how you pamper them when they're stressed/overworked

a/n: requested by the sweet @almost-gabrielle, i hope you enjoy it, and everyone else too - it's going to be GIGANTIC! 😍 be nice, cause I included some characters I haven't written much before (exciting!!!) and if you reblog with a comment or a nice tag... i'll love you forever! 💖 that means a lot, and i'm very grateful for all of it 🥰

ARAGORN: he actually feels like that quite often, but he’s incredibly good at hiding it. Luckily, you’re an expert in reading him like an open book, but oftentimes you need to literally physically drag him away from whatever he is doing (and he might complain as you do so). Aragorn just enjoys sometimes being quiet with you, and it’s usually what he needs when his mind is racing, or his body is overexerted. Or both. You can just lie down together and run your fingers slowly through his hair, and that will help him forget his worries at least for a little while. Secretly he is an absolute sucker for sweet, romantic confessions of love and affection, and he will melt if you whisper sweet nothings in his ear.

LEGOLAS: something has to be extremely serious for him to feel that way, because his limits are very high; but in those moments he just wants to get away from everything as soon as possible and run to you, because with you the rest of the world just fades away. He enjoys an outing in nature, far away from real life, especially if the two of you find a nice lake or river to go for a swim in, and eventually act like a couple of children splashing and chasing each other. If that doesn’t help, he likes to sit in front of you and let you braid his hair as he talks about whatever is on his mind, and it also helps him physically relax to have you sitting behind and so close to him.

BOROMIR: this man will most likely push himself to his absolute limits, because he shoulders too much responsibility and feels pressured constantly to be on top of things. However, it’s easy to notice when he becomes a bit more irritable at one point, and then you know it’s time to talk him into taking at least a little break. That can be a slippery slope, because once he gets you alone for 5 minutes, it can very easily turn into 15 hours, and he would never finish anything. But on some days it’s just necessary - you sweet talk him into a cuddle session, during which he accidentally falls asleep with his head over your heart, or you make some tea with love as the special ingredient – and tell him that! He’s going to melt and finally, gratefully accept that his partner wants to look after him.

FARAMIR: much like his brother, he will probably suffer in silence, but you can’t miss his tired sighs every now and then, and the way he shuts his eyes and rubs his temples. If you hug him from behind, he will melt into your touch and lean onto you so much that you will almost topple over, but that will also make him admit to himself that he really needs a break. Run him a nice, hot bath complete with fragrant ingredients, and candles lit around it, and he will be forever grateful. If you don’t join immediately, he will very sweetly ask you to come with him because 'oh the bath is so big and so lonely' without one more person in it.

ÉOMER: this hardworking man is actually quite in touch with how he feels, both physically and emotionally, and he knows when things are becoming too much and he needs to step away for his own good. It is not unusual for him to go search for you and suggest that the two of you do something away from everyday life. Many times he doesn’t even suggest anything, he just follows behind you whatever you’re doing - taking a walk and admiring some trees in bloom? He’s right there holding your hand. Sitting on a balcony and reading? He will lay his head on your lap and ask you to read to him. And he is content just being present with you.

SAM: he gets both overworked and stressed quite often, poor thing. Make him something to eat and bring it outside while he’s working in the garden, and just have a spontaneous mini-picnic in the backyard. Although he’s very hardworking and persistent, over time he’s learned to accept your help and pampering, and he really really enjoys it too. If he is under mental stress, maybe you’ll need to push him a little bit to tell you what is on his mind, but once he does, he will gladly listen to your advice or any help you can give him.

FRODO: baby boy is in his head a lot and oftentimes he will accidentally create things to worry about, and he will just zone out. if he has a faraway look in his eyes, while doing nothing in particular, you can accurately guess what is up. He likes to feel useful, and he will gratefully accept if you ask him to help you with whatever you’re doing - it gives him an excuse to be kind and helpful, but also spend time with his favorite person. Especially if you’re organizing/re-organizing something, he will enjoy doing it with you, or cooking - he might not be the best at it, but he delights in giving you a hand, and he likes to learn and improve new skills anyway.

