Why Adrien is Better off Gay/Bi/Pan || Miraculous, Why?

(Before I begin, note that this is my opinion over the topic and am no way am bashing anyone’s love for the ship and/or character. I respect who and what you like, therefore expect the same courtesy. However, if this is something you cannot handle, please click the back button as this will be a heavily discussed topic. No flames allowed. Other than that, enjoy.)

I’m afraid I have to address the elephant in the room. Of how the hetero pairings for Adrien are about as real as Twilight. Sometimes it makes me wonder if Thomas Astruc looked at the ships in the end of Naruto and though… makes sense? That’s a long shot convo for another day.

I’m going to take the time in this chat to discuss why each female who has an interest in Adrien has no chance of having a healthy relationship with him and to why male characters have better chances! Let’s look at the girls one by once.

Lila: Let’s start with the obvious. Lila is clearly not interested in Adrien for his personality, but merely for the good looks and fame. She really hasn’t demonstrated any behavior that she cares for him genuinely and hangs off of him constantly as a possession. It’s clear Lila sets her eyes on Adrien because he’s famous, popular and wants him as a trophy husband. Lila is pretty toxic on her own to go so far as to sneak in and stalk Adrien. What’s worse is that she now has Gabriel’s permission to do so. If he were to be paired with Lila, it’ll break him and be nothing but hell.

Chloe: While it shows itself that Adrien has only platonic feelings for Chloe, she still hopes for something more. Adrien cares deeply for Chloe because he was her first friend, though it’s obvious Chloe wants more. Though Chloe has a mean streak and a possessive behavior where she tends to be cruel to people aside from Adrien and expects to get away with it every time. With the behavior she gets from being spoiled and trying to live up to her mother, would it be farfetched to say a future marriage between these two would be like Audrey/Andre? I don’t think so. Plus, she forgets his birthday. What kind of friend does that?

Kagami: Not going to lie, out of all the pairs, Kagami does have the most potential to be paired with Adrien. She meets him through fencing, they get time to know each other and they slowly start to grow as friend. However, that just about ends when it comes to such as Kagami is another girl who takes it a step too far. Like Chloe, Kagami follows too much in her mother’s footsteps and also is overly aggressive and competitive. She looks to quickly claim Adrien because they’re ‘perfect’, which is a word Adrien hates a lot under his façade. She’s gets possessive around other girls near Adrien and moves too quickly, also forcing Adrien to make his decisions as if he doesn’t have the time to decide.

And last…

Marinette: Marinette… in a way is a small combination of the girls combine. No doubt she’s sweet, shy and tries help at times when matters. BUT she’s also obsessive, possessive, and hypocritical. Things a potential yandere usually becomes. She invades Adrien’s privacy, stalks him, and steals from him more so than Lila. She doesn’t mind crossing boundaries as far as doing illegal acts such as breaking into his locker, copying his schedule? How even. She also tried to confess to Adrien on the day his mother disappeared/died which is a time for MOURNING and COMFORT! She also has no problems calling other people out on this behavior, yet she does the same things. Hypocrisy is never a good color to wear.

Not to mention she only is ‘in love’ with one side of him. As Ladybug, which is important, she tends to put him down as Chat Noir, doesn’t give him proper respect in public and doesn’t include him with important matters, especially with Master Fu. She treats him as his sidekick rather than his partner and leaves him in the dark. She thinks of herself as Batman and him Robin. If you read the comics or watch some of DC shows, you know how well THAT goes. Marinette cannot love Adrien without loving and respecting him as Adrien AND Chat.

Granted, she’s not the only girl who treats Chat badly, but she is supposed to be his ‘partner’ so… yeah.

For these girls it wouldn’t make sense. Not to mention at least once, the girls tend to make Adrien uncomfortable holding him on his arm and such. They don’t act like they care of Adrien’s well being at all (except for Kagami sometimes), but make him to be some prized to be won. Forced shipping is toxic shipping.

I can gladly blame the poor writing on the show, but pretty much it did it’s damage enough for me to say I cannot or will not romantically ship these girls with Adrien. If there were potential girls, girls like Rose, Juleka heck even Alix, but it’s safe to say that’s out of the question.

You know who DOES have the more potential, though? The boys.

Yes. As we take a chance to look at the friends he bonds with, its easy to say Adrien is more comfortable around the guys. The party before it was crashed, the video game tournament, these are just a few that aren’t shown often but do show more of Adrien’s comfort level. What guys you ask?

A perfect example for a ‘friends to lover’ romance would be Nino for example. He starts off subtly and gets to know Adrien from the start, not showing any animosity after the misunderstanding with Adrien and his childhood friend, Marinette. Nino also goes through lengths to help Adrien as far as to stand up to Gabriel to give Adrien a friggin’ birthday party! And got akumatized for it. Adrien also shows to go through the same lengths to help Nino hook up with Marinette so far as to set him up alone in the zoo. Nino is sweet, caring and he works well with Chat.

Another potential love interest (my personal OTP), Luka. From the get-go of how they met from a trip accident, Luka greets Adrien with kindness and welcomes him to the group in Captain Hardrock. In ‘Desperada’, that same friendliness still holds as Luka trust Adrien with his guitar, his most prize possession. Luka also does his best to keep Adrien safe and hidden away as Adrien returns the favor to save Luka from getting hit. Don’t push me about the locker scene because there are MULTITUDINOUS ways of how I can make so many ‘In the closet’ references. Also, that wink Chat gave, and the look Luka had? Need I say more? Good. And let’s not forget the icing on the cake and keep in mind to remember:

Adrien chose Luka to wield the Snake miraculous. ADRIEN, not ladybug, chose LUKA. Not to mention the fact, as Viperion, he was eager to work with Chat the moment they met and has nothing but good working with him as a teammate. That’s a bonus.

Many fans of the show try to depict them as rivals for Marinette, but only Luka shows that interest in which Marinette doesn’t really accept because of her obsession with Adrien. To make Adrien ‘jealous’ is really out of character, but another topic I’ll cover.

Truthfully, it would be an interesting twist of all the girls pushed up against Adrien, he would turn around and go for the cute guitarist or starts talking about how cute the guy is! Tell me that Degrassi twist wouldn’t add some good drama.

Overall, the show demonstrates so far that most of the girls for Adrien doesn’t really possess healthy qualities for Adrien to have a good future. The boys give him a more comfortable understanding a gentle nature for a kid like Adrien. You could pair him up with Ivan or Max and Adrien would STILL have more chemistry than them. Note that he’s sheltered, and we have no clue off what other mannerism he was raised on or how truly strict Gabriel and Nathalie are. Hell, we don’t even know how it was like when Emilie was even around.

But for any relationship to work, friendship before romance. Slow but steady at the pace both parties can go. People including Adrien, need that.

Rewatching Shameless and i just watched 6x1 jail scene. Can I request a meta if its not too much trouble? I feel like reading a really good meta about that scene and you're one of the best we've got so.....

It’s never any trouble at all! That’s so sweet to say—thank you so much! <3 Kind of coming to terms with the idea that anyone cares about my opinion over here. You guys are too much!

This scene is actually extremely important to me because it and the response to it were what made me start writing Shameless fanfiction, specifically when I saw that my views regarding Ian’s behavior and how Mickey received it were so vastly different from what I initially read. (Insert shameless plug for “That Milkovich Reputation” here.) Now, I know you’ve told me not to do this before, but based on the controversial position in which this scene resides, I feel the need to present a couple of disclaimers for our audience at large.

I first fell in love with Shameless last March, a couple weeks before quarantine began. I didn’t know what it was prior to that and therefore was not present when Noel left the show, so I didn’t experience the disappointment of a beloved character leaving in a potentially permanent way and didn’t engage in the fandom or see how deeply upset people were by that until after I finished the series. I also don’t subscribe to the theory that there was something going on behind the scenes or any animosity between Noel and the creators, as I have not seen any relevant evidence from reliable sources to support that what happened was anything other than decisions made in pursuit of career goals on both sides. As such, my analysis of this scene has only ever taken the content and context of the story and characters into account. I have no interest in speculating on the motives of people I do not know in writing it or portraying it this way, and even if I did, this scene made perfect sense to me as it was written and performed.

I understand and appreciate that this is not a popular position to take and urge everyone to pass this post by if my position on that matter is offensive or upsetting to you. I do not mean to tell anyone what to think or believe, only to explain how I view this scene and the context in which I do so.

That said, let’s begin.

When Last Seen: Mickey

As in all things, context is important. Prior to the prison scene, the last time we saw Mickey was when Ian broke up with him and Sammi interrupted their heartfelt moment, which basically sums up her character in a nutshell. That was a rough couple of days for Mickey. He saw how devastated Ian was to hear his family talk about him as though he were just like Monica; was distressed in his own right to return for him and discover that he’d left the base with Monica; buried his frustration and sadness by sleeping around with other people, which seemed to exacerbate those emotions because those people weren’t Ian, nor had he and Ian broken up when he did it; and came running when Ian called him, only for Ian to end their relationship.

Mickey is a very sharp man—we know this. He can read people like books and manipulate or intimidate them accordingly. He knew Ian had feelings for him in s1 when he showed up on his doorstep seeking comfort rather than going to any number of other people he trusted. He was well aware that Ian loved him in s3, and that made what he felt he had no choice in doing that much more painful. He heard what Ian said and knew what he was doing in 5x12. Of that, I have never had any doubt. It wasn’t like Ian tried to hide that he didn’t want to break up but thought that that was what would be best. In fact, the way he initially framed it always made me think that one of his highest priorities was not dragging Mickey down with him, especially in the aftermath of being called “destructive” and similar to someone who “put them through hell.” That’s why Mickey’s response wasn’t to call him an asshole or get angry or beg. It was to reassure Ian that he was there for the long haul, that he loved him and wanted to take care of him no matter what that meant—and that they could make that work. All the sentiments Ian had tried to communicate before he got married, Mickey was reciprocating in his own way. Had they not needed to temporarily write Mickey out of the story and Sammi hadn’t shown up right that second, I believe that he wouldn’t have given up so easily. We do have confirmation of that being the case in the prison scene, but we’ll get to that shortly.

When Last Seen: Ian

Ian isn’t a selfish character. We know this, too. However, Ian needed to be selfish by the end of s5. What he had to come to terms with wasn’t something that anyone could fully help him with, much as Mickey desperately wanted to. To Ian, the enemy was within. It was inside him, in his brain, telling him what to do even if that destroyed himself and everything he loved. It’s terrifying. I’m not bipolar, nor do I suffer from any other diagnosed mental illnesses, but I admire and respect everyone who wakes up every morning and tackles these things. They’re heroes every single day. But by the end of s5, Ian doesn’t feel much like a hero. Instead, he feels like the villain, and he’s lost touch with who he even is anymore.

