Rise Characterizations Pt. 3!!!

Now that Leo and Raph are done, it's Donnie's turn for character analysis as a writing reference. So without further ado,

Donnie Character Notes

Language Habits:

Straight up talks like a redditor who hasn't touched enough grass (affectionate)

Oscillates between very scientific paper polished, sometimes adding a dazzle of shakespearean for dramatics, or abbreviations/a shorter version of a word with a more fun connotation (i.e. "brekkie" instead of breakfast)

Uses food as surprised exclamations or curses, "oh my peaches and cream", "banana pancakes!"

Emphasizes each syllable of a long word when he's excited or trying to make a point. Conquered becomes con-qu-ered

Either exaggerates his speech or speaks in deadpan

The science terms he uses as battle cries aren't chosen at random, but rather are related to the action/subject at hand, i.e. yelling "fibonacci" when throwing his spinning tech-bo

Will overly describe an item or a situation, and often gets caught up in these observations before processing what just happened

Will repeatedly yell "help!" when he's distressed and/or outnumbered

Refers to Mikey as "Michael"

Refers to his brothers as "brethren" or "gentlemen"

Refers to splinter as either "father", "papa", or "dad" depending on the weight of the situation

Refers to his tech as his "babies"

Answers the phone with, "You're conversing with Donatello"

Uses "gesundheit" instead of bless you

Personality:

The fixer, he supplies the family with tech and resources. He always has a trinket made for the situation at hand and/or offers his knowledge/data collected. He's always prepared to help. Even with outside resources, he likes to feel useful in solving their problems (i.e., building Todd that dog park)

The theater kid, in a similar vein to leo, Donnie has his own style of dramatics. He often uses shakespeare-like language, is mentioned to regularly recite the jupiter jim musical soundtrack, and has a music mode for his battle shell. He belongs on a stage, or at least thinks he does

Not good at lying, despite the glamour he can put on in the spotlight. This may be due to the side of himself that over explains his thoughts

An over-thinker, who really tends to over-complicate things. His first theory or idea will always be the most extreme buck-wild concept. After some filtering, he still word vomits

A dreamer/big idea guy. He does have big ideas and goals. A lot of these he's able to put into place, although some go a little haywire (see Albearto). He doesn't do things in halves, and puts everything into a project

Meticulous, someone who's very detail oriented. As mentioned before he tends to over-complicates things. This may be impacted by his love for data and collecting information (he does record Everything for a reason)

Always on the edge of violence, which is surprising. Donnie's not known as being the angry archetype of tmnt, but he can get a little violent in his fighting style and does often cite his desire to use lethal force

Low empathy, which is mainly due to his issues processing and recognizing emotions. He's been pegged as unemotional, but in canon he's rather emotional and expressionate, just lacking the skills to process such emotion (he's just like me fr)

Praise motivated, as seen with his interactions with Splinter. Also desires the praise of his brothers, who he doesn't feel understand him with all the teasing that's sent towards his direction. This also pushes him to seek validation and acceptance in other groups (i.e. the purple dragons), to feel a sense of security or belonging

Ignores his own mistakes, and will often pretend like they didn't exist or ever happen. This most likely has to do with his desire for praise, so he feels bad when he fails. If he never made a mistake, he never has to feel bad

Miscellaneous:

Fourth to unlock mystic powers

Uses "Bootyyyshaker9000" as most of his usernames and passwords, with his alt. username being "Alpha-Bootyyyshaker9000"

Has a fear of bees, spiders, and of course beach balls

Breaks the fourth wall the most

Loves the smell of pineapple, hates the texture

Has a hobby of rooting around in the junkyard and dumpster diving

Uses cheat codes in video games

Stan head canons

Hii, these are a little based on the episodes and popular opinions, but I also wanted to share some of my ideas. I guess most of them apply when he is older. ( Also, excuse my bad English in some of the phrases. I’m not sure if it’s right)

Please feel free to share your own head canons ^^

He is the messiest person to ever exist. All his clothes are scattered around his room together with music sheets and occasionally cans from energy drinks.

He loves animals, especially dogs. He sometimes goes to the local animal shelter to play with them. He drags Kyle with him.

He also invites Kyle everyday to walk Sparky with him. He loves walking around at dawn since the streets aren’t that busy.

His sleep schedule is completely messed up. He stays up way too long even on school days to play video games or work on songs.

He either has too much energy for the day or no at all. There is no in between.

