[1] Origin of Species, chap. iii.
[2] Nineteenth Century, Feb. 1888, p. 165.
[3] Leaving aside the pre-Darwinian writers, like Toussenel, Fée, and many others, several works containing many striking instances of mutual aid — chiefly, however, illustrating animal intelligence were issued previously to that date. I may mention those of Houzeau, Les facultés etales des animaux, 2 vols., Brussels, 1872; L. Büchner’s Aus dem Geistesleben der Thiere, 2nd ed. in 1877; and Maximilian Perty’s Ueber das Seelenleben der Thiere, Leipzig, 1876. Espinas published his most remarkable work, Les Sociétés animales, in 1877, and in that work he pointed out the importance of animal societies, and their bearing upon the preservation of species, and entered upon a most valuable discussion of the origin of societies. In fact, Espinas’s book contains all that has been written since upon mutual aid, and many good things besides. If I nevertheless make a special mention of Kessler’s address, it is because he raised mutual aid to the height of a law much more important in evolution than the law of mutual struggle. The same ideas were developed next year (in April 1881) by J. Lanessan in a lecture published in 1882 under this title: La lutte pour l’existence et l’association pour la lutte. G. Romanes’s capital work, Animal Intelligence, was issued in 1882, and followed next year by the Mental Evolution in Animals. About the same time (1883), Büchner published another work, Liebe und Liebes-Leben in der Thierwelt, a second edition of which was issued in 1885. The idea, as seen, was in the air.

[8] Forel’s Recherches, pp. 244, 275, 278. Huber’s description of the process is admirable. It also contains a hint as to the possible origin of the instinct (popular edition, pp. 158, 160). See Appendix II.
[9] The agriculture of the ants is so wonderful that for a long time it has been doubted. The fact is now so well proved by Mr. Moggridge, Dr. Lincecum, Mr. MacCook, Col. Sykes, and Dr. Jerdon, that no doubt is possible. See an excellent summary of evidence in Mr. Romanes’s work. See also Die Pilzgaerten einiger Süd-Amerikanischen Ameisen, by Alf. Moeller, in Schimper’s Botan. Mitth. aus den Tropen, vi. 1893.
[10] This second principle was not recognized at once. Former observers often spoke of kings, queens, managers, and so on; but since Huber and Forel have published their minute observations, no doubt is possible as to the free scope left for every individual’s initiative in whatever the ants do, including their wars.

[21] As to the house-sparrows, a New Zealand observer, Mr. T.W. Kirk, described as follows the attack of these “impudent” birds upon an “unfortunate” hawk. — “He heard one day a most unusual noise, as though all the small birds of the country had joined in one grand quarrel. Looking up, he saw a large hawk (C. gouldi — a carrion feeder) being buffeted by a flock of sparrows. They kept dashing at him in scores, and from all points at once. The unfortunate hawk was quite powerless. At last, approaching some scrub, the hawk dashed into it and remained there, while the sparrows congregated in groups round the bush, keeping up a constant chattering and noise” (Paper read before the New Zealand Institute; Nature, Oct. 10, 1891).

[28] Elliot Couës, in Bulletin U.S. Geol. Survey of Territories, iv. No. 7, pp. 556, 579, etc. Among the gulls (Larus argentatus), Polyakoff saw on a marsh in Northern Russia, that the nesting grounds of a very great number of these birds were always patrolled by one male, which warned the colony of the approach of danger. All birds rose in such case and attacked the enemy with great vigour. The females, which had five or six nests together On each knoll of the marsh, kept a certain order in leaving their nests in search of food. The fledglings, which otherwise are extremely unprotected and easily become the prey of the rapacious birds, were never left alone (“Family Habits among the Aquatic Birds,” in Proceedings of the Zool. Section of St. Petersburg Soc. of Nat., Dec. 17, 1874).

[31] It has often been intimated that larger birds may occasionally transport some of the smaller birds when they cross together the Mediterranean, but the fact still remains doubtful. On the other side, it is certain that some smaller birds join the bigger ones for migration. The fact has been noticed several times, and it was recently confirmed by L. Buxbaum at Raunheim. He saw several parties of cranes which had larks flying in the midst and on both sides of their migratory columns (Der zoologische Garten, 1886, p. 133).
[32] H. Seebohm and Ch. Dixon both mention this habit.
[33] The fact is well known to every field-naturalist, and with reference to England several examples may be found in Charles Dixon’s Among the Birds in Northern Shires. The chaffinches arrive during winter in vast flocks; and about the same time, i.e. in November, come flocks of bramblings; redwings also frequent the same places “in similar large companies,” and so on (pp. 165, 166).

