HYMN TO THE GODDESS SEKHMET-BASTET from the Temple of the Hathor at Dendera. (cfr. Dendera III 184-185)
Sekhmet-Bastet, She Who has Power over the host of beings, Sekhmet the Daughter of the Great God Ra, the Brilliant One, the Powerful One, the Fierce One, the Shining One, the Appeased Lady of Offerings, the Lady of Transformations on the forehead of Ra Who begot Her, the Only Uraeus of many faces Who overthrows or Who gives Life to him who is under Her dominion, Her Divine Emissaries act in accordance with what She says
This is a time for reflection and contemplation of Sekhmet, the fierce Fire Goddess; with prayers that the benevolent face of Bastet will come forth and protect those in need.

Meet The Art Team
Tumblr media
Hello Kinfolks!
I've been really looking forward to this post for a while, and it's now time to unveil the art team I've assembled to put this project together! They're some heavy hitters that y'all ought to recognize, so without further ado let's meet them!
Mx. Morgan (They/Them)
Tumblr media
Tumblr
Mx. Morgan G Robles (they/them) is a freelance artist and illustrator based in Seattle, Washington. Their work is best known for its use of macabre themes, animals, and nature. They use these themes to explore mental illness, gender identity, or simply to make neat skulls.
They're known for producing book covers for several major publishers, and they've been brought in to design our book covers as well. In addition, they've developed a number of inside pieces as well!
Dogblud She/Her
Tumblr media
Tumblr
Dogblud (she/her), is a Midwestern cryptid working as a freelance artist and writer. Her work is near-exclusively sapphic, centering primarily around werewolves, werebeasts, and their strong thematic ties - horrific or otherwise - to all forms of womanhood.
A long-time fan of Werewolf: the Apocalypse, she's joined our team to produce all of the tribe artwork for the book, in addition to a number of other contributory pieces!
Meka (Any Pronouns)
Tumblr media
Tumblr
Meka is a Scottish comic artist with a flair for the dark and extremely bloody and a long-standing love of monsters and what they let us all explore-- for better and worse. Vehemently underground, they build stories about horror, grief, depersonalisation, and the isolation that comes with being just a little too weird and too angry to swallow whole. Art and catharsis go hand in hand, as far as she’s concerned.
In a throwback to the original game series, Meka has joined to produce a 22-page fully illustrated comic for the series entitled Cracking the Bone. A postgraduate in traditional comic artistry, we're extremely fortunate to have them on the team.
M.WolfhideWinter (He/Him)
Tumblr media
Tumblr
He is a part-time freelance illustrator from Scotland. His work is heavily inspired by the rugged terrain (and rain) of Scotland with a focus on werewolves inhabiting the wild landscapes both past and present. He explores themes of mental illness, societal stigma, dark folklore, and sad werewolves in the rain.
WolfhideWinter has joined our team as our monster-maker, dedicating their time towards depicting our primary antagonists of the garou: The Black Spiral Dancers, and the Wyrm's brood! We can hardly think of a body horror artist more fitting for the role.
----
As a final addendum, we have an additional writer that's joined the team at the last minute.
J.F. Sambrano (They/He)
Patreon
J. F. Sambrano is an author of horror and (urban/dark/depressing?) fantasy and an advocate for indigenous rights. He lives in Washington (the state) and is originally from Los Angeles (the city); the differences are staggering but the ocean and the I-5 are the same. He is Chiricahua Apache (Ndeh) and Cora Indian (Náayarite). He may or may not be a believer/practitioner of real world magic. If he were, he would not be interested in your hippy-dippy, crystal swinging, dream-catcher slinging garbage. But magic is real, let’s not fuck around.
Beloved Indigenous World of Darkness author J.F. Sambrano is joining our team to depict the Bastet in the Dawn Tribes! A friend and frequent topic of discussion on this blog, we are honored to have him on the team to bring the Werewolf: the Apocalypse he's long-felt the world deserves to life!

