After hearing a distress call from Kwannon about the Brood problem, Cyclops declares that the X-Men must eliminate the Brood aliens at all costs. When Broo protests over the idea of killing the Brood; Cyclops snaps at him for his inaction that caused the Brood to run out of control which led to the deaths of the alien civilians, nearly-killing his father (Corsair) and putting more lives in danger out of range. Jean Grey interferes by telling him that Broo did lose control some of his kind but some can be saved as long as they are in his proximity. Cyclops and Jean argue back and forth until the latter (Jean) telekinetically takes off the visor from the former (Cyclops) to prove that some things can be controlled as long as one holds it back in their reach. Cyclops reluctantly allows Jean to take Broo out to different parts of space to save some Brood aliens which can be controlled but he warns Broo that he cannot stop his team from killing some of the Brood which cannot be controlled. Also, Cyclops tells Monet to take Corsair to the Healing Gardens in Krakoa.
Thus Cyclops and the rest of his team went out to find Kwannon's team somewhere in space. After Cyclops and his X-Men left, Broo asks Jean Grey whether Cyclops is right. Jean replies that depending on the situation, Cyclops is both right and wrong. Broo manages to take control of the remaining Brood and takes them to planet Jupiter with Jean's help. Jean Grey tells Broo that even though the Brood can be saved, it does not mean that he cannot pay his kindness forward. Jean adds that although there is redemption, she doesn't know what it means for the Brood and even if Broo tries to find his way to help in controlling them, it won't be easy. Also, Broo must have proper sleep.

AITA for existing (and not being able to stop others of my species from being mean)?
I (?? M? I’m not very sure, my memory is bad, but I think I’ve been alive for a while) was supposed to be a part of a hivemind? I think? But I came out wrong. My creator sent me to this really nice planet because I was deformed. A while after that, one of my species (??? M, I’ll call him B!) was sent here too! B was really mean though, and he kept trying to hide from everyone, even me. I don’t remember what happened, but he got really sad (mad?) and did some bad things, so my friend (??? NB! I’ll call them K!) went to stop him! I don’t remember what happened when K got to him, but he’s gone now. I kinda feel bad about it, maybe all he needed was a friend…
What was I talking about…? Oh! Anyway, my creator (???? NB, I’ll call them Z!) showed up sometime after B disappeared, and started being mean too! So K and I went to stop them. Z ended up disappearing for a while too, but they were mean so I didn’t mind. I don’t really remember how long it’s been since then, but Z came back and they looked different (at least, that’s what K told me, I think) and they were being mean again, not just on this nice planet but some other planets too! K took care of it with some of his other friends.
Anyway, when B and Z showed up, the king (?? M, I’ll call him D) was really affected by them. K said he was… possessed? I think? By both of them (and another one of my species, K told me it happened when Z showed up again). Anyway, for a while D was really scared of me because of them. It made me feel really guilty because I’m a part of the species that hurt him, and I couldn’t do anything to stop them.
AITA?
Edit: I forgot to mention something! It’s been a few years since B and Z showed up (K told me it’s been a few years, so I’ll believe him!), and K talked to D a year after everything happened. K said D isn’t scared of me anymore because I’m nice and I haven’t been mean to him! I still feel really guilty though…
Edit 2: I got a friend to fix the typos! Sorry that this was really hard to read for a while, typing with a tongue is hard :(
Edit 3: I just remembered!! K says hi!

Yes! There's a rift between Scott & Jean, thanks to the Brood, but neither Jean & Scott are not assholes for not seeing eye-to-eye.
Tumblr media
Scott is a man who has seen the devastation the Brood cause thanks to their parasitic reproductive process. He has rescued friends/fellow X-Men from being used as incubators. Now he rescued his father Corsair from being used as a Brood incubator.
A man can take only so much before he cracks. Scott reached his limit during the previous Brood encounter, but the Corsair rescue mission cracked him. He's over the Brood, their reproductive cycle, and their existence.
Jean is a woman who was impersonated by a cosmic entity and retains all the memories of what was done. Jean REMEMBERS the planetary genocide that was committed by the Phoenix. The price of that moment was the Shi’ar coming to Earth and annihilating anyone genetically related to Jean.
Jean cannot live with the weight of eradicating a whole race of sentient life because their evolution turned them into parasites. She strives to be better than that because she has no choice thanks to the legacy the Phoenix left her.
Each viewpoint is clear because their respective histories shape how Scott & Jean want to deal with the Brood.
Now can their relationship survive their difference of opinion?

