face you just saw?

Two of you chatted for a little bit more before Johnny emerges from the shower and you three said your goodnight after setting him up on the sofa couch in the living room.

Taking a quick shower , winding down in bed, you were half hoping you get a text from Simon. Nothing. Gaz texted through though just to quickly check on how you are going. You replied with a smile emoji and threw your phone on charge.

Reality is starting to set in. You are going to have to raise the children without their father. Their emotionless, asshole father.

To who you fell in love. Very much.

And now he broke your heart.

A/N : Ghost is just being a emotionless asshole here. This poor boy got issue. he doesn't think he deserves happiness, so he pushes everything away. including Mini. hurting her immensely in the process.

do they forget that yasmin khan is a police officer?

during my 13 era re-watch I took note of all the moments that I think are police training related or just general police officer mentions, it's a mixed bag. this is all of them in one post along with a mini conclusion/tldr at the end check the twitter thread version of this post for screenshots with every point and alt text too

11.01, the woman who fell to earth

when we first see yaz she’s on the job, sorting out a parking dispute between two women

she tells her superior that she wants more of a challenge and he sends her to ryan

we then see her on the train where she meets the doctor. she starts out trying to take charge but realistically she’s out of her depth and the doctor manages to convince her to not call it in

she then goes down to the station to ask if there’s been any mention of the things she’s seen that evening. we see her get frustrated

later in the episode she suggests her and ryan do some investigating

11.03, rosa

yaz immediately steps in when ryan is assaulted

while talking with ryan she mentions her job and the things she’s experienced

along with the rest of the fam, yaz then helps with investigating what’s going on with rosa

1.04, arachnids in the uk

yaz’s dad uses the fact yaz is a police officer to sort out all the stuff he’s been noticing and collecting. she said she has mentioned it to them and they’re looking into it. (it’s not said but I think it’s possible that they don’t really care and aren’t actually doing much/any looking into it, maybe bc yaz is newer on the job and doesn’t get listened to as much/taken as seriously)

later in the episode yaz goes to pick up her mum and goes into police mode to try and calm down the situation when robertson pulls out a gun

11.05, the tsuranga conundrum

thirteen gives yaz the responsibility of keeping an eye on the pting, which involves using a weapon to stun it. it makes sense for yaz to get this responsibility over ryan/graham bc she has some kind of weapons training

11.07, kerblam!

yaz searches for dan, asks about where he is and generally seems to find it important that she does what she can for him/his daughter. (i do believe that most companions would probs feel similarly about this but with yaz i think it is related to her being a police officer bc she would have training in ways to help loved ones of a deceased person and we also see yaz supporting children multiple other times during this season so I think it’s safe to say it’s important to her (and relates to why she got the job as a police officer in the first place). while I think most companions would want to find dan, I’m not sure how many would want to go and see his daughter or be as passionate)

we also see her grab and detain charlie effectively, something I’m sure she would have been taught during training

11.08, the witchfinders

after willa’s granny gets pulled out of the water, yaz is the one to check her pulse to see if she’s still alive

yaz then takes it upon herself to go and find willa. she knows how to approach and talk to her and she uses her own experiences as a way to try and relate/understand how willa is feeling

in this episode we again see yaz wanting to help a child, and it has strong parallels to what we see later in can you hear me, with yaz being the police officer and willa being yaz

11.09, it takes you away

we see yaz helping another child, she knows how to talk to her and keep her calm and tells ryan that it’s because she’s had training

a bit later in the episode she goes into police mode when ribbons pulls out a knife on graham

resolution

yaz takes lin and mitch’s information, escorts of them out of the site and is seen being the one trying to get in contact with lin later in the episode

12.01 spyfall pt1

at the beginning of s12 we see yaz telling her boss why she won’t be around to work. he’s not too happy about it. it’s clear she’s taken a lot of time away from work recently in favour of being with the doctor

this is small but the way she says this has always had kinda authoritative vibes to me? idk how to explain it

later in the episode yaz goes undercover with ryan. she is clearly more confident than he is. she tries to reassures him, covers for him when he’s acting weird and is good at asking barton questions

when she gets trapped in the kasaavin dimension she reassures herself

12.04, nikola tesla’s night of terror

she confronts the guy when he comes into wherever tf they were in this scene idr

12.05 fugitive of the judoon

the doctor uses yaz being a police officer as a way to try and get the judoon to believe what she’s saying

kinda a small thing but yaz is the one who finds something actually useful when search lee and ruth’s flat, potentially meaning she has some kind of training/knows more about searching for evidence

yaz uses the fact that as a police officer she can speak more on the judoon’s level and uses it as a way to stall them

