My brain has the consistency of jelly, runs on less energy than light bulb, it's full of error's and it's so easy to manipulate and control that even cats and baby's can do it
My lungs like oxigen which causes oxidation and it's one of the 3 things necessary to burn shit up
My bones are weird as a concept and are also constantly wet and depending on the medicine I took throughout my life they might not even be white anymore
My muscles are basically masoquists and are pretty dammed inefficient in holding something for long periods of time
Our extremities are weirdly long for our size and I don't like that
Our blood is red, that's pretty fucking weird, and it's a liquid made to transport gases which sounds dumb and inefficient, like, why not send them as a gas directly?
Organs are also weird, weird and incredible specialized lumps of meat not properly attached to the rest of the body and some of them almost look like they are sentient in the way they regenerate if cut and we can also live without most of them
The function of a heart could be replaced with a hand constantly squishing it and I don't like that
Fingers are weird in a similar way to limbs but multiple times worse and they have too many bones and muscles
Tongues. I don't think I need to go into detail with this one
Hair and nails are basically dead/inanimate matter that grows out of holes on our skin and that creeps me out a lot
Skin is kinda alright but it has pores ( I won't talk about pores) and it's not properly attached either which is weird.
Belly button. It scares me and creeps me out because it feels like it will open up at any moment. No more will be said
Feets look weird. Thats it, they are fine
Eyes are balls of extremely specialized meat that can detect light of all things but only some of it and ours are pretty bad in the animal kingdom
Butts: humans have the biggest butts of the animal kingdom thanks to our bipedal way of walking. I like them 👍
Boobs are Okey and I like them but the nipples (especially male nipples) make me uncomfortable
Ears look funny but that's it. Being able to detect the vibrations of the air sounds useless but it's pretty neat
Thigh's. I like them. Wanna bite them.
Teeth. I don't like them but they let me bite stuff so they get a pass
Neck's are weird, why do we need to separe our heads from our torso? Its feels like a weak point (and It is one). Wanna bite them too
Hormone's and shit like that is weird, I don't want some inanimate molecule to have any sort of control over me whatsoever and it feels like someone needs to teach them about consent
Puberty is also a wild concept and I don't know about any other species that has one as pronounced as humans. Why aren't we born as adults directly? Seems more effective (and it's still less weird than marsupials)
Saliva is technically an acid I think and that's pretty neat because I can also spit it out of my body if needed. I want you to take that as a warning and a threat
Cells are weird. I don't like that I can be divided into parts that small. I want infinite density so that I can't be divided into components, because that's weird
That's it I think. Those are my thoughts about the human body.
Now go drink water, because even if our bodies are weird we still need them and should appreciate these weird, meat, carbon-based, maquines that house our consciousness

Apparently if you find a tagged Horseshoe crab and report it to Fish and Wildlife they’ll send you a certificate with info about your crab AND a pewter horseshoe crab pin! Keep your eyes peeled 👀

Found this with no context on my phone
Tumblr media
Just "photo taken on April 19, 2022 at 8:22 PM." No clues from any of the surrounding pictures. The previous one is me documenting the existence of my grandfather's stuffed pheasant before we get rid of it when we move and the one after it is a 13 second clip of me dumping a bag down our apartment's trash-chute and listening to it fall down all eight floors into the basement.
So I text the number and...
IT WORKED I GOT A SQUID FACT
Tumblr media
This made my 3-in-the-morning, thank you Squid Fact Hotline, I didn't actually know that second fact about how tiny pygmy squids are.

Cephalopod lovers, meet the stubby bobtail (Rossia pacifica)! With a mantle length of only up to 2 in (5 cm), this tiny critter typically spends its days buried beneath the sand, emerging at night to feed. Shrimp comprise nearly 80% of this species’ diet, but it also preys on small fishes and even other cephalopods. It can be found in coastal waters from Japan to California.

Sometimes, precious little need be said. Today is just one of those times. Because today, we celebrate the tardigrade: dinkiest water bear of the oceans, the mountains, and deepest darkest space.

Acclimation is actually an insane thing that our bodies do and its amazing how rapidly we adjust to a new environment.
It's like "Oh you wanna live in a place where the average temperature is literally 10 TIMES hotter than we're used to with almost 100% humidity so sweat isn't as effective? Ok give me a few days to adjust than we're good just some more sweat as we get used to it"
"What the fuck you wanna move to a place that's THOUSANDS OF FEET up in the air? A place without enough OXYGEN for you to function fuck...Ok give me a few days to MAKE MORE BLOOD AND MAKE YOUR HEART BIGGER then you'll be alright."
On a generational basis it's even funnier cause within a few dozen generations we can actually adapt to like any environment. People from Africa and Aboriginals are usually darker because Melanin acts as sunscreen in a place where they get too much sun and during a time where people didn't wear many clothes or have indoor shelters like today.
But as humans migrated north to latitudes where the Sun isn't constantly raining down an endless beam of death and cancer and started to wear more clothes due to it being colder they started lacking in Vitamin D and that leads to a whole HOST of other health issues related to births, cancers and other shit so we started lessening the pigment in our Skin in order to get as much Vitamin D that we can. This happened within a few generations as far as we're aware and like this shit is happening on a SUPER Fast biological scale.
For a kinda poor metaphor, the rate at which humans adapt to massively different environments to best live in is like how Speed runners can complete OOT within like 5 minutes compared to the 27 hours it takes to beat casually Edit:So apparently I am a dumbass when it comes to tempreture as the way we measure tempreture is not in fact liniar and is more logrimtic in nature than I was led to belive by math. There isn't a 10X increase in tempreture. But still you can go from living in Norway in the Winter to the Tropics/Sahara in a short period of time and our bodies adapt concerningly fast

can you do one about vampire squids ? 🦑
Tumblr media
Vampyroteuthis infernalis or Vampire Squid
It's (very dramatic) scientific name means "vampire squid from hell". However, the vampire squid is not actually a squid! It's actually the only animal in the Vampyroteuthidae family! It's separated into its own family because it can't change color or produce ink. Instead, it turns itself "inside out" (as shown above) to deter predators.
Tumblr media
Proportionally, vampire squids also have the largest eyes compared to their body size! They eat mostly zooplankton, marine snow, and other organisms waste. They grow to be about the size of a football and live to be around 8 years old.
Tumblr media
There's even evidence that vampire squids have been around since the Jurassic period- almost 200 million years ago!

I think it’s cool that whale fall is a special term for a corpse. When we see roadkill we don’t call it “skunk fall”. There is a special kind of reverence in the surge of life that occurs after the death of a whale. I wonder if deep sea creatures, hidden from the warm touch of sunlight, are honoured to be able to feast on the rotting flesh of a fallen god
