Vash's Dual Powers in Trigun Stampede
Or: Christ on a cracker episode eleven really was that fucked up holy shit
Here’s that essay about Stampede Vash’s powers I mentioned a while back. This is another where I yell about Trigun and gender and worry I’m spouting shit that was obvious to everyone, but you’re getting the essay anyway.
Content warnings include discussion of sexual assault, pregnancy, and forced pregnancy. I’ll be talking about episode eleven a lot so. Yeah.
The first time we see Vash manifest his powers is the same time Knives and Conrad do: when he creates a black hole in his arm. We see it absorb the corpses of the people Knives just killed, and we can see from Vash’s panicked expression he has no control over it. Knives then cuts his arm off because his brother just manifested an entire black hole like right there.
(It’s worth noting that the music track for this scene is called ‘Drain Gate’, and another track using Vash’s theme is called ‘Plant of Drain’. In the episode twelve stinger the Pieces of Earth fleet reference using something called a ‘drain gate’, which might be related to FTL travel. I have no conclusions for this point, just that this powers seem to have greater implications than just ‘black hole’ in Stampede.)
So far this is stuff the manga has more or less covered before. Vash’s power specifically was creating black holes. In TriMax we see July and its citizens consumed by a black hole. For Stampede though, Orange gave Vash a secondary power: fertility.
And I do mean fertility and not virility; the capacity to become pregnant versus the capacity to impregnate someone else. At the start of episode eleven, Knives penetrating Vash is pretty obviously phallic. His knives are the literal mechanism by which he seizes control of and violates Vash’s mind and body. On the other hand, when Vash sprouts roots which connect to the other plants in the tank, it doesn’t read as phallic to me.
They look like umbilical cords.
Each root connects to the plants’ stomachs, and aside from a brief red flash this doesn’t appear to cause them any pain or distress, contrary to Vash flailing away from his brother’s blades. We see energy move down the roots from Vash to the plants, and when they unfurl to reveal their pregnancies the roots remain connected at their navels. They look surprised and afraid. Those pregnancies are, almost literally, also his.
For all of Conrad’s technobabble about the plant core and souls and whatever, Vash’s powers seem to boil down to this: he can send things to the higher plane by creating a black hole, and he can take from the plane by manifesting with his, or others’, bodies.
I think this interpretation is reinforced by a series of three shots after Knives says “Happy birthday Vash". The pussy portal opens behind Vash (with a goopy sound effect), we cut to outside the tower to see the purple flowers blooming on the roots, and cut again to inside the tank where the plants unfurl to reveal they’ve become massively pregnant. Portal, flower, pregnancy. It’s all about biological reproduction.
And then Knives goes into the pussy portal and finds an inter dimensional ovum, which he then also penetrates with his blades, explicitly to impregnate all the other plants.
Like.
Studio Orange looked at the Fifth Moon chapter in the original Trigun manga and said “You are like little baby. Watch this.” and then made an episode which made me spend the rest of the day somewhere dark and quiet when I first watched it because holy shit.
(It shouldn’t go unsaid Vash and Knives are canonically trans in Stampede, it’s in the text even if it’s not what Orange was thinking of! Vash is surrounded by yonic imagery and Knives has no dong I don’t know what else to tell you.) (edit: okay so maybe not CANON canon but i'd still argue it's an easy interpretation to make)
There’s always been a dichotomy at the heart of Vash as a character: a desire for peace versus the necessity of violence. A living weapon trying to live and love among humans who constantly reject him. Avoiding hurting others while physically capable of great and terrible destruction.
When Vash regains control he transforms the growths he was forced to make into a MacGuffin that’s easy for the twins to fight over. He transforms what he was forced to create into a bomb, because there didn’t seem to be any other way for him to neutralize the mass. (I assume this because Vash seemed to have immediate and almost perfect control of his powers in episode twelve, and it would be strange for ‘make a bomb’ to be his first choice for dealing with the roots.) Vash has been forced to create something that poses a danger to himself and everyone around him.
Vash was a weapon, even in creating life, from the roots growing to choke all of JuLai, to the pregnant plants, to the nuke cube obliterating the largest human city on the planet.
Forced creation is no different from destruction. Reproduction is not beautiful or honorable when unwilling.
(This is my essay so I’ll allow myself another aside: episode eleven is a good demonstration of why I tend to prefer genre above more realistic stories. Here, like in the manga, we see a metaphorical rape scene stripped of anything that could be (intentionally) titillating, leaving only the victim’s fear and pain. I feel like only in this kind of metaphor can sex be stripped away from assault, and instead put the focus on the emotions of the scene.)
Vash having fertility as a power is (one of many) things that fascinate me about Trigun Stampede. I’m an afab nonbinary person, I’ve always been afraid of getting pregnant, and I’ve never wanted kids. Sexual assault is something I’m deeply afraid of, and I would genuinely rather die than give birth. It’s all tied up in my feelings about my gender and my body and how it’s perceived by others. Vash is pretty much experiencing my literal worst nightmare.
All this circles back to what might be my favorite topic when it comes to analyzing Trigun: how it depicts masculinity.
There’s a lot about masculinity in Trigun that I think is genuinely radical to some degree, and whether it’s something Orange intended to add or if it’s just easier to do a queer interpretation of this version of the story isn’t a question I’m interested in. I’m gonna rub my gay trans little hands all this anime and you can’t stop me!
Stampede doesn’t depict fertility and masculinity as opposites or even incompatible. Vash and his body isn’t made repulsive because he has this power, in fact when he regains control he gets a color change and a sick new hairstyle. Vash possessing this power isn’t depicted as that different from the black hole, it’s just a thing he can do, but here it’s being taken advantage of by his brother. The disgust and horror isn’t from the metaphor of a man becoming pregnant, it’s because he was violated by someone who claims to love him and want to protect him.
