Why I think Eddie Diaz is autistic !

(As an autistic individual)

- Struggle with emotional expression:

He often struggles to express emotions, particularly in his relationship with women, (look at the way he acted with Sharon, Ana and Marisol, never communicating clearly, or doing it VERY straightforwardly (-> “you should go”)

He struggle with articulating his feelings, to name his emotions and process them (seemingly alexithymia) and he close off a lot, even with his therapist !

- Literal Thinking:

He tend to interpret language literally, (interactions with his colleagues and fast problem-solving, keeping a cool head under very stressful situations, the way he react to jokes, the way he doesn’t believe and ‘judge’ the way they fear superstitions, only believing what he can prove)

It seems to me like he experiences challenges with understanding figurative language or sarcasm and only believe what is proven, he’s very closed off about the idea of superstition which can be seen in some autistic people who struggle with theses concept

And he can be really straightforward (see the “you should go home Ana” or the “last time he wore that was at his mom’s funeral”) -> stating facts straightforwardly without processing it first and without realizing how stating it like that can be ‘awkward’ to others

- Meltdowns and Coping Mechanisms:

He experiences moments of intense frustration and resorts to unhealthy coping mechanisms (-> fights and destroying his room, hurting himself and other in the process (as in a lot of autistic meltdown and the way a lot of us turn to violent coping mechanisms to fight against sensory overload and the complexity of understanding our own emotions -> resorting to violence)

He parallels experiences of sensory overload and regulation, also his panic attacks and the way he avoid addressing his trauma and feelings by brushing it off and ignoring his own mental health, struggling to understand his own feelings about what he’s experiencing

- Difficulty with Trauma and Normalcy:

His reluctance to address trauma and persistent efforts to appear "normal."

It reflects challenges faced by autistic ppl in processing traumatic experiences and blending in with neurotypical society (force conformism and such)

There’s something about the way he and his father approach emotions, keeping it hidden and close off, that resonates a lot with my own experiences as someone autistic raised by someone who’s (probably) autistic too ‼️

+ the way he quickly connect with Buck exemplifies the ‘neurodivergent link’ : ADHD and autism solidarity is a reality ! Neurodivergent people tend to feel more secure, comfortable and friendly with other neurodivergent individuals!!

He basically just give such a autistic energy, like- I really connect with his struggle and the way he interact with the world around him, but please tell me what YOU think 🫶‼️

To have a better view of this part of him we would need more of his pov, sadly we rarely get it so I’m basing this of what I remember, what I personally see in him, what I connected with :’D

I think what's worse about people doing it to Dream is he's very reluctant to call attention to it himself so people do it for him and it's not just with abuse. They'll do it about him being queer or about having rsd and people need to realise if he wanted to use those things as excuses but he doesn't. Like it's okay to recognise the influence those things have on a person but you can't reduce an issue down to a single factor and remove all the nuance.

i mean yeah he "doesn't use it as an excuse" because 1) he'd be crucified even harder than he already is 2) people already make things up in their head abt him using it as an excuse when he doesn't (like claiming he uses his RSD to get out of things, which was particularly hilarious back in 2021 or whatever when it seemed debatable if he even knew what RSD is) (like this is the same guy who like, during every drodcast around that time, would like list off textbook adhd symptoms and then be like 'yeah idk why i do that tho') but ... that's. like.

like the point i was making isn't just "we shouldn't make excuses using his abuse/queerness/neurodivergence because he doesn't do it" -- in situations where a conversation revolving around smth like queerness or victim advocacy or neurodivergence is relevant, then i don't think these topics should be barred from conversation? as an example, people used to get on people's cases all the time about mcc 14 and how you shouldn't talk about neurodivergence in relation to it while dream was like. clearly and obviously overwhelmed and out of it literally almost until the end of the conversation because of the buildmart rework. just because dream wasn't going "wow, this was an overstimulating environment that clashed terribly with my adhd" out loud on stream doesn't mean people couldn't independently hold conversations about how the game was kind of designed to be stimulation hell, with or without relating that conversation to dream.

obviously people should have more tact when they talk abt abuse specifically, re: dream. i just...don't think that throwing his situation into his face (especially as a weapon to use against other people) is in any way appropriate. people can, have, and will use his experiences against him.

but back to my main point, it's less about "not using these things as excuses because he doesn't" and more about "not using these things as excuses when they're not excuses." like. while i understand that being a survivor, being queer, being nd affects literally everything you do...as you said, there's a difference between understanding the impact something like past abuse can have on your feelings and actions and concluding that your actions and feelings are valid because of your abuse.

like. just as an example. if a DV victim acts erratically while details of their specific situation are being dredged up and said person does things out of character for themselves like shutting down their accounts on social media and refusing to acknowledge an important situation Immediately, even if they themselves don't bring up the specifics of their situation, i think it's fair to say "hey yall are lacking any empathy whatsoever to a survivor of DV who is a victim in this current situation, grow up and piss off."