That’s not a healthy mindset to have in a relationship. Relationships require a level of give and take, and that used to be something that Ian and Mickey already struggled with. Ian gave more in s1-3 because he was able to, while Mickey had a limit on what he could openly give because of the environment in which he lived and the manner in which he was raised. In s4-5, those roles were reversed: Mickey was able to give so much more, but Ian was gradually falling apart. Neither of them are at fault for any of those situations. It is what it is, and they have a stronger relationship for it. Ian is a giver, though. He’s always been a giver. To be in a position where he doesn’t feel like he can give anything to Mickey because he doesn’t even know who he is was truly heartbreaking for him, and objectively, he needed to take a step back so that he could focus on himself. He knew it. Based on Mickey’s understanding of Ian’s reasons after watching him deny that he had a problem for so long, I think Mickey knew it too. This hurt both of them—Ian to say it and Mickey to hear it—but they’re not fools and they’re not naïve. In some ways, they know each other better than anyone.

Jimmy said that when you’re on a plane, they tell you to put on your mask before you help anyone else with theirs. Ian needed to put on his mask. His heart can’t keep beating if his lungs don’t work.

Starting Season 6: Mickey

Unsurprisingly, Mickey has settled into prison life just fine. We’ll focus on his interactions with Ian in a bit as that’s the meat of the scene, but there are major implications inherent in his discussion with Svetlana beforehand.

1. Mickey has accepted that this will be his reality for the foreseeable future. What else is he supposed to do? Besides, he’s known for a long time that the likelihood of ending up in prison was pretty high for him, as he alluded to in s2. He was a street thug. He stole from local stores, sold drugs, ran guns, operated a rub ‘n’ tug, created scam companies, and was a generally violent presence in the neighborhood for years. He was in juvie twice during the show, perhaps more beforehand. The unfortunate fact of the matter is that it would have been more surprising if Mickey didn’t get locked up at some point than that he did.

2. Ian has visited Mickey before. We won’t get too deeply into this yet, but he thanks Ian for “coming back.” The other times, he wasn’t even paid to do it. So, as far as Mickey can tell, nothing has changed. Ian is focusing on himself right now, but his love for Mickey hasn’t dulled at all. That’s an encouraging thought, and it certainly puts a smile on Mickey’s face.

3. Ever the opportunist and entrepreneur, Mickey really is doing just fine in prison. He runs a business, if you will, that appears to be quite lucrative already. This isn’t surprising either. Sadly, it’s a bad move. He’s already going to be in prison for somewhere around a decade, give or take a couple of years depending on his behavior. But his behavior isn’t good. He’s hurting people for money, and if he gets caught and brought up on more charges, not only will he serve the full fifteen years, but he could get more time added onto that.

4. Ian is aware of this arrangement. He has to be if he’s been going there with Svetlana, and they weren’t exactly hiding what they were talking about. Ian has been very consistent throughout the series: he’s not as concerned with the moral implications of Mickey’s behavior, just how it could potentially impact their ability to be together. He still cares about Mickey at the start of s6, and Mickey can see it on his face when he won’t say it out loud. (More on that shortly.) Once he’s in a better spot mentally, maybe they would have gotten back together had Mickey been on the outside. I’m of the opinion that they would have based on the context of the situation. It isn’t an option, however. This is Mickey’s reality, and he’s not doing everything he can to get out earlier. If anything, he’s tempting fate on not being released at all. (This, in hindsight, sounds rather similar to the issues they’re dealing with right now in s11.)

So, this is where Mickey stands at the start of the season: a prison hitman who is quite pleased that the man he loves has come to see him again, even if the latter is visibly not in a very healthy mental state.

Starting Season 6: Ian

Ian isn’t in most of 6x01. What we do see of him is typically sad or colored by his frustration, outside Carl’s welcome home party at the end of the episode. Even then, there’s an aura of discomfort that accompanies the family’s knowledge that things have changed. Carl came out of juvie a different person—they’re all different people after s5, and they’re not sure how to handle walking on eggshells around each other.

From the very start of the episode, we see that Ian is still struggling even though he’s had enough time to at least partially adjust to his medication, especially if he’s been on and off of it. It’s so sweet how Fiona gently wakes him up—it’s also a bit different. What happened to banging on the bunk bed and yelling for them to come down for breakfast? After behaving pretty normally with Debbie at the bathroom door, she’s almost handling him with kid gloves, and the punches keep coming when she reminds him that he (1) has to get up for work at a place he despises and (2) needs to remember to take his meds.

The kitchen scene is extremely telling of where Ian is at this point, and it partially shows why he’s somewhat standoffish by the time we reach the prison scene. Most of the family is gone or different. Fiona is repeatedly on him about meds and getting to work on time—Ian, Mister Responsible himself who was out of the house before anybody woke up to get to work on time as a kid. Lip is at college. Debbie is absorbed in her unconfirmed but likely pregnancy. Carl is in juvie, and Liam is playing with the switchblade he found under Carl’s pillow before they take him to pre-K. His entire support system is either gone or treating him like he’s broken. All he has is Fiona “going Fiona” on everyone. It’s clear that this is impacting him because he actually derails the conversation to say that they should go visit Carl the following weekend, which was the position Debbie used to be in when Fiona was in jail. Just like Lip shut her down, Debbie shuts Ian down, and he doesn’t say another word as he drinks his coffee—which he can’t finish because Fiona is once again on him about work, so he trudges out the door to another day of being a busboy with no dreams instead of a soldier who has a future.

Work isn’t much better. Svetlana wants him to go see Mickey when he’s determined to stay away. (We don’t have confirmation, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to assume that he wants to distance himself if Mickey is doing something that will potentially get him into even more trouble, especially given some of his reactions at the prison.) Sean is sending Fiona to nag him about not moving fast enough when the diner isn’t even busy. When Otis is chased down by the cops and slammed against the front window, Sean rather condescendingly tells him to, “take your rag and wipe the blood and snot off the window.” Ian—West Point-aspiring, ambitious, courageous, caring, intelligent, hardworking Ian has been reduced to wiping up someone’s snot by a boss who’s living in his house with a sister that’s treating him like he’s shattered glass and a family that is growing further and further apart these days.

That is the day Ian has had before he even arrives at the prison. Odds are that that is how most of his days have gone for quite some time, minus the blood and snot. …Maybe.

The Prison Scene

Now we come to it: what you actually asked about! It’s taken this long to get here because we can’t possibly interpret this scene effectively without incorporating all of what came before it. Mickey’s position is regrettable, but he knows that Ian still loves him and is at least handling his situation with all the grace and competence that we can expect from him. Ian is a bit of a mess who’s had a bad day and is now faced with the man he loves, who he is telling himself he can’t be with, sitting behind glass—where he’ll be for a good long while.

I’m going to divide this analysis into two sections. For a scene that many prefer to forget, to me, it’s a masterpiece of storytelling.

Physicality

The body language in this scene is remarkable—phenomenally blocked, phenomenally directed, and phenomenally portrayed.

When Mickey first appears, he’s visibly chomping at the bit to get to the visitation area. He’s peering out there while he’s still behind a locked door, and he only diverts his gaze to the guard because he’s waiting for him to unlock it. He’s cool about the whole thing—he’s very cool—but he’s obviously also here for one reason and one reason only. That reason is where his eyes go the moment he sits down at his stall and spots Ian’s coat where the latter is pacing behind Svetlana. Throughout their entire conversation, we see his eyes darting to Ian as he attempts to get the business out of the way so that he can indulge purely in the pleasure. It doesn’t matter to him that Ian is visibly tired and reluctant to be there or that he plays with Yevgeny instead of actively joining their conversation. It’s Ian, and all Mickey has to look at in here is a bunch of fellow thugs he hasn’t loved since he was too young to know what that meant. Damn right, he’s going to shamelessly watch him.

In Ian’s pacing, where we can’t see his face, I find it interesting that he keeps himself angled away from the glass. We see more of his back even though he’s moving side to side rather than away. He doesn’t want to see this. He doesn’t want to be there. In s7, he told Mickey how hard it was to see him behind glass—that wasn’t an excuse. He wasn’t falsely trying to make it sound like he was suffering at their separation just as much as Mickey was. We can see that that’s the case right here in 6x01. Ian has never had a problem sitting still through difficult moments, not even when a potential court martial that would further ruin his life was on the table. But this? He can’t sit down. He can’t face that.

The first time he turns directly towards Mickey’s location is so that Svetlana can hand Yevgeny off to him, and Mickey is visibly loving the view. His expression gets a bit softer, and he ducks his head a little so that he can catch a glimpse of Ian’s face. He follows Ian with his eyes even though Svetlana tries to get his attention. What a blast from the past, right? Ian there with his son, taking care of him while he and Svetlana figure out their business? And just like before, he offers Svetlana all of the attention and input that he deems her worth—next to nothing. Ian’s over there. Ian’s keeping the kid entertained, playing with him and rocking a bit in their seat and leaning over his little shoulder to make sure he’s doing okay—but forget that, Mickey’s eyes are examining him from red hair to beat-up shoes. He only glances back to Svetlana because he has to in order to get the information for their next paycheck. Even then, he’s still back and forth, up and down.

And Ian? He can’t keep pacing. He can’t stay turned away, but he won’t look. He occupies himself more than Yevgeny because now he’s low enough that he won’t just see an orange jumpsuit—he’ll see Mickey, and he’s had a bad enough day with his family making him feel more alone than ever without adding that pain on top of it. (This is the third time Mickey’s been locked up for something directly or indirectly related to Ian. I’m sure it’s not unreasonable to suspect that he also feels somewhat guilty about that, especially when it happened right after he broke it off.)

When Mickey asks if Ian is going to sit back there the whole time and not interact with him, Svetlana turns around and presumably says something to get his attention. Their eyes meet, and Mickey gives him a look that clearly says, “What the fuck, man?” This isn’t the behavior of a man who is heartbroken at their relationship ending or questioning Ian’s love for him. This is the behavior of a man who wants the love of his life to get his shit together enough to come say hi to him—or at least look at him—because he can’t pretend that he doesn’t want to see Mickey as much as Mickey wants to see him. It’s impossible to hide that when Ian has let Mickey see so much of his heart over the years.

