#a better question might be what laws do my ocs actually follow

Question for the owner of this blog: I noticed you seem to ship Nami and Law, and I’m NOT judging you for that, but I am curious about the reason why and what makes you think they would fall for each other so hard. They don’t seem to be even remotely interested in each other that way, from what I’ve seen. At least not in canon. But you do you, I guess 🤷🏻‍♂️ lol
First off, One piece isn't meant to be openly shippy, with the acceptation of a few characters that are obsessed with others (see: Boa Hancock to Luffy) and the active canon couples (see: Bege and Chiffon) they aren't seen actively talking a lot, but there's a number of things that suggest they have a deep understanding of one another.
The short answer: This is an RP blog and the other players I'm shipping it also want to play it or it wouldn't be on this blog. The "I'm not judging" but then the "you do you" at the end really does actually sound judgey so maybe check your tone if you're not intending to come off that way.
I will not be judged on roleplay of all things where it allows characters to interact in ways that might never happen canonically. It takes two to tango, and if you haven't noticed I'm not shipping LawNa by myself over here.
At the end of the day I am a multi-shipper and outside of a select few characters I'm p open to ship Nami with about anyone (canon, au, cross-canon, OC's, etc).
The longer answer: I've reblogged several things in ships and my Nami/Law tag that highlight better than I could without taking 20 hours to gather screenshots and write a whole dissertation why I ship it. If you're interested in more, check out the following
Star sign compatibility
The Sails of LawNa have Unfurled
LawNa spot the Similarity
Why Ikkaku Ships LawNa Ted Talk *If you read nothing else, read this. The lovely @ikkaku-of-heart hit every nail on the head here why they would work together.
If you're into fanfiction, I've also explained in depth why I ship it and the chemistry I would think they could potentially have together in my own fanfiction. Hop on over to my main blog and slip into my AO3 if you want my own dirty hot take version of why I love them.
That said, if anyone wants to ask about my ships in a nicer way I would gladly gush at length over any number of them. I have a large number of ships not even including Nami that I will also gush over (ask me about Frobin, I dare you).

Alright, I finally got around to doing this, so here’s my Great Ace Attorney oc, Engel Karma, the ancestor of the von Karmas and the first of them to go into prosecuting
The 1st one is the one I did this morning, and the 2nd is the original I made
(More info under the cut)
Oh right, note about Engel’s gender, so basically when making the character, I was unsure what gender to make them, so I made up this thing where no one in universe knew his gender either, and he wouldn’t say, so they just assumed their gender, and it’s different for each character (for example, van Zieks thinks Engel is male, while Kazuma thinks she’s female), and it’s never actually addressed in universe. I asked my friend what I should do and they said just keep it as is, so yeah. Engel’s gender is whatever you want it to be. For the sake of consistency, I’ll just use he/him for now
Oh yeah, I remember one thing that made their gender a question was the fact that Engel has an unusually high voice, even for his age
He was based on this piece of van Zieks concept art I found
Tumblr media
So backstory time, his father was the original “Karma”, aka the family who took on the name of Karuma. He was a street rat back in Germany who would always steal to get what he wants/needs, but eventually he ticked off a few too many people and he had to escape onto a ship leaving Germany, which ended up going to Japan. There he started to go back to his habits, until he ended up meeting the Asogi clan (he might have stolen from them, or he just encountered them, I’m not sure) and they ended up taking him in as a student, and his experience with them was so profound that he wanted to change his ways and atone for his past mistakes, and to symbolize his change and to honor the people responsible for this new outlook, he took the name of their clan’s sword as a family name, and he went back to Germany to start a new life there. He was able to make a decent living back in Germany and settled down to start a family, though his past as a thief was still known
So years later, Engel grows up on his father’s philosophies and desire to pursue justice, and decided the best way to do this was to become a prosecutor. Unfortunately, due to his father’s previous reputation, not to mention his own sort of poor status, as well as his age, he was unable to get anyone to take him on as an apprentice. (Apparently in Germany you have to study under a lawyer for 2 years before you can take the bar exam. I know Ace Attorney doesn’t necessarily follow actual law but I just wanted to use it) So, hearing of the prosecutors in England, he decides to head over there to find someone to study under
He’d show up sometime after DGS 2, and basically how everyone meets him is just him breaking into the High Prosecutor’s Office, demanding for someone to take him on in German. They’re basically like “who’s this weird German child??”
Now, in terms of his language skills, he speaks very poor English. Basically he’s at the level of a high school student who took a year or two of a foreign language, so he can somewhat survive, but he will most likely switch back to German. He gets better over time. However, as everyone later discovers, he shockingly speaks great Japanese. I also like to think van Zieks knows some Japanese, so I think it’d be funny if between Kazuma, van Zieks and Engel, the language they use to communicate is Japanese.
He eventually gets taken under the wing of van Zieks and Kazuma, and once he becomes an official prosecutor he looks more like that concept art. He becomes very successful back in Germany, reaching a very high societal status, and as a nod to van Zieks, he adds “von” to his surname.
Oh yeah, in terms of his place in the family, I’d say he’s Manfred’s grandparent
So yeah, I think that’s everything

If you *were* isekai-ed into Twisted Wonderland, what else would you do differently? (btw I think it’s hilarious but also sort of sad that you’d ignore malmal like that? 😂)
[Referencing this post!]
Tumblr media
*rubs hands together*
Some disclaimers before I begin:
1) I will be assuming no prior knowledge of Twisted Wonderland when I am isekai’d (so I won’t know anything about the world, the characters, how their magic works, etc.).
2) I will be writing the things I would personally want to do and say; I am a separate entity from my OC, Raven Crowley, and whatever I write below the cut is not indicative of what she would do and say.
3) Some of the things I’d do/say would drastically alter the events of the main story; for the sake of argument, just assume that the main story progresses as normal despite my actions realistically leading to drastically different consequences or damaging my reputation with certain characters.
4) These are just the immediate things that come to mind, I might have missed some things I’d do differently because I didn’t comb through every scene of every chapter before writing.
Okay, now it’s time to turn Twisted Wonderland’s main story upside down 😷
***Main story spoilers below the cut!***
“If you’re not going to entertain me, then what good are you?” — me as Yuu, probably
Firstly, I’d be extremely protective of Grim right from the get-go, and I would spoil him to death. I’ve always wanted a pet cat, and a sassy talking one is even better than a regular cat 😂 As soon as I pop out of the coffin, I’d chase after Grim like Alice chased the White Rabbit into Wonderland (forget following Crowley to the ceremony, I’d go after Grim and ignore the headmaster). I’d also aggressively shove Riddle and Azul aside at the entrance ceremony to grab Grim for myself (probably shouting something like “MY kitty!! Everyone BACK OFF, he’s MINE!!” while cradling Grim with my body). After that point in time, I’m giving him all the head pats and canned tuna he wants (he’ll probably grow round because of it) 😌 You know how people baby-talk to infants? That’s me with Grim. I’ll “uwu” to him and call him “Grimmu” instead of Grim while smushing his cheeks. He can call me a minion all he wants, I fully support it ❤️ I’m also never EVER letting that sucker out of my sight, I’d ferry Grim everywhere tucked under my arm and I’d use him as a cat-shaped flamethrower for self-defense.
I wouldn’t be scared of the Ramshackle Ghosts during our first meeting. If anything, I’d just be fascinated that ghosts exist at all??? I’d stand there and ask them a billion questions about how ghosts “work”, since they’re technically dead and defy all laws of how science classifies creatures as “living”. Yeah, I know magic is a thing in this world, but ghosts transcend death itself. How could I NOT want to know about them? (Then I’ll go and brag to everyone about my cool ghost uncle room mates 🎵)
I’d eagerly volunteer to help Crowley around NRC instead of Crowley volun-telling me to do it. I hate hate HATE seeing unfinished tasks, especially when I know that one small thing being left undone can disrupt the entire system (aka the school). Even if they’re not MY personal responsibility, I’ll feel compelled to help complete them anyway just to see them done. If Crowley actually tries to guilt trip me into do something (like the whole “woe is me” act), there’s a much higher chance that I’ll resist doing it because I hate it. Just come out and outright tell me what you want so I can turn it down faster without the lingering bad taste in my mouth from guilt, Crowley 😊
I wouldn’t treat Ace and Deuce like my friends or classmates, but as annoying little brothers that I constantly need to nag and supervise. This especially goes for Ace, whom I see as the brattier of the duo. I won’t stand for him shit talking my cat (he can shit talk ME all he likes, but if he insults Grim, the kiddie gloves are coming OFF). Deuce gets more leniency, but I’d still tug on his ear and tell him to go study or something. I will put them in child leashes. I’M NOT AFRAID TO DO IT.
It’s not very clear what Yuu does during in-game battles, but personally I’d just chill in the back while shouting orders at Ace, Deuce, and Grim. I’m not going to count this one as a change, since I think the game implies that’s what Yuu is doing via the player choosing which characters and spells to deploy every turn, BUT I will say that sometimes I’ll just sit in the back with snacks and watch people fight like it’s a free movie or something 🍿
Since I’m so protective of my favorite child (Grim), there’s no way I’d let him eat any OB stones. I’d smack the OB stone out of his paw, or pap him on his butt until he spits it up. Eating rocks will mess with his digestive system, and I’m not about to have that.
I wouldn’t even use the Ghost Camera to take pictures of people. I’d use it to take pictures of things I think are super dumb or super interesting. You’ll get a bajjllion pictures of food or nature before you find a picture of a real fleshy human being on my camera.
When it comes to taking classes and being involved on campus, I’d be a very active student. Even if Grim is the one responsible for any classes that involve magic, you’ll probably find me lurking in the background taking notes (on Grim, on the class materials, on other students, etc). I’d want to learn as much about this world, the people in it, and how everything works, and I’d want to document it ALL. Basically, I’d be Rook Lite—
I would pick a fight with every student I come across when possible (like, I would purposefully annoy/taunt them in hopes of getting them to snap and throw some magic at me). Why? Because it would be fun, that’s why. I’M HERE FOR A GOOD TIME, NOT A LONG TIME. When will I get the chance to be beaten up by magic in my original world, huh? If I’m going to experience living in a place with magic, then I want to experience as much of that magic as possible, and that INCLUDES getting my ass handed to me multiple times. Healing magic exists too, so I can even experience how THAT feels ❤️
I know my personality seems to be all over the place from the bullet points I’ve written so far, but I think I’d have a pretty well-established personality compared to Yuu: someone who’s pretty serious, dry, and sarcastic, prioritizing work and gathering knowledge above all else. However, I’m willing to take risks if it means I get to experience something new, fun, or interesting (think “curiosity killed the cat”). When it comes to dealing with people, it’s VERY clear who my favorites are (*coughsmytalkingcatcoughs*). I act like a jaded, overworked, and unimpressed mom to everyone else, straight faced and trapped in perpetual disappointment.
My personal goal wouldn’t be to get back home or to keep Ace and Deuce out of trouble, it would be to keep myself amused. I get bored extremely easily, and being thrust into another world with all these new factors is just a recipe for disaster. I’d honestly make for a terrible classical heroine, because my priority would be “what would be the most entertaining way to spend the day” instead of “how to save the day”. I’d hesitate to help someone if them struggling is the more entertaining option for me to watch unfold. In a way, I’d be just as shitty as the NRC students themselves 😂
Honestly though??? I’m kind of distrustful of others and unwilling to do group work due to bad experiences I’ve had in the past. I’m also pretty proud, so I would be super hesitant to accept help from anyone; I’m more likely to think of it as an act of pity or something negative rather than as kindness. I’m literally a poster child for Not Being Amicable (TM) and Independence over Cooperation, which is probably the opposite of what Crowley wants. I guess this will all be one massive learning experience for me too??
Forget Ace calling Riddle out for his bullshit, I’ll do it first. My patience would be wearing thin by the time Riddle rejects the apology tart (and besides, wasting food and Grim’s cute new ribbon are such sins 😤). I’d tell Riddle that he’s being childishly unreasonable and acting like a spoiled brat, no sugar coating at all. This would no doubt accelerate his OB, maybe even bring on an early OB, but like???? I’m not going to just stand there and let him throw a tantrum over something so small, that’s ridiculous (keep in mind that I have NO idea about his past, and even if I did, that still doesn’t justify any of the awful things he did). The same goes for most of the OB boys; I might as well call them out and give them a piece of my mind (once I get fed up with each of them) since I have little to lose compared to the students of each dorm. What are the OB boys gonna do, fight me? MAYBE THAT’S WHAT I WANTED ALL ALONG, EVER THOUGHT OF THAT? Do it, you cowards.
My only incentive in trying to solve the injured students mystery is just because it would be fun for me. I’d seriously commit to the bid, too—get dressed in a detective outfit, or pretend to be an ace attorney investigating the crime scene and interviewing witnesses... Heartslabyul and Grim can stare at me if they want or complain about how much time I’m wasting, but I’ll be having the time of my life 😌
Every time I spot J word or Rook, I’d curl up into a useless uncontrollably sobbing ball on the ground. If I have to engage with them or interact with them, I’ll just straight up refuse to make eye contact or shout something really normal like “step on me” 😷 or ask them to mug me in a sketchy back alley and bleed my wallet dry while they’re at it, and hey I’m free 24/7 if they need a human-sized footstool or something an—
I become a crazy cat lady by adopting Chenya and Cheka into my cat family. (Leona is perma-banned.)
I’ll come out and say it: I wouldn’t want to help those anemone’d students in the first place. It’s their own faults that they weren’t willing to put forth their own effort to pass the exams and tried to take the easy way out (and besides, it’s much more amusing to watch them suffer through the consequences of their actions than be freed of them). I’d even be disappointed in Grim for this 😔 but I guess I’d reluctantly stick my neck out once I saw how shittily Grim was being treated as Octavinelle’s new dish rag.
I’m overly cautious, so I’d try to negotiate the terms of the agreement with Azul. (I’d probably only want Grim’s freedom and maybe J word as my butler or something). I wouldn’t feasibly be able to retrieve that photo he wanted anyway, since I can’t swim (which is KIND OF a requirement if you’re going to be underwater).
If I somehow still had to go underwater (and Azul still sent the twins to interfere), I think just SEEING their true forms would make me lose my mind because HELLO???? WHY ARE THERE SUDDENLY CYAN EEL ABS??? 😂 IS THIS REAL LIFE?????? They wouldn’t even need to fight me, I’d break down on the spot clutching my stomach and screaming into the water.
I fold like a piece of origami paper and immediately cave to whatever J word asks of me—
I sob at J word’s feet and thank him for evicting me and Grim from Ramshackle—
As I mentioned in the referenced post, I wouldn’t befriend Malleus. In fact, I’d probably think he’s some weirdo that hangs around on my property at weird hours of the night despite me yelling at him to get off of my lawn 😤 You bet I’d phone up Crowley or campus security or SOMEONE to remove the horned stranger from the premises. And honestly? (This may sound pretty mean since TWST tries to present Malleus as lonely and misunderstood, but please remember that I, as “Yuu”, don’t know that going in; we only know this information because of our perspective as the PLAYER, not as the actual isekai’d individual.) Once I start hearing rumors of this “Malleus” person, there’s no way I wouldn’t put two and two together and adopt the same general opinion as most of NRC—“Malleus is dangerous, he is a monster and he should be feared, etc.” If I had a lot of courage one particular day, maybe I’d approach him and ask him to strike me down with his lighting just so I know what it feels like to be vaporized to ashes, but other than that?? It’s safer for me to assume Malleus is dangerous based on his magical capabilities alone, because this is the smartest choice for my survivability. Yeah, I want to fight everyone, but I also need to pick and choose my battles strategically, because if Malleus ends up doing major damage, then I won’t be able to fight everyone ELSE in the cast.
Jamil doesn’t need to Snake Whisper me to convince me to come to Scarabia during winter break, I’ll literally accept any excuse to absorb free food and see what the dorm is like🎵
I’d probably die in the desert if Jamil drags me along for those training sessions/parades, because I cannot deal with hot, sunny weather...
I wouldn’t care all that much during the segment where Jamil’s keeping me locked up in a room?? Like, I’d be mildly concerned, but the situation’s pretty interesting~ It’s like being held hostage and an escape room all in one. I’d still definitely try to get out, but I’d be way less worried than Yuu is shown to be in the game.
I laugh at how silly Jamil’s OB facial hair is and get my ass kicked for it—
I’d fistfight Vil to include Grim as the 8th member of the VDC group and as the c e n t e r 😤 I would also fistfight Ruggie to get Grim’s deluxe menchi katsu sandwich for him because Grimmu deserves nothing less than the best ✨
I would resist the VDC group using Ramshackle as their base of operations for training. I do NOT like the idea of 7 random boys (most of which I barely know) invading my living space 😔 and the lack of privacy disturbs me............... If they somehow still yoink Ramshackle for their training, I’ll just pad around in the background in my fluffy house slippers, sheet mask, and pajamas while staring at them in disappointment from a safe distance away.
I betray NRC to squeal about how cute Neige and the dwarves are, especially Timmy ❤️—
I’m not sitting around and waiting to save Grimmu from STYX 😤 I’m immediately formulating a plan, grabbing supplies, and recruiting a rescue squad because NO ONE TOUCHES MY CAT; I am closing this post as I opened it, with CATS—

Pairing: Charlie McAvoy x female!OC
Summary: A little sneak peek into the future of charlie and nellie from i’m so glad to know as they attend the 2026 Olympics
Word Count: 4,682
A/N: Just the most self-indulgent little fluff I could come up with because I love writing them.
Warnings: none! the smallest hint of adult content but that’s about it.
“This is so fucking cool – did you ever actually tell me how cool it was to be at the Olympics?” Charlie was bouncing along the streets of Milan and swinging Eleanora’s hand as they went, a couple of other Team USA players behind them as they used the off day to do the touristy things they hadn’t yet been able to do during the first round of games.
“You’ve done plenty of World’s before, it’s almost the same.”
“It absolutely is not.” He argued back, glancing down and smirking at the little scowl on her face. He ignored the groans of a couple from the guys at the fact they were about to start bickering. It wasn’t their fault; he didn’t invite the idiots to come with them.
“You’re just excited because you’re staying in the Village and there are a bunch of girls there too – you don’t get that at World’s.”
“Yeah, I’m there for the girls.” He rolled his eyes and squeezed her hand before leaning over to kiss the top of her head.
The team was housed on their own floor in the dedicated USA building and it was like being back on a road trip in Peewees. They’d cruised through the round-robin, winning every game in their group and were heading into the elimination games. A lot of the guys had played together for years through development camps and national teams and they felt good about their chances.
They’d been wandering the streets of Milan, seeing as much of the sites as they could since all they’d seen were the inside of rinks. While Charlie had wanted to spend it just with Eleanora, some of the guys had caught him in the lobby with her on their way back from breakfast and insisted on joining them. She had pretty much become their team mascot: at every game, made a new sign for each and chatted with all the families happily. It made something in him burst in pride at the sight of her fitting so seamlessly into his life now. It hadn’t been an easy road to get there.
“Can you two not?” one of the Hughes brothers interrupted.
“Yeah, let’s stop this before it really gets rolling.” Matthew Tkachuk cut in, sweeping past Charlie with a smirk as he hit his shoulder and made his way across the square towards the Duomo. A few of the other guys sped passed them, running around the square and changing pigeons.
“And for a former Olympian, could you walk any slower?” Auston Matthews teased as he came right up close behind them.
Annoyed, Charlie shoved his teammate away just as Eleanora pinched his side. “I’m sorry, put some respect on the only gold medalist in this little crew right now. Also, I’m six months pregnant, dick head – you try carrying a bowling ball around your middle on these cobblestone ass streets.”
“Technically, a McAvoy has a gold medal – shouldn’t have changed your last name, babe.” Auston grinned, wrapping an arm around her shoulders but making sure to gently guide her as they walked around the various tourists and other athletes who had done the same thing they did.
“Can you get the fuck away from my wife?” Charlie groaned, checking Auston away so he could pull Eleanora into his side.
The rest of the guys walked ahead, leaving the two of them alone. Charlie smiled down at the way Eleanora was basking in the bright, cold air, her cheeks flushed and nose a little pink. There was a visible glow around her. He’d always thought it was bullshit when they said pregnant woman glowed but since the second she’d taken the test, there was a light happy aura around her. Walking with her tucked into him like she was slowed them down but Charlie liked making sure Eleanora was okay, to the point that she might kill him at some point if he asked her again how she was feeling.
“How are you – ”
“Don’t you dare ask how I feel right now, Charlie McAvoy.”
He pouted down at her. “It’s a valid question, they keep you scheduled so late for some of the media shit.”
“It’s called my job, babe.” She hip checked him gently. She’d stayed involved in the figure skating community and this year they’d invited her to provide commentary for the ladies’ singles. Turns out she was incredibly personable in front of the cameras and enjoyed talking to the young skaters. “I’m just happy none of your games conflict with the skating. I don’t think they’d love me ‘calling out sick’ only to have me show up on TV on the glass yelling at you to play better.”
“Excuse you, I have the most minutes played and highest rating.”
“Yes, baby – you’re very highly rated.” She snuggled into his side, and he laughed when she slid her hand into his back pocket and squeezed his ass.
The pair of them walked slowly around the square, laughing at the guys as they ran around. A few of Team Canada showed up along with a few of the Czech players. Since most of the teams were made up of NHLers, all the teams were friendly off-ice and trying to control them was like corralling kids at their first away tournament. A few fans stopped them as they went but most of them were interested in getting pictures with Eleanora rather than any of the guys, something the team loved to tease Charlie about. Joke was on them, he couldn’t be more proud to watch the way people adored her.
“How’s my boy doing?” he changed tactics as a group of young girls walked away after spending five minutes taking pictures with her and asking what it was like to win gold.
“I think he wants pizza and pasta.”
“Pizza and pasta? Not or?”
“You’re really gonna ask how I feel then judge your pregnant wife for wanting all the food?” the glare she shot him was enough to have him throwing his hands up in defense.
He leaned down to kiss her but she dodged him. “No way, bud – find me food then you can kiss me.”
“In my defense, I asked what my son wants to eat – you’re incidental to me checking up on him.”
“Do you want to die? Is that your plan? You want Team USA hockey to lose the gold because their captain was murdered by his pregnant wife?”
“Why’s Goldie threatening your life?” Jake popped up behind them, scaring the shit out of Charlie while Eleanora had seen him coming.
“He’s judging how much I want to eat.”
“Well, come on my fellow sewer rat – if Chuckie won’t love you right, I will.”
Jake offered her his hand and she took it, tossing a teasing smile behind her as the two of them started towards one of the side streets to find a suitable restaurant leaving Charlie to scurry after them.
--- ---
Eleanora chewed distractedly on her cuticle, staring at the clean sheet of ice waiting for the guys to step on for warmups. As she had for every single game, she was standing on the glass at the corner where her and his family had sat for the entirety of the tournament. The jersey of Charlie’s she had on barely fit over her belly and the maternity leggings made her feel like a sausage. Bouncing on the balls of her feet anxiously, she was as nervous as she’d been for her own gold medal skate.
“How’re you feeling?” a voice interrupted her nervous thoughts and she glanced over to see her father-in-law sliding into the seat next to her. After the first win, they’d sat in the same order they’d been in for every other game that followed. While Charlie wasn’t overly superstitious, Eleanora was and there’d been half a dozen little rituals she’d come up with for this Olympics.
“Jesus, your son ask you to ask me that?” she teased back at Charlie Sr. She rubbed her belly slightly and tried not to wince at the pain in her back. “Pretty sure this asshole is sitting right on my sciatic nerve.”
“Can you not call my first grandson an asshole?” Charlie’s mom appeared on her other side, looping her arm through hers. “But seriously, you alright?”
“No pain I haven’t dealt with before but this kid is already putting me through the wringer. I have to do this for 3 more months?”
Mrs. McAvoy frowned sympathetically and rubbed her arm softly. “Sorry, Ellie but yes. It’ll be worth it though.”
Just as she spoke, the guys stepped out and Eleanora zeroed in on Charlie leading the way, pushing the pucks off the edge of the bench and onto the ice.
“I can’t believe this – my son is going to be an Olympic medalist no matter what.” His mom said, sniffling slightly as she watched them start skating.
“We want gold, Jen – right, kid?” Senior nudged her in the side.
Eleanora smiled slightly. “I just want him to do the best he can.”
“Bullshit, you’re more competitive than he is. I saw you cursing him out last game for - and I quote - ‘a bullshit lazy turnover’.” Holly added as she joined the conversation, pushing her mom out of the seat next to Eleanora so she could keep the right lineup.
They all laughed while she just shrugged. “No one plays for second place...although I do kinda like being the only gold medalist. It’s how I get him to do things for me when I think I deserve them.”
The noise in the arena started to swell as the Canadians took the ice and Eleanora felt the familiar buzz and thrill of the pressure building. She hadn’t been able to see Charlie this morning, only getting a quick FaceTime as she’d been wrapping up interviews with some of the figure skaters who were getting ready for their final performance the following day.
“How was he this morning?”
Kayla shrugged. “Quiet. He missed you.”
She frowned, cursing herself for not having been there. It was their routine for the last few years, she was always the last person to see him before he went into the locker room for a big game. It felt like a bad omen that she’d missed giving him a last kiss before the biggest game of his career.
But just then Charlie skated by them for the first time, helmet off and his hair flowing behind him. He tapped the glass as he went by but kept skating in loops. After a couple laps and drills, he returned to the corner and stopped in front of her.
She couldn’t hear him over the crowd but he was pointing at her and gesturing halfway across the rink to where there was an opening in the boards. She followed where he was pointing to see one of the arena staff standing by the entrance to the locker rooms and she got the hint, squeezing through the seats as fast she could. The belly didn’t exactly help her move quickly or the people that kept trying to stop her.
He was already waiting for her by the time she reached the space, his gloves off and resting on the side. He reached out for her and she stepped eagerly towards him. On skates he was so much taller than her that she had to stand on tip toe just to wrap her arms around his neck. She was cognizant of the eyes of those in the area on them and she was sure there were cameras zooming in too.
“I couldn’t play the biggest game of my life without getting my good luck kiss.”
The stares and camera clicks faded away as she stared up at him. Knowing how the media was obsessed with “Their Story”, this was bound to be everywhere in no time. It’s why they liked their moment to be private before a game but right now, Eleanora couldn’t quite care because all she wanted was Charlie to win.
Gently, he brushed her stomach and just as he did, the baby gave a hard kick. Charlie grinned, leaning down to press his lips firmly to hers and she smiled into the kiss. “I think someone’s telling you he wants you to win.”
“I plan on winning it for his momma, gotta impress her.” He smirked, his face still inches from hers.
“I love you, baby – so fucking much.” She pressed one final kiss to his lips. “I’m not gonna tell you just making it to the gold medal game is an achievement – even though it is. You know what you need to do. Go fucking win it.”
“I shoulda had you do the pump-up speech for the boys.” He kissed her nose quickly before pulling back and grabbing his gloves to return to warmups. “I love you, babe – see you on the ice after.”
She watched him skate away, her palm flat against her belly and she felt another strong kick. Rubbing her stomach she looked down at the USA stretched across her front, smiling softly as she whispered to herself.
“Don’t worry, little man – daddy’s gonna win it for us.”
--- ---
The second period started with the game tied at two. Charlie had an assist and had already spent almost twelve minutes on the ice. Despite most of the off-ice friendships and even teammates who were playing against each other it was getting chippy. They all clearly wanted it and weren’t holding back. Tkachuk had managed to draw three penalties while only going to the box once himself.
Eleanora felt like she was going to lose her voice the amount she’d been screaming throughout the game. It seemed like part of Team Canada’s game strategy was to go after Charlie as much as possible. They’d been hitting him hard and there’d been one particularly nasty penalty he drew when Chabot leveled him with a late hit. Charlie had been slow to get up from that one but within the first thirty seconds of the powerplay, he’d put a pass right on Auston’s tape for the tying goal.
There had always been something both exhilarating and nerve-wracking about watching Charlie play. When he was on the ice, she only watched him, not even noticing where the puck was or what action was happening unless he was involved.
It was partially how she was able to react a second before the rest of the rink when she saw Chabot coming from behind him, hitting him hard and sending Charlie headfirst into the boards. He was splayed out flat on the ice while his teammates immediately rushed to his defense, Auston and Tkachuk jumping Chabot before Auston was pulled away by Dougie Hamilton. Eleanora felt like climbing over the glass to get to him and Kayla was gripping her arm tightly.
“Get up. Get up. Get up, Junior.” His dad was begging while Eleanora just kept staring in horror.
After what felt like hours but was probably only a minute, he slowly tucked his legs up under him and managed to get to a kneeling position just as the team doctor reached him. He was clearly still dazed, holding one hand on his helmet as he slowly got up. Gaudreau had come over and was kneeling next to him, offering to help him up but Charlie waved him off.
The arena applauded as he stood up, but Eleanora couldn’t feel the relief everyone else did as she watched them lead Charlie to the locker room.
“He’s okay. He got up on his own. They just have to check him out for protocol. He’s okay.” Kayla was chanting and all Eleanora wanted to do was rush to the locker room. Instead of watching the rest of the game, she stared at the locker room entrance, praying Charlie would return to the bench.
They ended the second period down by one and only during the intermission did she let herself pull her phone out to find the replay of the hit. They all huddled around together watching intently, only slightly reassured that Charlie had gotten up on his own and made his way quickly down the tunnel without support. It felt like time was moving in slow motion as the ice was cleaned. Finally, the lights dimmed again and the players started back out on the ice.
It felt like a weight was lifted when she saw Charlie hop out last, doing quick laps to warm back up as he shook his legs out. As he went by them, he tapped the glass and Eleanora felt like she was going to cry just from the quick wink he gave her.
“Thank god.” His mom sighed a breath and Eleanora felt lightheaded as she rubbed her stomach aimlessly. The baby had been active all game, bouncing around and kicking more than usual. It’s like he could sense what was happening around them.
The third period wasn’t any less stressful, Team Canada was clearly content to play defense while Team USA threw everything at them but couldn’t seem to find the back of the net. But then in the last 27 seconds of the game, Charlie caught a pass from Quinn Hughes and buried it in the top corner of the net to tie the game. The roar of the arena felt deafening as they all jumped up and down, screaming happily while the players mobbed their captain. The crowd clearly expected overtime, neither team wanting to give one up in the remaining seconds of the game.
But then Conor McDavid of all people misplayed the puck in the neutral zone and it landed on Jack Eichel’s stick who shot down the ice on a breakaway with only 7 seconds to go, shifting to his backhand as he slid the puck between the goalie’s legs.
If it was possible, the roof would’ve blown off the top of the arena. Team USA hadn’t won since the 1980 Miracle on Ice game and the place was shaking with excitement. USA gear and equipment was strewn across the ice like confetti while Team Canada stared on in disbelief, some kneeling together watching while others had already started to make their way towards the locker room.
People were hugging her tightly and screaming in her ear. Eleanora wasn’t even sure they were all people she knew. Charlie Sr. pulled her away from whoever was holding her and into a tight hug while the rest of the family crowded around jumping as they celebrated. She didn’t even realize she was crying until she tried to spot Charlie on the ice but her vision was blurry.
Sobbing into one hand, the other pressed tight against her stomach she felt another strong kick which only made her sob harder. It was better than her own win because she hadn’t had any true family to celebrate with besides her coaches who had become replacement parents to her. This was entirely different and felt like they’d all won it.
The celebrations continued on the ice as the McAvoys all made their way towards the same opening Eleanora had talked to Charlie before the game start. Other wives and families were already there, pulling each other into hugs, most of the moms crying happily while a few of the dads tried to fight their own tears except for Jim Hughes who was openly crying as he held his wife tightly to him.
Standing on the glass so she could watch, Eleanora scanned the sea of blue jerseys to try to find Charlie, biting her lip to try to stop crying. She was still contemplating scaling the glass but knew the guys deserved to celebrate with their team first.
Finally, her impatience grew and Eleanora, just popped the door open and started to make her way onto the ice. Once the dam broke, the rest of the families followed, ignoring the staff asking for them to stay off the ice until they had carpets laid down.
It was decidedly difficult to maneuver on the ice in sneakers and a pregnant belly but she moved as quickly and carefully as she could towards her target. Their eyes locked and Charlie broke away from the guys to get to her. When he reached her, he went right for her waist, dragging her up and off the ice as he twirled her around as she held tightly to him.
Neither of them spoke at first as Eleanora pressed kisses all over his face as he laughed until he could kiss her back. It was awkward to be held up so Charlie carefully set her down on the ice, one hand tucking protectively against her back so she wouldn’t slip and the other pressed gently on her belly as he leaned down for the sweetest kiss they’d ever shared.
“I told you I’d win it for you.” He whispered, pressing his forehead against hers.
“Not before scaring the shit out of me first.” She shot back but squeezed his waist tightly, her face landing in the sweaty material. “I’m so fucking proud of you, Teddy.”
She stared up at him, and despite the fact that he had just won the biggest game of his life, he was staring at her like they were the only two people in the world.
“This is almost as good as our wedding night.”
She gave a watery chuckle in return. “Just the wedding night not the wedding itself?”
“Eh, that was okay too.” He teased just as the rest of his family joined them. Reluctantly, she released him so he could hug his family, stepping back to give them a moment.
A few of the guys paused to hug her as they went by but mostly she just stood there watching Charlie beaming at everyone around him. The camera crews were starting to show up as the staff worked to get the carpets out and set up the podiums. Eleanora knew they wouldn’t get a private moment together for hours and she tried to melt into the background but Charlie was having none of that, snagging her hand and dragging her towards him as they started to interview him.
From her position under his arm, she stared up at him as he spoke, beaming proudly as he talked about the win and how special it was for them. She was so focused on him she didn’t realized they’d asked her a question.
“Nellie.” Charlie whispered, nudging her with a nose to the top of her head and she glanced at the reporter who was beaming at her.
“I was just asking how this compares to your own gold medal win just four years ago?” they repeated the question.
Eleanora grinned and squeezed his side tighter. “There’s no comparison.” She started, enjoying some of the frowns that followed before continuing. “What Charlie and the boys did was so beyond historic and I’m so proud to have been able to watch it happen. This team worked so hard and never gave up. I’m just thrilled I was able to share in it. Although I’m pretty pissed that I can’t win arguments anymore by saying ‘well I have a gold medal so you have to do what I say’.”
Everyone laughed in response, Charlie squeezing her side lightly.
“I’m sure you guys haven’t seen yet but the video of you two right before the game has become quite popular.” Eleanora flushed slightly as they continued. “Charlie – did you get any last minute advice?”
She pinched his side, hoping he’d lie but the smirk on his face already told her differently. “She pretty much told me that just getting to the medal game wasn’t enough and that I knew what to do. Pretty sure the exact words were ‘now go fucking win it’ and honestly, I can’t really say no to my wife so I did.”
--- ---
It was nearly three hours later by the time Eleanora and Charlie were walking into her hotel room and shutting the door so they were finally alone. They were planning on changing then meeting up with everyone to celebrate. Most of the guys’ flights weren’t for another day or two so they planned to enjoy what little remained of their Olympic break before they’d have to return to their teams for the rest of the season.
Charlie face planted onto the king-size bed. “Fuck, you’ve been sleeping on this for two weeks while I’ve been on the worst twin mattress in the world?”
Eleanora giggled, pulling her jersey off leaving on her loose t-shirt, she slipped out of her sneakers and kicked them towards the door so she could sit and join him on the bed. Despite how happy she was, she was exhausted and the pain in her back went from dull to stabbing on a dime. It took a little effort for her to climb up onto the bed and get comfy as she curled up on her side.
Charlie inched up so his nose was brushing against her swollen belly. Her hand immediately fell to his hair, running her fingers through gently and scratching his scalp. He brought his arm up so he was hugging her middle and pressed his lips against her.
“Hi, Tripp.” He whispered causing Eleanora to tug his hair gently.
“Baby, no. Even if he ends up Charlie the third, we are not calling him Tripp.”
Charlie ignored her. “Ignore mommy, I’ll make sure you get a cool nickname.”
She rolled her eyes but he kept talking. “I don’t know if you heard all that noise but now you have two parents with gold medals. We’re pretty big deals.”
“Kid was bouncing all over the place for most of the game before settling directly on my sciatic nerve so I couldn’t get comfortable.”
“Be nice to mommy, sweet boy.” He mumbled and pressed a kiss to her stomach before turning up so he could stare at her. “I think I won because of you.”
“You won because you’re an amazing hockey player and leader. You did this. Next up you can win us a Cup.” She smiled softly, stroking his hair as he crawled up so their faces were level. They lay there quietly together, staring at each other and enjoying the peace. They’d both turned their phones off, telling his family they’d see them at the restaurant that USA hockey had reserved for them. For now, they just wanted to be alone.
Carefully, Eleanora brushed Charlie’s hair off his forehead. “Your head okay? I might kill that Canadian fuck.”
Charlie laughed but cringed slightly. His head hurt more than he let on but he passed concussion protocol and had a few days off before he’d have to be back on the ice for a game.
“Are you okay? I know when you’re in pain, Nellie.”
She winced despite trying to smile as he tucked his hand under her top to lay on her bare skin, soothingly running his thumb along belly.
“Just pregnancy, or so I’m told. I need to figure out how to get him off this nerve or I’m gonna spend the flight pacing the aisles because I won’t be able to sit.”
Charlie frowned. “I hate seeing you in pain. And I’m worried you won’t want the five that I want if this one is such a pain in the ass.”
She snorted, inching forward to kiss him softly. “Let’s get through meeting this little man first then we’ll talk more, kay?”
“You’re the love of my fucking life, you know that?” he gripped her neck gently.
Smiling, she leaned forward to steal another kiss. “Lucky for you, it’s mutual. Now…I bet we could find a comfy position for you to fuck me in before we have to go to the restaurant.”
A slow smirk spread across Charlie’s face as he rolled her carefully onto her back so he could lean over her.
“I can definitely do that.”

