#bnha main 3 trio

Reading your posts is the only source for me to be updated with the manga for 2-3 chapters now, seriously.
Quick question, do you by any chance have more asks the last months than before?
Because honestly what's been goin on in the manga is beyond words for me right now.
How can you sh*t out a character like bakugou and shove him down the throat of your audience in the most stupid ways? I honestly cannot wrap my head around it anymore.
I'm still interested in the Kurogiri plotline. I'm also a big Present Mic stan, so I'm trying to hold out....but since bakuhoe got the main character treatment again, i refuse to read another chapter as a whole until the rooftop trio appears again.
Have u been reading the BNHA Vigilante manga? What are your thoughts on it?
Thanks for your cozy tumblr lounge, it's much appreciated!
I’d say since Katsuki’s apology this account has gotten more popular 😂. The final arc was the final shit nugget to a cake made of shit and with this ending doing nearly everything wrong, more people have complaints they wanna air out.
Present Mic’s a dope character and I’m a bit interested in where Kurogiri’s plot’s gonna go.
Vigilantes does have a few issues, but as a whole, it’s far better than MHA. It’s the best way to experience any form of MHA that is canon.
I’m glad you guys enjoy my posts 😊. It means I’m doing my job well.

Is it true that at the beginning of the bnha manga horikoshi wasnt planning to make shoto an important character but since many people liked his design he decided to make him what he is today?? I read it somewhere and tbh its not been so long since i got interested in my hero so idk
This is MISINFORMATION spread by people who are resentful that Uraraka and Iida didn't become the "main trio".
The fact is that Shouto was one of the first characters Horikoshi came up with (after Deku, Bakugou and Ochako) - he says it in this Character sheet from Volume 2.
Tumblr media
He also says that there is a lot to him that isn't revealed yet, which means his Sport Festival arc was already planned from the start
Shouto is on the Vol 3 cover (before Uraraka or Iida make it to a vol cover).
In Ch. 18, he's already one of the three students with Bakugou and Deku who help All Might in USJ (Kirishima is there too, but he doesn't get to help directly), which then ties into their three-way rivalry in the Sport Festival arc.
He's the 2nd character to get an origin chapter (at Ch 39 - even before Bakugou got his)
You may have heard people say things like "Shouto was switched into the Stain arc because he was popular) - but this is honestly nonsense. If you look at the themes of the arc, how Shouto and Iida's arcs parallel/foil each other, how Deku helps him use his fire which in turn is used to save Iida, or how Dabi is introduced at the end of the Stain arc- it becomes crystal clear that the set-up was always for Shouto to be there.

An Ideal Ending For Bnha
Tumblr media
I would like to talk about what can/SHOULD happen at the end of Bnha as good and realistic happy ending. By ending, i mean what should happen to villains and society at the end.
Since Bnha is a positive story about change, we know things has to change. Killing villains or locking them up forever (Tartarus) is not solution. Society should focus on rehabiltion of these villains. So how to do that? Lets get into it.
Tumblr media
In-Prison Rehabilitation Programs
Rehabilitation does not have to begin once an offender is released from prison. Most prisons now offer at least some programs that are designed to help inmates more easily adjust to conditions outside of prison once they are released. These programs are often aimed at helping offenders acquire job skills, overcome substance abuse problems, or learn how to deal with common challenges they may face upon release. Some in-prison programs include:
Adult education courses
Religious services
Mental and physical health programs
Language courses
Job skills workshops
Source
Before i get into this rehabilitation part, i would focus on league of villains (especially main villain trio) to explain this.
Tumblr media
I think league of villains at the end should live in some kind of mental institute. The reason is well they clearly need mental and psychical help with their quirk. Society is own to them since they are victims of society, thats why society has to help them but at the same time, they did many violent things so leaving them free doesnt make sense. But locking them doesnt work either so i would say best option is social works. Forcing villains or the ones who want to rehabilitate should clean the messy they made.
This is good solution because
1- This means less work for heroes and other people
2- Consequences
3- Help them to learning good things, especially with their quirk, it would be very helpfull.
Tumblr media
But of course, society wouldnt trust villains to do job by leaving them alone. And lets remember; it is heroes job to deal with villains, right? Then how about hero job gets categories? Heroes who catches villains (maybe Bakugou or others), heroes who support other heroes, heroes who make support items, heroes who protects civillians, heroes who help people with weird/dangerous quirks, heroes who help rehabilitation of villains. Hero job doesnt necessarely needs to be gone, it can still exist but this time, it will be really for everyone’s sake.
So every villain who gets rehabilitation should get at least one hero partner. For example;
For Spinner, it can be Shoji. (Not sure about Mr Compress).
For Toga, it can be Uraraka and others.
For Shigaraki, it can be Deku and maybe if he lives, Allmight can help them too.
Tumblr media
For Dabi, it can be Shouto, this would be amazing opportunity since they get to know each others as brothers. Isnt that good, Dabi? Shouto will give the all attention you ever desired. Shouto and Touya would be amazing together because Touya is kind of person who express himself with actions more than words and Shouto is the kind of person who pay attention to someone’s actions more than their words. I can imagine them being the silliest brothers ever.
Tumblr media
Tenko and Touya always wanted to be hero, not only they can be hero/help people but also they can take responsbility for their actions at the same time. Isnt that good, Tenko, Touya? You can be hero too.
If a villain wants to go out freely (maybe once or twice a week) and if that villain is dangerous, then their hero partner should join them. I am not saying that they should live like this forever but at least, for a period of time, they should.
+ Also Hawks should get this rehabiltation with Tokoyami as partner too since honestly, he really needs therapy and needs to face consequences too.
Tumblr media
Also, i think society really needs to hear those villain stories, that the people they called villains are humans and their suffering. Society should make support items for every person for their quirk, like, actualy quirk doctors who will help people, not respressing them or shutting them down. They really need, especially next generation, they need well prepared education.
At schools, these new historical events between heroes and villains should taught to kids and reminding them that the meaning of heroes so that they will never forget. Of course, not everything will be solved by this but at least, we should see the effort and some positive change in society.
Tumblr media
Also, another reason why i want league of villains to live in some kind of mental institute/house type of place is because i think they shouldnt be separated. They are family and friends, they can heal together.
Especially, about Dabi’s ending with Todoroki family. I think family needs time to heal and a little space. Both side accepting each others wont be easy. Touya needs therapy and letting him go to his family as nothing happenned doesnt make sense, especially considering that he is the only one whose family is alive and accept him.
Also, league is Dabi’s family too. They should be together. Todoroki family can visit him sometimes, maybe he can go to live with them once a while with Shouto by his side.
- If Endeavour lives at the end, he should definitely loose his hero job and get out of his family’s life at least. (Though, i think this wouldnt be enough to punish him since he hurted so many people, not just his family.). And also heroes shouldnt get away with doing wrong things, just because they are ‘heroes’.
Tumblr media
And i dont think Dabi ever will forgive Endeavour, him accepting Endeavour would be unrealistic and terrible message since some victims have a right to not forgive and have space from their abusers forever. Best development that can ever happen between Dabi and Endeavour is Dabi’s giving up on killing him and respecting other family members choices to forgiving him or not. For example, Fuyumi or maybe Shouto or others can forgive him and if they want, they can still meet him but Endeavour should stay away from Dabi forever. Btw since Todoroki family can really help Dabi a lot, Fuyumi can teach him many things, Natsuo can help with medical issues, Shouto with hero issues, Rei can help him since she also lived in mental institue too before. So many options.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Izuku’s bullying and his feelings for the bullying gets explored and Izuku takes his time for it too, especially some space from Bakugou.
- If Kurogiri lives, Aizawa and Yamada can help him and also by helping some noumus who can still be human.
- If league lives (they should,), they live together and heal together.
- Happy ending for Todoroki family.
- Tenko finally achieve his dreams to be hero.
- Hero kids being actual heroes. I really want them to think about how to improve society and them constantly trying to reach out villains, failing over and overi sometimes giving up but eventually reaching that point, that would be amazing.
- Aoyama and Deku’s quirkless history hsould get explored more.
- Quirkless people can help others too.
- By helping villains and spending them with them, they can also learn many new perspectives that they never considered.
- Izuocha/Shigatoga canon.
- Prisons like Tartarus should end forever.
- Afo-Ofa should end for good. I mean, Afo lived enough and Ofa souls too. Time to rest in peace.
- I think at some point in story, everyone/hero kids and even with league of members, they can fight against Afo to save Shigaraki, that should happen, that would be really epic.
Tumblr media
If you actually think about it, it makes sense, especially since we already get chapters that called ‘This is the story of how we all become heroes’. Its also interesting that even in villain chapter we get this, it says ‘minus 1′, i think it also shows that they will also get that point too. I also kinda think this is the kind of ending author want to make, even if he cant, this is what he write.
Tumblr media
There might be things i forgot to say but for now, thats it. This is the best possible ending i can think right now. Anyway, author might mess up the ending and all so if it ends up messed up, then you can consider this as real canon ending because thats what they deserve.

