Do you know who chose my deadname? My transphobic big brother. So I doubly hate that name. But, unfortunately, It’s a common name in Iran.
There were always two or three other people in our class with that name. It’s not a religious name, but it’s popular. And people like to name their things after it. 😭
On the boulevard where I live, there are two shops with that name. I even saw a rice sack with that name! I see it every day, and I fucking hate it.
Someone up there really hates me. 🙂

deadnames: how to be careful
many people decide that they don’t like or aren’t comfortable with the name they where assigned at birth, and sometimes change it.
what that makes your name you had when you where born your “deadname”.
lots of trans people have deadnames, or people on the trans or non binary spectrum.
here’s the thing: deadnames are different for everyone.
some people don’t mind being called their deadname. Some people can’t stand it. Some people feel triggered or dysphoric. It depends on the person!
it’s important that when someone starts using a new name to try your hardest to address them how they wish, and to not use their deadname ( unless they tell you it’s alright, or the name they prefer is more of a nickname and they still go by their birth name, etc ).
using deadnames in jokes can seem funny, but to them it might not be. I don’t recommend doing this.
when you refer to them pre transition/coming out, try to not refer to them then as their deadname. Try using “you before you came out to us” or “when you where going by your original name”.

Someone on Roblox said they knew my name, said my DEADNAME instead of the name I’m comfy with and didn’t leave me alone afterwards.

cis people stop trying to reverse engineer trans people's deadnames based on their current names
most of the time it's not the gotcha you think it is because most of the time you're wrong
not every trans guy names christopher was christine before PLEASE
yeah some trans people choose their new name to be similar to their deadname
but it's not as common as you think
a lot of trans people actually want something completely different to not have the baggage of their deadname at all
and other trans people don't even change their name at all!
you look really silly when you ask alex if her old name was alexander when her parents literally just named her alex
also stop being a cunt

Say what you will about the demons but they never once call Crowley 'Crawley' after he changes it.
No dead-naming in hell.
I approve.

I always hated my deadname, even before realising I was trans

I never gave Tumblr my deadname, yet I'm getting personalised ads for customisable merch with my deadname on it, addressing me by my deadname 😑. It's mainly those shitty customisable shirts and jackets with some cringy text about how everyone with that name is a badass or something with a description saying "hey [deadname] don't you want a shirt made just for you?"
I know how they got the info, and I know it's automated, so I shouldn't be annoyed like I would be for a human who knows better, but still. I am annoyed that even on websites where I never used that name, it's still showing up...

did anyone else struggle with changing their name? did your chosen name feel awkward at first, or am i going with the wrong one? something that doesn't suit me?
like my deadname is still mine and i almost don't want to lose it, but it's also not me? so i feel nameless. like what am i called?
my chosen name, the name my partner calls me, doesn't feel like mine. it's not the one i'm used to hearing come out of his mouth. does this... get better, easier?
the name i'm trying is one i like but it doesn't feel any more like me than my deadname so... idk advice?

tempted to lie to my new coworkers and tell them to call me by my chosen name and not my dead name.
luckily for me, Kai is actually pretty close to my real name, so I can at least say oh it's a nickname.
cis people understand nicknames.
