About us: My business is a small, family run establishment that I started here on tumblr in 2013. I’ve been lucky enough to grow to the point where this supports me, my partner, and our daughter. (Sorry, this is just my favorite picture of Bakugou’s faces. It doesn’t really have anything to do with the story. Also I hope no one minds but I decided to go a different route with the safe word ask. I hope you enjoy it)

Bakugou x Reader: Overwhelmed

Bakugou knows that being in certain social situations can be overwhelming and taxing for you. That’s why he came up with the idea for you to have a safe word that you can use in public places to communicate your needs to him without having to struggle or stress yourself out

Since you guys live in Japan, you both decided that you should use a word in a different language. This can be any word but I’d personally use a word like ‘Comfort or Overwhelmed’, so whenever you say that, it tells Bakugou that you need comfort or to leave wherever you are

If you guys are out shopping and there’s too many people or there’s so much going on that it’s too much to process, then all you have to do is say the ‘word’, and Katsuki is taking your hand and walking away to a place where you guys can be alone and take a minute to process things

If things are too much, he’s totally okay with leaving even if it means he’s going to have to return later to finish whatever task he needed to do. Nothing is more important than your comfort

Bakugou isn’t the type to push you to go out of your comfort zone. He knows how you feel and will only encourage or push you if you ask him to.

An example of this would be:

You and Bakugou were out shopping for groceries at a flea market like event. Bakugou wanted to get fresh ingredients that are farm to table. Neither of you expected the media to be covering the event. Once the media recognized Bakugou, despite his attempts to disguise himself, the media swarmed him. Not only was the crowd overwhelming but when they saw you, they immediately turned their attention to you and started asking questions.

The moment that happened you grabbed Bakugou’s hand, using Morse code, you tapped the safe word on the back of his hand. The moment you finished, Bakugou dropped what he was doing and wrapped his arms around you, telling the media to f~~~ off, he used his quirk to blast you guys into the air and went to the roof of a building.

Once there he helped you breathe and started doing exercises that your therapist had given you or that he had learned from his experience. He would ask you to either breathe with him, breathe in for four seconds, hold for four seconds, breathe out for four seconds, hold for another four seconds and then repeat and breathe in for four.

Or he’d do something like the rainbow room or other grounding techniques. He’d ask you to name something you can see that is the color that he says. For example, name something blue. You’d say the sky if it’s a nice day. Something red, you’ll say his eyes. Or he’d use the 5 senses countdown. Name 5 things you can see, 4 things you can hear, 3 things you can feel, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste.

After you’ve done that he’d ask if you want to go home or try to continue and based off your answer, he’d do whatever you’re most comfortable with

Progress Pride Flag Quilt Block Pattern & Tutorial

Don't you just love the flag of our people? Do you have an inner grandma that years to make stuff? Do you want to combine these two things and make a queer quilt?

Well, I've got you.

Behold the pattern! And my lack of graphic skills, so I drew it on paper!

Basically it's a bunch of rectangles, one half square triangle and a fuzzy cut circle. I don't know shit about quilting and I was able to come up with it. Why Centimeter, you ask? Because I'm German and that's what I'm familiar with. Why weird measurements and not jelly rolls and layer cakes and stuff? Because I'm German and quilting is not really a thing here.

Onto the tutorial!

You'll need:

A scrap of fabric of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, black, brown, light blue, pink, white each

additional fabric for the border

Cutting mat, quilting ruler, roll cutter

sewing machine

thread

pins

double sided interfacing

iron and ironing board

fabric sheers

compasses

Step 1: Cut everything. Duh. We'll take care of the circle later, don't worry about that now. The half square triangle is exactly what it sounds like. A square and then you cut it diagonally. That's why I didn't give the length of the hypotenuse.

(Note: I'm making two blocks at the same time, that's why there's so much fabric. Also this is a middle of the night project, hence the lighting.)

I'm using all kinds of different fabrics, different weights and drapes, some stretchy, some transparent, so I needed to interface some of them.

Step 2: Sew the rainbow together. 0,5cm seam allowance on everything, that's exactly the edge of the foot on your machine. Double and triple check that everything is facing the right direction before sewing. The seam of yellow and green does not get sewn fully, only 21,5 cm! That's important later! Also backtack there. Don't forget to iron.

Step 3: Sew the strips to the half square triangle. For this you have to switch between the sewing machine and the ironing board constantly. Attach the shorter strip diretly to one side of the HST, iron it open. The second strip of the same colour gets attatched to the other side of the HST and the first strip. Look at the pictures closely if you're unsure how that works. Also the strips are longer than the triangle. We'll square that up later.

All strips attatched will look like this. See how the two strips meet at the tip!

