Prompt 67
Dan is not happy. His limbs are too small, his hands too pudgy and his body too squishy. And his so-called cousins are the same, despite the fact they were all finally going to turn eighteen (again in his case!) literally the next day!
Um, hello strange masked being, back the fuck off! Who are you?! Put him down- actually put all four of them down thank you! Those claws are very big and he’s not worried but seriously, he doesn’t want to deal with this, he wants to go back to how he was! He’s not fucking growing up a third time!
Did you just click at him?! Hell no, he’ll bite you, don’t think he won’t! So what if his powers aren’t working or that he’s now a squishy toddler thing, he’ll still bite your stupid fingers if you make his cousin-siblings scared!
Talon is just bemused at the tiny (even smaller than the ones who usually follow it!) talons that appeared in front of it with no warning. Sure they have strange green eyes instead of yellow but they smell like Talons, have claws like talons and fangs like talons, and even sound like talons! Hm… It has even more hatchlings now!

okay, so The Hyperfixation Is Hyperfixating, clearly, and honestly im just gonna continue going with it bc THEM— *screams* ANYWAYS @frownyalfred uhhhhhh hope you enjoy this as well! without further ado, another idea inspired by the incomparable ✨borderline✨ that just would NOT leave me alone until i got it all down into actual real words:
at some point further in the timeline of borderline'verse, when they've finally got the whole situation mostly under control, the batfam (whenever they accompany bruce, or multiple kids go together by themselves so they're in batclan mode, to do jl/other crossover shit) sort of ends up just doing the whole Bat-Danger-Aura thing, like, Constantly; somewhat unintentionally, but also with not much effort really made to rein it in, bc they do think the reactions are hilarious lol. and like, the thing is, they were ALREADY doing it pre-bond, pretty much right from whenever dick, jason, or both made their first appearance w bruce outside of gotham and first established the existence of mini-bats for the outside world — i mean, that sense of leashed power, as well as the eerie synchronicity and ability to communicate in the tiniest of gestures, was really just a natural consequence of the crime-fighting codependency and the training bruce put them through, originally. (as you may be able to tell, i have an Extremely Normal Amount of Feelings about the concept of cryptid batfam <3). but WITH the bond?? i mean, the kids are all connected to each other, yes, but their primary connections are all to BRUCE, and once they've had time to adjust, and set + actually semi-consistently enforce some basic boundaries, they absolutely take pride in using that to it's fullest advantage (that they're capable of while not intentionally compromising anybody's autonomy, anyways).
and like… OP's already touched on this in earlier chapters briefly a few times, but i NEED a thorough exploration of the idea of bruce seeing this change in them, seeing them subconsciously incorporate even just these little subtle mannerisms, and feeling so fucking guilty about it and spiraling bc he's terrified that all of his self-destructive qualities [that he's painfully aware of in himself] will transfer over to the children, who somehow never seem to realize that how proud and grateful they make him when they demonstrate their DIFFERENCES from him in those regards. and he's just so scared that he'll somehow ruin the few parts of them he thinks he's miraculously managed to avoid 'tainting' with his mentorship/fatherhood until now… …and meanwhile the kids are about to start crying because dad no what the fuck,,, but also facepalming a little bit bc jesus CHRIST, B, did you never even stop to consider the fact that you're just… really fuckin smart and skilled and know how to do a frankly ungodly amount of Cool Shit that we all share an interest in, and we were excited to have the chance to copy more of that shit too?! just, even beyond the great mental image of the Danger Walk, what really got me about that scene was just... his two oldest boys, who are already so much like him, not hesitating for a SECOND to gleefully take the chance to match his behavior even MORE perfectly, and wanting to know where he learned something as (relatively, by their standards) simple as the Serious Business Walk, and wanting to share that memory because it's just fuckin cool, y'all! like, to be clear, i absolutely respect the fact that, at least by the time that they're entering adulthood/in the prime of their mental and physical youth, any of the batkids are pretty much on, or definitely rapidly approaching, the same level as bruce in general badassery — and they probably each have 1 or 2 specific skillsets in which they can and do surpass him. but at the same time, you CANNOT convince me that, at any given point in the established DC timeline, there exists a non-bruce batfam character who can really look at bruce (like his personality, his aforementioned ridiculous skillset, i mean everything about him) and not see at least ONE quality in him that they aspire to. maybe it's something they already have and just can't see in themselves, maybe it's more a projection of something one of their other siblings has and shares with bruce, maybe it's just some skill, some random combat move, that he doesn't need very often, and so when he does use it, it briefly reminds them that "holy shit, he's The Fucking Batman" — but there's always SOMETHING there, some reason that even when they're having trouble communicating or arguing or emotions are running high, they'll never truly lose that respect for him that compels these ridiculously independent, self-sufficient people to willingly follow him: to listen to him, to trust him, and to keep themselves ready to unite under his lead. because nobody can argue that they are a clan, whose purpose comes from being first united under the guidance and protection and love of the bat.

Honestly the “JLU Wally is YJ Wally” HC/AU has so much wasted potential. Not only angst but also. Imagine how fucking funny the whole situation could be. Imagine
Wally, against his wishes, goes to an undercover mission with the League. When something inevitably blows up, he gets (reasonably) angry and starts muttering about how “It's a curse, I swear. I am not feeling the aster right now. So not whelmed, man”. Shayera looks at him confused, because what the fuck does aster mean?
He gets banned from going to undercover/recon/non-fighting missions
When he figures something that he feels should have been obvious up he says “Hello, Megan!” and facepalms. He does it a lot, and refuses to explain when someone asks him why or what it means
He's the youngest in the team but he's also one of the most experienced
People usually think that the reason why he tends to not tell the league about what his next move is going to be in battle or why he's so uncoordinated when working in a team is because he's arrogant and refuses to listen. It's actually because he's so used to having the mind link to communicate that now he finds it hard to talk out loud with his teammates sometimes. He's working on it
He'll ask someone something and then get frustrated when they don't answer him, only to remember that he never actually said anything out loud
Not having people in his mind all the time feels kind of lonely. Maybe that's why he was so much happier than usual when J'onn was forced to make a temporary mind link for a mission
He gets frustrated because he wants to watch a show he likes but then remembers that the show doesn't exist because it was created in like 2008. It's a pain
He talks to Shayera about his other red-headed sister, ‘Megan’, and gets uncharacteristically sad and quiet when she asks if she could meet her someday
The original JL members started to pick up on some of the stuff he says, so the phrases “Hello, Megan!”, “Get whelmed” or even the word ‘crash’ are commonly heard in the Watchtower
His relationship with Superman is complicated because he's used to holding some resentment for not being patient with Conner when he first met him so sometimes he's too salty with him, but then he remembers that that was another Superman and it gets awkward pretty quickly
If his relationship with Superman is complicated, then imagine how it is with Batman and Zatanna. One is his best friend's dad from another universe and the other is his friend he's known since he was 14 from another universe who is now older than him
And imagine how it'd be with Red Tornado. He's so used to having the guy as some kind of mentor that being his superior feels off. He tried to connect with him but it was just too awkward for him to handle
He. Misses. Barry. And. Iris.