[40] With regard to the viscacha it is very interesting to note that these highly-sociable little animals not only live peaceably together in each village, but that whole villages visit each other at nights. Sociability is thus extended to the whole species — not only to a given society, or to a nation, as we saw it with the ants. When the farmer destroys a viscacha-burrow, and buries the inhabitants under a heap of earth, other viscachas — we are told by Hudson — “come from a distance to dig out those that are buried alive” (l.c., p. 311). This is a widely-known fact in La Plata, verified by the author.

[43] In connection with the horses it is worthy of notice that the quagga zebra, which never comes together with the dauw zebra, nevertheless lives on excellent terms, not only with ostriches, which are very good sentries, but also with gazelles, several species of antelopes, and gnus. We thus have a case of mutual dislike between the quagga and the dauw which cannot be explained by competition for food. The fact that the quagga lives together with ruminants feeding on the same grass as itself excludes that hypothesis, and we must look for some incompatibility of character, as in the case of the hare and the rabbit. Cf., among others, Clive Phillips-Wolley’s Big Game Shooting (Badminton Library), which contains excellent illustrations of various species living together in East Africa.
[44] Our Tungus hunter, who was going to marry, and therefore was prompted by the desire of getting as many furs as he possibly could, was beating the hill-sides all day long on horseback in search of deer. His efforts were not rewarded by even so much as one fallow deer killed every day; and he was an excellent hunter.
[45] According to Samuel W. Baker, elephants combine in larger groups than the “compound family.” “I have frequently observed,” he wrote, “in the portion of Ceylon known as the Park Country, the tracks of elephants in great numbers which have evidently been considerable herds that have joined together in a general retreat from a ground which they considered insecure” (Wild Beasts and their Ways, vol. i. p. 102).

[48] Brehm, i. 82; Darwin’s Descent of Man, ch. iii. The Kozloff expedition of 1899–1901 have also had to sustain in Northern Thibet a similar fight.
[49] The more strange was it to read in the previously-mentioned article by Huxley the following paraphrase of a well-known sentence of Rousseau: “The first men who substituted mutual peace for that of mutual war — whatever the motive which impelled them to take that step — created society” (Nineteenth Century, Feb. 1888, p. 165). Society has not been created by man; it is anterior to man.
[50] Such monographs as the chapter on “Music and Dancing in Nature” which we have in Hudson’s Naturalist on the La Plata, and Carl Gross’ Play of Animals, have already thrown a considerable light upon an instinct which is absolutely universal in Nature.
[51] Not only numerous species of birds possess the habit of assembling together — in many cases always at the same spot — to indulge in antics and dancing performances, but W.H. Hudson’s experience is that nearly all mammals and birds (“probably there are really no exceptions”) indulge frequently in more or less regular or set performances with or without sound, or composed of sound exclusively (p. 264).
[52] For the choruses of monkeys, see Brehm.
[53] Haygarth, Bush Life in Australia, p. 58.
[54] To quote but a few instances, a wounded badger was carried away by another badger suddenly appearing on the scene; rats have been seen feeding a blind couple (Seelenleben der Thiere, p. 64 seq.). Brehm himself saw two crows feeding in a hollow tree a third crow which was wounded; its wound was several weeks old (Hausfreund, 1874, 715; Büchner’s Liebe, 203). Mr. Blyth saw Indian crows feeding two or three blind comrades; and so on.