REVISED & NEW WISHLIST ICON: BROOD
This listing was previously “No-Name (Brood)” the character from Planet Hulk
We think some people were just seeing “Brood” and upvoting. It makes more sense anyway, to have a single listing to let Summoners ask for Brood in @MarvelChampions.

Join us on our next journey...to space!?
X-Men #8-9 gives us space terror w/ The Brood + quite a lengthy discussion on how many spinning plates Hickman can introduce into one story
While X-Force #9 has family fun, horrifying allusions, & questionable state ethics

As much as I'm glad Hank back to being a good guy, personally I'm still not thrilled with the decision. For one it just reads as damage control over Hank's characterization over the years, two it comes at the cost of a decent chunk of his history, and three ig feels to little too late. And it probably wouldn't have come to this if they had an actually good writer on x-force.
"I'm - not quite certain I am a good guy, now. I had always thought that a certainty, that no matter where I was, no matter what I was asked to do, that I would eventually make the right decision. But now? Now I'm, not so sure."
Tumblr media
I mean, I've not been thrilled with almost any choice wrt Hank's characterisation and story for the past 10-11 years, so when this possibility popped up, I was like, yeah, that's about the worst way to damage control it. In the end, I'm going to accept it because at least this way I don't have to go into the X-Men Reddit and see people screaming about how Beast is the worst anymore, or panels posted of the latest X-Force travesty, but it's not how I would have done it.
I especially sympathise with the loss of so much history. He loses X-Factor, he loses 90s X-Men, he loses X-Treme X-Men, he loses New X-Men, he loses Astonishing X-Men, he loses S.W.O.R.D, he loses Uncanny Avengers, etc, etc. Yeah, we cut loose all the necrotic garbage that is All-New, X-Force, etc, but . . .
Feline Hank is the Hank I fell in love with, and this Hank is fundamentally not that man. He doesn't know what that Hank went through. He doesn't remember a word of it. If he sees Abigail Brand, he won't blink twice. If he sees Emma Frost, he just thinks, Hellfire Club. If he sees Broo, he'll just think, aaah, Brood! And that just.
Sucks.
I hope, even now, that there's a chance for him to get old Beast's memories. It would hurt him, deeply, to know what he's done, but it would make him whole again, and give him new perspective that would make his journey going forward self-motivated, rather than just at the end of a sharp stick wielded by other people.
But.
Even if that doesn't happen under Percy, there's always a chance it can happen under another writer. There can always be an arc of Beast trying to get his old memories back, dealing with X-Men trying to stop him (either out of fear of him or for him), there can always be a The Crossing style fix like there was for Tony Stark.
All it takes is one good writer, honestly. All it takes is for someone to pick him up, shake off the dust, and put some shine on him. Because do you know how good it felt to open up that comic book, and see him say 'oh my stars and garters' again? To see him chatty, and hanging off ceilings, and being just fucking cute? The idea of getting that, for multiple issues going forward, is just - it's goddamn catnip, man.
Yeah, it's too little too late. Yeah, this is the worst way it could have been done. Yeah, this could have been avoided, were it not for Ben Percy sucking eggs. Yeah, it reads as damage control.
But at the end of the day, Hank is in a better place today than he was yesterday. And so long as he's going up, then I'll take it.
In fact, let me talk to you about something.
Are you familiar with the Japanese practice of kintsugi? From Wikipedia:
"Kintsugi, also known as kintsukuroi, is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with urushi lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum.
As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise."
Comic book characters do not belong to us. That is, unfortunately, the truth of them. They belong to massive media corporations who treat them not as valued parts of a story, but a licence to print money. They belong, momentarily, to writers, who treat them not as beloved icons, but as tools within a story. They belong to the fandom, but only in a fleeting, ephemeral, transformative state.
Comic book characters get broken all the time. But by the same token, all it takes is for the right writer to come along and fix them. You can allow yourself to get bogged down in the history, in the injustice, in the poor writing decisions, or you can allow yourself to see a beautiful pot inlaid with gold, with silver, with platinum.
Beast is on the road to recovery. It's in the shittiest way possible, the pot is broken and we're missing a few pieces, but we can always find them again and add them back in.
And who knows? Someone amazing might come along and use this to tell the single best Beast story ever told.
X-Force could have been that story - I've talked at length about how this could have been a Greek tragedy, a reflection on a life ruined by throwing one's self at the world's problems and being struck down for caring too much, but it isn't. It's a spy thriller with a Bond villain. But it could have been. There's almost no such thing as a bad story (unless you're Chuck Austen), just bad execution. X-Force was bad for Beast. Okay.
But what if the next story is the best one he's ever had?
And I'm gonna leave you with this. You know how you should never read the comments? Well.
"I do admit i missed him, tho."
"Oh shit! I was JOKING that they'd bring back Stars-And-Garters Beast to beat modern beast! HELL YEAH"
"I'm honestly happy they are. I'm so tired of the "Beast is a bad guy" storyline."
"I'm so glad Happy-Go-Lucky, child-like wonder Hank is back! It's why he's one of my top 5 X-Men."
"This is the Beast we kmew. It's nice to have him back for now. As expected. Him crying at the end over all the files present Beast has written, shows that this is the old beast, from way back then."
"Yaaay non-genocidal maniac Beast is back."
"Welcome back, real Beast."
When was the last time you saw so many random strangers on the internet be happy about Beast, man? Celebrate this. The 5 years are almost over.
Well. Unless things go horribly wrong in the next two issues.
Knock on wood.

