OH I LOVE THIS QUESTION THANK YOU SO MUCH 💖
I’m sure I’ll forget a lot of things and smack my own forehead in shame afterwards, but this is what comes to mind right away:
Literature:
Anything ever written by Victor Hugo is a masterpiece. This dude was a terrible human being, but he sure knew how to write, and he contributed to major changes in the social conscience of his contemporaries on many important topics (including but not limited to the death penalty and child labour). To give you a taste, here is my favourite poem ever, which he wrote, because of course he did.
My favourite piece of literature across all categories, though, is and forever will be Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand — the story of a man who convinced himself his unusually long nose makes him monstruous. The concept sounds so silly, I know, but this play is a masterpiece and a wonderful love letter to the French language.
Which brings me to my favourite comic series: De Cape et de Crocs by Alain Ayroles and Jean-Luc Masbou! Basically a twelve-volume-long fix-it fic, disguised as a tribute to French literature. Also, a beautiful bromance.
Visual arts:
Basically everyone in France can quote at least one line from Kaamelott, a comedic (?) series derived from the Arthurian legend. It is so well researched and hilarious — until it isn’t.
I’m sure there’s like, a very obvious movie choice that will come back to me in a minute, but I was raised on Disney and Scooby-Doo, so these are clogging my brain at the moment. Just give it time.
When I was very young, I would watch TV at my grandparents’ and enjoy Les Hydronautes, an animated series about an extraterrestrial explorer documenting the Earth’s marine wildlife in an effort to learn how to better protect her own planet (Aka There Are Many Benefits To Being A Marine Biologist: The Series), as well as C’est pas sorcier, a series of very fun documentaries on a plethora of subjects, from lavender farming to volcanic eruptions.
Obviously, Miraculous gets a place on the list too! 🐞🐈‍⬛
EDIT BECAUSE I FORGOT: Fantomette the animated series! This show is single-handedly responsible for my taste for smart women with amazing hair who ride motorbikes and kick ass. It even had Egytpology as a key part of the plot.
Music:
For me Formidable by Charles Aznavour is a classic, a very cute song, and a great place to start if you want to learn French!
A few other favourites include Fanny Ardant et moi by Vincent Delerm, Le Dîner by Bénabar (extremely funny to listen to while thinking about the Diamonds’ Dance) and J’ai cherché by Amir (This one is… Borderline when it comes to grammar, but cute enough that I grin and bear it. Also, it got us an honourable ranking at the Eurovision a while back, which is rare enough to be celebrated).
ALSO. I complain too much about bad translations and poor writing (see previous bullet point) not to show you kids how it’s done with Je vole from Aladdin (a genius play on words which delves into the two significations of the verb “voler”: to fly or to steal).
Video games:
Long ago, before I discovered the wonderful world of Nintendo, I would wait patiently every month for the new issue of Toboclic. This game had everything: cute animal mascots, stories, mini-games, arts-and-crafts suggestions, catchy songs, interactive documentaries… I’m sure my parents still have the CDs somewhere, but they probably don’t run anymore, which is a shame. I miss my friends.