For contrast, imagine a similar scene, in which a masculine character is surrounded by feminine/pregnancy imagery, and consider how it would likely be framed in most other mainstream media. Those of you who don’t live under rocks might even think of some examples! Typically in media, men seen anywhere in proximity to femininity are mocked and humiliated.
Vash’s masculinity, his identity, his personhood, are ultimately disconnected from his capacity to reproduce, and by what means his body is or is not capable of making babies. He regained agency because Meryl called out to him, and she called out because he inspired her, and she was inspired because he was out making human connections with people, trying so hard to do the right thing even when he failed. His powers are a part of him, but not what ultimately make Vash truly powerful.
I’m curious to see if/how Studio Orange will continue with this theme going forward. So much of Vash’s character is about contradiction, and in this way they’re making some of those themes even more literal. More contrast-y.
To wrap this up, here’s one more thing I’m curious about: what will become of the Independents who will be born from this? The pregnant plants escaped with Conrad and his flying saucer lab. Assuming any children survive, and considering how much the twins grew in only a year, they could have a role in the future story. What will they be like? How will their origin shape the people they become? How much will Knives control (or fail to control) his children? What will they think of humanity, of Knives, of Vash, of themselves?

I made more fankids…
And a rival and best friend for Artie…
More info under the cut
Y’all already know my Shadamy kids but Sunny is now a former G.U.N. agent. She quit. The reason why is a mystery.
We got some Knuxouge kids! Mirage, Warden, and Prickle. Mirage was meant to become the next guardian of the master emerald, but ended up passing it down to her little brother Warden who wanted it way more than her and became an actual G.U.N. agent like her mother. She takes after her mother in that way. She’s ultra tall and Warden is mad cause she was already taller than him at one year younger. Also she’s trans. Good for her. Warden is the “serious” one who is really dedicated to being the next guardian. He’s got the braincell of the three and is a short king. Prickle hates everyone and likes to be alone in nature. Despite Warden being the next guardian, Prickle is the most in tune with the emerald and angel island in general and often communicates with Tikal’s spirit. But nobody else can see, so for example, Rouge sees him talk to himself and is like “who tf is he talking to”
Tailsream kids! Lars, Specs, and Posy. L.A.R.S. stands for Laboratory Assistive Remedial Software. He is an ai that Tails made shortly before Specs was born to help him in the lab that turned out to be sentient. After specs was born, Lars dedicated himself to protecting her and being the perfect big brother. So Tails was like “Welp, I guess I have two children now.” and adopted him. They say he’s “15” just because that’s how he looks and acts. Specs is best girl. She’s very safety-minded and polite and she carries around a seemingly bottomless backpack full of anything you could ever possibly need. She’s called Specs after her glasses but also for how she would help Tails in his workshop and list of software “specs” for him. Posy is a little monster who revels in creating chaos, but she’s cute so she gets away with it. Also, she likes to drag Prickle around to act as her Guinea pig and he lets her because he’s too nice to say no.
The Silvaze Twins! They both live with their mother in the palace since they never know when the future will go to shit again, and Silver is usually there with them acting as Royal consort. Ember was born a few minutes before her brother, making her heir to the throne, which both are 100% fine with. Ember strives to be the best heir possible and takes her job very seriously. She loves to study and also practices fencing as neither she nor her brother inherited their parents psychic or pyrokinetic abilities. Her brother, Cinder, on the other hand, hates being in the palace and prefers to goof off most of the time. He’ll often try to cause trouble around the castle, which Ember will usually try to stop, except when he occasionally convinces her to join in. While Ember enjoys more classical studies, Cinder is fascinated by dimensional science and time travel and longs to explore all the countless dimensions out there.
Finally, some neighborhood kids. While Sunny’s main group is Mirage and Ember, Artie has these two weirdos. There’s his best friend Peppy, a reckless, energetic mouse who loves going on misadventures around town but is often betrayed by her own clumsiness. She and Artie are constantly arguing over who is the other’s sidekick and often have to save each other’s butts, but one thing’s for sure is these two idiots are inseparable. Spot, on the other hand, is the local delinquent and Artie’s official rival. Why? Idk, it doesn’t really matter. After all “all heroes have a rival” although this rivalry is often forgotten in favor of teaming up to get the job done or just to hang out. However, they still definitely hate each other and don’t like each other at all. They totally don’t enjoy the bantering or have a crush on the other at all. Pure rivals
Also, Sonic doesn’t have kids, he’s just the cool pseudo-uncle who visits a lot and babysits. And they all definitely have big family get-togethers and family dinners all the time. Because found family is the most important family of all. Anyway, thanks for reading imma go nap.

So it’s a diner
That appears somewhere new, every day. Somewhere (ANYWHERE) in the universe, time, or parallel worlds.
You have met aliens, seen trans dimensional beings, and talk to people who live in a fake radio and can see you but not themselves.
You’re over 130 years old.
And you were SHOCKED, some would say gobsmacked, that your late night traveling semi sentient dinner’s cook…. Is a felon.
Man I don’t know how to break this to you but every cook at Waffle House I vibed with, every waitress at ihop that could hold a conversation, and all the best people slinging breakfast at all hours… was a felon. They don’t exactly bring it up, ever. How was this your big betrayal moment?

To Survive on This Shore: Photographs and Interviews with Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Older Adults by Jess T. Dugan & Vanessa Fabbre
goodreads
Tumblr media
Representations of older transgender people are nearly absent from our culture and those that do exist are often one-dimensional. For over five years, photographer Jess T. Dugan and social worker Vanessa Fabbre traveled throughout the United States creating To Survive on This Shore: Photographs and Interviews with Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Older Adults. Seeking subjects whose lived experiences exist within the complex intersections of gender identity, age, race, ethnicity, sexuality, socioeconomic class, and geographic location, they traveled from coast to coast, to big cities and small towns, documenting the life stories of this important but largely underrepresented group of older adults. The featured individuals share a wide variety of life narratives spanning the last ninety years, offering an important historical record of transgender experience and activism in the United States. The resulting portraits and narratives provide a nuanced view into the struggles and joys of growing older as a transgender person and offer a poignant reflection on what it means to live authentically despite seemingly insurmountable odds.