He finds out that the Jason of this universe came back to life and wonders if his Jason came back too. Too bad he's never going to find out
Let him break down a little. Let him live with the knowledge that he's all alone now (pre-JL). Let him be depressed over the fact that his aunt doesn't even know him because both him and Barry are dead in this universe
He thinks about how he was going to propose to Artemis and doesn't show up to league meetings and missions for three weeks
“Why weren't you here?” “I had some stuff to do haha sorry” (he was laying in bed crying)
Certain things, like eating ice cream or going out to see movies, just aren't as appealing as they used to be. Everytime he sees teenagers hanging out, laughing with each other, he can't help but think about how that could (should) be him
He had to quit the team (more like was forced to quit) because his powers were killing him. Now he's back on the field and isn't dying anymore, but he can't help but think that maybe if he was then he wouldn't have cared much
Wally meets the Nightwing of this universe and immediately starts crying
Think about this: Dick doesn't know him, who know what's up with Roy, Artemis is a criminal, Kaldur probably doesn't even exist, Conner also doesn't exist (yet), Zatanna's way older than him and M'gann is dead. Just. Take a moment to think about it
He has to live with the knowledge that he's probably never going to see his friends, his family again. He has to live with the knowledge that he has no one to go to when he has speedster problems. He has to live with the knowledge that he'll never go home
Clark brings his Ma's pie to the Watchtower once and Wally gets so emotional because it smells sm like the pies he used to (try to) make with Iris and Barry (it was apple pie. They always failed so they bought one from a bakery, and Ma's smells sm like those he can't help but remember the good old days lmao. He cries)
I said this once and I'll say it again: he was going to propose to Artemis
He died knowing that he would never be able to make amends with his soulmate best friend
He has to go on a mission where he sees this universe's Artemis (a criminal) and no matter how much he tries to help her and turn her into at least a civilian, he still wasn't able to make her be even close to his Artemis
He has one of those scenes where the hero (Wally ofc) says “You could come with me. I'd help you. You could get away from the people that hurt you and, if you want to, I'd live you alone once you're safe. I can promise that”, and the villain (Arty) is like “Omg really...??” and acts all hopeful and shit but ends up being “Sike no, I'm never going with u wtf”
He finds out Hal exists in this universe too but is in another planet and looses his shit lmaoo
But like srs. The potential this shit has is amazing and ppl should acknowledge it more

Writing my fic, I’m still trying to piece together things from Yingxing’s life because so much is phrased confusingly and I can’t tell what’s what at times, like I’m still making changes based on my own hcs, but
The situation of him arriving on the Xianzhou is confusing to me, because the character story says he came by merchant ship and if this is him arriving on the Zhuming, what merchant ship would be coming from his home planet given the state it was in unless it’s hopping from one to the next which makes a bit more sense
But also it specifically refers to him as a young man right after saying this so it seems like this isn’t his arrival on the Zhuming but the Luofu since he was on the Zhuming as a child/pre-teen not a young man so I’m just
Sometimes they put things together in these character stories that make understanding what it refers to so immensely hard to figure out, and part of it is probably intention looking at some of the details in JL and DHIL character stories regarding what I’m assuming is the sedition, but at the same time, this confusing detail
Honestly, a lot of Blade’s lore has extremely confusing timing esp as of the Jingliu quest, like,, the Hairpin lore
Is that supposed to be right when he wakes up after being revived, like he got the shuhu stuff, went into a deep sleep and eventually woke up and Jingliu lessons happened etc. or is this the thing where Jingliu says he had been reborn after their lessons and thats the context of it and why he has the phantom pains, those being from her? Did he fall into a deep sleep after their encounters?
Honestly, I have no clue but *shrugs* I’m piecing it together slowly, personally I think it’s the former for that specific situation but the CQ really has made the tl a lot more confusing than it already was

Just watched Superheroes and Huntsmen Part One and as a RWBY fan and someone who likes DC heroes in general, I had a great time.
I really loved how they used the fact that everyone knew it was a crossover to their advantage to create a kinda slow boil effect around RWBY details not being quite right. Like a lot of it isn't even subtle (Yang having her prosthetic but being in Volume 1 gear, Grimm glitching immediately, the absence of Blake and Weiss in a pre-fall setting and so on) and yet you're so caught up in the action and in Clark's frantic confusion and the fact that it's a weird ass multiversal cross over that you just sorta rationalise it.
"Of course things are unnatural and weird Clark literally just said that he wasn't supposed to be here and his presence probably fucked up reality somehow. I wonder what time and space shenanigans the JL were involved in to digitise Grimm."
But the weird keeps piling on and by the time you're watching Jaques Schnee be little more than aggrieved and dismissive of Weiss yelling at him at a party, or "volume 1" Weiss having the confidence to do so without fear of retribution you're like "Oh shit is fucked up fucked up, we aren't in Atlas as sure as Clark ain't in Kansas."
From there it's what I can only really call lowstakes Remnant/classic superhero fair. Lots of cool combat, fun, quippy super dialogue, just a touch of personal pain and struggle but hardly enough to register for someone who just finished RWBY volume 9. It was fun.
There were some tiny characterisation things with the RWBY cast that all fell easily within the scope of the fact that they were actively force-fed a false reality and so didn't really strain at suspension of disbelief.
And then there was the DC cast.
I went in expecting to leave wondering why they didn't just use one of their several canon groups of teen heroes, which seems to be a common complaint. After watching it I'm not wondering and I don't think they made some egregious error in judgement using the Justice League.
I might revise my opinion by a great deal if in the next movie the Justice League are still teenagers but honestly I'm curious as hell to see the Huntsmen interact with grown versions of the heroes who haven't had all their insecurities pulled to the forefront, and seeing the Justice League react to the fact that the Huntsmen, while clearly more experienced and steady in their proper ages, are still barely more than children.
I know Doyalist logic for choosing the Justice League probably heavily relates to cold hard cash and someone upstairs incorrectly assuming that it wouldn't be as much of a draw without the Trinity and their current league headliners, and while it's sorta disappointing it's not surprising in the least. I'm choosing to be glad the writers landed on such a cool way to work with the restrictions on rights uses that they were given.
From a Watsonian perspective the idea of forcing them all back to a time where they weren't as good as emotional regulation but keeping them stacked with their big adult emotions to be dealt with in that compromised state while in a facsimile of a world where too much negative emotion makes you bait for murderous monsters is about as solid as most super-villain plans get. It's a plan that would have been even more fucked up and fatal in enacted against teens and turning them to kidlets which circles back into a Doyalist POV in that Of Fucking Course they couldn't have team RWBY fighting alongside prepubescent superheroes. Kids looking after tots is a story for in universe, in fandom, or at least for much more strongly connected multiverses. Sure they could have picked a different plot, but at that point they knew they weren't gonna be able to use teen titans and why not use a cool idea if you have it?
In comparison to my love of RWBY I'm a much more casual comics fan and so while I recognised all the characters in play for half of them I only had broad strokes type knowledge of them learned from fandom and advertising of some of their more popular runs.
To that end the characters I got felt like they hit the broad strokes a casual fan might know and then put them through the same funhouse mirror that teams RWBY and JNR went through being forced into a fake world where nothing was familiar and yet seemed unavoidably real AND needing to readjust to being teens and all the fucked up brain chemistry that comes with that All Over Again. For RWBY and JNR the effect was a little less pronounced due to teenagedom really not being that long ago (and still a reality for Ruby), but of course it showed more obviously in the Justice League members making choices and saying shit their adult counterparts straight up just wouldn't say or do. That was flat out stated in text as the whole point of making them teens again!
I do sorta get why die hard fans of specific characters might feel that those characters weren't done justice but like, that's comics babes. Why would you expect them to do better in an outside of continuity crossover with an anime? Like it's hard enough in any medium to get good properly explored characterisation after a cast has more than like 2 people in their own world nevermind in a massive ensemble multiversal crossover.
As I said before I reserve judgement on hating teeny bopper justice league until I see what state they're in for Part 2. As a stand alone though I think they did fine but that is heavily influenced by the fact that at the end of the day I care more about RWBY than any of the dc characters they included and I was probably quite lucky in that respect.
If I were to register a complaint it would probably be the Weiss and Bruce of it all but it was actually really really easy to just step back and ignore any weak romantic subplot vibes when ultimately it was obvious they were never going to build to anything and when you paused to look at it through the lens of Two Smart Lonely Uber-Rich Kids Who Forged Themselves Into Weapons To Fight For Justice Having Empathy For One Another.
Also it gave us "scientifically minded and highly computer literate Weiss" in what was at least an official story even if it wasn't mainline canon continuity and I love that for her.

Part 4: The Detroit Era
Tumblr media
The Detroit Era
So like I said earlier, Aquaman disbands the JL and this would mark the end of the 'Satellite' era and beginning of the Detroit era. Aquaman wanted to reform the League but this time with members who can commit full time to the job. J'onn has nowhere else to go so he opts to stay with Aquaman's League and from the Satellite team, the only ones who stayed are Zatanna and Elongated Man plus Sue Dibney.   They are soon joined by Vixen, Citizen Steel (aka Hank Heywood who gives them their new HQ),  Vibe and later on, Cynthia Reynolds (who had the problematic code name 'Gypsy').  Plus Dale Gunn, who was the 'guy in the chair/sometimes in a powered armor' person of the team.   This new League was very controversial at the time and would go through many fluctuations.
