just got emotionally fucking annihilated by wakanda forever
Tumblr media
but i also wanna talk about it! warning for spoilers and general rambling below 👇
ok, let’s start with parallels CAUSE THERE WERE SO MANY
first off, the comparison of shuri and killmonger 👀
it really does make sense, especially when you think ab how they both “go against” tradition, rejecting the standards. t’challa (rip ilysm) still wanted to please the elders, even if he had more progressive ideas (ie: sandals for his first day
also i’m so fucking glad they didn’t try to cgi chadwick in. it would’ve felt disrespectful and i think it was handled beautifully
Tumblr media
her sparing namor the same way t’challa spared those he fought (saving zemo, helping bucky, trying to help killmonger)
the dialogue callbacks bro. fuckin “show him who you are,” had me sobbing. “vengeance is consuming us” babes, shuri, i’m crying.
her being angered by loss and snapping at nakia like t’challa snapped at zuri when he realized killmonger’s identity
also i absolutely love riri. i was a bit apprehensive going in, but i think they executed her well without just making her a replacement for tony. that being said, he would absolutely adore her
Tumblr media
the parallel of her going too high and running out of oxygen and later turning it on namor in the same way mirrors tony’s suit frosting over and doing the same to stane 😭
the silent flashes of t’challa took my breath away. the silence really compounded just how empty and quiet their grief is.
seeing shuri try so hard in the opening and not even being able to say goodbye was so sad, and you can see her thoughts racing later on when she successfully synthesizes the heart-shaped herb. it’s a sort of “what if i’d thought of this earlier?” “who would still be alive?” “how could i have missed this?” sort of feeing
onto details!
the new black panther suit is stunning 🤩 the gold and silver details along with the dots that almost look like pearls, mirroring the ones she wears at the funerals? it shows that even if she is the leader of wakanda now, she’s still very young, still grieving her many losses
the tech and ai has really been amped up. shuri’s ai and her different interfaces looked amazing. also the ai (who i think is grio but i couldn’t tell) reminds me of jarvis. mainly in the orange blob department
the dora milaje looked stunning as ever, and seeing some new tech for them was exciting
THE VIBRANIUM THAT MELTED INTO THE CARS ALSKDKDKFKLDDK OBSESSED TONY WOULDVE LOVED THAT SHIT
talokan was gorgeous, even if it did violently trigger my thalassophobia
Tumblr media
ummm everett and valentina being married (well, divorced) was a plot point i was not expecting. hope to see him in the thunderbolts tho he’s very slay
fucking 👏 t’challa 👏 junior 👏
i broke down right then and there
took me right out
i won’t lie the people of talokan gave me avatar vibes but i did like the touch of them having siren-like voices.
also namora was pretty so that’s a win
ok i get that it’s a movie. but realistically, i’d they’re fighting this massive underwater force, why not just call any other super powered avenger????
like for movie’s sake yeah it’s all fine but like if i were in the mcu living that shit i’d be like “let’s just call thor. have him like electrocute the water. or doctor strange. he did that cool water thing in endgame that had literally no purpose except to give him screen time. or wanda, we all know she ain’t really dead bffr”
AYO IS GENERAL NOW??? I LOVE OKOYE BUT THATS A SLAY
ALSO SHES GAY??????
I SAW THAT KISS AT THE END 👀👀👀👀
man i love m’baku so much. he’s just. ugh
ok in better terms, i think i like him so much because he is first presented as a chad, almost. he’s strong, a bit dumb, and leads the isolated tribe.
but then you interact w him and find out he’s incredibly emotionally empathetic and kind, and reaches out to shuri as a helping hand, a person to lean on.
Tumblr media
i just really appreciate him okay 🥺😭
overall, stunning. 10/10, fifth time in a row that marvel’s made me cry at one of their movies.
aka black widow (bc yelena and the ending), shang-chi (bc gotdamn let me cry ab the chinese representation), no way home (cause duh), love and thunder (BC HE ADOPTED HER BITCH WHAT) and now this
stunning, showstopping, say what you will about marvel but damn they know how to make me cry

