The Muppets Present: The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals

based on @the-muppets-present. saw their rule list and felt inspired. might do the other hatchetfield shows later if i feel so inclined :)

i just felt like the story of “average office worker who hates musicals gets trapped in a musical” was just begging to be muppetified.

so, without further ado,

ted- guys i went through so many options for ted. it was immediately hard. eventually i decided on rizzo, because i feel like similarly to ted, he’s kind of an asshole that causes problems for himself and everyone around him. plus, the “kick my head!” scene is even funnier if ted is like. one foot tall.

bill- kermit. i think kermit can and should be a sad dad. bill is like the most earnest man in hatchetfield and the idea of kermit being deeply disappointed that his friend won’t help him reconnect with his estranged daughter because he hates musicals so much is so funny to me.

professor hidgens- gonzo. duh. camilla is alexa. gonzo is the most eccentric bitch in the cast and would 100% kill people to get his musical produced. imagine gonzo shouting “come on you bastard!” at the apocalypse. gonzo would get struck by lightning and climb out of a pile of his friends’ bodies. he just would.

charlotte- miss piggy. stay with me here. from a meta standpoint, i always find it funny when piggy plays the secondary female role in a muppet movie and gets annoyed about it in interviews. from a character standpoint, post-infection charlotte’s high energy would be great to see if it was performed by the one and only piggy. imagine miss piggy singing join us and die. imagine the beginning part. she just beats the shit out of rizzo. gonzo shoots her.

mr. davidson- fozzie. idk i just got a mental image of him putting the newspaper down like jeff blim does at the beginning of the song and then fucking. waggling his ears.

sam- this one was hard because i had to think of you tied up my heart and show me your hands. i eventually picked link hogthrob. sam’s a pig, link’s a pig, etc.

alice- janice. hear me out. it’s not just because she’s “the other girl muppet.” imagine if alice just looked at bill and went “whatever, man” and walked away. truthfully thinking more about watcher world than tgwdlm for this one.

paul- jon matteson. paul stays the same, babeyyy. i think it just adds another fucking layer to his panic because not only is everyone randomly singing around him, they’re fucking muppets. just imagine la dee dah dah day if he was surrounded by muppets. he’s just some guy in a weird situation, and just some guy he shall stay.*

emma- lauren lopez. so i am breaking the number one rule of muppetfication to keep emma the same, but there’s a method to my goddamn madness. the only person paul can relate to in hatchetfield is the one other human being. plus, again, imagine the end of inevitable with emma screaming and crying while surrounded by fucking muppets.

*so i lied. just some guy he shall not stay. when inevitable starts, you first hear paul’s voice. he’s singing, just like he does in the show. emma very quietly goes “paul?” the same way, too. but what’s different is you can’t see paul. the camera pans over.

paul is a muppet.

he’s one of the lookalike ones, like from the first two episodes of the show and the jason segel one from the 2011 muppet movie.

Ok we had a wee discussion as I had some further probing so here we go:

He was making his way back home from a quiet night's patrol when he heard it.

Shouting, screaming, crying.

He made a detour towards the sound, perching on the top of the fire escape in a familiar alleyway. A young girl, can't be more than 16 or 17, shouting into the dark. He could smell the alcohol coming off her from all the way up here. But there was something else under it, he knew her.

"D'you hear me you masked freak?!" she lobbed the empty bottle at the wall where it smashed spectacularly. "Come out, coward!" she continued to yell, "come out and tell me how you saved me!"

He jumped down into the alley and she recoiled in fright. Matt stayed where he was, palms up, as unthreatening as he could appear while in the black getup.

"Y-you came." she stuttered.

"I… heard you."

She regained some of the liquid confidence. "What about all the other times? You never heard me then?"

Matt heard the venom in her tone. "I'm sorry, I'm here now. I guess I'm only one man."

"So is my father."

Matt tilted his head. "Your father…"

"You won't fucking remember. The one you beat bloody, years ago. The one you told never to touch me again."

Matt blanched. One of the first that he'd let the devil out on when 'doing the right thing' didn't do anything. "I remember."

"Well guess what?" the girl staggered to the wall and slumped against a dumpster.