Whenever he has to do an assignment, he is always procrastinating until the very last day. Somehow he always managed to finish it ( sometimes with Kyle’s help)

He wouldn’t survive a day without music. His headphones are always turned up to the max, making his friends question how his ears are still okay.

His music taste includes almost everything and he couldn’t tell you what his favorite song is. He also writes his own songs and plays the guitar. He wishes to be in a band again and is trying to convince some of his friends to join.

He somehow is still the quarterback of the football team, but he doesn’t take it really seriously. It’s fun sometimes though. The school forces every student to join a sports club.

His best subjects are music and history. Everything else is pretty average.

He only drinks at parties or with friends, but he often overestimates himself and ends up drunk and Kyle has to get him home.

He has undiagnosed adhd.

He is really good at Super Smash, but sucks at Mario Kart.

Stan loves Kyle’s hair and always tries to talk him out of cutting it. ( he had cried once when Kyle shaved his head as a kid)

He is the cousin of Craig and also has peruvian roots. He can speak Spanish, but is mad that Craig is better at it.

He is bisexual.

He absolutely can’t flirt without making it extremely awkward. His bros are the exception.

He either replies to a message immediately or weeks later. Phone calls aren’t even let through with a few exceptions like his mom, Kyle or Kenny.

Stan has given himself an earring and wanted give himself a piercing too. Kyle stopped him ( fr don’t do that. Mine got infected).

He has the habit of dying his hair blonde whenever something slightly inconvenient happens and regrets it afterwards.

Stan used to hold Kyle’s hand whenever he had to take his insulin shot. Since Kyle once nearly died from his diabetes, he is a bit more cautious about his best friend’s health.

Almost everyone likes him since he is a pretty chill guy.

He rarely eats meat and pays attention to only buying bio products.

2 - How loosely or strictly do they use the word ‘friend’?

Very loosely. He calls everyone his friend, even if he’s only spoken to them once — he refers to Ghost as his friend, despite the fact that they Very Clearly Dislike Him, and never leaves the Abyss

7 - What would you tell in the middle of a crowd to find them? What would their best friend and/or romantic partner yell?

Me? I’d be like, “WHERE THE GOD DAMN IS THAT STUPID MOTHFUCK”. He would proceed to call me a bitch from across the room, and I would be able to locate him easily.

Holly, on the other hand, would say they found some type of critter. Laika loves little critters.

21 - What common etiquette do they disagree with? Do they still follow it?

After some googling, as I have no idea what qualifies as ‘common etiquette’, I have some proper answers.

He doesn’t always use proper greetings. Usually he’s just like “hey” or “sup”, unless he’s speaking to someone of high order or whatever the word is, then he speaks “properly”. (e.g. speaking with Chrysanthus/PK, Viol/WL, or other royals)

He also doesn’t always say “please” and “thank you”. Generally, this is because he forgets — he is a self-insert after all, and I also constantly forget to do this.

He doesn’t give a damn about “proper table manners”. Neither do I. He hasn’t cared since he was a kid, same as me.

He also couldn’t give two shits and a flying fuck about minding his language. He swears like a sailor, and on very rare occasion, he’ll call himself a slur. Just like me fr!

He is VERY respectful of others’ personal space. One of very few things he treats with importance.

He doesn’t care about dressing “appropriately”. He wears whatever the fuck he wants. He grew up in Bugaria, and over there, clothing isn’t really mainstream.

(At one point, in the Bee Kingdom’s hive, Kabbu references the choice of scarves and cloaks as clothing items to buy in the clothing shop. He says he doesn’t much care for clothing — and most bugs in Bug Fables don’t wear any form of clothes, either. Leif uses his wings as a cloak, but he’s not actually wearing anything.)

Laika sucks at listening unless he likes you, or whatever you’re talking to him about. Autism be like

The last one doesn’t really apply here, because phones don’t exist in Bugaria, or Hallownest.

But, in modern variants that I’ve never released, he does use his phone very often. He spams Holly with TikToks every five seconds.

(Oh, and phones also exist in Ette’s home kingdom. But Laika’s never been there, so in canon EP, he doesn’t own one.)

Omg thanks hahah. No worries it’s not a request or anything. Just ranting and asking your opinion because you write chishiya so beautifully 😩 and it’s no fun to share random blurts that I had about this man with my rlfriends who couldn’t appreciate his existence.