My whole renewed dive into trying to save all the John Oliver files I can get my hands on, which within a week escalated to me buying a new 1TB hard drive just to see how big a John Oliver folder I can make, started when it was noticed that this video was taken off YouTube:
I was glad I’d saved a copy of it, because I don’t trust anything to stay anywhere on the internet, if there’s something I like I immediately put it on my hard drive so it can’t disappear. I'm making this post mainly for anyone else who might not have saved this before YouTube took it down, here's where you can download it. Because no one should be denied the really fucking weird 25 minutes with baby comedians from 1997.
A few years ago I read this quote from Richard Ayoade, which I annoyingly can't find now, where he said he doesn't like this documentary, that they were just students and obviously didn't know what they were doing and some film people came in and said they wouldn't look bad in it but of course they do look bad. It was something like that, I can't find the exact quote. But I remember finding it odd, because surely no one is judging these people's actual comedic skill based on a few clips from a 25-minute video of when they were students. People just share it because it's funny to adorable little baby versions of the comedians who are famous now. Obviously they weren't doing high-quality comedy, they were like 19, no one cares.
Since then, I have learned that this is not quite true, and Richard Ayoade did, in fact, have reason to object to his weird student sketches being out there. Because apparently, some people are judging their comedic skill based on the time in 1997 when he and John Oliver did a weird sketch on a fence. My deep rabbit hole dives of about 18 months ago led me through a lot of old comedy message board threads, including one from 2006 of people absolutely ripping that video apart as a sign that comedy is well past its peak and this newfangled crop of comedians are all shit and the once-great institution of Cambridge Footlights has fallen. By 2006.
I normally don't link to things things directly from a message board on here, seems too close to that horrible thing where you take screenshots from one social media and post it on a different social media to make fun of it (so instead, I just occasionally see something I disagree with on a message board, and then write a post on here refuting it without posting the original context, to people who don't know what I'm talking about), but it feels more acceptable if it was from 2006, I think. It's not like the person who posted that in 2006 is likely to still be hanging around Britcom social media seeing who's quoting them. So I think... I think I need to quote just a little bit of it, because there was this one really long aggressive rant from this one 2006 post that was the funniest fucking thing (I won't like but it's not hard to find on Google):
I mean, I can't really communicate how bad it was, to be honest. But it was just the fact that you saw the two cunts writing the thing, sitting in a daylight-filled bar, giggling into their lager. You got the picture? Ugh. And John Oliver, who is the spitting image of David Baddiel (intentionally of course), is there with his pencil and notepad suggesting the lines with a grandiose smugness that made me really ill, and his mate (the blandest man ever) is there, with his jumper and his shoes, salivating over the comic genius he sees before him. Cunt, cunt, CUNT! They also have three girl-ones with them, all of whom have no talent whatsoever. You see one of them auditioning, where she has to do some improv, and she's shit... but the president (who looks like a fifteen year-old John Lloyd) can be heard wheezily guffawing at everything she says. And this serves only to make her improv even worse. And John Oliver is the worst. Or the one that got to me the most. With his hair.
That is, in case anyone's wondering, why my current Tumblr bio ends with the line: "John Oliver is the worst. Or the one that got to me the most. With his hair." It's a quote from a guy in 2006 who was really really mad about a 25-minute Footlights documentary.
So I would like to state, for the record, that by sharing this video, I am not endorsing the actual quality of the comedy in the few little sketches we see. I am also not endorsing the class system, the hold that a few elite institutions have over entire industries, Richard Ayoade's views on transgender people, or trivia in pubs. I just think they're adorable baby comedians as well as an interesting snapshot of comedy history. I'm pretty sure that's all it's supposed to be.
I am also not endorsing the class-based dominance of elite institutions when I say I still want that sitcom between two student comedians, Kim Tey and Wark Atson, who have to band together to get through their year-long university comedy play while hiding from everyone but each other their respective secrets of not really being a student there, and not really being Welsh. Madcap farcical hi-jinks ensue. People would watch it. I do not endorse the class-based dominance of elite institutions but I do quite enjoy Footlights stories, so I'm glad they made a really weird documentary with some of them. Also when I go to the UK this summer I've booked off one entire day to take the train to Cambridge and run around feeling like I'm in Harry Potter (Disclaimer: I also do not endorse JK Rowling's views on trans people, or at this point, on most things. Why can't we have nice things?).

And that probably the only time you'll hear someone compare John Oliver to John Robins (very different comedians, really), especially on a post that started out just being a way to share a video that's been taken off YouTube. Live action Yu Yu Hakusho liveblog: ep 1
This is so much fun. Nostalgia time. 13 year old me is LIVING
Warning for like whole ep 1 spoilers and all
Yusuke and Botan look great which I already knew going in from the gifset that informed me this show exists lol, but it's delightful, bc the characters in this show aren't necessarily the easiest to translate to live action
Botan is adorable. Her hair is adorable. And I'm delighted to see that Yusuke's hair is the Correct amount of Poufy
Plot twist: Kuwabara hot. He looks great actually. Translated nonliterally compared to Yusuke but v well. The actor is selling me on it too, fun casting
Kuwabara was always hard for me to watch in the original bc he set off my vicarious embarrassment soo hard. Glad they're less committed to making him the constant source of painful comedic relief here lol
KOENMA PACIFIER REVEAL I LOVE IT
Laughed out loud for real tbh
Idk if I'm a little disappointed he's not a baby but like live action would make that ridic hard to do in a lot of ways so I don't blame them at all. He's in his adult form which makes sense. Still damn glad they kept the pacifier it is RUINING his dignity and I love it
I also don't blame them for cutting the flying oar effects. A lil sad but the initial transition to Reikai looked great so they're forgiven
Yusuke. "No thanks." I knew it was coming and the delivery still made me laugh out loud. Just dropped it in there. Yusuke I love you please see a therapist
Fight scenes are v creative and p epic
Seriously they do a really good job of making Yusuke's fighting style as a human believable, fun to watch, and effective. He rly does come off as just kind of a natural fighting genius (with practice ofc)
Sakyo in ep 1? Weird but I'm not opposed. The wavy hair is kinda freaking me out though ngl. Smoothness was just such his THING in the show it's distracting
Really liked Yusuke's mom's introduction (not that it was flattering to her as a character) but I wish they'd done more with her in the rest of the ep. Her power hug at the end is great tho
Show's slowing down a bit but it's fine I'm still having fun, the nostalgia power will get me through basically whatever