Bast Deity Guide
Tumblr media
Who is Bast?
The Egyptian goddess is known by many as Bastet, her name is transliterated as b-ꜣ-s-t-t and is pronounced as “Bast”. The Hieroglyphs for her name look something like this: 𓎯𓏏𓏏𓁐 or 𓎯𓏏𓏏
She is most notably a goddess of domesticity, the home, cats, and women. Bast was among the most popular Egyptian deities and her cult ran as far as Rome.
Originally she was depicted as a goddess with a lioness’ head instead of a cat, and she was closely related to Sekhmet, the warrior goddess. Bast’s role was that of protector and avenger of Ra Over time Bast’s depiction softened and she became a goddess related to domesticity and the home. However, she kept the ferocious side of her, only ever using it when needed. She was known to be loving and nurturing but also she was a force to be reckoned with. Bastet used this fury to avenge those who have been wronged, carried on through her son, Maahes, the protector of the innocent.
Due to her association as the Eye of Ra, Bast was more of a solar deity before she became conflated with the Greek Artemis.
Parents and Siblings
Ra (father)
Isis (mother, later in antiquity)
Horus (brother, twin brother later in antiquity)
Anhur (brother
Lovers or Partners
Ptah
Children
Maahes (son)
Nefertum (son, sometimes)
Epithets
Beautiful sistrum (rattle) player
The Golden One/The Beautiful One
The Lady of Dread
The Lady of Slaughter
The Eye of Ra - a title held by a group of deities.
Lady of the Ointments
Lady of the East
Goddess of the Rising Sun
Sacred and All Seeing Eye
Notes
Her name also is rendered as B'sst, Baast, Ubaste, and Baset
Though sometimes synchronized with Mut, the goddess Bast was never depicted as fully human. She was always depicted as either a cat or a woman with the head of a cat, lion, or desert cat.
In Ancient Greece, she was known as Ailuros (”cat”) and she was likened to Artemis. Because of this association, she was given a twin brother just like Artemis has: Horus became her twin brother and since Horus is Isis’ son, Bast became Isis’ daughter.
Bast was also synchronized with Sekhmet, Hathor, and Isis and picked up some of their associations throughout time.
The meaning of her name is uncertain though it’s possible that her name meant She of the Ointment Jar (Ubaste). This would also point to her relation to perfume.
The central city of her cult was Bubastis. People would travel to this city to have the bodies of their pet cats who have passed buried.
It’s common for people to view Bast as a sexual deity or a goddess of lust, but she tends to lean more toward domesticity and protection. This misunderstanding likely came from her later conflation with Hathor as well as one account from Herodotus who had observed the festival in Bubastis in honor of Bast.
An annual festival was held at Bubastis where supposedly all constraints on women were released and they would celebrate “by drinking, dancing, making music, and displaying their genitals" (Gerald Pincher, quoting Herodotus). This display depicted the fertility aspect of the goddess as well as being a sign of freedom from societal constraints.
Bast has been depicted holding a sistrum, a musical instrument similar to a rattle.
Bast is one of many gods who are referred to as the “Eye of Ra”, a title that belongs to deities that are protectors or avengers.
She has been known as the protector of the dead as well.
As cats were sacred to this goddess, to harm one was seen as a slight to Bast.
Mummified cats were often delivered to Bast’s temple as an offering.

Worshipping With Limited Space/Materials/Time/Etc.
One of my close friends has been asking me how to worship deities with limited space/privacy/materials/etc, so here it is. A guide on worshipping without space.
See @catnip-reed for my religious blog if you want.
Altars
There are many ways to have a small/discreet altar. Some people (including me) even make them online.
Travel Altars: a small altar (usually in a small box or tin can) made for traveling; usually includes a tealight candle, crystals, herbs, coins, and photos.
Discreet Altars: a collection of objects that doesn’t look like an altar but functions as one; usually includes decorations, colors, etc. that don’t directly point to it being an altar but still hold symbols of the deity (i.e. coquette decor for Aphrodite, cat-focused decor for Bastet, etc.)