Mod opinion: This sounds like a really interesting photography book focussing on trans history. Unfortunately i haven't been able to read it yet.

Idk if u will do this request but! Miguel’s time is like futuristic set right? ( trans people would just transition and be more accepted in this timeline sí right? 😭) so Miguel He went to college at a high prestige science university and so did reader for he is too an smart as him with his own creations in robotics and chemistry. Miguel had tried to get alone room accommodation but failed and got partnered up with transftm!reader and they became roommates. Reader fell in love with Miguel but he didn’t notice cuz he was too focused on his work and whatever. Years go by aka spider verse but suddenly miguel needs help from his old college roommate. "Miguel, I hate to tell you this but we can't-"
"There has to be another way, you designed this Lyla!"
"Hey! Don't blame the AI, blame the maker! I only followed what you said!"
Lyla huffs and glitches to another part of the console. Miguel is currently hunched over a table in the corner of his lair, the only light illuminating his project is the light rod over his workbench and the monitors around him.
The girl busies herself with schematics, working out equations and trying to find where they went wrong.
Miguel's latest work on the multiverse brace is to eliminate the glitches that it makes whenever someone uses it. It could potentially lead to wounds from the cells traveling to a different world, and even the healing factor won't fix it. Worst-case scenario, it would lead to a fatal wound, possibly death, and Miguel can't risk that if he's gonna start interdimensional travel.
His eyes scan over the chip connected to his computer, adding and removing codings that might've gone wrong. He's wearing the headband Lyla gifted him, or mailed to him when it was his birthday months ago, to be exact.
"I swear the shell is all good, Miguel. It should all contain the molecules needed for the portal bracelet,"
"Can you please stop calling it that?"
"What? 'Portal'?"
"Yes. It's not a portal, we already have that," Miguel rolls his eyes, gluing them back to the screen.
"Then what are we calling it?" Lyla pouts, adjusting her heart glasses.
"Transdimensional Pathfinding Wristlet."
Lyla pauses her work, and turns to Miguel, her brows raised, the blinks once, twice. "Wh- seriously?"
"Y'know what, I'm not even gonna try," He shakes her head before glitching to another monitor. "Leave it to the crazy scientist to name his things,"
Miguel ignores what his AI had said, instead focusing back on the chip. If this succeeds, it’ll be the first dimensional trip the prototype could make, and he’d prefer not to be a piece of burnt toast once he comes out of it. He coded another line, before he ran a diagnostic. The screen glares red, the annoyingly big letters of ‘ERROR’ pops up.
Miguel blinks, before he feels his claws coming out, promptly making him stand and throw his chair across the room. It shatters, the metal pieces clinking to the concrete floor. He heaves, sharp fangs bared, barely causing anger at his fingertips.
Lyla fixes him with a look. “That your fifth chair Miguel,”
The man takes a steady breath, wiping his hand across his face, working at his jaw. He tilts his head sharply and something pops. He faintly hears Lyla clicking her tongue.
"There's a guy I know,"
"What do you mean there isn't any- I booked a single room last week,"
"I'm sorry but there must've been a mishap in the system. I'm going to have to put you with an available roommate,"
"I don't want-" Miguel sighs, tapping his foot insistently. "Look, is there any way I can register for another single room?"
"You can wait a couple of weeks for a vacant room, but you'd need to consult with the head of the faculty." She nodded to him, a regretful look behind those blonde bangs. Miguel huffs, hands on his hips, thinking out a decision.
"Fine," He groans. "Who's still available for a roommate then?"
The girl's brows raise before she quickly types something into the computer, reading out what looks like a list with numbers and names. "Oh!" She smiles. "Room 304, on the third floor is still awaiting a roommate,"
"Great, thank you," Miguel grumbles, already picking up his boxes where he left them on the floor.
"If you'd like-" The girl calls for him again. "I can talk to the faculty member, see if I can help you with the room situation,"
"Sure, I'd appreciate it," Miguel's back is already turned to her as he makes his way to the building's elevator. With his gym bag slung over his shoulder, and the boxes of his unfinished work, traversing the hallway takes a bit of an effort. Students were not mingling around because most of them were already in their rooms, with the time turning just after 5 PM.
Finally, he reaches the elevator doors. Miguel shuffles the boxes into one hand, struggling to press the button before he is beaten to it by another hand reaching for the ascend button too.
"Here man, let me help you," The person says, already picking up the two boxes that cover Miguel's vision even before he said anything.
"Hey don't-" He begins, before he finally gets a good look at the person that dared to touch his scraps. The man in front of him, standing just inches taller than him, hair with an unintelligible style, captivating eyes and the faintest smirk on his lips.
Miguel's brain stutters a bit. "I'm- nevermind, thanks,"
"Of course dude," And Miguel's interest plummets. "What floor?"
"Third please," He nods, pressing the button once he and Miguel get in. The door closes and leaves the two in silence, only the faint whirr of the elevator's machine.
"So, late to dorm assignments?"
"Nah, they messed up my request,"
"Shit, really?" He turns to Miguel, his brows furrowed.
"Yeah, now I'm stuck with a damn roomie,"
"Oh yeah? What room?"
"304, apparently," Miguel huffs, looking down into the box he's carrying, the tape on it peeling slightly. The guy halts, now his brows are raised.
Miguel's turn to look confused, before the guy chuckles lightly. "Funny you say that 'cuz,"
"I'm room 304," He smirks, readjusting the boxes.
There's a pause, before he feels the red of embarrassment gathers on his cheeks. "You're-"
"That damn roomie? Yeah,"
"Fuck, sorry I didn't-"
"No no, it's fine! Really," The guy laughs, shaking his head while Miguel tries to formulate a coherent sentence. "I don't mind man, I get wanting your own space though,"
"Hey, I hope I'll be a good roomie," He bumps Miguel's shoulder lightly, his smile not fading. Miguel finds himself mimicking it slightly. After that, he introduced himself to Miguel, his major and such.
