- "Inventing Love" by Astha Kesri
(inspired by the idea of food as a love language; portrayed beautifully in most K dramas; intrigued by these very episodes of metaphoric depiction, my own analysis of certain soft human emotions conveyed through food…)

trying to practice restraint by not speaking about it but taeyong’s situation specifically has gotten so out of hand seeing the vilest shit being alleged between him and his sister and the swarm of death threats sent directly to him and his family after a random instagram story from half a year ago of a now confirmed censored single volume of a popular anime. extrapolating from a photo he took of some fucking shoes he was gifted saying hes read and promoted eleven volumes of uncensored whatever without fact checking anything/going off hearsay is so insane? and trying to lump all 4/5 idols in the same way without any nuance or even care for victims of these abuses is just irresponsible. i’m not here to justify or speak on the contents of the original anime itself because i haven’t read it but the way misinformation and crazy uncritical mob behavior functions on stan twitter/tumblr without any critical thinking is disgusting and also makes the content of what’s being criticized completely frivolous. it’s disgusting!

Random thoughts about Wedding Impossible after episode 8.
I find Wedding Impossible quite interesting. It still has some flaws and the writing is kinda inconsistent. It lacks something but I can't seem to pinpoint exactly what is it. I believe I'm struggling with the writing of both brothers which is kinda sad because it is the main reason why I'm watching this drama.
I believe the writers don't exactly know how to manage their relationship well because Do Han and Ji Han, both, come across as very selfish and cowardly for different reasons and not all the time. Despite this, I find myself being rather fond of both. I wish Do Han didn't have to hide and that he could be truly himself without being judged. For Ji Han, I wish he didn't have such low self-esteem and obsession about his brother.
I'm also very frustrating with two others characters:
An Jioung is not careful enough with Do Han's secret. She knows he doesn't want people to know, yet she always act on impulse. We know she values her friendship with him if she's even ready to pretend being his wife to help him. So why, would you declare your true love out in the open when everyone can see you?! I wish she was more cautious (especially after all the drama around her identity and the evil family members who always acted against Do Han or Ji Han). It will hurt both her friend and the man she loves.
The crazy ex is truly annoying. It's so sad that one of the story-line revolving around Do Han is about someone he loved who wants to out him. I can't remember what's his reasoning behind his actions? Is happiness possible when you get it from revenge? Maybe seeing a therapist would be a healthier choice than going after his ex. It's also annoying that the second gay character in the drama is a "bad guy" when we already have villains in the story.
Even if the drama isn't perfect as I wish it would be, I still enjoy watching it. I'm curious about how they will make the happy ending it will definitely have and if this ending will be happy for the three main characters.

Monthly likes/dislikes
👎🏻 Past-senger - I was excited for but this one but it ended up being unwatchable for me. Cooper and Marc are an interesting pair and I was debating hanging on for them but the production quality ended up being a dealbreaker for me. It’s one of the cheapest looking productions I’ve ever seen, it looks like it was filmed & edited by kindergarteners. The cast + acting is solid but even they couldn’t save it for me. Dropped.
👎🏻 Love Syndrome - Same goes for this one pretty much. I decided to give it a go because I was curious about Frank’s BL comeback but my god it’s terrible. It’s cheap, the plot is strange and the characters are annoying. And what is up with that wig??? I have no words. I can see how this is a spinoff of Unforgotten Night as the quality is similar but with the difference that I liked Itt and Day a lot better in UN. Instantly dropped.