Step 4: Cut the rainbow part to size. The seam between yellow and green is 22cm long. The shorter seam from before and some seam allowance. The outsides of red and purple are 44,5cm long. You will cut a little triangle from every single colour. Do this slowly and carefully. Maybe your fabrics have stretched a bit (mine did). Don't worry, it will be ok.

Step 5: The Y seam, part one. Y seams are tricky, but there's only one for this block. So put your straps part on your rainbow part and line them up so that the tip of the strip part overhangs the seam between yellow and green. Remember that it's not about the edges of the fabric, but where the seam will be. So position the strap part so that the 0,5cm seam will meet the yellow-green seam.

But don't sew all the way! Leave 0,5cm at the tip!

Step 6: The Y seam, part two. Now, fold both the rainbow part and the strips part in half and if you've done the last step correctly, the remaining two edges will allign. Pin and sew.

I can't explain it better than I've done here, I'm sure there are tutorias out there. Good luck!

Step 7: Square up. Iron your block to that everything is nice and straight and flat. Then use the fabric edges of the red and purple to cut the remaining ends of the strips. Use the HST to cut the white. Be careful, the long side of the triangle is on the bias and likely stretched a bit.

I already added borders here. I'm making a pillow case.

Step 8: Fuzzy cut and raw edge applique. Double sided iron on interfacing is essentially double sided tape. It has two types of glue, one gets activated by 2 seconds of heat, the other by 5 or so (depends on the product). The second side is also covered with a paper that needs to be removed before the second glueing. Read the instructions of the product you are using!

Use your compasses to draw a circle on the protective paper side of the interfacing. Cut it out roughly. Then place it with the rougher side on the backside of your purple fabric and iron for 2 seconds on middle heat. If you've just ironed your fabric before and the ironing board is still hot, wait for it to cool down. Also let the fabric cool down after applying. Then cut out your circle. The interfacing will have stiffened the fabric, so that shouldn't be a problem. Then remove the protective paper, place the circle on the yellow triangle where you want it and iron for 5 seconds. Let cool.

And you're done! The applique at this point is only secured with the interfacing, but it should hold fairly well. The quilting will secure it further.

Unexpected Byler Proof

Netflix posted this for the upcoming Stranger Things Day

They chose to put in a lot of key props/costumes/sets from through out the show because everything is supposedly going to get tied together s5. But I’m gonna point out the shit that hints byler endgame and it saving Hawkins s5

First piece of imagery: the rainbow over Hawkins

Now obviously the rainbow is a gay symbol, but it’s also been seen numerous times around Mike/Will. Here's off the top of my head:

s2 Will’s rainbow rocket mentioned in shed scene

s2 Will’s snowball date is wearing a rainbow hair clip

s4 Mike standing in front of the Rainbow connection at Suzie's

s3 Max with rainbow sleeves sitting between Mike and Will

s2 Mike and Will stand in front of rainbow Apple sign in the AV club

s4 Will holding a rainbow rubber band ball when talking to Mike

Also, the lyrics from the never-ending story from s3 go along with this picture's byler saving Hawkins imagery.

"Rhymes that keep their secrets will unfold behind the clouds" = Will's secret about being gay, being in love with Mike, and the truth about the painting and his speech will be unveiled to Mike. Mike's secret about not being in love with El and instead with Will will be unveiled to Will and El. Their secrets unfolding will be the first step to defeating Vecna.

"And there upon a rainbow is the answer to the never-ending story" = once Will and Mike confess their secrets, they will become a couple and join together to defeat Vecna and save Hawkins from what feels like to them a never-ending nightmare. Hence, the netflix pic having a big rainbow over the word HAWKINS.

Let’s look at this rainbow over Hawkins a lil zoomed out

The arcade sign, vecna’s clock, a hellfire shirt, and a tiger face within the hawkins highschool sign are in the immediate surroundings of the Hawkins rainbow. All these things correlate with byler saving Hawkins.

The Tiger correlates to Will-- in s4 he had multiple tiger objects in his room. He had a tiger figurine on his dresser, a tiger stuffed animal beside his bed, a tiger picture on his dresser, and another tiger picture behind his easel.

@aemiron-main made this post and @doriandrifting made this post that explains how arcades/games are byler coded. I’m not sure why this piece of byler evidence correlates to byler saving Hawkins, so if anyone wants to figure that out that’s be great!

Vecna’s clock being next to Hawkins just show that vecna is going to be the main threat s5, the person that byler is going to kill.