The elevator opens just after that, the two make their way down the hallway. He asks about Miguel's major too, just as they reach the door.
"I seriously didn't think I'd get a roomie," He chuckles, turning the key with a million other key chains. It jingles, before he pushes the door open and into the room. "I'll go check with the front desk-"
"Oh!" He turns after putting down the two boxes he was carrying. "Just got the text, said they'll give you the key tomorrow,"
"Great," Miguel rolls his eyes, putting down his box on the vacant desk and his duffle on the chair. He turns, inspecting the room that he's been sent to stay in. One side is already cluttered with his roommate's stuff, plants and books and papers strewn about. He tilts his head when he spots a flag on his desk.
"You're trans?" Miguel asks, turning to him where he was still standing with his phone out. He hums and lifts his head, meeting Miguel's browns.
"Oh that old thing? Yeah," He scratches the back of his neck. "I know, I get it. No one really cares nowadays, the worlds moved on, whatever,"
He glances at the little flag, pink and white and blue adding color to the messy desk. He smiles. "It's a reminder, I guess,"
Miguel stares at the flag, just once, before he nods and shrugs, turning to open his boxes. "Sure, that's cool,"
He can practically feel the sunshine radiating from his roommate behind him. He crosses his arms, turning again to face him, and he's right because his roommate has a really bright smile. "I hope we'll be good friends, Miguel,"
"Miguel there's so many people in Nueva York how am I supposed to-'' Lyla stops, before she grins. "Nevermind, found him!"
Miguel finishes his spider shot, cracking his neck again as he sets the syringe down. He turns towards Lyla, the AI already projecting the location. "Looks like our guy lives in… the slums? I thought you said he was a prodigy,"
"Yeah well not everyone gets a decent job even if they are a genius," Miguel huffs, running his hand through his hair as he looks at the mirror.
"Who's you said the guy was again?" Lyla begins to scroll through the data.
Miguel sighs. "Old roommate, back in college,"
"Ooh, interesting," She giggles.
"Lyla don't-"
"I'm not looking through his history! Just a peek, though,"
Miguel lets out another sigh, walking towards the large opened window. "Uh, hey Miguel, are you sure about this?"
"Why what's wrong?"
Lyla displays her screen as it glitches in front of Miguel. According to her research, the old roomie has been caught by the police stealing items from hardware stores and electronic stores, a handful of accounts of disruption of peace according to the other tenants in his old apartment. And he's currently deemed missing.
"Where did you say his location was?" Miguel reads through the file, his brows knitted.
"Just here, some abandoned warehouse in the slums,"
“Miguel, man, you’ve got to eat,” A tray for warm food was suddenly placed between Miguel's paperwork. He huffs, pushing the plate away and to the edge of his already small table. He hears a sigh, before the plate is moved out of his peripherals, and Miguel is back into his work.
“Dude, you only ate like, one energy bar after going to the gym,”
“I’m fine,”
Another exasperated sigh, before his roommate goes back to whatever robotics he was working on. Miguel has been perfecting his latest assignment the whole week, going back and forth on his computer, writing down research papers and consulting with his professors. Meanwhile, the man that he shares his room with is tinkering with a recent robotic piece he’s been pouring his heart into.
It’s correct that they share most of their schedule together. Miguel would wake up before dawn, and so would he. They’d run a couple of laps around campus before hitting the gym just before it gets too crowded. He’d spot for Miguel while Miguel would comment on his form if it needs any improvement. Sometimes they’d share breakfast together, before they head for their different classes, though ever since Miguel has been engrossed in his recent paperwork, their time spent together has been blessed. It'd be a lie to say Miguel doesn't miss their shared time, but he supposes seeing him back in their room after a long day is enough. Though, it doesn't seem enough for his friend.
Unbeknownst to Miguel, his roommates have been supporting a devastating crush on him. Stolen glances, longing eyes whenever Miguel's back is turned towards him. Times when he’d stare a bit too long whenever Miguel was doing his bench presses, times when he’d stand close just to feel the comforting warmth beside him. He’d fuss over Miguel, bringing food or drinks, bringing things Miguel might've forgotten with his busy schedule. Sometimes, when Miguel worked too late and too much, he’d fall asleep on his desk, at which he’d bring his blanket to cover Miguel’s back. In the morning, he rolls his eyes and says something about Miguel getting a bad back, which Miguel would promptly ignore.
It’s currently Friday night. The man that's sitting on the opposite side of the room has seemingly lost interest in his robotics and decided to peer out of their bedroom window. Suddenly, Miguel is bombarded by a loud shout coming from outside of their room, and snaps quickly to the source. He sees his roommate has opened the bedroom window and is looking out into the campus’ courtyard.
“Yeah, I'll join you! Be right down!” He hollers, before he shuts and locks the window. Miguel turns, blinking away the slight dizziness he got.
“Who was that?”
“A friend, they're having a party at one of the frat houses, you wanna join?” He grins, pulling on his leather jacket and pocketing his belongings. Miguel has never been to a party and he's not about to start going, especially when he has a deadline to push. He shakes his head, always swiveling back his chair.
“No thanks,”
He hears his friend scoff. “Come on Miguel! You’ve been working on that thing for ages now, you deserve a break, and the deadline isn't for another month!”
“I’m not interested,” Miguel bites back, barely glancing at his pleas.
“Just this once, I promise it’ll be fun! I’ll be there and I can take care of-”
“I said I'm not interested.” He spits out, already hunching into the part he’s soldiering. He doesn't hear anything, not an answer or another push for him to join. The air has changed, something heavy hangs between them. The tension is palpable, but despite it all Miguel only hears the shuffling of his friend's boots.
“Sure, whatever,” His roommate fixes a stare at the back of Miguel's head, before he unlocks their door. “Y’know, one of these days that work of yours is going to destroy you if you're not careful,”
And with that, he leaves Miguel alone for the night.