[56] L.H. Morgan, The American Beaver, 1868, p. 272; Descent of Man, ch. iv.
[57] One species of swallow is said to have caused the decrease of another swallow species in North America; the recent increase of the missel-thrush in Scotland has caused the decrease of the song.thrush; the brown rat has taken the place of the black rat in Europe; in Russia the small cockroach has everywhere driven before it its greater congener; and in Australia the imported hive-bee is rapidly exterminating the small stingless bee. Two other cases, but relative to domesticated animals, are mentioned in the preceding paragraph. While recalling these same facts, A.R. Wallace remarks in a footnote relative to the Scottish thrushes: “Prof. A. Newton, however, informs me that these species do not interfere in the way here stated” (Darwinism, p. 34). As to the brown rat, it is known that, owing to its amphibian habits, it usually stays in the lower parts of human dwellings (low cellars, sewers, etc.), as also on the banks of canals and rivers; it also undertakes distant migrations in numberless bands. The black rat, on the contrary, prefers staying in our dwellings themselves, under the floor, as well as in our stables and barns. It thus is much more exposed to be exterminated by man; and we cannot maintain, with any approach to certainty, that the black rat is being either exterminated or starved out by the brown rat and not by man.
[58] “But it may be urged that when several closely-allied species inhabit the same territory, we surely ought to find at the present time many transitional forms.... By my theory these allied species are descended from a common parent; and during the process of modification, each has become adapted to the conditions of life of its own region, and has supplanted and exterminated its original parent-form and all the transitional varieties between its past and present states” (Origin of Species, 6th ed. p. 134); also p. 137, 296 (all paragraph “On Extinction”).
[59] According to Madame Marie Pavloff, who has made a special study of this subject, they migrated from Asia to Africa, stayed there some time, and returned next to Asia. Whether this double migration be confirmed or not, the fact of a former extension of the ancestor of our horse over Asia, Africa, and America is settled beyond doubt.

[66] “One of the most frequent modes in which Natural Selection acts is, by adapting some individuals of a species to a somewhat different mode of life, whereby they are able to seize unappropriated places in Nature” (Origin of Species, p. 145) — in other words, to avoid competition.

[70] Anthropologists who fully endorse the above views as regards man nevertheless intimate, sometimes, that the apes live in polygamous families, under the leadership of “a strong and jealous male.” I do not know how far that assertion is based upon conclusive observation. But the passage from Brehm’s Life of Animals, which is sometimes referred to, can hardly be taken as very conclusive. It occurs in his general description of monkeys; but his more detailed descriptions of separate species either contradict it or do not confirm it. Even as regards the cercopithèques, Brehm is affirmative in saying that they “nearly always live in bands, and very seldom in families” (French edition, p. 59). As to other species, the very numbers of their bands, always containing many males, render the “polygamous family” more than doubtful further observation is evidently wanted.

[72] That extension of the ice-cap is admitted by most of the geologists who have specially studied the glacial age. The Russian Geological Survey already has taken this view as regards Russia, and most German specialists maintain it as regards Germany. The glaciation of most of the central plateau of France will not fail to be recognized by the French geologists, when they pay more attention to the glacial deposits altogether.

[74] Bachofen, Das Mutterrecht, Stuttgart, 1861; Lewis H. Morgan, Ancient Society, or Researches in the Lines of Human Progress from Savagery through Barbarism to Civilization, New York, 1877; J.F. MacLennan, Studies in Ancient History, 1st series, new edition, 1886; 2nd series, 1896; L. Fison and A.W. Howitt, Kamilaroi and Kurnai, Melbourne. These four writers — as has been very truly remarked by Giraud Teulon, — starting from different facts and different general ideas, and following different methods, have come to the same conclusion. To Bachofen we owe the notion of the maternal family and the maternal succession; to Morgan — the system of kinship, Malayan and Turanian, and a highly gifted sketch of the main phases of human evolution; to MacLennan — the law of exogeny; and to Fison and Howitt — the cuadro, or scheme, of the conjugal societies in Australia. All four end in establishing the same fact of the tribal origin of the family. When Bachofen first drew attention to the maternal family, in his epoc.making work, and Morgan described the clan-organization, — both concurring to the almost general extension of these forms and maintaining that the marriage laws lie at the very basis of the consecutive steps of human evolution, they were accused of exaggeration. However, the most careful researches prosecuted since, by a phalanx of students of ancient law, have proved that all races of mankind bear traces of having passed through similar stages of development of marriage laws, such as we now see in force among certain savages. See the works of Post, Dargun, Kovalevsky, Lubbock, and their numerous followers: Lippert, Mucke, etc.
[75] See Appendix VII.
[76] For the Semites and the Aryans, see especially Prof. Maxim Kovalevsky’s Primitive Law (in Russian), Moscow, 1886 and 1887. Also his Lectures delivered at Stockholm (Tableau des origines et de l’évolution de la famille et de la propriété, Stockholm, 1890), which represents an admirable review of the whole question. Cf. also A. Post, Die Geschlechtsgenossenschaft der Urzeit, Oldenburg 1875.
[77] It would be impossible to enter here into a discussion of the origin of the marriage restrictions. Let me only remark that a division into groups, similar to Morgan’s Hawaian, exists among birds; the young broods live together separately from their parents. A like division might probably be traced among some mammals as well. As to the prohibition of relations between brothers and sisters, it is more likely to have arisen, not from speculations about the bad effects of consanguinity, which speculations really do not seem probable, but to avoid the too-easy precocity of like marriages. Under close cohabitation it must have become of imperious necessity. I must also remark that in discussing the origin of new customs altogether, we must keep in mind that the savages, like us, have their “thinkers” and savants — wizards, doctors, prophets, etc. — whose knowledge and ideas are in advance upon those of the masses. United as they are in their secret unions (another almost universal feature) they are certainly capable of exercising a powerful influence, and of enforcing customs the utility of which may not yet be recognized by the majority of the tribe.