I have been thinking about Chishiya with a popular s/o. Do you think Chishiya will mind? I think he would be annoyed because he prefer to be in the shadow and doesn’t like people to know about his business. But I can also see him as perfect candidate as a famous person’s boyfriend ya know? Like that man will not be bothered at all if you got scandalous dating rumours or working with attractive costar. He is pretty secure with himself.

So yeah I’m stuck here with my plot. Which do you think Chishiya would value more. Will having no privacy be his deal breaker?

i think chishiya as a famous person's bf has its pros and cons? he is definitely a very private person, so he wouldn't mind signing an NDA and keeping everything a secret/private

at the same time, i wonder if he would think it's too problematic/too much of a headache? i can definitely see him being put off by the paparazzi 🤔

i think he might need some convincing, but he could consider dating a famous person, especially if it means he can have benefits, such as private and avant-première viewings. i headcanon manga chishiya as secretly enjoying art galleries bcs art is subjective and he won't feel weird for not understanding a painting exactly as the next person does

netflix chishiya is portrayed as having more empathy, so depending on which version of canon you prefer, he will be more or less a good boyfriend for a celebrity. ofc, i don't really see manga chishiya as trying to date anyway. at least not before the borderlands🤷‍♀️

if his s/o is a normal person, but just popular in general, he would definitely be smug about it still. he would also find it interesting how so many people crowd around a person who isn't even famous, just because they are nice or funny. he would definitely choose to hang out with s/o's friends just to observe the interactions (i think this gave me some ideas for trtc omg)

also, if the celebrity!s/o has dating rumours or good-looking co-stars, i agree that he wouldn't be bothered by it. he is too rational to let jealousy get the best of him fr.

i imagine it more like, he is on the sofa, scrolling on his phone. celebrity!s/o is sitting next to him. an article pops up on his phone.

y/n l/n rumoured to be dating co-star. then some pictures of them together laughing in close distance.

chishiya looks over to you, an eyebrow raised, and reads the title out loud. "there are some interesting pictures too," he muses.

when you turn to look at him, you see his lips quirked up in amusement and his shoulders relaxed.

"it's just a rumour," you say the obvious. "we started doing the promo for the newest season and have to act close. he asked to meet you, by the way. if you want to come on set one day, you could. or we can go out for drinks."

chishiya turns back to his phone, wondering if coming on set and dealing with the paparazzi is really worth it.

"we'll see," is all he says, then he scrolls down. he's never cared about the rumours anyway. he knows that at the end of the day, he is the only one in your mind.

he is so secure, i don't see him getting jealous too often. maybe if there is something else going on with the rumours, like s/o not having time for him anymore, or them not answering his texts? then, i see him acting petty for a short while before telling s/o about it. i don't think he would sit them down, he would just be asshole-y and cold about it

I love him so much he is the most complex and 5 dimensional character in the entire DHMIS series I loved that bit where he saved those orphans from a burning building.

2. Yellow Guy

Look at him. He is exquisite. He's made of nothing but sunshine and lemon easter peeps and his brain is made of candy-floss.

Fr he is my favourite, for multiple reasons which are very intricate and personal to my being and if I said them all you'd be reading for about five hours.

The main reason is because he's one of my favourite tropes concentrate.

I'm an absolute sucker for the type of charater that tries to make the best out of dark situations. He... tries. Maybe he's the way he is because he's just too stupid to understand, but I choose to beleive that he knows but... pretends he doesn't. At least a little bit.

Also his design is gorgeous. I never liked the colour yellow but now it's my favourite ^-^

Anyways he is litterally my Blorbo

3. Duck

My favourite lil' bitch. Skrunkly thang. Bastard.

What I like abt Duck is he's so widespread in his character.

Their like everyone's grumpy grandad, little old lady that knits you scarves for the winter, goofy uncle that lives in the woods with a shotgun and a bottle of whisky, sassy wine aunt, dad that reads the paper in the morning and has rthe worst dance moves ever, housewife mum from the fifties, little brother that wants you to look at his planes and moody big sister that wants you to gtfo of her room rn she's talking to Braydon shut up Braydons on the phone all in one.

He genuinely, desprately wants others to like him, to look up to him and see him as a friend. But they can never quite get there.

That's why they love anybody and everybody who loves them back, because not many do.

They're voice smells good also ^-^

4. Red Guy

He's only this far down bc he looks like a used tampon to me and I can't unsee it, so the other two I hold at a slightly higher pedastal bc of it.

He's the cool guy, laid back and sad, and I like his swag.

But he canonically hunts wales for sport and I don't have much to say about him really, I like Red but he's certainly not my favourite. That doesn'y mean I don't like him though.