“What the fuck!” Miguel jumps and manages to hold on to the side of the building. “Lyla searches for his weakness points!”
“Hah! You think this has a weakness, Miguel?!” The man shouts, a wide grin on his lips. “I’ve perfected these arms, they are practically indestructible!”
“SO this is how you greet your old roommate?”
“I’d prefer for us to meet for coffee, but after how you treated me, I think this…” He brings a menacing robotic arm towards him, as if to inspect it. “Is way better,”
The arm suddenly lunges towards Miguel which he narrowly avoids. He jumps and entwines two of the appendages together as he lands behind the man, at which he growls and breaks free of Miguel’s red webs. “I never treated you badly!”
“No, not really huh,” He smirks. “But you never noticed the shit I did for you anyways!”
He spears those sharp arms towards Miguel which he does a couple of doges before jumping down the rooftop they were currently fighting on.
“All of those morning coffees, late dinners, all for nothing! None! All because you were so fucking focused-” He sharply turns, grabbing Miguel’s wrist and stopping him from dropping a punch. He suddenly pulls Miguel towards him, burning anger behind those eyes. “On combining a damn spider's DNA with yourself!”
He throws the Spiderman across the street, breaking several walls until the momentum finally stops. Miguel groans, cracking his neck when Lyla suddenly pops up. “Boss, the control panel for those arms is on his back, if you could pull it apart from him, it’ll stop him from controlling it,”
“On it.” Miguel swiftly stands, running through the many rooms he passed before leaping into the air, catching the man off guard. He throws a punch that lands on his face, throwing him off balance and into the concrete street below. He grows, and fixes his jaw, before launching back to full force against Miguel.
“It was all fine until you went out with that fucking brunette!” He shouts, throwing debris towards Miguel which he weaves and dodges. “Did I ever mean anything to you?!”
He’s got Miguel pinned to the ground, and pushes all of the arms to stab at him, but instead misses and gets buried in the ground instead when Miguel swiftly pulls away with his web. He struggles to get the appendages out of the strong concrete, suddenly finding them stuck, an opportunity for Miguel to rip the control panel off. He swings above the man, landing directly behind him where he quickly digs his nails into the seams of the panel.
“I’m sorry,” Miguel manages before he pulls. An ear-splitting scream, before deathly silence. Miguel could only hear his heavy breath, before sparks of green ran through the man's body, and it jolted him. He shouts, before falling into the pavement. Miguel takes a beat to examine the control panel, before throwing it somewhere on the ground. He spots the bareback of his once roommate, a horrid sight of root-like marks growing around the man's back. Miguel furrows his brows, before he hears the faint police sirens, no doubt coming over to clean up the commotion.
Just as Miguel was about to make his leave, he heard the man cough, a horrid groan behind him. Miguel glances slightly, as he hears him begin to speak.
“I was right… Your work did destroy you.”

"Literally studied space and inter-dimensional travel and magic and necromancy for 100 years. She was part of her home planet’s first inter-dimensional expedition on a crew of 7. She’s got that transfem swag and literally became a lich for love and science and to save the universe"
"She’s incredible. She’s trans, she’s a lich, she and her husband pined for decades before getting together, she’s an elf, she’s a twin, but that’s all just spices in the cake. She’s genuinely a genius and a total badass and is so full of love. She is the first character i thought of for submitting to a women in stem bracket because she’s just so iconic. Lup Adventurezone i would die for you"

“Can I ask you a question?”
Janet turned to face her semi-regular visitor, an alternative version of her son, and boy, wasn’t that a sentence?
“Different from the ones I’ve been asking, I mean?”
“Oh course, birdie.”
It had been rather awkward for the both of them the first time Janet had instinctively used a pet name that she used for her own Tim, one that his Mother had also used for him.
He had blinked away tears so quickly that if she hadn’t known all versions of her son so dearly she would have thought she had imagined it.
From that point on she made sure to only call him Tim or Birdie, a pet based off his hero identity, (and it still took the breath out of her lungs to think about any version of her baby fighting criminals with nothing but a belt full of tools and a metal staff. Her fear for him was not at all canceled out by her pride). The name deemed safe since her own Tim was a civilian.
Though, even “Tim” got confusing sometimes when trying to differentiate between her son and the son of dead version of herself.
She had asked if it would perhaps be better to call him Jackson and he had frowned at the suggestion, suggesting Alvin or Carl as alternatives instead with a sudden, sly smirk and a snicker when he saw her expression.
He smiled at her now, a soft, gentle thing, that spoke of comfort but his eyes were sad.
“Do you think…” he paused, “Do you think, if things were reversed between our worlds and you had passed, sorry, this is, uh, um a pretty heavy question...”
Tim trailed off, eyes glued to the bare white wall across from him and Janet walked over and sat beside him, not touching, just silently offering support.
“It’s okay, it’s obviously burdening you, let me carry some of the weight. What’s on your mind, Birdie?”
“If it were you that had die-passed, and your Tim had access to trans-dimensional travel, would it… would it make you sad or hurt your feelings if your Tim was to visit my mom?”
Janet paused, thinking it over.
Tim didn’t look at her, allowing her to consider her words carefully.
“A little bit, I think. Not hurt, but sad, because of course my preference would be to be a part of his life. However, even if it would make me a little sad, it would mean the world to me that another Janet was able to open up her arms to my son, that he had found a way to ease his pain, even if just a little bit.”
He smiled at her and it was watery.
“You know, when I come to visit, I take the information you give me and I go though my Mama’s stuff, almost like I’m gathering clues here and putting the pieces together there.”
He paused, trying and failing to not fidget.
“I had no idea, about the Emily Dickinson poem, until you told me and then I went home and she had used that poem in a couple of her poems and social media posts.”
He leaned in to her space.
“It’s nice, getting to learn about her, even now that she’s gone… I appreciate you, you giving me the chance to do so.”