That said I keep watching the motion of him and the other demons in this ep and thinking about Hayao Miyazaki said about the disgusting cruelty of using effects technology to make the scary scary inhuman monsters just fucking. look and move like disabled ppl
Seriously I keep seeing flashes of the appearance and movements of people I know with developmental disabilities (particularly this one guy I know with cerebral palsy but also I've worked in care work for disabled adults and just kind of a lot of people in general) and. I hate this. Especially as a person who DOES have a (nonvisible) developmental disability myself. This is such a rising trend in horror/sff/fantasy tv/movies/video games and I hate everything about it. Hayao Miyazaki was right this kind of attitude and shit really is "an insult to life itself"

DEMON CREW CAMEO AT THE END
Kurama looks pretty good. Goki actually looks wayyyy better than he did in the anime imho, which I did not see coming.
Effects on Kurama and Hiei's fighting looks surprisingly great. They pulled off the rose whip way better than I thought they would, and did some great wirework with Hiei's speed and fighting style
That said....Hiei...oof. That hair was always gonna be a Challenge but I think their ambition here did uh. not play off rip. Hopefully it'll look better later on

The story is beautiful, the relationships are realistic and beautiful, the L O R E. A simple mistake made the Lich inevitable in ALL UNIVERSES, MEANING NO ONE IS SAFE FROM HIM. Not to mention that he has his own universe where he successfully wiped out all existence, except for BMO. BUT EVEN THEN BMO ENDED UP DYING ANYWAY.
Simon and Betty’s relationship is devastating but beautiful and the endless love they still share for each other gets me in the feels EVERY TIME.
I’m so excited for season 2 coming out next year. The ability to be normal is OVER.
Favorites are Simon, Betty, Fionna, and Jake. I love them to bits.
HLVRAI
First hyperfixation of 2020 and it came back. This whole series is comedy gold. The characters rub off each other and the memes that came from this. “HELLO GORDON!!!” is permanently infused into my brain.
Plus this and TF2 made me meet one of my long time online friends/online brother so I owe it a great deal. Wayne is a comedic genius, you guys. This series had me pausing the videos because I kept laughing too hard.
No joke, y’all like need to watch it. All acts and parts are on YouTube, watch it now. Do it, no balls. You won’t.
Legit all of the characters are my favorite but Benrey has a special place in my heart.
Five Nights at Freddy’s
I want you to ask my friends about which movie this year I was most hyped for and they will tell you because I literally did not shut up about the FNAF movie.
FNAF has been my longest hyperfixation, ever since it came out. My family will tell you which game I love because I do NOT shut up about this franchise. Hell when the first trailer for the movie dropped, my whole family asked me when I was gonna watch the movie because they knew DAMN WELL that it didn’t matter how it was gonna happen, I was going to watch that movie. And I did on opening day!
FNAF is so important to me, you guys have like no idea….. this franchise has helped me so much, and I fucking LOVE IT SO MUCH YOU GUYS OMG!!!!!!