MERRY: he is actually much more of an overthinker than he seems to be on the outside, so stress sometimes just generates outta nowhere! Also he isn’t the biggest fan of physical labor out there, but he is a little bit of a show-off when it comes to you, and he will go above and beyond when helping you with something or doing something for you, until he can barely stand. Afterwards he will take pride in the fact that you had to force him to stop whatever he was doing, but he was simply being so very nice to his favorite person! Something he loves to do to unwind in those moments is just come up with random stories with you, the two of you taking turns making up characters and events. He is a little bit of a baby and he will just take your hand wordlessly and put it in his hair, because it feels nice when you run your fingers through it.

PIPPIN: he will either be stressing over very small, irrelevant things, or something absolutely terrible, no in-between. If it’s something small, he has no problem rambling about it to you, and that usually helps him sort things out; but if it’s something serious, he will grow quiet. The best thing you can do for him in those moments is distract him with a silly idea like “let’s go for a walk and find as many kinds of blue flowers as we can” or just straight up make him laugh - it’s the best medicine. He wouldn’t ask you directly to do it, but he’d love it if you could just hold him or cuddle him for a bit (he’s the little spoon of course).

BILBO: oh he will get worked up over a whole bunch of random things; and when he is working on something, he goes all in (and then has a random episode of doing absolutely nothing), so you need to be the one who grounds him in reality sometimes. Just don’t startle him when approaching him quietly. He is very responsive to your touch and he will just lean into you as soon as you’re near, almost forgetting about everything else. He adores it when you hold his face in your hands and he will look at you as if hypnotized while you comfortingly reassure him that everything will be alright and that he doesn’t have to do anything alone as long as you’re around.

FÍLI: he is very big on “strong protective independent dwarf” and sometimes he doesn’t fully allow himself to rest properly, or to process some things that are bothering him on the inside. However, at one point it will all have to culminate, and then his first instinct is to shut himself off. A guaranteed way to get through to him is to kiss him senselessly wherever you can reach and it makes him subconsciously relax almost immediately. He will kiss you back passionately which helps him eliminate some of the tension he’s feeling. Additionally, he will never ever say no to receiving a nice little massage from you.

KÍLI: oh he is quite proud of himself if he ends up overworking himself for you, as if it gives him bonus partner points. You will gently scold him for pushing himself too far, and then he will pout, but you know he still doesn’t regret it. Then he himself will drag you away for a cuddle session - he chose that as his reward for being the very best partner in all of Middle-earth - but you don’t have to exclusively cuddle. He finds it very relaxing if you sing something quietly to him and he will look up at you with shining eyes.

DREAM:

I feel like Dream's love language is mostly physical touch, so he'd be the most willing to cuddle.

And although he probably has a very fucked up sleep schedule and only gets to cuddle you for a few hours before you wake up, his soft touch and warm body is so worth it.

If you're asleep by the time he gets to bed, he quietly sneaks underneath the covers and instantly searches for you with his arms, wrapping around your waist and pulling you into his hold.

He mostly likes being the big spoon, pressing your back to his chest so he's able to snuggle his face into the crook of your neck and press soft kisses along your skin, smiling if you giggle or try and playfully wriggle away from his affections.

But just because he's normally the big spoon, doesn't mean he dislikes being held.

There are a few days where he just wants to collapse into your arms and let you hug him, run your fingers through his soft hair while he snuggles his face into your chest.

Much like everyone, he likes being held and comforted at times, it just reminds him that he isn't alone, and that whenever he has a bad day, he can come to you so you can make it better.

This man will drop whatever he's doing if you ask for a quick cuddle session. Training for mcc? He can train later. Cooking dinner? Food can wait. In the middle of a stream? The mute button exists for a reason.

Speaking of streaming, if he's live without his face cam on and craves affection, he will most definitely text you non-stop to come and sit on his lap so he can hold you while he plays.

Doesn't matter if it's Minecraft or some first person shooter, he'll manage. You're more important, after all.

SAPNAP:

Much like his best friend, Sapnap's very touchy when it comes to his s/o.

His hand is always either intertwined with yours or slipped into your back pocket when you're outside, the need to be close to you too much for him, and it doesn't really change in private.

Whenever you're lying down, be it on the sofa or in bed, he will always find a way to be draped on top of you or holding you to his chest, depending on his mood.

Sometimes he wants nothing more than to be held and kissed, and sometimes he just wants to hold you flush to his chest and nestle his face into your hair.

How he wants to cuddle fully relies on his mood.

