Aren't You Sick of Sleeping Alone? features a child character "consenting" to have sex with a drunk adult, because I thought putting the characters through something like this and seeing how they'd react the morning after would be interesting. Whisper Your Love is about a victim of CSEM struggling to find sexual liberation — and failing! The Need To Be Loved is about heartbreak and the inherent beauty/pain of vulnerability. all flowers (in time) bend towards the sun is about me self-projecting my struggles with intimacy onto my comfort characters.

Unlike you, I have no problem distinguishing, say, Ciel Phantomhive (exceptionally intelligent, cunning, ruthless, vengeful murderer) from a real-life sixth-grader (kind of loud, mostly annoying, learning algebra, probably shouldn't have caffeine).

Child characters are tools. For the sake of the story, they are smarter than actual children, more capable, able to problem-solve and generate significant conflict, etc. Child characters can argue when they're angry and explain themselves when they cry (real children feel angry and sad, too, but generally lack the emotional awareness to explain why they feel this way, let alone in a healthy, relationship-defining way).

Child characters are functionally the same as adult characters, just smaller. You know why, anon? Because they are not real and only exist as a vessel through which to tell a story.

I don't find "fictional minors" attractive, actually. I find characters attractive. Their age is negligible. My favorite characters are my favs for their personality and their themes. I loved Ben Tennyson, for example, when he was ten, and when he was sixteen, and I love him when I write him in his twenties, and thirties. Age is just another part of the story to tell. (I can write about a teenager struggling to make time for their new relationship, and I can write about that same character as a thirty-year-old doing taxes.) It doesn't mean anything more.

As for why other people do... Because humans like things that are aesthetically pleasing, and a large part of character design is making the character appealing to look at. It's literally the exact same reason why people like sunsets or pretty buildings or dog-grooming videos.

An adorable and creepy goth girl who may or may not have in universe ties to the Texas Chainsaw massacre. Which yes, implies that black lagoon is set in the same universe as the TCM movies.

Dazai Osamu (BSD)

Love the depiction of depression and mental health problems with the guy. Love how he is constantly present everywhere and is seen through everyone else's perspective and yet we know so little about him. He is a dork and a brat and so annoying. He is usually aloof and distant but deep down has the capacity to be tender and kind that is only seen in the rare moments of vulnerability. But he is so hopeful and yet completely convinced he deserves nothing.

Chuuya Nakahara (BSD)

He's such a tragic character like his life is one compromise after another as he gets pushed further and further into a bad situation but he will not let that stop him from making the best out of his situation. His compassion and empathy for even those who hurt him is so powerful but his brutality and intelligence is another aspect that makes him stand out against the other characters of his kind. And then you have his incredible loyalty where he will cross all boundaries to protect those he considers his people. Gorgeous characterization honestly.

Yato (Noragami)

Another extremely tragic character and one who is trying so hard to change his fate despite everything. My guy does NOT catch a single break through the centuries he has been alive and he is still so hopeful. Not to mention letting Bishamon despise him for so long just to protect Kazuma, a guy he barely knew at the time. UGH. And his whole thing for Hiyori and his affection for Yukine. Kill me!

Yukine (Noragami)

This was the first time I cried honestly. His backstory had me curled up in my bed unable to eat for an entire day. And his growth from an annoying unlikeable brat to one of the most lovable characters is crazy. Also no, I will never not cry over Yukine calling Yato 'dad'.

Jeremy Pascal (Tales from the Gas Station)

I didnt realize how much I liked him till I thought he died. In that regard I'm like Jack I guess, neither of us realised how much we cared for this adorkable himbo ex cultist. The fact that he is genuinely heartbroken that his suicide cult abandoned him and committed without him is so...oddly endearing and just the energy he adds is charming. He's also such a great friend to Jack, man better start appreciating him more.

Sorey (Tales of Zestiria)

This is my son. And my sun. He is the most precious, sweetest boy to me. Aside from being ridiculously gay about Mikleo, the guy is what you'd think is a typical hero figure in such a setting. Pure, celibate, sweet and even tempered etc. But he is snarky as hell, constantly teases others, is NOT oblivious contrary to popular opinion. He is also irritable. I also love that he is an archaeology nerd.