Candles: literally just a candle; used to focus energy, sometimes contains herbs or crystals inside
Shoebox Altars: a shoebox filled with permanent offerings, statues or photos, candles, and other things commonly placed on an altar; usually stored away until needed
A Binder: a binder filled with art, poems, prayers, information, etc; can also be a notebook or deity journal (see my post about deity journals here)
Bags: bags or satchels of things related to the deity (i.e. coins, herbs, photos, etc.); can be emptied to set up a temporary altar or held when praying/offering/etc.
Books: a collection of books devoted to them; can be books related to their domains or books that remind you of them; used as an offering (reading) or communication (annotation)
Temporary Altars: altars that can be set up and taken down with ease; most commonly includes a small offering plate, a small cup, and sometimes candles, statues, or photos
Photos: a photo collage online or physical containing photos of the Gods and/or their domains; my favorite way to display these is as phone/computer backgrounds or on bulletin boards (similar to a vision board)
Pinterest: pinterest boards; a collage of pins of the Gods, their domains, and things that remind you of them
Tumblr: tumblr sideblogs; reblogging or posting things like quotes, photos, ideas, etc. that remind you of them
All in all, altars really are just a way for you to focus on your deity. In some religions, altars are a designated space for offerings. Depending on how you view them, you can make anything into an altar.
Divination
Some people like to use communication methods like tarot, runes, etc. to talk with their deities. For those who can’t openly own/use them or can’t afford them, here are some alternatives.
Lenormand Cards Website
Labyrinthos Tarot App
The Fool’s Dog Tarot App
Golden Thread Tarot App
The Classic 1910 Tarot App
A List of Oracle Card Apps
Cartomancy: using playing cards to divine
Astragalomancy: using dice to divine
Coins: flipping a coin to get a yes/no answer; there are other coin divination methods but many are closed
Bibliomancy: using books to divine; either a book falls on a specific page and you choose a random sentence or you choose a book, flip to a random page, and find a random sentence
Aeromancy: using weather to divine
Pyromancy: using flames from a candle/bonfire/etc. to divine
Capnomancy: using smoke to divine
Offerings
Offerings! One of my favorite things about my worship. Offerings are basically bribes so that your deities like you more /s. But seriously, offerings bring you closer to your deity.
Water: a simple cup of water; can be drank or left out for them
Food: either portions of your meal or food made for them; can be eaten or left out for them
Other Drinks: cups of other drinks; can be drank or left out for them; most commonly milk, alcohol, coffee, or tea
Candles & Incense: candles or incense devoted to them; can be lit or just kept in honor of them
Flowers: bouquets or single flowers; can be bought from stores or found outside (i.e. dandelions)
Honey: doesn’t have to be ethically sourced; can be added to teas and other drinks
Art: your own art or the art of others; includes music, playlists, digital art, poetry, drawings, paintings, instruments, etc.
Coins: many deities enjoy coins as offerings; can be offered to wealth/luck deities or can be offered to a deity because of the image (i.e. a coin with a sun on it can be offered to Apollon)
Devotional Acts
The only thing I love more than offerings. Also used to get closer to deities. Offerings of actions instead of physical things.
Donating: donating to organizations related to your deity (i.e. health organizations for Apollon)
Volunteering: volunteering at places related to your deity (i.e. dog shelters for Ares)
Practicing Good Hygiene: showering, washing your face, brushing your teeth and/or hair, etc.
Self-Care: ritual baths, face masks, relaxing, doing a hobby, etc; anything that makes you happy can be dedicated to a deity
Going Outside: taking a walk or sitting outside; some people make outside altars for some nature deities
Sunbathing/Cloudwatching/Starwatching: sunbathing for deities associated with the sun, cloudwatching for deities associated with the sky/weather, and starwatching for deities associated with the night/stars/planets; if the deity does not have a domain in one of these do whichever makes you happy
Cleaning: keeping your space and any altar/religious space you have clean and free of dust
Research: learning new things about your deity
Browsing Social Media: browsing a tag/account/etc. dedicated to your deity
Sharing: telling people about your deity
Learning Language: learning the language of your pantheon (i.e. greek for hellenism, italian for roman polytheism, etc.)