I've noticed you've been referring to the current war in bnha as the final arc. Why is this the final arc? It feels very much like we are hitting a major turning point rather than any conclusion. All the character arcs feel very incomplete espically as you've point out how no one is really getting through to the villans and rather going in circles. I could see this being the final arc for the "old school heroes" but not for our protags. What's your reasoning? Not trying to be rude just curious
There are multiple reasons why other fans and I have been referring to it as the final arc:
1. Horikoshi originally announced that the series would end in 2022, then later amended that his predicted timeline was a bit too hopeful because his pacing was too slow and it was taking him longer than expected to wrap things up:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Chapter 306 was titled "The final act begins", giving a feel for how the story is slowly headed towards an ending. That was the beginning of the rogue arc btw. It's been over 70 chapters since then
3. The present arc is the thematic apex of many character arcs. Even all the secondary charas are getting their time to shine, when they've been mostly in the background before. We're finally seeing the main trio face off against their villain foils, which was set up as their main narrative challenge. After that, there wouldn't be much of a story to tell, so that too contributes to making this feel like a standard final arc.
4. Deku is now facing off against AFO, who was notably absent from the war arc, and who is the main antagonist of the series and "final boss". Add the fact that Deku is now mastering his multiple quirks and that ShigarAFO now has his own multiple powers, this arc is already set up as a pretty standard battle shounen overblown final fight with super high stakes. The only thing I see after this is an epilogue.
That being said, I agree that it doesn't yet feel like the characters (at least on the hero side) are yet developed enough for a wrap up. But that's just a pacing issue. The set up is there. It's just going very slow because Horikoshi wrote the heroes as faultless so far so he's struggling to get them where they need to be now imho. Tho honestly this arc is already a repeat of the war arc, and I don't really see a good way to end this in a fight cut short and interrupted, a regrouping e re-strategizing, and then yet another war. It would be pointlessly repetitive and kinda dragging its feet, and the heroes would just be in the same exact place as last time. Hence, I see it ending here, especially with Hori's intention to wrap up the manga soon-ish

what quirk do you think Yuu would have had if she was in Bnha , I know she was post to have mt lady quirk but mt lady got it now ? For some reason I was thinking telekinesis for Yuu, that and blue eyes so people don’t confuse her with ochako that much ?, what do you think ?) also hope your doing ok :)
Despite my lack of activity, I'm doing alright! Thanks for asking, anon!
Originally, Yuu's concept was that she was quite literally Mt. Lady, both in name and Quirk, with the only difference being in her design and a more timid/low self-esteem personality. At first, she was going to be the main protagonist, but Horikoshi changed his mind (something about her standing out too much?) and instead made her Quirkless friend, Yamikumo, go through some changes and become who we now know as our main protagonist, Deku. Rather than scrapping her completely, Horikoshi ended up splitting her into apparently 3 characters in the BnHA series:
Yu Takeyama/Mt. Lady, who inherited the name and Quirk
Ochako Uraraka, who inherited the 'female lead' role & overall design
And, surprisingly: Yui Kodai, who inherited the more 'quiet' aspect of Yuu's personality + some bits of her design from the conceptual process (and supposedly a part of her Quirk; I can't find evidence but it seems there's speculation that Yuu's Quirk not only changed her own size but the size of other things as well?)
Tumblr media
Personally, because I like the idea of maintaining the Original Trio image (Yami as Deku and Gougou as, well, Kacchan) + feel that Mt. Lady rules that name/Quirk identity with an iron fist, I view Yuu more as Proto!Ochako and thus she keeps the Zero Gravity Quirk. If she were in canon, the easiest way I'd fit her in is to simply make her Ochako's twin. Because she's quieter and more level-headed (in my headcanon, at least), she would likely be a supporting role more so for Ochako as a voice of logical reason than for Deku. She'd also be more prone to downplaying herself compared to how much she paints her twin in a much brighter light. If you're into zodiac signs, then while Ochako displays the brighter sides of her Capricorn zodiac, Yuu would be the calmer & quieter sides (almost similarly to Todoroki, who is also a Capricorn). Also if you hurt her dear twin Ochako, she will not be afraid to drop a boulder on you.
I like the idea of giving her blue eyes to distinguish her from Ochako should you plan to make them separate from each other. You could also make her hair color just a tad darker, with her costume also using blue tones. Giving her telekinesis is also a very interesting twist, though I'm very interested to see how you'd make it distinguishable from Quirks like Reiko Yanagi (from Class 1-B)'s Poltergeist. Let me know how that goes!

Shan you can’t be doing this to me with these theories you’re giving me hope for my boys
Tumblr media
(also hello lovely!!! hope you’re doing spectacular!!)
I MEAN, I'm just really curious. Is the second quirk awakening a part of the singularity theory? Is it a version of it? Or something entirely different? So far, the main villain trio are the best example of the theory, so what about the hero kids? Or any pro-hero?
I'm also deadly interested in what is going on with Dabi, with all the emphasis they have made in how no one has a clue how is he still alive. Since Sekoto Peak until now, there's something going on with him that we can't understand yet, but his old connection with Doc Garaki suggest it could be. As for Toga, we're closer to get more info on why she can't replicate Tomura or Dabi's quirks (could it be because they have reached their singularity point?).
AND HIIIII CROW, I LOVE YOUUUUU today was not the best of days, but writing about bnha always makes things better, so here I am ivhgiskjdvbas sending you pretty rocks and coins and flowers <3

okay so what I was going to post before I noticed I got polls was!! i went through some of my sketchbooks and encountered some sketches i was 🐗 about.. i wanted to share them on here!! I'll put them under a readmore since y'all know I like explaining things 🫣
first off is one of my Steven Universe OC's... pearl!! 😳😃 what pearl? I genuinely could not tell you anymore 🫣 but from what I remember, she was a supporting character to my main OC, Aquamarine (the reveal of the canon aquamarine killed my interest in the show 😭). The two worked on this off-Homeworld ship but rose up against the captain and iirc crash-landed on Earth a long time ago? and Aquamarine was looking for Pearl, who'd lost her memories in the crash. something like that? anyhow I remember feeling like GOD when I decided on that hairstyle! i also like her cape, it's like a translucent bubble around her (was the translucency thing associated with all pearls? I don't remember anymore 😅)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
next are some of my bnha 🫣 ocs! They were second year students, if memory serves correctly. truthfully I forgot who they were until I saw the little nametag in the second picture 😶😅
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The one on the left is named Ikina Youta, and basically his quirk is that he's like the sun? He can superheat his body, emit light, and funnily enough charge stuff through solar power 😆 A big part of his story was that he was Terrified of his quirk, to the point Aizawa was going to expel him for wasting its potential. His family (he's actually a tie-in to my sister's own characters haha) develop adaptive gear that supports him and keeps him from burning himself alive when he uses his quirk, so now! in his second year! he is breaking ground and testing out the extent of his powers :]
The one on the left is named Uzumeru Tsuyume, and he's actually Recovery Girl's grandson! He has a mix of her and his father's Sandman quirk (i slappa you and you knock out 😈.. which doesn't sound like a superpower at all... LOL!!!), so basically if he touches you you get knocked into a deep restorative sleep. his mother, chiyo's daughter, wasn't a huge fan of him going to UA after helping her mother patch heroes up her whole life, but Tsuyume thought his powers would be most helpful at ground zero and so he went to UA against her wishes. He really looks up to his grannie and has lunch with her twice a week :-] his costume is somewhat of a homage to her, although his friends tease him because it also looks like a racecar driver's outfit, which was not intentional he swears!!!!! but the little racecars on his nightstand tell a different story 👁👁❗ I think, similar to Chiyo, his power is a little draining on him so he's always a little tired and grumpy. he and youta balance each other out :D
they're actually 2/3 of my 2nd year trio! the third member of their group is a birdgirl (i was still debating how Bird i wanted to make her before i abandoned bnha..) named Koetaka Hanami, whose power is basically being an Offensive Opera Singer... her hero name is even Coloratura 😆😎🤠 she's a huge fan of Present Mic and resembles him in some ways... She brings the heat and muscle in their trio! Tsuyume does most of the support work (although sometimes it's nice to have him smack someone just to knock them out lol) and Youta does a lot of person-to-person stuff.. i have forgotten the word for this just now </3 he can also be a human flare so that's pretty useful! but Hanami is the one running in and taking care of the baddies, with her glass-breaking voice haha
I moved on from bnha after the first movie (iirc? whichever one i-island was..) so I have no idea how they'd fit into the overall plot anymore teehee! they are just fun little dolls for my brain now :]
finally are some doodles of the one... the only.... mister sergio joestar dun dun dun! He's actually why I went digging through my sketchbooks to begin with haha!
Tumblr media
i remember really wanting to capture his fuckt up Dad Hair + sideburns.. i think the left one does it the most justice- my sketchy style makes his hair lose the plot in the right drawing hehe. anyhow the context of the left sketch is that josuke was an evil baby and would constantly pull on his scarf, but. sergio refused to ever take it off because it was a present and reward for his swagrannie lisa lisa :') so he would just let josuke choke him out.. imagine he's doing the goku laugh, u know the one!
the right drawing is just the lament o' sergio to me. I forget the context but I think that look of mild concern/apprehension suits his journey pretty well.... POV you can sense Dio within a 100 mile radius (plot twist he is having his hot girl summer in japan and is unaware of ur existence 🤪🤪)
my first and i think Only drawing of giorno is here too! i wanted to try an animal crossing style out on him.. when I drew this I wanted to get more into an AC style for my cutesy drawing, to complement the looser and :3-ier style I would use that you can see to his left. i think it turned out nicely! I think the sketch on his left is of my main YOI character, but. your guess is as good as mine lol!
seeing these made me want to pick drawing back up again and maybe commit to doing some studies/use references! I've never done a study of anything and my use of references is. light at best <3 so these really are Pure Sketchies and Doodlies ur honor. i wonder what more serious art from me would look like!