Another thing I’d like to mention is the fact that Nightmare is really committed to going after the X-Men lately. Ever since DODS, when he attacked Jean Grey and got his ass beaten, Nightmare also tried to torment Xavier (as if he’d win but okay). And now, he’s after the Brood, using them to foment chaos and fear in the universe (Broo is not really a mutant but he’s an old friend and ally of the X-Men).
The interesting part is that Nightmare mentioned something about Illyana’s fear, something she hasn’t given voice to yet.
You know me, I see an enemy of Stephen fighting my faves, I talk about them. It also happened with Dormammu in the past, the very reason Illyana sought Stephen’s mentorship.
I don’t expect that she goes to him this time around because she’s really strong and independent as a fighter/magic user. But who knows? Stephen is back in town. There’s always a chance.

Jean Grey is such a bully.
Honestly I just think this plot point is dumb.
The X-Men have pretty REGULARLY killed the Brood and the Shi’ar have more or less talked about eradicating them in the past… this is outright IGNORING canon to create some BS Schism type story!
Broo TRIED to control the Brood…and failed miserably (Sure part of it was ON Nightmare…but it just kind of shows Broo ISN’T a reliable CHOICE)… ON TOP of Broo basically HAVING to have them kill hosts that Broo deemed “bad” (already kind of morally icky!)
The Brood already attacked Krakoa pretty recently in Hickman’s X-Men…where the X-Men NEARLY lost…
In CM- they tortured and experimented on Binary AND Rogue with the main goal being to evolve…
In the main title, Cyclops NEARLY watched his dad die…
I get Jean probably feels SOME residual guilt over the d’bari Phoenix situation…and the death of her family…and I get that Jean is super empathic…but COME ON!
It’s the equivalent of letting Sinister have access to all of their DNA- anyone with a BRAIN knew it was going to end HORRIBLY WRONG. 😳
Honestly I am SURPRISED Hellion took so much HEAT for not trusting Broo back in WatXM, when it seems kind of reasonable considering… (we’ve ALREADY seen Julian was 100% right about Karima during the Krakoa era!)
Much like the Cyclops vs. Wolverine drama/ AvX/IvX…this is just f****** dumb and terrible writing that COMPLETELY ignores prior canon 😡
What makes me ESPECIALLY ANGRY is Duggan making an allegory to Claremont’s really loving moment in “Dark Phoenix”…to basically create this pointless DUMB drama!😡
So no- I am NOT a fan of this and I know it’s going to lead to some MORE infighting events because that is apparently ALL Marvel can write ANYMORE 😒

