Hello!

Sorry to bother you, but you seem to be one of the more informed Bleach fans.

So the thing is, since Bleach started airing its new anime, my Twitter feed has over-filled with it (apparently liking any manga/anime equals liking Bleach...) and the waves of IH fans, who seem to enjoy it exclusively through bashing IR. I know my first mistake is having Twitter, but the author of the absolutely fantastic manga I'm into is posting extra material there, so I'm ready to bear the consequences XD

Tbh, I've never finished reading Bleach. I think I made it to Fullbringer arc, but at that point, I've finally realized that I can just stop reading something that doesn't bring me enjoyment and for a while at that.

I did ship IR back then (for obvious reasons), but I have long since moved past Bleach to better pastures, though I still love the aesthetic. (And Rukia, I probably would've finished Bleach if it was at least 30% more Rukia, no Ichigo necessary XD)

But recently, I've encountered the post that discussed how Kubo himself didn't like the old anime. I remember fandom drama being large enough that it affected him, though I know no specifics as I've always inhabited the peripheral areas of the fandom.

So my question is, is there like a big meta post, following the evolution of Kubo's relationship with his work or just some large meta posts analyzing the events of those times? I definitely don't want to dive deep back into the fandom, but I've always enjoyed reading those large meta analyses.

Again, only if that won't be too bothersome for you, you just have a lot of interesting posts yourself, so I thought you may know something like this or point me in the right direction.

Hi! To be honest, I kind of feel like a dinosaur in the fandom now... I've started reading it as a kid and joined the fandom when I was in middle school and now I'm in college with a part job but to sum it up, I've seen most of the drama of the fandom back then.

The thing is that the dudebros on Twitter who act like they know everything about B/each and what was going on in the fandom back then fail to realize the fandom was made of an overwhelming majority of IR shippers (and for good reasons) or just neutrals (who didn't really ship anything in particular) but understood IR's appeal.

But lmao, not the dudebros and these stans making up things to feed their own lies AGAIN when no, K/ubo didn’t have issues with the old anime, it was rather the “fan” who asked the question who was bitter about it from the way they asked their question. He supervied it and he even gave positive feedback, including this tweet about ep.342 (which features filler stuff made by the studio) where he said the episode was really pretty (he had also reacted to IR trending worldwide on Twitter back then while the anime episode aired).

K/ubo also said he was very involved in the anime in an interview in 2006, including the filler arcs for example with the character designs of the zanpakutos later on in the anime etc.

K/ubo also did say concerning that the H/ellverse and D/iamond D/ust R/ebellion movies aren’t canon (which makes sense, especially for H/ellverse after that recent Hell oneshot) but rather parallels to the canon story while Fade To Black IS canon (and the movie was promoted as “a movie you should go watch with your S/O" lol) so it tells you how invested he was in the old animated series. There is a whole thread on Twitter showing you K/ubo appreciated the anime, musical and live action adaptations and how IR were portrayed there if you want to check it.

Also, the “omg IR shippers are bullies and bad people!!!!” narrative which includes these accusations about IR shippers making K/ubo run off Twitter is FALSE (it happened 6-7 years ago), he deleted his account because a p*rnstar was impersonating as him there. SJ and him took legal action and that led to him deleting his account (he made a new account a while after), so it was not due to IR shippers and fandom drama as those people claim.

Apart from that, the manga’s cancellation official announcement from SJ was sudden which explains how rushed the ending was (well, at least the part where it doesn’t answer to many questions aka if U/rahara, G/rimmjow, N/el, Y/oruichi, I/sshin, R/yuuken were alive and some of the plot holes) but the fact it was that bad was K/ubo being petty and doing that out of spite because SJ cancelled the manga. I don’t know if you can say it’s a meta about his “relationship with his work” exactly but rather how his writing went downhill because he lost the plot of his own story: you can read this pretty interesting post (this blog has pretty interesting B/each analysis posts, including this one about the ending itself). B/each’s sales started to dip at one point but it got really bad at L/ost A/gent arc and and it got worse and worse after that because he spent way too long on unimportant plots and fights (the way we all way too many chapters with that fight of his favorite character against a giant hand...) while dropping important subplots/character arcs that had pontential such as K/arin becoming a s/hinigami (which was heavily hinted in the L/ost A/gent arc and which probably explains the fillers focused on her and H/itsugaya) or R/angiku having a piece of the S/OUL K/ING in her soul before A/izen stole it from her. He also got physically sick and tired of writing this story but SJ had initially given him enough time to end the story and what did he do? Waste time until SJ had had enough and made the cancellation announcement. You have a summary of that whole mess in this post.

The post-ending claims (from K/ubo himself and from those stans) about K/ubo planning the manga’s ending since the start (chapter 1) are also false.

K/ubo is great at characters design btw (though he had the same face syndrom at one point in TYBW when drawing his characters... especially when he was drawing T/oshiro in his bankai form) but as for the storytelling, he was only good if you stop at SS, after that... Well, we know how it went. It doesn't mean we didn't get good things from the following after that tho, it just means that things gradually started to go wrong until it became too much.

A/N: Happy New Year! This the first chapter in a new series I'm starting! I'm not sure how long it's gonna be yet, but I know it's gonna be longer than Broken. These series is about an alternate universe where the reader exists and lives through the events that happen in the MCU. A lot of the details will be changed to insert the reader, a lot of the lines said by other characters will be changed to be the reader's and I've also made up a lot of things and scenes and added them, trying my best not to change the official timeline and the main events. “You heard the boss, newbie, text Romanoff and tell her to pick up Rogers.” Rumlow taps his knuckles twice on the table for emphasis before getting up and exiting the conference room.

You make sure he doesn't miss the way you roll your eyes at the now old nickname before writing ‘New mission, need you at the jet in one hour. Asshole wants you to pick up the old man in spandex’ on your phone and sending the message to Natasha, then you get up and make your way out of the room.

“Armory.” you say as you enter the elevator. 

“Confirmed.” the elevator voice says as the doors start closing. 

You suit up for the mission just assigned by Pierce and go to the jet to start doing the checkups you know the rest of the idiots on the STRIKE team won’t even think about doing. 

After making sure everything’s ready and in order, you can do nothing more than wait for everybody else.

Natasha and Steve get there exactly an hour after your text. 

“Right on time.” you point out.

“It wasn’t a coincidence, YLN.” Natasha smirks, making you laugh.

“Cap.” you greet him with a smile that he returns. “Y/N.”

The rest of the team meets you a few minutes after. “Ready for take off.” Rumlow says to the pilot and the jet takes off.

Once you get close to the target Rumlow starts briefing Steve and Nat. “The target is a mobile satellite launch platform: The Lemurian Star. They were sending up their last payload when pirates took them, 93 minutes ago.”

“Any demands?” Steve asks.

“A billion and a half.” Rumlow answers.

“Why so steep?” Steve questions frowning.

“Because it’s Shield’s.” you answer promptly, ignoring the scowl on Rumlow’s face that disappears almost immediately.

“So it’s not off-course,” Steve says, understanding flashing in his eyes as he glares at Natasha “it’s trespassing.”

“I’m sure they have a good reason.” Natasha offers.

“You know, I’m getting a little tired of being Fury’s janitor.”-Steve seems really annoyed now.

“Relax, it’s not that complicated.” Natasha simply says.

“How many pirates?” Steve’s attention is back on the screen.

“Twenty-five, top mercs, led by this guy. Georges Batroc.” Rumlow pulls up the photo of Batroc on the monitor and looks at you expectantly, making you roll your eyes.

Of course you’re the only one who actually looked through the files.

“Ex-DGSE, Action Division. He’s at the top of Interpol's Red Notice. Before the French demobilized him, he had thirty-six kill missions. The guy’s got a rep for maximum casualties.” you fill everybody in, although it was obvious most of the guys aren't listening. At least the Captain is.