Ian’s response is so fascinating because he does meet Mickey’s eyes, and he holds that connection for a moment. Then, reading what Mickey is trying to tell him, he actually turns further away again so that Mickey gets his shoulder. This sets the stage for the rest of Ian’s development from now through s9. He’s doing what Ian does: he’s compartmentalizing. He’s taking the emotions he can’t deal with right now, wrapping them in tissue paper, and neatly stacking them in a box that he’ll put up in the attic where he can pretend they don’t exist. But they do. They really do.

If they didn’t, he wouldn’t have spent their entire conversation trying so hard to focus on literally anything but Mickey, because as we saw in the Hall of Shame flashbacks and as has been obvious since their first fight-turned-fuck, once they look, the battle is lost.

Dialogue

I’m going to be real with you guys: I adore this scene. I’ve watched it more times than I can count even though I haven’t rewatched much of the season in its entirety. There was so much said with so few words, and while I was sad at the end, I was also hopeful. This was an impossible position to be put in on both sides, and I truly believe that this was the best resolution they could get at the time. And yes, it hurt. It was painful. But why was it painful?

Because they’re so visibly, obviously, irrevocably in love.

Mickey’s tone when he tells Svetlana to leave because he wants to talk to Ian isn’t as harsh as it’s been for the rest of their visit. There’s such a disconnect between his words and tone: roughly telling her to scram while actually sounding a bit younger at the idea of speaking directly with Ian. Svetlana could tell. It’s so clear, and her smirk is super knowing. In that moment, we’re seeing the woman who stood in the doorway of what was supposed to be her bedroom and watched him make eyes at this unconscious boy she didn’t really even remember. Not in the tears and realizing she was in big, big trouble if he left her, but in the understanding that his heart isn’t in the body on the other side of the glass—it’s sitting behind her. There are a lot of things I don’t like about Svetlana as a person (as a character, she’s amazing), but since they reached their agreement in s4, she’s never had a derogatory thing to say about the love those two share, and I respect that. It’s actually a bit cute how she takes her time and is almost teasing in giving him what he wants. A bit.

As I have this scene running on repeat so that I don’t miss anything in writing this, I paused to type and ended up on such a meaningful glance at Ian’s face. Svetlana just took Yevgeny from him, and he hasn’t gotten up yet. He’s staring straight at Mickey, and he looks hesitant. Scared, almost. Then he looks up at Svetlana, nods a bit, and reluctantly moves into her spot.

Is it overkill to take this one exchange at a time? Probably. Am I going to do it anyway? Hell to the yes.

1. “Thanks for coming back.”/”Yeah… Svetlana paid me.” – I know that people hate this line and think this is painful. I know that it objectively is painful. I still laugh every time. Not because Ian agreed to come if he was paid. (He’s got medication to afford and no insurance. I can’t begrudge him wanting to make a few extra bucks any way he can.) Not because of the words, but because of what accompanies them. Ian will not look at Mickey—he’s lost so many battles lately, and he can’t lose this one too. Not when he started this one himself. He’s hemming and hawing, not looking up from the countertop and then twisting around to see if Svetlana is still there or anyone else is listening. It’s so stupid, because literally no one cares, but it gives you this sensation that Ian sees himself as being under a microscope the whole time. That’s his life anymore, at home and at work and now here. And Mickey? He doesn’t look terribly broken up about Ian accepting payment in exchange for coming. He gets this expression that I interpreted as, “Seriously? You’re playing it like that?” Then it settles into disappointment that Ian won’t open up or look at him like he normally would—that the glass interferes with the magnetic pull between them. But don’t worry, children. Uncle Mickey has just the thing to fix that: himself.

2. “You look good.”/*awkward silence* – I mean…what do you say to that? I actually felt so bad for Ian there because what must he have looked like these last visits if Mickey is telling him that he looks good now? What kind of mess was he then when he’s still sort of a mess today? And he can’t even return the sentiment because how can he? Mickey is in prison. He’s in a jumpsuit looking at being here so long that he’ll probably have a few grey hairs starting to grow in when he gets out. I don’t know how to respond when people tell me I look good on an average day, so I can only imagine how that must have felt in his position. And still, he won’t do more than glance in Mickey’s direction. Well, if that didn’t work…

3. Mickey chuckles and says he got a new tattoo. Ian’s eyes immediately shoot upwards, and Mickey slouches a little so that he’s in their direct line of sight—to hold them there, because once they look, the battle is lost. And Ian does lose. For a while there, he can’t look away again. First, because Mickey is courting some pretty nasty illnesses with his improper use of needles. Seriously, Mickey, a beautiful gesture but holy crap. Second, Mickey has his name (or a very close approximation to it) tattooed forever right over his heart. Ian had asked if Mickey was going to marry him, and Mickey told him to fuck off, but everything he’s doing points in the opposite direction. He promised sickness and health; now he’s made a permanent mark on his body for everyone to see. Mickey, who wouldn’t be seen in public with him once upon a time, has plastered Ian’s name onto his body. Ian tries so hard not to let that impact him, but it’s over. He’s lost the battle already, and he falls further and further. He’s smiling when he tells Mickey it looks infected, he teases him about the misspelling (which I think says more about how much that tattoo must have hurt than any inability to spell on Mickey’s part—I’d have a typo too), and he laughs at Mickey’s irritation that he messed it up. And it’s this sweet little laugh, not cruel or hurtful or mean. The wonderful thing about humor is that it can be used to cope with difficult emotions. We’ve seen a lot of people on the show start laughing when they’re in a bad place. Ian has been trying so hard to accept his life as it is even during the shitty day he was having. He tried so hard not to let himself fall into the trap of letting his love for Mickey rule his actions in the scene so far. That’s a lot. That’s denying himself to the point where I’m sure it hurts. And so he laughs, because Mickey did this crazy, absurd thing for him and yeah, it came out wrong, but he did it. This was all Ian wanted once upon a time (minus the felony), and now he has it—but he can’t have it. So he laughs. He immediately moves to hide it, but he laughs. He smiles more and has to bend away to pretend that he’s not—and Mickey lights up like a goddamn Christmas tree. This is the moment that keeps me from seeing this scene or Ian’s actions as being cruel. They’re both hurting, and this is an awful position to be in. But Ian loves him so much, and Mickey was doing everything he could to make him show it. Not exactly how he saw that going, I’m sure, but he’ll take it.

4. “Been thinking about you.” – Knowing that he lost that one, Ian looks away again. While the end of this scene will hurt for both of them, especially Mickey, think about the pain he must be feeling in that moment simply because he’s not. He’s not hurting. For the first time that day, he feels good. This can’t last. Mickey isn’t coming home with him when time is up. This wonderful emotion that filled him up enough for him to laugh and smile after such a bad day will be gone the second he hangs up that phone. Then he’s going to go home and have Fiona breathing down his neck with nobody else for support. And Mickey will be here—behind glass. He can’t handle that, and he pulls that box out again and starts tearing off the tissue paper. He has to get rid of this feeling. He has to be the one to put it away before it kicks him to the curb. He’s stubborn, and Mickey can see him shutting down but also knows that he’s knocked enough bricks out of Ian’s walls to say something softer, something emotional and closer to the heart. Something he is willing to say where the other inmates can hear, which I don’t think is lost on Ian since he immediately looks up again. He doesn’t look away either, not even when Mickey asks if Ian thinks about him. He glances to the side and opens his mouth a bit, but nothing comes out. Mickey knows the answer.

5. “Gonna wait for me?”/”You’re here for fifteen years.” – There’s this thing Mickey does after he first says that. He chuckles, because he knows that that’s pretty unreasonable to ask and has already predicted Ian’s response. His comment about being out in eight is lighthearted, a serious matter spoken as a joke because…this isn’t juvie anymore. They’re not going to see each other in a few months. This is Mickey’s version of what Ian was just doing, only where Ian tried to withdraw and escape within himself, Mickey is making it more humorous. He’s always done that, make light of pretty serious things to avoid looking at just how messed up it is. But I didn’t get the feeling he was really asking for Ian to wait that long. Instead, I got the feeling that he was testing the waters, seeing if Ian would shut him down—which he didn’t. He offered the bullshit excuse that Mickey tried to kill a member of his family, and Mickey saw through that immediately. I think he knows that he can’t ask Ian to seriously wait and never be with anyone else for fifteen years, or even for eight. I think he knows what he’s saying is a touch absurd. He also knows that Ian’s excuse is extremely absurd, and he doesn’t buy it for a second. It gives him a little courage to do something…well, a bit absurd.

6. “Will you? Wait? Fucking lie if you have to, man. Eight years is a long time.” – I think the important part of this isn’t that Ian says he’ll wait when he doesn’t mean it, which is the popular take. For one thing, I don’t think we can ascribe that level of calculated behavior to Ian in this instance. There are a few things about this part of the scene that mean a lot to me: (1) Ian doesn’t get up and go. He doesn’t even move in that direction. He sits there with the phone after the buzzer sounds and before Mickey tells him to lie. His mouth opens and closes like he’s not sure what to say. Because what can he say? If Mickey serves the maximum, Ian will be in his mid-thirties by the time they can be together. At that point, he was either nearing eighteen or just turned. I still can’t fathom what I’ll be doing in my mid-thirties, and I’m a whole lot older than that. Ian looks just a little terrified here, and that’s because he knows he loves Mickey but has no clue what he’s supposed to do with that in the impossible circumstances they’re operating under. (2) Ian can’t even see himself moving on yet. He’s still trying to figure himself out, not think about a relationship. He has a job he hates, and his family is a different brand of chaos these days. He feels alone, yes, but not in a way that has him openly desperate for a relationship. Based on what he says to Mandy about Caleb, I think it’s pretty safe to assume that he doesn’t think he’ll ever be in a serious relationship at this point or even in a position for more than casual sex anytime in the near future. How can he say that he’ll wait when he doesn’t know where he’ll be whenever Mickey does get out? Maybe he’ll feel better. Maybe he’ll be out of his mind, roaming all over the place like Monica. Maybe he won’t just be standing on that bridge. It’s a huge question, one that has a lot of ramifications no matter what his answer is, and Ian clearly has none. He’s blindsided by that, which Mickey sees. That’s when he gets serious about those eight years, about how absurd their situation really is. That’s perhaps the first and only time in this scene where we can see that, for as successful as he is at navigating prison, his freedom means something to him. His freedom means he wouldn’t have to coax a glance out of Ian—he could kiss his dumb ass and make him stop being stubborn about how much he loves Mickey. But he can’t. He won’t be able to for a long time. And I think that is what really breaks his heart in this scene, not…

7. “Yeah. Yeah, Mick, I’ll wait.” – Did anyone else notice how Ian swallowed hard before he answered? How his voice gets hoarse when he first speaks? I paused again to type, and the video is sitting on his face staring at the counter before the second part of what he says. He looks like he might cry. He looks like his heart is breaking just as much as Mickey’s is, because he can do what he’s asking this time—reassure him with a lie. Not because he doesn’t intend to wait, but because he is buried so far under what life has piled on top of him that he can’t see the light these days, and he doesn’t see waiting or moving on. He just sees the daily struggle of being this shell of a person. Of being without Mickey even if they’re not technically together. (Admittedly, I think he knew they would be if Mickey weren’t in prison at that moment. Ian has no real self-control where he’s concerned. Lip told him as much, and he’s self-aware enough to realize it, hence his behavior in this whole scene.)