top 5 animes ❣️
1. One piece
Tumblr media
Of course it’s one piece. Critically I wouldn’t say it’s the best adaption, it’s definitely got some pacing issues and I definitely recommend binge watching instead of the torture of week-by-week (also the manga is god tier #1 manga). Apart from that though, one piece is an absolute epic that has my entire heart. It really be a life commitment cause once you’re in, you’re in for life. Honestly not too exaggerated to say one piece changed my life for the better. If you like stories about found family, adventure, comedy, amazing characters and character develop, absolutely epic world-building on par with Tolkien and G.R.R. Martin then please give one piece a go. And if not, still give it a go I promise it will change your life ❤️❤️
2. Durarara!!
Tumblr media
Drrr, specially season 1, is such an amazing adaption. The characters, the art style, the music, my beloved shizaya ❤️ One of the very first animes i watched I still love to rewatch season 1 🥰🥰
3. Fruits Basket
Tumblr media
😭😭😭🥰🥰🥰🥰❤️😭❤️❤️ The perfect anime. Bittersweet slice-of-life, tragic and poetic, heartbreaking, yet hopeful. FB grabbed me by the feels and didn’t let go. Ngl I sobbed through most of it, tears of pain and tears of joy 🥺🥹 Critically speaking, in terms of character driven story telling FB is definitely my #1.
4. Hunter X Hunter
Tumblr media
HxH is extremely underrated in my opinion. It was my first anime so it has that special place in my heart. Along with OP it’s an absolute pinnacle of Shonen. Most of the time I get annoyed with Shonen anime but when it’s done right boy does it go off. Amazing characters, character development, story-telling, and world building 🥰 critically i would say hxh is my #2 just for how tight it’s story-telling is, it has good pacing too which is such a bonus. Honestly bad pacing is so tedious it’s such a turn off
5. Jujutsu Kaisen
Tumblr media
This was such a hard decision to make 😭😭 I didn’t really like JJK at first. It was okay but it was very Shonen and I wasn’t that invested in the characters. What really drew me in was Sukuna. I love his design, he’s an amazing villain and possession trope is 😮‍💨😮‍💨. Another thing that interested me actually was Kugisaki. So this was tying with Naruto for #5 but when I was comparing them I of course looked at the similarities of the main trio. I absolutely despise Sakura, not as a character, I actually want to like her so much, but just how bad kishi has written her honestly she deserved so much better. On the other side, Kugisaki, along with the rest of the ladies of JJK, are absolutely AMAZINGLY WELL WRITTEN. Like i love her so much I think she’s so interesting, three dimensional and it’s nice she’s not just a love interest for the men. A fully fleshed out character who’s a woman in this day an age? In my 2022??? Anyway besides Sukuna and Kugisaki, I decided to watch it for the animation alone, it is absolutely STUNNING, and that is why it’s beaten some of my other favs. It’s worth it for that alone. What really got me hooked was after I watched it I went straight to the manga and it’s one of those stories that just gets better and better with every arc. I am so absolutely ravenous to see the arcs of season 2 animated I apologise for the person I become when that happens 😅 Anyways, after I had caught up with the manga and was properly hooked I rewatched the anime a further two times welp 😅
6. Bungo Stray Dogs
Tumblr media
I COMPLETELY FORGOT BSD EXISTED FOR A MINUTE THERE NOOOOOOOO!!!!! Probably this is more so tied with #5. Anyway I love love love BSD. The first season was a lil eh and I wasn’t totally on board but DARK ERA SNATCHED MY WIG and I’ve been obsessed ever since. Up to date with the manga and very excited for season 4. Dazai alone to me is such an interesting character (kind of like Izaya that way). Also my beloved soukoku. And rare pair Ranchuu.
Honorary mentions: Naruto (very soft spot in my heart for Naruto it gets #6), BNHA (season 1-3, beyond that is a butchered adaption and a rant that needs its own post), Banana Fish, Haikyuu!!, Given, KuroBasu, ugh I’ve watched too many animes I can’t even remember them all. Also does this count movies? cause if movies count, NUMERO UNO ICHIBAN FOREVER AND EVER KIMI NO NA WA MY BELOVED 😍
(Also Shizaya your name au anyone???)

hhhh i'm so late with this but thank you @jaywalkers for the tag!!
1. anne shirley from anne of green gables - this series and its protagonist were absolutely FORMATIVE for me and shaped so much of my worldview as a child. she remains one of my favourite characters in anything ever. a child of light by birthright.
2. percy jackson - look i have nothing to say for myself. i've been younger than him and exactly his age and older than him and he's very special to me. i'll always remember the way this series Hooked me into reading as a child.
3. tsukishima kei from hq - it's very strange that i've never written him but i adoreeeee him truly. i love his arc and his development and his personality and i love him finding JOY in what he does in a way that retains his integrity of self throughout it.
4. midorima shintarou from knb - clocking that i have a Type in characters now but really i LOVE him. he's my son. my babie son. i would do anything for him and his stupid cart and his stupid glasses and his stupid lucky items.
5. renee walker from aftg - okay i love the main trio of this series so much but i had to mention renee specifically because it's like half of her is what i am and the other half is what i aspire desperately to be. i think she deserves everything in the world.
6. artemis from artemis fowl - more of my type i.e. babie son. he's INSUFFERABLE and smug and clever and calculating and ruthless and not as ruthless as he thinks he is. and so, so, so loved. also he's just so fucking funny i love him.
7. todoroki shouto from bnha - i don't keep up with this series anymore but i do miss the characters and todoroki is so special to me. his arc and development are so compelling and i just want him to be happy!!
8. kim dojka from orv - oh my GOSHHHH this man. he is such an incredible character from a narrative standpoint (SO unreliable and complex, an incredible study in loneliness and storytelling and readership and escape) but also from a personal one he's SUCH A GUY. i love him endlessly.
9. saiki k from the disastrous life of saiki k - i don't talk enough about how much i love this anime but i ADORE saiki and his dry wit and constant tiredness and begrudging friendships (i'm just realising this is Still My Type) anyway i want to hold him up like simba. i want to gently rotate him in a microwave.
10. chuuya nakahara from bsd - he's just such a good boy. angry unhinged crazy good boy. he's tiny. i want to eat his gender. i want to ruffle his hair. i want him to find lasting peace and happiness. every six months i am suddenly hit with a wave of fondness for him.
not sure who to tag on this so everyone feel free to give it a go!!! i want to see your blorbos. your scrunklies. your babygirls.

