Finally finished the last chapter of Raise a Breeze so I can fully focus on the first chapter of Galaxies Below (which I’ve already restarted twice)
So in the meantime enjoy some married jukebox ala Bridgerton

Are you going to update Patricia and Eddie’s wedding? Also is it weird to imagine an AU where nina has parents and a brother and sister? Sibuna!
Yeah I’m gonna update! …eventually. I’ve got pieces of the last part written it’s just so disorganized. And tbh I’ve gotten so distracted writing stuff for other fandoms for the last little while, I haven’t gotten around to finishing that even though I know I should. And honestly, I’ve just been feeling STUCK in a LOT of my writing, the right words just don’t seem to come, and i haven’t been able to finish literally anything. I know I should be less hard on myself and just power through, but the writing process has just felt so difficult and frustrating lately. I promise I’ll get to it eventually but like I have a LOT of unfinished projects on my plate
And no, that’s not a weird AU! Tbh I’d love to hear more, it seems like you have some kind of idea in your head

Tumblr media
So… it’s been awhile, but I haven’t forgotten about this blog or my writing, I promise.
My busiest time of work is during the fall to late spring and this year…
Tumblr media
…which has put what little muse I had left on the back burner as I tried to take care of myself amongst the chaos.
But I’m back… maybe? Sort of?
I had my first inkling of an idea the other day and it’s been MONTHS since that happened. The thing is… it’s for nothing I’ve ever written before, so nothing related to Chris or one of his characters.
This blog started out that way and it will continue to he’s that content (still trying to finish Chris and Ellie’s series it’s soooo close), but this blog is going to evolve. It’s going to be the home to all my non-drabble writing. The “drabbles” (in quotes because I do know they aren’t true drabbles but I don’t care) will continue to be on my main blog.
So what is this new idea you ask? A modern day Bridgerton Colin and Penelope story. I’ve been rereading the series this past week in anticipation for Season 3 later this spring and the idea came to me. I tried to ignore it, but as I’m sure my fellow writers know, when you get an idea and it continues to evolve as you ignore it… it kind of wears you down. 🤣
It’s what happened with my story Perfectly Imperfect. I ignored that idea for months, just letting it marinade and then, when I actually decided to write it, I had all but one chapter written in a matter of days.
All of this to say that this blog with be moving into its V2 form, maybe this weekend and maybe later (we’ll see how the ADHD kicks in 🤣)
Thank you to all who have stuck with me during this whole season of no updates. I understand if you decide to unfollow with the changes coming. And I suppose I should welcome anyone new who decides to follow because of said changes.
Regardless, please know that I appreciate any and all of my followers.

There are a lot of fanfictions I've wanted to write over the years but, for one reason or another, never did. So, because I likely won't get around to writing all of them, here they are:
Stupid Cupid | Gil Rizzo
Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies
MC: Cheryl "Cherry" Calhoun
Face Claim: Mia Goth
Trope: Childhood Friends to Enemies to Lovers
I still want to write this one but with the show being cancelled, the excitement has sort of died down and I don't know if my motivation would last long enough to finish it. Paramount + remains Enemy #1.
Summer Nights | Eddie Munson
Stranger Things
MC: Juliette "Jules" Forrester
Trope: Forbidden Love
I'd already written an Eddie-fic based on Season 4 so this was going to be starting from Season 2 and not as involved with the actual plot of the show. But then my obsession with Stranger Things moved on and I never got around to writing it.
The Melancholy Montgomery | Klaus Baudelaire
A Series of Unfortunate Events
MC: Delphine "Delphie" Montgomery
Face Claim: Madison Bailey
Trope: Friends to Lovers
I actually started writing this one but I think its saved on my old laptop, which would be an absolute hassle to try and get onto. I probably wouldn't continue with it anyway just because I'm a lot older than when I started (I think I was 13/14) so the Melancholy Montgomery will unfortunately remain in my head.
Tale as Old as Time | Anthony Bridgerton
Bridgerton
MC: Donatella Sedgewick
Trope: Beauty and the Beast Retelling
Honestly, the motivation for this one is still strong, I just don't have time to start anything new right now so its on the back burner until I do.
Red Ribbon | Kaz Brekker
Six of Crows
MC: Saskia Hertzoon
Trope: Enemies to Lovers
Technically, I didn't even start properly plotting this one, I just got the idea, but I thought I'd include it anyway. I still like the idea and the little story I had planned but the Grishaverse and Six of Crows plot are so complex that I'd have to really put effort in and I've got my hands full enough with Obliviate.
| Leo Valdez
Heroes of Olympus
MC: Adrienne "Addy" Lawrence (Daughter of Nike)
As it turns out, I have 11k words of this already written, so maybe it'll make a comeback when the PJO show comes out. I don't even remember writing for this so who knows why I stopped.
The Daughter of Apollo | Leo Valdez
Heroes of Olympus
MC: Armistice Abner (Daughter of Apollo)
I think I just merged the plot of this one with the Addy Lawrence one, so that's what happened with that. But I do remember liking the name Armistice for a Percy Jackson OC.

👋🏻👋🏻 so you can’t not post something of the hogwarts AU for my babies and no lt expect follow ups 😂
So…
1) was it still Sophie’s first time? If so how did Benedict react?
2) how did Colin end up finding out? Was he any cooler about the entire thing?
3) how do the rest of the Bridgerton’s find out that they’ve gotten together whilst Benedict visited her on her interrailing trip?
4) does she move straight in with him when they get back or does she go back to Aubrey Hollow first?
5) how does Sophie react when/if she learns about the Lucy/Gen/Tessa night and sees them… and about Lucy’s invitation to include her…?