on the flip side, if someone who's been through abuse is harassing people online and doing things like campaigning for them to lose their platforms and refusing to give any information as to why they believe this is necessary or provide any proof outside of "just trust me, they're bad bro" and cries that they're trying to do the right thing because they're an abuse victim...being an abuse victim does not excuse your current behaviors, many of which are enabling and/or encouraging abusive actions and telling people (such as abusers!) that your corner of the internet is a safe place for them to make baseless accusations (including towards their victims) as long as it's towards someone you don't like. which is, you know, fucked up and kinda abusive. i sympathize with the trauma that these people have been through, but bringing up your victimhood is not immediately relevant to the current situation and also doesn't excuse abusive actions.

why I think the Team Star crew originally got bullied:

Starting with:

Atticus: Neurodivergent (specifically Autism). This guy is so incredibly passionate about his samurai thing, and fashion [screams special interest]. He also keeps his face covered, even though we see it in flashbacks - me thinks this is a sensory thing

Eri: we already know that she was picked on by Carmen out of jealousy, because when Eri started, she was considered pretty and funny and well liked, right? So what could Carmen have used against her? Her build. Eri is tall, and has a strong build - this makes her appear more masculine, and thus makes a target for bullying [in the whole ‘how can she be pretty when she’s so boyish’ kinda way]

Ortega: he’s got flair for fairy types and clearly he’s got a whole aesthetic thing going on. Paired with his ‘I’ll say and do what I want, just try and stop me’ nature, and you better believe this kid was bullied for being ‘gay’.

Mela: She seems like a normal enough kid, and I think she would have suffered a lot from being purposefully left out of things, because of her nature. True to her favoured typing, she has a very aggressive and loud nature. That hasn’t made her mean or rude in any way, she’s just passionate. Unfortunately when people are too passionate about things now a days they get laughed at behind their backs and left out of things [as I write this I’m realising she could also be autistic •_•]

Giacomo: [beware this is the most headcannoned part of this because I latched onto this silly child INSTANTLY] Neurodivergent (specifically ADHD). Out of the lot he defo gives the most ‘bad kid’ vibes, in the sense where he would have gotten below average/barely average grades, would have trouble paying attention in class, brought his music everywhere and got in trouble for it, the whole jam. Unfortunately in a lot of cases, this all translates to undiagnosed ADHD with unmet needs. He would have probably been picked up by some actually Bad Kids at some point, but the once they realised he was actually nice, he would have gotten ditched. Giacomo is a genuinely sweet kid, he’s just not got the support he needs

Why his eyes like that??

Penny: 1) she’s a quiet kid, and as we find out, she’s got a quick tongue. Most likely people just kinda avoided her

2) she’s trans [I adore this headcanon]. Her writing, the whole ‘being who you are’ narrative, she the ‘new girl’ (we find out she left for a year and a bit, only to come back and no one seems to recognise her??), her Pokémon’s are all eeveelutions, a Pokemon based around the idea of adapting; on top of that her main is Sylveon, a Pokemon practically claimed by the trans community, and finally someone pointed out her hoodie, which is baggie and oversized, aka a ‘dysphoria hoodie’

Meguru Bachira!

He also has ADHD you cannot tell me otherwise.

He doesn’t take meds tho, but one time he did and everyone was so weirded out, he was more quiet than usual and wayyy less touchy, everyone in the team thought that he was angry at someone or something, once you explained that he took the adhd meds thats morning everything made sence. You two are the cutest couple! Both of you share the same hyperfixation over football and every time you stim wen you make a goal Bachira stims with you, he listens clearly every time you info dump about your favorite topic

Overstimulation/Sensory overload

Wen Bachira is over stimulated he gets irritated very easily, everything is too much for him, the lights are too bright, everything and everyone is loud, his monster keep yelling at his ear too, don’t try and go talk to him he will 99% tell you to leave him alone or fuck off and don’t touch him either, even the smallest touch make him angry. The best that you can do to help is get him away from the environment to somewhere quiet, give him a sweet, his favorite snack or drink and wrap him up on a heavy blanket if possible, wen he calmed down you can cover him on hugs and kisses.

He notices very quickly wen you are overstimulated, if he’s talking to someone and he notices that everything feels overwhelming to you he will end the conversation right on the spot, if you are okay with touch he will grab your hand and get you to somewhere quiet, will hug tightly if you let him, well teach you breathing exercises that his mother thought him wen he was little Wonce you have calmed down he will ask if you want to back, stay with him a little more or leave whatever the place that you guys are at.

“C’mon I’ll buy you a candy on the way back”

Hyoma Chigiri!

He thinks you are a little annoying at first, but quickly gets used to you and Bachira.

One time you took meds one time without telling him, you were unusually quiet got irritated very quickly and easily, he thought that you were mad at him he asked you all day what’s wrong, even wen you told him that nothing was wrong he wouldn’t believe you, once you told him that you took you meds that morning he told you to never take it again. He loves to hear you info dump about your favorite interest, will let you play with his hair wile you’re at it, he finds so adorable every time you stim wen you see something that you are really passionate about, he mimics you sometimes heh, you two are sooo adorable together you are constantly playing with his hair doesn’t matter what you two are doing.

Overstimulation/Sensory overload

He doesn’t know what’s wrong, suddenly you became unresponsive and really cranky, he will hold your hand all the time and ask you what’s wrong, you finally tell him that you want to go somewhere quiet as fast as possible, he quickly understands and if he is talking to someone he will politely end the conversation and get you somewhere quiet

He asks what he can do ti help, if you don’t respond he will let you pat his hair until you calmed down, once you did he asked what happened, you told him that everything was overwhelming, the lights were too bright, everything was loud, you explained what overstimulation was and he quickly understood.

