Horikoshi Breaking Away From The Typical Shonen(and Media In General)Formula and DudeBros Can't Stand It.
I kinda wanted to talk about Horikoshi's writing; because it is really good. I feel like all the hate he has been getting and has gotten is so stupid. Not enough people are talking about it. (Probably because it's the Izuchakos making a ruckus.)
(⚠ I encourage everyone to try and keep in my mind that if you ever see people like this: do not interact. Just report them, they are not worth your time. And if they annoy you,try and stay kind and respectful,if they don't return the favor: REPORT. I don't choose what you do though,so,if you want to talk to them be my guest, but I encourage you to be respectful to try and spread positivity whenever you can even in the midst of a fucking asshole. We are all people behind these screens at the end of the day so let's be kind and civil.⚠)
Is Horikoshi Objectively Bad At Writing?
Okay, real quick,to the people who have and do @ Horkoshi to insult him and his manga: WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?! As long as Horikoshi hasn't done anything actually wrong, like a crime or somethin' you should not @ him to call him an awful person because you don't like that the story isn't going in the direction you thought it was and now you're throwing a tantrum how he writes.
Obviously everyone has an opinion, but for a thing to be objectively bad writing would be:
No Consistent Plot
No Foreshadowing (That's more of my opinion, but still)
No Character Arcs
Close To No Character Interactions
And No Passion
This would be objectively bad writing, but no matter what you opinion is on Horikoshi and his writing, this are things he EXCELS in. You may not like it,but he does, especially in the foreshadowing apartment, which again is a more personal critic on most shows and things I read. If something has no and or bad foreshadowing I kinda hate it. But the arc for the story and characters has been consistent if you have actually read the manga. Like,I see people who left the fandom and dropped the manga and come back like,
"I dropped the manga, and I have no idea what's happening, but I'm just gonna say it bad and make no sense because I watched season one and read the first ten chapters >:( " People will admit they have not read all the chapters or dropped the show/manga And will claim they know it's bad even though they don't have any knowledge of the show essentially. And these people are typically Bakugo antis,so it just goes to show: People who read all of it have the same understanding of the people who have barely read any of it in regards to Bakugo's character.
Bakugo's Death Not Being a Redemption, But A Way To Show Izuku's Feelings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(*I could not even fathom the feeling of working so hard, and people @ you that. It is so sad. I feel bad for Horikoshi,he does not deserve this hate,so,I will continue making posts about antis like this until they kinda disappear out of embarrassment when a certain relationship becomes canon.*)
Okay, here is a problem with shows in general:
STOP KILLING OFF CHARACTERS TO "REDEEM" THEM.
It is just so...lazy. Like, you can't write an actual good character development arc so you kill them off just so you don't have to keep them as a villain or whatever.
And with Katsuki,he's already redeemed himself. You know with the best apology to ever exist. This temporal death is important to his and Izuku's relationship. It was to show people, like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(*this is funny because this person used an "anti bkdk" tag for just Horikoshi's writing. So,they are admitting Horikoshi is a shipper, and that it is close to being canon.*)
The thing he spelled out wayyyyyyy before this.
Example:
Tumblr media
Katsuki's death was to expand on Izuku's Black Whip arc,and to show that his feelings, the ones he has to control, cause him to become selfish.
And the whole "there are no stakes" argument is so stupid ,this manga is not about how Izuku can kick ass,it's about self love, love, forgiveness, self forgiveness, and just the impact that feelings have on people's lives and the world. If a show or book needs to have death to make their story interesting then the author isn't good at writing. And if you need death to make a story interesting for you, then watch and or read something that has a lot of character death. I also hate that they are so self absorbed that they claim they are the TARGET AUDIENCE.
Ego And Target Audience
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(*That last one.did this person really just say that...a Fictional story was made up? I-I...I am mildly disappointed in this person's IQ. Or maybe they're too smart for me to understand.*)
Tumblr media
...I...wha? Honey,Hori started making manga because his mom loved his drawings,Inko is also based off his mother, and Horikoshi is just a more emotional guy overall. Look,I think this manga is for EVERYONE,but things can have a target audience, and that target audience may be: Woman,"Feminine" guys(or just guys who's masculinity is not so fragile they can admit they have feelings, thoughts and emotions, and maybe they aren't the target audience for everything),and queer people.
Look, these are the people who understand and are more impacted by the story more than people like this, who have such a big ego that every main MC who's a dude is for them. Izuku, whether you want to admit it or not,is in touch with his feminine side. He openly cries, shares his feelings,(unless they're his feelings for Kacchan) has emotional intelligence, and is just kind and sweet to people in general. He has what most people would describe as, "feminine traits."
Tumblr media
So,no,you are not the "target audience" ,but you can enjoy books, movies, shows, ect, without being the target audience. It may mean more and be more impactful for woman and mainly queer people such as myself. Which it has.
When Twice and Toga corrected Overhaul on using the wrong pronouns,I teared up. I never, and I mean never, had someone openly call me by they/them pronouns in my day to day life,so to see someone get the respect they deserve they way I've never had, made me a little emotional.
Tumblr media
(*For context they were happy that Hori killed off Katsuki and they were making jokes about how it "ended bkdk," and was all dandy until Hori brought him back, then they started insulting the manga.*)
So,to sit there and insult Horikoshi, for writing the manga the way he's intended to,and at the same time claim that you are the target audience is so...Egotistical. And it honestly shows how much, these people will contradict themselves just to try and be right. Because if one Shonen, show, movie, book, and or comic, isn't about them their whole life is OVER. They act like a Shonen having a canon queer MC is the death of them,LITERALLY.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It really pisses me off the these people will say this is for them;and then as soon as something happens that they don't like,or proves that they aren't the target audience and not everything is going to cater to them(or their previous assumptions of the manga were wrong, and people that have been pointing this stuff out for years have been proven right),they immediately go to death threats and complaining.
Conclusion:
Stop insulting Horikoshi's work because it isn't what you expected, then turn around and claim you're the target audience. Horikoshi has been working HIMSELF TO DEATH to finish this, and you are seriously going to @ him to die because he didn't kill off a character? He's been working on this for ten years and is going to end it the way he wants to,the only person that has him at "gun point" is the people actively @ ing him because they can't handle the very thought of a Shonen MC being queer. And Characters do not need to die to make stories good.

BKDKs on Twitter really pretending to SUDDENLY care about Iida because Ochako holds Izuku's hand in the OP. As if they aren't going to completely toss him aside when Bakugo's apology overshadows the IiDeku handhold.
Bkdks are just so transparent and easy to read. The people who rant now and want "justice for iida" are the VERY SAME people who always call him irrelevant to the story, boring, annoying, talk down his friendship with izuku and still havent forgiven him being rude ONCE to izuku in the very beginning of the manga before he and izuku even were friends (ohhhhh but anti bakugou people have to forgive bakugou ABUSING izuku for 12 YEARS, right?) and unlike bakugou didnt need over a century to apologiez! Lets be real, there is maybe just 1% of bkdk shippers who are really mad that it wasnt iida. For the majority thats not what the real problem is. They arent mad, because iida was "swaped" with ochako in the opening, they are mad because it was ochako and NOT bakugou! NOT ONE OF THEM would complain if instead of ochako reaching her hand out for izuku, if it would have been bakugou! Despite that there is no such moment in the manga between them! Its all about their shipping agenda. The anime can be as inaccurate as possible, bkdks dont care as long as bones highlights izukus and bakugous relationship even if its not manga canon.
Also this whole debatte about the opening confirms how bkdk shippers absolutely dont read the manga, because the scene with ochako holding izukus hand is accurate to the manga even if its not 100% the same ankle of the hands or place! You can see how they completly skipped the moment ochako stood up for izuku inside ua and had her big speech (of course they skipped it, izuku was totally focused on HER and not precious bakuboy and wanted to talk with HER afterwards and not with precious bakuboy after his insult of an apology). Ochako and izuku DO hold hands!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Its there! Bones simply focused for a moment on izukus and ochakos bond, while not spoiling to much for only anime watchers and bkdk shippers lose their shit!
This is like this whole dabatte again, when bones animated an completly unimportant only anime moment, in which izuku stands side by side with ochako and not bakugou! Like they just stood there, they didnt even looked at each other or talked and bkdk shippers lost it, as if izuocha was just confirmed canon!

Hi! I’m new. Like, yesterday new. Feel free to ignore this, but I can’t help but notice the bitterness for Bakugo. Can you explain why this is? I think he has a lot of poorly executed potential as a character.
Bakugou to me is in fact that, but I find that his entire execution is just flat for me. His redemption arc just falls so far down and doesn't work. A real redemption arc has a character learning they were wrong and making up for it. Actions have consequences and people will be wary if the character was bad enough. An example is Zuko: he had to WORK for the forgiveness of the Gaang, and he needed to learn he was wrong.
Bakugou doesn't do that. He apologizes and all is forgiven: then he goes right back to his usual antics, having learned nothing. He is still rude, aggressive and cruel. Sure, 'sorry' was said.
But did he mean it?
I don't think so. then again it's a cartoon character.
But a lot of my anger is the fact that his actions are never properly addressed by the fans or the narrative. Can you honestly admit you would be willing to be friends with the guy who called you names for over a decade, would use his Quirk on you which is explosions (which is canon. No, it wasn't just verbal, but verbal is just as bad), and told you to kill yourself? All of this occurring a bare year ago? (Yes, Izuku is 14 when canon starts, and 16 later but given that the Japanese school year STARTS in March-April, it really wasn't that long ago. Even then, trauma is trauma.) Bakugou is constantly babied by the narrative and people constantly come up with excuses for his behaviour. No one goes: Hey, so that's fucked and not okay. It's always: well his mom hits him, so he should be forgiven. He got attacked by the sludge villain, he got kidnapped-
On and on, people do not like to admit Bakugou is NOT a good person.
Bakugou could have been an amazing character who starts off as a big fish in a small pond, only to be just another fish in UA. He could have been a character that grew and developed. Who could have realized that he needed to be better. We get told about how those with Flashy Quirks get to do whatever they want, and then are told Aizawa doesn't agree. I would have loved to watch Bakugou be forced to actually grow up.
But he never does.