This is it for now… I may be back if I think of more 😂
Of course 😂
It was still Sophie's first time. She had dated during her time interrailing but couldn't ever go through with it as something inside her of held her back from going all the way with anyone. She was frustrated knowing there was a mental block preventing her from properly being with anyone else as her heart still clung onto the tiniest ember of hope that Benedict could ever love her back. She knew she was naive and needed to grow up and get a grip and yet she just couldn't force herself to be intimate with anyone - not until Benedict broke their kissing to breathlessly ask her if she wanted to come back to his room with him. Once they were in his room, with Benedict's shirt stripped off and just before her bralette followed suit, Sophie nervously tensed up. Benedict instantly stopped and asked her if she was okay before she tentatively plucked up the courage to inform him that she had never been with anyone before. He gently asked if she wanted to go any further and told her he'd understand if she didn't but she said she didn't want to stop, she wanted this, and not only did she want him but she trusted him more than anyone else. Honoured that Sophie wanted to have her first time with him, Benedict made sure she was comfortable every step of the way, tenderly taking his time to ensure Sophie wouldn't regret this night together and making sure the pleasure was well worth the wait.
Colin didn't find out about them until well over a year since they had first slept together. They had intended to tell him sooner but the timing just never seemed right and they put it on the back burner. It wouldn't be until Benedict had joined the Awesome Foursome again on their travels along with Anthony, Kate, Simon, and Daphne that Colin was finally put in the loop. They had all gone out for dinner and Colin was chatting to Simon as his soon to be brother-in-law regaled him with just how mad Anthony had been with him for getting together with Daphne. Colin had laughed and commented about how tightly-wound his eldest brother was, throwing in a teasing remark asking what business it was of Anthony's to have any say in Simon and Daphne's relationship. "Yeah exactly. We're all grown adults. I mean Ben and Sophie's relationship doesn't bother you, so why should mine and Daph's be of any mind to him?" Simon had said and took a sip of his beer, completely unaware to the entire table stilling and falling silent around him. "What?" Colin uttered, his face tight with shock. "What did you say?" Simon lowered his glass with a frown, unsure why Colin was staring at him dumbfounded or why Daphne was frantically kicking him in the shin under the table. "Why mine and Daph's relationship should be of any bother to Anthony?" Simon guessed. "No - about Ben and Sophie's relationship?" And suddenly Simon realised his slip-up - that Colin had somehow yet to learn about his brother's relationship with his best friend. Simon's mouth hovered open, unsure of how to continue when suddenly Benedict and Sophie rocked up late to the meal, each of them providing made-up excuses of an overslept nap and a last minute outfit change. "Oh, really? So you two weren't sneaking in a quick fuck before you got here?" Colin's voice pierced through the silence of the table. Sophie and Benedict froze in response to Colin's blunt line of questioning but as soon as they exchanged a look of silent communication and Benedict's hand automatically rested on her lower back, Colin cursed an expletive and jumped to his feet. He went to grab something from his pocket and frowned when he realised his wand wasn't there, turning with a glare to Phillip who had confiscated it preemptively as soon as Simon had slipped up. If he couldn't use magic to express his outrage then physical means would have to do instead but when he made to charge at his brother, Michael jelly-legs jinkxed him. Sophie and Benedict tried to explain but Colin was in too unreasonable a rage to listen and so Kate and Anthony ushered the couple out to give Colin time to calm down. It wouldn't be until the following day that they all sat down (with Kanthony, Saphne, Phillip and Michael all playing mediators) that Colin begrudgingly came to terms with the fact that Benedict had fallen in love with his best friend and that they made each other happy.
Violet and Edmund would have twigged with Benedict's multiple trips out to join the gang that there was something more going on than just their second eldest wanting to hang out with his brother. They were well aware of Benedict's letters to and from Sophie, and every time he came back from his visits abroad all he seemed to talk about was Sophie. "And how's your brother doing?" they would ask once he had managed to finish wittering away about Sophie. "Colin? Yeah he's fine, whatever." Benedict would shrug off, oblivious to the state of his feelings for Sophie. When he came home after finally getting together with her, he arrived at Aubrey Hollow with a grin so big that his parents knew exactly what he was about to tell them. He gave the more in-depth story to Anthony, who was shocked to learn about the new relationship between his brother and Sophie, though when he thought about it the pairing made complete and perfect sense. The rest of the family were made up for the new couple after Violet and Edmund told the rest of the children (minus Colin of course) about Benedict being in a relationship with Sophie, with Francesca snorting "took him long enough" in response to the news.
When Sophie and the boys decided to come home she had initially planned to move back to Aubrey Hollow but when Benedict heard this she saw his face fall. When she asked him what was wrong he admitted he was about to propose she move in with him, though he understood if she wasn't quite ready yet, he just couldn't wait to have her back home and see her all the time and loved the thought of sharing his flat with her. Sophie then told him she had only planned to move back to Aubrey Hollow because she didn't know moving in with him would be an option for them yet - but that if he was sure then she would love nothing more than to move in, an answer which had Benedict swinging her around and kissing her in celebration.

20 questions game for fic writers
tagged by @strideofpride!
1. How many works do you have on ao3? 9
2. What’s your total ao3 word count? 153,297
3. What fandoms do you write for? derry girls at the moment, though i do have one lonely bridgerton fic.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? an intervening suitor, smoke break, making moves, someday, personal space
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? yes, always. it means a lot to me when someone takes the time to comment and, as a commenter who likes when the author responds, i like to be the author that responds! there was a short period of time last fall after derry girls season 3 came out on netflix when i felt pretty overwhelmed by the engagement with my fic and i let myself take a break from responding then, but i'm more on top of it now.
6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? smoke break
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? i think i might be writing it now with someday, but of the fics i've completed, i think in their thirties has the happiest ending (sorry making moves, y'all are definitely breaking up in a couple of years).
8. Do you get hate on fics? nope.
9. Do you write smut? If so what kind? not at the moment. writing good smut is a skill that i think i would need to spend a lot more time developing. that said, i'm in the very early stages of working on a WIP that has a pretty sex-heavy premise so maybe i'll give it a try soon.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve ever written? nope!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? i don't think so.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? not that i know of!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? i have collaborated significantly - making moves - but i've never actually co-written. that's also a skill i would need to develop. i worry i would end up being an asshole to someone i care about since i don't like to compromise on creative decisions if i have a specific vision in mind. that said, i have loved my experience developing fic plot and characters with friends (which imo is a type of co-writing), so maybe the next step is full on co-writing.