Conclusion
You do not need big, elaborate altars to worship. You do not need scheduled offerings, or even any offerings at all. You do not need to use tarot or runes to communicate with your deities. The only requirements for worshipping a deity is wanting to worship them and stating that you are worshipping them. To build from there, you begin building a relationship with them. Offerings and altars may help you do that, but they are not required. The Gods will understand if you do not have the space/time/materials/etc. to worship them how you would like or how others do. The Gods will understand if you do not want an elaborate practice. They will understand.

You know what they should have done in YuGiOh? You know what would have made a cool antagonist/monster?
This piece of work ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Tumblr media
Apep (aka Apophis)
(aka Apophis) was a monstrous snake from Egyptian mythology. It’s not clear, but it seems like Apep has existed for, well, eternity. He was born from either goddess Neith’s saliva or Ra’s umbilical cord (no seriously). He’s just about always a snake (a creature normally respected and even admired in Egyptian lore, but not in this case…) and a big one. I mean, huge. Accounts vary, but he’s been described as reaching 16-120 yards in length (48-360 feet). Either way, he was a unit.
Egyptian mythology is fairly grey when it comes to good and evil, but when it comes to Apep…yeah no, they make it crystal clear that m*therf*cker was evil incarnate and every one feared and hated him. Saying his name alone was cursed, like Voldemort.
And for good reason, because Apep was a damn beast. Even the gods were nervous about him.
He created storms, earthquakes, and eclipses with his roar or just by moving. He could hypnotize people, mortals and gods alike, and he devoured souls, living and dead. The worst part of that, though, was that the souls would not die. Instead, they would be trapped in an endless void of darkness that was basically a hellish limbo. But, most of all, his favorite thing to do was pick fights with the sun god Ra and eat him alive. He would literally swallow the sun whole.
Yeah, that’s what he did. He would come after Ra, the god of the sun and king of the heavens, and they would do battle. Apep’s main goal was always to devour the sun, destroy Ra, and plunge the world into darkness and chaos. Sometimes, he would succeed in swallowing Ra, and it would take all the gods joining forces to free him from the snake’s belly. As a matter of fact, even Set—the literal god of chaos, an Egyptian Loki—would join in. Hell, it’s even said he stabbed Apep with a spear. Seriously. That’s how bad Apep was.
Priests would hold rituals every year to ward off Apep and the rituals consisted of going ham on a picture/sculpture of him. There was even a whole guide called “The Books of Overthrowing Apep”. Apep was essentially invincible, he could not be killed, even by the gods. All they could do was cut him to pieces and cast him into the underworld. But he would always come back sooner or later.
Apep was a bad, bad SOB.
So I’m thinking, how the hell did they not so much as mention him in Yu-Gi-Oh!?
He’s perfect! He’s a primordial kaiju that embodies chaos and eats gods like fruit snacks. Like, screw the Leviathan or Zorc, look at this guy. He makes the Leviathan from the DOMA arc look like a baby. Zorc is darkness incarnate? Bitch, Apep is right there. That job is already taken. Also, keep in mind that Ra was the first pharaoh, the forefather of all pharaohs. About every pharaoh in history was associated with the sun and Ra. Atem/Yami Yugi was destined to encounter Apep at some point.
I seriously wish there was an arc including Apep. Hell, I would sell my kidney to replace the goddamn Waking the Dragons arc with a different arc on Apep (in case you didn’t know, I don’t care for the DOMA arc).
Please tell me I’m not alone on this.
Tumblr media
*bonus
Sometimes Ra (or Bastet or Hathor) would transform into a cat to fight Apep and it was shown in hieroglyphs. Here’s one of them.