Matt sighed. "I- I'm so sorry. I know a really good lawyer, he could help gather evidence this time and get him-"

"Hah. The law." she laughed bitterly. "No-one listens to girls like me, the ones that've been through the system. The ones that have been passed from 'family' to 'family' because they're so fucked up… no-one wants 'em, no one cares. They… they just wanna sweep us under the trash, pretend we don't exist." She shook her head. "Doesn't matter what I say he's done to me, he'll always get away with it no thanks to you."

"That's not true, I-" Matt started, but she pushed off the dumpster and stumbled towards him.

"Why didn't you do it?" He could taste the salt in her tears as they started to slide down her cheeks. She shoved him, making him take a step backwards. "He doesn't deserve to live."

She punched him hard in the chest with her fists. "Why didn't you?!" she repeated, her voice broken and hoarse now, kept on hitting her words right into him.

"Why didn't you kill him?"

Yeah, he remembers that night. He wanted to.

His blood was up, boiling, spilling over his hands as he pounded them repeatedly into the guy's face.

He thought it would be enough of a deterrent.

Frank's words echoed in his mind now. 'I hit them and they stay down'.

He couldn't be that, can't cross that line, can't be everything. Judge, jury and executioner. And because of that, the bad things just keep happening. People fall through the cracks in the system because sometimes, the law isn't enough.

She was crying into his shoulder now, her punches dissipating into feeble smacks as she crumbled. He stood still, let her take it out on him. It was his fault after all.

"You fucking… bastard! Y-you should have-"

It was too late, the damage had been done. How many others like her had he 'saved' from all the way up there on his high horse of so-called morality?

and here’s my thoughts on almost every song if anyone wants to read :]

[Fortnight (ft. Post Malone)] “they forgot to come and get me” UGHH I WOULD DO ANYTHING TO HEAR THIS LINE FOR THE FIRST TIME. it was so magical. their voices mix so well together, just like butter melting on a toasted bread. although just like time i wish we could hear Post Malone’s voice more. but i guess he did the beats and stuff he just did an awesome job. glad they collaborated.

[TTPD] is just a way of getting everyone ready for the rest of the album… we were not ready taylor. after listening it for 100 times we are still not. she goes from wondering who will hold him and wants him to come back to wondering who will hold her and help her after such a relationship because she realises he won’t be coming back

[My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys]

[So Long, London] the first seconds are everything for me. i’ve always felt that melody was nostalgic and about saying your last goodbye so for me it just fit too well. also when i first listened to the song (didn’t have the lyrics) i thought she said “so long london you found someone” and just stood there in the middle of the forest while on my way to school it was crazy lol,, anyways the melody is too good + “every breath feels like rarest air when you’re not sure if he wants to be there” line is so strong. later in The Black Dog there’s a big connection to this so..

[But Daddy I Love Him] i love this song because one of my friends is in this situation it’s cute

[Fresh Out The Slammer] ok ok i am so confused who is this “her” that he was with in his dreams because Taylor talked about “her” a LOT in this album it makes me suspicious abt alwyn. anyways. since they are only songs i will not read into them so much but still. WHO IS THAT.

[Florida!!!]feels like NBNC from evermore and it’s just pure anger. love it. living for the chaos.

it's been a bad week, a bad month really. case after case after case. people that bruce had put away when he'd started as batman are being put out on parole and they haven't changed at all. Arkham decided to switch security systems without informing the GCPD and now a third of the non-violent offenders were wandering through the city. organized crime was up to their usual shit but made worse with a new family from the west coast trying to branch their business into Gotham.

This is a really strong start. Gotham Central works because it makes dealing with supervillains feel meaningful to the average person in Gotham - sure, Batman shows up and gets them eventually, but that doesn't mean everything just goes back to normal.

Freeze is barely in this and he's unsettling as hell. The cold gun is creepy!

Dead Reckoning (Ted #777-782)

Immediately derailed by a Tec story. It's a good one, at least.

I like that Gordon became a teacher, even if he's not qualified at all.

Why does Arkham have an isolation cage.

I'm with Two-Face here, if he can drive an Arkham employee to a nervous breakdown it's probably better that he do it instead of Scarecrow or whoever.

Manchild update that nobody asked for.