So I just read the snippet you wrote where Jensen and Jake meet for WIO. And all I can say is, “Oh, damn!”
The American in me is like, “Shots fired!”
The nerd in me is just, *gauntlet thrown*!
Jensen has no chill and I am loving it.
But, I agree with the other individual in the other ask. Considering the circumstances on how Jensen and Honey met, the possibility that Jensen loses his battle with cancer before he and Honey could explore anything more between them is just very high and, similarly, very heartbreaking. Because, from my perspective, Jensen started as a complete stranger who saw someone who just had the ground ripped out from under her and extended a helping hand because it’s something Honey needs. Moreover, it’s something he wishes he had when he first went through his battle with cancer. Their relationship evolved into a friendship because they have that camaraderie from going through something that their own loved ones aren’t able to understand. They’re both staring their own mortality in the face and they need someone who understands that.
And because they’re both going through something similar, there’s that underlying hint for more that may cause future heartbreak because of the circumstances of how they met. And I’m crying more so about this than Jake and Honey.
Jake had his time with Honey but he squandered it as time went on. Yes, he’s at the hospital now but that’s only because a beleaguered nurse violated HIPPAA (I forgot the acronym, sorry) laws and told him what’s what. If she hadn’t, would he actually pick up on the fact that Honey is sick and question her about it in depth? I’m not sure if I remembered their last time together when Honey threw up, but I believe he noted she was sick and took her answer at face value and didn’t prove further. In his mind, I guess he wanted to let sleeping dogs lie.
So, the jury’s out on that one. In my opinion, if nurse Lydia hadn’t spilled the beans, Jake would’ve been blissfully unaware of what’s going on with Honey until he hears from Maz about what really happened. (In this thought exercise, I’m thinking about how I heard the news that Chadwick Boseman passed and realized that he had to have been sick when filming CA: Civil War, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: End Game; and no one knew…except *maybe* his family.)
By any chance, can you give us a hint about what happens in WIO? I am on tenterhooks and I definitely want Honey to be healthy and happy (preferably without Jake). You don’t have to give hints if you don’t want to.
Anyway, thank you!
Jensen in the very basic sense is exactly what you’ve described to sick!wifey. For this specific story, his character it for personal development for both Honey and Jake.
And because they’re both going through something similar, there’s that underlying hint for more that may cause future heartbreak because of the circumstances of how they met.
^^^^^ Very telling.
I actually haven’t thought about it a lot (because you guys keep giving more content to think about which I love!) but I’m not even sure if Honey would have ever told Jake…..which is sad when you really do think about it.

SIMS SERIES: MOVIE REVIEWS

BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER (SPOILER FREE REVIEW)
“I am Queen of the most powerful nation in the world, and my entire family is gone! Have I not given everything?”
— Queen Ramonda of Wakanda
Yesterday, I had the opportunity to watch Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in an Early Access! When I say the film is gonna give you an ultimatum of heartaches and pain, it's legit! The film starts with a heartbreaking scene, prepare some tissues with you cause it's gonna be the bawl film of the year! What I liked about this film is that it's not a direct sequel to Wakanda Forever, it's a whole new story about the Wakandans, not just about the Black Panther but the whole country. Expect Rihanna humming around the film. MCU really raised the bar high with this film.
Now, in terms of the CGI, they did awesome and perfect transitions from scene to scenes. There's a particular scene that I liked that I won't tell (guess the budget went all to this film siguro? chz). Plotwise, this film is equipped with the right characters and right motivations. The film also tells us that there's always three sides of the story, your side, my side, and the fucking truth. All the characters and cast carried this film to success.
The film paid homage to the late Chadwick Boseman, acknowledging his legacy as the Black Panther in the most emotional and heart wrenching scene. Ryan Coogler did a great job on making the impossible a possible one, the good and flawless passing of the mantle without discrediting the previous mantle holder.
As an overall review for the film, i give it an astounding 10/10. They came, they conquered and delivered a good MCU Film. I wonder how are they going to top this one.
“Shuri, show him who we are..”