[89] The same is the practice with the Papuas of Kaimani Bay, who have a high reputation of honesty. “It never happens that the Papua be untrue to his promise,” Finsch says in Neuguinea und seine Bewohner, Bremen, 1865, p. 829.

[95] Dr. Rink, loc. cit. p. 24. Europeans, grown in the respect of Roman law, are seldom capable of understanding that force of tribal authority. “In fact,” Dr. Rink writes, “it is not the exception, but the rule, that white men who have stayed for ten or twenty years among the Eskimo, return without any real addition to their knowledge of the traditional ideas upon which their social state is based. The white man, whether a missionary or a trader, is firm in his dogmatic opinion that the most vulgar European is better than the most distinguished native.” — The Eskimo Tribes, p. 31.

[97] Dall saw it in Alaska, Jacobsen at Ignitok in the vicinity of the Bering Strait. Gilbert Sproat mentions it among the Vancouver indians; and Dr. Rink, who describes the periodical exhibitions just mentioned, adds: “The principal use of the accumulation of personal wealth is for periodically distributing it.” He also mentions (loc. cit. p. 31) “the destruction of property for the same purpose,’ (of maintaining equality).

[100] It is most remarkable that several writers (Middendorff, Schrenk, O. Finsch) described the Ostyaks and Samoyedes in almost the same words. Even when drunken, their quarrels are insignificant. “For a hundred years one single murder has been committed in the tundra;” “their children never fight;” “anything may be left for years in the tundra, even food and gin, and nobody will touch it;” and so on. Gilbert Sproat “never witnessed a fight between two sober natives” of the Aht Indians of Vancouver Island. “Quarreling is also rare among their children.” (Rink, loc. cit.) And so on.

This takes place in chap 244. (im not gonna be too formal in my writing and excuse my grammars.)
Ryu didn't sat together with the gang during their discussion about fighting Sukuna, she just stood behind the walls listening to them. Her ears perked when Hiromi started to talk. As the discussion ended, Hiromi walked towards the wall that Ryu was at.
As he walked passed her she said to him "you're still selfish as usual. what were you thinking?" he stopped to face her and replied, "really? you wanna argue right now?" "what you're planning to do is a suicide mission." Ryu explained. "it doesn't matter if it's death mission or not. Also Atsuya has planned everything." Ryu looking down and sighed. "i don't know, i never knew that i would see you again and surprisingly you being a sorcerer. just....why are you continuing being one?" he replied, "i don't care about anything anymore. now im wondering, why are you one?" "this is going to sound stupid, fast money....and probably tring to find a purpose to live" she said. He chuckled "hmm. that's sounds like you."
As the time goes by, Hiromi spoke, "well we better get going. they might be wondering why two people are missing." "mmm." He said to her, "don't come after me if i die, stay alive and live the way you wanted to." "....i will." he gave her a small smile and said, "that's what i like to hear." he went off to meet the gang along with Ryu.
"a vacation to Greece sounds nice. i want to go with you if you survive" she thought in her head.