After getting him home he talked to his mother and demanded that I take up to Walmart because he said that some employees up there tried to beat her up/jump her and she’s the type of woman who would call the police not her son to deal with it. I refused so he went to bed and fell asleep. Fast forward about 2 hours he wakes up to use the bathroom and I catch him peeing in the sink I ask him what the fuck he’s doing and tells me to shut the fuck up and to leave him alone. The door was open btw it’s not like I busted in on him. Anyway I go to put the pop back into the fridge and as I walk by the bathroom which the door is still open he’s ripping up one of my books that I have in there to read while using the bathroom. So I ask him what is he doing he rips out another page from the book and puts it on the toilet seat. I tell him to stop and use the paper towels that he brought in there to use as toilet paper instead of ripping my book up so he leaves the bathroom. And sits on the stairs and falls asleep so I ask him what he’s doing once I hear him snoring he doesn’t say anything this time and just gets up and walks outside. He leans against the house and I guess falls back asleep but idk cause I’ve closed the door to keep bugs out and the ac is on so I’m not wasting energy. I’m finally doing his laundry, because this is day number two of his drunk ass peeing his pants and I’m tore of smelling his pissy pants,that he demanded that I do because he “works hard” (he’s a truck driver) and I should have to do it and if I don’t then I’m not a real woman and I should be grateful and suck his dick 24/7 and be happy to cook for him (every time I do he complains about something). He acts like I owe him sex (I’m demisexual and the older I get the less I want to have it) I’ve told him I won’t unless he starts showing me respect like he does his mom and sister but he says I won’t ever see that level cause I’m not them and should stop comparing myself to them and how me doing all the cooking cleaning and his laundry makes me feel like his mom all he does is scream at me about how I’m not he already has one and that I’m nobody’s mom. Manchild is 31 years old and still acts like this, I think the reason that it’s hard for me to leave his abusive ass is because I feel bad for him and he tries to make me think that he’s not abusive towards me and how real abuse victims would laugh at me because they have broken bones and bruises. But here’s the thing he’s bruised me before multiple times and he’s thrown shit at my head, he made me quit my job by calling me a slut and whore and saying I didn’t actually work I was just in the back sucking underage dick or old man dick because those were my coworkers teens and men in there 40s and just generally stressing me out making it hard to work, and he also calls me bitches along with whore slut and other names which I’m pretty sure is verbal abuse. But yeah I feel like I am a victim but I’m not sure because I don’t have it as bad as other people. Side note I’m so fucking tired of crying, I’ve never cried this much not even when a traumatic event that happened five years ago upended my whole world, he constantly makes me cry and it’s hard to sleep knowing that he’s here it’s like I have to stay alert for what ever he might decide to do.

You were never one to enjoy the spotlight. Instead, you were often found in the background of things, just observing the extroverts who managed to get themselves in the middle of everything.

You had a nerve to admire them- their ability to just get out there and show their true selves, despite so many people watching their every move. Just the thought of it made you shudder. Yet you couldn’t help but also be rather envious of them.

Them, in question, being Sean McLoughlin.

You weren’t quite sure how you became associated with Jacksepticeye himself, choosing to focus on the present and future with your friend rather than dwelling on your past. He was just Sean, your internet friend. And also Jacksepticeye- a famous youtuber with millions of followers.

Sean was who you aspired to be in life. Outgoing, happy, out there, everything positive in life that Sean had, you wanted.

He’d confided in you often about how nervous he’d get before streams or videos, fearing that he’d say the wrong thing or upset his fans, but he still put on a brave face and went out into the chaos. That’s what you admired. His ability to conquer those anxieties.

You wished you could do that. You were simply too nervous.

Which is why when Sean facetimed you one night- morning, actually, seeing as it was 3am in California, where you were- asking you to join a game of Among Us for one of his videos, you adamantly refused.

“Why? Please, Y/N, we need one more person.” Sean begged, “It’ll be me, you, Felix, Ethan, Corpse, Julien, PJ, and Dave. Not everyone’s playing today, it’s a smaller crowd.”

“But it’s still a lot.” You groaned, “I don’t even know them. I just know you.”

“They’re nice! You literally watch their videos.” He argued back.

“That’s the point, Sean! They’re famous, I’d just be some random chick in the game that everyone asks where the fuck she came from.”

“No, you’ll be the girl that everyone adores. Now get on, we’re playing in ten.”