2022 MOVIE OF THE WEEK #34
Tumblr media
black panther: wakanda forever. after i saw this one, i noted that reviews for it seemed pretty mixed--but i loved it. not because i felt like it was a perfect follow-up to the first one, but because it didn’t try to be that. it couldn’t, so it went in a different direction. and as messy and excessive as i did think it was in parts, pretty much all of those problems to me seemed caused by the curse of the mcu, which i certainly wouldn’t expect any filmmakers inside the system to be able to escape.
what i mean is, this movie had to accomplish three major things all at the same time: honor chadwick boseman’s memory and say goodbye to the beginnings of this series that he established; introduce a new black panther and situate that character in his place, with all the complications that entails; and introduce a new antagonist AND a whole new world that he originates from, that will be incorporated into the mcu going forward. that’s too much for one movie to do well! it just is.
so they do all the things, but it feels obvious the whole time that we are witnessing a new antagonist who isn’t going to be conclusively beaten like  killmonger was, and that he isn’t stronger and smarter and more unusual because it actually makes sense for the movie...at least to me, it just felt really forced, them cramming this new marvel world and character into this sequel, to drive their phases of the mcu forward whether it would be what was best for the black panther series or not.
but again, i don’t blame the movie for that--i think it’s well-established by now that any movie that does well enough in the mcu to gain a sequel will be expected to then stretch those sequels to fit whatever unrelated marvel nonsense the corporation has decided needs an introduction. the best they can hope for is to accommodate what’s required of them (to get to make the sequels at all) without completely ruining what made people love the originals enough to wish for sequels in the first place. and given the givens of this movie, which was also going on without its originally intended star, i thought they did okay.
so, a major part of why i loved this movie is that i knew they would have to address the absence of t’challa, but i didn’t know what to expect from them in doing so. i’m especially fond of media that allows characters to die when their actors do, because there’s something really moving and painful and cathartic and honest, when actors are channeling their own grief that way. but in a superhero movie, i could see that being too heavy, so i wouldn’t have been surprised if they did something different.
instead, i basically started crying when the opening title rolled--i was NOT prepared for the marvel logo to be comprised of slices of chadwick-as-t’challa--and then i didn’t really stop, so much as pause for long stretches in between many other moments scenes that had me crying right up through an end credits scene.
this movie is about superheroes, sure, but even less than the first one was--and that one was about politics and family and responsibility and power, not just a guy in a suit who could fight. the biggest reason why i loved this movie is because more than anything, it felt to me like a meditation on grief. and that is probably not what most people wanted from this movie, or what they want from superhero movies in general (i wouldn’t really know), but i was not expecting that at all and i didn’t realize how much i needed it until i was in it.
if you set aside the Big Conflict in this movie between the new antagonist and Wakanda broadly (and the royal family more narrowly, then down to Shuri specifically), it’s just a story about loss and how it impacts all the characters we know and love from the first film--how it changes them, what they do with it, what they learn and how they reach out toward each other in attempts to heal. i found it honestly incredibly heartbreaking when even MORE loss was piled onto shuri during the events of the film, but all the parts of that narrative made sense to me.
it was like, if you sliced out most of the excessive time spent establishing the underwater world and any other villain had achieved the same results in destabilizing wakanda and the family, you’d have a tighter story that stuck to its core point: the black panther was never meant to be just one man. t’challa couldn’t live forever. but t’challa was the center of his world not because he was the black panther anyway; he was beloved for the kind of person he was, and that was a lesson his successor would have to learn in the face of losing him.
so, yeah. i loved everything they did with characters grieving and comforting each other and trying to face a new future after a terrible loss. i was still in the middle of my own grief-induced depression when i saw this, and it meant a lot to me that they did not hold back about any of it...like the movie was a farewell to t’challa and also chadwick but it also kind of felt like an invitation to collectively mourn whatever we all lost during the pandemic, somehow. together.
and beyond that, tbh, i don’t remember much else. i know they also introduced a young female character, but much like the waterworld people, she felt shoehorned in, somebody it was hard to care about when important stuff was happening to the characters i actually came to see. re: the waterworld people, i should say that i didn’t dislike them or this movie’s antagonist--his motivations made sense and and the actor seems cool. he brought depth to his portrayal. marvel is the real villain here! (lol.)
i firmly believe they did both waterworld (i know, i know, it has a real name, but i don’t remember the details a year later and refuse to google them because then it would seem like i did remember) and the black panther world a disservice by introducing it this way. i think if marvel wants to keep their ‘universe’ going until the literal universe dies someday, which seems to be the plan so far, they should be required to introduce the different worlds and major characters in standalone movies, like they started out doing.
if they had done that with this new waterworld, and let black panther 2 be about everyone figuring out how to move forward after t’challa’s death, this movie could have still focused on shuri’s journey and everyone’s grief and wakanda’s ability to stand strong against america and the rest of the world--and it could’ve done so without also needing to adding so many other layers of battles and introductions. that was the only part that really felt messy to me, when the first film was so well-crafted.
other things i can add that i do remember: the fact that waterworld’s initial introduction in this movie feels like a scene from some other genre, and was absolutely terrifying for me (i hate underwater scenes in everything, i have drowning fear); the music was of course great but i expected nothing else; and the performances were (again expectedly) fantastic. this franchise is the kind where basically every character is my fave, so i loved seeing them all in top form again, fighting or offering wisdom or standing strong.
so this is a movie i can only recommend if you’re in the mood to face your feelings about death, and with the awareness that you’re kind of going to be watching two movies in one...which funnily enough the poster hints at, i guess. when i remember watching it, i remember it fondly, which is why i would still recommend it--but i think i remember it that way because in my head it is so sharply separated into ‘black panther things’ and ‘everything else that could’ve been in another movie’ and i really did enjoy it on those separate levels.