When Ian hangs up the phone, he doesn’t get up immediately. He looks at Mickey—really looks at him—and each of them watches the other’s heart shatter. I don’t see it the way a lot of people do, though. On Mickey’s side, I don’t see it as being because Ian lied. I think it’s so much bigger than that.

Ian looks at him when they can’t hear each other anymore, and if he didn’t seem ready to cry before, he looks it now. Why? Because there’s nothing he can do for Mickey besides that. Ian, ever the giver, can’t give him anything. At that point, he couldn’t even help himself. He can’t be what Mickey needs in that moment, just like he couldn’t be what Mickey needed while he was sick, and it kills him. It kills him to know that by the time Mickey does get out, he’ll be older than he can fathom being and has no idea if he’ll even be around that long. It kills him to feel like even if he is, he’ll still have nothing to offer because, in his own words, this is where he lands. And it kills him to have to walk away and leave what he loves most behind glass.

Mickey is watching this. He knows Ian, and as painful as it was to get exactly what he asked for, it’s even more painful for him to see what him being here does to Ian. Where Ian is a giver, Mickey is a fixer. He makes things better. When stuff is broken, he puts it back together. When there’s a problem, he resolves it. Ian was going to leave because he couldn’t be an unacknowledged number three in Mickey’s life anymore? He jumped to solve the problem by coming out. Ian was acting strangely and wouldn’t get out of bed for so long that Mickey realized something was wrong? He immediately went to hunt down Lip, who he knows is closer to Ian than anyone else in his family. Fiona tells him that Ian is sick and needs to be cared for? He jumps in to do it, even to the point where it did more harm than good. Sammi caused a problem that Mickey couldn’t solve? He fixed the problem of her being there at all. But here he sits, behind glass, watching Ian that whole time and knowing that he was trying to maintain some emotional distance—and, because it’s Mickey, knowing why. There’s nothing he can do about this. He can’t fix it. For the first time since s3, Mickey is absolutely helpless to fix a problem. He takes a breath as Ian walks away as though he’s about to say something, but what can he say? What can he do? Nothing. He can do nothing but hang up the phone and weather the storm.

In the end, the heartbreak in this scene isn’t about them hurting each other, from my perspective. It’s not about Ian being callous and cruel or purposely trying to hurt Mickey. They know each other too well for that. They’ve been through too much. To me, this is about two people who love each other more than anything not being able to be what the other needed when they needed them—and that’s a whole lot more painful.

How can I write a couple with a healthy relationship?

I mean I don't want them to change themselves to make the other happy but I want them to work well

You know, it’s funny, this is a very serious question but I’m just laughing.

Because I feel like I am not the writer you’re looking for as I have never, in my life, written a story that is solely centered around two characters having a healthy relationship.

I like to think I write relationships well, that I write well period, but I have never written a story with the goal you outline in mind.

Still, I’ll do my best and see where this takes us. Though caveat that as I’ll be speaking very generally it may not apply to your situation.

First, a post I made earlier, how to write organic, believable, relationships period.

All of that still applies which... makes your goal a little harder.

What do I mean?

Stories Are About Change

At their heart, stories are always a journey. Something happens. It can be big, it can be small, maybe the characters learned something, maybe they pointedly learned nothing. Some things changed, some things didn’t, but as an audience we left feeling something. However, the point being, it is not a snapshot.

Which automatically puts us in deep water with your premise.

If I’m writing a story that’s focused on a relationship, and I want that relationship to be depicted in a certain manner and only that manner, and that’s all I want to touch on: I don’t have a story, I have an aesthetic. It’s a nice aesthetic, I like it, but it is just a snapshot in time.

If our characters are only ever in a healthy relationship, if they never enter or grow into this relationship, or leave this relationship, and we have nothing else going on... Then what’s this even about?

Nobody grows, nobody changes, it’s just... stagnant.

So, right away that presents a problem. If the relationship is the whole point then it must change throughout the story. That’s what people do, we change, we learn things about the world and about each other.

And that means... it might not always be at its healthiest.

Mitigation One: Don’t Focus on the Relationship

Alright, well, what if the story’s not about the relationship? What if there are just two characters who have a very healthy relationship inside the story and I have some other, larger, plot going on?

Well, you’re in a better place here. We have an excuse for things with the couple to move more slowly, we have other sources of conflict that the characters can focus on while still relying on one another but...

You’re still going to have issues because our characters are still growing as people.

As they confront things out there in the wide world their view of the world, of themselves, and of each other will change. There will be miscommunications, their beliefs may come into conflict, their desires may come into conflict, and they may grow to be people who cannot in fact maintain a healthy relationship (which, ending a relationship that’s bad for you can be a very healthy thing to do).

Now, maybe they work through these issues, which is a very healthy thing to do. However, they will likely still run into these issues and may have periods where tensions are running very high and the relationship seems like it will fail. In other words, in working through issues, you may have periods where you’re writing a relationship you do not wish to.

Relationships have highs and they have lows, you have to be willing to write such things even if said relationship is taking a backseat to the greater plot.

Mitigation Two: Move From an Unhealthy Relationship to a Healthy Relationship

To me some of the greatest stories that focus on a pair are those which focus on Character A realizing they’re in a horrible relationship and getting out, sometimes finding a better one.

Take, “The Revolutionary Girl Utena”. That is what this entire, beautiful, show is about. The characters begin in the most toxic, horrific, abusive relationships and yet we end on a very hopeful note where people recognize the relationships they were in, get out, and someday in the future might begin again with healthier partners.

You have everything a story needs in this. You have growth of characters, you have a lot of tension and conflict, you have a recognition of what love is, what healthy relationships truly are, and what bad relationships are.

However, this is a very dark path, as it involves writing the relationship you do not, in fact, wish to write at all. You end up where you want to, which might be sweeter for it, but maybe as a writer this isn’t what you want to focus on.

Mitigation Three: The Story is the Development of the Relationship

Perhaps the story closest to what you’re looking for is one that focuses on the relationship coming into being. In other words, the slow burn route. The characters are well suited to each other, they treat each other with dignity and respect, but for a variety of legitimate reasons they do not get together until the very end of your story.

The story, then, is how these people end up together (among other things).

However, this isn’t quite the Healthy Relationship I see bandied about on Ao3 either, because it’s slow burn. The characters still have to grow as people, undoubtedly have their own faults or barriers that get in the way of the relationship starting, and may have significant communication issues.

They end up where you want them to be, in a great communicative relationship, but there are reasons they don’t start there which violate the Healthy Relationship axiom.

Some Other Problems

Changing Your Characters to Make the Ship Work

In your ask you outline one of the major issues with the Healthy Relationship trope. Sometimes, if you have two characters in mind, they will simply never enter a healthy relationship. Ever.

Their backgrounds, personalities, goals, or something are completely incompatible. Trying to get them together is like trying to fit a round peg into a square hole. It’s just not going to work and feel very hamfisted if you try.

And honestly, the best advice I have for that is to accept it. I’m sorry it sucks your ship isn’t going to work out the way you wanted, but if you’re working that hard, it means your brain is screaming at you “DON’T DO IT!!!” Your brain is usually right in these matters.

If you change too much of a character to make it work, then it’s not even the character you wanted to smash together with the other character.

Now, that said, while you should never enter a relationship expecting to change your partner into someone you like (nor should they have to change for you), I will say that people do change. More, if we’re talking things like “my partner is a mass murderer”, then yeah, we should change that to enter a healthy relationship (or, perhaps the safest option, don’t enter that relationship at all).

I once read a fic that, while mostly good, ended on the hilariously terrible morale of Character A realizing it was wrong to what to change her love interest Character B and that she should accept her for who she is. Great moral at a distance, a great lesson learned, but in the scope of the story fell to pieces. What did Character B do that Character A initially objected to? She murdered thousands of people. I’m still with Character A’s initial thoughts on that one.

What the Hell is a Healthy Relationship?

If you read fics focusing on healthy relationships a lot of the time they’re... really weird. The couple never seem to have any emotions, they’re always placid and calm (with a great BDSM sex life), never have any fights, never have any conflict between their interest, and just smile at each other and become complete Stepford Wives.

The author is so focused on the relationship being healthy, the pair never fighting and having fantastic safe yet realistic sex, that they forget what relationships are.

It’s okay if your characters fight, it’s okay if they sometimes forget how to communicate, the point is if they are able to work through these barriers or not.

Why Are You Asking Me?

Now, all that said, I am just one person on the internet. A lot of people love the healthy relationship trope, and frankly, if you give it to them they will love you forever.

People will routinely read and adore 100k stories where nothing happens, at all, except we see two characters just be in this stagnant healthy relationship with each other interrupted by your occasional lemon. Maybe during the story a second set of characters will enter an equally healthy relationship to fuel the plot.

And hey, if other people like it, who am I to complain? Go for it, have fun, have your healthy relationship and slice of life story. I personally may not read it, but you’re not writing it for me, are you?

Rusty Quill update on COVID-19

Here’s the transcript from their site for the statement they just released, stay safe and take care y’all.

“Hi everyone,

This is Alexander J Newall, CEO of Rusty Quill Ltd. and this announcement is to explain how we have been handling the Covid-19 outbreak so far and to let people know what they can expect from us in the coming months.

Firstly, I want to take a moment to let everyone know that, although some of our colleagues have been exposed and some have already contracted the virus, they are recovering well and have taken all sensible precautions to stay healthy and quarantined. We are in daily contact to ensure their well-being, and I am sure I speak for everyone when I wish them a speedy and full recovery.

Thankfully, we took a number of early precautionary measures which have helped us to mitigate any problems before they could escalate. This included closing our recording studios, implementing self-isolating procedures and organising a dedicated crisis team to help ensure all our colleagues’ ongoing well-being during this time.