“Hostages?” Steve questions you, but Rumlow cuts in.

“Mostly techs. One officer, Jasper Sitwell.” he shows his picture. You’ve seen Sitwell around headquarters, he seems pretty close with the STRIKE team. Not that you hang out much with them outside of mission, or at all for that matter. “They’re in the gallery.”

“What’s Sitwell doing on a launch ship?” Steve asks more to himself, and he has a point. “Alright, I’m gonna sweep the deck and find Batroc. Nat and Y/N, you’ll kill the engines and wait for instructions. Rumlow, you sweep aft, find the hostages, get them to the life-pots, get ‘em out. Let’s move.”

Yep, he’s definitely in Captain mode.

“Ay ay, Captain.” you salute with a smirk that mirrors Natasha’s while Steve gives you a fake annoyed look.

“STRIKE, you heard the Cap. Gear up.” Rumlow says but you’ve already started getting ready and stopped listening to him.

“Secure channel seven.” Steve says into his wrist communicator.

“Seven secure.” Natasha replies. “Did you do anything fun Saturday night?”

“Well, all the guys from my barbershop quartet are dead, so… No, not really.” Steve answers, making both you and Natasha laugh while the pilot lets you know that the drop zone is coming up.

“You know, if you ask Kristen out, from Statistics, she’d probably say yes.” you point out, exchanging a knowing glance with Natasha.

“That’s why I don’t ask.” he fires back

“Too shy or too scared?” Natasha pushes.

“Too busy!” He yells over the wind as the door opens and then he jumps. 

You and Natasha both roll your eyes and look at each other smiling, not needing to talk to understand the other.

You barely register Rumlow and Rollins commenting on Steve jumping without a parachute before grabbing one for yourself and jumping alongside Nat.

You and Natasha have known each other for a while now, all the way back since she was first brought in by Clint.

You trained with both of them, went on countless missions together (yes, including Budapest) and you would’ve been right by their side in New York if you hadn't been on an important undercover mission and had strict orders directly from Fury not to blow your cover.

After that you got assigned to the STRIKE team by Alexander Pierce, though you still have no idea why. But orders are orders so you’ve been working with the idiots ever since.

But you and Natasha are thankfully still pretty close and your down time is spent mostly with her, sometimes also visiting Clint and his family at his farm.

 Nat’s still annoyed at Clint about naming his only daughter after you, middle name but still, and not her. But to be fair, you have known Clint longer, a fact that always amuses both you and Clint to bring up.

You’ve just landed when you hear Rumlow saying “you seemed pretty helpless without me” to Steve.

“What about the nurse who lives across the hall from you?” Natasha says.

“Yeah, she seems nice.” you add.

“Secure the engines, then find me a date.” Steve says in his captain voice.

“We’re multitasking.” Nat tells him before turning to you. “you take port, I’ll take starboard and we’ll meet at the rendezvous point”

“Copy.” you say and make your way to the engine room on the right side of the ship. You start taking down guys and can hear Rumlow saying they’re ready in position.

Just as you finish with the last guy you hear Steve calling your name. “What’s your status?”

“Port engine room secure.” you answer.

“Good, make your way to help Rumlow with the hostages.”

“Roger that.” you can almost hear him groan in annoyance as you smile while following his orders.

“Natasha, what’s your status?” you can hear her grunt while she fights through the comms. “Status, Natasha?” 

“Hang on!” She says as she keeps fighting. “Starboard engine room secure.”

You hear Steve countdown from three and then the team moving in on the targets, you get to the rendezvous point just in time to see Rumlow rounding the corner with the hostages on his tail.

“Hostages en route to extradition.” he says in his comms as you look around for Natasha.

“Romanoff missed the rendezvous point, Cap. Hostiles are still in play.” you let Steve know while helping take care of the hostages.

“Natasha, Batroc’s on the move. Circle back to Y/N and protect the hostages.” he receives no answer and at this point you get a little worried. “Natasha!”

You want to go looking for her but you know better than to leave your post, and you’re also very aware that Natasha can take care of herself. 

So you keep protecting the hostages while listening intently to the comms where you can hear Steve fight, then you hear a voice you assume it’s Batroc’s talking French and are even more surprised to hear Steve answer back in French. Impressive.

You can hear him fighting again and then you finally hear Natasha’s voice but don’t pay too much attention to the conversation, bringing your entire focus on the hostages now that you know she’s okay. 

You’re helping people into the life-pods when you hear an explosion go off somewhere on the boat. You don’t even realize you’re holding your breath until you hear Natasha’s voice again and let it go, feeling even more relieved after hearing Steve too.

The ride back is very uncomfortable as you help Natasha with the minor injuries from the explosion, Steve refusing help and insisting that he’s fine, and in the mood he’s in you’re certainly not about to argue. 

As soon as the jet lands he stomps away angrily and you share a concerned look with Natasha, worried about what he’s gonna do next. 

You help Nat to the medbay and leave her there when she assures you she’s okay and to not make a fuss over her.

So you make your way to the usual conference room for debriefing but when you get there Rumlow very smugly assures you that you’re not needed at this meeting. 

You’re used to being left out of meetings with the STRIKE team and Pierce by now, since you’ve been forced to join you’ve been left out of more meetings that you’ve attended, but it still bothers you sometimes.

Still, at least you don’t have to spend too much time with those neanderthals. Not your circus, not your monkeys.

So you just make your way to the Armory to put away your gear and then the locker room to change and go home for what you think is gonna be the rest of the day.

A few hours later you find yourself in the hospital where the STRIKE team has been called in the middle of the night because, guess what? Someone tried to kill Director Fury. Or, as it turns out, succeeded. 

You’re behind Steve, Natasha and Hill alongside Rumlow and Sitwell, watching Fury flatlining and the doctors calling it.

You want to go with Nat to see Fury, be there for her knowing she cared about him as much as you do, but obviously Rumlow has to be a dick and order you to stay put. And, whether you like it or not, he’s your boss.

He rudely interrupts Nat and Steve’s conversation telling him they need him back at headquarters and you can already tell something’s suddenly off.

As much as Rumlow can be an asshole, he’s never been openly rude towards Steve.

You can hear Sitwell in your earpiece telling the team to bring Rogers in for questioning as he and Rumlow get closer.

“STRIKE, move it out.” he orders but you don't start moving until Steve’s by your side, giving him what you hope is a reassuring smile. 

When you get to the Triskelion Steve is taken to Pierce’s office and you get ordered to go to Forensics and check into the evidence found on the roof, then go to Operations Control and wait for there for further instructions, so you do. 

When you get to the control room you see Sitwell concentrated on a particular screen so you get close trying not to get noticed and see Steve fighting STRIKE and SHIELD agents in the elevator. 

You barely have time to understand what’s happening before he’s throwing himself off the elevator and lands on his shield near the entrance of the building. Thankfully Sitwell’s “Are you kidding me?” covered your quiet “holy shit.”

You’re in the room when Sitwell gives the orders to track down Rogers to all the Agents and when he’s done, you discreetly follow him and the rest of the STRIKE team out the room.

For a bunch of guys who work for a top secret organization they sure suck at knowing when they’re being followed. 

No one talks until they get to a deserted corridor. “Pierce is going to kill us. Rogers has the flash drive and can use it to find Zola. You fucked up big time letting him go.” Sitwell sounds pissed.

“Take it easy, four eyes.” Rumlow sounds just as angry “You’re not the one that got punched by a supersoldier.”

They keep talking about the flash drive and Steve and Pierce and Zola. That name sounds familiar but you can’t remember for the life of you where you heard it from.

Then it hits you.

Zola was a former Hydra scientist from World War II, turned ally when the war ended. Thank god the Howling Commandos were hot so you actually paid attention during that particular history class. 

You're about to turn away so you won’t risk getting caught eavesdropping when you hear your name being mentioned.