Tumblr media
I just think that’s neat

war deities - sekhmet
Tumblr media
sekhmet: egyptian goddess of war, healing, chaos, the desert sun, & plague
"so ra brought forth the goddess sekhmet, the destroyer." - carlos museum of emory university
crossing sekhmet was something that was literally a life or death manner. she was created to punish those disobedient to her father, ra. outside of her infamous wrath, she was a deeply loved goddess who had a protective aura and provided healing to her followers.
being one of many deities who protected the ancient pharaohs, it wasn't sekhmet's only job. many egyptian gods had dualities, as seen above. additionally, egyptian gods were typically depicted in triads or groups. the main group sekhmet is linked with is the eye of ra. this group consists of sekhmet, hathor, bastet, mut, & uadyet. she also has connections to pakhet, mehit, wadjet, & isis as well.
sekhmet's creation
as ra aged and his creation days were mostly over, mankind began worshipping apophis, the spirit of evil. furious with mankind for not obeying his laws or preserving ma'at, ra, the sun god, took out his eye and placed it on earth. after placing her on the earth, ra named her sekhmet the destroyer.
once she was set loose to punish those who had turned their backs on ra, it was an absolute massacre. after devouring the followers of apophis, sekhmet turned on those who hadn't betrayed ra and began killing them as well. one version of this myth says ra felt regret for what he had done, and ordered her to stop - but sekhmet was too far gone into her bloodlust. in an attempt to get sekhmet to stop her rage, he poured seven thousand jugs of beer mixed with pomegranate juice into her path. the pomegranate juice dyed the beer red, disguising it as blood. upon seeing the liquid, sekhmet went towards it and drank so much of it she became intoxicated and slept for three days. after waking up, not only was humanity saved, but she saw -and fell in love with- ptah.
another version of this myth says that ra met with all the gods to discuss what he should do upon discovering mankind worshipping apophis. nun, the father of ra, said he should create a spirit to kill only those who worship apophis. he agreed, and created sekhmet to punish his disloyal followers. sekhmet began her killing spree on worshippers of apophis, but it wasn't long before she turned her attention to people outside of those she had been sent to punish. the remaining people who hadn't begun worshipping apophis cried out to ra for protection and help. ra, moved by the cries of his people, dumped a mixture of beer that had been dyed with red ochre into either the fields or the river outside of where sekhmet was staying. lured by the "bloody" scene, sekhmet greedily lapped it up and became drunk. ra approached sekhmet and informed her that she no longer needed to be the destroyer, she would instead become the goddess of love - hathor. ra informed her she'd still have the same amount of power as she had now, but it would no longer be used for hate and destruction.

I am not really religious anymore, but a few days ago Hygeia reached out, much like Bastet did randomly when I needed her help with my cats. And I didn’t even know I would need it.
Hygeia has helped me so much. She got me through my IUD insertion last week and when my depression and health wasn’t as bad yesterday, she got me to deep clean my room. She was super excited lol. Told me it needed to be done because I could get more sick than usual if I don’t keep it clean and vacuum.
A few days ago I wanted to get some white wine for her, but I have no way to get to the liquor store. Sooo she told me she would still love to have this white wine vinegar stuff that’s on Amazon. So that’s good!
I put it with my statue of Bastet and my crystals and such. It’s a glass bottle which I didn’t know! I have other witchy stuff in my room (sprays, eggshells, lamp) but I figured it looked better there.
Yay!

What are your thoughts on Bastet and Motsuki?
Oh my gosh they're my favorites I love them so much let me tell you about my headcannons for them.
Tumblr media
Bastet:
Pronouns: She/they
She gets into a polyamorous relationship with Catboy and Owlette when they're teens.
They're definitely autistic.
Bastet couldn’t read languages besides ancient Egyptian and Arabic very well if at all when she first encountered the PJs.  She loved(and still loves) comics because she could actually somewhat understand what was happening, so she’d often borrow some of Icecub’s.