Hey guys! As promised, here is chapter 2 of Ripple on Ao3! The Sentinel Ring is a made up movie plot that is NOT canon. I just needed to boost the significance of a certain item along in my story. I suck at making images like this so shout out to @pluggedINTube for the awesome All Might art!
Chapter 2: An Odd Offer
July 15. Izuku’s birthday. He couldn’t hav—. He did. He completely fucking forgot. Shit.
Also…over 4 months of no texts from Deku? He wasn’t on a mission that Katsuki was aware of during that time and at least 3 more movies about heroes came out in between that he’s certain Deku would have invited him out to see even if he turned him down. Was Deku mad? Could he even get mad at Katsuki? Greenie doesn’t have a mean bone in his body unless it’s for villains…
Double Shit. Even Katsuki had to admit this was a major fuck up on his part. Had he really gotten this bad? Even at UA (hell, even Aldera!), Katsuki didn’t forget the nerd’s birthday. Granted, he’d just text HBN (Happy Birthday Nerd) or sign a card with his parents and send over a gift card to Epic Enigma—his favorite hero merch store, but never has he just forgotten. And the nerd even texted him on his own birthday too. Damn.
Maybe I can get him something to make up for it. Not to apologize, because Katsuki Bakugo doesn’t apologize, except that one time in their first year at UA when all of class 1-A went to go get Izuku from being a vigilante, but ever since then, the apology factory in the blonde has been decommissioned. Maybe he can go pick him up something at Epic Enigma, and have it sent over to his place. Oh wait. Does he even know where Deku lives now?
The blonde pinches the bridge of his nose. There really is no good recovery from this, but the nerd is easy going. He’ll forgive me. Right? I just got caught up in work; if anyone gets that it’s Deku-tHE NuMber FIVE hErOoo! I’ll just tell him I’ll make it up to him next year. Promise him a few hero movies and make him his favorite dinner. That should at least soften the nerd up, right? Right?! Right.
It’s 12:50PM. No response from the nerd, but he read the message…Damn. Maybe the nerd actually is mad. Or he’s busy. It is the day before New Years. He might be out with IcyHot or Round Cheeks or…Shaking his head of the thought Shindo and Deku together, Katsuki continues his mission of hightailing it toward the mall before it closes early for the evening celebration.
-------
“What. A. Piece. Of. Shit.” Katsuki mutters, looking at the fashion disaster in the Warrenco branded box. In his hands was supposedly specially ordered, a “unique, handcrafted” kimonos, pre-ordered months ago by his mother for the New Year Shrine visit. He continued to stare into the cerise box as if by sheer will power alone would change its contents, but to no avail.
The beautifully textured fabric he knew his parents had standardized was replaced with a sleek, poorly dyed material. The seams weren't carefully aligned, and the embroidery, which was supposed to be of a mythical phoenix, looked more like a squashed common pigeon. He noticed the red bleeding into the white, the loose threads, and the uneven stitch work. In essence, it was a gut-punch manifestation of the commercialization over craftsmanship, quantity over quality. The kimono was merely a mockery of skill and beauty, an insult to the legacy his family had built.
Katsuki could still remember the aroma of Bakusan—his parents' quaint fashion house, not too far from the outskirts of Musutafu, the warm hum of sewing machines, the soft sound of scissors plowing through heavy silk, and most importantly, their utmost dedication to quality on any and every piece of fabric. They had created a world of their own, crafting every piece with an abundance of love and precision, ensuring that each stitch was purposeful.
Bakusan was at the height of the fashion empire when Katsuki graduated, but his parents made a shrewd business deal with some hotshot, up-and-coming online fashion company: Warrenco. Figuring that the world was already diving headfirst into online orders anyway, Mitsuki and Masaru Bakugo sold the company and retired since Katsuki wasn’t interested in balancing out the hero world and a fashion empire. It went well…until it fucking tanked. Warrenco got involved in some shady underground deals, and unbeknownst to them, in its start-up was even funded by Detnerat that was eventually taken over by the League of Villains. Given the natural technological world, Warrenco flourished for a bit even after the war was over, but once that connection was made? Down the drain it and its supporters, suppliers and consumers went, and Bakusan went right along with it.
Katsuki wouldn’t say that designing fashion is one of his forte’s though he used to model for his parents, but he and Izuku did go through a brief period of inspiration of hero costume design. God…the nerd had a field day with that, which was ironic to the blonde given the nerd’s personal lack of style. You would think some part of Katsuki would have rubbed off on him a bit. But Deku could think of the promising implications of fashion on hero work: comfort, sterility, quirk correlation, personality appeal and even how to better fortify certain pieces of fabric to power-up attacks and up defenses. ALL THAT…and yet the nerd wore stupid t-shirts with the word “T-shirt” on the goddamn front of them in the dorms. Really?! His parents were convinced before Deku got his quirk, they’d take him on as an apprentice if Bakusan ever went down the route of hero fashion and costume design. Holding the “designer” kimonos in his hands…yeah. They really should have went that route. Had he known, Katsuki would have made more effort to figure something out if it meant saving Bakusan from the shit in his hands.
Though he wouldn’t confess it to the hag and his old man, Bakusan meant more to him than a business; it was a tapestry woven with threads of memories, love, and familial legacy. Now, the Bakusan standard of ornate trims, exquisite fabrics, and artisan tailors was consumed by corporate sterility underneath the faint whiff of synthetic fibers.
An invisible dagger pierced his heart. A sighed “fuck” escaped his lips; it was impossible not to compare it to the work his parents would have done, the kimonos they would have created. He could practically visualize it: the smooth, handmade silk, the exquisite embroidery telling a story, the perfectly aligned seams...
“Yeah. This is an utter piece of shit.” He says aloud.
Wrestling away the thought of high-fiving the poor store owner in the face with an AP Shot who was only the receiver not the maker of the shitty things, he forced himself out to the mercy of the mall again, tucking the crimson coffin of crappy kimonos in the bag. Probably better an idea for Pro Hero Dynamight to NOT make a scene today.
Seeking some distraction, he made his way to Epic Enigma. The store is Katsuki’s favorite too since he and the greenette had always frequented there growing up, but the nerd took his obsession to a new level. The blonde suspects it picked up when Izuku didn’t get a quirk, so he hyper-focused on heroes, hoping for the day his came in. It didn’t help that Katsuki turned into a complete overbearing asshole to the kid which probably upped his obsession even more losing friends because of his quirkless status. His quirk finally did come in—seemingly as a royal fuck you from the universe to Katsuki—in the form of their mutual ultimate hero: fucking All Might.
Damn the nerd’s luck, but Katsuki can admit now as a more mature-levelheaded adult that there was no one else in the world more worthy of One for All. Izuku is a self-sacrificial pain in the ass—but even quirkless, the greenie’s a hero. A determined, hardworking, honest, kind, strong, hero with a body carved from the sturdiest oak that Katsuki’d like to climb like a goddamn tree—ahem. Anyway…the point is Izuku has Katsuki’s respect as a hero, as a person, as a man—always did actually, it just came out of the blonde as an insecurity to the nth degree when they were kids. Katsuki’s not the same asshole he was back when they were younger...he now was just an asshole that’s been distant to and forgot the birthday of his childhood best friend, turned punching bag, turned one-sided enemy, turned rival, turned whatever-the-hell-they-are-right-now-but-Katsuki-prefer-it’d-involve-them-both-fucking-at-some-point-acquaintance.
The blonde facepalms at the reminder. He wants more with Izuku, something deeper. He truly does; he just can’t voice it. He wishes sometimes that he just went for it that night. Just said what he truly felt for Izuku, but he didn’t. He just didn’t think there’d come a time where the nerd never followed after him again or at least be interested in someone else so much to consider marriage…in their early 20s. Seriously, what was up with that? You can’t possibly balance a relationship and climb the hero charts. One of those things has to give given how dangerous the field is and that’s why Katsuki’s still convinced damn Shindo is just trying to ride Deku’s coattails (and his dick-much to his dismay) to the top.
“I’ll fucking kill Pan-Quake, if he hurts…” The blonde pauses mid-whispered rant. Am I really any better? I lied to him, avoided him, didn’t make any effort to have a basic friendship with the nerd at all, hell, even the rest of the stupid bakusquad know more about the nerd that I do. Sigh. Hopefully, there’s something good at Epic Enigma that can at least be some sort of peace offering to the nerd.
As he inches closer to the hero merch store, he passes by his favorite artisan jeweler, Celeste, and stops briefly to admire their wares. Katsuki may not be into the clothing side of fashion so much, but he is highly interested in the accessories: rings in particular. He viewed them as mini representations of the circles of life (Lion King pun unintended) from the people who make them. He wasn’t a fan of the commercialized, gaudy, bright popular gemstone rings, no. The one’s he searched for were local and artisan designed, so the pieces were unique and have cultural or situational relevance. He fell into it given one of the many, MANY All Might movies he used to watch with Izuku as a kid.
Tumblr media
In an old favorite of theirs— The Sentinel Ring—All Might lived in a dystopian version of Japan where most of nature was being subdued by global warming and in his city, steel had replaced trees and lights were subbed for stars. The water was heavily filtered multiple times to ensure safe drinking and its inhabitants had grown accustomed to the stale air and processed foods. This environment was the stomping grounds of the villain: Inferno Titan. The country’s abundant blues and greens were replaced with overwhelming hues of crimson and sunshine yellow, a haunting testament to the Titan's tyranny. He wasn't the typical super villain, obsessed with power, wealth, or world domination. He was a spirit born of our negligence, our ignorance, a punishment for our perennial thirst to conquer without purpose.
The Inferno Titan was a creature of flames and smoke. He derived his strength from the Earth’s rising temperature, the consequence of our years of unrestrained industrialization, deforestation, and environmental contempt. His fiery core pulsed with each degree of uptick on the global thermostat. He became more robust, faster, and devastatingly powerful. His laugh echoed in the dry wind, a taunting reminder of the world's injuries. The warmer the Earth got, the more he could manipulate fire. He could summon ribbons of flame, scalding winds, and erupt fireballs, sparking wildfires that ravaged natural habitats. Entire landscapes crumbled under his blazing rage, turning lush forests into lifeless ash and vibrant cities into somber ghost towns.
In the beginning, All Might struggled against the Inferno Titan time-and-time-again with both sides always ending in brutal stalemates. Desperate to find a solution, All Might and his team bore into countless hours of search into a solution until they discovered a tribe of a mystical indigenous people, known as the Xyro, in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest, staunchly protective of their secluded way of life. The Xyro held a secret, a mystical relic, "The Sentinel Ring," passed down through generations. Legend whispered it held the power to call forth the strength of a pantheon of ancient earthen gods.
Tales of the Sentinel Ring found their way to All Might, whispering promises of victory buried deep in the South American jungle. With hope in his heart and determination blazing in his steely blue eyes, All Might departed from Japan and plunged into Xyro territory, seeking the ring's mighty power.
Arriving at the foot of a colossal, ancient tree that hummed with the energy of the Earth, All Might was met by the tribe's sage, Orian. She studied All Might, her jade eyes profound and piercing. Only after witnessing All Might's humble spirit and heartfelt dedication to protect his world did she guide him to the shimmering golden ring. It was then All Might heard the whispers of the ancients for the first time.
When he placed the Sentinel Ring on his finger, an indescribable force surged through him. It was as if the spirits of the ancient gods had fused with his own, elevating him to a new tier of power. With this profound strength coursing through his veins, All Might thanked Orian and the Xyro tribe, promising to use the ring's power valiantly.
Back in Japan, the Inferno Titan wreaked havoc, hoping to draw All Might into a final clash. All Might—of course—rose to the challenge, wearing the ring. The villain snarled, confident that the hero had met his match. However, the moment All Might activated the ring, the clash changed drastically. With the power of the Sentinel Ring and the spirit of gods behind him, All Might charged. The resulting clash shook the city and was witnessed by all of the world. The battle was fierce but short; the villain could not stand the power channeled through the ring.
Finally, the Inferno Titan was defeated, and peace returned to the country. All Might looked at the golden artifact on his hand, humbled by the tribe's gift. Back in the rainforest, the Xyro tribe celebrated, elated that their precious heirloom had once again helped to protect the world. The Sentinel Ring was not just a testament to their heritage but a beacon of hope for all.
The day saved, All Might thanked the ring and the Xyro for their aid. However, the battle had taught him something crucial: that no matter where you were born, in city streets or deep in a jungle, everyone has the power to make a difference.
After that movie, the hag practically had to rip rings off of Katuski’s little fingers whenever they had a photoshoot because he wanted to wear as many as possible. All of them didn’t even fit his stubby digits, but he was so the enthralled by the lifeless objects that he couldn’t resist. It was like each circle was of silversmith art and wove a tale waiting to be unraveled, and little Katsuki could change the world with them on, just like All Might.
Many of his rings now came from this shop as it had shipments from all over the world and various assortments of products that held significant meaning for the country they came from: necklaces to ward of demons, bracelets that could induce love (Note for Katsuki later), and even earrings for shielding against certain quirk attacks. Most were preposterous, but Katsuki collected them for their look, design, and from where and from what they were made of. If he’s honest, he’s kept up the façade so well, he’s pretty sure not even the nerd knows about his obsession which may rival the latter’s hero merch collection, and THAT is saying something. So far Katsuki has a pretty impressive set with rings traversing almost each continent and every country he’s been to for vacation and hero duties. Some sing of the warmth of African sunsets, echoing African tribal carvings. Others whisper the stories of swaying cherry blossoms in Japan with delicate engravings. A few still carry the robust cheer of Irish pub songs and Celtic knots. For Katsuki, these rings were not mere objects but luggage of culture, history, spirituality, and emotions from various parts of the world: little fragments of countries encapsulated within the boundaries of a band.
Total cost of his collection? Considering when he started his project and the types of rings he gathers, he’s hitting close to 125,929,370.00 yen (a little over 860,000 US Dollars). There is only one ring that’s eluded him though. It was created in the fall of their 2nd year at UA and was on display at this very store in that winter. That ring—where only a few hundred were made—is now an international collector’s item marking up to 292,970,000.00 yen (a little over 2 million dollars).
It wasn’t known at the time, but it was the rarest of rare. A series of small meteors occurring once every 200 years or so had fallen out of orbit in October that year and landed in scattered places across Japan and ONLY in Japan. The impact of the falls ranged from destroyed vehicles to sizable indents in the sidewalks and the stones were a glorious amalgam of brilliant orange fading into black with red and yellow in swivels that lit gloriously against the sun. So many came to earth that the country’s meteoriticists made quick effort to determine the safety of being around or in contact with the stones. After they were cleared for being non-lethal and non-hazardous, many of those who were skeptical simple left the stones as they were while others took a more creative approach, hence the rings and other pieces made from the fallen cosmic pieces.
Katsuki at the time was wrestling with a lot mentally. Still a hot-headed and brash teen, he was reeling from mental recovery of their first year: surviving kidnapping, the forced retirement of All Might, injuries and death in the war, survivors’ guilt for Edgeshot’s sacrifice, his unexpected growing feelings for Izuku. It was a lot and yes, he had his so-called bakusquad, but even they couldn’t fully grasp the entirety of it. Not like Izuku could anyway. Ultimately, he grew through it, but felt alone for most of it; trying to make sense of what it truly means to be a hero and process the trauma they all experienced.
So, when he saw this incredible set of rings that winter at Celeste as a teen, it made him feel understood as an out of place being, too intense for any one city. Both of them, masking an interior as hollow as the void between the stars. Both of them, bearing the colors of an emotional storm: crimson eyes, ash blonde hair, vibrant orange and black laced into his hero costume to the ring’s intricately carved black walled outer band containing a swivel of speckled orange, yellow and red as if capturing a still shot of the cosmic explosive stone before its inevitable crash to the green earth below; he mourned his inability to afford it the time.
Tumblr media
Upon closer inspection, the ring didn’t just share his colors, it shared his very temperament. Its warm, seemingly living hum echoed the volatile nature of his spirit, instilling in him an unexpected sense of kinship. Katsuki pondered the intergalactic journey the meteor must have had before gracing his path. The fear, courage, chaos, and finally the fiery arrival – it was the space version of his tumultuous life. Perhaps he reasoned, they were similar: elements of fierce natures, misunderstood beings, admirably bright but scaringly intense. He found comfort in the ring's potential silent companionship, a paradoxical solace in their shared vivacity and lonesomeness. There was only one other being on the planet who ever made Katsuki feel like that…that same level of connection and belonging when he felt the world didn’t understand him. And that being was getting proposed to tonight.
No. I gotta stop him. Katsuki thinks, bracing his free hand through his blonde spikes in frustration and awe at the realization. I want him. I want Izuku. I love Izuku. He can’t be with someone else, he’s mine. I gotta fix this.
He makes an abrupt turn to head toward Epic Enigma, only to crash into someone, knocking the person on their ass at the impact. Upon seeing her, he’s the first to respond:
“Oi, kid!”
The blonde gains his footing slowly, rubbing the back of his head in the process and coming into eye contact with…a rather strange girl.
She looks up at him and gasps, her eyes widening in wonder and disbelief as if she recognized him. Sitting below him, with a tearful expression that Katsuki couldn’t quite understand—unless she’s a creepy fan—was a girl who had to be no younger than 14. She had a yellow backpack with on a familiar hero-school attire of a long-sleeve, button-up white shirt, a gray jacket with blue-green stripes, and a red tie with a dark blue-green pleated skirt, and a small, golden button on her tie. She had white perfectly coiffed hair with black streaks, two small horns on either side of her forehead, eyes shimmering like cosmic galaxies with glittering hints of a familiar rosy red, and a voice of innocence that he somehow knew would echo wisdom beyond her age. Despite her oddity, Katsuki felt like he knew her somehow.
Her face, so familiar yet foreign, evoked a mix of emotions inside him. Suddenly, the girl  squeals like a running piglet and scrambles over to hug him tightly. Katsuki is utterly confused, but has the sense of mind to make sure he can still feel the weight of his wallet and his phone in case she’s a pickpocket. He gently, but firmly places his hands on her shoulders and takes a step back—being careful with his hand movements. He doesn’t want reporters or anyone who’s watching and recognizes him to the wrong idea as she’s a minor and he knows the media can spin a web of lies better than a spider.
Then he noticed it. Sitting on top of her garish yellow backpack (hmm—reminds him of someone) was a ring. Katsuki was pretty sure with how many years, he’d been searching for one of them, that it was one of the Celeste rings he’d been pining over moments before. And…it was just…dangling on her fucking backpack next to an omamori charm for protection. That’s fucking…stupid. What dumbass gives a teenager a multimillion dollar ring as fucking key chain and then hopes for protection?! Shitty Dickhead is practically asking for the girl to be robbed! Part of him wants believe that there’s a high chance that the ring is just a coincidental look-alike, so against his better judgement, he leaves the matter alone, hoping it doesn’t turn the girl into a walking target of some kind. Guess it’s a good thing, there’s an omamori next to it—damn kid’s gonna need it. Very few people would notice unless they were close to her or even understand its weighty value without researching as much as he does. If Katsuki were less of a man, he’d try to buy off of her for cheap, and Katsuki was not a lessor man. He did think about it though. He shakes himself of the thought and comes back to the present.
The young pro hero looked down at the disheveled girl now smiling at him—tears still pouring down cheeks as she wipes them away aggressively. Confusion etched his face as he tried to comprehend what was happening. "What the hell are you doing, kid? Do I know you?" he asked, concern lacing his voice. “And shit…you look like hell, you alright kid?”
The girl quickly composed herself: "Oh, I'm sorry!" she exclaimed. "You just reminded me of someone special.” Katsuki’s brow furrowed while lifting one, curiosity shining in his crimson eyes. Before he opened his mouth, she continued.
The girl: Katso-Uh…I-I mean, Dynamight. Could you tell me…what’s today’s date?
Katso? He thought that maybe it’s some new fan-made nickname. “Are you fucking kidding me? It’s December 31, 2199. That fall must have jacked up your head, you sure you’re ok?”
At the statement, the girl starts to stare off into space, a palm to her lips with her eyebrows scrunched. She stands there for almost a full minute, unmoving until snapping his fingers in front of her face to break her out from blank-space gaze. Katsuki was starting to wonder if she needed medical attention.
Katsuki: Oi kid!...Fuck…let go get your parents and to a hosp—
The girl: NO! no…I-I mean really…I’m ok Dynamight. I-I’m just starstruck! Y-Yeah. Starstruck.
It’s a nice cover-up, he’ll admit, but normally fans stared at him, not past him. And they didn’t mutter things like 2225, machine, and regrets…yeah, this girl is a weird one for sure, and he’s seen some wild shit. Is she covering for someone? Is someone nearby who’s abusing her and she’s trying to send him a message for help? She didn’t look too great before he ran into her…
Katsuki: “Hey, kid…where are your paren—”
He notices she’s staring off to space again, but this time, instead of forward, she is looking up above his head and he catches signs of worry begin to edge into youthful face. The fuck is she looking at?? He says to himself. His crimson eyes follow hers to upper space above his where she’s staring—and shifts them back at her. Then…looks back up to the air and back at her…to the air and then back…he checks the time.
Oh man. He does not have time for this. He pondered a life lesson he observed from his beloved self-less nerd about caring for people, who always took the time out to talk for a bit to everyone and anyone—even villains. You never know what you learn just by listening, and Katsuki be damned if that didn’t work during the war when it came to Lady Nagant or fucking Gentle Criminal. The damn greenie could make a friend anywhere and everywhere while knocking their goddamn lights out. Damn, Deku was hot. The blonde takes a glance at his watch: 4:15PM; the mall closes at 5PM. He needed to get moving, so despite the lesson, he tried to rush her a bit.
Taking a hand and raking it through his hair, he speaks in exasperation: “Hey, ki-“
Not breaking eye contact with the airspace above him, she interrupts: Dynamight, I promise I will not be so bothersome as to take up too much of your valuable time. My name is Kisara. I’m here to talk to you specifically. I’ll cut to the chase. Y-you want something don’t you, Kat-Dynamight? Or…someone, rather?
What. The. Fuck? Katsuki thought. What kind of intro is that? I barely fucking caught it and what is with her question and what she muttered earlier AND WHAT IN THE EVER LOVING FUCK IS ABOVE MY HEAD??? The blonde hero almost short circuits trying to figure out the girl in front of him. So, in his most educated and adult fashion with years of hero training and experience under his belt he eloquently asks: “Say what now?”
Kisara only smiles and keeps her gaze above him: It’s almost time, Dynamight. Tonight. When…it…happens, don’t be too sad. I can help you.
Katsuki tenses at her words: “What? What’s happening tonight? What are you talking about kid, where’re your parents?”
“Yeah…sure” Katsuki was not convinced, but he had plans now and time was ticking, especially now that he had a new mission. “Well. Cool. You ok, kid?”
Unfazed and unbothered, the eccentric girl looks at him with newfound determination: “Come meet me at the stream on January 10 near midnight and I can help you. That’s as much time I can give you before it’s too late to make a decision, Dynamight. I’m sorry I can’t give you more time than that.”
Katsuki could swear people could visibly see the smoke coming out of his own ears from how hard he was thinking on trying to understand this girl: “Da fuck?! What the hell are you talking about?! And what about what stream?!”
Kisara: Where it all started between you two, you and Pro Hero Deku.
Katsuki takes a step forward: “What?! How do you know about the strea—?”
How does she know about that memory? What is happening on New Year’s and WHO THE FUCK IS SHE??
Kisara (In a strange move, she touches him arm and removes it just as quickly) : I’m sorry, I gotta go! Remember the stream!
He lunges while she runs into the mall crowd. The fuck? Is this tag? Did she do something to me? Katsuki follows faithfully behind still trying not too cause much of a scene in case there is nearby danger. People running in a frenzy in a crowded place like this mall makes for more injuries than one can imagine. However, as soon as Kisara enters into an empty store under renovation, she’s gone. With nothing there but ripped bare floor tiles, wires showing from the lighting in the ceiling and an expansive emptiness of no merchandise, no people and splattered coats of paint on the wall, the girl seems to have vanished into thin air.
To say that Katsuki is confused is an understatement. He rubs the back of his head again and wonders if he imagined it all.
SPEAKER ANNOUNCEMENT: Attention Patrons. Mall will be closing in 30 Minutes.
Fuck. I gotta get to the merch store. He reminds himself, trying capture some grip of sanity back from the last few minutes with the girl. Taking one glance back into the empty store, he heads to his final destination, making a mental note of laying down for a minute when he gets the chance in case he actually did have a concussion.