Yoichi Isagi!

He hangout with Bachira for a wile, he thinks you are adorable!

You and the bee boy have to take turns to hug Isagi, often ends up in fights tho Bachira doesn't really know how to share, if you took meds he will obviously tell the difference everyone at the team can, but he doesn't put that much thought into it.

He loves wen you stim and do it with you too!

Mimicked you so many times that he started to do it do is so adorable, this also counts for verbal stimming. He will listen to you info dumping with a bright smile on his face.

Overstimulation/Sensory overload

Isagi helps Bachira wen he has overstim episodes, so he knows what to do, he will brings noise cancelling headphones with, fidget toys and snacks so that every time that you or Bachira start feeling overwhelmed he will hand them to you.

He looks like a single mother handing their child an ipad.

If they don't' work Isagi will drag you to a calmer place with less people, he will hold your hand and talk with you until you feel better.

"Hey its okay, I'll help you honey"

Itoshi Rin!

Rin thinks you are so fucking annoying.

You are constantly talking on his ear, can't sit still for 1 minute straight, if you take the meds one day he will find your behavior a little strange but will be pleased by it, you finely let him alone and stopped talking for once, wen you told him that you took the meds Rin told you to take it every day cuz you were annoying as fuck.

Wen you accidentally info dump next to him he does his best to ignore you, he finds it so annoying, and wen you stim too

He thinks is ridiculous.

Overstimulation/Sensory overload

Rin thinks you are just being over dramatic.

Until you start crying, but he doesn't ask what's wrong he just stares at you for a couple of times, you crying is so annoying to him wen anyone cry actually.

He will just stand there until you are done with you little show

Seishiro Nagi!

“Where do you get all that energy?”

He doesn’t understand how you and Reo can still keep you eyes open after training, just seeing you run/jump around makes him even more tired but after some time he gets used to your loud and energetic personality, if you took meds he would find it strange that you are acting really quiet but wouldn’t get so bothered by it, wen Reo is not around you’ll have to carry him everywhere.

Nagi tries his best to not sleep wile you are info dumping, he doesn’t think the topic is boring not at all, your voice makes him sleepy but he’ll do his best to listen all that you have to say, will make you hyperfixate on his favorite game, he wants someone that he can play with

He likes to play solo but company never murdered someone

Nagi doesn’t get why you stim wen you are talk about something you like, he finds it cute, till one day he beat one of the hygienist scores in his game without even noticing he was stimming he had “developed” this habit after hanging out with you for a long time

Overstimulation/Sensory overload

He would immediately notice that something is wrong, you were avoiding eye contact, got irritated very fast and would refuse any kind of physical touch even the smallest ones, he would drag you away from the place you two were in to somewhere quiet and with less people

Nagi would let you borrow his earphones, so that you could listen to some music maybe play some games so that you could calm down, he wouldn’t say a word he would just sit next to you till you were fully okay, he would ask if everything was alright and if you wanted to leave and go home, his social battery was dying anyway

Rensuke Kunigami!

He fucking loves you

Kunigami thinks you are so adorable, your energetic and loud personality you’re always really exited to train and practice he just can’t get enough of you!

He would love to hear you talk about your interests all day, wile his eating, training, practicing he wants to hear your voice all day.

If you took meds one day he would think that something was bothering you, he would ask all day if you were okay cuz you seem really quiet, until you told him that you had took the meds and that everything was okay he wouldn’t let you alone,, Kunigami loves wen you stim, is so adorable.

He would get fidget toys for you

He read so many articles and blogs about adhd he finds it really interesting and is looking forward to learning more about it <33

Overstimulation/Sensory overload

Like I said, he has read lots of stuff about adhd in the internet, overstimulation is one of them

Once he notices that everything is overwhelming to you and that you started being unresponsive, he quickly got you to somewhere quiet and calm and made you do some breathing exercises with him, he would get you your favorite snack or a plushie to help you calm down.

Ok right. So I'm thinking in general about DC characters I imagine as autistic. Batfam is easy to start with b/c I"ve read so much, but I'll include other characters as well

Cassandra Cain (Batgirl) - This is kind of a gimme, almost everyone headcanons Cass as autistic b/c she is explicitly textually neurodivergent (but they do not give her a real world diagnosis) and canonically has problems with language.

Damian Wayne (Robin) - another one I've seen a lot of. He has difficulties socializing that COULD be chalked up to being raised as an assassin, but also.... its in a way that's realistic for very many autistic people :P he also generally does not care about gaining the approval of everyone around him, like he's prickly and often unlikable but he's not trying to be liked.

Barbara Gordon (Oracle) - she reads as so autistic to me. Her conflict with Dinah in the beginning of BoP is positioned in the text as right brained vs left brained, which I think doesn't really make a lot of sense neurologically but does work as words the characters are using to describe things - the just think differently. Babs often reads as if she's coming at things from what in her perspective is trying to be analytical and unemotional (tho I do not think she always succeeds in this), and keeps people at arms length socially.