Naturally an exceptional situation like this does mean we are going to be making some further changes going forward. However, to be absolutely clear, we are still very much open for business. As content creators we have a responsibility both to our colleagues and to our fans to provide employment and entertainment respectively, especially in times of hardship. With this in mind I can confirm that all our colleagues are retaining their positions and we are going to continue our existing release schedule as planned for all shows. Furthermore, we will be providing regular updates for everyone as to how things are running.

That said, we are going to need to make the following adjustments to our productions to ensure that we can continue to work in a safe and sustainable manner for the foreseeable future. Firstly, I am sorry to announce we are cancelling our live, in-person participation in any events until further notice, including the 2020 Gaming and Giving Livestream. In their place we are arranging to take part in a number of online equivalents. The 2020 Gaming and Giving Livestream will still take place this year but we are now looking at streaming remotely without a live audience. We will provide more information about all of these as soon as we can.

Secondly, as I mentioned previously, our recording studios are closed for the foreseeable future. This means we are pivoting our production to remote recording setups so that we can continue to record content without risking the safety of our cast and crew and maintain all our existing production schedules. We do not believe that these changes will reduce the audio quality of any of the shows you know and love but we ask for your patience during this adjustment period as minor delays are possible as we all get used to these new systems.

Finally, in terms of future productions, our next commissioning round for new content will continue in May as planned and we are even looking to launch a significant amount of new community-focused content for both Patrons and the public to help keep people happy and healthy during this quarantine period. More info will be available on these projects very soon via all our normal community channels.

We could not achieve any of this without the loyalty and support of our fans and colleagues and so I would like to take a moment to thank everyone.

Thank you to our amazing production team and performers for their dedication and flexibility during this period. We could not ask for a more wonderful bunch of creatives.

And thank you to our astonishingly generous supporters. We actually passed 3000 patrons recently despite current events and it is incredibly humbling to see people supporting the creators they love during hard times such as these. Thank you so much to both our long-standing contributors who have stuck with us through thick and thin and to all of those that have begun supporting us more recently to help us through this time. We do however, wish to voice a note of caution to everyone, that though your contributions are hugely appreciated please, give responsibly. We do not want anyone to commit over what they can afford, and we understand if people need to step back from their support during these times.

On a related note to this, COVID-19 has affected the arts in general very heavily, and despite the uncertainty Rusty Quill faces, we have decided we will be donating 10% of all our Patron income to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund effective immediately.

This fund was created by the World Health Organisation and United Nations and it ‘enables private individuals, corporations and institutions anywhere in the world to come together to directly contribute to global response efforts’. We have always sought to lead by example and now more than ever we are committed to this goal.

Obviously these are difficult times but we truly believe that if we all just continue to take care of each other we will be able to weather this. Please be kind, stay safe and support one another. Online communities such as ours matter more now than ever and we are so fortunate to stand side-by-side with all you as we beat this thing. Together.

Shouta Aizawa x Reader

Summary: You have a session with Bakugo and Midoriya- and then get called out by your co-workers over your relationship with Shouta.

Word Count: 5,500+

Part One | Part Two | Part Three

Once you step into the school, you immediately realize how wrong this is.

“Hey,” you stop in your tracks as you speak, Bakugo glaring at you from over his shoulder. You try not to let it get to you as you look around the building, a frown on your face. “Wait here, okay?” Your brain is slowly formulating a plan- you’re sure it will work, but you need permission to put it into action. Bakugo fully turns around as you walk off, yelling loud enough to disturb classes on several floors.

“Hey! That’s not how this works! Where the hell are you going?!”

“I said to wait here, Bakugo,” there’s an authoritative tone in your voice- you don’t usually talk like this, but Bakugo is different. You already know that a session with him is going to be wildly different than a session with anyone else.

Don’t be a pushover, but don’t take control. Use your authority when it matters, but don’t beat him over the head with it. Someone like Bakugo needs more freedom in order to articulate himself properly- controlling his temper is going to be difficult.

As you step into the bottom floor elevator, you watch as he begrudgingly sits on one of the chairs in the lobby, his foot tapping up and down at a rabbit’s pace.

At least he listened to you.

It takes around five minutes before you’re heading back down the elevator, a pissed off Bakugo waiting for you in the meanwhile. There’s a smile on your face as you walk past him and toward the U.A doors. “Come on, Bakugo, we’re going on a field trip!”

“What?!” Bakugo, ever the demanding one, sprints until he’s walking in front. He doesn’t know where he’s going, but still, he walks with confidence.

“Would you really talk to me at all if I forced you to sit in my office?” Bakugo’s mouth opens but you answer for him. “No, you wouldn’t. So we’re going to the training gym. I hope you can handle it,” there’s a glint in your eye as you challenge him.

“Of course I can handle it!! Let��s go!!”

He responds exactly as you expected him to.

“This isn’t the training gym.”

You grin. “Really? What gave it away?”

Bakugo is right and wrong. This isn’t the training gym that he’s familiar with, but it’s still technically U.A property. The two of you are surrounded by a lush, green forest, the trees reaching miles into the air as they sit deep in the earth. It’s perfect for someone like Bakugo.

“Listen, I talked to Nezu about this and he gave the go-ahead. This is where we’ll do our sessions- the session we have now, and at any point in the future. I want you to be able to move freely, do what you want, and say what you want. But there’s a catch, okay?” Bakugo’s attention is fully on you as you remove your jacket and roll up your sleeves. “You have to listen to me, and you can’t run away until our thirty minutes is up. Does that sound like something you can do?”

His eye angrily twitches. “Fine,” he huffs. You place your jacket on a nearby rock and nod, happy with his answer. You have a feeling that he’s only playing along right now because this is a mandatory session Shouta gave him- so you’re going to do your best with the compliance you have at the moment.

“Alright. So, we’ll start simple. I want you to yell at the trees.”

Bakugo stares at you for a moment before he scowls, that scary look he often wears coming back. “You’re crazy.”

You sigh. “No, I’m not. You said you’ll do what I say, and I say: yell at the trees.” You point at the abyss of the forest and Bakugo rolls his eyes so hard that it’s possible they might fall out. “You have anger problems, Bakugo. You constantly yell at your classmates and your teachers- it needs to stop. You have to learn when and where to let out everything that’s burning in you. I want to show you how to control your anger and let it out in a healthy manner.”

“I don’t have anger problems,” he’s not looking at you anymore. He’s glaring daggers into the ground and you huff. You turn toward the trees, taking a deep, calming breath.

And then you let it all out.

“My sister canceled her Hulu subscription!” You scream at the top of your lungs and Bakugo jolts in surprise next to you, his eyes wide. Your body leans forward as you force out your scream, eyes tightly closed. “Now how am I going to watch my shows?! You want me to pay for it?! Fuck no, I’m not going to waste my money!”

Huffing wildly, you look over to Bakugo and give him a fierce grin. The look on his face morphs- and you think he finally gets it.

“Shitty Deku! Shitty shitty hair! Shitty extras! They’re all in my way- why do they keep looking at me like that?!” Bakugo finally screams, his face pleased but angry at the same time. You listen as well as you can- but you keep yelling to egg him on.

“Why do my friends always tell me to take it easy?! I know what I’m doing! Don’t tell me what to do!”

“Why does everyone think I’m a villain?! I’m a hero! I’m going to be the best hero there is!”

The two of you continue to scream into the forest for around ten minutes. Near the end, you have to call it quits because you’ve teared up your throat and you can feel your vocal cords burning. When you head to your discarded items on the ground you take out two water bottles- one for you, and one that you throw Bakugo’s way. He catches it with ease and then the next two minutes of your session is spent chugging water and catching your breath.

...Now comes the hard part. Getting him to actually talk about his feelings instead of screaming them out.

“Okay,” you take a deep breath, letting it out slowly. Your voice cracks as you speak, but that’s to be expected. “That went great. I’m, uh… a little winded, but that was good.”

“I’m not,” Bakugo seems to have all his energy back as he grins and cracks his knuckles.

“Jesus Christ,” you groan, “how do you do that?”

“Practice.”

“...Right. So, are you ready for the next big thing? We still have…” You look at your watch. “Fifteen minutes.” Bakugo doesn’t bother to hide his angry, disappointed look. You huff out a sigh and look around the earth floor until you find a heavy stump- it’s the best thing to sit on, so you head toward it and make yourself comfortable.

“Since we’re ‘getting this over with’ and everything, let’s get right to it. What about Midoriya makes you so angry?” You throw his words from earlier back at him, crossing your legs and leaning your elbows on your thighs.

“Nothing,” he immediately frowns. “I don’t care about that shitty extra enough to be affected by him!”

“But you are,” you immediately argue, “just the mention of Midoriya has you tensing up. I’ll be honest- I don’t know anything about your history with your classmate. But I’d like to know so I can help you move on from whatever is holding you back.”

His eye twitches. “I’m not being held back! I’m stronger than Deku- better than him!”

“But it’s not because you’re naturally better than him- you’ve gone out of your way to become stronger to spite him. Why? Why do you need to be better than Midoriya?”

“Because I am better!”

This is getting nowhere. You realized that no, you couldn’t change Bakugo’s drilled in behaviors with one session, but you thought you could at least loosen him up a bit. But he’s too defensive- whatever answer lies in him is tied up with a lock and key that you don’t have to tools to unlock yet.

“Okay,” you purse your lips and stand back up. “Let’s do it this way. Every time you feel like you need to yell at Midoriya, Kirishima- anyone, I want you to hold your breath and count to five. Slowly exhale and move on. And then at the end of the day, I want you to come out here and let it all out.” You look Bakugo in the eye and frown. “Does that sound like something you can do?”

“I don’t see why I should listen to you,” he frowns back, hands going back in his pockets as his whole body grows tense with frustration.

“Because I know what I’m doing. I don’t tell you to do things to boss you around or to make you weak, I tell you to do things because I believe they will make you strong and they will help you become a better hero.” You slowly start to pick up your things on the ground, shrugging your jacket back on and straightening it out with a tug. “You can choose to follow my advice or you can throw it away. I don’t control you, Bakugo- I’m just here to help. If letting go of your problems and yelling at the trees helped… do yourself a favor and keep doing it.”

Once your little speech is finished, you head down the path you walked down to get here. “For now, we’ll end this early. Let’s get back to the dorms.”