There's a very specific negative I'm seeing in the reviews for Black Panther Wakanda Forever that is interesting to me. Most of the negatives are the typical stuff I see in MCU movie "CGI fuck fest" "Terrible script" "Bad plot" blah blah blah
The one that's sticking out for me is that the absence of Chadwick's T'Challa is felt and not in a good way. Without him as the emotional/dramatic center some ppl aren't liking the movie as a whole. It's interesting to me cause I remember when the first Black Panther came out and saw a bunch of ppl complaining that T'Challa was a "supporting character in his own movie" which was never true he just had a great stacked cast around him, but ppl felt like T'Challa wasn't the core of the movie. And now people see a movie without him and realize that he actually was.
Gonna be very interesting to see if this movie resonates with the casual audience or if this falls flat. Hasn't been a good year for the MCU. Bound to happen eventually though and unfortunately if they keep up this quantity over quality direction they're moving towards it'll be the end of the MCU before we know it. Not like anyone cares though.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022, dir. Ryan Coogler) - review by Rookie-Critic
Tumblr media
Okay. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. As with all MCU reviews, this will be vague because I know at least some of y'all have not gotten a chance to see it yet. Does it live up to the near-insurmountable legacy the first one left behind? I think not. However, as mentioned, that was going to be almost impossible, and it shouldn't take away from how great Wakanda Forever really is. Firstly, and unsurprisingly, Wakanda Forever serves as a way to mourn the loss of Chadwick Boseman and King T'Challa, and it is in these moments that the film works best. It is unfortunate that this is mainly felt in the opening and closing scenes of the film. That's not to say it is only in those moments, because it's not, Boseman's presence is felt throughout the entire film, and I think that works both for and against it (even though the latter is not in any way the fault of the filmmakers).
Boseman is missed. Letitia Wright, great actor that she is, has the slightest amount of trouble carrying the film on her shoulders. Thankfully, she doesn't have to entirely. Angela Bassett, an absolute legend, gets to own her fair share of screen time reprising her role as Queen Ramonda, and, in a lot of ways, is just as important as Shuri is to the overall story of the film. Also really bringing it is newcomer Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor, the Sub-Mariner, who is a character that has been hotly anticipated for quite awhile by comic book fans. Mejía was, without a doubt, my favorite part of the film. Following up a villain like Erik Killmonger/Prince N'Jadaka is no easy feat, and they pulled it off without even breaking a sweat. Mejía commands your attention, and his cause and reasoning for wanting to do what he wants to do is every bit as empathetic as Killmonger's was the first time around. Dominique Thorne is also incredible as Riri Williams (who comic book readers probably know better as the new-age hero Ironheart). Where Multiverse of Madness failed in their portrayal of America Chavez, Wakanda Forever absolutely succeeds in their portrayal of Riri, and I can't wait to see more of her in her upcoming solo series on Disney+.
It isn't without its problems: a lot of the late stage decisions/revelations feel a little unearned, a big bulk of the middle of the film feels unneeded (and at a whopping 2 hours and 41 minutes, there definitely could have been some fat trimmed), and I could have used about a million more percent M'Baku. Winston Duke is an absolute scene-stealer and deserves so much more screen time than he is given. Not only as a comedic character, but surprisingly as a dramatic one as well. In a way, I'm glad the movie did not try to beholden itself too much to the original, it helps it stand a little better on its own two feet. In another way, though, it loses a little of that magic that made the original one such a triumph of modern film making, even if it was only a little. Regardless, Wakanda Forever shines very bright, and I like to think that part of that is Chadwick beaming at how well his MCU family is doing in his absence.
Score: 9/10
Currently still playing in some theaters, but is probably on it's way out. Look for it soon on Disney+.
I'd also like to point out that this film is led almost entirely by women of color. Letitia Wright, Angela Bassett, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, and Dominique Thorne could all be considered main characters in their own right here, and that is something worth majorly celebrating.

So...that Wakanda Forever teaser...
Look,  I'm not gonna lie, I was NOT happy when Marvel announced they weren't re-casting T'challa, as I felt they should've kept his character seperate from Chadwick's passing. This teaser, though?...This teaser gave me hope.
At least from the outside looking in, it really feels like Ryan Coogler took the "make lemonade out of lemons" response with this sequel.
Our star died very tragically and suddenly? Let's make that a part of the movie and have the characters deal with it in story. Wakanda is under threat for hiding their technological existence from the world? Let's make that a strength rather than a weakness; that Wakanda needs to learn how to survive without the guidance of their late Patriarch while their Matriarch is doing her best not to cave under pressure.
Mind you, I feel like Wakanda being under threat from other nations similar to it was always intended as part of the sequel, as the mid-credit scene from the first Black Panther implies, but still.
Also, curious to see how they handle Namor. Especially cause I really like the ancient, Aztec warrior sea nation vibe the Atlanteans got going on in the teaser.