Halloween with Alan Sharpe:
HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!!! I thought I would spread some Halloween cheer by sharing some headcanons about what spending Halloween with my Slasher OC Alan Sharpe would be like ;) You get a tad more backstory too which is always fun! I tried to keep it as gender neutral as possible save for mentions of costume dresses, and it’s mostly sfw besides for a few naughty and sexual mentions because this IS Alan we’re talking about here and he is quite the horndog sdfgfdrrghgf Hope y’all enjoy!!!
Tumblr media
If there's one holiday that Alan never missed, it's Halloween. He enjoyed it ever since he was a boy. It didn't matter that his parents said he was too old, he would just climb out of the window and meet up with his buddies. Sometimes they actually went out trick or treating. But usually there would be more tricks than treats when it came to him.
Yes, he was absolutely one of those menace kids causing havoc past midnight. The cops caught him only once though, so Alan takes that as a win. He loved the disappointed and disgusted look his parents gave when they opened the door that night. That their little boy could do something so beneath him.
Once he was out of his parents' influence and living with other outcasts and criminals or various types, he enjoyed his fair share of Halloween parties. He had always loved dressing up in outlandish get ups, and noticed that other people loved them too. Halloween hookups weren't uncommon for Alan, and he loved seeing the variety of sexy costumes. It definitely sparked his current love of roleplay.
So once Halloween comes around for the first time while you're with him, Alan gets so excited. He's already brainstorming couples costumes before you even have the chance to. Every once in a while he will come to you with ideas and a large selection of costumes.
He doesn't buy cheap costumes either. Alan goes all out ordering from actual costume places, getting only the best and highest quality. He wouldn't go anywhere dressed in a half assed cheapo costume that could barely count as pajamas with how thin they are. Don't question him when he busts out the measuring tape for you. I mean… he already knows your measurements, this is just to keep you at ease. Plus, it's better to keep updated records.
Alan favors any costume that lets him dress in very fancy clothes, as if he doesn't already do that on the regular. Vampire is always an easy one he gravitates towards, he has had a few very nice capes and more regal suits fashioned for him over the years, and he always looks so good in them. That plus a nice high quality set of fangs and he is good to go. Careful, he will absolutely bite you given the chance.
He personally has no issue with whatever you decide to wear, save for maybe any sort of cop. With his constant disputes with the law he really doesn't want to be reminded of them more than he has to. Not to mention that there are WAY more classy and sexy outfits to put you in. Even a simple Elvira or Morticia dress makes him happy, with all your curves and breasts/bare chest accentuated. Almost anything you can come up with he will be on board for, coming up with a matching costume for himself. You lead the way, he's happy to follow!
Will 100% be the corny guy acting in character the entire time, so be careful. Puns and dad jokes are abundant with him. Every single party he drags you to you'll have to deal with this and I apologize.
Alan loves decorating his space with you for the holidays, and will grab everything you need to make it special. Even if you don't go anywhere with him you can deck out the house into a spooky home! String lights everywhere, spiderweb, and any decor you want whether it be cute and kitschy or dark and Gothic!
Will happily carve pumpkins with you, often gravitating towards these gigantic unwieldy pumpkins that anyone else might balk at. He'll even take care of the guts if you want, and if you want to bake the pumpkin seeds he will help with those too. He usually just makes faces of all varieties, sometimes goofy and sometimes scary. He doesn't have much patience for patterns or anything complicated like that. Just give him a knife and he will hack away!
Where he lives won't have any trick or treaters, both in his city penthouse and villa in the middle of nowhere. If you want to see everyone in costume then you'll need to pester him a bit and depending on if he trusts you to be in public and not run from him, he will take you up in your offer. Most of the time it's just walking through neighborhoods and looking at the cool stuff people do with their houses and the cute costumes the kids have on. Alan might get those butterflies in his stomach if he thinks about being a dad and taking his own kids around someday too much so best not to let him dwell on it too long.
But if you do have children, he is the type of dad to dress up with his kids and take them to as many houses as they can hit, raking in the candy haul and teetering on the brink of cavities for months. If it lasts that long. Alan has a horrible sweet tooth.
Honestly Alan is just happy to be with you and watch scary movies on the couch during Halloween. Even though he's too old to get into half of the shenanigans he used to do, he can still spend a quiet evening with you that leads to some very sexy roleplay if he's lucky.

Two weeks after their engagement, Steve and Elizabeth were still living off of the high from their engagement.
They were currently spending some time in New York. Liz had just graduated from law school that spring, while Steve was still working at the same architect firm. That was actually also why they were in New York.
The company was opening another branch in New York. Steve was offered a promotion, but it would only be available at the New York office.
In the few years since Steve graduated, he's been excelling in the architect world. He's really made a name for himself. Last year he was named the "hottest" up and coming architect. Ever since then he's been very busy. His boss gave him the month off, to propose to Liz, and to take a tour of the new office.
Steve told Liz that they'd only move back if that's what she really wanted. Especially since she just finished law school, and she still needs to take the state bar exam. She would need to figure that out soon, because the NY state bar exam date was closing in on her.
She and Steve decided a month in NY would help them both decide if moving back would be best. If they did decide to move back Steve would already have job waiting for him. Liz on the other hand might not.
Luckily for her, Loki was currently working at a law firm in NY. He was able to get her an interview while she was in town. He couldn't promise her a position, as there were a lot of people up for the job, some had even interned there. But Liz still went to the interview giving it her best.
Loki and Scott moved to NY two years ago, both their jobs taking them there. They ended up eloping right before their move, two years after Thor and Wanda got married.
Thor and Wanda had officially been married for four years. They were also considering the move over to the east coast. Both of their families lived out there and it just made more sense to them, especially with them trying to start a family.
Family was a massive pro for Steve and Liz as well. Moving back would mean seeing their loved ones a lot more. Especially now with Poppy about to turn six, part of them felt like they were missing out on their goddaughter's life. Steve also missed Bucky.
Bucky was doing really well in his career. He's currently working as a sound engineer for a movie studio. A big step up from the local recording studio he started in.
He was currently looking for a place to move to in Manhattan. Now that Poppy was about to be six, and she was already going to school in the city, it was time they officially made the move.
Actually he's no his girlfriend had decided to move in together.
Dr. Jane Foster is a pediatric fellow. She was in her first year of fellowship at a private practice in Manhattan.
Bucky and Jane met three years ago, through Sam Wilson. Bucky was hesitant at first to date, because he's a single father, and his main priority has always been Poppy since the day she was born. But
Sam had convinced Bucky to go on just one date. One date was all it took. Bucky was immediately hooked. Same went for Jane.
Jane was incredibly understanding of Bucky's situation. And it also helped that she loved children.
Jane met Poppy four months into the relationship and since then everything has been going great for the three of them. Jane instantly fell in love with Poppy and Poppy loved Jane a lot. Bucky had truly never felt happier. When he was alone with his girls he felt complete. When Bucky brought up the idea of officially making the move, he and Jane made the decision to move in together. They were practically already living together at that point. They were all very excited about this next step in their relationship.
Tumblr media
Steve and Elizabeth were watching Poppy for the day while Bucky and Jane worked. They decided to spend their day in the city, walking around what could possibly be their new neighborhood. Poppy was loving having them around, and talking up their ears about school and all the friends she has made.
Around lunch time Poppy started to get hungry and sleepy. They decided to stop at a café and get some lunch.
Liz went inside while Steve and Poppy sat outside. Poppy ended up falling asleep on Steve while they waited for Liz. Steve found himself thinking about the possibility of living there.
Truth be told part of him did want to move back. He genuinely missed the New York City way of living. As he relaxes into the sounds of the city, he hears his name being called out. He looks straight ahead, looking for whoever called him, or if they were calling another Steve. As his eyes scanned the crowd, he met the eyes of the last person he would ever think he would see again.
He was completely shocked.
"Peggy?" Steve questioned, as the woman stopped in front of the table.
"I thought that was you," she smiled, "Wow. You most certainly aren't 17 anymore."
Peggy checks him out, as he stayed in his seat. She wasn't being subtle about it either.
Steve cleared his throat, noticing the way Peggy was eyeing him up and down, "Well it has been a decade wince we've last seen each other."
Peggy glances at the sleeping Poppy in his lap.
"Is this your daughter?" She asks pointing at Poppy, then glancing at his left hand noticing there wasn't a ring on his finger.
"Oh, no. This is my goddaughter. She's actually Bucky's," Steve tells her.
"No way," she gasps, surprised by this information. At that moment Elizabeth walks out of the cafe with a number plaque for the table.
"Oh my gosh! Elizabeth?" Peggy greeted.
"Peggy?" Liz asked confused at this older version of Peggy Carter.
"Yeah," she smiled.
Elizabeth put the number plaque on the table, Peggy catches the shimmer of her engagement ring.
"Oh wow! Congratulations," she says grabbing Liz's left hand, "You have a really beautiful daughter. I'm so happy for you and Bucky. High school sweethearts, making it til the end."
Liz was confused, she looked at Steve, hoping he could get them out of this awkward, and slightly uncomfortable situation.
"Um actually, this isn't her daughter, and she's not engaged or married to Bucky," Steve says, "We're actually the ones engaged."
Peggy was taken by surprise at this brand new information, not expecting to hear those words come out of Steve's mouth.
"Oh, I'm so sorry. My mistake," she apologizes, embarrassed.
"Well Congratulations," she awkwardly says, glancing at her watch, "I better be on my way. But hey here's my card. I moved back a couple of months ago. But we should all get dinner and catch up. There's clearly a lot I have missed."
She hands Liz the business card and walks away.
"Well that was random," Steve awkwardly laughs.
"What are the odds," Liz says sitting across from Steve, "Didn't even know she was back."
Liz cleared her throat and tried to focus on the city around her.
Con: Peggy Carter.
Steve and Elizabeth continued on with their day. At the end of the day, they dropped Poppy off at Jane's apartment and headed to their hotel.
Throughout their day there was a slight tension between the couple, it didn't go unnoticed by the both of them. Neither could figure out what the tension was. They both knew it had to do with the sudden appearance of Peggy Carter.
They laid in their hotel bed, each with a book in their hands. Their nightly read.
Elizabeth had a hard time focusing on what she was reading. She tried to force away thoughts of Peggy Carter out of her head. She flipped the page and stopped when she noticed her engagement ring. She took a long stare at it.
"Do you regret it?" She asks, turning her head towards him.
"Regret what?" He asks putting his book down and turning to face her.
"You and Peggy breaking up," she says, "Do you regret it?"
Steve is taken back by Liz's question.
"No," he shakes his head, "I don't regret it."
"Do you ever wonder what you're life would've been like had she stayed?"
Steve ponders over the question, "Truthfully? No. Once we said our final goodbyes in London, that was it. I never once gave it another thought. I closed that chapter as soon as I boarded my flight. Not that the breakup didn't hurt. Because it did. I just knew then that she wasn't my future. I never thought I would see her again."
"But you did," Liz quietly says.
"Yeah, which was weird," he says.
"I wouldn't blame you if you wanted out of the relationship to be with her," she says tearing up.
"What? No," Steve quickly says, sitting straight up, "I don't want that."
"I just mean, if you wanted to. I would completely understand. She was your first love."
"Yes, she was. But I don't love her," he says, "I know this is only coming up because we saw her today, and there's been this out of awkward tension in the air ever since. But I don't want to be with Peggy."
Liz glances down at her engagement ring again, trying to hide the tears of insecurity rolling down her face.
"Look at me," he softly says, placing his hand over her's, "I love you and only you. I asked you to marry me because you're the one I want to spend the rest of my life with. You and only. Peggy doesn't mean anything to me. I haven't even thought of her since high school. You mean more to me than anything in this world. Especially more than some high school ex-girlfriend. You, Elizabeth are my entire world."
"Why would you even think that?" He gently asks
"Just seeing her and the way she looked at you before she realized we were engaged," she says, "She wanted you. Then my mind started to wonder if maybe that was a sign for you two to get back together. And maybe you'd realize you regret proposing to me."
"There isn't an ounce of regret in me that makes me feel like I'm making the wrong decision," he assures her, "There is no one else for me. You are it. Proposing to you wasn't for confidence. Proposing to you was the only thing I've ever felt so sure of. It was the only thing I've ever done that I didn't second guess. You are the only thing I've ever felt so sure of."
"This," he grabs her and and gestures between the both of them, "Is where I want to be for the rest of my life. This brings me a peace like no other. You are my peace."

"You are my peace," Steve sniffles, as he holds Elizabeth's hands, tears flowing down both of their faces as they stood up in front of their closest friends and families, reciting their vows.
"I don't think I would be where I am today without you and your continued support. I meant what I said years ago about following you wherever you went. All I ever want is to be by your side. Nothing else has ever meant to me as you do. My future doesn't exist if you're not apart of it. Nothing matters if I don't have you. Since the day we met, twenty years ago, I knew you would play such an important part in my life. We clearly aren't the same people we were then. Yet over the many years you haven't strayed away from being this kind supportive, understanding person. To know one day our future kids will have that as a mother, overwhelms me with joy and love. They will be the most luckiest kids in the world.
"You are it for me. You are my world. I know everyone says weddings and getting married is the start of a new chapter, but it doesn't really feel lie that for us. It just feel like our story is continuing. There's no end in sight. And I'll make sure of that, by being supportive, kind to you for the rest of our lives. There won't be a time where you ever have to question my love for you. Because Elizabeth Sanchez, you are love."
Elizabeth has tears streaming down her face. She didn't' care how she looked. The only person that mattered was the man standing before her, professing his never ending love for her.
The pastors signaled her, that it was now her turn to speak.
"I figured I'd try and keep it short and sweet, because you know exactly how I feel about you Steve," she begins, "There's only one thing I want to say, more so I want to thank you. Thank you for giving me love. An unconditional love that never seems to fade. Since day one of our relationship. You've been patient. You always say I'm the supportive one, but you fail to see that you are too. Even more than me. You've always been willing to drop everything, not just for me but for all the ones you love. Anyone who has Steve Rogers' love, should count themselves as being incredibly special. I am the luckiest pet one out of them all because I get to be the recipient of your love every single day. I am the one who gets to spend the rest of their life calling you my husband. My partner. My life. You've shown me a love like no other. So thank-you Steve, for loving me."