If he's sad or angry or annoyed, he just wants to be held and coddled, with his head either resting on your lap or on your chest, eyes closed and eyebrows furrowed as he waits for you to run your fingers through his hair and massage his scalp, an action that turns him into putty almost immediately. Sometimes when he's too pissed off or upset, he keeps quiet, letting you do your thing while he clings to you; but if he's feeling up for it and you let him, he'll rant about whatever got him in a mood, appreciating your patience when it comes to him.

But, if he's in an actual good mood, happy or cocky or confident, he feels the need to show off, in a way. And so, he hugs you tightly to his chest, your legs wrapped around his waist as his hands run over the soft skin of your stomach, head snuggled right next to yours as he whispers sweet nothings and presses sweet kisses up and down your jaw and finally your lips.

GEORGE:

George is a heavy sleeper.

And because he's a heavy sleeper, he doesn't realise what he does at night, and it makes it quite hard for him to be woken up during his sleep.

He makes sure that he's always pressed up against you, be it with his chest against your back or with your legs wrapped around his waist, his head resting on your chest as he snores softly.

If he can't fall asleep (which is unlikely), he stares up at the ceiling while he plays with your hair, braiding it or running his fingers through it or simply pressing his face into it, enjoying the softness of the whole situation.

And although it makes up for really great and warm cuddles, it's a bit uncomfortable when you have to get up to go to the toilet or to start the day, his arm heavy over your stomach as he sleeps, peacefully unaware of your struggle as you try and get him off you.

Normally, you just cave into his warmth and snuggle into his side, brushing through his fringe with your fingers and running them over his sleeping features, pressing kisses over his jaw in an attempt to wake him.

Spoiler alert, it doesn't.

After a few hours of just lying there either scrolling on your phone or admiring his beauty, he finally starts to stirr, letting out soft groans and moans as he moves to hold you properly. He smiles at you and wishes you good morning, and when you try to move, he pulls you back, asking for "a few more minutes" to which you audibly groan, but succumb to his ministrations.

He isn't really a touchy person out in public, but he always makes sure that he's holding your hand, rubbing his thumb over your knuckles. But when you're alone, he lets himself indulge in your touches and hugs, running his warm hands over your skin under your shirt as you lay next to him, eyes drooping closed, threatening to once again fall asleep.

TOMMY:

Taking the sleepover vlog with Ranboo as reference, Tommy seems to sleep in a fetal position like most people, which makes me instantly think of curling up with him like that.

Assuming that he's way taller than you, you can easily snuggle your back up to his chest and let him hold you, your legs resting on his as he lazily holds an arm over your waist, drawing weird patterns onto your tummy or waist until he falls asleep.

If by chance you're taller than him, I'd like to think that he probably wouldn't think of changing the way he sleeps just to cuddle, so you sleep back to back, with him curled up with his own pillow until you feel him turn over and drape himself over you like a blanket, head lying on your shoulder as he softly snores.

That reminds me, snoring. Although it doesn't really relate to cuddles, I see Tommy as a big snorer. Like even asleep he has to make as much sound as possible. He always denies it as well, even if you've had his head right next to yours the whole night or even if you've recorded him, he refuses any claims that he snores.

Moving on, cuddles during daytime with Tommy are… an experience.

If you're sitting down on a chair or even on the floor, expect to be tackled from behind and picked up. You'll end up flailing your arms in surprise as he attempts to move you into a better position to cuddle, which normally ends with both of you on the floor.

Apart from the mini heart attacks you get from his sudden explosions of affection, cuddling with Tommy isn't that bad. He secretly likes being held sometimes, even if he screams at you whenever you bring it up amongst your friends, resting his head on your tummy or chest and falling asleep happily while you talk about whatever.

Like, one day, they just saw the word pyromaniac and looked up what it meant and was like, "Yeah, sounds good enough for me, plus it sounds cool." For superheroes, there are usually two types: Those who are more open publicly (not-so-secret personal life, people know their real identity behind the mask and what they look like, and stuff) and those who are more private and try their best to completely separate their personal life from their career (if successful enough, people won't even know your real face and real name and identity).

Skylar is more of the first category; they are already the son of the Mayor anyway, so they just use their real name for their social media handle. And Skylar still actually manages their own social media and sometimes posts some random stuff from their daily life or respond to some lucky fans' comments.

The upside to that is that their fans feel really connected to them and feel like they're more down-to-earth; the downside is that it fosters parasocial relationships even faster and worse than Yvette ever did 😬

If you're wondering, Yvette is kind of the first category, but not really to the point like Skylar. People know what she looks like and her real name, but she rarely shares really personal and private info about her life on social media or TV or to her fans. I think she'll have PR people manage her official social media accounts while she keeps a secret, private accounts she uses daily to just scroll through stuff.