JJK chap 244 leak incoming:
Do you think Megumi will be the one found guilty for the Shibuya incident considering that Sukuna's massacre was due to fighting Mahoraga? I'm both worried and excited. Worried cause Megumi might be in for more hurt, and excited because finally, we might finally see him address his involvement in shibuya. He shrugged that off way too easily before but maybe after experiencing for how awful it is to lose all sort of agency in his own body, he'll finally understand where Yuji was coming from.
That said, I do wonder if this is an oversight on Yuji and co's part. Surely he would have memories of fighting Mahoraga right? So is this another loophole Sukuna can take advantage of or is this a ploy to ensure they confiscate all of Sukuna's ct (cause one of their concerns was not being sure whether judgeman would take Sukuna's or the 10S technique)?
Ok so I'm probably the only person totally not concerned with this whole situation rn, which is an irony as a self-proclaimed Megumi lover.
My surface level understanding is that if Sukuna can say he went on a rampage during Shibuya to protect Megumi, Megumi can also be seen as having summoned Mahoraga to stop Sukuna, which could muddle the whole thing. I don't know much about Japanese Law, but I guess this could as that intentional manslaughter category?
Would that warrant the death penalty?
Tumblr media
I don't even remember how his ct works.
Tbh I felt a bit like Miwa during the whole conversation about law because I didn't feel like paying attention to the details about it. All I kept thinking was "I used to want to be a lawyer when I was in college".
D did post about it on the twitta tho! Check it out.
Also, love what you said about Megumi understanding Yuji at last. I think for me I love that Megumi doesn't have the same regard for the life of others that Yuji has, but on the contrary, holds the lives of a few people close to his heart. And now Sukuna has made a mockery of that love so yeah... Even if Megumi was shown as disturbingly detached after his two kills, not being able to stop Sukuna must have made him feel very helpless and weak. It's a nice lesson to internalize for Megumi.
Thanks for stopping by 😁🩵.

Yeah Charles Choi used to be so handsome and sexy wtf happened. I could go for the old him but now he's modeling like he don't got a missing arm and ice cream hair.
Talk about the chapter to me! I want to discuss Eugene :)
Chirps and kissies!