Hi!! sorry for disappearing, i was busy this week! How are you? the others secret santa that I participated were for bnha and the tv show stranger things.
with hq!! I'm an anime only, with snk I read the manga, snk was not the first animanga I watched/read but it was the one that make me love anime, with anime I was a casual watcher, but after snk I started to look for more anime to watch and also it was the anime that a lot of my classmates watched/read so it was nice to talk with them about it.
yeah, op has a lot of episodes and that's the main reason I haven't watched it, maybe one day.. I'm slow at watching stuff so I always end up choosing something else to watch; we share a lot of faves animangas!! and I added to my watchlist the ones I haven't seen 👀
my favorite character from bnha is Bakugou, from jjk is Sukuna and from vnc is Noé!! my fav season from hq!! is season 1 and my favorite matches are Karasuno vs Aoba Johsai 1 and Karasuno vs Shiratorizawa, for snk my fav seasons are s1 and s3! and my favorite colors are red and black!!

Snk really is powerful, I miss it so much, and I can’t wait for the last season to air🥹 Not many of my classmates were into snk but I always have my sister to talk about it with, and about others animangas as well ! The animes that really got me into animangas were one piece and fairy tail! But I started to watch more animes and be even more into them when I got on tumblr 🥴 When I was little, I used to watch "kids animes" (that I would still watch nowadays ngl😂) that were broadcasting on tv (such as ojamajo doremi, tokyo mew mew, pokemon etc… ) and also the ghibli movies !🤭
For one piece, surely the fact that it has so many episodes is the main reason why people don’t start it, but it’s understandable 😭 I hope you will start it someday still<3 Aaah I’m glad and I hope you will like the ones you added to your watchlist !! 👀
Bakugo is also my favorite character from bnha ! 🤭 Those matches are so good too 😭 my others fav matches are from beyond the anime adaptation, so I will not say anything 🤫🤭
This season I’m watching : mob psycho 100 season 3, blue lock, spy x family season 2, yowamushi pedal season 5 and chainsaw man; what are you watching this season Santa ?
My favorite relationships are: Hoshiumi/Hinata, Bokuto/Akaashi, Sakusa/Atsumu, Reiner/Porco, Geto/Gojo, Law/Luffy/Eustass (the captain trio from one piece) Aki/Angel, Hanako/Nene (jshk) what are yours ? 👀
I hope you had a good week too, and that you will have a good one ahead 😊 <3

Hey y'all, long time no see😰😳
I haven't been active(whats new 😩😩) but for good reason!
I decided I'm going to take my time and rewrite my MHA trio x reader!
Theres a few reasons for this;
1) when I go back and reread some of the first few chapters, I cringe😩 I wrote them so fast and at like 3am and there's 1848028482 mistakes and misspellings(and sure I know plenty of my work isn't edited) but I know I can do better than that
2) the original plot of the story is a lot darker than I wrote it as. Right now reader is a happy go lucky girl with some issues. Thats not how I really wanted her to be--shes too bubbly for the past I wanted her to have.
She doesn't have that dark of a past, nothing pertaining to villains, since she's still going to be the daughter of a pro hero.
When I was writing chapter 22 I did a flashback scene, even more in depth and longer than in chapter 21, and based on what her past entailed(along with her dads personality) I just made her too outlandish for someone in her situation.
3) I am soooooo inconsistent with my updates and writing in general, and I want to change that. Work, school, and life in general backtracks my writing but I still want to get better than posting once a month lol.
So I have a little over 20 chapters made, I am going to rewrite them all, then at least for a few months ill have a consistent schedule of posting every friday. It'll be better for both you guys and myself.
So with that being said, I am going to work on little projects in between, but my main focus is going to be rewriting the story. I still will not be accepting any requests, and I think I have 2 more matchups that I still need to finish? Jeez I'm so sorry I'm terrible 😭😩
How the new story will work!!
I am not going to edit the past, original chapters. With the way Tumblr works, even if I edit them and reblog, its a mess and it may not get onto yalls home pages. I'll keep the old naster/old chapters, yet mark it as OLD.
I'm going to be creating a new masterlist and new posts for the revised story. I'll still have a taglist and such for those who want it, yet I won't be working on the older version, just the newer one.
This way for anyone who wants to go back and reread it, or even compare, both will be there(:
I'm also going to post this story on AO3(username is still liliesoftherain 😌)!! I'll add a link when it gets started, ill have the update dates be the same, so whichever site you prefer you can read it on
I already have the first chapter rewritten and done! And I already like it sooooo much better. So I hope yall will too(:
Well, that should be all for now! I really appreciate each and every one of you who still follow me, and who still have hope in ny posts and updates🙌 yall deserve the world😭😭💖
Love you guys!!
-lilie💖😘

Welcome...
Tumblr media
This blog is dedicated to all kinds of BNHA-content. Due to stupid fandom drama, I reduced my analysis posts and stopped answering anon asks.
I will continue to reblog all kinds of content, including gifs, art, etc. The blog will now probably focus mostly on Shouto and the Todoroki family in terms of analysis.
I also run 4 other BNHA-blogs:
@2toplibrary - which is a shippy TDBK/BKTD fic rec hub and fanart + canon content collection
@origintriodaily - which focuses on mostly non-shippy Origin Trio content
@hkartincolor - the title says it - it’s just a personal collection of HK’s color art.
@hellishtodorokifamily - an archive dedicated to Todoroki family content
1. Spoilers
This blog is not spoiler-free. I am a manga reader, so anything up to the latest chapter is fair game. Leaks will be tagged bnha manga leaks  and I also tag bnha manga spoilers. So if you don’t want spoilers, blacklist those. Though anime onlies who want to stay unspoiled should stay away from this blog altogether
I also tag the chapter number - as bnha xxx
2. Asks
I answer quite a big number of asks. These are tagged c1a asks . Make sure to blacklist the tag if it annoys you. Anon asks is usually on, I sometimes turn it off for my own mental health. I cannot possibly answer every ask I get, but I do my best :) Also, if you ask something on anon, please try to be civil.
3. Meta and recap posts
I tag the longer meta as bnha meta and the weekly chapter recaps as class1a reads bnha
I have a not very up-to-date Meta Masterlist. with a more detailed explanation of tags I use
I post a lot about the Todoroki family, and have a tag called keeping up with the todorokis
I obviously love BNHA, but I get critical sometimes. These posts are tagged bnha critical
Endgame fight tracking
4. Art, gifs, edits
I reblog a lot of art, edit, gifs - these usually are tagged with the character name.
I post also official art - which includes sketches by Horikoshi, as well as sketches by the animators. Useful tags are: bnha promo sketches   bnha official art   and horikoshi sketches
5. Fic recs
I rec fics. On AO3, I have also organized my fic recs into collections.
6. My writing
I write sometimes - my fanfics are either TDBK or Gen-fic Origin Trio
My AO3 name is: BrusselsSprout and class1akids and my writing tag is brusselssprout writes
I also have a personal writing blog @brusselssproutwrites
7. Other social media
I have a Twitter account: https://twitter.com/class1akids
The Twitter account is leak free.
8. Other Fandoms
While right now, I’m mostly active on BNHA, I have a couple of other blogs too:
Marvel/Agents of Shield: @weareagentsofnothing (this is my main)
ATLA: @royaltealovingkookiness
Haikyuu!!/Sports Anime: @freaktwinsoftheconcrete
JJK/CSM: @chimera-shadow-garden