14. What’s your all-time favorite ship? my favorite ship to write is jerin, if that isn't obvious. i don't even know how to begin to decide what my favorite ship of all time is.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? if i publish something online, i'll finish it eventually. no WIP left behind. but there are definitely ideas/half-written fics in my gdocs that i don't know i'll ever get back around to. there's something new i just started working on and have already put on the back burner for someday and i'm already wondering if i’ll ever finish it even if the vibes are impeccable and i've written some stuff in it that hits so good. but who knows.
16. What are your writing strengths? i'm very good at writing exactly what i want to read. taste and skill don't always match up, but they do a lot (and increasingly more so, the more i write) and i find that really fun and gratifying.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? i am very impatient. i always underestimate how long something will take me to write, and then get frustrated with myself when it's taking too long or i think the writing should be moving faster. i think i've moved too quickly past parts that needed more work because of this, which is frustrating when i go back and re-read past chapters (i'm thinking specifically of someday which i am tempted to re-write almost constantly). but i'm getting better at it. maybe i'm not getting not less impatient, but at least more persistent.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? i mean if the fic called for it i could probably swing it in russian.
19. First fandom you ever wrote for? harry potter. my bad james/lily fic is now out there on ao3 after the site where i published in high school got archived a couple of years back, but i'll never claim it. i re-read something recently, though, and it was surprising how much i could recognize my current writing voice in it. the more things change the more they stay the same.
20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written? this changes, but right now it's smoke break. i just re-read it over the weekend and, while it's not perfect, it still scratches a very particular itch. i'm also very proud of in their thirties.

I absolutely adore your benophie fics!! I noticed that you mentioned having thoughts on a aofag rewrite. You don’t have to of course, but I’d be so happy if you’d be willing to share! Thanks so much for sharing your amazing writing <3
Hello!
Ack! Your kindness is making me feel all gushy 🥹
I do indeed have an AOFAG rewrite project called 'Let Me Be Your Anchor'. Basically, I started writing Bridgerton fanfic because I was motivated to 'fix' the things I didn't like about AOFAG. I mapped out a whole multichapter rewrite, got about 3/4 finished, and inevitably other ideas took hold. I have been writing a bunch of other stories and this has taken a back burner.
But, some very sweet folks such as yourself have expressed an interest in reading it, so I am motivated to finish it! I would start sharing now, except I haven't finished the first two chapters lol. I have basically written the middle but need to write the beginning and end. Once finished, it wont be a full fic per se, because there are still scenes and chunks from the book that I want to keep, so it will be more like a series of scenes interspersed with notes that explain how I would adapt AOFAG for my head canon.
I want a Benophie love story where Sophie has more agency and Benedict is the kind, soulful artist from the show, not a pushy jerk; where the other Bridgerton siblings are more involved and where there are a lot more steamy encounters 😊 Thanks to you, it is coming! Bear with me and I will start posting chapters at some point.
Thank you again! To know other folks would want to read this is beyond fulfilling 💙

All right, so today and tomorrow on Bella Talks Writing, I'm going to talk about the two fics I'm currently working on. (Nothing I've started has been back-burnered. But, these are the two that I have been actively writing on for the past several days). Today, that's going to be Let's Run Away Together.
What if Kate hadn't run away after that night in the gazebo? What if Anthony realized and admitted his true feelings a bit sooner?
After a few hours of passion, Anthony realizes that he cannot let Kate slip away from him. And he is through sacrificing everything for everyone else. It's time he and Kate both learned to live their own lives and go after what they wanted. One trip to Gretna Green later and the ton has a whole lot to talk about.
Pretty sure this was from another Twitter prompt. Anthony proposes the night in the gazebo and Kate accepts. For various reasons, they decide to elope. Lady Danbury actually becomes their biggest ally in this. I've gotten them through the wedding and the wedding night, so far. And then went back and showed some of what has been going on while they were gone.
I am personally loving how supportive Lady Danbury and the Bridgertons are. The Bridgertons are bending over backwards to find ways to welcome Kate and make her feel wanted. It's kind of adorable. Meanwhile, Kate and Anthony spent a large portion of the four day journey to Gretna Green having some much needed very long talks. (Though, I did not write most of those talks, due to planning on including them in another fic, and not wanting to be redundant.)
Right now, I'm having trouble writing the next chapter. I have an idea of some of what I want to have happen in it, but the transitions are kicking my ass, and I'm not sure I like what I have written of some of the more emotional scenes. So, me being me, I skipped ahead, and actually have a rather large chunk of the chapter after that written.
Kate's reaction to the Bridgertons being so sweet and welcoming is... not what they expected. The poor girl is seriously overwhelmed. And Violet and Anthony have started some much needed talks of their own about their relationship.
I have plans for this. I know where it's going. There are some rather interesting discussions between Lord and Lady Bridgerton and the Sharmas coming up. Anthony is not at all happy with his in-laws, and isn't afraid to tell them that. I have a conversation between Edwina and Queen Charlotte planned for during the first ball they attend, when Edwina finally really notices Kate. The start of her coming around is going to be quite beautiful, if I do say so myself.
But, now I also need a bit of help, LOL. I'm thinking of having at least Hyacinth and Gregory take to calling Kate "Didi". But, that begs the question of what Kate would call Benedict, Colin, and Gregory as term of endearment? What would she and Anthony call each other? And what will she ask to have Auggie call her? I know absolutely nothing of her native language, and trying to find this is giving me a migraine.
Anyway, the next chapter will be up as soon as I can figure out how to actually work the darn thing. And the one after that will probably not be much later, since it's already much closer to being written. You can find it here

Recently read: I dug into my TBR to pull out some historicals in honor of Bridgerton’s new season premiering! I’ll probably by on a historical romance binge for the next week or two trying to live off the high from S2 for as long as possible. Anyway, let’s get into it.