Chapter Five: The New Routine.
Dumbledore knocked on the door three times and Mrs Weasley's voice was quick to answer.
"Who's there? Declare yourself!"
"It is I, Dumbledore, bringing Harry. Mel and Erick are with us."
"Harry, dear!" Mrs Weasley opened the door at once, letting them in. "Mel! Erick! Gracious, Albus, you gave me a fright, you said not to expect you before morning!"
"We were lucky, Slughorn proved much more persuadable than I had expected. The children's doing, of course. Ah, hello, Nymphadora!"
"Hello, Professor... Wotcher, kids."
"Hi, Tonks."
Tonks was looking remarkably grim, Mel looked around the kitchen.
"Where's my mum?"
"I told her to go to bed," Mrs Weasley said sweetly, "it's almost midnight, the baby kept her up last night and she needed to sleep."
"I'd better be off," Tonks stood up. "Thanks for the tea and sympathy, Molly."
"Please don't leave on my account," said Dumbledore, "I cannot stay, I have urgent matters to discuss with Rufus Scrimgeour."
"No, no, I need to get going," She replied. "'Night —"
"Dear, why not come to dinner at the weekend, Remus and Mad-Eye are coming — ?"
"My uncle's coming?" Mel asked with excitement.
"No, really, Molly... thanks anyway..." Tonks said tensely. "Good night, everyone."
"Well, I shall see you at Hogwarts," Dumbledore told them. "Take care of yourself. Molly, your servant."
He and Tonks disapparated, Erick spoke up.
"You have a lovely house, Mrs Weasley."
"Oh dear, well, we do make an effort on making it cosy," Mrs Weasley smiled.  "You're like Ron, all of you, you look as though you've had Stretching Jinxes put on you. I swear Ron's grown four inches since I last bought him school robes. Are you hungry?"
"Yeah, I am," said Harry.
"A bit," Erick agreed.
Mel sat down between them, she was quite pleased about Mrs Weasley's comment on her growth, even though hers was less noticeable than the boys' who now were five and seven inches taller than her.
Crookshanks and Grey quickly made their way to them. Grey didn't like Erick very much, though Mel didn't know why. Crookshanks, on the other hand, was a huge fan.
"So Hermione's here?" Harry asked as he watched the ginger cat ruin the impeccable set of clothes Erick was wearing.
"Oh yes, she arrived the day before yesterday. Everyone's in bed, of course, we didn't expect you for hours. Here you are — Bread, dears?"
"Thanks, Mrs Weasley."
"So you persuaded Horace Slughorn to take the job?"
"It wasn't hard," Mel smiled. "Professor Slughorn was eager to get to know us better."
"He taught Arthur and me. He was at Hogwarts for ages, started around the same time as Dumbledore, I think. Did you like him?"
Harry and Erick shrugged, Mel kept her attention on her plate.
"I know what you mean... Of course he can be charming when he wants to be, but Arthur's never liked him much. The Ministry's littered with Slughorn's old favorites, he was always good at giving leg ups, but he never had much time for Arthur — didn't seem to think he was enough of a highflier. Well, that just shows you, even Slughorn makes mistakes. I don't know whether Ron's told you in any of his letters — it's only just happened — but Arthur's been promoted!"
Harry made a funny noise, taken by surprise. Erick did a sort of delighted hum and Mel stopped eating, staring at her attentively.
"That's great!" Harry said.
"You are sweet... Yes, Rufus Scrimgeour has set up several new offices in response to the present situation, and Arthur's heading the Office for the Detection and Confiscation of Counterfeit Defensive Spells and Protective Objects. It's a big job, he's got ten people reporting to him now!"
"Sounds important," Erick smiled.
"What exactly — ?"
"Well, you see, in all the panic about You-Know-Who, odd things have been cropping up for sale everywhere, things that are supposed to guard against You-Know-Who and the Death Eaters. You can imagine the kind of thing — so-called protective potions that are really gravy with a bit of bubotuber pus added, or instructions for defensive jinxes that actually make your ears fall off..."
Mrs Weasley looked beyond proud as she told them all about her husband's new job. Mel was happy for him, she couldn't think of a man who deserved a promotion more than Mr Weasley.
"...So you see, it's a very important job, and I tell him it's just silly to miss dealing with spark plugs and toasters and all the rest of that Muggle rubbish."
"Well, the heart wants what it wants," Mel chuckled, she was unaware of the way both boys looked at her.
"Is Mr Weasley still at work?" Harry questioned.
"Yes, he is. As a matter of fact, he's a tiny bit late... He said he'd be back around midnight..."
Mel felt something awful crawling up her chest when she noticed all the tiny hands on the clock were now pointing at 'Mortal peril'.
"It's been like that for a while now," Mrs Weasley commented, "ever since You-Know-Who came back into the open. I suppose everybody's in mortal danger now... I don't think it can be just our family... but I don't know anyone else who's got a clock like this, so I can't check. Oh!"
Mr Weasley's was now currently pointing at 'travelling.'
"He's coming!" She got up, a second later there was a knock on the door. "Arthur, is that you?"
"Yes. But I would say that even if I were a Death Eater, dear. Ask the question!"
"Oh, honestly..."
"Molly!"
"All right, all right... What is your dearest ambition?"
"To find out how airplanes stay up."
Mel and Harry shared a look of amusement, she heard Erick mumbling 'How do they stay up?' Mrs Weasley tried to open the door but her husband kept it shut.
"Molly! I've got to ask you your question first!"
"Arthur, really, this is just silly..."
"What do you like me to call you when we're alone together?"
The group of teenagers froze.
"Mollywobbles," Mrs Weasley whispered to the tiny crack in the door.
Mel choked on the soup, Harry had to hide his face entirely to control his laughing fit after watching her almost die, Erick quickly patted her back.
"Correct," Mr Weasley said brightly. "Now you can let me in."
"I still don't see why we have to go through that every time you come home!" Mrs Weasley complained as the man walked in. "I mean, a Death Eater might have forced the answer out of you before impersonating you!"
"I know, dear, but it's Ministry procedure, and I have to set an example. Something smells good — onion soup? Kids! We didn't expect you until morning!"
They all greeted Mr Weasley, Mel finally able to breathe and Harry able to speak without cracking up.
"Thanks, Molly," He said when the woman set a plate for him. "It's been a tough night. Some idiot's started selling Metamorph-Medals. Just sling them around your neck and you'll be able to change your appearance at will. A hundred thousand disguises, all for ten Galleons!"
"And what really happens when you put them on?"
"Mostly you just turn a fairly unpleasant orange color, but a couple of people have also sprouted tentaclelike warts all over their bodies. As if St. Mungo's didn't have enough to do already!"
"It sounds like the sort of thing Fred and George would find funny," said Mrs Weasley with doubt. "Are you sure — ?"
"Of course I am! The boys wouldn't do anything like that now, not when people are desperate for protection!"
"So is that why you're late, Metamorph-Medals?"
"No, we got wind of a nasty backfiring jinx down in Elephant and Castle, but luckily the Magical Law Enforcement Squad had sorted it out by the time we got there..."
Harry yawned beside her, Mel was starting to feel weary herself after days of sleeping in the backseat of a car.
"Bed," said Mrs Weasley. "I've got Fred and George's room all ready for you, boys. Mel, you're sharing Ginny's bedroom but I don't want you to wake the girls up. Is it okay if you sleep with Erick and Harry tonight?"
"Yeah, it's fine," Mel yawned, too sleepy to care.
"Where are the twins?" Harry asked.
"Oh, they're in Diagon Alley, sleeping in the little flat over their joke shop as they're so busy," said Mrs Weasley, and Mel could tell there was a hint of pride in her voice. "I must say, I didn't approve at first, but they do seem to have a bit of a flair for business! Come on, dears, your trunks are already up there."
"'Night, Mr Weasley," said Harry.
"Thank you for letting us stay," Erick added.
"Have a goodnight!" Mel ended.
"G'night," said Mr Weasley.
Mel had been in the twins' room a couple of times through the years, it was startling when she walked in and couldn't recognize it. The smell of fireworks was still hanging in the air and there was a few boxes of their personal items laying around, but almost nothing left from their essence in the room, it made her feel homesick.
There were only two beds since they weren't expected until the next morning. Mrs Weasley quickly made a third bed appear with a flick of her wand, it was smaller than the other two, mostly blankets and cushions piled together. She apologized profusely, but Mel didn't mind, she would've slept on the floor considering how exhausted she was.
The boys insisted that she took one of their beds but Mel refused, when she came back from changing Erick was already tucked in her pile of blankets. Harry was grinning at the way his feet were hanging over the edge.

The following morning she was awoken by the door slamming open and a pair of feet stomping into the room. She hid her face between the pillows, Harry's mattress squeaked as he sat up, and fabric rustled as Erick pushed down his blankets.
"Wuzzgoinon?" Harry asked sleepily.
"We didn't know you were here already!" There was a soft thud coming from Harry's bed after Ron sat down on it.
"Ron, don't hit him!" Hermione sat on Mel's bed.
"Dear Merlin," She groaned, hiding under the covers. "I'm going to murder you two..."
"All right?" Ron asked.
"Never been better," said Harry, sounding a bit more awake. "You?"
"Not bad."
"I knew there was no way I'd have a quiet morning here," Erick grumbled. "Hi, 'Mione..."
"Hi!" She said brightly, then shook one of Mel's legs. "Wake up! I want to hear all you did during your mission!"
"When did you get here? Mum's only just told us!" Ron said.
"About one o'clock this morning," Harry replied, Mel turned around and squinted, trying to get used to the sunlight.
"Were the Muggles all right? Did they treat you okay?"
"Same as usual... they didn't talk to me much, but I like it better that way. How're you, Hermione?"
"Oh, I'm fine."
"What's the time? Have we missed breakfast?" Harry said.
"Don't worry about that, Mum's bringing you up a tray; she reckons you look underfed," said Ron.
"Well, he is," Mel replied, finally sitting up. "You should've seen my mum — almost forced the food down his throat once..."
Harry threw a pillow at her, but he missed by a considerable distance.
"So, what's been going on?" Ron asked eagerly.
"Nothing much, I've just been stuck at my aunt and uncle's, haven't I?"
"And we just had a road trip around some towns," Erick said, getting out of his covers only to sit down on Harry's bed.
"Come off it!" said Ron. "You've been off with Dumbledore!"
"It wasn't that exciting. He just wanted us to help him persuade this old teacher to come out of retirement. His name's Horace Slughorn."
"Oh... We thought —" Hermione hushed him, Ron was quick to correct his mistake. "— we thought it'd be something like that."
"You did?" Harry grinned.
"Yeah... yeah, now Umbridge has left, obviously we need a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, don't we? So, er, what's he like?"
"He looks a bit like a walrus, and he used to be Head of Slytherin," Harry shrugged, then he glanced back at their friend and raised a brow. "Something wrong, Hermione?"
The girl gave a start, straightening in her place.
"No, of course not! So, um, did Slughorn seem like he'll be a good teacher?"
"Well, he's got a sharp mind no doubt," Erick yawned, laying on the mattress.
"He can't be worse than Umbridge, can he?" added Harry, softly kicking Erick to move him away from his legs.
"I know someone who's worse than Umbridge," Ginny walked in sulking. "Hi, guys."
"What's up with you?" Ron questioned.
"It's her, she's driving me mad."
"What's she done now?" asked Hermione.
"It's the way she talks to me — you'd think I was about three!"
"I know, she's so full of herself..."
"You better not be talking about my mum," Mel joked.
"Can't you two lay off her for five seconds?" Ron scoffed.
"Oh, that's right, defend her! We all know you can't get enough of her," Ginny rolled her eyes.
Harry and Mel shared a confused look, and just when he was about to ask the door opened again. The boy pulled up his covers so fast that Erick fell to the floor.
"Oh," Mel said quietly, staring up at Fleur Delacour.
"Children," she said brightly. "Eet 'as been too long!"
Mrs Weasley walked in right after her, looking upset.
"There was no need to bring up the tray, I was just about to do it myself!"
"Eet was no trouble," Fleur left the tray floating between their beds and kissed her and Harry on both cheeks. Erick got up with a scowl, he shook Fleur's hand, not letting her touch him any further. "I 'ave been longing to see you. You remember my seester, Gabrielle? She never stops talking about 'Arry Potter. She will be delighted to see you again."
"Oh... is she here too?" Harry asked.
"No, no, silly boy," Fleur laughed, "I mean next summer, when we — but do you not know?"
"We hadn't got around to telling him yet," Mrs Weasley said grumpily.
"Bill and I are going to be married!"
"Oh," said Harry, looking back at Mel begging her to help him. "Wow. Er — congratulations!"
"That's brilliant," Mel was unsure of how to react, none of the other women in the room looked happy.
"Bill is very busy at ze moment, working very 'ard, and I only work part-time at Gringotts for my Eenglish, so he brought me 'ere for a few days to get to know 'is family properly. I was so pleased to 'ear you would be coming — zere isn't much to do 'ere, unless you like cooking and chickens! Well — enjoy your breakfast!"
She turned around and left the room with a joyous air, then Emily walked in, holding her son.
"Hi kids," She smiled.
Mel jumped out of bed and gave her mother a big hug. She took her baby brother and kissed him all over his small face. Mrs Weasley muttered something Mel could not hear, Ginny inched closer and started to play with Reggie's little fingers.
"Mum hates her," the girl told her, clearly talking about Fleur.
"I do not hate her! I just think they've hurried into this engagement, that's all!"
"Well, it's not like we all have time to spare, do we?" Emily asked carefully, brushing the hair away from Mel's forehead.
"They've known each other a year," said Ron crossly.
"Well, that's not very long! I know why it's happened, of course. It's all this uncertainty with You-Know-Who coming back, people think they might be dead tomorrow, so they're rushing all sorts of decisions they'd normally take time over. It was the same last time he was powerful, people eloping left, right, and center—"
"Including you and Dad," Ginny smirked.
"Yes, well, your father and I were made for each other, what was the point in waiting? Whereas Bill and Fleur... well... what have they really got in common? He's a hard-working, down-to-earth sort of person, whereas she's —"
"A cow," Ginny replied. "But Bill's not that down-to-earth. He's a Curse-Breaker, isn't he, he likes a bit of adventure, a bit of glamour... I expect that's why he's gone for Phlegm."
"That's exactly what people used to say about me and Matthew," Emily raised a brow. "Now they tell me we were the perfect couple! You see, time's all it takes to change one's opinion, I think we shouldn't talk about relationships that aren't ours."
"I think she's lovely," Mel shrugged, softly kissing her brother's cheek. "You guys are being too harsh on her. I mean, Ginny, you're beautiful —"
"I'm sorry, Mel, I have a boyfriend," She joked.
"— But that doesn't mean you're silly, does it?" Mel sat down on her bed. "Have you forgotten how nice she was to Ron after he helped her sister?"
Mrs Weasley left looking rather tired, Emily kissed Mel, Harry and Erick on the cheek before leaving, leaving Leon Regulus in the room.
"Don't you get used to her if she's staying in the same house?" Harry chuckled, staring at the way Ron was struggling to breathe.
"Well, you do... but if she jumps out at you unexpectedly, like then..."
"It's pathetic," said Hermione, without even asking she took Regulus out of Mel's hold, ignoring the girl's protests.
"I feel your pain, Ronnie, don't listen to them," Mel sighed, leaning back on the bed frame.
"You don't really want her around forever?" Ginny insisted. "Well, Mum's going to put a stop to it if she can, I bet you anything."
"She shouldn't!" Mel replied. "What would you feel if you were deeply in love with someone and everyone tried to keep you away from them? You're own family!"
"How's she going to manage that, anyway?" asked Harry.
"She keeps trying to get Tonks round for dinner. I think she's hoping Bill will fall for Tonks instead. I hope he does, I'd much rather have her in the family."
"Yeah, that'll work," Ron snorted. "Listen, no bloke in his right mind's going to fancy Tonks when Fleur's around. I mean, Tonks is okay-looking when she isn't doing stupid things to her hair and her nose, but —"
"She's a damn sight nicer than Phlegm,'' Ginny made a face of disgust.
"And she's more intelligent, she's an Auror!" said Hermione, Reggie cried a bit and Ginny took it away from Hermione.
"Fleur's not stupid, she was good enough to enter the Triwizard Tournament," Harry argued.
"Not you as well!" Hermione scowled.
"I suppose you like the way Phlegm says ' 'Arry,' do you?" Ginny huffed.
"No," said Harry, blushing a bit, "I was just saying, Phlegm — I mean, Fleur —"
"Oh, please," Mel snorted. "You're just upset because Bill is your favourite brother, Ginny — you're scared he'll stop hanging out here once he marries Fleur. Hermione, I know you're lying, you're not angry because she isn't smart enough for your standards."
Hermione blushed a deep shade of red.
"I don't know what you mean."
"Sure you don't," She grinned. "But you know she's not any of those things, I know you do. I mean, so what if she's confident, as long as she loves Bill like he deserves, right? Don't you want him to be happy?"
Ginny looked at Reggie for a long time, then she sighed heavily.
"I would like her to respect our way of handling the house, that's all..."
"That's understandable," Mel nodded. "But she's the one having to get used to the Weasleys, and if I may give my opinion, you guys are as peculiar as any French girl."
Ginny's face showed a small grin.
"In my opinion," Erick spoke casually, grabbing a toast from the tray. "Fleur's too ostentatious — but she knows how to use her charm, which means she's got a brain. Joseph told me she was a great conversationalist—"
"Can't you talk like a normal bloke?" Ron frowned. "Do you like her, yes or no?"
"I'm saying she's nice."
"Nice?" The redheaded boy asked in bewilderment.
"She's not my type," The older boy rolled his eyes.
"What's your type, then?" Ron demanded.
Erick threw a quick glance at Mel before replying.
"Friendly."
"Okay, maybe Mel's right," Ginny continued, Reggie started to get restless and she swayed him a bit from side to side. "But I still get along with Tonks better, at least she's a laugh..."
"Well, she can still come and hang out, but you can't force love."
"She hasn't been much of a laugh lately though," Ron pointed out. "Every time I've seen her she's looked more like Moaning Myrtle."
"That's not fair," Hermione frowned. "She still hasn't got over what happened... you know... I mean, he was her cousin!"
Harry quickly looked down and busied himself with a spoonful of eggs, Mel grabbed a cup of tea and drank half of it in one large sip.
"Tonks and Sirius barely knew each other! Sirius was in Azkaban half her life and before that their families never met —"
"That's not the point — She thinks it was her fault he died!"
"How does she work that one out?" Harry asked, his mouth half-full.
"Well, she was fighting Bellatrix Lestrange, wasn't she? I think she feels that if only she had finished her off, Bellatrix couldn't have killed Sirius."
Mel tried to remember, there was a huge part of that night she couldn't recall.
"That's stupid," said Ron.
"It's survivor's guilt. I know Lupin's tried to talk her round, but she's still really down. She's actually having trouble with her Metamorphosing!"
"With her — ?"
"She can't change her appearance like she used to. I think her powers must have been affected by shock, or something."
"I didn't know that could happen," said Harry.
"Nor did I, but I suppose if you're really depressed..."
Mel suddenly looked down at her hands and gulped. She hadn't tried to do any kind of magic ever since she'd come back from the Ministry, now a new fear was rising above everything else, the possibility of not being able to be as good as before because of her anguish.
"Ginny," Mrs Weasley walked in again, "come downstairs and help me with the lunch."
"I'm talking to this lot!" Ginny exclaimed, her attention quickly leaving Mel's brother.
"Now!"
"She only wants me there so she doesn't have to be alone with Fleur! Emily's too tired all the time, mum doesn't let her do anything..." The girl got up to leave the room, but Mel stopped her.
"Hey, give that baby back!" She demanded. "I was holding him first!"
Ron stood up and took the baby, claiming no one ever allowed him to play with him. Ginny turned around swiftly, mocking the way Fleur would usually move, once she got to the door she looked over her shoulder one last time before leaving.
"You lot had better come down quickly too!"
Harry, Mel and Erick ate silently while Hermione examined some boxes, Ron was now playing with Reg.
"What's this?" Hermione held up a small telescope.
"Dunno, but if Fred and George've left it here, it's probably not ready for the joke shop yet, so be careful."
"Your mum said the shop's going well," Harry mentioned. "Said Fred and George have got a real flair for business."
"That's an understatement. They're raking in the Galleons! I can't wait to see the place, we haven't been to Diagon Alley yet, because Mum says Dad's got to be there for extra security and he's been really busy at work, but it sounds excellent."
"And what about Percy? Is he talking to your mum and dad again?"
"Nope."
"What a git," Erick muttered, drinking his tea while watching Hermione examine the telescope.
"But he knows your dad was right all along now about Voldemort being back —"
"Dumbledore says people find it far easier to forgive others for being wrong than being right," said Hermione. "I heard him telling your mum, Ron."
"Sounds like the sort of mental thing Dumbledore would say," said Ron.
Mel didn't try to contradict him this time.
"He's going to be giving me private lessons this year," Harry said casually. "Mel already finished hers and he'll have time to teach me."
Hermione gasped, Erick merely looked up from his food.
"You kept that quiet!" Ron exclaimed, Mel's brother slipping from his hold without him noticing.
"I only just remembered. He told me last night in your broom shed."
"Blimey... private lessons with Dumbledore! And he said you're ready to go, Mel? I wonder why he's—?"
"Careful with Lee before you drop him flat on the floor!" Mel scowled. "I see why no one lets you hold him..."
"I don't know exactly why he's going to be giving me lessons, but I think it must be because of the prophecy," Harry continued to speak, eyes fixed on his food. "You know, the one they were trying to steal at the Ministry..."
Erick pulled out his wand and with a quick movement, his plate started to follow him around the room. He took Leon Regulus and mumbled something about the baby needing a nap and Ginny needing help back in the kitchen. Mel wished she could've left with him.
"Nobody knows what it said, though," said Hermione once the Slytherin was gone. "Mel broke it."
"Although the Prophet says —" Ron started.
"Shh!" Hermione interrupted.
"The Prophet's got it right," Harry forced himself to look up. "That glass ball Mel destroyed wasn't the only record of the prophecy. I heard the whole thing in Dumbledore's office, he was the one the prophecy was made to, so he could tell me. From what it said... it looks like I'm the one who's got to finish off Voldemort... At least, it said neither of us could live while the other survives."
She wished she could've spent at least one day without thinking about the prophecy, but Harry had to live knowing that he'd have to face Voldemort, so she couldn't complain.
BANG!
Hermione vanished behind a cloud of dark smoke.
"Hermione!" shouted the three of them.
The girl stood up, coughing.
"I squeezed it and it — it punched me!"
"Don't worry," said Ron biting his lip so he wouldn't laugh, "Mum'll fix that, she's good at healing minor injuries —"
"Oh well, never mind that now!" said Hermione, pushing it aside. "Harry, oh, Harry... We wondered, after we got back from the Ministry... Obviously, we didn't want to say anything to you, but from what Lucius Malfoy said about the prophecy, how it was about you and Voldemort, well, we thought it might be something like this... Oh, Harry... Are you scared?"
"Not as much as I was," Harry shrugged. "When I first heard it, I was... but now, it seems as though I always knew I'd have to face him in the end..."
"When we heard Dumbledore was collecting you in person, we thought he might be telling you something or showing you something to do with the prophecy. And we were kind of right, weren't we? He wouldn't be giving you lessons if he thought you were a goner, wouldn't waste his time — he must think you've got a chance!"
"Of course he does!" Mel got up, starting to pick up the pieces of the tray that had smashed when the boys ran to help Hermione. "Harry's a great wizard, we just need to teach him how to fight..."
Her friends looked at her with pity, they must've been thinking of her lifeline connection with Harry and how it could affect her, but Mel couldn't look afraid or else they wouldn't believe her words.
"Guys, we'll get through this..." Mel looked down a the tiny scars on her palm, rubbing them gently.
"That's true," said Hermione. "I wonder what he'll teach you, Harry? Really advanced defensive magic, probably... powerful countercurses... anti-jinxes... probably the same things he taught to Mel. And evasive enchantments generally— Well, at least you know one lesson you'll be having this year, that's one more than Ron and me. I wonder when our O.W.L. results will come?"
"Can't be long now, it's been a month," said Ron.
"Hang on, I think Dumbledore said our O.W.L. results would be arriving today!"
"Yeah, that's true!" Mel admitted, leaving the broken plates on the desk.
"Today? Today? But why didn't you — oh my God — you should have said —" Hermione squeaked. "I'm going to see whether any owls have come..."
Ron and Hermione left the room quickly, Harry and her were left alone, but this felt a thousand times less awkward than a year before.
"Thank you," Harry said, helping her fold the blankets.
"I didn't do anything. You know they're scared, even if they don't show it..."
"I'm thanking you because it must be hard for you as well, not to show it," He tilted his head. "Usually, you're an open book..."
"I used to be," She corrected. "My feelings are just mine, Harry, and no one else needs to know about them."
He frowned.
"Still, you know it's better not to hold things in, right?"
Mel stared at him.
"Look at you, teaching me about how to handle my emotions!"
The boy let out a chuckle and reached to hold her hand.
"It's going to be okay, Mellow."
She melted at the name, it'd been a long time since he'd called her that. She looked down again at her scarred hand, and that stirred her into talking. An idea started to take form in her mind.
"What if there's a chance you don't have to be the only chosen one?"
Harry blinked.
"What?"
"What if I am your backup?"
"H-How would that even..?"
"Think about it," Mel started. "I was there when he tried to kill you, and that's when our connection was created — it grows stronger when you inch closer to death... What if the reason we can feel each other's pain, is because it warns us about the incoming danger? What if the reason we're connected it's because I'm destined to take your place if you die?"
"But — but the prophecy said it was a boy —"
"Prophecies can change, you're not obliged to copy them exactly as they're told! Even Dumbledore thought I could be the child of the prophecy! What if, in a way, we both are?"
"It doesn't mean anything, Mel. I chose to be —"
"Who says I can't choose to help you?" She lifted her right hand. "I marked myself with the prophecy, see? If we do this together we'll have a real advantage. We even promised it back in the ministry, didn't we? If you die I take your place, if I die —"
"I make sure is not in vain," Harry had finally made up his mind. "D'you think Dumbledore knows? Do you think that's why he wants us to decide for ourselves what we'll do with our lifeline?"
"I have no idea," Mel responded sincerely. "But if we're doing this, we need to set the rules now."
Harry thought about it, then he grabbed her hands and squeezed them lightly.
"Let's talk."