God, I remember is so very clearly being it got deleted. Taryn had posted a photo of you and your new girlfriend in Malibu, where we used to spend a good amount of your offseason at. It helped with me being a freelance writer, so following you after college to Calgary was not hard, as well as to wherever your offseason took you. But I remember seeing the place where we got out ice cream, each time. Never straying from tradition. Does she know? Does she know we made out in your convertable near that ice cream shop, that had a beach right underneath? Your sibilings and your parents know, we had brought them there many a times. Then I saw another photo of the coffee shop, we frequented. It was Brady that posted a short video, scanning you guys. She must feel pretty special huh? That you supposedly know where all the 'cool' spots are? Like it wasn't me who didn't scour the internet and talked to some locals about places to visit and try. I was the one matthew, not you. So I hope she isn't fooled.
Then I lurked one day, to her instagram after Taryn posted a photo of your new girlfriend and her. I looked at her most recent of you two in Malibu, and saw the caption that was a direct line from me. Verbatum. You were never good at one liner's, so I hope she doesn't seriously think you are a comedic genius or anything. That would be comical.
Do you get déjà vu when she's with you?
Do you think about me when you're there with her? Do you get flashbacks of me when you go to the beach? The same coffee shops? Restaurants? That was our home away from home, at one point and I'd be stupid to not believe you don't think about me everytime you go in one of those places. That's exactly what happens to me when I go on with my day. I moved to Malibu when we broke up, because I fell in love with the community. I enjoyed the peace, how people stick to themselves and the beauty of the land. Something we always tried to soak in before venturing up North as the season started. I see you wherever I go, but fortunatly it's getting better and better. I know longer and nervous to go about my day, and have began to forget about those times. Have you? I see you trying to replicate everything we did, I even witnessed it once.

I hate to think that I was just your type
I saw you two one day before I saw Taryn post anything. You guys were walking into the coffee shop we used to frequent, as I was working on a piece for the L.A Times. I immeditely picked your voice out from the others and my head shot up, as you repeated her name. It sounded almost like mine, and I scoffed. Not only annoyed with your presence, but after a bit of eavesdropping, I found out she was an author. I could taste the vile in my mouth, as tears brimmed my eyes. Did you seriously have a type? Not only our names sound similiar, but we do the exact same thing. I rememeber clearly, not being able to think properly as I stared at my screen. Did you see me? Did you see me as I felt the gears in my head turn? You must of, it was a small place.
Then you two left, and I followed shortly. I could barely breathe as I pictured you two together. Again, scoffing before driving off. It hurt to think that I could simply be discarted and 'replaced' in a matter of months. It was March when we broke up, and I saw you in July after a brutal loss in the playoffs during the Battle of Alberta. I had never wanted Leon Draistl to win so badly, comically.
And I couldn't get over the fact that she was exactly what a hockey player should have at home, bearing your children and running the household. Also, the fact that she was a old family friend made it conveniant for your parents. Cuz, it looked good. It made sense, where you and I did not.

We had 'our song' by Billy Joel, is it yours too? I can picture how you two sing it, holding her in your arms. You sing the whole song lowly, in her ears, her blushing cheeks never ceasing. And then I can picture, you whispering I love you during the middle of it. Because I can still hear perfectly in mine. As I fall asleep, I see us in our apartment in Calgary after being trapped during a christmas blizzard. We twirled, dipped and swayed during the early hours of the morning, drunk on champagne and love. It was our first christmas at our shared place, and I can still hear the tone and echo of your voice as we sung the song together. My cheeks never ceased to flush, as we did so. She must think your so cool, with your new music collection that I left because it hurt to much to take. We used to spend hours in downtown calgary paroozing thrift stores and record shops, growing my collection which in turn- is now yours.
I just don't understand how you can go on, doing everything that we used to do. Is it not weird? Do you think I don't know? I have friends in Calgary in too. Who do you think I spent a lot of my time with, when you were away?

She must think im a creep or obsessed with you and her. Since, I sometimes view her stories thinking I might get a glimpse of you. No, I just think it's quite weird to be living our life somewhat vicrioulsy through her. Hoping that that could heal your heart or twisted mind? That making similar memories with her, will finally get you to stop thinking about me? Ironically, I laugh at her stories when youre in it. Again, just getting deja vu from the restaurants and coffee shops we visited. I hope she makes you happy, because you once made me happy.