“Someone should keep an eye on her.” Sitwell says, making you worried of becoming the next Shield target, but Rumlow proceeds to ease your worries.

“That’s a waste of manpower. The whole reason she’s even on our team was so we could keep a closer eye on Rogers, but she just spends all her time with Romanoff.” 

So that’s why Pierce assigned you to the STRIKE team.

Yeah, you’re closer to Steve than most people but it’s not like you’re best friends, you sometimes hang out outside of work but most of your interactions are mission related.

You decide you've heard enough to kind of put together what’s going on, but there’s not much you can do to help Steve yet, not knowing where he is. So you stick to following the STRIKE team, praying that your absence in the control room goes unnoticed. 

STRIKE gets a hit on Steve’s location and you follow them in your car to a mall but think better than to follow them in, waiting patiently outside. 

After a few minutes you see Steve and Natasha in their not so well thought out undercover outfits and, once again, the Captain surprises you by hot-wiring a car. 

You follow them, more discreetly this time, knowing Natasha and Steve would be better at realizing they’re being followed. 

You get to an old army camp in Wheaton, New Jersey and are about to follow them in and make yourself known to them, but before you can get out of your car you hear the plan the STRIKE team has through your comms.

The idiots never even thought about using a different channel. Of course Rumlow would underestimate you this much. 

So you decide to drive deeper into the trees surrounding the camp to make sure you’re not visible and wait, knowing Steve and Natasha will need a fast getaway. 

You can do nothing more than watch as a missile hits the bunker and the helicopters start coming. You want to go and help them, make sure they're okay, but you will yourself to stay put and not give away your position. 

When you can faintly see Steve’s figure, almost running with what looks like Nat in his arms, you finally turn the car on and drive coming to a stop right in front of him and startling him to a stop on his tracks.

“Get in.” you urge him, and he seems wary of you, rightly so. “Come on, Cap, they can’t know I’m here!”

He seems to decide to risk trusting you and delicately sets an unconscious Nat down in the back seat before getting in the passenger’s seat.

As soon as his door is closed you drive away as fast as you can, heading back to Washington and you can feel Steve’s eyes on you.

“How do I know I can trust you?” he finally says after a minute of silence, his eyes never leaving you. “You’re part of them, after all.”

“I can see where you’re coming from, but trust me I’m not one of them.” You glance at him and you can tell that he’s not convinced yet, so you go on. “I didn’t even know who ‘them’ were before today. Apparently the reason Pierce assigned me to the STRIKE team was in hopes to get closer to you. He overestimated how close we actually are. If Natasha was awake right now she would tell you how much I hate working with those assholes… You can trust me.”

You take a look at the rearview mirror and see Natasha, but her relaxed face does nothing to ease your worries. 

Steve seems to pick up on your concerns as his features soften and, ever the hopelessly optimistic, he chooses to believe you.

“Okay,” he says, “what do we do now?”

“We have to get you somewhere safe” you check your mirrors as much as you can, making sure you’re not being followed “I don’t know any safehouses outside of Shield's radar. We need a place we can go that they know nothing about.”

“I have an idea.” he says, you glance at him and see him already looking at you, so you nod.

First of all, im in like episode 250 and so far he hasnt been shown attracted to any woman at all during the whole show so far, not even when one changed clothes in the same room as him and this is anime so you know there were other characters with bloody noses and shit. With that out of the way he wields three swords at once [two in his hands, one is his goddamn mouth dude. Its cool af trust me.] When he was little he made a promise to his best friend that he'd be the best swordsman in the world. Later she died in a tragic accident and left her sword which he still uses today. He also carries a cursed sword but he overpowers the curse with a combination of skill and sheer luck. He got stuck in a chimney. While his crewmates sail their ship he takes naps. He learned how to cut through metal by fighting a guy who could turn his body into metal blades. That's metal. He refuses to fight this liberal marine officer because she looks like his childhood best friend and its just understandably really awkward for him. He's autistic. He's a he/him bisexual lesbian. He's a gay man. He's ace/aro. He's whatever you want him to be babey!!

He not only has a sword he has *three* swords. He's absolutely gay there's no way to see this man as straight. Also one time he licked his sword for no reason and that was really funny to me so I had to mention it

Look, this man thinks about three things: Swords, His Captain, and Booze. He’s on a quest to be the worlds greatest swordsman. The Live action has a scene where he declares his undying, unwavering loyalty to his captain WHILE reaffirming his promise to be the worlds greatest swordsman. At this point His dream and his Captain are so intertwined it’s crazy. Man is so sword-y he’s got three of them. When one of his swords broke he carried its empty scabbard until he was able to give it a SWORD FUNERAL. He hears a sword is cursed and takes that as a challenge. He will literally tell his swords off for “bad behavior” when they “act up” due to being straight up cursed. He tests one by throwing it in the air and sticking his arm out to see if it is so blood thirsty and ill tempered that it will cut him. Even though he’s literally the first mate if you ask him what his role is he’s going to answer Swordsman.

He's dedicated his life to two things: becoming the greatest swordsman in the world and his captain, Luffy. 

He mastered the three sword style. Its his style. It would've been more swords but he could only fit one sword in each hand and one in his mouth. He wants to be the world's greatest swordsman, a deal he made with his childhood best frenemy (before she died falling down the stairs). He thought he was All That at the start and was almost completely decimated by the actual Worlds Greatest Swordsman. Now, after two years forced training with that guy, he's probably in the top tier no-doubt, and honestly could already be the best but we just don't know for sure yet. Also, did I mention: he's got the whole demon/devil imagery going on at times. And he has absolutely no sense of direction! plus is a total softie when it comes to Chopper and all the children who somehow gravitate towards him. And he loves naps!

One of the guy's main goals in life is to be the best sword fighter and he fights with three swords which I think is telling enough of his skill.

For Sayaka Miki:

my favourite scene is the one where Sayaka turns off all her pain receptors to battle the shadow witch, uncaring of the damage dealt to her body, because what is a body but a decaying vessel you must eventually abandon anyway? that was very depression of her <3 Also there’s that one time (in the rebellion movie) where Sayaka stabs herself on her own sword to release the witch that dwells within her. and then she immediately gets up to fight back to back with her girlfriend. that moment lives rent free in my head. Sayaka is so depression and I love her for it:)

A few reasons I like and dislike the the new Percy Jackson show (and why I think the musical is better) - initial reaction

To start, I think this new PJO show is a million times better than that dumpster fire of a movie (though I love logan lerman <3). I like that it is quite faithful to the overall arcs and major plot lines of the book. I love the diversity and high caliber of actors (though I def have some Viria-art inspired character images in my head that are god-tier). I love some of the characterizations/portrayals, especially when it comes to making the character more complex (I really appreciate TV Sally for being a real person with complex emotion, though of course book Sally is my fav). And I love that it's so high budget and hgihly-anticipated (great marketing) that it is bringing this beloved story to a greater audience, especially the younger generation and older generation (as parents/grandparents) than those of us who grew up with the series.

I can boil down all of my dislikes of this show into one overarching but very essential part of the show: I don't like that it is a drama. The characters are way too serious and too every-other-moment-we-need-an-instense-heart-to-heart. What I think this show should have been is a comedy adventure with drama/melodrama sprinkled in. In the books, it's all about the banter. And the TV show does some good one-liners, but it's always so serious. I think the best part of the book is that the characters can stay light-hearted and fun despite the horrors and terrors they face. In the show, the gods spoon feed the trio most of the answers, so when they do have a good realization (SPOILER: e.g. Kronos being the orchestrating force) it kind of comes out of nowhere. TV Annabeth is so serious (I know in the first book she is her most serious, but not to this degree) and a lot of the moments when she has time to use her smarts are gone or approached differently. Percy, too. He's not just self-sacrificing (which they really lean into in the show) but he's also incredibly smart and silly. In the books he's kind of a surface-level himbo with great critical thinking, but in the show he's kind of left in the dark and doesn't get opportunities to make his own plans (also, he doesn't seem to know how to control his power (by the 7th episode); whereas in the book he def did at this point. Then there are just dumb changes to make the show more "serious" like not mentioning that cell phones attract monsters or that monsters just smell demigods and not have a 6th sense for them. I'm finding that by trying to change these small details to make it something more exciting or interesting, it's distancing us existing fans by not letting us relate to the small details that really don't matter. For the cellphones, they still use Iris messages rather than getting a payphone or something, so that's kind of a plot hole in the show that is answered by the book.

