C H A L K Did you know, chalk is white because it is formed from the colourless skeletons of marine plankton? This painting is made from chalk foraged in Meon in Hampshire and sea coal from Kintra beach on Isle of Mull. Both these properties fascinate me and they look so wonderful together too! I recently found out that deep down below Oxford Street, London, there is a huge block of chalk, known as The Chalk Escarpment. It is the single largest geological feature in Britain! What is grounding?⠀ Chances are you have heard someone talking about ‘grounding’ at one point or another. But what does grounding actually mean?⠀ Grounding is a spiritual term, referring to centering your soul in your body, and in turn, connecting it with Mother Earth. When these connections are strong, it can help you feel safer & more in touch with the earth & Mother Nature. If you experience a lot of fear & anxiety in your day-to-day, it is possible that you have become un-grounded.⠀ So what is the best way to ground yourself? It’s quite simple really – & you have choices. The easiest way is to go outside & stand on the grass. (It is recommended that you take your shoes off.)⠀ At this time, in your mind say, “I am connecting & grounding myself to the spirit of the earth now”.⠀ Another great way to ground yourself is to go for a short walk in nature.⠀ You can stand or sit under a large tree & visualize your energy merging with the tree roots. Imagine and feel roots coming out of the soles of your feet & connecting with the roots of the tree and traveling deep into Mother Earth. ⠀ The most common version of this technique will require you to stand with your feet firmly on the ground (where possible in bare feet & on bare earth or grass) you would start by taking a few breaths. Focusing on yourself, then visualizing any residual energy or any influencing energy dissipating through your feet & dispersing harmlessly into the ground. You then visualize energy being drawn up through your body recharging you with positive energy.