A Lesson In Vengeance by Victoria Lee is what happens when you write a book about ~vIbEs~ but don’t actually stop and consider if those vibes makes sense with the world you establish. It’s sapphic dark academia centered around witches, which should be all kinds of awesome, but the setting ruined it. Why are a bunch of rich 17-year-olds talking like the belong in a MFA or PhD program and quoting obscure lit theory while pretending they like whisky? Set this is college and it would’ve been fine. I still would’ve been annoyed by the pretension and all the tea and tweed, but at least the characters would have fit in that world. I had very conflicted feelings about the book, because it was pretty readable and the purple prose was tolerable, but the story itself was muddled and the witches/magic storyline was disappointing. (★★)
I continued my foray into the world of big blue aliens with the second book in the series, Barbarian Alien. I liked it better than the first book and the smut was A+, but it’s still absolutely ridiculous and I will 1000% be reading more. (★★★)
Adored Scandal Takes The Stage by Eva Leigh! It’s a bit of a slow burner, but the characters are fun and it’s a fairly light historical romp. (★★★.75)
The Highwayman is my first Kerrigan Byrne novel and won’t be my last... not just because I still have three more of her novels to go in my pile (thanks library sale)! I really liked this one. Sexy, a little dark, emotional. I’ve already started my second book of hers and she seems to like getting into darker issues than other authors I’ve read, so it’ll be interesting to see how that goes! (★★★★)

Hello 🥰 so tomorrow is my birthday and i wanted to known if you could write something for benedict and sophie and their children, very fluff but maybe smutty at the end?
But if you're busy or can't do it, just ignore my ask 😂
My Goodness! Happy Birthday!! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 I really hope I didn't miss it!
In Honour of your birthday: Some Benedad and Mama Sophie Goodness!
Sophie had long been of the opinion that anyone could learn to cook. After all, she'd learned to cook in a tiny flat where the oven worked unevenly and only one gas burner worked. But eventually even she'd had to give up on Benedict. Her husband had many fine skills, but none of them were in the kitchen. She'd come home one day and seen Charlie in the hallway, his Golden Retriever Geoff lounging over his lap, his tail wagging as Charlie ran his fingers through his fur.
"Charlie, honey, where's Daddy and Alex?" She'd said scouting around for her husband and younger son.
Charlie had shrugged "In the kitchen." And Sophie wasn't proud of the way she dropped her handbag and scampered through the hallway bursting through the door.
"Ben, Honey, Hi! Do you need something in here?!" Sophie practically shouted, eager to avoid another of her husband's culinary disasters, the smell of the burnt pan from his alleged pasta still fresh in her mind.
Ben was standing in front of the fridge, Their one year old Alexander on his hip, his pen behind his ear, a look of mild amusement on his face when he said
"I was just getting some juice? I can probably manage that much."
Personally, Sophie doubted it.
And now, she was determined, that her sons would not follow the same path as their father. Her sons were going to be good in the kitchen. And lord knows she'd tried. She had taken them into her restaurant, in the morning before lunch service started and let them stand on her feet while she cooked, guided their hands while they mixed and stirred. And they were... Unmoved. Well, Charlie was, Alex was a little too young to do anything but sit on the bench and watch. So she'd given up for the most part, resigned to her life as a chef and restaurant owner with a husband and children who could not cook, quietly burning with jealousy that her sister in law Kate's children clamoured to help her when she was cooking.
But Sophie was determined that this at least should be a family affair. She'd waited, until Benedict had had to go to Scotland for a shoot, and made an excuse as to why she couldn't take the boys with him, and then she'd started cooking.
Alex was perched on the countertop watching everything go by with keen interest that reminded Sophie a little too much of Anthony, truth be told. Charlie sighing sadly as he stood on his step to reach the countertop.
"Do I have to help, Mummy? I wanted to teach Geoff a new trick."
Sophie eyed Geoff already nosing innocently about should any stray food land.
"Charlie, we're going to make Daddy a cake. It'll be fun."
"But I'm not good at it." Charlie whined, stamping his little foot and Sophie's heart clenched. She hated seeing her children unhappy, even for a moment but she stayed firm.
"Sweetheart, sometimes we have to practice things we aren't good at to get better. Okay? Think how happy Daddy will be when he comes home tonight."
Charlie pouted adorably, forcibly reminding her of the petulant expression Ben got when he didn't get his way, biting back a laugh. "Okay, now we're going to measure the flour. We need 2 cups so, two of these." She said gently guiding his hand, "Good, now put it in the-" But before she could even get it out, Alex had shot his pudgy fist out and knocked it from his brother's hand sending flour over every surface. Charlie looked aghast.
Sophie sighed, wiping the flour from her glasses, "Right."
Three hours later Sophie was very nearly at her wits end. She'd fished egg shell out of the bowl, stopped the butter from burning, siphoned out the excess milk, which then got upended over her head after she'd bent down to collect something and Alex had seen fit to push it from the counter, Geoff scooting forward to give her a lick. She'd sent Charlie upstairs to wait for a bath to remove the blue icing that had somehow gotten caked in his hair and was now staring dejectedly down at her cake, vision completely unrealised as she sighed to Geoff.
"Well, this is really on me for not making a back up."
"Well, Well, Well, Sophie Beckett covered head to toe in cake, truly almost good enough to eat." Her husband's voice floated towards her, sending her heart skittering around the kitchen as she spun towards him, forcing herself to arch her eyebrow.
"That's not my name anymore."
Benedict grinned delightedly, his eyes shining down at her. "No. it's not. Still good enough to eat though." Their lips finally meeting a little roughly.
"Welcome home." Sophie said when she pulled back, her arms tight around his waist, ruining the sweater he was wearing most likely. "How was Scotland?"
Ben pouted, a hilarious mirror of Charlie hours ago. "I don't like working with this new girl."
Sophie Chuckled, "Well, Eddie still works with you occasionally, and she was there right?"
"It's not the- Is that a Pelican cake?" He cut himself off, his brow furrowed as he looked back to Sophie.
Sophie's stomach swooped, In hindsight perhaps she should have done the finer detailing of the decorations herself.
"Not... Quite."
