The Arc Sister Challenge
Jaune: *restrained at the top of an ornate pyramid* I’m sorry, Pyrrha! But for us to date, you have to defeat my seven deadly sisters in combat! No girl has ever succeeded!
Arc Sisters: *wielding various weapons and squaring up for an Arc boss-rush* 👿
Pyrrha: *rolls her shoulders and readies her spear* No challenge too great for my love!
One furious combat gauntlet later…
Pyrrha: *panting and leaning on her spear at the top of the pyramid, almost to her goal* You were formidable opponents…but you won’t stop me from reaching my goal…! 😮💨
Pyrrha: …now, who’s next?
Saphron: *steps forward* Just me…!
Pyrrha: *squares up*
Saphron: *holds up her baby*
Adrian: *baby noises*
Pyrrha: *screeches to a halt* Uh…
Saphron: To defeat me and claim the right to date our brother, you must hold this baby without him crying!
Pyrrha: *awkwardly holds out her hands* Um…all right…?
Adrian: *becoming fussy in Pyrrha’s arms* 😢
Pyrrha: 😨
Jaune: *manages to break free* Pyrrha! Quick, use this!
Jaune: *tosses delicious chocolate chip cookie*
Pyrrha: *snatches the cookie out of the air and quickly gives it to Adrian*
Adrian: 😃
Jaune: You did it! 😚
Pyrrha: YES!! *shifts Adrian to her other side and claims her victory kisses from Jaune* 🥰
Saphron: *sinks to her knees in defeat* 😞
Adrian: *enjoying his cookie with absolutely no idea what’s going on* 😋 🍪

It has been 14 hours since I found out that, according to Kubo, Byakuya calls Renji by his given name "because Rukia does" and I am obsessed with this information.
This is both the best and worst possible answer to this question. I feel like if you asked Byakuya, this is exactly the reason he would give. However, if Rukia were present, she would lose her damn mind. While I do think Rukia's assertion that Byakuya didn't look at her even once in 40 years is hyperbole, over that time I can imagine Renji's name coming up in conversation once, maybe twice tops.
Like, two weeks before she goes on her fateful mission to the Living World, B's been shortlisting Vice-Captain candidates, and over dinner, real casual:
B: Rukia. You know your friend?
Rukia: My who now?
B: That friend of yours who shouts too much. The boorishly tall one. With the red hair. Is he in Squad Eleven now?
Rukia (wracking her brain frantically for people Byakuya would consider 'her friend'): You mean Renji?
B: Yes, him.
Rukia: What about him?
B: Is he in Squad Eleven? The Sixth Seat?
Rukia: ...maybe? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The next day, Byakuya's office, Renji shows up for his job interview.
B: You must be Renji.
Renji: uhhhhhhhh sure why not?

just finished www #23: on your way, and i have many thoughts. all of them make me want to cry.
ame knowing as soon as she got back to the cottage that her actions had burned a bridge, not just with the citadel but with one of her best friends, and yet still needing to complete her tasks as the witch of the world's heart. the spirits she awakens so as not to leave the cottage untended or unprotected, and the way she asks and does not take. the note she leaves, should her friends make it there.
eursulon in the fire, followed by the man in black, who is a brother in the way all spirits are brethren, but not the sibling eursulon seeks. leaving through the burrow, fighting monstrosities, and seeing the citadel raze cities to ruin beside a jungle of rot. finding the tree. his tree. the tree that is emblazoned on his shield, his coat of arms, what he fights to protect. and inside... his sister. a family she made for herself.
and suvi. hurt but still afraid that ame will die if she stays. determined to not let that happen. conversations with steel where she says that another wizard said that the wizard sly lied, or did not tell the full truth. commiseration, but suvi holds back the full truth, and suspects steel of doing the same. an airship to fly north. to protect ame, yes. but the mage armor mean that no creature or spirit or witch will ever be able to touch her again. broken trust, if not broken love.
and through it all, the thread that the citadel represents a threat to the world's heart itself, and to all spirits beyond. the council of elders wishes to neutralize that threat. grandmother wren did not.
questions moving forward: what is the true purpose of the war on gaothmai being waged by the empire? why does kalaya's family look like suvi? is suvi going to have a villain arc? i have my theories, but i'll get into those in other posts.
thank you to the worlds beyond number cast and crew for giving us this incredible story. i'm so excited to see where you take us next.