When baby boy saw your name flash against his in the big screen over the arena, his heart dropped
We all know Kiri prides himself heavily on being manly and drinking his respect women juice, so the fact he has to fight a girl is WRECKING him
And the fact it’s YOU, one of his closest friends and his ultimate crush,,,,
AGH the heart ache 😭💔
His friends really aren’t helping him-
Kaminari is just sighing, only saying “Sucks to be you man!”
Him and Sero are probably betting if Kirishima is gonna actually go easy on you 💀
Mina is trying to comfort him in between threats of hurting him if he so much lands a scratch on one of her besties
Bakugo is only one who really understands him at this point-he notices how down his friend looks at the news, and it almost makes him pity the red haired hero
But obviously he’s not gonna show that (emotions are for dumbasses💀💀💀)
So Bakugo grabs his friend’s shoulder, Kirishima turning at the sudden touch
“Your worries about her, arent ya?”
“Yeah...” Kiri sighs, hands gripping into fists. “I couldn’t forgive myself if I hurt her-“
“But you have to. And you are,” Bakugo states firmly, “Thats the whole point of this event dumbass. And if you sit there and mope about hurting her, that’s an insult to her. You’re basically saying she’s not strong to handle herself-“
“But she is!” Kirishima interjects quickly, eyes wide, “She is so strong! Way stronger than I could ever be...”
“Than worry less about her and more about yourself idiot! This is about you-not about some crush you got. You wanna be a hero? Than act like one and fucking fight.”
Damn Bakugo lay it on thick 💀
Even though the words are harsh, they hit close to home for Kirishima and he snaps out of his mopey state, a small, hesitant grin forming on his face.
Once the fight starts, Kirishima does exactly as his friend told him-and he fought with all he got
Once he finally pushed you past the white line, the crowd cheered, and he felt so much pride in himself-
Until he saw you hunched over, looking quite defeated
Guilt bubbled in his insides for basking in his victory while you lost, running over, apologized on the tip of his tongue-
Until he saw you look up, a small smile on your face
You looked slightly upset, but the smile was covering it up, a small chuckle on your lips as he came over
“Why you look so worried Kiri!” You grinned, shaking off the dust from your uniform. “I’m fine-that Special move of yours really did me in though, that was amazing!”
Kirishima felt completely shocked-you were taking this so well, so friendly and nonchalant...he couldn’t help but feel admiration for it
“Well, it wasn’t easy, you did an amazing job as well!” He said truthfully, chuckling as he scratched the back of his neck
“We both did amazing,” you corrected, offering your hand as a peace offering.
Kirishima gladly took it, loving how small your hand felt against his as you shook it firmly.
“If I had to loose to anyone...” you stated calmly, looking at him square in the eye,
“I’m glad it was you.”