AEW Double or Nothing 2021
In which the spirit of WCW is alive in confusing and delightful ways and we are left to parse whether overbooking and extracurriculars are offset by having actually very good wrestling happening at the same time.
- Lessons learned from Revolution on the production side? Maybe just cool it on pyro, though the rappelling adventure in the Stadium Stampede showed some of that now-characteristic 'trust us it'll look better on TV' flair. Hot crowd tends to paper over most woes, and the crowd was pretty hot. My one gripe is that the casino theme is hanging around like yesterday's takeout containers. Nothing wrong with clinging to a theme, I just think it's time for season 2. My suggestion? Under the Sea.
*Pre-Card Serena Deeb (C) v Riho for the NWA Women's Championship (***1/2) - Serena Deeb's star has finally risen. She's a remarkably consistent technician and she can get a match out of anyone at this point. She's working at the level of Mercedes Martinez or Madison Eagles at this point, it's amazing that she was overlooked or considered fit only to be a coach for so long. With the NWA belt she has this new swagger, she's basically everything Tessa Blanchard might bring to the table with none of the downsides (Serena has a lot of friends and seems like a lovely person, even!) - Riho's back and here to stay. Her time in Stardom didn't do much for my evaluation of her, which is that there are many better wrestlers that would be better representatives of the joshi style and she's merely pretty good. - The match was very good. Serena showcased a champion's aggression against a sympathetic Riho, they really work well against each other, Deeb's technical prowess against Riho's flexibility led to a very dynamic finish.
*Main Card Hangman Adam Page v Brian Cage (***1/2) - Here the shenanigans start. Brian Cage is on Team Taz, Team Taz has nothing else much to do tonight, so why wouldn't Team Taz flex their muscles, bait us with HOOK, etc? (Because it would be nice to have some variety in the card in terms of a match where one competitor stands across from another competitor?) - Hangman is (checking notes) yeah, still over as fuck, as befits the Anxious Millennial Cowboy. Cage terrifies me, he's a child's drawing of a body builder. He do be very agile for a man of his immense musculature tho. They match up well, Page is biggish for a flyer, Cage loves to play catch. Nothing much to write home about, other than Hangman's beautiful moonsault to the floor and what was overall a very good curtain jerker. - Okay fine, I am curious about Cage's reluctance to lean on the goons, Starks can't come back soon enough.
The Young Bucks v Jon Moxley & Eddie Kingston (***) - I will not be referring to Mox & Eddie as (The) Wild Things because it gives me 'he calls it the wacky line' flashbacks for some reason. - The Bucks have to cheat and abuse Rick Knox's attention span constantly to be on even footing with Mox & Eddie, which is a clever sort of thing that gets washed out by the appearance of LG and Karl Anderson, which again, is cool in a vacuum but was the story of the evening. - Pace was weird - repetitive in eliminating Eddie, then Mox fights back, failed hope spot, Bucks team up, Eddie saves x2/3 in a row. - Mox, unlike Cody (in so many ways,) will probably actually be taking some time off with Renee, which is the kind of thing I would prefer not to know in terms of booking, but they really uh, put him down on the canvas here, and it felt pretty finale-esque.
Casino Battle Royale (n/r, but on the balance pro) - Any changes to the theme of the PPV would likely include changing up the nonsense suit format of these largely joyless slogs. - Obviously anticipating a NJPW talent, or... I dunno, actually -- Lio Rush was a surprise. Got in a quick demonstration of his otherworldly quickness, and you know what, there's probably a fun place for him in AEW. He'll need some friends, of course, feel like Team Taz might fit his temperament. I wonder if he was aware of the Mark Henry news... - Christian does not need to win this kind of match to get a title shot, obviously, but that said it was super lovely to use him to give Jungle Boy the shine. Jungle Boy would be a license to print money if he was even as big as Hangman. - Could register some continued griping about how Penta is not getting his due in AEW but he also literally was dressed as the Joker so I'm low on sympathy on this one particular night.
Anthony Ogogo v Cody Rhodes (*) - I did not like this. It's hard for me to read jingoism as a face move to begin with, and Cody's was egregiously tone deaf and kinda silly yet delivered without a trace of irony because Cody doesn't do irony on purpose, ridiculous neck tattoo aside. - Great argument to be made that Ogogo just isn't experienced enough to be winning matches against Cody. But like, what are we doing here? Cody needs to take some time off, maybe. I thought that's what was happening when he had his mini feud with Penta that really just ended in quick decisive Cody win. I though maybe Cody was being turned when QT and The Factory snapped-- sure, they're a group of impotent player 2s, but Cody is an out of touch elitist with a callous and manipulative streak. Alas, also no. America #1. - Cody is approximately 8 times as tough as Billy Gunn based on his weathering of the one punch man. Match ran a bit long given how little there was to go on. Cody gigged? Quelle surprise. - Cody had the best match on the card like, 3 out of the first 4 AEW events or something, and that was all booking and storytelling. I do hope Cody follows Moxley's lead into a little sabbatical.
Miro (C) v Lance Archer for the TNT Championship (**1/2) - Card's hossiest hoss match, a quick burst reminiscent of a car wreck. Absolutely hit on what it should've hit on but a little slow moving considering it went all of 10 minutes. - I will not complain about Jake the Snake, who I love. And also the gimmick spot, with Miro very astutely yeeting what was definitely a snake in a bag (surely.) back down the tunnel.
Dr Britt Baker, DMD v Hikaru Shida (C) for the AEW Women's Championship (***) - Picked up a lot of steam toward the end but seemed a little toothless (heh) until the last five. - Shida 'deserved' some more time as champion in front of crowds but also it's time to let heel Britt reach her peak, I can't even imagine how obnoxious she can be as the champ, it's going to be great.
Sting & Darby Allin v Ethan Page & Scorpio Sky (***1/2) - Such is the power of STING that I feel like I might be underrating this match... I mean it was an okay match about very simply getting some revenge and the sixty year old man did a very subdued Code Red and a slightly less subdued dive. He's also Sting. They missed an opportunity in calling it the 'Scorpio' Death Drop, but the main takeaway here is you see something like this where it's The Icon and you start to understand why WWE trots out their legends to come out of incredibly still kick ass without bending their knees. - The difference, I guess, is that Sting is absolutely being used to build up Darby Allin, whereas it's not like the fed brought back Goldberg and his attendant aura to pump up... anyone but Goldberg?
Kenny Omega (C) v PAC v Orange Cassidy for the AEW World Championship (****) - Off the top I have to say I'm very sad that the rest of the Galaxy's Greatest Friends were seen only very briefly, nice of them to bring OC's backpack. - Also have to point out that PAC's promo featured one of my favourite jokes, that Kenny must be short for Kenneth as a sort of legal/birth name belonging to a professional wrestler. (See also: Samoa Joseph) - And Mr Cassidy certainly did try in this match, ragdoll sells and all. Kenneth and PAC are absurd talents who bring aerial, power and technical maneuvers in equal measure and OC is not doing any of those on the same level, but he picked his spots, showed his genre savvy and hung in there to the point that he wasn't just the fall guy. - The extracurriculars continue in a match that was already a little overboard for silliness due to asymmetry... I think if you're the Invisible Hand it would've made sense to save up all your tricks for this match, but who am I to question the golden goose? - Sure, Kenny and Don ran the classic heel manager interference spot and taking out the ref in desperation spot but having to take out the ref because PAC wouldn't break the hold is fun, as is the stupid/inspired sense in running the 'smash opponent with the belt' spot four times so as none of your heavy gold prizes feel left out. (I love that AAA Mega Championship, they weren't on TV so we get to see it?) - "Fuck You, Don," indeed.
The Inner Circle v The Pinnacle in 'Stadium Stampede II' (***1/2) - This one had to grow on me for two reasons, first that it's usually pretty unforgivable to co-opt the main event spot from the championship match, and second to law of diminishing returns on dumb gimmick matches. - But grow it did. There's a full on meat locker? Commentary will refer to a cardboard cut-out of Shahid Khan as Tony Khan's father (that's canon now,) and Jericho will lovingly pat it? Konnan happened to be the DJ at whatever night club there is a Jaguar Stadium? Spears surrounds himself dramatically with chairs and his hoisted by his own petard? - Ultimately it comes down to letting Sammy shine. His involvement with the Inner Circle has sometimes come at the cost of being able to showcase that prior to AEW he was an ascendant talent in PWG, on his way to Ricochet level feats of acrobatic excess. Still feel like Sammy could've/should've been the one tossed off the cage a few weeks ago, but even better is being the guy getting the pin in the ring.

--------------
Standing in the bathroom of the hotel's penthouse they shared with friends, Maxwell broke the news to a stunned Drake about his ... unfortunate condition.
"What're you gonna do about them, Drake?"
Frustrated, Drake ran a hand down his face, wanting to be anywhere but with Maxwell at that precise moment. "I don't know, Maxwell," he spat. "This is my first crabbing!"
"Maybe we can have a doctor look at them. Get some ... I don't know ... kind of comb or poison or something."
He pulled his pants back up and groaned. "I just need a drink."
Maxwell followed Drake out of the bathroom, keeping a good distance from his friend. "Sure, alcohol solves most problems, but in this particular case, I don't think it will help."
Liam and Leo sat on the sofa watching the Instagram posting of the wedding ceremony as the duo walked by.
A disgruntled Liam stood and gestured to the laptop on the coffee table. "Maxwell! Why the hell did you post this? Do you have any idea what you've done?"
Drake was already out the door headed for the hotel bar. Maxwell never broke stride as he trailed. "No time to talk, Li. Got an STD emergency."
The door slammed with a jarring thud. Liam turned back to Leo with a confused look. "What was that?"
"Sounds like the Drakester didn't wrap it up," Leo chuckled while sippng on a capri-sun, while never taking his attention away from the screen. "Oh! Oh!" He waved his younger brother over with excitement. "This is the part where you sang, Moves Like Jagger, to Riley during the ceremony."
They both listened in as Liam's garbled voice reverberated from the speakers watching the King grind fervently against his bride. "Take me by the tongue, and I'll know you. Kiss me 'til you're drunk, and I'll show you all the moves like Liam. I've got the moves like Liam. I've got the moooOoooOooOooves like Liam."
Liam's hands flew in the air out of bewilderment. "I don't even know that fucking song!"
Leo slurped through his little yellow straw then replied, "I think you do. Videos don't lie, Liam."
A haste knock interrupted their viewing; Liam answered the door, surprised to see Riley.
The frantic woman held her phone up to his face. "Do you want to explain why I'm all over the internet with you, Elvis, and this … this monkey?  Also, it says we got married?"
Leo bolted from the sofa. "Hey! That monkey has a name, you know.”
"Not now, Leo," Liam grumbled.
Riley leaned to get a better look at the sandy-haired blond who was approaching the door. "Who are you?"
Stepping in front of his brother with a hand extended, he flashed his signature grin. "I'm Leo, your new brother-in-law. But only by half because my mom left me. Then I got a new mommy: Liam's mom -- then she died. Then we both got another new mom. Wait … is  Regina still alive? Oh my god! Tell me we still have a mom, Liam!"
"Leo! Get the hell out of here!"
He huffed. "Fine. I'll go make a sandwich. You want one sis?"
Riley shook her head.
Liam gave her an apologetic look. "I'm so sorry about him. Please come in." He stepped aside and offered her a seat on the sofa.
She couldn't help but notice the laptop on the table paused on their abrupt ceremony. It was apparent to her that Liam was trying desperately to get his own answers.
Liam pushed the laptop aside and sat across from her on the table; his elbows rested on his thighs as he sat forward. He let out a heavy exhale. "I suppose we have a lot to talk about."
"Yes, we do. What is all of this? And you're a King? Why didn't you tell me that?"
"I am. It's a small country in the Mediterranean -- Cordonia. And I couldn't tell you because my head guard wouldn't allow me to come on this trip without him unless I remained discreet about my identity."
Riley regarded him thoughtfully. "I suppose that makes sense."
Leo handed her a Capri-Sun with the straw already pushed in. She took it hesitantly and thanked him. "I guess I just need to know how we ended up married to one another last night?"
Liam's remorseful eyes idled up to his brother, who was now standing next to him, eating a turkey and Frito's sandwich. "According to my brother here, whose heart is bigger than his brain, I called him and asked him to marry us."
Leo shook his head. "That's true, Riley. It's all Liam's fault."
Liam rolled his eyes. "Leo, why don't you go check on Drake and Max."
"Fuck that!  Drake ain't got nothing I wanna be checking on right now."
"No, stay," Riley pleaded. "You seem to be the only one who knows what happened last night. Can you tell me everything, please?"
Leo gave Liam an arrogant smirk before falling back onto the sofa beside Riley.
"I'll tell you everything, but you two have to promise to name your firstborn after it's Uncle Leo."
Liam dropped his head into his hands. "Leo, dammit."
Leo nudged Riley in the side and leaned into her. "Your husband's an asshole. Probably inherited from our daddy. If he ever makes you drink from a wine goblet, you should probably run."
Riley patted his knee like a child and spoke softly, assuming at this point he was a mental case. "Leo, sweetie, can you just tell me what happened last night, please."
"Well, as I told Liam, I was getting my prostate milked from hot Nurse Trisha at the bank. I just needed change for a twenty, but they said I had to make a deposit first. They even give you porn in this private room. So she's two fingers deep when I get a call from Liam, who was as drunk as Cooter Brown at a church picnic and said he needed me to come down to that Graceland Chapel because he was getting married. So after I sputtered in the little cup, I left in such a hurry I didn't get my change, but I called Drake and Max and told them they had to meet us at the chapel."
Riley cocked her head. "Why was a monkey there?"
"Oh, that's Mongo, the ring bearer. And if you pulled on his nipples, he'd hump your legs and give you a quick reach around. The coolest fucking monkey I ever knew."
Riley snapped a wide-eyed stare at Liam, who just shrugged at her and said, "I ... I've got nothing."
Leo bit into his sandwich. The crunch from the mound of Fritos could be heard in the casino fifty-one stories below. "You know, Liam --" He smacked his lips a few times. "Now that you're married to sis, you don't have to marry Maddie. You can have the wife and Queen you've always wanted. And judging by the noises I heard coming from your room last night, she makes you very happy."
Riley chuckled, slightly embarrassed, while Liam stood and walked to the wet bar for a drink and some distance.
"Leo, I appreciate the thought," he said while pouring a tumbler of scotch. "But Riley and I are just strangers who had a good time, but made a huge mistake." Liam took a sip of his drink and walked back to the sofa. "Don't worry about anything, Riley. I will take care of the annulment in Cordonia and here in the states."
She smiled. "I would appreciate that. Thank you."
Leo tossed his sandwich on the table. "No! Liam, man, this is your chance to be free. You came to Vegas and hit the jackpot. And maybe you two kids are strangers now, but there's no reason why you couldn't get to know each other and fall madly in love. You already know you'll never love Mads. And then at the end of the day, I'd be the big sexy cupid who made it all possible."
It surprised Liam that his brother's suggestion tempted him... and that Leo actually made a coherent suggestion. He sighed. "I don't think so, Leo."
Riley looked between the two men, who seemed to have a stare down over the logic of this idea. She liked Liam; he was the handsome, mysterious guy that she had always dreamed of meeting.  She took a long drink of her juice and sat it on the table. "I think I will go, now. Is there anything you need from me, Liam, to quicken the annulment?"
"If you could write your contact information down in case my lawyer has questions, that would be great. I'll be sure you receive copies of everything as soon as possible."
Riley pulled a notepad and a pen from her purse as Leo walked over to Liam to debate further. "Don't do this little brother. Don't you do it. We can't afford to lose another member of our family. First it was daddy, then Regina, now Riley. I can't take it, Liam."
Liam placed a hand on Leo's shoulder. "It's done, Leo. And ... Regina is alive. You just spoke to her yesterday."
Leo's head dropped back with a heavy sigh of relief. "Oh, thank god."
"Here ya go, Liam." Riley stood and handed the paper to him and grabbed her purse from the sofa.
Leo clutched both of her shoulders and shook them. "Please, Riley, don't go. Don’t leave my brother an orphan. You're the Queen of Cordonia now. Think of the people!"
Riley snorted from just the thought. "I know nothing about being a queen. I doubt I would have anything to offer your little country."
"Liam could teach you! Hell, I can teach you, too. I'm the smartest one in the family. You'll be bossing people around in no time."
"That's very kind of you, but I think I like my little life just fine here in Vegas, bossing kids around the classroom all day." She patted his arm endearingly and walked past him toward the door.
Liam stood there, watching her walk away while the words of his brother replayed heavily through his mind. Nothing made sense; he was sad that she was leaving, knowing that it was completely irrational to feel that way. Leo was right, though: this was his chance to be free, and even if it didn't work out in the end, it could buy him time to find the one he would love and have the family he always wanted.
He turned away and walked back to the wet bar to pour another drink; he wouldn't be selfish and ask this complete stranger to give up her life for him.
With his back turned, he closed his eyes when he heard Riley speak her goodbyes and opened the door.
A familiar voice rang out that shook him to his core, and he whipped around to see his current wife stopped at the door by his future one.
"Oh, you must be the one who thinks she can steal my crown."