And let’s look at that Hellfire shirt

It’s got a tentacle/vine going through it with lightening striking it to the right and a demogorgon behind it to the left. I think this Hellfire shirt is Mike’s because 1) he’s the first person shown in the series wearing it 2) unlike Dustin and Eddie who wore shirts and jackets to cover it, Mike wore it as a stand-alone piece. So, the vine going through Mike’s shirt could mean he does indeed get Vecna’s curse s5, and with the demogorgon and lightening surrounding the shirt, it could also mean he gets trapped into the Upside Down similar to Will s1. Maybe when Will and Mike to save Hawkins, they'll be fighting Vecna in the ud because of Will possibly going there to save Mike. From the show, there's proof of Will going to the ud to save Mike; in their last heart-to-heart st4, Will follows Mike to sit together on the upside-down couch.

Second piece of imagery: the dice

Now there’s a couple of things to discuss with these dice but first and foremost I just need to get this out of the way: WE WERE RIGHT AB THE GAME FORESHADOWING S5!!!!!!!!! *throws fist in air victoriously*

Ok let’s get down to business. The 20 is what kills Vecna, not the 11 in the st5 foreshadow game. The fact that they included this dice roll in the pic means that it was important plot-wise. There're already clues from the show that tell us Byler = twenty (here's a link to a previous post I made ab that), but we're focusing on the new evidence this pic brings to the table. The things immediately surrounding the dice should indicate who the 20 is, and the things immediately surrounding the dice is Mike's sunglasses and Will's wizard hat. Something involving Vecna's is again seen next to byler imagery with his rose-door being the only other thing immediately next to the 20 dice. Again, it's hinting that byler is going to kill Vecna.

But let's look at how now Will's imagery is caught up in the vines and Mike's are free-floating. This alludes to Will being caught by Vecna during the battle and Mike having to be the one to save them by confessing his secrets. (EDIT: I should’ve clarified better, but I think this is Will getting trapped by Vecna during their final battle because of the rose door being right next to his trapped hat. When Max was trapped by Vecna in the UD that rose door was always there floating above them in the air.) I've already speculated that this is going to happen considering Mike's seen by Will as "the heart" of the party and has always been the one to save Will in the past (s1 Mike was nice to El which led to her helping them. In s2 he figured out the Mindflayer could spy on them + what he said to Will in the shed scene gave Will strength to tell them how to kill the Mindflayer), but it's nice to see another sign indicating what is to come.

I think that's all the byler saving Hawkins evidence within this pic, but I still think it's batshit crazy that there's any in it to begin with.

Paranatural: On Max's Possessor Being Purple

In this post, I speculated that the Sphinx who is obviously possessing Max might have purple spectral energy. Because, you know, black isn't a color of any regular light rainbow, and it's been associated with purple a couple times.

...But that's all pretty loose evidence. And it also wouldn't explain why it's possible for it to do things like possess him, since spectral energy color is pretty dang important in this comic!

First of all, why purple?

Starting with the weaker evidence, Max's spectral energy displays a (mostly) violet aura here, when he's reaching out to his bat -- notably not using his bat's powers, just using his own spectral energy, which he hasn't really learned to control yet.

2. Max glows purple when he gets possessed and levitated by a spirit inside him -- and I'm assuming it wasn't the grudge who just flung him off the train. And although it's a different style, this is also a purple aura surrounding his regular spectral energy, like above.

3. The cat-eared chair is purple... inside of his dreamscape, where we see several other hints towards sphinx-related theming.

4. Also in the dreamscape, when Max says "I don't do promises," there's a purple background when Boss Leader jolts and notices something else. It's possible that Max's words invoked his spirit, since we know Sphinx powers trend towards making words into reality, and promises are just words!

And adding to this: We don't know how well Boss Leader can see spirits who are intentionally hiding themselves, but it seems at least a little weird to only barely notice someone ostensibly connected to Max's brain, sharing his senses. But what if that being wasn't as connected to Max's brain, because of the spectral energy not quite matching?

Precedent for energy color mismatch

Mina says this in relation to using her "chartreuse" spectral energy to connect to the Ghost Train's teal.

Who's she referring to here? Could it be... her former mentor, Agent Summers, AKA June Puckett?

June is seen doing metal work, is implied to have died in a fire-related incident, and her hand has what might be scales. And we know a fire and metal guy with scales! It's Forge!

We know that people can inherit spectral energy color -- not genetically, just through exposure, like Isabel with her grandpa. So it's possible that Max inherited his color from his mom, whether as a long-delayed response to living with her for years, or if her ghost hung around him for any time afterwards...

And if June Puckett has black energy, that would make a lot of sense if she was a medium for Forge... he's got grey energy! Grey and black are similar in their lack of specific hues, but not the same color, which would explain Mina's comment.

But also...

Assuming the above is true, Forge's shade of grey is really not dark! It's a pretty mid-value grey, actually closer to white than black at its lightest parts. (I don't think grey energy has any special properties -- it's just the distance that's notable.)