Ben turned towards the cake studying it curiously, the very sloppily written Congrats Daddy Charlie's hand guided by hers.
"Have I won something I don't know about yet?" His voice curious and then he laughed "I have to say the fact that you made this disaster cake makes me really very happy!"
Sophie scoffed despite the nerves fluttering in her stomach, "Your sons made that disaster cake I was practically held hostage by your genes."
"Still though, Congrats?" His eyes darkening suddenly. "Mrs Bridgerton, did you have our sons make a congrats on the sex cake?! Is that my welcome home?" His tone faux scandalised, his hands already tugging at her waist again.
Sophie took a deep breath, "It's not a pelican. It's a Stork."
Benedict's eyes turned curious for a second staring at her and then his mouth fell open.
"You're-?"
Sophie nodded, a smile fighting its way to her lips, and she barely had tie to breathe before Benedict swept forward, his arms around her waist as he spun her around the kitchen, whooping happily.
"This is my favourite cake you've ever made. Pelican and all." He whispered in her ear as he set her gently against the countertop, grinning down at her with tears in his eyes.
And Sophie couldn't help the tears in her own eyes when she said "Just look out if you try and eat it, there's still a lot of eggshell in there."

My Season 2 of Bridgerton Thoughts
Please keep in mind I did not read any of the books and I am solely a tv only watcher with limited knowledge of book!canon.
Overall, I really did enjoy the season. I had a fun time, I knew to go into this not expecting the same level of spice as season 1 (no consistent-sex-over-time montage like Daph and Simon) which was a bummer, but I also knew the couple didn't get married until the final episode (thanks spoilers) so my disappointment wasn't that strong.
But, here is a collective dump of all my thoughts - good and bad.
Pro: Kate and Edwina's relationship pre-episode 6 was great; I loved how much Kate and Edwina loved each other. I think it really shows the Older Sibling Struggle of Kate loving her sister so much and wanting her to have everything, and putting herself on the back burner for the sake of her sister and her sister's happiness.
Con: Which makes it so much more disappointing with how the events of the season took their relationship episode 6 and on. Edwina truly believing she was in love with Anthony made me, as the watcher, feel bad for rooting for Kate and Anthony. Edwina realizing her beloved sister was sharing these longing stares with her fiance at her wedding is like a stab to the gut. From my understanding, book!Edwina wasn't really that taken by Anthony; whereas here she's literally in her wedding dress ready to say 'i do'; had Kate not dropped her bangle and Edwina witnessed the two's so obvious looks of affection, they would have 100% gotten married.
Pro: One of the few spoilers I knew of the book was that during the bee scene, Anthony does something a bit more forward with Kate and her bee sting, which forces them to marry to avoid a scandal as they're caught by their mamas and Lady Featherington. NOW, I truly am glad that they did not do another 'forced marriage to avoid scandal before the two realize their feelings' thing like they did in season 1. I didn't want to watch a show that did that trope back to back.
Con: But I was still expecting Anthony and Kate to get engaged somehow, without hurting Edwina. Forcing a love triangle ruined the relationship between Kate and Edwina, and I didn't want that. Edwina calling Kate her 'half' sister in episode 6 stung. I don't think Edwina would go for such a low blow. Edwina immediately makes up with Kate after Kate wakes up from her accident, and then that's the end of it. I just personally would have preferred no love triangle; half of me honestly thought that Edwina would reveal mid-season that she's fallen for Mr. Dorset or whatever his name was and there would be no engagement to Anthony, but nope. Hopes were dashed.
Pro: Simone Ashley really was a fantastic addition to the cast, and the entire season they kept mentioning how the future Vicountess would be the one looking over the Bridgerton children, presenting them to society in future seasons, etc; so the very real prospect of seeing more of Simone as Kate and seeing more of her and Anthony's marriage develop in future seasons is so super exciting.
Con: For a season that is supposed to be about Anthony and Kate's love story, it only felt like we got them 65-55% of the time. This is THEIR season and it felt so crowded by other subplots. Now, even in season 1 their was a wide variety of subplots, but they all still felt vaguely connected to the main couple. Here we had that completely random subplot with the Featherington cousin (who, I originally thought, was hired by Penelope. In that first episode with him the camera kept flashing to her at dinner watching him, and I at first thought Penelope had learned the actual cousin was not coming, so Penelope employed someone to pose as their cousin from the Americas as a way to move the Whistledown money into the family estate and save her family from poverty. It's fantastical, but to be fair I didn't read the books so I have no idea how Pen is actually supposed to get the money to her family without them finding out), as well as Benedict getting high on tea and being mad that Anthony made a donation to his art school, part of an episode dedicated to just Collin visiting Marina???, and Penelope's Whistledown antics with the Modiste! Quick check ins with other characters is fine, but so many episodes had these subplots overshadow our main couple.
Pro: one subplot though that I did actually enjoy was Eloise and Theo. I've heard some horror stories on Eloise's book, and how out of character she is when it came to her marrying Phillip Crane (also heard about how Phillip Crane is an asshole and Eloise deserves more), so the sweetness of Theo and how much these two connected made me so happy. You bet your ass I'm gonna be searching for some Eloise/Theo fanfics. I love the idea of Eloise being with a man who appreciates her mind and her opinions, who supports her and also supports all women. Theo is the blueprint. And you know what, if Benedict can marry below his class with his future Cinderella Story romance, Eloise should be allowed the same. Fuck Phillip Crane; I am a Theo stan from here on out.
Con: My thoughts are everywhere, but back to Kate and how the plot with her and Anthony was overshadowed; I would have loved more background on her. We got flashbacks on Anthony, but what about Kate? Where is her backstory? I know it's another actor to cast & pay, but I would have loved a scene with her and her father before he passed, or her discussing her past just a tiny bit more. I wanted more of her overall.
Pro: The chemistry between Johnny and Simone was off the chats, I loved every single longing look and hand touch between Anthony and Kate. Despite wanting more scenes of their developing feelings, the scenes we did get I loved to pieces and was so eager for the next scene to end just for the hope that we'd see more Anthony and Kate next.