  Aquaman was a major jerk during this period (probably paving the way for the grittier takes on him in the 90's), he was separated from Mera and he was gung-ho about making sure the new League functioned and the kids were in line.   (Honestly, MM was a much more sensible leader at the time).
As for Zee, she was an experienced Leaguer at this point, and early on acted as a buffer between Aquaman and the newly inducted League members like for instance Hank Heywood:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Source: JLA #234
Here is her talking to Hank and realizing just how effed his life is:
Tumblr media
She initially struck up a fast friendship with Vixen:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

Unfortunately, they both get into a love triangle by competing for the same man; Dale Gunn. Suddenly, Zee is jealous of Mari but Mari ends up winning the love triangle.
Tumblr media
Source: JLA #239
(Yes, that’s Dale.)
After he above page, the whole romantic sub plot is dropped (I like to pretend it never happened) and both Zee and Mari’s subsequent interactions portray them more as teammates with no lingering jealousy.
(You would think the Zatanan being a homo magic and Vixen getting her powers from a magic totem, there would be more interesting storylines to tackle than showing them competing for a middle aged dude.)
Tumblr media
Source: JLA #242
Tumblr media
Source; JLA #247
Honestly, I can see what Gerry was trying to do here: a smaller, more grounded JLA team with more drama and angst and even heroes who can be flawed. Plus more sex. Its meant to shake things up like Cap's Kooky Quartet did for the Avengers but  I don't think it really worked in this case. There is the perpetual feeling of something missing with this JL. Vibe and Cynthia just doesn't do it for me.  The only new member I really like here is Vixen so if I were to recommend this run it would be if you were a Vixen fan and wanted to see her origin and her fighting her evil uncle/archenemy which is covered in #234, #235 and #239).   The run does have it's impact however, as it's the first time we see a more hard ass Aquaman, MM becoming the team's conscious and later when Batman becomes the leader we see him acting more like how modern versions of him act on the League (in the 60-80′s period, writers had no idea what to do with him on the League). The seeds of what you will see in Morrison's JLA and the JLU cartoon are planted throughout this volume.
Anyway, in #246, the JLDetroit is evicted from their Detroit HQ. The League members move to NY. While on the plane, Zatanna reveals to J’onn that she had a premonition in an earlier that the League would unravel soon.
Later when the League is gathered at Vixen’s apartment, she reveals that she is going to Greenwich Village to search for a friend that she sublet her apartment to who is now missing.  This search would lead to Zatanna's last major story arc in a Justice League comic.
Tumblr media
After JLA #246, her next chronological appearance was in Swamp Thing #49 and #50 where we learn that she dated John Constantine at 'some point in the past', Giovanni doesn't approve and so he goes with them to the fateful seance which resulted in Giovanni's death.
Tumblr media
So likely, she went to her father’s place after leaving Vixen’s apartment, then sometime after her father was killed, she appeared in Hawkman Vol 2 #4  written by Tony Isabella with art by Richard Howell.
Tumblr media
 .... (a reference to her debut in Hawkman Vol 1 #4) and then afterwards she continued her investigation for the missing girl. Since she jumped into JL action right after her mother’s funeral, it’s not out of bounds for Zee to do this since she leaped right back to action after her mothers death as well.
Zee's story in JL continues; in JLA  #247-249 she appears in a couple of pages of each issue of Zee trying to find the missing girl from her apartment. The timeline I figure it, is that she went to her fathers place after dropping by in Vixen’s place then after his death, continued her search for her father.
Once again, Gerry gives equal billing to both Zatara and Sindella when Zatanna's parents are brought up.
In JLA  #250: she finally manages to track down the girl to a yacht. Turns out the girl was part of a cult and they had laid a trap from Zatanna. Taken by surprise, Zee is knocked out.   The cult leader is a creepy guy named Adam.
In JLA #251:  we see Zee stripped and tied to a table with all kinds of machinery hovering around her. The cult leader, Adam, wants to extract what makes Zee a Homo Magi  in order to give himself her powers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Brrrr...talk about creepy.
JLA #252:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In JLA #255: we see her again, drugged and cuffed to a bed with a nurse watching her 24/7.  We get confirmation that this story line takes place after Giovanni's death since Zee claims she can 'hear' her father's ghost.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zee manages to summon the JL for help but when they get there:
Tumblr media
Poor Zee. :(
#256-257 would be the finale of this story arc. Zatanna succeeds in summoning Martian Manhunter and Cynthia who also brings her friends with her to where Zee is.   JM DeMattis takes over as writer for this and the following issue and boy is it  a trip.  (Side note, DeMattis also wrote the second half of JLD Vol1).
Tumblr media
Source:  #256:
After regaining consciousness, Zatanna explains what happened and when the group confronts Adam, they find something has gone wrong:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So it turns out our boy Adam has bit on more power than he could handle. According to Zatanna, Adam has tapped into the kind of power that other Homo Magi can only dream of achieving; his subconscious ego has made contact with what is known as 'the Godhead' (basically God) and becoming aware of everything, and I do mean everything, is rapidly consuming his ego and would eventually leave him as nothing but a shell.  So now, Zatanna has to travel into Adam's mind and separate him from the Godhead. We also see that even J'onn can be a jerk at times. Yes, how dare Zatanna be reluctant to save someone who kidnapped and experimented on her.
From 257:
So Zee travels into Adam's mind, first with Cynthia by her side and then when things begin to get dangerous, she casts Cynthia out of Adam's mind and begins to go even deeper. We get some gorgeous trippy visuals by artist Luke McDonnell:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Throughout this trip Zatanna can hear her father's voice occasionally guiding her through the most difficult places . During this trip, MM has his hands on Adam's and is serving as Zee's tether to the mortal world, meanwhile Adam's powers are causing reality around the room to constantly change.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zee finally makes it to Adam's ego (guided by her father and as per MM, it really is his ghost) and witnesses the Godhead and then she....surrenders to it.  Zee is thrown back into the real world, unharmed but it's clearly she's changed. Adam is changed as well. They are both in this zen like calmness.  We get the very first instance of Zee doing a mindwipe; she erases the memory of the event from a friend of Cynthia's whose been freaking out the entire issue.  Though it's not a full mindwipe, Zatanna claims that Cynthia's friend will regain those memories  when her mind is prepared for it.
Tumblr media
Both Adam and Zatanna have seen everything that ever was and ever will be and with only each other to share that experience with, they both hold hands and disappear in a flashing light. Zatanna promises to return and that would be her last appearance in JLoA Vol 1.  MM and the rest of the Leaguers are left confused and unsettled by this as any sane person would be but before they can ponder of this any further, they get swept up in the next big inter title cross over.
I'm not a fan of Zatanna running off with the guy who kidnapped and experimented on her even if they did have a mutual spiritual experience. It doesn't help that while she is inside of his mind, there is a sequence where Zatanna meets what the narrator called 'the manifestation of her ideal man' and it looks Adam and for a second she actually falls for it before rejecting it. The fact that she got written off the title so abruptly probably has to do with the overarching arc of this version of the League getting disbanded. After Zee disappears, Vibe and Citizen Steel are killed off, Vixen retires and in the same issue, MM disbands the League for good. This volume of JLoA came to an end at #261 and to my knowledge no JL run since has surpassed Vol 1's numbers.
Zatanna's story is picked up in Spectre Vol 2 #7-8 written by Doug Monech with art by Cam Kennedy and it is very much a retcon meant to undo everything that happened in her last JL story.  Adam dies in the first page, the Godhead is revealed to be a illusion by Wotan (a Dr Fate villain and possibly one of the first trans coded characters in DC) but John Zatara's ghost was real and it was him guiding Zatanna while she was in Adam's mind. This is also probably one of the most bizarre Zatanna stories ever written as the main plot is about Zatanna's limbs disappearing (although she can still feel them) and then replaced with facsimiles by Wotan so he can use her to enter into the real world. Zatanna runs to Madame Xanadu for help (the latter was the Spectre's co-lead in this volume).