Anyways, those are my main takeaways. Now, when I say "the musical" I refer to The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical by Joe Tracz and Rick Rokicki which first premiered in 2014 but got revamped and redebued in 2017 (which is when it came into my life). I got to see it live in Toronto in 2019 with my middle school best friend, but have been an avid listener of the soundtrack since 2017 (the day it came out on streaming platforms).

The musical in my eyes is a nearly-perfect adaptation of the book. It's soo funny - def the action comedy I'm after, but does have the meaningful emotional moments (ballads, which are essential in musicals). The show itself if the full package; however, even just listening to the soundtrack gives you the whole gist. re-reading chapter 61 in the hopes of finding more info on the communication faries (there doesn't seem to be much) and oh look! that's also the "kabru and mithrun get stuck together" chapter

u want some kabumisu thoughts

kabru is trying to pick mithrun apart to best ingratiate himself so he can then sabotage the canaries' attempt to retake the dungeon before laios can defeat the lunatic magician. typical kabru solution to a problem; he knows he's not as good of a fighter as he is a manipulator. he also doesn't trust mithrun, nor does he think mithrun trusts him. the best course of action is to get mithrun as close to trust as he can for a good chance to strike.

...but he's finding it hard to do. it's not compelling him the way this sort of task usually does, even if it's his only plan.

even so, when they run into a shapeshifter, kabru's version of mithrun is physically identical and its personality seems the same as well. kabru's skills of observation are not to be taken lightly.

(mithrun is not even remotely skilled in this department. i imagine the way his trauma has changed his view of the world is also involved though)

besides being a funny gag, mithrun's evident disinterest in picking kabru apart as a person calms him down. this is when he starts to see mithrun less as a threatening enemy and more just... a kind of strange person.

i don't have much to say about this one, it's just really fucking funny. he doesn't even realize that scribbly version of kabru is wrong. i assume his vision isn't the issue here; like yes it must be limited with only the one eye, but that's not limited vision, that's "my brain doesn't parse the world the way other people's do". mithrun TBI real. anyway

(i'm trying to talk about kabumisu so i'm not gonna post all the fucking hysterical panels of kabru lamenting turning into laios if he has to cook monsters, but. go re-read chapter 61 if you haven't recently, it's very good)

not to read too much into an adorable smile, but i think seeing mithrun eat like a child is endearing kabru to him a lot. it's getting harder and harder to view him as an enigmatic adversary. sure, there's plenty of mysteries surrounding him, but he's also just... not a very scary person, nor does he hold ill will towards kabru. he's not an enemy.

mithrun saving kabru from nightmares after they eat is probably another point in his favor (even if he smacked kabru to do it). kabru doesn't know yet exactly why he's been told to tend to mithrun--why mithrun needs tending at all--but mithrun being willing to protect him in turn certainly implies he's not resentful of the arrangement.

mithrun you are so baby

talk about ship fuel... but on a more serious note, i really love how kabru jumps into action here. it's very in-character for him, but also it's just a good show of what that character is--he's already pushing himself to go above and beyond for a man he didn't want to be stuck with in a situation he didn't ask for. i think he's already fond of mithrun to some degree by this point, but even so... his concern is evident, and it's not self-serving. kabru isn't trying to keep mithrun alive to further his own goals... he's trying to keep mithrun alive because he's a person and he deserves to live. we know kabru has no qualms with murdering people if they're "bad" (and what that says for him and his perceptions about when it's okay to choose life or death for someone else is surely an entire post on its own), but he doesn't want mithrun to die nor does he think mithrun is worthy of death in general.

anyway this is why i stopped reading and started making this post. kabru wished to care for mithrun so bad that the dungeon answered his call. the way mithrun says this, it implies this isn't just a normal desire; the dungeon would be granting wishes all the time in that case. (however, through his lens, we for sure can spot the many times it has helped the touden party). the desire here was just that strong.

haha do you remember when mithrun reveals his true remaining desire at the end of the manga. remember how he didn't know before the fight was over. that he thought it was revenge he wanted. but actually it was for the demon to finish him off. haha. i just think

anyway kabumisu good. and this is only the beginning of their dynamic!!!

Someone accused me of being a hater and that pissed me off so here are all of my thoughts on the Netflix Avatar The Last Airbender live action series. What I liked, didn't like, what I'm worried about or hoping going foward, etc, in no particular order because I was just hate typing. I tried to separate my rambling into topics, but I did that after I had already typed everything. Enjoy

Zuko and Zhao:

I liked most of the fire nation characters. Zhao took some getting used to, but it was a fun new take on the character. I loved Zuko's crew and Azula's scenes. I really hate what they did with the agni kai and Zhao's death though, it really feels like they missed what those scene's meant for Zuko's character. Everyone already said all there is to say about why having Zuko fight back is a stupid idea so I won't comment on it, but having Iroh kill Zhao also pissed me off. He's supposed to die because of his own arrogance and greed and Zuko is supposed to try and help him because he's the type of person who would offer a helping hand to an enemy, despite his father's attempts at beating the kindness out of him.

Ozai:

I like what they are doing to Ozai, it could be interesting and add depth to the character, I just think it would be less ooc it those moments of doubt and "weakness" were in private? Like, in public, he is always this perfect façade but in private, the mask starts to slip away. But I think they’re going for that, so that's okay. It also adds dimension to his relationship with Azula since she also dons a mask of perfection, and this shows that she learned that with him.

Azula:

Speaking of Azula, I'm a bit worried because since we already sympathize with her, she could not be as menacing and intimidating a villain, but I hope it will work out.

Iroh:

I'm really 50/50 on Iroh. I like his interactions with Zuko, but why was he out there spewing fire nation propaganda and justifying his war crimes. My dude, what the hell.

Katara:

I really hate what they did to Katara and Suki. Let me punch someone. I won’t say much because everyone else has already exhausted this point, but yeah. Katara is so much more than a bender and a little sister. Her mother's death didn't just affect her bending, it changed everything in her life. She had to become her mother and take care of her brother when she was so young, she’s kind, caring, and a little overbearing at times. But she’s also prideful, jealous, stubborn, and has a bit a temper. She's not a perfect girl who smiles softly at the world around her. She's angry at what happened to her, she’s resourceful, she's funny, she's dedicated. This show's Katara is a bender, and that's it. And she's a prodigy at it, became a master all by herself because she don't need no man, no sir. Because #feminism is when your female protagonist is relegated to side character with no flaws apparently.

Suki:

And Suki, oh Suki... what did they do to you? Ah yes, cartoon Sokka is sexist, so instead of having him go through character growth spurred on by getting his ass beat by a girl, we'll just make that girl instantly fall in love with him and have an ungodly amount of sexual tension just so she and the audience can ogle at this shirtless man for a good thirty seconds. Yes, that's much better and not sexist at all!!

Sokka:

I like how they are focusing on Sokka's intelligence and other ways to be a hero since I've always loved that detail of his character (i seriously love when in modern aus he's studying engineering, bonus if he has a minor in arts and literature), but considering he *does* become a skilled warrior I fear this plot thread may not payoff. Like "you don't need to be a warrior to be a hero!! But here's some swordbending lessons just in case" is weird. Similar to that is what happened in the cave of two lovers: changing the answer to the riddle was stupid. It makes no sense in the lore AND makes Sokka look dumb. Couldn't he at least be the one to figure it out? The sibling moment was cute though.