5. Roy

Roy :) Worlds Worst Father. He has a cheese puff for a nose. He has contacted absolutely every sexually transmitted disease onto his person.

6. Colin

Con da puter ^^^^^^^^^

My favourite teacher methinks. He's much more goofy and I love that abt him. Unlike the others he just seems to want the trio to have fun, if in his odd little twisted way.

He's just a little narccisistic kid really. That nerd that had pokemon cards that thought he was fresh af for having all the shinys.

NEW COMFORT MOVIE UNLOCKED ! below the cut you'll find a mixture of personal thoughts of the film & a strand of canon's that i'll be following during my portrayal. SPOILERS.

first, i'll discuss the way that the emails are leaked and the canon that i'll be following. i am miguel hater, first and foremost. my portrayal follows the book variant with luna ( my king, we lost fr ) infiltrating richard's campaign. miguel was a bitter hater and was chasing cock and got mad when he was rejected.

second, i miss my junebug. i assumed she would have been blended into nora's character and i guess in some senses she was, given the pez storyline. however, there were no other elements of her within nora's character. she was a staple character within the book and to see her scraped HURT. she is the best big sister alex could have ever asked for and will continue to exist in my portrayal.

third, ellen and oscar. WHERE WAS LEO?! it stripped some elements to alex's character and again, in my canon, alex is a child of divorced parents. i loved the happy couple but ellen deserved her silly little husband leo. i understand the reasoning because that's a whole storyline that would have taken up too much of the movie (like the luna storyline) but.. this is why i was rooting for a limited series.

fourth, ALEX'S SPEECH?! you are so sick and twisted. i wasn't even actively crying but my eyes stung so much. i just let the tears fall but it was so beautiful. i could feel him watching.

fifth, they cut the cornetto scene entirely. not much else to say. not angry, just disappointed.

sixth, henry will remain as prince henry fox - mountchristen - windsor rather than prince henry hanover - stuart fox.

seventh, the key and the signet ring. i actually LOVED this. now we're equal. the thought of them having something of each other rather than henry having nothing. i do believe that alex bought another chain to wear his ring on rather than keeping it on his pinky and just keeping henry close to his chest.

eighth, the paris scene did everything i wanted it to. like the intimacy scene... yeah, i know you all felt it too, don't lie.

finally, zahra stole the show for me. the morning after scene. the phone call with shaan. her looks. HER. she is mother to a lot of y'all but you just don't get it.

this will be added to later. i just need to say that i love both the book and the film BUT, to me they are two seperate things as some of the differences made quite the impact on the storyline. i am no way slating the film because i genuinely did love it like i was either smiling, giggling or crying the entire time. however, i hold them both near and dear to my chest but my portrayal will follow the book more than the film.

still putting robin in a guest room by season 4 doesn’t make sense. They’re calling steve’s bed “the bed” robin has permanently taken over the left bedside table. Steve is constantly getting on to her about leaving her (empty) glass of water there all day. sometimes Steve puts a hand under his pillow and gets poked by the earring robin spent the last week looking for.

actual codependent things I think robin and steve could do because they’re kinda fucked up and traumatised:

this is actually already canon: Steve being self-sacrificing, always putting himself in danger if it means robin (and the others) will be safe. Steve making sure the Russians were focused on torturing him and not robin, being the one to swim down to Watergate instead of anyone else.

I think robin puts off applying to college because she doesn’t want to leave Steve behind in hawkins. this is her own version of self sacrifice: she’s sacrificing her happiness and freedom by choosing to stay in hawkins. she probably feels guilty when she does start sending out applications.

also kinda canon: a little too involved in each other’s romantic relationships. Steve trying to figure out if vickie likes girls through her film choices and where she pauses comes to mind.

a more toxic way this can manifest: trying to protect each other from heartbreak by trying to prevent conflict. icing out romantic interests that they don’t like, stepping into their arguments to try and sort them out for them. very “it’s you and me, me and you, and your friend Steve” energy, but not that cute.

maybe more but these are definitely the main ways it shows up in their relationship