Tumblr media
 It’s probably the most bizarre Zatanna story ever written, at some point, we even see Zatanna reduced to just a head and limbs while the Spectre chases the Demon's Three (who is carrying her real body like a mannequin) through the sewers.  The story ends with Zatanna fully restored and she gets to say goodbye to her father's ghost.  (Side note: I think this is the first time we see Zatanna and Madame Xanadu interact. They were in the cross over with the Adjudicator in WW's tile but didn't get to interact. This Spectre run would be the basis of Matt Wagner and Amy Reeder's 'Madame Xanadu' series where we learn that Xanadu and John Zatara had a sexual relationship in the past, long before Zatara met Sindella.  I firmly believe that if Zatanna is to have a mentor besides her father, Madame Xanadu would be the best option.
Zatanna guest star a couple of times in this volume of Spectre, teaming up with other magical users under the guidance of Madame Xanadu like a proto JLD team albeit with no John Constantine.
And finally, in 1987, the 64 pages long Zatanna Special was released.  It pulls from nearly every story I've recapped here. It features the return of Jeff Sloan, the Hidden City, Sindella, John Zatara and so much more.  To bring things full circle, the story is illustrated by Gray Morrow who also illustrated the 1977 'DC Super Stars of Magic' story. DC recently released a digitally recoloured version of the Special on Comixology but I recommend trying to find a copy of the book in it's original colouring. Since I think the original colouring serves the mood of the story and art much better:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The story is most likely written by Gerry Conway but there is no credit given for reasons unknown. There are a few guesses as to why; I think this was originally meant to be a mini series or even a full blown ongoing. In the JLA letter columns (around the time Zatanna became chairwoman) one of the readers asks about her and the editor replies that Conway is working on a mini series and had turned in his scripts for it.  It's possible that it was scripts for what would become this Special. Maybe Conway had his name taken off because he wasn't happy with the finale result or the story got changed too much for his liking so he didn't want his name on it. Having re-read this Special for this post, I have to say, not even 64 pages feel long enough for all the story here. It's not a bad story though.
To summarize ; Zatanna is performing at one of her shows when she begins to receive messages from her mother from beyond the grave. She returns to Shadowcrest with her stage manager/love interest, Jeffery Sloan. Realizing that it has something to do with her people,  Zatanna and Jeffery Sloan travel to the Hidden City, facing many obstructions along the way sent by an unseen figure. She returns to her mothers city to find that many of it's inhabitants are dying of a magic related illness.
It's an interesting conflict, these are the same people that kidnapped Sindella and kept her trapped in the tower.  Zatanna helps save her mother's people and then goes on a journey to find the 'true source of magic'. This leads to her going through a portal with Jeff but the unseen figure interferes again and she wakes up back at her mansion with everything seemingly fine until she something is very, very, wrong. This leads into a great sequence drawn by Gray Morrow when Zatanna realizes that she is under an illusion and finally meets the villain whose obstructing her:
Tumblr media
Oh hey, Allura. Long time no see.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zatanna is initially beaten and left for dead by her enemy but with her mother's help, she confronts despair, beats Allura and discovers the true source of magic; life itself. At the end of the story she is seen walking away with Jeff while the ghosts of her mother and father look on.
I will do a longer post on this special in the near future but for now,  I think the main problem is it does feel like a bigger story that’s cut down to pieces. Like imagine a 2 hour movie getting edited down to 45 minutes. Still, I would recommend it to anyone interested in the character. I think even with 64 pages, the story could have worked but then again I have no idea what went on behind-the-scenes.  If I had to make any suggestions,  I think having the Homo Magi plot line resolved in the middle of story lowered the stakes too much. I would cut down on some of the Zee/Jeff scenes and then have her and him track down the 'source of magic' as a way to cure the Magi while still facing obstruction from Allura whose also looking for the same thing. Also maybe explore Zee's internal conflict with trying to save the people who separated her from her mother.
 As for Allura, like I mentioned in a previous post, the only problem with Allura is her lack of motivation. We don't know why she hates the Zatara's so much, just that she does and that she would do anything to ruin their lives. We don’t why she is a ‘dark elemental’ and why she can’t exist on earth without a physical host.  Sadly, Allura disappeared into the limbo after this and nobody has used her since. A pity, because I think she has a lot of potential and I love the idea of Zatanna having an arch enemy.
So to sum up, Zatanna went from a girl searching for her missing father to becoming a powerful sorceress and stage magician who forms a close bond with so many heroes. She holds herself to a high standard and sometimes forgets her own strength but she often plays a pivotal role in saving the day. She may have saved the world but she failed to save the two people dearest to her; her parents.
That's her story.  There is often talk about what the female heroes journey looks like and Zatanna offers one possibility of it. Yes, some of these stories aren't perfect but the main problem is that they aren't retold and revitalized. The reason why all your favorites (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man, etc) remain relevant is because their stories are often updated for newer generations, often in solo settings.  The main problem is that for a long time she didn't get an ongoing where she could have truly shined and later writers either forgot or didn't really research her history so they end up referencing  only a couple of stories and ignore her overall history.  My overall point is that 'Zatanna's arc' isn't something that we have to keep waiting for. It's something that's already been conceived and written.  The blue print is already there. It just needs to be dusted off and with a few tweaks here and there, it could be something special.
Part 5: The Zatanna in the 90′s and early 00′s plus Identity Crisis plus my thoughts on her depiction in YJ and JLD.

Okay, I'm putting this under a cut for negativity reasons, because I really did get negative
I don't ship this at all, and tbh I think the way I usually see it shipped involves a not insignificant misreading of LXC and often also of LXC's relationship with JGY.
So the thing about LXC is that he is, in many ways, a very private person, or at least private with himself. Here are the people he seems to be close with: LQR, LWJ, presumably LSZ, NMJ, and to some extent NHS. And JGY.
That is, his family, his childhood friend (and his childhood friend's younger brother), aaaaand JGY. And imho the only people on this list he's emotionally intimate with are JGY and LWJ! I don't think he's even friends with JC, in canon. Like, obviously they know each other, but friends? He's kind to JC a few times, he cares about him in the sense he would prefer he not get hurt, but like, that's LXC about most people; there's nothing personal about it. I think probably their strongest emotional connection on LXC's part that JC is co-raising the child JGY is also raising. And JC...like, I guess pre-timeskip he appreciates praise/kindness from a respected authority figure, I guess that's not nothing? But that's kind of the extent of it.
(I do honestly think that if you're going to ship LXC with someone—as a matter of like, canon interpretation, obviously you can grab the characters and do whatever the heck you want with them if that's what you're into?—you should compare how he acts with JGY. Casual touching, the way they're so often in sync, the way he looks at him, the way he seeks him out and we see them together so often, the way he reacts to him, in MDZS the way they're always talking together—like, I think in some ways for CQL people, of whom I am mostly one, LXC meeting MY so early on can form a misleading impression of his character, because he does open right up to MY, but that's actually very specific to MY! It's not how he usually is at all. He's friendly and kind to people, but usually it's basically impersonal, on his part. And I don't think how he is with any other character can compare; certainly not JC!)
Okay, what about post-canon? JC helping LXC move on from his grief, and all that?
This doesn't work for me on a whole bunch of levels, I'll be honest. Like, first, JC isn't interested in LXC or his grief. Jin Ling is his first priority and HO BOY has JL been through a lot. Plus, you know, now he's a Sect Leader. (He's definitely not going to have an easy time—I recommend reading his interaction with SLY post-temple in MDZS, actually. Granted in CQL LWJ becomes CC, and for JL specifically that's probably better than most alternatives, and certainly than NHS). Emotionally, JC is also dealing with WWX having returned, the whole core reveal, and his own complicated feelings about JGY's death. And...JC is enormously competent in many ways, but dealing with complicated emotional tangles isn't I think particularly one of them. Plus as I said in the JC/WQ post, I have a hard time with JC as he is by the end of canon ending up in a solid romantic relationship at all.