So after the devastating chapter 244 I decided to write something post-chapter and it came out that I was very nervous because I and a friend started to discuss the possible injuries that Little Mo suffered and, I have to say, it's very ugly.
This part / fanfic (I don’t even know) is mainly focused on He Tian, since the emotions he showed in the cap were devastating to my poor little heart.
He Tian hates hospitals. He doesn’t remember well when this kind of feeling began to be connected with the white buildings and with the smell of death masked by disinfectant — and maybe he didn’t want to know, just want to hate hospitals like Mo Guan Shan hates cheese in his sandwich for no reason logic.
Do not go there, not yet. Tian closes his eyes trying not to see her thoughts. He is not very successful, but he can avoid thinking too much about why he is sitting in a chair in a hospital waiting room on a thursday night.
He Tian knows that one hour will have to think about it because he will need to tell Ms. Mo what happened and why the hell is your son in the hospital and why He Tian is dirty with blood that is not his and with bandages around his fists.
He knows, but it does not make the task any easier. Then He Tian chooses to ignore for a moment the noise of people talking and walking around him and tries to concentrate on calm down, to keep the damn control.
It's not the first time he finds himself in situations like this, but that does not make it easier to breathe and not cry. Yes, cry. He Tian knows that if He Cheng was there, or, god forbid, his father, he would surely be called weak, but the teenager does not feel that he should mind something like that when Guan Shan is in some white room of that building being treated for wounds that, if He Tian had found him before, he would not even have received them.
It is irrational to think so, but He Tian has always been very good at jumping into impulsive thoughts faster than his ability to kick someone, so it's no surprise to him to think that all would have been avoided had he been less useless, faster , smarter, more everything.
He is not surprised by the ways his thoughts take, but he is surprised at how these thoughts suddenly weigh in his heart and makes He Tian want to bend over and keep himself so that the pain does not overcome the barriers he gets self imposed.
He spends several minutes curled up in the hard chair of that waiting room until the slight touch on his shoulder awakens him to reality. There in front of you is Mo Guan Shan's mother, tearful eyes and frowns in concern.
He Tian feels as if he's about to break something too fragile for his blood-stained hands.
xx
Ms. Mo is taken by a doctor long before He Tian has a chance to talk to her and the black haired has never felt so relieved in his life. He doesn’t know what to say, especially since he does not know how Little Mo got into a fight with loan sharks.
He has his suspicions, but He Tian can not exactly ask this to Guan Shan's mother and he knows that the redhead would surely die before talking about his problems. He just hopes this is not a prelude to a worse situation than what they went through with She Li.
“HE TIAN!” It is Jian Yi with his, always, presence high and bright and beside him his faithful squire, Zhan Zheng Xi.
"Do not scream, jerk.” Zheng Xi hits hard on the back of his best friend's head. “This is a hospital.”
He Tian feels a strange weight leaving his chest to see the two friends discuss and draw even more unwanted attention from the nurses and doctors around and after a few seconds he realizes that this weight is the fear of being alone at that moment.
He almost laughs, but then he remembers where he is and why he is there and lets the laughter die in his throat. This is no time to laugh, it's time to be strong as your brother told to be.
"What are you guys doing here?" He chooses to focus on the pair of goofy. And it seems to be a good decision, since he can see that the nurses were about to call a security guard.
Jian Yi seems to finally realize where they are and stops pulling Zheng Xi's hair, which in turn loosens the grip it had on his friend's soft cheeks.
"Oh, we saw you and Redhead running and then some guys chasing you! By the way, how is he?" He Tian freezes, because that was the question he'd been avoiding asking himself.
"I don’t know. I'm not in the family so the doctors don’t talk to me." The brunet tried to maintain a neutral facade, trying not to show the panic he was still feeling all through his body.
"Why were you being persecuted? What have you gotten yourself into, He Tian?" This time it is Zheng Xi who asks, a closed and slightly accusatory countenance.
He Tian laughs, a bitter laugh, that makes Jian Yi take a cautious stance, as if he did not recognize the friend in front of him. When He Tian returns to look at the two, Zheng Xi almost regrets accusing the brunet.
He Tian seems so broken.
"Why do you think I have something to do with all this?" He Tian returns to his mask of indifference, a smile of derision gracing his lips. "I did nothing."
And for He Tian, he really didn’t. He could not protect Mo Guan Shan, their presence in the hospital is proof enough of that. He could not help Little Mo flee and was dragged into a rampage that may have worsened the wounds of the redhead.
"You brought him to the hospital, He Tian. You can not say you did nothing.” It's Jian Yi who talks, with dark blue eyes and a seriousness that is always unheard of to see in his delicate features.
He Tian once again laughs, not convinced by what Jian Yi is trying to do, what is trying to say.
"I don’t need consolation, Jian." He Tian smiles, a sour taste taking over his mouth. "I did not do anything, just because we're here is enough proof of that." He tries to smile again, but his lips are too shaky to form an arc that convinces the blond in front of him that he is right.
"So what would you have done? What would you do?” It is Zheng Xi who asks him, his eyes closed in earnest, his posture straight and protective. He almost looks like a father, trying to rebuke his son. But He Tian has long since ceased to be bullied by something like that.
"I was going to clear the path. He would have a better chance of getting away and maybe he would not be in a fucking hospital. But he had to go and pull me into his escape." He Tian says, clenching his fists as he remembers how surprised he was by the sudden pull of Guan Shan on his wrist to react and try again to fulfill his plan.
"You're an idiot." It's Jian Yi who speaks, a feral force on each syllable, making He Tian almost tremble. It is rare to see Jian Yi — soft, irritating and cheerful Jian Yi — with a scowl and eyes expelling anger.
"What?" It is He Tian who makes the first move, approaching the blonde and grabbing the collar of the other's shirt. The rage and adrenaline that still raced through her veins increased considerably.
"You heard me, you're an idiot. Worst of the worst." Jian Yi repeats himself, not at all frightened by He Tian's visceral grip on his shirt or black eyes devouring him in a raging black hole.
Zheng Xi moves, wanting to prevent the two start fighting, or rather, wanting to stop He Tian from hurting his best friend. Always the knight in white armor, He Tian mocks in his thoughts.
"You understand me, do not you, Zhang?" He Tian turns his gaze to the greens of Zheng Xi, knowing that the other blond can not lie and say he does not understand because he spent half his life protecting and clearing the path for Jian Yi.
"Shut up! Zheng Xixi would never understand this, because he's too stupid even for him!" It is Jian Yi who responds, wanting to defend his friend, but He Tian knows that it is the sheer ingenuity of Jian Yi that prevents him from seeing the truth.
"Yes. I understand." Zhang Zheng Xi answers him, his eyes still serious and his posture still ready to interfere with their quarrel. Jian Yi looks at his best friend outraged, as if he's really looking at Zheng Xi for the first time.
“Xixi! You can’t be serious! He Tian is being stupid! "Jian Yi walked away from He Tian and the dark haired man left, knowing that his attention was no longer focused on him. Zheng Xi looked at his best friend and Jian Yi calmed down. The two of them would talk about it some other time.
"I said I understand, not that I don’t think that is stupid." Zheng Xi turned his gaze to He Tian. "You were going to do that, but what about Mo Guan Shan? How do you think he would look? He could faint in an alley and no one would find him or take him to the hospital."
He Tian wants to disagree with Zheng Xi, but he does not know what to say. He knows that both Jian Yi and Zheng Xi are right, but it's hard to fully believe it when his mind keeps repeating the scenes of Guan Shan being choked, beaten and covered in blood in his arms.
"Ok. It was stupid of me." He Tian confesses, wanting to appease both blondes. He doesn’t feel exactly like this, but if doing so will give him some sense of peace then he will agree with the two friends.
“Good.” Jian Yi responds.
The three of them are silent, sitting side by side on the hard plastic chairs in the hospital's half-empty waiting room.
He Tian still feels he did nothing, still feels full of anger and anguish, but for now, he will let himself be persuaded by Jian Yi and Zheng Xi. For now he will convince himself that he did everything he could and that Mo Guan Shan will be fine.