Janet gently bumped shoulders with him, “Of course, Birdie.”
“It also kind of feels weird,” he confessed, “to investigate my own mom like this.”
Janet hummed, and took a chance, “Well, you are two anthropologists’ son, investigating the dead is kind of in your blood.”
Tim choked out a laugh, “Yeah,” he huffed out, voice low and rough but still amused, “guess you’re right.”
He leaned back against the sofa, “She’d love that, I think, being an anthropological revelation.”
“I’d be flattered, certainly.”
Tim snickered at that.
“Do you think your Tim is gonna be an anthologist. Like you and his dad?”
Janet hummed, “Maybe. He enjoys coming out to digs on holidays and summer vacations. But he also enjoys his photography and he keeps making jokes, that I’m not entirely sure are actually jokes about becoming a professional skateboarder.”
Tim snorted in amusement, “Well, I’m rooting for him if he goes for it.”
Janet grinned. “I will too, if that’s his passion in life, though I will expect him to have a backup plan, of course.”
“Of course.” Tim agreed.
“Anything but vigilante!” She shook his shoulder gently, “I already have one of those to worry about!”
He laughed, and he didn’t sound like her own Tim when he laughed.
He sounded like her, or well, she thought, another version of me.

With over 400k words under my belt of purely crossover fanfiction (no really) I feel like I've dabbled enough in the genre to pinpoint three distinct types of Crossover Fanfiction Setups. With no one else to rant about this, and the hopes that this will be helpful to someone, here's you go:
A Breakdown on All Three Ways to Cross Fandoms Together
1- Fandom Fusion
My favorite type. This is where the worlds are happening on the same plane, simultaneously with one another. So, both stories are happening, or have happened, or will happen, without meshing with each other. Except they don't. Characters from each world meet, and get pulled into the other world's shenanigans. Very easy to do when both stories are both taking place in modern day Earth. Or in similar time periods of Earth.
2- Portal Crossover
Breaking out the isekai trope here. It's a classic work, with a built in setup in stories where grand cosmic scale is introduced. I'm talking the Gate sending Edward Elric into another world, or jonmartin finding Somewhere Else to be another medium entirely. Or Amphibia's music box, or Owl House's Between Dimensions or- or- or- you get it.
It's easy to do, and people are generally willing to accept PORTAL happening esp in superhero media and the like. You dont have to figure out how to make the fandoms compatible either, and gives a good common goal for all parties to work towards (i.e. return the interloper home)
Doesn't have to be a trans dimensional portal. Could be a time travel thing. Or visions. Or whichever plot device you find fits most. I enjoy this a lot because it forces characters who would never normally meet to interact and we need that. The two fandoms being transported could easily be fictional in each other's universes. Or not. The possibilities are endless with this one, just on a surface level.
3- Scenery Change
Last, there is the Alternate Universe Setting. Or, as I prefer, the Scenery Change. This is where the characters from one fandom are taken wholesale and translated into another setting, never having experienced their Original World. You know which ones I'm talking about. The Percy Jackson AUs where characters from another fandom are given godly parents. The Hunger Game AUs. The fandom w four easily separated groups that we do not talk about anymore but is prolly still v prevalent.
There's a lot that can be done with this, ranging both from fluff oneshots to 100k plots, but I've found that this is most effective when unique characters are placed into a very structured setting from another media, where their unique perspectives and reactions will color the overdone situation and give it life. The appeal of these crossovers lie solely in this: "We've seen it happen before, but what would happen if these characters were here?"
And. It. Works.
--------
So, yeah, careful observation has made me categorize these three premises. Tell me if you think there are more. Probably might do some breakdowns on the themes and the possibilities each premise holds the best weight for, and what goes into a crossover AFTER the two fandoms meet.

[ APRIL FOOLS — Gift for Sal ❤️ ]
“Pasta Primavera Majoris,” Steve blurted out, eyes narrowed at the blurry stars casted over head, trying to discern whether or not he was hallucinating the giant connect-the-dot plate of spaghetti and meatballs.
Startled laughter filled the quiet night air, pulling Steve away from the confusion to face Jonathan and Eddie who were giggling away as if Steve had said the funniest thing in the world. “What? It’s a fucking Italian constellation!”
“Fucking Pasta Primavera!” Eddie laughed loudly. “Where the fuck did that come from?”
Steve’s cheeks flushed and he looking towards Argyle for some form of moral support, “Doesn’t it look like pasta?”
Argyle lifted his gaze towards the sky, humming lowly before nodding, “Yeah, bro, that’s a big plate of pasta.”
“Oh my god,” Jonathan giggled, his head dropped down, hiding his face. He could barely hold his bong, and Steve momentarily wondered if Jonathan smoked way more then he should have in the past twenty minutes.
“No, no,” Eddie waved his hand, nearly dropping to blunt. “I don’t give two shits if it looks like a giant dildo, I wanna know where you got the fucking name from!”
Steve shrugged, “Dunno, man, just kind of popped up in my head — hey, Argyle, do you still have some of those brownies?”
Argyle grinned, reaching into his bag and tossing Steve a pack, “Careful, man, I don’t know how much weeds infused with it.”
“It’ll be fine,” Steve said, pulling out a brownie and breaking off a piece, just to be safe, especially since they were still passing around the bong and apparently Eddie’s freshly rolled joint.
“You know, it looks like an intellect devourer,” Eddie said.
Steve paused, frowning as he glanced at Eddie, “A what now?”
“It’s a monster from DND,” Jonathan explained. “It like eats your intelligence or something? I can barely remember what Will said about it.”
“Oh,” Steve hummed, narrowing his eyes at the sky, trying to imagine what in the absolute hell an Intellect Devourer was. Was it like a brain parasite that jumped on your face and made you brain dead?
“It’s a brain,” Eddie added, before pausing thoughtfully. “It has legs and tentacles. Creepy shit, dude.”