Now, we know that white spectral energy "works as if it was each color simultaneously." It seems pretty likely that black energy does not share this property, or indeed have any notable special properties, because...

...those properties would probably be noted by the many people who already have them.

But maybe it does have one hidden use, even working just like every other color: if you have black spectral energy, you're still equally close to every other color! That means, although it would be a bit of a challenge, any color of spirit (or at least the darker ones) is possible for you to connect with!

(It would certainly be a useful trait for another black-energy spectral who, say, collects tools and converses with them... especially when not every spirit can hop out of their tool and re-heal as easily as Eightfold could.)

So picture this: You're a sphinx with purple spectral energy, and you need a way into Mayview. Fortunately, while on your last legs, you find a family on their way to move there. What a bounty! You possess the boy, he's gonna bloom into a purple spectral who can heal you up, and you'll be in Mayview, easy peasy.

Unfortunately, when the kid starts turning spectral in town, his energy is black. How is this gonna replenish your energy? And you're trapped - You're just gotta wait for this kid to die?

The Nature of the Beast (Black Ooze)

This post includes spoilers for Welcome Home a little bit, but there are also several spoilers for science fiction/horror movies/tv/stories.

It's nothing new though, I think the most recent reference is Deep Space Nine. Also !Spooky Pictures!

A history of oozing blob-like creatures in American film and television--

Ominous Obsidian Ooze:

According to tvtropes.org, this trope (of oozy black stuff) is called “Ominous Obsidian Ooze.”

It is defined by a black ooze, often shiny and often in stark contrast to its environment (and of course the example picture is Supernatural) . It is believed to have evolved from the prevalence of and concern about oil spills and other pollution. I think, for me at least, that pollution does really fit the vibe. It reminds me of Pollution from Good Omens.

So black ooze (the creature/entity) often leads to pain, mutation, unnatural death, and “even a Fate Worse Than Death.”

(So help me if we find out Sunny is the weathervane on Poppy’s house…)

Anyway, the ooze is speculated to have evolved from a fear of pollution, but also basic human fears such as water too dark to see into and water that you shouldn’t drink.

The closest association I have from this trope is the Stephen King short story, "The Raft," which was dramatized on Creepshow 2. I saw this as a younger kid, and the whole thing was spooky. There is a group of teens at the lake, probably playing hooky and definitely smoking cigarettes. They swim out to a raft in the middle of the lake (think floating wooden platform) and then this black slick on top of the water appears, and starts stalking and eating them, and they are trapped.

Just for you, I went to see what the plot is because I probably have misremembered all the important bits.

So, then the beastie pulls someone through the cracks on the raft, and they are no longer safe on the raft. The remaining woman faints, and the remaining guy can’t swim to shore while it is eating because he’d be leaving the woman to die, and he couldn’t swim fast enough while hauling her. They spend time taking turns watching and then end up committing the sin of sex, so death it is.

The thing that I find interesting in this portrayal of the black ooze is that it is attractive to the viewer. I guess secondarily, I find it interesting that this is a monster of inevitability, kind of like the Evil Dead universe, where they are trapped in one spot, die upon leaving the safe zone, but at the same time are convinced that they will die if they remain in the same place. What I’m trying to say is that someone needs a chainsaw hand.

(Evil Dead has some black goo in the form of on or coming out of Deadites.)

Of course, there is a version in DvD, named “Black Pudding,” deltailed as “large ooze, unassigned.” So thank goodness the ooze in neutral. It is very strong and has a strong constitution. Immune to blinging, charming, deafening, exhaustion, fright, and being knocked prone. It also can eat through 2-inch thick wood or metal in 1 round. It can also climb, including hanging upside down on the ceiling. They can be split apart into separate entities of a smaller size with certain hits taken. This is actually pretty reminiscent of the puppetmaster creature that I saw before, the Puppeteer Parasite, which seems to be somewhat cross-referenced to the pudding monster. The Puppeteer Parasite catches a ride and eats your life force. It can make you do things. Star Trek had its own version of the black blob monster, Armus from the episode, “Skin of Evil.” The concept in this episode is that the people of Vagra II had found a way to remove all evil from themselves and it mainifests as a black goo that can take the form of a human shape. It could also absorb people, and inflict psychic damage and physical weakness while you were in there. This guy famously killed Tasha Yar. For some reason, I must usually skip this one, because it is very vague for me. Anyway, it wants to torture people (castaways normally, they abandoned him on this planet) he wants to find a way to find those that made him for revenge purposes. Fun fact: Later that year, Ensign Mariner, furious over Boimler being promoted to lieutenant junior grade and transferring to the USS Titan, threatened to "feed [him] to an Armus." (LD: "No Small Parts")

You could make an argument that Odo from DS9 is a creature of this type, as he is a shapeshifter that spends a necessary amount of time in a liquid state regularly. If he doesn’t, he will be forced to revert (forced by his body). Any time Odo is in a liquid or shifting state, however, he is gold.