#3 – BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER | Disney/Marvel | Writer/Director Ryan Coogler |Co-writer Joe Robert Cole - This definitely is the most thoughtful and intentionally aware film of the MCU. Its writer/director Ryan Coogler had his hands full – first he had to allow for audiences as well as cast /crew and Marvel family, proper time to mourn the passing of Chadwick Boseman and his portrayal of Black Panther, both in life and within the film – centering grief, without letting it take over.
He also had to take a vintage comicbook character, Namour (Sub-Mariner) (Tenoch Huerta) and his underworld domain, a form of Atlantis, and make it his own, give it cultural depth. In fact, the film is rich with a mix of cultures as there are 7 Languages spoken throughout the movie.  Then everyone said the women of “Black Panther” ruled the original movie; we were all so impressed with Shuri, (Letitia Wright) the Queen Mother Ramanda (Angela Bassett) Nakia, the spy (Lupita Nyong’o) The Dora Milaje, particularly General Okoye (Danai Gurira) but what happens when you actually have to base a movie around the female characters, does it hold up?
On top of all this, by naming the film Wakanda Forever, he had to make us remember how much we all were transported and transfixed with this amazing, self-sufficient, technologically advanced land, and bring back that sense of pride.   Of course these concerns are in addition to the regular stuff – CGI, fight sequences, MCU cannon etc.. etc.. etc..  All I can say is Kudos to Coogler and his entire team. The looks, new character introductions, character motivations and trajectories, it’s all just damned impressive!  There’s a slight lull as we head into the 3rd act, but that’s so minor considering everything we get!
The overall premise goes back to the importance of vibranium as a perfect power source. Every country on earth wants to get their hands on it, but Wakanda takes their protection of vibranium seriously and does not negotiate.  You can see it especially galls the other leaders that a country of black people would be the ones to control this rich resource.  They try to take it by force, but when this fails they find a scientist (Riri Williams/Ironheart Dominique Thorne) who’s created a machine that can detect vibranium elsewhere, that elsewhere turns out to be deep in the ocean. This gets the attention of Namor who presents Queen Ramanda and Shuri with a proposition. What I love is when I’m sent the Production Notes for a movie.  Cause it’s always full of stuff I like to research anyway.  Here’s some quick tidbits:Namor is among Marvel’s oldest characters, (Marvel Comics #1 in 1939) acting both as hero and villain in the years to follow. In this story, he represents Talokan, a hidden underwater civilization (based on Aztec traditions) The fictional world reflects how a real community might have changed and evolved over time, forced underwater and separated from the rest of their people and culture.
The world of Talokan took nearly two years to develop. “We started at the very beginning,” says the production designer. “‘Where are they located? How did they get there? How did they survive?’“Namor’s costumes reflect the tradition that he honors and the position he holds as king. We used a lot of kelp to make his headdress and his hand-woven cape. We added shells and beads—his look gives you a sense that he has traveled through time – Ruth Carter, Oscar Winning Costume Designer.