Con: Kate rejecting Anthony's marriage proposal in episode 8, after the two of them made it all but obvious in the previous 2 episodes that they both had feelings for each other, including the two having sex in the garden (not piv though, just oral), was just annoying honestly. She thinks Anthony is only asking her because they had sex, but I mean???? Kate isn't dumb, she's not dense, and we spent all season and ALL of the previous 2 episodes with EVERYONE recognizing IN FRONT OF THEM that Kate and Anthony have feelings for each other. Like it's obvious Anthony isn't asking her out of obligation. And he accuses Kate of running away when she rejects the proposal, while Kate later tells Mary that Anthony only proposed out of obligation. It was just messy. Maybe this would have been better played had we gotten more on Kate and her backstory. Why exactly is she running at this point?? Give me more context!!!
But even with all my cons, I still really did enjoy the season overall. Season 1 was a solid 8.5/10, but I would probably rate this one at an 8/10, maybe a 7.8/10. I think season 1 still works better because the focus on the main couple was a lot more prominent, and I think that needs to be the #1 selling point of the season. Kate and Anthony not being front and center in their own season really kept it from surpassing season 1.
I really hope they find some better footing in season 3 with how they balance their subplots and the main couple. I saw online they're greenlit until at least season 4, so we'll see how they go from here.

rowaelin the only single person in the friend group?
AN:Enjoy!
The Singles Club Isn’t Always Lonely
As Rowan entered the local bar, he shook rain from his coat and hair.  For the past two days it had seemed like constant cloud coverage lingered and that meant rain.  Not that Rowan particularly minded the rain.  It just grew tiresome.  He had yet to find a reason to fully rejoice in it.
He waved to Brullo, the bartender, and headed back to the usual table where he and his friends usually took over.  Indeed, Vaughan and Connall were seated drinks in hand and in deep conversation about something.  Gavriel and Fenrys were shooting darts—Gav wiping Fenrys’ ass with the score.  Though Fenrys was always more in it for the social aspect than the competitive nature.
“Well, look who finally showed up,” Connall called when he looked up to see Rowan crossing the bar towards them.
Shooting his friend a vulgar gesture, Rowan took a seat in one of the stool and drew a freshly opened beer towards him.
“I should ask you all the same question,” Rowan grunted.  He took a swig of beer and sighed.  “Between wives and girlfriends, I thought you’d all bail on meeting up.”
“Hell, no!” Fenrys shot a wild dart and came to sling an arm over Rowan’s shoulder. “Tradition.  As Asterin so lovingly reminds me, I need to spend more time with you losers.  I think it’s just so she can go to the shooting range with Manon and Elide, but you know.”
“Nehemia says that I’m hovering,” Connall said.  “As if I can hover.  She’s seven months pregnant, I should be allowed to be concerned.”
“You’ve texted six times in the last half hour, man,” Vaughan said.  He pointed meaningfully to his friend's phone.
Connall scowled. “Concerned.”
“Hovering,” Rowan said.  He took another drin.
“You have to let her live her life still, Con,” Gavriel said.  He plucked the round of darts from the board and turned back to his friends. “When Endara was pregnant with Aedion she and Evalin would go on week long spa getaways.”
Connall looked absolutely horrified. “But—”
“No,” Gavriel insisted.  “Space and foot rubs.”
“That contradicts itself,” Connall muttered.
“Just saying,” Gavriel said.
Sometimes, Rowan found it hard to believe that Gavriel had a son their same age.  Sometimes, Rowan found it hard to believe that Gavriel was as old as he was.  Of course, he would never say it to the man’s face.  Because getting his ass kicked was not on his list of things to do.
“This is why Rolfe and I communicate,” Vaughan said.  He grabbed Connall’s phone before he could check it for a nonexistent text.
“You and boyfriend have a very strange definition of communication,” Fenrys said. “You also need to lock your front door.”
“You need to knock,” Vaughan said unapologetically.
Rowan rolled his eyes at his friend's antics. “Where’s Salvaterre?  Why am I on the chopping block.”
“Because he texted,” Vaughan said emphatically, “that he would be late.”
“Elide had an important meeting at work and he wanted to take her out for ice cream after,” Fenrys grumbled. “They’re almost as disgusting as Conn and Mia.”
“See,” Rowan finally spoke up, “this is why I am remaining single.”
The group groaned, throwing peanut husks at him while telling him to grow up.  Rowan simply laughed.  It was a conversation they’d all tried to have with him.  Get a girlfriend Rowan.  Go out on more dates Rowan.  You work too much Rowan.
He knew they were just giving him a hard time.  For the most part.  But he also couldn’t help but let the words dig into his skin.
They’d miraculously been through a lot together.  Despite the age differences between them all, something had drawn them together with a love of history, hand-to-hand combat, and drunken nights of poker.
“Hey, assholes!” Lorcan entered the bar and exchanged a few words with Brullo before coming to the table.
“‘Bout time, man,” Connall called.  He kicked a stool out for the other man.
“I was supporting my girlfriend,” Lorcan said, “shouldn’t you be with your wife?”
“Shouldn’t you be asking Elide to marry you?” Connall shot back.
Lorcan launched into a coughing fit just as he took a drink of beer. “What?”
“It’s been two months and all we’ve heard from you is how great this girl is.  Coming from you that’s practically a wedding announcement,” Rowan added, grinning fiendishly when Lorcan’s face heated
“Yeah, you know, speaking of relationships, I haven’t seen you taking anyone out lately,” Lorcan groused.
Before Rowan could either shoot Lorcan the finger or snark back to him, Brullo arrived with another round of beer.
The rest of the night passed in easy conversation punctuated Fenrys’ claims that at the next poker night he would win every hand.  Granted he was on his third beer as he said this.
It was just like any other night.  And yet by the time midnight rolled around, he listened as his friends claimed necessity to return to domesticity.
Nehemia had cravings.  Elide, Manon, and Asterin were drunk and needed a ride.  Rolfe threatened to watch Bridgerton alone.  And Endara claimed Gavriel had left her kitchen a mess.