Katara and Aang:

What bothers me most (after what they did to my poor girls) is that the gaang don't feel like friends, much less a found family. Katara isn't Aang's earthly attachment. If they wanted to start the romance when they look closer in age that's fine, but they could still be friends? I mean, they tell us they're friends and very important to each other, but are they? They went on a trip together and talked a couple of times. Katara should have broken him out of the iceberg on purpose because it not only shows how she disregards her own safety to help those in need, it is the inciting incident of the show and should be more than an accident. Again, she’s supposed to be a protagonist, the story is supposed to be told through HER. She's the one who should do the intro!! Not Kyoshi, Gyatso and Gran Gran.

She should teach Aang waterbending. This is Book 1: Water, why isn't that boy waterbending. That would further both the plot and their relationship. Which is supposed to be a cornerstone of the show, mind you. And I'm not saying "relationship" as in a romantic one. They should be friends, confide in one another, Katara should calm him down when he enters the Avatar state because this shows how important they are to one another. Gyatso's memory being what calms him down is cute, but if it impacts what is, again, a main plot point of the show (Katara is Aang's earthlyattachment), they shouldn’t do it. Also, Aang should have tried to firebend and accidently burned Katara. This way, Katara learns she can heal (which again is super important. Anyone remember the season 2 finale?) it also causes Aang to block out his firebending out of fear of hurting others again. WHICH IS ALSO A MAJOR PLOT POINT. Give me back Kataang, the show literally isn't the same without them.

Also, much time did the three of them spend together as a crew? Not that much, I feel like. Where's my found family?

Jet:

There are some things that I deeply miss, like Sokka's argument with Jet about the old man. The cartoon is very anti violence, it is definitely its thesis. We can discuss wether they are right or not forever, but the show is arguing that even though the fire nation citizens in the earth kingdom are living in a settler colony that serves the imperialist agenda, they are still citizens and killing them is wrong. This confrontation is so important for both Sokka and Jet's characters, and turning Jet into a terrorist feels like a betrayal of his character. And no, armed resistance like what the freedom fighters do isn't terrorism, regardless of whether or not it's morally right.

Missed theme:

The other thing I miss is Teo, his dad, and the other refugees being in an air temple. It adds a lovely grey area to the whole thing. Aang is pissed off that a sacred ancestral home of his people has been invaded and partially destroyed by machines (which also serves as commentary on industrialization and how historical sites are torn down to build skyscrapers and factories irl. We come back to the industrialization theme that the fire nation brings to the table multiple times, but a really obvious exemple is the painted lady episode in the third season), but also the people doing it are refugees running from an imperialist and genocidal army.

I think they saw the obvious parallels between the cartoon themes and real-world shit happening right now and decided to sanitize it lest they piss someone off with politics. Which ended up pissing me off.

The bending:

The visual effects where fine. Sometimes the humans ragdoll a bit too much, but that always happens. The bending looks good, but the firebenders attacking the monks in the beginning look just as powerful as eveyone else when they should be op because of the comet. The comet doesn't look thag much of a threat right now. Also in the cartoon is implied that Gyatso suffocated like twenty firebenders and himself as his final act, which is much more badass than what we got.

The creatures:

The creature design is very good, specially the ones supposed to look scary, because even the ones supposed to look cute look kind of scary here. Can you imagine anh child buying a live action Appa plushie? Because I can't. I also wish we got to see more of Appa and Aang's relationship. I understand it's probably expensive as fuck to animate, but we need them to be buddies. Remember, we have the lost Appa acr next season.

Script:

The acting is... fine. I just laughed when Aang turned to the camera and started to monologue about his personality, but that’s more on the script than on the actor. Speaking of which: oh god, please stop explaining every lore detail three times in expository dialogue. Sometimes, it's okay to tell not show (pacing, establishing worldbuilding, etc. It's why the cartoon intro exists!) but must you do it every time? And then repeat it??

Costume:

The score is obviously great, and the set design is good. Costume, makeup, and hair sometimes are iffy, but that’s because some things will never look good in live action. Yue will always look more like cosplay instead of a real person, I guess (I still think they could have just tried a very light blond wig or gotten an albino actress or something, but whatever). Wish Zuko's scar was looked more like a burn scar and less like a black eye. The clothes looked good, just a bit too "new" looking. Show me some dirt! They always look more conving when they get dirty and bloody.

They have points to improve upon, but overall, it's fun enough to watch on a weekend. But alas, the original is always better (not perfect, just better)

ok so currently there are 8 published light novels:

osamu dazais entrance exam

this novel is set just a little before the manga starts and shows us how dazai entered the agency and how his and kunikidas partnership came to be. this novel was adapted into an anime version, but a lot of things were changed (example: it happened after atsushi joined and he was also part of the assignment), so i really recommend reading the light novel.

osamu dazai and the dark era

this novel is set during dazais last year in the port mafia. it talks about dazais relationship with oda and ango and how/why dazai left the mafia to join the agency. this was adapted into the anime pretty well (although some details are still missing, but hey adaptations aren’t perfect).

the untold origins of the detective agency

this novel is set before the agency was formed. it explains how ranpo and fukuzawa met and explains their backstory. this was recently adapted into the anime in the fourth season.

55 minutes

this novel doesn’t have a specific time where it fits?? it was after atsushi joined the agency and after he and akutagawa started their rivalry. but it’s super cute!! also it gives you some insight on dazais relationship with the members of the agency. it’s just all around super sweet. this has not been adapted into the anime.

dead apple

this is just the novel version of the dead apple movie. i don’t think there are a lot of differences??? but i prefer the movie simply because of the visuals

beast

this is an alternative universe type novel. i would really recommend reading this one because 1) it’s interesting 2) it does kinda help you understand the current plot + gives you some more insight on dazais character. this was not adapted into the anime, but there is a live action movie.

dazai, chuuya, age fifteen

this is a novel detailing how dazai and chuuya met. it’s very cute and i enjoyed it!! this has been adapted into the anime, but i prefer the novel.

stormbringer

this novel focuses on chuuya, his backstory, and his ability. he’s 16 in this novel. i really enjoyed this novel. but also i love chuuya so there is a bit of bias. this hasn’t been adapted into the anime

(there’s another novel called “the day i picked up dazai,” but that one isn’t currently available for sale to the public yet (and i’m not sure if it will be), but you can find fan translations online since they were distributed during the first and second week screening of the BEAST movie. this novel shows us how dazai and oda met in both the main universe and BEAST universe).

out of all these novels, i think the least important would be 55 minutes and dead apple. 55 minutes is cute but it’s not super essential to the story, and dead apple has a movie so… also dark era might fit into this category simply because it was well adapted?? so there’s really no need to read it if you’ve watched the anime (although the plot itself is incredibly important)

Cyno was never meant to live for so long. Originally, according to prophecies and fate, Cyno was supposed to pass when his body was offered as a sacrifice to Hermanubis. But, as the spirit takes Cyno's heart and weighs it upon its scales, it comes to the realization that the child has a heart that is incredibly good. Well-intentioned, determined, and a sense of justice that matches Hermanubis itself. So, instead of taking his sound, it makes a deal with the boy. In exchange for being able to live, his life will be dedicated to Hermanubis pursuit of justice. It is an offer Cyno cannot reject. it might be from the fear of death or maybe his childish wish to help people. Honestly, the reason does not matter because he has every intention of following through.

But, in this world where relationships are written the stars, a person meant to be dead at five has no determined soulmate. Cyno does not actively seek love, sometimes ignores his loneliness with the belief that relationships would only distract him from what he needs to do. (It's a lie. He would happily accept a friend, a lover, anything to fill the gaping hole left in his chest.)