I have been hyperfocused on Mic's lack of a mustache, as well as Midnight's lack of a latex suit, on the backside of the BNHA Vigilantes volume 12 manga.
Tumblr media
So i decided to do some investigating to find out why they appear this way.
Since i don't keep up with Vigilantes like I do with the main story manga, I wasn't sure if the events of the chapters featured in volume 12 were a flashback or not. Upon closer inspection, I did figure out that it was, in fact, a flashback, although they don't specify how many years ago this flashback takes place, so I'm going mainly off of the physical appearances of recognizable characters like All Might and Fatgum, as well as a character that is key for me to find a good enough estimate of age: Miruko.
Tumblr media
Under the alias Tiger Bunny, Miruko was still a highschool delinquent in this flashback, which puts her somewhere between the ages of 15 and 18.
I'm gonna go ahead and just say she was 17, that's only a guestimation though. Now I'll subtract that from her current age in the main series: 27, and that would put this flashback roughly 10 years in the past.
Tumblr media
Now I will apply this to All Might, who was looking much healthier in this flashback compared his current appearance. I personally believe All Might is 55 in the main series, influenced by some new information in the most recent manga chapters. I'd be happy to elaborate on this another time, but for now I wanna advance my point for this post. With that said, All Might might be about 45 in this flashback, which to me explains why he still looks healthy: the events also take place 5 years before he receives his terrible wound from fighting All For One.
Tumblr media
Also, Sir Nighteye is here in the flackback, who in the main series had left All Might after he received his battle wound.
Tumblr media
AFO is also shown to still have his hair and nose in this flashback, before the battle where he wounds All Might and gets his own skull crushed like a soda can (that unfortunately did not kill him).
Tumblr media
I also just wanna throw in Fatgum for good measure since I love him dearly. He is 29 in the main series, so 10 years ago would put him at about 19 in the flashback. Barely a pro, but also no longer a hero student. <3
So now that I've guestimated the number of years this flashback may take place in, I'll finally apply it to the MidEraserMic trio.
Both Aizawa and Mic are the same age (although Mic is 4 months older heheheh~), and are currently 31 in the main series. So they would be 21 in the flashback.
Tumblr media
Midnight was already a third year student when Aizawa and Mic were in their second year of high school, putting her at maybe a year older (32), and 22 in the flashback.
And that, my friends, is why Mic doesn't have a mustache, and why Midnight's lack of latex seems a little similar to her pro-hero debut costume.
Tumblr media
The three of them were depicted on the back of the volume 12 manga as young "we're legally allowed to drink now" adults, still only ankle-deep in the waters of professional heroism.
Aizawa is the only one who looks no different than how he normally looks, though.
Tumblr media
Garbage boy stink man.