The MLA(/PLF) Headcanon Post (1/2)
In response to this nice ask about whether I have any headcanon or thoughts about the current members of the MLA/PLF, I spent two weeks blithering 16.5K words of exactly that into a Word file, because when it comes to underappreciated characters I love, I do not understand restraint.  This post and its follow-up will cover all ranked ex-MLA members of the PLF, as well as Original Flavor Destro and Curious, since I wasn't going to leave them out of a project like this even if they aren't "current."
The ask only mentioned having previously read The Lore Post, the last exercise in ridiculousness that I wrote at the tail end of MLA Week, so I wrote this to summarize everything that doesn't appear there—which is to say that a lot of the material in these two posts will look familiar to anyone who's read my fanfic about the MLA cast.  There’s still plenty of new material to go around too, though!
So, I don't have much in the vein of askblog-style headcanons where I can randomly tell you stray trivia about a character’s favorite foods or their love languages or what have you; that stuff either comes up when I'm writing fanfic or it doesn't.  That said, below, please find a mix of thoughts I keep in mind when writing characters, facts that have only turned up in my fanfic/notes so far and not the Lore Post meta, and a selection of lightning round headcanon provided by cross-referencing a random number generator with some old questionnaires I keep around for OCs and tabletop characters.
In this post: Destro, Re-Destro and his advisors, and Geten.
Destro—
General Thoughts The whole "revolutionary leader" thing came very naturally to him. He was committed, charismatic, very willing to risk his life and safety for the cause, and he cared about his people. All that said, he absolutely had a pompous, prideful streak, especially where it came to his justification for terrorism.  You only have to read his own words to see that.  Still, he was in large part reacting to the world he lived in, one of greater violence and danger than the current day.
I like to think that—because he was genuine in wanting freedom for all—he would not approve of what became of his Army.  He'd be able to see how they got there, and he would probably have made much the same choices if he'd been there with them, but while he would have agreed that his role should be remembered—that's just Due Credit—he would never have wanted to become the nigh-on religious figure his followers turned him into. Continuing to fight the good fight for his ideals is one thing, but secret salutes and isolated villages and being raised from infancy to know your life has only as much worth as it can contribute to Liberation…  Well, it's just not what he would have wanted for his people, much less his descendants.
Family Situation Chikara was only around 7 when his mother was killed, the event that would shape the rest of his life.  He wasn't hiding in the closet from the mob, either; he was kicking and punching and biting, his motivation to save her overflowing—but he was still only 7, and eventually overwhelmed.  His own life might well have ended there with hers, but for a group of neighborhood vigilante types (at least one of whom probably went on to a career as a hero, after legalization).
He went most of his adolescence without getting involved with anything more sinister than student newspapers, founding a secret meta-rights "club," and attending the odd larger protest, but when the government started talking about passing laws restricting the use of meta-abilities, he started getting very radical very quickly, and when some absolute snake started to use his martyred mother's words to bang the drum for banning quirk use outside the home outright, he went off the deep end.
Lightning Round (Randomly Selected Headcanons)
Favorite book genre?  Memoirs and biographies—he wouldn't have written his own if he didn't appreciate their value.  The intimacy of the personal juxtaposed against the broad scope of history appeals to both his regard for individuality and his revolutionary mindset.
Most prized possession?  Thoughts on material possessions in general?   He doesn’t generally prize material possessions—in fact, he’s something of a skinflint.  His most prized possession is an old pair of gloves that belonged to his mother, which he'd been wearing at the time of her murder.  He didn't come from money to begin with, but his mother’s story made enough of a splash that his financial situation was improved by well-meaning sorts sending along donations and contributions and the like, as well as government officials knowing they needed to be sure that he wound up somewhere at least semi-reasonable lest they court further outrage by mishandling the son of a martyred woman.  The money all went towards school and living expenses, though, leaving him quite experienced at balancing a budget, which would come in handy for that whole ‘leading a violent uprising against the state’ thing later on.
Academic Background: Got all the way through college!  Was involved in student groups as far back as middle school, and only got moreso the further in school he got.  Majored in Human Development; he was intending to go into the public health and policy sphere before the appropriation of his mother's language pissed him off so much he got into terrorism instead.
THE MODERN MLA
Re-Destro—
General Thoughts A huge amount of the way I write him is influenced by one single thing—his characterization as described in the second data book.  His personality is summed up there as "sokoshirenai yami"—bottomless darkness, or, as a friend translated it for me, "unfathomable gloominess."  That really, really stuck with me, because on the one hand, it's so opposed to virtually all of what we see of him on the page, where he's being cheerful or scornful or sycophantic; the closest he ever gets are his brief tears for Miyashita, Curious, and his other followers.
On the other hand, it makes so much sense that the man we see—the man who talks about the heavy burdens of his legacy, who was handed that legacy when he couldn't possibly have been any older than 6 or so, who willingly straps on a self-designed torture device to wring out more power, who all but worships the ground Shigaraki walks on even though Shigaraki is the reason Re-Destro no longer has legs to walk that same ground with—should be "unfathomably gloomy."  Of course he's gloomy!  He was never allowed to be his own person!  He has never in his life known true freedom, only existed as a vessel to bring that freedom to others!  And he can't really even talk to his closest friends about it, because his closest friends are still his followers, and he wouldn't want to weigh them down!
With that context, it makes all the sense in the world that he'd be so devoted to the man who relieved him of that burden.
Family Situation He loved his mother Yukie a great deal, despite knowing from early on that he was carrying the weight of the title because she believed she couldn’t.  (Perhaps growing up hearing about the martyrdom of Destro’s mother left him wanting to ensure the happiness of his own, for her happiness was very rare.)  He was 10 when she was killed in a Villain attack; she’d been on a daytrip over to a neighboring city to visit some of her erstwhile school friends.  The requisite mourning period was 49 days, and as the only surviving family member, quite a lot fell to him even before considerations of his role as Re-Destro.  it was perceived as better—for both the Army’s morale and for his own stability—for him to be involved with as much of the work of transition as possible, but obviously he couldn’t do it completely alone, nor should he.  Thus, for two months after Yukie’s death, the previous generation's Sanctum[i] stayed with him in his family home. Afterward, he moved in with Anchor (one of his grandfather's advisors), where he would spend the rest of his young adulthood until moving away for college.
Claustrophobia The name of that literal-iron-maiden deathtrap he brings to bear against Shigaraki is no coincidence: Rikiya developed claustrophobia over the course of a stint of abusive training when he was thirteen. He generally has a pretty good handle on disguising it, thanks to a combination of people being unwilling to ask him questions they don’t actually want the answers to and the fact that he had to learn how to operate through it in order to complete the training at all. He has never told anyone, largely because he’s never been able to recognize that it was abuse, and so his abuser remains a figure of some influence.
Education He was largely taught by private tutors, in his home and in theirs, rather than attending school, but I think he probably wasn't completely home-schooled.  Particularly once he'd decided that he did want to attend university—and not just some little local technical program, but a major school in a proper city—he probably attended classes a few times a week at his local high school just to get a feel for being around other people his own age. He'd been friends with Koku for several years by that point, otherwise he probably would have been pretty hopeless, but he was still a pretty odd duck by the time he got to university.
This, incidentally, is why he never pushed Geten too hard about school—his own experience of it was so weird and piecemeal that he mostly thinks of school as relevant only for the education it provides, and less so the crash course in social dynamics.  Since Geten doesn't care about getting an education (nor, indeed, about learning how not to be a rude little troll), and has a strong enough quirk that he'll never lack for a position in the Army even without a formal education, Rikiya is perfectly happy to let Geten have his way and just be minimally learnèd.
Stress His powers operate by infusing his body with the characteristic black matter of his manifested stress; he can increase his size with this (his so-called Liberated Form isn't just armored up; he becomes physically taller and bulkier), as well as throw handfuls of the materialized power.  A side effect of this is that his stress can also infuse itself into his bodily fluids. The stress matter is a highly dense particulate, so if Rikiya is not in proper control of himself, his proverbial blood, sweat and tears can be literally heavy with the weight of his power.
The Value of Life He cares very much about the lives of his followers, but those genuine feelings are filtered through both the mental compartmentalization required by an emotion-based quirk, and an upbringing that taught him to care about his underlings in the same way one would rare goods.  Valuable goods, certainly, goods worth being proud of, goods to be maintained with care, but still, ultimately, things that can be sold or traded or bartered off as necessary to further one's goals.  Even his own life, while "objectively" the most valuable of them all, isn't an exception to that policy—the Great Cause is more important than any individual life, up to and including his own.
On a Personal Note He’s something of an obvious weirdo to outsiders—his enthusiasm comes off as strident, his smiles overly polished—but despite that, he's bizarrely hard to dislike once they start spending real time with him.  He's not anywhere near as prideful about himself as he is the legacy of the MLA, for a start; he's actually pretty self-deprecating when he's not performing the whole Heir of Destro's Great Bloodline routine at people.  He's also happy to go along with other people sharing their hobbies (because he doesn't have any of his own).  The more you get to know him, the more obvious it becomes that he's a total basket case, but “total basket case” is still an improvement over “self-absorbed 1%-er CEO” that people like Spinner come in expecting.
What Are Boundaries? He has very little understanding of how to enforce boundaries around his private life, or, indeed, of why such boundaries might ever be necessary.  Oh, he can do the double life thing, keep the CEO of Detnerat separate from the Grand Commander of the Metahuman Liberation Army, but when it comes to the MLA itself, he's so groomed to devote himself to the cause that he doesn't really distinguish between the responsibilities of Re-Destro and the needs of Yotsubashi Rikiya.  Rather than being the egomaniac you might expect of a man with the absolute power over others he has, he instead struggles to assert himself as his own person at all.
Issues with boundaries are not uncommon with the MLA—they're all raised to see themselves as warriors to advance the cause before they are, like, “human beings”—but Rikiya’s are particularly exacerbated because he was raised by adults who were getting pretty paranoid about his bloodline's tendency to die young, and thus were always checking in on how he was doing, dictating his schedule, weighing in on his plans, and so on.  He just wasn’t raised with reasonable expectations for privacy.  Even as an adult, he'll give his apartment door code to pretty much anyone in the MLA who has even a semi-plausible reason to want it—certainly quite a few of the elders know it!  And it isn’t only the elders, either; Rikiya's phone and several of his accessories carry tracking chips courtesy of Skeptic, which Rikiya knows about and doesn't think is at all untoward.
While his experience dating Koku definitely taught him some hard lessons about how much he could allow himself to ask of people who would obey him without question (they broke up over Rikiya’s realization that Koku would never deny him anything, thanks to a cracked rib Koku didn’t see fit to tell Rikiya about until Rikiya hugged him a little too hard), he never learned how to value his own autonomy in turn.  Oh, he's the Grand Commander, and everyone around him has been raised to venerate his bloodline, so most of them would never even think about trying to take advantage of him as such, but it's absolutely the case that people who are bold or familiar enough to try can basically run right over him with minimal efforts made at obscuring the fact.  His life is full of people who do and have done exactly that, some to a net positive effect, and some—well.  See again the entry about his claustrophobia.
The abjectly terrible state of his sense of self-worth is also the reason the Claustro exists.  While he was relatively capable of trying to work around his phobia when he was younger, the older he got, the more it started to feel like leaving doors cracked behind him or only working in offices with big spacious floor plans and oversized windows was, in some way, Letting Down The Cause by allowing his fear to control him, rather than embracing it so he could properly stockpile it for later use.  A dinnertime chat with Curious about turning one’s trauma into a weapon for the good of others catalyzed this, leading to the development of the “burden-enhancing steel pressure mechanism,” Claustro.
(It also means the clone of him made by Twice to handle Detnerat after Deika is bizarrely okay with its circumstances, which I will almost certainly write more about one of these days, but I’m still kind of reeling from that reveal, so more on that another time.)
Lightning Round
Religion?   He doesn't identify as being of a religious faith, but he was brought up in the same peaceful marriage of Shinto and Buddhism that the majority of Japanese people are, and like many, he adheres to a number of traditional practices more out of habit than devout faith.  There are two celebrations that demand significant emotional investment from him.  First comes the New Year's celebrations, important because the MLA prides itself on looking to a brighter, freer future, and it's a period when he can let himself think that maybe he'll be just that little bit closer to Liberation by the end of the year than he was at the start.  Second is Obon, a summer festival for honoring one's departed ancestors. Since his authority and his life's work derive entirely from his bloodline, he's obligated to care about this one, though in practice, he tends to shy away from thinking much about Destro (who he has very twisted-up feelings about indeed) in favor of less emotionally fraught waters.
What did he dream of being or doing as a child? Did that dream come true?   He never really had a significant period where he thought about being e.g. an astronaut or a doctor or a hero; in fact, it came as something of a surprise to him the first time Koku asked him what he was planning to do when he grew up.  He always just had the nebulous expectation of, "Be the Grand Commander," and the elders were happy to leave it at that until he brought it up on his own.[ii]
How does he behave around children? He likes kids!  He’s wistful about the freedom enjoyed by happy children while also being sympathetic to ones that seem overly burdened.  He’s not the most natural person in the world with them, but most of them can tell that the awkwardness comes from a well-intentioned place, and will treat him as a funny-looking man who’ll let them bother him at length without getting mean.  It turns out he’s actually pretty good with them, then, if only by virtue of being easily bullied.  (This, notably, goes for non-MLA-affiliated children.  Everything’s much more formal within the cult, though it didn’t Geten long to suss out the “easily-bullied” part, either.)
Trumpet—
General Thoughts The largest factor in how I write Koku is, of course, the headcanon that he and Rikiya are ex-lovers, and neither of them is 100% over it even all these years later.  Beyond that, though, Koku is the most temperate of the group, the one with the most easy charisma (MLA members are more swayed by Re-Destro, but Koku does better with outsiders who aren't predisposed to hanging on Rikiya's every word).  He strives to come off as The Sensible One, and given the extremes the rest of the inner circle are capable of, it's not hard for him to maintain that title.  He's as messed up as any of them, though, second only to Rikiya in levels of childhood grooming.  He thinks of himself as a practical man, but he is deeply indoctrinated, the boundaries of his expectations very much defined by his upbringing, so he never really sees it coming when he gets clobbered by something from out of left field.
Family Situation: Koku has the largest family of the identified members.  Aside from his grandfather (called Old Man Hanabata, the founder of the Hearts & Minds Party, and passed away by the canon era), Koku has cousins, nieces, nephews and more, courtesy of his uncle, his older sister and her husband, and other extended family.
He’s also the member most accustomed to wealth, power and influence.  He's from a rural area, certainly, but being in a family of hereditary politicians (and with that family not suffering a string of untimely deaths and disappearances like Rikiya's did), he was raised from the start with ready access to money and nice things.  Still, for all his family's sway in a major branch of the MLA's operations, they're not First Families, and thus don't have any elders in their ranks, making them still somewhat subordinate to said elders when it comes to orders about the Great Cause.  (He’s working on it.)
Meeting Re-Destro Koku and Rikiya met at 12 and 10 respectively, when Koku tagged along with Old Man Hanabata for a meeting RD was likewise accompanying Anchor for.  It had been the better part of a year since Rikiya's mother passed away, but he was still strikingly melancholy for a boy that age, which—along with all the weight given to the importance of the meeting—left quite an impression on Koku.  Koku thus became Rikiya's first real friend in his own age group, a friendship heartily encouraged by everyone around them.  Koku was well-behaved, intelligent, a little older but not too much so, and set to become influential without a danger of becoming too influential; he was seen as a good choice for a friend.[iii]
The Break-Up Painful as it was at the time, there was a silver lining to his and RD's post-college break-up: it got Koku out of the elders' pocket.  He’s been groomed for one thing or another all his life, but after he became friends with Rikiya, he was always getting leaned on to report back to the First Families about how Re-Destro was doing, and to try to influence him towards actions the First Families approved of.  In a very real sense, Koku was part of the apparatus keeping Rikiya from any real freedom.  Their break-up and subsequent estrangement meant that the elders had far less to breathe down Koku's neck about, and by the time they reconciled, Trumpet had gotten his feet under him, as had Re-Destro, and they were both better able to fend off such background meddling.
This doesn't mean Trumpet's not still carrying a torch, however.  He thought he was handling his long-banked feelings pretty well—being Professional, being the advisor Re-Destro needed and as much a friend as Rikiya would allow—right up until Rikiya scared the life out of him by nearly dying in Deika.  He's all but glued himself to Rikiya since, as much as he can get away with given their respective responsibilities.
As an Advisor Other than leading the HMP, he does some work with internal politics and reputation. It's not, strictly speaking, his actual job as advisor—Re-Destro or the elders would probably be sought for more formal or critical mediations—but he and the people who report directly to him do enough travelling around to see constituents that they're often in a position to field those tensions before they get big enough to require attention from higher up.  Koku's happy to do so, in fact—not because he just loves handling petty arguments about resources, but because the HMP is a faction of the MLA in and of itself, and mediating is a boost to that faction's standing and autonomy.  (Also, it's that much less on Rikiya's ever-overburdened plate.)
Lightning Round
What would he do if he needed to make dinner but the kitchen was busy?Ahahahahaha, “make dinner but the kitchen was busy,” please.  Any time there could feasibly be someone else occupying a kitchen he has any business being in himself, it would be a housekeeper, and s/he would be making food for him/his family.  It’s not as though Trumpet has never cooked—he did live alone for some years after school—but outside of a scant few years in university, there’s never really been a time that kitchen use overlap would have been a problem for him.
Favorite indulgence and feelings surrounding indulging. Probably gourmet cuisine, especially imported stuff. He’s had tailored clothes all his life; they’re just part of the job.  Expensive alcohol also doesn’t wow him; it wouldn’t be strange to find some sake maker whose family has been doing it for sixteen generations in the village he grew up in.  It’s a lot harder to cultivate a true gourmand’s palate out in the sticks, though, no matter how rich your family is.  Living in actual civilization affords a great deal more variety—and anyway, nice dinners are one of the few things he can reliably tempt Rikiya into accepting.  As to his feelings about indulging in general, he’s broadly For It.  He works very hard, he seldom gets real time off, and it doesn’t help the Great Cause for him to deny himself nice things, unlike some people.  (He’s maybe a bit bitter.)
Does he like to be the center of attention all of the time? Not especially.  Oh, he’s very good at it, certainly, and he doesn’t dislike it, but being the center of attention is practically always going to be tied up in The Great Work, so he desperately needs to get out of the spotlight from time to time, if only to be able to turn off the persona.
Curious—
General Thoughts There are two main factors in how I write Chitose: her practicality and her rapaciousness.  I write her as having an appreciation for good moral character in other people, especially when it makes a good story, but not considering herself particularly bound by conventional morality: her moral compass is Liberation, and she follows it unswervingly.  I also write her as predatory, lusty about a lot of things, often to the point of overstepping.  It doesn't hurt anyone that she likes hearty foods and strong alcohol, but she also doesn't have much regard for peoples' boundaries, and even less so when she thinks they have something to offer the Great Cause.
While that trait isn't without its benefits, it can get pretty ugly, too, as we see in how she treats, and talks to, Toga.  Even with Rikiya, the only person she thinks of as 'above' her in any meaningful sense, she's not at all above manipulation.  She's respectful of him, but knows him too well to always take him at his word.  He plainly can't always see what's best for him, but what's best for him is best for Liberation, and therefore, as a Liberation warrior, it's her responsibility to sometimes make decisions for him.  He'll appreciate it in the long run—he always does.  (Skeptic and Geten have similar views—Rikiya makes it easy.)
Family Situation She probably has the best actual relationship with her family of the group—her mothers are removed enough from the heart of MLA politics that her relationship with Rikiya doesn't color her family life the way Koku's does his, and she's much more sociable than Skeptic or Geten.  She doesn't get home much—just the major holidays, work permitting—but she's in frequent enough communication for a grown woman, and chats with her younger sister more often than that.
Meeting Re-Destro She met Rikiya properly when they were 21 and 27 respectively.  They were living in the same city at the time (him running Detnerat, her in university), so of course she'd seen him at the odd MLA event he turned up at, but when she landed an internship in her junior year, she cheekily turned up one day in her reporter capacity to interview him as “a local rising star of industry.”  It was the first chance they'd had to talk one-on-one, and would not be the last, as she frankly elbowed her way into his life and gradually sussed out that here was a man with Problems.  He and Koku were still in a distant patch at the time; she is largely responsible for getting them back on friendly terms as a way of showing her Pure Intentions.
The fact that her Pure Intentions both land her a square position as one of RD's advisors herself and get Rikiya to a better place emotionally is calculated, but not, therefore, untrue.  Ironically, while she was concerned about looking like a gold-digger, the MLA elders were probably thrilled and relieved to hear rumors that Rikiya was getting romantically involved again.  And with a lovely young MLA woman!  They wouldn't even need to worry about surrogacy arrangements!  (Not having grown up around the Yotsubashis, Chitose is unaware of exactly how pointed an interest the elders take in the matter of securing that bloodline.)
Feelings Today She loves Rikiya dearly, and prizes his regard more highly than anything in her life, but has not devoted much thought to the idea of being in love with him. She's married to her work, as they say, but she's also keenly aware that Rikiya would, for a great many reasons, be a lot of work to be in love with.  She's decided it's generally better for his mental well-being, and therefore also better for the Great Cause (she’s much more capable of reading that relationship reciprocally than Rikiya is), to make sure he's eating at least one good meal a week and getting some proper socialization in outside of MLA meet-and-greets.
As an Advisor She handles external politics and reputation--it's her job to prime Japan culturally for the Liberation agenda in ways more wide-reaching than Trumpet (he's head of a political party, and that's not nothing, but that party is still a small minority on the floor of the Diet).  She pulls attention to stories that benefit the MLA, and diverts attention from stories that don't.  This is far broader than just publishing Destro's memoir; it also means poking holes in the broader Hero Society narrative.  She does this by providing as broad a platform possible for stories about the tragedies of excessive regulation, the evils of quirk-related bias, the abuses of power heroes are capable of, and so on.
Lightning Round
Does she remember names or faces easier? She’s quite good with both, actually, but I’d give names the advantage because she works primarily with written rather than visual mediums.  (Also, BNHA names being the ridiculous puns that they are, you can probably tell more about a person in HeroAca Land by analyzing their name than their face anyway.)
Is she more concerned with defending her honor, or protecting her status? Her status, absolutely.  Impugning her honor hurts no one but her; she can laugh that off because honor is a silly social construct anyway.  Threatening her status is a much more dangerous prospect—her status is long-cultivated to enable the advancement of Liberation ideology; it lets her keep an eye on Re-Destro, who needs as many people looking out for him as he can get; it’s what she’s worked for all her life. Curious will fuck you up if you threaten her status.
In what situation was she the most afraid she’d ever been? The time she got in trouble for nearly exploding some dude’s face off for stealing her purse.  She was 17, had spent very little time in non-Liberated territory before, and was not raised to wait on heroes to solve her problems.  She wasn’t afraid of the thief or the hero, really, but she was completely terrified that she might have just blown over half a century of secrecy by not performing Helpless Civilian well enough. The terror was pretty convincing to the police interviewing her about it, anyway.  On the whole, it was a very valuable learning experience!
Skeptic—
General Thoughts Tomoyasu is a character I haven't written extensively yet, but what I think is most interesting about him so far is the contrast of his hyper-modern methods with the bone-deep zealotry for the cause.  See, Rikiya, Koku and Chitose all grew up in the sticks; Rikiya and Koku had money from a young age, but it was old money, tied up in trusts.  (Geten didn't have any of those, but Geten's a different story for other reasons.)  Tomoyasu grew up in a major city from the start; he was a technological prodigy from practically as soon as he could hold a tablet.  He has very little respect for the old ways of doing things when he knows there are newer, better ways of advancing the Cause. However, none of that makes him more likely to break from the MLA's ranks—if anything, his idiosyncratic approach just causes him to approach Liberation in really weird ways, ways no one else would ever come up with.
Pressganging Bubaigawara Jin based on a plan to clone Re-Destro?  Who else would that ever even occur to, much less such that it became the basis for an elaborate psychological assault?  But that's Skeptic in a nutshell—respect the old for what it did at the time, but don't think that means you have to use the same methods they did forever as you pick up the torch to carry it forward.
Family Situation He has an amicable but not intimate relationship with his family.  His parents are very proud of what he's done for the cause and how he won the confidence of Re-Destro, but they don't make much claim to understand how his mind works.  In turn, he recognizes the value of their support over the years—he certainly made a lot of waves with his unabashed venom for the MLA leadership's hidebound traditionalism, and his parents' staunch backing meant a lot for him being able to take the stands he did—but is not very emotionally close with them.  Might find himself with an older brother, if I ever occasion to write about his family situation in more depth.
Education He graduated a four-year university program for getting his computer science degree in two very intense years, during which he did virtually nothing for the Great Cause, his intention being to better position himself for maximum ability to advance Liberation afterward.  See above re: battles his parents fought for him while he was busy modernizing.
Meeting Re-Destro He met Re-Destro via Curious.  He was 22, just a year out of university and already climbing the chain of command at a young telecommunications company.  Rikiya was 33, working on the Claustro, and needed proprietary comms built to a higher standard of security than Detnerat was focused on.  Curious, who was always better positioned to be keeping up with the local personalities, introduced them.
Tomoyasu attempted to keep a civil tongue in his head the first few times he and RD met, but he'd been running on bile and energy drinks for years by that point and was hard-pressed to stop just because he was meeting his Grand Commander.  If anything, finding out that Rikiya was okay with his direction and his mouth eventually helped him chill the fuck out, marginally.
On that note, Skeptic is absolutely the advisor most willing to backtalk Rikiya right to his face.  (Rikiya loves him for it.)  Oh, he'll still accede to Rikiya's wishes, and Re-Destro's orders are his highest priority, but that doesn't mean he feels obligated to be diffident about it.  Like Curious, he has a highly developed sense of, "It's fine if it's for the greater good," which will and has led to him taking things into his own hands when he thinks he knows best (which is always).  He's not going to explicitly disobey orders, but he will creatively interpret them if he feels strongly about them, and he will try to "anticipate" orders before anyone has time to give him specific ones, the better to tailor his efforts towards proving his methods and goals correct rather than being stuck with orders he hates.
On Names I’ve definitely evolved some in my approach on this since I started writing the MLA cast, but at current, Skeptic and Geten are the only ones I consistently write as using and thinking mainly in terms of code names rather than given names.  Trumpet is too familiar with the public/private divide, and has too much intimate history with Rikya-the-person, to default to Re-Destro; Curious is too trained to look for The Human Heart of the Story.  Re-Destro himself, ever since breaking up with Koku, has always tried to use code names for people (himself excluded, because he has enormous self-confidence issues about measuring himself up to the original Destro), but can slip into given names when he’s vulnerable.  To Skeptic and Geten, though, the code name is the real name, for all intents and purposes.  The cover identity is a fake; the whole point of the code name is that you’re proving yourself worthy of taking up your proper place in the Army.  Of course the name you win for yourself is the name that counts.
Lightning Round
Given a blank piece of paper, a pencil, and nothing to do, what would happen? You’d pretty much have to lock him in a room with nothing but paper and pencil in it for that to be his first resort rather than whatever item of personal electronics he’d otherwise have on his person.  But assuming some actual plausible scenario—couldn’t bring his electronics into a government building, let’s say—he would find trying to do something productive on paper and pencil rather beneath him, and he’s an inveterate fidgeter.  I mostly see him folding that ludicrously tall frame of his into a chair and setting to using the pencil to poke about three hundred holes in the sheet of paper, meticulous and orderly, while muttering complaints to himself the whole time until something annoys him a bit too much and he jabs the whole pencil through the page.
Who does he see as his best friend?  His worst enemy? I headcanon him having a very reasonable, functional, productive relationship with his No. 1 advisor, Red, and being reasonable, functional, and productive probably goes a lot farther on making you Skeptic’s “friend” than any amount of emotional intimacy.  But “best friend” is not really the kind of language Skeptic uses for his relationships; if you were to ask him who his best friend is, he’d probably tell you, “Iced coffee.”  As to his worst enemy, that’s just whoever is annoying him most on any given day, from difficult clients, to people annoying Re-Destro, stodgy elders, that hero grinning like a tool, that couple walking too slow in front of him on the sidewalk, etc. And Skeptic is pretty proactive about dealing with enemies, as much as he can be.
Has he ever been bitten by an animal? How was he affected (or unaffected)? lol he is a city boy and always has been.  He probably tried to pet a stray cat once out of curiosity, and because it seemed like the sort of thing people did, and then has never forgiven Animals In General when it bit him and then ran off.
Geten—
General Thoughts Another one I haven’t written a great deal about yet, particularly in the present day, though I’m looking for that to change soonish.  One thing I’d like to explore is Geten when he’s not seething with rage and shame because he failed to bring Re-Destro a victory in Deika. The fandom tends to write Geten as an always-angry attack dog barely contained beneath a chilly veneer, and that’s fair—ever since we got the face reveal, ever since the MLA’s defeat at Shigaraki’s hands, Geten has been an always-angry attack dog barely contained beneath a chilly veneer.
But if you look at Geten from before we knew what was under the hood, you find a different story.  “Chilly and angry all the time” is not at all how he acted when he was fighting Dabi!  At that point, he was talkative, even chatty.  He engaged in a lot of snide smack-talk; he was obviously confident in himself and he spoke very proudly of the MLA as a collective.
He was still quiet at the dinner he attended with Rikiya and his advisors, yes, so I don’t think Geten’s done some kind of full 180 on characterization.  I do, however, think that Geten has a sense of humor in there, has a sense of camaraderie with the MLA rooted in more than just his relationship with Re-Destro, even if Re-Destro is obviously his most important person.  I don’t know if we’ll ever see that in the manga proper, given everything that’s happened, but it’s worth remembering in terms of what Geten is like when he’s solely among allies.
Family Situation Orphaned at a young age, and a problem child from then on.  He passed through a series of foster parents and state facilities before eventually crossing paths with the leader of the local MLA branch in Kesseru, Beacon (more on him next time).  This encounter would lead to him being sent to a group home with a reputation for being good with such difficult cases, giving them Structure and Companionship and Meaningful Work.  (Spoilers: It’s Liberation.)
Despite evening out considerably after a significant meeting with Re-Destro when he was 7[iv], Geten never got particularly close to his adopted family/the other kids at the group home.  He's very favored by the Grand Commander, for one thing, and he has the strongest quirk in the home for another—and since he learned the quirk supremacist stuff from them, that’s a pretty significant part of the dynamic!  Both of these factors mean there's some distance between him and the rest. Still, he's not on bad terms with them—indeed, his foster parents are quite proud of him—and he would probably tear out someone's throat with his teeth for threatening them, if only as a matter of pride.
There are 4-6 other kids there at any given time; for the bulk of his young adulthood, there were two older than him, the others younger.  He doesn't have much time for Big Brother Pastimes, but is not completely immune to them, either, particularly where the youngest kids are concerned.  His tolerance for Little Brother Antics, however, is nonexistent—if the older kids think they can ruffle his hair and treat him like a kid, they can square the fuck up; he is Number One around here and don’t forget it.
Education Geten never went to school, but he's not completely uneducated.  He had some tutoring in the group home, some more from Re-Destro personally, and has a pile of books he keeps at his bedside, mostly strategic in nature.  He finds them vexing at times, but is slowly reading through them anyway because Re-Destro asked him to.  He’s been a bit more diligent about it since he was made a regiment leader, because lord knows Dabi isn't contributing much.
On Re-Destro Re-Destro became fond of Geten for the same reason he became fond of Skeptic and Curious—Geten was willing to push back.  He really did make some attempts early on to keep Geten at a proper distance, mindful of anything that would look too much like favoritism.  And Geten knew, in the hard-headed way of a child, that Re-Destro was being a grown-up about things, trying to be mature, trying to be impartial.  Geten just didn’t care about any of those things.  Every time, he would listen very seriously to the things Rikiya told him, nod attentively, repeat back what he’d been told, and then go on about doing his own thing anyway.  And his own thing was, typically, to keep coming back.
Of course, if there’s anything we can tell about Re-Destro from the way he treats Shigaraki, it’s that Re-Destro loves people who take the choice away from him.
Eventually, of course, Geten grew up (mostly; I peg him at 19 now), joined the MLA officially, and had to settle into the structure of the Army.  It began to lead to trouble for Re-Destro, when Geten blatantly disobeyed him; it stopped being cute.  Still, the sense that he Knows What’s Best lingers, so Geten works himself very, very hard to be everything Re-Destro needs him to be and more, so that maybe Re-Destro’s burden will be just that little bit lighter.
On Quirk Supremacy (and Re-Destro, still) Here’s the thing about Geten and the whole, “A life without a strong meta-ability has no value,” line, and this continues to drive me mad because of how people getting it wrong influences the bad takes on the MLA in this fandom: Geten is not a reliable witness.  He is not one of the leaders of the MLA, nor does he speak for its rank and file. Even if you assume the absolute worst about his implications there, far worse than is justified by the text, Geten’s very name, Apocrypha, means that he cannot be presumed to be aligned with MLA orthodoxy.
The only one of the people close to Re-Destro who wasn't born and raised MLA, he still manages to come off, in some ways, as the most zealous of the lot of them.  But really, it’s very noticeable that Geten—unlike Re-Destro himself, and unlike even Re-Destro’s close cohort—never talks about the original Destro, never even mentions him.  When he thinks about his leader, he only ever thinks about Rikiya.  Geten doesn’t follow Re-Destro because of his bloodline, because of the tenets; he follows Re-Destro because of personal loyalty.[v]
So how best to do that?  Well, think about it: Geten is not terribly intelligent, nor wealthy, nor well-connected. He and Trumpet are the ones most influenced by the quirk supremacist line of thought, Trumpet because his relatively weak quirk comes off as exponentially stronger the more he can surround himself in people it works on, and Geten because his strong quirk lets him mentally justify Re-Destro's investment in him despite his other insufficiencies.
Compare this with Re-Destro, who only ever talks about quirks in terms of freedom. Even more prominently, look at Skeptic and Curious, who are not at all defined by their quirks and how strong or weak said quirks may be.  Indeed, those two devote scarcely a thought to the matter because they contribute to the cause in much more important ways and seem to be perfectly comfortable with where that leaves them.
Geten may not be very smart or influential, but he’s very capable of looking at what strengths he does have and focusing hard on those.  That, I think, is what really lead to his embracing quirk supremacy, even in the face of evidence that he doesn’t have the whole picture: the search for a way to measure himself up to the movers and shakers Rikiya is otherwise surrounded with, and not come up drastically wanting.
“Apocrypha” Geten has been Geten for a long time, since long before the MLA types usually take up their code names. He’s also an outlier in the MLA for having a name in Japanese instead of in English—the only one who does!  My headcanon, unless and until we get some other members with Japanese code names, is that he got the name directly from Re-Destro—possibly even in the conversation that lead to him imprinting so hard on the man when he was 7—and insisted on keeping it before any other code name that was suggested to him in later years.
But yes, he does have a normal Japanese name on file at the group home, which he’s obligated to answer to on the rare occasions that someone from Child Services is checking in or he and Re-Destro are out in public.  I don’t plan to bother coming up with it unless I need to, as I expect we’ll get it in a character profile one of these days.
His Quirk While a lot of people like the vibe of Geten and Dabi being somewhat equivalently vulnerable to their own quirks, and I agree it makes for good fanart, in truth, Geten is only as vulnerable to his ice as Endeavor is his flames.  Which is to say, he isn't immune, but he's certainly more resistant to it than the average person would be!  There’s already plenty of good material to contrast Dabi and Geten without pretending their quirks are more mirrored than is actually the case.
Lightning Round
How does he treat people in service jobs? He doesn’t, because he’s never in a position to interact with people in service jobs.  There have been times he’s gone out with Re-Destro, but in those cases he’s mostly let Re-Destro handle the human interaction.
What does he dislike in other people? Laziness; the lack of a higher purpose of some kind.  (It’s possible he’d thaw out on his disdain for Dabi considerably if he knew more about Dabi’s plans to undermine the whole of the Hero System than Dabi is inclined to tell him.)
Is he always there for a friend in need? Sure, as long as by “friend” you mean “fellow Liberation warrior” and by “need” you mean “in need of an icicle punched through one of someone else’s desperately fleshy body parts.”
Footnotes
[i]  Sanctum II's tastes being what they are, this probably means Rikiya is the MLA member most likely to be able to perform traditional Japanese tea ceremony.
[ii]  And there were elders who would have been happy to leave it at that permanently, I'm sure.  There are always going to be those regents who have trouble relinquishing power back to the boy prince when he grows up and becomes king, you know?
[iii]  And, when it eventually got out that they were dating, a relatively solid match, give or take the surrogacy arrangements that would eventually need to be made.
[iv]  I’m hoping canon gives us some details on this eventually, so I’m not planning to iron out more headcanon on the matter unless I absolutely have to.
[v]  This, incidentally, is a large part of why Rikiya does keep him around—it’s soothing to have someone around who never brings up his ancestor.  Anyway, after Geten evolved his quirk, people stopped complaining so much, even though RD never did get around to, like, giving Geten any formal responsibilities.  Geten, who knows very well that Re-Destro’s real advisors have real jobs, mostly took this as reason to be all the stronger, in hopes that he’d eventually be given one.

I fled down to the banks of the river that wound itself through the forest, desperately trying to hold back the salty tears attempting to trail down my face.  The sun glinted brightly off its happily dancing waves; a happiness that I couldn't share.
Falling to my knees on the sandy shoreline, I took deep shuddering breaths as I hid my face in my hands, cursing the day I had decided to join this Company.
Had I known what fate awaited me, I wouldn't have gone along with the wizard.  Not if I only got my heart broken time and time again.
But would you have?  My heart whispered softly, would you really have thrown away the chance to gaze upon the Dwarrow you would love with my entirety?  Would you have been willing to throw that away just to save me from being broken?
"No," I whispered hoarsely. "No, I wouldn't have."
The gentle murmurs of my heart brought back a memory of when I had innocently asked my foster mother if she would have rather not met her husband; if only to save herself from the pain she felt.  A sad smile had woven its way across her delicate features and she shook her head slowly.
"No, Estel.  Never.  I wouldn't trade those moments with my husband for anything in the world.  As the Wise Ones say; it is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all, pinig.  Never be afraid to love because you might lose it."  She had told me, and her words struck a deep chord within me.
Tears streamed more readily down my face, and I finally let everything that had built up for so long inside me break free.  Deep sobs shook my body, and I wrapped my arms around myself, seeking a source of comfort.
"Miss Estel?  Are you alright?"  A rumbling voice broke through my sobs, and I glanced up to the haze of my tears to see Thorin standing above me, looking down at me with concerned sapphire orbs.
Well, that was a change.  Since when did he care about me?
As he took in my tear-stained face and heard my heavy sobs, he hurried to kneel beside me, peering closer at my face.  "What did Dwalin say to you?  Why are you crying?"  He asked gruffly, but I shook my head, wiping at my cheeks and sniffing.
"It's nothing, Master Thorin.  I just need to be by myself for awhile."  I muttered, but Thorin made no move to leave me.  Instead, he just made himself comfortable, staring out across the river in silence.
His lack of words left me time to think more about what I needed to do.  Perhaps it was time to let him know that I would leaving his company as soon as we reached a town.  Maybe that would bring a smile to his gruff features.
But there was still another question I needed an answer to.  Turning towards Thorin, I was surprised to already find him looking at me.  "Master Thorin?  What does 'amrâlimê' mean?  Can you tell me?"  I asked softly, watching as sapphire blue eyes widened slightly.
Thorin's chest rose and fell as he took in a deep breath, still maintaining eye contact with me.  Then he let out a long sigh and turned his gaze back towards the river.  "It means 'my love; love of mine'.  It was just a slip of the tongue."  He murmured, and I swallowed hard, battling against the butterflies rising within me.
No, it's too good to be true.  Argued my mind, but my heart pleaded that it was true; that everything was pointing towards it.
In the end, my mind won and I nodded solemnly, avoiding looking at the silent Dwarrow beside me.  "Of course it's just a slip of the tongue; a lie.  It always is."  I murmured, unable to help the hurt that coated my words.  "Just like everything else everyone tells me."
"What do you mean?"  Thorin sounded confused, and I shot a hard glance over at him.
"What do I mean?  I mean all the suggestive words and looks everyone gives me and you.  They tell me that you love me and care so deeply for me, but I don't see it."  I swallowed back a sob, "Eru, I don't see it.  I've looked so hard, and I can't find anything.  And as I told Dwalin; I cannot reciprocate feelings that don't exist."
I trembled as emotion overwhelmed me, blinking rapidly against the tears pricking the backs of my eyes.  Thorin only watched this with wide eyes, his mouth parting slightly as he took in my words.
"Who said I didn't share your feelings?"  He said quietly, and I whirled to look at him, unsure if I was actually hearing this or if I was hallucinating.
"I thought that when I rejected your offer to court me, you put aside your feelings," I murmured, "it sure never seemed like you liked me in any way...  Your words made that quite clear."
"And for that, burushkruka igbulul e...  My words never carried any weight, I swear it."  He said, and I shot him an incredulous look.
"Oh really?  What about when you said that I was 'not going to be more of a burden that I already was'?  How does that not carry any weight?"  I asked, and Thorin looked at me with a raised eyebrow.
"You've never been a burden to me, Estel.  Only the greatest gift Mahal could ever give."  He said quietly, his steel blue eyes gloriously riveting as they bored into mine, and I fought against the blush attempting to stain my cheeks at his obviously heartfelt words.
"Oh."
He continued onwards, moving on.  "I also apologize for how I assumed you would know the Dwarvish courting ritual.  At the time I didn't have any knowledge of your upbringing--"
I interrupted him hesitantly, "you don't care that I was raised by Elves?"  I asked, watching his expression closely.  "That I might act more like an Elf than a Dwarf, or speak their language?"
Thorin shook his head, the hesitant beginnings of a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.  Well, perhaps I didn't have to leave to coax a smile from him.  "No, Amrâlimê...  I will admit that your heritage took me by surprise, but I cannot hold the past against you.  The past is the past; only the future is important."  He said, and I tilted my head slightly, wondering if this was the same Dwarf I had talked to only an hour or so ago.
But Thorin wasn't finished speaking, and the deep tones of his voice brought me back to the present.  "Had I known your lack of knowledge about Dwarvish customs, I never would have presented you with that sword...  I would have tried to make it known in a different way, Estel, and avoided all this misunderstanding."  He said and I smiled, ducking my head.
"You are too kind, Mas--Thorin.  But it is also a bit of my fault as well...  I thought you were offering me the sword as a blunt way of telling me I was a horrible fighter."  I said sheepishly, and Thorin ran a hand through his dark locks, letting out a deep breath.
"Mahal, we really got off on the wrong foot..."  He groaned, "I never would have meant it in that way, Estel.  Truly, I believe you are an excellent fighter that even I could learn something from."  He said; pink beginning to tinge his cheeks.
I smiled, "How humble of you.  Azafr sagshari sabhari, am I right?"  I teased, and Thorin nodded, a soft laugh emerging from his lips and colliding beautifully with the air.  In all honesty, it was the most melodic, beautiful sound I'd ever heard beside the gentle nickers of a mare to her newborn foal.
"Yes, Estel, you are quite right."  He said, "although I had never anticipated saying that about Elven things."
He sobered and hesitantly reached out a large hand to gently engulf mine within its warm and comforting grasp.  "Now perhaps we can try this again?  On the right foot this time?"  He asked softly, reaching down to tug a familiar dagger out of a sheath on his side.
I gasped in astonishment, withdrawing my hand from his to delicately take the dagger from his other hand and trace the Elven designs on the hilt.  "You kept it..."  I murmured, looking up into his twinkling eyes with wonder.
A smile tugged at his bearded cheeks, and he nodded gently.  "Of course.  It was a gift from you, as well as a fine blade."  He said, "and it is very special to you, is it not?"  He asked, and I nodded.
"Very.  It was a present from my Naneth--my mother--before I left Lothlorien with Gandalf to head to the Shire.  I treasure it and its mate very much."  I whispered, hoping that my eyes were doing a good enough job of thanking him as I wasn't sure if I could manage it aloud.
Sheathing it in my belt beside its twin, I encountered a sudden problem.  I didn't own another blade to give to Thorin.
Looking up suddenly, I bit my bottom lip.  "I don't have another blade to--"
Thorin cut me off, raising a hand.  "It is alright, Estel.  I already know where your feelings lie, and you did give me that blade to begin the courtship process."  He said, but I still couldn't lay aside the problem.
"Sure, but you don't have a weapon from me, while I have one from you.  Doesn't that violate something?"  I asked, and Thorin shook his head, chuckling slightly as he gazed at me with soft blue eyes.
"I am a King, Estel.  My word is law.  No one will question our courtship since we are in an unusual situation."  He said, laying his hand on my arm comfortingly.  "Do not worry yourself over it, Amrâlimê."
Gently, his hand gripped my arm and pulled me closer to him until I was suddenly enveloped in his strong arms; tucked under his bearded chin.  "I will care for you, Amrâlimê, if you will let me."  He murmured, and I relaxed against his broad chest, fisting the soft fur of his coat as I snuggled myself into the warmth of his body.
"Damn, had I known you were this warm and furry..."  I groaned, burying my face into his shoulder and breathing in the gamey smell of the fur mixed with the pine and sweat that was Thorin.  "Course you can care for me.  I just want to wear this coat."  I mumbled, and Thorin's chest vibrated as he laughed.
Well, I could get used to this.  Things were a lot more fun when he laughed.
"As you wish, my love."  He said, and I could hear the smile in his voice as his grip around me tightened slightly.
I smiled to myself, content to be held tight in a pair of arms that I now knew would never let me fall.  Before, I had believed they would be the ones to shove me off a cliff, but now I knew differently.
They would hold me tight through the darkest of times, keep me steady whenever I felt like I might fall; and most importantly--never let me go.