My #1 post of 2022

I was thinking about the head canon of Steve being Italian, through his mom because Harrington is like super Irish, and I have some ideas

first off, I don’t think Steve can speak Italian super fluently. I think his mom was first generation and she worked really hard to sound American and so she didn’t really speak it at home. Steve only heard Italian when his mom was on a long distance phone call with her family back home or when she got homesick and listened to an Italian language radio station. Steve loved hanging out with his mom though, and he loved listening in on her conversations because I know my boy is a little gossip, so he picked up on understanding the language fairly well, but never really got the hang of speaking it

until, when he was like 10 years old and they went to Italy for the summer. his nonna, who he had literally only talked to on the phone, was dying and she wanted her daughter to come back home. she and Steve go together, his dad comes for a couple weeks but then has to go back to work, and they’re there for months, fully immersed. he even spends a month at school with his cousins, who he gets along with pretty well. that’s not to say it was easy at first, definitely not

Steve probably spent the first few weeks there quiet as a mouse just listening to everyone speak. everyone thought he was just a dumb American, chastising his mother for not teaching him their language, teasing him because they thought he couldn’t understand. but they all get surprised when he speaks up when one of his aunts is going in on his mom and he calls her out in actually pretty good Italian. after that, he gets included more, his cousins discover that he’s actually pretty funny besides being American. he still gets teased because his accent needs some serious work, but by the time his Nonna dies and his dad is flying down for the funeral and to take them back to America, he feels pretty damn Italian

he half hopes that he and his mom could stay here, where he has family he actually gets a long with, but his dad’s kinda mad at how native they’ve gone while he’s been gone. now he’s the odd one out and he doesn’t like it. he brings them back to hawkins and issues an Italian ban because he doesn't like not knowing what his wife and son are talking about. and then news about the affair breaks out

see, while Steve and his mom were in Italy, hanging out with family, looking after a sick old lady, and preparing for a funeral, mr harrington was getting dirty with his secretary. so now his mom is paranoid that it will happen again if he gets out of her sights so she ends up going with him on a bunch of business trips. leaving poor Steve alone. and without the practice Steve’s Italian skills go downhill until high school and he starts taking a second language

not many people choose to take Italian, more going for French or Spanish, so it’s a small class. he thought it would be easy for him, since he already knew Italian even if he was out of practice, but this wasn’t the regional Italian his mom and her family spoke, this was The Official Italian Language. so it’s not as easy as he thought it would be but he actually manages to pick it up pretty quickly. yes, Italian is one of his best classes. yes, his accent is still pretty bad

anyway I don't think Steve keeps it a secret that he’s actually pretty good at Italian but not many people know. most of the kids in hawkins are barely passing Spanish or French, the few that are good at languages don’t think of him as someone good at languages so they don’t bother him. it’s not until robin claims she can speak Italian fluently that it even comes up

basically I think Steve and robin gossip in Italian bc they love that only they know what they’re saying. Steve teaches her some of the regional dialect he grew up on, she goes holy shit this means that we can hit up Sicily on our Europe trip and Steve’s very happy about that (because yay best friends trip and also he can visit his family again!)

You pull up, placing your phone down so that it records the passenger seat and you recline the seat.

You pull out a tube of lipgloss and begin applying it in the camera as if you were using it as a mirror and Ushi comes up to the side of the door, knocking twice on it before he opened it.

He gives you a short greeting, a ghost of a smile on his lips, climbing in

So! Since this is the first Voxtagram post, lemme include the big ol’ disclaimer that’s going to apply to all of these posts: we don’t yet know how canon these accounts are.

This is why they’re broadly accepted as canon: as far as I have been able to track back (correct me if you know better & have a source!), the first of these accounts, Blitzo’s, was found by fans because Vivzie followed it when it was brand new. Since then, new accounts have been discovered as they follow/interact with each other. Some official artists have interacted “in character” with the accounts. The accounts accurately announced when the “Addict” music video was going to come out, and some art posted before “Addict” used imagery that was also used in the music video. So either the accounts are definitely made by the canon creators or else being made by somebody who’s got inside access to the creators.

But, as far as I have seen, nobody on the Hazbin crew has taken credit for running them. More importantly, nobody has said how canon the blogs are. Maybe every image/word posted by these accounts is 100% accurate/canonical; or maybe the art is canon but the roleplaying in the comments is noncanon goofy fanservice; etc. We don’t know yet. It appears safest to say these accounts are probably mostly canon—but take it with a grain of salt.