He doesn’t know if there are any others like him at the beginning, but as the show progresses, he forms a difficult relationship with his extended family, who exist as a sort of single consciousness, like the Borg, but more evolutionary instead of tech-based. When the changelings are in their natural state, they essentially look like a gold ocean on the planet’s surface. While this is dark, it also has the gold highlights. In fairness to the theme, though, these are not good people and they believe themselves to be god-like creatures or at least more worthy than anyone else. There is a whole period of the show where the paranoia of who is humanoid and who is changeling reaches a fever pitch. Listen, I could talk DS9 all day. I think the original version of this being is the classic movie monster, The Blob. “The Blob is an amorphous mass of alien goo that appears in the 1958 film of the same name. Appearing as nothing more than a mass of red gelatin, this creature possesses animalistic intelligence, acting purely on the instinct to feed. It feeds on flesh and gains mass as it consumes other creatures.”

Common tropes for ooze monsters:

Mesmerizing

Grows when it eats

Eats all life forms it comes across (the changelings qualify for this, but only in the conquering sense)

Eats the inexperienced

Can’t be killed by guns, electricity, or fire

Inescapable (at least seems to be)

This quote: “The Blob does little else except eat and grow” Same girl, same. But I think that the eat grow cycle is the thing that might be most important about this kind of monster. For Welcome Home, that could be a direct link. We have seen the black goo underneath Home grow during our time with the website. We’ve also noticed stringy bits that have started to reach outward from home, like fingers looking to grab. Whatever else this force is, I think the idea that it is trying to devour people/puppets in some aspect is the right idea.

I am completely unsure whether my mom deep down has realized that I’m trans and is refusing to acknowledge it or if she genuinely believes that I am just trying to push myself to experiment more with my fashion choices.

But my attempts to alleviate dysphoria without coming out did take an expensive turn today. I recently bought a few pairs of fem glasses (2 very cheap ones and one pair the same price as what I normally get), and one of them has since not only become my favorite pair, but is now what I think of as “my glasses”, rather than my boymode glasses (which are technically gender neutral, I just don’t really like the style anymore).

But now I feel weird seeing myself in my old glasses, so I wanted to find some way to justify wearing my new ones. The problem is they are rose gold, and while I 100% could wear these in public and nobody would notice or care, nor should they, my parents will look closely if I show up with new glasses of a different style and then they will confront me about them being rose gold.

So today my mom decided the fun thing to talk about would be to look at old pictures of me when my weight was healthier and had less hair loss, and say how much better I looked (and I agree, I looked way better objectively, but it does not feel like me and I have no desire to look like that again, so the whole thing just left me feeling awful and trying not to cry), so I decided to try and put a positive spin on it by playing a “game” where I picked out a pair of glasses and asked her to pick one for me, and I said it should be a completely different style, and then maybe if I liked one of them and it was cheap enough I’d get it.

So I picked a pair that looked basically like my current ones but cheaper and gold instead of rose gold, and she picked one that was basically exactly like my current glasses, but more masculine and without a frame on the bottom of the lens. And she was very against the ones I picked out.

So I decided to try and twist it a bit to sound like a spur of the moment thing and basically (but in a more convincing way) said that’s almost the same as my current glasses and she’s so stuck in seeing me in this same style, so just to prove a point about needing to try new styles and get used it it I’m going to buy the ones I picked out.

So later on I went and found a similar pair (I wasn’t quite happy with that pair), and bought them. I would have gotten the same ones I like in a different color, but they were kind of pricy (at least for me) and I didn’t want to spend that much. But also I found a rainbow frame that I think would be really fun for pride (the organization I work for is always short on people to volunteer for the pride parade, so I have a good excuse to go without coming out).

So now that’s 5 new pairs of glasses this year so far. Granted, 3 of them are very cheap and the other two are still cheaper than anything I bought back when I bought glasses at physical stores, but still. Especially buying a new pair that’s just a slightly worse version of my current glasses in a slightly different color because societal expectations of the gender I was wrongly assigned say that a slight red tint makes these unacceptable, and I’m not quite ready to come out and even though I could totally get away with these ones anyway normally, my parents are extra attentive and judgy about that sort of thing. If any of those things weren’t true I would just wear these day to day.