Queening a Pawn, 22
If you’re new: this is my procrastination fic. It is what I drabble around with when I’m being my worst self, and ignoring all my other WIPs and responsibilities! Enjoy!
X
Summary: During the Time Heist, Loki stole the Tesseract and escaped. He did not expect, however, to be pulled through a Time Loop that delivered him to a Midgard more than a decade older, wiser, and bitterer. Having just lived through his unsuccessful attack in New York, Loki must learn to live in Midgard after the defeat of Thanos (post-Endgame). The question is, who is Loki without a quest for a throne or total domination?
Pairings: Loki x OC
WARNINGS: Language, fighting, swords, impending doom, nervous throwing up, and entirely fictional traditions that are just... so dumb.
=
It was the clinking noise of metal on metal that caught her attention first. The situation pretty much snowballed from there, but the noise was the first indication.
Delilah had been busy staring at her computer. She was finishing her fiscal year end reports, much to her utter dismay. The only glittering spot in her day had been the unusual side effect from Loki and hers exchange of jewelry. Throughout the day, Delilah would get sucked in by the pleasant buzz in the back of her skull when Loki had a particularly strong emotion. The god could make all of the excuses he wanted about how he felt nonchalant about the children, but the utter fondness that flooded her system most of her work day was the only indication that he was a big fat liar. She had been in the midst of a most pleasant flood of endorphin-filled fondness when the noise pulled her out of her head. Her name in a shout followed immediately after.
"Delilah Vázquez!"
When Delilah glanced up from the copier, she was greeted by the sight of Brunnhilde, in her full Asgardian royal armor and Uru crown. In her hand, she wielded a broadsword, though Dragonfang was sheathed on her hip. The tip of the sword swayed ominously towards her, the warrioress staring her down with intimidating focus. Delilah didn't exactly noticed when she started running, but she was damn sure she was not going to stop.
"DELILAH!"
Pumping her arms, she continued running down the corridor a good thirty paces ahead of Valkyrie. She hated admitting it, but the occasional workout Loki made her do with him was probably the only reason she wasn't a panting, sweaty mess being skewered on the end of a broadsword right now. Lilah knew that she needed to get to the common room. Sam and Bucky had returned from another mission two days ago, so they were probably taking it easy for the next few days. If she could find them–clunk clunk
The heavy footsteps were gaining on her as she skidded into the living room. Bucky jumped, startled out of his nap by the ruckus. He noted only the blurred outline of Delilah running past and ducking behind his chair, but when he finally saw Valkyrie, he took up a defensive pose.
"Out of my way Barnes!" Valkyrie grumbled through clenched teeth. "I came a long way for this, this armor is killing me. Move!"
"Are you out of your damn mind!?"
"Now, Barnes!" When he remained rooted to the spot, she half-heartedly swung the sword in his direction. He parried the blow with his modified arm, engaging her into close combat while Delilah slipped away in the background.
Her escape was not unseen, though Bucky did his best to keep the Asgardian King at bay before he was knocked through several doors with a well-placed kick of her armored boot.
Delilah backed into one of the empty storage rooms. She clamped a hand over her mouth to muffle the sound of her labored breathing. Maybe if she was quiet enough, and kept to the walls, the Valkyrie would think she had run out the emergency staircase. Her hope was short lived, however, the door to the storage room was kicked open with a boom. Quiet as could be, Lilah lowered herself between two empty rows of metal shelves and closed her eyes tightly. And for a moment, her plan was working.
"There you are!"
Emerald eyes snapped open to see the figure of Valkyrie backlit by the harsh, white light of the storage room bulbs. Trembling, Delilah began crawling backwards, mentally calculating her probabilities of making it out before Brunnhilde caught up to her.
A clatter made her start. At her feet, Valkyries sword, Dragonfang, shook and settled while it emitted a harmonious hum. Delilah looked from the sword to the King for a mite too long, it seemed. "Pick it up! Full armor chafes!"
"I-I don't know how–"
"Pick it up and fight me! My laws demand it for satisfaction!" With tentative movements, she grasped the pommel and closed her hand around the grip. "Oh, Norns your grip is fucking awful. Who taught you to swordfight?"
"No one! I don't know how!" Delilah snapped back, lifting the point of the sword off the ground. Her free hand went up to the runic medallions resting on her collarbone. For a protective talisman, they weren't doing a hell of a lot in the way of protecting.
Valkyrie rolled her eyes and raised her own weapon. "You and I will have short battle for the purpose of satisfying our ancient laws in regards to trysts with members of the Royal Family. Do you understand what is required of you? Yes? Great, let's begin."
Before Delilah could even protest that this wasn't being fair to her, Valkyrie had swept her weapon straight down, meeting Dragonfang in her grasp and making her arm shudder all the way to her marrow. With a yelp, Delilah jumped back, trying as hard as she could to avoid the Asgardian's blows. She had successfully pushed the King back and made a short run for it before Valkyrie leapt and landed just short of blocking her path.
The thought that she was going to die crossed Delilah's brain at that instant. As sudden as that realization was to hit her, so was the wispy green smoke to surround her body in a nearly solid mass. It quickly swirled around her before disappearing to a place she thought was in her chest, if the sudden pain was any indication. Valkyrie's eyes darkened, and charged for Delilah, sword raised. Delilah crossed her own weapon in front of her and her free hand braced itself for the incoming attack in front of her.
Just as the blow was to connect, the pain in Lilah's chest exploded outward through her arm. Her open palm, facing Valkyrie and waiting for impact, spewed a dense ball of that same wispy, green smoke that knocked Brunnhilde off her feet. She flew several yards back and landed with a loud thunk on the concrete floor.
"What the fuck is going on!?"
Loki's booming voice was so welcome that Delilah thought she might sob. Actually, she did, because Loki was by her side and wiping her tears away with his thumbs a moment later. He wrapped an arm around her, trying to soothe the violent trembling that was making her teeth knock together painfully. He pried her fingers off the grip of Valkyries sword and reassured her in soft murmurs that she was OK and that she was in no danger.
"I yield. Oh, Frigga in Valhalla, dearest. I yield," Valkyrie gasped, pulling herself back onto her feet.
"What the fuck is going on, Valkyrie?" He repeated, though his voice was low and sounded poisonous.
Brunnhilde pulled a face, rolling her eyes. "What do you mean, what the fuck is going on? You know our laws, Loki. She is not a member of the court and since you've endeavored to make it quite clear that you are both alive and in love with her, she needs to ascend."
Loki stared blankly at the King for a few minutes, no noise being made among the three, before he drew an extraordinarily long breath. "I know that. She does not."
"So?"
His response was perfectly enunciated, each syllable dripping vitriol unlike any Delilah had ever heard. "She thought you were attempting to kill her, you empty-headed troll." His arm gripped Lilah tightly and pressed her securely into his side. She was still trembling, though she had stopped crying. He assumed that the shock was just settling in. They needed to be careful before–
Splat.
"Oops?" Valkyrie looked contrite, especially considering that Delilah was now hunched over, emptying her stomach of any and all contents in the space that existed between the three. "You would think a civilized society would at least teach all of their members to fight properly! She was acting as if it was her first time battling with swords."
"It was… You've been living in Midgard for a long time. How did you not notice they don't swordfight anymore?" With a scoff, he handed a surly Valkyrie back her sword, which she promptly sheathed at her hip.
"Can I at least finish so I can take this ridiculous court armor off?" Loki's eyes cut across with a darkened glare. "She's already doubled over!" He nodded reluctantly and allowed Valkyrie to touch the top of Delilah's head with the flat of her blade. The Midgardian gasped and tensed again and would have continued to be sick were it not for Loki's hand smoothing down her back. "After brave battle, you have earned your place in court. Blah blah blah. I guess you can continue seeing Loki, though the Norns only know why you would choose to do so." Brunnhilde bent over and caught Delilah's eyes, dulled by fear and exhaustion. "Could you do the fist thing really quick?"
With a delirious laugh, Delilah thumped her closed fist over her heart, nearly sobbing when the Asgardian put her arm around her and helped her straighten. "Could you have not sent a message ahead or literally anything before chasing me down wiTH A DAMN SWORD, VALKYRIE!?"
Valkyrie shrugged. "I really did think you guys had better battle training than this. Sorry." The group stepped over Delilah's mess and took back to the corridors. Bucky had been patrolling like a mad man in search for Valkyrie before Loki had told him that he was on it. As they moved past him, Lilah offered him a thumb's up and a thank you. "Did you make her that seidr pendant, Snakeboy?"
Loki helped Delilah sink into one of the chairs in her living quarters, anxiously brushing her hair out of her eyes. "Yes. Did it hurt?"
"Like you wouldn't believe!"
"Good," he replied, deadpan, and Delilah could tell he really meant it. Shortly, he placed a bottle of Gatorade in front of her and kissed her crown. "Drink. You need it." His fingers loosened the chain around her neck and closed it in his fist. "I will bring this right back. Evidently, I need to add a warning for idiot Asgardians on it," he offered before blipping out of existence in her flat.
Valkyrie had pulled off all the heavy, metal armor off her body and sighed with satisfaction. "Did you really think I wanted to kill you?"
"Yes! You only yelled my name and that you demanded satisfaction. I had no clue what was going on."
"I guess not the best warning, I'll admit, but I'd never hurt you. You're the only one in this hell hole I can stand." The Valkyrie nudged Delilah in the ribs until she let out a laugh. When Loki returned, they were sitting on the couch, one arm around each other's waist, giggling. He wasted no time in reattaching the necklace with an adoring smile.
"Since when do you care about tradition and protocols?" Loki asked, offhandedly, sitting on the coffee table opposite Delilah with her free hand in his.
Brunnhilde rolled her eyes. "Since several ladies took offense that they were not informed of the fact that you were alive and demanded tradition be upheld. They're desperate to rise the ranks and go back to being courtesans."
"It's no secret I've never been the preferred prince. So, why bother?"
The warrior sighed. "Because even power and title from the dark prince is still power and title. They'll do anything to grab their share. Now, they can't."
"I'm not in line to serve, though. And it'll be a cold day in hell before I willingly go to New Asgard to live, so it's a moot point." He ran him thumb over the back of Delilah's hand. "Not to mention, I wouldn't take them. Can't exactly marry me by force."
"They'd try," Delilah and Valkyrie replied in unison.
"From what I've read, they've downgraded from a futuristic paradise to a cold strip of land by the sea. It's hard to forget thousands of years worth of privilege. Especially if you've lived the thousands of years." Delilah shrugged. "I don't blame them."
"I'm spoken for," he argued, his lips twitching just the barest bit upwards.
"Well, now you are. You're welcome, by the way," Brunnhilde grumbled, stretching out with a sigh before hopping to her feet. "I have duties to attend to, so I will see you later. My Prince. Princess."
Delilah frowned, watching Valkyrie toss her armor over her shoulder and close the door behind her with a slam. "Princess? There's a new nickname. Can't say it's my favorite."
Loki grinned widely, resting his head on his free hand, propped on his thigh. "You've got no clue what you did today, do you?"
"I don't exactly study Asgardian history in my free time, Lo." There was a long pause before she tacked on, "Why?"
"The challenge you fought was for position in the court as a member of equal measure to the Royal Family."
"I don't follow."
His eyes glittered in mirth. "I'm not surprised. It will make sense soon enough." He leaned forward and kissed her lightly. "Nonetheless, you will always be my Queen in all that matters, Princess. Though getting rid of the Valkyrie would be an easy enough task, should you desire to ascend."
With another kiss, he mentioned something about going to get her some more Gatorade. The words sunk slowly into Delilah's adrenaline-drowned brain. "Wait, are you telling me she just made me a Princess? Like an honest to god, I could have my own Disney movie, Princess? Loki?!"