About Tokyo Revengers chap 244...
I'll start with Sanzu, with no offense to all his fans and stans, he was unbelievably annoying with his speech. He really doesn't get that Tokyo Manji Kai is not fighting for a position in criminal world but for saving Mikey. The same Mikey he idolizes and that seems cold as ice in facing all of his friends (I've got a bad feeling about this).
As for the fights, I'm pretty sure we'll see Chifuyu versus Mochi again, Hakkai versus Ran and the two trai... Waka and Benkei against Senju. We may even see Takemichi versus Kakucho and Mitsuya versus Rindou. I can't predict anymore.
Thanks to Smiley for pointing out at Hanma and asking why is there. He probably has some tricks upon his sleeves and I can't wait to see what they are and I hope it will be something that will help (Takemichi)Toman.
As for Waka and Benkei I hope they have a valid reason to join the KMG like being spies for Takeomi or Sanzu treated them to set their goddamn gym on fire with a gasoline tank in his hand or they will be traitors.
In some other posts someone pointed out what will happen if the rest of ex tenjiku finds out that Sanzu killed Mochi. It might be interesting to see if it can break a bit the Kanto Manji Kai.
I also wish Takeomi come help his sister and bring someone with him. I have my doubts on Taiju cause he helped Takemichi once mostly cause Hakkai was dead. And for the love of God leave Kazutora safe and sound in jail. Please, I don't want him hurt or get killed.
I also have a bad feeling about someone dying, like Hakkai, but I hope I'm wrong cause I'm tired of seeing people dying.
On a bright note Rindou looks very hot in this chapter lol. Yea, I need some stupid shit to cheer me up.
Kudos to Takemichi for the great speech.

Since chap 120 was such a punch to the face, I'm just gonna get back to the previous chaps for copium. And as a heavy Sushibird supporter, undisputedly, my go-to pick was chap 102. The chap conveyed everything I expected from their whole dynamic, and of course this one particular scence:
Tumblr media
I thought it was some random coffee brand PTJ made up, but should have known better that this is a manhwa, the place where those fancy brands like Gucci, YSL, Balenciaga... makes a cameo under Jojo-sque level of copyright names. Therefore, this pack of coffee was actually a parody of Korean's most popular instant coffee brand, Maxim. What's funny tho, is that if you look up the name, most of the results will tell you that this is a sweet, sugary and (maybe) heavy cream coffee. So what can we do with this info you may ask?
Tumblr media
1. For such a heavy sweetened coffee, 244 still found a bitter scent in it. Either his bud taste completely annihilated, or he felt some sort of bitterness that altered his usual taste. After all, this was his way to mourn SeongJoon's death, in a precise and subtle manner (gotta applause PTJ for this scence). Plus the fact:
Tumblr media
244 admitted to Rumi that coffee wasn't to his liking because it made him have sleeping dificulties. (Tho this could be a lie in order to manipulate Rumi into trusting him). Yet he made a cup (and a 2nd one) to drink the day SeongJoon passed away. Maybe coffee was something SeongJoon in his living days enjoy or it was the thing those two would pull off whenever facing eachother. For now, we can see how SeongJoon's death did leave a strong impact on 244, the weight might carry on as following chapters and there will be a point when 244's backstory comes to light.
2. 244 might favors sweets. Psychopaths always pull something suprising out of them after all, this isn't that far-fetched. Well if that is the case then we do get to see a cute side of him(but ew).