Bakugo has nothing to say to you- that much is obvious by how he directly avoids your gaze and sulks behind you. Maybe you were harsh- but you don’t think so. The angry blonde just has a lot of thinking to do… so you let the silence suffocate you the entire walk back to the dorms, knowing that it’s a silence that Bakugo desperately needed for now.

Coming back to the dorms was slightly awkward since Midoriya was there waiting for both of you. You don’t really blame him- it’s not like he has anything else to do. Bakugo takes one look at him sitting in the common area before he loudly huffs and storms off upstairs, assumingly to his room. You stand in awkward silence with Midoriya until you can hear the sound of Bakugo’s door slamming shut, making both of you jump.

“Did it… go well?” Midoriya winces and you sigh, running a hand through your hair.

“As well as it could, honestly. He just… has some thinking to do. Do you think you can try to stay out of his sight for the rest of the day?” You frown as you realize how unfair that sounds “I know it’s-”

“No, I get it,” Midoriya quickly interrupts you with a sad look. “I usually do that anyway.”

Man, what a sad duo. You walk over to the young hero and sit a respectable distance away from him on the couch, immediately relaxing into the cushions as you do. You hadn’t realized how strung up you were until just now…

“What about you, Midoriya? You want to ‘get it over with’?”

“No, I’m okay,” Midoriya smiles at you with a laugh. “You look pretty wiped out, anyway.”

“I am wiped out. Details are confidential, but I think it’s safe to say we did a lot of yelling. I don’t know how he does it because I’m exhausted.”

Midoriya giggles at you- his nose scrunching up in a cute way. “That sounds like him. Ah- sorry, I’m not laughing at you!”

“No, I know. Anyways, what’s on your agenda for today?”

“Well, I was just trying to study…” You suddenly realize that you had completely overlooked the textbooks and notes on the glass table in front of you.

“Oh, I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to interrupt!” You sit up quickly, intending to leave before Midoriya quickly waves his hands in protest.

“It’s okay! I could use a break, anyway.” Without meaning to, your eyes move toward a burnt notebook on the table and you can’t help but be curious.

“What’s that?” You point at it and the boy beside you hums.

“It’s my hero notebook…” He softly picks it up- just looking at how he handles it, you can tell that it’s deeply treasured and you find yourself smiling. “I keep it with me in case I think of anything new to put in it… I actually wrote a bit about you!”

“Really?” Your eyebrows shoot up in surprise, and you stutter- “b-but I’m not a hero.” You watch as Midoriya flips through the notebook, going toward one of the last pages before he hands it to you.

“W-well, not technically, but your quirk sounds really interesting, and you’re helping everyone in U.A with their feelings… I think that’s pretty... cool,” His cheeks grow red from embarrassment, but you’re honestly touched. You read what he’s put on your page but it’s fairly empty. He’s written the name of your quirk and how you explained it to the class on the first day, and then a few questions he has written on the sides.

You hand the book back to him. “Thank you, Midoriya… I’m very flattered. If you’re curious, I can answer some of the questions you wrote.” You feel like it’s the least you can do.

Midoriya’s face lights up at your offer. “Really?”

“Yeah, of course! I’ll answer what I can.”

The boy grabs his pencil that sat on the table, eagerly flipping it between his fingers as he shifts in his seat, the notebook resting on his thigh. “Okay! So… I guess the first thing I want to know is more how it works.”

“That’s a good start,” you laugh and cross your legs, resting against the couch armrest as you think. “Well, as I said before, my quirk is about sensory. If I touch someone, I can temporarily increase any of their five senses: touch, sight, hearing, smell, and taste. I have to really focus on the specific sense I want to heighten on a person- if I do it wrong, all of their senses could be increased, or the wrong one and it would be too much. The human body goes into a shock if this happens so suddenly and drastically, causing a sensory overload. It can take someone out of commission for a while.”

Midoriya quickly writes down everything you had said- his eyes focused as he does. “And you can do it on yourself?”

You nod. “Yes. I actually use it in little ways somewhat frequently- like if I’m eating my favorite dessert, I’ll make my taste a bit more sensitive so I can really taste everything about it. Sometimes it can really ruin food, though, so I don’t do it a lot.”

“That makes sense-“ Suddenly, Midoriya looks like he’s thought of another question as his eyes widen and he looks up at you. “Do you think you might be able to strengthen other quirks?”

Honestly, you’d never thought about it and the question baffles you. “Well, I’m not sure. Do you have an example?”

“Well, Aizawa’s quirk is centered around his eyes. If he looks at a person, he can erase their quirk, but eventually, he needs to blink. And he can’t use his quirk if he can’t see someone… if you used your quirk on him, could it strengthen his quirk by enhancing his sight?”

“...Huh,” you say aloud, still stunned as you sit on the couch with almost nothing to say. “I have no idea. That’s a really good question.”

“Maybe you could try it out… you and Aizawa look like your good friends,” Midoriya mumbles and then writes in his notebook again. You’re once again surprised by him- did it really seem that way?

You suppose you and Shouta are friends, but not enough so that you’d feel comfortable enough experimenting on him. It’s an interesting idea, though.

“Anyway,” you laugh nervously, “any other questions?”

Midoriya and you talk for a while until you eventually leave him to his studies, but it felt good to bond with him. Midoriya is a very intelligent kid, and he’s surprisingly thoughtful as well. He’s almost the complete opposite of Bakugo in personality, but their academics match up fairly evenly. They have different thought processes, but they’re equally smart and driven.

It’s not long into the day before you realize that you have basically nothing to do. Bakugo and Midoriya have their studies, but you had left all your work at home, rendering you basically useless for the day. So around noon you finally decide to leave them alone for a bit as you head out to pick up your laptop and files from your office. It shouldn’t be a big deal; you’ll be gone for ten minutes, tops.

But unlikely things have a history of finding you recently, and as soon as you step into the building you’re loudly greeted by Yamada in the lobby, along with a quieter greeting from Yagi.

“___!!! I heard what Shouta did!!! You must be so bored!!!” Yamada booms, hands on his hips once he makes his way over to you at the doors.

You fluster under his intensity and laugh. “Oh, it’s okay! Shouta thought it was for the best, and he was right for the most part. I just came here to gather some of my work so I have something to do.”

You don’t think there’s anything wrong with what you said, but you watch as Yagi’s face grows more and more confused.

“Hey! You used his given name! He lets you do that?!” Yamada seems positively flabbergasted.

“Oh, well-”

“What is your relationship with him, anyway?” Yagi finally speaks, a hand on his chin as he stares at you. “Didn’t you both go out together for breakfast this morning?”

“WHAT!!!”

“It’s not like that!” You quickly deny as your cheeks grow warm. How does he know that, anyway? “He just felt bad for laying this on me, so he treated me for breakfast. That’s all!”

“Shouta doesn’t DO THAT!” Yamada yells. “He fucks me over all the time, you think I get free breakfast?! Yagi, this is weird!”

“It is. Weren’t you touching him last night?”

“WHAT!!!!!!!”

“Don’t say it like that!” You feel a strong urge to push the tall skeletal man over, but you know he’s basically just that: a walking skeleton. He might just fall apart, so you keep your thoughts to yourself. “He was looking tense so I rubbed his back! So what?”

Yagi leans over to Yamada- who might just make your ears bleed soon- and he whispers. “Shouta let them do that, by the way.”

He quickly slaps his hand against Yamada’s mouth before he brings down the whole building.

“It’s not like that,” if Bakugo’s therapy wore you out, it’s almost nothing compared to these two. “Shouta is just a friend of mine. I’m not looking for anything else.” They give you a look and you deadpan. “Really. Anyways, I have to get my work and get back to the students. So just… have a good day,” you sigh with exhaustion and quickly walk away from your co-workers, tail between your legs as you quickly find your office and shut the door as quick as you can.

How highschool. But you suppose it fits, considering you work in one.

Even though you had told both Yamada and Yagi to leave it alone, they really don’t. You’re thankfully hidden away in the student dorms, but somehow they got ahold of your phone number, and it’s been three days. Three days of them texting you about Shouta- or, in Yagi’s case, he asks you about your day (and strangely, Midoriya) sometimes and then other times he sends you random recipes he found online. But then he’ll bug you with his questions and you’ll ignore those messages.

You also noticed that even though they liked to tease you, they never dared tease Shouta about it. At this point, it was like a personal joke between the three of you that Shouta absolutely could not be a part of and you were reluctantly a part of. It might be because he’s a lot scarier than you- you can be easy to make fun of just because you don’t have the energy to be too mad about it.

But besides that, you still have work to do. Midoriya has been surprisingly reluctant to see you, and you know that today’s his last day before class. It’s now or never, so you head up the dorm elevator and softly knock on his door.

Midoriya doesn’t look surprised to see you.

“Hey,” you smile down at him. “Are you ready?”

The boy nodded with a ‘yeah’, his feet shuffling anxiously. “S-should we go down to your office, or…?”

“Well, it would be good if we did it in my office, but we don’t have to. Would you rather we do it here?” He nods again. “That’s fine! I hope you have a seat for me!”

Midoriya lets you into his room looking slightly embarrassed- the first thing you notice is that literally everything in his room is branded with All Might colors and design. There’s a beanbag in the corner and that’s about it, so you head over and fall into it with a giggle. “I haven’t been in a beanbag since college!”

“Y-you don’t mind, do you?” He stutters and shuts his door. He looks a lot more nervous than you expected him to be.

“Not at all! I like your room. It’s got a theme… but I’m not sure what.”

Your little joke makes him laugh and you’re glad. He sits down on his bed, crossing his legs and shuffling around to get comfortable for a few minutes. You watch him with an amused look.

“Alright, are you ready?” You ask him again and he quickly nods several times. He seems to be hyping himself up.

“Yes!”

“So- how would you like this to go, Midoriya?” You ask that first. “I can lead the session, or you can lead it and have me make my input whenever you see fit.”

You know he’s never been to therapy, like most of the kids at U.A, because he looks surprised that he has a choice. “Uhm,” he hums. “You lead it.”

You nod at his choice and smile. “Alright. Well, you know why I’m here- you had a fight with Bakugo several days ago, leading to your temporary suspension. Why don’t we start there? What happened?”

“Right. It was after our license exams… I passed and Kacchan didn’t. Kacchan has always wanted to be better than me… So I think it bothered him. He told me to meet him where we fought after everyone went to bed, so I did… Then we fought.” His explanation is a little lacking, but you don’t blame him since this is his first time really talking about it.

You place the iPad you brought with you on your thigh, making a few notes on it as you speak. “You fought. But what lead up to that fight? I’m sure there was a reason that Bakugo decided to lash out on you- and there was a reason why you decided to fight back.”