Hello!! I hope you're well ☺️ I love and save all your Drarry fic recs and was wondering if you could do a rec list for Drarry fics that include well written OCs and who are actually important to the story. My example for this would be The Man Who Lived by SebastianL. Thank you and take care ♥️
Hi anon! I’ve seen better days but thanks for asking, hope you’re doing well! Erm I gotta admit that I don’t really keep track of OCs 😬 it’s nothing against them - I just don’t get too attached and since I usually avoid fics where they get romantically involved with Harry or Draco, I don’t think I’ve read many fics where they’re particularly important to the story. I’m listing just a few fics below (you prob already know them) but I’m sure my followers will be able to help with more recs :)
We Might Be Too Old for a Bildungsroman by @wellhalesbells (2015, Teen and Up, 21k)
Harry finds something he’s been looking for since the war’s end. Admittedly, the packaging’s a bit odder than he expected.
Here's The Pencil, Make It Work by ignatiustrout (2013, Explicit, 50k)
Harry thinks "Why is Malfoy working in a coffee shop in muggle London?" is a much simpler question than, "Are you going to accept that auror offer and, if you don't, what will you do?"
Modern Love by @tackytigerfic (2020, Explicit, 61k)
Harry Potter, of all people, knows that life isn’t always fair. And no one gets to be happy all of the time. But surely there’s something more—something better—than a rubbish Ministry job, and a lonely old house, and that feeling that everyone out there is doing a better job of living than Harry is.
And it really doesn’t seem fair that Draco Malfoy is back in Harry’s life, all of a sudden, and even though he’s wandless, and living with Muggles, and making his mother cry with his lifestyle choices, he’s happy. So what's he doing right, that Harry isn’t? Because things don’t really change, do they? And if Harry can’t be happy, he’ll settle for a good night’s sleep, some posh antiques, and the opportunity to find out what Malfoy has been up to for all these years. And that’s what starts it all.
Headlights in the Snow by Saras_Girl (2016, Mature, 71k)
What’s big and purple and smells like tea? Harry is about to find out.
Wild by orphan_account (2016, Explicit, 92k)
“No,” Harry said, by way of greeting. Malfoy’s blonde head rose slowly, carelessly. “Get out.”
“I feel as though we’ve already established this, Potter,” Malfoy responded. “And I feel that what we established was that you telling me to get out of places really doesn’t make me more likely to vacate them.”
I Am Not Who I Became by mab_di (2019, Explicit, 93k)
Draco left England after the trials and has travelled the world meeting wizards and Muggles from different cultures and with vastly different relationships to magic, each other, and the natural world. Now he's a fisherman in Finland on commercial vessels. Harry has been struggling since the war and has become a recluse while trying to write his autobiography. An invitation to the Hogwarts class of 1998's 15th reunion isn't welcomed by either of them, but neither could predict how the night, and their reunion, will upend their lives.
All Missing Things (Can Be Found) by daisymondays (2017, Explicit, 100k)
After a drunken hook up ends badly, Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy have no intention of ever speaking again -- but when they're assigned to solve a case of young child disappearances, they have to put their past behind them.
All Life is Yours to Miss by Saras_Girl (2013, Mature, 114k)
Professor Malfoy's world is contained, controlled, and as solitary as he can make it, but when an act of petty revenge goes horribly awry, he and his trusty six-legged friend are thrown into Hogwarts life at the deep end and must learn to live, love and let go.
A Secondary Education by Thunderbird587 (2018, Explicit, 234k)
Fleeing the aftermath of his recent divorce, Draco Malfoy takes up a post as the new Potions Master at Hogwarts. At first he believes his hopes for a fresh start are dashed when he sees that a certain boyhood rival is on staff there as well. But Harry Potter is being weirdly nice to him, leaving Draco no choice but to play along. Age: 19 Year: 2013 Location(s): Stanford, CA & Brooklyn, NY Elizabeth was spending her Friday afternoon packing up the last bit of her things that would be shipped back to Brooklyn tomorrow. She planned it so that if they were shipped tomorrow, they would arrive back home two days after she got there. Enough time for her to unpack the stuff she was taking with her on her flight in a couple of days. Elizabeth had successfully completed her first year of college at the University of Stanford. It was the best year of her life. "Hey Liz!" Her roommate, Wanda greeted her. Last summer, Elizabeth received an email from the school telling her who her dorm mate would be, along with the girl's email address. Wanda Maximoff was originally from Sokovia, but she and her family moved to Boston when she was 8 years-old. Both girls instantly clicked. That summer they were constantly in communication with each other. They both went over their excitement and fears of moving across the country. Wanda, like Elizabeth, had never been away from her family for so long, especially her twin brother. They both eased each other's minds, knowing they weren't alone in this journey. Up until her senior year Elizabeth had every intention of not being alone going into college, but in the end that wasn't the case. Steve ended up going to Berkley, and Bucky ended up at NYU. When they finally both moved into their dorm, it was like they had been life long friends. Wanda was pre-med while Elizabeth was pre-law, so they both knew that one another would take priority in their education over partying. Didn't mean they didn't go out to the occasional party, they both just knew the sacrifices their families were making for them to be at an out of state university. "Hey Wand, what's up?" Elizabeth smiled, while continuing to pack. "Are you going to the party at Loki's house?" Loki Odinson was a junior. He was a legacy student, both his parents were Stanford University alumni. They had a house that was only 15 minutes away from campus, Loki and his friends lived there during the semester, before they all fled back to Los Angeles for the summer.
Even though he was rich beyond means, he wasn't a jerk. He was friendly to everyone around him. Everyone wanted to be his friend, and he wouldn't say no to that. When Elizabeth first met him she thought he was flirting with her, and she kind of welcomed the idea of dating someone like him. But she later found out that Loki wasn't into her, or any other females for that matter. He had a long term boyfriend who was going to USC, they took turns visiting each other every weekend. Normally the weekends Loki wasn't having a party were the ones his boyfriend was visiting. Loki was also a law student, so he helped Elizabeth whenever she needed it. He hosted a weekly meeting in the library for freshman students who were law students, it was a way to help them navigate their first year and the stressors that came with it. He was like their big brother. Elizabeth owes a lot to him this year, because she wasn't sure how she would've made it alive without him. "Yeah, I was planning on it," Elizabeth said taping up the final box for the night, "Last party of the school year. Did you want to go together?" "Yes, please," Wanda said, throwing herself onto her bed. Wanda's side of the room was semi-packed up. Her family was flying in the day Elizabeth was flying out. They were renting a RV and taking a road trip across country. Wanda leaned on her elbow facing Elizabeth, and looking around the room, "Wow, you're almost done packing!" "Yup," she said, getting off of the floor and pressing the palms of her hands to her back to let out the cracks from sitting on the floor for a long period of time, "Movers are picking up my things tomorrow to ship back home. The last things I need to pack our the rest of my clothes I have left, but those are all going in my suitcase to take on the flight with me." "Can't wait til the fall where we don't have to be stuck in these dorms," Wanda stretched out on her tiny bed. Wanda and Elizabeth were planning on getting an apartment next semester at one of the student housing apartment complexes next to the campus. As much as they enjoyed the dorms, having their own privacy would be so much better. Without the constant interruptions from other people on their floor, or from having to share a bathroom with the whole floor. It will be nice to have their own space. They both took on little jobs on campus during the school year, and had planned to also work the entire summer to save up some money. Their parents had agreed to help with the rent, as long as both Wanda and Elizabeth kept up a 3.7 GPA and had jobs to pay for the necessities they would be needing. It was a great deal that they couldn't pass on. "What are you going to wear tonight?" Elizabeth asked Wanda, as she stood in front of her small closet, which now was only half filled. "My lucky red dress," Wanda smiled, "Rumor has it Loki's older brother Thor will be there tonight." Thor was Loki's older brother. He was a senior at Berkley, which was only about an hour drive away. Thor was an Environmental studies major, who was also the captain of the Cal Bears Field Hockey team. He was the complete opposite of Loki when it came to their looks, and taste in genders. He was a bit taller than Loki, had a ton more muscles, long blonde hair, and the times Elizabeth and Wanda had seen him, he had a full grown beard. He looked very intimidating at first glance, but he was actually just a giant bear. Like Loki, he just wanted to be everyone's friend, and just wanted to make sure everyone around him was having a good time. They were clearly both raised by the same parents. Elizabeth laughed out loud, "Wanda, please tell me you're not planning on trying to hook up with him tonight." "Duh, hence my lucky red dress," Wanda got out of bed and grabbed the red dress hanging from her closet, "This dress is magic, okay. It hasn't failed me yet." Wanda's red dress became her "lucky red dress" after she aced her first exam, and hooked up with a cute sophomore she had been eyeing, all on the same day. Whenever she needed luck on her side, she wore the dress. During finals she wore it the entire week, washing it in between each day, they wouldn't be getting their results back for a few more days, but Wanda knew she had done well. Elizabeth didn't bother to try and belittle the lucky dress, because even she might have worn it a few times and had gotten good results. "Plus, seeing as Thor is graduating next week it might be the last time I see him, so go big or go home," Wanda smiled proudly.
_______________________
A few hours later Wanda and Elizabeth found themselves walking up to Loki's house. At night the house might've reminded those in passing of a fraternity house, but in the daylight it was completely not. The yard was always perfectly manicured. The exterior reminded Elizabeth of a house in the Hamptons, while the interior was something straight out of a interior design magazine. It was definitely not a house made for college aged boys.
Wanda was dressed in her lucky red dress, with a pair of black booties, and a leather jacket. Her hair was in loose curls falling down her back. She kept her makeup light, aside from the dark red lip she had on.
Elizabeth was a bit more casual with some ripped at the knee black jeans, a loose grey t-shirt, and a suede burgundy moto jacket. She had straightened her curls that night, but since the weather was getting warmer she put it up in a messy ponytail. Her makeup was a very bare minimum, just some mascara and a nudish pink lipstick that practically matched her lips. She didn't come tonight for a hookup, she just came to spend time with these new friends she made before she headed back home for the summer.
As soon as they walked into the crowded house, they immediately headed to the bar area to grab something to drink.
"Do you see Thor?" Wanda asked Elizabeth as they received their drinks from the bar tender, who Loki paid for the night a lot to overlook the underage drinking.
"No," Elizabeth said speaking a little louder because of the music, "If he were here, I'm sure we would spot him right away. Man is built like a god."
"Damn right he is," Wanda smirked taking a sip from her drink.
Elizabeth let out a laugh at her friend's comment, before going back to scanning the room.
"Let's go out back," she shouted, grabbing Wanda's hand.
They weaved through the loud crowded makeshift dance floor that was the living room.
Once outside they could hear the cheering sounds of a game of beer pong going on.
"Hey girls!" They turned their heads to find Loki walking up to them.
"Hey Loki, no Scott this weekend?" Elizabeth asked, noticing he was sans his boyfriend.
"No, he had to study for finals, he's coming up next week for Thor's graduation though," he says, hugging both girls.
"Speaking of which, where is that brother of your's?" Wanda tried to nonchalantly ask.
"I see you're wearing your lucky red dress," Loki remarks ignoring her question, he had a smirk on his face, knowing exactly what Wanda was up to.
"Oh, am I, I didn't even realize it," she played along, sending him a wink.
"He'll be he-" Loki was immediately cut off by a loud booming voice making it's way through the house and towards the back, "Mention and he shall appear."
The girls peered over their shoulder to see Thor walking in with a group of guys following him. Some of them Elizabeth recognized as his friends from Berkeley.
"Brother," Thor shouts, rushing his way towards Loki, throwing his arms around his younger brother in a bone crushing hug. You'd think they haven't seen each other in months, but they actually saw each other a couple a times a week for dinner.
Elizabeth found it cute the way they were really close. She never had any siblings, she always wanted some but her parents had only wanted one kid. She knew if she had a sibling she would want the same relationship Thor and Loki had.
"Ladies," Thor greets Wanda and Elizabeth, as he finally releases his brother.
"Hi," Elizabeth waved.
"Wanda, nice dress," Thor said throwing his arm over the small red head.
"Oh this old thing," she smiled, as he lead her towards the beer pong table.
"That damn dress," Loki laughed.
"It's lucky for a reason," Elizabeth laughed shaking her head.
"Elizabeth?" Elizabeth turned around thinking she heard her name called but she shrugged it off thinking it was just Wanda from up ahead.
"Elizabeth? Betty?" At the mention of her old nickname she froze, and instantly turned back around to come into eye contact with none other Steve Rogers.
"Steve!?" She exclaimed, completely taken back by seeing him here in the flesh.
He looked a bit different. He definitely had bulked up since the last time she saw him at their high school graduation.
"Oh my gosh, it is you," he shakes his head in disbelief before hugging her.
"Woah, you're huge," she remarked wrapping her hands around him.
"Berkley has a nice student gym," he remarks as they pull apart from each other, still taking each other in.
It felt like they were both looking at strangers. Yes, they still basically looked the same, but there was something different about both of them. Something more mature. Here are two young adults who had spent their childhood and teenage years together, looking at each other in complete amazement.
They hadn't spend much of senior year together. After giving Bucky his letter, Elizabeth had went over to Steve's to apologize in person. He welcomed her with open arms, but there was still something a bit off. What happened between their little group had changed them forever. Their friendship would never be the same again. And maybe that was for the better, Elizabeth had thought at the time.
Now as they stand in front of each other taking it all in, they hadn't realized how much they had missed each other. Missed home.
Loki clears his throat behind them, signaling he was still there.
"Oh, Loki," Elizabeth glanced behind, "this is Steve, we grew up together. Steve this is Loki."
"Hey," Steve reached his hand over for Loki to take, "Thor has told many stories about you."
"God, of course he has," Loki took his hand and rolled his eyes, "I'm sure they were all at my expense."
Elizabeth caught Loki subtly checking Steve out, causing a small blush to form on her cheeks. Guess she wasn't the only one taken by his new stature.
"They weren't all bad," Steve laughed.
"Yeah, I'm sure. I'll leave you two to catch up, I have a red dress to see in action," he says before walking away.
"Red dress?" Steve asked confused.
"It's nothing," she shook her head, realizing the amount of inside jokes she's made that no longer include him.
"So how have you been?" She asks him, as she leads him to a secluded part of the backyard where the music wasn't so loud.
"Good," he smiles one of his famous bright smiles, "Just been busy. You know freshman year not as easy as I had thought it would be."
"You're telling me," she laughs, "I'm glad I encountered Loki because he's been a massive help."
"Are you guys..." he starts to imply.
"Oh no," she quickly interrupts, "Let's just say Loki would be way more into you than me."
"Ah I get the picture," he lets out a loud laugh.
They didn't realize how much time had gone by, before Loki comes running up to them.
"IT WORKED!" He yelled, slightly slurring his words, "That damn red dress is fucking magic."
"Of course it is," Elizabeth smiled, watching Loki shake his head and make his way back to the party.
"What is this red dress?"
"My roommate Wanda, she has this red dress, and it's sorta became a lucky red dress throughout the year. It's magical," she says, but then something comes over herself, causing her to correct herself.
"It's nothing. It's just silliness. I'm sure it's not really magic," she shakes her head, and the idea of still believing in magic.
"Hey, don't do that," he places his hand softly on top of hers that was laid in between them on the bench they were sat at, "If you say it's magic, I believe it. There's nothing wrong with having a little magic in your life. Lord knows I believe, reason I won't use any other pencil when taking my final."
"Ahh Steve Rogers has a lucky pencil?" She playfully mocks.
"Steve Rogers has more than one lucky pencil," he laughs, "I have one for my written finals, and one I use for my drawings."
"Ah your drawings," she beamed, "They were always my favorite. I was so happy for you when I heard you decided to pursue something that allows you to still put your powers into use."
"My powers?" He asked, with a smile on his face.
"Yeah, your drawings were always so powerful," She beamed at him, "You knew how to bring whatever you were drawing to life. Your Brooklyn bridge drawing is still hands down one of my favorites."
"And between us," she lowers her voice, causing both of them to move their heads closer to each other, "It's my lucky totem."
"What? You still have it?" He quietly asked in disbelief.
The drawing was years old. He had drawn it one day during homeroom when they were 14, he didn't like how it came out but Elizabeth wouldn't let him toss it. She ended up taking it from him, to make sure he didn't throw it away. She had told him that one day he's going to want to look back on it and see how far he's come, even though she was positive he couldn't possibly get any better than he already was.
"I always keep it folded up in my pocket when I take a test," she confesses, "Have been since that day four years ago. It's my lucky drawing."
Steve stared at Elizabeth in awe. He didn't know what to say, he had just assumed she had lost it. But hearing that it was her lucky charm made his heartbeat quicken. For the first time in his life he wasn't seeing little innocent Betty, he was seeing Elizabeth. A beautiful, confident, mature young woman. She really blossomed here in college. He had never seen her so happy, so at peace. She was absolutely glowing.
He could feel his hands getting clammy, and his throat getting dry. He caught himself glance down at her lips and then back at her eyes. He tried to swallow the lump down his throat.
"Liz!" He heard someone yell in the background, causing both of them to snap out of their gaze.
They looked over to find Loki, once again. Slightly more drunk than last time.
"She's fucking my brother!" He exclaims in horror, "In my fucking room!"
Elizabeth laughs quietly and shakes her head.
"I better go make sure Loki doesn't drink himself from the horror of it all," she tells Steve, as they both get up.
"Wouldn't want that happening," he says, feeling his cheeks heat up.
"No, I'm going to need him next year," she smiles before walking away.
Elizabeth stopped and turned around, "Hey Steve, when are you flying back home?"
"Sunday morning at 8am, you?"
"Same. Where you flying from?"
"San Francisco International," he tells her.
"Well look at that, we're on the same flight home. Guess I'll see you Sunday morning," she smiled waving good bye.
"See you Sunday," he waved back, a big grin on his face.
After she was gone, Steve was left alone to his thoughts. His mind was racing with so many different thoughts. Was he really thinking about kissing Elizabeth? Bucky's Elizabeth. I mean she technically wasn't Bucky's Elizabeth anymore, but still as Bucky's best friend he shouldn't be having those thoughts of kissing his ex-girlfriend and first love. Hell Bucky was still in love with Elizabeth.
After Bucky had received that letter from Elizabeth, it kind of gave him hope for the future. He had told Steve that he wasn't going to give up on them getting back together. Steve was finding himself hoping that maybe Bucky had moved on from that idea. Maybe being at college has matured him the way it did for him and Elizabeth.
He glanced back at the house to catch Elizabeth pulling a shot away from a drunk Loki, as she tried to make sure he wouldn't cause any harm to himself.
Bucky was an idiot for screwing that up, he found himself thinking.
___________________
Elizabeth spent Saturday finishing up any last minute packing, before the movers arrived to pick up what was being shipped back. She also spent the afternoon hearing all about Wanda's wild night with Thor. Apparently Thor had such a great time he even invited her to his graduation, and she gladly accepted. Elizabeth smiled as her friend continued to talk about Thor, she noticed the way Wanda's eyes lit up. Her friend was falling in love and she didn't even notice.
She and Wanda had a final dinner that night. They had planned on meeting up later in the summer, to discuss apartment details, and see where each other grew up from.
Elizabeth was finding herself wishing for Sundays approach. Not because she was ready to go home, but she wanted to talk more with Steve. When Wanda asked what happened between them Saturday night, Elizabeth told her the truth. Nothing happened. It was simply just two old friends catching up. Wanda didn't believe her, but dropped the subject.
Steve really had grown up since last year. And not just his physical attributes. Elizabeth found herself loving hearing Steve talk all about what was going on with school. And especially when he talked about architecture. He even pointed out things that he would do to make Loki's house a lot nicer. She had never seen Steve so animated before. It really had her thinking if she even truly knew Steve.
They had spent most of their whole lives together, but when she thought back on it, it was never really just them two. It was always her, Bucky, and Steve. And when Bucky wasn't around it was in student council with other classmates around. She and Steve probably hadn't spent time together since they were children. Last night was the first time where they actually had a long conversation, with just them two. A real conversation about their dreams, and not the silly kind you have when you're seven, but the kind where you're actually making them come true.
It also had her thinking back to the moment when she revealed about keeping Steve's drawing of the Brooklyn bridge. It was such an intimate moment when she thinks back to it. While in the moment she was so drawn to him, like a magnet pulling them towards each other. Elizabeth would be lying if she said she didn't find Steve attractive, because anyone with eyes could see that. And she definitely would be lying if she said she hadn't wanted to kiss him.
Because Elizabeth Sanchez really wanted to kiss Steve Rogers last night.
What a mess that would've made. Kissing her ex-boyfriend's best friend. Her former best friend.
But then again, she and Bucky weren't together. They hadn't even talked since she left, and that conversation was a brief one. Bucky had stopped by to say bye and to let Elizabeth know he really appreciated the letter he sent her earlier in the year, and Elizabeth just explained she didn't want any negative feelings following her to college. She wished him well, and gave him a kiss on the cheek before she left.
Wanda walked into their room cutting Elizabeth's thoughts short.
"Ready?" Wanda asked, "Loki is waiting for us downstairs."
"Yup, let's go," Elizabeth said, she grabbed her carry on bag, one suitcase, while Wanda helped with the other one.
"Here we are," Loki says pulling in front of the drop off area at the airport.
"Thanks for the ride and everything this year," Elizabeth leaned over to give Loki a hug over the center console.
"Anytime kid, just make sure you come back to me," he winked, before getting out of the car to grab Elizabeth's bags from the trunk.
Elizabeth and Wanda hugged each other tightly once out of the car.
"It's not an official goodbye, we'll see each other sooner than we think," Elizabeth said into Wanda's hair.
"I know, I just got so used to having you around, what if I do something stupid?"
"I mean lets be real, you would do something stupid whether I'm there or not," she laughed.
"That's true," Wanda laughed along, pulling away from Elizabeth, "see you in a few weeks."
Elizabeth grabbed her things from Loki, and gave the group one final hug, "Love you guys," she said before walking away.
She turned around and gave them one final wave as they drove off.
Elizabeth checked in her bags and headed for her terminal.
Walking up to where her gate was she noticed a familiar blonde head waiting patiently.
"Hey stranger," she walked up to him.
"Hey," he smiled brightly, causing butterflies to flutter in Elizabeth's stomach.
She tried her hardest to ignore the feeling.
"I got you a coffee, it's still hot, I just got here not too long ago," Steve rambled, handing her a Starbucks cup.
"Ah you're a lifesaver, thank you," she smiled sitting down next to Steve, and taking a sip of her coffee.
Just how I like it, she thought.
"Ready to go back home?" He asked her.
"Yes, as much as I loved being here, I miss my bed," she laughed.
"Right," he agreed, "I can't wait to just crash for a few hours."
"I'm sure your mom is getting it all set up for you as we speak."
"Oh, yeah. She just texted me saying she's washing it as we speak," he laughed.
"How is your mom doing?"
"Good. She and dad actually just spent a month traveling around Europe," he tells her, "they finally had an 'empty nest' to do what they've always wanted to do."
"That sounds nice," Elizabeth smiles at the thought, "I hope to have that one day."
"Have you talked to Bucky lately?" Steve asked, taking not only Elizabeth by surprise but himself as well. He had no idea why he even asked that.
"Uh, no, not since I left last summer," she awkwardly said, scratching the back of her neck.
"Have you?" She asked.
Elizabeth didn't know why she asked Steve that question back. Part of her was curious, the other part was saving him from the embarrassment.
"Uh, yeah. Last night," he copied Elizabeth and rubbed the back of his head, "I was reminding him what time my plane landed. He's picking my up from the airport."
"He's been back home for a week now. Perks of going to school in New York."
"Yeah, I bet. No stress about if you're stuff will get lost on it's journey back," she joked, trying to break the awkward tension.
"So Thor told me he invited Wanda to his graduation," Steve changes the subject.
"Yeah! Her parents are flying in the next day, so she's probably going to go," she tell him, "How did you and Thor become friends?"
Elizabeth had been curious how that friendship started since Thor and Steve are not exactly on the same wavelength.
"Met him at the student gym," Steve laughs, "He saw me struggling and offered to help train me."
"As that's cute," she poked his bicep.
"Oh yeah, totally not embarrassing at all," he laughed along, "I was like a newborn deer learning how to walk."
"Well it paid off," she playfully nudged him, causing him to hide the blush forming on his cheeks.
Steve and Elizabeth continued to chat for the next hour, until it was time to board the plane. On the plane they wen their separate ways, they weren't so lucky to be seated close to one another.
Once they landed it was nearly five o'clock at night. They walked off the plane separately as well, once again like strangers.
Elizabeth would be lying if she said she wasn't rushing off in hopes of not running into Bucky. She knew she wouldn't be able to avoid him, she just dind't want to see him right here, right now.
She quickly made her way to baggage claim, where she was greeted by a familiar pair of eyes.
"Dad," she smiled throwing her arms around his neck.
"Elizabeth," he hugged his child tightly, "Welcome home sweetie,"
"Happy to be back," she smiled, pulling away. She caught his eye looking at something or someone behind her.
"Woah, is that Steve Rogers?" He asked.
She turned around to see Steve walking towards them, with is own carry on bags in hand.
"Steve," her father greeted him with his hand stood out.
"Mr. Sanchez, hi," Steve smiled shaking the older gentleman's hand.
"College treated you well," her father remarked.
"Dad," Elizabeth hissed, feeling her cheeks heat up at his comment.
"What? It's just an observation. I"m sure I'm not the only one who noticed," he gestured over to where two young girls are ogling Steve and giggling behind their hands.
"Thanks Mr. Sanchez," Steve blushed.
"Do you need a ride home?" Her dad offered.
"No, sir. Thank-you though," Steve politely declines, "Bucky is picking me up."
"Well don't be a stranger," her father waves goodbye as he heads to the conveyor belt to grab Elizabeth's bags.
"Bye," Elizabeth awkwardly waves.
"Wait," Steve stops her, "Maybe we can meet up some time this summer before we all head back to school."
"We as in you and me. Or as in you, me, and James?" She curiously asks.
"Of course, you, me and Bucky," he lies, "if that's alright with you. Not sure how things are still with you both."
"Things are you know, weird, but sure why not," she shrugged, "text me when and where."
They said their final goodbyes before parting ways.
Of course I meant with Bucky, right? He thought.
"Steven Grant Rogers?" He heard someone yell.
"Buck," he smiled, happy to see his best friend.
"Damn man, you got huge since I last saw you over the holidays," Bucky commented embracing Steve in a hug.
"It's not really much," he tried to brush it off.
"Dude you look like you ate the old you," he laughed.
"You just missed Liz," Steve said as he and Bucky walked to his car.
"Liz?" Bucky asked confused.
"Elizabeth. Sorry everyone calls her Liz at school," Steve says as he stops outside of Bucky's parked car.
"You guys hung out over there?" Bucky asks opening the trunk of his car.
"Just once," he says placing his suitcases in the trunk, "Remember that guy Thor I was telling you about?"
"Yeah, your personnel trainer," Bucky recalls walking over to the driver side, as Steve got in the passenger side.
Something in the passenger door pocket catches his eye.
"Well turns out Elizabeth is friends with his brother," Steve cautiously tells Bucky, "Ran into her at his party on Friday and we also were not he same flight back."
"Is she dating the guy?" Bucky begrudgingly asks, as he pulls away from he airport.
"Thor's brother? No," Steve says, unsure if he should even be telling Bucky about Elizabeth's new life, "I don't think she's dating anyone, she went to the party with her roommate."
"Cool," Bucky says pretending as if he isn't happy to hear that.
After a few moments of silence Steve decided to bring up what he saw, "So when did you start wearing red thongs?" He asked, gently pulling out the under by the tips of his fingers.
"Uh, you know college, all about experimenting," Bucky lied.
"Are you still planning on getting back with Elizabeth?" Steve ignored Bucky's answer.
"Steve, I don't need another lecture from you," Bucky rolled his eyes.
"I'm just asking, you're clearly not lonely."
"I'm single, so is Elizabeth," Bucky says, "If she were doing what I was it'd be perfectly fine."
"Buck, all I was doing was asking a question because if you are planning on getting back together with Elizabeth, you'll need to get rid of any incriminating evidence."
"Yes, okay. I plan on at least trying to see if Elizabeth would be willing to give it another try," he confesses.
"How is she?" Bucky asks.
"Happy," Steve answers truthfully, "I don't think I've ever seen her happier. College really did her well."
Bucky glanced over at Steve, noticing the way his best friend said the last part. He chose to ignore it.
The remainder of the car ride was spent on them catching up.

Elizabeth spent the first couple of days unpacking her things and getting back into the rhythm of being home. She had to admit to herself that she truly did miss being home, her parents were even more thrilled. An empty home was not something they liked. They were even talking about getting a pet.
As she was putting away her freshly washed clothes, her phone vibrated. She had assumed it was Wanda freaking out over what to wear to Thor's graduation tomorrow night. She was surprised to see Steve's name across her screen.
It was a text:
Hey, if you're not busy tonight my parents are having a small BBQ. It's a last minute thing, so if you're free you're more than welcome to join. It starts at 6 :) She took a second to think it through. She knew if she went, there was no doubt that Bucky would be there. She had managed not to run into him so far, but she knew it wouldn't last forever. They did still live across the street from each other. So she texted back:
Hey Steve. I'm totally free. I'll be there :D

Elizabeth took her time getting ready. As the time got closer, the more nervous she got.
Before she left she decided to call Wanda.
"I'm so nervous," she tells her friend.
"Take a shot," Wanda answered quickly.
"Dude, I"m home. My parents are definitely not going to let me 'take a shot'. Did you forget we are legally not supposed to," Elizabeth rolled her eyes looking around for her purse.
"Well are you wearing something hot, to show that idiot what he's missing."
"The last thing I want is to look 'hot'," Elizabeth stressed, "If anything I want to look as un hot as possible. I don't want him or anyone else here looking at me like that."
"Except for Steve," Wanda smirked over the phone.
"Yeah, except for Ste-" Elizabeth stopped, she was taken by surprise at what Wanda said and her own response, "No. Wait. What?"
"Oh come on Liz. I may have been slightly preoccupied by Thor that night, but Steve was definitely giving you the eyes," Wanda says, "And you were as well."
"The eyes?"
"Yeah, heart eyes," Wanda says as if it's the most obvious thing in the world, "The same way I look at Thor. Or the way Scott and Loki look at each other."
"Wanda, Steve and I weren't looking at each other with heart eyes," Elizabeth denied, "He's one of my longest, closest friends. Plus he's practically Bucky's brother."
"So you thought about it?" Wanda teased.
"I called you to ease my nerves, not make them worse," Elizabeth groaned.
"Sorry," Wanda sincerely apologized, realizing she was being no help to her best friend, "Liz, everything is going to be fine tonight. If anything, all you need to do is be polite to James. Hell, you don't even need to talk to him.
"He's going to want to talk."
"Then keep it cordial, platonic," Wanda reassured her, "You don't have to tell him anything you don't want to. Your life is yours. Not his."
"In the words of Cristina Yang, 'You're the sun. Not him,'" Wanda said quoting one of their favorite shows.
"I'm the sun," Elizabeth repeated, feeling the weight slipping of her shoulders, "Thanks, Wan. I'll call you afterwards."
"Unless you and Steve are getting it on, then you can call me tomorrow."
"Bye," Elizabeth hung up the phone.

Elizabeth decided to walk the three blocks to the Rogers' household. It was a nice night, and she missed being able to walk everywhere. Something she definitely took for granted once she moved to the west coast.
When she got in front to the Rogers' house, she took one final inhale and exhale, gripping the platter of brownies her mom made as a gift. She the proceeded to walk to the side door, leading to the backyard where everyone was.
She didn't know why she was feeling so nervous. The Rogers weren't strangers. She practically grew up in this house. She knew not just Steve's parents, but his whole family, and they knew her. This would be just like visiting her own family, yet it wasn't. She didn't even really talk to Steve for almost a year.
As soon as she entered the backyard, she couldn't help but feel slightly out of place. She thought she could quickly turn back, no one had even noticed her arrival.
"Oh my gosh," she heard a woman's voice from across the yard, "Is that Elizabeth Sanchez?"
Elizabeth looked over to see Steve's mom, Sarah, rushing over with open arms. She was always so motherly. Elizabeth, welcomed her hug, hugging her back with one hand while the other one still clutched the container of brownies.
"Look at you," Sarah Rogers exclaimed, pulling away but keeping a grasp on Elizabeth's arms, taking her in, "College made such a fine young lady out of you."
Elizabeth couldn't help but to blush, she didn't think she looked that much different. If anything she had gained a few more pounds, and her hair was a bit of a mess, due to the New York humidity.
"Joseph, it's Elizabeth," she called out to her husband who was at the grill with one of Steve's uncles.
"My oh my, well isn't it little Elizabeth Sanchez, all grown up," he proudly smiled, hugging her.
Steve's parents were always so kind to her, like her parents they only had one child. She got the feeling that they saw her as another child, seeing as they were constantly feeding her throughout her youth.
"Your parents didn't come with you?" Joseph asked.
"No, they couldn't make it. They were driving up north to pick up my Grandma. But my mom did send these as an apology," Elizabeth held out the brownies.
"The famous Sanchez brownies," Sarah grabs the container, "Come on in sweetie, make yourself at home."
"Steve, Elizabeth is here," his mother calls into the yard.
Elizabeth looks in the direction his mother yelled into, and spotted Steve, who had a big smile on his face. He wasn't alone, he was with a few people they had went to high school with, and of course in the group was Bucky.
Elizabeth made her way to them all.
"You made it," Steve's smile got bigger, as he went to hug her.
"I told you I would," she said into his shoulder.
"Yeah, well," he pointedly said.
Steve didn't think Elizabeth would really come. He figured since she knew Bucky would be there, she would decide last minute to not go. He was very happy that she decided to not let that stop her. He couldn't help but watch her and she went around the group greeting the familiar faces. Then he felt someone staring at him, and turned to see Bucky watching him watch her.
Steve felt embarrassed when he caught the eyes of Bucky's looking right at him. He quickly played it off.
"Say hi," Steve mouthed to him.
Bucky hesitated for a second glancing back between Steve and Elizabeth. He felt sick. He's been waiting for this moment for awhile, and now all he wanted to do was to run away.
She looked different, the same but different. Steve was right, she seemed genuinely happy. College had brought this new aura to her, she was glowing. Bucky instantly felt guilty for all the pain he's caused her.
He felt a soft nudge to his right side, Steve pointed his head towards the girl that was standing in front of him.
"Uh hi," Bucky nervously said.
"Hi Bucky," she politely smiled.
She called him Bucky. She hadn't called him that since before senior year happened. Steve had mentioned that she had only called him James. He immediately relaxed.
"How have you been?" Elizabeth asked him.
"Good, I've been good," he stumbled over his words, "Yourself?"
"I've been really good," she smiled. This wasn't as bad as Elizabeth thought it's old be.
Before Bucky could respond, they heard a scream. They both turned to see an older Rebecca Barnes running towards them.
Rebecca was now 15 years-old. She came along way from being Bucky's little sister. Elizabeth had always seen Rebecca as the little sister she always wanted. When she and Bucky were dating she would often include Rebecca on their outings. She never wanted Rebecca to feel left out simply because she was the youngest.
After she and Bucky broke up, Elizabeth stopped seeing Rebecca as well. It was just too hard for her. Plus, it took her months to forgive Bucky.
"Rebecca," she laughed, as the young girl threw her arms around the older one.
"You look so good," Rebecca said, pulling away with a giant smile on her face. She no longer had braces, Elizabeth noted.
"Aw thanks, I see those braces finally came off."
"Yeah, just two weeks ago," she smiled even brighter.
Bucky couldn't help but watch the two girls catch up with smiles on their faces.
After they had broken up senior year Rebecca kept asking Bucky went to school in Brooklyn, Rebecca went to a science based school in Queens. She never heard the rumors, but Rebecca was smart and intuitive. When Natasha started coming around more, she put two and two together. She never told Bucky she knew the truth, she figured he was trying to protect her.
"How's California?" Rebecca asked, causing Bucky to tune back into their conversation.
"Amazing," Elizabeth smiled, "Stanford is everything I thought it would be and more. The people there are great as well."
"Any lucky person?"
Leave it to Rebecca to be nosey, Bucky thought.
"Nah," Elizabeth shook her head, "School has been my top priority. Being a pre-law major is a lot of work."
Elizabeth and Rebecca spent some time catching up before Rebecca left to go meet up with some friends in Queens.
"Do you want a drink?" Bucky asks her, holding up an unopened can of soda.
"Thank-you," she grabbed it. She took a look around to see that their group had left and were now mingling with other guests.
It was just her and Bucky in the corner of the yard.
"So," he said shifting on his feet.
"So," she opened the can of soda, causing a loud carbonation sound breaking the awkward silence.
"This is awkward," he nervously laughed.
"Just a little," she agreed.
"Listen-"
"It's all water under the bridge Bucky," Elizabeth interrupted him, "We aren't those people anymore. We're adults now. In college. I meant it when I wrote you that I wanted to move on from all of that. No hard feelings. Think we can do that without mentioning the past?"
"Yeah, I think we're could," he smiled.
"Good," she smiled back, and this time it wasn't a forced one.
"You really do look good," he complimented her, carefully watching her reaction.
"Thank-you," she blushed, looking down at her feet, "So do you. I see you've been following Steve's footsteps about going to the gym."
"Yeah," he blushed, scratching the back of his neck, "It's nothing compared to Steve's. The punk looks like he ate the old Steve. That Thor guy must be one hell of a trainer."
"Oh Thor, he's practically built like a God," Elizabeth giggles, "If you think Steve is big, Thor is a fucking planet."
Bucky laughed along with her.
"So how's school going?" Elizabeth asked him.
"Good actually," Bucky smiled, "I'm going to be taking some summer courses to get a jump start for next year."
"Perks of being so close to campus," she smiled, "Did you have good roommate?"
"Yeah, his name is Sam, he's also in the same Music Technology program as me," Bucky explained, "He's going to be visiting during summer, so hopefully you get a chance to meet him."
Everything was going smoothly throughout the night. Elizabeth found herself having a really great time. She even started to find herself missing Bucky while catching up with him.
She shook off the feeling. It had to be a natural way to feel, she and Bucky had known each other their whole lives, and this was their first time actually talking in over a year.
When the party was starting to dwindle down, Elizabeth felt it was the right time to go home.
"I'm going to get going," she said to Steve, going to hug him goodbye.
"Thanks for coming," he smiled into the hug, "Did you drive here?"
"No, I walked," she informs him, "One thing about the west coast, most things aren't in walking distance."
"Right, I suggested walking somewhere once to my roommate, and he looked at me like I was crazy," Steve laughed.
"Will you be alright walking on your own?" He asked.
"I've done it many times before," she said.
"Hey man, I'm gonna take off," Bucky walks over interrupting their conversation.
"Perfect, Liz was just leaving as well, maybe you can give her a ride," Steve suggested.
"Oh, I actually walked here," Bucky tells him.
"Even better, so did she," Steve smiled proudly.
"You okay with that?" Bucky turns to Elizabeth. He wanted to make sure he wasn't overstepping any invisible boundaries.
"Yeah, I mean we both are heading to practically the same location," she shrugs her shoulders.
Both of them finished saying their goodbyes and began their walk back home. This was the first time they've been alone in way over a year. No party or people to come join in on the conversations. Just Elizabeth and Bucky.
Elizabeth glanced up at the sky, as they walked. Brooklyn was abnormally quiet that night. I was so peaceful, she couldn't help but take it all in.
"I've missed Brooklyn," she says just above a whisper as to not disturb the peacefulness of the night.
"It's missed you," Bucky confesses looking right at her.
Elizabeth was taken back by his response, she glanced to her left to see Bucky staring right at her. She stopped walking. She couldn't pinpoint what she was feeling in that moment.
Bucky panicked, "Sorry, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable," he apologized.
Elizabeth remained quiet. Trying to process it all. Whatever move she mad will have some sort of lasting affect on both of them.
"If you want to walk ahead I understand," he says, "I'll wait here for five minutes before I begin walking again."
Elizabeth stared into those sad blue eyes. The eyes that always found their way back to her. Maybe this time everything would be different, she thought.
"Elizabeth," Bucky quietly calls, carefully placing his hand on her's. She snapped out of her thoughts, and instantly laced her fingers through his.
"It's all good," she smiled giving his hand a reassuring squeeze, "Let's continue walking."
Bucky couldn't fight the smile growing on his face, as they continued to walk hand in hand.
Once they had reached Elizabeth's house, they stopped outside of the the gated yard.
"So," Bucky said as they stood outside the gate, still holding hands.
"So," Elizabeth smiled, subtly biting her lower lip, "Do you want to come inside for a bit? My parents won't be back until tomorrow morning."
Elizabeth had no idea what came over her to invite Bucky inside. She knew it wasn't a harmless invitation. They both knew what would happen once that front door closed.
"God, I'm going to regret this later," Bucky mumbled, causing Elizabeth to be confused.
"As much as I would love to go inside," he carefully began, "and trust me Elizabeth, there's nothing I would love more. I just have to say no."
"Oh," she said feeling utterly rejected. She wasn't expecting that response.
"Please don't take it as a rejection," he quickly said, grabbing her other hand, "I really want to give us another try. And in order for that to work, I think it's best if we don't rush into it. Because we both know once that door closes, taking our time will go right out the window. And I don't want to screw this up, again.
"I love you, Elizabeth. I never stopped. So please, please know I want to prove to you how much I love you by taking our time. Getting to re-know these new versions of ourselves."
Elizabeth was shocked. Not in a bad way. Bucky has really grown up this past year. Everything he was saying made sense. Yet she still couldn't help but feel sort of disappointed.
"Okay," she smiled, "You're right let's take this slow. Start fresh."
"Thank-you for understanding," he smiled, proud of himself for having some willpower, "Can I take you out tomorrow night?"
"Yes, I would like that."
"Does seven work for you?"
"Seven is good," she nodded her head.
"Perfect, I'll see you at seven," he kissed her cheek before dropping her hands and walking across the street to his own house.
Elizabeth went inside and headed to her own bedroom. She flopped down onto her bed, staring up at the ceiling. She pulled out red phone and immediately called Wanda, placing the phone on speaker and putting it next to her head on her pillow.
"You're not getting laid," Wanda greeted.
"Hey, I tried," Wanda defended.
"Wait, really?" Wanda sounded surprised, "You tried having sex with Steve?"
"Not with Steve," she hesitated for a second.
"Please don't tell me," Wanda groaned already knowing who she was talking about.
Elizabeth remained silent.
"Did you try to have sex with James?" Wanda asked needing verbal confirmation.
"Yes," Elizabeth admitted, "Everything went great at Steve's. Bucky and I spent most the night catching up and just talking. It made me realize how much I missed him. Also wan't bad that he somehow got better in the last year. We then walked home together, and when we got to my house, I invited him inside."
"Look at you taking initiative!" Wanda cheered.
"Yeah, well I didn't have the lucky red dress to take it all the way."
"What happened?"
"He turned me down," Elizabeth confessed.
"What?" Wanda yelled, "He turned you down!"
"He actually had a good reasoning for turning me down."
"Which was?"
"He wants to take this slow," Elizabeth tells her, "He said he wants us to get reacquainted with each other. Get to know who we are now, as oppose to who we were. He doesn't want to ruin it."
"I mean it does make sense."
"He also might've said he still loves me," Elizabeth quietly said the last part.
"He still loves you?" Wanda gasped.
"Yeah."
"How do you feel about that?" Wanda curiously asks.
"Honestly," Elizabeth pauses, trying to get her thoughts under control, "It made me happy to hear."
"Do you still love him?"
"Yes?" Elizabeth said unsure, "Based on the way I felt tonight? Yes I still do."
"Based on before tonight?" Elizabeth questioned.
"I always kept Bucky in the farthest corner of my mind. You know," she says, "He had hurt me so bad that after I forgives him, I just kind of wanted to move on from it all.
"I didn't want to take that kind of energy with me to Stanford. But once I was back, here in Brooklyn, all these feelings kept creeping back. And I don't know if it's cause I'm back home, and it's this familiar type of love. Bucky was always my comfort. He played such a big part of my life. The good, and the bad. How does one forget all that?"
"Is it a bad thing to say that I knew he'd come back to me?" Elizabeth expresses.
There was a pause on the other side of the phone.
"No," Wanda finally spoke, "What you two had isn't something that can be easily erased. But..."
"But?"
"I know you've said you've forgive him for cheating on you," Wanda says, "and I do believe that you have. But do yo think you can actually put that behind you once everything starts back up again. Will you be able to look at him as your partner and not second guess whatever he tells you.
"And I don't meat to be harsh here, but I also think it's important to be realistic about it all. Because when summer ends you'll be back here, at Stanford. While Bucky stays there."
Elizabeth takes a moment to think through everything Wanda has said. She knows what she's saying isn't without reasons. Elizabeth had told Wanda everything that had happened, so of course she was only looking out for Elizabeth.
But the Bucky Elizabeth saw tonight was definitely not the Bucky she had left last fall. And it might be naive of her to think, but she knew him. She knew he wasn't a bad person. Even good people make mistakes. She knew she should have to do this for herself, no matter how many people thought it was a bad idea.
"I don't want him to haunt all of my 'what ifs'," she spoke, "This is something that I have to give another shot. Even after everything he's put me through, I do still love him Wanda. I can't just give up this chance at love."
"Like I said before, this is your life," Wanda says, "You gotta do what's best for you and only you know what that is. And you know I will always be here for you. You're stuck with me for life."
Elizabeth had never felt more relieved, she knew she didn't need Wanda's blessing, but to have it was nice.