Oh and almost forgot, but Newton is more of the second type. Only his colleagues and some fellow superheroes kind of saw his face and probably knew his first name. But now that he's pretty much close to fully retire, he doesn't really need to be so secretive anymore since he will leave the spotlight and his superhero persona behind him soon for good and just focus on his personal life.

95% of these guys are respectful

Sure they make comments about how stunning you look or how perfect you are 💅��

But like that's it

Unfortunately for you, the other 5% is Toru Oikawa 🙄

Seriously this man 👏🏻

When he sees something he wants, he will just go for it

Oikawa is use to girls (and probably guys) paying attention to him

He's never had to fight someone for attention

Like EVER 🙅

But there's always a first time for everything 🙃

And I honestly cannot think of a more deserving recipient

It starts off as a normal tournament

Yachi is handling water bottles while you and Kiyoko handle the gym

Just basic stuff like preparing the bench, notes and towels

You help the boys with their stretches and even sending a few tosses for spiking drills

Normally, everything runs smoothly

Emphasis on NORMALLY

Because today is the match against Seijoh

Arguably one of the best teams in Haikyu

They are strong, out together and flow effortlessly

Then there is Oikawa 😒 who will soon become you arch nemesis

You are getting ready to toss for Kageyama when the great king approaches

"Well hello there, don't think I've seen you around before"- Oikawa

Kags is probably growling at this point

"Well you wouldn't have, I'm a new manager"- YN handling it like a badass

Daichi, Suga and Asahi are standing away from the action but observing

Howdy everyone! It's me again Zep, back with another update. Hope the new Year has been treating you guys well. Can you believe that January is already almost over? I sure can't.

And speaking of time, this blog will be a year old in April. A whole year! Absolutely crazy to think about. I'll try to drum up something special for the one year anniversary. This blog deserves it.

But, as you all have probably noticed (those of you who have stuck around that is. Thank you for that, by the way.) this blog has been... Quieter. Long gaps of time between posts (I think the longest was nearly a week?) And generally much less activity overall. This is mostly because incoming asks have slown down to a crawl of sorts. Most recent one was four days ago as of writing this.

At this blogs peak I was waking up to sometimes 20 or more asks in the box. Now I'm maybe getting four or five a week, on a good week. It's unfortunate, but ultimately something I expected back when I started this blog.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I never expected this blog to last more than a week. Now it's made it to almost a year. We're almost at 2,000 asks answered at the time of writing this. That is something to be proud of.

Thank you all for sticking around and engaging with the blog as much as you have. Without you, this blog would have actually died in a week. It survives entirely off of you and your submissions.

But with that being said, I don't really see things picking up again anytime soon. Madness Combat simply ain't as popular as it once was on Tumblr. Can you believe the tricky mod for Friday night Funkin was 3 years ago now? It's amazing that hype train has lasted as long as it has, but of course things are getting quieter again.

But don't worry, this blog ain't going anywhere. I'm not deactivating or moving on. The ask box will remain open and I'll answer them still when I can get around to them. Things might be slow, but we ain't dead. This blog will remain up for as long as Tumblr does, and I will have archives of the blog downloaded on my PC in case I do decide to close up shop.

But I guess what I'm trying to say is thank you. Thank you for keeping the fire lit for as long as you have. This blog is always open to you, come by, sit down, ask a few questions, scroll for a while. We'll be here for you to answer whatever you give us, and we're thankful for any likes or reblogs you'll give us.

If you wanna see more of this blog though, please consider sharing it with your friends and other communities. I'm always happy to answer more asks. This is the most fun I've had on Tumblr in a long time.

Anyway, this post has gone on long enough. Just giving y'all a little status report.

y/n posed for the photographers on the red carpet. She stood up straight and looked in everyone direction hoping she was somewhat giving all the cameras a smile. She was close to the end of the carpet and she could go meet her parents inside the theater.

y/n waved to the photographers letting them know she would be walking off. She stopped by the railing that held back screaming fans to take some pictures and sign autographs.

When she was done, she started to make her way into the theater, but was stopped by a boy with blonde hair who she recognized as Walker Scobell, her dad's costar of the movie.

"Hi y/n." Walker smiled a bit shyly.