So is it just me or is the setup to save the 3 main villains looking kind of forced? Deku seeing Shigaraki’s child form, Dabi’s whole family feeling guilty and wanting to save him, and Toga crying. Dabi is the most believable but I wish there was more nuance about his family’s feelings.
I'll get to my thoughts on your actual ask beneath the cut down below, anon, but I feel obliged to point out first that I haven't really put a lot of stock in the “““villain trio”””(1) conceptually since My Villain Academia, and particularly Spinner’s closing narration in Chapter 239. Not to say that there's no reason to talk about Shigaraki, Toga and Dabi as a group, but the way some people talk about them and what their stories require of the larger narrative has always struck me as banking way too much on the prominence of that trio in anime merchandise art and not enough on what's actually going on with the League in the manga.
In that sense, my biggest fear about the set-up on saving just the "villain trio" is the way that the current scenario leaves other villains–and particularly non-League villains–out in the cold. For all that it seems obvious that the manga is maneuvering the kids towards the idea that saving villains is the right thing to do–that it's in bridging the divide between hero and villain that they will collectively become "the greatest heroes"–it's still glaringly obvious that this salvation doesn’t apply to villains as a group.
Why does that matter? Well, first let's go ahead and look at the gonna-get-saved-by-the-kids trio, because all three of them point in the direction of the answer to that question, and while two of them are, in my opinion, set up pretty well to do so, the third is a goddamn mess.
Which is a problem, seeing as it's the one with the most crucial parts of the narrative riding on it.
Beneath the cut: thoughts on the individual set-ups for saving Toga, Dabi, and Shigaraki–including lengthy diversions onto Uraraka’s money concerns and why we should have kept them, how the Todoroki Plot reflects on the larger plot of BNHA+the demands said mirroring puts on it as a narrative of intimate family abuse, and especially the myriad ways the narrative lets down Midoriya Izuku in trying to portray him as a young man “possessed by a drive to save others that eclipses all common understanding”–before coming back around to a discussion of why it isn't enough for just those three to be saved.
TOGA:
So, to start with, I personally feel like Toga’s is the most believable set-up. After all, the only thing that set-up requires is Toga's tears and Uraraka witnessing them, and that’s quite easy to arrange, given that Toga’s tears come when she essentially gets turned down by her crush–except in this case the rejection is also tantamount to a death threat. Of course that’s upsetting!
Ochaco would never, of course, but Toga’s fear of heroes being tied to fear for her life didn’t start with Jin’s murder; it goes all the way back to the training camp attack, which means it probably goes back to her time on the run. Villains being dehumanized to the point of them not counting as “people” fits right into the narrative she already has about heroes, but she clearly hoped for better from Uraraka, so I’m perfectly accepting of her being upset when she instead just gets told that she will be “stopped.”
I like that the matter of Toga feels so much in limbo right now, too. Like, Shigaraki and Dabi may need help, may even want help on some subconscious level, but Shigaraki certainly doesn’t think he’s going to get it, and I suspect Dabi is going to try to murder the first person who offers; he may or may not be laughing hysterically as he does so. Toga is the only one of the three who sought out her opposite number specifically to ask for advice and clarification, functionally a cry for help, only to have her hand very personally slapped away. Her leaving the way she did felt ominous, like a window of opportunity closing before Uraraka even realized it was there. I’m sure things will work out in the end, but there’s a good tension there that I’m rather enjoying.
If anything about the Toga/Uraraka situation feels forced, I think it’s on Uraraka’s end, and it isn’t really about Toga per se, so much as it is Uraraka’s larger arc and what’s driving it. A lot of people rightfully complain about how the character arc Uraraka seemed initially set up for–the one about her family’s financial struggles and how they influence her motivations re: heroism–got binned in favor of making her entire character revolve around Deku, possibly to make her a better parallel to Toga and her struggles with the nature of her “love.” While I’m inclined to agree that Uraraka’s money problems were 10,000x more interesting than her “heroes who protect other heroes” shtick, what annoys me about it is that her money motivations didn’t need to change to tie her to Toga.
Uraraka’s practicality stemming from her financial worries is not mutually exclusive to her crush on Deku and the way it attracts Toga’s attention. A harmless schoolgirl crush did not need to reroute her entire character arc; she could have kept all the financial worries while also being obliged to wrestle with this apparently maniacal serial killer being interested in her, and she would have been affected by Toga’s tears either way, because ultimately, Uraraka’s a nice kid with ample natural empathy, compassion, and desire to help people in need.
This is particularly egregious when you consider that the reasons Toga sought out Uraraka to begin with are a) her grief over Jin’s death and b) her fear of what that death presages for herself, neither of which is in the slightest romantic. Hell, Jin’s own situation is one he found himself in in part because of his poverty. I wish I had any faith that we could one day see Uraraka having to ask herself some uncomfortable questions about her original motivations for getting into heroism and what she might have done if heroism was either not an option at all or not a helpful option because something that makes you wait three years before you’re eligible to start getting paid for it doesn’t pay the rent or put food on the table today.
So, yeah. I don’t know; maybe Uraraka was always going to get derailed by the romance plot because Horikoshi couldn’t figure out a better way to approach her, or because his editor thought the female lead should have more of a focus on romance–Shonen Jump’s editorial staff is famously antiquated about that sort of thing.
But even if something like the above is the case, I ultimately find it hard to lay the blame for any resulting artificiality at the feet of the Saving Villains plot. Uraraka’s arc is awkward because of the ways it pivoted to revolve around her feelings for Deku, not because there’s anything inherently strained or bad about her pull to heroism being about helping people, or her gradually expanding her understanding of who she wants to help and what that help needs to look like in order to be effective via her parents, Deku, Nighteye, the civilians hurt in Gigantomachia’s passage, and eventually Toga. At worst, Uraraka deciding to pursue a career as a rescue hero is a bit Tiresomely Traditionally Feminine and Nurturing, but it would have been a lot more tolerably so without her every scene having to involve Deku somehow or another.
DABI:
As to Dabi, I too wish there was a bit more nuance to the Todoroki family’s feelings, but mainly that’s because my second-highest hope for that plot(2) was that we’d see the two older siblings invert: that Natsuo would be forgiving and want a reconciliation, while Fuyumi–who worked so tirelessly and for so long on salvaging what she could of her family, and who was finally beginning to see those efforts pay off–would be the one who found herself not wanting to forgive.
I never really expected to get that, though, so I’m generally pretty okay with what we’re getting on the Todoroki front. I know a lot of the Western villain fandom/the Endeavor hatedom really loathes the idea that the whole family was “taking responsibility” when Dabi is Endeavor’s monster to the bone, but I prefer to look at it as shrinking the societal down to the personal. It's all about connecting the family's personal troubles with the themes of the series at large, and one of those themes–indeed, possibly the theme as far as the sympathetic villain angle goes–is that society has a responsibility to the victims it creates.
No one single person is responsible for Shigaraki Tomura,(3) and yet, one single person could have made all the difference in the world to him. Whose fault is it, that not one person did? No one’s, obviously, because you can’t pin (to use a different show’s marvelously apt phrasing) a complex network of interrelated forces beyond anyone's control on a single person. Yet still, that crowd of people is indicted by the manga. Them averting their eyes and saying, “It’s not my job; someone else will come along soon; I can’t right now; I’m not the right one.”–their inaction is the systemic fault that the manga has set out to critique from its very first chapter. It is the “normal” that Midoriya Izuku is intended(4) to be marked apart from.
So, if the story is saying that it is everyone's responsibility to try to help someone in need, regardless of whether the situation is their fault or their responsibility, then the story has to bear that out on a personal level as much as it does a societal one. It would ring totally false if the manga were to say that perfect strangers have an obligation to step in and help when help is needed, but somehow not have that hold true for when the need is within one’s own family.(5)
Returning, then, to the Todoroki plot: if we can’t permit family members to even say, “Maybe if I had spoken up back then, I could have stopped it from getting as bad as it did,” in a conversation about the circumstances that led to Dabi without accusing Horikoshi of victim-blaming or abuse apologia, then how on earth can we expect to navigate the conversation about the collective failures that piled up and piled up until they became the lethal hatred Shigaraki bears for the common bystander? If we can indict that crowd of people whose worst crime was to avert their eyes from something uncomfortable they saw one time, telling themselves they’d let a professional handle it, then why can’t the Todoroki family have a frank discussion about a problem they all (with the exception of Shouto) spent years watching get worse and worse and yet still proved unable to avert?
And look, lest anyone think I’m blaming them, of course it wasn’t Fuyumi or Natsuo’s responsibility to fix that whole situation; they were just kids, and, no, I don't seriously think there's anything they could have done that would have changed it. But the two of them looking back on The Problem of Touya with the benefit of hindsight and wondering if there was anything they could have done seems like a perfectly normal, human response to me, and that's even without the themes around the saving of villains being what they are.
Incidentally, the same sentiment cropped up–and received similar complaints from the Western fandom–when Iida said that Class 1-A shared some responsibility for Aoyama’s crimes because they failed to “perceive what was in his heart.” Of course what he did isn’t their fault, but still, the narrative says, he was there and he needed help, and he even tried to ask for it in subtle ways, and yet, no one helped him; everyone just chalked his weirdness up to him being a weirdo and didn’t try to look any deeper. And so, when they look back on those moments, they think, “He needed us then and he needs us now, even if he's given up asking. We owe it to him to try to help because we didn’t back then.”
Yes, there's certainly a conversation to be had about Consequences For Endeavor, but playing blame games in Enji's hospital room when he's out of his mind on grief and painkillers doesn't actually bring Touya back in from the mountain. Touya has to come first.
Class 1-A's conclusion of collective responsibility is the same one the Todorokis reach in the hospital room: We all have to try, because we owe him the help we couldn’t give him when he needed it back then. The conclusion is the same because it's the same conclusion the arc of the Heros vs. Villains story is bending towards.
And on that note…
SHIGARAKI:
As much as I wish it were otherwise, I do, in fact, agree 100% that the set-up on Deku wanting to save Shigaraki is forced, insincere, thematically shakey, underrealized bullshit, and almost all of it goes back to the woeful gap between what the story tells us about Deku and what the story shows us about Deku.
Chiefly, the complaint I have is that I just don’t buy–have never bought–the idea that Deku’s “drive to save” is unique and rare beyond all others.
I'm about to spend a lot of time talking about this, so let me lay out at the outset why it's important to the matter at hand: because Shigaraki is both Hero Society's ultimate villain, the hardest one to defeat, and its ultimate victim, the hardest one to save. Deku's drive to save has to be as extreme as we're told it is because he's going to have to risk everything fighting the villain in Shigaraki (possibly the AFO influence, if ShigAFO is the Final Boss) while also still looking for the remnants of the victim no one else could reach, the one everyone else has written off as unsavable. If the audience has the impression that just anybody could reach the victim in Shigaraki, it will be that much less impactful when Deku does, and that much less convincing when the story is shouting into a megaphone about how impressive it is that he's able to.
If Deku's drive to save falls flat, then the huge deal the story is making about him wanting to save Shigaraki falls flat, and it becomes–in anon's words–"forced."
So.
Deku goes to extreme lengths to save, sure, but has he really gone that much farther than any–than every–other character? What exactly has he done that’s so unique? Risked his arms? Arms which he got healed constantly, and that narrative handwaving has now ensured he can and does still use? That doesn’t impress me like Mirio’s snap decision to knowingly sacrifice his quirk–and with it, all his past efforts and future dreams–to save Eri.
Maybe him sacrificing his connections, like when he left school? But how can I count that when All Might left with him and, within a month, Deku’s entire class turned up to drag him out of his ass and back into their midst? How can one month possibly compare to All Might’s willingness to spend thirty years burning himself out with virtually no close friends or loved ones to show for it?
Deku risked his life? All those heroes who planted themselves in front of Gigantomachia mid-rampage risked their lives. So did every single member of the MLA who escaped the wave of Shigaraki’s Decay in Deika and then, knowing that that deadly attack could still be on the table, pressed into the cloud of dust and ruin out of a desire to help their leader. Hell, Mr. Compress even explicitly called out the idea that only heroes can give their lives for a cause when he consciously chose to maim himself in a way that both he and Best Jeanist clearly assumed would prove fatal.
How am I supposed to be impressed by Deku risking his life after watching Twice give his? No. Nothing Deku has done or sacrificed strikes me as indicative of a drive to save that warrants Nighteye’s description as a sort of madness.
There are only two things I can think of that might argue otherwise, and both of them are compromised by other factors.
First, there’s the idea that Deku risks his life not only for friends (like any number of other characters) or complete strangers (like any hero worth a damn), but also for people who have hurt him and people he cares about–people like middle school Bakugou and Shigaraki. But Bakugou told All Might (and thereby the audience) that Deku’s drive to save is one that doesn’t consider himself; Deku’s fanbase has been arguing for years that his self-sacrificial tendencies are a symptom of a lack of self-worth resulting from the bullying and judgment he faced for being quirkless.
Deku helping people who have hurt him doesn’t make his drive to save impressive; it just means he doesn’t get angry for his own sake. If that’s the case, why should I find that trait admirable? If it’s secretly a character flaw, shouldn’t I want him to change it? But that’s clearly not what the story’s trying to tell me–not unless it’s saving up for a serious endgame pivot on its saintly portrayal of Shigaraki Yoichi.(6)
The other possibility–and this one is much bigger–goes back to anon’s question, and the story's larger thematic thrust: the idea of saving villains.
And like, okay, this would be huge. It should be huge. All those people I listed above, who have risked and given as much or more than Deku ever has? They all undertook those risks, paid those prices, for people on their own side. For innocents, for allies, for friends.
Deku reaching out for villains would represent reaching across the aisle–reaching out for people who his cultural upbringing tacitly trained him to believe were less than human, people who could never possibly need to be saved themselves because they were who heroes saved people from. If Deku had, this whole time, wanted to save villains, now that would be a drive to save that I could believe was so rare as to be called insanity. Hell, even if he didn't start out thinking of saving villains but was the first to try and bridge the gap, that would be something.
But even here, the series undermines him in countless ways.
You know who the first person to reach across the aisle to save someone was?
It was Stain, when he acted to stop Deku being carried off by a Noumu. A villain was the first person to try to save someone ideologically opposed to themselves. Hell, a villain was the second person, too: Spinner, in acting to stop Magne from attacking Deku.(7)
Now, in fairness, the story does portray Stain as a madman, and Spinner was consciously emulating him, not acting on his own inherent beliefs. And, yes, Deku was the first hero to try to save a villain–except that the Todorokis and Uraraka are all right on his heels, and nobody in the story is calling them crazy!
The Todorokis haven’t said the words yet, but anyone who thinks people like Rei or Natsuo are going to be down with murdering Touya for the greater good are fools beyond belief; likewise, there is no damn way Shouto’s position as “hero of the family” ends in him killing his oldest brother and twisted reflection of who he himself knows he could have become.
Meanwhile, though Uraraka has probably not even fully articulated the quandary to herself yet, she’s also running on a lot less knowledge than either the Todorokis–who spent over a decade with Touya and intimately know what every bit of his damage is–or Deku, who literally got to experience a psychic impression of Shigaraki as a weeping five-year-old child clutching his dog while seeing current!Shigaraki being gruesomely consumed by All For One in a flesh-twisting vision out of Cronenberg. So, you know, by comparison,(8) I think Uraraka already feeling the pangs of conscience from catching a brief glimpse of tears from a girl she already knew to be emotionally out of whack is doing pretty well.
And, of course, let’s not forget the way that every single member of Class 1-A was 100% ready to let bygones be bygones mere hours after finding out that their classmate Aoyama is a traitor who set them up for attack after lethal attack that led to injuries, kidnapping, and could easily have gotten any number of them killed.
This goes even further: the problem isn’t just that Deku was neither the first nor the only person to think about saving his enemies; it’s that he has never even faced significant pushback for his allegedly mad, rare, uncommon, nonsensical way of thinking. All Might didn’t fight him on wanting to save Shigaraki. Gran Torino gave him a gentle rebuke that consisted of nothing stronger than asking him to keep murder in mind as an option for “saving.”(9) The One For All vestiges questioned him some but quickly acceded. The Second and Third vestiges repudiated him more strongly, but Deku didn’t even have to win them over by his own efforts; Yoichi did it for him. Tsukauchi and Mic tried to protest holding that hand out to Aoyama, but both of them folded like wet paper the instant Aizawa backed Deku and the other kids’ resolve.
How am I supposed to buy that Deku’s resolve is so shockingly unprecedented when he’s never had to so much as raise his voice about it? For heaven’s sake, the sharpest anyone ever was with him was Nighteye, and even Nighteye’s harsh words were less about wanting to save someone–Eri, as picture-perfect an innocent victim as could possibly be imagined–as about not getting so arrogant as to assume he could just swoop in and carry that rescue out without even thinking about the consequences if something went wrong.
There is one final way the narrative lets Deku down in portraying his singular drive to save: how he treats villains he isn’t primed to be sympathetic towards. I mentioned already that it took that psychic vision to get him thinking about saving Shigaraki, and that’s a lot to require of a character who’s supposed to have this remarkable, unprecedented Saving Instinct. But required it apparently is, because, lacking open weeping (Vision!Shigaraki, La Brava, Aoyama) or an outright explanation of their damage (Gentle Criminal, Lady Nagant), other villains get screwed by Deku without remorse.
Muscular? Well, he didn't want to answer questions about his motives coming from some holier-than-thou teenager, meaning he must be irredeemable, so no need for anyone other than Deku to try to help him. Overhaul? Well, Deku held a grudge about him for Eri’s sake, so while Deku did the bare minimum of saving him from getting shot,(10) don’t expect him to take any steps to save Overhaul from what’s actually tormenting him.(11) The PLF? Hah hah, Deku’s never even met anyone from that group; why would he waste a moment’s thought on their problems?
By the time Deku got around to Dictator, his goal of understanding and saving villains, which he defended so idealistically to the vestiges, had crumbled into thoughts about how he had to “put a stop” to Shigaraki and the League; the only thing he wanted to talk to Dictator about was where he could find All For One. He offered the man not even one question about e.g. why he felt he needed “security.”
And look, Dictator is obviously a caricature who we are not meant to even consider the notion of a sympathetic backstory for. But fans are all too willing to invent abusive parents for Shinsou wholecloth based on his peers’ reactions to his mind-control quirk, we saw directly how Toga was treated for her inborn biological urges, and both of them have entirely normal, conventionally attractive features. Compare them to a dude with a Thanos chin, a bad case of kyphosis (in the vernacular, hunchback), and a quirk that manifests as cables coming out of his back like something out of The Cell, and tell me you can’t imagine the kinds of issues Dictator might easily have been dealing with since he was three years old.
Where was Deku's drive to save all of those people? If his desire to save is really so profound, why is it contingent on knowing someone's sob story first?
Before seeing Shigaraki in the mindscape, the only villain Deku made a real attempt to soften a landing for was Gentle Criminal, and even there, Gentle was the one to take the first step; he gave Deku an easy lie and all Deku had to do is back him up on it. Deku did, and that’s not nothing, but Gentle Criminal and La Brava were the easiest, “Are villains human?” test on their side of the traitor reveal–it's not some miracle that Deku passed.
Oh, by the way. One more little aside here before we move on. Kirishima was the first hero to openly show sympathy to a villain, back when he was fighting that extremely low tier gang dude in the alley–the one who would shortly shoot himself up with Trigger, becoming, briefly, Moonfish 2.0. He still scolded the man, sure, but he managed to attempt some conversation and openly expressed sympathy for the dude's motivations–about the same tack Deku would take with Gentle, except Kirishima beat him to the punch by forty chapters, largely because Kirishima is a side character and was therefore allowed to have street-level fights with low-stakes threats long before Deku was.
THAT ALL SAID, there’s one other huge, huge problem with the way the manga is currently approaching “saving Shigaraki,” and it’s a problem that’s on Shigaraki’s side, rather than Deku’s. The problem with the Shigaraki side of the equation is that if Shigaraki rolls over and stops being a villain just because Deku saved him from All For One–and with the series set to end within the year, we are rapidly running out of time to get much else(12)–it is going to be the most shameful squandering of everything a character represents that I have ever seen in my life.
Here’s the thing: despite All For One being the man most singly responsible for the existence that is Shigaraki Tomura, Shigaraki’s grievances aren’t about All For One. They never have been. Shigaraki may hate All For One, especially now, but that hatred doesn’t hold a candle to his hate for All Might and his broken promises, for bystanders that snivel about needing to be saved while being too cowardly to try and save others themselves, for heroes that perpetuate that weakness, for an entire system that relentlessly and ruthlessly ignores and villainizes everyone that it couldn’t or wouldn’t save. That is the challenge he poses; that is what has to be overcome for him to be mollified.
All For One has got shit-all to do with Shigaraki’s real accusations against the protagonists. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t need to be saved from All For One; it just means that saving him from All For One cannot be sufficient to resolve his grievances–not the ones he carries for himself, and especially not the ones he represents for others.
Saving Shigaraki has to mean saving everyone Shigaraki speaks for, and thematically, Shigaraki speaks for damn near every villain in the series except All For One. If the kids don’t address those villains' pain, they don’t address his. If they don’t address his pain, they haven’t saved him.
As it stands, individual villains have to earn their rescues by not only having sad backstories or sympathetic personalities, but by having those things where a hero can see them. Re-Destro was groomed from the time he was in schoolboy shorts to take on the burdens of his ancestor? Overhaul was raised by a yakuza boss who clearly never got him the help he needed to deal with his issues about disease and uncleanliness? Mustard is a disaffected middle-schooler with clear hangups about class? Well, they weren’t Sad where a hero character could see it, so fuck ‘em, apparently.
I’m very here for seeing the humanity in villains and wanting to save them, because the current state of affairs in-universe is a goddamn carnival of human rights abuses, but if it never goes any farther than the kids trying to reach people that have pre-demonstrated sympathetic qualities, then it doesn’t amount to shit in my eyes.
As of right now, there is precious little setting apart All Might’s and Deku’s attitudes on Shigaraki: both of them were 100% ready to beat him as savagely as necessary to make him stop, right up until the instant they learned something humanizing and personal about him, and only then did they think about saving him, despite both of them having had ample evidence to think critically about how Shigaraki wound up the way he did way long before they learned his real name/the fact that he used to be a sad kid with a dog. The only difference is that when people tried to talk them out of it, All Might let himself be, while Deku acknowledged the difficulty but claimed to still want to try.(12)
Like, guys, Shigaraki’s sad backstory is not Schrödinger's cat; it exists whether or not a hero bears witness to it. The same goes for every other villain–it has to, because the personal opinion of a sixteen-year-old should not and cannot be the deciding factor in how a society treats its criminals. Obviously, that’s not to say, “Whee, no consequences for anyone because everyone has justification for being the way they are!” but the re-humanization of villains has to go farther than “the three villains that these three high school kids have any reason to care about.”
Look how far having a sympathetic backstory but no high schoolers who cared about him got Jin, after all.
Changing all of this will be a massive, massive feat–but that is, after all, why Shigaraki, who symbolically carries something from every other villain he's faced, is Hero Society’s greatest challenge. He's the greatest villain and greatest victim all in one, because the two categories are, from a practical standpoint, inseparably tangled. Whether you see someone as one or the other is all in how much you know and where you’re looking from.
Now, the story is, of course, ongoing. It is perfectly plausible to me that all this business with setting some of the kids up to see the humanity in these villains is just the first step in them realizing that all the people they’ve been taught to see as inhuman villains have reasons for being the way they are, and those reasons–poverty, abuse, discrimination, generational grudges, urges they were born with and never given a healthy way to channel–are the real enemy. That maps perfectly well to the experience of many real-life people raised on discriminatory rhetoric against The Other who never think to question it until they meet someone who puts a face on the issue, and then have to unlearn an entire lifetime’s worth of messaging.
It’s a slow, difficult, painful process in real life, so if what it takes for the heroes to get there is a smiling girl’s tears, a lost brother’s rage, and the vision of an inconsolable boy and his dog–well, maybe it’s a bit hamfisted, but as long as it doesn’t end with the girl, the brother, and the boy, I can live with that.
But we're awfully late in the game now to only just be starting on that arc.
Thanks for the ask, and I hope I managed to hit on anything you were actually wanting to know somewhere in All Of That. Sorry it took so long!