Midoriya’s shoulders tense and he hums again, his fingers making patterns on his blankets. “I’ve always wanted to be like Kacchan. I’ve always wanted to live up to his expectations a little bit because he’d tease me and say I couldn’t do anything… I wanted to prove him wrong. I wanted to show him that I don’t think less of him- but I’m not weak anymore.”

Even though he’s uneasy, he looks very sure about his answer. You make a few more notes on your screen.

“You said that you don’t think less of him- is that something Bakugo is worried about?”

He nervously laughs, a wincing grin on his face. “Yeah. I don’t know why, but Kacchan has always thought that I’ve looked down on him. It… bugs him. And I don’t know why he thinks that because I’ve never looked down on him or thought I was better.”

You think back on your session with Bakugo. He immediately got sensitive and tense when you brought up Midoriya… But the reason as to why is still a mystery, even with the new information Midoriya has given you.

“Do you know what caused his outburst this time? I heard from Yagi that he felt responsible for his retirement… how do you feel about that?”

He must really care for All Might if his room is anything to go off of.

“I… there’s a lot of factors in All Might’s retirement… It’s complicated.” Midoriya’s hands fall in his lap, twisting together anxiously. “A few other classmates and I helped save Kacchan when he was kidnapped by the League… that probably hurt his pride. And then that’s when All Might fought with All for One. I… feel a little uneasy about it myself, but I had no idea Kacchan took it so personally.”

You nod with a sigh. All these kids have collectively been through so much- it makes you feel uneasy knowing that, but you move on. “That fight was a very big day. The fact that several of you were there to witness it doesn’t make me feel very good, I’ll admit.”

You’ve always wanted to get to the bottom of Bakugo’s kidnapping. Midoriya has a lot of the puzzle pieces, but you try not to pry. It’s best if you get your answers from Bakugo himself.

The rest of the session goes with a certain level of ease. You notice that several times, Midoriya stutters on what to say to you or he grows a lot more nervous than normal. You also notice that it’s almost always when you bring up his quirk or All Might- Midoriya is very obviously hiding something from you. You’re not sure yet if it’s absolutely dire that you need to know what it is, so you try to back off certain topics that make him jumpy for now. You want to make him feel better around you, not worse.

By the end, your topic has changed to school. He’s definitely excited to get back to class- he told you several times about how he doesn’t like that he’s technically behind in everything. You admire his drive to be a hero- it seems to be the thing he’s passionate about most.

“Hey, Midoriya…” The boy had gotten up and out of his bed now that you’ve ended the session, but there’s still one thing left to do. He looks over at you curiously and you blush a little. “Can you help get me out of this thing?”

Both of you laugh as he pulls you out of the beanbag chair.

It’s your last day of technically-not-but-still-technically house arrest. Midoriya was bustling through the hallways and main area when you entered the building- but after your talk with him yesterday, you’re not surprised. You give him a high-five as he sprints past you and heads off to school, grinning as he eagerly says goodbye to you.

The kid was really strong though and it left your hand stinging with the aftereffects of his strength for a few minutes after he left.

But other than that, things were relatively normal. All the students have headed off and you helped Bakugo with the dishes so he was up in his room now. Bakugo still didn’t really like talking with you, but he didn’t seem to hate you. He just barely tolerated your presence, which you figure is the best you can get out of him for now.

It’s an hour and a half after everyone has left before Shouta comes over.

You don’t notice him- you’re so busy with your laptop that you don’t even hear him come in and walk over to you. It’s not until he clears his throat that you jump and look at him with wide eyes.

Then you quickly look back at your screen and frown. “I don’t know how you keep doing that.”

He chuckles at you and nudges your shoulder so you look at him again. You notice the paper cup of what is assumingly coffee in his hands- an offer for you. “Congratulations on surviving,” he says.

Immediately you smile and move to take the cup- but then you remember the two men who have been pestering you about exactly this and you freeze. “Um,” you stare at the drink, fingers twitching. You want it. You really want it- but at what cost?

Shouta deadpans. “What’s wrong with you.”

It’s not even a question- it’s like he’s just stating facts and you sigh, taking the cup reluctantly before sinking back into the couch cushions in shame. “Our co-workers won’t stop bothering me.”

You figured that Shouta wouldn’t know what you’re talking about since you know Yamada and Yagi stayed away from him about it, but he looks surprisingly understanding as he sits next to you on the couch. “Ah,” he sighs. And then he groans, a hand resting on his face and pushing his hair back. “I figured those two were doing something.”

“How?”

“They might not be talking to me about whatever they’re doing, but they’re the most obvious people I’ve ever met. They stare at me all day and expect me not to notice. It’s worrisome, considering that they’re both supposed to be heroes.” You snicker at his comment. “So, what is it?”

Squirming in your seat, you place your laptop off your lap and onto the glass table in front of you. “They keep wondering about our relationship and they like to tease me about it. That’s all it is, really, but it’s exhausting to worry over their high-school fantasies.”

Shouta tsks, a heavy sigh leaving him again. His hands hold his own coffee-cup, long fingers tracing the plastic top. “I’m just starting to know Yagi, but I can assure you that Hizashi has always been like that. He loves to meddle in my personal life- I should have warned you.” Then he lifts a hand to once again rest on his forehead. He doesn’t even look upset by their rumors, just Hizashi. “The fact he’s paired up with Yagi isn’t wonderful, though.”

You watch him with a smile. Now that you’re talking with Shouta about it, you can see how silly it all is. Of course, you knew they were being silly before, but now you just want to laugh. “Wanna see what they’ve been texting me?” You throw your phone in his lap before he answers, Yamada’s texts loaded up.

A minute passes as Shouta reads them. Slowly a grin grows on his face, and then he amusedly snorts. “These are hilarious.”

You grin back, laughing as you read some of them over his shoulder. Yamada got very creative with his fantasies- he was always trying to guess how you and Shouta ‘got together’ and what you do when you sneak off. “He’s very determined!”

Without asking, Shouta exits Yamada’s contact and moves to Yagi’s. “What is this?” He scrolls up several times and there’s link after link. You start laughing again, moving back to your own space so you don’t hover over him too much. “Recipes. I think he’s learning how to cook and he wants to include me in it.”

He clicks on one of the links. And then another- and another. “I had no idea All Might had a thing for sweets.” Shouta moves his eyes over to you, still grinning. You can’t help but think that it looks good on him. “He sure texts you a lot. How do I know you and Yagi don’t have something going on?”

“Oh, I’m trying, believe me,” you swipe your phone away from his hands and pocket it. “But I’m just trying to get his money. Do you know how set for life I would be once I manage to woo him?”

Shouta actually laughs at that one, leaning back on the couch cushions and throwing his head back. You quickly stable the cup he’s holding as you laugh along, not wanting him to spill it on himself. He calms down once he realizes but still cackles under his breath as he sits upright.

Once again, you’re filled with intrusive thoughts. Like how you think his laugh is really handsome, and how you’re glad that you were the one to make him laugh like that. You keep these thoughts to yourself as you cross your legs on the couch and finally drink some of the coffee he bought you.

“You don’t mind it though, right?” Shouta asks. “The two of them being like they are. Because I can get them to stop.”

You smile behind your cup. “No, it’s okay. I was bothered for a second… But now that I talked to you about it, I feel better.”

Shouta takes a sip of his own coffee, staring at you as he does. It’s all the sudden quiet as he looks at you- you hadn’t realized before how intense he can easily be. It’s like he’s luring you into his venus fly trap, encouraging you to do it- before he finally breaks eye contact, continuing to enjoy his drink. You blink twice to realize what just happened.

“Good.”

It’s right then that you begin to worry if Yamada and Yagi’s teasing is completely baseless or not.

Prowl... Prowl’s creation and competence in his area of work is astounding. He is brilliant, creative, and defiantly apathetic of this world. But, he is very human in his own way. IDW Prowl is selfish, yet not. He is a unique in that aspect because most people make decisions like his for the sole reason of benefiting themselves. But Prowl’s sole reason of existing is to create PEACE.

Peace. Peace can only be done when people are complacent, happy, and satisfied. When things are stationary. Stable.

But life is never stable. Elements desire to form bonds, yet are almost always leaning towards to instability... Prowl’s form of PEACE is a world where there is no fighting. But everything sentient requires to fulfill its desires. As long as there is desire, people will fight.

A world of PEACE would be a world of full control, there are no surprises, no change. Safety, routines, and constants. No creativity, no development... nothing. stagnant.

But Prowl doesn’t want to accept that there are things out of his control. And Prowl likes to think he’s justified when he controls the uncontrollable.

I mean, yeah, if he didn’t do what he did, the autobots would have been six feet under A LOT EARLIER. Optimus is not a good leader, preserving organic life over his own soldiers? Psh. Look at Spike, he’s got valid points and can I understand why he left the ‘bots. Prowl’s probably thinking everyday, DAMN, OP, WHY R U SO DUMB. LISTEN WE NEED TO FEED OUR SOLDIERS AND PRIORITIZE OUR SPECIES LIVES INSTEAD OF THIS FUCKING CARBON BASED CIRCLE. HELLO??? And literally Prowl could have been like I’m gonna get ya assassinated so I CAN HAVE IT MY WAY. But Prowl was BORN for the RULES. To follow, to MAKE PEACE. Killing the prime figurehead is against that, even if it would make his life way easier! (hence, not that selfish and also sad that your life is the rules. That’s a short leash, but he makes due)

Honestly I feel bad for Prowl. Must suck to be so big brain that everyone hates you when you say the truths (but also you could learn some more tricks from Jazz to be nicer and hide the truth, but that’s scary because a nicer prowl means more people he can trick and use. Thanks Prowl for being so straightforward! Now people can avoid you easier). He's so straightforward about things that need to be done, he’s in constant denial about the grey area of life!

That’s why when Spike slapped Prowl with reality slaps, Prowl lost some of his shit. Remember, nearly everyone had the edgy depressed time in their teens or young adult years where you realize the world is truly unfair and nothing is black and white? Yeah. Slap that on a 6+ million year old robot with a battle computer and is capable of big brain CPU-age, and was literally built for the sole purpose of enforcing rules and making peace? And no one really cared about Prowl enough to understand him and his background. So Prowl goes through his angst moment alone with his huge titties, frustrated. THIS. IS. WHY. YOU. COMMUNICATE. YA DINGUS.