"Hey Walker. It's so nice to meet you finally." y/n smiled back happily.

"It's nice to meet you, too." Walker said. y/n noticed him fidgeting with his fingers a bit. "I'm a big fan of you and your work. You are an amazing actress." He complimented her.

"Thank you so much." y/n beamed at his sweetness. "That means a lot."

"It's true. I've seen like all of your movies." Walker admitted. "You're one of my idols actually. You're just such an amazing actress. You're so talented and you're really pretty, too." His cheeks flushed after he finished.

"Woah there, Kid!" Ryan said walking up to them. "I like you, but slow your roll with my daughter." He joked making Walker's cheek grow even more red.

"Oh my god." Walker mumbled covering his face with his hands to hide his cheeks.

"I'm just messing with you, Walk." Ryan laughed patting his back.

"I was gonna ask for a picture, but now I'm too embarrassed." Walker shook his head smiling nervously.

"No! It's okay. Let's take a picture." y/n reassured him. "Dad, stop making him nervous."

"Okay, I'm sorry." Ryan jokingly raised his hands in defense. "Here, I'll take the picture for you." Ryan held his hand out and Walker gave him his phone.

y/n wrapped her arm over Walker's shoulder as he wrapped his arm around her back. y/n crouched down and leaned closer to him. Both y/n and Walker smiled towards the camera while Ryan sang in a high voice "Cheese!" He snapped a couple pictures before giving Walker his phone back.

"Thank you, y/n." Walker said to her. "It was really nice meeting you."

"You too! I cant wait to see your movie," y/n replied. "My dad has told me great things about."

"Oh, thank you." Walker eyes lit up. "I should probably go find my dad now." He said pointing to the doors behind them.

"We'll see you later, Walker." Ryan said as he left. He waited until Walker was gone then turned back to y/n. "I knew he had a crush on you."

"You're so mean." y/n laughed shaking her head. "Come on, mom is probably wondering where we are."

"Actually, she's probably thankful for the break from us." Ryan said.

Questions about fanfiction that I need everyone else's opinion on, apparently (part 2)

Head-hopping (also called head-jumping) refers to when the writer jumps between different viewpoints (or POVs) in middle of a scene, i.e. the writer includes thoughts, feelings, and references to lived experiences for more than one character in a scene. The perspective change can occur between paragraphs, sentences, and sometimes even within the same sentence.

It's different from a POV jump in a dual- or multi-POV story in that there's no indication of the jump (i.e. section break or new chapter), and there's sometimes more than one jump — to a third/+ character or back to a previous character's POV.

It's also different from Third Person Omniscient in that there isn't a separate omniscient narrator who sees and knows all (e.g. the narrator in the Good Omens novel). In Third Person Omniscient, the whole story is written from the narrator's perspective, using their 'voice' throughout all the narration, whereas in head-hopping the story is told from the perspective of two/+ characters, using each of their 'voices' during the parts being told from their perspective.

Some readers find head-hopping jarring because it requires them to resituate themselves in the different characters' perspectives each time there's a switch, and may additionally confuse them if references to other characters aren't consistent (e.g. writing "his head office" twice in one sentence and referring to the two different head offices of two different characters).

An example of head-hopping:

Crowley slips his sunglasses back on. He usually takes them off as soon as he enters the bookshop, but their discussion is making him far too uncomfortable and vulnerable to even consider meeting Aziraphale's eyes. Aziraphale hesitates before asking his next question, hopes that he's not pushing the matter too far, hopes that Crowley won't stomp out with some silly excuse instead of considering what he's asking. He rather enjoys spending time with Crowley and doesn't want this to come between them.

(sorry if it's poorly written/OOC, I wrote this on the spot because I didn't want to use any published fics as an example) (if you're not a fan of Good Omens, you have my apology for using it as an example) (if you are a fan, there are no spoilers; it doesn't refer to any actual conversation/event in canon)

I personally don't like head-hopping. I'm probably at a 'dislike' but have in the past stopped reading fics if the hopping got too confusing or frustrating.

Hey, I'm Amarilis. I breed Hoppip, I guess. I just keep finding eggs, so I raise them.....

Shown on my trainer card are my few non-Hoppip Pokémon. I've trained them to help keep things in order. Most of them were caught back during my treasure hunt before I graduated Naranja Academy and started taking care of my Hoppip full time. All of my time is Hoppip time now. It's nice, I guess....