FOOTNOTES
(1) I would have thought the way I use scare quotes every time I talk about the ““”““villain trio”””“”””“””“”” would make that clear, but perhaps more are in order. Time to start ordering in bulk, I guess.
(2) My highest hope was Dabi being treated less like the Secretly Sweet Good Big Brother the fandom always liked and more like the vengeful D&D-style revenant of Todoroki Touya, which I’m thrilled to say is exactly what the canon is giving me.
(3) The obvious talking point here is All For One, and he certainly comes the closest to bearing singular blame, but even he might never have had what he had to work with if any of Kotarou, Nana, or Gran Torino had made different choices. This is especially the case if Decay proves to be Tenko’s own quirk, a mutation like Eri’s, and not one given to him by AFO.
(4) How successfully Midoriya Izuku really stands apart from that norm is a different matter, about which I will have a great deal more to say shortly.
(5) As, indeed, we also see within the Shimura family. The “one person” to change everything could have been any adult in that household willing to stand up to Kotarou and tell him he was letting his abandonment trauma poison his entire family.
(6) By all means, I would welcome this, but I'm long past the point of expecting it.
(7) And people say he has no connection to the students. Fools, Spinner’s connection to the students is Deku, and not just because of the training camp.
(8) My specific point of comparison would probably be Uraraka taking about four weeks and thirty-five chapters to get to the same question of, “What happens to people that don’t get saved?” that Deku ignores for well over two hundred chapters and the better part of a year. It’s not like Deku didn’t pick up on the implications when Shigaraki laid the crux of his damage bare at Deku’s feet during their mall encounter; Deku asked All Might in the very next chapter if there was ever–as Shigaraki implied–someone that All Might was unable to save. He listened to All Might acknowledge, sure, that’s happened lots of times, and then he apparently just never let himself think about it again, right up until he had his face shoved in the consequences. By comparison, Uraraka got there all on her own, no psychic visions required, just her own insight and ability to push a statement of intent to its logical conclusion.
(9) And despite this bit of ludicrous advice going against everything he just got done facing down a psychic tribunal over, Deku doesn’t even think twice about wearing this man’s mantle.
(10) And both Dabi (the eldest son of a top hero who for years aspired to the career himself, so he presumably has some idea about what the job requirements entail) and Lady Nagant (a hero herself, personally trained by the regulatory bureau in charge of heroes, so you know she's got a pretty good idea of what the party line is) say that heroes are trained to never let people die, no matter who they are. So no, Deku saving Overhaul from getting shot even though he's a villain does not impress me; it's literally and explicitly a matter of basic hero education to not let villains get killed through one's own inaction. This, incidentally, is also why I didn't credit Hawks saving Twice from Dabi's fire as being the first hero to try to save a villain; note that if I did count Deku saving Overhaul from Nagant's bullet, Hawks' earlier save would have been one more way the series undercut him.
(11) Bullshit moral grandstanding that doesn’t materially improve things for anyone, least of all Overhaul’s actual victims, decidedly does not count.
(12) Especially if we're due for any more nonsensical wheel-turning like pissing away ten chapters on sleight-of-hand tricks about how long it will be before Shigaraki is "complete."
(13) Of course, right out of the gate, he tripped and fell on his face so badly that it's probably more apt to compare his performance with Muscular to Hawks' performance with Twice. Both of them go through the same motions of making a perfunctory attempt to persuade a villain to back down from a fight before writing that villain off as a lost cause. The difference is that Hawks was more extreme on both ends–more emotionally invested in getting his villain to surrender, and resorting to more extreme measures when his villain refused. Deku clearly never believed in the questions he was asking Muscular from the start, but he did at least manage to refrain from murdering the man.