Life as it should be was chaos.  And while Rowan knew he wouldn’t have it any other way, as he paid off the tab with Brullo—consequence of a lost bet—he found himself facing a night of pouring rain and a semi-drunk Connall to haul around.

When Aelin Galathynius swore a life of solitude, it was for a good reason.  She’d recently adopted a dog after all and Fleetfoot needed her undivided attention.
Now, five years later, she regretted nothing.  Especially when Fleetfoot was such an excellent snuggling companion.
While her apartment was small, and admittedly shabby, it was home.  Had been since she’d moved out of last foster home five years ago.  Almost every single one of her friends had lived with her in that time.  From Manon deeming it for your own good so you don’t end up murdered in this hellish part of town, to Elide claiming that I have no idea how to live by myself, you have to help me.
The apartment had known many people.  Had known fights and tears.  Had known emotional breakdowns and dance parties.
And yet, as Aelin came home from work on a glorious Friday evening, it felt empty.  Even with Fleetfoot eagerly dancing around her feet.  Even as she hooked on the leash and took a brisk walk around the block with Fleetfoot bounding along joyfully.  Even when she returned home and turned her music on while she made dinner.
Empty.
Only the pouring rain outside gave any indication of the outside world.
Aelin turned her music up louder.
Perhaps it would have been so bad if Elide were here with her.  Or Nehemia.  Any of her friends.  But it was date night and she knew just how much her friends had been missing their boys.
Elide worked so much and she’d recently started dating Lorcan Salvaterre they barely saw each other.  Nehemia was having a baby with the love of her life.  And then even though she and Asterin weren’t the closest, Aelin did miss her drinking buddy.  And Yrene was so busy with her internship that all she had time for was her new marriage.
Aelin couldn’t have been happier for her friends, truly.  They were all living their best lives.  And so was Aelin.
She’d graduated with her degree in history, specializing in warfare and weaponry.  Now she was teaching part-time at a community college and part of a research team that was working an archeology dig out in Wendlyn.  Everything she’d wanted.  Everything she’d worked so hard to get.
Life was good.  Or so she kept telling herself.
“You really need to start locking your door!”
Aelin turned from the mess of spaghetti she was trying to make to find Elide, Asterin, and Manon entering her apartment.  She held a spatula out threateningly.
“You can't just barge into people’s apartments,” Aelin said.
“We can if the door’s unlocked,” Manon replied.  She wasted no time in kicking off her shoes and tossing her jacket onto Aelin’s couch. “Please tell me you have wine.”
“What’d Dorian do now?” Aelin asked as Manon easily went to the kitchen and found the bottle of wine.  Not the cheap stuff.
“Nothing,” Manon grumbled.
Asterin barked out a laugh.  “He brought up meeting his parents.”
“And moving in together,” Elide added.
Manon brandished the corkscrew threateningly. “Don’t make me use this.”
Chuckling, Aelin turned the burners of her stove off. “It’s Dorian.  You can tell him no to both things and he’ll get it.”
Manon grunted and began chugging her very full glass of wine.
“Lorcan mentioned moving in together,” Elide said. Wine spurted from Manon’s nose and Elide rolled his eyes. “Eventually.  He didn’t actually ask just one of those brief passing comments.”
“You know, I still don’t like him,” Aelin said.  She dished up a few bowls of pasta and started handing them out.
“Please the two of you are practically besties,” Elide said.  She gave Aelin a wink before settling in a chair at the small dining room table.
“Speaking of besties,” Asterin added, “Fenrys just sent me a text.  They are getting wasted at the bar.”
“Is Gav with them?” Elide asked through a mouthful of pasta.
“Yeah, thank the Goddess,” Asterin said.  “I don’t want to pick his drunk ass up.”
Manon made an approving sound and poured herself another glass of wine. “Because we are getting ourselves drunk.”
Aelin debated taking the wine away from Manon already, but shrugged.  She needed a distraction from everything else.  Before sitting down, she grabbed a bottle of whiskey she kept in case of emergencies and few glasses.  It was girl’s night, why not?
“You do know you’re going to have to talk to Dorian, eventually right?” Aelin asked, pouring out whiskey.
“Shush,” Manon said. “Talking is overrated.  We’ll just have sex and get over it.”
Aelin made a face. “I’d rather not think of you and one of my best friends in that way.”
“It’s sex!” Manon shouted. “C’mon, Aelin.  I know it can’t have been that long since you slept with someone.”
Aelin rolled her eyes.  She most certainly should have taken the wine away.  Wine drunk Manon was a whole different animal than whiskey drunk Manon.
“Ohh,” Elide said, already pushing back her half-eaten bowl of pasta for the whiskey. “I might know of someone.  Actually, Lorcan knows him.”
“No!” Aelin shouted at the same time Asterin screeched, “yes!”
“He’s very attractive,” Elide said with a knowing nod.
“And works out, a ton,” Asterin added. “He and Fen are training for a marathon.”
Aelin didn’t know whether to be impressed or horrified.  She worked out and believed in a healthy lifestyle.  But she also believed in chocolate.  And cake.
Even as her friends slid side-glances her direction, Aelin ignored them.  They’d been hounding her to date more.  Ever since Sam had broken up with her when she wouldn’t move across the country with him and the mess with Chaol...Aelin hadn’t been in a serious relationship.  And she was fine.  Did she miss casual dates? Yes.  Someone she could talk to about everything and anything?  Yes.  Did she miss sex?  Absolutely.
On the last item she could rectify that easily.  Just swing by the nearest club, but Aelin had always craved connection more than casualties.
She knocked back her shot of whiskey and nabbed the bottle from Manon who was well on her way to drunk.
Elide laughed at Aelin’s diversion from talking and got up to turn Aelin’s stereo up.
“You’ve gotta find a way to support Fleetfoot,” the petite brunette said, “being a single mom is hard.”
“Screw you!” Aelin growled.
“Pretty sure Lorcan’s already taking care of that,” Asterin said.
“No!” Manon and Aelin shouted together.