“Cerebrum Cacophony," Steve said.
Argyle leaned forward, staring at Steve in stunned amazement, “What about a constellation for a weed leaf?”
“Cosmic Kush,” Jonathan jumped in, handing to bong to Eddie. “I think that’d be a cool name.”
Steve pursed his lips together, nodding. “It’s cool, but is it funny?”
“Does it have to be funny?”
“Nah, but I don’t know,” Steve chuckled as his train of thought ran away from him. “I was thinking of something like Stellar Stash System. That’s not funny either, damn.”
“No, wait, hold on,” Jonathan said, sitting up. “Follow me here, man. The system is basically just this giant rolling paper guiding intergalactic travelers on a journey through an trans-dimensional trip.”
It was quiet for a moment, before Argyle spoke, “I got no clue what you said, but that sounds like a fun time.”
“Is that what Star Wars was?” Steve blurted. “I feel like that was trip that you needed to be high to fully enjoy.”
Eddie shook his head, leaning his head down, lighting the bowl of the bong and taking a slow inhale before lifting the bong and breathing in the smoke. He held it for a minute before breathing out, the smoke lingering up into the night sky. “There’s way too many intense moments for it to be a good trip.”
“Fuck, you’re right,” Steve groaned. “Fuck the Rebellion, honestly.”
“Dude — Steve, are you an Empire Supporter?” Eddie asked in disbelief. “You, of all people?”
Steve stared blankly at him, “I will never forgive them for what they did to Anakin.”
Eddie stared blankly at him, before snorting loudly, “Holy shit, you’re a nerd!”
“Look, Dustin got me into the movies, and I found out there were books! I liked the Ewoks, and stayed for Daddy Darth.”
“Daddy Darth!?”
“Holy shit, Steve!”
“Seems like you got a thing for the dark side,” Argyle joked.
Steve rolled his eyes, shoving the small piece of brownie into his mouth, “Yeah, it’s why I used to let flesh monsters take a chunk out of me — major turn on.”
“Imagine becoming a high ranking commanding officer just because you got your dick hard for Darth fucking Vader,” Eddie cried.
“I’d be the prettiest commanding officer, thank you,” Steve rolled his eyes. “Padme would be jealous.”
“She’d be fighting a losing battle,” Argyle said seriously. “You’re a very pretty man, Steve.”
Steve ran his hand through his hair, a cocky smirk on his face as he winked at Argyle, “Back at you, babe.” He held the look for a minute before bursting out into a fit of giggles, Argyle joining in with him a moment later.
“Okay, wait, while I agree that Stevie here is very pretty, I regret to inform that Padme would very much win that battle,” Eddie argued.
“What do you think Jon?” Steve grinned.
“What the hell happened to talking about constellations?” Jonathan instantly changed the subject. He glanced up at the sky, “That looks like a worm — Luminescent Locomotion of Lumbricus!”
Steve snorted, starting to randomly sing off-key, “Wormhole Wiggle, it's out of control. Stars all a-wriggle, in a cosmic stroll. So grab your spacesuit, and prepare to giggle, As we groove to the rhythm of the Wormhole Wiggle!”
“Did you just make a jingle?” Eddie exclaimed.
“He mentioned a space worm — why not a wormhole?”
“Steve’s over her fighting the jock allegations,” Jonathan grinned lazily.
“Hey, I never said I wasn’t smart,” Steve huffed. “I just pick up random information and then it just gets stuffed into my brain like a parasite. Let me tell you, I know way more lore and theories about Garfield, the fucking cat, then I would really care to know.”
“Oh man,” Argyle grinned. “Please impart your words of wisdom. I fucking love Garfield. He’s like, I don’t know, a kindred spirit.”
“You do work at a pizza place,” Steve nodded seriously.
“How is that correlated at all?” Jonathan asked.
“Because pizza and lasagna are both Italian?” Eddie suggested.
“Actually,” Steve piped up, changing the subject again, “Lasagna is a Greek dish, technically. We might not know who first made it, but there’s like a common noddle in Ancient Greece called a laganon, so it’s completely plausible that it’s a Greek dish.”
“Steve,” Eddie said, after a long moment, “I don’t know how much my heart can take of you needing out on us.”
“Oh shut up,” Steve huffed.

Now that I'm rewatching TMNT 2012 and also remembering s4 episodes...
Yeah, the entire series takes place over the span of a year (roughly).
When the turtles travelled back in time ~6 months to stop the triceratons, and near the middle(?) of their journey we have the Trans-Dimensional Turtles episode, the 1987 and 2012 crossover. The episode ends with them returning to their own dimensions, and the 87 turtles fighting off a Dimension X worm and a 2012 Tiger Claw (that the worm ate)... aka the 87 cameo scene that appeared during the season 2 episode "Wormquake."
Karai is also 1 year older than the turtles, and in the season 3 episode Turtles in Time, they travelled 16 years into the past and saw the falling out between Oroku Saki, Hamato Yoshi, and met Tang Shen and baby Miwa. 16 years. They were still 15 in season 3. So the first 3 seasons took place within a time frame less than or equal to 6 months, since we know it was more than 3 because that was how long Leo was comatosed post-Kraang invasion.
And there is few month time skip before the season 4 episode Requiem; because Splinter got injured in a previous episode and in the next, Leo commented that it's been a few months since his father's injury and is worried about how well it's healing. I'm thinking it's 2-3 months, since that's what "few" usually refers to, with 4 being the highest number that can be associated with the word "few."
At most, the turtles are 16 years old when the series ends.

Hello, again :D
I recently saw an add-on for DnD that included guides on a bunch of domestic activities, such as buying a house or store, getting married and having a family. I really liked the idea of a game where you still go on adventures but with that element of domesticity. I guess my question was, can you think of any ttrpgs (or add-ons) that include domestic pursuits within an adventure game?
THEME: Domestic Games
Hello there! I've got a few games for you to check out that might give you what you're looking for!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Merchants and Monsters, by Andie Sanade.