But I think it’s important that I slowly start dressing more like how I want to, to minimize the amount that it feels like I’m “suddenly a different person” when I come out.

its also a comfort thing!!! im a bird adeptus without wings or a bird form as a dd im a living wepon every even if the dream god tore them again dds can regen our heads i will have wings again in like a minute and if i really want to hen its awkward but of i angle it right there strong enough to break other drones caseing (my wings as xiao where normal feathers my life has also been almost constant trauma and i would pretend to use finchy looking wings to hide or hug myself and playing genshin was our escape we where still plural and we would listen to alot of genshin asmr and i think thats how i formed as a fictive) i think its also linked to my hyperfixation on md and my main comfort charater right now being a N (hes the yellow dd in the gif and my pfp :3)

ive also been gaslit and a defining part of being a dd is that you used to be a normal worker drone before you got infected with the absolute solver and it did some mlp infection stuff and messed with our memories theres a whole episode about it (cw for robot gore flashing lights anf 1 line of ablism against narcissists if you click the link its the episode) having anatonamy instead of wanting it is still kinda new to me theres a theme with them about how xiao was enslaved as a wepon for the dream-god and dds arnt supposed to be unique but xiao gets to be a person and the dds are unique anyways that i resonate alot with to its nice to see the systems that let the bad things happen be villians instead of when i tell people that the thing that hurt me was school and they try to find reasons why it was my fault

This probably won’t shock anyone, especially on Tumblr, but I wanna share anyway because it’s freeing.

¡We’re polyamorous! We suspected it a while ago, but now officially coming out about it because we now have 2 girlfriends and a new crush.

~~ Happy rambles about our lovers / how we found out: ~~

We met our first girlfriend, M (she/fae/they), in September of 2023. She was the first lover who actually met our needs and paid close enough attention to learn our nonverbal communication and subtle tone clues (“eh” can mean yes or no, but it's yes if it's higher pitched & quick, & it's no if it's lower, drawn out, and wobbles in the middle (eh-eh)). Fae started to identify which laugh was flustered vs happy / amused vs anxious / uncomfortable. They started to catch on when we weren't okay and ask what was wrong before we had noticed a shift (so we usually said “nothing”, but as an unsure question)...and usually 2 to 5 minutes later we'd be like “oh.” and update that we're anxious, we're slipping into flashbacks, depression had upticked. She was also the first lover who ever looked at us adoringly, with what we later learned is called ‘heart eyes’ (we got used to boredom or annoyance). They like most of our music, which we hadn't realized was important to us. She cared about our pleasure, and they would ask about our needs and if we needed anything to change. Overall, fae raised our standards for a romantic relationship, & also for a sexual one.

M then built a (mostly unintentionally) fem polycule, with other nonbinary &/or woman-ish identifying people. S (she/they) came first, but they're pretty extroverted and we're very introverted so that wasn't super compatible (M is an extrovert by a small margin). Then F (she/they/fae) came into the picture, but they didn't respect our boundaries or establish any communication for consent so we didn't get along & we didn't feel safe around fae. And then B came into the picture.

B (she/they) has purple hair and lots of tattoos. We're queer overall, but dyed hair and tattoos make people of any gender attractive. She called us cute a couple times, but held back until we began to shyly flirt back in a show of interest and consent. They called us adorable, and we chatted a lot about gender and society and drug misuse (to the point is harms the user) and deep conversations. M let on to us that B was a shy gay mess, & unlikely to make the first move.

We decided we liked B and wanted to date her too, and were willing to make the first move. We hadn’t actually practiced polyam before, but decided to attempt to be bolder and do something about the crush that was starting.

So we went into the V-Day section at a Winco and picked out some more casual items— some plushies that were also pillows. A sun pillow for M (because she says we’re a light in their life), and a baby chicken for B (because she hadn’t been flirted with in a supportive and cute way before, & we thought the idea of “picking up chicks” would be cute n silly based on what we knew they liked). We also grabbed a chocolate flower that had a rainbow wrapper because it would be gay and fun.

On that Monday (not V Day) we swung up while she was with M and S, at S’s apartment (which M purposely arranged because she thought it was adorable & sweet that we like B). We brought M her pillow, which she immediately snuggled and smiled (had been having a rough day, so very good sign). We then said “I have more” and went back to the car to bring in B’s gifts. We handed her the flower first, then pulled the pillow out of the bag we’d hidden it in. They got excited, snuggled the chick into their face, and she exclaimed excitedly “¡you got me a plushie!” She then ate the chocolate, but kept the plastic stem for nostalgia.

We then got tucked into the corner of the (L shaped) couch, because M scooted over to encourage it. We chatted for a bit, then S went for a walk to get fresh air, leaving us alone with B and M. M was snuggled into our left side.

Tentatively, I said “you can cuddle if you want” to B. She immediately scooted over to snuggle happily.

For a few minutes, we stayed like that as B scrolled their phone nervously and smiled at her screen blushing.

But then M wrapped both arms around our left leg, snuggled in, & fell asleep. B set her phone down, took her hair out of its ponytail, and settled down. They grabbed our right arm to wrap it around themself, then fell asleep holding our hand.