Kirishima’s mind was going a mile a minute as he shuffled around students, “Excuse me!”’s and “Sorry!’s spilling out of his lips and he looked around, trying to find your familiar hairstyle in the crowd.
He finally spotted you in the stands, looking over a fight with Deku and Iida, your expression completely absorbed by the fight.
Kirishima’s heart instantly began to race in his chest, hands feeling clammy at his side.
But his best friend’s voice began to echo in his mind, that harsh voice saying “just fucking do it, shitty hair” somehow helping him walk over to you, his hand reaching out to touch your shoulder before he could force himself to stop.
You instantly turned at the source of the touch, your eyes softening and a warm smile growing on your face as you saw it was him.
“Hey Kiri!” You greeted warmly, “So-we’re matched against each other! How cool is that!”
You genuinely looked excited and optimistic- it was contagious, and Kirishima couldn’t help but smile.
“Well-I-yeah, of-of course it’s cool!” He stumbles over his words slightly, but instantly perked up in order to cover up his his hesitance.
But you caught on quickly, cocking your brow mischievously.
“Aw, don’t tell me your getting nervous-“
“Never! C’mon, you know me, I’m always pumped for a fight!” He shouted brightly, hoping he sounded confident enough.
You simply giggled, shaking your head slightly.
“Of course I know that Kiri...” he sighed out his name, making his heart swoon.
“Give me all you got, okay?”
Kirishima looked at you, feeling his heart beat violently against his chest as you gave him a sweet smile, your hand bent in a act of comradery.
He grinned to his left, cheeks blazing red as he took his larger hand in yours. giving it a squeeze.
“Of course.”

Ohhhh does he feel totally screwed right now 💀
Like-why does the world just always wanna cock block him?
His CRUSH
Like yeah sure, he looks at a lot of girls, but your yitties are the only ones he truly wants 🥺
Lmao so poetic Kaminari 💀
He just feels like shit
Sero isn’t helping when he pats him on the back and goes “Tough luck man”
He literally goes “WTF dude I thought you were my wing man” 😑
Anyways he’s just FLIPPING out internally
Until he gets in the arena-and realizes he’s got another problem
Cause holy shit seeing you fight is SUCH a turn on 💀
So instead of worrying about hurting you he’s more worried about you hurting him
Having you so close to him at points when he’s not paying attention-
Like yeah sure you just grabbed his wrist and slammed him into the ground-
But damn were your hands always that soft?!
Until you almost punch him near the white line does he realize how much he’s goofing off-
So he pulls out a special move that completely overrides your own quirk, making him able to win at the last moment
Baby boy feels so bad he comes running to your side and helping you up
After the fight, he proceeds to get on his knees and beg for forgiveness
He’s literally so dramatic 💀🤧
At some point you just say you forgive him just to get him to stop begging
It’s still endearing tho 🥺
・゚: *✧・゚:* ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* ✧・゚:
“Man, you’re gonna get destroyed by her!” Sero laughed, clearly unaware of how mopey his friend looked.
“Why’s that?” Kamianri sighed, his yellow eyes looking the shade of dark honey. “And why can’t you be supportive!”
“Cause dude, you can barely act normal around her-let alone fight!”
Sero chuckled, stuffing his hand in his pockets.
“Seriously, you kinda act brain dead around girls-and with her...it’s game over.”
“Ahhh, thanks for lifting my spirits dude-“ Kaminari whined, a pout on his lips as he mumbled, “And I don’t act brain dead-“
Just then, the two boys spotted a group of three girls coming there way- Mina, Ochaco, and you.
Sero grinned a smirk that could be only described as evil as he waved over the girls and shouted out a cheery “Hey!”
All three of them waved back, Mina shouting out “Hey boys!”, your shoes walking near the boys to talk.
“Oh hey Kaminari!” You smiled at the blonde, “Didn’t even see you there!”
“Are you excited for our fight!” You were incredibly happy, not phased by the fact he looked so nervous around you. “I know I am-hopefully we don’t beat each other up too much,”
You were laughing, grabbing his wrist lightly in a friendly gesture but Kaminari was dying inside- cause holy fuck you were talking to him?! AND TOUCHING HIM-
He was either gonna scream or puke-and on the outside he looked exactly like it.
But thankfully you didn’t even notice, waving a goodbye at the boys as the three of you walked away, Sero turning with the biggest shit eating grin.
“So you don’t act brain dead, huh?”
“shut up-“