Thank you everyone for 500 followers!! 🥳

As I've kinda hinted at, I've had a special announcement planned for 500. The blog has become a bit bigger, a bit harder to manage, etc etc. So, I've decided to hire more help. Everyone, meet my super official secretary!! (Designed by my friend @demi-ghosty.)

This lil bun is gonna help me by delivering asks, tracking new followers, and counting notes! They're going to be very busy :]

There are probably more than enough of these in my inbox to go a little wild little crazy, so I'm like, why not list 25 things? (Love you Elli sending you my love!!!)

Dr. Pepper, but like no legitimately sometimes my reason for living is for the day I'll drink my darling battery acid soda next.

The feeling when you look right into a carnation and you keep wondering if you'll ever look right into the heart of it but it's constantly enfolded by a thousand tiny powdery folds. The mystery of it and the joy of it.

The gentle joy in my heart when people call me "Miss" Eden now. I don't actually know if it's a Southern-ism? But folks haven't really called me that since I was a little girl, but all of a sudden somebody did recently and it made me delighted for no reason at all. There's a weird perfect affection to it that's a joy to my heart.

Things that are blue in all shades and shapes and sizes, not least of all the particular eternal-blue of the October sky (headed towards me very soon!!!)

When you pick out a book on a whim and you might not be able to tell if it's truly good, but it reaches your HEART, and you have to cry in meeting it and being met in kind. (Indiscretion by Jude Morgan I still can't tell what I felt about you but you did make me cry so you know. There's that.)

Speaking of crying, I made (perhaps...the self-destructive?) decision to watch Persuasion 1995 and Miss Potter back to back last week and reader, I wept and I wept, but my emotions were in such a gooey state that I truly could not regret a bit of it. What's better than watching two of your old favorites and being enfolded by them?

Maybe a funny blessing, but I'm back in a choir that sings new things weekly and it is such a part of my heart that I had missed and I feel that part of me unfolding again from being hidden in the background for so long. JOY!

I have brand new glasses and will perhaps get another pair soon and I'm just. Vastly excited about it. They're like a shiny new facet of me and I love it.

So what if I'm an old lady and it brightens my heart endlessly that I can make my own tapioca pudding whenever my heart so calls for it. It's the little things in life babey.

Whenever I see my college best friend these days she HAS to pick me up when she's hugging me and spin around for a minute. And truly, everything to me.

I've kept this particular ProZD video open in my tabs since he posted it months ago because it never fails to make me cry-laugh I love this place so MUCH

It's just the right season to start wearing my beloved caramel-colored sweater again and it makes me the happiest to be back in my proper warm colors again. The world is right, you know?

Having Laufey's new album to listen to at lunch when I sit by the window and look outside into my favorite tree is such a beautiful memory that's going to endure burning bright in my soul for a very long time I think.

Similarly, having Maisie's album to happily caterwaul to when I drive to and fro as the sky paints itself a bright gracious blue or a heart-warming pink has been such a companion and comfort to my heart this summer, and I can't quite express how much it means to me. I haven't had an album be my friend this much in a minute, and I really needed that.

My brothers have taken to texting our sibling gc whenever they make some recipe they're particularly proud of lately, and it's so sweet and heartfelt to me whenever they all cry out in joy over each other.

Recently there was a visiting priest at church, and the joy when all of us in the choir realized simultaneously that he was Irish when he started talking was the funniest and sweetest to me. (Both my and my choir director's heads snapped up at the same time and it was the silliest billiest!!)

One of my grandfather's paintings sits on my wall now for me to look at every morning, a painting of the view out of his window, and it's just. Love to me, that's all.

I've been on a burst of reading again after a long period of stillness, and I just hit my goal (100) rather. sooner than I thought I would! It's a simple but beautiful thing! The gears of my brain are still moving after all, praise be for that.

I'm slowly coming out of my hardened, much-loathed yet unfortunately comforting shell of fear that I've lived in, fed and watered for the past few months. It's not much, but let's cheers to that. I sleep though the night and I go where I'm wanted, indeed!

I haven't gotten to play in the sandbox of story truly shamelessly and heedless of my own inner critic, but pray for me that this Inklings helps me break out of that. My mind is already turning, trying to spin something new, and it's also like meeting an old part of myself.