Bastet, Lilifee, and Icecub bond over comics and have long conversations about them.
Owlette taught them to read English.
Once she discovered the Warriorcats audio books, she became obsessed with Warriors. She managed to get Catboy to read the books so he could actually understand what she was rambling about.
An Yu and Bastet hang out and listen to each other ramble on about various different topics they're very passionate about.
Bastet and Luna don't like each other, especially at first, and only sort of tolerate each other for Owlette's sake.
Bastet is the PJ's age; they've been unconscious between their time and now.
Bastet being unconscious for all those years messed with her sense of time and caused her to have a bit of a fuzzy memory in regards to everyday events and lengths of time.
They can purr like a cat but reserves it for people they really like.
She hates water but was taught the basics of swimming.
They sometimes focus so hard on one thing that they end up losing awareness about their surroundings.
She would absolutely kill someone if she had to.
Tumblr media
Motsuki:
Pronouns: She(preferred)/he/it
She becomes best friends with Munki-Gu and Orticia, and she eventually dates Orticia when they're teens.
He's also autistic.
She can fly faster than Owlette, which surprised literally everyone.
Her crystal is heavily tied to her emotions. So when she feels big emotions, it gives her a burst of energy.
The season 5 Luna and Motsuki splitting up moon plot thing was a series of bad dreams Motsuki kept having. The last 5 minutes of Luna's Moon Attack was the final dream in the sequence after she told Luna about her fears.
Motsuki is ridiculously good at both imitating voices and copying others.
Motsuki is a vegetarian(his sister on the other hand is very much not).
It's favorite PJ Mask is Owlette.

You chose the body you have down to its specifics for a reason. The self care you need is individual to that body, but it is designed to compliment the goals you have in mind. It is designed to work with certain groups when needed and alone when needed. Sone of you more specifically are going through a phase where you are alone more than usual or going through bouts of loneliness or a dark phase (it may be very cold where you are). You may need more rest at this time, but remember wolves still know how to be active in the winter. Conserve your energy wisely. It's a semi hibernation vs fully hibernating. Some of you may feel better with dogs around you. Some of you are cold resistant or prefer the winter. A wolf may be your spirit guide.
Don't attack your body's design. It was made a certain way to achieve certain goals. Rest and reflect on the why. Don't compare your design to anothers. You are on your own route

The struggles you are going through are exposing the gifts you have. I don't think some of you are or were not aware of the full range of the gifts and skills you had until recently. Some of you are more adaptable than you think. Some of you had to have an identity change to find new talents, passions, and skills. There can be a lot of confusion when the shifts occur. Give it time to settle so you can observe what the new changes are. Don't make assumptions about who you are too quickly. Some of you can shape shift to adopt the style of a specific animal. You may have more than one animal guide. One is significant enough at this time for you to observe and learn from. You may find you are very animal like in behavior or very animal friendly. This can help you cope with your current lessons.
Embrace the shape shifting skill. It's apart of your growth and how you learn what talents you have. Some (not all) of you may relate to the "jack of all trades".

Spiritual growth is happening. Spiritual awakenings incoming. Some of you are profoundly gifted intuitives, psychics, healers, energy workers, magick practioners. Some of you may find you have a strong interest in studying how to train your gifts or look into your ancestry on who practiced what in the spirituality. You may have a past life as a priestess/priest. Strong foresight and intuition. Several clairs. May want to work with tools. Pay attention to your dreams. You need to put your skills into daily training/practice. Some of you may have cats for a spirit guide or may be drawn to cats. You may be drawn to egyptian mythology (check out Bast/Bastet), Atlantis (drawn to the water element and/or crystals), or being a sirian starseed (feeling Alien like compared to your peers). Very wise. Spiritually older than you appear. Good advisor.
You are wanted and need on this planet. Despite people being weird about this stuff, do it anyway.