Unwritten Rules
Pairings: None
Word Count: 1.2K
TW: mentions of su!c!de, angst, but then some fluff
Summary: Reader Insert, You find out about what Bakugo suggested to Midoriya involving a swan dive and a building. This makes you want to take matters into your own hands regarding his punishment but Izuku tries to stop you.
Tumblr media
When being friends with someone, there are some things that are a given. Unwritten rules you should follow, that if you don’t you’re a shitty friend. Like always having their back. Always. Even if that means putting yourself in an uncomfortable situation.
So when Izuku told you what Katsuki fucking Bakugo suggested to him in middle school regarding a swan dive and a building, you were ready to rip his disgusting fucking head off.
Who cares if you had started to like him a little bit. Any feelings you had were eaten away by the acid threatening to rise in your throat.
God who could just say that to a person? Not to mention a person as sweet and genuine as Izuku. Just thinking about it makes you see red as you continue your warpath to Bakugo’s room.
“Pl-Please don’t, you don’t understand! It was just a stupid comment when we were kids-” Midoriya tries to explain but stops himself as you spin around on your heels.
“Just a stupid comment? Izuku, he told you to kill yourself. That is the furthest thing from okay,” you say watching his fear stricken face. His eyes were wide and fleeting, presumably looking for Bakugo as if he would jump out at any moment. Your gaze softens a bit watching his expression that you knew all too well from your time before UA. “Please tell me you know that’s not okay,” you question, trying to catch his shifting gaze.
“I mean, it’s not. I know it’s not but we were kids an-and,” he trails off, not able to grasp a good excuse out of the air.
You place your hands on his shaking shoulders finally getting him to look at you. “Whether you were kids or not doesn’t excuse what he did. Not to mention, to my knowledge, he’s never tried to apologize to you has he?” you ask, raising an eyebrow.
Midoriya hangs his head before shaking it from side to side. Though dejected he still had a tense hold on his shoulders that crawled down his back and shook him. Looking from him to the first level dorms and back at him you decide that Bakugo can wait for now. Pulling him into a hug you feel as his shaky arms slowly begin to snake around you and hug you back.
You give him a squeeze and realize one of two things. The first was that his shirt was surprisingly wet and the second was that the wetness was from your own tears.
Not wanting to be caught crying in the middle of the dorm hallway, you open the door to your room and waddle inside with the shaky boy still in your arms.
As soon as the door shuts he lets out a small sob and then another a little louder. Not long after he lets them out freely as you two slowly slide onto your carpeted floor. It greeted you both with it’s plush hold, easing the pressure on limbs that were awkwardly tangled but too stubborn to readjust. Your own tears sting your eyes causing you to shut them tightly as you cling onto him, like he might disappear into thin air.
“You are so- god you are so important Izuku, I ho-hope you know that. To me, to Iida, to Uraraka, to Tsu, hell even to Shinso.” His hands grip you tighter but you continue. “We love you so much. I- I wouldn’t even know what I’d do without you. You push us to be better than we could ever hope to be and I just- I love you so much. You’re so important and I’m really fucking glad you’re here,” you get out in-between hiccups and tears.
He leans back and looks up at you with a watery smile. One that fills you with ease. One that says he wasn’t thinking of going anywhere soon.
“I’m glad I’m here too,” he says as you take your sleeve to wipe away some tears from his cheeks. He tries to protest, saying that he doesn’t want to ruin your sleeves.
“Izuku I think I did a worse number on your shirt,” you say before he looks at his shoulder and sees the darkened spot. “They really gave the class crybabies trauma and said have fun figuring that shit out didn’t they?” you joke, earning a small laugh from Izuku.
“They really did,” he affirms as you get up and reach out a hand for him. He takes it with a smile as you lift him up to you. “About Kacchan,” he begins before wringing the hem of his shirt. “Please don’t do anything about it. I’ll deal with it when I’m ready.” Looking back up at you he lets out an airy laugh. “And based on the size of the stain on your shirt, I don’t think I am right now.”
You sigh heavily, the weight of the evening loosening it’s grasp on your chest, before nodding your head in response. “Okay I won’t, I promise. But I can’t promise I’ll be nice to him anymore,” you huff before grabbing his head in your hands and giving him a kiss on the forehead. This causes a bright crimson blush to spread across his freckled cheeks.
He tries to sputter a ‘thank you’ out causing you to laugh. Classic shy Izuku, everyone loves him for it.
An idea pops in your mind causing you to stop everything you’re doing to start grabbing blankets and pillows and putting them on your floor. “Hey Izuku go get your pajamas and some snacks but be sure to be back in ten minutes,” you say, sending out a text to Dekrew (Deku Crew and yes you were all proud of the name).
“Uh, why? Is this an emotional intermission?” he asks, tilting his head with an equally confused and amused expression.
“Not exactly, I just signaled our friends for an emergency movie marathon,” you say grinning from ear to ear. At this his eyes start welling up with tears again. Hopefully happy ones this time.
“You didn’t have to,” he says as he starts getting choked up.
“I know but I wanted to and I remember how you talked about how being around friends helped ground you. We all wanted to help as much as we can,” you say before he pulls you into an unexpected hug. It was unexpected because usually he was too nervous to be the one to initiate platonic affection. Being caught off guard however didn’t stop you from returning with as much care as you could. You could feel your own tears start to prick the corner of your eyes. “Izuku we just stopped sobbing, you're gonna make me start again,” you say with your voice full of water.
He just laughs holding on just for a moment longer before detaching and looking at you. “Thank you, I really really appreciate having you in my life,” he says.
The tears you futily tried to keep at bay spill against your will. “Izuku what did I just say!” you respond with a wet smile showing you feel no real anger.
“I know, I know I’m going,” he says reaching the door.
“Ten minutes,” you remind him, “Not a minute later.”
He smiles, a genuine Grade A Izuku Midoriya patented smile before repeating, “Ten minutes.”
The door closes behind him and you try to wipe away all the evidence that you had spent the last what? Fifteen, thirty minutes crying? But you couldn’t be bothered to try and look presentable aside from throwing on a jacket to hide the tear stains. You honestly didn’t care if your red rimmed eyes and knotted hair made you look like the most busted musty, dusty, crusty troll under the goddamn bridge because all that matters was that Izuku knows he’s loved.
When being friends with someone, there are some things that are a given. Unwritten rules you should follow, that if you don’t you’re a shitty friend. Like being there for your friend and reminding them that they’re always loved. Always.
Author’s Note: dammmn I am RUSTY! but this is something that I’ve wanted to write ever since I saw the anime because that part struck a chord with me. I know Bakugo is growing and I want to clarify I don’t hate him and I do believe that you can grow from things like that. however Bakugo hasn’t apologized and I’m sure he won’t ever apologize (at least where he is rn) so Midoriya doesn’t have to forgive him. ESPECIALLY for something he was never given an apology for.
also do I simp for fanon Bakugo? absolutely. would I also fist fight canon Bakugo given the chance? without a doubt.
(also also loosely inspired by @/dinomight’s “if you’re standing (if you’re bleeding) fic on AO3)