You sighed as the phone hung up and turned on your computer. A Discord invite was waiting for you- Sean must have invited you for you to talk to everyone as you played. You accepted with shaky fingers and put your headphones on, pulling up Among Us and typing in the game code.

“Hello everyone- wait, who’s pink?”

“She’s a good friend of mine,” Sean explained to Felix, “Say hi Y/N. We’re streaming live right now.”

“Hello,” You couldn’t help the meek tone in your voice, smiling shyly as if you were actually on camera. “Wait, you’re streaming? Sean, I thought you said it was a recording for a video.”

“I, well. It’s a video all right.”

The group laughed, but you stayed silent, fixating your attention on a lower voice that chimed in at the end.

“Well, it’s nice to meet you, Y/N. I’m Corpse.”

“The King of Imposters.” PJ joked, making Corpse laugh.

You giggled a bit, “Hi…”

Felix gasped. “Corpse, her voice is like, the total opposite from yours. Her’s is so cute.”

Corpse laughed as well. “Agreed. I like it.”

As the game loaded, your heart practically dropped.

Imposter.

As if your nerves weren’t bad enough as they were. But, on the bright side, you were with Sean as the other imposter. At least it was someone you knew.

You both split up, you heading towards Electrical. Corpse and Felix were close behind you, Felix following you into the room while Corpse left. You pretended to do your task for a minute before moving to your left a minute and killing Felix.

You rushed out of the room and then headed to Navigations, making sure to avoid anybody who could have seen you leave Electrical. A few moments later, a body was reported.

“Where was it?” Sean asked Julien, the reporter.

“Electrical.”

“I saw Y/N go in there with him at the beginning of the game.” Corpse joined in, “I saw them as I was going to the Reactor.”

“I was in Electrical with him,” You admitted, still acting a bit shy. What could you say, deep voices and new people made you nervous. “But after that I left and went to do my task in Navigation. Felix was still alive and there when I left.”

“Did you pass anyone sus on the way there?” Sean asked.

“No, if they came in after I did it must’ve either been from the other way or after I was already in Electrical.” You started picking at your nail polish- a habit of yours when things got a little overwhelming.

“So you’re saying that it could’ve been from the direction Corpse was in?” You could hear the smirk in Sean’s voice.

“Whoa, whoa, hold up. Why are you so quick to throw me under the bus? I’m just a crewmate.” Corpse questioned, “You’re pretty sus if you ask me.”

Sean scoffed, “I’m just inferring that the culprit came from your direction. Never in my words did I say it was you. Sounds like you’re getting a little too defensive for someone who’s ‘just a crew mate’.”

“Uh, guys,” You quietly spoke up. You didn’t expect anyone to hear you, but Corpse and Sean immediately quieted down at your voice. “I hate to interrupt, but we’ve got to vote. I don’t want us to argue…”

Sean laughed. “Oh little Y/N, you’re too sweet. I’m skipping this round.”

As you voted to skip as well, your stomach clenched when you heard Corpse quietly repeat “Little Y/N”.

“I was in Medbay with Corpse, isn’t that right, Corpse?” Your tone was sweet and slightly flirty- hopefully he’d get the hint.

Corpse hesitated for a millisecond- long enough for your breath to catch, but short enough for nobody else to notice. “Yeah, she was with me.”

“She was with you after she vented there!” Julien cried, “I can’t believe this- she killed Ethan and vented away right as I went into the room! You all are fucking nuts if you don’t believe me.”

“I don’t even know how to vent…” You murmured innocently, but in reality you were smirking. Julien was definitely telling the truth, and you were internally beating yourself up for letting yourself be so reckless after a kill, but nobody was seemingly buying his story.

There was only you, Corpse, Julien, Dave, and PJ left. Sean was voted off after fucking up his alibi, leaving you alone with the rest of the group.

Corpse sighed. “You all heard the girl. She doesn’t even know how to vent.”

“Wh- she just fucking vented!” Julien exclaimed, “Corpse, man, she’s got you under some fucking magic spell if you can’t see all the evidence. Guys, back me up here.”

“She’s sus.” Dave admitted, “And Corpse defending her makes it even more sus.”

“The spell she tried on him obviously got the best of him. I say we vote Y/N.” PJ agreed.

“There’s no spell, guys, oh my God.” Corpse laughed, “I just don’t think it’s her. I’m skipping.”