Bruce Wayne - he just reads as kind of autistic to me :P

Talia al Ghul - same :P

Milagro Reyes (Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle's little sister) - she's not a superhero but she reads as very autistic to me. We have scenes where we see her clearly upset by sudden change, she also acts generally very similar to how I did as a little kid. We see her blocking everyone out by watching the TV when a lot of new stuff is going on in the house.

Raven - NTT Raven reads as very autistic to me as well. NGL just like many other characters this can be explained by other factors (She was raised in a cult in another dimension, taught not to emote, and is fighting off the influence of her demonic father) but also. They keep doing characters that are relatable to neurodivergent people like that ;P

Back when I watched YJ, I had very strong opinions about Kaldur'ahm being autistic. I still do, even tho I don't normally count the animated tv shows in my version of DC

I also feel a case could be argued for Diana of Themyscira/Wonder Woman. But I am still marinating this in my brain.

ive been hearing a lot of legitimate criticism of will wood and his fan base from people who like his music, but see him as a pretentious white guy, and his fanbase as an extension of that.

now i havent been in the ww fandom v long, but given the depths i have gone in it i feel at least somewhat comfortable saying im not sure exactly where this impression is coming from.

i see him writing very eclectic erratic and idiosyncratic songs, and people having a variety of interpretations of them, and i can see how that might come off as pretentiousness, especially bc some of his fans really do cross a line in terms of a gatekeepy parasocial attachment to will

but i haven't really seen anyone going THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO INTERPRET THIS SONG YOURE STUPID IF YOU DONT SEE IT or smth to that effect

i acknowledge tho that there is also some legitimate background to this perception, bc what i have seen is:

-will playing characters live and joking w his audience in ways that are often either easily misinterpreted or clearly just someone with extreme mental health issues

-will being maybe mildly annoyed at how his fans often... over analyze his songs and upset when they overstep boundaries, and sometimes expressing that in non ideal ways.

-wills fans being incredibly obsessed with him and his music, which to the outside observer can be annoying i think (but honestly this to me reads more as a bunch of nd ppl w who have hyperfixated/have a special interest related to him)

-the lyrics to wills songs all being very confusing, especially the farther back in his discography you go, and his fans acting like their meanings are obvious on a first glance even when they arent (which is all the time)

-will pulling references from sources that can be seen as pretentious and off putting, esp when coming from a white guy (taoism, it's always sunny, modern psychology, 'classic' films, name dropping authors of philosophy, etc.)

-wills stances often being contrarian and often (especially on first glance) seemingly being that way purely for the sake of being contrarian

-will explaining his stances in fancy and grandiloquent language (a note on this one in particular: i think of this as not really a sign of being pretentious, potentially bc of my own struggles w it. i often accidentally use a bunch of complicated words and descriptions that wouldn't make sense to me if i was the one hearing them, not because im trying to be exclusionary or come off as ✨intelligent✨, but bc it was explained to me in those terms and i went through the process of studying it in that terminology and being told i had to use that terminology, and now im too dumb to translate what im thinking back into language that's actually comprehensible)

but i feel that a lot of these things are really overstated in how often they happen. by and large, i think a lot of this response is a misreading of the facts that his fanbase is really passionate to a somewhat obsessive degree, will is very passionate about the things he likes and the things he believes in, and both will and the majority of his fan base are pretty mentally unstable and/or neurodivergent.

from what ive seen, will isn't trying to be pretentious in any way and is legitimately just expressing himself. his fanbase despite their occasional issues are ultimately pretty much just very passionate people. and also he does not hate them! to quote the man himself

"guys, i don't hate you! stop telling people i hate you! stop doing that; i like you people! 99.999 percent of you are really good, and 99.999 percent of the people who piss me off are just going through it! i don't know where people are getting this idea the whole like 'will wood hates his fandom' yeah i know i said i hate you all in that song but... you know, it's a song! i like you guys."

if you have counter info/arguments though id love to see them. im always looking for new perspectives, and as i said ive *just* started listening to will wood and looking into his lore. i couldve totally missed smth and id love to hear it if i have.

So, I have a lot of Sunfyre headcanons here, but the gist of it is that Sunfyre is incredibly vain because he knows he's The Hot Girl, but also incredibly affectionate, not just with Aegon (tho it is primarily with him due to their bond) but also with Aegon's family and even their dragons. He's incredibly light hearted, and though a preener to the absolute extreme, also a playful boy at heart.

I think of Dreamfyre as a bit of an "odd one out" type of dragon, especially given that her known riders are people who're seen as "divergent" by society, Rhaena being our lesbian babe and Helaena being coded as neurodivergent herself. She's older, so she knows what she likes and what she doesn't like, and she likes to keep to herself primarily and do her own thing. I think out of all of them, she adores flying, and there's an element of playfulness to her, since I think she's Sunfyre's mother, and I think she too is extraordinarily loving, just less in a show off way than Sunfyre. She's also more exclusive in her affection, deeply attached to Helaena and less willing to share some of that than the way Sunfyre is with the rest of the Greens.