Quick outline of the changes in Golden Kamuy Vol 25
Here is a general outline of the more relevant changes that take place in Vol 25 compared to the magazine. Note that as usual I won’t dig into minor changes or redraws unless they seem to be relevant for the plot or characterization (or I really like them).
So now let’s start.
WARNING: I hadn’t had the chance to check dialogues yet. When I’ll do I might update this post.
We spend a moment on the cover, which, like the previous, shows us a character who has never appeared on a cover before Oosawa Fusatarou, better known as Pirate Boutarou.
Tumblr media
Although the image shows him as he looks in present time, the background hints this is his past, when he used to ferry lumbers down the rivers and then began to pull people underwater.
Tumblr media
I’m personally glad Golden Kamuy has started dedicating covers to characters who never had one and, as I said in my past quick outline, I wanted a Boutarou cover so I’m rather happy with this cover.
Anyway this is our updated list of covers.
Tumblr media
We then move to the colour page.
Tumblr media
It’s the image with Sugimoto that was used as a cover for chap 212. Hum... it feels a little weird to have this image as we’ve left Karafuto by a long time but whatever.
A colour cover that was in the chapters included in this volume and that instead isn’t shown is the one of chap 245.
Tumblr media
Pity, I loved this one.
No summaries for this volume. Pity.
This volume counts 10 chapters only with some relevant changes, additions of extra pages and panels to expand scenes that already were in the magazine version so we can better understand what’s going on and of scenes that are redrawn, either to improve their quality, correct mistakes or add to the plot.
Note I’m not going to add them all but only those which are plot relevant (or that I particularly like). Also no scanlations this time.
Let’s start with chap 241.
We get an extra page explaining Ainu knowledge and customs.
Tumblr media
and then another telling us where the characters are and which convicts they’re searching.
Tumblr media
Asirpa’s memories of her father are expanded.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and so are her moments with Sugimoto.
Tumblr media
We move to chap 242.
The Sugimoto flashback is changed and expanded.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The bit in which Sugimoto says in order to keep his promise he has to go back home and give the money to Toraji’s wife is moved after Shiraishi searching for them and is no more in the middle of the flashback
Tumblr media
The following scenes have the panel expanded and better drawn but I couldn’t notice any relevant change. There are also some scenes redrawn as they discuss about the forest and the coin but the plot seems to remain the same.
Going on with chap 243.
Noda changed this one quite a bit, in terms of redrawing and plot. @piduai was so kind to translate most of it. As the changes are really relevant I recommend looking them up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The discussion about guilt with Usami remains the same but then scenes are redrawn again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dialogues and redrawings also in the following scenes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The discussion between Ogata and Usami after Hanazawa’s death seems the same... but then there’s a huge change in the following scene.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Usami is redrawn in the final page in which he says he’s sure Ogata will come to cause problems for Tsurumi... though the dialogues seems the same.
Let’s go to chap 244.
We’ve some interesting changes here as well. Noda changed a bit of Ueji’s dialogue with the kid.
Tumblr media
Then he showed Tarou, the kid’s dog alive as in the volume version Ueji didn’t kill him, which makes sense since his trauma was tied to his dog’s death.
Tumblr media
Boutarou’s past was redrawn and so the aggression to the kid so as to better fit with Ueji’s past.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ushiyama’s arrival is just the same, though.
We continue with chap 245.
Noda redraw Sugimoto placing his bayonet on his rifle, tossing a table at Hijikata and charging at him.
He also redraw Ushiyama getting up, but the plot seems to remain the same.
So we’ve chap 246.
There’s some minor redrawing but nothing big.
And then chap 247.
Asirpa now calls Ariko just Ipopte and no more Ariko.
Ariko talks with her more than just that she’s strong
Tumblr media
 We’ve move to chap 248.
The search through the city is expanded.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As Noda has already revealed Jack’s face he’s no more shadowed when he plays with knives and Noda removes his shape from ST Botolph’s church, the dialogues changed a little.
Tumblr media
The following pages is better redrawn but the plot seems to remain unchanged till the end.
So we’ve reached chap 249.
There are many panels better drawn and also a small change in Ostrog’s introduction.
Tumblr media
The discussion about him is redrawn as well and changed a little.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And we end with chap 250.
They’ve added a panel of Ushiyama looking scary as he grabs Usami. Some panels are also redrawn but overall nothing seems changed in a relevant way.
We finish with a tiny image of Ogata and Usami thanking the editor.
Tumblr media
And that’s all for this volume. Considering the relevant changes in the plot and the much better art Noda definitely improved this volume so really, I recommend you to buy this new volume of Golden Kamuy, either in Japanese or as soon as it comes out in your country!