What I Thought About "What If...T'Challa Became a Star-Lord?" from Marvel Studios' What If...
Salutations, random people on the internet who already scrolled past this! I am an Ordinary Schmuck. I write stories and reviews and draw comics and cartoons!
You know, a lot of people lost so much when Chadwick Boseman died. His family has lost a husband and a father, his fans lost an inspiration, and to fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we lost both a hero and a king. His performance as T'Challa/Black Panther is by far the best the character has ever had, nailing the essence of the character while delivering so much more. So with the second episode of Marvel Studios' What If... one has to ask: Was Chadwick Boseman's final performance his best, or did the series failed to honor his legacy? Only spoilers can answer that question, so be wary as we analyze the second entry into Marvel's most ambitious series.
Now, let's review, shall we?
WHAT I LIKED
T’Challa himself: I enjoy that because his story has changed, so did T'Challa's personality. There's this sly cockiness that we've never seen from the character before, showing how much influence Yondu and his Ravagers had on him. And it's actually pretty fun seeing a character who was so calm and collected now act so...not that. With that said, just T'Challa is now Star-Lord, that doesn't mean he's a copy of Peter Quill.
The major differences lie in the impact that T'Challa left on the galaxy. Instead of stealing for himself, he chose to steal for planets in need as his own version of Robin Hood. And that, in turn, is a way more intriguing and compelling character to me than Peter Quill ever could be. There's just something about the nobleness of choosing to be a heroic outlaw instead of being strictly an outlaw. It proves that despite having his history altered drastically, there is no erasing that perfect and intelligent King that we all know and dearly miss. It sucks that we'll probably never see him again, but at least the last time we did it was to leave one epic impression for the fans.
Korath is T’Challa’s #1 Fan: Not what I would have expected, primarily since the character never acted so goofy, but I appreciate this change nonetheless. Because it's oddly wholesome seeing how much Korath admires T'Challa, to the point where he honestly believes that they're best friends. Also, it's funny. Like, really funny. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that this version of Korath is the funniest character in this episode. He's just too good.
It’s All Funny: Hey, we're on the Guardians of the Galaxy side of the universe. I'd personally be offended if it didn't have a sense of humor.
Yondu: Yondu seems to be the only one who hasn't changed that much through T'Challa's presence. Sure, he went straight because of it, but personality-wise, he's still the same. He still gives off the energy as this king of the idiots when dealing with his Ravagers, and you how he's this thief with a heart of gold. It's just that only T'Challa brought it out more than Peter did. Other than that, I personally don't mind that not much has changed. Yondu was already a fun character, to begin with, so I'm more than alright seeing him unaltered if it means we get to witness more of him.
The Galaxy is Better Because of T’Challa’s Influence: No, really, it is. Drax still has his family, Thanos renounced his genocidal ways, and Nebula not only remained in one piece but even has hair...somehow. It's impressive to see just how better everything turned out, and, in a way, it's also kind of funny when you think about it. Like, I wouldn't go so far as to say that the universe was in shambles because of Peter's existence...but it wasn't really better either, and I can't help my chuckles when witnessing how better off things were because he stayed on Earth.
Thanos: Not much to say here. It's fun seeing how chilled out Thanos is when he's not hellbent on wiping out half the universe. And I definitely chuckled a couple times when people called him out on his genocidal bulls**t. It's pretty enjoyable and made me glad we got to see his very surprising return.
Nebula: But this shocked me more. Korath becoming a T'Challa stan? Sure. Thanos acting as a respectful ally? Whatever. But Nebula becoming T'Challa's sexy thieve-in-arms girlfriend?! I don't think anybody in their right mind would have predicted that!
But putting aside the shock, this version of Nebula was surprisingly entertaining. It's nice seeing what she would've acted like without the tragedy as she acts like she's free as a bird but still a little devious. Although, despite having a much better life, that doesn't mean there isn't animosity between her and Thanos. He may not have torn Nebula apart as much as he did in the universe we know, but take notice of how she still has cybernetics in her left eye. That shows that T'Challa didn't get to fix everything, and I appreciate that the writers hadn't glossed over how much of a bad father the Mad Titan is, just because he's all sunshine and rainbows now. It allows a chance for Thanos to prove he really did change and gives Nebula an arc to forgive him. And while the pacing for that could have been better, it's still somewhat believable for me to get behind it. Thus surprising me even more with how not only did Nebula make a phenomenal appearance, but one that left quite the impact on the story.
The Collector: It's not just better heroes that T'Challa created. The Collector, for example, somehow became a genuine threat in this timeline instead of that pathetic dweeb in Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers: Infinity War. This again amazes me with how T'Challa miraculously created a buff-supervillain in his universe, where Peter did jack all. Maybe the galaxy really would have been better off without him...
Howard the Duck: This is the best way to utilize Howard the Duck if you ask me. He's a character that doesn't really scream "leading character" to me (unless given the correct type of writers), so it's better to let him stick to brief cameos and occasional supporting roles. It allows a goofy type of character to shine without causing audiences to roll their eyes over the idea of a talking duck saving the day.
Wakanda Theme Playing when T’Challa Found the Ship: It's just a cool callback. That's all.
Yondu Lying About Wakanda’s Destruction: A pretty solid reveal that shows how even though Yondu loves the kids he steals, he doesn't have the best intentions. What more can I add?
The Collector’s Wall of Weapons: The callbacks are nice, but I like implications from seeing Captain America's shield and Thor's hammer on that wall. It could mean that while the universe is a better place from T'Challa's influence, not everybody made it out alright.
Yondu’s Speech to T’Challa: I'm sure these beautiful and sentimental words have some implications toward Chadwick Boseman as an actor, but I was too busy being emotional to notice them. Well done.
What Happened to Peter Quill: Ok...I think we can just stop beating Peter down for dooming half the universe. Because how much lower can you get when finding out that this other guy practically saved everything with very little effort, only for you to end up as a worker at Dairy Queen? I'd honestly feel bad if I kept doing it at this point. The poor bastard…
(Sidenote: Love the implications that the world is still in danger because Ego still gets to Peter. It shows that despite the more interesting changes, not everything turns out all hunky-dory.)
The Tribute to Chadwick Boseman: A well-appreciated sentiment to cap off a perfect episode...or what would've been a perfect episode. 'Cause ya boy's got some nitpicks!
WHAT I DISLIKED
T’Challa Being Called Star-Lord: A small thing, but the reason why Peter called himself Star-Lord was because it was a nickname his mom called him. What's even the reasoning here? Because it makes no sense when you sit down and think.
The Black Order are still Boring: Out of all the improvements we've seen, it is still disappointing that these four remain as nothing more than cannon fodder for our heroes to go through before fighting the main boss. And pathetic. Immensely pathetic. I mean, for f**ks sake, THE MAW GOT KILLED BY THE PINK GIRL FROM GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY! Psychic powers and he still goes out like a b**ch!
Thanos Got Nerfed: The guy nearly killed the Avengers, with and without Infinity Stones, yet he can barely hold his own against these people who worked for him. C'MON NOW!
IN CONCLUSION
But those were just nitpicks. Despite them, I'd still consider this episode a solid A with 9.5/10. It was fun getting to see the changes T'Challa made to the galaxy, added with some pretty entertaining moments with other iconic characters. You couldn't have asked for a better final performance from Chadwick Boseman, and here's hoping that wherever he is, he knows that he shined brighter than any star in the galaxy.