Cackling madly, Elide downed her whiskey and began dancing.  It didn’t take long before all four girls were drunk and dancing madly to the music.  And Aelin was able to forget everything else about the day and little comments her friends had made.
It wasn’t until after midnight that Lorcan and Fenrys showed up to take the other girl’s home.  Fenry, a bit tipsy himself.
“Baby!” Elide squealed when she threw open the door.
Had Aelin been a touch more wasted she would have missed the soft smile that flitted across Lorcan’s face as his girlfriend flung herself at him.  Aelin might not have understood where the hell that relationship had come from but she was slowly starting to accept it.
“Be safe,” Aelin demanded as she ushered her drunk friends out the door, Lorcan assuring her he had only drank one beer over an hour ago.
“Get a Tinder!” Asterin hollered as Aelin closed the door.
And just like that, she was left to an empty apartment.

When Rowan got into the business of researching ancient warfare and artifacts of war, he’d known it would give him hell in the future.  Not that he would regret it of course, but for the past five years he’d dealt with questioning papers, developing thesis, tossing out said thesis, and trying to appear that he knew what he was doing.
It was a miracle if he could accomplish that last item.
By the time he made it home from work, he was exhausted.  The text from Elide--how she’d gotten his number Rowan had no idea--declaring a night out didn’t help any.  But it had been a few weeks since he and his friend--all his friends had gotten together.
So he dragged his sorry hide into a shower and down to Brullo’s bar.
And just like always he was the last to arrive.
“Whitethorn!” Vaughan called out.
Rowan raised his hand in recognition before getting a drink from Brullo.
Already, his friends had their drinks and their girls--and in Vaughan’s case, boy.  Nothing about the night seemed far from normal.  Even if Rowan wasn’t as familiar with Asterin or Rolfe, being around this group of people always put him at ease.
“You look like hell, Rowan,” Nehemia said with a sympathetic smile.  She wore a simple gray dress that showed off her growing bump, her black hair twisted in thick braids.
Rowan offered a returning smile. “It was a hellish day.”
Connall thrust a beer into his hands. “Here’s to make it better.  Although my lovely wife has already graced you with her presence, so consider yourself lucky.”
Rolling his eyes, Rowan shoved his friend away. “How much have you had to drink?”
“Too much,” Loran supplied.  As usual he was seated in the corner of their table, nursing a beer.
“Where’s Elide?” Rowan asked. “Seeing as she’s the one who made me come.”
Lorcan gestured out to the dance floor.  The dance floor.  Since when did Brullo let anyone start dancing?  Not in the past five years that Rowan and his friends had come.  Unless one of them or another patron got too drunk.
But there was some song with a deep, thrumming beat reverberated through the bar.  Someone must have bribed Brullo to put it on.  Likely the fiends who were dancing like they had no care in the world.
Fenrys and Asterin were practically glued together and were less dancing and more making out.  Nearby Gavriel and Endara were mostly laughing while tripping over their feet to keep with the beat of the song.  What caught Rowan’s attention however was Elide.
Or rather her dance partner.
The woman was tall, lean, and had the frame of a fighter.  She moved so easily to the music that Rowan was focused on her more than the song.  Her blond hair hung well past her shoulders in golden waves matching her gold dress perfectly.  But perhaps what was so striking was the carefree smile she wore.  The way she laughed and leaned into Elide as the song changed to a sultrier chord.  But neither woman seemed to notice, or care.
Until the blonde looked up and the low lights emitting from the dance floor set a low fire to her eyes and dug into him, holding him in place.  And his breath caught.
Elide broke the spell that had settled over him.
“Rowan!” She yelled and waved frantically for him to join the dancing.
“No,” Rowan called back firmly.  The last time he had decided to go dancing with Elide he had ended up shirtless, hungover, and in a car halfway to Mexico.
Elide pouted at him before crooking her finger to her boyfriend.  Lorcan was already up and out of his seat making his way toward her.  It was still strange to Rowan to see the brute of a man soften for anyone.
Shaking his head, Rowan returned to the bar to get another drink.
“Can I get something as well, Brullo?” The airy confidence of the woman, snagged Rowan’s attention and he turned to see the Elide’s former dance partner standing beside him.
From this angle, Rowan was better able to see that spark of gold and blue in her eyes, a splash of freckles on her nose.  She was beautiful.
“You must be Rowan,” she said with a single brow raised.
He nodded and accepted a beer from Brullo. “I am, but I don’t seem to know you.”
Her mouth pulled up on one side. “Aelin.  Elide and I grew up together.  Figured since I never see her anymore, I had to come see what this place is all about.”
“Elide dragged you out here, didn’t she?” Rowan asked.
“She is terrifying when she wants to be,” Aelin agreed.  She offered him a full grin in that instant and Rowan knew that if possible, he would try and make her smile like that again. “And she offered to pay my tab.”
“Meaning Lorcan will be paying your tab,” Rowan said.
“He does have his uses, other than being a brute.” Aelin laughed at that and took the drink Brullo offered her.  She turned her gaze on him, those eyes so full of light. “I suppose I should get used to him though.  Elide seems to like him.”
She wasn’t wrong Rowan realized.  “Anyone that can get Lorcan to actually get out and dance is a miracle worker.”
“Except, she didn’t get you out there dancing,” Aelin said.  She let out a soft laugh leaning closer to him.
And there it was, something different.  And perhaps Rowan wouldn’t identify it for a long time.  Wouldn’t really know what it was.  But there was something about Aelin that drew him in.  He’d known her for all of ten minutes, didn’t even know her last name, and here he was completely ensnared.
“I don’t dance,” Rowan said.
Aelin cackled. “Not yet anyway.”
She knocked back the rest of her drink and grabbed Rowan’s arm pulling him to the dancefloor.
Perhaps if they’d been paying closer attention, they would have noticed the high-five Asterin and Elide exchanged.  Or the passing of bills between Vaughan, Connall, and Gavriel.  There was a great deal they didn’t notice.
Not how the rain stopped pouring outside.  Not how the emptiness of the night was overcome by more than music and alcohol.  It was a silent shift.  A careful one.  One that would become more than alright with them.