12.06, praxeus

yaz mentions being ‘on sabbatical’. I don’t know if this is supposed to be taken as she actually is on sabbatical (aka paid leave) or if it’s just for ease in the convo (as in jake and co don’t need her life story so just not correcting it is easier) (back in spyfall her excuse for not being at work was another ‘secondment’ (which means she’s been assigned work at a different place) so either that isn’t the excuse she’s using anymore and she is just straight up taking leave or, like I said, she’s just going with the sabbatical convo for ease bc the details don’t really matter, what matters is she’s pointing out that bc she isn’t on official police work, she doesn’t go around saying she’s police, unlike jake who clearly does)

I think what happens here is a mix of yaz being a more seasoned companion, us seeing yaz get more reckless (clara vibes) but also potentially police vibes in in that she’s noticing what’s important and wants to investigate it

12.07, can you hear me?

in this episode we find out what made yaz want to become a police officer in the first place. a police officer helped her when she was in a bad place, she goes on to want to do the same for others

12.09/10, ascension of the cybermen/the timeless children

yaz gives some small pep talks and knows how to reassure people. we’ve seen her do this a bit before with other characters. this far into yaz’s time on the tardis, some of these moments do feel more doctor-y than police training-y but it still feels work mentioning

13.01, the halloween apocalypse

when yaz and the doctor first get to dan’s house, yaz calls to ask if anyone is home and then looks around to get an idea of who lives there

13.02, war of the sontarans

when yaz meets the tunnel guy she asks him what’s going on and she tries to talk to him in a way that keeps him calm because she can tell he seems unstable/confused

when meeting vinder, yaz initially introduces herself normally but when vinder introduces himself using his titles she does the same as a way to show she’s on his level (some ppl take this scene to be contradictory to other moments where I guess it’s implied she quit her job but I don’t think it matters. the reason she says this is bc of how vinder introduced himself, it’s got nothing to do with whether she is actually still police or not. I think it’s more interesting to parallel it with her not claiming it be police when jake mentions that he’s police. in that situation things were less scary and she wasn’t alone but here she is alone and wants to be seem as authoritative as possible to this stranger (vinder))

when swarm and azure show up yaz to keep some control/gain respect but they obviously don’t give a fuck lmao

13.03, once, upon time

a small moment but we see yaz on the job in her memories

13.05, survivors of the flux

yaz fights someone off pretty skillfully, presumably something she would’ve been trained in

the power of the doctor

the doctor tells them to give yaz a gun. she obviously trusts her with it because she knows yaz will have had training (and yaz says as much)

in conclusion

ppl like to say yaz being a police officer is basically not mentioned and i just think that’s.. not true. if you average it out, based on the moments in this thread, it works out that it’s mentioned/something directly related to police training is brought up about once an ep which imo is more than enough I don’t really know what ppl want when they say there’s not enough of it. there’s a clear story of first of all why yaz wanted to be a police officer (bc a police officer helped her), why she didn’t like it (bc she was stuck doing boring stuff when she wanted to be out helping ppl) and how travelling with the doctor gave her what she wanted more than being with the police ever did (we see her doing good and helping ppl pretty much every episode) and also in my opinion through the seasons while we do see her use her training/mention the police, over time she starts to be more doctor-like than police-like in the way she talks and handles situations which is why in s11 there’s more clear examples in almost every ep of yaz talking very police-like/using her training but then later in the show it’s less bc she’s switched to being more doctor-y

FALLEN ANGEL is the second mini album by ASTELLA, a South Korean soloist. It was released on February 23, 2024 by StarShip Entertainment. The album consists of seven tracks, one including title track NOBODY KNOWS. It is available both physically and digitally.