I decided to give Katherine Center's books another try recently, and I'm actually so glad that I did because she has the funny knack of making her characters into actual people, which not every romcom maker has the trick of. (Not a dig, btw, I am a romcom lover of old-- but even I must admit it's so nice to follow characters that act in the ways an adjusted adult does. Me at the end of the work day can only take so many fraught conversations, you know?)

Also might be silly, but I now own a blue lace dress of my teenage self's dreams and it fits me like a glove and I haven't stopped beaming with JOY over it.

I've been playing The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles for the first time and I have to play it in veeeery tiny little chunks (like, an hour at a time, which takes great strength of will to do, let me tell you) because it makes me too happy and I feel the need to savor it, like bites of my favorite jam on toast.

Actually, you know what one of the best things in the world is? Lemon curd over melted butter on freshly baked bread. It's like eating sunshine.

The unburdening, lightening, brightening and gleaming feeling of being known when you've had a long talk with someone who can really see you. Maybe it doesn't come around that often, or maybe it comes often and frequently in such tiny ways that we can't anticipate or appreciate enough until they've built into such a succession over time, but regardless, it means everything to me. There's something so simple and true about being able to speak and be heard, and to listen and to hear in equal measure. It will always be a balancing act, but being able to take part at all- ay, that's the spice of life, isn't it lads?

hi, I have a question 'cause I saw it in your tags about the "Persephone lied" post you reblogged.

You mentioned how the tale symbolizes arranged marriages and the separation mother/daughter had to go through.

The more I thought about it the more it makes sense 'cause I’ve heard this is how mothers reacted to marriage in the Ancient World,' cause they would lose their own daughters, with little hope of seeing them again, so that death and marraige seem like almost the same thing from the mother’s perspective. (not to mention Zeus agreed to let Hades to his thing and only "warned" him about Demeter’s reaction. <-I think that can be interpretated as two men agreeing on a marriage without the consent of the mother or the daughter).

On the other hand, I used to think the myth was only relevant to the lives of the worshippers due to Demeter’s grief; it explained the seasons, and it also explained the need for agriculture, which Demeter then taught to mortals to help them survive her periods of sorrow.

Then again I’ve seen ppl theorizing Persephone’s disappearance to be a metaphor for death, (Y'know, how it snatches people away suddenly and leaves grief in its wake) but I think that's a stretch.

Anyways, is there an actual answer or is the myth up to the interpretation when it comes to what it symbolizes/stands for?

Just a small disclaimer: When dealing with a foreign religious tale it doesn't make sense to project our own experiences there since the locals have certain things in place to symbolise specific meanings, and express a certain message. So really, what one "thinks" of the myth is irrelevant. I mean, sure we can all think stuff, don't get me wrong! But I mean, we cannot just base our thoughts on vibes. We should look at the history and tradition of that country first. I'm happy to see people reading examinations of myths more carefully 😄

For example, arranged marriages in Greece were a regular phenomenon 3-4 generations back, and even today that they are not, we still have mournful songs for when her mother grieves losing her daughter in marriage. Our two most famous traditional songs speak of that. One is so bleak that it's downright depressing for a marriage ("Σήμερα μαύρος ουρανός, σήμερα μαύρη μέρα"). @wordsmithic has an extensive video series about the relationship of marriage and death in Greek folklore through the ages. I suggest this for starters (But better see the whole series if you can! It's short!):

Greeks see the tale of Persephone as an explanation for why winter exists, and we also recognise the parallels between Demeter and Persephone's situation with what our mothers and daughters have been going through for thousands of years. The abduction of Persephone is also part of a long-lasting motif of the Greek "Death and the Maiden" stories, so it wouldn't be a stretch to consider it in the broader imagery of "a Death force taking a young woman".

The abduction of Persephone wasn't a story that people related to death and death rituals, so it's probably not a metaphor in the sense you mean, but the story kinda connects death and marriage, again, by being a part of a bigger cultural viewpoint. In Greek tradition since antiquity, young unmarried people (usually teens, not kids) are buried with their (woud be) wedding clothes and sometimes their graves had/have wedding symbols and offerings. Today this is done to give "happiness" to the dead and simulate the marriage rite they never got to have. Also some consider these dead "marry Christ". Before Christianity there was also a motif the dead young women marrying Death (?) but I can't find the info now. I distinctly remember reading many posts about it with sources but I am very sorry I can't procure them now. As soon as I find it, I'll add it here! But you can consider Antigone, how she describes her tomb as a wedding bed, for starters.