Vhagar, as everyone has memed, and to which I agree, is dragon meemaw. She's everyone's extremely cranky grandma, and she's able to keep young whippersnappers in line with just a look. I also think Vhagar's a bit jaded, not by any of the human deaths she's seen necessarily (though I think Laena's clearly affected her, as she mourned) but by what happened to Meraxes. Meraxes is written as having been larger than Vhagar, and there's no other information on when she was born, so I think Meraxes was older, and likely something of an older sister, insofar as dragons feel things about siblings. So Meraxes having been shot down, combined with Visenya's own deep cavernous grief over Rhaenys (aaaaaaaahhhhhh) likely hardened her. I also think that, as Vhagar grew older, she grew fond of having young riders, of having people to take care of, given that Laena claimed her at age twelve and Aemond at age ten, and she's very possessive, views the creatures she loves as her's and will defend them ferociously and with her own life if necessary. And she's a grudging grandmaternal presence to the littler dragons, even if she thinks Sunfyre is a drama queen.

Tessarion, like, her rider, is the baby. She's also not nearly as vain as Sunfyre, despite still being gorgeous, and I actually think she's a bit shy, and probably needs to be coaxed out of her shell by Daeron and Sunfyre more than any other dragon. Tessarion is also incredibly physically affectionate (while Sunfyre adores Aegon and does love his other family, he's not necessarily very physical about it), but Tessarion is constantly curling up around Daeron and butting her head against his. When she was small enough to be held she was insufferable about it.

So I know Attorney Woo had both the exponential absurdness of soap operas where we go from 0 to 100 real quick with regards to how the court cases mix with personal life, and the cheesiness of a happy ending despite it all, but there were quotes or moments in this show that quite inspired neurodivergent people, especially girls and women. Especially the part when Young-Woo said her life is unusual and peculiar, but still valuable and beautiful. Yes it is cheesy and episode title drop but it is also important to hear. Besides we also have hurting male characters like her father and male lead, and the fact that the romance didn't have any of the red flags and borderline (if not outright) sexual harassment we see in other stories, and was actually healthy is a win. The issue of consent was brought up throughout the show too, and while Extraordinary Attorney Woo feels preachy or in your face at times (similarly to how it is quite educative when it comes to autism), it is a good thing we are moving towards a positive direction when it comes to portraying healthy relationships on screen.

There are things I really liked about Woo as an autistic woman, or in general as a woman in the workforce. For example, the fact she is plain and dresses for comfort; that is something positive that we don't often see because we always assume women should prioritize looks over comfort, and they must be beautiful before they are smart. I also like that she wasn't forced into the nurturing role, and in fact was a woman who loved her job, and who got a love interest through her skills and abilities, and not looks. (What I mean is, the myth persists that women are attracted to competence in men, while men are attracted to looks only in women. So while the male lead finds Woo cute, he first notices her for the unusual way she approaches cases and her intellect, and in fact when confessing he talks a lot about how her ability and enthusiasm around law makes her shine in his eyes.) I understand in Korean cultures Woo's loudness and mannerisms stand out more, because the men too are quite composed, but in a Western context some of the things Woo does, like talk out of turn are things we forgive in men and punish in women, so Woo standing out and not being punished for that is a good thing to see. Now there are a few things for which this drama could have gone the extra mile: Woo is too neat, and in fact all the actors clearly wear makeup--especially for an autistic woman, but women in general, we need to get to a stage where women can show their face on-screen without makeup. The fact that Woo, while we can't blame her for her good looks, and in fact autism or lack of has nothing to do with genetics and how attractive a face is, is in fact cute or still attractive presentation-wise, that is to say, makeup, no blemishes, on-point hair, shows we still have miles to go when it comes to female representation on-screen, but it is a first step. I liked that Woo was more weird than cute, and we should keep it that way, and allow women, neurodivergent or otherwise, to keep being weirder on-screen.

Overall, some things were cliche, bc such is the format of a drama, but within those constraints, Extraordinary Attorney Woo did some very interesting and original things, and the characters are quite interesting, and in the end, there is nothing wrong with a feel-good drama: showing autistic people that they deserve happiness is a good thing. Plus there is also nothing bad with instilling some morality and cooperation into how people should treat colleagues, and others at large, and that in fact we should all try to be fundamentally good, open-minded tho those around us, and learn from our mistakes, and that redemption is possible even if painful.

(I also liked some of the magical realism aspects, such as the whale scenes or the rotating doors as a dance. Plus the fact that so many women are also formed and helped Woo grow is important, and it is great to see more women in the workforce, along with their diverse worldviews and opinions and choices, even if those choices are not what we might agree with. But that range, and its portrayal, is important for women on screen!)

(now there's an argument for why an actress who was actually autistic wasn't chosen to portray Woo, but I won't get into it. as someone on the spectrum tho, I didn't find the portrayal of Woo in-bad-faith or exploitative, and I did enjoy her character. that is my personal opinion tho, and I can't tell others to think like me. I think it is a step in the right direction, as we get these roles more acceptable and then hopefully soon we'll see actual neurodivergent people on screen playing such characters.)

I would deadass mean a lot to me if it was made canon that Willy, Ron and Scary all have aspd/npd/autisim. Like the(largely accidental)rep would be so great in my opinion.

I fully believe Ron also has npd but unlike Willy he had somewhat of a support system through his mother and later the dads.