A Look At Bakudeku’s Development (Based On That One Instagram Post): A Photo-Narrative Analysis
Word Count: 4,287 (Yikes…)
[This got long. Like, REALLY long. Don't expect too many colors. There's a lot to get through...]
For those out of the loop, I recently came across this Instagram post during unhealthy hours in the morning. The purpose of this post, I’d assume, was to debunk any negativity aimed at the Bakudeku dynamic/ship, claiming it was indeed not abusive and that the antis in question are ignoring canon in favor of playing Bakugo’s suicide instigation on repeat. Before addressing the post in question, I would like to state two things:
I am not stuck on Chapter/Episode 1 in the series. I have been caught up proper with every story arc up to the JT Training Arc and am roughly familiar with everything past that point. I don’t just take Katsuki’s now essentially forgotten suicide instigation into account; I’m taking every part of his actions well beyond that moment and how they reflect on him, internally justified or otherwise.
While I’m among the people who believe that Bakudeku as of the latest incarnation of the manga (up to Ch. 280) is indeed abusive, I am open to discussions on why it is not. In any case, however, I cannot ignore the fact that the dynamic/ship is incredibly problematic besides the skeletons in both Izuku and Katsuki’s closets.
So, in order to address this issue to the best of my half-awake brain’s abilities, I will review the screenshots within said post and break down how they factor into the Bakudeku dynamic and the overall development. Be aware that there are some manga and movie spoilers, and this is just MY OPINION. I could be wrong, and I’m okay with that. If you wanna talk without patronizing me, the comments are open. I also apologize in advance if I myself come of as patronizing. All the screenshots I’ll be discussing can be found in the video link above (or here).
Well then, no point in beating around the bush...
1) Izuku Taking Katsuki Out Of The Final Exam Gate (Anime Screenshot)
The first piece of “evidence” used to show the merit of Bakudeku comes from the Final Exam arc, shortly after Katsuki succumbs to All Might’s assault, only for Izuku to come in and deck the #1 Hero in order to grab Katsuki and carry him to safety, allowing them both to pass.
However, this photo marks a recurring trend throughout some of the other photos: they speak more about IZUKU as a character than Izuku AND Katsuki.
Izuku getting to save Katsuki is a major development… for Izuku. One that we’ve seen before. Think about it. The first time Izuku saves Katsuki towards the beginning of the exam, he has to punch Katsuki in the face because he was considering throwing the match just for working with Izuku. And after he’s been saved, Katsuki blows up (figuratively and literally) before aggressively kabedoning him. In this scene though? Katsuki got knocked the f*** out, so he really has no room to protest if Izuku comes in to save him a second time.
Plus, this isn’t really anything NEW with Izuku. We know that he’s aware in an abstract sense that what Katsuki did to him was “wrong,” but he doesn’t hold a grudge or any animosity to him towards that. He’s one of Katsuki’s biggest defenders and supporters, assuming Katsuki allows it. So really, him saving Katsuki isn’t really surprising or a major step forward, ‘cause he was always willing to do it from the get go. And again, Katsuki isn’t conscious during his second rescue, so we don’t really know if he would have let Izuku save him again or if he would have protested.
There’s nothing new here, and nothing balanced to the overall dynamic. Just Izuku being Izuku.
2) All Might Acknowledges The New Bakudeku Rivalry (Anime Screenshot)
Deku vs Kacchan 2 was a big moment for the Bakudeku dynamic. I’m not saying it’s a positive moment, nor am I saying it was necessary, but it was big. And in the aftermath of that fight, where Izuku and Katsuki are having a back and forth, All Might thinks to himself that the two have become true rivals now, or something along those lines. And it’s nice that he’s willing to spell this out for the audience and all, but uh…
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: show, don’t tell.
All Might is essentially telling us that Izuku and Katsuki are rivals now. What does the story have to show for it? A brief conversation during their house arrest, followed by a massive stall due to the Shie Hassaikai Arc and Cultural Festival Arc (albeit with one more instance we’ll cover later), and then what essentially equates to Katsuki yelling at Izuku a lot during the Joint Training Arc.
...that’s ...not much.
And yeah, you could expect me to be a good bean to the author and wait until the later arcs, but even then, the execution… just falls kinda flat, at least for me. Going back to that particular moment with All Might’s thought process, it kind of reminds me of Eraserhead essentially acting as a mouthpiece for the Ochako vs Katsuki fight during the Sports Festival, but that’s a can of worms I won’t be indulging today.
What I’m getting at is this: All Might letting the audience know that Bakudeku have reached rival status is great! Now if only the series could deliver more on that...
3) Standing With Two One For Alls (Heroes Rising)
Okay, seriously, if you haven’t seen Heroes Rising yet, I implore you, GO. WATCH IT. It is an incredible film and I would recommend it with warm words. And I’ll admit, it gives us a better incarnation of Bakudeku compared to the rest of the series.
Yes, I said “better,” not “great.”
Look, I’m all for Izuku and Katsuki working past their differences and the clusterf*** that was their childhood, and maybe Horikoshi not being as integrally involved with the film’s writing as people think he is has something to do with it, but uh… you do not say “put myself as low as to working with Deku” or something like that and expect to be casually tossed aside, at least if you’re me. And while I’m glad there was some genuine emotional tension as Izuku gave Katsuki OFA, some part about it feels… off. Like, nothing was really truly resolved. Katsuki wasn’t given OFA as a sign of forgiveness, as an acknowledgement. Katsuki was given OFA because there was an AFO level villain about to wreck the place and kill some peeps and oh look, the narrative made it so that Katsuki was the only convenient holder around! It kinda stings when you look at it that way.
Not that it matters, because a big thing most people forget is that at the end of this movie, THE ENTIRE THING IS ESSENTIALLY SWIPED ACROSS THE DESK AND ON THE FLOOR. Even if it was going to have some level of effort towards the development of the dynamic, that effort is essentially GONE because Katsuki doesn’t remember SQUAT, and what happens to OFA after the fight is NEVER DISCUSSED. It’s just a hard reset, BOOM, back to normal. *Sigh*
Really, the whole double OFA thing was for convenience, less so for any emotional leveling up that could have been done. And even then, Izuku is still somehow the one putting more emotional input into the entire thing than Katsuki.
4) “I Thought You Were Gonna Get Ahead Of Me!” (Anime Screenshot)
Katsuki’s methods of motivation are… admittedly not for everyone. They seem to work fine for Izuku, as seen sometime after the Cultural Festival Arc, but again, that’s just Izuku. We know how he takes Katsuki’s words and turns it into motivation, but why does Katsuki bother at all?
Well, maybe this comes with desperately trying to find reasons to like a character but progressively despising him and his narrative placement more and more as time progresses, but here’s my angle on it: Katsuki just doesn’t want Izuku dragging his weight for nothing.
Keep in mind, we’re talking about the same Katsuki who held a grudge against Shoto for holding back during the Sports Festival. The same Katsuki who wanted the #1 Hero to go all out and would continuously press to fight him. The same Katsuki who wanted to fight a deadly villain even after being instructed to get back to camp for his own safety. The same Katsuki who challenged Izuku to a fight to finally determine where the gap was, and who was frustrated when he won because the power Izuku possessed was All Might’s, so clearly he shouldn’t have lost.
In short, Katsuki doesn’t like it when people don’t give it their all. And I believe it’s been stated once or twice that once Izuku makes One For All his own, there’s a good chance they’re gonna fight again. So it’s in Katsuki’s best interest to make sure Izuku isn’t half-assing anything, because he wants to prove he can beat Izuku at his best, thus proving that KATSUKI is the best.
So it’s less so for Izuku’s benefit as it is for Katsuki’s own.
5) One Giant Leap (Heroes Rising)
Arguably one of the best moments of the entire Heroes Rising film amongst the fandom is the big handhold scene between Katsuki and Izuku as they make a last gambit effort to take down Nine with two One for Alls. Admittedly this is one of the best if not the best moment throughout the entire progression of the Bakudeku dynamic thus far. I’ll give it that much.
...which makes it all the more frustrating because again: MIND. WIPE. The audience knows it happened, but in canon we never know if Izuku discusses it with Katsuki or if anyone else was aware of the moment in greater specificity. IT ESSENTIALLY NEVER HAPPENED, and I’m starting to legitimately wonder whether or not it was for the best...
6) Datte Atashi No Hero (Anime Screenshot)
First off: how? Second off: huh?
Believe me, the second ending of Season 3 is an absolute bop, don’t get me wrong, but uh… again, it provides NOTHING balanced for Bakudeku, once again relying on Izuku’s perspective on the entire matter. I once read an interesting meta about this ending and how it could be interpreted (take this with a grain of salt), but the biggest contender is that this is in fact Izuku’s fantasy. Think about it:
Izuku is a humble traveling warrior, with nothing to distinguish himself in his own opinion.
Ochako is a magician because she’s alien to Izuku, an unheard of phenomenon.
Tenya being a knight, Shoto being a prince, and Momo being a warrior princess all correlates to their high standings in society, heroic or otherwise.
The reason Katsuki is a barbarian king is because he’s familiar to Izuku in an ancient sense; he’s known him for a long time. The list goes on, but you get the jist.
With this in mind, it’s not difficult to understand that even Katsuki willing to work with Izuku would be another aspect of Izuku’s fantasy: to be able to stand beside his childhood friend once more. And remember the ending of that scene, when Izuku does that big sword slash? That’s him having fully mastered OFA. Both are things that could happen given the manga’s recent direction, but still have yet to happen because this is, again, a fantasy.
And apparently Datte Atatshi No Hero is a reflection on Izuku’s feelings towards Katsuki. Take that as you will, but again, this does not speak for Bakudeku as a whole. Just Izuku’s feelings on the matter.
7) Win to Save, Save to Win (Manga Screenshot)
Since I’ve already penned myself into a short story at this point, might as well take the time to look at this famous phrase from the story.
Personally, I consider it bulls***. It harms both characters overall; yes, I said both. It excuses Katsuki’s need to be a blunt powerhouse that only targets villains, and it redundantly demands Izuku do more of what he was already doing, albeit with less sympathy. I know it sounds corny to say saving is more important than winning, but in the heat of the moment, what gets to the civilians in danger more often? Seeing a guy in a cape deck the latest disaster right in front of them or from a distance? Or said cape guy risking life and limb making sure that this person gets to see life another day?
There’s no perfect answer to it, but that’s my stance.
And this quote, “Win to save, save to win,” justifies the one thing that keeps Katsuki from truly outgrowing his past: his need to be the best. If winning is on the same level then saving, and Izuku has an innate capacity to save, then that means it’s okay for Katsuki to have to win all the time, right?
No. It’s not. And that’s not speaking for all the “Gary Stu” crap, either.
Because being pressured into being the best is what caused Katsuki to hate any kindness offered to him by Izuku. The desire to be the best had him bully Izuku for a decade to ensure that Izuku remained the loser and Katsuki remained the winner. That desire characterizes arguably the worst aspects of Katsuki’s character, and those aspects aren’t gonna fly in the Pro Hero world. Because if Nana Shimura, Shota Aizawa, the Pussycats, Mirio, Sir Nighteye, and a handful of other incidents have taught us anything, it’s that even at their best efforts, heroes don’t win all the time.
Katsuki needs to learn this, or it will crush him in the long term. But he hasn’t. The narrative has kept letting him rack up wins, and his current actions in the manga were spurred on by the fact that he still has yet to truly take a loss.
Say what you will, but I don’t like this line. For what it says about Izuku or Katsuki.
8) The Only One Who Can Accept His Feelings… (Anime Screenshot)
Me @ #7: Wanna see me go off?
Me @ #8: Wanna see me do it again?
Izuku’s perspective on the entire Bakudeku situation is a major reason why most fans condone it. “Izuku doesn’t appear obviously bothered by Katsuki, so that clearly means it’s not abusive/problematic, so just shut up!” or something like that. Well, I’m no psychologist, so I won’t go into a spiel about people ignoring their pain for the sake of others or people trying to excuse others in order to place fault on themselves whether or not it be accurate.
Really, all I can say is that NONE OF THIS should be Izuku’s responsibility.
I’m not blaming this on Izuku because he hasn’t had actual friends or a healthy support system in a long while, but the fact that he decides to take on and enable Katsuki in his element just… doesn’t sit well with me. The logical conclusion would be talking, not throwing hands. I don’t care if they’re “distressed teenagers,” neither of them should be doing this, and Katsuki was fully aware that the teachers would stop them in the first place; that’s not simply adults meddling in what isn’t their business. Katsuki should have really figured out by now that maybe the best course of action is to actually vent to someone without blowing their face off, and I get that he’s absolute s*** at feelings, but really, that’s more of a red flag that he needs to actually get help. And if you think a little too hard on Izuku’s feelings of the matter, well…
Imagine being ostracized for so long that you lose all sense of self worth.
Imagine being told time and again that your worthless, which checks out for you because clearly if your worthless, the guy that enabled that mindset is obviously better than you, and he’s entitled to use you for his own ends.
That’s what I get from this scene.
And again, this is all from IZUKU at this point; virtually NOTHING from Katsuki.
9) Double Detroit Smash (Heroes Rising)
I’ve already said my piece about the film. At this point, it’s beating a dead horse with a stick. Moving on.
10) Word of God (Miscellaneous)
Here’s the thing about Word of God in fandom: the general consensus is that it’s nice to get confirmation from a credible source, but unless it is portrayed in canon, it’s just more words which may or may not be true.
In this case, Kohei Horikoshi, the mangaka for BNHA, is saying that eventually, Katsuki will have to apologize to Izuku. Eventually.
As in, it still hasn’t happened yet.
As in, Katsuki still has yet to decide that what he did in the past was wrong and he should try to fix it.
As in, it currently shows no bearing towards Katsuki’s current character nor the overall Bakudeku dynamic.
Sure, it MIGHT happen, but in another interview (or mayhaps it’s the same one), Horikoshi stated that Katsuki originally wasn’t intended to get as much screen time as he did. Both of these situations are different of course, but with the recent turbulence of the War Arc shaking up the manga, is it really so hard to believe that an apology might slip away from Katsuki’s thought process?
On the bright side, an apology could happen. But until it’s canon, then it’s only a possibility, and therefore can’t be used fully for the intended argument.
11) X-Catapult Handhold (Heroes Rising)
I bet some people working on the movie and some fans on the movie felt spoiled when they included not one, but two handholding scenes for Izuku and Katsuki.
And while the first handhold is certainly a marvel of battle tactics, again, there isn’t much else going on with it. Is it nice to see Katsuki working with Izuku again? Yes, but contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t go past that. Katsuki’s just willing to work with Izuku, full stop. He’d probably be willing to work with anyone because Nine is f***ing tank. And sure, getting a handhold tease is nice, but it’s only to facilitate Katsuki’s subsequent yeeting of Izuku at Nine in an attempt to do damage. Nothing more pressing about the circumstances of their past or anything like that.
12) A Bit of Advice (Anime Screenshot)
Look, this is one of the tamer, better looks at Izuku and Katsuki’s relationship. He’s willing to put his pride aside and give Izuku some advice. But remember what I said earlier in #4?
It’s not just to make sure Izuku gets better, but so Katsuki can feel like it’s a complete win when he beats his ass.
And if we take the line “It pisses me off” into account, we can look at that flaw from the same angle. Remember, Izuku has All Might’s power, the #1 Hero’s power. To Katsuki, that means he shouldn’t have the luxury of making mistakes. But Izuku does. He makes mistakes, and Katsuki sees them and he doesn’t get to exploit them. He still wins, but not because of those mistakes. And part of that pisses Katsuki off. Izuku shouldn’t get to slack. So, Katsuki gives him some advice. Advice that will no doubt help Izuku in the long run, for his (and Katuki’s) sakes. It’s a good outcome from a not very good reason...
13) Have You Made That Borrowed Power Your Own? (Manga Screenshot)
Yeah, no.
I don’t care if Izuku is used to this treatment, it still isn’t reinforcing an overall positive tone.
I don’t care if Katsuki acknowledges at some level that Izuku’s power is becoming his own, he still has the gall to say it was no wonder he passed BECAUSE of his power. Which may be true, but it’s not like Izuku was relying on it 100%, and lowkey comes off as Quirkist.
All it tells me is that Katsuki is starting to acknowledge Izuku, in the “gadfly I can’t get off my back” sort of way. Is this the “best development” y’all are rooting for? Basic acknowledgement of another human being?
14) Outta My Way Punk! (Manga Screenshot)
Katsuki reflexively tells Izuku to get out of his way.
Izuku is used to it, again, that does not excuse it.
Once again, Katsuki reverts back to his usual behavior instead of showing a more subtle approach to show the audience that maybe he’s changing beyond what a chorus of other characters saying “he’s changed!” has to offer.
...even if it’s not abusive, you can’t really say that’s a “good” relationship, either.
15) Blackwhip Training (Manga Screenshot)
Katsuki willing to train with Izuku to help him master his Quirk(s) is nice.
Still blatantly in his element with lots of needless yelling and dominance assertion, but still nice.
And keep in mind, right after it’s clear they aren’t getting anywhere and Izuku tries to rationalize it, Katsuki decides to dip seeing as it’s not worth his time anymore. And even before that, at least in my translation, Katsuki seems to be more interested in beating out Blackwhip instead of having Izuku get a handle on.
Again, maybe not abusive, but not exactly supportive, either.
16) ??? (Anime Screenshot)
I personally have no idea what they were going for with this screenshot, but if I had to guess, that’s after Katsuki gives Izuku an escape window whilst he faces off against All Might alone during their Final Exams.
While I understand that this is early on in their dynamic’s development, the fact still stands that Katsuki still wants to fight for fighting’s sake. He may have been willing to at least give Izuku a chance, but he still sees Izuku’s retreat as cowardly, even though it’s a perfectly valid way to pass the exam. He still just wants to fight.
There’s no mutuality in that sense.
17) Quote from Justin Briner (Miscellaneous)
I don’t have much of an opinion for Izuku’s English VA, but for what it’s worth, I think overall he’s a really cool dude. The same, however, cannot be said for his quote.
I can buy into Izuku wanting to get stronger because of Katsuki, since that is a major plot point. I can’t do the same for Katsuki seeing the good in people because we don’t ever see it, really? In fact, it’s more like people latch on to Katsuki and he just tolerates them until they’ve completely wormed their way into his life. There’s no scene where Katsuki considers someone a good person because of something Izuku did, or anything even vaguely along those lines, at least to my knowledge.
As for their relationship, there have been more downs than ups, and it isn’t relatable to me in the slightest. Maybe that’s just ‘cause I don’t get the overall appeal, but their friendship never really strikes me as a… well, friendship. You could argue that’s the point and that’s what makes them different and interesting, but I would much rather we see more concrete proof of their relationship being at more understandable highs and lows while actually demonstrating it was mutual.
But again. That’s just me.
18) Joint Training Pep Talk (Manga Screenshot)
I’m basically repeating myself at this point. Katsuki might be keeping tabs on Izuku, but again, it’s not entirely for Izuku’s benefit. He just wants to make sure his new “rival” (successor to the #1 Hero, I might add) isn’t dragging his feet through the mud and actually getting s*** done so their eventual third clash will actually be worth his time.
...this relationship is so one-sided in two entirely different ways, I swear.
19) Speaking With Kacchan So Naturally (Manga Screenshot)
Why are we congratulating Katsuki for adding one more person to his already (surprisingly) sizable tolerance pile?
Why are we congratulating Izuku for bridging a gap other people managed to cross with little to no effort even though he didn’t do anything wrong?
Izuku is essentially saying “Good job on me for finally getting the same treatment as everyone else from that one person after over ten years.” Good on him, but uh… that’s not exactly a landmark worth framing the way the fandom does...
The relationship might not be outright abusive, but HOO BOY the bar has never been set lower...
20) “You’ve got a good friend in him” (Manga Screenshot)
And finally, the pièce de résistance. Which is really more narrative mouthpiece-ing.
Even before that, Katsuki yet again can’t take a compliment from Izuku for whatever reason. Yet again, Izuku just shrugs off all of Katsuki’s discouragement, intentional or otherwise. And I love me some Dadmight as much as the next guy, but really, does he have a good grasp on relationships? His only friends in his life were David and Naomasa, and he’s been shown time and time again to not be the infallible man many think he is due to being the Symbol of Peace? But suddenly he goes “Bakudeku rights” and y’all jump on that with no room for argument?
Katsuki has yet to prove what All Might has been saying. Again, telling rather than showing, therefore removing the meaning from the entire thing. Unless Katsuki proves otherwise, I call bulls***.
-------------------------------------------------------
So, my final verdict? Bakudeku is fine. It’s just not as great as the rest of you are making it out to be. I’m not gonna dictate whatever you ship or what you enjoy, that’s not my place, but at least keep these perspectives in mind. You don’t have to believe them, but just… stay aware, y’know?
Alrighty, I’ve wasted enough of your time. If you’ve read it until the very end, then… thanks. Carry on.