Loving Al-Haitham is not easy. It is all jagged edges, chipped hearts, and free-falling without anything to catch him. It is hard to build trust, at first, but it quickly becomes respect and interest. That interest makes his eyes follow after him whenever he is in the room. His body reacts at his presence, as if every moment close will answer the questions filling his mind.

Their lives are attuned to each other, the curse of working in close proximity with someone he loves. It is so different from the other two because he sees the man almost everyday. He sees him, is called upon, and he can sometimes delude himself into thinking Al-Haitham's actions are those of someone who has also taken a slight interest in him.

It is Al-Haitham who invites him out first. There is barely a confession of love, but there is affection in his words. Cyno accepts it all because he knows how careful he is with his words. Being with Al-Haitham is considerably better than falling in love with him. Their habits continue into a relationship and it is as if everything falls into place.

But, it is as if Celestia curses him for daring to wish for more after been given so much. He sees the emblem on Al-Haitham's back on accident, walking in on him changing his dirty shirt after a returning from a mission. The shape, the flowers, even the color— he recognizes it all easily.

Kaveh shows it off often after getting drunk. He takes pride in it, despite how much it flusters Tighnari.

Suddenly, all the moments where Cyno is a bystander to the duo filter into his mind. It's dizzying how many memories filter in. Softly, Cyno asks him about it. He asks if Al-Haitham knows of its existence and the Acting Grand Sage admits he does. He never really cared about soulmates, a mindset similar to Tighnari's. They're all soulmates and it's so obvious now.

He must be a fool.

He makes a joke in passing about how it's funny that he lives with his one of his soulmates, and he watched as Al-Haitham's confusion warps his face. He didn't know. He is with Cyno because he just didn't know—

Ah, he's be such a damn fool.

Dehya calls him a well-intentioned dumbass when he explains his plan to her, the drunken haze loosening his lips. Putting it all into words, speaking it into existence, does lighten the burden on his back enough. His logic is sound. He loves Al-Haitham, loves Kaveh and Tighnari. All he wants is their happiness, even if that means he is supposed to be alone. He gives Al-Haitham time to come to terms with the idea of soulmates when two of them are so close and people he already cares about. Cyno is patient when he sets up a dinner with all four of them and makes sure Collei is comfortable around Al-Haitham like she is around Kaveh. She isn't yet, but she is willing to try for Tighnari's sake. He knows Al-Haitham is suspecting him for meddling, that Tighnari is also keeping an eye on him. It'll all be fine in the end.

He'll be damned if he is the reason Al-Haitham can't be with who he deserves. Candace doesn't say a word but he can feel the judgement in her eyes that see him and never his fate. He asks once, in a moment of weakness after a long mission and unable to go home, what her special eye sees.

It isn't until he realizes he barely has had a real conversation with Al-Haitham that he decides it is enough. There is nothing for him to keep holding onto. Kaveh is just a room away when Cyno breaks it off and he can't bring himself to stop the burn of his heart when Al-Haitham turns and walks in the direction of his roommate's studio. He watches him slam the door behind him, setting the set of house keys away before he finally leaves.

There is nothing written for him.

He isn't meant to be with them, and he will learn to be okay with that.

Listen, part of me still doesn’t understand everything that’s happened to me over the past couple years. But these journal entries, those that I wrote while it was happening. May be the only accurate recount I can give you.

So much has changed over the years, I’ve lost and gained. I’ve gone from a naïve little boy to a kid who knows too much for his age.

So let my younger self tell you our story:

9/22/19

It’s My Birthday! Wahooo!!!!

Man I’ve been psyched for weeks! I’m turning twelve, and tomorrow I start 6th grade! It’s kinda crazy honestly. I’m not sure if I should be excited, or terrified.

But well, that’s what this journal is for. Writing down my thoughts and worries. As much as I will use it for that, I also wanna be able to look back when I’m older! It’ll be cool to see what future me thinks of present me (I hope future me is doing well!) He’s not, but the notion is nice.

I got a whole bunch of presents today! First off, I got this journal. Which seemed like a lame present at first (especially in comparison to my twin brother’s remote controlled car) but I’m learning to like it. I think… The journal is a marble red-black pattern, with a gold engraving on the front of my name “Adam”.

I also got a bunch of chocolate (my favorite candy!), as well as action figures from my favorite TV show, a few new books, a couple letters with money, and an odd red and blue crystal necklace. Irrelevant as it may be, chocolate is still my favorite candy.

The necklace was a gift from my Uncle Sam. He’s a very, err, interesting guy? I don’t know, he’s very closed off, and doesn’t seem very fond of anything really. But my dad (his twin brother. Isn’t it crazy there are two pairs of twins in this family??) Likes having him around.

My twin, Conner, got a similar necklace. Though it was a little more blue than red. Uncle Sam was very hesitant when giving them to us, almost as though he didn’t want to. It made me wonder if my dad had made him buy these for us.

I’m not ungrateful for his gift. Just, skeptical. He told us to keep the necklaces close by all day and night, that they’re a sign of good luck. Should’ve been more skeptical…

I’m not exactly gonna give up potential good luck. I’ll definitely need it for tomorrow. I’m absolutely terrified that I’m gonna get lost in the big concrete building that is “middle school.” I’ll have more than one teacher a year now, how will I remember them all?? What if I forget and walk into the wrong classroom? God that would be so embarrassing. All the looks from the other students trained on me, I can almost hear their snickering and laughing in my ears!

Even worse, what if I’m stuck in a class with no one I know? What if all my friends and my brother are on completely different sides of the building? What if there’s an emergency?? What would I do? Funny how this was my greatest fear when I was twelve.

I don’t think I can answer any of those questions, just thinking about them shakes me to the core. But, it is nice to write down on paper. Somehow the words are less scary when you can see them.

Another mild bit of knowledge I recently had was that Eren would eventually look older and have long hair. In S3 Part II, I was incredibly convinced that that would come as a result of defection based on Armin’s death. And I’m not saying timeskips are always pointless, but they are often used to get around the fact the character you wrote just Wouldn’t Do That

Everything always returns to unresolved trauma and transparent metaphors for bisexuality: 

“Hange. In the end, I’ll always be a Scout.” Jean said: I will prevent our friend from committing crimes against humanity, but I’m not like, happy about it

BUCKLE UP I HAVE A LOT TO SAY LOL.

I can’t even begin to describe to you how much I loved these parts. The changes between the two of them has been a rollercoaster. Not gunna lie I felt my heart break in the beginning of the chapter at the pool. I completely understand where she’s coming from trying to stop whatever it was between them because she is his coach at the end of the day. I appreciated how he respected her at this point because it’s heartbreaking for the both of them, but I feel like he finally understood her “it was the first time he noticed the sign of fear in her eyes, a woman fearless in most things was standing scared in front of him.” OH MY GOD OUCH?! Hakimi seeing everything and being such a bystander in their story is simultaneously hilarious and painful for him. I’m so proud of Kylian for defending her when she’s not around too. Like it shows how much he respects her and is loving her from a distance. WHICH HE DOES EVEN MORE WHEN HE CALLS THE MEDIC FOR HER. Like props to bestie Neymar seeing that something was wrong, but Kylian doing something about it has my knees weak. It’s the definition of love shown through actions, not words and I feel like that encompasses him so much throughout this chapter. The dinner with them plus Hakimi is one of my favorite things you’ve written. It’s so funny and I feel so bad for Hakimi 😂 it 100% feels like “I’m being forced to go out to dinner with my parents who are bickering the whole time, someone please help me but also thank god these two idiots are not killing each other. God help them they’re so in love with each other but in so much denial” lmao. When I tell you….the game…THE FUCKING GAME BRO. HAD ME SCREAMING LIKE I WAS WATCHING IT LIVE AND TAYLOR WAS RIGHT THERE. Heart officially warmed with them winning and the celebrations. They’re all so happy finally I’ve wanted nothing more for them. The moment Taylor hugged Kylian I knew their walls finally broke with each other. It felt like a sigh of relief that they accepted whatever feelings they had. I just know how much Taylor saying “proud of you” meant to him. As a former athlete myself, I fully admit there is nothing more satisfying and fulfilling than seeing your loved one in a jersey with your name on it and I know Kylian was dying inside when she asked for his jersey. There’s something so intimate of having your name on someones back and I know he was jumping up and down like a teenage girl in his mind over it. I know I’ve said it before, but the way you write the tension between Taylor and Kylian has be weak in the knees. They’re so intimate with their touches and you can just feel the longing between them. 