And then there's LXC. The man doesn't want to move on from JGY. He may...think he should want to be more functional? But I think that's mostly as far as it goes. He /definitely/ doesn't want to let go of JGY and start a relationship with someone new; I want to say to idea would horrify him but tbh I don't think it's even plausible enough for him to be horrified about.
But even beyond that, I really do think that LXC is just simply not interested in having any kind of actual personal relationship with almost anyone. He's a lot like LWJ in this, I think, it's just less obvious with him because he is also friendly, kind, and social. After JGY's death I can /maybe/ imagine him making a connection with someone who—it would have to be not just grieves JGY but grieves some of the same things that LXC does, from a similar angle. But that's kind of it.
I mean, I also think CQL LXC is probably going to kill himself. So, uh, that also complicates things. But even putting that aside.
And they're just...not compatible.
I can see the appeal of both of them recovering, but...I really don't think this way of doing it works with the characters.

RULES: Please reply or comment, do not like, on the post and specify which character you want the starter for if for a multi. You are allowed to reply for however many you want, just be specific. Honestly go crazy, I don’t mind how many I’ll have to make. I’ll do em as I go..
[ 01 ] A short random / lyric inspired one liner.
[ 02 ] A  canon event inspired starter { note: main verse is dceu so may be set pre-canon, mos, bvs or post jl . }
[ 03 ] A case / adventure based starter - something along the lines of either mismatched partnership, required partnership, or your must just along for the ride / normal journalism / superhero work ( obviously muse / verse dependent .)
[ 04 ] An angst / hurt / pain inspired starter { anything within reason and triggers, just let me know }
[ 05 ] A soft / fluffy / friendly inspired starter { basically probably cute stuff. we’ll see. }
[ 06 ] A romantic / ship inspired starter { may require further plotting later }
[ 07 ] Throw at me an au / idea and I’ll write the starter for it.
[ 08 ] If you want to plot something specific / just want to plot more in general so I can message you.
DISCLAIMER: Lengths may vary except for one liners. Also will definitely be slow. And unless absolutely specified, I will pick which verse to apply. Whether its in one of mine or one of yours. I may cap on some particular muses should my anxiety pick up but will most likely do any and whoever comments for one at some point or another.

what is your fave part of blue that you've written?? and what was the hardest to write
Ahhhh sorry this took me a min to answer my tumblr was being funky. Hm but thanks for the questions! I think my favorite part of blue to write was definitely Lan Zhan’s pregnancy flashback with Wen Qing! I love writing long vignettes like that & it was really sort of like cheating almost ahaha, felt like I could have my cake and eat it too w/ the main storyline and then the flashbacks. But that one was definitely my fav! Just because I adore Lan Zhan so much ... in a way, I almost consider Blue his story more than Wei Ying’s? In my head? Even though it involves both of them in equal amounts, I think ... since Blue is so much like, a story about family and relationships & LZ was there creating this family when WY couldn’t be, that’s why I think that way. I love the pregnancy flashback and it was my fav to write because 1. pregnancy 2. the whump, probably 3. LZ is such a perserving, strong character, & I think he super showcases that within that flashback especially
For the hardest stuff to write ... I mean is it cheating if I say the stuff that has yet to come? Ahh, really? This most recent update gave me so much grief. But that & the future chapters are really just an issue that’s in my head. As for like, just hard emotionally? Or like, stylistically? Hmmm, honestly! Writing Blue has never been hard until I reached the climactic parts w/ the discussion conference. Back when I reached like 60k in three months and then over, every day it was like writing butter. I wish I could go back so badly. But if I HAVE to pick, just for your sake anon, I would probably pick the WWX/Jin Ling/Mingyu argument that escalated. I re-wrote it a lot. I’m still not entirely sure I’m happy about it, but. The teenagers had to be teenagers, and WWX needed to be in awkward uncle dad mode about it. I scaled it down from a pretty public display to just the three of them. I also almost went w/ JL being weird, and being pre-presentation alpha in hormonal throes, but I didn’t want his emotions seeming invalid. Because I feel like they were valid! You know, growing up and seeing how much WWX hurt his dad, his mom and his uncle w/ his absence. I also wanted the cousin moment between Mingyu and Jin Ling of, you know, talking about things, which backfired. I want to have more scenes between them as well, if I can swing them, since it’s implied they sorta kinda grew up together and reflect JC & WWX’s relationship. I had one commenter say they wished the whump/anger w JL & WWX had gone on longer and I get that too. But I do write his character slightly different having been raised w/ both parents in the picture, a little less grumpster but still a brat! So I’ll have to let it slide!
Thanks for the questions!! Hope you have a good one!!

Hi Ms JL. You say someone needs a website when querying but what do they put on it? In my case, I have no social media and don't like info about myself online, so I don't want to put up cat/dog photos or my hobbies or whatever. I could put up a blurb of my book that I'm querying maybe? Can I add a sample chapter or 2? No idea what else. I figure most people would have photos/hobbies, articles, but I have no idea what to put up other than the book I'm querying. I don't want personal stuff up. TY.
Actually, I don’t care if you have a website when you’re querying. I think it’s a good idea, personally, to secure your domain name and at least have like, a bit about you as a placeholder with links to social media and whatnot if nothing else? It’s like, the equiv of what business cards used to be? But if you really don’t want to... don’t.
I DO care that you have a website when you are going to actually be a published author, ie, by the time your book is available for pre-order. That’s super important. It would probably be easier for you to do that if you already had the domain name etc, but whatever. Whatever. Honestly. WHATEVER. Just *Have a Website* when you have a book to sell! PLEASE!

Ask a reader meme: A8, A9, B5, D10?
A8: What was your first fandom? Are you still in that fandom now?I can’t remember too well! It was either Justice League (the animated series) or Lord of the Rings. For Japanese fandoms it’s either Cardcaptor Sakura or this super obscure series called Detective School Q. I’m not really actively in any of those fandoms now but I’d still dip into Ao3 if nostalgia suddenly rears up, or reblog stuff if anything catches my eye!
A9: Who was your first ship? Eeerk, again one of those I can’t remember so well since they’re all jumbled up together! For the series I listed above - Hawkgirl and Green Lantern from JL (oh my fucking god did i hate what they did to Shayera in JLU??? FUCK OFF WITH THAT), Legolas and Gimli who I didn’t ship exactly but I was super interested in seeing explorations of their relationship, Touya/Yukito/Yue from CCS!
B5: Which story have you read more than any other? How many times?Iiiiiii......honestly don’t know! I re-read stories because I love them, but also for inspiring my own writing. Some authors just absolutely nail the voice of certain characters and their relationships so I tend to re-read their fics while I’m writing my own. Notable examples include Boden’s Mate (and anything from kaydeefalls really) for the Charles/Erik relationship, Anarchy in the UK for Charles’ voice,and lately I’ve been reading Continuing Education since it has a very specific flavour of the dynamics between Charles/Erik and Shaw that’s similar to my current project
.......and of course there’s a few dirtybadwrong fics i come back to every now and then because you can never have too much dirtybadwrong :scheme:
D10: What is one story idea you really want to read but no one has written yet? I HAVE NO IDEA, THE XMFC FANDOM IS SO PROLIFIC. There are a few story ideas that I’m super invested in which are likely to remain forever WIPs, probably the main one being this Charles/David 8 fic because Charles’ interactions with androids and the questions of how humans and androids are different yet the same are so fascinating???
I’m honestly a huge sucker for (relatively) canon-compliant fic especially in a fandom like XMFC where there are just these huge, gaping chasms of time between each installment of canon. I’m preeeetty sure these ideas have been written already but damn would I really like some more fic set around DoFP dealing with Charles’ struggles against depression and addiction, or fic exploring how Charles/Jean/Erik might have formed their own little weird family pre-XMDP.