So I finished the Night Before Critmas oneshot, and one of the suggested videos on the side was Grog’s oneshot. Since there’s no current-campaign CR this week, I went ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ “Sure why not, it’s fun”. 
Twenty minutes in and I have some thoughts.
First, I’d forgotten HOW fun. Also forgotten the Fjord/Jester cameo Travis stuck in there. And the hint toward Laura being pregnant. 👀 I have laughed to the point of tears once already and I know it’s only going to get worse better. 
Second, there’s someone in the comments saying the more they watch the show, the more they’re convinced Travis is a genius and, yeah, HARD agree. All you have to do is watch the Screw Job oneshot to see that. He’s TERRIFYING with a high int(I think it was 18 or something for that one) character. And it does show more easily with Fjord and Chetney since they have higher int scores, but it also shows through with Grog. There’s multiple times you can see Travis get an idea/thought from how the story’s progressing, a couple minutes pass, and then Grog comments. It might be phrased in a way that sounds “dumb” bc int 6 barbarian, but the thought itself is a really good one.
 An example: after they killed Thordak, and Raishan fled, and they’re trapped under Emon by the magical barrier, the others(+ Gilmore) try a few things to get out that don’t work. Grog suggests something that sounds simple, and is phrased like the thought process fits an intelligence score of 6, but is actually such a good idea that Keyleth and Percy immediately go “Shockingly, I agree with Grog, he makes a good point”. That ability to take a smart idea and basically translate it/the thought process behind it down to sound in-character for a low-int character while still sounding like a good idea is amazing. And he knows when to lean into Grog’s being dumb for comedic effect(Talking to Cravenedge in an outhouse? Getting Percy to title him? Getting cheated while supply shopping just to drive Laura nuts? GOLD) and when to pull back and just let “Intelligence of 6″ mean he’s no good with subtly and thus straightforward about his thoughts.
And even the Grog’s oneshot, having GROG dm for (part of) Vox Machina so Travis could fuck around with the rules and fudge stuff and not worry about getting everything “right” is genius. And it works so well in part bc they’re all such good friends irl, but just the idea is a stroke of genius.

Appreciation post for BSS and their amazing comeback after five years ♡

I haven't been a fan of Seventeen for too long, but I love Just Do It and Hoshi and DK are my number one and two biases, so I was as hyped as everyone else for BSS' comeback in February! This is just a post for me to gush about how much I loved everything about it.
LEAD-UP PROMOTIONS
Pledis pulled a sneaky way of announcing the comeback by posting a hidden tweet with their signature "Ladies and gentlemen, they call us BSS" but the fans found it and Caratland freaked out! After that, everything that was teased prior to the album's release just continued to build on the hype. From the teaser images, we could see that there was a sports concept that coupled well with the album name Second WInd, and also that they would probably be faithful to the silly charm that we love about BSS rather than go for a more mature concept.
The whole rolllout was incredibly well-thought-out and cohesive. The highlight melody in particular was genius. Modeled after a fitness or training app, the members take turns acting as your voice coach, and they each introduce a song that coincides with a time of day - morning, afternoon, and evening. Basically, they want our entire day filled with BSS and I'm not complaining. I was super excited to hear a bit of the featured artists as well!
GOING BSS

We got two special episodes for BSS, rejoice! These episodes were filmed in the mockumentary style following the members as they prepare for the comeback, and they are honestly some of my favorite in all of Going Seventeen. Everything was just so funny and unhinged - the dialogue, the presentations, the side interviews, the camera work, even the comedic cuts and timing worked into the editing. And BSS are the perfect members to take on the mockumentary format because they have absolutely no shame and will do anything for the sake of humor. Almost as funny as seeing the members commit so hard to acting out their ridiculous ideas is seeing them break character. I don't know how they filmed any of this with a half-straight face, staff included. The cameo appearances were great! Woozi deserves a raise for doing his part semi-seriously in a space helmet, and my favorite was Dino giving 1000% as the flamboyant Mr. Cha lol.
ALBUM + MUSIC VIDEO
The music video for Fighting dropped at 11 PM on a Sunday night for me but I was up and waiting from the live countdown. I loved the song and video immediately on the first watch. Fighting is incredibly catchy and energetic, and the song structure is really interesting, particularly the rap bridge that leads into a musical-esque second bridge. BSS were serving as vocal kings all around with harmonies, ad libs, and high notes - even Hoshi! And Lee Youngji absolutely SLAYED her rap. When I took the time to read the lyrics I found them very relatable, motivating, and quintessentially BSS. In a nutshell, life just sucks sometimes but you still gotta keep fighting! And BSS will be there rooting for you (literally, they say "we're your BSS" who is "here to sing this song for you").

