Y'all, Elain is not worth this ship war.
The House of Wind and Az's shadows have more personality, development, and main character energy then she does.
She needs to gain some autonomy and stop mooching off of her sisters before we fight over whose cock she'll be riding.

Azriel Week Day 4
Bat Boys
"As we grew older, and the other males around us did, too, we realized everyone else hated us enough that we had better odds of survival sticking together."
"Even so, the other males knew that we were different. And not because we were two bastards and a half-breed. We were stronger, faster - like the Cauldron knew we'd been set apart and wanted us to find each other."

It absolutely makes my day when I see an Elain stan hate on the IC for "lack of character development".
I hate the IC (excluding Az), but each and every one of them has more character development than Elain.

Symbolism at its finest
"You honestly think he'd ever give up Truth-Teller?”
"He gave it to Elain,” Mor said, admiring a moonstone necklace in the counter's glass case.
“She gave it back," I amended, failing to block out the image of the black blade piercing through the King of Hybern's throat. But Elain had given it back—had pressed it into Azriel's hands after the battle, just as he had pressed it into hers before. And then walked away without looking back.
First, Elain gives TT back to Az. Then, she gives him back the necklace. How many things does she have to give back before people realize that they're just not meant to be? Good riddance.

If Az and Elain were indeed friends then he wouldn't be avoiding her.
Even if he's sexually attracted to her, he wouldn't avoid her if they were friends because that friendship would be more important. He's only avoiding her (and it's easy for him to do so) because there's nothing there beyond lust.

Y'all remember when Feysand first consummated their mating bond and Rhys had to fight Cass to calm down enough not to kill anyone?
My headcanon is that after Gwynriel consummates their mating bond, Az has to fight it out with both Rhys and Cass in order to calm down. But Gwyn sees them ganging up on her mate, and she's like, "Don't you touch my mate!" and she runs over and tackles one of her brother-in-laws.
Az is so stunned, he can't stop laughing. Then he takes Gwyn back to continue consummating their bond.

Say what you will about Az, but this warmed my heart. Az and Nesta have a bond like Cass and Feyre do (and I think like Rhys and Gwyn will have next book).
But then Azriel approached her. Nesta had blinked at the gift the shadowsinger set in her lap. “I didn't get you anything,” she murmured to Az, her cheeks turning rosy.
“I know,” he said, smiling. “I don't mind.”
Cassian tried to focus on the present in his hands—the silver comb and brush set he'd gotten Mor, engraved with her name—but his gaze snagged on Nesta's fingers as she opened the small box. She peered at what was inside, then looked at Azriel in confusion. “What is it?”
Azriel plucked up the small folded silver wand within and unfurled it. One end held a clip, the other a small glass sphere. “You can attach this to whatever book you're reading, and the little ball of faelight will shine. So you don't have to squint when you're reading at night."
Nesta touched the glass ball, no bigger than her thumbnail, and faelight flickered within, casting a bright, easy glow upon her lap. She tapped it again and it turned off. And then she jumped to her feet and flung her arms around Azriel.
The room went silent for a beat.
But Azriel chuckled and squeezed her gently. Cassian smiled to see it - to see them. "Thank you," Nesta said, quickly pulling away to marvel at the device. "It's brilliant."
Azriel blushed and stepped back, shadows swirling.
Be prepared for Az to spend most of ACOTAR 5 blushing. Lol. Especially when Nesta teases him about not being able to keep his eyes off of Gwyn.

You know how Rhys only allowed wing-play with Feyre because she's his mate?
I kind of wonder if it's the same with Az and his shadows. With his other lovers, he could have sent his shadows away or waited until they were asleep. Or his shadows just refused to participate. Lol.
So maybe Gwyn will be the first person he has shadow-play with.

I know this is Lorcan's POV from Empire of Storms, but don't tell me this won't be Az in ACOTAR 5, while staring at Gwyn.
And he'd been so focused on cursing himself for staring at that ripe, sinful mouth while she admitted she was still untouched, that he hadn't detected anything amiss until the screaming started.
No, he'd been too busy contemplating what sounds might come from that full mouth if he slowly, gently, taught her the art of the bedroom.
Tell me this doesn't have Gwynriel vibes.

Good day to remember that Az thinks Gwyn's irreverence is charming

Az would speak when he was ready, and Cassian would have better success convincing a mountain to move than getting Az to open up.
Hmmm. Interesting.
She angled her head, hair shining like molten metal. "Do you sing?"
He blinked. It wasn't every day that people took him by surprise, but..."Why do you ask?"
"They call you shadowsinger. Is it because you sing?"
"I am a shadowsinger - it's not a title that someone just made up."
She shrugged again, irreverently. Az narrowed his eyes, studying her. "Do you, though?" she pressed. "Sing?"
Azriel couldn't help his soft chuckle. "Yes."
Sounds like his mate can get him to open up :)

"He slept as well as could be expected, but when Azriel returned to the river house to gather his presents before dawn, he found Elain's necklace amid the pile. He pocketed it. Spent the rest of his day, even the blasted snowball fight with every intention of returning it to the shop in the Palace of Thread and Jewels."
For someone who's madly in love with Elain, Az sure shows no emotion when she gave him back the necklace.
It's almost as if he stopped lusting after Elain on Solstice night, after something restless settled in him while talking with Gwyn.

Az is the Lorcan of ACOTAR, and you can't convince me otherwise.
You honestly want me to believe that Cass or Rhys aren't going to say something like this to Az in the next book?
The same Lorcan he'd known for centuries, and yet...not. Some hard edge had been dulled - no, soothed.
Elide soothed Lorcan's hard edge and I've already mentioned the similarities between Elide and Gwyn, so Gwyn will be the one to soothe Az's hard edge :)
It ain't going to be Elain or else Az's hard edge would have been slowing soothing since ACOMAF, but instead it's gotten worse.

SJM said she thought it was obvious who the male/female MC's are in ACOTAR 5. And it is.
Gwyn threw Azriel a withering stare as she strode past him. “See you tomorrow, Shadowsinger,” she tossed over a shoulder.
Az stared after her, brows high with amusement. When he turned back, Nesta grinned. “You have no idea what you just started," she said. Az angled his head, hazel eyes narrowing as Gwyn reached the archway.
“Remember how Gwyn was with the ribbon?” Nesta winked and clapped the shadowsinger on the shoulder. “You're the new ribbon, Az."
Keep in mind, this is after Winter Solstice. This is after Gwyn caused something restless to settle in him. This is after Gwyn caused something to spark in Az's chest. This is after he tucked the image of Gwyn down deep, where it glows quietly.
And can we also talk about how Nesta winked at Az? When has Nes ever winked before? She knows what's up and she's totally down with Gwynriel. She'll be matchmaker in the next book, mark my words.