If S3 ends with a Crisis event that causes Bruce's disappearances that implies a BatDick arc somewhere down the road (Idk, maybe The Light gets taken down but Earth gets toasted somehow in the process and many cities, like Gotham become a No Man's Land. S4 takes place a few years because things have to get that bad before Dick takes up the cowl), maybe the CoO's can be one of the shows main enemies? They could change it up to be a ancient sister conspiracy to the Light. Honestly I think-
2 it’d be cool of Steph could be the next Robin during that time. If Dick became Batman. Tim would become Red Robin because M'gann moved on from the Team (maybe to join another team or be something else important in light of whatever her brother to Mars) and left him in charge of leading the next gen of heroes (yeah I know he left but he could come back. It’s not being disowned by the JL). That leaves Steph to be Dick’s Robin. It’d also be cool because Damian might be too young to be Robin -
3 but events (if Damian isn’t discovered or taken in by the Bat’s in S3) might cause Talia to give her son over to Dick’s care (no matter how hostile they can be to each other, Talia does respect Dick’s abilities and would trust him to protect Damian) if things get too dangerous for Damian to be around her. Which would be good because Dick and Steph pre n52 were the two characters who helped Damian become a good person more then anyone else. Damian would be too little to be Robin but old -
4 to contribute and decide to change his ways. It’d be a different approach. Particularly if he was genetically aged (like I think some canon has him, but Idk) so he was older enough to fight (like 8) but he would come into the world w/o knowing Bruce first. Which would be a constant stress for Dick since Damian would be comparing him to, in Damian’s eyes, a god that was his father. (Which would probably lead Damian to being disillusioned when Bruce came back and wasn’t a perfect human being).
~~~~~
Not sure if the whole world will end up a mess, because if Bruce goes missing that means that they won, and I don’t think they’re going to win this season. The title Nevermore can indicate the idea of Raven showing up (Which could lead into later episodes where we have the character coming into play in season 4), but I also think that it could indicate the wrecking of the Justice League and the fall out from that. I think that Season 4 will have the “death” of Bruce, but yes totally can see the fall out with the CoO coming in and picking up where the Light left off after they get wrecked by Apokolips. I’m pretty sure the split off of the light will lead to other issues in the future for the Team, and we probably will see a very different JL come season 4 or 5 depending on what happens at the end of this season. And I would totally be up for BatDick, or Dickbats.
Interesting run through there. I like it. Honestly I don’t see Steph being robin, I can see here being Nightwing though, and having Damian work with her and Dick as Mentors. Given that the Bat family is way closer to one another than in comics, I can see Jason, when brought back and Tim both working with Damian in their own ways. Maybe Tim teaches him about computers along with Babs allowing Damian to actually get to know Tim better and not try to kill him.
It’s going to be an interesting aftermath seeing what Greg and Brandon and the writers have cooked up for us going forward. Because I don’t see them cancelling this any time soon.
Hi, will you give me the chance to re-introduce myself?
Hey, you. I know that you’ll take this as a cringe gesture as fuck. But honestly i really don’t know how to take care of the mess that i’ve caused beside doing this.
You know really well that i’m not good with talking or saying the right words, right? But actually when i’m writing things down, especially in this tumblr. This is the real me and every words will come out as easy as a booger come out of our nose.
First thing first, lemme say this quickly tho. Welcome to my sanctuary place, Elang. In here you can see what’s really inside my head, because this is the place where i pour everything that’s been stuck and bugging on my mind. You can go scrolling through the bottom of this page if you want to read it all. Well  perhaps you can stop when you reach the picture of me and my junior high friends because after that pict you’ll just see postingan tumblr a la a la yg ku reblog disini.
Because of the mess that i’ve caused, will you give me the chance to re-introduce myself? hopefully your answer will be yes.
Hi, my name is Tiara Syafitri Putri. I have a lot of nicknames, every school that i’ve gone to always give me a new nickname. Mulai dari SD orang2 mostly manggil aku tiara/tir tapi sejak kelas 4 SD temenku ngasih panggilan Titarax, udh kaya kalpanax aja nama w, i know it’s super riddiculous nickname yg akupun gatau alesannya kenapa dia manggil aku itu. Katanya biar keren aja, yaa you know lah anak-anak SD pinggiran jaman-jaman alay kaya apaan.
Next, when i was in junior high. I’ve got a crush on someone named Ghalib. Idk why but i’m always attracted to someone that has been labeled as “the fun guy” orang yang selalu dianggap sebagai penghidup suasana yang selalu bisa aja bikin semua orang ketawa atau join in the convo. Someone just like you ehe. Yaa long story short, meskipun sempet hampir di tembak di Taman Lalu Lintas kemudian akhirnya gajadi, tau-tau minggu depannya doi jadian sama orang lain. This guy give me a nickname “Teteh Tiara” dan yaa jadi ada beberapa temen SMP ku yang sampe sekarang kalo ketemu manggilnya “Teteeehh” kecuali  4 dari 6 sahabat2ku waktu SMP manggilnya tetep ti/tir.
Annnd this is the last nickname that i have from when i was in high school. Well you actually already know the story. The nickname is Botir alias bocah tiara/bola tiara karna temen-temenku waktu kelas X menganggap aku kaya bocah pas lari-lari dan aku bulat katanya, padahal waktu itu aku belum segendut skrg lol.
Okay enough about nicknames, aku lahir di Bandung tgl 1 Februari 1997 di RS Boromeus, jam 18.30an dan dulu hampir dinamain Maghribi karna lahirnya pas maghrib. Untung tidak jadi. Nama Tiara itu diambil dari nama Ibu + ayah, ti dari tuti arnya dari suharto, a di akhir cuman imbuhan aja biar ada jejak sundanya katanya karna kalo nama kakakku jawa bgt. Aku punya kakak 1 orang, namanya Tito Septianhadi Putra, dia 3 tahun diatasku yg mana kelahiran 94 berarti. And he was born on the same month as you, 21st of September to be exact. He had a girlfriend named Sariva dipanggilnya ipeh, and she’s younger than me karna dia kelahiran 98 which is why i never call her “ka”
Ujung-ujungnya w bahas nama lagi he maafkan.
Rumahku di kompleks pharmindo yg mana cuman 3 km jaraknya dari rumah kamu, used to live in Jl Borobudur 5 no 8A yang kemarin aku liatin di google street. But there are few things that might cause my family to move from there dalam waktu dekat. Let’s pray that the new place won’t be far from here so we can still say that we live close to each other.
Now it’s gonna be about the stages of life that i’ve been through. Schools.
Aku TK di TK dayanusa tahun 2001an mungkin, been offered to go straight to elementary school but i reject it because my brother goes there for 2 years, and i simply wanna go through the same thing as him. I used to adore him so much tho back then. Meskipun sampe skrg juga i still adore him, tapi udh ngga sampe yang memaksakan harus melewati fase hidup yg sama persis kaya dia.
SD di SDN Tunas Harapan 2003 - 2009, this is where all the drama happens. You can read one of my posts in here for more details. Because this drama have been the root of my trust issue and the problem that i’m always having when i’m making new friends, and how to maintain everything with an old friend.
SMPku di SMPN 2 Bandung 2009 - 2012, been the greatest time of my life. Bahkan sekarang aku sampe mikir apa jangan-jangan golden age aku itu waktu jaman smp ini??? Karena everything is so great in here, temen-temennya, kehidupannya, kerajinan akunya. I really love those times. Ada drama pun emang drama kehidupan yg mostly ttg love life tai kucing tapi SERU ABIISSS.
SMA as you already know it di SMAN 3 Bandung 2012 - 2015, not really much of a great time karna hidupku dipenuhi dengan belajar - bimbel - belajar. Dan disini kayanya masa-masa love life ku kaya tai alias yaudah gitu-gitu aja dan pernah jadi periode terlama bgt dimana aku ngga deket sama cowo sama sekali.
Terakhir, one of the mess that’s causing everything turns out to the current situation.
Unchpad, almamaterku tercinta~ the place where i actually might meet you in real life. Aku salah satu member di FK Unpad angkatan 2015. Lulus S1 tahun 2019 bulan Februari, dan selesai belajar disini 2021 Februari kemarin. Dan sekarang aku sedang menjalani masa pre-internship di RS Siloam.
You know what, after i wrote all this things down, my mind got clearer about the reason why i’m not trying to stop all the lies that i’ve been telling you from the start. One of the reason is that because your brother is also a doctor, and i admit that i’m such a coward because i’m afraid that you might not wanting to be friends with me if you know that i’ve been lying about few things.