“I think if you asked me to, I would.”

“do you want me to be a good kid?” he smiled.

“yes.” She answered quickly. He moved his face away from hers and placed his lips on the top of her head, speaking on her hair.

“Do you really?” he asked.

She closed her eyes. Falling backwards on him “no.”

He spun her around again; her eyes were still closed. His thumb grazed over her eyelids before his hand cupped her whole face from the back of her neck “then will you stay?”

When I tell you I fucking melted oh my god they're so perfect. Again, the acceptance into each other has just made me so fucking happy. It’s everything I’ve ever wanted for these two. AND THEN 9.1?! OOOOOHHHH GIRL THE SOFTNESS IS BEAUTIFUL. I love their love. And fucking Ann…I don’t have a good feeling at all about her. Her talking to Verratti is giving me anxiety, especially because he’s just coming around to Taylor. Ann is going to fuck it all up somehow and I don’t want to see that at all.

3. what is your oc's fatal flaw?

for funny clone-- probably fear of change. hes the one most aware of how messed up the horde is, but he won't leave because he'd rather stay where he's comfortable than take action.

shitty clone-- that he truly honestly sincerely believes his lived experience is universal (he knows mentally that its not, but forgets a lot). he doesn't try to be an ass, but its difficult for him to show empathy for others points of view when he doesn't think that other points of view are even real.

mom clone-- believes in the horde? hes willing to make excuses for the horrors the horde has done both to other clones and outsiders because he believes the horde is good.

which ties into the next question...

6. how easily could your oc be convinced to do something that goes against their moral compass?

for mom clone his moral compass is tied to horde philosophy, but he also has his own moral compass. by horde philosophy, things like wearing non-uniform clothes is morally wrong, which obviously he has enough wherewithal to justify doing so post hive mind. pre hive mind, he would have had no problem doing any order he was given to do, like say scrapping a clone that wasnt forming correctly in the tube and starting over. post hive mind he'd have a much harder time justifying that.

conversely, post hive mind, since he genuinely cares about his brothers well being as people, and believes the horde is good, when his brothers come to him with a problem he will first try to help them using the tools the horde gave him. for example, when funny clone tells him he had a dream of his teeth falling out, mom clones first inclination was to check his physical appearance because that is what hes been taught what is most important. but hes also willing to bend the rules when he can see the horde way isnt helping.

so to answer the question, both yes and no? its easy to get him to go against his horde moral compass, and hard to get him to go against his new post hive moral compass, to a point.

for shitty clone-- actually very hard to get him to go against his moral compass. he legitimately thinks what he does is in the right. even in horde settings if he thinks something being done is not correct he's not afraid to voice his opinions and will disobey orders if he thinks he knows better.

funny clone-- extremely easy. lol what moral compass? he knows he works at the puppy kicking factory and goes anyway. nothing in life matters to him now that horde prime is dead.

25. what is your favorite thing about your oc?

shitty clone-- assholes are fun to write and fun to draw. i love putting this beast in situations.

mom clone-- imagining my mom as a 7ft tall buff man lol.

funny clone-- hes a silly boy! i enjoy being able to try to ascribe many things to him serious or very silly. hes the most 'main' point of view character but also a silly side character and isnt the one to drive the plot forward. hes meant to be like the nick carraway to shitty clones jay gatsby, (we'll see how well im actually able to pull that off) but i also want to give him his own arc. even if i dont manage to pull off the execution of a character like how i want him to be, having an oc i think about in story terms like this feels fun to me and makes me more excited to make things.

26. Tell me a random headcanon you have about Echo

A terrible wingman--he's just too honest. If you take him to 79's with you he's gonna end up telling every hot babe about that one time you threw up in a situation that, come to think of it, is almost exactly like this one, in fact it was right about now that you started to hey wait where are you going stop come back--

Also not great at typical "flirting", for similar reasons. He's the sort of person who might show he liked someone by fussing over them... but in an overbearing parent way rather than a doting boyfriend way. I think he's very earnest and sweet once you crack that hard shell--and he's funny, which is a plus--but he isn't naturally good at being charming.

31. What is your favorite episode?

I had to reeeeally think about this one. For season 1, I'm gonna be really basic and say "Aftermath", which imo is still THE best pilot episode of ANY of the animated shows and frankly some of the live action ones too. It's just such a great introduction to the team dynamic and perfectly sets up the whole conflict of the story.

For season 2 it would definitely be "The Solitary Clone", for me. Just really great, clever writing for both Crosshair and Cody (who I also love but don't talk about as much)... and I'm sorry, this is super shallow, but Crosshair is just so freaking cool in some of those action sequences. Ever since it was revealed that Crosshair was staying with the Empire, a Cody-Crosshair interaction has been my #1 wish, and they didn't let me down.

Honorable mentions: "Replacements" (which still rips my heart out every time I think about it), "Return to Kamino" (see previous) "Faster" (judge me all you like but I have no shame) & "Tipping Point".

50. How do you hope the series will end (as basic or as detailed as you want)

Hmmm... I'm actually not sure. To be honest, the way season 2 ended, I'm really not sure what's going to happen now and I am really curious and excited to see what's next!

I think the simple answer is I want Omega and the boys to be happy. The complicated answer is that I'm not quite sure what that happiness would look like, or if there is any one kind of happiness that could suit all of them. I would like them to eventually find some sort of peace and settle down... however, for Echo in particular, I don't know if that can really exist until the Empire is defeated. Crosshair, too, is in for a pretty complicated road toward peace.

That's another specific thing I want: Crosshair alive and with his whanau, no redemption through death for this little meow meow, no sir, or I'm putting him back in his cat carrier and going home. >:( Nala Se can be redeemed through death if she likes though. I really like her--sorry, hot take--but she has gaslit gatekept girlbossed her way too close to the sun for too long.

I personally don't want Tech's death to be a fakeout--I mean, obviously I would like him to be alive and happy on a personal level, but on a writing level I would feel kind of cheated if they pulled back on arguably their boldest status quo change so far. So I suppose that, in the last episode, I would really like to see the whole team acknowledge him in some way (maybe they name some landmark after him, or leave his goggles somewhere significant)... and then everyone else hugs and is absolutely fine, forever, no take-backsies! For real, if any more of these pixel men die I will be in crisis. More than I already am, even, and nobody wants that.

First of all, im in like episode 250 and so far he hasnt been shown attracted to any woman at all during the whole show so far, not even when one changed clothes in the same room as him and this is anime so you know there were other characters with bloody noses and shit. He got stuck in a chimney. While his crewmates sail their ship he takes naps. He learned how to cut through metal by fighting a guy who could turn his body into metal blades. That's metal. He refuses to fight this liberal marine officer because she looks like his childhood best friend and its just understandably really awkward for him. He's autistic. He's a he/him bisexual lesbian. He's a gay man. He's ace/aro. He's whatever you want him to be babey!!