I stayed there, frozen and excited, for a minute or two, then breathed gender euphoria and victory. B clearly liked us back, and seeing them both asleep was adorable as heck.

S got back, which woke both B and M up, and said they were exhausted and were going to bed but that she’d put on white noise so we’d have a bit longer. S went down the hall to the bedroom.

M got up to get food for everyone, realizing it was around 8p and we hadn't eaten since lunch. M brought mac n cheese over and sat down to our right on B’s other side. B (still tucked against us) looked to M and said “your boyfriend is cute”, and barely missing a single beat I took the opportunity— “could be your boyfriend too 👉👈”. B startled upright, and we got a very excited and enthusiastic yes, which meant we were officially dating 2 people and successfully practicing polyamory.

We finally got our first date last Tuesday, after a failed attempt the week before (they felt ill and we were trying to finish the onboarding process and schedule our work orientation), which went amazing. We talked for about 6 hours in happy ADHD rambles (them unmedicated, me medicated).

About 2 weeks ago, we met A (he/him). At first we were like, “cool friend, 10/10, and has trans masc boyfriend so safe and friendly”. But we started to catch feelings. We decided to nudge him about it, letting him know (synesthesia) that our girlfriends had gold sparkles around their name, and “apparently my brain now adds sparkles around then name of people I get crushes on”, and then nudged that 3 people had sparkles. He quickly caught on, and with that consent he began openly flirting. We’re not dating yet, but we might have a boyfriend soon. We weren’t expecting (as an introvert who rarely goes to social events) to successfully build a polycule, especially this fast, but...here we are I guess, & I’m excited and hopeful for the future ☺💖.

Happy discovery story aside, ¡this is how I’m officially coming out as polyamorous! 💜 We added another LGBT+/queer flavour to our list, unintentionally 🏳️‍⚧️🏳‍🌈.

He doesn’ t know who will be there the next day , who he might have to leave behind . He can keep the memories , everyone can be kept in a memory . MORE MUSIC OF THE FUTURE . This is the type of song Jack would blast from her little hidey hole on a good day . Music that is illegally downloaded and shared around the Normandy . Glyph would play this to get the party more rowdy I think . A song to get people on their feel and MOVING . Someone DEFINITELY listens to this while in combat . Do I have a definitive answer ? No . Can I picture everyone listening to this on the battlefield ? Yes and I cannot narrow it down just yet . Get on your moccasins big boy we got a Reaper to take down

Indoctrinated characters RISE ‼️‼️ this song is about religious / catholic guilt so be careful if you listen ! But I can definitely take this and apply it to Saren + Benezia very easily . Characters who have moments of clarity and knowing what the Reapers are doing to them , but not having enough power anymore to fully pull away . Too many ifs , too many maybes , too many nights spent hearing the whispers of the Reapers . Repeating their words while having that voice in the back of their heads questioning and wondering if they can still get away from all this . Just knowing what is happening to you but not being able to stop it and the realizations of your condition so few and far in between

Combat theme . Everyone at the end of their ropes , the candle that was burned at both ends , the final push to tip them over . Angry with where they are , how they ended up there . Oh hello Mr. Kaidan alenko . How are you . This song is so loudly Canadian it is hard to not picture him . This makes me think of Kaidan and his LI postwar . Learning how to live , navigating normalcy . Becoming more civilian than solider , after everything is over . Since I have my own personal biases I AM picturing Joker and Kaidan specifically . How I prepare for rituals.

Hello! I decided I wanted to make several posts regarding my personal practices and how I do things in case anyone wants to try them!

I thought it would be best to begin at the beginning and talk about how I prepare for rituals or spells, how I cleanse both myself and my space.

Preparing the altar:

I think different traditions have their ideas of how an altar should ideally look, and in a following post about casting circles my altar will look a bit different. My Fylgia is a deer, though I am often visited by a fox spirit as well, and so my altar has lots of deer things/a fox pelt. I usually change it to represent the seasons and when I had a shelf over it, I kept pictures of my beloved dead there. I think its good to put a bindrune for spiritual power and protection beneath the altar cloth (or skin in my case)

Usually before a ritual I will wash down my altar with sea water before I set it back up, I started doing this both to physically clean up ash and the like and to spiritually wash away old energies

Aside from physically cleaning my altar I also think its good to clean my space before a ritual. It might be just me but I think a clean space makes for energies to flow more smoothly, so I take out the trash/recycling/sweep or vacuum if I need to.

So that's that on the altar! I'll go more into it in my next post.

Preparing the self:

I love to shower or take a bath before ritual and usually try to focus on my intentions while I'm doing so. If I'm preparing to do a spell to increase my wealth, a soak in a gold and sparkly bath bomb seems like the appropriate thing to do, or incorporating roses into my shower before a love spell etc.