Scary fundamentally struggles with empathy and connecting emotionally with others. As much as the "lol I'm an angsty teen girl who's a mean loser" is like a joke, its sorta played too over the top to not be indicative of something else here.

Even as a autistic child I knew there was something "wrong" about me. I felt out of step with reality and often that no one actually could understand me.

Scary is constantly trying to connect and then failing in a way that I actually think is really similar to Willy.

I always interpreted the Fishing Scene as Willy legitimately being like "uhhg ok what do dads do?? They take their sons fishing????" Willy was very loosely trying to be a "person" and the second it went wrong he gave up immediately and just went back to the solution that's worked for him since he was a kid dealing with annoyance/harm.

Repeatedly there are these moments where Scary, very awkwardly is attempting to connect/mask and be a part of the group and works for like 10 seconds and then she can't keep the jig up and goes back to her normal/natural behaviors. Specifically I think the DnD game is a good example of this for her. Its really common for people like us to have this tbh sorta irrational belief that we know the "right way to have fun". Travis McElroy actually talked about how his npd would often make him genuinely frustrated at his family during Graduation because they weren't playing it right and he would have to stop, think, and remember " oh I'm not the ultimate authority for fun and other ppl can play however they want"(did he actually do that? No, but still he's trying I guess)

When I was a kid I'd get mad at my brother for adding toy cars to our fantasy games cuz cars don't belong in dragons and princess political dramas and my mom would literally tell a 6 year old me "u know this is why no one plays with u at school right?" Absolutely devastating but she was right lol.

Scary being controlling and weird and saying no constantly during her game is such peak npd/autistic behavior. She thinks that her way is the "correct" and "fun" way to play and gets frustrated when they won't play right. And the worse part is that she's very clearly trying so hard here. This is uncomfortable and difficult for her to be vulnerable and open like this. But she can't seem to do it right and the end result is everyone playing without her. Once again proving in her mind that No One Understands her and that she's Alone.

Scary can't mask or connect in her own neurodivergent way and she's literally being left out. Her sense of empathy and right/wrong is slightly off from everyone else's and more often then not Link or Normal's reaction to that is to call her bad or just get(rightfully)angry at her for not being able to understand something that is literally not able to come to her naturally like everyone else.

Or maybe its just really funny for Scary to be a over the top emo teen and for Ron to be unhinged lunatic who will say the most hurtful and deranged shit of a whim. Lol its sorta difficult to apply this deep analysis cuz how much of this is Beth genuinely giving us character information and how much is it "oh wouldn't it be funny if I said who's ur daddy tho" and I'm supposed to just laugh and not go on a iasip style conspiracy on Ron's brain

🐝🐝 It's been a while since I made this blog and I haven't actually written anything, even tho that's its purpose.

So instead of doing research on stuff for my Hazbin Hotel OC, let's start building a story.

First is the magic system:

Seeing as I am a bee an animal lover, let's have it revolve around that.

I've had the idea of an mha oc who can manipulate their dna, which they mostly use to copy animalistic traits, so let's take that and give it a name - Mimics.

Mimics are people who are capable of replacing parts of themselves with a human-sized version of a body part from a specific animal. If you don't have that body-part you still have to get rid of something.

An example could be... Let's say there's a mantis-shrimp mimic. Now obviously no bee no human owns a claw, so to have its "ballers" you need to still get rid of something, like a leg. This is great for combat if you're going for a kick: the added momentum of your leg + the release of the "latch muscle" + the now human size of it, even without cavitation it'd still be incredibly strong. Not sure how strong but I'm guessing "bone-breaking" strong. (Not to mention you could use it to jump really high.)

Next let's give an alternative, like another school of magic.

What if you could control the animals instead. They can be called - Tamers.

Tamers are people who can very clearly control animals. But like mimics, it's a specific animal. But they still need something that can make them useful...

Humans...

Humans are animals too, so what if we had a Human tamer as an antagonist.

Obviously Mimics are seen as stronger, so they might be people who are praise, while the Tamers are more often than not shunned, they main uses are being farmers and pest/animal control.

More on that another time.

I think it'd be less mind-control and more... persuasion. You're capable of speaking to that species, and yes you are naturally more persuasive, but you need to practice to get better. Maybe at some point you could be able to influence their thoughts and commonsense, make them think it's their own thoughts when really you're responsible for that. idk.

Now let's figure out how people get these powers.

As I've (hopefully) stated before, not everyone is a Mimic/Tamer. So it'd be a good idea to think of how people can become one.

Obviously there has to be a reason as to why not everyone is one.

Maybe it's like X-men and only some people are mutants... no

Maybe it's only neurodivergent people... I'll save that for another time, maybe.

You know how the greek gods have symbols?

And what about clerics? Their power is bestowed upon them by the divine.

What if it's like that? Somehow interacting with the symbol of the animal gives you either Mimicry or Tamer-ry. Like bathing in honey like it's the river styx. not sure if you'd survive, but you'd def need a bath after.

And it'd make sense how the antagonist is the only human tamer ever, coz no one knows what the symbol of humans are.

hmmmm, but then I'd have to come up with the symbol of so many things.

Bees could be honey sure.

Spiders might be webs

But what about bats?

Wolves?

Prey Mantis'?

Frogs?

