I wanted to get really cute with Raum. Initially I sketched a more realistic pig, but opted to go for a more stylized look to emphasize his cuteness.
Raum is also somewhat based on a Hereford pig, thought much more broken up coloration.

I mean... heck I did my best back then to draw a pig without just doing the stereotypical pink pig.

Cards I made as fanart for a space-themed mobile game
Tumblr media
The game, Seedship, doesn't have any cards or visuals (aside from the loading screen). I just made cards for fun based on what I think they'd look like. If you want to see the full cards and some of my thoughts about them, I have them attached below.
Tumblr media
Since the point of the game is to find a new planet to settle on, I wanted the animal card to show a creature that looked like an animal but also alien. My main photo resources for this render were cows (for their face shape and fur texture) and geckos (for their pupils). Then I doubled the eyes and pupils to make it look even more alien. This was one of my fave cards to make.
Tumblr media
If memory serves me this was the first card I made. I wanted these circular shapes to give the card an airy feel. I would continue to use the half circles to visually tie the cards together.
Tumblr media
I am not used to doing landscapes much less ones done in a birds eye view. Tackling the concept of "Resources" felt a bit nebulous. The main resource images used were photos of abandoned quarries. I don't know if I could do this any better now or if I'd struggle even more lol. But hey! Semi-circle clouds!
Tumblr media
In Seedship, planets can be goldilocks, super cold, or super hot. I decided that focusing on the extremes would make for the best visual. I think my main inspiration for the sand visual was actually the new(ish) Dune cover illustrated by Jim Tierney. In this illustration you can also see the diamond shape I'd use in other cards to visually tie them together.
Tumblr media
Similar to the Animals Card, I wanted to portray alien plant life. I wanted to do a close up similar like the Animals card. Surprisingly choosing to do a close up of an alien plant made it difficult to read as a plant. I didn't want to do green on the plant originally, but it just didn't look very plant like to me otherwise.
Tumblr media
I am 99% sure if you look up "watercolor ocean tutorial" on youtube the tutorial I followed to make this will pop up lol. Solid tutorial
Tumblr media
Believe it or not but this was a LOT harder to get right than you'd think. Blur is both my enemy and my friend. I had a LOT of fun painting the planet and its clouds
I consider this to be the sort of visual linchpin for the series. It has both the diamonds and semi-cirle clouds in one image. By far one of my faves for the series.
Tumblr media
Probably one of the prettiest cards of the series (though I am proud that there are so many pretty cards to choose from). The illustration is based on recent(ish) portrayals of black holes.
Its funny to look at this with eyes open to one of my childhood Artist inspirations, David Christiana. He has this beautiful motif of swirls in his work. I didn't make the connection back then, but having recently painted my Siren painting and looking at his art for reference, that I have been strongly influenced by his work for a long long time.
