hey btw. being platonically in love is so real btw. having a silly text convo with your friend and thinking "I love you" with every message. studying together in silence and feeling the most comfortable you've been in years. having a huge cheesy grin on your face after you spend time together, or even just text for a bit. your worries becoming a little easier to bear when they hug you. worrying about them, wishing you could magically give them all the happiness in the world.

being platonically in love is one of my favourite feelings in the world, and you know what? I'm so grateful that being aspec let me experience this in full. I fucking love being on the aromantic spectrum <3

one of my things with love is that i think it's probably like colors. yeah we have a thing that we all sort of agree is red. but we have no way to know if other people see red the same way as us. your red could be totally different from mine and we would never know because it has functionally the same relation to all of us and so we all just call it red. i have no way of knowing if anyone else on earth feels love the exact same way in which i do and in fact i think most people probably don't...

An ace friend of mine has been questioning if they're aro for a bit, and they recently sent me this:

I think I’m aro. But not because I’ve stared at myself and decided that that’s a perfect label that fits and describes me. I think I’m aro because even if I haven’t learned anything about myself, I’m slowly starting to realize that the label can mean a lot of things in a lot of ways, and it’s less a matter of fitting under an umbrella than it is enjoying the lack of rain. And I think I like using the term aromantic to describe myself. So, that’s it. I am aroace. Because I want to be. Not because I understand myself—because that’s an infinity away—but because whatever mess I am, it’s a mess that’s a little bit better with the term applied.

Being on the aro spec is different for each of us.

I love cuddling and touching, and I like to express my feelings in lots of words. I’m very sappy and a little clingy, and physical touch with my bf makes me feel comfortable and relaxed, although I also have my limits and need breaks. I have romantic feelings for my bf because I’m more of a greyromantic. I’m also an aro-ace.

The way you act doesn’t make you more or less aromantic. Everyone is different. The amount of romantic attraction you experience also doesn’t make you more or less valid as an aro. It’s called a spectrum for a reason. Happy aro spec awareness week! You are all valid and amazing!!