Another video of @wordsmithic talks about that motif! (I watched all the videos as you can tell and although I knew most of the stuff, wordsmithic made very good connections there!)

Hopefully, now my initial disclaimer makes sense. There are telling signs of what each myth means, and we take the signs from the culture these myths came from. It's very cool when you can observe the culture's evolution and see hints of that in the present to make more connections.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

Just under 77,500.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Right now, just Sandman – but I do have an unfinished MCU story that I'd like to get back to, and there are definitely other fandoms I'd like to play around in at some point. I'm pretty unfocused, it just depends on whatever tickles my fancy.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I try to respond to every comment! (Although I'm super behind right now. Sometime soon I'll have a nice long self-indulgent afternoon of re-reading comments and finally responding.) I like to respond mostly because, as someone who reads a lot of fic, I get really excited when an author responds to my comments, and I want people who read my work and take the time to leave a comment to have the same feeling :) Also, I just feel like it's polite to say thank you when people say nice things!

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I... don't really write angst. Like, at all. I am all about fluff and disgustingly happy endings. I have a WIP that has a fairly angsty beginning/middle (the shellshocked WWI veterans one which I swear to God I will finish), but even that will still have a happy ending (maybe a little bittersweet, but not angsty).

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Ummm all of them?? Like I am genuinely not sure that one rises above the others in terms of its happiness.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I never have! I'm grateful to be active in a fandom that is almost universally kind and supportive! Also I don't really write the kinds of pairings or subjects that might draw the ire of the general public, tbh, so that's probably part of it.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I do! At the moment mostly M/M since I'm still very Dreamling obsessed, but also F/M. I don't generally get too kinky or monsterfuckery with it, though. Pretty much just regular-degular sexy times around here.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Not really! Nothing against them, just haven't gotten a spark from that kind of idea. Wait, I take that back. A while back I started a Clintasha fic set in the Station Eleven universe. I never finished it, because I feel like I need to re-read the book in order to do so, and I haven't done that yet. But I'd definitely like to.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of!

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope. I would love it if that happens someday! I've considered translating my own fic (I speak fluent German, so it's not outside the realm of possibility), but I'm not sure I'm up to that kind of project at the moment.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No, I've had some fun brainstorming sessions and just back-and-forth reblogging with mutuals and trading ideas, but never actual co-writing. I'm open to the idea, but I would hesitate to inflict my writing process on anyone because it is extremely slow and piecemeal. I feel like a lot of co-writing relationships these days are developed on Discord, and try as I might I just cannot become an active Discord user.

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

Oh, lordy. Genuinely not sure how to answer this. If you go back to like... my very first childhood OTP, it'd have to be something like Han/Leia. But I've never been active in online SW fandom and never written that ship. I mean, Dreamling is obviously a contender. I do also love Stucky and Clintasha, although I'm not really into the MCU these days. I've recently been jumping on the Steddie train, but it remains to be seen if that will last or not. Going back a little farther, I'll never not be a Spuffy shipper. And I'll admit to Nine/Rose and Ten/Rose, and (wince) some JohnLock tendencies. But I really don't think I can point to a single all-time fave!

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I don't think I have anything that's published (or at least begun publicly) that won't ever be finished – hope springs eternal – but I certainly have things I've started and abandoned in my personal WIP files. I've got several Dreamling-related bits and bobs that may or may not ever come to something, and maybe 2300 words of a Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries fic that will probably never see the light of day.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I think I have a good ear for dialogue, and I'd like to think I come up with some nice metaphors/similes and descriptive language.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Actually writing lmao. No seriously though, just sitting down and getting a first draft done is the most challenging part of the whole deal for me.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I think it's fine and can add some interesting color! Just make sure there's a way for people who don't speak the language (or who are using a screen reader) to understand what's being said.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

First I ever wrote was Star Wars Expanded Universe (now Star Wars Legends) fic in elementary school. First I posted on AO3 was a Lizzie Bennet Diaries 5+1 – which, looking at it for the first time in many years, is actually pretty okay! I did something kind of interesting with the form, I think. I think I must have had a fanfiction.com account at some point but I truly cannot remember if I ever posted anything there... I can't remember my username and I don't even think I have access to the email I used to sign up with.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

Among the Stars We are Reborn, for sure. I'm really proud of what I accomplished with that story, and to be honest I wish it had gotten as much attention as some of my other fics.