Irma Lair (W.I.T.C.H)

I dont remember too much about her but I always really liked her. Enough that she is still amongst my absolute favorites. It probably helps that she was made wlw in the tv series and has some shippy moments with Cornelia in particular.

Balalaika (Black lagoon)

Listen, she is an ex military woman, who went MIA with her entire squad of loyal soldiers and now runs the fucking mafia in Roanapur. Woman is gorgeous and has acid burn scars all down her face and body. And she is terrifying. She will break necks with a smile and values loyalty and efficiency above all else. But she is such a deeply damaged woman who deserved better. But see, the people in Roanapur are there cause this is their last stand before they end up dead.

me hiding an underwhelming amount of hcs under this cut im so sorry oomf im really bad with headcanons for some reason but let me try to think if i have any lmfao

- i think them (literally) sleeping together is a big hc for them in general but that’s probably my favorite akishinji hc of All Time … it can do no wrong… its perfect…

- (more likely fits post canon/shinji living route) shinji being clingy asf is also one of my faves idk i think there’s just something in seeing him happy and shameless for once in his shit life 😭 getting hugs and physical contact he used to not think he deserves … i eat it up …

- aki being a cat person i think is a hc … it mostly came to me from pq when hes being so dramatic about koromaru licking him … he loves koro yes but i believe he is a cat person at heart … shinji is generally an animal lover but he’s also just a dog person

- p4au debunks this with that god awful design but i’ve always believed it: aki’s wardrobe is immaculate. guy is always dressed in some nice ass clothes and perfect style. ignoring p4au i also think aki would dress nice even in timeskip

- this is also popular methinks but them taking in ken and koromaru time skip is another that i basically just treat like its canon lmfaoo this one also is just perfect… does no wrong… amazing …

what about the male companions (or at least deacon, mac, and danse) getting dragged out into the glowing sea with sole to find Virgil, but sole is horrible at using their map and the companion is starting to get radiation sickness but sole hasn’t even noticed

Fallout 4 Men Companions React To Sole Getting Lost In The Glowing Sea While They All Get Radiation Sickness That Sole Ignores

Deacon

“Hey uh I think your pipboy’s upside down or something. Mind if I take a look? You know, before we turn into fleshy glowsticks?” He wants to be polite so bad since Sole does this kind of thing a LOT but they were supposed to find virgil and its been three hours and Sole is still lost. Deacon jokes a bit during the first hour but by hour 4 he’s like Give me your pipboy now :).

Nick

Oh god he knows that look on Sole’s face. The “don’t worry I got this dont interrupt me” look. Happened on the trip to goodneighbor and it’s happening here. Nick knows that he will be fine but Sole??? Brother in christ this is the glowing sea now is not the time!!!! By hour two Nick sighs and says,”Oh give me that!” And yoinks their arm to look at the map. Sole is absolutely not allowed to walk ahead and if they even think about it Nick gives them a disapproving look which mentally kills them because disappointing Nick Valentine hurts more than 23 stab wounds.

Danse

Every time Sole insists they lead the way anywhere, Danse dies a bit on the inside. He wants to respect them but by god he is dying so much on the inside. Thankfully they both have power armor but its hour 6 and they’re still not there and power armor can’t save them forever. Danse looks them in the eye and says something like,”I Respect You. I Really Do However We Are Going To Die If You Don’t Give Me The Map.” Nothing but the sound of Sole’s shameful power armor THUMPTHUMPTHUMP and Danse’s cool power armor THUMPTHUMPTHUMP is heard until they reach Virgil.

Preston

The map expert. After all, he’s always marking settlements on your map(i couldn’t help myself its too perfect for this sorry). Ok but Preston would know a lot about cartography actually. He’d spend his free time making maps himself and they’re super nice looking. When this quest comes, he lets Sole take the map because they asked nicely. However he did not know that Sole gets lost super easily and also cannot read a map(Preston was always the one holding them and leading the way after all). Preston so desperately is trying to give them hints on how to properly read it but Sole is not picking up at all. Makes a few stern but polite comments about the radiation. Eventually he awkwardly goes “hahahahaha you wanna learn how to read a map? right now? please” and tells Sole how to read it as he’s leading the way.