Jaewon Breaking Through The Fog Of Depression [LONG POST]
So throughout the last several episodes, we’ve got Jaewon, and the reactions of the various people around him, trying to get him out of his funk one way or another. Let’s go through the list of failures, before we discuss who succeeded:
Taehyung. I’m not gonna waste any word count on that man, he doesn’t deserve it. He had no idea what Jaewon was going through much less why, so nothing he said was helpful or relevant. He was the one person actively trying to instigate Jaewon, thinking he’d banter back and not realizing how serious he considered the situation. Taehyung’s lack of empathy and ‘nunchi’ makes him unpalatable.
Tumblr media
Eunji. She’s an interesting one. Unlike Taehyung I think she understood more of why Jaewon was so affected (not because of his past but because of his present with Jihyun), but was afraid that she would lose him so she manipulated him in his vulnerable moments so that they stayed together. She kept trying to tell Jaewon that he was fine now in an attempt to convince him that he was, when in fact that probably just invalidated his feelings more than ever. Instead of encouraging his recovery it just made him feel misunderstood and alone.
Tumblr media
Jihyun. While Jaewon trusts Jihyun and knows that Jihyun knows him, he can’t believe a lot of what Jihyun says to him because he KNOWS that his opinions are biased. Jaewon may be thinking that Jihyun is saying what Jaewon wants to hear, not that he actually means it, and so Jaewon is automatically disinclined to believe him. He wants to believe him so badly but he’s convinced himself that there’s no way that Jihyun truly believes what he’s saying. Isn’t that the worst part.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His Therapist. I know she means well, she’s the one other person who knows everything about Jaewon. But her job is to try and ‘cure’ him to the best of her abilities, and sometimes in trying to do that she missed what needs to be done. It’s unclear whether she’s being able to treat the symptom or the root issue. She tells Jaewon what he needs to do, but that’s easier said than done, otherwise he would’ve done it by now. Her telling him isn’t the point, he had to come to that conclusion by himself so that he believes it, before acting on it. It didn’t help that she was getting so visibly frustrated at his story and his reactions.
Tumblr media
Now. Who succeeded? It’s the most expected and most unexpected persons around Jaewon:
Yoonwon. Yoonwon is probably Jaewon’s one true friend, someone who knows what he’s like and doesn’t judge him for it ever. He genuinely cares for her and loves her. They’ve absolutely got each other’s backs, and if there’s one thing these two do it’s never lie to each other. Seeing Yoonwon break down after Jihyun gave his ultimatum was probably the first time we saw Jaewon get out of his depressive trance and react with energy. His hubris is his desire to take care and protect those around him (often to his own detriment), and that instinct kicks in for Yoonwon. Until now, Jaewon did what he thought was best to prevent Jihyun (or anyone else) from getting hurt, but seeing her he realized that people were getting hurt despite, or even because of what he was doing. It was the first step of many towards his change in attitude and perspective. What he was doing was not only not helping but it was actively hurting someone he loved, so something had to change.
Tumblr media
Restaurant Ahjumma. She’s a legend, she’s an icon, and she is the moment. Jaewon only knows her as a close friend of Jihyun, but has nothing personally connected to her. Even with leaving out specific details, he’s able to share his worries with her, and she (quite literally) smacks some sense into him, reminding him to look at the bigger picture and remember what’s actually important. Loving the ones you love, and pursuing your own happiness is more important to living than drowning in guilt, and taking care of yourself is the first step in that direction. She used the most simple of words that everyone understands to help Jaewon clear his mind. She knows nothing about Jaewon and he finds there’s a comfort in getting support from someone who doesn’t know you and had no opinion of you beforehand. Her combined street smart wisdom and maturity remind Jaewon of a more hopeful future.
Tumblr media
What I absolutely love is how Jaewon only managed to connect to two women for entirely opposite reasons, but with a similar result. Jaewon believes Yoonwon because they know each other so well and he knows she wouldn’t lie, and he believes the ahjumma because they don’t know each other at all and as someone Jihyun trusts she has no reason to lie. While on opposite ends of the spectrum, they are both people that Jaewon doesn’t have to put up a mask around, there’s no pretention. It tells us so much about Jaewon, what he values in a person and in a relationship. Yoonwon makes him realize what he’s doing is wrong, and the Ahjumma gives him the courage to do what is right.

korean fancast of 'my fair lady/pygmalion', starring bae doona and shin hakyun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
because those two are my favourite korean actor/actress
it started with mr shin obv
then i thought abt who could be his eliza
when i tell you i'm not good with the 90s born k-actors
i thought of kim go-eun who was injoo in 작은 아씨들/little women
but she was also mr shin's ex girlfriend - i dont think that's a good idea😅 however possible the pairing may be
so i chose my favourite k-actress hehe
ms bae who looks down-to-earth yet graceful at the same time
like gosh the photshoots she slayed
i mean ms hepburn was 35(ish?) when she did mfl
and i also thought if eliza was a much older woman than in the play or the musical
the closer gap between her and henry will be an interesting take
and ms bae and mr shin are only five years apart
(we need to find a nice old gentleman to play the colonel but later in that...)
kim eui-sung maybe..?
the plot?
as an international admirer of k-culture and korean language student, i offer satoori
(watching "our blues" was the experience in jeju satoori)
"well they won't have me in one of their stores unless i can talk more gracefully."
mr shin have that saccharine, impish way of smiling that will suit the professor
busan instead of brighton
where he bought her a jade ring - that's why the picture is up there
(hope it won't break when he threw it under the sofa)
i wonder if a modern setting will work
on one hand imagine all the snacks they wrangle pronounciations over
big strawberries and grapes (the professor approves of it, on its own or in sponge cakes)
and convenience store snacks (she eats peppero and cup ramen to spite him)
americano and banana milk boxes
soju and plum teas
on the other hand, the gender perception in korea will make the professor more dislikeable?
one can imagine how the post ball scene will go down
higgins and his mouth
(the ball? a charity event between university colleagues maybe?)
and the next morning discussion at his mother's house
absolutely no reason for her to stay in that house, i want to see what arguments he will come up with
also in consideration of freddy eynsford
wi hajoon or kim woobin
i don't know, they both have those sharp looks...
wrong suggestion, we might need softer looking gentlemens