Captain Marvel and The X-Men Team Up to Fight The Brood Once Again
Tumblr media
Marvel Comics has announced the return of the Brood, parasitic predators that once fought Captain Marvel and The X-Men. Now, Broo has seemingly lost control of the Brood and they are running wild in the “Revenge of the Brood” and “Lord of the Brood” arcs that will take place in Captain Marvel and X-Men.
The Brood threat is currently unfolding in Kelly Thompson’s Captain Marvel run. Various X-Men like Rogue, Gambit, and Wolverine will guest star in the series. Gerry Duggan and Stefano Caselli’s X-Men comics will connect to the Captain Marvel series starting on Issue #19. The epic will then conclude in Captain Marvel #49.
Tumblr media
To mark the event, Juan Frigeri is creating giant connecting cover art for Captain Marvel #46-48 and X-Men #19-21, on sale in 2023.

Any other X-Men couples you think should break up for good or potential ones that could be a good match for each other? Personally, I'm always happy when Lorna is away from Alex and Jean is dating someone that isn't Scott or Logan.
SO LATE TO REPLY TO THIS i wanted to just take a moment to Brood on it and then it was 80s years later but that's the adhds for ya B)
okay SO
I love scott/jean-- do not like they are back together again. stop that.
i agree that logan/jean is a No and lorna/alex has just run it's natural course. honestly i can't think of too many ships off the top of my head that i'm just like "please let this die" about atm. like the only other ones i can think of are like, kurt/amanda and kitty/piotr but those are both currently dead anyway.also i don't like any betsy ships but also i don't like betsy. or hank. so like idk actually the time they dated is perfect. handcuff them together so they can't ruin anyone else. oh ALSO -- kurt/megan i don't like it stop flirting with this idea stop doing it in aus stop.
as for ships with potential:
namor/jean -- if you've read x-men red you'll get it. quentin/evan (gensis) -- nothing about either of them is straight and their cringe balances well remy/joanna (frenzy) -- it's just hot. that's science remy/bishop -- it's practically canon honestly quentin/hope -- i said what i said. i like the feral edgelord vs homeschooler energy. they'd both think someone falling down the stairs is funny. iara (sharkgirl)/evan (gensis) -- it's just good. namorita/jono (chamber) -- i will not elaborate. amara/alani -- good vibes tho i haven't read a lot for either of them lol idie/broo -- I SAID WHAT I SAID. jean/ororo -- it's practically canon. jean/wanda -- someone i know in the namor server is into this and it's like seeing the face of god it's Very Good. alison/kurt -- they both teach preforming arts at the school and it's upsettingly horny which is objectively hilarious. rogue/pietro -- if i cannot have rogneto i'll take this bc they actually have some really nice vibes and get along well. namora/scott -- i will not elaborate. ororo/callisto -- IT'S BASICALLY CANON rogue/sam -- hillbilly4hillbilly romance iara (sharkgirl)/julian -- julian gives off "i like monster girls with strong personalities" energy and i'm a diehard iara stan so i think she deserves like 80 boyfriends. namorita/victor von doom -- I WILL NOT ELABORATE.
that's what i can think off of the top of my head + a lil scanning of some character lists to remind myself of who's even a Thing. i personally wish i had like, a strong fanon ship for kurt but i just don't. i know there are some out there like kurt/logan and kurt/piotr which have been big for decades but i just -- like there's no potential logan or piotr ships on my "could be good list" here bc i just don't wanna see them with anyone sdgsdfgfd. i also wish i had more options for rogue and namor but kldjfshgfkljsdghsdkjl marvel fucking hates them and so much writing around them and their relationships is Cursed as is so there's not really a lot of material to work with sdfgsdgds.

Captain Marvel #47
I really loved the heart to heart between Hazmat and Rogue. It was so cute. It filled my heart with joy! But yeah, this was a great issue! It’s revealed that the brood want Carol’s help to make a super brood army to then defeated Broo and their army. That makes a lot of sense! I can dig that! This is feeling like this might be the end of this run. Which would be sad. But it was good run! So if it’s ending, I’ll be sad but understand!
