But because it means safety. #Because it was something he was denied and the idea of not having control in his life again is unforgivable. #'Happiness' isn't a goal. We are looking at someone still stuck at the bottom of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. #Everything and everyone is a piece in a game. Bonds and friendships are assets. People are dispensable. #He wants to climb for the sake of climbing. He wants praise and recognition because he feels it is deserved. It's all so hollow. #We could go deeper into his psyche on this. #But these are also tags under a comic in which 'evil penis music' is the punchline.

house is this insanely intelligent universally respected doctor he’s also dark and miserable and mean he commits ungodly medical malpractice crimes and yet he has a Best Friend. that he regularly calls his Best Friend. my Best Friend wilson. imagine you’re dying in a hospital bed after this awful doctor has repeatedly fucked you over forced you into surgery given you drugs that have nearly killed you and then he goes hang on a second i can’t save your life right now my Best Friend is mad at me. i have to go make puppy dog eyes at him to get him back. that’s what’s really important here

Thinking many many thoughts about how Jean was Riko's partner for a YEAR and was still rooming with Goon #3. Because that was how unwilling Riko was to let go of Kevin. And how that implies that Jean was placed as his partner both because of the practicality of Kevin being gone AND as a punishment for letting him go in the first place. Being partners with Jean could actually slow Riko down depending on how often he's hurt (because I don't think Riko was all that exempt from the rules to the point where his partner's performance would completely not matter) and he was still placed there. Riko was just THAT angry at him over Kevin's escape. And all the while he was keeping Kevin's side of room like an altar, even back when he didn't even think Kevin could PLAY, because of an injury he caused.

thought of the day: the way that everyone forgets noah and yet will be forever influenced by his presence in their lives is kinda appropriate for TRC as a coming of age story. do any of us truly, consciously know each person, event, or place that shaped us into the people we are today? though our consciousness forgets, their memory is inseparable from the way we go about life.

i looooove pokémon npcs whose team members subtly imply something about them that's never touched upon in the story or at least never outright said. i love villains having friendship evos. i love trainers who commit hard to one aesthetic or vibe with their team (beyond simply sharing a type) and i love it even better when there's one random exception especially if that's their ace. i love when later down the line someone boxes the cute fun soft baby pokémon they used to have in favor of a seemingly stronger or scarier one to show that they're getting serious. i love when they have a pokémon that's difficult to get and raises lots of questions about them. i love it when the lore behind a pokémon fits the character to a T and i love it even better when it appears to contradict them. give me the story-gameplay harmony but better yet give me what appears to be story-gameplay dissonance but might actually have implications if we're willing to dive deep into it

As much I as love Martha's S3 ending, how it means so much to me on a personal level, the whole "Martha Jones is so strong she doesn't need the doctor" has never sat right with me. Her strength should be praised, but the only reason Martha was strong is because she had no other choice. It was be strong or let Ten keep putting her down across time and space. It was be strong or let Joan Redfern be racist to her. It was be strong or let the Family of Blood murder everyone. It was be strong or let her family get tortured. It was be strong or let the Master kill you for fun.

Martha doesn't need the doctor because she had to outgrow him for her own wellbeing, not because she inherently cares less about them compared to everyone else.

Had she been treated with kindness and grace like every other companion, she could have "wanted" him like the others. It's wild to me how in a show about the magic of space and time the first Black companion's main thing has to be... that she doesn't have to have any of it apparently. This othering dressed up as a compliment of how unique she is. You don't set someone on fire then congratulate them for putting out the flames.

Whew I have been working on this one for a while. It started with trying to show Geralt dealing with Jaskier pulling back and not being physically affectionate with him anymore and morphed into this

Season 2 left us with their relationship in a sad state. Jaskier doubting the importance of his friendship in Geralt’s eyes and Geralt unsure how to fix things beyond a hug and an I’m sorry. I’ve seen some stuff diving into Jaskier’s POV but not as much from Geralt’s POV.

Do you ever have a friend complain about you about all the stress and struggles and pain in their life, and then you react appropriately to it, with comfort and reassurance and understanding and acknowledgment. And you're the only person in their life who responded this way, everyone else dismisses them or minimizes their pain or tells them off. And from that point on, you become their 'comfort friend'. They come to you only when they have a problem, when something bad happens, when they're stressed and overwhelmed and need some warmth and comfort to feel okay again.

But they don't share any other aspect of their life with you anymore. They have friends they go out with, they have friends they share their interests with, they have friends for joking around, celebrating, going on field trips and enjoying new media. You're left out of all of that, and only cross their mind once they're feeling bad and want someone to understand and comfort them.

And even if you try to engage with them in a different way, or express interest in doing other things, talk about happy and cheerful topics with them, they can't keep it up, eventually they melt away and go back to venting and seeking comfort, because that's the need they've allocated you to fulfill in their life, and they have other people for all those other needs.

But it doesn't feel good, for anyone, to be a 'comfort friend'. To think that someone only remembers you when things are bad. To know that every conversation will have drama, stress, pain and despair in it, that your role is to soothe that and then to let them go until they need it again. You can't ask them for reciprocation because they already put you in the role of the one who 'takes care', or because they don't react as well as you do to other's despair, they instead dismiss you like their friends dismiss them, because that's what they consider a 'normal' reaction, and they don't see the irony in that. They don't see what you do for them, they take you for granted, and get you to feel bad for them, because they subject you to the worst of their life constantly.