Flies?

Too much work.

Maybe it works like chosen ones.

A god of Bees chooses... John Doe to represent the species, and by doing so, their descendants carry that power.

This could mean something about the society as well, being far more religious focused.

Maybe it used to be considered wrong for two chosen people to wed if they were not chosen by the same species?

Or perhaps if the descendant was born a Tamer, they couldn't be heir, and were used as a political puppet.

Ah yes, the two genders: Mimics and Tamers.

And what would happen when two different chosen ones wed? Would their children have one or both animals? maybe it'd make a hybrid?

And the chosen can be put in positions of higher power, like priests or nobles or kings.

A society built on power from the gods.

I’m not in the snc fandom by any means and I have no plan to do so but being just a causal fan of them, I have seen the way their fans act towards them, especially Colby. It always leaves a horrible taste in my mouth.

I sincerely wish these guys would start setting more boundaries with their fandom. There are sometimes where I see replies to their tweets or just looking up their users on twitter because I’m a nosy rosey sometimes and the things some of their fans say to them, especially Colby is just horrendous and down right yucky. It seems to be getting worse in my end too. The way some of their fans treat Colby likes he’s stupid, slow or like a child is just so gross. He’s a human being. It’s one thing to make a joke, but it’s another thing to treat him like he was born literally yesterday. It sometimes feels like infantalazation. Like this is a huge problem and I just wish that Colby would put his foot down about it. Hell, when everytime there’s a girl involved in his life everything goes haywire towards him. I just feel so bad for him at this point. if I had fans and they were pulling stuff like this, I wound definitely say something, and start muting/ blocking people if it started getting too much. Maybe Colby hates confrontation which I can totally understand. Maybe he hates drama as well. But if his fans keep getting away with basically being overbearing and weird, they’re never gonna treat him like a human.

I also have a hunch that he might be neurodivergent and has anxiety. I see a lot of myself through him. He does a lot of things I do. But I don’t wanna diagnose him because I personally don’t know him like that. I just hope he has a good head on his shoulders when it comes to this type of stuff. and I also just hope one day some of his fans grow up and stop treating him like he’s a dummy when he’s a very intelligent person. It drives me nuts when people do that to him. He clearly is very smart and very empathetic. A bright soul who deserves so much better. 🩷

and i completely agree with you about the treatment of colby. it's a weird mix of both treating him like a sex doll and treating him like a baby, which makes both behaviors all the more gross.

like i'll be honest, i don't love all the decisions he makes, and i have talked about that on here countless times. however, i don't actively tell him on social media how to live his life (aka i don't @ him on twitter when he does something that annoys me like a lot of other fans do). and at the end of the day i accept whatever he wants to do with his life. me complaining on here about some of the questionable ppl he has in his life isn't even half as bad as what i've seen on twitter, especially when it comes to some of the girls he occasionally is seen with.

over the years it's gotten worse, and i'm not sure for what reason. it feels like the fans started out on the right foot. they care about colby and don't want to see him get hurt. and i get that, i feel the same way. but at the same time, he's an adult. and in life you're gonna make some dumb decisions, and be friends with dumb ppl that you shouldn't have been. and that's your choice. and that's your mistake to make.

i think part of it is a lot of fans think they are owed a part of colby's life and having a say in it. maybe bc they've put time, effort, and money into being a fan, maybe it's bc they feel like they are friends with him and thus think they can say shit that a friend would say even tho they are a complete stranger to him. and while i can understand somewhat why someone would feel that way briefly, it doesn't change the fact it's not true. you aren't owed anything just bc you've been here a long time or bc you buy merch. so what. you aren't special in either one of those regards.

and when it comes to colby and his dating life… oh boy, that's where most of the drama lies. again, a lot of it comes from fans not wanting him to date a questionable girl. understandable. i get that protectiveness. however it has become very apparent that NO GIRL is good enough for him. fill in the blank on whatever reason, it doesn't matter. there is not a single girl that exists that everyone in the fandom can agree on. and that just shows that a lot of the concern comes from both jealousy and, if we're being completely honest, misogyny.

certain fans are jealous they will never get a chance to be with him, no matter how many y/n insert fanfics they read. and no girl is good enough bc nine times out of ten the reason is bc of something sexist like she's a slut or a gold digger or isn't pretty enough or is too pretty or isn't as good as other girls.

my favorite phrase, highkey, is when a girl is seen with colby, ppl start hating on her and then when asked why someone doesn't like her they respond with "idk she just gives me a bad vibe." lmao happens like clockwork.

all of this is to say that a lot of fans, while they love colby, don't respect him. they don't trust him to make his own decisions bc in their minds, he can't make the "right" ones. and thus needs to smothered into making the right one. and if he doesn't do that, then he deserves to be bitched at for eternity.

tbh i'm surprised colby tolerates half the fanbase at this point. if the fandom isn't yelling at him for breathing wrong, they're making fun of him. and while it's fine to be playful and banter with him, there's a difference between a one off comment and constantly picking at everything he does down to whether or not he has facial hair. like… why are we talking about his body hair? yall are weird for that one.