Prowl doesn’t become a school shooter like Pharma cuz hes got bigger brain and a lot more power and control over himself, but he literally becomes Shadow The Hedgehog (Even if the world’s against me I’ll fight like I’ve always have). HE’S GONE ROGUE. MA’AM, SIR, THE FUCKING OREO COOKIE HAS TRANSFORMED AND ROLLED OUT. like. OP was the one thing holding prowl back, which was good! But now prowl’s on the roll and bumblebee is too nice and passive to hold him back. + the bombshell brainwash? feels so bad. being prowl sucks. because Prowl is a necessary evil.

At least he’s wonderfully blunt about his goal to create a peaceful cybertron, which makes it easier if you want to avoid him or smth. meanwhile you have fake people IRL that smile their way through and then slit your throat and you won’t even know it was them (hey jazz, no offense, but that’s what spec ops does). Fakers are the scariest enemy, but Prowl is still a threat, just not as big as a someone who fluffs you up on a balloon and then pops it. Prowl would just be like, hey, you’re really useful, come over here in my white van i wanna show you something and then maybe you get destroyed. But hey! You were the one with the highest chance of surviving compared to other people! Isn’t that great? You’re so skilled WOW. (Prowl gets punched. Again!) Prowl represents the necessary evil in society. We WILL ALWAYS HAVE EVIL people in this world. But Prowl is a far better evil than people who do evil for their own selfish reasons. It’s like how we have law enforcers and politicians . It’s basically giving them legal rights to do illegal things (lmao). BUT we need them regardless. We need those people to get their hands dirty, possibly killed, so that people can live in innocence and peace.

I don’t think Prowl ever realized that he was a necessary evil, and when Spike showed him that, he was bitter. But he accepted it. Which I respect because most people can’t be bothered to understand themselves and just throw themselves in denial, and point fingers for their flaws. Prowl sucks up and understands who he is, and he makes the best of it to achieve his goal. I mean, honestly? Prowl is probably a miracle worker. Not in a Ratchet sense. But look at the way modern governments run, nothing gets done, everything is stalled because no one has the guts to make sacrifices. Prowl would have gotten a shit ton of things done, man, and take quick efficient action. Even if he sacrifices many things for it. (Warning. I do not condone any taking of lives, NO ONE has the right to judge whenever a person should live or die.) Prowl reminds me of 秦始皇 (Qin Shi Huang), the king who unified China and sacrificed millions to make the Great Wall, canals, and road systems that last to this day. If it wasn’t for these accomplishments, China wouldn’t have been what it is today. Was it a good thing? For the future residents of China? Hell yeah. But the costs? Those are sins that can never be erased, and they are horrible and shouldn't be done ever again. Was it necessary? Perhaps. But that’s another discussion. Is Prowl evil? Depends on your definition of evil. Perhaps he’s justified, perhaps in his world, he’ll go down as the Qin Shi Huang of the Cybertronians. Regardless, Prowl like Pharma, is an EXCELLENT example to study on public ethics, and administrative officials should analyze him and learn from his mistakes and sins. I think Prowl is not evil in a sense that he wishes to harm others, but evil in a sense of his apathy. Prowl is a necessary component to a functional society (someone to plot, to use people, to enforce rules even if some are sacrificed, someone who can get their hands dirty). He lives a terrible and sad fate, and I do not wish ANYONE to live a life like Prowl’s or look up to Prowl. Yes, he’s so clever and brilliant, but that kind of power will make you the loneliest person on Earth.

Thanks Prowl for taking the entire load of sin on your shoulders! Big MVP! You get nothing from the world except hate and contempt. I would go on about him more but I have IRL stuff to do. I love Prowl as an example to tell people that MODERATION. COMMUNICATION. AND COMPASSION are important factors to have a healthy and good mental state. Prowl is the perfect example of someone who doesn’t want to empathize (haha so many people are like this today), who doesn’t want to try to use more braincells and friends help to make better plans that are more moderate and not extreme, and who doesn’t want to talk to anyone thinking its a waste of time or have difficulty explaining things. BUT I LOVE G1 PROWL because he has far more patience and manners, and doesn’t take a darker, route for his goals. awhohdohd he’s baby,,, i wish all cops had patience and manners and in general open-minded yet cautious enough not to be taken advantage of,,,, perhaps then we wouldn’t have so much polarization and fighting with authority in this world....

Euphoria girls character analysis: who I liked best, who I related to the most and who I aspire to be.

*DISCLAIMER: Euphoria is a show which deals with real issues such as abuse, sex, drugs, mental health and so on. It contains very graphic and mature scenes, therefore I suggest you don't watch this show if you are under 16 years old or you get triggered easily by the topics mentioned above. This post will contain spoilers. By this post I don't want, by any means, to glamorize, romanticize, normalize or glorify any of the character's situation or behaviour. This is purely my opinion and nothing more than that.*

♡Cassie: I know many people dislike Cassie and I totally get why, as there are many flaws in her character, but I still genuinely enjoyed her. She has a pretty tragic story; she hasn't seen her father in years and her mother is an alcoholic. Because of the absence of a father figure in her life, Cassie tends to fall in love with every guy she hooks up with; unfortunately, most of them don't want anything but sex from her and don't actually want to date her. Most people see her as a slut due to her reputation and she constantly gets objectified and sexualized by the men around her. On top of that, she never managed to achieve her biggest dream: becoming an ice-skater, as her father couldn't afford her lessons. I related a lot to ger character, as we both have self-esteem issues and we are always looking for validation from other people (something I've been working to improve lately). She definitely is a very flawed character, but she has been through a lot and I'm looking forward to her development in season 2!

♡Lexi: I really, really liked her! She is such a sweet and forgiving person and I'm really sad the producers didn't give her more screen-time! Although she doesn't have any major development or importance in the story, I managed to relate a lot to her, as we are both a little shy and awkward when it comes to meeting new people (I have no problem interacting with people I already know, and I can actually be very talkative.) I hope she receives a storyline or her own, maybe involving some romance in season 2!

♡Maddy: Oh boy, I really hate to love her character, but I can't help it! She is good-looking and she knows it, she can charm absolutely any guy into hooking up with her and she mainly focuses on the wild, unpredictable side of life and she always is the life of the party. She doesn't really focus on her future, which I personally think is an issue, as she doesn't have any interests and/or talents, so this is not beneficial for her at all! I also think she is very immature for trying to get back at Nate, despite acknowledging the fact that he is abusive towards her. I also tend to believe that she is slightly selfish (I'm all for being self-preserved and confident, but let's be fair, she didn't care much about her friends' lives), so I totally get why Kat roasted her towards the finale. In spite of all of her flaws, I still appreciate her glamour and sense of style and make-up and I totally aspire to having her confidence one day!

♡Jules: I don't really know where to begin with her character. She was my favourite character in the beginning, but all of the likeability I had her for her went down the toilet in the last two episodes of the series. So, let's start off with the good stuff. First of all, she is one of the most unique characters I've ever seen; from the way she dresses and does her make-up to her overall attitude. Yeah, I know many people might say that she is the embodyment of the manic pixie dream girl, but I personally think that there is so much more to her than just that. Second of all, she has a big heart and I tend to believe that she ignores the duties she has towards her own persona, in order to help others. She knows what suffering looks like; she was thrown into a mental asylum by her own mother when she was 11 and has sex with older men she meets via the Internet every night, putting herself in multiple dangerous situations throughout the season. Unfortunately, what truly made me lose respect for her in the last 2 episodes is the fact that she treats her romantic relationship with Rue in a very superficial manner and even calmly admits to cheating on her while she was visiting her friend. I'm 50/50 about their relationship at the moment; on one hand, they are absolutely adorable together, not to mention that Rue gives up doing drugs because she didn't want to lose Jules; on the other hand, there is too much toxicity coming from Jules and it really,really hurts me. I genuienly hope that she will get her shit together, and eventually get back with Rue in season 2!

♡Kat: Kat is a queen. Period.

Now seriously, she started out as this quirky, nerdy girl who was anonymously famous on the Internet for writing gay 1D fanfiction, though no one really knew her in real life. It's pretty crystal clear from the beggining of the show that her deepest struggle in life is her weight, which she has been bullied for for several years;not only by her classmates, but also indirectly by the principal. I feel like most of her character development is based off of that; but what I truly appreciate about it is the fact that we don't actually see her losing any weight, rather we watch her grow more and more confident in her own body as the series progresses. I think is important to mention, though, that the methods she uses to make herself more confident are not always healthy (she uploads videos of herself on porn sites, videochats and she always seeks for male approval in real life.) She definitely is a very flawed character-but let's be fair, who isn't in this series? (I think it's perfectly fine to like a fucked up character and even "borrow" traits from them, as long as you are aware that certain aspects of their behaviour are not normal.) To sum it up, I love her character growth, as well as overall vibe, and I can't begin to explain how happy I was when she finally kissed that guy from the carnival at prom(I can't remember his name lmao.) Kat deserves the world and more and that's that!

♡Rue: She is, for sure, my favourite character on the show. She is a recovering drug adduct who suffers from general anxiety, OCD, borderline personality disorder and bipolarity, ADHD and depression. I can't even begin explaining how much I lived the show through her character (we all know Zendaya is a queen, but this was outstanding)! Honestly, I wish I could write a more in depth analysis of this character, but the love I have for her is absolutely beyond words, so I suggest you go and watch the show and enjoy her yourself. All I have to say for now is that she has a beautiful character growth and I really wish she was my best friend in real life.

Childhood: Cillian had a fairly stable upbringing; his parents in a strong marriage and with an older brother to help teach him the ropes, Cillian did well during his early school years and thrived in all of his subjects.

Adolescence: As he got to high school, he joined the football and soccer teams; being rather sporty as a child meant his fitness was impeccable. When he finished High school, instead of going to college, Cillian got in with the wrong crowd and ended up being arrested for Breaking and Entering and several counts of theft.

Young Adult: Went through Military training then, Cillian’s Regiment was sent to Afghanistan where they served three tours before he was shot in the Line of Duty after going through Hell being tortured with one of his comrades.

Adult: After being medically discharged from the army, Cillian took a year out for convalescence before joining LAPD. Given his history with the army, he soon shot up through the ranks until he became a Detective. He will also play the role of Police Sniper/marksman if they have to go into particularly tough situations that require an overwatch.

Moments/Experiences that shaped them: Getting into the wrong crowd after High school. Being sent into the Army. Being captured and tortured during his final tour in Afghanistan.

How have they changed as a person throughout their life? He has matured a considerable amount and become regimented and organised as an adult, with a respect for the law and bringing justice.