The reason why i lie about my batch or age, goblok bgt emang gue, alesan gue sesimpel karna gue mau mencoba fit in sama lo semua waktu di unpadfess. Karna waktu pertama gue join dan ngobrol sama orang orang, ada salah satu yg join angkatan 14 dan jadinya itu ditreat sangat dituakan gitu. Terus waktu perkenalan kan kita hanya ngasih clue ttg prabu angkatan kita. Aku bilang “prabu dengan abah iwan” karna kukira yg ada abah iwannya angkatan aku doang. Ternyata di 2017 pun prabunya ada abah iwan. Dan yaa kegoblokan dan ketololan gue, adalah gue mikir yaudah iya iya aja dah, belum tentu juga gue bakal temenan atau ketemu sama orang orang disini.
I never thought that you will stay by my side till this point lang. Back when you said that “yaudahlah ya ra kita gini dulu aja sampe enek” my mind keep telling me that after all of that you’ll leave in like probably 2 weeks at most. You know what, maybe the reason why i keep lying is not because i don’t trust you. The problem is me, after everything that i’ve been through until now. I learned that people do really come and go. But my mind is taking it too seriously, causing myself to always think “ah anjir paling bentar lagi juga lo pergi” “this is all too good to be true, i don’t deserve this kind of happiness. Just watch and remember, in a short time this guy will also leaves you all alone lol” “both of you are not going anywhere, the situation will turns out just like what happened in the past, he’ll leaves without taking a glance back at you Tir. Well you just don’t deserve to be loved by a guy as nice as elang Tir. He treats all of his girl friends the same as you so you better be prepared if it turns out that he doesn’t have any feelings toward you at all”
And one of the biggest reason why i keep lying probably because my mind think that i’m the only one that started to develop any feelings for you, for us, when we were back in Nangor. Wow my mind is actually a fucked up mess.
Elang, let me get into a conclusion about all of this for you. Please know that the problem is not you, not that i don’t trust you. The problem is me. It all just me and my fucked up mind.
Hopefully this shitty writing might helps in telling you what’s going on and what’s really on my mind, and i hope i don’t waste this chance to re-introduce who i really am to you in vain.
i might write another post after this, but yea i think this is enough for now
ethan hunt vs batman, william brandt or wonder woman, batman + superman >:)
I ASKED FOR PAIN AND NOW I RECEIVE ITethan vs batman (i’m using batfleck bc im a dceu-exclusive ho)that would be CLOSE since both are tough old bastards who aren’t afraid to fight dirty. batfleck has the upper hand since he has that reinforced suit for protection, but yknow it’s ethan hunt. then again we know from MI2 that ethan isn’t afraid to fucking dual wield guns and use them, although pre-JL batman is no stranger to guns don’t @me about that. hand to hand, it really could go either way, but weapons, yeah it’ll be ethan.
EDIT: on rereading niles’ response to my ask, i’m reminded that ethan is much, much better at thinking on his feet than bruce. bruce is probably? ethan’s equal in planning, but in a good old fisticuffs, where you fly by the seat of your pants, it’ll be ethan for sure. just think of when bruce’s kryptonite ran out against supes. you could SEE bruce shit his pants, because he didn’t plan for that and couldn’t think of one on the fly (plus the whole superman deal). ETHAN WINS EITHER WAY.
will brandt or wonder woman (again, dceu diana)
SEE NOW IT’S MY TURN TO NOT BE ABLE TO CHOOSE (again, by a FRACTION, it’s my girl diana because the dceu would have a gaping hole without her and also im in lesbians with her;; dont @me either abt the mi verse having a gaping hole w/out will because ofc it does but we can fix that with niles’ and sanjy’s wonderful fic, dceu would be wayyyy harder to compensate for lack of diana fucking prince)
batman + superman (dceu)
honestly, i feel like the only person who isn’t dying to see them kiss. i don’t romantically ship it at all. i think of them as two sides of the same coin, intertwined souls who are irreplaceable members of the team, the best of friends, but will also call each other on their bs. basically, a brotp.
DC Rebirth In Review - The Justice League
Welcome to part 3 of my DC Rebirth In Review series. DC are dropping the Rebirth branding in December and i thought i would reflect on what has and hasn’t worked in the Rebirth initiative.
To recap, you can check my previous posts, Part 1 - The Superman Family and Part 2 - The Batman Family, but in this post i’m going to be looking at the Justice League titles. To be clear though, this will be about the League specific books as well as the solo titles for the core members.
Tumblr media
Justice League - This has probably been the most controversial of all the Rebirth books because for a lot of people the series has been nothing but a downgrade on Geoff Johns’ epic run in the New 52, and in a way they’re right. Bryan Hitch’s story telling style is all over the place but i believe the narrative he’s trying to put across is very good. It’s like having a pot of the best tea in the entire world but not being able to pour it into a cup properly. Hitch has been teasing a new Crisis event, the Forever Crisis, and who knows if that’s the way Rebirth will end or if it’s something else but it should be more exciting than it is. Also the artwork on this book has suffered massively from the bi-monthly schedule. The best talent is currently on other books and it needs to come on Justice League sooner rather than later. With Deathstroke’s Christopher Priest taking over the title soon, we’re certainly in for an increase in quality but until then, Hitch’s Justice League is worth a chance, but if you don’t like the first arc you certainly won’t like the rest. - 4/10
Justice League Of America - This book came with a lot of promise, excellent Rebirth one shots and a hero team of promise, and so far it hasn’t really delivered on it but it does show promise and improvement with every issue. Steve Orlando is a great writer, he’s doing some nice work on Supergirl and his Midnighter books have been wonderful too, but he has been slow on the narrative with this team. Right now the series is concentrating on a Rebirth mystery that came up in DC Universe Rebirth #1 with The Atom Ray Palmer sending a message to his protege Ryan Choi about a problem in the Microverse, and so far it has been good with Batman, Lobo, Ryan and Killer Frost searching for Ray. It hasn’t had the most consistent artwork but it has had some beautiful work from Jamal Campbell (Vixen Rebirth #1 & issue 7) and the legendary Ivan Reis, which make it a step above the other JL title. A must buy if you want a different kind of Justice League book. - 6.5/10
Green Lanterns - When Rebirth was announced, many people were disappointed with Sam Humphries being the writer on this book but he has changed minds emphatically with some stellar work. Writing for 2 relatively new characters in Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz isn’t easy but Humphries has made these two people into humans you can relate to and want to see succeed while also showing a lot of respect and knowledge to the Green Lantern lore of old too. The series has unfortunately suffered from some inconsistent artwork but it’s still an incredibly good read that has expanded on the mythology of the series introduced by Geoff Johns. - 8.5/10
Hal Jordan & The Green Lantern Corps - Just like with Humphries on Green Lanterns, people were disappointed to find Robert Venditti writing for Hal Jordan once again, but honestly i was hopeful as i enjoyed his post-Johns era work and thought he could get better, and it’s hard to argue against that given his run on this book. The biggest task he faced was combining a series of books into one, this series takes story beats from his previous Green Lantern book as well as Green Lantern Corps: Edge Of Oblivion, Sinestro and Omega Men and manages to combine them into one cohesive story, albeit a bit slower than some might like. My only problem with this series is the name of it, it suffers from the Birds Of Prey thing by them shoving Hal’s name on the front of it for no apparent reason. The artwork for this series is largely excellent for a bi-monthly title with Rafa Sandoval and Green Lantern veteran Ethan Van Sciver providing the bulk of the work. If you love the Lantern series you will almost certainly enjoy this one too. - 9/10
Wonder Woman - With a blockbuster movie on the horizon, the Wonder Woman series needed a big pull for Rebirth and DC more than delivered by bringing back legendary Wonder Woman writer Greg Rucka. Mixing the old with the new, Rucka uses older elements of Diana’s story and mixes them in with the New 52 elements but also deploys a unique story telling tactic by using the odd-numbered issues as a current day story and the even-numbered issues as a story titled “Year One”, a re-telling of how Diana first met Steve Trevor. The use of this type of story telling only works because of the bi-monthly schedule, otherwise it would take 12 months to tell a 6-issue story, but it works perfectly. The artwork is split between Liam Sharp on the current day story and Nicola Scott on the Year One story, and each one compliments the stories with incredibly detailed pencils. They are later joined by the excellent Bilquis Evely to round up one of the best art teams on one run. Rucka’s run on Wonder Woman ended with the culmination of both stories meeting in the middle in issue 25, and my only complaint about it was that a lot of questions were left up in the air but hopefully they will be answered soon as new writer James Robinson is living up to Rucka’s run quite handily so far. A must read for fans both old and new. - 9/10