if i was colby, i wouldn't have fans anymore. bc i would blocking ppl left right and center. idc that you supported me for a long time, if you're mean to me, you're gone. and i ain't gonna listen to (usually) a child yell at me for fucking a random girl (or maybe not even fucking a random girl). that's why last year i wanted him to go chaos mode. i wanted him to fuck every and any girl that said yes strictly so fans would come to the realization that YOU DON'T CONTROL HIM.

get over it or gtfo. it's really that simple.

and as for whether or not he's neurodivergent, that's obviously something he would have to explore himself. i personally have always thought he might secretly have depression and definitely anxiety since he's talked about that part himself. there's a lot of things he has done in the past that make me think there might be something under the surface and reminds me a lot back when i was in denial of what was going on mentally. and there are times he gets into funks, and you can just see the light drain out of him for a bit. but in the end, that's for him to explore and seek help for if he so chooses and feels the need to. i would hope if he truly did ever feel bad he would ask for help.

he's a very strong person and has such a love for life. i just hope he lives it to the fullest. i truly just want to see him happy.

There are more TWs at the start of this book. R.M. is really good about listing all possible TW's, but that means the list is rather long. Please read it and pay attention to it.

Before I start this, I do want to say that I received an ARC (advanced reader copy) of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Another thing I would like to start off with. I know I've said it before, but I really think that some stories are not meant for certain people even if you love other stories by the same author. This series is a great example of that. I read book one (Drag Me Up) and Did Not Like It. That is okay! I also ended up reading just a few chapters each of books 2 (Keep Me Close) and 3 (Let Me In) before DNF'ing them. They were not stories for me.

HOWEVER, I ended up LOVING this book!

So let's get into it!

I actually do have a few things I didn't like here that brought my rating down to a 4.5 from a 5 star, so let's get those out of the way first:

The weird hyphen thing I mentioned with Drag Me Up is still present. It is not as common, but there were a few moments where I was drawn out of the atmosphere of the book because of the forced cadence

RM really loves ending these books with a sex scene. He really does. Which, in itself, isn't a bad thing but like the final chapters of both Drag Me Up and Love Me Now are sad or somber in tone. I just, I don't think it's appropriate for then to be going at it during these scenes (especially LMN, seeing as Patroclus is literally recovering from an autistic meltdown)

The therapy talk! OMG the therapy talk returns. Again, it's not as present or common as in Drag Me Up, but like I didn't come here for two very clearly unhinged characters to be teaching me morals about rage, y'know? (this book was tolerable, book 1 was not)

All of the trans characters (that we see the genitalia of) have all had bottom surgery. This isn't a bad thing, I just would have loved to see a character that didn't "fully" medically transition (I talked more on this in the review for DMU) like Sisyphus

Speaking of Sisyphus, RM made me like Sisyphus?? that should automatically dump this down to a 2 star read honestly I am Not A Fan of him in mythology. Book Sisyphus can stay tho. I like him.

But that's really all the qualms I had with the book! So let's talk about what I loved:

GAY AUTISTIC TRANS PATROCLUS FTW I love him so very much. A lot of me reading this book was just screaming about Patroclus and how much I love him omgggg

I also love that the contents of the prior books are summed up at the start of this book. Like, I am glad that I read Drag Me Up so that I have an idea of the world, but books 2 and 3 didn't feel like a necessity for me while reading this one.

I genuinely love the dynamic between Achilles and Patroclus. When I tell you I SCREAMED at my kindle every single time the two denied feelings for each other OMG. And then, AND THEN Achilles has the GALL to be soft and loving and adorable and accommodating to Patroclus' autism??? I need me a man like Achilles fr

When I tell you I screamed at the fact that Achilles knows Patroclus is sensitive to sound and he does everything in his power to accommodate that, INCLUDING covering his ears before he has to raise his voice?? I swooned omg

Speaking of Patroclus' autism, the way his autistic rage is portrayed. This is the closest I have come to seeing myself on page. The way that Patroclus processes everything is through the lens of rage, even if he seems calm and collected on the outside. I love that, like genuinely. This book does not shy away from showing the ugly side of neurodivergency. We need more of that in the world, we aren't all uwu pretty boys.

SPEAKING OF Achilles does not infantilize Patroclus AT ALL, not even when he's going through a meltdown! That's HUGE!! Especially for a love interest!! I love it sososo much!

There are honestly so many things I love about this book, a lot of the issues I had with the first book were resolved by the time this book came around. Like, the pacing was great, the characters were fleshed out, they were more than just their sex scenes, over all the vibes were just more put together.

I am so very glad I had the chance to read this book. I will be purchasing a physical copy of it and putting it on my recommendation shelf.

THE SONG? idk why im talkin ab it lik a human but. word from miss aurora:

i think cure 4 me can also b related back 2 auroras neurodivergence, which she has talkd ab before. she mentioned bein made fun of @ school 4 bein autistic (altho i don think she was ever diagnosed w it) n also bein put on adhd medication in da past - pretty sure dats her official diagnosis. but yeah. honesly, jus from watchin the way she carries herself n moves n talks in interviews & lives, she was always so clearly different & felt closer than other artists 2 me. like nawt in a 'wow shes so weird' way like sum ppl say. idk theres an inherent sense of belongin w dat person cuz shes so much like us too. man i started cryin but anyway i luv her lots she really mean lots 2 me.