He not only has a sword he has *three* swords. He's absolutely gay there's no way to see this man as straight. Also one time he licked his sword for no reason and that was really funny to me so I had to mention it

Look, this man thinks about three things: Swords, His Captain, and Booze. He’s on a quest to be the worlds greatest swordsman. The Live action has a scene where he declares his undying, unwavering loyalty to his captain WHILE reaffirming his promise to be the worlds greatest swordsman. At this point His dream and his Captain are so intertwined it’s crazy. Man is so sword-y he’s got three of them. When one of his swords broke he carried its empty scabbard until he was able to give it a SWORD FUNERAL. He hears a sword is cursed and takes that as a challenge. He will literally tell his swords off for “bad behavior” when they “act up” due to being straight up cursed. He tests one by throwing it in the air and sticking his arm out to see if it is so blood thirsty and ill tempered that it will cut him. Even though he’s literally the first mate if you ask him what his role is he’s going to answer Swordsman.

He's dedicated his life to two things: becoming the greatest swordsman in the world and his captain, Luffy. 

He mastered the three sword style. Its his style. It would've been more swords but he could only fit one sword in each hand and one in his mouth. He wants to be the world's greatest swordsman, a deal he made with his childhood best frenemy (before she died falling down the stairs). He thought he was All That at the start and was almost completely decimated by the actual Worlds Greatest Swordsman. Now, after two years forced training with that guy, he's probably in the top tier no-doubt, and honestly could already be the best but we just don't know for sure yet. Also, did I mention: he's got the whole demon/devil imagery going on at times. And he has absolutely no sense of direction! plus is a total softie when it comes to Chopper and all the children who somehow gravitate towards him. And he loves naps!

One of the guy's main goals in life is to be the best sword fighter and he fights with three swords which I think is telling enough of his skill.

It is HER! The OG woman with a blade! 

Her show was so iconic that any lesbian over the age of 30 knows her IMMEDIATELY because this show probably helped her have her awakening. Fandom foremothers and fathers rise up and get your gal a title.

These are questions I feel like I can't give a satisfactory answer beyond "cuz it just is" the same way breathing is a thing that I must do in some fashion. But here's some things I've semi-sorted out over time:

My paternal family is full of storytellers, mostly of the liar and tall-tale-teller variety. I really can't trust most of what I'm told from that side about family history and their lives cuz it's always shifting and changing and full of improbabilities, holes one can drive a semi truck through. Especially my dad's stories; he has such a desperate need to seem cool and important, making up an entire military service life that doesn't match up at all to timelines and only started after watching 80s action hero war films, and even in some cases using them to justify outright bigotry. His dad used to do the similar things, about being a pilot and war hero. My aunt at least made the stories of childhood antics sound funny, and my late uncle found humor in his many medical mishaps, exaggerated in some cases, others not.

(This is also why I cannot stand some people that will bust in constantly with one-upmanship stories or a desperate need to relate and be involved by telling tangentially related tales, and always worry I'm doing, or appearing to do, the same thing as a family trait that I can't shake)

As my aunts and dad get older, and especially with one having multiple health conditions, misunderstandings due to "medicated or not?" and also probable dementia are added in, but that's at least normal, if heartbreaking.

(I also don't interact with my family much; they aren't entirely terrible people, but we don't really operate on the same wavelengths and I tend to like them better when I'm living at least a few hundred miles away. I've tested this a few times over the last 25 years or so)

My late uncle was much younger than his 3 siblings, still a teenager when we were kids, and he was into science fiction and fantasy. He was the one who told us those stories, based on the books he was reading, or the art and statues he collected in his room. I first learned of Hobbits and Rings, and the Three Laws of Robotics, from him. I watched my first episode of Star Trek with him--TNG's "Skin of Evil" actually, and though I knew nothing of the show, the characters' interactions and response to their fallen comrade struck small me in a way. My uncle was also the one who got us to draw and practice writing by making it fun and relating it to stories. Before starting school, we'd tell him stories he'd write down for us as we scribbled out drawings. Natural progression to start writing on my own once I could.

And I had a very clear and desperate urge to learn how to read and write as a tiny sprog. I wanted to know the stories for myself, and also write down my own. Cuz it struck me, somehow, that tall tales and lies were just tall tales and lies. But write it down, give it to made up characters, and then it's a story. And one of my earliest SFF memories that wasn't an animated "kids movie" but a grown up show, was a rather human story of loss and grief, even with phasers and a guy in an oilslick suit as trappings.

I knew I liked reading (and watching, and very eventually playing) stories, and how words worked together. How one could reference other stories and bounce off those ideas and themes. How to create emotions and make people laugh or cry with just some cleverly placed words, maybe a good visual and music cues. I wanted to do that, too. And along the way was lucky enough to find adults and then peers and friends willing to encourage and nurture that desire into an actual skill.

Wish I'd kept up on the drawing, though; I had a creative streak, but my interest ended up leaning more into words. I have a decent imagination, but I didn't want to use it to be just a liar. Storyteller though, seemed far preferable an appellation, and that's at least a respectable way to use made up things to tell certain truths.

....I have another bunch of questions BUT they should be the last large set :D No pressure for these answers, just see what you feel/think at the moment for them? (thank you for your patience with these, I'm chewing on ideas at the moment and these questions really help!)

What kind of relationship does Xiang have with Nat? Was it a friends to lovers deal, or a slow burn yearning, the tug and gnaw of attraction, the draw and fire of passion; or...? 2. How would you describe how Xiang and Nat fit together, as a couple, as partners; has it changed over their relationship so far? 3. What drew Xiang to Nat? What's his favourite thing(s) about her, something that makes him smile/that he holds close to the chest (or does he tell her about it? He seems a little more like someone whose love language is subtler than Nat, who will tease and flirt and say a lot of her feelings. For Xiang, is it actions, maybe? What would you say is his love language?) 4. What drew Nat to Xiang? What's her favourite thing about him? What's a detail she might have noticed and hoarded like a secret, a treasure? 5. Do you have any songs that make you think of Xiang? :D (and a supplementary question - is it music he would to as well haha??) 6. What does Xiang want, most of all? (Besides Nat hahaha - I mean, life wise). What does he think he wants, is there a particular goal he is working towards, or a nebulous thing he wants, someday? (Does he just want to be happy? What does happiness look like?) 7. What does Xiang actual need, you think? To make him happy/fulfilled? Is he aware or unaware of it?

1. He was sure he liked her the moment she walked through the door. He didn't make it really obvious at first, but with every interaction they had, his emotions started to build up. He knew that pursuing a relationship with a vampire is quite intense, but she made him feel so much until it exploded and he couldn't resist anymore.

2. They're like yin and yang. They are the same but so different at the same time. An example is that even though Xiang is not the most social person, he knows how to make people like him, not in a manipulative way lol.

3. Her smile. Sounds too cheesy but it's the truth. He can't get over her smile. His darkest day can be saved by her beautiful smile. Also, being that charming is a plus. Yes, you're right. He's most subtle with his love language (Loves holding hands tho) and I'm not saying he doesn't say 'I love you,' but it's something he doesn't need to say or doesn't see the need to as both of them are aware of it, but he understands that sometimes, you just need to hear it from someone you love. He loves having quality time with her and of course, the teasing. That goes both ways. Being able to be fluffy and funny is something they both really appreciate. He might not show much of it when they're together, even when he's having an emotional rave inside, but he will do anything to prove it to her. Like gifting her things she might want or need, or going with her to some social events he definitely doesn't like.

4. Maybe it was the aura he has, like he can be trusted, or maybe the way he can put her at ease with only his gaze. Something she noticed is when Xiang is lost in thoughts, he usually strokes his chin and starts pacing around. Sometimes he even bumps into things and swears in his language (Spanish and sometimes Chinese). She always giggles and pats him on the shoulder, making him turn around to face her. She takes that time to cup his cheeks and tell him how much she loves him.

5. He usually listens to blues. He wants a bit of relaxation after a long day.

6. He wants to live in a peaceful house next to the ocean. Not only that, but with all the people he loves as neighbors and a workshop where he can craft and sell his art online.

7. A therapist and maybe to chill a bit. He is aware and he might go... Maybe after finding a solution to this new case...

Damn this took longer than I expected hahaha.