So until we’re directly informed how canon the Voxtagram accounts are, Voxtagram posts are going to be tagged “#semi canon” (the same tag I’ll be using for stream transcripts) to indicate that it appears to be info coming from the creators, but it may or may not still be canon/accurate by the time the full shows and comics are released.

oooh you tagging me on that canon divergence post made my brain go ‼️‼️‼️and actually helped me solve a plot problem I had!! So thank you!!!! And I’m so psyched that you’re invested 👀 fr tho i LOVE canon divergence so much holy shit, both reading and writing it… and like that is exactly how I write it, I’m like “oh what if X” and then suddenly im juggling plot changes like a fuckin clown

aaaaa i'm so glad!! and YES i am deeply invested, honestly do it all anew is my favorite currently-updating TMA fic!! each update has given me so much serotonin so thank you for that ☺️

i think canon divergence is SO fun!! altho i don't have the time to write fanfic these days i love how like. fanfic as a medium allows folks to break free from traditional storytelling mores and do something like rube goldberg a plot? when writing original stuff i obsess about making my plot as tight as possible to its central thesis and themes, whereas with fanfic you have the freedom to be looser, indulge in your "what if"s, play around with different themes, go on tangents, figure it out as you go.

and part of why i love your writing so much (both do it all anew and resigned though not to fate) is because you're really skilled at finding a balance between establishing strong themes, building a compelling plot that has a coherent and emotionally resonant arc, while also playing in the sandbox that is fanfic and indulging in what ifs. it results in a really satisfying story that leaves me going "YES this is how TMA could have been if it started the same but the story was built around different themes and told a different message."

and personally i go apeshit over do it all anew because i LOVE the questions you explore, which are touched on but never expanded in canon, like - how can shared trauma both bring people together AND push them apart? in canon we *see* the apocalypse's strain on jon & martin's relationship but also martin *tells* jon that their relationship is built on shared trauma. and canon doesn't explore and complicate that!! because there isn't space for it!!

but meanwhile in do it all anew, you start out like "ok so they sleep together because of the unknowing" which seems like the setup to a cut and dry "shared trauma brings people together." but then it isn't presented as a natural climactic moment of romantic connection in the face of danger, it's complicated by the reveal that the sex was a *performance* on jon's part because he felt like it was the only way to express his feelings. and it leaves martin with this tenuous connection to a partner he thinks is dead, that he then has to navigate on his own - making the aftermath of their making love something that's both deeply lonely and a thread of connection to a person he thought he'd lost forever. so bittersweet and tragic!!! and then when jon cuts the tether and they lose aamal, that's a shared trauma that *destroys* their relationship (i presume??? i know we're not quite there yet.) but then aamal coming back to them is a traumatizing event for her that is also the entire foundation for her forming a relationship with her fathers. augh it's so deliciously complicated!!

and another super compelling question being - is it possible to rebuild a relationship that has been irreparably shattered, if the cause of that shattering is belatedly softened/negated? or does the fact that you've had to live with the trauma and hurt and anger and sadness of that shattering for a long time make it so that even if the initial "problem" is solved, you can't undo the hurt you had to feel enough to access the love you originally felt for that person? in do it all anew this is obviously aamal returning to jon and martin several years after the fact. but the shattering-that's-belatedly-solved problem exists in canon as well, to a lesser extent, when jon dies and comes back, and when martin pushes jon away/chooses the lonely during s4 and then it turns out he's actually fucking with peter lukas. but canon never dives into the emotional aftermath of those events and how they affect jon and martin's relationship (safehouse fics do though so god bless fanfic writers).

and i'm really excited to see the moment where jon becomes the pupil because it's like. is it forgivable to choose saving countless strangers over saving your family, your child? is it forgivable to do the opposite? which choice is the greater evil? which is a question that AGAIN is touched on in canon but mag 200 is too damn short to really tackle it, plus in canon we don't see the aftermath somewhere else, PLUS i think the existence of a baby, an innocent who you love more than life and are responsible for, makes it SO much more complicated. like!!! how inconceivably guilty must jon feel about starting the apocalypse that he would choose to kill his daughter and his partner as an alternative to spreading the fears? how inconceivably guilty would he then feel when after it all, he goes against what he feels is right and he and martin STILL lose aamal? how inconceivably betrayed would martin feel that jon would choose strangers' lives over his family's? could he ever forgive jon for that? AUGH it's so TRAGIC and COMPLEX i can't wait to see what you do with it!!!

anyway that was accidentally an essay that i spent an hour tapping on my phone but. thank you for this fic!