ASTELLA promoted the album for 4 weeks total, promoting NOBDODY KNOWS and b-side MANIAC for 2 weeks each. NOBODY KNOWS peaked at 2 on the gaon charts while MANIAC peaked at 11. although unpromoted, Kingdom Come and Lucid Dream also charted, peaking at 19 and 25 the week after the album's release. The album received global attention as well, peaking at 10 on the US Billboard 200, also charting in 20 other countries including Japan, Brazil, FinLand, Thailand, and the UK. ASTELLA won a total of 9 music show awards for this album, NOBDOY KNOWS winning 7 with MANIAC earning 3.

₊˚ෆ a lot of stellars believe that they should’ve made kingdom come be the title track, seeing that it’s gone so viral, but others understand why nobody knows was chosen for the title track.

₊˚ෆ astella blew up on tik tok! people already saying that nobody knows is soty and that it was the best release so far!

₊˚ෆ she did many challenges with julie and hanuel of kiss of life, karina of aespa, joy of red velvet, and yeji of itzy.

₊˚ෆ and all the rumors are true! the album may or may not be about yeonjun, who she has been rumored to be dating ever since 2020 west they had a minor acquaintance.

₊˚ෆ she began being close to him while being in promise, but after leaving he was one of the only people she talked to all the time, the rest being her family, the promise members, and karina.

₊˚ෆ they began officially dating in 2022 but never actually confirms it so nobody knows is like her saying it but not actually saying it.

₊˚ෆ when it peaked number two on billboard, heejin’s family called her and they celebrated with a cake, congratulating her on her success.

₊˚ෆ she literally did a live at like 1am happy, which turned into her crying because of how overwhelmed and happy she was that the song was doing well, the comments were congratulating her and telling her not to cry.

₊˚ෆ during maniac promotions, a lot of people felt like the song did not fit the album and complained that it was being promoted and not kingdom come, which was gaining more streams than maniac.

₊˚ෆ starship released two videos of the recording process of both nobody knows and maniac, which gained so much traction on twitter and tik tok with videos with over 1m+ likes and views.

₊˚ෆ even though she hadn’t planned it, heejin ended up finding out that she will be performing at coachella 2024 in california alongside other kpop artists such as lesserafim and ateez.

₊˚ෆ even though no one expected it, rewind also ended up getting popular! after many stellars posted the song in a sped up version, making people who did even stan heejin wonder what the song was, it even got non kpop fans bopping to it!

₊˚ෆ after catching onto it, heejjn ended up posting a lyric video of rewind on her channel, and after a week it charted at number 8 on top 100: south korea on apple music, youtube music charts at number 1, and gaon chart at number 5.

₊˚ෆ stellars can really say this is their favorite era of astella so far, when the music is good how can you not stan?

Storm Hawks Bird OC Challenge - November 2023

Remember remember the 5th of November, Gunpowder treason and plot

Hello Storm Hawks fandom! Spook month might be over but here in the UK we celebrate attempted regicide with fireworks. Hopefully this bird's colours are inspiring to y'all. This month we're looking at the wire-tailed manakin (Pipra filicauda)!

This bird is most commonly found in the Amazon basin and prefers habitats of subtropical or tropical swamps. It's part of a superspecies alongside two other Manakin species; the band-tailed and the crimson-hooded manakin. There's not much more information available, but the colours are a nice contrast to October's, so I hope y'all have fun with it!

The deadline this month is Wednesday the 29th of November, I look forward to seeing all the characters this month. Rules are under the cut.

Minimum requirements for drawn entries to be put in the winner’s vote are a name, occupation, the character’s home/birth Terra and at least one paragraph (or about 100 words) of written backstory.

Minimum requirements for written (i.e. written dossiers without art, or mini-fics for the character) are 500 words including backstory and appearance. Feel free to make a mini-fic out of this challenge, I’ll make sure to link it with the final collage as well.

You’re not expected to create a character from scratch for this challenge. If you’ve got an older character concept that’s been collecting dust or that you’d like to take the opportunity to revamp, feel free! The goal of this challenge is to inspire people.

Collaborations are allowed! Same rules apply, the only addition is that you and your partner(s) just need to make note of who was responsible for what part of the character.

