Everyone’s maybe not doing so good and could use a little warmth.

6.5k, Lucretia & Taako Near the end of the century, Lucretia is feeling rough. Taako pulls her out of her funk and initiates a much needed rest. Fantastic characterization, of Lucretia as a whole, and the loyal, warm side of Taako. Warning for mentions of a suicide attempt and suicidal ideation.

And then she isn’t. --- In which Taako breaks his umbrella during the Petals to the Metal race, unknowingly freeing Lup, who is almost immediately captured by Kravitz. After becoming a member of the Raven Queen's retinue with Kravitz as her trainer, she has two missions: 1) find her family, and 2) ruin Kravitz's afterlife. A story about enemies becoming friends and lost families finding their way back to one another.

197k (currently), Lup & Kravitz Incredible characterization. I love the way Lup is written. Hilarious shenanigans, sweet friendship-building, and terribly sad sometimes, because it dives deep into the reality of Lup existing in a world that's forgotten her.

They’ve survived the apocalypse and now as far as they know, they’re the only ones left. Perhaps it was inevitable that they’d consider… repopulation. Lucretia writes up a weekly schedule to try and address that. Absolutely no one is happy with this.

76k (currently), IPRE crew The premise for this one is incredibly offputting, but I'm so glad I gave it a chance. The characterization and quality of writing is absolutely wonderful. I also love the attention to detail of the realistic difficulty of just surviving. Fantastically atmospheric, this fic dives deep into the uncertainty and fear of the first cycle, when the crew are all strangers, and the love that turns them into a family. Warning for extensive discussion of sexual assault.

A series of stories where Captain Davenport is secretly an emissary of Garl Glittergold, Gnomish god of pranks. And when you're a serious-minded captain on a mission to save all of reality, having a cheerful trickster god as your unexpected patron can get a little strange...

300k, Davenport A series of four works set in an AU where Davenport is an emissary to the leader of the gnomish pantheon. My absolute favorite depiction of Davenport, ever. The first three works are explorations of Davenport as a character and the relationships between people and gods in a DnD world. The last, Lost Gods, is the best fanfiction I've ever read. I can't express how good it is. The attention to detail among myriad plot threads, the building of themes, the characterization across just about every single character in Balance, all come together to create 223k words of a genuine masterpiece.

hi addie :3 i'm actually a big fan of the miyagi first years training camp friend group...i like to think that kogane starts a big group chat that hinata and goshiki use a lot, and kindaichi finds himself replying to it more often not, and hyakuzawa starts joining in, and kunimi and tsukishima might not be the most active members but they'll both reply to their friends. in particular i'm a really big fan of tsukishima and kunimi as friends...they're both really similar in how they react to kageyama and YET. they are on opposing sides of the net. kunimi and tsukishima are just so interesting to me.

y'know what's really interesting to me in TWSB? just how important christelle is. none of this would be possible if she weren't there. i think TWSB makes it fairly obvious that if jesse (yeseo) weren't there, TWSB would've followed the original route of QNW. and if jesse weren't a thing at all, i can see QNW being different but still ultimately a romfan that starts turbulently and ends with mutual love. and if cedric didn't exist, it's really easy to picture christelle and jesse (original or yeseo) somehow getting close and being friends regardless.

however. this can't really be said for jesse and cedric without christelle. and i'm not saying this to mean "cedric is bad or horrible and that's why" but rather to convey that christelle builds the bridge needed for the two of them to connect. and she does this voluntarily. throughout TWSB she goes out of her way to make sure cedric can get close to jesse like she does, and that is such an interesting dynamic. cause like? she doesn't have to do that. not only do they not get along for a good while, they outright clash (for both external and inherent reasons). she also doesn't necessarily think he's good for jesse. in fact, she's often frustrated with cedric for making things harder on prince jesse...

...but she understands him, is the thing. more than most other characters. honestly? i'd say at least equal to his mother and godmother. while she isn't as familiar with him as they are, she understands parts of him that they can only approximate, since they aren't holy knights. and very importantly: she understands him way more than jesse does. and i think more than he ever even can. which both boggles the mind and makes perfect sense when you think about it.

and so her understanding of him means she can't not help him. that's just the kind of person she is. she knows how much he not only needs jesse by his side but Wants him by his side. she understands that feeling more than anyone else in the world. she's such a cool and strong and compassionate and essential character who does more to balance the trio out than the other two combined and deserves so much more credit for that.

Actually obsessed with the idea of Riven and Helia being roommates !! I've already shared this headcanon but I like the idea of both of them having issues sleeping but for different reasons. literally i think about saladin's reaction to helia wanting to join That team every day... some prince and his bodyguard who prince and the paupered the whole school... some guy with trauma who almost helped the evil witches and then got thrown into witch jail... some nerd who's getting ignored by everyone..... all of them constantly arguing and ruining school events because they can't stop fighting.... and his grandson who ran off to art school and hates guys like that befriends them and wants to join their team.... and then the angry guy unintentionally sabotages a mission leading to a universe no magic panic and basically gets him (purposely) expelled... and helia's just okay with that. like WHAT went through saladin's head i need to know