Even if it's scary, we have to try it to find out. Let's try it together, even if we are afraid.
It was such a special show, one of only ones that captured me from start to finish and never felt boring.
It was filmed and directed excellently and there were so many fine details planed and made in the production process. Both directors put so much of their own experiences in this show that it felt very raw and true to itself. The sound design, the chosen songs, the locations, the lightening and much more just felt right and made watching this show an excellent experience.
The show was sad at times, depressing and overwhelming and made me feel the same as Jae Won. But I could also feel the giddyness of Ji Hyun's first love, their happyness at the sea and how they love each other. This is what I miss in many other shows and impressed me very much. Both actors were superb in their play.
It also was lovely to see that both characters each had their own group of friends and how those friendships grew (or grew apart) and how both groups mingled more and more as closer to the end of the show we got. They showed how important true friendships are and that they can be as equally important as a romantic relationship.
I'm so glad that I didn't wait to binge this show. I needed those pauses between the episodes to process the story and what had happened to the characters and to read through all thoses amazing meta posts and to appreciate the wonderful gifs that were made.
Althought the show dealt with some serious issues it also felt hopeful and positive. As Jae Won and Ji Hyun say at the end of the show and is written as the header of this post, one should just try and find out what life will do with us.

So i was on instagram and came across this short video of a series that looked interesting.. it was of The Glory on Netflix.. I watched it and got hooked..
Showed my parents and they got hooked also...
Then we watched My Name.. which was intense but enjoyable. Although we preferred The Glory as there were a few lighthearted moments on there...
Now we are on Vincenzo.. which we are also loving. I am already looking for our next show. Something action drama + comedy. Cute leads is a bonus...
We have now been drawn into a whirlpool of Korean shows. These are sooooo good.

When the Waves rise
Category: Short Film Country: South Korea Where to watch: GagaOOLala Year: 2020 Duration: 39 min Finished: 14.05.2023
The story is about two best friends who couldn't be more different. Kyung-jun, popular and athletic, class president and part of the cool-boy gang, and Hwi-young, pale, unathletic and unpopular. It's Kyung-jun's birthday and Hwi-young actually has a present for him, but doesn't dare give it to him because it would reveal too much of his emotions, and he's unsure if his best friend would reciprocate those feelings or at least understand him.
Big spoilers under the cut!
A rumor begins to make its rounds and Kyung-jun turns away from his best friend, not understanding his own feelings and those of his friend. All he understands is that he should stay away from Hwi-young if he wants to continue to have a quiet and comfortable life.
And then Hwi-young's birthday is coming up. One week after Kyung-jun's. And they were supposed to have gone to the sea together, but Kyung-jun doesn't show up at the bus station. So Hwi-young goes alone. And this is where the room for interpretation starts to get huge. My interpretation, shaped by the basic mood of this short film, is that Hwi-young ended his own life, and in his paradise Kyung-jun comes to visit him. It was a long way to get there, after all. It's the way Hwi-young left his room, the way he neatly laid everything out once more, and the way he said goodbye with a last look. And it's the way Kyung-jun looks sadly back at the place where his friend used to sit before. It's the way the waves crash and how peaceful everything is at the end and how Hwi-young turns to the camera and how Kyung-jun opens the box and reads the letter. How everything doesn't seem real anymore and is covered with a layer of pure despair and peacefulness at the same time. It's the way the ending is left open and that after everything I've seen, I can't believe there's a happy ending.
Rarely have I seen such a sad film. Yet the sadness is almost barely shown. But everything about this film screams sorrow, despair and hopelessness. The scenery, the colors, the music, the acting, the long shots. Everything. The basic mood is so melancholic that it's hard to get back to the colors of everyday life afterwards.
Tumblr media
And yet I give 10 out of 10 points, because the story touched me, because I was involved with emotions, because it gripped me and because everything just fit. And it is not a problem if some things were not said directly, because they scream at you between the lines.