BakuDeku: Bakugou’s Feelings/Mentality towards Izuku Part I
2 Series. 70 Works.
Once Again from Better Days by limesicle ( T | 45,596+ | 52/? )
Katsuki wakes to find himself reset. It’s a time when quirks are just starting, and he only remembers a bit about happened the first time. He remembers enough to know Deku is someone he hurt a lot. He remembers enough to know he had to watch Deku fall. He remembers enough to try to make things better this time.
Falling by soulstring ( E | 131,312+ | 21/? )
He knows that Katsuki is cruel, and for the sake of looking down on him he could do something like this. But even so, if it was just to mess with him, Katsuki of all people should know better than to expect years of punches and cruel taunts will make him say yes.
Series Part 1 of You grew up when I wasn’t looking
[Underage]
I feel you by soulstring ( M | 53,123 | 11/11 )
“I don’t always take questionable substances from strangers but when I do I end up getting a second hand boner from my childhood friend’s feelings” - Midoriya Izuku, most likely.
Summary by Kitakyuu
Like the Moon by osakakitty ( E | 14,781 | 2/2 )
Katsuki Bakugo is having constant, erotic dreams about Izuku Midoriya. He isn’t sure why, but they won’t go away. In order to make them stop, he needs to figure out what Izuku Midoriya means to him.
Canon-verse story in which Bakugo is confused about his feelings for Midoriya, and doesn’t know what he wants. Besides a good night’s sleep.
Update: added an epilogue
He Probably Needs a Pounding by KowaiYumeDesuka ( T | 3,880 | 2/2 )
After Deku’s admission into Yuuei and the outcome of the Trial of Battle, Bakugou can no longer look down on Deku as the absolutely inferior idiot he’d always thought of him as. With that out of the way, he’s starting to see something else in his childhood sort-of friend but mostly object of ridicule. However, he’s not sure how to feel about that something else, or about Deku in general anymore.
Hatred by OwlWanderer ( E | 1,008 | 1/1 )
I hate you. God, I fucking hate you so fucking much.
Post-it Notes Lead to the Heart by Erina ( T | 20,682 | 4/4 )
Bakugou Katsuki has apologized once. But he isn’t sure he can do it again.
Maybe, Just Maybe by NorthernProjection ( G | 11,049 | 2/2 )
Bakugou might have a crush on Deku. Emphasis on “might”.
[Series] Katsuki’s Guide to a Debatably Successful Relationship by SerialCereal ( T | 11,012 | 2 Works | Abandoned )
Katsuki, being about as romantic as a piece of cheese, turns to Wikihow to get advice on his crush.
Katsuki still is being tied for "least romantic" with that piece of cheese. Wikihow helped him before, it'll help him again. [Continuation of "How to Get Your Crush to Notice You - A Guide by Bakugou Katsuki", can be read separately recommended it's not though.]
The Way He Says My Name by claimedbydaryl ( M | 4,201 | 1/1 )
He hated how Izuku said his nickname, open and unafraid, like he knew him, like their childhood friendship still mattered, like he never hurt him—
But what he hated most of all was that he couldn’t say his name, that he couldn’t do more than snarl Deku, that he couldn’t tell Izuku he was sorry.
Series Part 1 of To Count Them All
[Underage]
The Art of Saying You’re Sorry by low_commotion ( G | 8,190 | 1/1 )
In which Bakugou Katsuki is not an apologetic person, but he thinks he should probably try for the sake of, like, teamwork and peer-pressure. Midoriya kind of wishes he’d figure out how to do it properly, or at least be less weird about it.
Series Part 1 of Mountains and Molehills
truth, spilling from his mouth by vannral ( M | 5,969 | 3/3 )
It’s not really a sudden realization, not really, but Katsuki still thinks it’s bullshit.
In which Katsuki gets progressively more grumpy about his feelings for Deku, and then the matters get a whole lot worse when he’s hit with a Truth Serum Quirk. Explosions and feelings happen.
After-School Session ( E | 1,831 | 1/1 )
The typical saying of “love knows no bounds.”
Explosive Pigtail Pulling by Rachello344 ( T | 2,204 | 1/1 )
Bakugou is hit by a villain’s quirk, one with the power to regress its victims to literal childhood: physically, mentally, emotionally. Luckily (or unluckily) for Bakugou, the person to find his four year old self is Izuku, who watches over him until he returns to normal.
The Art of Indifference by qye ( Not Rated | 18,029+ | 22/? )
Bakugou is used to being the center of attention- be it anger, confussion, or fear (mostly fear) everyone always gives him a reaction.
Until all the sudden, Deku doesn’t.
What a fucking asshole.
Yeah it’s a fucked up kind of relationship ( M | 10,018 | 4/4 )
Bakugou Katsuki had a plan for getting with Deku. It hadn’t worked. He loved Deku, he really did. It was just a pain in the ass to get across. Why did he have to change? Why couldn’t he have just stayed weak forever?
Set after graduation, Bakugou Katsuki muses on the strange relationship he shares and his fears for the future. Sex happens but not in great detail. This is mostly a fic on Katsuki’s thoughts on things. Warning for Bakugou’s foul mouth and issues communicating like a normal person.
That’s not how I planned it by ReadHardWriteHard ( T | 44,993 | 14/14 )
Bakugou Katsuki is bullying Midoriya Izuku to cover up his own feelings. His excuse, Midoriya being quirkless. And since he can’t suddenly get a quirk this excuse will never cease to exist, right?
Fallout by limesicle ( T | 2,505 | 1/1 )
Katsuki does everything the hard way. Falling in love isn’t an exception.
It doesn’t take him long to realize he’s falling, but it takes him ten years to admit it to himself. It takes another ten before he says it out loud.
I’ll Be Your Hero by bakudeku ( T | 2,536+ | 4/? )
Katsuki wants to protect Izuku. He wants to make sure Izuku never has to cry again. Maybe this was his chance to fix everything, to make sure he didn’t make the same mistakes as before. If this really isnt a dream, if Katsuki really is in the past, then he’d do anything his little body could to keep Izuku safe.
This time, he’ll stay by Izuku’s side.
Just a Game? by MalaMoon ( T | 2,564 | 1/1 )
A truth or dare kiss ends up revealing more truths than Bakugou and Midoriya ever wanted, and leaves the door open for reconciliation and quite possibly a relationship neither of them anticipated.
[On Hold] synthesis by DriftingGlass ( M | 31,325+ | 6/? )
They didn’t know how it happened, or when a concept so fickle and ridiculous blossomed in the garden of doubts, anger, and pain in which they so frequently visited.
Between scarred hands and bloodied knuckles, unspoken thoughts stirred like petals in springtime rain.
Bakugo was not prepared for the undeniable change spurring between them.
Unfortunately, neither was Midoriya.
[Underage]
new eyes by WabiSabi ( T | 21,155+ | 9/? )
Katsuki wakes up 22 years in the past.
With no other choice, he moves on.
Soft Spots by Saysi  ( E | 56,809+ | 28/? )
Midoriya and Bakugou don't have the best of relationships - except when they find themselves alone.
Bakugou quickly finds himself developing a soft spot for the nerd.
Happy birthday Midoriya!
good morning (asshole) by writedeku ( G | 2,527 | 1/1 )
“I want to,” Bakugou starts. His voice is hoarse. “Take my relationship with Deku to the next level.”
Kirishima raises a finger, opens his mouth, puts his finger down and snaps his mouth shut. He takes a deep breath, puts his hands on his hips, and turns in a circle. “I’m sorry, what relationship?”
(Bakugou wants to become friends with Midoriya. He doesn’t know how though, because he’s got the emotional stability of a rabbit on Xanax.)
[Series] Hope and Victory by Celestialgunfireopera  ( G&T&M&E | 77,439+ | 6 Works | WIP )
Quirkless was not useless, or so Katsuki seemed to believe.
There was this magnetic pull that kept Izuku ensnared, that tugged him back if he ever strayed too far from Katsuki, like their lives were entwined on a level beyond what Izuku could logically explain.
Katsuki sees, really sees Izuku’s scars for the first time.
Don’t poke the bear in his den or wake Lord Explosion Murder on his day off
All deep relationships start small.
He had been happy. That was what stood out the most, looking back. He had been utterly content, blissfully unaware of the horror creeping closer through the shadows.
Chapter 2, Chapter 4, and Chapter 8 of Petals In Your Hair by Yuechum ( T | 3,031 | 3 out of 13 )
Bellflower : Constancy, Gratitude, Unwavering Love
Daffodil : Forgiveness, Rebirth, You’re the Only One
Hibiscus : Delicate Beauty
opia by Ramabear (RyMagnatar), timeto-explode (NoWayApril) ( T | 2,169 | 1/1 )
In an attempt to breach the wall put up between Bakugou and Midoriya, All Might and Aizawa try something a little unorthodox. The two teens are set down in chairs across from each other with the instruction to stay there and look into each other’s eyes.
The strange vulnerability that follows spurs a confession that Bakugou isn’t prepared for in the least.
Dream Come True by shuppet44 ( E | 7,995 | 1/1 )
It’s bad enough that Bakugou has to have these feelings about Izuku. It’s worse that he’s stuck sharing a tent and, thanks to some sick twist of fate, a sleeping bag with him. But he’s not sure if the moans Izuku is making in his sleep are improving or worsening his situation. One thing’s for sure, he wants to hear more.
“Fuck” by LNoGame44 ( Not Rated | 5,411 | 1/1 )
Bakugou didnt know when it started. Maybe it had being going on for a while and he hadn’t noticed it. But every time it happened, it sent a shock up his spine and boiled his blood. No one else reacted to it. They all continued as if their train of thought hadnt just been violently derailed and Bakugou was getting fucking sick of it.
Stay away from him, he’s mine! by AShippingAddict ( E | 12,143+ | 4/10 )
Bakugou Katsuki knew Valentine’s Day was just a day where everyone went crazy trying to make love happen. He didn’t care for it. He especially didn’t care that everyone seemed to want Deku. He didn’t care. It didn’t matter that people were starting to invade Deku’s space. Or that people kept touching him. He did NOT care, not one bit.
Or people flirt with Midoriya Izuku and Bakugou nearly kills someone because he’s jealous.
Where did you go to end up right back here? by sensiblysilly ( M | 14,269 | 3/3 )
Katsuki wakes up in what must be another reality, and tries to understand how his life turned out the way it did. He may learn a thing or two about himself, and the people he (perhaps unwillingly, and yet inalterably) cares about along the way, giving him the will to finally make amends for his past actions.
Because sometimes a little push of fate is all it takes.
Series Part 1 of Where did you go to end up right back here?
[Abuse | Bullying]
Lost and Found by xo_princess ( Not Rated | 3,249 | 1/1 )
Somehow, Katsuki goes from pushing Izuku down stairs to buying him chocolate milk. Somehow, they fall in love. And then somehow, Izuku forgets that.
-
Izuku gets hit with a memory loss quirk, but that’s only a small part of the story.
As One by semiautomatichearts ( G | 2,508 | 1/1 )
Katsuki knows Izuku as he knows himself, as he knows the worn pages of a treasured book, the creases within his own hand.
He sees when something is wrong, and reaches across abyssal expanses, past the maw of his own pride, and he heals.
A Blasted Confession by Halcyonranhuer ( T | 2,116 | 1/1 )
Bakugou’s trying to make out his feelings about Midoriya, which for him is confusing as hell. (Chinese translations avaliable now)
Take Me Back To The Night We Met by elizabeth_16  ( T | 19,341 | 1/1 )