I'm not sure why exactly but everything involving the LOV in bnha just feels so much...'more'? Than any other characters in the series. The hero kids and adults don't do it personally most of the time, not that they are bad or anything but even with the traitor reveal everything on the hero side just feels 'less' now? Every plus ultra moment, every smash, cool at first but after a while...With the LOV the quality of the story seems to gain depth with every appearance. Do you think so?
Yeah, I've always thought this. And a lot of people do.
The LOV's characters are far better written in mine (and many) opinions by a wide margin. I think one of the biggest factors in this divide is Shigaraki alone. Because his character arc is by far the best written, most developed, detailed, consistent, you name it--his arc is all of it. So when you have an arc like that in the story, everyone else's seems so.....flat in comparison lol.
But also, on the hero side, I've noticed that things move incredibly slow. On the LOV side, things move really quickly. BIG developments happen within a single chapter.
Take this past chapter (341) for example, look at all the things we learned in a single chapter:
Dabi sees part of himself in Toga
Toga feels sentimental about her family and her past
We learned that Toga has Twice's blood, which immediately ties her and Dabi both to Hawks
Toga used to dream about a red bird, also tying her to Hawks
Shigaraki's body is going haywire and he's probably going to become some insanely overpowered, unstable being due to quirk singularity
Spinner is skeptical about the state Shigaraki is in, and is taking on a role he never asked for, further enabling AFO to keep manipulating the entire situation to his whim
Spinner has some spooky foreshadowing that doesn't look too good for him or Shigaraki's near future
The LOV's individual arcs become more and more clear where they're about to head and how they'll turn out in the end
I mean, that's a lot of stuff to learn in just one chapter. Whereas, let's take chapters 306-319, when Midoriya leaves the hospital to when the kids finally came back into the picture after his solo arc:
We learned who Lady Nagant is
We learned that the HPSC used to have "heroes" murder people on the side
We learned like 3 new quirks for Midoriya
We learned about the first three OFA users' history, which was obvious foreshadowing for Midoriya and Shig
We learned society out in the streets became more dangerous not just from loose criminals, but also from discriminatory acts from civilians just profiling other people based on looks (establishing the whole thing for Spin)
We "learned" (we been knew) that the world is gray and not black and white (hooray for the protag verbalizing this)
And I mean, that was really all we LEARNED. In 13 chapters very very little happened, and hardly any of it is paying off right now where we are currently. Midoriya nearing a break down was necessary for the story and it was necessary to lead into the class going to get him, and then leading into Bakugo's whole thing. But it took so. many. chapters.
Another example of the villain side of things being better handled is the few chapters with S&S and Shigaraki. I mean a LOT happened in those very few chapters too. A lot of stuff that is still currently paying off, and wasn't deemed irrelevant just a few chapters later like a lot of Midoriya's solo arc was.
Also, the hero side of the story is technically the side that's delivering the messages Hori is trying to give, but those messages are impossible to get across without the LOV. So it's like a waiting game, waiting for one side (heroes) to play catch up with the other side (villains) in terms of playing their part. Like the three main kids' arcs beating around the bush when it comes to saving the LOV trio, meanwhile the LOV trio's arcs are ALL at a point where they're practically screaming for the hero kids to catch up to them already.
I think it's just unbalanced kind of. I think in general Hori just excels in writing certain types of characters, and then has to try harder, and in some cases just scrapes by, with other types of characters. It's to be expected with literally any story so it's fine. But I agree that the difference in quality between both sides is really noticeable.
I'll be one to say though that the traitor subplot, in my opinion, really really improved the quality of the hero side of the story. I was seriously surprised by the traitor subplot and how well it contributed to the foreshadowing and just, everything about it I liked (minus the bait and switch with Hagakure, still think that was stupid). But I do think that the hero side's writing is catching up, at least it feels like it to me.