Maccready

He was already not thrilled by the idea of coming here given the. You know. Radiation and horrors. Sole was super excited oddly enough. They fucking LOVED exploration even if they couldn’t read maps for shit. However this isn’t some random field in the commonwealth this is the glowing sea. Maccready would firmly tell Sole that “Look, I know you’re excited and whatever but try not to wander too far off the trail. It’s just…very dangerous in the glowing sea and I think it would be best to get in and out as fast as we can. Trust me. Anyways, that was all I wanted to say. Lead the way.” He wants to be nice about it because Sole is his best friend/and or partner but he prefers his best friend/and or partner very alive and not dead from radiation poisoning. After 15 minutes he takes the map and starts leading them. He is not patient wyetwfwtsgacwg

Codsworth

Oh he is so patient about the whole ordeal. He suggested they take a lot of extra rad-x and radaway before they went into the glowing sea (he offered to carry it all too). He knows Sole is really bad at reading maps and whatnot (Sole has gotten lost at the park pre war so much. The amount of times he found Sole in increasingly bizarre places due to this…). Codsworth gently taps their shoulder every so often, offering even more radaway and rad-x. Occasionally he’ll make comments about how he’s General Atomics Finest(tm) and how he is really good at navigating terrain and reading maps. Eventually Sole does admit they’re lost (probably around hour 10) and lets Codsworth lead the way.

Hancock

Hancock loves taking in the scenery alongside a nice bath of radiation as much as the next guy but uhhhh he is very worried about Sole by the first hour. Are they. Are they okay??? They’re glowing a bit uhhhh he should stop them. Says something like “Hey [nickname] why don’t ya let me lead the way, yeah? Just kick back and stroll while I do all the work.”

Strong

He looks at Sole like what the FUCK are they doing. Human glow, no sight of cave. Strong lead way. Human is bad at navigating terrain!

Gage

Gage stares straight into Sole’s face like,”Boss, we’ve both seen some shit but I’m going to shoot you in the head if you think I’m just gonna stand here twiddling my thumbs while we get fuckin microwaved by the earth. Give me the damn map.”

Goodness I really love your style,,, if you don't mind me asking or haven't answered already, what is your drawing process like? How do you plan your shapes/colours or does it come to you naturally? It's seriously,, so cool,,, like the main colour is part of the background but I can still comprehend and make out body figures/faces

hmmmmmmmmmm well it depends on the piece really! in general however if i get an idea i do a loose sketch like so:

i knew i wanted to draw tama but i dont like drawing hats, but i didnt want to draw her without the hat because that would mean id have to draw her other eye, which in my brain is a lot of work, so the easiest way to draw her would be to just uhhh use negative space LOL so i used the lasso tool to block out her hair/skin and then inverted the selection, filled with a vaguely textured brush, and then winged it from there.

as you can tell theres Shapes and such that werent present in my initial sketch which is really just a process of me painting over with new layers and trying to decide what looks nice with the least amount of effort. ive said it before but i am legitimately a very lazy artist and try to find shortcuts as much as possible LOL but also i started this off like "no way im not going to draw those transparent forearms/hands!" and then well look what i did. jokes on me

as for colors im very fond of using gradient maps and adjustment layers to make them tie together better or just look more interesting in general.

for example for my friend ryuki i started w/ a monochrome background and tried out a bunch of different gradient maps/blending modes

the bright colors are like fine.. but not quite the vibe i was going for so i duplicated the layer and tried out another gradient map and blending mode

which then i said OK good enough :-)

i have a timelapse here that more or less shows this same process - i had the general idea of what i wanted to do but changed things as i went along. i also did a little post on layer blending modes here

idk if this helps or answers your question at all ? everything i know about art is from trial and error but i do like to share these things in case it can help others or give them ideas :~)