Fugo wasn’t a happy person. That was simply a fact. How could anyone be happy with themselves when they were obviously the worst person to ever be around. He’d seen people avoid him before, sometimes his own friends would avoid him upon seeing him. Even more so now that-

now that he wasn’t one of them anymore. So, small recap, Fugo had basically left his friends for dead when they’d decided to betray the boss of Passione. Fugo has told them it was a suicide mission, that they couldn’t exist without the mob, and basically turned his back on them. Narancia hadn’t even gotten on the bot at first, conflicted with the choice he had to make, though in the end, he dove off the stairs and swam after the boat. Fugo made no moves to follow his friends, instead standing on the stairs and watching them disappear. Once he couldn’t see the boat anymore, he turned away and left. He made his way back to Naples and got a job playing piano at a bar, earning tips and surviving off of leftovers the owner of the bar would let him have. Obviously, they felt bad for Fugo. He didn’t know why anyone would. He later regret his decision- no, he didn’t regret it, he still couldn’t imagine himself going with them- no, he resented his choice. Because of his choice, he no longer had friends. Unlike he had said would happen, somehow, everyone survived it all, which Fugo wondered was just really lucky. He knew how powerful the boss must have been, he knew the elite guards were all menaces, troublesome beings. It was no wonder the boss had had them under his thumb for years. Even though his friends had made it, he questioned if they were even friends anymore. One day, he’d ran into Mista, almost quite literally, and had nearly been pierced through the heart by the glare he’d been given. Not even a greeting or a wave or even a nod of acknowledgement, but an icy glare that left Fugo question everything. Do I still have friends? What are they doing right now? Do they still care about me? and the retort made by his mind

No, I’m alone now. They’re probably doing something like having a nice dinner together or playing some board game that doesn’t involve numbers. They probably don’t care anymore, after all, I left them, not the other way around.

“ Are you okay?” Someone asked him. He blinked twice, tears sticking to his snow colored eyelashes. He wiped his eyes with his sleeve, nodding as he sniffled. “ Yes,” His voice was rough and it took all his will not to sob. “ I’m fine. Just having a rough night.” “ I can see that.” Fugo studies the person. The person in front of him was female, short, and had brown hair that went to her chin with braided extensions that went to her elbows. Quite a style. It took Fugo a few moments to recognize her, but once he did, he felt even worse. “ Sheila.” He said her name as if he were saying hi to an acquaintance, not quite a friend. “ What are you doing here?”

“ Stuff.” She said nonchalantly, sitting on the bench with Fugo. “ I wasn’t aware you played piano.” “ I’d have thought you’d have guessed.” Fugo said this with a hint of smile in his voice but a frown on his face. “ Rich kids like me get to learn all sorts of things.”

“ Cool.” Sheila wasn’t interested. “ I know ballet too,” He didn’t know why he said that. Perhaps he hoped he could make a new friend with Sheila. Although it was, by all means, hopeless. Sheila didn’t have friends, she had enemies. Why would she be friends with the piano playing, good for nothing, low ranking albino with a deadly stand? “ I took lessons with my sister.”

“ You did? You have a sister?” Sheila asked. Fugo nodded. “ It didn’t last long, my sister gave up.” “ If only my sister had given up.” Sheila mused. “ Do you ever wish things were different?” Fugo said this thinking about his choice to let his friends- he had to stop referring to them as his friends though- go, or maybe the better way to phrase it would be that he’d left them. Left them because he was a f*cking coward! “ Yeah.” Sheila hummed. “ But this is not what I’m here for, to talk about feelings and all that.”

“ Why then?” Fugo asked. “ I’ve been asked to bring you back to Passione.” She said, standing up. She hastily pulled out a pocket knife and pointed it at Fugo. “ So you’ll be coming with me.” Fugo didn’t fight it as Sheila dragged him by the tie outside and down the street to a hotel, telling him they’d be staying here till she received word of what she should do with him. I’m guessing I’m doomed, he thought. I wonder what is in store for me now.

In November I met up with Google Top Contributors from North and South America for Google’s TC Summit. Here’s ⅗ of my face with some really fantastic humans who like to help others with Google’s stuff.

2017 Google Top Contributor Summit – Americas

A little background: Google’s Top Contributor program is basically a group of hand-picked tech enthusiasts who hang around in Google’s product forums and help. I’m a part of the Webmaster Central Help Forum. We tackle all the stuff you associate with SEO, and then some. It’s wicked fun. I’ve been in that forum since around 2008 and before that in Google’s Sitemaps forum (when figuring out XML syntax was the fresh hot thing re: ~2005/6ish). It’s no wonder I have such a hoppin’ social life, yeah?

It’s easy for Google to cherry pick case studies and we all know there are downsides to tossing resources into AMP, but I still think it’s worth exploring for most sites.