Make sure to tag me in your entries and also DM me with a link to your entry. Tumblr is not always reliable about notifications for this sort of thing, and I don’t want to risk missing anyone’s entries, so better safe than sorry.

Adapting to Changing Travel Trends: Maximizing Travel Experience

In recent years, there have been significant shifts in the travel trends. The once exclusive practice of tourism has evolved into a popular entertainment and tourism trend with affordable travel and a rich cultural heritage. The travel business has seen a significant transformation because to new technologies like digital platforms, which give visitors access to advice and recommendations from other travelers as well as locals.

For the past 5 years, here are some of the biggest travel trends in 2019 including the Regenerative Travel which are the challenges of sustainable tourism have drawn attention, which focuses on striking a balance between financial advantages and environmental and societal benefits. Secondly, the B-Leisure Trips which means leisure and business blends together became increasingly popular. While business travelers saw the in-flight experience as a means of leisure and time off, they also often viewed the airport as a nice place to work.

Micro-vacations, sometimes referred to as mini-vacations, have grown in popularity since 2019. These quick getaways provide travelers with instant happiness and relaxation, enabling them to make wonderful memories and depart with favorable impressions. The next one is the Insta-Holidays, travel planning in 2019 was greatly helped by Instagram, particularly for Gen Z travelers. Last but not the least travel trend for the past 5 years is the Wellness Travel, which describes travel experiences that seek to enhance and maintain health in a range of areas of human being, such as the physical, mental, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual.

For the next and possible travel trends that we expected, the first one is the Home Swapping, is a more cost-effective option to booking expensive hotels or Airbnbs when travel expenses keep rising. The second one is the Eco Diving, the Reef-World Foundation, a UK marine ecology nonprofit, discovered in 2022 that 95% of divers desired to make reservations with sustainable operators but found it difficult to do so.

Sports Tourism, the Olympic and Paralympic Games serve as the main event of the 2024 sporting calendar. The fourth is the Coolcationing that the year 2023 is declared the hottest on record. Family vacations are especially well-suited to cooler weather. The last possible travel trend for the next 5 years is the Gig-Tripping that for many years, the main attractions at retreats were athletes and wellness experts. Taylor Swift is the main reason for the more than 50% increase in destination concert business, according to Janel Carnero, travel advisor at Embark Beyond.

As a tourist in tourism industry, we should expect that we can have more technological and advanced travel trends that a tourist can surely enjoy now and in the future.

All Creatures Great and Small season 4 features new challenges and big decisions for the Yorkshire vets.

The latest season of the period drama, which airs on Channel 5 in the UK in October and on PBS Masterpiece in January, is set in Spring 1940 as World War Two continues.

Caring James Herriot (Nicholas Ralph), spirited wife Helen (Rachel Shenton), grouchy head vet Siegfried Farnon (Samuel West) and trusty housekeeper Mrs Hall (Anna Madeley) are trying to keep things running smoothly at the Skeldale House practice in the absence of Siegfried’s brother Tristan (Callum Woodhouse), who is serving with the Royal Army Veterinary Corps. But they all face dilemmas about the future.

We caught up with Nicholas Ralph to discover what lies ahead in All Creatures Great and Small season four…

All Creatures Great and Small is back! What impact is the war having?

Nicholas Ralph: “We kick off during the Phoney War [before hostilities became more intense] and it’s the All Creatures that we know and love, so it’s very much focused on the community. But signing up was something James wanted to do and Tristan has now gone off to war, so James still feels that pang of guilt.”

How are James and Helen finding married life as we hear babies could be on the cards?

Nicholas Ralph: “Yes, they are broody. Helen’s more open about it and James is more guarded, although he wants to be a dad as well. It's a complex situation. But in the opening episode, he becomes a bit of a father figure to a young boy who is a toerag but has an unwell dog and James takes him under his wing, it’s charming.”

What is it like at Skeldale without Tristan?

Nicholas Ralph: “Siegfried is feeling the loss of Tris and not dealing with it well. But the bond between Siegfried and James also becomes tighter, which is nice to play. And the whole family unit blossoms more as well with us and Mrs Hall and then Richard Carmody [a student vet played by rising star James Anthony-Rose, who joins later in the series].”