In a world of magic, monsters, and brave intrepid adventurers, you are a merchant! An ordinary honest, as far as everyone knows, merchant. Life’s hard out there for the Non-Perilous Crowd, but you live in this world just as much as any sellsword or sorcerer. So grab your wares, straighten your clothes, and open up shop because you’re gonna make it big or die trying!
Merchants and Monsters is a roleplaying game that can be played by 2 or more people and uses a set of the following dice: 4-sided, 6-sided, 8-sided, 10-sided, 12-sided, and 20-sided.
This is a stand-alone game that you could probably also insert into another fantasy game of your choice! Because other players have the option of roleplaying customers, they could potentially embody their own characters going shopping, or perhaps this game happens after a long campaign, and you want to role-play a retired character doing their best to make a sale! While much of the art in this book indicates a fantasy world, there’s nothing stopping you from turning those gold pieces into credits, bits of salvage, or whatever currency you use in your game.
MELWAFF - My Exciting Life with a Fantasy Foreigner!, by Julian Kay.
They came from another world, but it's not an invasion, it's an immigration.
Dragons, devils, and druids live among us, just trying to get by. Holy swords are put to use chopping carrots instead of slicing skeletons. The Mystery Integration Bureau oversees the the newcomers' introduction to modern Earth society, while ordinary people acclimate to the strangers. And not everything is going to go smoothly... where does a witch park her walking hut? What's it like having an unicorn for a roommate?
MELWAFF: My Exciting Life With a Fantasy Foreigner is a tabletop storytelling RPG dramedy where everyday people meet fantasy folk and anime-styled hijinks result. Play an Earth native, a fantasy "newcomer", or a M.I.B. agent and tell a story of what happens when the magical and bombastic meets the modern world. Seek your dreams either mystical or mundane, as your friends join in with shenanigans. Enjoy legitimate surprise mechanics as the "Fate Deck" introduces new twists and hopes throughout every episode of play!
This game uses a Tarot Deck, split into three groups, used to establish connections, determine who will become the central character of an episode, introduce twists, and more. Players will take turns occupying the spotlight over a number of episodes, attempting to achieve goals such as getting a job, throwing a party, hiding a pet monster from the landlord, etc.
If you want to combine this game with others, you might bring characters from past games into this world as inter-dimensional travellers struggling to make sense of a modern world. This is a great option if your friends have favourite characters from a bunch of different games! The game itself a beautiful mix of the fantastic and the mundane, and I heavily recommend that you go and check it out!
Lesbians Built This Farm, by che.
LESBIANS BUILT THIS FARM is a gmless table top role-playing game about queer joy and resistance for 2-4 players,  written by che for the TRANS JOY JAM.
this is a game about the places we build and the things we need to build them. it uses a simple two-part system which ties a joyful "no dice no masters"-style homelife to the grueling game of odds and effort that is ""being queer in the work place.""
this pdf contains all the rules you need to play this game, including four playbooks. if you'd like, any of the playbooks from stargazersasha's girlfriend of my girlfriend is my friend should also be (mostly) compatible.
This game uses inspiration from Belonging Outside Belonging in that it sets up moves for each playbook that your characters can always do. There are two phases of play. The first is a home phase that allows you to cultivate the home you’ve always wanted. The second is a work phase that uses a deck of cards and d10s to determine what kind of day you had at work, and how much stress it gives you. As you play, you will check boxes attached to your character sheet - fill all of them and you get to decide how your character grows into themself.
If you want to combine this game with a game that carries more adventure and excitement, you might be able to do that with Thirsty Sword Lesbians! I'd recommend picking a playbook from each and adjusting the jobs from Lesbians Built This Farm to match the kinds of jobs your characters might have in-universe. Perhaps those jobs are things your characters pick up in between adventures, perhaps this game works as a prequel to something bigger, or maybe your Thirsty Sword Lesbian campaign happens on in-universe weekends!
The best part is that both of these games are available in the TTRPGs for Trans Rights in Florida bundle, so you can get both of them (and many many more) for only $5! Both games can be used for a multitude of genres so the possibilities are endless!
Games I’ve recommended in the past
(All sci-fi, to make up for the lack of it above!)
Xenopolitan, by Willy Elektrix.
The Long Shift, by Caro Asercion.
Poutine: Deep Dish Nine, by The Kinematic Cafe.

HI I WAS ALSO TALKING ABOUT YOUR OTHER FEMALE CHARACTERS TOO!!! LIKE ALICE, DOROTHY,CARMILLA AND LAURA
Can you plz tell me some random facts about them too I love women ❤️❤️❤️
oh gosh I don't know where to begin Alice, Dorothy and Wendy are their own group devoted to studying trans-dimensional travel. They are the ones who figure out for the crew that Hell is a dimension that can be traversed. Alice is a mycologist who's mushrooms provide the basis for Hyde's serums. She's one of his oldest friends and his chief supplier. Even in middle age she continues to collect portals to other worlds, like her looking glass, Dorothy's silver shoes and Wendy's star map. She has a love for exploration and of the three women loves treasure hunting the most. Dorothy primarily lives in Oz at this point in the AU, after the deaths of Aunt Em and Uncle Henry she moved there full time to live as a companion to Ozma and took on the role of the new Witch of the West. She lost her right arm in battle and had a new one crafted from tin. Wendy is the youngest in appearance, having had her aging process halted during her stay in neverland, she has taken over the jolly roger and uses it to bring lost children back to their families and out of the grasp of Peter Pan.
Carmilla and Laura- Carmilla turned Laura as a result of her vampire curse. You are in no greater danger than when a vampire loves you and Carmilla fell in love with Laura, in the end she couldn't stop her self from preying on her. For vampires, every lust, desire and want becomes irrevocably tied to their hunger for the blood of the one they desire. Laura is conflicted about Carmilla, being in love with her while also holding resentment for what she did. Their relationship is complex and bitter sweet.