The music video was a perfect fit for the song. It was full of colorful outfits and sets, energetic backup dancers and extras, a bit of humor and a super fun choreography. BSS looked incredible and I could feel their energy and how much fun they were having through the screen. I watched the video a good three times straight after it dropped before going on to listen to the rest of the album.
And the other two tracks didn't disappoint either! LUNCH, which is meant to be a late afternoon pick-me-up, is pretty quirky and while not my taste initially, it definitely grew on me. It's really cute how the members are "cooking" up a song to deliver to you, wherever you may be in the universe (or multiverse). 7PM was the song I was looking forward to the most after hearing it in the highlight melody and it was just what I was hoping for. It's a warm hug at the end of a long day. The members’ voices are beautiful and soothing, and the lyrics are simple but sentimental. Peder Elias features and actually sings the whole second half of the song. I was a little conflicted because I would have preferred a shorter feature or at least finishing out the last chorus with BSS, but he has a wonderful voice that fit perfectly with the vibe. And it’s nice to have a part that's easy for me to sing since it's in English haha.
PROMOTIONS PERIOD

The promotions period was no doubt short but sweet. It was only one week but BSS' three music show performances absolutely delivered. They performed with live vocals, unveiled the entire choreography for Fighting, and even brought their two featuring artists with them! Youngji and Peder are such gems, Youngji moved her schedule around to promote with BSS and Peder flew all the way from Norway. Fighting was so much fun to watch each time because of the choreo (super interesting, detailed, creative, and on-brand) and also because of the ad libs that BSS changes up each time. My favorite was Hoshi's shoutout to Coups, Wonwoo and Mingyu for coming to see their Music Bank performance, so wholesome. We also got our ears blessed with two performances of 7PM in a cute outdoor food/drink stand setting. The harmonies in the chorus were so wonderful, and it was cute how they got Peder more involved by having a short dialogue with him at the end of the song.

But my favorite performance of all might actually be their appearance on It's Live. BSS performed with a live band and I truly wish this version could be on Spotify, I love it that much. The video starts off with the members marching in to Fighting (of course). They do a short-ish intro with an overly enthusiastic Hoshi and DK and Seungkwan lamenting about how they get off track when they don't follow the script. Even the band members could help but crack up in the back! Once the performance starts they get totally in the zone and even without dancing, it was so much fun to watch. They killed the vocals, slipped in a bunch of fun ad libs (one by DK had Seungkwan on the floor), and even ran around the whole room to get everyone else to cheer along for the last chorus. It was both extremely chaotic and professional, two things BSS does best.
Oh and as an extra bonus, during the performance period we also got to see BSS doing dance challenges with everyone under the sun and I was living for it!
THE ICONIC CCMA PERFORMANCE

Just after promotions ended, we got to see BSS perform as the ending act at the Circle Chart Music Awards! The boys brought BIG ENERGY. They put on another fantastic performance of Fighting, but what really stole the show was when they brought out Just Do It again. BSS incorporated a little skit with their hair/makeup people at the beginning of the song and sang the first verse up on a raised platform in front of a podium. They sang and danced so well but added an extra silliness to their ad libs and movements that made this five year old song still feel so fresh and fun. During the chanting part of the bridge, BSS ran into the artist audience area and got everyone to join them, then pulled the viral "Next Level" reference in front of aespa before running back on stage to finish up the song. I loved how DK yelled at everyone to congratulate him because it was his birthday lol. The song ended... and then BSS pulled a Seventeen and gave it the never-ending encore treatment!! Iconic, legendary, game-changing. It's crazy how just three members of Seventeen could fill up the entire space with their presence and get everyone in the audience, both fans and artists alike, hyped up with them. Their professionalism and energy continues to amaze me over and over.
EXTRA GOODIES
Finally, we got spoiled with so much extra content to go along with the comeback. Seungkwan guested on Lee Mujin's show (and just recently Jo Hyunah's as well). DK did a video with Dingo where he surprised a fan in order to cheer her up since she had been having a hard time. Hoshi fought his inner introvert and appeared on Suga's drinking show. The list goes on. We even got special performance videos of Fighting and 7PM, plus all the behind-the-scenes.

To wrap this up, I'm just so proud of BSS for everything they've done in this short period of time. It feels like they did it all just for fun and everyone's enjoyment, but the results have spoken for themselves and I'm hoping we'll get to see another comeback sooner than five years.