Tell us about Carmody and the other new faces this time…

Nicholas Ralph: “It’s James' idea to get Carmody in because, with the loss of Tristan, they’re struggling. He thinks it will be brilliant and Carmody will be a mini-James, but he turns out to be more like Siegfried, so it blows up in James’ face! James, who plays Carmody, is a joy to work with. We also have James Bolam [the New Tricks star guests as a farmer]. I didn’t get to work with him, but Sam said it was an absolute pleasure.”

And what animals will we see?

Nicholas Ralph: “We have goats who were brilliant! The animal wranglers trained the goats with food and a buzzer, so when they came in, they did this elaborate route around Skeldale. We also have horses, and cows having calves. And we have a flatulent boxer dog that Mrs Pumphrey [the wealthy local played by Patricia Hodge] takes on. It’s the sweetest dog but it’s supposed to be boisterous so it kept jumping up and hitting me in a painful place!”

And is Mrs Pumphrey’s pampered Pekingese Tricki Woo, played by Derek, back too?!

Nicholas Ralph: “Yes, and you can do whatever you need with him, he’s like putty! He always gives you something back in a scene too, he's better than some of the actors! We also have Erin, who plays Dash [Skeldale’s springer spaniel], and she’s the cutest dog ever, although you can't do a scene with her, because as soon as you look at her, she comes over. But you can't not look at her, because she's got these massive doe eyes and she just stares at you intently!”

Hiya! I'll be happy to answer your question!

So, basically, I enrolled on a coding night class that the UK Government gave away for free (I know, shocking). I thought "Why not try it out?" so I submitted my application and I got accepted! If you are in the UK and a UK citizen, you should totally try it out! It's called "Trilogy’s Skills Bootcamp in Front-End Web Development" - it says BootCamp but it's really just classes. The instructors themselves nickname the BootCamp as being "night classes" so that is why everyone calls it night classes as well.

Part-time - 16 weeks long

4 days a week - Tuesday to Friday

3 hours long per class day - 2 hours on Friday

Over Zoom meetings

Very interactive so you get to know your classmates a lot - made 2 friends from there!

🌙 What do you learn in the classes?

HTML, CSS, Advanced CSS, Bootstrap 4 & 5, JavaScript, Web APIs and React.js - then towards the end you build 2 big projects in groups to complete the class and get the certificate.

Above is my Google Calendar that shows my class set - this is next week's classes btw. You get to choose during your application either the day classes (2pm-5pm) or the night classes (6pm-9pm) and so obviously I am at work and doing my apprenticeship during the day, I chose the night classes.

I give myself an hour before each class as a study time for the classes so I catch up on any homework from the previous day or week I haven't done and to even study ahead of time on what the next week's topic is about. Each week is different e.g. week 1 was all HTML, week 2 was CSS3, week 3 Advanced CSS3 and so on. Therefore, it's good to study ahead if you're falling behind a bit, like some of my classmates are. But I also add another 1 hour after class to go over my notes from that day's class.

On Fridays (really after Thursday's class) we are given our week's challenge (weekly mini-projects really) to complete by next week's class which is on a Tuesday. Friday's classes are really going over the challenge's requirements, going over some demos and even starting the challenge during class and we have the instructors to help us, which I really appreciate. During class, it is flexible as they do give us 15 mins breaks to go do stuff

So my night-time routine really looks like this:

5 pm: Study last week's classes' work or study ahead for this week

6 pm: In class

7 pm: In class

8 pm: In class

9 pm: Go over class notes / maybe start the challenge

10 pm: Break

10:30 pm: Work on apprenticeship work or actual work's projects

Elusive planets play “hide and seek” with CHEOPS With the help of the CHEOPS space telescope an international team of European astronomers managed to clearly identify the existence of four new exoplanets. The four mini-Neptunes are smaller and cooler, and more difficult to find than the so-called Hot Jupiter exoplanets which have been found in abundance. Two of the four resulting papers are led by researchers from the University of Bern and the University of Geneva who are also members of the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) PlanetS. CHEOPS is a joint mission by the European Space Agency (ESA) and Switzerland, under the leadership of the University of Bern in collaboration with the University of Geneva. Since its launch in December 2019, the extremely precise measurements of CHEOPS have contributed to several key discoveries in the field of exoplanets. NCCR PlanetS members Dr. Solène Ulmer-Moll of the Universities of Bern and Geneva, and Dr. Hugh Osborn of the University of Bern, exploited the unique synergy of CHEOPS and the NASA satellite TESS, in order to detect a series of elusive exoplanets. The planets, called TOI 5678 b and HIP 9618 c respectively, are the size of Neptune or slightly smaller with 4.9 and 3.4 Earth radii. The respective papers have just been published in the journals Astronomy & Astrophysics and Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. Publishing in the same journals, two other members of the international team, Amy Tuson from the University of Cambridge (UK) and Dr. Zoltán Garai from the ELTE Gothard Astrophysical Observatory (Hungary), used the same technique to identify two similar planets in other systems. The synergy of two satellites The CHEOPS satellite observes the luminosity of stars in order to capture the slight dimming that occurs when, and if, an orbiting planet happens to pass in front of its star from our point of view. By searching for these dimming events, called “transits”, scientists have been able to discover the majority of the thousands of exoplanets known to orbit stars other than our Sun. “NASA’s TESS satellite excels at detecting the transits of exoplanets, even for the most challenging small planets. However, it changes its field of view every 27 days in order to scan rapidly most of the sky, which prevents it from finding planets on longer orbital periods,” explains Hugh Osborn. Still, the TESS satellite was able to observe single transits around the stars TOI 5678 and HIP 9618. When returning to the same field of view after two years, it could again observe similar transits around the same stars. Despite these observations, it was still not possible to conclude unequivocally to the presence of planets around those stars as information was incomplete. “This is where CHEOPS comes into play: Focusing on a single-star at a time, CHEOPS is a follow-up mission which is perfect to continue observing these stars to find the missing bits of information,” complements Solène Ulmer-Moll. A lengthy game of “hide and seek” Suspecting the presence of exoplanets, the CHEOPS team designed a method to avoid spending blindly precious observing time in the hope to detect additional transits. They adopted a targeted approach based on the very few clues the transits observed by TESS provided. Based on this, Osborn developed a software which proposes and prioritizes candidate periods for each planet. “We then play a sort of ‘hide and seek’ game with the planets, using the CHEOPS satellite,” as Osborn says. “We point CHEOPS towards a target at a given time, and depending if we observe a transit or not, we can eliminate some of the possibilities and try again at another time until there is a unique solution for the orbital period.” It took five and four attempts respectively for the scientists to clearly confirm the existence of the two exoplanets and determine that TOI 5678 b has a period of 48 days, while HIP 9618 c has a period of 52.5 days. Ideal targets for the JWST The story does not end there for the scientists. With the newly found constrained periods, they could turn to ground-based observations using another technique called radial velocity, which enabled the team to determine masses of respectively 20 and 7.5 Earth masses for TOI 5678 b and HIP 9618 c. With both the size and mass of a planet, its density is known, and scientists can get an idea of what it is made off. “For mini-Neptunes however, density is not enough, and there are still a few hypotheses as for the composition of the planets: they could either be rocky planets with a lot of gas, or planets rich in water and with a very steamy atmosphere,” explains Ulmer-Moll. “Since the four newly discovered exoplanets are orbiting bright stars, it also makes them targets of prime interest for the mission of the James Webb Space Telescope JWST which might help to solve the riddle of their composition,” Ulmer-Moll continues. Most exoplanets atmospheres observed so far have been from Hot Jupiters, which are very big and hot exoplanets orbiting close to their parent star. “The four new planets which we detected have much more moderate temperatures of ‘only’ 217 to 277ºC. These temperatures enable clouds and molecules to survive, which would otherwise be destroyed by the intense heat of Hot Jupiters. And they may potentially be detected by the JWST,” as Osborn explains. Smaller in size and with a longer orbital period than Hot Jupiters, the four newly detected planets are a first step towards the observation of transiting Earth-like planets TOP IMAGE....Cheops confirmed the existence of four warm exoplanets with sizes between Earth and Neptune, orbiting their stars closer than Mercury our Sun. These so-called mini- Neptunes are unlike any planet in our Solar System and provide a 'missing link' that is not yet understood.