new marvel teaser has me very :\
black widow? meh. i’ll watch it just cause i like her and marvel did her all sorts of dirty but nothing about the previews excite me at all. her getting an origin movie after shes been killed just rubs me wrong.
shang-chi i initially gave no shits about but it actually looks fairly interesting, plus it might bring back some things we’ve forgotten from the iron man movies
the eternals could not be any less appealing. doooooon’t care at all
spiderman i will watch bc spiderman is good and funny no matter what
doctor strange of COURSE i will watch this but i stg if wanda isn’t a villain in some capacity i’m gonna be pissed. please i’m begging marvel let strange kick her ass into next week and show her what a terrible fucking person she’s been, then maybe get her on the path to redemption. i want to see a showdown between them so bad.
thor 4 featuring more thor is something i’m not particularly excited about as i didn’t care for the format of ragnarok (it was fun but i’m in the small % of people who really liked the thor movies before it). that said, i fucking adore jane foster and i AM very excited to see her front and center where she deserves FINALLY.
black panther is going to be one hell of an emotional rollercoaster i’m not fully prepared for. definitely not going to be the same without chadwick, but exploring more of wakanda and more of the characters is going to be really cool.
the marvels i hate to say it but i’m just very meh about carol anymore. her character is rad but shes another that marvel didn’t do justice with. girl should have been able to stand up to thanos damn near better than anyone else but nah. they just kinda made her to be the token girl power character and it makes me sigh. plus like, ya can’t tell me that maria slowly died of cancer and apparently carol just?? wasn’t there??? i simply cannot believe that monica wouldn’t have contacted her and that carol wouldn’t have been by monica’s side until the snap aldkjga;lsdg cause otherwise that meant maria died ALONE and fuck that. i very much like the skrulls tho. i’ll probably watch this one after its done in theatres.
antman and the wasp i’ll probably watch when it’s done in theatres. those are fun movies but theres very little about them that reeeeaaalllyyy draws me in. interested the direction they’ll push cassie though.
gotg vol 3 i’m undecided on. i enjoy the gotg movies quite a bit in general. the first one i watched in theatres more than any other marvel movie lol but i’ll wait for previews/more of the plot details. with the team shaken up a bit idk if it’ll still be as fun
dear god please no more fantastic 4 movies just bring the characters in through other movies u g h

I've seen posts about how replaceable workers are under capitalism. If someone dies, the employer immediately starts looking for a replacement. It's insane to see this play out with Black Panther.
Chadwick Boseman passed away in August 2020. In January 2021, Kevin Feige announced that they would pass the mantle to Shuri to "honor his legacy." Like, six months after Chadwick passed away. And since then I've seen people talk about how those who won't see it cause T'Challa won't be in it aren't real fans. And those people are "anti-Shuri." Like...y'all. Even though T'Challa is not being recast, he is being replaced as the Black Panther. I won't pretend to know what Chadwick would have wanted. I'm just pointing out how quickly Marvel and MCU fans have moved on.
If you need a reminder about how replaceable you are in the capitalist machine and how quickly it will move on, there you go. It wasn't long after the initial shock and grief over Chadwick's passing that people were like "so about Black Panther 2..." and now criticizing folks who won't see it.
That's capitalism, y'all. No one is essential. It will continue moving, with or without you.

Top 10 Best Movies of 2020
2020 - what a year, eh? What a jolly, cheerful and happy year it has been, with hardly any problems and a general peaceful and prosperous time for the ever progressive people of Earth! I’m kidding, let’s get real, what the hell was 2020 all about?! What a way to begin the decade! At least we got some movies, emphasis on ‘some’ as most of them got delayed due to cinema closures. In any case, there were still some little gems that gave us some form of limited escapism in these hardship times, and here they are, my favourite films of 2020...
Honourable mentions: An American Pickle, Emma, Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe
10) COLOR OUT OF SPACE - “Milk the Alpacas!” With call-backs to 80′s John Carpenter horror films, with an added flair of Nicolas Cage and alpacas (you heard me), we are slowly plunged into a hellish landscapes of madness, deformity and desolation. So, ya know, a typical Saturday night watch with the kids!