I agree. Iris' story is quite sad at times and relatable. What I take from it is that she's unhappy and wants more. I think, to a degree, that we can all relate to wanting to be successful, loved, and remembered. That's just a bit of my takeaway from her.
This show introduced me to Rachel. I've never watched Mrs. Maisel. Her name sounded familiar, but I had no idea where she was from. One of the things I love about theatre is being introduced to actors and their work. She's quite lovely. I gave her and Oscar gifts the last time I saw the show at BAM. Last night, I told her and Oscar that they get better every time I see the show. Rachel and I had more of a conversation about it, and she asked if she could hug me after I told her that this was my fourth time seeing it and that I have four more shows lined up. You could just tell that she appreciated it, and I felt very lucky. I was the only one she took a picture with. I think that pissed some people off, but oh well.
I feel like every interaction I've had with Oscar, I've blacked out, and my brain remembers them all in a very different way. So, I'm grateful I have videos and pictures. That's my very long way of saying that I get you.
The atmosphere was different at BAM, but that didn't stop autograph hunters and people from doing too much at times. I don't blame them either. It's just unfortunate that it's so different because, as I said before, I wish everyone could have a more intimate and calm experience. I don't think people realize that they don't have to stay to sign things and take pictures with people. You aren't paying for that experience when you buy your ticket to the show. They could just go straight home if they wanted to afterward. Especially after that show because it is so emotionally grueling. They wouldn't do it if they didn't want to because they get nothing from it. There's no extra pay to go meet fans at stage door. They aren't obligated to do it. So, it's clear that their kindness is genuine.
Oh, I was confused the first time I saw it. Honestly, I don't think I'll fully understand all of it until I read it. I take something new from it every time I see it, and things click into place. Act 1 ending that way definitely would've had a different feeling to it. I sort of like that it ends on, not a light note, but something with some sort of comedic relief because I think it leaves the audience in a better place going into Act 2.

I hope you do see it a second time! I'm definitely going. It's one of the only two weekend shows I'm doing. Everything else has been on weekdays!
Yes, experiences are important. I'm trying to do my best with my experiences to not compare them to others and stop living in the "What if?" mentality. Also, I agree. It's very nice to know that there are good people like them in the arts! - 🎭🌙
Oh sorry anon, I meant that specifically in regards to the drunk scene at the end of Act 2. But I feel that the rock bottom analogy applies to all of the play as well, though it ends on quite a hopeful note. This was my first introduction to Lorraine Hansberry and I am a forever fan now. She was a genius.
And your moment with Rachel? That is so sweet! They're both such humble people if your comments could affect them like that. And you can really just tell it from themselves, it's just apparent in the way they talk and move.
That's also another bad influence of celebrity-ness (ig? lol). Despite everything you're paying for the show, not the stage door experience, which is just a bonus. I feel really bad now too because Rachel's understudy is making her debut today and I wonder how many people are going to be disappointed that they won't get to see a TV star. The line between Hollywood and theatre rn is kinda blurred, no matter how hard it seems both Oscar and Rachel are trying to enforce it.
I find that reading plays in general do take up quite a lot of mental effort, since I have trouble imagining things in my head, but they also require less attention span ig? The basics of it is given to you on the page and you can easily interpret it the way you want. Usually during the semester, I find I'm reaching for plays more, because after a full day of classes I don't want to read dense paragraphs and try to sift through the meaning.
I hope you enjoy the rest of the times you go see it anon! It's such a strong play with strong cast and crew. I feel like I've been spoiled now because I don't want to see any local production back home, because our theatre scene is not nearly as good as New York's. I'm currently on the hunt for plane tickets, and I might end up actually going to see A Doll's House as well, because again, I loved the play when I read it in high school and I love Jessica Chastain as well!

HELP when i saw “fake film major” on ur blog i thought you were an actual film major just joking that you weren’t… how did i get there 😭 but omg i’m so glad you liked it !!!! YES there’s so much spider-man lol i looove the way she uses it, at first i was confused and i thought it was sort of for comedic effect? but i think she’s comparing how both women who are tied up and the victims of spider-man’s webs are rendered helpless and immobile.. at least that’s what i put in my essay so we’ll see if i’m right lol
and yes what u said about her reclaiming that picture, like just the fact that she’s actively looking for it is so cool !! my favorite scene is when spider woman takes away Hito’s picture from the easel at the art auction (male gaze) and replaces it with a video of Ageha’s performance (done for female pleasure) i was like !!!!!! omg so cool !!!!!! but also those opening and closing scenes where she’s sitting down and the guy is like … what’s ur movie about….. cause they almost reminded me of a porn film casting lol where she’s the only one on screen and looking up at whoever’s talking rather than looking straight at them but then the fact that at the very end she says “yes absolutely” when asked whether she’s a feminist.. UGH so brilliant bc if there’s one thing to remember is that SHE’s the director !!! so no matter how she presents herself in the movie it’s all done on purpose and she’s the one deciding everything.. those shots where the cameramen are like “oh lets reshoot that” or when the light falls and shit i thought it was for comedic effect at first (when i watched it for the first time i just thought it was funny lol) but now i’m 95% sure it was staged and purposefully included in there and yeah she’s just a genius.
but yeah i’m so glad you liked it !! if you wanna learn more about her friend, Steyerl made another short film on her and it’s called November. i liked it too but i don’t think it got to me as much as lovely andrea did? but i should watch it again! as for other movie recs 🤕🤕🤕 the the top of my head my favorite movies are like… twilight, mean girls and dirty dancing… ooh i do really like Intouchables (french movie !!!) and Big Fish but they’re also really popular so you might have already seen them! sorry for the long ask hehehe hope u have a good day !!!

