The free shareware copy of Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy was released last week!

I'm only just now making a big post about it because I worked about 21 hours (nearly) straight to get it up and ready before the weekend.

This version is free, and you can download it from out website here. The download link is on our website.

Download it, read it, play it, give it to your friends, upload it somewhere else, do whatever with it, it’s shareware. It’s a free demo that you can send or put wherever you want.

This free version of Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy we have released comes with everything you would need to play the game: Investigation rules, PC creation rules with tons of options, combat rules, a peak into the supernatural, a pre-written adventure module where the PCs will solve a murder, and four pregenerated PC character sheets—plus blank character sheets so you can make your own.

All of this is free, and we’re giving it out to promote the full version, going to Kickstarter in early 2024.

Children of the Sun

Ein böser Kult hat mich meiner Familie beraubt. Obwohl ich jung war, bin ich gerade noch so mit dem Leben davongekommen. Um dem noch eines draufzusetzen, zündeten sie mein Haus auch noch an.

Wenn ich meine Augen schließe, sehe ich es noch, dieses Zeichen. Dieses verdammte gelbe Auge, das überall zu finden ist, wo sich diese Sekte ausbreitet. Ich bin es satt, es ansehen zu müssen. Ich habe mir eine Maske gebastelt, ein altes Gewehr genommen und bin von der Schule verschwunden. Der Kult muss zahlen, für ihre Taten. Ich bin nicht allein mit meinem Schicksal und das gibt mir Kraft.

Mein Hass brennt tief in mir und jeden Anhänger, der durch meine magische Kugel zum Erliegen kommt, ist nur ein kleiner Tropfen. Ich muss den Anführer finden, dann hört das alles auf, zumindest hoffe ich es.

Wo ist es gelandet?

Wunschliste.

Es ist eine andere Art von taktischem Shooter und das gefällt mir sehr. Hinzu kommt noch, dass die Kombination aus knalligen und düsteren Farben wunderbar miteinander spielen und schon fast ihre eigene Geschichte erzählen. Das Ziel ist immer vor meinem Auge. Ich muss immer auf die bunten oder zumindest die gelben Stellen schießen.

Die fehlende musikalische Untermalung während der Einsätze unterstreicht noch zusätzlich den Hass auf diesen Kult.

Dass wir nach jedem Treffer mit der gleichen Kugel ein neues Ziel auswählen können, ist nicht nur interessant, sondern bietet auch Raum für Kreativität. Oftmals sind solche Puzzles recht steif und es gibt nur einen richtigen Lösungsweg, doch hier ist es dynamisch. Wie beim Zeichnen vom Haus von Nikolaus bieten ein paar Level mehrere Anfangsmöglichkeiten.

Je weiter ich gekommen bin, umso schwieriger wurden die Level, ohne zu arg anzusteigen. Die paar Missionen in der Demo haben schon einiges aufgezeigt, was das Spiel zu bieten hat.

Irregular Monday Update, Edition 14

Not a whole lot new to share, but--I've updated the demo on Itch.io, and I'm (finally!) almost done getting the Steam page set up, too!

While still concluding at the end of the first act, the demo update focuses on smaller tinkering intended to draw the game closer to final intended quality, including: edits and tweaks to the UI and some visual effects; improved night skies; and (thanks to Wudge!) John, Marybeth, and Patti all now blink.

I'm still recovering from my little spell of burnout, but should still be on track for Bright Oak to release in full sometime in the early months of 2024; I'm looking forward to sharing more soon! In the meantime, if you're looking for something new as we enter the holiday season--might I suggest marking your calendars for the December 2nd release of the Herotome Super Demo...? It's going to be awesome!