I think dressing for ritual is important too! Sometimes (most times.) I do things naked, but I also think its nice to put on a nice gown or robes and my jewelry or make a season appropriate flower crown to wear and stuff, I just feel better coming before the Gods either naked or dressed nicely.

Alpha brain state:

This is something I was taught when I was living in Salem and learning under Laurie Cabot. It's sort of a meditative technique used to shift into your alpha brain state, the state of dreaming, which I find very useful before divination or ritual or casting a spell. It involves visualizing the colors and number order of a rainbow in your mind with your eyes closed, when I do it my eyes sort of go up as if i'm looking at my forehead. You visualize a red 7, an orange 6, a yellow 5, a green 4, a blue 3, an indigo 2 and an orchid 1, and then generally I continue deeper into this state by counting from 10-1. When I finish ritual I close my eyes again and count from 1-10 and then 1-7 during my grounding process.

What We Learned From Podcasts This Week: Wizard Of Oz, Xylazine "Tranq" & Bread Tags

This edition of "What We Learned From Podcasts This Week" truly runs the proverbial gamut, from the length of an iconic film to a new, deadly street drug to deciphering the age of bread you purchased via the tag.

One of my most helpful podcasts this week was NPR's Life Kit, where I learned how to take better naps. Forget learning a second language. Now, that's a skill I really need to study in depth.

**************************************************** The U.K. podcast, Verbal Diorama is an example of a superb film history podcast that is sadly lost in the spacious landscape of podcasting. If you're a fan of film and film history (a TCM junkie) this podcast should be playing in your ears regularly.

On the 200th episode of the show -- March 16, 2023 -- The Wizard of Oz was covered that week. Now, that's a tough assignment for a film history podcaster because this movie has been exhaustively covered. But our host, Em, brought up an interesting point about the length of movies. Today, superhero movies run three hours or more. The 2023 film, The Flowers Of The Killer Moon, had a runtime of three hours and twenty-six minutes.

But back in the olden times, filmmakers believed that movies over two hours could hurt box office receipts. When The Wizard of Oz was complete, MGM executives thought the movie was too long and sought cuts.

For an advance screening, MGM executives had removed the iconic song “Over the Rainbow” because they felt it slowed down the film.

Associate producer Arthur Freed stepped in, telling studio head Louis B. Mayer, “The song stays—or I go,” to which Mayer replied: "Let the boys have the damn song. Put it back in the picture."

Can you imagine The Wizard of Oz without its signature song?

On the February 21, 2023, episode of The Journal podcast, WSJ's Julie Wernau goes to Robeson County, NC, which is ground zero for a new dangerous drug called xylazine, or "tranq."

Xylazine (also called “tranq” or “tranq dope”) is a non-opioid sedative or tranquilizer. Although not a controlled substance in the United States, xylazine is not approved for use in people.

In the last few years, drug dealers began adding "tranq" to fentanyl that was dispensed to their customers. From 2010 to 2019, the proportion of heroin and/or fentanyl deaths in Philadelphia where xylazine was detected rose from 3 to 28%.

Xylazine also causes serious, recalcitrant skin ulcers and necrotizing wounds. In the episode, we meet Ashley, a young woman with these ulcers on her leg. Like so many others, Ashley got hooked after a doctor prescribed opioids after she suffered a broken foot.

Research is still ongoing about why users get these open sores. Xylazine withdrawal is actually worse than opioid withdrawal and can engender violent behavior.

Xylazine and fentanyl drug mixtures place users at a higher risk of suffering a fatal drug poisoning. Because xylazine is not an opioid, naloxone (Narcan) does not reverse its effects.

Salad with a Side of Fries is a podcast that lives up to its promise to answer questions on wellness and weight loss for real life, which includes drinking, eating out, and skipping the grocery store.

After all, host Jenn Trepeck declares, "What’s a life without fries and dessert, anyway?"

Every Wednesday since August 2019, the podcast has cleared up myths, misinformation, bad science, and slick marketing surrounding our nutrition knowledge and the food/diet industry.

On the February 2, 2024, episode of its Nutrition Nuggets series, Trepeck explains a basic nutrition fact that seems to have escaped a lot of people. On the five-minute episode, Trepeck discusses what the different colors of bread tags mean.

Now, I didn't even know that the colors of bread tags signified anything, and neither did the 20 people I asked at my gym.

Trepeck explains that these color-coded tags indicate the date the bread was baked and packaged. It helps staff keep track of what was baked when, so they can rotate out older loaves as needed. Most grocery stores follow the schedule below:

Monday – Blue

Tuesday – Green

Thursday – Red

Friday – White

Saturday – Yellow