I just got done watching it now and I enjoyed it, I love History so much - it was one of my favourites in school - and it was interesting to hear about this situation that I had never come across, and also gave an interesting perspective, esp considering the fact that in losing Andrea, Hito is someone who was directly impacted by what happened
As with Lovely Andrea, I think Hito makes an incredible storyteller, and had a really effective and interesting way of weaving together stories, memories and impressions, thank u for the rec 🥇
You make such a good point about the use of Spider-Man because he is I guess ‘performing’ bondage with his webs so it was a reaaaally good reference. I’m not used to watching documentaries where the filmmaker is the subject so it was easy to forget that Steyerl is doing both here, and it’s clear she’s clever in her approach too.
I liked that scene a lot too and I thought it was cool to see something like this from the perspective of someone who has experience with it and wasn’t looking to shame anyone or anything like that,,
I haven’t watched Twilight for a while but I remember being obsessed with it around the time that Breaking Dawn came out, and I adore RPatz so will definitely try and rewatch, and Mean Girls oh my dayyyyssss one of my favourite movies ever it’s so timeless and it gets better every time I watch it I love that shit, I actually haven’t seen Dirty Dancing, or Intouchables, or Big Fish so I’ll look into those for sure and lyk when I do :)))

More into hugging than kissing. Has to be touching you at all times. You guys spend so much time together that the boys start to joke you are a member of the group now.
Make-out sessions are always a mess, he will say something funny out of nowhere and now you can't kiss him cause you are gasping for air.

I actually started reading manga since a very young age and witnessed the birth and death of different trends - if I were to list out all the mangas I've read and or are still currently reading, the number would easily reach over 500.

But if we’re talking about the most recent trends: webnovels, lightnovels, manhwas... 
I’ve pretty much read all the trending isekai manhwas - you name it, I’ve probably seen it. Whether or not I follow it is a different matter. Listing everything out would be a never-ending task so a few honorable mentions includes: Is It a Fortune or Is It a Woe?, Queen Cecia’s Shorts, Happy Ending for the Time-Limited Villainess, The Lazy Prince Becomes a Genius
I tried to choose some that are quite unique and stray from what you’d usually expect from an ISEKAI manhwa. 
I didn’t really start reading webnovels until just recently actually! TCF is the one and only webnovel I’ve been actively following. In the end, I just can’t get used to the writing style of webnovels/lightnovels. 
I did try Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, up until chapter 50, but I haven’t had the motivation to continue reading. Mind, it’s not a bad plot! It’s exciting and I can definitely see why ORV, TCF and SClasses are the well known holy trinity.  But if I had to point out one reason why I lost motivation would be because I cannot relate to the myths/lore of the constellations involved because they’re mainly Korean myths/legends/history. I’m not criticising since I understand that ORV’s intended target group was the Korean community and we can see that they were incredibly successful in wooing the Korean community. But me, not being Korean, with no connections nor understanding to most of these references, would often times get lost trying to understand what the heck is happening - and most of the time wishing that I did. Because while I know, ORV is not just about the constellation references, but the characters and the plot and the apocalyptic chaos - we cannot deny that it’s a big part. 
Like those mukbang videos we all know exists on youtube. You might not understand Japanese yourself nor do you need to know Japanese to enjoy a video of a tiny gal eating three times her portion size but you just know you’d enjoy the video a bit more if you did understand whatever she’s saying (yes, even if there’s translation subtitles provided).

Anyways. So yeah. TCF is honestly the only webnovel I’m actively still reading.
As for lightnovels - again same situation with webnovels, them being newly introduced to me - I really have no experience in this area. The only lightnovel I’ve read till date would be Tearmoon Empire and I’ve made like 2 posts recommending this comedic light read. So go ahead and give it a whirl.