Over the next month, Elizabeth and Bucky had been on many dates. This whole getting to know each other again was going really well. They had also both agreed not to be exclusive. It didn't make sense to rush into putting a label on it.
After the first two weeks they both started to get busy. Bucky was taking three fast track classes during the summer, so he was busty during the week, going from school then back home.
Elizabeth had gotten a summer job at a dental office. She was hired to help with scheduling appointments, and filing paperwork. The job paid more than any usual summer job an almost 19 year-old with hardly no experience could get. She had previously tutored for the doctor who owned it kids. So when she heard Elizabeth was looking for a job, she offered it to her on the spot.
She couldn't complain, yes some days were longer than others, but the money was good and she had the weekends off, which now were the only times she and Bucky were able to see each other.
It was another long day of work, and Elizabeth had spent the day dealing with unruly patients. All she wanted to do was take a bath, have pizza, and crash. But she then remembered she and Bucky had a date planned for that evening. She glanced at the clock on the wall. He would be here in an hour.
As much as she wanted to go out, she really didn't have the energy to. Plush, she didn't really want to see anyone.
She pressed the call icon next to Bucky's name on her phone.
"Hey Liz," he greeted. Bucky and everyone else back home had gotten into the habit of calling her by her new 'grown-up' nickname.
"Please don't be upset," she says.
"Why? What's wrong?"
"Is it alright if we reschedule tonight's date," she says, "I just got home from work and I had a long day of dealing with rude people."
"Yeah of course," he tells her, he could hear just how exhausted she was, "Do you want me to bring over some food? We could could always have a night in."
"Thanks Buck, but I really just want to be along for the night," she tells him as she made her way into her room, "Is that okay?"
"Of course," he assured her, "I completely understand. I think Steve has the night off anyways, so think I'll head to his place for the night. Do you want to grab some lunch tomorrow during your lunch break?"
"That sounds perfect," she smiled, "Thanks again Buck."
"No worries. Have a good night."
"You too, tell Steve I said hi," she hung up the phone.
As she went to go put her bag down on her desk, her phone began to ring.
"Hey Wanda," she tiredly greeted her friend.
"Hey, everything okay?" Wanda asked, immediately sensing Elizabeth's mood.
"Just a long day, what's up?" She yawned.
"Just calling to ask you something."
"What's that?"
"You can say no first of all," Wanda clarified, "So I just got off of the phone with Thor and i was telling him about how I will be visiting you next week or the 4th of July, and well he kind of asked if he can come to New York as well."
"Oh," Elizabeth said, not expecting to hear that, "Are you asking for my permission, if your boyfriend can come?"
"Not my boyfriend, yet" Wanda sighs, "But yes. I guess he was also talking to Steve about visiting. He won't need to stay at your place either."
"Wanda, you don't have to ask me," Elizabeth assures her, "If Thor wants to come visit, he's more than welcomed to. I don't mind at all. Plus it'll be nice to see him."
"Oh, thank god," Wanda sighed in relief, "I just didn't want you to think that I don't want to spend time with you, because I do. I just don't want to be one of those girls that sneakily brings her boyfriend on a girl's trip. But don't worry, Thor is going to be doing his own thing with Steve. I am all your's for the weekend.
"Wanda it's okay. I know you aren't one of those girls. If you do become one of them, I'll make sure to save you."
"You're the best Liz," Wanda smiled, "Wait don't you have a date with Bucky tonight?"
"Not anymore, I cancelled," she says, "Too tired, Just want food and sleep."
"Ahh well, I'll let you go, enjoy your food and sleep, and I'll see you next week."
Elizabeth hung up the phone and decided to take advantage of the quiet house and take a bath before her parents got home from work.
As she entered her room, wearing a robe and her hair up in a towel, her phone began to ring.
"So much for a quiet time," she sighed, picking up the phone.
"Hey Steve what's up?"
"Sorry to bother you, I know you've had along day at work, but Bucky just bailed on me, something to do with Rebecca," he tells her, "And I'm outside of his house with a large pizza, and I don't want it to go to waste."
The other line went dead, Steve looked down at his phone to see that Elizabeth had hung up the phone. He hesitated for a second, thinking he should've just went home. As he was about to start his car up again, he heard his name being called. He looked across the street to find Elizabeth standing in her front door, in nothing but a robe.
"It better be a pepperoni pizza," she called out.
He laughed, and got out of his car with the large pizza in hand, "Only the best kind."
She moved out of the way to let him into the house, and lead him into the living room.
"Okay I'm going to head upstairs and put some clothes on," she says, "Make yourself at home, you know where everything is at."
"Sorry again about the drop in," Steve apologized once Elizabeth came back down with a fresh pair of clothes and hair brushed through.
"No worries, sorry Bucky bailed," she said sitting down next to Steve on the couch, "But his loss, is my pizza gain."
They spent the next hour devouring the pizza and watching a movie.
"So I hear Thor is visiting next week," she says, as she places her empty plate inside the empty pizza box, before making herself comfortable on the couch.
"Yeah, actually I wanted to talk to you about that," Steve says adjusting himself to face Elizabeth to his right, "Thor's parents have a house in the Hampton's, and they said we could use it for the 4th of July weekend. Not sure if you and Wanda already had plans, but you guys are more than welcome to join us."
"That sounds like a lot of fun. I'm sure Wanda wouldn't mind either," she smiled, "Plus I have never been to the Hamptons."
"Then it's settled, weekend at the Hamptons," Steve smiled, "I believe Loki and Scott will be joining us as well. Bucky is also inviting his roommate Sam, and I was planning on inviting some of the kids we went to school with."
"Sounds like a party."

Elizabeth and Wanda drove up to East Hampton together. The boys drove up the night before to get everything set up.
"So how are things between you and Bucky?" Wanda asked lowering down the volume.
"Things have been okay," Elizabeth sighed, as she kept her eyes ahead as she drove.
"Just okay?" Wanda asked, "A month ago you couldn't stop talking about him. What changed?"
"We haven't had much time together the last week or so," Elizabeth says, "and he's been cancelling a lot on me this past week."
"Did you say he was taking summer courses?"
"Yeah," Elizabeth nodded.
"Then he's probably just busy," Wanda reassures her, "Now, look at it this way. You'll have four days to catch up. Plus, you'll have the lucky red dress."
"We're taking it slow, remember?"
"It's been a month and a half. Have you guys even kissed?" Wanda playfully joked.
"He wants to take it slow," Elizabeth quietly repeated.
"Wait!" Wanda yelled startling Elizabeth.
"Geez Wan, I'm driving!"
"You guys haven't even kissed yet!"
"He wants to take it slow!" Elizabeth yelled back.
"There's slow and then there's being a fucking nun. Is he a nun?"
"I don't know what you want me to say. It's not for lack of trying," Elizabeth stressed, "I've tried. Believe me, I've tried."
Wanda remained quiet, causing Elizabeth to get an unsettling feeling in her stomach.
"Why are you so quiet? You're never this quiet. Ever."
"I'm just thinking," Wanda says.
"Well please do share your thoughts."
"You guys haven't even kissed, does that not worry you?"
"Yes," Elizabeth confessed, "Of course it does."
"Do you think," Wanda pauses, "Now don't freak out when I ask this because we don't want to die, and we also don't know what's going on. But do you think he's seeing someone else?"
"I haven't even thought of that," Elizabeth says.
Wanda glances over and notices the far off look in Elizabeth's eyes.
"You know what, that wasn't a logical explanation," Wanda says trying to bring back her spiraling friend, "I'm sure Bucky is just busy."
"Yeah," Elizabeth agreed, but not really believing any of it.

The girls arrived to the house an hour later, it was barely going to be noon. The rest of their car ride was no longer filled with talks of relationships, but just spent listening to music, and discussing plans for their new apartment. When they pulled up, they were in awe of the beautiful house. There was already two cars in the driveway, one belonging to Steve, and the other must've been Loki's rental. "How much money do those Odinsons have?" Wanda stated looking up at the house. The house was a white modern looking two-story farmhouse. The two car drive way, looked like a mini version of the house. It looked homey. "You're here!" They heard a booming voice yell, as they exited the car. They looked up to the front door to see Thor fast walking his way over to them. He quickly made his way to Wanda and took both girls by surprise by picking her up and kissing her. At least someone's getting kissed, Elizabeth thought smiling at how happy her best friend looked. "Hello to you too," Wanda smiled, once they pulled apart. "I've missed you," he grinned, placing her down gently, "Hi Elizabeth." "Hi Thor, nice to see you," she greeted him, as she opened the trunk of her car to get the bags out. "Here let me get those," he said, grabbing both suitcases from the trunk, "The boys are out back in the pool." Thor showed both girls to their room first before walking them out to the back to greet the rest of the boys. "Lizzy! Wanda!" Loki shouted, running over to both girls and throwing his arms around them both. "Finally some estrogen to balance out all of this testosterone," he whispered in their ears, causing both girls to giggle. Once they pulled apart they were greeted by Loki's boyfriend Scott Lang. "Hi Scott," both girls greeted, hugging him as well. Elizabeth looked past the patio area to the backyard, where the pool was placed in the middle of nothing but grass. A typical Hamptons backyard. She saw Steve, Bucky, and who she assumed to be Bucky's roommate Sam, emerging from the pool. "Hey, you guys made it," Steve smiled. "All in one piece." "Barely," Wanda whispered to Loki. "This is Wanda, my roommate from Stanford," she introduced, "Not sure if you met back then. Wanda this is Steve, and Bucky, and Sam, right?" "Correct," Sam answered extending his arm out to shake their hands, "Sam Wilson, the person who's had to put up with Bucky for almost a year." Elizabeth laughed, "So sorry you've had to deal with that." "Ha ha funny," Bucky rolled his eyes, shaking Wanda's hand. He looked over at Elizabeth about to go in for a hug, but stopping once he realized he was wet from the pool. He gave her a smile, and she returned it. "Oh, I forgot. Happy birthday Steve," Elizabeth announced, "I would hug you but your wet." "Thanks, Liz," he smiled. Elizabeth glanced over at Wanda who was raising her eyebrows teasingly. Elizabeth shook her head. "So what time is everyone arriving?" She asks. "We told everyone two," Loki said, "the catering staff should be hear soon. "Catering?" Wanda asked. "Our parents insisted, seeing as last time Thor tried to have a barbecue he almost burned down the house," Loki explains to them. "He's pretty and smart, he doesn't have to cook," Wanda defended him, "Also helps that he has a big di-" "Okay," Elizabeth clapped her hands interrupting Wanda from finishing that sentence, "We're going to go get ready." "We'll join you," Loki said, with Scott behind him following the girls upstairs to their shared room. "So that's Bucky?" Loki asked, throwing himself onto one of the beds while Scott closed the door behind them. "Yup." "He's hot," Scott stated. "Don't start fawning over him," Wanda raises her hand, "He hasn't even kissed her yet." "What?" Loki and Scott gasped. "Are you going to be telling everyone that?" Elizabeth asked, heading into the en-suite bathroom. "You brought the red dress right?" Scott asked Wanda, already knowing all about her lucky red dress. "Yes, nobody worry," Wanda says pulling out the red dress, "Our dear sweet Lizzy will be getting at least some action tonight. Even if it's the bare minimum."
__________________________
The party was going great, everyone had invited a mixture of friends. Some were from Elizabeth's high school, some of them had grown up with Thor and Loki. It was a good mix of people. And everyone was having a great time.
In the car ride Elizabeth had been nervous after her conversation with Wanda about Bucky, but all those worries went away once she had made her way back down after getting ready.
Bucky hadn't left her side, since then, and he was being more openly affectionate than before. There was still no kiss, but Elizabeth didn't have a doubt in her mind the night wouldn't be ending without one, maybe even a little more.
Thank you lucky red dress.
It was around eight pm when Thor suggested they start doing the fireworks, everyone in the neighborhood had started to as well. So everyone made their way into the front yard, some in chairs, some on the grass, and some just standing around.
Elizabeth was sitting on the lawn, looking up at the lit up sky. She looked to her right to see Steve admiring all the colors, she softly smiled at him and the way he looked so content and happy.
She looked to her left to find the spot Bucky was just at a minute ago empty. She took a quick look around and couldn't see him, she shrugged it off just assuming he was somewhere nearby or in the house. She knew he had difficulties with large crowds and sometimes he just needed to step away.
After twenty minutes, Bucky still wasn't back.
"Hey Steve, I'll be back, I'm going to go check on Bucky," she tells him before heading back into the house.
The house was quiet, since everyone was outside watching the fireworks. She checked the back and all of downstairs but couldn't find Bucky, even the catering crew were outside watching the fireworks.
Elizabeth headed upstairs, thinking Bucky probably went to find peace in his room. Bucky and Sam were sharing a room for the weekend, it was the first one to the right once you reached the top of the stairs.
As soon as Elizabeth reached the final step, the bedroom door opened up. She smiled thinking Bucky was going to walk out, but the smile dropped when she was greeted by not Bucky but Natasha Romanoff walking out.
Natasha hadn't noticed Elizabeth yet, she was smiling at the person walking out right behind her.
Bucky had a huge grin on his face, his hair was a mess and so was Natasha's. His smiled instantly dropped and his eyes widen once he noticed Elizabeth frozen at the top of the stairs.
So much for a lucky dress...

for the tag game I'm gonna ask the first 5 questions! teehee
Okie, dokie!  Lab write-up is done, now I’m free to answer!  (and if my muse wakes up, might get some more of those waiting prompts written this evening, too)
Fanfiction writer asks
1. From one to five stars, how would you rate your writing? (No downplaying yourself!) Can I say four?  Is four acceptable?  You’re never gonna catch me calling it brilliant, but I’m pretty proud of my standard nowadays.  My old stuff makes me cringe when I read it, but my current stuff I think I do a reasonable job with.
2. Why do you write fanfiction? Because it’s fun, and because I can!  I’ve spent my entire life daydreaming stories, most of them using existing characters from other media because something about them resonated with me, and when I discovered I could write them down and share them...  Well, that just made it even better!
3. What do you think makes your writing stand out from other works? I feel like my style has reached a point where it’s pretty unique.  I’m not sure what about it, exactly, but I read my stuff and I read other people’s stuff and I just notice little things about how I phrase things (and the grammar laws I throw out the window when they don’t give me the effect I want - especially when it comes to sentence structure) that I don’t really see other people do?  I can’t put my finger on it exactly, but I think there’s something different about how I write.
4. Are there any writers that inspire you? Fairly sure I’ve answered this in a previous round of these questions... the answer is yes and no, I think.  No, because my inspiration doesn’t come from people it comes from random questions, random things.  I’ll read another fic and go ‘huh, that was cool but what if’, or someone will say something completely unrelated and my brain goes plot idea!
Yes, because the story of how JRR Tolkien wrote LotR fascinates me and let’s be honest, I would love to write something as impactful as LotR.
5. What’s the fic you’re most proud of? Oh boy.  I have pride in a lot of them for various reasons (and yes, technically I’m proud of most of them because I wrote that but I mean beyond the ‘proud creator’ pride).  I’m gonna go with the first fic that came into my head, though, and that’s Tales From The Heart.
For those of you who don’t know Tales (which is probably actually a lot of my followers because I know most of you follow me for TAG fic at this point), at its heart, it’s a series of short chapters/oneshots that I wrapped together in one fic so I didn’t drive people mad posting loads of short oneshots in the archive (which is one of my personal pet peeves as a reader).  It wasn’t supposed to be long, just a few short ideas I had that didn’t count as full stories in their own right for me to shove together.
Right now, it’s over 250k words and 248 chapters long.  There’s more to archive, I just haven’t got around to it yet.  There are three other fics in the AO3 ‘series’ and a fourth in the works.
It looks at one well-developed character and his so undeveloped they barely have names and faces let alone personalities or backstories crew, and it ran with them.  Quite frankly, at this point Penguin and Shachi might as well be my own OCs I’ve poured so much time and love into developing them as main characters in it.  They have a detailed backstory (which is the fourth fic I’m writing), they have personalities, developed fighting abilities.  Hell, I even made Shachi technically legally blind just because whenever we see him he’s always wearing shades, so I made that a Thing rather than just a fashion statement (I admit he also has a fantasy workaround for it so it might not be a proper ‘blind character’ in terms of realistic writing but it does fit within the canon universe).
(we have since got more ‘canon’ backstory and personality for them so Tales is technically AU now, but eh, whatever.  I wrote mine first)
I’m proud of a lot of my fics, but I think I’m most proud of Tales because of where it went and what it did.  Where it’s still going, and what it’s still doing, because updates might have stalled but they’ve not stopped!

Get to be mine: 4, 8, 9, 12
4. What’s your favorite line of dialogue?
I’ll pick a Ch 2 goodie:
“So, then what are our other rules for touching?”
His eyes travel down her frame, what’s visible behind the counter at least. “Like if I can touch your—“
“No!” Beth says, exasperated.
Quickly, he backs off, playing faux-chivalrous, “Oh, so you just mean holding hands and whatnot?”
“Yeah.”
Rio’s eyebrows scrunch together and he slowly shakes his head at her in disbelief.
Beth’s voice comes out embarrassingly small. “You don’t want to hold hands?”
“Yeah, you can hold my hand.” He says it like the most obvious thing in the world. Beth flings her gaze out into the storeroom, willing for some supernatural force to spirit her away.
“Okay.”
“O-kay.”
They’re back to awkwardly nodding in silence. She looks back at him. At this point, eye contact is still really too much for Beth to handle, but she refuses to look away again.
“You can also touch my--“ Her eyes dart down to her hips. “You know. If you insist.”
Rio’s back to biting his lip. The expression on his face is amused? Pained? Beth can’t quite say.
“‘Kay. You can grab my ass, too.” Beth squawks. “Y’know, so it’s fair.”
She eyes him reproachfully. “Fine. I will.”
Look y’all, I know what show I’m watching!!!  But, can they please have a normal-person conversation about boundaries oh my god. Not that the above is a normal-person conversation. My larger scale point is that this lack of boundary articulation really came to bite Beth in the ass in Chapter 4.
8. Did any real people or events inspire any part of it?
My OC Marjorie is absolutely based off of someone I’ve met in real life who went to law school, hated being an atty and then became a pretty successful romance novelist. IRL Marjorie is in fact the coolest human.
The grief subplot in the story is also inspired by losing my grandmother last year. It was an expected loss — one my mom and I had anticipated for years — but of course, despite bracing for it, her death was still somehow sudden and her passing really reconfigured the dynamics our family. I wanted to write about exploring the way relationships shift after a family member dies, the way that this part of life is really normal, but also really sucks, and how complicated it is for individual family members to process grief differently.
Lol, GTBM isn’t that deep or anything, but it is fun to play around in that space for the scenes the OCs are “on screen”. It was really born out of… how do I not make this boring for myself to write? And I hope it’s interesting for people to read!
9. Were there any alternate versions of this fic?
The idea was always that Beth was going to get her hands on a printing press and there would be fake dating.
My first idea was that Beth would buy the press from a community printing press going out of business and the fic would explore the repercussions of lost community space, Detroit as a location was going to be more of a presence, and Beth navigating to be a responsible business owner while also doing her shady dance with Rio. In that version, Rio was going to be playing up his art heaux-vibe to scoop the press (and he was going to win the bid). It was also going to explore the history of community presses as feminist, queer and POC spaces and ~intersectionality. But navigating that and the crime plot was Too Much.
I like what I went with — its themes feel more closely aligned with the show.
I also wrote this excerpt below as the first thing for the fic. I ended up retooling some of it for the first kiss that actually appears in GTBM.
She turns what she knows what Annie calls her Bambi eyes at him, can’t help but beseech him. She pulls herself flush to his chest and gingerly threads her hand at nape of his neck - like before.
She can’t read the emotion on his face. His whole body is tense.
Beth dully notes that this might be what finally gets him to shoot her.
She follows her fingers as they trace his cheek bone, his jaw, the cleft at his chin, and then his lips, playing her bit. A few inches from his mouth, her gaze darts back up to him and she murmurs. “I’m sorry.”
Like most of their interactions these days, she can’t tell if he’s pissed, bored, or… or if he wants it.
It makes her pause.
“May I?” Anyone else in the room would think it was a whispered nothing. She’s violated so many of his boundaries and the thought of how much he might not want this makes her feel sick.
She wants to save their lives. She wants to keep them safe. She wants them to win. She wants them to be a team.
He eyes her steadily. “Go for it.”
Well. Fuck it.
She brings her lips to his.
She had only ever kissed him that one afternoon. She had tried to quash the feelings of that day down deep inside her. But, sometimes she would find herself in the middle of a thought and there would be an echo of his lips against hers, a hand tugging at her hips, another gripping at her ass, the firm heat of him pressing against.
On days when she was alone, her husband at work, left unsatisfied, she touched herself thinking about what it would be like to kiss Rio again. She had imagined something furious, angry, biting, nothing quite so soft.
12: What do you like least about this fic?
I’m getting in my head about making sure that it’s “good”.
I’m writing GTBM to:
1. Become a better writer.
2. To get the experience of taking a daydream and fleshing it out into an absurd, lovely fanfic novel.
3. To have fun while hanging out in my house during the pandemic.
4. To keep myself busy and my partner company as she slogs through 70+ hour workweeks.
However, because I am spending so much time with this story, I am also putting a lot of pressure on myself to create some sort of idealized, “perfect” fic. I want people to like it. I want it to be 100% clever. But, this is the first time I’m tried long format and engaged with writing a meatier plot, multiple arcs, and utilizing a cast of characters — it’s not going to be perfect but it’s still a worthwhile endeavor.
But I spend a lot of time thinking: Is this good enough? The question is healthy to a certain degree — editing is a necessary skill. But, I have a hard time remembering it’s not going to be perfect and it doesn’t need to be perfect.