The Flash - Written by Joshua Williamson with art by Carmine Di Giandomenico, Barry Allen witnesses a Speed Force Storm that turns random citizens of Central City into Speedsters like The Flash, and introduces the series to a new Speedster villain called Godspeed and a group known as Black Hole. While Williamson is often accused of exposition heavy writing, he also manages to make the story both easier to follow and also engaging at the same time and uses the supporting cast rather well. A later story starring Eobard Thawne AKA Reverse Flash is the highlight of the series so far, my only complaint story wise would be that Barry always seems miserable or down on his luck. Give the guy a break! The art by Di Giandomenico is rather sharp and frantic but it’s perfect for a book about a man who can run really fast. The latter half of the New 52 comic was a large disappointment for myself but Williamson and Di Giandomenico have brought the series back to prominence. There is a slow burn with the stories but i’m still engaged with them and interested as to where they might lead so that is always a positive. - 8/10
Aquaman - Of all the comics, this one feels more politicised than the others. The first 2 volumes deal with Atlanta’s relationship to the United States and how Arthur controls his kingdom, not to mention how the other members of the Justice League view him as a hero. One of the great things about this run is that it wasn’t afraid to come out of the gates quick, setting up a war between Atlantis and America with Black Manta manipulating both sides. Artwork duties are split between a group of artists such as French artist Philippe Briones, Brad Walker (Green Lantern: New Guardians) and Scot Eaton (X-Men), and they provide a similar, albeit simple style that allows for lots of action to be peppered into each issue. Aquaman is now a monthly title as opposed to a bi-monthly one but it hasn’t diminished in quality at all as it has popular artist Stjepan Sejic on art now, and together he and Dan Abnett are carving out quite the legacy under the sea. - 9.5/10
Cyborg - One of my favourite DC You books returns with a new writer in John Semper Jr. Semper is most famous for writing the animated Spider-Man series from 1994 so he’s not unfamiliar with comic book characters, but this marks his first foray into comic book writing itself and i must say, he’s doing a good job of it too. The problem with Cyborg in relation to other characters is that he doesn’t really have the supporting cast that the likes of The Flash and Batman have, so Semper has had to build him one, with new friends like Exxy the hacker and new Detroit hero The Black Narcissus. Part of the reason i like Semper’s work though is because he clearly has the Silver Age influencing him into writing big, crazy sci-fi stories. The move to a monthly has helped the book somewhat in the art department but i feel that the right artist on this book could make it a smash hit in the same way Sejic has on Aquaman. - 7.5/10
Green Arrow - Of all the Rebirth books, Green Arrow is one of only a few that kept its previous writer in the shape of Ben Percy. In Percy’s pre-Rebirth run he was accused of being a bit grim but his Rebirth series is more or less the opposite. Fan service is on display here as Dinah Lance AKA Black Canary is introduced, and for the first time since Flashpoint the romance between Oliver and Dinah is back. And that’s not the only thing as Oliver now sports his famous goatee. While the story is a bit more peppy and action orientated, Percy’s villainous Ninth Circle retain some of the grim that he had become known for but coupled with the wonderful visuals from Otto Schmidt and Juan Ferreyra the Green Arrow book finds a perfect balance that has been missing since the Lemire run in New 52. - 9.5/10
Trinity - DC took the logical step of combining both Batman/Superman and Superman/Wonder Woman into a much better Trinity series. The series, while short, so far has 2 distinct runs on it. The first is by Francis Manapul who pulls off pure magic by writing, pencilling and colouring all of his Trinity issues, the only thing he does do is the lettering. Getting back to the core of what makes the Trinity special, he opens up the past of each member to the others, allowing them to experience each other’s lives a bit more and gain a closer understanding. The second run is one revolving the idea of Trinities in DC and was started by Cullen Bunn, but now being written by Suicide Squad writer Rob Williams, involving the classic Trinity meeting the Mystic Trinity of Constantine, Deadman and Zatanna, the Dark Trinity of Red Hood, Bizarro and Artemis, and the Evil Trinity of Circe, Ra’s al Ghul and a reluctant Lex Luthor. The latter story concerns a run in with the sister of the Lazarus Pits, the Pandora Pits, which want to unleash evil on Earth. Even though both stories are different, they don’t take away from the fact that Trinity is an excellent returning series for DC, one that allows them to tell more concentrated League-centric stories without taking over the main Justice League books. It’s a must buy for Manapul’s work alone, truly a work of art. - 9/10
Conclusions
With movies coming out in the DCEU slate relating to these characters, interest in them is at an all time high and DC have done a relatively excellent job of providing interested new readers with excellent content to peruse in titles like Green Lanterns and The Flash, as well as satisfy old readers too with some excellent fan service in series like JLA and Green Arrow.
Tumblr media
While the majority is excellent, the flagship Justice League book should really be better. Christopher Priest taking over the book provides a glimmer of light though, as the series really should be one that leads the way for the rest of the DC Universe.
Thanks for reading!
Next Up: The Young And The Violent (Teen Titans, Suicide Squad etc. lol).
@like-a-million-suns  like-a-million-suns please tell me what you thought!! I'm not worried...
I thought about it like this at first and honestly I cried watching it and was angry during most of the film. Still lots of stuff didnt make sense. I watched it with my boyfriend and ended up a looot more affected than him, I even told him at first that I thought it was about women giving everything of themselves and still not being enough for men. But later we analyzed the religious allusions and my boyfriend told me mother! most likely refers to mother nature. (Cont)
(Cont) It made a lot more sense like that. How humanity is destroying Earth intertwined with a religious narrative. We searched and apparently the Biblical and environmental interpretation is the one meant to make the more sense. But I swear before taking bit by bit of the movie apart to match it with something biblical I thought the same as you and I do believe many of us felt like this watching it. I still feel like it meant this to me in a way. And I’m still angry.
But someone saying it can’t mean what you felt it meant to you as a woman because “Mother” refers to mother nature is ignoring the fact that the earth is coded as a woman and humans and their impact on earth is coded as “Man.” If the damage we see JB’s character do to JL’s character is relatable to us as women, there is a reason. Her literal experience in that movie encompasses so many women’s experiences so could it be that it’s because we are taken for granted and are victim to the patriarchal entitlement of Man in similar ways that the earth is taken for granted environmentally? These things can go hand in hand and work at the same time.
Aronofsky made The Giving Tree pre-Mother! reading, and if he missed the fact that that book is considered feminist literature when discussing why that poem influenced his film, then maybe he accidentally made a movie about a female experience. But I feel it’s more purposeful than that because he also said Woman and Nature is the godmother of the film, too. What clenches it to me is the gem at the beginning and end of the movie. I don’t think there is a metaphorical equivalence in the Biblical or environmental readings to turning a woman’s pain into something beautiful (the stone), and moving onto the next one. That’s just... like... about a toxic dude and his damaging relationship pattern. (In the Biblical reading, what would that represent? And in the environmental reading... would that represent.. him going to.. a new planet and destroying that one too?? I???)
I don’t think it just means one thing but what’s so frustrating to me is that people want to ERASE the feminist reading of this movie (when I swear to cHRiST it is impossible to separate it from any of the other readings) by mansplaining correcting us when we point this reading out to say it’s ~actually only about [insert other readings here].
I still believe you can’t really separate the Biblical reading from the patriarchy nor the environmental reading from how women in general are treated by Man, as well.
If I were you, I wouldn’t feel discouraged because I read it this way and my boyfriend didn’t. He didn’t because he can’t probably, because it’s not something he’s ever going to understand first hand. I hope he will maybe listen to why you felt this way about it and realize that there’s a reason you are not alone in this and your reading is not wrong, either.