9) UNHINGED - “I don’t think you really know what a bad day is. But you’re going to find out.” In any other year, this thing wouldn’t make the list. In 2020, a B-movie action film with a road-raging Russell Crowe is exactly the kind of entertainment I’m after! This by no means a great film, but with all the cheesy one liners and obvious foreshadowing, with Russell chewing up the scenery like it’s nobody’s business, you’re guaranteed to not be bored.

8) MA RAINEY’S BLACK BOTTOM - “I’ve got my time coming to me.” When it comes to the year’s best performance, hands down its Chadwick Boseman as the trumpet player in this film, providing us with with a role with such heart and soul (appropriately for the jazz subject), who at first comes off as this self-obsessed selfish arrogant snob who only cares about achieving his own stardom, but then as his layers are unpacked, we discover that underneath this façade is a man filled with such sadness and rage, having endured much profound trauma in his past, and it’s all brought to life so powerfully by Boseman’s dedicated performance. This role alone proves what a truly talented actor we’ve lost this year. Wakanda forever!

7) THE DEVIL ALL THE TIME - "I ain’t gonna take the blame for no bastard child!” Robert Pattinson plays a high pitched voiced priest that is a pervert. Somehow I’m sold!

6) BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC - “Be excellent to one another, and party on dudes!!” Any other year, this film would have passed the public’s eye without much of an impression and would have vanished into oblivion. In 2020 though, where so much negativity has been imposed upon us all, the simplistic absurdist debauchery of Bill and Ted is exactly what was needed to lighten everyone’s mood. Excellent!!

5) DA 5 BLOODS - “We won't let nobody use our rage against us. We control our rage.” Director Spike Lee is in the house, this time lighting up another joint and taking us on an adventure to find some treasure, whilst also providing commentary on the hardships of the Vietnam war and the PTSD that it caused to its survivors. Great cast, powerful message and a Black Panther to seal the deal!

4) THE GENTLEMEN - “There’s only one rule in this jungle! When the lion is hungry, he eats.” This is such a cool film! Like, that’s the best way to put it: so cool!! Simply a bunch of cool geezers acting all cool and mighty spilling Guy Ritchie’s cool dialogue whilst appearing super cool. Did I mention this film is cool?! So cool!!

3) SOUL - “Your life is so sad and pathetic and you’re working hard to get back to it. I mean, why? This I gotta see!” Dang it, Pixar, you’ve done it again!! In this case, it’s the movie’s earnest and profound message of learning to enjoy the little things that makes it so touching to the, ahem, soul. It may not seem like it right now, but we shall all be okay. Everything will be okay. Stay safe everyone.

2) THE TRIAL OF THE CHICAGO 7 - “We're not going to jail because of what we did. We're going to jail because of who we are!” This courtroom drama is an eye-opener of the reality of American dream and politics, and is a must-watch, even though it’s a bit late now to fix such a broken system. I’m sure many Americans may see this film as unpatriotic, but reality is actually not far from what this film is saying. It speaks the truth. The Aaron Sorkin truth! Then again, as heard many times before: “YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!”

1) EUROVISION SONG CONTEST: THE STORY OF FIRE SAGA - “Play Ja Ja Ding Dong!!” Look, I’m not even ashamed to say it, I absolutely loved this movie! It may not be the pinnacle of modern day filmmaking, but it brought so much zany fun and cheesiness that was a breath of fresh air this year. With a scene stealing performance from Dan Stevens as a campy Russian pop singer, and filled with cheesy original pop songs such as “Lion of Love”, “Double Trouble” and “Husavik”, this is THE feel-good movie of the year. I also have a special sentimental place in my heart for this flick since I told my girlfriend for the first time that I loved her after watching this movie. What can I say, I’m a hopeless romantic! I follow up a Will Ferrell with an “I love you”. This one’s for you, my lovely!

I have mix feelings about this Chadwick is important but look at the joker he has been recast so many times I feel this will give Hollywood an excuse to not make black superhero movies cause an actor died there so many Batman movies look at Superman Christopher reeves is the iconic role and till these days no body has ever made a movie without being compare but Hollywood keep making those movies this is why I’m 50/50
I mean, superheros are re-cast all the time, but usually NOT within the same exact franchise. 👀 They usually just do a reboot.
So that's what makes Chadwick's death additionally so sad. 😥 They don't want to re-cast a character when the solo franchise was JUST starting up. 😔
They will more than likely just keep the same cast, make up smthg about T'Challa, and will pass on the torch to someone else to wear the Black Panther suit.
Didn't T'Challa's father originally wear the Black Panther suit before he died anyway? It seems like the "Black Panther" is more like a mascot and symbol to the Wakandan people, so essentially "Black Panther" can be anyone. 🤷🏾‍♀️