When the moment came, he realized all the things he had done.
Then he was death.
He didn't know what being dead was like, but it sure as hell wasn't you waking up in your three-year-old self with your mother waking you up because it's your first day of kindergaten.

Bitter and Sweet by 13th ( T | 32,551 | 9/9 )
To Katsuki, memories are the bane of his existence, they’re picky and unpredictable.
To Izuku, memories are fragile glass, easy to shatter and requires a lot of attention.
Different recollection of the past, but similar enough to have the same result. Hopefully, the day they acknowledge these revelations can finally mend those bothering questions that none of the other answered.
(In other words. Just goddamn, talk it out.)
Inconvenience is another word for feelings by soulstring ( G | 1,498 | 1/1 )
A sound that he’s heard thousands of times before – a lifetime, Katsuki’s brain unhelpfully supplies – echoes in the classroom. Laughter; pure, unadulterated, carefree. Always triggered by others, never by Katsuki, and somehow he doesn’t understand why he feels something warm and disgustingly pleasant twisting his insides because for once, he’s the one unleashing it.

So I guess you could call this a side B to @sweatbombhands post about Bakugo.
In other words, this is an analysis on what Izuku went through in elementary and middle school and how it’s shaped who he is. Because of the nature of these things here’s your warnings that this post will go into suicide baiting, bullying, violence, anxiety, and depression.
Additionally, this will contain mention Bakugo’s role in this. I repeat I will be mentioning the things Bakugo has done. This is a Bakugo critical post.
If any of this bothers you on any level please please do not read this. The last thing I want is to make anyone upset or uncomfortable or even trigger a panic attack. Please, be safe rather than sorry and don’t read it if the aforementioned triggers apply to you.
I was hesitant to even post this but it’s important to my portrayal and Soda really helped me solidify some of my views on this and I just want to get this all off of my chest.
Ok I guess a good place to start would be how I envision Izuku’s middle school experience (which I talked about a little bit here) (and here)
Canon is pretty clear that Izuku doesn’t have a great childhood, from the age of four until entering UA he is scorned, criticized, and out right bullied for being quirkless. And for being quirkless and wanting to be a hero.
We really only get a small glimpse of this, before Horikoshi moves right into the main story line but how he was treated actually plays a huge role in Izuku’s behavior.
From what we see in the first episode and in flashbacks moving forward, it was not at all an uncommon occurrence for Bakugo, and the other students, to out get outright physically violent with Izuku. To the point where his first reaction to anyone addressing him directly is to flinch away and pure terror.
And I think that ties into what Horikoshi talks about in this blurb. Izuku was largely ignored. If he talked to other people they would pretend that they didn’t hear anything. Not only the other students, but the teachers as well. If he raised his hand he wouldn’t be called on. If he asked to join a game he would be told they already had too many people, even if there was an odd number of people playing. This started when he was 4.
By the time Izuku is in his final year of middle school he has pretty much resigned himself to being treated like he doesn’t exist. In fact, he prefers it, because the only acknowledgement of his existence comes with pain. Either physical or emotional. His classmates either laughing at his dreams or calling him useless or telling him the world would be better off without him or actually just physically beating him up when the opportunity presented itself.
It should be noted that while episode 1 is the first time Bakugo has told Izuku to kill himself it’s not the first time he’s been goaded into suicide and he’s come to class with a vase of flowers sitting on his desk more than once.
Needless to say, this has affected Izuku in a very real way. He still gets nervous when people talk to him, or when he’s the center of attention. Because for most of his life that was always followed by something bad. He has trouble talking to people and making physical contact because he’s so unused to it. He hasn’t had friends since he was 4 and there’s an adjustment period.
Additionally, a lot of Izuku’s inner dialogue is just internalized hatred from those around him. Even though he’s no longer being actively bullied there’s always those voice echoing back that he’s useless, worthless, no one wants him there. Snarling not to get arrogant over every piece of good luck. This may come across as  simply being humble but make no mistake on several levels Izuku really truly hates himself.
(and I could go into how his lack of self worth ties into why he wants to help other people so badly but this is getting so long anyway so i’ll save it for another post)
Making the situation worse, Izuku does not talk about this stuff. Ever. He doesn’t tell his mom growing up because he doesn’t want to burden her (she likely has some idea, though) and continues that sentiment to his newfound friends. As well as he just doesn’t want to think about it. And talking about it requires thinking about it.
Izuku is repressing a lot of his trauma and is pretending it never happen and it is adversely affecting his mental health. It causes him to have anxiety attacks over seemingly small things, assumes that no one is being genuine about liking him (taking it as pity or kindness), etc. To the point where it even affects his physical health because one of the reasons he pushes himself so hard is because of his lack of self worth. His sleeping habits are a result of insomnia which are a result of his anxiety.
I say all this because I want to absolutely emphasize that this is not a good or healthy way to go about things and just because Izuku is doing this does not mean I support it. And a large focus of his character arc on this blog is Izuku gaining more confidence through the support of others but also through facing his demons head on and developing some healthy coping mechanisms.
But I digress, this repression is huge part of why he can regard Bakugo so casually and still think of him as a friend. He’s focusing on the parts of him that he admires rather than focusing on the things he’s done to him. He mentions it a couple of times but never directly confronts him about on the past; instead each time he does conflict with Bakugo he’s directly talking about the future. “I’m going to UA” “I want to beat Kacchan” “Deku doesn’t mean useless anymore”
In the same vein he hasn’t told anyone else about the true extent of what he faced in middle school or how large of a role Bakugo played in it. He simply says that Bakugo calls him Deku to make fun of him and then later, when Uraraka directly asks, he admits Bakugo ‘bullied him’ but in a way that is definitely very vague.
So i’ve discussed this with Soda and honestly it was originally his idea but I think if Bakugo does actually own up and apologize at some point, Izuku’s reaction would be “I don’t want to talk about it” and if he continued to push it Izuku would be very very angry because it would bring all those repressed feelings forth at once.
Note, i’m not saying that Izuku hates Bakugo or would never forgive him. But he wouldn’t right away. Especially since he hasn’t taken the time to deal with his own emotions yet. For Izuku, Bakugo apologizing it’s like he’s 14 and fishing his notebook out of the koi pool again. Everything is very fresh and raw.
That being said, he would definitely acknowledge that Bakugo is trying to make amends and he would be supportive once he’d calm down a bit. And then they could begin the long process of actually moving on rather than just stepping around it.
And uh I believe this is all I really wanted to say on the subject except if someone else does manage to get him to open up about the bullying he faced Izuku would most definitely have a break down because he’s never talked about it out loud before and uh there’s a lot of shit he’s been compartmentalizing.

"It's nice considering how I could just leave" Iuzku replied politely. "Or kill you for ruining my class trip, it'd be self defense" Really, he was sure Aizawa was more worried about their saftey than Izuku's. "But that'd get the big manbaby in some trouble, wouldn't it?"

Something about that made him pissed off but if he acted on it, that would be a mistake on his end. Instead, Izuku leaned into his cheek-more so letting Tadao support his head

“Yeah, it’s almost like when I’m sleeping-I can’t really tell you not to do something” Izuku glared at him, grabbing onto Tadao’s wrist to maintain some kind of distance.

Masami blinked, holding his hand in both of hers. "Izu, you know where my house is" She was worried since no one's seen him in a long time. "...I missed you" She wanted him to come with her so he was safe

Mic was fine with that, he kind of had a shit ton on his mind anyway so he was busy sorting that out. Sure, he'd stab himself on ocassion but if healed over anyway. It still hurt though, so he couldn't be too reckless when it came time for him to leave and then Aizawa would get him and things would be fine-Aziawa would come get him and things would be fine