Stealing from AMP

Taking the code for AMP components but using it in otherwise “regular” pages. Can you do this? Yeah. Will it work? Probably / most of the time. It may bust some stuff. So, steal clean code but just make sure you test mkay?

But, AMP as canonical is a pretty cool idea and some sites are already doing it (check out http://ift.tt/2AFs2fn, http://ift.tt/2fMzw3r, https://tasty.co/, http://ift.tt/2wTcCRO).

Google Search Console

All of the new things! Lots coming! For the love of all that is holy give me more beta access, Google!

GSC became a sort of slow lumbering beast with a plate of spaghetti code over the years. Google is fixing that. And adding new things. GSC is going to be a lean and useful beast.

Lots to come, but my fav new feature is a link function to share static/visual reports similar to gdrive sharing.

I’m also digging the deeper focus on structured data. There’s so much you can do with the right markup. Stuck? We love exploring new ways to markup your content so don’t be shy. Google’s pushing SD to become more and more important especially with mobile-first and browser-less search results.

And big G is working on cleaning up some of that structured data spam we all see in the SERPs.

We saw interesting case studies on fighting international spam trends (and learned that Turkish hackers are probably the nicest) and got new information on how spam and spam links are handled these days.

Safe Browsing

The usual suspects: malware, phishing, UwS, social engineering, etc.

Implementing repeat offender policies that even I think are too nice.

Making sure webmasters know the biggest risks – I’m looking at you shifty ad networks and rando 3rd party plugins.

Web security

Google wants to educate webmasters to find, clean up, fix and resolve web security issues with a PWA that Google announced at I/O this year

It’s pretty sexy. Seriously though, running a Linux server and full WordPress implementations in the browser that largely works offline. Holy hell it’s a fun way to promote web security education.

So…. Whatd’ya Learn?

Lots of things. All of the things. Details on existing stuff, new stuff, stuff coming soon. I am under NDA on a lot content so I’m limited on specifics I can share, but the TC program is meant to share info between TCs and Googlers so we can all give better help and do better work.

Other Shenanigans

I participate in the TC program because I like to help. I like the people (even the weird ones; especially the weird ones). I love technology and having a safe place to learn. And it feels really good to be recognized by Google. I’m a sucker for recognition and a pat on the back. I really love being able to take all of the goodness and bring it back to my work & my team here. Local SEO Guide cares about giving out really good SEO guidance and solving really tough problems and being a TC has helped prep me to be a small part of the bigger picture.

The 2013 Summit was the year of the bottle of tequila & a conveyor belt of White Castle burgers (for real). I was invited, with my friend Sasch, to give a presentation to Googlers & other webmasters. OMG! And of course, 2013 was the year I took a pic with Cutts that allows me to photoshop him endorsing pretty much whatever. I take requests.

Per product 1:1 time with engineers to give feedback and test new tech (including some awesome stuff Google has coming s(w)oon). I participated in:

Search Console

Webmaster Central, and

VR mobile gaming. You guys, monster trucks driving on your table via your phone. *fist pump*

General Sessions

TCs from all of the different support forums are together for the first day. The day was full of:

BIG thank you’s from the Google teams for all of the TCs

Updates on the TC program/platforms

Google hardware – phones, laptops, Click, Home, Daydream, those fantastically magical ear buds I want to get my hands on, etc.

More about the phased-rollout and how that affects webmasters – some sites are already on the MFI, others may not be on for a long, long time. It’s all about readiness.

Max Prin made a fab mobile readiness tool that was recommended.

It’s easy for Google to cherry pick case studies and we all know there are downsides to tossing resources into AMP, but I still think it’s worth exploring for most sites.

Google Search Console

All of the new things! Lots coming! For the love of all that is holy give me more beta access, Google!

GSC became a sort of slow lumbering beast with a plate of spaghetti code over the years. Google is fixing that. And adding new things. GSC is going to be a lean and useful beast.

Lots to come, but my fav new feature is a link function to share static/visual reports similar to gdrive sharing.

And big G is working on cleaning up some of that structured data spam we all see in the SERPs.

New & old GSC will run in parallel until data parity is reached

The usual suspects: malware, phishing, UwS, social engineering, etc.

Implementing repeat offender policies that even I think are too nice.

Making sure webmasters know the biggest risks – I’m looking at you shifty ad networks and rando 3rd party plugins.

Google wants to educate webmasters to find, clean up, fix and resolve web security issues with a PWA that Google announced at I/O this year
